hi!! ohhh, there are some highlights for sure! i read the green bone saga (jade city is the first book in the trilogy) by fonda lee which blew me away and instantly became a new all-time favourite! the sword of kaigen by m.l. wang was one of the best character-driven fantasy standalones i have read in recent memory. bable by r.f. kuang was probably my most anticipated read of the year and it did not disappoint. i who have never known man by jacqueline harpman & hamnet by maggie o'farrell both fascinated me so so much for completely different reasons. i could not put down in my dreams i hold a knife by ashley winstead—it was SO entertaining and exactly my kind of mystery thriller. i also discovered some authors whose works i love: mieko kawakam (standout: all the lovers in the night) & octavia butler (standout: kindred) were definitely standout authors new to me.

idk i could mention so many more. i read so much and so many great books it's hard to narrow it down. if you want to have a closer look at my favourites, i posted my quarterly favourites here, here and here. all my other 4 and 5 star reads are found in my monthly wrap ups! you can find them here :) i will also post my monthly wrap up and my last quarterly favourites post at the end of december which will definitely include some more favourites (i am currently reading a 600 page classic which i didn't expect to fuck as severely as it does).

Heyooo! It’s me again (i hope i’m not bothering you by asking questions like these) I started making a comic and I’m struggling with the typography

Any tips or recs to look? I really like your work and that’s why I am asking :)

I can dish out a few tips but they aren't really hard rules so take them with a grain of salt and artistic freedom.

The most important thing imo is the presentation of the text on the page. The shape and number of speech bubbles will be registered way before any of the contents so it needs to looks the part. 

The first tip would be generally avoid the speech bubbles being overly thin and long. The example below is pretty tame but believe me, I’ve read comics with the wormiest of speech bubbles and they tend to not look good.

Sometimes the automatic alignment of the text will look closer to a square (especially if there are many short words in a sentence) so feel free to go in and move the text around via the enter key so it looks more like the rhombus. You won't always be able to achieve it especially if the first word in a sentence is long (e.g. the word "hypothetically") but a rhombus should be the goal.

While we're on the topic of speech bubbles I like mine to have really short "tails" (the bits that indicate who is speaking), unless I REALLY want to make sure the reader knows who is speaking in a scene.

 Also I always make the tails point directly towards characters mouth unless it would make the scene confusing (for example if two characters have mouths really close to each other or something, I might make one tail point a bit higher/lower/to the left/right to differentiate between the two speakers. But that’s like a super specific problem and could be avoided with proper frame layout.)

And like, never skip the tails unless its the same character monologuing at length. Nothing breaks emersion more than when you have to stop and turn into an investigator to determine who is speaking in a scene.

Now for the fonts themselves, in my opinion the size of text should be unified between speech bubbles and across pages when it comes to a single font. Example, all casual speech - arial, 14; all thought bubbles - Calibri, 15. 

That is of course unless there is artistic merit to changing the font and/or font's size. Making someone yell, suggesting a threat or sarcasm, indicating a playful tone or something akin to that -  lean into what you're trying to communicate visually.

All fonts are not made equal and sometimes you will have to adjust things manually e.g. letter spacing or line spacing. Generally I try to keep the spacing the same regardless of the font, e.g. "yay exciting" had massive gaps between the lines which I've shrunk to make it look more visually cohesive with the rest of the dialogue. Same with these ones:

At the end of the day typography and everything pertaining to speech bubbles is design work and what designs do is communicate a message and serve a function. I’ve had this picture saved on my pc for years now (reverse google search doesn’t tell me who made it but it’s like the bible to me so I will share it, I am almost certain it was made by tryinghuman but I might be wrong):

Really every part of a speech bubble can be “designed” down to a single word. The position of text, fonts, the shape of the bubble etc. And every change will culminate in an effect and the goal is to have that effect reflect what you’re going for.

Make it legible or illegible, make it see-through, capitalise one word, cover speech bubbles up with other objects, make them crack or fall apart. Not every speech bubble needs special treatment! But once in a while it’s nice to throw something different in to spice things up.

Also, and this is a rule that was bestowed upon me during a graphic design class, don’t use more than 3 fonts per page (again, unless there is artistic merit to it like e.g. purposefully trying to communicate a sense of chaos. Otherwise it just looks a bit unprofessional. In my opinion anyway.)

