You would think that after 10 years of living with IBS - I would be a pro at avoiding my triggers. Nope - sometimes that stress craving just hits and I can't help myself from devouring a bag of jelly babies (please tell me I am not the only one!)
So, I wanted to share these tips again as a reminder for all my digestive and IBS spoonies: It is ok if you accidentally tigger yourself - it happens to all of us. You are not alone!
Sending spoonie hugs!
If you trigger yourself accidentally with IBS
Remember - don't beat yourself up. It will happen to pretty much everyone at some point.
Follow your doctors instructions in case of a flare, take it easy, and be kind to your body.

A few things that help me when I trigger my IBS:
Hot water bottle (although I let it cool down a little before I use it to prevent hot water bottle rash (which you do not want, trust me))
Distraction (100% valid)
Gentle foods - crackers and dry toast initially (especially if I have badly flared myself), and then slowly get back into normal food
100% avoid the potential trigger food for at least a week to give my tummy time to settle
Sending spoonie hugs

part of what makes IBS so fascinating to me is its position both within the world of Tyria and the story it was trying to tell, and the larger metatextual circumstances surrounding its development. because, like, The Icebrood Saga is a story that's, IMO, largely about placing individual actions in complex systems of power, and what happens when those systems begin to unravel.
-> Can you help us deal with Bangar? Aurene: He's a part of a larger web. Strands connecting to strands. Cut one out and nothing changes, not really. Aurene: It's hard to explain. But seeing how those strands connect... Taking one life won't solve your problems. (x)
so, like, you have Ryland, who talks about "playing his cards right" but has really been dealt a bad hand from the start and can only keep playing bad cards - the one decent play he gets in Turnabout to try and get out of the game gets interrupted by an arrogant bastard killing Cinder, and it's downhill from there. it's not necessarily that it was always going to end the way it did with him, but you're fighting an uphill battle against his upbringing, against his relationship with Bangar, against all cultural context. he insists that Jormag didn't coerce him into anything, and that's true; he ends up as Jormag's champion because, at least from Ryland's perspective, there's really no other option by the time he has the bow in his paws.
likewise, you have Braham, wrestling with being the norn of prophecy, slowly (slower if Champions didn't have to be rushed out of the door, I imagine) coming to terms with what exactly that means. he knows from the beginning that either Jormag dies, or he dies. he knows this, and knows that it's always going to end one way or the other. the prophecy unfurls, and Jormag awakens, and it becomes more and more obvious how it's supposed to go. He bonds with Primordus, because there's really no other option by the time Jormag is threatening to freeze the world ten times over to ice their brother out of existence. and sure, it might still destroy him even if Jormag doesn't kill him, but he doesn't get the luxury of thinking about that.
and then you have the Commander, who should be in control of the narrative, because in-universe they're the Commander and out-of-universe they're the player character, but there are multiple points where that agency is taken away from you - Smodur bombs the bunker and interrupts your negotiation, Ryland puts a bullet through Smodur's skull. you're always going to try and save the farm, but not every problem has an easy solution. the Legions are built on centuries of war and violence and hypervigilance against external threats; Bangar is not an isolated bad actor but a product of that system, and the gears of the war machine churn on both sides of Drizzlewood. you (and Aurene) are largely an audience to the family tragedy - tragedies, plural, both the relationships between Rytlock/Crecia/Ryland and Jormag/Primordus - as they break down.
"The Balance" isn't sustainable in its current state, but there isn't really a good alternative at this point. you can't back down when you're three dragons in (we tried that after Mordremoth, and Balthazar wouldn't have it and Kralkatorrik couldn't stomach it), and Jormag and Primordus (mostly Jormag) are threatening to escalate as the encroaching void eats away at them both. there's this real sense that they just have to make the best of a bad situation, and hope that the damage is minimal. the universe itself is on a cresting wave and it's about to crash, heading into End of Dragons.
so you have all of that, and it's also the chapter of GW2 where the developers are hit with major studio-disrupting internal problems and a fucking global lockdown. your story gets interrupted, there's not much you can do about it, but you have to keep going and make the best of it, even when the fate of arenanet itself seems uncertain.
what happens in the aftermath, after the dragonstorm clears?
#this is to say nothing about aurene. who spends 80% of the season as a non-actor. young and afraid of her own foresight#not wanting to disturb the fragile ecosystem of the narrative - knowing what she is as an elder dragon/force of nature. needing to anyways.#idk i just think it's neat. i like IBS.#gw2#ibs spoilers#anyways nero out here making me have Thoughts#admittedly a longer post than i originally planned on making. this is just the tip of the iceberg i could talk about this all day baby

