Im sorry I just have to rant for a sec.

Everytime I see a radfem talk about the palestine and isreal situation, they never actually talk about whats happening in palestine or the history behind it. Like they never have a discussion about palestine itself.

Unless to say, that hating on jews isn't right. Which I agree with 100%. But why is that the only time the situation, or the GENOCIDE gets talked about in radfem spaces.

Why isn't radfems actually advocting/discussing about it, with deep analysis and data, as they do with other important discussions (fgm, racism, gender ideology, misogyny in many types, ect ect)

I believe that if you aren’t thoroughly educated on a topic I don’t think you should broadcast your uneducated opinions to ur followers. I do not consider myself educated enough on the history and politics to speak on the topic, but I assure you, there’s aplenty of discussion about it not only in radfem spaces but in all leftist spaces if you want to engage with it. Or even better, just do your own research. Stop relying on fucking social media accounts and tumblr blogs for your global political views. I kinda have to ask, why is it that every time I talk about being jewish or about antisemitism, my ask inbox is flooded with interrogations regarding a conflict I never claimed to be educated on? As far as I’m aware, I speak very little on the I/P conflict outside of responding to said asks. Even then, I ignore half of them.

I recognise antisemitism when I see it. I am cautious of who I tell I’m jewish. I keep updated on who’s yelling “fuck the jews” and who’s burning and graffitiing synagogues, only for my own safety. I’ll say something when someone in my community says “antisemitism isn’t real” or “I wouldn’t shed a tear if there was an organised rape against jewish women”, but I never claimed to be an expert on some many many decade old political issue. I’m not a journalist, I don’t research every happening in Israel and Palestine and its entire history. It’s simply not my area of expertise, but for some fucking reason when yall hear I’m jewish, you insist it must be, and interrogate me with questions about it. My blog and my interests are with women’s issues, not wars. I am jewish, sometimes I will speak about antisemitism and the jewish experience. “they never talk about the history” okay and yall don’t talk about the history of the civil war in Syria. Or immigration, or global warming or animal abuse. It’s just not my field. I do not know enough of the history to make claims and start debates. You cannot expect everyone to know everything. I have a fucking law degree to fill my brain with on top of women’s issues. Do not expect every social media influencer and blogger to know everything about every issue enough to speak on them all. We are not the president. We are (mostly) teenagers and young adults who have laundry to fold.

I have occasionally mentioned the rape involved in the conflict, but all that boils down to is men rape. no matter what their political alignment, no matter who they think owns what land. If men are so inclined and they are provided the opportunity, they rape women. That’s as far as it goes regarding my field.

I will not speak on an issue I do not feel confidently educated on. Just because I’m jewish doesn’t mean I know every working of the IDF, and I never claimed to. Please fuck off and stop interrogating jewish people on their opinions of the actions of a government/military they aren’t even governed by. And stop relying on and expecting fucking tumblr blogs to tell you about every issue in the world. Go ask someone who’s got it as their paid job.

oh i forgot to write up an update on the embark situation!

if you missed my posts last month (or didnt read them because they were certified walls of text): i got kep an embark test and in addition to the expected stuff, it also flagged him as having some genes related to copper storage disease - specifically that he had 1 gene for copper accumulation, and 2 genes that make accumulation less severe, meaning he inherited copper-related genes from both parents. when i did some reading into it,i couldnt find ANY studies or resources regarding copper disease in collies - it was almost entirely focused on labradors and dobermans, with an occasional hand-wavy comment of "sometimes seen in other breeds idk." because this test only got added by embark last month, i ended up doing a new test on stellina to check and see if she also had it.

basically my thinking was: A: does the presence of these genes mean that kep is actually at risk for copper storage disease, OR B: was this an incidental finding and the genes really only affect labs and dobes.

with stellina's test results, i think i'm pretty confident in guessing that the answer is B!

stellina's results also flagged as having one gene for copper accumulation - which, since i know that kep and stellina are pretty distantly related, indicates to me that it's much more likely that the genes are widespread in the greater collie gene pool as opposed to both of them just so happening to pick up a rare and harmful gene.

and most notably, now that's been a month and embark presumably has more data, they also had this new information listed:

those are HIGH numbers - and is an even bigger indicator that the gene, for whatever reason, simply doesn't affect these breeds that much. great pyrs, for example, are primarily working, livestock guardian dogs - there's no way that 80% of these dogs are suffering from copper storage disease. and while frenchies and cavs are certainly poster children for "breed with lots of serious health problems", copper storage isn't one of them. given the extreme popularity of frenchies, if 90% of them had this disease, someone would have noticed.