And the last thing I will say, and this mostly applies to comics in English, is some “speech” fonts include capital “I”s both with and without serifs. The serif I should generally be reserved for the pronoun “I”.

There is so much more when it comes to text in comics like the flow of bubbles across pages, splicing text across bubbles for communicating speech patterns or intentions of the characters, and there are tutorials about it out there but I wasn’t able to find my favourites on command............. sorry................ But I’m peppering this in just so you’re on the lookout for all the other cool things that go into comic making :)

Several small BatFam notes

@moss-covered-thoughts (I'm answering questions and providing information for DPxDC fans.)

lol don't worry about it! Nothing about you talking about your fic will make me feel left out! I'm just happy to help you out with your work! If anything will make me feel left out, it's the lack of rogues content and people within this fanspace underutilizing Vlad and not having much of that juicy, juicy polycule content (specifically Vlad/Jack/Maddie) that I keep coming back to Danny Phantom for. :p Speaking of, I want to be as transparent as I can with the information I'm giving out, because just like all comics fans, I'm not an expert on everything and I am very much in my own specific niche and haven't read everything out there! I'm actually not much of a Batfam fan and am much MUCH more of a rogues fan! (Specifically my hyperfixation is focused around Harvey Dent and Two-Face.) So while I do have some information about the members of the batfamily, my knowledge isn't nearly as comprehensive as someone who's deep dived into that part of the DC universe! I'll give you the information I can, and hopefully someone with more cohesive Batfam knowledge can reblog this post with extra notes to fill in the holes I have in my knowledge. >.<

Adoption Order

So I can't tell you the specific specifics of adoption specifically, but I believe that the order of each member joining the Bat Family would probably be along the lines of: Dick Grayson -> Barbara Gordon -> Jason Todd -> Tim Drake -> Cassandra Cain -> Stephanie Brown -> Damian Wayne -> Duke Thomas.

Batgirl and Duke recs

Again, I haven't read much Bat Family stuff because my primary focus is on the rogues. But I do have a handful of recs! If you're willing to watch a long-ass video instead of reading, I would actually highly recommend Linkara's retrospective on Cassandra Cain and here's the link to said video! It's very good and goes into just about every major comic appearance she was in at the time of the video first coming out (in 2019)! You will get a very good image of her character from that, I like Linkara's analysis, and by watching that video, you will definitely be able to come away from it with a number of recommendations for both Cassandra Cain and Stephanie Brown! (He does talk about Steph some in this video, but it's limited.)

Speaking of Stephnie I'm sorry to say that I don't really have any recommendations for Steph as I sadly have just not really happened to come across any works that have her in them in my poking around in different comics and related media. But honestly, while I can't give you any recs for Steph, maybe you should toss Linkara (@atopfourthwall) a message! He's actually a decently active Tumblr user and given that he wants to do a different retrospective on Stephanie Brown, certainly he would have things to recommend!

As for other Cass reccomendations... The only thing I have in my back pocket is Spirit World. It's not about her, it's a solo series about the brand spanking new character, Xanthe Zhou, but Cass IS a main character in it, and people seem genuinely happy with what they did with her in that story!

If you're looking for good Barbra Gordon content... Well... Personally I would recommend giving her episodes in Batman: the Animated series or the issues that include her in The Batman Adventures a look-see...? It's always a solid time with her around in B:TAS, or in the Batman Adventures! They characterize her very well in those serieses!

If you want both a Cass and a Barbra suggestion... Maybe check out No Man's Land...? Asking you to read all of the comics that were part of that saga might be a little much, but there is a novel adaptation of the No Man's Land storyline out there, and personally I listened to the reading of that novel as done by Graphic Audio and it is genuinely excellent! Like, the marketing may be tacky, but it is on the level of quality as something like an audio drama podcast or a Big Finish Audio. It just happens to be a book reading. :p But No Man's Land IS where Cass was first introduced, (also where Harley Quinn joined the comics universe fun fact!) and it has plenty of good moments from Barbara in it too!