My very unscientific hypothesis for Skully placing 2nd in a yume popularity poll reported by raven-at-the-writing-desk (it be a jpn yume poll and I am not Japanese but this is really a thinly-veiled excuse for me to try to defend my own brainrot.)
Design/aesthetic/visuals
• a nice blend of elegant and spooky. skeletons are SUCH a cool theme and I like suits ok (my favorite halloween dorm costumes are Heartslabyul's)
• big shades make it all mysterious but when they're off he has the eyebags and big eyes and shadows over the upper half of the face that joins his fluffy hair to make him look like scruffy wet cat of a creature.
• swirly orange eyes that pop because of the mostly monochrome palette of everything else.
• whatever is going on with those lips + teeth gaps make you look at the lips and teeth more and add to the skeleton look
•cool gloves that get shown off with that silly pose (I am was a victim of esprei's submas drawings yes)
• tall
• he has a blushing sprite. Blushing sprites w/ embarrassed faces are objectively cute
Personality/Story/etc.
• "Gentlemanly." And gentlemanly reason is he wants to emulate his idol that is CUTE
• the prefect ended up lying on him one way or another. Also. Hand kiss that left a horrible first impression on everyone but what are the joseimuke people here for if not to kick their feet at the hint of otome in canon media?
• A peaceful Halloween just doing nothing but spending time in a dark room with company does seem relaxing, actually, when you're very tired.
• Bit of a freak. Just a little. Sure he drugged his idol and kidnapped the Prefect and Grim but was pretty nice about it. Tied them up but gave them sweets. Like the bar is in hell but that's tame compared to the other stuff Yuu went through. (Also yandere fandoms exist within every fandom and the kidnapping here was CANON this guy has FUEL).
• AMNESIA/SEPARATED BY TIME TRAGEDY the MELANCHOLY the IDEA that he still made Halloween something remembered centuries later even made the NIGHTMARE SUIT
•ghosts exist in twst you give a long-dead character what else are we supposed to do with those puzzle pieces
#yuna rambles#me chanting this blog is for me this blog is for me#I am cringe I am free this blog is for ME#not tagging this in gen tags though#I once again apologize to whoever came here for golem!yuu and has been watching the Skully brainrot slowly consume me the past few months#i thought it receded I Was Wrong#it was the angst that tipped me over#everything else was fine and dandy but the END the ANGST the pain and agonies#i barely cared until that point#in hindsight it kinda tickles the same part of my brain as the forgotten portrait in Ib#all the other stuff fed into it but the angst was the bullet

my ib tips (as an ib year 1 survivor)
my subjects (for reference):
HL: Chemistry, Biology, Maths AA
SL: English A, Czech A, History
Do your research the summer before year 1, find out what unis want and adjust your subjects accordingly (this mainly applies to HL AA, but a lot of engineering programs will want chemistry along with physics).
Contradiction to my last point, but go off of subjects you're at least confident in, and that you enjoy (i.e. if you suck at physics, don't take it, even if you want to do something physics related, it'll just be hellish)
Don't let what you think you want to do in the future limit your choices. Sure, it's good to keep it in mind, but people change, so it is more important to take subjects you want to study rather than what you need for a career you think you want.
Start thinking about your EE early, and try to talk to your subject teacher (there is a large chance they will be your supervisor, and if not, it's still good to get an idea of what is expected of you).
SPACE.OUT.YOUR.IAS!!! My school does this for us, but it's better to do your ias during your first year and one at a time rather than cramming them all in year 2.
On a similar note, get your CAS done as soon as possible (forgot this one as I've already done it), it takes such a massive load from your shoulders going into year 2.
Get as much feedback from your teachers as you can!! It can be hard to hear critiques of your work, but trust me, it'll help you a lot in the long run.
Continue with your extracurriculars, I know a lot of people will quit or limit their ECs during the IB, but imo, there's nothing worse you can do. ECs keep you grounded and help you focus on stuff that isn't the ib.
Don't be afraid to switch subjects/levels, if you find out something isn't working for you, it's always easier to switch than to tough it out, trust me, your future self will thank you!
Don't take it too seriously, sure, it determines your future, but you also need to chill the hell out, because the only person your stress is hurting is you.
The IB is only as hard as you make it!
Good luck! Feel free to ask me anything in the submission box on my profile!

