He took a deep breath in. This could not be happening.
“I love you” Arthur repeated.
Merlin knew that there was still the telltale traces of gold in his eyes. The world was crumbling around him; the trees seemed to grow into blurry stripes in his peripheral and the lush foliage of the forest turned into blobs of green.
“No, no Arthur” The warlock begged. “Don’t be cruel” a small tear escaped his eye.
“Merlin. Merlin, it’s okay, it’s okay!” The prince tried calming him down, but his manservant only seemed to speed up his breathing, eyes blurring nearly unseeing.
“Ar-thur” he rasped in between breaths.
Arthur slowly walked towards Merlin as if he was approaching a startled child. For every step the prince looked up to check if it was okay for Merlin.
When he finally reached him, he hesitated before putting his arms around his shaking friend.
“Shhh Merlin, it’s okay, it’s okay shh I-“ Arthur soothed “I- I’m so sorry Merlin, I should have told you I knew. But- but I just wanted you to trust me, and now I’ve gone and made you suffer more.”
Merlin looked up at the blonde “you, you knew?” He whispered.
“Yes, Merlin, can you remember 5 months ago when I was really angry for 3 weeks?”
Merlin’s brows furrowed, “where you kept destroying training dummies?”
“Yeah”
The warlocks breathing had calmed down a fair amount, he even huffed out a laugh at the response.
“I was angry, because what the hell was a sorcerer doing in Camelot doing my dirty laundry?!”
Merlin looked up with a hesitant grin “mmh I wonder that myself sometimes” he tried bantering, only really betrayed by his voice cracking mid sentence.
There was a lot of things to talk about, really, both Arthur and Merlin knew it, but for now they let themselves rest in the knowledge that the long hidden secret was out in the open.
“And actually it’s warlock” Merlin added a little braver, with a smug smile, before placing his face into his prince’s neck once more
“Hhm, and the difference?” Arthur spoke into a mob of black hair.
“I was born with it”
Arthur stiffened and Merlin did as well upon the blonde’s reaction.
“THEN WHY THE HELL DID YOU COME TO CAMELOT, U IDIOT!?” The prince was trying to sound mad at his manservant’s idiocy, but he couldn’t help the fondness in his tone. Only Merlin would be that ridiculous.
“Well, you were here” the Warlock simply said.
And as absurd as that sounded, destiny would agree.

2023 WRITING REVIEW
tagged: no one i just wanted to do this and i forgot about it soz </3 tagging : board of directors i'd tag u here but this is mostly fic-based so sorree... anyway if u have already done this my b.... i wld like to see ur post tho @evcndiaz | @brimay | @usignedupforthis | @seek--rest | @posallys | @dustorangeheartssnowman | @adhd-merlin | @queerofthedagger
number of stories posted to ao3: 34 ±1 bc i updated a fic from a while back <3
word counted posted for last year: 90k... a feat (i wrote more but it was ofic so add like maybe 10k to that)
fandoms i wrote for: alex stern series, merlin, house md, pjo, spidey, hunger games, doctor who, & the grisha trilogy
pairings: merthur / arwen / mergwenthur / mergana, darlingstern, hilson, percabeth, petermj, everlark, tenrose, malina
stories with the most KUDOS: jealousy, jealousy (house md) with 522 <3 BOOKMARKS: except my life (merlin) with 137 <3 COMMENT THREADS: rip current (pjo) with 38 <3 *technically the answer to all of these is tested with torment but that's a fic i updated so i don't reallyyyyyy count it
work i'm most proud of (and why): thread of gold (arwen, bbc merlin) because i don't exactly post 2nd person fic and tbh most people HATEEEEE 2nd person fic AND i got people to enjoy it. HA!
work i'm least proud of (and why): coffee drinker (gen fic, bbc merlin) because it was just a promptfic and i didn't even really feel like posting it but i wrote it so i might as well yk?
share or describe a favorite review you received: any review that quotes a line but this one from judas kiss (arwen, bbc merlin)...
THIS. IS. WONDERFUL ❤️❤️❤️ *creates bookmark with gusto* I LOVE that you dug into what it might have been like for Gwen while she was under that enchantment! It was so creative to have her past memories blurring with glimpses of the present during the enchantment. I *felt* her disorientation, and it *hurt*. I felt so bad for Gwen all over again! 😭😭😭 That aspect of this story could have been a fantastic standalone one-shot in its own right, but noooo, you raised the bar and KEPT GOING and made it even better!!! I love that you showed Gwen and Merlin staying friends after Gwen becomes queen, and I love how she confides in him and how he immediately drops everything to go look for the offending piece of jewelry. The bit about Arthur’s incredulity at Merlin’s method of testing the enchantment was a great dash of humor, and I love that you fleshed out the concept of the enchantment to be something the others could experience so that they could truly *know* that Gwen had been innocent. And don’t even get me started on how much I love Arthur’s “Forgive me.” I love how he doesn’t think twice about humbling himself in front of everyone because his focus is solely on Gwen, consumed by the urgency of doing the right, honorable, and loving thing in that moment. You write Arthur and Gwen’s relationship so beautifully. 💕 Well done; I hate you (/affectionate) for all these feels. 🥰🫂👏
a time when writing was really, really hard: august through october... idek why i was literally in agony not writing
a scene or character you wrote that surprised you: writing jj in spider-man: homewrecker because i've NEVER written him before (in my memory) and i was like. Hello .
a favorite excerpt of your writing: cannae lie i have a few favs so... killing is a love language (mergana, bbc merlin) Heartbreak snakes up his throat, constricting him at the sight of her. Morgana’s beauty is incontestable even like this, but her hatred wore her down to her bones. Gone were the full cheeks and rosy lips, the perfectly combed hair, the wardrobe that would put princesses to shame. Now, her face is sunken in, her hair a curled storm, her dress is merely black rags at this point. thread of gold (arwen, bbc merlin) Your father’s presence is larger than life. Larger than love. It looms. It casts shadows long enough to hide every hope and dream you’ve ever had for yourself. the boy and the girl (malina, the grisha trilogy) Memory fractures into shards. Real or not real? There’s Mal in the meadow. Mal buried beneath the hanging tree. Mal cold in her palms. There’s a sky darker than night. Her hands bloodied. A knife lodged in his heart. Her knife. His blood. Her fault. She killed him. She loves him. Her fault. Rest her head on his still chest. Her fault. No heartbeat. Her fault. No warmth. Cold light spilling from her palms. She killed him. The Saint’s only true worshipper martyred.
how did you grow as a writer last year: my hopes from last year was that i finally finish a multichap fic.... 😭 does a short 3-shot count. besides that i wrote more consistently and i'm finally Used to my writing style. i think.
how do you hope to grow this year: hell if i know if i could write something longer than 20k that'd be great 😭😭😭😭
who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer, beta, cheerleader, etc.): the board.... @rosesau / @bipercabeth / @stellwood fnh...... i'd tag katie but she absconded from tumblr smh. anyway hi freaks n geeks
anything from your real life show up in your writing last year: oh i don't even know. nothing ig
any new wisdom you can share with other writers: bro idek the more i write the more writing becomes fundamentally so hard to talk about ... sorreeee
any projects you're looking to starting (or finishing) this year: IF I DON'T FUCKING MAKE PROGRESS ON MY PLAY I WILL BASH MY HEAD INTO A WALL. THIS CAN'T KEEP HAPPENING. ATLAS AND VIVIAN YOU WILL BE WRITTEN ON THE PAGE INSHALLAH

Stancy is Officially out as my fav poly Jancy ship,😌 esp after this new fic of yours, which made me wiggle around like a delighted little sea slug.
Honestly, Nancy deserves to smoke some weed and admire her bf with Argyle. When’s the last time she’s gotten a break like this tbh?? Ever??
Jonathan Byers, simp extraordinaire for his gf and bf(f). (This fantastic dynamic feels a little bit like how I feel Merlin/Arthur/Gwen would have been if bbc hadn’t been Cowards(tm).) also…\o/ shotgunning shotgunning shotgunning sho—
Also, the undercurrent of Ow in regards to Jonathan’s Extreme amount of trauma? you somehow managed to thread a bit of Pain into this lovely interaction. (“He’s sick of being domestic–he just wants to be a teenager!” & “I’m fine,” he lies, and it’s an easy one to roll off of his tongue. He’d been doing it all his life.” &!!!! V much!!!!! “Secondary parent, half-mother and half-father, always up in the morning to make breakfast for his little brother, and always relegated to haunting the back of classrooms and the edges of hallways–the creep and the weirdo.” Crying screaming on the floor eating my phone bye). (Also also Jon doubting that Will needs him anymore, nonoo oh dear no he does need u I promise. Crying yelling throwing up curling into a ball. He’s always gonna need his big bro and Jon doubting that is sending off death flags which are oh dear 😭)
Argyle is just. Such a good, kind guy, and good for Jon and Nancy. Like a soothing lotion/sun screen on the burn that is their horrific lives.
“Jonathan and Nancy both stare at Argyle’s mouth, watch it catch against the joint.” 🤭hohoho honestly making me ship Both of them equally w Argyle,
“My fair little Wheeler” orz on the floor bye
If there is not at least One (1) interaction between the three of them in s5 that is even a quarter as good as this one, honestly I’m throwing tomatoes at the Duffers’ houses.
Anyway, lovely wonderful fic!! Hope you are having a good week and thank you for improving mine🥰
VEEEEE i'm glad you liked the Jarncy fic hehehe. i know it's not my typical wheelhouse, but it was so fun to write, so it's nice to hear you enjoyed it!! :D tbh the biggest compliment i was hoping for from this fic was hearing at least one person say they ship it a little more than Stoncy after reading it, so you have fulfilled my wish 😌 (no hate to Stoncy ofc lol)
LITERALLY let Nancy Wheeler smoke weed. or just something - she's going through it just as much as anybody else, and i think she deserves a chance to relax 😩
and you're so right about Merlin and you should say it louder
yeah we can't have anything nice around here without a little pain right :) idk Jonathan is a very personal character for me because i grew up as the eldest in a single-mother household, so there's a lot about his position in life that i relate to too much, hence the angst bleeding over a little into this fic. maybe someday i'll post that other Jonathan one shot i wrote! it's got plenty more of some of the stuff discussed in this one 🙃
and yeah him and Will :') listen the most surprising thing about this fic for me was realizing that, in this scenario, Jonathan would actually be in a very similar position as Mike. furthermore, I think Jonathan struggles with being needed like Mike, too. i think Mike's is more wanting to be needed and getting sidelined while Jonathan's is more having been needed for so much of his life that he doesn't know what his life would look like without being needed. and that definitely showed here :') my poor dude i want to give him a hug
...but that's what Argyle's for, right? GAH i thought the same thing that you said!! i think there's something appealing about having Jonathan and Nancy, who are both really tightly-wound and damaged by The Horrors, buddying up with Argyle, who's pretty mellow and chill (as long as he doesn't like, you know, have to bury a guy in the desert lol). i thought his character would be a good contrast for both of them, and i'm glad that came across :D
Vee i am once again saying that i am so glad you liked this fic :] i knew it was gonna be a kinda niche thing and wasn't sure how it would go over, but tbh, just hearing that you liked it makes me smile :] also this one really challenged me just for its subject matter and working with different characters, so it ended up being personally rewarding? listen i know people really liked irresistible, but it didn't particularly challenge me in any way and subsequently i didn't end up liking it as much as some of my other fics,,,like it was fun and all, but i didn't feel really connected to it. this one, though, made me feel a lot better!! it was fun to try something new and challenge myself!!
i'm definitely gonna be writing more byler next tho lol. i promise i've got stuff i'm working on. i just gotta get my shrimp brain organized 🍤
this has gotten so long :') anyway Vee it is always lovely to hear from you, so honestly, thank you for improving my week :] i hope the rest of your week goes well!! 💜
(also i'm still staring at your aftry art btw 💐💐💐)

❤🚀🥳 for the fanfic asks :3
hehe thank u lavender my love!!! ^_^ 💚🌟
❤️ what is your favorite line that you’ve written in a fic?
damn i’ve got so many fics it’s rly hard to think of one 😭 ahhh…
The poems that ensued were rather sweet, though Merlin didn’t seem as into them as he did the first, and Arthur wondered who it was that broke his poor manservant's heart, and he wondered about being the one to hold Merlin’s heart, and then he looked at Merlin’s hands, holding the book of poems.
— from Circumlocution (E, 5.9k) on AO3
i really like the movement in this line, and ik it’s like “how tf is there mvmt that’s a fucking sentence,” but LOOK. it counts cuz of the commas. okay? ^_^ and i just rly like the cadence of it. very lovely. i’m sure there’s other lines, this is just the one that popped into my head first lol <3
🚀 do you like to outline your fic first or create as you go?
in theory i like to outline and sometimes i do if i have a lot of ideas for a fic at once (like how im doing with my football au) but sometimes i just write the og idea at the top of the doc (eg “Roy jamie “All I’ve ever wanted is you, you fucking idiot!”) and go crazy writing
🥳 why did you start writing fanfic?
i’ve always written, like, before i could even properly write, but fanfic in particular was because i was nine years old and really fucking liked the percy jackson series (my dad made me delete my og ffn account but there r fics on the new acct i made later when i was like twelve)
fanfic writer asks!! :3

hi do u have any merlin whump fics pls. preferably violent ones with a lot of guilt. maybe ones where it's mostly arthurs fault? if not that's ok thank uou
Waiting in the Dark by kriadydragon*
Merlin made a promise.
Oubliette by SGE*
When Arthur discovers Merlin's magic, he consigns him to the horrors of Camelot's deepest dungeon. But when a curse strikes at the heart of the kingdom, can the King repair the damage he's done, and can Merlin find his way back from the darkness.
knight in shining armour by freakymcgoo
“I want him to wake up.” Gaius patted Arthur’s shoulder. “In time, Sire.” - Merlin gets hurt by a visiting prince, and Arthur bears the guilt. Set around season four.
hide and seek by southfarthing
In Arthur’s more selfish moments, he caught himself wondering whether it would be better if Merlin was dead – if that was better than the alternative. Better being at peace than fearing and hating Arthur in a self-imposed exile. It was a hurt that Arthur had always felt but had never been brave enough to address. But now… if it’s true – if Merlin has been caged this whole time…
- On the run from Camelot, Merlin is captured and locked away with a dragon. It is years before Arthur can find him and bring him back home.
Healing by paintedpigeon
Merlin opens his mouth to argue, then closes it. It’s not like Arthur will let him off if he tells him his leg’s injured anyway, not surrounded by his father’s knights. “Yes, Arthur,” he mutters. Merlin gets injured on a hunt and nobody notices. Until somebody does.
Open Eyes by N16
After Merlin experiences abuse at the hands of a visiting lord, Arthur decides his manservant needs to learn how to defend himself. But Merlin is unimpressed with Arthur's solution, and Arthur is forced to confront some unpleasant truths about what happens right under his nose. How can he protect a kingdom when he can't even protect those inside his castle? One-shot.
Run Ragged by LadyWallace*
It's time for another tournament in Camelot but when Arthur offers Merlin's services to a knight whose servant got an unfortunate injury, Merlin finds the man intolerable and demanding. Will he be able to make it through the tournament serving two masters?
here's a few! the ones i starred are probably closest to what you're looking for, but i played pretty fast and loose with what you asked. hope you enjoy!

Watching the Rise of the Titans movie and I'll be documenting all of my thoughts/reactions here. [Spoiler Warning]
So instead of reblogging every new update, I'm just going to have this post up on my phone as I watch and type my reactions in a bullet list format.
Nari's human disguise is so cute. As someone who does have a cottagecore aesthetic, I want to cosplay her so bad
Are Skrael and/or Belroc non-binary coded? Regardless, I'm also obsessed and I want to fuck Skrael and be Belroc.
STEVE CARING ABOUT JIM BEING HURT YESSSS!!! My god his redemption has probably been one of the greatest there is because he doesn't just suddenly go from being a bully to a completely good person. You can see the gradual shift in learning better throughout the shows which is awesome.
IN NEW YOOOOOOORRRRRRRK!!!!!! CONCRETE JUNGLE WHERE DREAMS ARE MADE OFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!
The mugshot montage reminded me of season 1 of trollhunters when toby and Jim were arrested at the museum.
STRICKLER PUT A RING ON IT??? HE'S THE ONLY DILF IVE EVER ACTUALLY AGREED WAS HOT WYM I CAN'T HAVE HIM??? well I'm still really happy about his arc over the series probably one of my favorite character growths.
Eli my guy got his growth spurt!!! As an 18 year old who is still 5'0", I'm happy but envious for him
So I went into this movie without watching any trailers or promo, but I doubt anything could have prepared me for the existence of mpreg. In fact, I wasn't going to document my reactions until I saw that.
NAMURA!!!!!!!!! MY BELOVED!!!!!! I CAN STILL THIRST FOR YOU WITHOUT GUILT
The coach teacher just called the kids zoomers so I have to dock one point from my final rating just because of that. Unforgivable
Those husky animation models suck lmao
Oh fuck the titans got power ranger zords!!
God why did they include the mpreg??? This movie would have been perfect without it.... After that plot point being revisited only one time I'm already beyond done with it
Like it's bringing me back to the v*ltron days where they're was a suspiciously high amount of klance omegaverse and mpreg fics and art created and it physically hurts because Steve and Keith's voice actor is the same person meaning this is especially cursed to me since I was unfortunately in the v*ltron fandom and remember all of that
But like on another note, how old are these characters again??? I haven't checked any wikis because of spoilers but is Steve an adult??? I know aja might be technically a lot older than 18 because alien but is whatever age she is equivalent to an adult as far as emotionally and physically in Akaridion development??? IS THIS A TEEN (M)PREGNANCY IN A KIDS SHOW????
