Hey hey! I discovered your little guy dog series not too long ago and fell in love with them.
I'm not sure if anyone has asked this before, but is Machete (the white dog, right?) based on a pet you had, or did it come to you randomly?
If I had to pinpoint the earliest inspirations I had for him, I'd say they were this photo of an Ibizan Hound in an old dog book from the 70's that my grandparents used to have:
Tumblr media
I remember being fascinated by this particular dog, I hadn't seen that many sighthounds/podencos in person so it looked weirdly stretched and ghostly and pointy. I thought it was the coolest looking dog ever. I think I was in elementary school at the time.
Also my childhood favorite toy was this albino rabbit here, called Sissi (Finnish for guerrilla soldier):
Tumblr media
I think they were one of my first toys, or at least the most important one, and I would consistently pick them whenever a daycare or preschool had one of those 'bring a toy with you' days (feels weird to have to call a plush rabbit 'they' but Finnish doesn't have any gendered pronouns and I don't think I ever thought of them as a gendered being). So albinism was something I was aware of from very young age and I drew a lot of all white, red eyed animals.

overly specific house dog au headcanons? spill some?
I can try and fit in one post everyone I've settled completely on so far, and also be obnoxious about dog breeds. fun
I've also bothered @greghatecrimes with a lot of these so very big thanks to them for helping me settle on breeds for everyone <3
It's when I've settled on a "base breed" with dogs that sometimes things just go crazy and go from there
Start with the most overly unnecessarily detailed one here you go:
Adams is the oddest most fantasy mixed breed of ALL fucking time her parents are one Belgian Tervuren and one Borzoi x Ibizan Hound and she appeared so much Tervuren that it’s just possible to miss that she’s got any sighthound(s) in her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Editing to go even more in-detail with this one because my girl deserves it: She ends up looking somewhere between these two:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She’s very pointy and very leggy but she is very long-furred and that's where the mistakes come from. She moves mostly with the gaits of her sighthound sides which the others find is an easy way to make her bristle. She’s prancing across the room and Chase says you move like a sighthound and she says no I don’t (yes she does)
Park is a Silken Windsprite:
Tumblr media
Probably struggles in snow and sometimes has to jump and jump to get through it when it's really deep but Adams mumbles that it’s cute and that's Fight invitation. Park brings up that Adams gets snowballs stuck on her and that it takes hours to melt out of her fur. ("Fuck you!" - "Do it yourself!") It's probably fair to say she has some little dog syndrome.
Chase is an Australian Shepherd. House probably used to make comments about he and Cameron both being Merle:
Tumblr media
Cameron is this specific Border Collie (but with blue eyes, ofc):
Tumblr media
Probably does the Collie Crouch sometimes. Absolutely does the Collie Stare, and that would come into House's "you can't actually pierce me with your eyes" moments.
Foreman is a Central Asian Shepherd:
Tumblr media
For a slight visual similarity to how I imagine post-Lockdown Angst Cameron might feel meeting Masters, Masters is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever:
Tumblr media
Probably has what I call in the groomers "Smart Breed Anxiety" along with her autism swag. Dogs who listen to and seem to understand every word you say and if you're telling someone or another pet off for anything, they assume they're the one you're talking to and give all their guilty looks. Also using my Bluebear as reference with that visual.
Thirteen is this Utonagan!!! No other visual!!! Have such a canine visual of The Dig it's insane.
Tumblr media
Wilson of course took Golden Retriever. Definitely one of the larger/silkier ones. Show-type. He'd definitely be a dark gold but this is the best pic I have for how I picture him -color:
Tumblr media
House is a Scottish Deerhound, mixed with what? He doesn't know. Wants to know. Very easy to miss that he's a cross:
Tumblr media
(Little Rachel rode on his back for a bit once.)
Speaking of, Rachel is a little pupper Sheltie (Natalie) x English Shepherd (Simon) but she barely shows any Shep traits when it comes to looks:
Tumblr media
Rachel's a mini-me of her mama, Cuddy took Rough Collie:
Tumblr media
Kutner is a Springer Spaniel x Large Münsterländer, leaning more looks-wise toward the latter and leaning energy-level toward the former:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Taub is a Beagle, Chihuahuas are just too small for one of the main characters in my little visual I'm afraid (and I forgot Smooth Fox Terriers existed):
Tumblr media
Rachel is a long-haired Dachshund, and Ruby is a show-type English Cocker Spaniel, so Sophie and Sophia are those crosses respectively. Click on the Spaniel to see the full pic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Amber takes (Red) Siberian Husky:
Tumblr media
She's quite thick-coated but she doesn't fall under "Woolly Husky" coat type.
Red (Irish) Setter Stacy:
Tumblr media
Plott Hound Mark:
Tumblr media
Dominika... So This dog is obviously a Belgian Malinois maybe crossed with something fluffier (unless the listing change from Mali to Terv is accurate, then she's just Small) but she looks exactly like this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Saluki Lydia:
Tumblr media
Belgian Malinois Alvie:
Tumblr media
Lucas is just straight-up a Coyote. It just fits him too well. He gets a Coyote-themed name in the WC AU, and gets to be a Coyote when I think about canines:
Tumblr media
Beauceron Nolan. Can't see him as something as round and soft as Newfies but also can't see him as a bully-type:

