thats it. the whole note
there is nothing more to add to a story, like outline or plot or just plain notes on the story
just 'trans lesbian buddie'
#911 abc#buddie#introducing:#random notes from my notes app#if any trans person wants to write this go ahead#here are some ideas#like they realize they're not cis (or straight) later#like they're at the 118 when they actually start thinking about it#so it'll go for the trans experience which i don't really have#(i'm demigirl probably but dont identity with the trans experience)#but i think this story would be interesting if you balance identity (gender sexuality etc) with finding love and loving yourself#which i would love to read#i guess you don't have to be trans to write this#but it might be easier to write about the trans experience if you yourself are trans#i myself might write something post “oh i'm trans” but not the self discovery bit

Here's what's going on in Ohio right now. Heavy stuff ahead.
First, I want to apologize for the misinformation in my original post. I am still learning about legislative processes. To correct: the changes to ODH and OMHAS in regards to gender therapy are not a bill, they are changes in regulations.
This is important because citizens CAN affect rule changes. There is an open commentary period where your submissions get counted and can affect how they write new regulations.
Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, legal advocate, or medical professional. I'm just a dude who had to have it all explained to me.
The first one is Ohio Mental Health and Addiction Services. The rules proposed would make the already prohibitive process of gender transition even harder. In order to diagnose and treat gender dysphoria, a hospital needs to have a board certified psychologist per patient, a board certified endocrinologist familiar with the age group being diagnosed per patient, and a medical ethicist overseeing the hospital's plan for transition. 'Board certified' does not guarantee that the specialist is trans-friendly. It must include a detransition plan. Hospitals would have to report compliance annually. The professionals must have a contractual relationship with the patient, but do not need to offer in-person care. (In this instance, I'll get to that in the next rule change.)
This rule also deems it impermissible to prescribe gender transition care (this includes hormones, puberty blockers, or drugs) for anyone under the age of 21 without the approval of the professionals mentioned and 6 months of therapy.
There is an exception for intersex people, who may have their sex assigned to them without their consent.
The open comment period for this ends January 19 at 5pm.
Send an email to [email protected] with the subject title: "Comments on Gender Transition Care Rules."
The second one is Ohio Department of Health and it repeats a lot of the same as the first one. However, the focus is more on the regulation of doctors and paperwork. Anyone seeking transition will be put into a registry with their name redacted, but demographics like age, agab, specific diagnosis (difficult to achieve with the new regulations mentioned above), and any medications (not just related to gender transition, but any medications at all). Any cessation of care must be reported within 30 days.
This is a lot of paperwork and can overburden hospitals.
That 30 days cessation is important because if a person transfers doctors or if a clinic closes and the paperwork isn't filed, it may count as a 'detransition' when tallying demographics, even if that is not the case.
But what's curious is that the ODH regulations DO require in-person care. The rules are contradictory and vague.
The comment period for this ends Feb 5th.
Send a comment through the ODH website
Here are some important things that were mentioned at the meeting:
This is a good time to be personal with your statements. If this would disrupt your life in any way, please say so. "I fear that" "I believe this" "I worry that"- these are great ways to start your comment. An example one person gave is "I worry that this change in regulations would force me and my daughter to move out of state.'
With that being said, anything that you send to these sites will be public record, so be cautious about what you reveal about yourself in your comment.
If you are in need of help, please reach out to one of these resources:
Trans Ohio Emergency Fund Resource Page
Kaleidoscope Youth Center
If you are in need of legal advice on how to navigate all this, please call
888-LGBT-LAW
This is not everything. There is unfortunately more because Ohio decided to break a record this month with anti-trans motions. But today I'm focusing on things that we can take action on.

How To Get Roughly 50 Notes On An Original Writing Post And Possibly Net A Single Reader
I had someone ask today how I get people to click through and read my writing, and I'm realizing that I've never actually made a post all in one place of everything I do to get a new piece of short fiction off the ground... so here you go! How to get (some) eyes on your work, even if it is not published anywhere of interest and you don't have a marketing team behind you.
The #1 thing is presentation. You want to get people's attention, and once you have it, convince them to keep paying attention. Fortunately, people tend to be both reasonable and predictable, which means all you have to do is follow The Formula.
(original post link)
Here's the formula from the above post broken down:
[giant horizontal title card, preferably animated to catch the eye] OR [a few tasteful parallels, if you're good at parallel posts]
TITLE (linked to where you can read the piece) / wordcount
a quote that is representative of the tone, themes, prose style, and/or the "promise of the premise"
A longer pitch, featuring the overall subject of the piece (transsexual reality TV drama), any comp titles (Detransition, Baby), the main draw (in this case, watching trans people be awful to clueless cis people), major themes (performance), and any other promises you'd like to make (food romance and tigers). You can see that the quote I chose delivers on the promise of trans people intellectually outperforming cis people-- if I were a reader, I would be more likely to trust that the rest of the pitch was accurate based on that assurance.
If you have any positive reviews on your piece, say so. If it has won any awards or contests, say so. If your work has made people cry, Doja Cat - Say So. Always. Generally speaking, more personal and more detailed is better, but keep it to one or two people-- e.g. "when I gave this to my S/O to read he shot milk out of his nose so far I had to go clean under the couch" or "my favorite review of this piece is the reader who said they read it chapter-by-chapter under their covers because they wanted it all to themself." This should be one sentence.
Depending on where the story is published, what you usually promote, etc., it may be worthwhile saying the story is free. Use your judgment on whether the reader can tell.
I also like putting my links at the bottom so someone seeing this on a friend's dash can easily track me around the 'Net. They make me look more professional (I now include a link to my website) and they visually balance the post, in my opinion. This post also happened to have some additional links for bonus content.
This is not as high stakes as it seems. I'm not 100% happy with the pitch here, and I'm not 100% happy with the graphics I've used in other cases. These are some bones that help to sell the piece even when the details aren't as sharp.
REBLOGGING
When is the last time you read something the first time you saw it on your dash? I schedule reblogs of all important posts at least twice over the next 2-3 days, often three times so I can get the morning/afternoon/evening reblog. If your followers tend to be more active at certain times, go ahead and use those. In the past I've intentionally scheduled posts for times I knew more popular mutuals were active, and it has paid off!
I also schedule a reblog for a week and a month and sometimes even a full calendar year out, because I know there is going to be that person who tags the piece '#to read' and instantly forgets about it, only to get excited when they see it weeks later. I am very often that reader. The goal is to catch people when they're ready to read immediately, and this is a game of chance.
Every so often, I go through my entire #writing or #important writing updates or even just #popular tag(s) and queue two dozen posts before shuffling my queue to redistribute matters. This keeps my older work circulating, ensuring new readers get a chance to see older pieces and giving those older pieces another shot at dashboard space. (More on #popular later.) This sounds like a lot, which is why you have to space everything pretty far apart. Fortunately, this is the world's best site for cool things to reblog. I guarantee you that you can find something new you love to post in the meanwhile.
COPING WITH FAME
The post above is what I, a published author, consider "doing well" for a post about my writing on Tumblr. As of October 10th, 2024, over two years after its initial posting and over five years into my posting doggedly about my original fiction, it has 77 notes. More than half (43) are likes. Around half of the reblogs are me promoting my own work or the same very sweet person dutifully reblogging me every time I do so. Glancing through the reblogs now, I know of four people whom I can confirm have read it. Presumably, there are more who are completely silent and have never interacted with the post whatsoever. Genuinely: wahoo!! I am so grateful and happy for the attention and reception of my work.
This is the number one thing I suggest: focus on what you have, and not what you lack. Imagine your post from the perspective of an outsider: even one reblog means you convinced that one person to spread your art! How cool is that! This is also good advice because moping is simply not helpful; it will not get you more reads. (And no, neither will guilting others. Kill that vent post in your head!)
GETTING FOLLOWERS
I don't have that many followers. Of the followers I do have, people are very unpredictably active. When I hear about other people's follower counts I am consistently surprised, because people with half of mine will have fans and haters the likes of which I could not possibly dream of. I follow 500-follower folk who post "I ate a strawberry today" and get 6 asks ranging from "Wow I respect you so much for eating that strawberry" to "I'm going to come to your address at [REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED] and shove bananas down your throat for hating on my favorite fruit."
I point this out to establish three important things. 1) Be grateful for what you have (in my case, 0 anonymous hate asks about fruitpinions), 2) followers have far less impact on interaction than one might think, and 3) followers don't engage with the things you might like them to.
Think about yourself. Are you more likely to reblog a photo of a cat in a pumpkin (alright, here) or something advertising fifteen minutes' worth of writing, which could be, for all you know, bad? Or, for that matter, by a person you should not like to support? Reblogs on generically interesting things are 'safer' (unfortunately) than reblogs on art, and it makes perfect sense that people are skittish around the latter. People don't often reblog things they haven't read, and nobody can reblog every artpost on their dash. Having someone else put it there, however, is incredibly powerful—someone's vetted this post as Worth a Reblog, after all. Having more followers allows for much more of this.
(Followers don't guarantee any one sort of interaction, but having more of them is rarely bad. Rarely.)
Across my most popular posts, one theme becomes very obvious: people like things that apply to them or their blog. I try to post writing advice/opinions/memes every so often, because I know I have a loyal base of writerfolk who like to see that from me, and it's "easier" to reblog than my writing. This is simply the nature of the universe. I used to pretty frequently go into the #writeblr tag and check out what was recently popular so I could figure out how to serve the same base, and from time to time it worked.
You're welcome to examine the list of #writing posts that made it to 100 notes, because each tends to have a notable reason behind its success: a reblog with an exceptionally good review, a contest win, a wordcount that lends itself to pasting the whole thing in one go.
(Posts about my book's release are a notable exception, in part due to Blaze and in part due to my absolutely relentless flogging of their reblog buttons during the ~year of promotion. Also in large part to a dedicated circle of friends who passed the post around nonstop! Thank you so much!!)
A lot of people will tell you to attempt covert reciprocal promotion. You know—reblog a lot of stuff, in the hopes that people will reblog yours. If I could change one thing on Tumblr, it would be this: the culture that quietly encourages disingenously interacting with other people with a secret True Goal in mind. (On the autism website.)
Please, for the love of all that is good and holy, do not do this. If you comment on other people's work, do it because you're happy to do so. When I released Paper Tigress, I went through everybody else who responded to the same prompt and read their work, because I had the day off and I was curious. This has led to Paper Tigress having more comments on Reedsy than one of my contest winners, and even outranking the shortlisted story in the same prompt category. However, this would have been a waste of my time if I did not genuinely enjoy reading the other stories. I read 80+ stories, taking several hours, and gained 30 comments from the venture (half my comments are my responses).
Crucially, I do not promote other writers' work on Tumblr in the hopes of them reading or boosting mine. This is the #1 tip I see thrown around that I viscerally disagree with. While, again, I am grateful for engagement with my work regardless of the context, I do not want people suffering through my work in the hopes that I will promote them. I work a full-time job, and my reading calendar is perpetually overbooked, including with work by my absolute best of friends. Even if it wasn't, I think it would be quite insulting if I were posting works in the hopes that someone would choke it down like medicine. I post what I think is good so that people can read and enjoy it. If you are not enjoying it, I do not want you to feel as though you have to read it. My aim is to give to others what my favorite authors have given me, which is most certainly not A Bad Time Spent Being Dishonest In The Hopes Of Getting Something Back. You have better things to do with your time. Please be honest.
CONCLUSION
Realistically, the readers I have, I gained through being a published author for five years promoting my behind off on Tumblr, the least forgiving social media for promotion. People like it when you have a book they can buy, especially if it has Goodreads reviews that make it look like you have been vetted for them. Many people who follow me have read only Something's Not Right and nothing else. (Many people who follow me have read everything but Something's Not Right.) I have posted dozens of pieces on Tumblr and Wattpad (and AO3). I gained a small number of readers writing and posting fanfiction for the Locked Tomb Tri(?)logy, even though I marketed it absolutely terribly.
Just keep writing. Keep writing, keep posting, and keep making sure everyone who follows you knows you write. And keep writing because you want to. There's no better advice than that.