Like bruh I saw a singular post on here before going into the movie that was like "rott spoilers without context" and there was a pregnant belly but I was absolutely not expecting the actual context of it. I'll find the post after I finish and edit this post to tag the creator right here: @makoden
This entire post is just gonna be me ranting about mpreg huh
Anyway I love the whole roundtable allusion to the legends of king arthur (not the toa version but the one he's based off)
THERE'S 3 TO 5 BABIES????? I need to take a break bruh this is just too much
Alright I've taken a 30 minute break got some food and did some things i love (decompressed by tactile stimming with some owl plushies and watched some videos on my favorite owl, Garu. He lives in Japan with his owner and is a domesticated eagle owl who basically just acts like a sky cat. If anyone else needs some eye bleach, here is their YouTube channel)
Blinky and ARRRGHHH!!! saying their "if one of us doesn't make it" talk my god one of them is going to die I can see it and I will be utterly crushed. Jim can't lose another father figure and Toby can't lose his wingman again I will riot if this happens
On a similar but unrelated to the movie note, can we just talk about how toa started with Jim having 0 dads and (if strickler and blinky live to the end) will end with 2 dads? Like I just really feel happy for him that he has two dads who actually figured out how to put the past behind them to not have any infighting between them so that both of them are healthy father figures. Jim has already been through literal hell and back losing his actual humanity in the process so if he loses one of them, I'm going to be really pissed because at this point, this is just Jim torture porn. Y'all know how as SpongeBob SquarePants went on, the show just became Squidward torture porn? It's starting to feel that way for toa and I really hope they cut the shit by the ending
Jlaire is such a good ship but like I feel like it's too perfect they never disagree with each other
YESSSSSSS Someone finally doesn't treat toby like a fat waste of space who messes stuff up!!! I think out of all the characters that would have been most deserving of a rewrite, it's Toby. Sometimes I just feel he's only comic relief and any heartfelt moments he's had in the series was also born of stupidity (ie his flour baby project being unharmed was seen by him as divine intervention from his parents but was actually just Eli and Steve behind the scenes).
Ohhhhh yesssssss Archie's father!!! I was hoping I'd see him again because we got so little of him last
Ooooooooooh Asian trollmarket!!!!!
Oh never mind slavery trollmarket
Bruh titanic camelot
I feel like we're not seeing enough of the villains because I completely forgot about the power ranger zord things
NAMORA NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MY LAST CRUSHHHH
STRICKLER NO NOT YOU TOO PLEASE
WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
THE ONLY TWO CHARACTERS I SIMP FOR ON THIS SHOW DIED WITHIN FIVE MINUTES OF EACH OTHER
THAT WHOLE ASS RANT I WROTE IS COMING TRUE FUCK THIS MOVIE THIS SERIES IS JUST JIM TORTURE PORN
WAIT JIM'S SPERM DONOR INFO?
Oh thank God I don't want to know anything about that person
For the record, I call that man Jim's sperm donor because he has no business being called a father to him. All he did was donate some swimmers to the creation of him and give him abandonment issues
Oh another blind troll elder???? This fucker is just if vendel was a bad guy
Bruh I was grieving
PACIFIC RIM WITH GUN ROBOT VEX AND THE BELROCZORD? I've never seen that movie but I know the reference
Bruh Blinky doesn't read horoscopes? Does he realize conspiracy theories are just the manly version of horoscopes?
NO DON'T KILL VEX STOP KO-ING FOUND FAMILY MEMBERS
Oh thank God he's okay
NO NOT ARCHIE AND CHARLEMAGNE OH MY GOD
oh never mind they're just gonna coup de tat I believe in them :))
But I want to see him again
But I'm glad to see vex
Yay they're in arcadia!
But yeah I wondered why the trolls and Merlin didn't keep the whole "daylight doesn't hurt trolls" feature from the eternal night but now Guillermo del Toro I see you were playing the long con in that just to kill my girl Namora :(((
Oooooh I love the animation of the Narizord over Chihuahua!! It looks very good and realistic (if only they could have put some of that into those huskies from before smh)
Bruh the character designs of the arcane order are so good I want to be them
Nari making sure the Skraelzord doesn't crush the bus
DAMN DOUBLE HOMICIDE
Bruh I'm just glad we finally have an answer on why arcadia had everything going on as opposed to literally anywhere else!! I always found that as a weird coincidence for plot convince.
BRUH WERE BACK TO THE MPREG IM SO JEALOUS I FORGOT ABOUT THAT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS BECAUSE I WAS GRIEVING THE LOSS OF MY LOVELIES.
Oh that's real convenient that the ninth configuration meant all of them. Way to not decide which character gets more attention. Though it probably was a smart way to not have any infighting in the fandom between each character's stan group.
Bruh I just realized where is Barbera did they just ditch her on the Camelot ship???
And where are the other trolls that migrated at the end of trollhunters s3? They said something about new jersey but obviously Jim and the other main characters got on Camelot instead.... This feels like a plot hole
And we never learned the process of how changelings are made and bonded to humans and stuff. We just know it's super painful but I'm curious ffs!!!!
THE DONT THINK BECOME HERO SPEECH ALL SAID TOGETHER!!!
BRUH THEY REALLY HAD TO SHOW HIM GIVING BIRTH??????? WAS THAT AN ABSOLUTE MUST??????
Plus the main audience for this series is little children (the rating for the movie is literally TV-Y7) so even though my adult ass is not in the target audience, I STILL DONT UNDERSTAND WHY WOULD MPREG AND ANAL BIRTH WOULD BE AN IMPORTANT THING TO 7 YEAR OLDS???? THIS IS A LITERAL FETISH HIDDEN IN KIDS CONTENT ITS ELSAGATE ALL OVER AGAIN Y'ALL 😭😭😭😭😭
Though it's probably hypocritical of me to think fetishes don't belong in kids tv when I've openly admitted to thirsting for strickler and namora
HUZZAH
NEW AMULET WAZ GOOD????
STAB THAT BITCH JIM
WAIT NO I SAID STAB NOT GET STABBED
Alright good job just missed the directions at first but you fixed it
SEVEN KIDS?????????
T O B Y ????????????
W A I T NO
N O
IS HE ACTUALLY
OH MY GOD THERE'S HOPE
NO THERE ISN'T
F U C K THIS SHIT THEY REALLY JUST HAD HIM TO BE BULLIED THEN KILLED
Y'ALL IM ACTUALLY CRYING THIS NEVER HAPPENS
I NEVER ACTUALLY GET SO EMOTIONAL OVER MEDIA THAT I CRY IT ONLY HAPPENED ONCE AT THE END OF VOLTRON BUT AHHHHHHHH
W A I T
HE'S GONNA BE BROUGHT BACK?????
HOLD UP THEY'RE JUST GONNA BRING ALL THOSE DEAD PEOPLE BACK??????
WAIT IS HE
BLINKY CALLED HIM A SON
HOLD ON IS THIS GOING TO BE A CLIFFHANGER???????????
BRUH THEY REALLY JUST CAN'T END THE SERIES WITHOUT CLIFFHANGERS like there's always an open ending
TROLLHUNTER TOBY????? You know what forget the whole rants I had on how toby was written they just redeemed it all
And that's all! I'd rate it a 6.5/10 because it's definitely the weakest of all the sequels but still had amazing animation and some good plot points. It's just really hard to look over the bad stuff enough to rate it any higher.

The Doe - Harry Potter x fem!reader
A/n: Harry's second child is named Arthur Remus in this. Albus Severus is a god awful name about two god awful people.
Harry was quickly running to the seventh floor. He was running late for class.
You see, Harry was a teacher. An illegal one, maybe. But, a teacher nonetheless. He was certainly a better teacher than toad-face.
Today, Harry was going to teach a very important lesson. Today was the day where the students would learn expecto-patronum.
He was watching the students file into the Room of Requirements. The excited chatter of teenagers filled the empty room.
"Alright. Alright!" Said Harry, immediately silencing any conversation. "Today, we will be learning the patronus charm. It is one of the most difficult spells to learn, so don't be discouraged if you don't get it on your first try."
Harry did the demonstration of the spell, a bright white stag erupting from the end of his wand.
"Think of your happiest memory. Allow it to fill you up." He said while circling around the room. "A full body patronus is the most difficult to produce."
He was getting lost in the magic and pure joy that echoed across the room, and that's when he saw it.
A glittering silver doe standing right in front of him. Some students stopped to stare at the marvel aswell. Harry's patronus seemed to notice, and it began to walk towards the doe. The stag bowed his head. The doe reciprocated, only to scamper off seconds later with the stag following suit.
Harry stood in awe for a few moments. He tried to think back to his teachings, but his mind kept going back to that damn doe.
And that one class became two. Then three. Then the week.
One month.
It's been one month. And that's when he told Ron.
"I don't know, Ron. I can't stop thinking about it. It keeps coming back. And I tried to ignore it, but then it comes back stronger than ever before." Harry expressed to his friend.
"I don't know what to tell you mate." Said Ron as he bit into a chocolate frog.
"I know... it's just... I feel... something."
"What do you want me to do?"
"I don't know! Just.... will I ever find her?"
Ron looked at his friend. Harry was hunched over with sullen eyes. He was deep in thought. He's serious, Ron thought.
"Cheer up, mate. I'm sure you will find her again."
Harry got up from his bed and started pacing. "What if I don't? I saw something incredible. Indescribable even... I found my soulmate, Ron!" Harry was almost shouting in frustration.
"Relax! It's not my fault. Stop screaming at me!" Ron told Harry. Harry began to take deep breaths and sat back on his mattress.
"I've never felt this way about anyone before. I've never had someone to love, you know? I don't want them to slip away like everyone else."
"Hey, not everyone has slipped away. You still have me and Hermione!"
Harry chuckled. "Thank you for listening. I know it's weird to talk about sappy stuff with me."
"Hey. If you can't talk to your friend about your soulmate, what good are they?"
-*-*-*-
Harry prepared for the next lesson, this week focusing on protego. The library was quite empty, only a few second years and one other fifth year.
That fifth year in question is a certain Y/N L/N. She was.... wow. She was one of the most beautiful people in her year. Her H/C hair was so lush and thick and shined in the sun. It shined almost as much as her eyes, which captivated whoever looked into them.
But it's not just her looks that captured the hearts of many, it was also her mind. Her brilliant mind. She could answer any question in the blink of an eye. She could pass any test with flying colors. But, she was creative and oh so kind. More kind than anybody Harry had ever met. Just being in her presence was enough to brighten anyone's day.
Certainly enough to lighten mine, thought Harry.
"Hello, Harry." Y/N said. She had moved to sit across from him.
"U-um. Hello, Y/N." Harry studdard.
"Did you need me? You were looking at me so I thought you might need help."
"Oh. Um-no. It's nothing. Don't worry."
"Well, alright. Just out of curiosity, what are you researching."
Harry looked down to his roll of parchment. "Protego. I'm going to teach it next class."
"That good. It's important to be able to protect yourself. Be sure to discuss protego maxima. It protects against even stronger spells. Seems quite important for an 'army'."
"Of course. Thank you for the recommendation"
Y/N leaned closer to Harry till her lips brushed against his ear. "I'm very excited about our next class." She pulled away, winked, and walked away.
Harry's heart couldn't stop beating. He was panting, yet felt like he couldn't breath. No. No. No. No. I have a soulmate. I can't fall in love with someone else, thought Harry.
-*-*-*-
Harry wondered aimlessly down the corridors under his invisibility cloak. The night was peaceful. Just him and his thoughts, no interruptions. Until he heard a choked sob. It sounded like it came from a first year. What did the toad do the poor first year.
He rounded the corner to see Y/N comforting a young Slytherin girl. "I know. I know, Amelia." The Slytherin was still sobbing hard as ever, no matter how much consolidation she recieved. "Is there anything I can do to make you feel better?"
"No. Just be here. Just hug me." Said Amelia. Harry could see a tear trickle down Y/N's face.
"You want to see something cool?" Amelia nodded, though it seemed a bit reluctant. "I'm going to cast a spell. Are you ready?" Amelia nodded again, much more vigorously.
"Expecto Patronum."
And there it was.
That damn doe.
That damn doe that haunted him since the day he saw it.
That damn doe that made him rethink so many choices.
That goddamn doe... the love of his life.
He knew that he probably shouldn't do it. He knew that he could be caught if he were to. But, he couldn't help himself. He couldn't fucking help himself.
"Expecto Patronum." Harry whispered.
A stag erupted out of the top of the wand. It immediately ran towards the doe, almost as if he missed her. The stag pranced around both Y/N and doe before bowing down. Just like in the Room of Requirements.
"Can I touch it?" asked Amelia.
"I don't see why not."
She reached up to touch the deer. As soon as she did, Amelia started giggling. Y/N did as well. It felt like pure happiness.
They backed away, and the doe took their place. She bowed down as well. They raised their heads and look into each other's eyes. They kept eye contact as they stepped closer together. Until they came together.
Before long, the deers disappeared.
"I can go back, now." Said Amelia.
"Do you want me to bring you back?" Asked Y/N.
"No thank you." Amelia made her way down the hall. Y/N waited until she couldn't hear the patter of feet.
"Harry. I know you're there. Harry! Where are you?"
Harry took off his cloak before spewing out apologies, "I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to make you uncomfortable or if I messed up. I couldn't help myself. I should have stopped myself. I knew this was - mmmph!" His rant was cut off by a pair of lips on his.
"Harry, there is nothing to apologize for!" Y/N giggled. Merlin, it sound like music. Harry couldn't help but laugh with her.
"So...."
"So...."
"You're my soulmate then, Y/N?"
"If you would like to call me that, I suppose."
"I would if that's alright with you." Harry places his face in the crook of her neck. Y/N could feel the shit-eating grin on his face. "Would you like to go to Hogsmead on Sunday?"
"Sounds lovely."
-*-*-*-
"James! Wake up!" Y/N tried waking up her son. "Come on. It's your first day of school."
"No. Bed."
"James, if you don't get up, I'm confiscating your broom." Said the boy's mother. It's safe to say that he got ready alarmingly quickly.
Lovely, thought Y/N. She walked downstairs to her two other children eating breakfast. "Good morning, Lily. Good morning, Arthur." She finished each greeting with a kiss on the forehead.
"Good morning, mum!" Said Lily. She was bouncing up and down with excitement, even if she wasn't going to Hogwarts just yet. Arthur stayed silent, however.
"Arthur? You okay? It's your first day at Hogwarts! You should be excited." Said his mother.
"I know. I'm just... nervous." He said, a frown made it's way onto his lips.
"Darling!" Y/N's husband clambered into the room and placed a quick peck to her cheek. He turned to face Arthur. "How are doing? Are you excited?"
"Yes." Arthur faked a smile for the sake of his father.
"Oh gosh! Look at the time! We have to get going or we'll be late!" Said Y/N as she frantically collected her family's belongings.
-*-*-*-
"Dad, what if I am put into Slytherin?" Asked Arthur, about to board the train.
"Arthur Remus Potter. Slytherin isn't a bad house. In fact, it is quite extraordinary. Your mother was almost put in Slytherin for how determined and cunning she was! It would be an honor to have you be in Slytherin. Just as much of an honor as if you would be in Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw. We will love you no matter what."
Arthur hugged his father so tightly as tears leaked from his eyes. "I-I don't w-want to l-leave you, Dad. I don't want to leave Mum, either. Or Lily."
Harry pulled back and wiped the tears from his eyes. "I know. But, before you know it, you'll be back home and you'll be sick of us all over again." Harry laughed. He had to laugh. If he didn't, he would cry too.
Satisfied with that response, Arthur left his father's embrace and walked over to his mother, who was watching the whole time.
"I love you so much. I love you to the moon and back." She said, giving one last hug to her children before they boarded the train. They grow up too fast.
"I'll write every day." Said Arthur, waving from his compartment on the train.
"Write us when you get settled in! And be sure to tell what house you are in!" Shouted Harry. The train started to ride away. Harry looked at his children then to his wife. He was and will be forever grateful for the woman standing beside him, who gave him a family, who gave him so much.
And to think it all happened because of a damn doe.

Elyan makes Percival this but chainmail
Tumblr media
oh my-- 🤣🤣🤣
YES YES YES YOU ABSOLUTE WONDER OF A PERSON
this calls for a ficlet
When Percival returned from patrol, Elyan was sat cross-legged on their bed with a strange garment laid out in front of him across the sheets. Even from the door, Percival could see Elyan's smile flickering stronger than the surrounding candlelight and, infected, Percival felt a grin of his own tug at his lips.
'What have you done now?'
Elyan, still beaming, silently gestured to the bed. Loosening his armour as he walked, Percival strode towards the bed and tilted his head. Instinctively, his hand reached down and his fingertips caught the delicate links forming the chainmail -- Percival could see it was chainmail, nothing else danced like that in candlelight, except perhaps for Elyan's heartbeat -- before moving to Elyan's hands, which were covered in small burns.
'Did you make this?'
Elyan nodded, manipulating his fingers around Percival’s hand. 'I thought it might get Arthur off your back. And mine.'
Raising Elyan's hand briefly to his lips, Percival grinned again. 'Should I try it on?'
'Ideally.'
As Percival eased his current armour over his head, Elyan leaned back against the headboard, covering his mouth with his hand. He automatically moved closer to the other knight when the gambeson was exposed, reaching out towards him, but Percival gently covered the approaching hands with his own.
'I don’t think I need to be completely undressed, Elyan.'
Elyan withdrew. 'Pity.'
Shaking his head, Percival picked up the chainmail and dropped it over his head, struggling to find the corresponding holes for his arms. Without the visual aid of a massive gaping one on either side, it was incredibly difficult to identify any part of the chainmail that wasn't massive metal shroud. With a frown, Percival increased his force, stopping when Elyan found one arm and gripped it tightly.
