People ask me sometimes how I'm so confident that we can beat climate change.

There are a lot of reasons, but here's a major one: it would take a really, really long time for Earth to genuinely become uninhabitable for humans.

Humans have, throughout history, carved out a living for themselves in some of the most harsh, uninhabitable corners of the world. The Arctic Circle. The Sahara. The peaks of the Himalayas. The densest, most tropical regions of the Amazon Rainforest. The Australian Outback. etc. etc.

Frankly, if there had been a land bridge to Antarctica, I'm pretty sure we would have been living there for thousands of years, too. And in fact, there are humans living in Antarctica now, albeit not permanently.

And now, we're not even facing down apocalypse, anymore. Here's a 2022 quote from the author of The Uninhabitable Earth, David Wallace-Wells, a leader on climate change and the furthest thing from a climate optimist:

"The most terrifying predictions [have been] made improbable by decarbonization and the most hopeful ones practically foreclosed by tragic delay. The window of possible climate futures is narrowing, and as a result, we are getting a clearer sense of what’s to come: a new world, full of disruption but also billions of people, well past climate normal and yet mercifully short of true climate apocalypse. Over the last several months, I’ve had dozens of conversations — with climate scientists and economists and policymakers, advocates and activists and novelists and philosophers — about that new world and the ways we might conceptualize it. If we can adapt to some of the harshest climates on the planet - if we could adapt to them thousands of years ago, without any hint of modern technology - then I have every faith that we can adjust to the world that is coming.

What matters now is how fast we can change, because there is a wide, wide gap between "climate apocalypse" and "no harm done." We've already passed no harm done; the climate disasters are here, and they've been here. People have died from climate disasters already, especially in the Global South, and that will keep happening.

But as long as we stay alive - as long as we keep each other alive - we will have centuries to fix the effects of climate change, as much as we possibly can.

And looking at how far we've come in the past two decades alone - in the past five years alone - I genuinely think it is inevitable that we will overcome climate change.

So, we're going to survive climate change, as a species.

What matters now is making sure that every possible individual human survives climate change as well.

What matters now is cutting emissions and reinventing the world as quickly as we possibly can.

What matters now is saving every life and livelihood and way of life that we possibly can.

Everytime I see a radfem talk about the palestine and isreal situation, they never actually talk about whats happening in palestine or the history behind it. Like they never have a discussion about palestine itself.

Unless to say, that hating on jews isn't right. Which I agree with 100%. But why is that the only time the situation, or the GENOCIDE gets talked about in radfem spaces.

Why isn't radfems actually advocting/discussing about it, with deep analysis and data, as they do with other important discussions (fgm, racism, gender ideology, misogyny in many types, ect ect)

I believe that if you aren’t thoroughly educated on a topic I don’t think you should broadcast your uneducated opinions to ur followers. I do not consider myself educated enough on the history and politics to speak on the topic, but I assure you, there’s aplenty of discussion about it not only in radfem spaces but in all leftist spaces if you want to engage with it. Or even better, just do your own research. Stop relying on fucking social media accounts and tumblr blogs for your global political views. I kinda have to ask, why is it that every time I talk about being jewish or about antisemitism, my ask inbox is flooded with interrogations regarding a conflict I never claimed to be educated on? As far as I’m aware, I speak very little on the I/P conflict outside of responding to said asks. Even then, I ignore half of them.

I recognise antisemitism when I see it. I am cautious of who I tell I’m jewish. I keep updated on who’s yelling “fuck the jews” and who’s burning and graffitiing synagogues, only for my own safety. I’ll say something when someone in my community says “antisemitism isn’t real” or “I wouldn’t shed a tear if there was an organised rape against jewish women”, but I never claimed to be an expert on some many many decade old political issue. I’m not a journalist, I don’t research every happening in Israel and Palestine and its entire history. It’s simply not my area of expertise, but for some fucking reason when yall hear I’m jewish, you insist it must be, and interrogate me with questions about it. My blog and my interests are with women’s issues, not wars. I am jewish, sometimes I will speak about antisemitism and the jewish experience. “they never talk about the history” okay and yall don’t talk about the history of the civil war in Syria. Or immigration, or global warming or animal abuse. It’s just not my field. I do not know enough of the history to make claims and start debates. You cannot expect everyone to know everything. I have a fucking law degree to fill my brain with on top of women’s issues. Do not expect every social media influencer and blogger to know everything about every issue enough to speak on them all. We are not the president. We are (mostly) teenagers and young adults who have laundry to fold.

I have occasionally mentioned the rape involved in the conflict, but all that boils down to is men rape. no matter what their political alignment, no matter who they think owns what land. If men are so inclined and they are provided the opportunity, they rape women. That’s as far as it goes regarding my field.