As for Duke... Honestly, if you aren't already reading the Wayne Family Adventures, then you really ought to. >.< That series is available for free on webtoon and the first several strips have him as the main character before it becomes more of an ensemble cast thing. (And in case you were wondering it IS official DC media!) >.< I also haven't read much of Duke's stuff, and so in terms of his backlog, I really don't know what to recommend. The one story that I did happen to read that heavily featured Duke... Was "My Own Worst Enemy" (it's like volume 1 of All-Star Batman) which was... Fine...??? Like, as a Two-Face and Harvey Dent story, it was pretty bad and ablest in how it portrayed Harvey's DID. (But this isn't necessarily unusual for books that include him... SIIIIIGH!) But it was also incredibly stupid and fun, and had a lot of good forwards momentum and offered a number of interesting ideas that I don't entirely hate! So overall I find it... Fine... But as a Duke story... Honestly it's not bad as far as a Duke story can go! And the back-up story for that little arc (the Cursed Wheel) was pretty alright too! I do feel like after I read My Own Worst Enemy that I did understand Duke just a little better as a character! So while it's not good... You might find it to be decent in what you're looking for...? Because I really cannot speak on any other stories he's been in. >.<

So uh... Sorry about my whole limited perspective thing... But I do hope that you find some of this useful at least! I wish you the best of luck in your writing endeavors!

I'm gonna answer this ask the best I can, but I can't promise I won't "disaster-bi" my way through it, so I apologize in advance. I'm not sure I'm qualified to give any advice. But right at the start of this I’m gonna drop some online resources for you:

Now, if you’re looking for IRL community, without knowing your age, it's hard to point you to many concrete resources. But, some options are:

If you are high school-aged or older (which I assume you are), you can always find a teacher/counselor with a "safe zone" sticker in their room or office and see if they have any contact info for local lgbtq+ groups or organizations you could join or make friends. Typically it wouldn't be a concern that any of these people would out you, but if you're especially tentative about it, make sure you speak with a teacher or counselor you trust.

If you're in college or around the age where you can tour a college, I highly recommend talking with an admissions counselor at your local community or liberal arts college (on your own, without parents) and request resources for campus clubs or organizations you could join--

You also don’t have to go to the college to speak with them. You can simply email asking for resources, you don’t have to attend. A counselor or office admin would be more than happy to dig up some local resources for you or give you the contact info of someone who can - it’s literally what they do (trust me).

However, I know there are a lot of people who use destiel and this community as an outlet, or their only outlet, for lgbtq+ community and content, and, for the record, I think that’s great. There are a ton of friends to be had around here. If you’re comfortable, you can try to connect with some people on tumblr, maybe about fanfic you like, or fanfic you write, or art - hey, like me! - and start establishing some friendships. You can hang out via Discord, do voice and video chat, do watch-a-longs, you name it. 

As far as the art question goes: All the art you order from me comes in a nondescript box or flat mailer, but you can always email me or message me in advance to request more packaging or discuss specific concerns you may have.

Now for the fic rec part!

A great one (that I’m also hesitant to recommend because I don’t know your age, but is very topically appropriate) is Four Letter Word by Bendingsignpost. In it, Dean explores is bisexuality - but please mind the tags. I’ll let other people recommend their favorite fics in the comments if anyone has one they’d like to add!

Watching Us is a game for 2-6 players and takes about an hour to play. Draw cards and answer their prompts, then invoke the Watcher's image. Together, slowly uncover the face of the entity that has been haunting all of you.

This looks like an excellent way to slowly build up the terror of something that’s been following you for a long time. It’s built on For The Queen, which is a game that relies on a story that’s built slowly over time by answering questions. This game was also made for the Fucked-Up Guy Game Jam, which has a number of other ttrpg items that may fit into the creepy-pasta mold about eerie human-like entities that won’t leave you alone.

Chase the H0ll0w, by Brandon Leon-Gambetta.

A game of fear and isolation for 3 to 5 players who would go into a bunker in the woods to follow something horrifying.

Chase the H0ll0w is a secret identity roleplaying game that tells a story similar to creepypasta fiction over the span of about two hours. It is intended for 3 to 5 players with one of those players taking on the role of game facilitator.

Players portray a group of internet sleuths exploring an abandoned or hidden place that is haunted by something terrifying and strange. They will be attempting to learn enough about it to solve how to get it to stop chasing them and (hopefully) to get their friend back who was already taken. 

This is a game in which each player is going to take on a secret role that will also likely determine their objectives throughout the course of play. If you want a game that will challenge you to out-last your friends, this might be worth checking out.

It's up to you to find out the truth and live to tell the tale. How do all the local urban legends and assorted weirdness in town figure into the mystery? This is a great two-player game for making up and tracking down urban legends, especially if you don’t necessarily want a horror element. What is a fic vault?