'You're going to break it,' he gently said. 'Just--Take it slowly. Let me help you.'
'This is why I don't wear sleeves,' grumbled Percival, but allowing Elyan to guide his limbs through the folds in the chainmail all the same.
When he had aligned the garment with his body, Percival looked down at himself and burst into a fit of laughter, raising his arms. The sleeves seemed to exhale like a waterfall, shivering in the breeze that Percival created with his arms, and both Percival and Elyan watched in wonder as the delicate illumination from the candles was imprisoned in the strong threads of metal, the spectacle causing the light to drip down to the floor. Glancing towards Elyan, the smile on Percival’s face softened as he recognised the gentle curve of satisfaction along Elyan's lips.
Elyan, noticing the glance, looked up. 'I hadn't realised that they would be longer than me.'
'You realise that I will have to sleep in this because it will take too long to put on in the morning?'
'This is going to be an interesting night, then,' Elyan replied, biting back laughter.
*
Percival and Elyan, being the model knights they were, were usually early to Round Table meetings but the additional time alone had proved too much for Elyan, who was choking with laughter on the balcony when Gwaine and Lancelot walked in. Gwaine took one look at Percival, sat with his arms folded and his sleeves trailing along the surface of the table, and abandoned his conversation with Lancelot about Merlin's birthday to join Elyan in screaming from the balcony.
Fighting to keep a straight face, Lancelot took his seat and pointedly pushed the end of one sleeve closer to Percival. 'Looks like you've had some tricks up your sleeve.'
From the balcony came the distinct sound of wheezing and a sharp burst of laughter.
Percival responded with a severe nod. 'Yeah, this bad boy can fit so many weapons in it. The enemy is going to have the shock of their life.'
Staring at Percival for several seconds more, Lancelot bowed his head as tears gathered in his eyes and a grin spread across his face. Slowly, as the other knights filed in, he lowered his head until it was resting on the table, his entire body shaking. When Gwen entered with Leon, her eyes immediately jumped to Percival and her hand simultaneously jumped to her mouth. She stood frozen for several moments, before catching on to the renewed laughter coming from the balcony, and slipped through the door leading to the staircase. Unbeknownst to Percival, she never made it past the third step, sinking down on it and dissolving into smothered giggles with her face buried in her hands. Leon remained rooted to the spot, his mouth open.
Arthur, initially, was preoccupied with giving Merlin instructions and didn't pay much mind to the rest of the room until his eyes, having instinctively darted to the space that Gwen usually inhabited, discovered that several of his knights were missing. Then he walked straight into Leon, who still hadn't moved. About to tell Leon to move, Arthur became quietly aware that the echoing noises from above were not coming from crows, as he'd initially dismissed them as, but from said knights. It wasn't until Merlin nudged him that the Regent thought to look at Percival.
Percival, who was still slouched in his chair, arms folded, creating a tablecloth from the sleeves of his chainmail.
'What--What is that?' cried Arthur.
'You're the one who wanted me to wear sleeves,' responded Percival with a shrug.
Gwaine, howling by this point, fell over the side of the balcony, suspended by his belt as Elyan, who was still trying to catch his breath as he caught the accessory, tried to haul him up. As Merlin rushed to help them, he passed a crying Gwen who brushed him away with violent hiccups when he asked if she was alright.
Lancelot had slid from his chair and was in a shaking heap on the ground. Leon, moving from Arthur's path, turned on his heel and exited the room.
Arthur had half a mind to follow suit.
tysm for this, it's actually beautiful, and i don't know how you managed to find that picture but it is s t u n n i n g 💕💕

Enchanted
Happy Mercelot week my loves! Enjoy a Cinderella love at first sight au. Featuring Merlin in a pretty outfit and infatuated Lancelot!
@mercelotweek fill for "beauty"
——
Merlin looks down at the bit of fabric in his hands. He’s never tried to alter an object this way. He’d cut a bit of Camelot red from one of the cloaks Arthur had sent to be re-hemmed and was just… looking at it. It was washed, but still obviously worn, fraying in places, no matter how he’d tried to mend it. He hadn’t been particularly keen on the red, but it was the only thing he’d had on hand. He certainly wasn’t going to risk any of his own clothes for something that might not work.
Merlin had altered himself before, sure, but he’d gotten stuck that way as often as he’d done it. A mask couldn’t exactly drink a potion and return to it’s original form. So, he had to be very careful and meticulous when he crafted this spell.
The white of his party clothes was incredible, striking, really, compared to all the other clothes he’d ever worn. Cast offs, surely, but they were beautiful. Morgana or even Gwen might know if they were even still in style, but it was meant to be a bit of a lark, this party. Both for him and the other guests in attendance. The others would be in costumes fashioned from older clothing, or clothing made costume by masks. It was supposed to be fun, light hearted, this party, but here Merlin is, overthinking something as simple as a mask.
He murmurs a spell of his own creation and the scrap of fabric, crumpled and pinned to generally resemble a mask, became something gorgeous before his eyes. The fabric was thinner, almost like lace in weight, but stayed stiff in his hand like it had been over starched. The pins had become fine, metallic dots over the eye holes, and the ribbon he’d use to secure it was almost silk like.
It was beautiful, but Merlin could feel the tenuous nature of the spell. It wouldn’t last forever. It might not even last the night. He could feel the threads of magic holding it delicately in this shape, but ready to break apart at any moment.
Well, he’d just have to make his trip to the party short so he wouldn’t risk being found out. These things usually went so far into the night it became morning, but he’d probably have until midnight before the spell wore off and risked exposing him.
If anyone found out a Servant was mingling with these Nobles, he’d be in the stocks for a week. Maybe worse.
Guinevere, who is his dearest friend and closest confidant, has agreed to help him with his hair for tonight, so he sneaks off to Morgana’s rooms, the lady already down at the party, to get her help, mask already in place, just in case anyone should see him.
The palace feels different when he walks around in clothes that belong to a nobleman. The servants he passes bow respectfully, and it makes him uneasy. How can people stand this? He felt so terrible, watching people avert their eyes and how their heads like he or anyone else had any right to their humility.
In Morgana’s rooms, Gwen adjusts his coat and combs his hair back in a way he didn’t think would suit him, but he ends up liking. He tries once more to convince her to come with him, to just steal one of Morgana’s old dresses and wear a veil, but she’s convinced she’ll be found out, and isn’t willing to risk it.
Merlin has no such qualms, and has vowed to take her involvement with this little scheme to the grave. Or the stocks.
“You look wonderful,” She says when she finally lays her brush down. “You’ll be the belle of the ball.”
Merlin rolled his eyes, “Haha, Guinevere. I just want to see how the other half lives for a night. You’re sure you won’t come?”
And now she rolls her eyes. “The lady Morgan and I are much closer than you and Arthur. She’d notice me, even with a mask. Maybe the next one.”
He smiles softly at her. “Definitely the next one. Besides, you’ll still be there. You’ll just have to endure less of the idle dithering of nobles.”
She giggles, “Merlin, you can’t talk about them like that.”
“I can talk about them however I like dressed like this,” He tugged his collar a bit to show off and that set her off again. She covered her mouth to keep their presence hidden and swatted at him.
“Okay, you’ve made your point. Now go, before it’s over.”
“Love you,” he kissed her cheek and she returned the gesture.
“Please don’t get yourself killed.” Which was as good as an I love you too from Gwen.
“No promises. I did try to fight the prince my first day here.”
—-
Merlin takes a second glass of mead in less than half an hour from a passing try. He knows this will be a terrible idea, but he cannot, to save his own life, stand this lot while sober any longer.
Occasionally one of the nobles will smile and greet him, ask him who he is, but for the most part, people are interested in socializing with those they already know, and the few who approach him are obviously uninterested in him as much as they are interested in the connections he might be able to make them.
“I’m dying out here,” he murmurs to Gwen when she’s pauses briefly to grab another tray to pass around lady Morgana’s table.
“I’m so sorry. You poor dear.” She smirks and he smiles back at her.
“Your turn next.”
“Mhmm, after all the fun you’re having, I can’t wait.”
He laughed as she left and his spirits were lifted for the first time all night. He took a final sip of his mead and left it on a table, deciding to try his luck on the dance floor at the same moment that a set of deep brown eyes caught him from across the room.
“Caught” was not an exaggeration. The smoldering, desirous look in the eyes that looked like they might have been looking at him for a while held him like a man entranced. His breath caught in his throat as the man started to make his way toward him.
He was in chain mail, a knight in a cloak that was unmistakably Camelot red. It wasn’t unlike the cloak he’d cut his mask from.
At the reminder, Merlin focused briefly on his mask, whose transformed state was tenuous. It would last a while longer, maybe an hour, maybe longer.
The determined way the knight walked toward him, through the onlookers, partygoers and celebrators was almost overwhelming. No one tonight had looked so intently upon him. He wasn’t sure how to handle it.
His feet seemed to decide how to handle it for him. Thick dark hair that begged to be tugged at and a mouth made for kissing, it drew him in like so few things ever had. Even with the black mask obscuring his face, Merlin can tell he must be beautiful. The cut of his jaw is too perfect for him not to be.
Merlin is stunned by the time they meet, standing obnoxiously still in the middle of the dance floor. The knight bows to him, and while servants bowing to him had made him uncomfortable, this feels formal, and somehow honorable. He holds out his hand when the knight starts to stand, thinking they might shake, but instead Lancelot takes the offered hand and kisses the back of it, eyes trained on Merlin the entire time.
He is grateful for the cover of the mask, with the way that he can feel the blush forming high on his cheek. He wouldn’t want to embarrass himself in front of a knight.
“Hello, My Lord. I am Sir Lancelot.”
Lancelot. He’s heard Arthur speak of him, in passing. An excellent fighter, perhaps as good as the Prince himself. As he stands, Sir Lancelot smiles at him, and Merlin about melts as his stomach flutters and he stands tall, just about eye level with him.
“Hello, Sir Lancelot.” The words are breathier than he means to be, and if Lancelot notices, he gives no indication.
With the slightest bow he asks, “May I have this dance?”
Merlin had been about to dance on his own anyway. Only, Merlin’s never danced any of these formal noble dances, only remembers celebrations in Ealdor, and in the lower town. He isn’t sure of the steps, but Lancelot still hasn’t dropped his hand, and his mouth seems to speak with the same ungiven authority his feet had moved him with.
“Certainly.”
Lancelot takes Merlin’s other hand to place it on his shoulder, and takes Merlin at the waist. It’s what everyone else seems to be doing, and he’s grateful that Lancelot says nothing when they’re pulled so close their chests are nearly flush.
Lancelot starts to move, but Merlin can’t keep time, keeps stumbling over his feet, and Lancelot’s. “I’m afraid I’m not much of a dancer.” Merlin laughs, afraid Lancelot will simply leave, but the man’s returning smile tells another story.
“That’s alright. Just stop thinking so hard about it. I’ll lead.” He pauses briefly to adjust his grip on Merlin’s waist and then Merlin feels the gentle push of the hand there, urging him to move back, forth, left, right, turn, in time with the music. Between Lancelot’s easy leading, and the way his eyes seem to never leave Merlin’s, it’s easy to feel like they are the only two people here, the only ones that matter.
Merlin finds the rhythm eventually, and the gentle coaxing on his hip becomes obsolete. He still misses the feel of Lancelot’s hand in his when they’re suddenly unclasped and grabbing Merlin by the waist, to spin him around with the flourish as the dance came to an end. He laughs, and the answering twinkle in Lancelot’s eyes speaks volumes for how he’s enjoyed himself.
“That wasn’t so bad, was it?” Lancelot asked, and Merlin smiles, letting the knight take his hand and kiss it again.
“I’d say it was the best dance I’ve ever had. Thank you, Sir Lancelot.”
“I aim to please.” Another song started up, and Lancelot raised an eyebrow. “I’m afraid this one is a group dance. Unless you fancy a half dozen partners and more steps than you can count, we might sit this one out.”
Merlin laughed, “I certainly don’t want that. Get a drink with me?” Merlin doesn’t need another drink, but he is parched.
When Lancelot offers his elbow to Merlin, he almost rolls his eyes, but can’t help the grin it illicits. “Such a gentleman.” He smiles, and Lancelot returns it. They take a seat at a nearby table, long since unoccupied in favor of the dancing.
Lancelot serves him mead before a servant can, highly unusual for a knight, as Merlin is well aware. “Thank you,” he waits for Lancelot to serve his own glass and clinks them together before taking a healthy sip from his. The warmth of the joy of Lancelot and the mead mix together, leaving him feeling heady and relaxed.
“I’m afraid I don’t know your name. Is that terrible?” Lancelot asked, and Merlin laughed in response.
“Few would. I’m hardly a common attendee of these sorts of things. I’m Emerys of Ealdor.”
“Such a beautiful name, for a beautiful man,” Lancelot gestured for a servant to bring the tray they were holding, and thanked him graciously as he served both Merlin and himself honey cakes. “I’m afraid I’ve never heard of Ealdor. Is it far from here?”
“Yes. I don’t see it much, anymore. It’s in Essetir, and it is not exactly safe to pass between the two lands. I haven’t been home in many years.”
Lancelot frowned. “I’m sorry to hear that. I too can not return home. I know how lonely that can be.”
Merlin smiled sadly. “Yes. But I do make friends wherever I go, and that helps.”
“I hope perhaps I may one day be counted among them?” Lancelot raies and eyebrow and Merlin’s besotted.
“Easily. So you do not come from Camelot?”
“No. I was a wonderer for a long time, learning sword craft to become a knight of Camelot, one of the noblest lands I know of.”
“One of?” Merlin asked, and he’s honestly curious. He’s used to the way the knights talk about Camelot, like it is perfect, the most wonderful place to live with the most impressive king.
“The King is very noble. He has a heart for the people not all Kings can boast.”
“But?” Merlin pushes, and Lancelot smiles uneasily.
“But not all of the people of Camelot belong in the King’s heart. It is not always my desire to carry out the laws against magic users, if they’ve done no wrong. But I am always loyal to my king.” He took a sip of his mead, pulling gently on the collar of his shirt.
Merlin didn’t know what it felt like to fall in love, but he thought perhaps this might be it. Like falling and being overwhelmed, and wanting nothing more to steal away with someone who appeared perfect in every way.
“I must say I agree.” He said, and Lancelot visibly relaxed. “But like you, I have no ill will toward the King. He does what he believes to be right, and that is all any man can be asked to do.” And perhaps one day he would see that he was not right. Merlin could only hope.
“Yes. Will you be in Camelot long, after the festival?” The question is so obviously probing that Merlin feels a bit of glee at it, even as his heart sinks, because he can’t have this man. Lancelot is a knight of Camelot, and Merlin is a servant.
“I’m afraid not. I leave tonight,” Merlin smiled wanly, and Lancelot’s face mirrors him.
“There’s no possibility of your plans being changed?”
“No. I’m expected somewhere tomorrow. We’ll have to ride through the night to get there.” This is the first true lie Merlin has told all night, and it aches to say. Lancelot cares for magic users, and he’s kind, and he didn’t ask Merlin what connections he had or how he might be helpful to him. He just wanted to have a dance and talk.
He looks away and meets Gwen’s eyes, somewhere over Lancelot’s shoulders. She looks so sad, and he knows he must look the same.
“When might you be back? In Camelot, I mean?”
“I can’t say. It’s only coincidence that brought me here tonight.” This at least, is true. Merlin never could’ve come to this party if not for Gwen coincidentally finding the discarded clothing in the closer of a long disgraced nobleman. The fact that they happened to fit Merlin was also happenstance, and if not for that, he’d never be here. With an hour of Gwen’s help, she’d been able to tailor them nearly to perfect, and he was loathe to admit he looked quite good.
“That is a shame. We must enjoy tonight then.”
“Yes, we must.”
The song changed and Merlin took as delicate a bite as he could manage of his honey cake before taking Lancelot’s hand. “Teach me to dance some more, you’re fantastic at it.”
This brought a smile to Lancelot’s face. “It would be an honor, my lord.”
They take to the dance floor. This dance, whatever it is, is far more complicated than the last one, and Lancelot also stumbles through it occasionally, which makes Merlin feel just a bit better.
“We’ve nearly got it!” Merlin laughed when the music ended, and Lancelot bowed to him again. Merlin is about to ask him for another one when a tall figure suddenly approaches them.
“Mind if I cut in?” Says another knight of Camelot, this one completely disregarding the dresscode and lacking a mask. His long hair came to his shoulder and Merlin would’ve found him incredibly attractive if it weren’t for the fact Lancelot was already the center of his night.
Merlin bows goodbye to Lancelot, thinking this knight has come for his equal, he certainly wouldn’t be the only knight to do so, but then he sees the hard edge of Lancelot’s eyes and is a bit confused.
“My Lord.” The new knight says, and takes Merlin’s hand, sweeping him away from Lancelot without waiting for so much as a “by your leave.”
“I’m Sir Gwaine. You’re a pretty thing,” the knight says, and Merlin doesn’t find this compliment as positive as Lancelot’s.
“I’m sorry if I have no desire to be called an object.” He said stiffly, and Gwaine laughed.
“You’ve got nerve. Lancelot must like that.” Merlin was swept up and turned, his hands barley having time to grip Gwaine’s shoulders and stabilize himself as he was lifted into the air. “I’m sorry to intrude. Sir Lancelot is one of my dearest friends, and a bit of teasing always does him good. Can you see him?” He leaned in to whisper these last words in his ear and Merlin’s eyes start searching the floor for Lancelot.
He’s not on the dance floor, but is watching them with a deep intensity from the spot where they’d sat and ate the song before. “You’ve upset him.”
“Well, you didn’t have to accept.” The man smiled, and Merlin scowled.
