i might be biased bc she’s my fav but i do think that the reason why people hate lyra for being “whiny” is because they genuinely don’t know what to do when they’re reading about a jlb character whose sadness is always a part of them

like with avery she had gone through so much but was always able to cope with how she felt, and she had a very good support system (after book 1 that is 😬😬) like the hawthornes and jameson to help her out whenever she was feeling upset

and with cassie she had gone through so much but could still put her emotions to the side when she noticed that other people were going through “harder” things, and when she needed to solve cases (poor girl was still sad a lot of the time though ☹️☹️)

but with lyra her sadness consumes her. usually we start jlbs books with just the characters living their normal lives, (well tig, tgg, and the naturals at least) before they get this big opportunity and events happen that progressively break them down and ruin their mental health before building them back up again stronger, but for lyra she’s sad at the beginning, she’s sad when she’s getting broken down, (finding more and more about her father in the game and all the flashbacks) and she’s sad at the end. this girl is literally just depressed and y’all are acting like she lit hawthorne house on fire and danced on hannah rooneys grave just cause she doesn’t know how to cope with her emotions yet 😭😭🙏

and in case you guys forgot, the only people who know what happened to her father and are capable of sympathizing with her for it in any way is a literal grandma who was involved with tobias, whose wife had a part in lyras fathers death, and an ACTUAL HAWTHORNE 😭😭

like yeah averys support system wasn’t that good either, and cassies could have been better, BUT AT LEAST THEY HAD SOME KIND OF FOUND FAMILY SHIT THAT THEY COULD SYMPATHIZE WITH?? jlb really said “yessss found family trope for you” to avery and “found family trope for you” to cassie and then looked at lyra like this:

this last part is a joke btw, but because you guys are prob going to say something, (or maybe not idk) she does have a family, but there’s a lot of struggles with her telling them her problems because its not really expected of her. idk how many of y’all are the eldest child but there’s that and also this shame that lyra feels with being upset all the time because its so unlike the old her and she feels she owes it to her family to be like her old self, happy and communicative

you mean the happy ending where aang gets to live forever with the constant reminder that he is alone, that the genocide of his people happened and there is no going back ? where he has the responsibility to assure that the air nation doesn’t die off with him after his death ? where he has to forever live with the fact that he disappeared for 100 years and that the world he lives in now isn’t his. he’s a relic of the past, the testament of a forgotten culture, the last remaining of what is left of the air nomads. he’s alone, forever, at least a part of it died with his people, forever lost.

or you mean the happy ending where Katara & Sokka go back to their tribe, scarred forever by war and loss, having to rebuild the southern water tribe after 100 years of war ? having to rebuild their culture, forcefully destroyed by the fire nation ? forever living with the urge to cradle in their mother’s arms, but never quite being able to do it. Katara will forever see her mother in her brother, his face, his eyes, everything reminding her of Kya, and how she misses her. and Sokka being unable to remember his mother’s face, always ending up picturing Katara instead. even with their dad on their side, Kya will always be missing. no amount of hope, love, and support will grow them a new mother.

or you mean the happy ending where Toph goes back to her toxic parents that really couldn’t care less for who she really is ? and leaving the gaang, the only family she ever really had, who have to take on various missions around the world to rebuild it after the war ? and let’s not forget how scarred and terrified she could be after barely surviving their last battle.

or you mean the happy ending where Suki, after months in prison, simply has to go on with her life as if nothing ever happened ? as if she hadn’t rot in prison for months ? as if she hadn’t experienced the war firsthand by helping the refugees in Ba Sing Se ?

or maybe you mean the happy ending where Zuko, after living a childhood made of lies, abuse, neglect and grief, has to become fire lord at 16, with no idea on what he is doing ? after having half his face burned by his own father, for defending his nation, will experience numerous assassination attempts as a new ruler and have to rebuild the whole world because of the wrongdoings of his ancestors ? his hands are tainted red by blood that his swords didn’t shed, but the crown on his head now is his, and that’s all that matters in everyone’s eyes. that’s all that will always matter.