Not-so sweet thinking…
Whenever you would test your scores aren’t that bad, they’re not beyond shocking ‘A’s’, but they’re decent. You would tend to get B’s or B+ on your test. Sure, there are times when you would get a few A’s. And other times when you would get a C or two, but that’s normally when you aren’t paying attention to the test and allow your mind to wonder.
Your professor would praise you for keeping and semi steady good score and he sometimes question how you do it. You would tell him that you study when that isn’t even the case. It’s been years since you last used notes to study for any test, you found it a waste of time so you stopped.
Now there’s another student in your class who keeps up the perfect straight A’s scores in every test in that class, but unlike you, he would rarely get any praises from the professor. He didn’t mind it at first since it’s doesn’t really bother him. What does bother him is when he found out that you not once have ever studied for any tests in that class. I mean, sure, you take notes in the class; you just don’t use it. It irritates him, so much that he hates the idea of you catching up to him.
No!! He’s worked too hard to be top of his classes, he isn’t going to let someone like you ruin that for him! He hates it! He hates you!! You, on the other hand, don’t pay attention to any of the other students in your class. Why would you? It’s not like you care for them, just the class. So of course you would be unaware of the unseen rivalry between you and the ‘Straight A’ student.
One day in one of his other classes, he had a project that he had to work with one other student. That student just so happens to be your dorm mate. Your dorm mate told him that they had something that they needed to do and gave him the keys to your dorm and told him that he’ll be there in a few hours or less. Of course he doesn’t know that you two are roommates! He sighed and walked up to the dorm and opened it. Once he was in he heard water falling, he thinks that his partner’s dorm mate is probably taking a shower.
He sat down on the couch and waited. While waiting he decided to get on his phone. The shower in the bathroom was turned off. You stepped out of the bathroom and went to your room to go change. Once you were done, you went to the kitchen to make yourself an instant ramen since you were tired and lazy to cook some food. When the ‘Straight A’ student heard the microwave go off he decided to look up to see who the dorm mate was.
To his surprise it was you!! The guy he hates the most!! His blood boiled in anger!! When you turned your head, you saw him and waved at him. He just continues to look at you with a cold stare. You tilt your head a bit and question if he was the project partner of your dorm mate. He doesn’t respond. Like how dare you try to question him! You decided to ask him what is name was.
.
.
.
“HUH?!” He stood up now fully enraged. This startled you a bit and asked him what’s wrong. “What’s wrong?? You mean to tell me you don’t remember who I am?!” He yelled out. You apologized and looked at him for a bit.. ahh no wonder he looked familiar. He’s that one guy that would give you snarky looks or remarks whenever you got a question wrong or whenever he got one right.
“Now you remember? Seriously! What’s with you?? First you don’t study and yet somehow you get decent grades, now you’re trying to act like you don’t even know who I am??” He sighs at your idiocy. That’s when an idea popped up in his head. “Well if you want to forget, all you could’ve done was asked..” He said as he made his way towards you. You questioned him was he was doing, but he doesn’t respond.
✧
“Fuuuuck- you’re so tight. You know that, right? Of course you do, fucking slut..” He says as he pounds into you boycunt roughly yet slowly. You moaned into your pillow as you tighten around him. Right now, he has you face down-ass up. Oh how cute you look under him ♡.
He grunts as he hears you pleading. “Awe.. does the little dumb boy want something? You’re gonna have to speak up, baby.” He smiles sadistically, when you didn’t speak up he stopped. “I can’t hear you, slut.” You babble incoherent words. You were trying to ask him to fuck you faster, but your brain turned into mush from the overstimulation of coming three times and him not even once!! How??
He grabs your chin and pulls you up, your back hitting his chest. “What do you want?” He asks as his hand slides down to your clit and starts rubbing it slowly. You whine and try to buckle your hip. Again, you ‘try to’. When he sees you do this, he tsk and slaps you boycunt, how mean :(! You moaned and squirt a bit at the action.
His eyes widen slightly as he laughs at the display. “Wow, I knew you were a slut, but squirting when I slapped your boycunt? That’s too cute!” He starts moving his hip once again as his hand moved from your chin to your neck. He angles himself to the point where his tip is kissing your cervix beautifully ♡. His lips end up on your neck, giving it kisses and marks that would last for a few days.
He pounds into you faster and harder as he lays your head down and grabs onto your hips. “Haah.. in or out?” He asks. It took you a minute for it to be processed fully. You managed to moan out ‘in’. He nods and after a few more rough thrust he cums in you, you cum along with him. After a few minutes, he pulls out and climbs off the bed.
You on the other hand lay flatly on your bed. A couple minutes passed and he came back with a wet rag and a glass of water. He starts cleaning you up and gives you the glass of water. You thank him and drank it all in one go. When you set the glass cup on top of your nightstand you look at him. Oh how sweetly he’s treating you after making you forget who you were ♡. Which reminded you.. wasn’t he supposed to work on a project with your roommate?
When he was done, you asked him. His face turned slightly red. He was about to speak up, when he heard a buzz. He went to check, and lo and behold. It was your roommate, telling him to just go to his dorm for today since they’re dealing with something. He sighs and looks at you. “Looks like I was embarrassed for nothing.” He turns his phone towards you.
You laughed and laid back down. Maybe getting on the bad side of the ‘Straight A’ student isn’t so bad after all. You get a good dick down, and a sweet aftercare ♡.