Unnecessary otherkin sideblog, main is sirenium (link)
basics: I support contradictory labels, endo systems, etc. I am queer and neurodivergent. Before you come after me for my username, I am intersex and reclaim the h-slur. More on my identity outside of alterhumanity is in my main's pinned post.
Why did I make this blog? So I can have a blog for purely otherkin related content. I may still use the other one for this stuff as well. Now with that out of the way, it's time for the comically long explanation of my alterhuman identity, featuring every single creature that I have been connected to at one point or another.
I am a polymorph, which causes my kintype list to look like this as a lot of these are forms: Borzoi, Border collie, Blue brindle pit bull, Coyote, Coastal wolf, Doberman, Dhole, German shepherd, Ibizan hound, Maned wolf, Norwegian elkhound, Silken windhound, Werewolf, Asian golden cat, Bombay cat, Bengal tiger, Black footed cat, Cougar, Cheetah, Oriental shorthair, Ocelot, Serval, Sphinx, Basking shark, Bull shark, Black-tipped reef shark, Greenland shark, Lemon shark, Leopard shark, Whale shark, Chital deer, Caribou deer, Sika deer, Taruca deer, Thorold's deer, White tail deer, Alternate (Mandela Catalogue), Bearded vulture, Black bear, Bracken (Lethal Company),Coconut octopus, Golden-capped fruit bat, Genet, Giant isopod, Incubus, Irken (Invader Zim), Kitty (Backrooms), Lynel (Legend of Zelda), Leafeon (Pokemon), Loot bug (Lethal Company), Naegleria Fowleri (commonly: brain eating amoeba), Orca, Opossum, Rook, Raccoon, Sylveon (Pokemon), Striped hyena, Spotted hyena, Vampire, Vulture bee, and Zonai (Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom).
again, a lot of these are simply forms I have taken, though others stick with me more than a face I will occasionally wear. For example, when I say I'm canine therian my mind always goes to being a doberman and a german shepherd, occasionally a coyote or a maned wolf. That does not mean I do not see myself in the others, it only means that those seem to be the most prevalent.
I am a polymorphic god specifically, meaning my polymorphism and godhood are linked. In fact, I am a god of polymorphism. As for being a vampire, my vampirism feels physical and as though it has very much carried over into this body. These things are part of my base identity as nonhuman, and so is being canine therian. As you can probably guess, my alterhumanity is highly complicated and often confusing, as I'll feel like, say, a bearded vulture one moment and a cheetah the next. It can feel unstable and chaotic. I don't have the luxury of a more stable and simple nonhuman identity, nor do I really want to. Because in finding this chaos, I have found myself.
yeah. anyways no DNI but I block literal bigots and assholes here for the sole purpose of being assholes at light speed.

The Ibizan Hound
For National Purebred Dog Day and Day of the Podenco (May 1st) please enjoy this write up I recently did on the Ibizan Hound (aka Podenco Ibicenco).
Please keep in mind that I am U.S. based, so most of my information is going to be about the community and sports here in the United States.
The beginning of the Ibizan Hound, like many primitive breeds, cannot be narrowed down to a specific set of dates or even years. Like many other Mediterranean and Middle Eastern breeds, fanciers like to compare Ibizan profiles to those of dogs found in hieroglyphs and on statues and imagine their ancestors being those who lived among the Ancient Egyptians. Then, at some point, they were said to be brought over to the island of Ibiza on trade ships. Recent genetic testing does not quite support this story, but what can't be denied is this - Ibizan Hounds have been uniquely selected and adapted over hundreds of years to hunt rabbit through the brush-filled, rocky embankments and hot, arid climate of Ibiza.
Ibizans are pack hunters - first using their eyes, ears, noses, and innate curiosity to investigate the area and find anything attempting to hide in briars or other natural formations. A bark, a wagging tail raised over the back, and an excitement for the future chase alert the other dogs and the human hunters to the prey's location, where the dogs will congregate, flush the prey from it's hideout, and hope for a quick catch. But, if the rabbit is clever enough to avoid immediate doom, the chase gives way over the harsh landscape. This is where the Ibizan's unique conformation comes in. Their front is intentionally forward set and has more elasticity than most breeds, giving them the ability to maneuver, rotate, and change direction mid-air. Combined with lithe, flat muscling, their medium size, incredible leaping prowess, and fear of nothing in the face of the hunt, most Ibizans have the drive and ability to go over, under, around, or through any natural obstacle they may find in their path. Ibizan Hounds are an excellent example of form follows function in that everything, from the ears on their head down to the tips of their tails, has been fashioned to help them excel at their purpose over the years of selection for the best hunters.
In the United States today, Ibizans have been recognized in the Hound Group by the AKC since 1978. Officially, the standard calls for females to be 22.5-26" and males 23.5-27.5", though small deviances in either direction shouldn't be held against a dog who is otherwise a nice example of the breed. With this height range, you can find dogs anywhere from 35-70+ lbs. Because of the conformation of their skeletal structure and flat muscling, it is common to find healthy or even overweight dogs who show hip bones, ribs, and spine, especially during their "teenage" phases. All purebred Ibizans will be red, white, or most likely, a combination of red and white with rosy, flesh toned noses and pigmentation. Both smooth and wire coats are allowed, and in the AKC, are shown together in the ring and can be interbred. The only disqualification in the AKC standard is for "Any color other than white or red and any pigment color which is not as described". The standard leaves enough open to personal interpretation that Ibizans tend to have a range of "styles" within the breed, while retaining the distinctive breed type. Overall, Ibizans should be elegant, refined, and "deer-like" in their appearance without being fine to the point of fragility. Moderation is an essential aspect of their appearance and ability. An Ibizan overdone in one way or another would not excel at it's original function.
Temperamentally, the word moderation could not be less true. Ibizans (affectionately called beezers by those who love them) should be stable, easy-going, and affectionate. Aloofness with strangers is common and acceptable. However, alongside all the above comes a dog with a wicked sense of humor, an innate curiosity, and the physical ability to follow through on their heart's whims. Beezers are over-the-top goofy and tend to be wildly affectionate with those in their inner circle. Ibizans are pack dogs, and should easily integrate themselves into groups and generally get along with others. They do well with routines and order, since they tend to make their own chaos, but training must be approached with the understanding that most are very easily bored, and will find it beneath themselves to repeat an activity they believe they've conquered.
While they obviously excel at running sports like lure coursing and racing, Ibizans are also able to have fun and have been making strides in sports like agility, nosework, rally, and dock diving (and rumor is a few are starting to dabble in flyball). The breed is also one that sees many Owner-Handlers win and do well in the conformation ring. Beezers are generally classified as high energy, and most are willing to keep going all day if they find whatever activity to be enjoyable. However, once they reach maturity, you're just as likely to find them lazing the day away on the comfort of a bed or couch.