(interestingly, last week when i looked at this instead of pyrs it had pembroke corgis listed in that spot at around the same numbers - i wonder how many other breeds have large percentages of this gene but embark is just only listing the top few. this is such a new test that i expect a lot of information to change)

so i'm guessing that copper storage genes are actually pretty common in dogs - especially breeds with known low genetic diversity, such as collies, cavs, and dobermans. but given that there's nothing noted in studies about breeds besides labradors, dobermans, and a few terrier breeds, it just might not affect the rest of them. similarly, i know stellina carries the gene for "saddle tan" coloration, as do a certain %age of collies - but collies don't come in saddle tan. it's suspected there's another gene needed to "'activate" the pattern that's missing from collies. i'd guess the same thing is happening here - lots of dogs have the gene, but the "activation" genetics are only in a few specific breeds.

i'm definitely still going to be keeping a close eye on it, the test only released in May so it's still very early and i imagine they're getting a ton of data from this - would love some research into if my thinking is correct. if you have a dog that's gotten an embark health test from may and onwards this year, i'd be interested to know what breed(s) your dog is and if they also carry these genes. but i think, overall, this indicates that it's more incidental than a real concern.

Hi! So I’ve been watching TWD lately and have just fallen in love with the characters and the story.

I want to shift there, I’ve gotten really attached to it, but I know it’s very scary and traumatic.

I’m worried about that, and even if I do decide to shift there, the fear of loosing people or being traumatized will keep me from shifting to it in the first place.

I have thought about just scripting out a lot of stuff but that also means the characters and situations won’t be the same and I don’t want key moments that shape characters to not happen?

What should I do?

i haven't talked about my TWD dr a lot on here but i do think it's a great example for certain things to consider when you're deciding where you want to shift. firstly, why do you want to shift there? consider to yourself what desire is actually driving you, and what you want to shift your awareness to experience.

if you've seen the show, consider if the "canon plot" is something you want to live through do you want to experience the apocalypse? really consider what it would be like for society and civilization to fall. if it happened here, would you want to live through it? consider the walkers. do you want to experience a world where that happens to people? do you want to see one? do you want to experience losing people the way it happens in the show (ie, traumatically, violently, suddenly, irrevocably, and often.) do you want the situations to be the same? do you want to experience yourself and the people you love going through that and being shaped by it?

if the genuine answer is no, then don't script for those things to happen. if the thing you're attached to is the people, the places, etc, you can change as much as you need to make it a world you actually, genuinely want to experience. maybe it's still a "post-apocalypse" world, but the apocalypse happened long before you were born. maybe there's no walkers left, or there never were any and it was a different apocalypse. maybe there never was an apocalypse and you're just living life with all those people you're attached to in a normal suburban city named alexandria. if you script the people there go through all the same stuff as the characters in canon, do keep in mind it's different to know and have relationships with real people who have that level of trauma vs knowing a character in a show who did. you could script they have the same personality but didn't go through that stuff, or were shaped by other less traumatic events. idk, my point is you do not have to shift to the "canon" plot if that's not what you really want.

i know a lot of people say you can "script out trauma" or "just script that you can handle it" or "script it won't affect you here when you shift back" and... okay, maybe those things work. but maybe they don't. the thing is with reality shifting, we do not have evidence, or proof. we don't have replicable research studies, systematically analyzed data or double-blind experiments. we only have the individual anecdotes (meaning hearsay, a story an individual tells you) and our personal experience to go off of. while you can get excellent advice or guidance from the anecdotes of those you trust, i do encourage everyone to really, seriously consider what is right for themself before shifting to a reality like TWD. is it worth the risk of traumatizing yourself? do you have the necessary support networks, coping skills, and resources in this reality to process and handle the fallout if it is traumatic to you here? do you want to do something that makes you afraid? do you actually want to experience it? if some part of you is holding you back from shifting there, it might be for a reason.