I will not speak on an issue I do not feel confidently educated on. Just because I’m jewish doesn’t mean I know every working of the IDF, and I never claimed to. Please fuck off and stop interrogating jewish people on their opinions of the actions of a government/military they aren’t even governed by. And stop relying on and expecting fucking tumblr blogs to tell you about every issue in the world. Go ask someone who’s got it as their paid job.

oh i forgot to write up an update on the embark situation!

if you missed my posts last month (or didnt read them because they were certified walls of text): i got kep an embark test and in addition to the expected stuff, it also flagged him as having some genes related to copper storage disease - specifically that he had 1 gene for copper accumulation, and 2 genes that make accumulation less severe, meaning he inherited copper-related genes from both parents. when i did some reading into it,i couldnt find ANY studies or resources regarding copper disease in collies - it was almost entirely focused on labradors and dobermans, with an occasional hand-wavy comment of "sometimes seen in other breeds idk." because this test only got added by embark last month, i ended up doing a new test on stellina to check and see if she also had it.

basically my thinking was: A: does the presence of these genes mean that kep is actually at risk for copper storage disease, OR B: was this an incidental finding and the genes really only affect labs and dobes.

with stellina's test results, i think i'm pretty confident in guessing that the answer is B!

stellina's results also flagged as having one gene for copper accumulation - which, since i know that kep and stellina are pretty distantly related, indicates to me that it's much more likely that the genes are widespread in the greater collie gene pool as opposed to both of them just so happening to pick up a rare and harmful gene.

and most notably, now that's been a month and embark presumably has more data, they also had this new information listed:

those are HIGH numbers - and is an even bigger indicator that the gene, for whatever reason, simply doesn't affect these breeds that much. great pyrs, for example, are primarily working, livestock guardian dogs - there's no way that 80% of these dogs are suffering from copper storage disease. and while frenchies and cavs are certainly poster children for "breed with lots of serious health problems", copper storage isn't one of them. given the extreme popularity of frenchies, if 90% of them had this disease, someone would have noticed.

(interestingly, last week when i looked at this instead of pyrs it had pembroke corgis listed in that spot at around the same numbers - i wonder how many other breeds have large percentages of this gene but embark is just only listing the top few. this is such a new test that i expect a lot of information to change)

so i'm guessing that copper storage genes are actually pretty common in dogs - especially breeds with known low genetic diversity, such as collies, cavs, and dobermans. but given that there's nothing noted in studies about breeds besides labradors, dobermans, and a few terrier breeds, it just might not affect the rest of them. similarly, i know stellina carries the gene for "saddle tan" coloration, as do a certain %age of collies - but collies don't come in saddle tan. it's suspected there's another gene needed to "'activate" the pattern that's missing from collies. i'd guess the same thing is happening here - lots of dogs have the gene, but the "activation" genetics are only in a few specific breeds.

i'm definitely still going to be keeping a close eye on it, the test only released in May so it's still very early and i imagine they're getting a ton of data from this - would love some research into if my thinking is correct. if you have a dog that's gotten an embark health test from may and onwards this year, i'd be interested to know what breed(s) your dog is and if they also carry these genes. but i think, overall, this indicates that it's more incidental than a real concern.

my final conclusion: idk they seem to run on vibes. like. it's definitely not a Every Time Absolutely, Have Manners™ type of situation. but at least a little clapping each podium, not necessarily limited to p1. there does not appear to be an upwards trend or anything, chronologically. it seems to vary (though i might say that they do it reflexively if the clapping starts earlier and thus clap more for those podiums... hmmm).

THE CULTURE IN SOUL SOCIETY

Okay basically my issue with this is really fucking simple, some characters like Yoruichi for example CLEARLY have an ethnicity and background from another country to them, BUT it's never really shown in depth or talked about it, all Soul society is like almost strictly japanese based and that bothers me SO MUCH

Cause Shinigami live a LONG TIME, hell almost ageless/immortal and not only can Shinigami be born in soul society but people BECOME Shinigami in the afterlife or even when alive, so HOW THE HELL isn't Soul society extremely culturally diverse and complex??? Like there's no way the first Shinigami were only japanese or something, and yeah you can say it's because the souls slowly forget their time when alive and it becomes more instinct/a blur, but there's no way they didn't bother to share their culture or anything before forgetting, plus Shinigami must travel the whole entire world due to hollows and so on, HOW NOT A SINGLE SHINIGAMI got influenced by the outside and brought that as a change to Soul society???