or maybe you mean all those other kids, that the gaang met during the series.

characters like Haru, who saw his dad being imprisoned, fearing for his life and the life of his mother everyday.

character like the freedom fighters, orphans, who had to become child soldiers in order to survive, who built a family around the hope that they were doing something right. only for it to be washed out by the destroying of a village, and the splitting up of their group.

characters like Jet, who never even got to see a life after the war, who was born in a world scarred by flames and loss, forced to become a parental figure to dozens of orphans, and who died by the hands of his very own country, forgotten forever under a lake, among other forgotten bodies.

characters like Mai or Ty Lee, that never really got to choose what they wanted to do, forcefully put into a role maintained by fear and violence. in a world that asked only thing from them : to fight.

characters like Azula, who got her whole life taken away by one cruel man, forced to become a weapon. who’s forever scarred by the way she grew up, by the way no one saved her, no one helped her, by the way she lost her mom and her brother, because of one, very, cruel man.

or Yue, who sacrificed herself for the wrongdoings of yet another man, who never got to experience adulthood, never got to experience the joy of growing up.

y’all can’t even comprehend that they are all DOOMED. they will never have a normal life after the war, never. their whole lives are forever scarred by the mistakes made by thousands of people before they were even born. they are born with tragedy, loss and war in their blood. ALL OF THEM. nothing will ever change that, no matter how good their future could be. even Aang, who was born before the war, was ultimately tainted by the horrors of it. after experiencing, seeing, all the suffering, all the wrongdoings.

they got the weight of the world and the hopes of long gone generations on their shoulders. not a single one of them got to be kids. not a single one of them got to experience a normal childhood. not a single one of them will live freely after the war. some of them won’t even live after the war.

because how. how can you forget, how can you forget 100 years of pain and suffering ?

(I know this all sounds pretty pessimistic but they all make me so, so sad… I love all of these characters so much. all of them. they make me sad in the best way possible and the tragedy of their story will forever make me cry.)

i still cannot comprehend how u guys will write or draw or rb something of jack where he is present as a full grown adult and then call him a precious child….

I’ve come across a thought of options for Spruce/Bruce and I’m curious… Spruce does end up at Vacay Island, however, when Thrash starts to push borders and his invasion/war becomes more known in the world, Spruce is kicked out of Vacay Island due to the possible threat. This is about 10 years after Brozone breakup.

1. Option 1 - Some of this might be confusing so if you have any questions, let me know. At this point in the apocalypse, the kingdoms are taken over and under rock rule - although not everyone is zombified (long story) so when Spruce goes into a town, they think he’s a pop troll except he has no idea what that is. A sub genre living in the town comes to his aid and claims him as one of their own.

2. Option 2 - upon being kicked out and heartbroken, Spruce turns a bit gray and is mistaken for a rock troll and stumbles into being involved in the Rock Rule and invasion. As he learns more of what is happening, he keeps to it to survive.

3. Option 3 - he is caught be rock trolls but as Thrash learns Spruce literally knows nothing, he manipulates Spruce and tries to use him to try and lure the few known pop trolls left to Thrash.

This timeline is actually kind of short so this doesn’t happen over the course of a superrrrr long time. Spruce does spend most of the time on Vacay Island. I do have one I’m leaning towards but I was curious on what others thought.

If you need clarification or have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask!

that stupid comicbook.com article and also fan response in general to the companion romance situation annoys me so bad for the sole reason that everyone acts like the only people in the game are the pc and playable companions