to be clear, i'm not saying "never shift to canon TWD it's too traumatic. 😠" personally, my TWD isn't exactly like canon, of course, but it is similar in a lot of ways. i chose to script that i lived through the apocalypse, there are walkers, and i have experienced losing loved ones. but i didn't make the decision lightly, and if i didn't genuinely want to experience that world in that way, i wouldn't have shifted there. i did script out a lot of stuff for safety, and for what i wanted to actually experience, but there is still some heavy, scary, emotionally costly stuff there. contrast that to my hogwarts reality, where i scripted out death eaters, voldemort, and basically any bad or scary stuff because i self reflected and considered and understood about myself that i do not want to experience anything scary or traumatic in that world, and leaving that stuff in my script was going against the original innate desire of what i wanted to experience there in the first place (for me, i currently shift to hogwarts mainly for childhood healing. sooooo why would voldemort be there 😭) anyways, you hopefully get my point.

Random reguri and other pokemon hc that are bouncing around my mind like the dvd logo thing

Considering how green (ookido green, im using japanese names) doesnt have his starter in the gen 2 games and red has all starters, i too adopt the headcanon that green gave red his starter sometime after the champion battle but before red going the f off up the freeze your butt mountain (since green doesnt know that red ran off to mt silver, i like to think they had a talk sort of immediately after the champion battle and oak being a bad grandpa moment when things all cooled off). It was done in a very tsundere "its not like i like you or anything b-baka" way (something something "you won bc my pokemon were weak i dont want them here have it" or something idk how to write generic sore loser rival dialogue lines).

I like to think that pidgeot is green's honorary starter, maybe it's his 1st caught pokemon or maybe he and red befriended a pidgey as kids (you ever fed pigeons and accidentally domesticated them?) before their pokemon journey. Maybe he dreamed of being a plane pilot or something as a kid before wanting to become a pokemon champion.

Expanding my pokemon journeys are a pilgrimage/summer camp activity thing rather than pokemon champions being region political leaders and such (bc if your country is ran by a kid with a team of lvl 100 ratattas you gotta have problems lmao). The pokedex is to compile field data of the pokemon and to extend the research data pool (otherwise where does the pokedex get the info on the pokemon after you register it? lol) rather than "oh hey you discovered a new pokemon!" "... Dude we've seen butterfrees migrate every year wym new pokemon". I think the gym and league challenge and the championships are more of an olympics type of situation and a side job in gym leader cases (i like how pokemon violet and scarlet did that). They do call the champion to do stuff if its stuff that can be solved via pokemon battle or something the champion could do with their skill sets (think of it like "yeah my friend steve who is a pro wrestler also has a geology degree imma ask him what this cool rock is" type of situation, otherwise i think its stupid to call a random 11 yr old kid to diffuse a nuclear bomb or something lol).

been rewatching some harry-centric eps to prepare for s3 and honestly the turkish prisoner job ( aka the one where harry gets to play mastermind ) might just be one of my favorite harry episodes because even tho the con went wrong at every possible moment, i love the way it showcased that harry's strength lies in books and research and connecting the dots.

his little lawyer brain is hardwired to analyze existing data while also understanding the people in the stories, deciding what's best for the situation, etc. and idk i just really love how throughout the series, you can see him return to those roots. he can keep up with the team on his own okay but what specifically helped him understand was being given research/books/stories about grifting and cons. something tangible he can deconstruct and analyze until he understands.

my final conclusion: idk they seem to run on vibes. like. it's definitely not a Every Time Absolutely, Have Manners™ type of situation. but at least a little clapping each podium, not necessarily limited to p1. there does not appear to be an upwards trend or anything, chronologically. it seems to vary (though i might say that they do it reflexively if the clapping starts earlier and thus clap more for those podiums... hmmm).

THE CULTURE IN SOUL SOCIETY

Okay basically my issue with this is really fucking simple, some characters like Yoruichi for example CLEARLY have an ethnicity and background from another country to them, BUT it's never really shown in depth or talked about it, all Soul society is like almost strictly japanese based and that bothers me SO MUCH

Cause Shinigami live a LONG TIME, hell almost ageless/immortal and not only can Shinigami be born in soul society but people BECOME Shinigami in the afterlife or even when alive, so HOW THE HELL isn't Soul society extremely culturally diverse and complex??? Like there's no way the first Shinigami were only japanese or something, and yeah you can say it's because the souls slowly forget their time when alive and it becomes more instinct/a blur, but there's no way they didn't bother to share their culture or anything before forgetting, plus Shinigami must travel the whole entire world due to hollows and so on, HOW NOT A SINGLE SHINIGAMI got influenced by the outside and brought that as a change to Soul society???