Idea: a Timestuck-ish AU in which post-Weirdmaggedon!Stan changes places with his freshly-19-year-old self. Except, in this AU, this would be Stan pre-transitioning.
A good ol' rift appears in front of the porch, taking current!Stan with it, to Ford's absolute horror. Then, the rift re-opens, and out comes a young, broad-shouldered person that Ford instantly recognizes as his former sister, Stephanie.
This young Stan, even with his very defined arm muscles and bulky frame, is still very female-presenting, mostly due to his long hair and light makeup. Ford is taken aback by seeing his brother like this, as he'd grown used to the older version.
After explaining to him the whole deal with time travel, Stan seems to calm down a little. Ford asks him how old he is, since he still looks pretty young and with visible acne beneath the makeup. Stan tells him he's 19, and Ford's heart shatter. Holy shit, he looks so young and at this point he's already been homeless for over a year-
Ford asks him why he still has long hair and makeup, since he was very insistent on cutting it as soon as he got out of the house (he fondly remembers the moment Stan told him he wanted to look like a boy, and how they lied to their parents and said Steph's hair got caught in the lawnmower, even though it was Ford who helped him cut it). Stan simply replies that it gets him more tips when he looks like a girl. Ford doesn't dare to ask any further.
I think Stan would lie to the kids when they ask who the new girl is. Stan gets ahead of his brother, introduces himself as Steph and says she was just walking down the street when a bright light shone in her face and brought her here, but I wouldn't worry, whoever this old dude is, he seems to know what he's talking about. Ford asks him why he lied to them, since they're family, but Stan replies that if they didn't recognize him like this, they probably don't know he's trans, and they don't need to know.
The lie holds up for the most part, until Dipper asks Ford if Steph is actually grunkle Stan. Ford asks him why he thinks that, and Dipper confesses that Stan told him he was trans last summer, so he would feel better for coming out as a trans guy too. Ford is left speechless, and they quickly go to Stan to tell him he doesn't need to play pretend anymore.
I have nothing else on this AU tbh this scene just popped into my mind and I had to write it down :')

#2 for the book worm ask game!
(ask game)
2. Favorite fantasy book(s).
(Eeeeexcellent, I do love fantasy books. Though how I'm gonna narrow it to only a few I've got no idea. Okay. I'm going to remove the very obvious choices like Lord of the Rings (though it is one of my faves)).
---

Monstrous Regiment. I love the entire Discworld series (especially The Witches) but I've also got a huge soft spot in my heart for Terry Pratchett's take on 'a girl dresses like a boy to go to war' (and thinks of everything except some spare socks in- erm... the right place). Along with Polly, the squad consists of a vampire, a troll, an Igor, a religious fanatic and two very, very close "friends" (and yes, the official summary put the friends in quotes too). And everyone has their own secret.
I love basically everything about this book and I can't tell you guys any of it because it would spoil all the fun.
The Goblin Emperor. This one's a story filled with light. Maia the half goblin son of the elven Emperor was never supposed to take the throne (or to ever even be at court. because racism). And then everyone ahead of him dies in a single "accident" and suddenly he's the new Emperor. Maia is a good person, and a kind one, and despite everything that gets thrown at him he keeps hold of that understanding of right and wrong and refuses to bend.
(I have to mention that the language of the writing is kinda hard to get into in the beginning, and the characters's have very complicated and long names, but once you get into it it really did enhance the story for me).
Good Omens. An Angel and a Demon try to stop the apocalypse and instead lose the Antichrist. I've loved that book for like a decade now and if I don't put it on a list of my faves that list would be a lie.

The King of Attolia. Third in The Queen's Thief series and my favorite one out of all of them. I've always enjoyed Outsider POV in fics. And here is a book that just... proves why. We've got Eugenides and Irene, the Thief and the Queen, and we know them from the two previous books. And adore them. But the story isn't from their POV, it's from the POV of Costis, a Queen's guard who's suddenly gotten assigned to the King. The useless, weak, undeserving king that as far as Costis is concerned doesn't deserve to even kiss the Queen's boots. And it's hilarious to read the story from the eyes of someone who knows so much less than us. And so satisfying, as he begins to understand.
(I recommend the whole series and am personally glad to have read them in the published order but Megan Whalen Turner has stated that she wrote them in a way that allows you to jump in at any point you want).
The Raven Tower. The story is from the viewpoint of a sentient, omniscient rock whose name is Strength and Patience of the Hill and it is the GREATEST THING EVER. The gods are real and must be very careful with their words, because if they speak a lie the reality will alter to make that lie the truth but if the lie is bigger than the power of the god... well. Inspired by Hamlet.
(the book also has a trans man as the main character; the other main character? The sentient rock is the narrator but the largest part of the story focuses on Eolo).
A Natural History of Dragons. The first book from The Memoirs of Lady Trent (and honestly it would probably be more honest to say that every single book from this series fits the category of fave but I'm putting up the first here because this isn't a series where you should skip ahead). The book focuses on the life of Isabella as narrated by her older self. This is the story how a Scirland lady bucked all tradition and became a world renowned expert on the Natural History of Dragons.
(this series has a piece of my heart and always will).
---
(and finally, here's some more of my favorite fantasy books that I also adore and would totally ramble about but I got tired of typing).