This is something present in many fandoms! It is essentially an archive of QSMP fics, while also being a place where one can ask for help finding a certain work! They also often have recs from the mods, which will be present here. If possible, I would also like to boost various exchanges, activities, etc.

Okay... so why are you doing this?

I have always had a fondness of fic vaults and archives in fandom, finding the people running them to be generally pretty kind. Then I suddenly realized that I could do the same, and I have yet to find a fic vault for QSMP, so I figured I could fill this certain niche!

Can you help me find this VOD/clip/art?

No, sorry. There are plenty of VOD and clip archives, and I have seen a variety of blogs that focus just on fanart. While there may sometimes be reblogs of these things, we will not be finding them for you.

What websites will you be finding fics on?

For recs, probably just AO3 (and sometimes Tumblr). If you need help finding one that you remember being on another site, though, we will absolutely still look for it!

Are you looking for more mods?

At the moment it is just me, so if more people find this, then I would absolutely begin looking for some more mods! At that point, I would create a form to apply, but you can send me a message before then if you are interested!

i also think reading avs fics in general can help give you a good idea of various characterizations of the players. if you want i can try and rec specific fics that i think nail characterizations of specific people really well (at least in my opinion haha)

i already have a list of all of my aot x reader fic recommendations and you can check my tags on tumblr under #fic recs for any ones i've found on here (aot, jjk, bllk, mostly), so i'll answer this for non-reader fics!

Bertholdt by Tvieandli - Bertholdt/Reiner, dark content This is hands-down the best AOT fic I've ever read, and sadly it has been unfinished since 2014. !! WARNINGS !! there is a lot of dark content in this fic, such as: underage, slurs, dubious consent, conversion therapy, physical/emotional abuse, eating disorders, and probably more. Please don't read this fic, get upset by the content, and then leave hurtful messages to the author -- I don't think any of my followers would do that, but if someone else stumbles across this, just please be respectful. Know your own limits and boundaries. Anyway. I randomly stumbled across this author because I was looking for Annie/Marcel fics 💀 I didn't even like Reibert at the time, but I decided to give this fic a shot and I was blown away. I really like darker, angsty content because I like having that emotion be invoked through a piece of literature, and this one really did that for me. I just love this fic so much and it inspires me to be better.

softly by TuesdayTerrible - Eren/Jean Like I said above, I just love fics that tear my heart out and this one really does it to me. I actually re-read it quickly when I grabbed the link and now I'm sobbing again. I love heartache and bittersweet love and stories like this just inspire me so much.

There are also fics from other fandoms that inspire me that sadly no longer exist or I can't find them, but I guarantee you that they're all equally as gut-wrenching. There's one that I remember from the SHINee fandom during the LiveJournal days that was Onew/Minho where Minho (I think) was a robot that was ordered to Onew's house after.... something... idk but anyway, it was very sad and I bawled like a baby and when I think about fanfics that I've read and loved in the past, I always remember that one, even if I can't recall details.

I used to read/write kpop fanfics when I was in highschool/early university but I ended up getting too busy and stopping completely. I got back into reading last year when I re-read The Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins. There have been a lot of turtles coming here from Twitter and other platforms, and since most of you will not really be familiar with me or my blog I thought I would give you some information that might be helpful and serve as a bit of an introduction.

I have been a turtle for a few years now. You can read a little bit about my turtle journey here.

I am autistic, so some of the ways I communicate might not be what you're used to. Please be patient with me. I'm human and doing my best to connect with everyone in a positive way.

I believe BJYXSZD, and like most turtles I enjoy some mixture of candy, fan works, and GG and DD's projects and endorsements. I'm also particularly interested in the political and 'queer issues' side of things, which some people are not comfortable with.

just scrolled through some of your account after serpentandthreads recommended you! cant say i was disappointed, i thoroughly enjoy the detailed nature of your posts. i do also have a few questions, but none are innately related to witchcraft, moreso you as a more experienced tumblr user. if you dont feel comfortable answering any of these, i totally understand!

1) when someone reblogs one of your posts and adds their own tags, can you see the added tags similarly to how you're notified when someone adds onto your post?

2) for the "submit a post" feature, how do you feel about this? should we not use it in general, or if we can- should we recommend others' posts to you, or our own for your opinion? (if you are willing to give it of course)

Depending on your notification settings, yes, you will be alerted of tags. On desktop you can see tags in two places: the quick-view drop down bar (that looks like the lightning bolt), and your activity page (click on the head-and-shoulders icon, then select "Activity," which is between Followers and Drafts).