“I thought you were asking for Lancelot, not me. Besides, you didn’t give me time to either accept or deny. Just carried me off like some sort of brute.”
“My apologies.” But nothing about his tone seemed apologetic. “However, when Lancelot gets his hands back on you, I think you might just thank me for my little intervention.”
Merlin’s barely following along with whatever steps, but he’s starting to fume. “What is this? Some sort of joke? Do you find that appropriate?”
“I meant no harm,” He smiled, “I swear.” They turned and for a second his eyes focused over Merlin’s shoulder and he grimaced. “But I’m afraid I may have gone too far. I’m going to get it in training tomorrow.” He focused on Merlin again to grin. “But I’m sure I’ll be able to handle it.” The song ended and Merlin just barely put up with a peck on his hand. Before he can pull away, Gwaine holds his hand tight, and Merlin freezes. “Lancelot hasn’t looked this happy for a very long time. I hope you don’t mean to dash his heart.”
Merlin is shocked at the insinuation. “I’ve only just met him. There are no hearts involved.”
“Mmm, you haven’t known Lancelot as long as I have. I assure you, there are.” He made Merlin take his arm and lead him back to the table where Lancelot was sitting. There was a blond knight standing beside him now, leaning in and murmuring something in his ear. “He falls so quick it’s a marvel he’s ever on his feet. But he’s loyal. I wouldn’t want him to get the wrong idea if you mean to disappear.”
“What do you mean?” Merlin asked, stiffening, and Gwaine shrugged.
“I’ve never seen you before. Neither has anyone else I’ve asked. You’re passing through. Who’s to say how you got an invitation, but you’re not likely to return if you’re making no move to introduce yourself to everyone here. I’ve been a wanderer, I know the signs of someone who only intends to stay one night. If you’ve no intention to stay, I wish you’d leave him be.”
“It’s complicated,” Merlin said voice still tense.
“Everything is. My word stands.” They arrive at the table and Lancelot stands, pulling out Merlin’s chair for him, glaring at Gwaine.
“I’m sorry, I’m afraid I couldn’t get enough of our new friend. But he’s all yours now, Lancelot.”
Merlin takes a seat and is relieved for Gwaine to go. Lancelot looks him over like he’s afraid he might’ve been mauled. “Are you alright? I know Gwaine tends to be a bit… forward.”
Merlin laughed, a bit uncomfortable now after what Gwaine’d said. “I’m alright. He wasn’t too forward. Just a bit blunt.”
“Yes, he’s like that.” Merlin followed Lancelot’s gaze to Gwaine, and hoped that Lancelot did beat Gwaine on the training field tomorrow.
The honey cake he’d left is still there, and so he takes another bite. Things like this were so rarely afforded to him he had to force himself not to scarf it down. The cake was soft and crumbled easily in his mouth, giving way to a sweet, delicate flavor. The soft sigh of pleasure from the taste of it all drew Lancelot’s gaze briefly to his lips, and Merlin felt his face heat. “I don’t usually indulge.” He said, as way of explanation, and Lancelot smiled.
“I’m glad you’ve given yourself the pleasure tonight. Camelot’s kitchens are famous.”
“I can see why.” He says, taking another bite of the delicious cake.
“Perhaps they might entice you back.” Lancelot says with a hopeful look, and Merlin swallows.
“Perhaps.” He’s starting to think that maybe this is no good anymore. He’s playing with this man’s heart, pretending to be someone he is not. As much fun as this is, and much as he’s possibly developing a crushing love for Lancelot, this is wrong. They could never be, simply by the virtue of Merlin’s station.
A clock, somewhere far off, strikes and he jumpsin his seat. He checks the magic holding his mask and finds it worryingly close to breaking. He can’t let his face be seen here.
Luckily, he has a readymade excuse.
“Hell.” He murmurs, putting down the cake and being careful to use the napkin to clean his fingers. Had to keep up this act of nobility, no matter how much he’d rather lick the crumbs from his fingers. “I have to go.” He drops the napkin down and pushes his chair back, throwing Lancelot an apologetic look that is more genuine that Merlin meant it to be.
“What? It’s only midnight. Please.” He takes Merlin’s hand as he stands, stopping him from going any further.
“I have to go. My carriage will be waiting. I was suppose to be there ten minutes ago.” Merlin tugs on his hand, but Lancelot holds it, doesn’t let it go.
“Please, I can’t- It’s too soon.” His pleading hurts Merlin, but now that his anxiety has taken over, he knows it’s just a matter of time before the mask becomes a scrap of cloth and falls from his face.
“I’m sorry. I have to go.” He pulls his hand out of Lancelot’s and rushes as much as he dares to the door.
Sir Gwaine blocks his path just as he gets to the door. “Leaving so soon? Can’t I tempt you for another dance?” Merlin can’t read his face, is too worried to even think about trying.
When he looks behind him and sees Lancelot coming for them, he starts to truly panic. He can’t afford a delay.
He turns his face away from Gwaine and mutters a spell to drop a nearby server’s tray. This distracts Gwaine just long enough for Merlin to slip past him and out of the great hall.
He can hear Lancelot coming, calling after him, but he dare not look back. He mutters a second spell to slam the ballroom doors. This will serve both to slow Lancelot’s progress and hide which way Merlin goes goes.
And considering he’s going deeper into, rather than out of, the castle, it’s very important no one sees his retreat.
He slips through the halls, hearing Lancelot’s cries echo and then disappear as he goes toward the castle door, looking for him.
He’ll never find him.
Merlin swipes uselessly at his prickling eyes. He hadn’t wanted to leave Lancelot, but after what Gwaine had said, he couldn’t stay in good conscience. He swallowed hard to try and keep himself collected, and finally ducked into Gaius’ rooms, gracefully empty.
As soon as the door was closed he felt his magic break and the mask become a scrap of fabric. Camelot-red fell into his lap, and he stared at it, thinking of what might have been, and let himself cry.

OMG thank yooou, i love Jily so much, and i love write them alive!
i hope you liked <3
-----------
It was early August when the Potter decided that they needed to take a vacation, James claimed that it had been so busy years and that they almost never took advantage of the Boat he bought almost five years ago, when he started to take an interest in the subject and see various programs who were dedicated to naval practice
"Does your dad really think he can do it?" Ginny asked as soon as she finished closing her bags, smiling at Harry lying on her bed, sprawled as he waited, arms crossed behind his head and following her with his eyes
''He found a pilot. After my mother convinced him, of course, that he would hardly know how to fly a boat just by watching TV shows''
The two had been dating for a while, since the end of Harry's fifth year, and Ginny had been practically adopted by the Potter family, who included her in absolutely every outing, dinner and any celebration.
Lily and she spent hours talking in the greenhouses, sometimes the mother-in-law said about how the studies she had been doing had been improving and giving results, and that it would not be long before the patients who  wounds caused by curses, finally healed. Sometimes they just talked about trivial things, like the gift Harry had bought her, or some gossip they heard.
James was also a big fan, Ginny suspected even more than Harry, hers. They flew and played almost every vacation, and the father-in-law made sure to include her in everything related to Quidditch, always reminding her how good Ginny was.
"Even more than I was, and I was considered one of the best of that time"
So traveling with the Potter was not something new, but traveling with them in the same week that might or might not arrive at the letter that would tell she about the final decision on her contract with the Harpies was too much.
''You'll be accepted, I don't know why you're so nervous'' The two of them had just stepped into the Mansion - even though Harry insisted it wasn't one - and Ginny could barely count the anxiety that was eating at her bones, rhythmically tapping her fingers against the thigh and trembling feet when sitting
''Because everything can go wrong. If they think not ...''
''..They liked you'' Harry stated, squeezing her shoulders and forcing her to stop ''Everything will be fine''
Then, the four embarked for the trip to the port, Lily drove spectacularly well, laughing and having fun with the songs that played on the radio, pretending not to notice how restless her daughter-in-law was, who spent more time looking out the window than playing along with James.
''I think all of this will be good .. We need time out of communication. Of course owls can still find us, but only the most important matters'' Lily smiled in the rearview mirror, winking at the redhead in the back seat.
As soon as they arrived on the boat - named Euphemia, in honor of James' late mother - Ginny thought she would throw up right there, before they started moving through the calm, clean waters. The fear of being rejected and not being able to join any team, made her lose sleep and become more and more anxious, which made Harry worried and spent the nights by her side, talking and telling stories that she had already heard but who asked again just to distract her mind and laugh at  boyfriend.
When they started the real boat trip, she felt calmer.
The island they were going to stay on was wonderful, with clear, calm waters, and a sun that made Ginny have to wear sunscreen every hour. But it was totally worth it.
The boat ride was also magnificent, with all that wind in her face, the feeling of freedom and happiness that made her forget the tests she had done six months ago, and the most beautiful landscape she had ever seen in her life.
''I said, Lils, buying that boat was the best way to invest the money '' James said as they prepared to jump into the water, with Muggle equipment needed so they could dive deeper and deeper into the water kingdom who lived there (the pilot would never let them jump with only they bathing suits on, and Lily forbade them to bewitch the poor boy so they could use magic)
"Do you feel better?" Harry asked her as soon as they sat down to lunch, the sun at the top of the sky and the birds singing everywhere; the table was full of light, delicious foods that would not make them throw up as soon as the boat started up again, and Ginny almost moaned when she tasted the salad that Lily made with mango and pineapple.
"Yep’’ And it was true.
[...]
On Sunday morning, Ginny almost jumped out of bed when an owl hit her and Harry's bedroom window. The boyfriend was still sleeping peacefully, too tired from the past few days, much more tan than he had a week ago, and looking even more handsome. Already she had a beautiful burnt shoulders, in addition to the red cheeks that her boyfriend said made she look like a cute child.
“Mrs. Wealey.
It is with great pleasure that we inform you that Holyhead Harpies is honored to announce that Ginevra Molly Weasley, 18, is officially part of the team, and that, if she agrees, the new member should pass by the Human Relations office without fail for effect the hiring until Tuesday, 08 of 1999 ...... ''
They accepted her
''Gin?''
''I came in'' She was still gaping at the letter ''I came in Harry'' And then her realized, dropping the long letter with all the rules and terms, she started jumping with joy, smiling from ear to ear '’I was accepetd’’
After the celebrations with Harry, which were based on many congratulations from him, and sex, the two left the room. The in-laws were in the kitchen, James seasoning the fish they had caught the night before, while Lily prepared a dessert pie. Ginny had always thought that the fact that her boyfriend was an incurable romantic came from having parents like that.
Molly and Arthur were in love with each other, there was no doubt, but Ginny always admired the way James treated Lily, always zealous, making sure she had everything she needed around her, paying attention whenever she started talking, as if Lily was the only person in the world.
''Urgh, you guys give me a toothache'' Harry kissed his mother's head as soon as she noticed them both, smearing his finger with stuffing and licking it, and running when Lily tried to hit him with a wet towel for touching the food
''How are you? I saw that an owl arrived earlier today ... any problem?'' James asked, without looking at any of them, focusing on the knife he used to clean the animal in front of him
''A letter from the Harpies arrived'' And as if Ginny said she had won the lottery, her in-laws turned to look at her, eyes wide.
''And ...?'' James looked more anxious than Harry, when she told him that she had entered
''You are talking to the newest player, reserve, from the Holyhead Harpies team'' She could barely contain her smile, almost jumping with joy again. Saying it out loud made everything more and more real.
''Oh Merlin! Ginny this is amazing!'' Before Lily arrived at the daughter-in-law, James ran over her, passing in front and hugging the girl with all enthusiasm
''I knew you could do it, I knew it! I told Sirius, you play so well! Jones would be being blind if she didn't accept you on the team. Oh dear, have you told your parents yet? Harry, we need to have a party when we get back! We will all wear green, in her honor'' He spoke without stopping, looking at her with happiness ''Now I will have to cheer for the Harpies, I cannot be against my daughter-in-law'' Ginny knew she was red, but it was impossible to try to hide enthusiasm when James was like that ''I knew, since Harry told us that you had learned to fly alone, I said that you would still play professionally ... Oh Merlin, we need to celebrate''
''James dear, don't choke her'' Lily pushed her husband away, and Ginny could see that she and Harry were laughing, looking amused by the moment ''I'm so happy, I saw you were nervous earlier, but I didn't want to meddle ... You will look so beautiful in green''
After the hugs, James decided that they shouldn't spend time cooking, and that he certainly wasn't seasoning that fish properly, so they went out to eat, in a restaurant not far away.
''Your father looks happier than me'' She whispered to her boyfriend when they got home and saw that, somehow, they had ordered a cake decorated in Harpy colors and with her name on top
''He loves you a lot more than he loves me .. You had to see it when I told him I asked you to date''
''I think he'll fall back when we have a son'' Harry laughed, kissing her head and nodding
''You know, you're the daughter he never had ... I don't doubt that he would trade me for you. For free'' James came back from the kitchen, Lily and him seeming to discuss what the best drink for the celebration, if wine, beer or Champagne
"To Ginny! The future star of the Holyhead Harpies'' They toasted - each with a chosen drink.
And Ginny was happy that, on that rainy afternoon in her fourth year, she was in detention with Harry. Because she would certainly never find a second family better than that.

When Will I See You Again? [RBW]
Tumblr media
Ron’s favorite summer is the summer he met you.
Pairing: Ron Weasley x Fem!Reader
Warnings: none–it’s absolute, pure, unadulterated fluff.
Word Count: ~5.3k
A/N: finally a fic that isnt harry hsfhasdfa i plan to make this multiple parts but let me know if u guys wud like that aaa i hope u enjoy! <3
“Fred, you are a right foul git!” cursed Ron as he chased after the twin.
“Ron’s in love!” Fred bellowed as he held a crumpled photograph in his hand. Before Ron carelessly pounced on Fred, the twin passed the photograph to the other half of his whole, George.
George uncrumpled the photograph to take a good look at it, “In love is Ron!” George recrumpled the photograph into a ball and threw it back at Fred, making Ron the monkey in the middle.
Ron jumped and jumped, unable to catch the crumpled polaroid as his brothers threw it around. Fred made the mistake of passing it to Ginny, who was caught off-guard, allowing Ron to snatch it from her hands.
“Now, look at it! It’s unsalvageable!” Ron exclaimed at the polaroid. There was a fold right across the center, discoloring that part of the photograph.
“Are you not a wizard, little brother?” Said Fred.
Ron was, of course, just not adept or knowledgeable enough to fix the muggle object.
“Does it look like I’d know a spell to fix this? This is the only thing I have to remember her by!” Ron bellowed in anger. Fred and George merely snickered at him.
“You make very funny faces.” George said to him, mimicking the last conversation Ron had with you.
The teasing started the first day the Weasleys decided to take a muggle-led tour of the famed pyramids in Egypt at Arthur’s request (demand, actually). The family tried very hard to fit into the muggle-led tour group, which to their credit, they did quite well. Arthur kept his little quips at bay–with much help from Molly and Bill. Percy droned on about his guesses for Head Boy (guesses, meaning reasons as to why he was most deserving of the role) to anyone family member within earshot. Fred and George were accompanied by Charlie, who was better accustomed to muggles due to his time in Romania. Ginny quietly observed her family. While Ron, who was holding Scabbers in his right hand and a handful of wizard sweets in his left, did not notice his untied shoelaces because he tripped over them and took a muggle girl down in the process. It was a scene out of a muggle romantic comedy–13-year-old Ron swore he fell in love the moment he and your eyes met. Scabbers scattered out of his hand at the moment of impact and as he stood up, he offered her his sticky and crumby left hand. You didn’t seem to mind, as you dusted yourself, and thanked Ron for his help. Of course, Fred and George were the primary witnesses of Ron’s unfortunate incident, as they had temporarily escaped Charlie’s watchful eye.
The second day of the muggle-led tour of the pyramids, he saw you again. He tried to steer clear of Fred and George, but he could only do much in the small space in the pyramids. Luckily, Fred and George were on a mission to seal Percy in a mummy tomb and Charlie merely watched, as he was quite amused at the whole scene. As Fred and George shoved Percy into an unknown Pharaoh’s room. Ron took this chance to talk to you as he spotted you at the front of the tour group. He looked left and right, making sure his family did not notice him and he walked to you.
“Hullo,” Ron started. You didn’t notice him, as you were transfixed on the Egyptian tombs.
Ron cleared his throat in an attempt to catch her attention and he repeated, “Hullo.”
You finally turned to him, “‘Hello,”
Oh merlin, she’s French, Ron thought, as the sound of your accent sounded like harps and the gates of heaven themselves opening. He kept himself grounded as he reminded himself that you were essentially a muggle-girl who could not understand wizard things and should he slip, it’ll be only his mother’s voice he’d have to hear.
“Er–hullo, I want to apologize, for tripping you yesterday in King Tut’s tomb yesterday.”
“Oh! There is no–what is the word–problem, thank you again–er–for, for, helping me up.” You said, fishing for the translations of the French words you knew.
By Merlin’s left tit, Ron swore up and down he was already in love with her. Her hair was shiny and soft, her eyes glittering, and lips so full. It was hard to concentrate, it was almost as though he were in a trance.
“Is it your first time in Egypt?” Ron continued. Fred and George emerged from the tomb of the unknown pharaoh, unsuccessful in their plight to banish Percy. They did not meddle with Ron’s feeble attempt at female interaction, but instead sniggered at the sight of it.
Ron himself was quite taken aback with his behavior, as he was talking to a girl–a member of the opposite sex, someone who was not his mother or his sister or Hermione. You were a pretty girl too, and this all the more heightened his nerves. Ron was exercising so much control over his words so as not to spill the secrets of the wizarding world to a 13-year-old girl that his head was spinning. The polite conversation was riddled with small talk, the normal exchanging of basic information such as names, ages, and where  you were from.