omg hi!!! I'm a year 1 ib student rn and i just saw that you're doing ib math aa - do you have any tips on which revision resources to do / how to think of a good IA topic?? if you do, I would be super grateful thank you so much!! <3 - @studyingscribbles
my main piece of advice for revising ib math aa would be to use practice sites like revision dojo and revision village, or to practice with past papers, since practicing exam-style questions is probably the best way to revise when it comes to this subject. revision dojo in particular is really useful (and free!) and has additional resources if you need help understanding any concepts. also, you might find openstax helpful (for any subject really, not just math) if you need a more in-depth explanation of a concept!
as for ia topics, i might not be the most helpful since i struggled with this myself, but i would say try to find something that has to do with an interest of yours that you can link back to a concept in the syllabus. that's the method my teacher recommended and it helped me out. also, you could try looking through some IAs on clastify to spark some inspiration!
@studyingscribbles and anyone else reading, i hope these tips help! ♡

The Medicine Trolley - what is it, and why I love it
As my CRPS has progressed, I have found myself becoming less mobile. Throw into the mix a good dollop of stress and anxiety - which in turn set off migraines and my IBS. As a result I am struggling more with my different health conditions, and my new body.
However I am slowly learning to accept that with these changes to my body and its symptoms, I need to adapt my living space too. My room needs to become optimised for my needs with a focus on function over form (rather than the cottage core that sits close to my heart).
This means I need to keep things within easy reach, both for day to day management (see loss of mobility), and whenever a flare hits or an IBS flare happens or a migraine attacks. Some days are harder than others - and you don't want to be trying to find stuff when you just want to curl up into a ball (or when you are making friends with the loo).
Enter: the medicine trolley.

This three tiered trolley on wheels lives right next to my bed, and holds everything I might need at a moments notice. From daily medications (which require a weekly sort out into my pill pots) to emergency pain/IBS/migraine kits. It has become invaluable in keeping my stuff organised - which can be hard when you have more than one chronic health condition.
But what do I actually keep in mine:
Tier 1 (top) = this is where I keep some distractions (MP3 player, CD drive for laptop), massagers, IT stuff, and my favourite plushie (for when I need a good cuddle and cry).
Hanging pots = these sit on the top tier and contain stuff like my wheelchair gloves, sunglasses (which help a lot with migraines) and tech like my tens machine.
Tier 2 (middle) = this is where the daily medications and key emergency meds are kept. I use small organising trays off of Amazon to keep them separated. On one side is my daily meds, and the other I keep IBS and migraine meds for those emergency flares or attacks.
Tier 3 (bottom) = Here I keep my pain kit and migraine kits. These consist of stuff like kids large colouring books (as these are easier on the eyes with a migraine), spare tens machine gear, electric heat pad (when not in use), and other medication for migraines.

I got this trolley from Hobby Craft (at time of purchase £20). The small pots on the sides I think came from IKEA (although I am not 100% sure). Just to be clear - none of this is sponsored or affiliated -> I just wanted to share what has worked for me personally.
Yes, it does cost a bit for the initial setup. But, being completely honest - it has been so worth it for me. When a flare hits (or an IBS/Migraine attack starts) I do not want to have to go hunting around for my heat pad or meds. Especially with a migraine or IBS - where timing really matters.
TLDR:
Keep medical essentials close by, easy to access, and neatly organised. This isn't a magic fix to any of my health conditions - instead it means that when an IBS attack happens or a Migraine hits, I am able to find key medication fast.
Sending spoonie hugs
PS - please remember that everyone's needs and setups will vary as we are all different people. This is just an example of how I organise my medications and health kits - to make sure that I can get key medication when an IBS or migraine attack strikes. Take what you find handy from my medicine trolley and adapt it to your own needs.