In notes, tags added to your posts will be slightly gray and always include the #. Regular content added to a reblog will be solid, not-faded text and won't include the #.

Post submission is uncommonly used and mainly seen in community-aggregate type accounts, for example if someone was maintaining a candle spell blog and people submit posts to it. Even so, Asks seem to be more commonly used.

Generally, if you want someone to check out content, on Tumblr you might post a link and @ them, like "hey this seems interesting, any thoughts?", or send an Ask inquiring as to if a person wants to review certain content.

On average however I say sending content to people is only common between people who already have some level of relationship (they reblog each other's posts, engage in the same social circles, etc).

I myself enjoy discussing ideas, but I don't think I'd want to engage in publicly "reviewing" the posts of others, especially if they're made by a third party who didn't ask to have their posts reviewed. I think I would be more comfortable having ideas sent through Asks as more of a regular discussion.

A great way to develop community discussion on ideas is to make your own posts, stating the ideas that you're interested in talking about, and asking specific open-ended questions, such as, "does anyone have thoughts on the structure of this ritual?" or "I'm trying to understand X, are there any thoughts as to why it's included in this?"

As weeks pass after the Tsunami, Christopher has Eddie to help him deal with the scars it left behind. He also has Buck. Buck's dealing with his own demons, but he has both of them.

Eddie's trying to keep them all together and finding out his family might not be as small as he thought.

The 118 have their few cents to add, too, because don't they always.

This is one of my favorite Buddie fics. It deals with the aftermath of the tsunami in a way that is absolutely beautiful and realistic and authentic. Christopher and Buck's relationship, and Eddie and Christopher's relationship are perfection. A thing I also really love is that it's not just a Buddie fic, it has the firefam, Maddie and Eddie'sfamily involved in a way that's just natural.

♣️ The King's Tide by yawnralphio (@dearbuck) (WIP with Regular Updates)

A captain, his ship, her crew, and a secret with the power to ruin it all.

When his merchant transport vessel is boarded by the fearsome Captain Nash and the crew of the Spark, Eddie believes his time has come.

Buckck makes him an offer he can't refuse, and he finds himself tangled up in something much bigger than he planned for.

I have never read a pirate AU fic. I have never been interested in reading a pirate AUs. But this one changed my mind. The storytelling is amazing. This author paints images with their words, and they have built an amazing, nuanced world here. With every chapter, a question is answered, and a few arise, but it's handled so well you won't be impatient and confused half the time. The friendships, the relationships, here are beyond amazing too.

♣️ Tethers by red-to-black (@redtooblack) (WIP)

Eddie's spent years trying to find a place to call home with Christopher, hoping that Shannon will come back and then desperately hoping she wouldn't. He thinks he's in the clear when she shows up at his doorstep, demanding they get back together.

Eddie comes up with a foolproof plan: get a fake boyfriend, convince Shannon he's gay, and live happily ever after with his life mostly intact and Christopher safe and happy. Get rid of fake boyfriend when Shannon gives up, and life can resume as normal.

Enter Buck, and the plan goes to hell in a handbasket.

Where do I start with this fic? First of all, it's fake dating- which is a trope I love. But it's so, so much more than that. It shows both Eddie and Buck fighting their demons, and being good for each other. It shows two adults navigating a relationship in both a healthy and realistic way. The author incorporates Canon in this fic in an amazing, seamless way. Christopher and Buck's relationship in this is perfection. I have reread this fic about five times. Tempted to reread again, ngl.

Eddie, Buck, and Christopher figuring out how to be a family.

This series has two amazing sickfics and one WIP that shows how the team, and Buddie specifically, handle the pandemic. I love these works a lot, they're always in character, always realistic and tender, and Buck and Christopher's relationship shines through, as does the love between the Diaz boys.

❄ The Ghosts That You Haunt by JessicaMDawn

The first time Evan Buckley died, he was ten.

"Apparently that won me a ticket to ghost town, because I've been seeing them ever since."

Buck can see the recently dead. It's not as glamorous as people might think.

This AU is wonderful. It's not the typical character can see ghosts fics. It's so very emotional and angsty and it hits all the right spots. Buck is such an amazing character here. The emotions are vivid and beautiful and realistic. I LOVE it.