Arthur spotted Ron, eyes wide. His son, his very immature & unaccustomed-to-muggles son (relative to himself, of course), was conversing with a muggle, all while his damned broken wand was poking out of his pocket. Arthur rushed to Ron’s side, and Ron hadn’t seemed to notice–too busy ogling you. Arthur put an arm around Ron, effectively startling him.
“Good day! Might I borrow my son for a minute?” He says to you. You nod and watch Ron as he gets whisked away by his father.
Arthur didn’t know whether to scold him or egg him on–it was a muggle he was talking to! Everything he’d want to know about muggles from the perspective of a 13-year-old girl right there. Then Arthur imagined the scolding he’d get from Molly if he chose the former. So, he lectured Ron on the dangers of revealing the secrets of the wizarding world to a muggle, citing an incident he’d had recently at work when a Muggle walked in on he and his fellow co-workers during a raid.
“The obliviate charm, though quite useful, was a nasty thing to inflict onto somebody and I wouldn’t want  to do that to her.” Arthur told Ron. Ron didn’t care to listen to his father and began to imagine your face on his father’s to make the lecture more bearable. Arthur kept Ron glued to his hip the rest of the tour for the day until they made it back to Bill’s flat.
The third day was the most eventful yet, as the tour group finally had their last group lunch at an authentic Egyptian muggle restaurant. Ron took this as his last opportunity to interact with his muggle-tour-group crush and indiscreetly took a seat next to you. Unfortunately for Ron, Fred and George decided upon the seats across him and you. Ron tried so hard to talk to you, he really did, but he was worse off than yesterday. He was skidding over his words like a car whose tires popped and the steel was grinding itself across the road. Fred and George didn’t even hide the fact they were making fun of him, making kissy noises and drawing hearts in the air with their fingers. It was a miracle you ignored them, and even more of a miracle you paid attention to Ron. Your mother saw the sight and took out her polaroid camera.
“[Y/N], [Y/N]! Look at me, my love!” Your mom said as she clicked the camera, film printing from the slot. She shook it to make it develop faster. The picture was ghastly–your eyes were half-closed with a forkful of spaghetti in your mouth and Ron’s face was contorted into a cross between a sneeze and anger.
“How about another one, for good measure? Yes?” Your mother proposed. You shyly inched closer to Ron, and you swear you hear him gulp. You smile and Ron partly does the same (he was never really quite good at modulating his expressions, so now instead of a cross between a sneeze and anger, it was now fear pretending to be happy).
Your mother hands you both pictures after they’ve fully developed, and you give Ron the second one.
“I like how silly we look here,” You reasoned to him, beaming. Ron was going to explode.
“Oh yes, me too.” He replied, shaking his polaroid of the two of you to get it to move, forgetting for a moment it came from a muggle camera. You chuckle at him.
“You make very funny faces, it’s, uh, very amusing.” You mused. Ron turned red to his ears.
“You should’ve seen the faces I made when I threw up slugs!” Ron laughed, then his face straightened to a stony expression.
“Slugs?” You asked. At this point Ron was panicking and he sent a side-eye to Fred & George, who were laughing even harder than before.
“Candied slugs,” Ron managed to say quickly
“Candied slugs?” You repeated, “That sounds so, er, awful! Disgusting, yes? Why would you eat such an ‘orrible thing?”
Ron was pink to the ears.
“Well, er, candied slugs….are a delicacy?” Ron could not help but sound confused with the lie he was making up. You furrowed your brows.
“In England?” You ask.
“Only up north?” He asks with a very highlighted question mark.
“Up north?” You couldn’t wrap your head around it, who the hell ate candied slugs in England?
“It’s quite rare, might I add. Only a few mugg–” Ron stopped himself again, “people, I mean make them.”
“Really, uh, candied slugs?”
“Yes. Blimey, the feeling you when they go back up your throat!” Ron laughed, trying to keep his cool. “Well, what do you have in France? I reckon it's much better than slugs.”
You tell him about the wonders of French culture, especially about food. Ron tries very hard to ask the questions, and you answer them. Lunch ends, signalling the end of the tour. All the members of the tour group finish their food, pay their share of the bills–Arthur took his time with muggle Egyptian money as he’d never see any other muggle currency aside from the British pound. When all was said and done, everyone stood up and went their separate ways. You stood, and so did Ron.
Turning to him, you say,“It was, uh, nice to have someone my age ‘ere.” You were compelled to hug him, and you do. Ron was flushed, flustered, redder than his family’s signature red hair. His face looked like hues of red at a paint shop. Ron didn’t hug back due to shock, but you paid it no mind. You left as your mother called you to her, you skipped towards her happy to have made a friend in your time in Egypt. Ron stood there, almost in a petrificus-totalus-like state, staring at you as you walked away from him. Fred and George laughed at Ron incessantly. They made fun of him the whole walk back to Bill’s flat. Ron knew that he’d never see you again, but he resigned to replaying the last conversation you and he had.
Ron’s remaining time in Egypt saw him thinking about you endlessly, it was the most teenageric thing he’d done thus far. The rest of the weeks were spent doing usual Weasley family activities, far away from muggles now, much to Arthur’s dismay. Bill gave them tours of the tombs he’d broken curses at and the satellite Gringotts office. The vacation ended and the Weasleys were well on their way back home with Ron still thinking about you all the way to Burrow.
At the Leaky Cauldron, he told Hermione and Harry what he could about you. Harry was quite supportive of the whole escapade, while Hermione rolled her eyes and told him off as you were probably just being nice. The initial crush faded as the year progressed, but Ron still thought about you from time to time, wondering if you were enjoying home and if he’d ever run into you should he find himself in muggle France. He’d find you being the topic of conversation when he was alone with Harry–to avoid an earful from Hermione–on days where there would be nothing to talk about. He’d run through hypothetical situations and ask Harry how he should act around a muggle to not scare them off.
His last conversation with you would occasionally creep up in his mind before he’d go to bed at Gryffindor tower, smiling at the thought of it.
“Some girls really are something else,” Ron would think before drifting off to sleep, the crumpled polaroid hidden in his sock drawer.
___
Year 3 at Hogwarts came and passed, Ron made it through in one piece, now without a pesky Scabbers by his side as it was revealed to have been Peter Pettigrew. He now had longer hair, more defined features, and grew a few inches taller. Summer was eventful to say the least with his family and his two best friends going to the Quidditch world cup and it being attacked by Death Eaters. He still thought about you from time to time in passing but not as obsessively as in the 3rd year. Yours and his interaction became an anecdote–the time Ron finally talked to a girl who wasn’t family or Hermione and almost slipped the secrets of the wizarding world to. Fred and George would not let him forget.
“...This year, Hogwarts will play host to a legendary event: the Triwizard Tournament. During which time a single student gets to represent his or her school in a series of magical contests. Eternal glory awaits the student who wins the tournament.” Bellowed Dumbledore from his stand at the front of the hall. Ron was too busy working at his chicken pot pie, but picked up keywords from Dumbledore’s speech in between bites–Triwizard tournament, eternal glory. Dumbledore’s speech was interrupted by a frantic Filch running through the aisle of the Great Hall, clutching Mrs. Norris in his hands. He whispered a few words to Dumbledore, and Dumbledore continued. Ron had moved on from his chicken pot pie to the mashed potatoes drowning in the signature Hogwarts gravy.
“...For now, please join me in welcoming the lovely ladies of the Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, and their headmistress Madame Maxime!” At once, the doors of the Great Hall burst open, giving sight to the students of Beauxbatons.
Ron’s head was still down as he was basically breathing in the mashed potatoes, even though he knew that there would be plenty of mashed potatoes to go around. Seamus, sat to his left, accidentally nudged him thinking he was Dean, causing Ron to look up. Ron’s eyes immediately darted to the Beauxbatons girls who made quite an entrance with butterflies erupting from their sides. Ron was ogling them, now ignoring the mashed potatoes in front of him, his chin resting on his hand. He stared at them all, darting from girl to girl, focusing on them a few seconds each. His eyes moved down the line of girls, until he reached the last student–you.
Ron froze, not out of fear, but out of utter shock. It was you, in the flesh–the muggle girl he had tripped in King Tut’s tomb a year prior to now. Of course now, he realized you were not a muggle, but a wizard like him. You were still gracefully dancing around as rehearsed, your arms extending and flexing forward like a ballerina. Ron was still staring at you.
Hermione snapped her fingers at his face, “Excuse me! Women aren’t objects!”
“It’s her.” Ron simply stated. Hermione looked at Harry from across the table in confusion.
“Who?” Harry asked.
“D’you remember the muggle girl I kept talking about last year? She isn’t a muggle, she’s literally right there, in the flesh, prancing around, butterflies shooting out of her sides! Blimey, she’s a witch!” Ron exclaimed.
His two friends turned their heads to the front of the Great Hall, where you were bowing down. You and your fellow classmates separated among the four tables in the Great Hall, with you to the Gryffindor table. Ron was watching you the whole time until you sat at the table, only a few students away from him.
Harry was in disbelief, unwilling to believe Ron, “Merlin, Ron, are you sure?”
Fred and George noticed Ron’s awestruck face and shifted around a few fellow Gryffindors to get to their little brother.
“Georgie, it seems as though Ron has his eye on a certain French lady,” Fred starts. The twins follow Ron’s line of sight, landing on you.
“Blimey, Freddie, she looks familiar does she not?” George notices.
Fred squints, “Good god, isn’t that girl you couldn’t,”
George continues, “Wouldn’t”
Fred says, “Stop talking about?”
George connects, “Every hour,”
“Of every day, last summer to now?” finishes Fred, finally. Fred and George turn to each other in amazement, wondering how they’ll be spending the next year torturing Ron.
“Why don’t you go up to her and offer her some candied slugs then, little brother? It’s a delicacy in Northern England! Up north, yes!” George says mimicking 13-year-old Ron’s voice.
“Shove off, George,” Ron mutters as he brings his attention back down to his mashed potatoes, trying to calm himself down. He was picking at the plate with his spoon, tossing around the meal carelessly.
You were enjoying a classic Hogwarts meal of baked chicken and potatoes, while a first-year sat beside you making chit-chat. The student knew just as much as you did about Hogwarts, but you hung onto every word. A girl in front of you at you and back down at her plate. You caught her eye and you both smiled.
“‘Ello,” You say to her. She seemed to have gone as red as her hair.
“Hello,” She replied to you shyly.
“My name is [Y/N],” You say smiling at her.
The girl paused and smiled back, “I’m Ginny.”
A pause ensues.
“Sorry for, er, staring, you just seem so familiar,” Ginny says to you.
“Oh? Sorry, I do not remember you,” You say remorsefully. “It is my first time here at Hogwarts, I’ve never met anyone from here.” “It’s in the face is all,” Ginny smiles at you, before returning to her food. The Durmsrang fellows finished their introduction into the Great Hall, breathing fire and finding their places at different Hogwarts tables. A bulky Durmstrang boy finds a spot next to you, and you both exchange niceties and finish your meals.
Ron finally clears his plate of the mashed potatoes. Fred and George were recounting the events in Egypt to Lee, who was now laughing at Ron as well. Hermione finished her meal and got up, beckoning Ron to go with them, as they had classes the next day. Harry, however, was looking at Ron and back at you, shooting a look at him–like he was egging him on. Ron instead decides to get up to go back to the common rooms, and Harry, a little disappointed, follows.
The hall of students seem to finish their meals the same time as you, as one by one they leave their seats. Your fellow Beauxbaton classmates leave their seats as well, as Madame Maxime gave full permission to explore the grounds and fraternize with other Hogwarts students, so as long as they return to her by a certain period. Ginny gets up in front of you to join her other friends, and you contemplate on your next move. You get up from your table and saunter towards her.
“Uh, Ginny, yes?” You ask her, as she spins around to meet you.
“Yes, [Y/N]?” she responds neutrally.
“I would just like to say–ask, I think is a better word–if we could be friends? I know not much about Hogwarts or anything, really,” You question, “You seem very nice,”
Ginny is taken aback, but gladly obliges. She introduces you to her group of friends, and you try to keep their names in mind.
“Bloody hell,” Ron exclaims.
“What now, Ronald?” Hermione complains.
“I forgot my bloody wand in the Hall, d’you mind?” He asks her. Without waiting for a response, he runs back to the hall and spots you, Ginny, and her friends stopped to the side while groups of students pour out the hall. He freezes in place foo two reasons: (1) He is absolutely mesmerized by your face, (2) you’re talking to his little sister. He takes a few steps to where he was sat a few minutes ago and grabs his wand. He could do two things right about now–leave or make up some pathetic excuse to talk to Ginny, and by extension talk to you.
He chose the latter.
He was rehearsing all kinds of stupid excuses to talk to Ginny and veer the conversation to you.
“Ginny! Mom sent you a howler, telling you off for being annoying, I mean I could tell you that myself.”
“Ginny! Hermione says your hair looked greasy today, you should probably start a fight.”
“Ginny! Remember when you poured your heart to a diary and almost got the life sucked out of by You-Know-Who in the flesh?”
He was distracted and by the time he reaches you and Ginny and her friends, he’s stone-faced. His blood goes cold and a sweat starts to trickle on the nape of his neck.
“Hello, hello, uh,” He stammers. Ginny looks at him, in turn making you look at him. He sees you now, up close. You’ve grown a lot since that summer in Egypt. Your lips fuller, your hair longer, and you’ve grown into your features. You were sporting a paler look than you had last seen him, but he still thought you were glowing.
“Slugs–” He starts out. Ron didn’t know why he began with slugs. Ginny gives him a bizarre look and your eyes widen. It’s as though your brain was flipping through pages of memories and it finally landed on the page it was looking for–Egypt, 1993.
“It’s you!” You exclaimed. Ginny was now giving you a bizarre look. “You were the boy who ate slugs, correct?” Ron was so nervous, and he felt all his blood pooling in his face.
“What did you say then, er,– candied, yes?” Ron was silent through this, he was unaware of what to say.
Ginny’s eyes light up, as she finally put two and two together, “You’re the french muggle girl Ron went on about!”
“He went on about me?” You questioned. Ginny’s friend’s had sensed this was a conversation amongst the three of you, and left, telling her they’d meet her in the common room and left.
Ginny’s arms were now crossed against her chest, looking between you and Ron. You took off the signature Beauxbaton hat and fixed your hair, now conscious of the way you looked. Ron was too nervous to fix himself. Half his button-up was untucked and peeking from underneath his sweater, his collar was lopsided and his tie was arbitrarily knotted into a poor excuse of a windsor. He was transfixed on you, studying your features as though he were making sure that it was really you he tripped at King Tut’s tomb a year ago.
Ginny turned to her brother, and their eyes met, gesturing him to talk. Ron opened his mouth but his vocal chords refused him any vibration. You stared at him, as the gears grinded in his head.
“Er, I wouldn’t say went on about you,” Ron explained
“Wouldn’t say? Don’t lie, Ron.” Ginny said. Ron looked at her annoyedly, and Ginny smiled in return.
You smile, “Is it true you eat candied slugs here?”
Ginny chortles, “Candied slugs?”
“Is it not, uh, a delicacy? He told me that last year,” You ask, pointing to Ron
“Blimey…” Ron mutters. Ginny laughs. He reasons, “I thought you were a muggle.” You shoot him a puzzled look, “Muggle?”
“Normal, non-magic,” Ginny cuts in. Ron shoots her another look.
“Oh? Did, uh, I look not magical?” You ask jokingly.
“You were more than magical,” Ron says in a dream-like tone.
You fluster at his words and Ginny’s face turns into a disgusted look.
“I’ll leave you to it then,” Ginny says, turning her heel to exit the hall. Ron pleads at Ginny through his eyes, but she takes no notice and leaves him with you.
A pause takes you both. You recollect yourself, planning out what you want to say to Ron.
“I still have our, uh, polaroid.” You say warmly at Ron. He feels lighter, more comfortable knowing you kept the little piece of memorabilia from Egypt.
“So do I!” He exclaims, too enthusiastically. He sinks back down into composure, silently scolding himself for the unwanted burst of energy. “I thought you weren’t a witch, honestly.”
You smile, “I could see your wand.”
Ron blushes fiercely, shades of red slowly taking place on his face, soon it becomes so strong, it’s enough to rival his hair, “I-I’m sorry?”
“Your, uh, wand. It was held together, by, uh, tape.” You declare.
Ron sighed in relief, “You did?”
“Yes, it was in your back pocket the whole time, no?”
“Call me daft, I really thought no one would notice.”
“It’s why I thought you knew I was a witch,” You say. “I didn’t care to point it, er, out.”
Ron laughed humorlessly.
“Would you, er, care to show me around the castle?” You ask him. Ron inhaled deeply and his mouth crunched into himself, a habit that showed when he was nervous.
He carefully pushed a bang out of his face, before responding, “Uhm, okay.”
Ron feigns gentlemanliness, gesturing you to the exit of the hall. His feet don’t move in tune with each other, causing him to lose balance. He utters choice words, but you don’t seem to notice. You walk towards the exit and Ron is right behind you, eyeing you up and down, while whispering a strained bloody hell.
As Harry and Hermione waited for Ron at the hall doors, they were surprised to see you come out first with him on your tail. Hermione’s jaw dropped and Harry’s face lit up in approval.
“‘Ello!” You greeted them, “My name is [Y/N]!”
Harry’s eyes were wide, blinking away; Hermione scoffed in Ron’s direction. Ron merely shrugged, one of his bangs falling over his right eye. You looked back at Ron and at them, smiling. You were absolutely oblivious to the unspoken conversation the three were having amongst themselves. Ron’s head tilts in your direction, begging with Harry to say something.