Hell I'm thinking about this more than kubo ever did but COME ON, wouldn't it be interesting to see a lively and full of other countries and IT'S OWN CULTURE SHAPING Soul society? PLUS perhaps Shinigami using all languages or CREATING A NEW LANGUAGE FROM SCRATCH that only them could use/learn? Which hey would be a lot more safer considering no mortal could communicate or get access to info only Shinigami should have, which would make a lot more sense in this type of society BUILD AS A WHOLE SINCE HUMANITY START

And hey it's fine if they choose a language already created, but WHY japanese? In my eyes latin should be used due to being what originated a lot of other languages and so on, picking what CREATED the languages not THE language itself

IT COULD GO AS FAR AS EXPANDING the SS to multiple Soul societies or seireitei of different countries and cultures they could all create some sort of fast travel to get there, like idk, japanese Soul society, Italian soul society, Brazilian soul society, and then the main one connecting everything like we see in the anime/manga as the actual soul society

oh boy it IS. tng update time. tonight, just under an hour ago, we finished watching "chain of command" parts i & ii. i'm not differentiating between them even though one had. WWWWAY more nudity than the other. hey did you guys know tng can occasionally pop the FUCK off

to me this episode felt like a backdoor pilot to ds9 which we will be doing tomorrow because it had cardassians in it and basically the only thing i know about ds9 is that gay cardassian that wants to fuck the doctor. and he's like the definition of the predatory gays/predatory gaze joke from what i have seen from gifs. so i was expecting like, some minor cardassian shenanigans and mild flirtiness

Hi. I've seen a list of professions that could work for people with autism but there is always "journalism" in this list. And as someone who is currently studying and having practice as almost a real journalist a can't see how this profession would do great for autistic people like me. It's stressful. It has to be fast, quick, so many social interactions, so many situations you are never ready for. And I'm "lucky" to be in a "quiet" place since the others have more rough redactions

Sonic Audio Tools

VGAudio

Audacity (My recommendation, alternatives may work)

Switch explorer is used to extract the files from the game to be modded

Sonic audio tools is used to extract the .acb archives the songs (.hca files) are packed in, and to pack the files back in

VGAudio is used to convert the .hca files (the actual audio files) to .wav to be opened and edited in audacity, and to convert them back to .hca before being repacked

Lastly, audacity is used to edit the .wav files to put whatever you want into the files, completely replace it's contents or whatever, go wild

LET'S GET THIS SHOW ON THE ROAD!

I'll add like a pastebin link here later with every song's internal number so you can easily find the one you're looking for and extract it, too lazy right now tho :P

Open switch explorer, choose to load up your nsp/xci of the game (file > open) and navigate to data > sound

then, find the song you wish to edit and right click > extract file, then drop it in a good spot for later

Afterwards, open two file explorer windows, one in the sonic audio tools folder and the other where you extracted the .acb file. We do this so you can easily drag the .acb into the ACBeditor.exe found in the sonic audio tools folder:

this will produce a folder in the same directory as the .acb sharing its name, and inside you will find your .hca files:

these are the actual audio files, but we can't edit them yet, because no program knows what to do with a .hca! First, we need to convert them to .wav files, so boot up VGAudio, click open file, pick the .hca file (you need to repeat this process for all 4+ files), choose to convert to WAVE and hit save file.

wherever you saved it, you now have a .wav of the audio file, feel free to give it a listen! If it's just silence, don't worry, some of the songs are like that.

Now these files require a little explanation, the one ending in 0 to 2 are all related to the song's into, opening, and cut scene loops, basically everything you stop hearing once you've started playing the level properly. The file ending in a 3 is the main loop, the part that plays so long as you keep playing through the level. In some rare cases, there will be even more files, or less! I haven't done enough of my own research yet, so you can come to your own conclusions on those, shouldn't be hard to figure out once you get how these work.

Anyways, now that that's outta the way, audacity time! Individually open, edit, and export each .wav you extracted, again as .wav (keep the file name the same!) using audacity, make any changes you want, import other files of any format into it on a new track and remove the original when you're done, whatever, but I recommend keeping the lenght (not filesize) of the audio file the same, idk if the game will have a stroke if it's too long or not long enough. (Also a lot of the song info like BPM is hardcoded so any old song won't work if you just drop it in here, stick to mad rat monday songs for your first edits like I did, those work the best, but do be ready to splice them to extend the main loop (file 3)) (also line it up properly, it can't be off beat from the original, you gotta find a point in the songs where the waveform is similar and use it to line it up exactly right)

This part's kinda all up to you, but I can provide some basic audacity tips specific to your situation if required. Or just general ones, if you can't wrap your head around audacity :P

once they're all edited, use VGAudio to reverse the process, open the .wav files and choose to convert to HCA, and save them, maybe backup the original .hca files instead of replacing them if you want to (i just added an 'og' to the start of the original file's name)

then, remove all the junk from the folder besides the new .hca files you made (or move them to another, identically named folder separately), and drag the folder into the same acbeditor.exe from the sonic audio tools folder, just like you did with the acb the first time. It will pack your folder back into an acb in the same directory as the folder you dragged in (it'll replace the original if you kept them all in the same directory, but don't worry you can just extract the file again if you need the original). Now, we set up the mod!