Heya, got a question about cybersecurity meetups. Do you think folks would be cool with a rando showing up because they're curious and like learning new stuff, especially for writing? And also because internet privacy is super important rn and there's no good books or written sources I can find on hacking, the dark web, etc; let alone digestible to somebody who knows what a directory is and how to use command line and not much more.
Also. I know it's gonna vary per location, so if you can't speak for all of 'em, I get it. Are these kinds of spaces like 2600 and Defcon queer friendly? Or I guess what I'm asking is are they notorious a place queer people should avoid. I'm non-binary and don't rly pass as remotely normal or straight, and I have nobody to go with me :|
Thank you!
Meetups that are publicly listed are very cool about randos showing up to learn new stuff and talk to weird people. Most meetups tend to be about 5 parts socializing and 1 part "tech activity" like a talk or a demo if they have a tech activity at all, so you're mostly just going to be meeting people and talking to them about themselves.
I will say, if you show up specifically saying "i'm a writer and i'm here to learn about stuff for writing" you're probably going to get some trolling - that's pretty common and a lot of meetups do have to deal with stuff like journalists periodically showing up to get the inside scoop about the scary hackers and that usually gets some fairly mean-spirited teasing directed at them.
So it's better to show up because you want to learn generally. People don't like being used as reference material during their socializing; they're there to hang out and talk to people with similar interests, so ask them about their interests. You can just say you're new to the scene and you heard about hacker meetups online and wanted to learn more.
If you want to do something to pregame and learn a bit about hacking ahead of time you may want to try hackthissite.org, check out 2600 magazine, or look on the DefCon forums to see what's going on in your local DC Groups. There are some good books about hacking; I like The Cuckoo's Egg and am asking anyone with good books or memoirs about hacking to chime in in the notes.
I will say, asking about the darkweb specifically might get you some eyerolls because it's something that sounds a lot scarier and more intimidating to most people than it actually is. You can get on the darkweb now. You can do it on your phone. Here's a very basic get-started guide. I don't think it's necessary to use a VPN to use Tor (most guides recommend it and then link to pages full of affiliate links for VPNs), and here's the Tor user manual to get started if you want to. Be careful, and if you're planning on doing anything that requires actual anonymity do a LOT more research before you follow the advice in any guide, but yeah pretty much everybody with an internet connection can get access to the darkweb in about twenty minutes. It's just websites that you need to use a slightly different set of tools to navigate to (granted, the content of the websites might be horrifying, so. Again. Be careful.)
Anyway moving on:
Defcon has had Queercon (a queer party for queer hackers) as a part of the con for at like twenty years and I know many queer and trans people who are part of the scene. And there are a lot of trans folks who I know who are volunteers at defcon and help to run hackerspaces and who volunteer and attend and run all manner of cons. I can't speak for your local group, but I've found that hackers in generally are more tolerant of a *lot* of things than the broader population is (they are weird people who engage in a hobby or who engage in work that is often technically criminal - they don't have a lot of room to judge and the more sensible ones among them know that).
HOWEVER I have personally had problems with defcon the conference specifically about harassment and infosec does lag behind other parts of the tech sector in participation from women. Defcon is working on it and i know their current head of conference security is very serious about ensuring that it's a welcoming space for people and that if people DO have problems at the con it is handled in a serious, sensitive way. (Legitimately, he's a good dude) I just. I don't go to defcon. There's more info in my pinned post. That conference is burned for me.
BUT there are a lot of other conferences, big and small, and there are a lot of local groups to look into. You'll have to get to know your local scene, but I'd bet that if one part of your local scene is unwelcoming that other parts are more open.

hey. i think i'm going through a phase of self-hatred and… I don't know, of believing I'm not capable of anything. would you have any tips or books that approach this from an AFAB/trans perspective so I can cope? (it's not that I hate myself for being trans. I just have insecurities, anxieties and I don't know what to do to stop most things from seeming so discouraging, for lack of a better word.)
I'm sorry you're having a hard time! I don't have any book recommendations, and I'm not exactly an expert, but:
Where possible, try to focus on what you enjoy about the process of an action instead of worrying about the end result. A lot of anxiety comes from privileging a hypothetical future version of yourself ahead of the person you are in the moment, and while it's still good to have goals and aspirations for the future, that doesn't render your present self irrelevant, because that's who you have to be to achieve them.
To give a personal example: late last year, I was really disappointed with how little reading I'd managed to get done in 2023 particularly, but also over the pandemic. I'd bought all these awesome books that I really wanted to read, but I never seemed to get around to starting most of them, and meanwhile, I was spending hours of my life mindlessly doomscrolling Twitter and TikTok, which regardless of anything else is a really good way to depress yourself about the state of the world. So I sat down and thought about it, and I realized that the problem was how much pressure I was putting on myself about reading. I wanted so badly to finish books that I was psyching myself out of starting them in the first place, because each choice had to be Perfect, lest I pick the wrong book at the wrong time and waste twenty minutes or an hour or three reading something I might later set aside. And because I'd subconsciously set the stakes for starting a book so much higher than they needed to be, I'd end up dithering and scrolling social media to delay having to make a high-pressure choice at all.
In other words: I'd become so concerned about Future Foz's hypothetical dislike of a book I was yet to start reading that Present Foz would be scared to start it in the first place. I was forever privileging a version of myself that didn't exist and likely never would over the person I was now, and it was making me wildly unhappy, because it felt like I was failing at something I loved.
So my single New Years' Resolution became: to value myself and my time in the moment. If I catch myself scrolling for too long, I ask myself: is there literally anything else I'd rather be doing right now? Could I start a TV show, or a book, or a game, or write something, or message a friend, or have a bath? It doesn't matter if the activity goes anywhere long term; what matters is that I inevitably get more pleasure out of doing something than not. My time now matters, because I matter.
And suddenly, just from that one change? For the first time in I couldn't even say how long, I've read something every single day this year. In the whole of 2023, I read just 67 books; it's now the 30th of March 2024, and I've already finished 33. By giving myself permission to start things without the pressure to finish them, I'm suddenly finishing way more than when I was telling myself I had to finish everything, and I am vastly happier for it.
Is the world still a burning hellscape that daily makes me want to yeet a solid 80% of elected politicians globally into the sun? Yes. Am I still working on self-improvement in other areas of my life? Yes. Is it magically any easier being trans and queer in the current moment? No. But it helps to focus on who I am now, in this hour, in this minute, instead of worrying so much about whether some future version of me will think I spent this time badly that I don't use it for anything at all.
I don't know if this is helpful to your situation, and if it's not, I apologize for rambling. But it's a little change I've made lately that's helped me a lot, and I hope it might help you, too.

People are getting worried about the potential wank over this in the replies, but along with this being a good point, I think it's one example of a broader problem with "own voices" where it really JUST means the writer is of the same broad demographic group as the character, not necessarily that the writer is writing their own experiences. And yet minoritized writers are still subject to all the same pressures about what kinds of stories about marginalized people Sell to "wider" (and we know in the case of stuff about race this means "whiter," lol) audiences. So for instance, it's the American Fiction problem still where black authors for instance are expected to write to a certain stereotype about urban poor black experiences even when they come from middle class backgrounds, for instance... or actually, I think people are starting to recognize the problems with that, but we're still seeing stuff like that for other demographic groups. Latine stories have to be about recent immigrants who still primarily speak Spanish (and so you get something like Cemetery Boys where while the writer is Latine, it's really really reallllly obvious to anyone with any Spanish knowledge that they did not grow up in the kind of primarily-Spanish-speaking community they're portraying there, it isn't really THEIR voice). Stories about Asian people in Asia sell better than diaspora stories. Gay and bi and especially trans stories that aren't specifically marketed as romance are still often expected to have some element of triumphing over homophobia or transphobia as diversity and as a major part of the character's struggle and in a stereotyped way. Native writers are expected to do something similar with Native stories. Just to give a few examples.
It's not because marginalized writers should have to write autobiography. Let's not flip it to the opposite end of things. But if you are going to market it on the strength of "own voices" which implies writers telling stories that are similar to their own life experiences, maybe then actually let them do that and don't punish them for having a life experience and a "story to tell" that doesn't fit into the mold of what we think minoritized writers "should" be writing.
If a middle-class or upper-class POC wants to write a story about someone of their same ethnic/racial background who is poor and suffering like sure go ahead, but should it really be considered own voice, or that they're writing a story that while it might be more informed by personal experiences with racism, is still going to require a lot of research similar to what someone of a different ethnic background would do? And so it's not really any more Own Voice than say someone of English descent writing about Queen Victoria?