“I’m Harry, Ron has told us so much about you, this here is Hermione,” Harry says, gesturing to her. Ron panics silently and makes a pained noise, causing you to look back at him. Harry is losing it and trying very hard to stay composed. Hermione is still silent, looking at you and looking back at Ron.
“Has he?” You ask Hermione and Harry.
“Oh, loads.” Says Harry simply. Ron wants to die.
“Er, why don’t we walk her around for a bit, yeah?” Ron takes you by the wrist, shuffling between Harry and Hermione. Hermione looks to Harry in disapproval, arms crossed. Harry shrugs and follows Ron.
Hermione catches up to Harry and whispers angrily, “What? Like she’s a dog?”
Hermione decides to leave the group, taking a right to the moving staircases, and she drags Harry along with her, much to his dismay. Ron was alone with you now.
The walk around the castle was quiet but you didn’t seem to mind. Ron was looking at you the whole time, looking away when you looked at him. Ron was taken back with how you were willingly donating your time to him, when you could have joined the Durmstrang boy who sat next to you during the feast. He could swear you were the most beautiful thing he’d ever seen. Though he was supposed to be leading you around Hogwarts, he was letting you lead and following you like a puppy.
You two finally stop at the courtyard, taking a seat on the grass. Ron stays standing, hands in pockets, pushing his cloak back. He’s looking around, avoiding your gaze. You catch his eye and pat the grass next to you. He cautiously sits down and assumes a long-sit. It is silent for a while, as you are basking in the moonlight. Ron is holding his breath, trying to emulate your relaxed demeanor but failing miserably.
“I think it’s important to tell you,” You start, breaking the silence, “I’m part veela.”
Ron is bewildered, “Veela?”
“I think it is why you are so nervous around me,”
“Nervous? Who said I was nervous?” He chuckles humorlessly and boomerangs back to a neutral expression. You laugh in response.
“It’s not really an, uh, intended effect. It comes with it, like how you are a wizard who does magic. Veelas attract other people very much so.”
“Oh,” Ron musters as a response. He stays silent, and so do you. It gets dark quickly, and you shoot up immediately.
“I didn’t realize how late it has gotten!” You exclaim to Ron, who stands quickly. You dust off your uniform, while Ron watches you. You’re quite the sight under the stars and Ron is absolutely lovestruck. “Madame Maxime will, as the English say, have my head.”
Ron smiles at you, unable to muster an answer as your smile is distracting and mesmerizing and simply put, beautiful. You grab his hand and pull him closer, landing a chaste kiss on his cheek.
“Thank you for bringing me around,” You whisper in a hug. As you pull away, you continue, “I hope to see you around again Don’t, uh, worry. I think I can find my way back.”
Ron is staring at you, rubbing his palm over his cheek. You giggle and walk back the same route you came. Ron is behind you again, looking you up and down again, while whispering a signature bloody hell again. He sees you walk down the hall until he can no longer see your figure and he makes his way back to the common room.
Harry is waiting on the sofa, as Hermione tucked herself in an hour before.
“I’m in love!” exclaims Ron to Harry. “I think I love her. I love her.”
Harry laughs in response.
“I’m not joking, mate!” Ron says to him in a serious tone. “I have to see her again.”
“Alright, you aren’t joking!” Harry replies back strongly.
“Harry, I mean it I have to see her again!” Ron says again, with such a remarkable tone of desperation in his voice. His face is so close to Harry’s, Harry wrings his head backward for protection.
“They’ll be here the whole year, Ron. You don’t have to worry.”
Ron is satisfied with Harry’s answer, and wordlessly climbs up the stairs to his bed. He makes a beeline for his sock drawer, thrashing it open, throwing sock after sock out of it until he finds the polaroid of you two together. He lays it on his bed, photo in hand, resting it on his chest. He repeats your name with a smile on his face. He doesn’t bother to change out of his school clothes, and falls asleep hoping to see you the next day and the day after that and the day after that.

hi hi i was reading ur hcs and i think their really great!!! do u have any hcs about arthur and merlin talking about kids, and like how they would look after kids of their own??
Thank you!! And sorry this took so long! Life is busy but I'm trying to vaguely stay online!
I've said before I firmly believe Merlin is great with kids and Arthur is.... not. He wants to be he really does, but he just doesn't really get them. And maybe this comes from a number of things, the main one being their upbringing...
Hunith wasn't an especially open or communicative mother, she wasn't perfect, but that's another post, but she cared. She loved Merlin, she made him feel safe and happy and loved. Merlin's childhood was likely far from ideal, but she showed him love and care. And Uther... sucked. Did he love Arthur? Well, yes. But Arthur genuinely didn't know that. In fact when Uther tells him he loves him ("more than this entire kingdom and certainly more than my own life"), Arthur responds with "I always thought I was a big disappointment to you."
He didn't know he was loved. And propriety held him back from any care or affection he might ever have received. His childhood was severely lacking and given a child he just wouldn't know what to do with it.
But at the same time he cares deeply for others and would want to do the best possibly thing, while having no emotional intelligence or concept of childhood. Picture like, Merlin walking in on Arthur telling a "bedtime story" to an eight year old and having to quickly wrap up and change subject before Arthur gets to the bit in that particular memory where everyone was brutally murdered. Or Arthur sitting and wondering "Hmm.... what engaging conversation can I have with this toddler?" and landing on "swords". But he would love any child in his care with the whole of his idiot heart no question about it.
Any conversation about kids... Arthur would bring it up. Family is such an important thing to him. Having people to care for.
Plus I don't think he'd appreciate how difficult kids can be...... Despite everyone else pointing out that HE was a NIGHTMARE to look after, and if any kid was like him there's no way he could handle them.
In terms of Merlin, I think he'd somewhat just understand children well. But perhaps not royalty, and if this is a child in Arthur's care I can perhaps see problems here... Formal events would inevitably end up as "Arthur you can't put a kid in that, it's way too heavy!" "It's a formal event I can't dress them in rags!" "How's he supposed to run around??" "He's not."
Oh and also, I think kids would tune into Merlin's magic somewhat. Because he is magic itself after all. Canons a bit of a mess in how magic and magical ability works, but I think in children, there's a more natural pull towards it — without the fear that grew towards the idea of sorcery as they grew up — and also just because kids are kids and they're curious and young and interested. So they'd maybe feel safer around him, or just know that he was safety, that he'd protect them, without really knowing why.
I would also like everyone to imagine Merlin doing magic to calm kids down, or using it to animate stories as he tells them. And maybe Arthur being secretly just as fascinated by it.
That's all the thoughts I have for right now, I might have more later. Thanks again 💕💞

hm im not very original but idc!! merwaine + magic reveal
thank u for the prompt! i actually don’t think i’ve written a magic reveal for them before oop 😳
It had been an accident, really, which Gwaine supposed wasn’t very flattering. Although Lancelot also found out through an accident, so he thought maybe it was all right. It had been a cold night, cold enough that Gwaine feared that his bollocks would freeze off, and the only wood they could find was damp and they’d already tried lighting it anyway for the better part of an hour. It was just the pair of them, waiting for the morning to continue their journey back to Camelot. As far as routine missions went, this was on the not-so-routine side. Halfway to the nearby village, bandits had attacked and almost killed them both in the process. It was only when a branch accidentally squashed a particular well-built man that they could get away. Or not accidentally, Gwaine wasn’t too sure and made a mental note to ask Merlin later.
Whilst huddling for warmth did have the benefit of being pressed close to Merlin, he was too cold to fully appreciate the moment- shivering taking up all his energy. So, with a sort of half-laugh, Gwaine said, “If only one of us had a bit of magic, eh? Don’t tell Arthur I said that, mind.” Merlin hadn’t laughed, though, only stiffening up a little, and Gwaine didn’t feel as if he should apologise for that, so didn’t. But the atmosphere between them had suddenly turned sour, something Gwaine was inept to deal with, so again, he didn’t. “God, I have to have another search, Merlin. We need some dry firewood, and I’ll find some if it’s the last thing I do.” He pulled away, standing up with stiff joints.
“Don’t say that,” Merlin chastised, looking worried. Gwaine smiled down at him, shaking his head slightly. He clapped him on the back.
“I won’t be gone long.” And with that he went on his way. Unsuccessful, of course. The forest may as well have been flooded with all the good it did them.
Apparently, he hadn’t been gone long enough. When Gwaine returned he saw Merlin hunched over the pile of wet logs, his faced scrunched up in concentration. His hands were hovering just above, fingering twitching slightly from the cold. And then, just as Gwaine was about to announce himself present, the logs lit up with a large flame. It sparked up quickly, soaring up a foot before dying down to a smaller blaze. Gwaine took a step back, blinked, then blinked again.
So, magic, huh? Gwaine brushed a hand through his hair and simply just stared at the fire for a few moments, wondering how the hell he’d missed something that… important.
“You did it!” Gwaine called out, his voice a little rough. Merlin looked up sheepish but smiled as Gwaine approached. “How’d you manage that, then?” He stuck his hands out, feeling the heat seep into his skin.
Merlin eyed him carefully. “Salvaged what dry wood I could find.”
Gwaine nodded. “I bet that spell helped, too.” Merlin flinched, looking at Gwaine with wide, worried eyes. “Shoulda just told me and it would have saved us a load of trouble. And maybe saved a toe or two.”
Luckily, Merlin laughed at that. “You’ve not lost your toes, idiot.” His smile faded into a grimace, so Gwaine bumped him on the shoulder. “I’m sorry I didn’t tell you.”
Gwaine frowned. “Don’t be daft.” Merlin flexed his hand and Gwaine caught the movement with his eye, then feeling cheeky he grabbed it. Merlin looked up with a quirked eyebrow. “To keep warm.” He said, not able to quieten his grin.
“To keep warm.” Merlin agreed, clutching back.

Comforting Enough
Tumblr media
Pairing: George Weasley x reader
Request: May I request an imagine where George and the reader have been close for many years, her father being friends with the Weasley’s. The reader and George obviously have feelings for eachother, but they’ve never confessed. When Fred and George leave she is still at hogwarts, cause shes a year younger. But, the reader gets into a serious relationship with someone else, until she gets hurt or cheated on. Cut to now, where they meet again at the Burrow when Harry is being moved ? Thank u!💛
a/n: I took the movie as reference, hope you don’t mind. Also, I think it got this long because I had to go through a few events to be as close to canon as possible. Thanks again for requesting it, I loved the idea!
Warnings: angsty, mentions of death and blood.
Word count: 4,898
********
You hugged your pillow tight and let out all the tears you had been holding during the way back to your dorm.
How could he do that to you? You had always been there for him. Always! You didn’t deserve that. No one deserved that.
The thought of how unfair it was only made you cry even more.
Why had he done that to you? You couldn’t understand. He said... he said he loved you. But that wasn’t love. That couldn’t be love.
The scene went through your eyes again. The sharp feeling of a knife being dug into your heart was too intense.
It was just before the last class of the day. You had seen him at lunch, you had shared a short kiss, you had gone separate ways. A perfectly normal day.
But you heard giggles coming from the second floor girls’ lavatory on your way to the last class. You, being the Head Girl, had to go there and see if Moaning Myrtle was being teased by the students or something of the sort. You would never think that what you were about to see was your boyfriend shamelessly making out with a girl. A girl that wasn’t you. A girl that was sitting on the sinks with her legs wrapped around your boyfriend’s hips.
You froze on the spot. You wanted to turn around and leave. You wanted to run as fast as you could, but your feet were glued to the ground. You could only watch the scene with your mouth dry.
It was only when the girl saw you and parted the kiss that you were able to turn around and run to your dorm. You guessed your boyfriend saw you leaving too, because the last thing you heard was him yelling at the girl.
“You said no one comes here!”
And now there you were. The tears fell down so quickly, you thought they would never stop.
Your chest felt so tight, the room so small, the bed so cold...
But the worst part of it all was the fact that you had no one to call. You couldn’t think of a single person you could go to at that moment. There was no shoulder to cry on. Well, of course there was someone in your mind, though. But that someone wasn’t here anymore. And, God, did it hurt.
It hurt because you knew if that someone was still here, you wouldn’t be going through that. How many times had he warned you about the boy you insisted in dating? How many letters had he sent you saying you deserved better? Saying that boy wasn’t the one for you? Saying he would hurt you?
And how many letters had you sent back saying you were the one who knew what was best for you? And that he had lost the right to say those things when he left?
One. Only one.
George didn’t write back after that.
Your crying got even more intense as you thought about what happened between you and your best friend. You had no one to cry to anymore. You had no one to hold you until the pain went away. You had no one.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Your seventh year in Hogwarts was the hardest school year you had ever been through. You caught your boyfriend cheating on you with a younger girl just weeks shy of graduation, but that didn’t compare to the death of your headmaster Albus Dumbledore and the small battle that took place in Hogwarts just before that. It was the scariest moment of your life and when you truly realized you were in a war, leaving you completely lost and on the verge of despair.
Once you were back home, you felt uncertain of your future as the fear of losing your loved ones was taking over you.
The long weeks went by and you saw your father going out often while your mother spent her days making sure all the protection spells worked. She was starting to become obsessed with it and you were worried about her, but you didn’t know what to do. You were spending your days almost like her. Though instead of protection spells, your obsession was the news. Every day you read the news terrified of seeing a known name on the missing people list... or worse.
You wanted to do something to help, and although your father agreed you were old enough to fight, your mother always rejected the idea, keeping you home.
One day, you were surprised by the visit of Arthur Weasley. It was strange to realize that you had missed him very much. You wanted to be part of the conversation he was having with your father, but your mother kept you in the kitchen with her, saying they needed privacy.
When they were finished and Mr. Weasley left, your father had a puzzled look on his face. You wondered what they had talked about specifically, although you knew it was the war.
The next day, your father came to your room and, for your shock, said you would have to leave.
“It’s not safe enough here,” he said, holding your hand, “You’ll stay at the Burrow, with the Weasleys. I’m sure you’ll feel at home there.”
Of course you would. You had basically grown up there.
“Yes, but what about you and mom?”
“We’ll be okay. Don’t worry,” he gave you a smile, but that didn’t stop you from worrying at all. “Arthur brought me a Portkey. You’ll use it this evening.”
“This evening?! Dad, I don’t understand. Why aren’t you coming with me?” you frowned, confused.
“Your mother and I have work to do here,” he answered with a more serious expression, “You’ll be safer there.”
“When will I see you again?” you asked, realizing you had no choice.
“Soon. Now pack what you need and be ready.”
You nodded and your father left the room. Although you didn’t quite understand why you had to leave or why you would be safer at the Burrow, you did as your father said and packed what you needed.
Soon enough you were standing at his office and staring at an old book on the floor, holding your suitcase. Both of your parents were there with you, your father’s arm around your mother’s shoulder.
“In a minute, darling,” your father spoke.
“I love you,” your mother said, holding back tears.
“I love you too. Both of you,” you replied.
“We’ll meet again,” your father stated, refusing to take part in the farewell. He looked at his watch one more time and nodded, “Be ready.”
You took a deep breath and tightened the grip on your suitcase’s handle.
You didn’t remember hearing your father’s signal or touching the old book. All you remembered was feeling a hook pulling you back strongly. You closed your eyes as you felt really dizzy and only opened them again once your feet were firm on the ground.
You looked around and recognized the living room you were in. It didn’t take long for you to see Mrs. Weasley rushing from the kitchen.
“Oh, Y/N! You’re just in time! Thank Merlin,” she approached you with her arms open to give you a tight hug, “Welcome, dear.”
“Thank you, aunt Molly.”
“They haven’t arrived yet. I’m waiting with Ginny,” she took the suitcase from your hand and walked towards the stairs. You followed her. “I know they still have time, but you know what a mother’s heart is like. I will only calm down when my four boys come back here safely. And Arthur, of course.”
“Um... Where are they?”
Mrs. Weasley stopped in the middle of the corridor and looked at you.
“You don’t know?”
You shook your head.
“Your parents didn’t tell you?”
You shook your head again, slightly upset for being left out.
“Oh, well. They are moving Harry,” she continued her way to Ginny’s room, “Alastor came up with this nearly crazy plan to bring him. Insanely dangerous! I didn’t agree with it, of course, but do they listen to me? Not ever.”
“Fred and... George are there too?” you asked. It was the first time in months you said those names aloud. You felt weird, actually. And sad. Those names rolled out of your tongue as if you were talking about strangers, or at least two people you met in a different life. Either way, you felt sad.
“Yes. They are out there with Arthur, Bill and Ron. Can’t blame me for being worried, huh?”
“No, I cannot,” you shook your head, feeling worried as well, “Who else is with them?”
“Alastor, of course, along with Fleur, Remus, Nymphadora, Hagrid, Hermione, Kingsley and Mundungus.”
You felt your worry slightly fade away as you heard those names. You would trust those people with your life if needed. Your father was friends with Mad-Eye Moody and you were well aware of his incredible reputation. But you knew you couldn’t be completely relaxed though, given the risks of the mission, and you felt your guts twirl once you thought about your friends facing Death Eaters. However, you didn’t have to worry about that, they wouldn’t have to face anyone that night, they were just moving Harry.
“Ginny?” Mrs. Weasley opened the door, allowing you to see Ginny staring at her window with her arms crossed. “Y/N is here.”
“Hey,” you waved at her.
Ginny quickly walked up to you and hugged you almost just as tight as her mother had.
“It’s really good to see you, Y/N,” she whispered, sounding relieved.
“It’s good to see you too, little one,” you breathed, realizing how much you had missed her, even though you had seen each other in Hogwarts weeks before.
You had always seen Ginny as your best friend’s little sister, hence the nickname you gave her, but after she caught you crying in the Common Room at two in the morning and stayed with you until you were able to go to bed, you started seeing her as a friend. Even though you weren’t really close, she comforted you and made sure you were okay before leaving you alone again. You couldn’t expect that from many people.