Hell I'm thinking about this more than kubo ever did but COME ON, wouldn't it be interesting to see a lively and full of other countries and IT'S OWN CULTURE SHAPING Soul society? PLUS perhaps Shinigami using all languages or CREATING A NEW LANGUAGE FROM SCRATCH that only them could use/learn? Which hey would be a lot more safer considering no mortal could communicate or get access to info only Shinigami should have, which would make a lot more sense in this type of society BUILD AS A WHOLE SINCE HUMANITY START

And hey it's fine if they choose a language already created, but WHY japanese? In my eyes latin should be used due to being what originated a lot of other languages and so on, picking what CREATED the languages not THE language itself

IT COULD GO AS FAR AS EXPANDING the SS to multiple Soul societies or seireitei of different countries and cultures they could all create some sort of fast travel to get there, like idk, japanese Soul society, Italian soul society, Brazilian soul society, and then the main one connecting everything like we see in the anime/manga as the actual soul society

THE LACK OF DATA/TECHNOLOGY

I LOVE that it's based in a traditional japanese setting and hell even some Buddhist kinda of look (I went recently to a Buddhist temple really famous here in Brazil and it looked so much like a building in the seireitei) BUT how isn't Soul society more technology advanced? Like damn, again, ageless, immortal (kinda), a lot of new souls getting there, new generations left and right, HOW IS THERE NO SCIENTIFIC REGISTER?? LIKE MAN, WHY IT HAD TO TAKE URAHARA TO BE BORN TO SCIENCE START BEING A FOCUS THERE??? In my view SS should have at least GOOD AMOUNT of new tech because of the conditions Shinigami are in, OR AT LEAST some type of register of scientific researchers and so on, HELL LET'S GO EVEN FURTHER, WHY THE SHINIGAMI ACADEMY DOESN'T HAVE A SCIENCE COURSE? OR an academy focused 100% only on technology, science, physiology and so on? It's so useful and would sure as hell help the Aizen incident not happen again due to having more brilliant minds to help in situations like this.

ALSO picture an AU of a Shinigami science academy and a teacher Kisuke teaching a class all about armament and Shinigami war gear technology and like their bimester project is an attempt of gigai or something and he's a teacher that everyone loves- ANYWAY

oh boy it IS. tng update time. tonight, just under an hour ago, we finished watching "chain of command" parts i & ii. i'm not differentiating between them even though one had. WWWWAY more nudity than the other. hey did you guys know tng can occasionally pop the FUCK off

to me this episode felt like a backdoor pilot to ds9 which we will be doing tomorrow because it had cardassians in it and basically the only thing i know about ds9 is that gay cardassian that wants to fuck the doctor. and he's like the definition of the predatory gays/predatory gaze joke from what i have seen from gifs. so i was expecting like, some minor cardassian shenanigans and mild flirtiness

we acted this episode. will riker grinding his teeth every time he spoke to this guy. deanna's worried looks. beverly feeling guilty for leaving picard behind. i was actually complaining about patrick stewart not emoting when she was stuck in that little hole but now i understand. he had to save it for the FUCKING payload

ROLE REVERSAL FOR THE WOMEN. deanna got to wear a real uniform and beverly got to flirt her way out of a Situation. i love deanna's uniform, even if it is too tight around the chest. i think that's preferable to it being too tight around her crotch and leading to the horrific c*melt*e situation (sorry to say it like that). her hair also looked great this ep. so did bev's weirdly??? women's rights.

data didn't have much to do in this episode except accidentally give geordi more work which made me sad but it WAS wild to see him in a red shirt. i'll miss him until it's time to watch tng again

the little infiltration was charming. worf and beverly teasing each other about heights and bats. even the cave-in. picard getting left behind because worf tried to hold the door open like that guy in narnia and got SHOT.

i loved the guy who was doing the peace talks. he had the most unsettling horrific smile i've ever seen in my life. STAN a legend.

truly though even though i enjoyed the first half of the episode and thought it was solidly watchable the second half is what elevated it into mind blowing territory.