Could you please do Hifumi Yamada X Trans-boy!Reader? (☁️) ^^
☁️Hifumi Yamada x Trans-Male Reader☁️
It all started at none other than an anime con, the breeding ground for artists, fanfic writers, merch creators, and anime fans alike.
Really though, the only reason you were at this particular con today was because your friend had begged you to come with them... Spouting some nonsense like you need to get out more and be "socialized", whatever that meant. So, being the great friend you are, you went with them begrudgingly and to your surprise, it was actually pretty fun! Whether you watch anime religiously, are only a casual enjoyer, or flat-out don't like it, you could still find fun in every corner of that place, there is always something for you to do.
As cons go though, you eventually lose your friend in the sea of people. You also wanted to leave soon, which required you to find them. They weren't answering your texts nor were they picking up your calls so you had to just walk around mindlessly, hoping to spot them. The best timewaster, I'm sure.
Walking around the artist alley was at least some alleviation from your growing headache as you got to see lots of cool artists! While walking though, you began to notice a rather large line of people lining up at a singular booth... In fact, the line was so large that you honestly had trouble figuring out what it was they were lining up for, only getting any information from passing conversations about some writing and a "Princess Piggles." You had to admit though, you were curious, so with time to kill until your friend answers you and some spare cash in your pocket, you make your way back to the end of the line to hopefully get a glimpse at what this particular artist was selling.
...And boy, what a long line that was. You had almost given up on three separate occasions only to just stay in line after figuring that you were too deep into it to leave now. It took a solid hour to finally make it to the front and apparently, you were the last person to do so as no one was behind you. Finally being able to see what you were probably paying for, you looked ahead and saw a booth with a ton of different books stacked on it, presumably a manga or something of the sort. Behind that booth though was a man with brown hair, glasses, chubby, and wearing a shirt with a pink-haired anime girl on it.
"Welcome to the one and only booth of the famous Alpha and Omega! Or Hifumi Yamada if you prefer, how many editions of my fanfic, "Princess Piggles and the Quest for the Crown" will you be buying today?" "...Oh, that's what this is?" "....Of course that's what this is! Are you mocking my work or something!?"
Yeah, it took a moment for you to even process the fact that he was selling fanfiction in an artist alley and the fact that, that many people wanted to buy it. No disrespect to the guy, but you have never heard of a fanfic creator becoming that popular... It just took you off guard. Still, keeping your word and getting past all the initial confusion from both you and Hifumi, you did end up buying one of the copies. You even got to talking with Hifumi (no, you will not be calling him the alpha and the omega for your own sanity) and he honestly did seem to be too bad after you cleared up the misconception from earlier.
Admittedly, he was still a bit skeptical of your intentions but that's just how he is with everyone, so there's no true malice behind it.
Hifumi didn't think too much of you at first, it was nice talking to someone who wasn't the five online friends he regularly chats to about Princess Piggles and other anime, but it wasn't like you automatically became besties or anything.
Not to mention, this was just one meeting at a con and you both didn't exchange socials, so it's unlikely you'll meet again...
Yeah, unlikely doesn't mean it won't actually happen. It was no later than a few weeks later when you two met up again at another con. And then you saw him at another one and another one... You both went to a lot of cons apparently.
You two didn't go up to each other outside of the booth, but you would go up to his booth and buy whatever new edition of his fanfic was out as well as chat for a bit.
You kind of felt like a regular customer with how often you were seeing and buying his stuff. Though truth be told, you were more there just to chat with the guy since, well, why not? It's not often you keep meeting up with the same person at different cons completely unplanned, it had to mean something right?
Hifumi also didn't mind the company, you both actually got to know each other a little better and learned things about each other's personal lives. You learned he had a sister, that he occasionally likes karaoke, he likes diet coke, etc.
Gonna be honest, Hifumi was completely oblivious to the signs that you were trans at first...
He's never had many friends to begin with, much less female or trans ones, so any sign that could have given you away is completely lost on him. The only thing that he noticed was that you were a little more tomboyish than the usual girls he runs into, but even that's subjective with each girl.
Your acquaintanceship had been growing pretty rapidly ever since you two first met and a friendship was quickly blooming.
The catalyst for it of course is the fact that you two finally decided to exchange numbers!
Outside of cons, you would text each other pretty frequently between school, work, and what have you. Hifumi was pretty great at making you laugh, not to mention his seamlessly endless supply of memes he had for every occasion, it wasn't hard to start actively seeking out his presence through the phone.
He would give you sneak peeks on new editions of his fanfics and you'd give him whatever critiques you could find on the previous ones, which there weren't that many of considering he was a really good writer.
You did try to lean into the fact that you were trans a few times in conversations, mainly because it was giving you bad dysphoria being referred to as Miss and other feminine attributes all the time...
He still didn't quite pick it up though.
Though, if you tell him to stop calling you miss, he will stop! So, it's a small victory.
A big perk of having Hifumi as a friend is that he will draw for you, be it your OC's or just something from your favorite shows, movies, games, etc., he loves surprising you with them.
While being his friend, please also do the world a small favor and try to make him calm down a bit... Especially his attitude towards women.
The world thanks you for your service.
He will be yapping to you about Princess Piggles, no questions asked. He also makes fun of you for not being as invested in it as he is, but it's all in good fun.
Please feed him some actual food, Hifumi hasn't eaten anything other than snacks and junk for the past few years, he needs this-
If you ever ask Hifumi if you can burrow his clothes (because they are more oversized and more masculine than what your wardrobe), it's gonna be a hesitant yes, not because there's a problem with you burrowing them but because he only has so many clothes that actually fit him... He really hates clothes shopping.
Hifumi's talent, no matter what others might say, is impressive.
He brings the worlds he loves to real life, spreading the joys of such creations to anyone who will listen. Although entertainment is not something incredibly useful like medicine or martial arts, it is still a pillar in people's lives.
He wishes more people would realize that...
Weirdly enough, Hifumi, I headcanon Hifumi to be a germaphobe. He will ask you to sanitize your hands anytime you come over and wash them at least five more times before touching anything.
Hifumi is also not judgy, like, at all. He might be in denial of most things, but he is very aware that others find his talent and passions weird so he never really feels like he has room to judge anyone else.
There comes a point in your friendship when Hifumi actually does start to pick up on the clues that you're trans and it surprises him that it took this long for him to realize anything- Although he doesn't exactly know you trans, he does find it weird how often you cover your body up, how you try hard to speak in a more monotone voice, the way you avoided mirrors, all of these signs that started to concern him.
He didn't want to push you to talk to him about it, he valued your friendship too much to lose it by him being stupid. (He might also have a teeny tiny crush on you but whattt-)
Hifumi Yamada is not that impatient..., but god is it hard to not blurt out all his questions the more stuff he notices. Look, he does feel bad, but also, he really wants to know, like, now! :'(
That's why when you eventually come out to him, his first reaction is a sigh of relief... He is now in the know. Don't worry though, cause his second reaction is to be immensely supportive, scooping you into a hug and saying whatever he thinks sounds right in the moment. He really just wants you to be you and be comfortable being you with him, please know he cares about you so much and you're welcome to tell him anything!
With coming out, out of the way, Hifumi's behavior and actions don't actually change much from before coming out- He's never treated you one way or the other before, so why start now? He does try to be considerate of things that might give you dysphoria though and he will give you gender-affirming items like binders if need be. Trust him, his fanfics have made quite the market so he's not afraid to spend a couple bucks on you.
The transphobes better beware too, cause Hifumi will go after them in online and real life! No transphobe will be getting passed him, not to you or any other trans person he sees getting harrassed.
You two have a ton of over-the-phone movie nights together when either of you for whatever reason can't go over to the other house. The only thing is though that Hifumi will be picking the most obscure anime movies to watch or something with Princess Piggles, so you might be suffering through it all the whole time.
Hifumi absolutely hates horror since he gets freaked out quite easily, so horror movies, games, and what have you are all banned.
Now, Hifumi has had a... small crush on you for quite a while now. (Who's he kidding? Dude is literally head over heels for you.)
But he's always been kind of in denial about it since you are friends and he rather die than lose his one irl friend. Plus, there's no way on earth you would like someone like him... He's well aware of how he is and he sees no reason for you to like him.
Hifumi is in pretty good denial about his feelings towards you due to his own insecurities and the risk of jeopardizing your relationship over something that will totally go away in like a week. But as time passes and his feelings just get stronger and stronger instead of disappearing like he wished they would, he knew he was eventually gonna crack... He was not good with these kinds of things and it was pretty clear to you that something was bothering him every time you came over. It was written all over his face... and his sweaty palms.
He tries to keep his cool anytime he's around you, he talks about Princess Piggles and all his other interests, but suddenly, mid-way through talking, none of his passions seem so interesting when you are in front of him...
God, he can't believe he's allowing himself to love someone that isn't 2D... May Princess Piggles forgive him for this but he can't keep in his love for you any longer.
When he finally feels ready to confess after months of staying in this awkward crush phase, he is determined to confess in the most formal, romantic way he can think of.
He gets you both a reservation at a nice restaurant, telling you it was just to celebrate your friendiversary (which conveniently was coming up,) and he gets everything prepared for that day. He rents himself a nice tux, buys flowers, and tries his best to emotionally prepare himself so he doesn't break down through dinner from his nerves.
It was going to be perfect, he's seen countless anime scenes where this very thing happens, surely it won't be that much different in real life, right?
On a cool Sunday night, you both meet up at said restaurant all dressed up and fancy, ready to have a nice time. While walking in with Hifumi and sitting at a table, it wasn't hard to see that something was bothering him... You didn't mention it right then, but he was jittery and nervous throughout the whole meal, completely unlike himself. Sure, he was talking and joking like normal, but there was always this tension coming from him that made you raise an eyebrow... Hifumi himself wasn't feeling great about it either, mentally cursing himself for still being so nervous even after all those hours spent preparing for this very moment. It didn't help that he was kind of overstimulated at the moment with all the bright lights, his stuffy tux, the new foods, and everything else that was making this night a lot harder than he wanted it to be.
Hifumi practically ran out of his seat once dinner was over and he paid the bill, saying that there's this nice scenic spot he wants to take you to. Said spot being a gorgeous, secluded spot, right along the beach, the moonlight reflecting off the water's surface finally get the chance to ask Hifumi what was wrong, a question that had been on your mind ever since you saw him. Hifumi took a deep breath... and finally was able to tell you how he felt!
Except that you couldn't understand a word he said due to how fast he was speaking- It took a few more times of him saying the same thing over and over for him to finally slow down and let the words, "I love you!" Leave his mouth.
His heart was pounding as his ears rang, the silence between you two making him really want to take everything he just said back even if he knew he couldn't...
He's glad for that as well since not even a second later after that thought passed through his mind, you accepted his confession. You accepted him.
Hifumi can be kind of touchy when in a relationship since he's been so touch-starved all his life, he needs to make up for all that lost time!
One of the biggest changes in his life since getting into a relationship with you is the fact that his Princess Piggles obsession has simmered down drastically-
Also, he's a lot more active and social now since you two go out a lot on dates or just hang out. However, his favorite moments are still the ones where you two just laze about watching movies at home.
He pretty much kisses the ground you walk on, no joke. Hifumi just never thought real love would ever come to him, much less with someone who is 3D, so he wants to make sure he treats you right!
He is still a very active supporter of your identity, arguably even more so now that he's in a relationship with you. He is always staying informed with the trans community and still tries his best to make you comfortable wherever you both are.
Seriously, Hifumi does not understand transphobes... Like, how can you hate something that doesn't even mildly affect you or hurt anyone?? He's so confused.
Hifumi could really care less if you want to fully transition or not, whatever you want to do is none of his business and he supports whatever route you take. If you do wish to medically transition though, he will be paying for your surgeries and medications since he wants to help out in any way he can. :)
He loves getting you any kind of trans pride items that he can find, like pins and shirts. He also gets some ally pins pins for himself.
Please let him drag you to every con he goes to, he needs your support while he talks to so many people who don't know Princess Piggles like he does! :'(
He also will take breaks with you though and go around actually exploring the con and probably spending way too much money on other stalls at the artist alley-
Whenever he's doing art warmups, his favorite thing to sketch out is you.