“We should wait for them downstairs, girls,” Mrs. Weasley said as she placed your suitcase on the bed, “It’s almost time.”
You and Ginny went to the living room, while Mrs. Weasley decided to stay in the kitchen, where she would be closer to the entrance door.
With each and every sound you heard outside, you felt your heart sinking in. You were trying to push those thoughts away, but it was impossible. What if George didn’t come back? What if something happened to him? Of course you were worried about every single person in that mission, but... George had your heart in his hands. He had it ever since your thirteenth birthday and he would have it forever. You loved him deeply, no matter how many times you had tried to fool yourself by going out with different people and even being in a serious relationship with a boy that wasn’t good to you, which turned out hurting you badly.
You shouldn’t have sent that letter to George. Those couldn’t be your last words to him. They won’t be, you thought. But you couldn’t stop the regret from flooding your mind as you remembered one specific part of the letter.
You don’t get to tell me who I can or can’t go out with. I know what’s best for me and if I want to go out with Pete, I will. You don’t know him like I do.
You were embarrassed. You didn’t think you would be able to look George in the eyes now. Did he know Pete had cheated on you? Had Ginny told him? Should you ask her? Probably not. It wasn’t time for that. She was worried about truly important things at that moment.
But you couldn’t help it. You kept wondering. Was George upset with you? He didn’t write back after that letter, which meant you two hadn’t talked to each other for several months now. You missed him very much, but you had no idea of how you were going to fix things. That is, if you could fix things.
Suddenly, you heard a noise outside, the loudest in that night. You and Ginny jumped from the couch and ran to the front yard, where Mrs. Weasley welcomed Hagrid and Harry.
Ginny ran to the boy and threw her arms around his neck.
“Where are the others?” Mrs. Weasley asked.
“Is no one else back?” Harry questioned.
You shook your head, biting your lower lip nervously.
Hagrid started explaining to Mrs. Weasley what had happened to them, while Ginny and Harry talked to each other. You wanted to give them privacy, so you followed Hagrid and Mrs. Weasley inside.
“We didn’t stand a chance, Molly,” Hagrid said, once the three of you were in the kitchen, “The Death Eaters were waiting for us. It was an ambush.”
You felt cold in your core. The fear you had been trying to push away finally took over your entire being. You needed to sit down, or else you would fall.
An ambush.
“Quick! Into the house!” you heard the familiar voice of your former teacher Remus Lupin coming from the front yard. You ran to the entrance door and opened it to let the people inside. What you didn’t expect to see was George covered in blood being held by Lupin and Harry.
“My boy!” Mrs. Weasley cried, “My boy.”
Professor Lupin and Harry laid George down on the couch. You watched it all from the kitchen door, too shocked to even breathe properly. Your hands were shaking and your core felt so cold... You didn’t know what to do. Worrying about the whole Pete situation seemed so silly and insignificant now.
You didn’t remember seeing the others arrive, but with a blink of an eye you saw Fred kneeling down in front of George, everyone else watching with worried expressions.
“How do you feel, Georgie?” Mrs. Weasley whispered.
George’s fingers groped for the side of his head.
“Saintlike,” he murmured.
“What’s wrong with him?” Fred croaked, looking terrified. “Is his mind affected?”
“Saintlike,” George repeated, opening his eyes and looking up at his brother. “You see... I’m holey, Fred, get it?”
You chuckled silently, feeling a tear roll down your cheek. But you quickly wiped it as you saw Tonks looking at you curiously.
Fred laughed quietly. “The whole wide world of ear-related humor, and you go for ‘I’m holey’? It’s pathetic.”
“Reckon I’m still better looking than you,” George smiled weakly.
You smiled to yourself after hearing that. He was still the same George you had grown up with and fallen for. The same George that had taught you how to fly on a broomstick and how to play Quidditch and Exploding Snap. The same George you had shared your deepest secrets with. The same George.
You were gathering the courage to get closer to him and let him see you, but you were completely disarmed when Bill announced the bad news.
“Mad-Eye is dead.”
The room instantly fell in silence. You could see the usual sparkle in Tonks’ eyes fading away.
“Mundungus took one look at Voldemort and disapparated,” Bill added in a low voice.
No one dared to say a word. Everyone seemed to be completely in shock. You didn’t move one muscle, Mr. and Mrs. Weasley shared a sad glance, Ginny looked down at her feet, Fleur got closer to Bill, Tonks placed her hand on Lupin’s and slowly every person in that room felt the reality hitting them.
The sad atmosphere was almost unbearable, the silence deafening.
You crossed your arms above your chest in an attempt of holding yourself tight.
And it was just the beginning...
After a while, the people in the room started leaving. Some passed by you and went to the kitchen, some went outside, others went to their own rooms... Until it was just you, Mrs. Weasley and the twins.
George couldn’t see you from where he was, since Fred was in the way. Mrs. Weasley was caressing her son’s hair with one hand and trying to clean the blood with the other. You hesitantly approached the couch, seeing that George had his eyes closed, and touched Mrs. Weasley’s trembling hand.
“Let me do it,” you asked softly.
George instantly opened his eyes at the sound of your voice. You didn’t meet them as you didn’t think you were strong enough to do so. You took the handkerchief from Mrs. Weasley’s hand and told her to rest. She didn’t reject the idea and soon left the room as well, being followed by Fred, who understood the importance of that moment for you and his brother.
You could feel George’s eyes piercing you, but you ignored them. You sat by his side on the couch and focused on his injury, softly wiping the blood with the kerchief.
“Didn’t think I would see you tonight,” he whispered once you two were completely alone.
“And I didn’t think I would see you like this tonight,” you replied in the same volume.
“What? More handsome?”
You smiled, finally meeting his eyes. You didn’t expect them to be so sad, though.
Your heart skipped beats as he blinked. There was so much you wanted to tell him, so much you wanted to hear from him...
“I...” you tried to say the things you were thinking, but you didn’t find the right words. It was all too crowded in your mind, and suddenly your body expressed what you were feeling in the only way it could: you started to cry.
It was quietly and discretely, but it was still crying. You wiped the tears with the back of your hand and sniffed, trying to make it look like less than what it truly was.
“Hey,” he said, grabbing your hand and squeezing it tightly, “I’m okay.”
“I’m so sorry, George. So sorry,” you shook your head, “I was so stupid. I’m sorry.”
George looked at you, slightly furrowing his brows. He seemed hesitant and unsure, like he was fighting a battle in his head. What you didn’t know was that that battle wasn’t new to him and he had fought it many times before.
But when George saw you wiping one more tear, he left all that hesitation behind and let go of his uncertainty. He sat up on the couch and wrapped his arms around you, pulling you as close to him as possible. Maybe you should have been more rational than him, maybe you should have told him to lay down again. But you didn’t do that. You hugged him back and at that moment you let out everything.
You were completely vulnerable, as you always were around him, and broke down immediately, crying like never before. It was all too much for you. And even though you felt safe in his arms, you knew that war was far from ending and that you would be really lucky if the people you loved didn’t get hurt again.
George, on the other hand, felt grateful. He was happy to be hugging you again and to be feeling your soft skin against his, even if it was such a brief touch. He felt his worries fading away, his fears disappearing, the war being reduced to a headache. Your embrace was peaceful, warm and gentle. It was perfect. And it smelled really good, like home.
“Shh, I’m here,” he whispered while he slowly stroked your hair, still holding you strongly, “I’m okay.”
“I was so scared,” you said between sobs, against the clean part of his shirt, “I thought you were-”
“Shh, it’s okay.”
“I’m sorry, George.”
“It’s okay,” he repeated.
“I should be comforting you. Not the other way around,” you let go of him and wiped your tears once again.
“You are here with me. You are safe. Alive,” he said, looking in your eyes, “That’s comforting enough.”
You tried to give him a smile, but your chest felt too tight for that. Instead, you reached for his face and caressed his cheek, trying desperately to let him know how much you cared for him, how much you loved him.
“Lay down,” you whispered, realizing he was still bleeding, “I’ll put a bandage on your ear.”
“You mean my non-existent ear?” George raised an eyebrow as he laid back on the couch.
“You’ll have two non-existent ears if you keep teasing me,” you warned, already conjuring the stuff you would need for the wound dressing.
George smiled. “I missed you.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
You woke up the next morning sweating. You had a nightmare of which you couldn’t remember the exact details, but you could feel it had something to do with your parents. You rubbed your eyes and realized they were wet. Great, you had been crying in your sleep.
You looked around noticing you were alone in Ginny’s room, which meant you were the last one to wake up. You didn’t understand why the girls had been up so early until you realized what day it was. You jumped from the bed and rushed to the bathroom to take a quick shower and get ready. It was Bill and Fleur’s wedding and you couldn’t be late.
Fortunately, your father had told you about the wedding and you had packed a dress for the occasion. You hoped your parents would make it to the party, but you highly doubted it.
Soon enough, you were walking down the stairs fully dressed up and entered the living room. There was no one there. You spun on your heels to go to the kitchen but stopped when you heard Ginny’s voice.
“Zip me up, will you?”
You walked slowly to the door and looked at the kitchen’s interior, seeing Ginny and Harry in there. The girl had her dress unzipped on the back, that was facing the boy. He hesitantly walked up to her and started zipping it.
You blushed when you realized how intimate that moment was. You were about to step back and stop creeping on them when you saw George coming in at the other side.
“’Morning,” he said, raising his cup of tea at them and completely ruining their moment.
You sighed, but a chuckle slipped out of your mouth. Typical.
You had to do something, though.
“Hey, George,” you greeted him as you entered the kitchen. “Oh, hey, Ginny. Harry,” you nodded at them, pretending you hadn’t seen them before. “Could you come with me, Georgie? I need your help.”
The younger twin narrowed his eyes at you but gave in, following you outside.
“Yes?” he asked once you were in the front yard, “What is it?”
“Nothing. I couldn’t let you get in their way,” you shook your head.
He sighed deeply. “I should’ve known.”
“Probably,” you agreed, smiling.
Only at that moment George was able to actually look at you and take in what he was seeing. You looked absolutely beautiful. Like always! But this time was different. You were both older and you were basically two grown ups now. It had been a long time since he had last seen you. Your hair was slightly longer, he noticed in his mind.
His eyes trailed down your entire figure until they curiously stopped on your left hand. Suddenly, they seemed sad, grey.
“Is he coming?” he asked.
You frowned. “Who?”
“Pete,” he pointed at your hand. You looked at it and saw the silver ring on your ring finger. A ring that your father had given you for your eighteenth birthday, but George didn’t know that.
“No, he’s not,” you answered, feeling your throat tighten. “We’re not together anymore.”
Something shifted in George’s eyes and you couldn’t tell what it was. You felt your mouth slightly dry as he tucked his hands in his pockets.
“Oh,” he said, “What happened?”
“What you said it would. He hurt me,” your voice broke at the last sentence, although you weren’t going to cry. You cleared your throat, realizing the atmosphere around you two had suddenly become serious.
“I’m so sorry, Y/N.”
“Yeah... me too,” you nodded, “I shouldn’t have pushed you away like I did. You didn’t deserve that, you were just trying to protect me.”
“Maybe I was too invasive? You had the right to react the way you did. I could’ve been mistaken, since I was mainly acting out of...”
Jealousy. Acting out of jealousy. But George wasn’t going to admit that so easily.
“Well, I didn’t really know how to deal with the distance,” he concluded.
“Me neither. I felt so lonely in that castle, George. You have no idea,” you breathed, “But no, you weren’t mistaken.”
George nodded, looking down at his feet. Was it too selfish to admit that he was slightly glad that you weren’t with Pete anymore? He felt guilty for it, but he couldn’t avoid it. He still remembered the letter you sent him talking about Pete for the first time. He remembered feeling helpless and lost, like he couldn’t do anything to stop it. He knew Pete, the charming Ravenclaw that every girl in Hogwarts had a crush on. Of course the boy would ask you out, he would be crazy if he didn’t. But George had been almost sure it would end up with your heart broken. Pete had a reputation and it looked like you were ignoring it.
Now, seeing that he was right and it did end up with you being hurt, he felt guilty. Guilty because he could’ve done more to protect you. He could’ve ignored your angry letter and visited you when you went home for Christmas. He could’ve been there for you more. But no. He let his pride take over him and didn’t write to you again.
“I’m sorry to hear that, Y/N.”
“Well, it’s over now. And I’m okay. Ginny was great, I don’t know how I would have carried on if it wasn’t for her.”
“Oh, I see,” George nodded, “That’s why suddenly you decided to help her?”
You chuckled. “The only way to have a friend is to be one.”
“Yeah,” he looked down again, “I should’ve had that in mind.”
“Stop, George,” you moved closer to him, “It wasn’t your fault.”
“I should’ve been there for you.”
“I pushed you away.”
“I should’ve known better.”
“You couldn’t.”
“I love you.”
You froze.
You had said you loved each other countless times before, but it sounded so different this time. You felt it was different. You felt it had more meaning behind it.
Or were you overreading it?
You didn’t care.
“I love you too,” you said, hoping he would feel the same thing you felt when you heard it from him.
The sadness you had seen in his eyes minutes before was now gone. It was replaced by a sparkle you hadn’t seen in over a year, the same sparkle he had in his eyes when his pranks worked the way he wanted.
George slowly took your hand in his and started playing with your ring.
“I-”
“George! Over here! We could use some help!” Bill waved at his brother from across the yard. You both looked at him, realizing that the men were setting the tent for the wedding.
“I should go there,” he sighed. “Or maybe I could use my injury to stay here,” he looked at you as if he had just had the most brilliant idea.
“No,” you chuckled, letting go of his hand, “It wouldn’t be right, they need your help.”
“I knew you would never be the same again after becoming Head Girl,” he shook his head.
“Hey!” you protested, “You didn’t even see me in action.”
“But I’d bet a hundred galleons that it was something like this,” he smiled, “Always playing by the book, never having fun...”
“I had my fun,” you shrugged it off.
“Sure.”
“I did!”
“Okay.”
“Weasley!”
“Don’t say it too loud, otherwise everyone will answer,” he smiled, “And I don’t believe you. I don’t think you had fun without me.”
“You are so entitled, aren’t you?” you shook your head in disbelief, but your smirk contradicted your line. “Go set the tent.”
“Will you still be here when I come back?” he asked, half-joking.
“Always,” you replied truthfully.

The girl next door
A/N ok yes it’s technically 1am but fk u all its STILL DAY 6 IN MY MIND anyway this is a !muggle reader x James fic, the classic girl next door trope :)) Enjoy lovelies!
The girl next door
James watched from his window as a bright red car rolled up into the driveway next to his. The house next door was relatively similar to his own, a classic Victorian terrace with a balcony overlooking the front lawn and the back garden. James’ parents hadn’t changed the decorations much, wanting to keep it in line with muggle stereotypes as much as possible, not draw attention to themselves unnecessarily. The most they had added were two rocking chairs out on the front porch for them to watch the neighbourhood pass around them, doing muggle things.
James’ next-door neighbours, however, had done the exact opposite. Whilst they had to keep the front façade, heritage or some odd muggle council thing, they had painted the front a deep-sea blue, the door was porcelain white to match the balcony. Hanging down across the painted walls was lush ivory which vined its way across the façade and up the edge of the balcony, meeting a row of blueberry and raspberry plants that had never really sprouted. From James’ bedroom, he could see into the back of the house and garden, completely renovated so that there were large windows covering the kitchen and living space and led out into a complete mess of a garden, a huge oak tree in the middle, daisy’s and honeysuckles covering the grassy surrounding it.
When James was young, he used to watch with envy at the large tyre that was tied to the edge of the tree, watching the couple swing their young daughter higher and higher into the tree. He wondered if it was the closest thing muggle’s felt to flying.
He first met the girl next door when he was 8, when Euphemia and Fleamont had brought around a large pudding to greet the new neighbours. They had ushered them in, the woman wearing an oversized pair of overalls and covered in paint, the man in jeans and a jumper, holding the newspaper in one hand as he led them into the kitchen.
“We have a daughter around the same age as James.” He remembered them saying to his parents whilst he looked around at the brightly coloured utensils hanging around the kitchen.
“Y/N!” At her mum’s yell, Y/N came skidding through the open doorway, sliding further than she expected in her socks on the smooth wooden floorboards and grabbing hold of James to slow down.
“She’s a bit of a wild one, our Y/N,” her dad had said, grinning down at her as Y/N gave James an apologetic grimace, “Why don’t you show James the yard?”
She grabbed James’ hand and pulled him out the large back door, which was also a window, and led him towards the tree.
“This is a fairy tree, they like to sleep here at night, but if you’re lucky you might get to see one,” She winked, a piece of her curly dark hair falling into her face. She tried to blow it off with the corner of her mouth before shaking it off her face. She was wearing a bright pink dress, James remembered because he wondered whether she was going to ruin it as she grabbed hold of the tree branch and swung herself up and onto it.
“Come on! What are you staring for?”
“Nothing, coming,” He’d grinned up at her and pulled himself up, joining her on the large tree. They’d jumped around it for an hour before his parents came back into the yard and brought him home.
Being an only child, James took any opportunity he could do have her over or vice versa when she was bored and wanted someone to hoist her onto the tallest branch.
“I can see the whole way to London from here!”
“You bloody cannot,” James snorted, tickling the inside of her leg so she jolted forwards, having to grab hold of the branch in front to steady herself.
“Oi!”
“That’s what you get for lying,” James giggled as she tried to reach down and poke him, but she was too high up.
“Come up here so I can get you back.”
“Not even if Merlin was up there,” James danced around the trunk of the tree, avoiding her foot as it dangled, trying to find his head.
“What, like King Arthur? Stop moving! I promise I won’t hit you I’m just trying to get down,” Y/N held her leg still until James sighed and moved over so she could use his shoulders to climb back down. She hit him across the arm the moment she landed on a thick branch, her lip curling brazenly.