This part's easy, just make a new folder with the name of your mod, in there make one named romfs, in there make one named data, and in there make one named sound, then drop your new acb file into the sound folder. The mod's done! Drag it into the mod directory on your real switch (idk how that works I don't have a modded switch) or in yuzu right click mad rat dead, choose open mod directory and drop the mod folder in there. Then right click the game, hit properties, and the mod should show up with the name you chose for the top folder. Here's some screenshots for all that:

Tick the box to enable the mod and boot up the game! That's it!

Some .hack//YGO AU thoughts under the Read More, bc if I don’t breathe it into existence it will NEVER BE………

We've really only ever seen .hack//SIGN and between us, we've maybe played 3 out of 4 of the PS2 games (we started replaying .hack//Infection again recently!) so our knowledge of the series is vague and limited at best... I'll look into the rest, but .hack is just a large multimedia franchise with SO MUCH BACKGROUND STUFF HAPPENING

anyway, BACKGROUND STUFF (.hack is a niche little project so I’ll summarize a little bit of what’s going):

The story of .hack takes place in an alternate reality in which there’s a technological rise of a new version of the internet following a major global computer network disaster, and the mysterious events regarding the wildly popular fictional massively multiplayer online role-playing game The World.

The World is a fairly standard VR-enabled MMORPG, but otherwise functions as any other MMO does. It was originally created by programmer Harald Hoerwick under the name Fragment.

The story behind The World itself is largely based on an epic poem known as the Epitaph of the Twilight, written by fictional poet Emma Wieland. Hoerwick was infatuated with Wieland, and when she died, he created Fragment in order to immortalize her work. Fragment, and subsequently The World, contains a secret black box project he had been working on: the ultimate AI named Aura. In universe, this black box data exists within the game, but it is unable to be analyzed. CC Corp, the company that buys Fragment from Hoerwick, beta tests it (with beta testing ending early for unknown reasons), and releases an upgraded version known as The World.

Because of the presence of this Ultimate AI, a lot of mysteries crop up in game, and some players are met with disaster as a result (ie. many fall into comas, have their consciousness trapped in game, etc etc.) and CC Corp is trying to cover up these disasters by deflecting responsibility. However, the AI has been aiding hackers within the game in stopping the mysterious corruption in the game's files.

...SO WHERE DO THE YUGIOH DUDES COME IN?

The parallels between Harald Hoerwick and Pegasus are obvious. It would also be really cool to have his dead fiancée have more of a role other than being Pegasus's muse and motivation. (Also, if you've played the .hack games and seen the creatures in game, then you know this is something he would have absolutely created.) I don't know much about Wieland, but it's implied that she was using Hoerwick's research and talents for her own ends, which is fascinating.

I like the idea of Kaiba Corp collaborating with I2 on this game, with I2 selling it to KC... I also imagine KC still having Gozaburo and The Big Five who would be dismissive of the players' concerns about the comas and such, going so far as to delete forum threads and accounts just to save face...

Then we have Seto Kaiba. The future CEO of Kaiba Corp. Current leader of the Cobalt Knights (group of admins in The World working for KC), and this AU's stand in for Balmung of the Azure Skies Eyes (hehe). I imagine he has NO IDEA what's going on behind those closed doors, but eventually learns what role KC is playing in regards to all of this, and vows to put an end to it on his terms. I also like to believe Mokuba is also part of the Cobalt Knights, and is one of the victims who gets his consciousness trapped in the game, very much like Tsukasa from .hack//SIGN.

And Noa Kaiba? Big Morganna Energy... In .hack//SIGN, Morganna was created to oversee the birth of the Ultimate AI, but would ultimately rebel from this purpose, stalling the development of the Ultimate AI and setting off a lot of disastrous events. I imagine Noa would also be, like, the consciousness uploaded into the system - the one who could access the black box data - but could not export it to KC. With his own father abandoning him within the mainframe, Noa is working to destroy the game from the inside out... and he's responsible for trapping Mokuba in-game.

I feel like if one's consciousness can be uploaded into the MMO, I think it could stand to reason that ghosts and spirits can exist there too...

Alright, so there's some background info... and sadly we're a bit intimidated trying to tackle it all, and also trying to keep up with the different continuities between the different anime and the video games... one day, we'll figure it out... and one day I won’t be too intimidated to tackle this story from Kaiba’ POV…

So I debated replying to this for a number of reasons: first, it’s a good sentiment; second, it makes people happy; and third, OP is correct: religion will always be around. Religion absolutely makes some people’s lives better and adds to the color of human experience and not acknowledging that would be a blatant lie. But OP is also doing some sleight of hand here: ritual is being conflated with religion, and while religion requires ritual, ritual does not require religion.