❄ Scratch and Burn by JessicaMDawn

Christopher scratches Buck during the tsunami, but the rest of the debris hurts a lot more and Buck thinks nothing of it. The next day, however, Buck experiences a lot of changes that he doesn't know how to handle. Luckily, Eddie is there to help him through it.

Not ABO. This Werewolf AU is perfection. I love Buck's relationship with both Eddie and Christopher here. I won't say more to not spoil it, but it truly is wonderful.

After getting hurt on a call, Buck wakes up thinking it's 2018. AKA Buck can't remember who Eddie is but he's pretty sure everyone's lying when they say they're "just friends."

This fic is nothing short of perfection. Amnesia fics require a very delicate balance, and this one managed that perfectly. Misunderstandings, oblivious idiots in love, it has it all. The firedam's relationships with Buck is amazing, and they shine through here.

“Eddie?” he gasps in disbelief, taking in the sight of Eddie’s rumpled appearance. His shirt is ripped, Buck can see scrapes on his forearms where his sleeves are pushed up, and he’s got a nasty gash across his forehead, blood trickling down into his eyebrow. But he’s looking at Buck like he’s a prayer and a miracle all wrapped into one. “Eddie!”

His brain finally catches up with his legs and he rushes forward just as Eddie all but collapses into his embrace.

“Thank god,” Eddie heaves out raggedly, fingers clutched tightly in the back of Buck’s turnout coat.

I absolutely love this concept of Eddie replacing Abby on the train. This fic is sweet, cute and emotional. The characters are all spot on and just- it's AMAZING.

This series is a study in perfect pacing. It has pining, it has Eddie exploring his relationship with faith and it is possibly the perfect scenario for how these two can get together.

This is such a sweet and kind message. Listen, I have been writing fic more than half my life, and there are so many fics I've written/started that haven't been posted that allowed me to work on their characterisation and how I wanted to portray them (no joke; there are 70+ fics on my WIP list and that's only the ones I intend to finish and post). Skill and ease come from many hours of practice. But I am always thrilled that people enjoy my fics; I do a wiggle. Ask basically any Jalice Network member - I have no expectations that people are reading my work, and am always startled by praise.

Re: Shadow to Light Ch 10. Yes, it is happening. Yes, it will happen soon. STL is very precious to me and I am extremely particular with each chapter; I have a lot of strands that have to be dealt with, I want to make sure Mary-Alice and the Major's emotional arc is paced appropriately and in a satisfying way, and that people read the final chapter and are happy with how everything turned out.

I don't want to slap a date on when it will be uploaded as I have another huge university project due this month for my masters, and I'm tackling Nanowrimo as a way to catch up on my WIPs, but I swear, Chapter 10 is definitely happening.

As for recs, that I can definitely provide... Other than 1 or 2, these are mostly from FF.Net. My AO3 bookmarks are a mess and need to be reorganised. If you have a specific trope or genre, I can absolutely hook you up with more specific fics because I, uh, read a lot of fic over the past 6 years.

If you love Call of the Night-verse as much as I do, @volturialice wrote this A+ ficlet: The Protectors Read Thirst Tweets that is just a gift to the universe.

In Fate's Hands by BlackDiamond15 is an AU about what happens if Alice thought Jasper had died before they met, and went to the Cullens. It's a really complex and interesting look at them with a ton of cute moments. The ending is a little sudden, pacing wise, but definitely a good fic to sink into.

Perigean Spring by @unfortunate-twihard is a Human Alice/Vampire Jasper WIP I adore. It's intricate and original and I would love more, but I also love what we have so much.

Present Perfect by @gisellelx is an Alice and Edward friendship fic with some really interesting and lovely insight into Alice/Jasper's relationship. Because relationships aren't always easy and perfect, especially for vampires. I love the format of this, and it's just got so many little details that fill in a lot of world-building and background for me.

Hell Hath No Fury by inthemadhouse Most Jalice fans are aware of the incredible human AU WIP Midnight Run by the same author, but Hell Hath No Fury deserves some love too. It looks at vampirism and Jasper's relationship with the Cullens - and his past in a really fascinating way. Unfortunately, after a cancer diagnosis the author vanished so neither this nor Midnight Run will be finished. I only hope the author recovered and just lost interest.