A/N: I am not going to lie, I was surprised to see a request for Hifumi since people usually tend to dislike him. I quite enjoyed writing this though, he deserves some more attention. :)

Tumblr ate the ask before I could get to it, but here are my two cents on why viewing a transfem-coded character as Not That is Not a neutral act. Other people have worded this better than me, but I can't find their posts, so my janky explanation will have to do. Discourse post ahead, check the tags and scroll away if any of the things I mention will make you upset, let's go
I recognize that a person's beliefs regarding fiction aren't 1:1 with reality; like, someone who writes about murder is 99.99% likely to not actually be a murderer. But there are times that beliefs regarding fiction and reality do come a little closer together, and this is most present when it comes to prejudices.
An example I can think of, of the overlap between these beliefs, is... If someone uses racist stereotypes when writing a character of a certain race, it's fairly likely that they also hold this belief about that race in real life. Reading that racist depiction, too, can affect real life people's thoughts. Because marginalized people are already subject to a lot of stereotypes by other sources in real life, the presence of those stereotypes in fiction reinforces a belief that the reader has already heard. Since the reader presumably enjoys and respects what they're reading, the thought "Oh, the author thinks x race is like this too, maybe there's merit to that belief." can reasonably follow. And thus, their opinion of x race is worsened, and this opinion can then influence their actions towards actual real life people of that race.
It's also worth noting that the person being stereotyped will feel hurt by the stereotype. If a person of x race sees how unkindly this person writes about someone like them, they're obviously not going to feel excellent about that.
That was a lot of talk that didn't relate to transgenderism, for a post that is about transgenderism, so now here's the part about transgenderism.
Misgendering and degendering are, as we know, tragically very prevalent in the world. Many folks do not like trans people, and invalidate their identity. From what I've seen and heard, transfems are especially affected by this. The majority of transfem people I know have spoken about how they're often incorrectly they/themmed by people around them, even if these people are aware that they/them isn't in that person's pronoun set. More well-known than this degendering is aggressive misgendering. "That's a man in a dress", "that's a pervert who wants to peep in women's bathrooms", etc etc. A lot of people in the world do Not want to recognize trans women as women. They will do anything other than recognize trans women as women, from comparatively small microaggressions to violent aggression-aggressions.
Basically, "trans women aren't women" is a popular prejudice. So, when someone says "Despite the subtext that categorizes this character as a trans woman, that is not a trans woman.", the "Oh, the person I respect believes in this popular thing? Maybe there's merit to it, then" response can happen. And then those people become more likely to be biased against trans women in real life.
The feelings aspect also comes in here. Transfem Mizuki fans don't feel very good when people are like "this character who's just like you isn't a woman."
With the main point out of the way, now I'm going to reply to the other parts of the ask! Which I'm hoping I'm remembering right. Sorry if you didn't ask me these things at all.
How is headcanoning a trans character as Not That any different from headcanoning a cis character as Not That?
I think the difference is that there isn't a violent stereotype being reinforced. That's not to say that stereotypes aren't reinforced when cis characters are headcanoned as trans; they definitely do exist. People love to look at canonically-cis-girl characters with short hair or masc clothing and say "that character is transmasc."
But! Stereotypes like that, like "boys have short hair", don't really further the existence of hate. I'm not saying they're perfectly pure and good stereotypes!! Obviously there are girls with short hair who get harassed over looking masculine. But I can't say that that form of harassment is anywhere near the severity of the harassment marginalized groups face.
Why did you start shit with someone on the internet? What do you gain from that?
If you believe I did a Bad Thing by starting shit, I'm not going to disagree with that! Part of why I instigated that was just that I was mad. That's definitely nowhere near the Top 10 Most Mature Things I've Done In My Life.
I would also like to defend myself a little bit, though! I feel like, by making that piece, that artist was entering a conversation. I was entering the same conversation, albeit viciously. I think entering a conversation means opening yourself to other viewpoints, even if people who hold them are mean about it. If someone decides to be harsh to me about what I said, I obviously won't enjoy it, but I will recognize that I signed up for it.
As for what I gain from that: Lowering the artist's reach, hopefully. If people rescind their internet clout, or analyze that piece and notice that it supports something they might not want to (refer to how large the trans flag is on her as opposed to the "crossdresser" note, which is so small that it escaped some viewers' notice), then it won't go quite as far in the algorithm. And the prejudice present in the work won't get as many eyes. Maybe it will have slightly less of an effect on the real world!