So, personally speaking: I fucking despise religion. I fucking loathe it. I have an automatic nervousness around religious people--I don’t fucking care what it is, my hackles go up. Now, there are many reasons for this--not the least of which is me waiting for the other shoe to drop (the religious person inevitably turning off their brain and doing something Religiously Shitty to me). See, I was raised evangelical fundamentalist. I escaped about twelve years ago. In the process of escaping, I began researching religion in general. I wondered if there were true faiths or if ours just got it that fucking wrong. In the process, I found a story about a religious tourist who went to a southeastern Asian country and stayed with a woman who was taking care of a disabled boy.

“You are so good, taking care of this child,” said the tourist.

“He must have done something terrible in his past life to be born this way,” said the woman.

I suddenly realized this kid was going to grow up thinking they were suffering for something that they had never done. They were going to carry the burden of some accident of nature’s all their lives. In addition to the suffering that their disability had caused them, they were going to suffer internally for NO REASON AT ALL.

Buddhism had been on my short list for “least shitty faiths.” It immediately evaporated. And that’s when I realized faith needed to get its fucking ass kicked. It needs to be deconstructed, as any human construct must be deconstructed. It must be acknowledged not only as a bringer of the good, but a bringer of the bad. This isn’t bigotry, it’s just true, and it should be done because people are more important than religion. You think all that anti-trans bullshit in my country is coming from a void? I can go point at the verses in the Bible that they’re whipping out right the fuck now.

The problem with religion is multifold. If it could stay in its fucking lane, that would be one thing. But the problems are that religion is a worldview and an ideal, and religion cannot be proven or disproven.

The ideal cannot survive in an imperfect world. It perishes the minute it’s born. Life is just too complex and there are too many contexts all grinding up against one another. Too many ingredients, too many different environments, too many different kinds of people. Just one problem: what happens when your worldview doesn’t actually apply to the world? That means it’s relative to you and not a worldview at all, really. And how can it be ideal if it doesn’t apply perfectly to every situation?

With this comes cognitive dissonance. With this comes puritanism: moral performativism (for there is no way to PROVE you’re in-the-know, only a way to show it) and the urge to control other people. That control inevitably takes the form of punishment: guilt, shame, social approbation--all the way to imprisonment, suicide, and murder. Why? idk some invisible power somewhere thinks I’m fucking up. They’ve said nothing to me about it, but y’all seem real nervous. Shit what do you mean you’re throwing me out of the house

Now, the ideal is not only religion’s; it’s also present in political and other non-religious ideologies. But the difference is that those political and non-religious ideologies can be debated to some extent. You can use real-life experiences and data and change your mind accordingly. But religion doesn’t work this way. Religion does not problem-solve according to data: it problem-solves according to authority. Authority tends to be static; authority tends to demand a strange inaccessible world where nothing changes. Authority is the domain of the old looking back with rose-colored glasses.

Because that’s the next problem: nobody can get ahold of the Powers That Be. What they say cannot be proven. Their existences can’t even be proven. And while there were multiple ways that I personally coped with this (constant Bible reading and praying, looking for signs, paying attention to how I felt), the inevitable next best thing is Authorities. Other human beings. That’s how you end up with an ancient text from the goddamn bronze age informing modern politics in my goddamn country. It’s an authority. Is it correct? I mean it’s an authority. Oh you know who else is an authority? My parents--the preachers--the law--the President--

Never you. Never, ever you.

In direct contrast, science is great because you can say, at some point: “Aw, we got something wrong! Now we need to change how we approach things.” But in religion, change is anathema. This is what the olds said. Which olds? They fucking died they are so old. When did they die? The stone age? Okay great let me interpret my modern problems by the words of this guy who thought their king was established by the will of god and that diseases were caused by devil worship. Oh and those themes are still in the book by the way. Which is how you end up with religious fascists and my sister telling me that my mom’s Parkinsons was caused by devil possession.

Problem-solving also suffers as a result. I have had a big problem asking questions my entire life because my religion made kids the tools of their parents. They weren’t individuals; they needed to be seen and not heard; they were being groomed for a lifetime of religious service. Authority said it was so, and so it was so. The problem is that asking probing questions is an important part of learning, intelligence, self-reliance, and resiliency. For example, I tried to pretend that Santa was real up until I was about 12. I saw no difference between my parents telling me God was real and Santa was real, and I wanted to honor them. I mean, they’re old, they know what’s up, right?

This also means it fucks with how you interpret the right actions to take in any given situation. If I’m looking for signs from God to solve my problems, and I think it’s God who told me to go to the principal to tattle on other students for doing something that ultimately doesn’t matter, guess what I’m going to do even if all the facts point toward some fundamentally better solution.