Down the Rabbit Hole & Through the Looking Glass by casketformytears Two fits-with-canon fics that explore Alice searching for her past, and Alice and Jasper's search in Breaking Dawn. I absolutely love how Alice's maker was handled, and the Alice in Wonderland themes. This was one of the first fics I found and read when I got into the fandom, and I have to have read them a dozen times over.

Northern Lights by Kcerena definitely influenced how I see Alice and how she acts and reacts to expectations, not to mention aspects of their relationship.

Sins of Omission by latessitrice is exactly as far as I think that Alice would go for Jasper.

Whumptober 2020 by thefaultinourships/@frostyalice is the fic I go to when I need inspo or I'm just low on motivation. Every single one of them is pure gold. Hopefully that will tide you over and you haven't read too many of them already? :D

This event is a lowkey one, designed for us to take some time to catch up on asks, rec lists, and other blog pages that happen mostly in the background such as the masterlists, database, and post tagging.

This blog is a lot of work! And we're happy to help out with promoting authors and exposing readers to new and interesting stories based on their interests!

That being said, we need a break!

This is why we are closing the inbox for July.

Please refrain from sending asks for rec lists through submissions. We’re leaving that line open specifically for new authors to submit their projects.

We are going to utilize this time to try and clear out our inbox--we have over 100 messages, most of them asking for rec lists, which take a few weeks at a time to properly curate, tag, and put in the queue.

We will also be working behind the scenes on other projects we hope to show off soon!

Now, to get into some of the details. (This applies regardless of the event to every ask sent, even if the inbox is currently closed.)

RULES WHEN SENDING ASKS

If you can and it is relevant, please tag your asks with content warnings in the beginning. Such as (cw violence) or (cw death), this is an extra precaution to keep both our mods and our readers safe and well-advised. This will also make tagging easier!

Please keep your asks as brief as you can! Any asks that are more than two asks long may get eaten by the Tumblr machine and/or may not be answered due to length.

If your ask hasn't been answered, it may be because it already has been! Be sure to search the tags and FAQ before sending in an ask.

Please don't spam! We won't respond to inappropriate asks or asks that have already been answered.

Recommendation lists

If you are submitting an ask for a rec list please be aware that these lists take a lot of time and effort to make! In average, it might take us up to two weeks to fully finish and queue a rec list, sometimes even longer. We’re happy to put them together but we ask for patience and understanding.

With that in mind, here are some guidelines:

Please look through the #interact-if asks and #if: rec list tags before sending and ask.

Constantly looking out and keeping track of IF projects takes a good chunk of our time among our other responsibilities as mods. For this reason, we came up with a tagging system that makes it easy for our audience to look through the blog. Unfortunately, it gets overlooked most of the time.

And for this reason, we get repetitive asks, which we ignore and delete.

The tagging system is there for your and our convenience. If you’re not sure whether you’re asking for a rec list of the same theme/genre that has already been posted, please consider looking through the aforementioned tags before sending an ask.

As much as we love entertaining the rec list asks, it does tend to be bothersome having to constantly reblog and link new asks to the posted rec lists, as well as reminding people to use the tagging system.

Please make your ask neither too broad nor specific.

This isn’t to sound finicky we promise! If an ask is looking for fantasy IFs without specifics we cannot properly curate a list of what you’re looking for. Is it modern fantasy? Medieval? Non-Eurocentric? Do you want fae fantasy? Supernatural? Fantasy is one of the most popular genres and asks like this example we cannot properly answer.

This is why we ask for rec list requests to be not too broad.

As for narrow–too narrow an ask will likely return a very short or non-existent list! At the end of the day there are only so many IFs and very specific niches may not be filled. We will try our best to answer, but likely your list will result in games adjacent to your request that we think best kind of sort of fit your request. We’re doing our best with the IFs that are out there.

Please be patient!

We often spend several days working on a single list. If your ask hasn’t been answered yet it may still be in the works or in our queue! If it’s been a long while and it still has not been answered, it may have been ignored for a variety of reasons including: Too broad an ask, too similar to previous rec lists, contains NSFW or offensive materials, etc. Please refrain from sending multiple check up asks

On the topic of NSFW asks/content…

We have received some inquiries regarding NSFW (like smutty scenes) recommendations in IF recently, and believe it best to clarify the stance Interact IF has on the matter.

We will be refraining from answering questions about explicit sexual content in IF. We as a team do not feel we have the expertise to help with this, nor have we been on the lookout for explicitly sexual IFs.