#mine #dragon age #so many people use dorian as justification and like. you know we could have non romanceable characters who are gay #where’s the people using cassandra as evidence for why this is good actually #‘it limits the types of stories you can tell’ with THOSE specific characters. however there are probably others #i’ll admit i thought it was bizarre that they made every companion romanceable. i hate to make this comparison bc i know everyone has been #saying they’re similar when they’re really not. but that specifically feels like some baldurs gate shit #but like. think of leliana in inquisition. joker in mass effect. etc. characters whose story develops even if they’re not going on missions #it’s just this weird video game conception that sexuality only exists for romanceable characters #(or i should say. people assume every NPC is heterosexual by default. until proven otherwise by a romance arc)#but like. everyone uses the dorian example. his conflict with his homophobic father happens regardless of whether you romance him #it’s not tied to the fact that he’s romanceable. y’all just see sexuality as only relevant when you personally can or cannot smash #idk if the lighthouse will be populated now that we know it’s in the fade but theoretically we’ll have allies #and some of those allies. may identify as something other than cishet #or other than pansexual if that’s the problem but grow up. pansexual characters are not cheap and not lesser #playersexuality is a concept so gamer bros can pretend their companions are straight #because if they don’t interact with dorian and sera they can pretend everyone is straight in this game #here’s the thing like. i can understand the disappointment that every character is romanceable bc. sigh. gaider does make a good point #but that’s not what’s going on here. people are upset the companions are explicitly pan and the game is Woke #and they might try to spin it as ‘b but what about dorian’s arc in a game like this’ when once again #there may be other characters. who are not companions. who we spend time with #varric and solas are literally in all of the stuff we’ve and neither of them are playable #come ON

Was Anyone But You a good Much Ado About Nothing adaptation? No, not at all, but fuck it was fun!

#y’all know I have many thoughts about this play and these characters #but even though the movie didn’t completely live up to my expectations as an adaptation #I still really enjoyed it!#and I really despise all those people making posts about how sydney sweeney can’t act #idk it seems a little rude #my main problem is how they messed up the benedick and beatrice characterization and dynamic #I love that they played up the ex lovers thing (which is left up to interpretation in the play)#and i love love queer Hero and Claudio!!!#but their hatred of each other didn’t really pack the same punch as in the original #I suppose I wish they weren’t afraid to make the characters bigger assholes?#ya know- give them more flaws?#because right now the enemies part doesn’t really feel believable for big parts of the movie #They really could have leaned more into making Bea a bit of a cold and snappy mess (as she is in the original)#and Ben more of…ya know…actual human disaster who can’t commit #both of their characters in the play are driven by their desire never to marry and their distrust for the opposite sex #They included this a bit with Bea (her not believing in true love and all that)#but her break up with Jonathan (because he was too nice???) didn’t really convince me of it #They also keep insisting that Ben is a fuckboy but we never really see it demonstrated?#I personally don’t mind the fact that they changed up the whole ‘convincing them that the other secretly loves them’ bit #especially considering this is only loosely based on much ado #but I do think they made it a bit messy considering they included the gulling scenes but only as a joke #I wish they’d either leaned fully into the much ado plot or ditched it #I think what a lot of adaptations get wrong is that they’re either too afraid of leaning into their og media #or too afraid of seperating themselves from the og media #oh god I’ve reached the tag limit help #anyways- rant over #anyone but you #maria talks about things #much ado about nothing #beatrice x benedick

I think the phrase “a dollar saved is a dollar earned” is one that’s really important for magical practitioners to remember

Like, maybe it’s a skill issue on my part, but no matter how many abundance spells (or even money specific spells) I do, the result of them is never me stumbling across $1500 in the parking lot

But sometimes it is bigger things, like getting an unmentioned raise

Sometimes it’s noticing that I have more opportunities for things like pet sitting and I can get some extra pocket cash

But like, one I did several months ago was quickly followed by my partner saying “hey, you always go to the grocery store for us, let me start paying the whole grocery cost since you do the actual shopping”

I’m still getting the groceries I need, but I can save the funds that I would’ve used for splitting the costs and use it for something else

A couple weeks ago I redid some of the around the house magic I’ve got, mostly just refreshing wards and stuff, but some abundance stuff to. Among other things in this time, today my boss paid for my lunch

Not just any lunch, but lunch from a food truck we get food from sometimes that I like a lot but never really get for myself, and that gives you a huge serving, which i can almost never finish when we do get food from there, which means that this will probably be dinner too

That’s two meals that I didn’t have to buy

To me, that’s abundance, y’know?