Religion will always be around, regardless of what assholes like me think about it. I will never harass anybody for it, I will never judge anyone for it--I’ve been there, I got the t-shirt, I intimately understand why people want it. But I also know what it does. I’ve been the furthest it can go. It’s a fucking curse.

God will have to ask me for forgiveness.

Listen, I know it's very much a thing that utopian leftists think that religions will simply stop existing once all of our material needs are met, but that is just not the case.

Human beings need ritual. If we are deprived of ritual, we make new ritual. It does not matter if you call it religion or state or whatever it is you call it, human beings will keep making up new rituals.

You cannot stop us, and saying 'this ritual which I like and doesn't hurt anyone else is fine, but that ritual which you like and doesn't hurt anyone else is bad' is just bigotry.

When I say 'you cannot stop us,' I literally mean you cannot stop human beings from making up rituals and religions. Leave a group of six year old girls alone near a mud pit for an hour and you will come back to a newly-minted faith. We make ritual. We make culture. That is what we do.

No, Judaism will not 'naturally cease to exist' when all of our material needs are met. What will happen then is that the Jews will get Jewier, because we will have all the time in the world to study Torah and write stories and make Jewish art. If you met all of my material needs tomorrow, two days from now there would be six more hamsas, a complete bound copy of all the volumes of the Talmud, and a shit-ton of giant Jewish art prints in my house.

You cannot stop people from making up culture and religion. It is, arguably, the thing which makes us human, one of the defining features of our collective humanity. We will always make up silly songs and new religions, and the idea that we'll just give all of that up for some vanilla yogurt and taupe jumpsuits utopian existence is absurd and beyond belief.

But yeah, that's a good point! Mina's response to society/god punishing her in spite of her perfect obedience is to become even more perfect. Which is obviously not sustainable behaviour in the long term, but does have the handy benefit of, as the Twilight fandom phrased it back in the olden days, letting Mina be Born Old as her primary vampiric trait. What with all of her unnatural patience and self control under Dracula's... IDK hypnosis? Telepathy?

In a way, we have to be grateful for her martyr complex and pathological obsession with moral purity genuinely bordering on OCD. Without all that, she may have gone as feral and violent as poor Lucy at basically any time.

But thank god (Bram Stoker) for Jonathan Harker not having the same moral obsessions and compulsions. They (Brams both stoker and vh) were not kidding when they called him wildly psychologically resilient.

Sorry, Jack, but Jonathan is the undisputed king of scientific methodology in this story. When a thing he does not know is true (god is good) contradicts a thing he personally has experienced (Mina is good), he sides with the existing body of evidence. When faced with a question (how to kill Dracula) he looked at his preliminary body of research (the novel Dracula up to that point), searched for a coherent and testable hypothesis (if a shovel was good a murderin' knife is better), prepared the experiment (bought a murderin' knife), recorded his methodology and data for future repetition (his chapters and epilogue), executed his methodology (killed Dracula), and summarized his findings (mostly his epilogue).

Meanwhile Jack doesn't even know which dates his cylinders have on them so that's about that.

Anyway, dragging Seward aside for the moment! Jonathan and Holmes can be besties in questionable but relatively well executed science because he really looked at the facts and said 'okay well lift god in one hand and Mina in the other and only one is real; fuck the invisible divine let's apply our practical skills to Killing A Fucking Vampire.'

And he was right to do it!

I don't have any opinions on how all this relates to Quincey as Mina's sworn knight situation. Yet.

BTS Dynamic Breakdown & 1k Celebration

Hello everyone! This is a semi-detailed guide to certain dynamics and some kinks I think BTS might have. These are just my own personal observations and ideas I have after stanning the group for the last 5 years! This is all purely speculation! 

I approached this more like a research topic than anything too sexy so I’m sorry friends idk what happened lol (but y’all know me, there is some spice ;D)~ For explaining my points I’m using a scale me and my sister came up with years ago. It’s really dumb (once you see the name it’s even dumber) but it’s something I keep in mind to this day whenever I write smut! I guess this can clue you guys into my methodology, and maybe if you’re a smut writer as well or even if you have an active imagination like I do this might help you with any head cannons you might create! 

I've been sitting on this since August last year so finally glad to have this out :') Please don't mind any mistakes or anything, finishing this up took some rushing so I promise to make things a little neater when I have more time~

THIS BREAKDOWN IS QUICK AND EXTREMELY SUMMARIZED!!! Eventually I might post a full breakdown of the scale! 

Category Breakdown:

Sub (0-10%): Likes to give up pretty much all control (an extreme end). If lower than 5% likely to be associated with some type of trauma— likely to want to be submissive 24/7. 6-10% likely have some type of subspace.