“You are so dead,” James growled at her, chasing her across the tree branches, watching Y/N giggle loudly as he got closer until he could tackle her onto the grass in a heap.
When they got older, well mostly when James went to a ‘faraway very boring nothing to talk about’ boarding school they drifted apart. It was natural enough, they still saw each other on break, chatting about their classes and friends. On Christmas eve, Fleamont and Euphemia would invite all the neighbours around for scones and tea and Y/N would sneak some chocolate for James and herself to share in the garden, watching the stars. When they turned 14, it was a bottle of wine from her parents tiny under the floorboards cellar and they giggled for hours as the wine made James feel light-headed and flushed and like he could do bloody well anything.
When the parents had moved into the sitting room for whiskey (well it was firewhiskey with the label hidden), James and Y/N had stolen a blanket so they could keep lying on the grass as the snow began to fall on their heads. James turned to look at her, face flushed from both the bottle of red wine and freezing air, eyes wide and twinkling as she looked up at the stars, a look of awe on her face. Snow had begun to land on her eyebrows and hair, sparkling brightly against her pale skin and dark curls in a halo around her head.
“Snow has got to be the prettiest thing on earth,” She’d said sitting up and looking across the garden as it settled in the grass and leaves. James was still staring at her and she gave him a funny look in return. “What?”
“You look so beautiful with snow in your hair.” James wasn’t sure if it was the alcohol talking or himself but without giving it a second thought he leaned in and kissed her, softly, his heartbeat rising in his chest.
He’d pulled back slowly, watching Y/N’s mouth make a small ‘o’ and her whole body freeze momentarily.
“I’m sorry, it… must be the alcohol, I didn’t mean – “
“No it’s fine I just – “
“Why don’t we go back inside?” James’ heart was racing, his head catching up to himself. You bloody idiot.
“Oh, yeah ok.” James had given her a hand standing up, and they’d both walked back inside in silence, brushing the snow from their hair and shoulders.
Since then, things had never really gone back to normal. James focused all his romantic energy on Lily, Lily who would scowl as he walked past and became infuriated by the smallest of prods, but wouldn’t make him feel like he did that Christmas Eve. Hollow.
The next Christmas break, Sirius turned up on their doorstep, bruises covering every inch of visible skin, blood dripping down his lip and staining the side of his thin long-sleeve top.
“Hey… mate,” He spluttered when James pulled open the door, freezing up when he saw Sirius’ state.
“Sirius, Merlin, are you ok, get inside come on, MUM! DAD!” He yelled towards the stairs before reaching out and grabbing Sirius as he went to collapse on the front doorstep. They didn’t have anyone over for Christmas eve that year, Sirius still sickly thin, the fading bruises still deep blues and purples splaying across his face and legs. Sirius sat up with James all night talking about next years Quidditch cup and the best way to get a date for the first Hogsmeade weekend back, James continually flicking his eyes towards the bedroom window where lights were still on.
“Am I not as interesting as the darkness,” Sirius threw a pillow at him when James outright didn’t respond to Sirius’ question about how much frogs spawn was too much frogs spawn.
“Oh sorry, what?”
“What are you looking at?” Sirius narrowed his eyes, a smile creeping onto his face.
“Nothing, it’s nothing- “ But Sirius had already jumped out of the bed, masking his pain with a grimace and was limping over to the window. He gazed out, pushing James to the side as he tried to close the blinds, looking over into Y/N’s house.
“Ahhh, of course! I guess a hot girl is more interesting than I am,” Sirius snorted, still watching, “Ooo, a taken girl, much less interesting.”
“What?” Forgetting all pretence of composure, he hopped out of bed and rushed over to the window. He could see Y/N leaning up against the wall, smiling at something out of view. That something quickly returned, as a tall curly haired boy who lifted her up in the air and kissed her passionately. James felt something in his gut twist. He turned away quickly from the window, sitting back on his bed, determined to look calm.
“And here I was thinking that Lily was the only one for you huh?” Sirius grinned widely, prodding James, “Come on, there’s a million girls out there, I promise we can find you someone just like that.”
Sirius raised an eyebrow when James didn’t reply. He sat back on the bed and watched him, letting the silence hang.
“She was my first kiss.” James had said. He’d never really admitted that before. They didn’t really talk about that kind of stuff, more like what they could do, will do. Sirius remained silent, gripping one hand on James’ knee.
Y/N hopped out of the red car, opening the boot to help her parents get out the rest of the shopping bags and bring them into the house. Sirius wasn’t awake yet, and James was indulging himself by watching her smile up at her dad who had likely told a really terrible joke about fishing. The door closed and James found himself wandering back to his bedroom, wondering if she would go to her room and read or listen to music or something. Maybe she would look up to where his window was too, looking for him. James rolled his eyes at himself, shaking his head. Stop being such a sap.
Then he froze. Standing at the side of their house was Sirius, looking up at James and waving fervently, smiling like an absolute dick. He saw him exaggerate waggling his eyebrows and mime walking up to the front door.
“Don’t you fucking dare,” James mouthed at him, giving him the finger and trying to swat him away from the house. Sirius grinned wider and walked out of James’ vision. James sprinted back to the living room banging on the window loudly as Sirius walked up to Y/N’s front door and knocked. James stopped banging immediately as her mum answered the door and craned forwards, desperately wishing he could hear through glass. She brought him into the house and closed the door.
When Sirius returned James jumped him.
“What the FUCK,” He hissed, eyes flashing at Sirius who continued to look very satisfied with himself.
“Oh, calm down, I didn’t do anything too wild,” He winked, making his way to the kitchen, forcing James to follow him in a huff.
“You need to tell me exactly what you did.”
“I just invited her over – “
“What? Why? She doesn’t even know you!”
“For a little party we are having,” Sirius continued as if James hadn’t just spat a little in his face.
“Party?”
“Just a small thing, it will be fine. I’ve already cleared it with your parents!” He grinned as James went to tackle him.
As it so happens, Sirius (for once) was actually telling the truth and had only invited a small group of people from Hogwarts who lived around London and had gone home for Christmas. Marlene arrived first, holding a bottle of firewhiskey and a wild grin, followed closely by Alice and Frank who brought mince pies, and Remus and Peter who had brought a selection of sweets from their parents. They were sitting in the front living room exploding snap when the doorbell rang. James sprung up, flattening out his shirt pedantically.
“You really weren’t lying Pads,” Remus shook his head at James, “He’s smitten.”
“I told you,” Sirius sang, chuckling as James gave him daggers.
“Ok please, she doesn’t know we are wizards so please tame down the whole… fact that we are wizards.”
“Well said, Prongs,” Remus gave him a small clap.
“Oh, shut it the lot of you.”
“James are you going to get the door?” Euphemia called from the kitchen.
“Yes, mum, I’m going now!”
“Hurry up, she might leave,” Marlene winked at James but he ignored her, moving down the hallway a little too quickly, having to stop himself from slipping into the door in his socks.
Ok, calm down, it’s just a lowkey Christmas hang, nothing to worry about. Chill.
He took a deep breath and plastered a smile on his face, swinging open the door. Y/N was standing in the cold, covered in a large fluffy coat, arms tucked inside to keep warm.
“Finally, I thought you’d forgotten about me,” Y/N smiled up at him and James felt his entire pep talk get thrown out the window as he remembered how her how face scrunched up when she smiled and it made his heart jump. He silently thanked the stars when he heard Sirius slid up beside him.
“You came! James has told us all about you, come in come in,” Sirius elbowed James subtly, and James opened the door wider so she could step inside.
“Looks like you haven’t changed a thing,” Y/N stepped out of her wet boots and looked around the hallway.
“I honestly think I’d be worried if it had, my parents might have gone mad,” James felt himself fall back into the easy rhythm of conversation with Y/N as he led her back into the living room, Sirius on their tails.
“So this is a bunch of people from school, Marlene, Alice, Frank, Remus, Peter, and well you must have met Sirius this afternoon?”
“Yes! So nice to meet you all, and actually put faces to names,” Y/N beamed around at them all, finding a place beside Remus on the floor.
“He talks about us?” Marlene made a loud gasp.
“I’m shocked,” Alice shook her head in mock amazement.
“You all suck,” James hissed at them, quickly returning to his previously plastered smile state, “We were just playing cards. Do you know any good games?”
They continued playing cards, Marlene sneaking them sips of Firewhiskey when they were sure that James’ parents weren’t about to come and drop in another bout of snacks, with only one minor mishap with the cards when Frank slammed too hard on two similar cards resulting in Remus spinning Y/N around as a card exploded.
“What the hell was that noise?” Y/N looked disorientated, blinking vehemently.
“Car backfiring,” Marlene smiled, her eyes still slightly panicked. Frank was mouthing I’m sorry to James as he quickly wiped down the table with his hand.
“Right…” Y/N still looked confused but dropped the topic. Alice yawned loudly, stretching out her back on the soft carpet behind her.
“I’m actually getting super tired, might head off?” She turned to ask Frank, raising an eyebrow at him.
“Yeah, I have to be home before 12 anyway, my parents love Christmas,” He grinned at James, sending him a sly wink. James rolled his eyes, praying that Y/N didn’t see.
“Well if you’re heading, I might… catch a ride,” Marlene held back a laugh as she attempted a muggle phrase.
“Uh, yeah, sounds good,” Alice poked her in the ribs, shooting her a look to shut up. They all stood up, Marlene grabbing the bottle of firewhiskey and putting it back in her bag.
“Sorry boys, and Y/N, you’ll have to live without for the rest of the evening.”
“Fine with me, it tasted way different to anything I’ve ever stolen from my parents,” Y/N laughed, smiling warmly up at Marlene. James wanted to hug her. Or something. Perhaps he was getting delirious.
They waved goodbye, leaving the house before apparating together away, James cringing when he heard the loud crack!
Sirius kicked Remus in the leg and gave Y/N a smile.
“Would you like a hot cocoa? Remus makes the best, I can help him find the ingredients.”
“I don’t think she want –“ James started, feeling increasingly panicked. He hoped his eyes accurately said don’t fucking leave me alone I’m a mess.
“I’d love one!” Y/N cut him off and Sirius’ smile widened.
“Perfect, come on Remus,” He pulled him up, Remus giving James an apologetic smile before following Sirius out of the room. A silence fell over the two of them, and James found himself beginning to stress over whether it was comfortable or if he should interrupt it or if that would make it seem like they couldn’t just hang out in silence anymore and would that be worse?
Thankfully, Y/N spoke first.
“Your friends seem nice,” She was leaning back on her hands, looking up at him with her y/e/c eyes.
“They’re a bit mental, but in a good way,” James chuckled, fixing his hair unconsciously. Y/N laughed loudly when she saw his hand ruffle through his already messy hair.
“You always do that when you’re nervous.”
“I’m no-“
“Oh shush, I’m nervous too… it’s been a while I guess.”
“Yeah… I guess it has.”
“I broke up with Dan – my boyfriend last month,” She avoided his eyes now, leaning forward. James saw her face flush slightly but didn’t say anything, pretending not to notice. “The first thing I wanted to do was come over and lie in your garden and just forget about it but you were at school and we hadn’t really spoken since… well, you know.”
“Yeah,” James replied dumbly, wincing at his lack of conversational aptitude.
“I just, miss you, you know?”
“Yeah, I miss you too. I pulled the best prank on one of our teachers and I just wanted to send you an o- letter, but I didn’t know if, you wanted to hear from me I guess,” He laughed awkwardly, reaching for his hair but stopping himself.
“I’m sorry for running out on you like that it was, well it was my first kiss.”
“Mine too.”
“Really?”
“Yes, really, what do you think I am, Casanova?” James snorted at her and she grinned sheepishly.
“I don’t know, you were always talking about girls from school, especially um, Lily? I just presumed that it was something you did.”
James laughed properly now, a large booming laugh he hadn’t felt in a while. It felt good to talk to her again, even if it was vaguely awkward small talk.
“I honestly am the worst with girls. I think everyone presumes I’m some smooth mover and then doesn’t talk to me.”
“Well obviously, if you’re calling yourself a smooth mover,” She joined in, her face scrunching up as she laughed at him.
“Oh, fuck off,” James threw a pillow at her, but she just laughed harder, blocking her face and letting it fall to the ground.
“I had a massive crush on you, you know.” She spoke quickly, like she’d been holding it in and let it out all in one breath. James stared at her, momentarily stunned.
“So, your answer me kissing you was to splutter and run away?” James teased, unsure whether this was still a casual conversation or not. His heart was beating in his throat and he swallowed hard.
“I was 14, give me a bit of credit, I was having a mini heart attack,” She gave a soft chuckle, but also looked increasingly uncomfortable, swinging back and forwards on the floor.
“You were the one who got me drunk!”
“Ahh so you’re going to blame it on the alcohol huh?” She gave a knowing nod, her lip curling cheekily.
“I will give some credit to the alcohol for giving me certain encouragements.”
“Fair enough.”
A silence fell over them again, but this time James felt calmer, like a weight had been lifted from his chest and allowed him to look her in the eye again.
“I am sorry I didn’t respond how one should have responded,” She cringed at herself as she spoke.
“Ahh, don’t stress about it. Honestly I don’t know what I would have done if you had just sprung that one me either.”
“Mmm,” Y/N simply hummed in response, her head crooked to one side.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“You are the worst fucking liar.”
She huffed at him, tucking a curl behind her ear. James watched her hand carefully. He wondered what it would feel like to do that for her, to graze the edge of her cheek, cup her chin.
“I guess… I guess I was just wondering,” She bit her lip and James resisted the urge to stare at it. “How you would have reacted.”
James felt his whole body stop. He forced himself to nod in reply, suddenly very aware of how alone they were. And how easy it would be to just lean down…
“I guess we’ll never know.”
“Cocoa!” James could have killed Sirius in that exact moment, and by the expression that dawned on Sirius’ face, he could tell.
“Oh shoot, I should really get home, I promised mum I’d help wrap dad’s presents before tomorrow morning!” Y/N had checked her watch and stood quickly, brushing the mince pie crumbs from her skirt. “I’ll, er, see you soon?”
“Yeah, yeah of course, I’ll bring by some treacle tart tomorrow,” James led her to the door and watched as she got home safely. He closed the door and immediately banged his head against it.
Sirius and Remus were staring furiously at him when he returned to the living room and sunk into the couch, feeling more depressed than anyone should on Christmas Eve.
“HOW COULD YOU NOT KISS HER!” Sirius whispered and yelled simultaneously, not wanting to wake up James’ parents.
“It really is poor form, mate,” Remus agreed, sipping on a mug of cocoa.
“I think I’m just going to die here now. Forever. Please leave me to mull in my failures.”
Sirius rolled his eyes and sat up next to James’ face.
“You’re a fucking idiot if you think we’d let you give up this easily.”
In a matter of minutes, the three boys had pulled on boots and jackets over their trackpants and snuck quietly out the front door and around the side of the house. They reached Y/N’s window slowly, careful not to make any noise that would have any neighbour poking their heads out the window and seeing three boys sneaking towards a girls bedroom window in the middle of the night. Not the best look.
“Ok, the lights are still on in her room, she said she was helping wrap presents. This is your moment!”
“This is stalking,” James hissed back, his stomach clenching. This was so so so stupid. And yet, the thought of surprising her, her big toothy smile at the window, and likely the firewhiskey, made him continue to follow Sirius. Remus walked behind, checking to see if anyone was watching.
“We will keep watch, go!” Remus pushed James forward lightly so that he was standing directly in front of it. He didn’t move, just watched the light flicker against the curtains.
“I can’t do this –“
“Shut up!” Sirius and Remus both hissed back. Sirius leaned forward and knocked on the window, immediately hiding on the right side of the wall, Remus on the left.
“You fucking – Y/N! Hey!”
Y/N had pulled back the curtains cautiously, opening them fully when she saw who it was.
“What are you doing here?” She whispered back, eye flickering to her door and then back to James who was now shivering slightly in the snow.
“I… well I was just thinking about what you said and…” He took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. She was examining him closely, expression unreadable. “I was thinking that you never got to see my reaction…”
He wanted to bang his head against her window. Maybe he would pass out and could pretend this was all a sleepwalking episode or something. She continued to watch him for a second before she snorted loudly.
“Fuck, I am so sorry I just thought, I’ll leave,” James closed his eyes for a second, clenching his fists by his sides. He was going to stab Remus and Sirius in their sleeps for ever suggesting this.
It happened so quickly James wasn’t actually sure it did happen. With his eyes still shut, he suddenly felt something soft press slowly against his lips. His eyelids flickered open quickly, just in time to see Y/N pull away, a small smile on his face.
“I… oh.”
“You’re right, that was a reaction worth witnessing.” She looked a little giddy, though James was sure he looked ten times happier.
“I mean I’m definitely happy with it.”
“Good.” She bit her lip again, pausing for a second before continuing, “What are you doing on boxing day?”
“Nothing,” James replied very quickly.
“Pick me up at 10.”
“Ok.”
“Ok.”
“I should probably actually get some sleep tonight.” Y/N giggled, her eyes shining bright against the moonlight.
“Yes, of course, sleep well, Y/N.”
“You too James.”
Y/N looked at him for another moment before closing her blinds with a wave.
James turned around on the spot, moving away from where Y/N would be able to hear him and jumping in the air, a fist in the air.
“Fucking YES.”
“Finally,” Sirius punched him in the arm, flanked by Remus who beamed at him.
“I’m glad this worked, the next thing was storming the place and telling her you were in love with her.”
“Very glad it didn’t come to that.”
“I’m not, I’ve always wanted to storm a house,” Sirius replied pensively, putting an arm around Remus and James, “But I’ll settle for this.”