Hi. I've seen a list of professions that could work for people with autism but there is always "journalism" in this list. And as someone who is currently studying and having practice as almost a real journalist a can't see how this profession would do great for autistic people like me. It's stressful. It has to be fast, quick, so many social interactions, so many situations you are never ready for. And I'm "lucky" to be in a "quiet" place since the others have more rough redactions

But then I started chemistry and realized that writing is the only good skill I have so I switch to English. I have my associates degree, but I don’t think I’ll attend university. HOW 2 MOD MAD RAT DEAD ON SWITCH! PART 1: MUSIC!

If at any point you need more information or further assistance, drop me an ask or direct message! Even if it's something 'stupid' don't worry, I'll help :)

What you'll need:

A copy of the game in .nsp or .xci format

Switch Explorer

Sonic Audio Tools

VGAudio

Audacity (My recommendation, alternatives may work)

Switch explorer is used to extract the files from the game to be modded

Sonic audio tools is used to extract the .acb archives the songs (.hca files) are packed in, and to pack the files back in

VGAudio is used to convert the .hca files (the actual audio files) to .wav to be opened and edited in audacity, and to convert them back to .hca before being repacked

Lastly, audacity is used to edit the .wav files to put whatever you want into the files, completely replace it's contents or whatever, go wild

Did any of that make sense to you? no? Good, keep reading.

LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD!

I'll add like a pastebin link here later with every song's internal number so you can easily find the one you're looking for and extract it, too lazy right now tho :P

Open switch explorer, choose to load up your nsp/xci of the game (file > open) and navigate to data > sound

then, find the song you wish to edit and right click > extract file, then drop it in a good spot for later

Afterwards, open two file explorer windows, one in the sonic audio tools folder and the other where you extracted the .acb file. We do this so you can easily drag the .acb into the ACBeditor.exe found in the sonic audio tools folder:

this will produce a folder in the same directory as the .acb sharing its name, and inside you will find your .hca files:

these are the actual audio files, but we can't edit them yet, because no program knows what to do with a .hca! First, we need to convert them to .wav files, so boot up VGAudio, click open file, pick the .hca file (you need to repeat this process for all 4+ files), choose to convert to WAVE and hit save file.

wherever you saved it, you now have a .wav of the audio file, feel free to give it a listen! If it's just silence, don't worry, some of the songs are like that.

Now these files require a little explanation, the one ending in 0 to 2 are all related to the song's into, opening, and cut scene loops, basically everything you stop hearing once you've started playing the level properly. The file ending in a 3 is the main loop, the part that plays so long as you keep playing through the level. In some rare cases, there will be even more files, or less! I haven't done enough of my own research yet, so you can come to your own conclusions on those, shouldn't be hard to figure out once you get how these work.

Anyways, now that that's outta the way, audacity time! Individually open, edit, and export each .wav you extracted, again as .wav (keep the file name the same!) using audacity, make any changes you want, import other files of any format into it on a new track and remove the original when you're done, whatever, but I recommend keeping the lenght (not filesize) of the audio file the same, idk if the game will have a stroke if it's too long or not long enough. (Also a lot of the song info like BPM is hardcoded so any old song won't work if you just drop it in here, stick to mad rat monday songs for your first edits like I did, those work the best, but do be ready to splice them to extend the main loop (file 3)) (also line it up properly, it can't be off beat from the original, you gotta find a point in the songs where the waveform is similar and use it to line it up exactly right)

This part's kinda all up to you, but I can provide some basic audacity tips specific to your situation if required. Or just general ones, if you can't wrap your head around audacity :P

once they're all edited, use VGAudio to reverse the process, open the .wav files and choose to convert to HCA, and save them, maybe backup the original .hca files instead of replacing them if you want to (i just added an 'og' to the start of the original file's name)

then, remove all the junk from the folder besides the new .hca files you made (or move them to another, identically named folder separately), and drag the folder into the same acbeditor.exe from the sonic audio tools folder, just like you did with the acb the first time. It will pack your folder back into an acb in the same directory as the folder you dragged in (it'll replace the original if you kept them all in the same directory, but don't worry you can just extract the file again if you need the original). Now, we set up the mod!

This part's easy, just make a new folder with the name of your mod, in there make one named romfs, in there make one named data, and in there make one named sound, then drop your new acb file into the sound folder. The mod's done! Drag it into the mod directory on your real switch (idk how that works I don't have a modded switch) or in yuzu right click mad rat dead, choose open mod directory and drop the mod folder in there. Then right click the game, hit properties, and the mod should show up with the name you chose for the top folder. Here's some screenshots for all that:

Tick the box to enable the mod and boot up the game! That's it!