Bottom (10-30%): Likes to give up control but not completely opposed to topping. 

Switch (30-70%): Likely to travel into top or bottom categories depending on the situation, control is less important depending on placement, pretty flexible on the scale.

Top (70-90%): Likes to be in control, but is not opposed to bottoming occasionally.

Dom (90-100%): Likes to be in control pretty much all the time. If higher than 95% likely to be associated with some type of trauma— likely to want to be dominant 24/7. 90-94% range from typical hard doms to soft— ex masters/dominatrixes. 

Kinky Island (outliers of the data): For certain reasons they do not fit the traditional format of the scale. Will go into more information in a future breakdown! 

Vocab: 

Point of Reference: This is the exact percentage on where you place someone on the scale. This point is used for determining their range. Consider this the “average” of their range.

Range: Sex always isn’t consistent, but there is a typical range no matter the situation. Based on “personal” data (such as possible kinks, preferences, lifestyle, partner’s data, etc), shows the likely dynamic push and pull this person is willing to undergo. 

__-leaning: Whether they are on the top or bottom half of that category. 

Important note: 

The way to use the scale… you put the person you’re analyzing on the right side of the scale and their partner on the left. For ideal matches their points of reference and ranges should be relatively close to each other or only slightly intersect. The further apart or the more the points intersect likely indicate a incompatible sexual match. 

Here’s a diagram I made for some extra help! Those marked in green are ok matches and those marked in red are likely incompatible.

Now onto the fun~ 

Kim Seokjin:

68%— switch, top-leaning with a range of top and bottom

Ideal Partner Range: 30-75%

Ok so honestly it was only recently that I feel like I got an idea of where Seokjin might lie on the scale. Seokjin I don’t think was as obvious for me as some of the other members but I think I got an idea now! He’s a hard guy to analyze, especially about a topic like this, he’s just harder to observe. 

There are a lot of assumptions about him, that he’s vanilla per say and I would like to counter this argument. This is where the top leaning side of his range comes in. Seokjin is the type that likes to take over during casual sex. Early mornings before he needs to leave, he’ll get on top of you and fuck you so you’ll miss him all day. In very casual scenarios he likes to lead, likes to be on top. He loves the way you grasp his broad shoulders, loves your moans. He’s a very laid back top. I don’t think he would possess too many kinks that lie in the top or dom range. He is just a natural lead, but well he’s still a switch. 

This is where it gets interesting. If your times line up in the day and you actually have time to just... fuck, a different side of Seokjin comes out. He has mentioned that he enjoys being choked and tied up in the casual joking sense, but the jokes had a pattern that to some point there might be some truth behind his laughs. I think if the day and time allows it he wants to be fucked. I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s a sub, his range doesn’t go that far, but I think he just wants to be played with. Likes to see how much fun you can have with his body. It may even be a way he fuels that top-leaning side of himself. 

This man would have a subtle praise kink. Not as big as you think Mr. WWH would have but it’s definitely there. He finds a lot of pleasure in knowing how much you enjoy his body and how much you love him. Wouldn’t really ask you to say it, but would definitely tell you how much he loves it. I don’t think any of his kinks are too extreme. He never dips into dom or sub territory (his range again, doesn’t permit that). I think he’s more so for soft, feelily sex (that romantic shit) on a normal basis but likes to have fun here and there. 

I think Seokjin would be slow getting to this point in the relationship though. He’s a lot like Yoongi in that regard, in that I think it would take him a while to even catch feelings. Even in an adorable friends to lovers scenario, he would be slow moving in trying anything with you. I think he’s modest and traditional in the sense that he prefers to wait a little while before taking that step. 

I do think the dynamics would change if he was with a guy— his point of reference might cement itself in the top or bottom category, depending on his partner’s point of reference! 

His ideal off day: 

You spend the entire day doing cute domestic things together, like cooking and doing laundry. You take a break in between playing games and somehow playing Mario Odyssey ends in a whole debate about who’s really better at games. The match got a little too heated so you both ended up cuddling up as you watched all 11 seasons of the Walking Dead (you made it through 3). 

The sun eventually sets and your cuddling session ends up getting quite handsy. You finally have enough and bring him to the bedroom, tie him up and have your way with him. You’d have your hands around his throat as he eventually fills you up with his cum.

“So pretty, you always make me feel so good…” You sigh, seeing the way his eyes rolled back in pleasure and hearing his soft sighs of relief.