Rant ahead, prolly gonna delete later
TW: gender dysphoria, fetishization of trans men in fanfiction
Idk if it’s just me but I’m a trans guy who typically won’t touch “trans male [character]” smut fics with a ten foot pole. I’ve found a handful that are respectfully written, but for the most part they make me feel so fucking uncomfortable. It’s like the (non-trans) writers don’t see trans men as real men. There’s frequent untagged feminization, excessively feminine terms, and an alarming number of pregnancy fics. I get that some people like these things, and I respect that, but that’s pretty much ALL that’s out there. It’s like they want to write for a m/m ship but only want to write m/f smut, so they slap “trans” on there. It’s so blatantly obvious that the majority of these writers have never done a drop of research on what it means to be trans masc, much less MET a trans masc person irl.
Not only that, complaining about it makes YOU the bad guy. I made a post on the AO3 subreddit back when I first joined it (aka before I knew better) just kind of venting about the way trans characters are written in fics. I was a lot more gentle and understanding about it than I’m being here btw. And instantly the post got flooded with comments saying that “just because you don’t like it doesn’t mean other people don’t.” Or “my roommate’s boyfriend’s brother is trans and he doesn’t care about that stuff.” Or that people are free to write whatever they want and if I don’t like it I shouldn’t be reading it. (My favorite one was “I’m cis but I don’t see an issue”) I ended up deleting the post.
Back in February there was this fic I read that did all that same shit and it pissed me off. Untagged feminization, afab language, the whole shebang. And I KNOW that author wouldn’t have treated the character that way if they were writing a cis man. For legal reasons, this comment was not written by me, but it was deleted by the author right away with no response.
I blocked them and moved on.
I guess what brought all these emotions back was a post I saw where someone was complaining about other cultures being written in an accidentally offensive way in fics. The same people who tore down my post (and others like it) were suddenly all into the idea of respecting the cultures you write, doing research on them, etc. How is trans culture any different? Why is it “um actually some trans guys like being feminized” but then “these cultural stereotypes are offensive and the author should do better?”
Not too long ago, I decided to start writing trans characters in fics. It was really tough for me, since I had to battle a lot of my own dysphoria, but I felt like it was worth it if it meant there was just one more fic out there to make trans people feel seen and respected. Being seen as a real man and being trans should not be mutually exclusive. It’s possible to be both. And it’s painfully obvious when the writer doesn’t see it like that.
If you’re trans and you feel the same way about all this, lmk. Sometimes I feel like I really am the unreasonable one and that I’m all alone here and it really fucks with my head.
And if you’re cis and wanting to write trans characters, I implore you to learn about us first. Trans people are not a shortcut to writing m/f smut. They have their own unique experience of the world that needs to be taken into account if you’re going to write them respectfully. Listen to trans voices. Please.

Hello!hope ur having a good day :) <33
I was wondering if u wanted to share some trans reg hc, could be overall or like the boxing au one, or anything rly.
Like who was the first person he came out to, how/when did he realise, how does he deal with dysphoria- what gives him dysphoria/euphoria, and maybe how would it translate into like relationship and sexlife, would he be able to go ahead without any/much dysphoria, or would he have to have sex a ‘specific way(?? Idk??)’ to make it work?
A lot of question I know, and u don’t have to answer if it makes u uncomfortable or anything, I just wanted to hear more about your headcanons about this.
//a trans guy who is obsessed with trans reg, and ur writing
hi darling!! i have today off so i am . in fact . having a great day <3 i hope yours is treating u kindly too!!
and ofc i want to!! i'm gonna do it boxer au based, since reg's trans experience isn't the same in every story!! and don't worry, i'm happy to answer ur questions!! it doesn't make me uncomfy in the slightest, trans reg is very special to me too for many reasons and i loveeee talking about him <3
the first person he came out to was sirius!! this is my Truth almost always no matter the fic. it changes sometimes, if he takes longer to realise and he and sirius have a complicated relationship but !! in the boxer au they get along great and they're very close, so reg told sirius first!!
sirius already had his suspicions tho, and they had a lot of long deep convos about gender. he helped reg figure himself out and supported him every step of the way
in the boxer au, he realised quite young!! he was never completely comfortable in his own body, but since he was a very awkward and . odd . kid everyone attributed it to reg just not being 'normal' in general. when puberty hit it got worse tho, and even tho everyone told him it'd pass and that puberty wasn't supposed to feel good or fun, reg knew there was something else
sirius also noticed there was something going on with his brother, so he tried to help him in every way he could. he lent him his clothes whenever reg asked (even tho it was always kind of begrudgingly), convinced their parents to allow him to wear his hair short, bought him oversized clothes and called him by his nickname and never his actual name
but i think the moment it actually hit reg was when he got mistaken by a boy one time he got out of school and went to his father's office to wait for him. the receptionist assumed he was sirius, and it finally clicked for him
he didn't tell sirius immediately tho. he researched a lot first, almost obsessively, and he doubted himself all of the time, having these moments in which . he was afraid he was actually somehow making it all up in his mind
reg was very scared of change, and this was a very big One. he knew sirius would support him no matter what, but there's always fear yk?? and there was also the matter of his parents. he was absolutely terrified
but he ended up blurting it out one night he and sirius stayed up late in secret. sirius talked to him about this one boy he was crushing into, and came out to him. and reg came out to him in return!! there were a lot of hugs and a lot of tears (they pretended this never happened the next morning)
sirius was a man on a mission after this. he helped him browse names and started using the correct pronouns, always getting so incredibly upset when he slipped at the beginning. reg found it very endearing, and assured him it was fine bc it was understandably gonna take them both some time
reg didn't have many close friends back then, so he didn't really come out to anyone in school, and he graduated with only sirius knowing the truth
those years were hard ngl, and reg struggled A Lot, but having sirius on his side made the whole thing . slightly more bearable . sometimes not even that was enough but reg appreciated it immensely
how he deals with dysphoria has changed over time!! he relied a lot on the internet when he was younger, and on his brother too, but there was only so much sirius could do apart from offering a willing ear and being comforting, considering he couldn't really understand what reg was going through. it absolutely broke sirius' heart, to see him have breakdown after breakdown, losing his appetite or refusing to leave his room for days
back then reg experienced dysphoria constantly. he wasn't comfortable in his own body and he had a hard time looking at himself in the mirror, or even listening to himself talk
some days he could kind of deal with it, remain functional despite it all. he did his best to keep himself distracted so he wouldn't think too much about the whole thing
but other days getting up from bed was Hard
now tho !! it doesn't happen That often, he's the man he was always meant to be !! he's on T and got top surgery and legally changed his name and gender so he's kind of thriving
he still has his moments tho bc this is something he's gonna have to deal with for the rest of his life so when it happens he goes to the twins!! they're both trans in this story so they Understand what he's going through and they support each other Always
they exchange advice and comfort each other when it gets especially Hard and . idk it's all very lovely, they're each other's ppl yk??
again, back then a lot of stuff gave him dysphoria, but nowadays it's more specific?? little things that usually don't upset him that badly but that sometimes pile up and end up giving him actually bad dysphoria??
like . he's a well-known sports journalist, he isn't really a celebrity or anything but ppl do talk about him sometimes, especially bc of sirius (and then bc of james) and they tend to mention his looks or how similar or different he looks to his brother
and sometimes they use more . feminine adjectives or straight up say he's kinda feminine or even comment on him being trans since it's public knowledge and reg has spoken on it more than once and . it's stuff that doesn't affect him that badly but it still annoys him
it's the same when ppl highlight how passing he looks, how u can't even tell he's trans, etc
there's also the ppl that are purposefully transphobic or misgender him which . does actually make him quite dysphoric, even tho he's mostly very comfortable with his identity + his looks now
he also has a bit of a complicated relationship with . stuff that it's considered 'feminine'
like clothes don't have any gender, same with makeup, and reg wouldn't mind wearing a skirt even tho it's not his style and he does wear some makeup semi-regularly for tv interviews etc etc but . sometimes he feels slightly uncomfy on it, like he gets bad memories or becomes paranoid about how he looks in it, if the clothes make his body seem too . curvy .
as i've said, he's very confident nowadays but he still has his moments!!
when it comes to gender euphoria, it's all about the little things!! people calling him handsome, seeing how hairy his body is now, the fact that he can take his shirt off now when he goes to the beach etc
when it comes to relationships and his sex life he has reached a point in which he can usually go ahead without getting dysphoria but . it depends on his partner really
some ppl can be transphobic without meaning to or simply bc of a lack of knowledge which is fine by him u know he totally gets it, it's a matter of being willing to learn and to listen to him
like . he's used to guys assuming he only bottoms or not even ask if he's comfortable using his front hole u know
or using afab terms to refer to his genitals without making sure first reg is okay with that
which brings me to my next point !! in oby, reg himself uses afab terms and he's fine with james using them too, they've had a convo about it and everything
but it's different for reg in the boxer au!! he does use afab terms for himself, he doesn't mind at this point and it doesn't give him any dysphoria however . when it comes to his sexual partners . he prefers them using words like a cock or hole or more neutral names . it gives him gender euphoria!! and the other stuff makes him kinda uncomfy. it's fine when he's the one saying it or thinking it but hearing it out loud coming from . other people, especially people who are just there bc they're attracted to him and want to fuck him is . Not Great
he also isn't always fine with using his front hole during sex, it depends on his mood and how much he trusts the person he's gonna be sleeping with. besides, he quite likes anal too so !!
this whole thing is another reason why . reg doesn't want to sleep with james bc he feels like he's gonna be a bit of an asshole about it or be another guy who doesn't even bother asking about his preferences or what he's comfy with
which isn't the case at all!! james has been with trans ppl before, and even if he hadn't, he's very considerate with his partners!! and as he should tbh. him being arrogant or knowing he's great in bed doesn't mean he's selfish
#and i'm gonna stop right there bc this is getting out of hand#this is way too long omg#but i hope this was what u were hoping for !!!#sending u lots of love darling <333#asks#anons#boxer james agenda#regulus black