We've really only ever seen .hack//SIGN and between us, we've maybe played 3 out of 4 of the PS2 games (we started replaying .hack//Infection again recently!) so our knowledge of the series is vague and limited at best... I'll look into the rest, but .hack is just a large multimedia franchise with SO MUCH BACKGROUND STUFF HAPPENING

anyway, BACKGROUND STUFF (.hack is a niche little project so I’ll summarize a little bit of what’s going):

The story of .hack takes place in an alternate reality in which there’s a technological rise of a new version of the internet following a major global computer network disaster, and the mysterious events regarding the wildly popular fictional massively multiplayer online role-playing game The World.

The World is a fairly standard VR-enabled MMORPG, but otherwise functions as any other MMO does. It was originally created by programmer Harald Hoerwick under the name Fragment.

The story behind The World itself is largely based on an epic poem known as the Epitaph of the Twilight, written by fictional poet Emma Wieland. Hoerwick was infatuated with Wieland, and when she died, he created Fragment in order to immortalize her work. Fragment, and subsequently The World, contains a secret black box project he had been working on: the ultimate AI named Aura. In universe, this black box data exists within the game, but it is unable to be analyzed. CC Corp, the company that buys Fragment from Hoerwick, beta tests it (with beta testing ending early for unknown reasons), and releases an upgraded version known as The World.

Because of the presence of this Ultimate AI, a lot of mysteries crop up in game, and some players are met with disaster as a result (ie. many fall into comas, have their consciousness trapped in game, etc etc.) and CC Corp is trying to cover up these disasters by deflecting responsibility. However, the AI has been aiding hackers within the game in stopping the mysterious corruption in the game's files.

...SO WHERE DO THE YUGIOH DUDES COME IN?

The parallels between Harald Hoerwick and Pegasus are obvious. It would also be really cool to have his dead fiancée have more of a role other than being Pegasus's muse and motivation. (Also, if you've played the .hack games and seen the creatures in game, then you know this is something he would have absolutely created.) I don't know much about Wieland, but it's implied that she was using Hoerwick's research and talents for her own ends, which is fascinating.

I like the idea of Kaiba Corp collaborating with I2 on this game, with I2 selling it to KC... I also imagine KC still having Gozaburo and The Big Five who would be dismissive of the players' concerns about the comas and such, going so far as to delete forum threads and accounts just to save face...

Then we have Seto Kaiba. The future CEO of Kaiba Corp. Current leader of the Cobalt Knights (group of admins in The World working for KC), and this AU's stand in for Balmung of the Azure Skies Eyes (hehe). I imagine he has NO IDEA what's going on behind those closed doors, but eventually learns what role KC is playing in regards to all of this, and vows to put an end to it on his terms. I also like to believe Mokuba is also part of the Cobalt Knights, and is one of the victims who gets his consciousness trapped in the game, very much like Tsukasa from .hack//SIGN.

And Noa Kaiba? Big Morganna Energy... In .hack//SIGN, Morganna was created to oversee the birth of the Ultimate AI, but would ultimately rebel from this purpose, stalling the development of the Ultimate AI and setting off a lot of disastrous events. I imagine Noa would also be, like, the consciousness uploaded into the system - the one who could access the black box data - but could not export it to KC. With his own father abandoning him within the mainframe, Noa is working to destroy the game from the inside out... and he's responsible for trapping Mokuba in-game.

I feel like if one's consciousness can be uploaded into the MMO, I think it could stand to reason that ghosts and spirits can exist there too...

