Hello hello! I'm excited to announce my submission for the Monstrous Desires 2024 Jam: Astronought is out! 🌑🎉

If you're interested, I really hope it's not with the expectations that it'll be similar to MO. I really wanted to try out different things with a new character and had a lot of fun with the process!

Be sure to heed the general warnings, and if you're sensitive to body horror,,, maybe sit this one out hjhs (tbh it's my first time attempting it so it's probably not even that graphic but just a heads up! There will be mentions of fleshy things!)

Anyhoo, I don't know if MO enjoyers will like it, but it's certainly a game I made! If there's any bugs/issues I'll get to them as soon as I can! Maybe you'll like it, maybe you won't; I made it, so have it! <3 /aff

non-canon compliant lighter backstory. a longer-ish draft that i first wrote for this ask

lighter doesn’t talk much about his family. it’s more like he had to grow up quite fast, the lack of actual parental involvement in his life caused him to make rather reckless life decisions. he got by when he was in his mercenary group, there would be days where they would splurge according to their pay, but he isn’t the kind to take into consideration his own health and wellbeing often.

all your life, you never really had to worry about feeling cared and loved. food on the table, smiles on your parents’ faces, it’s a warm and familiar sight with maybe occasional disagreements here and there. however, you were well aware that all they hoped for you was to be happy, meet someone that treated you well and walk along the road of life hand in hand together. it’s not much, right?

it’s like night and day when you invited lighter over for dinner, a suggestion your mother gave after hearing you go on and on about him. young love, how sweet. he was not expecting such a large meal on the table, awkwardly gifting some homely gifts as a thank you to her. he wasn’t used to an actual well balanced meal that was delicious too as your mother kept scooping more on to his plate

“any plans for the future?” finally the conversation starts, more like an interrogation to lighter though. he was about to talk with his mouth full before realizing how embarrassing that would be. he cleared his throat, awkwardly smiling towards your mother, “nothing much. letting fate decide that for me.” you were both still young but she could see how attentive he was when it came to you, maybe she should slow down….

“do you have any siblings? i remember hearing about a younger girl named lucy… is she your sister?” you were about to correct her but lighter shook his head first. “only child but i do… have people i call family,” he didn’t want to go into the specifics of it, it’s the first meeting. he didn’t want to bring down the mood all of a sudden. your mother hummed, letting out a sigh of relief at that. she noticed how much lighter had been eating, ready to serve him more. “eat up, dear. i heard you fight a lot, you have to eat lots to keep up your energy.” he rarely ate homecooked food so he wouldn’t turn down the offer.

after that first meeting, your mother seemed a lot more eager to have him visit. she’d make lots of food for him, ensuring he’d go back with some leftovers packed nicely. it was out of kindness in the beginning, but after having him around you for a long time, he too began to loosen up. slowly revealing bits and pieces of himself, which didn’t change how your mother saw him but instead cared for him more.

“come over any time you like, lighter.” your mother’s cheerful voice always reassured him as he still hesitated to take the packaged food from her hands. “he will, don’t worry. he likes your food anyways,” you held your mom’s hand, gently rubbing over her knuckles while lighter fixed himself up. he wouldn’t admit it outright but he did enjoy the food, the company, the warmth of a home. as you both waved goodbye to her, he can’t help but feel a little more loved each time.