Your Guide To Voting in 2024
Yes, you may feel like everything is horrible and hopeless, and you don't want to vote. I'm here to not do that, and give you tips and info on why. Ultimately, I do not care what you actually vote only that you try to go and fill out something.
Make Sure You Are Registered to Vote
Check your registration status. This site has a drop down to select your state, which will link you to the website to check and see if you're registered.
Not registered? Go here. This site will tell you how to get registered in your state and will link you directly to the online registration if your state offers it.
Make sure you have a government issued photo ID. Driver's license, state ID, passport, etc. Many states require to you to present some form of ID to vote. Find out what counts in your state (and exceptions and provisional ballot rules) here.
Know you'll have difficulty making it to the ballot box? Check the rules for voting by mail/absentee voting in your state and see if you qualify.
Look up your sample ballot ahead of time! Lots of places provide a sample ballot which allows you to see what all the issues are ahead of time. Since this will vary by local elections, the best way to this is to look up "[your county name] sample ballot", possibly with the year tacked on to the end of the search. This may not be available until closer to election day, but it is a great way to get prepared for voting.
Other Voting Tips
This is where I get into the bit where it matters more to me that you vote than who you vote for. This is a personal principle of mine: everyone has the right to vote regardless of if I agree with what you choose to do with that vote.
You do not have to fill out every box on the ballot. You can leave some blank! Don't want to vote on President this year? Fine! Only want to vote on President and don't want to research other issues? Also fine. In fact, you can turn in a completely blank ballot if you want, and that is a political action, too. (Tip: parties note a blank box on issues because it indicates to them you were dissatisfied with your options)
You can bring notes with you! Too many issues to keep track of? Write yourself a note, print out a sample ballot and fill it out in advance to copy over, finding a voting guide and print it. As long as it is ON PAPER, you can bring it with you. (I verified this is universally allowed here)
Don't know where to start on research? The sample ballot is a great place to start just looking up candidates, but I also recommend checking out your local chapter of League of Women Voters. They put out a voters guides for each election that list pros and cons to various issues on the ballot.
The most important and most neglected elections are your local ones. Real grassroots change might be possible in your city, if you pay attention. Too overwhelmed by all this? Pick a few local issues to focus on, like the school board or city council. My city passed a trans-inclusive non-discrimination ordinance in a red state because people rallied around a handful of progressive city council members that swayed the vote. Even if everything feels hopeless, you make things better for yourself and your loved ones by actively engaging in your local politics.
Remember it's voting AND not voting OR. I know a lot of people are extremely dissatisfied with their options for this year's election, especially at the national level. Don't stop doing what you're doing. Don't stop protesting and boycotting and donating and talking about the things that matter to you. Get involved in your community. Find ways to make a difference. But also, go vote. Please.
Thank you for reading this. I hope something in here was helpful for you, and if it was, please consider reblogging this so that others can find it as well. If I've forgotten anything important, I welcome any helpful additions and will do my best to reblog those or add them to the original post as needed!

♡ NSFW Headcanons ♡
♡ The Kingdom Version ♡
(I sat down to write something else but I suddenly got a wave of inspiration for this. Miriel is canonically trans but the other characters who are referred to as having dicks are left vague so interpret it as you will.)
Content Warnings: Female characters have phalluses, characters crying during sex, overstimulation, vague allusions to pegging, allusions to dubcon, orgasm denial, knots, toys.
♡ Trans girl Miriel, my beloved. ♡
♡ Personally I headcanon Miriel as Greysexual, she rarely if ever experiences any sort of desire, and if she does it's usually initiated by her darling. She's also not quick to pick up on her darling trying to initiate. For someone who is so quick to see the smallest things as signs of love, she is very slow to pick up on obvious hints that you want to fuck, lol. ♡
♡ She's long, but not particularly girthy. ♡
♡ She's a submissive bottom all the way. She loses all strength in her bones when she's finally with her darling in such an intimate way. I mean you can ask her to get on top but she's much more likely to collapse on top of you whimpering that she can't take it anymore. It's great if you're her darling who is kind of mad at her cause now you get to see her cry. ♡
♡ You can touch her in pretty much anyway you want and she's still cry and be happy, like a fucking masochist. It's all love to her so go ahead. She literally doesn't care if you overstimulate her to the point of passing out, just love her please. ♡
♡ If you really want to see her explode then use the strap on her. She will lose her goddamn mind and might even beg you to marry her. ♡
♡ Yandere voted most likely to at the very least fondle you without prior consent. I mean she'll wait until you like her, but she's really not going to ask much before she goes in for it. Obviously if you seem extremely displeased then she's gonna stop but mild discomfort will not deter her. ♡
♡ She's a demon, Sweetness, she needs to be physical with her mate. Demons literally have giant sex drives, she can keep herself at bay until you're in her apartment but after that you have to fit her off with a broom at least once a day. She'll usually back off after one denial, like a spider that was just sprayed with poison ceasing it's course. ♡
♡ She has two faces when it comes to it. If you are willingly her darling and she didn't need to scare you into it then she's 100% sweet and tender. She'll take it slow and nice with you, maybe too slow, it might irritate you when you just want to get down to it. ♡
♡ If she's already shown her true colors to you then she's a denier all the way. You'll get one or two in a long session if you're being good, otherwise she's going to make you feel impatient, like she felt when she was waiting for your love. ♡
♡ If you want special treatment then surprise her with a long makeout session when she returns home from work, then she might go too far with the orgasms. ♡
♡ Knot. Big fucking knot, honestly is not for the weak of heart. Don't you worry though, she won't make you take it if it's too much though she really wishes you would. ♡
♡ Sex with her takes a long time because of how big she is and how much prepwork is required, and while she does think you're worth all that work, she also is sort of the de facto leader of the city so she can't do it all the time. Maybe once a week, once in two weeks if she's particularly busy. She's so sorry, she'll buy you a few toys to make it up. ♡
♡ Now the exception is her heats which are not at all predictable. When they occur, if you two have gotten to the point of being intimate beforehand then you two are going to be holed up in her apartment as she almost splits you apart. ♡
♡ If prior you have no interacted in a sexual way then she's not going to do anything with you no matter how much you want to help her out, she needs the first time to be when she's in her right mind and won't accidentally hurt you. She'd prefer multiple sessions before she's comfortable doing it during heats cause you doesn't want to shock you with too much too soon. ♡
♡ God please take the knot, she'll give you anything, even burning the entire city she's worked hard to build, if you just take the knot every heat. Please please please. ♡
♡ Is that a tear in Sawyer's eye? Nah you're probably seeing things. ♡