Alright, so there's some background info... and sadly we're a bit intimidated trying to tackle it all, and also trying to keep up with the different continuities between the different anime and the video games... one day, we'll figure it out... and one day I won’t be too intimidated to tackle this story from Kaiba’ POV…

I swear to God the Palestinian flag or any mention of Gaza is an off switch for some brains; they will sooner demand to see vet bills for pet fundraisers than question why all these Gaza posts/DMs look the same, and it's mind-boggling. while im in the process of getting all my hyper online gripes aimed at like...maybe 20 ppl max who only exist on twt, i gotta say im not a fan of ppl calling their physiological symptoms related to estrogen hormone cycles 'periods' or 'PMSing' unless they have a uterus & are referring to the menstrual stage they're at. i absolutely believe trans femmes on estrogen HRT have hormone cycles that are similar to bio female estrogen cycles, especially the longer they're on it, but that's not a menstrual cycle.

i chalk up my discomfort with these responses to the fact that information about uteri, periods/menstruation, & estrogen hormone cycle symptoms are extremely under researched, not taken seriously, & treated like they're all the same thing. im of the opinion we all need to be precise in what language we use & make sure we're using accurate terminology when discussing reproductive health. it's already so difficult to communicate/receive accurate information about it, especially as it pertains to the bio female body & how estrogen affects humans. like, ppl without uteri (whether born without or surgically removed) straight up do not experience menstrual cycles nor do they have periods (colloquial term for shedding uterine lining). however, hormonal cycles do exist and it probably does cause them physiological symptoms that are similar to some menstrual cycle symptoms but that's not the same thing as a period/menstrual cycle. supposedly these can be tracked & i've seen a handful of ppl say they happen around the same time each week which is why they call them a period but idk, i've never seen anyone post data or studies so it's all just annecdotes & 2nd or 3rd hand info.

like i just dont say anything when i see those posts bc i dont think it'll do anything by confronting it on a 1-to-1 setting and it'd just be kinda rude to ppl who r already struggling to exist under very cruel medical/social systems that dont research their medical situations either. i also think we need wayyyyy more studies investigating women's reproductive health & how estrogen affects the human body bc we all know how scientific research on human bodies has been uh very androcentric. idk, it's honestly not that big of a deal in the grand scheme of things & this is probably just me being nitpicky about a very very very tiny percentage an already very small percent of the overall population, but it just rubs me wrong whenever i see it

Holy shit-- I am undiagnosed but suspected ADHD-tism, and also got tested for narcolepsy. I am able to sleep easily most of the time, but bc narcolepsy is genetic and I don't have the gene, they basically told me wow. Sucks. We can't help you uhhhh idiopathic hypersomnia.

But here's the thing- despite these sleep attacks usually happening at a certain time of day, there are a few solid factors.

First, it is IMPOSSIBLE not to succumb to. I've tried everything. It is like the muscles in my eyes, eyelids and mouth just Let Go. I have finally captured this on camera recently, and it's wild to see. Like lazy eye gone wild. The entire time I am AWARE and FURIOUSLY FIGHTING IT, which is incredibly stressful because, and this brings me to factor 2-

It only happens at work. It doesn't happen when I'm standing or walking around so far, only sitting, and ONLY if I am doing boring desk work. It is rarer now I am in an office job that mostly respects my autonomy as a person, but last it happened was a long meeting. I thought it was also triggered by lighting or bad air, but I'll tell you what. When I worked at a call center repeating a script all day, it happened DAILY. Naps on my break did not fix, nor did water, good food, good sleep, pain, sound, TALKING (it once happened while I was reciting the spiel and when I woke up the customer was continuing as normal, so I assume I just kept talking, perhaps slightly mumbled). As you can imagine, falling asleep in a meeting or while someone is directly talking to you is TERRIFYING in a work environment, and idk if stress made it worse, but BOREDOM definitely played a role. Other jobs it happened in; office admin, digital analyst (I made PowerPoints for consultants) and most recently, a LONG call about research.

Thirdly, the sleep attacks are never long, often a few seconds, but if I am fighting it off the symptoms attack again and again, for as long as my situation is unchanged. Getting up and walking can help, but often isn't appropriate in situations where it occurs (business meetings). It NEVER happens if I'm engaged, and I've sometimes been able to avoid it during data entry by playing YouTube essays in the background (though some data entry gives me a sense of accomplishment, which might help too).

I was waved off, told they give Ritalin to narcoleptic people, but I was not one. No gov support for me. Not even a name. Idiopathic hypersomnia just means Big Sleepy We Don't Know Why disease, in my case.

Again, it's hard to know for sure, but this is the only thing that's made any sense. If you also get these sleep attacks, please PLEASE feel free to message me to share experiences. I thought I was alone, and I really want to know if what happens to me is a Thing other people get.

Am I hitting a PEM wall, or is my ADHD brain just bored and trying to make me fall asleep (aka sleep intrusion) because it would literally rather be unconscious than bored...