As well, it is not entirely suitable for the blog, as Interact IF is for all ages and there may be minors following it.

We would like this blog to remain as SFW as we can manage, with games properly tagged for their age groups and limiting asks and rec lists to non-sexually-explicit content.

Game Recommendations

Before sending in a game, please keep these aspects in mind:

DO

The game must be interactive fiction–the reader plays a character (either customizable or pre-determined) and makes choices that influence the game in some way.

The game can be text-based or a visual novel.

The game does NOT violate copyright (i.e. A published for-profit IF that is using the Star Wars universe. If it is not-for-profit (it’s free to play) then this is fine)

DON’T

If you play a character and can physically move them (walk, run, jump, attack), we consider this a video game and isn’t currently a niche we are supporting.

Recommend a game produced by a company–we are here to support individual authors or games written collaboratively by a group of authors/artists/etc.

Don’t recommend games that glorify violence, sexual violence, racism, sexism, and so on. Or which has (an) author(s) who also have a history of having engaged In aspects like these.

If your rec is good to go, here’s what you have to do! If you are able please provide a link to the post to reblog - this makes it a lot easier on us!If the game is 18+What language/program the game is in (Twine, Choicescript, Ren'py, etc.)If the game has a currently playable demo. Can you recommend games that are finished or complete?

We have a tag for that! Check out #status: complete, though you can also check out COG, Hosted Games, and search for complete games on Itch.io.

I can’t find a game and can’t remember the title, help!

If you’re struggling to find a beloved game and can’t remember the title–go to our Reddit and see if it’s there at the Lost & Found! If not, you can ask our community on the Reddit to help find it, or join our discord and ask there!

I noticed you failed to include x game on a list, so I will inform the author about it.

Please, don’t. The mods here are nothing but human, so we do our best to include as many games as we can remember, and frequently ask other people for help. However, this doesn’t mean we will include every single game in existence. We will forget, things will slip, so the least we ask of you is to leave a reply or send an ask and we will add it in. We promise we always keep a close eye on those.

The extra step of informing the author about this is unnecessary. The only thing you’re causing is either making the author feel left out or having them reach out to us to be added, which is essentially the same thing we ask of you to do. Do I have any?? Uhm I follow so many amazing writers aaa here are my favorite obey me fics! These are off the top of my head and i apologise if most are barbatos--

1. Quick Transmigration: The secondary character counterattacks! by @devildom-dedicated-daydreams

By far the longest work on my list and it is still not finished. I have such a profound love for it that i wait until the specific character's story is completely over instead of reading it in chapters and then i spent like 3 hours glued to my phone just going ham. (Please carefully look at the warnings because it has blood and revenge and panic attacks and death and A LOT!!)

2. Sacrilege by @obeythebutler

I think we can all agree Simeon is one of the most complex characters obey me has so wondering about him and thinking thoughts is always fun! (Even if this fic is definitely angsty)

3. crying over spilt milk by @inb4belphienaps

This right here is a fic I wil never let amiko live down because it is my favorite!! Okay!! THE POETIC NATURE THE PAINTED IMAGES IN MY MIND ARE STRONG!! I don't even like belphie that much but this fic hits !!

4. Have strength my lady by @sondepoch

While this fic is not gn (sorry about that but you did not specify it in the ask) IT IS SO GOOD! It is my favorite Barbatos fic ever ?? Like completely!! And it has two parts! Sometimes I will just be sitting on my couch and remember the ending and IT STILL GETS TO ME!

5. Unwind and unveil by @gatchagay

Mammon is easily somewhat of a guilty pleasure to me and after all the angst recs I highly recommend this one to pick you back up! It just brings out fluffy feelings in me!

6. Icarus by @kitsune-oji

Ok back to angst once again! Yes, it is Barb angst! But really, some fics highly depend on their characters but in this one you can imagine it as a life lesson with anyone you really want? At least that is how I treat it. Breakups are inevitable but make sure you learn from them.

7. Checkmate by @s8ncake

You did not specify if it had to be a reader insert fic so please enjoy this one too that made me ship Satan and Diavolo when I never even imagined them as a pair! IT HAS NUANCE!! IT HAS EMOTIONAL BAGGAGE! IT HAS DIAVOLO + CATS!!

These are the ones i remembered when I saw the ask! I should probably make a full recs page tho hmmmmmnn