Bottom Yoongi agenda stans rise please! Yoongi to me has the lowest point of reference of any member of bts. But well it’s a little complicated lol. See the thing about Yoongi… I honestly don’t think this man can dom like some of y’all want him to. Yoongi has been a person I’ve seen written with some of the most extremist, darkest kinks given to him. Now let me rant a bit. I hope this doesn’t stem from the fact that Yoongi has this stereotype of being the “savage and cold” member because as most of you should know that ain’t it my friends. YOONGI IS A BIG SOFTY THAT JUST WANTS LOVE. This man is not the dom you’re looking for. His range I don’t think could ever really reach dom levels. He can move to a top-leaning switch but that’s only if his partner is more sub-leaning.

This man just wants to be cared for and taken care of. I wouldn’t necessarily call it a subspace but I think something that Yoongi would appreciate with a partner is just being cared for. He works hard all day long and comes home and wants to be loved. He wants to let go of all his worries and just let you have your fun with him.

Yoongi though, I don’t think he would necessarily be a subway sandwich that can go to <10%. The OSS Scale is based on control and Yoongi would like to give it, but he isn’t a major sub in the sense— especially revolving around kinks, he’s more laid back. He’s a bottom, meaning he more so prefers being in that position, and giving his partner most of the control. I will say though that he can top slightly in that sense— when needed he can step up to the plate (if you’re tired etc). 

I feel like this might potentially be a deal breaker in the question of a long lasting relationship. Yoongi can top occasionally but again he prefers letting someone else take control. He wouldn’t want this to be a dealbreaker, but subconsciously, if he was with a more sub-leaning switch, he would get a bit exhausted and would not be completely satisfied as far his sex life would go.

Yoongi is another fucks with feelings type of guy, but like on crack or sumn. He to like you in order for him to have any type of sexual feelings. Yoongi in those interviews where they would be asked about romantic relationships, he would always emphasize feelings. I’ll go more into this when I do a gen relationship breakdown but Yoongi is an emotional guy. 

I honestly don’t think he’ll be that interested in rough kinky sex (not to say it won’t happen). He considers sex to be an intimate thing between two people who really like each other and is more into passion than just hardcore sex. Not fucking, but a making love type guy. Holy shit-- I am undiagnosed but suspected ADHD-tism, and also got tested for narcolepsy. I am able to sleep easily most of the time, but bc narcolepsy is genetic and I don't have the gene, they basically told me wow. Sucks. We can't help you uhhhh idiopathic hypersomnia.

But here's the thing- despite these sleep attacks usually happening at a certain time of day, there are a few solid factors.

First, it is IMPOSSIBLE not to succumb to. I've tried everything. It is like the muscles in my eyes, eyelids and mouth just Let Go. I have finally captured this on camera recently, and it's wild to see. Like lazy eye gone wild. The entire time I am AWARE and FURIOUSLY FIGHTING IT, which is incredibly stressful because, and this brings me to factor 2-

It only happens at work. It doesn't happen when I'm standing or walking around so far, only sitting, and ONLY if I am doing boring desk work. It is rarer now I am in an office job that mostly respects my autonomy as a person, but last it happened was a long meeting. I thought it was also triggered by lighting or bad air, but I'll tell you what. When I worked at a call center repeating a script all day, it happened DAILY. Naps on my break did not fix, nor did water, good food, good sleep, pain, sound, TALKING (it once happened while I was reciting the spiel and when I woke up the customer was continuing as normal, so I assume I just kept talking, perhaps slightly mumbled). As you can imagine, falling asleep in a meeting or while someone is directly talking to you is TERRIFYING in a work environment, and idk if stress made it worse, but BOREDOM definitely played a role. Other jobs it happened in; office admin, digital analyst (I made PowerPoints for consultants) and most recently, a LONG call about research.

Thirdly, the sleep attacks are never long, often a few seconds, but if I am fighting it off the symptoms attack again and again, for as long as my situation is unchanged. Getting up and walking can help, but often isn't appropriate in situations where it occurs (business meetings). It NEVER happens if I'm engaged, and I've sometimes been able to avoid it during data entry by playing YouTube essays in the background (though some data entry gives me a sense of accomplishment, which might help too).

I was waved off, told they give Ritalin to narcoleptic people, but I was not one. No gov support for me. Not even a name. Idiopathic hypersomnia just means Big Sleepy We Don't Know Why disease, in my case.

there was a moment in this episode where wesley was once again right and told to buzz off. in the next episode he does something stupid and they spend the entire time defending him. i DONT understand why it always has to be like this. i don't even dislike wesley, i just dislike the way the other characters are written is reponse to him. he's like the theo teenwolf of tng (dont get me started)

big moment in this ep was the potential mutiny. once again it's too early for this shit. i wanted some episodes where they explore planets and fight some guys (like the ferengi ep!) before we did anything deep. i bet if this happened in like seasons 3-5 i'd be beside myself about it the way i was when it almost happened in tos. but i don't like some of these guys yet, let alone care deeply about them (except data, who is my best friend).