Okay so just a few of the yan bois...?
We already know Bo's most likely a Golden Retriever.
Alan reminds me of Tramp from "Lady and the Tramp". (And although he's a mutt, Tramp's design is that of a Schnauzer.)
Peter, Pedro, and Mal would be Mexican Hairless dogs, (or literal Greyhounds, whichever one you wanna pick.)
Although Mal would probably be a disabled one (But that doesn't mean he's not a tough doggo.)
Doe's a Puli dog, (for obvious reasons.)
So, I guess what breed would Damon, Jack, Tate, Charles, Charlie and Victor be?
[Hmmm...I'm not 100% (more like 90%), but I'm sure that Bo is a Shiba-Inu based on some stuff Sauce shared. But he's a good boy all the same.
Alan can still be a mut, mainly because he and his bros all have different dads, but I'm feeling like...Australian Shepherd, mostly because Heterochromia is common in that breed.
Peter I'm going with Greyhound, Mal as Ibizan Hound, and Pedro Doberman Pinscher.
Doe is Puli, it's been confirmed.
Damon, Wolfdog. Jack, Border Collie. Tate, Dire Wolf. Charles/Charlie, Pitbull (I picked it because they were once nanny dogs known for sweetness, so Charles, and now they have a bad rep because of dog fighting, so Charlie). Victor, English Cocker Spaniel.]

oh. queue ran out. whoops.
anyway i've been thinking about Mestas's other form. as both a vampire and a demigod of the Hunt, she has an animal form and a shadowy/spectral ghost monster form. since the first concept of her, i've had it down that both of these forms are canine in nature
i wanted a canine but don't want a wolf since it's such a typical "god of the hunt" association. (i mean canines are too but ignore that)
yesterday i think i finally pinned it down. her canine forms are "longdogs"-- basically sighthound mutts. i haven't pinned down the exact breeds i want her features based off of, but i'm pretty sure i'm going with a mix of silken windhound, scottish deerhound, and ibizan hound (not technically a sighthound)

You know what would be soooo cool? What if there was a website where you could mix dog breeds and it’d show you legitimate possibilities based on genetics of what the offspring would look like? Perhaps it could pull credible image’s from various sources of real dogs, or it could be an actual a character model that you can use to play with genetics. Breeds could range from Ibizan hounds to Caucasian shepherds, poodles to giant schnauzers, schipperkes to German shepherds. That would be so neat.

for the ask game: ibizan hounds, rhodesian ridgebacks, schipperkes
beezers and ridgebacks are in if they are literally the most chill version of those breeds out there, i don't know enough about schipperkes to judge but they're in based on fluffiness 😤

looking for advice
I am not currently in a position to get my own dog as I don't live in my own place, but I want to be very prepared when that time comes, and would like some advice about choosing the dog you want and preparing for it
I am specifically interested in a dog who I can do dog sport with. I don't have previous experience but have done lots of research and been interested for a long time. I would probably start with agility and rally, and then I would like to possibly try barn hunt and or dock diving. Ofc all of this is just ideas and can/will change based on what my dog enjoys and our trainer(s) recommend. For lifelong work/sport I am very interested in both Schutzhund and Cadaver work.
There are so so many great dogs and dog breeds out there, and I feel like every time I take a “match with a breed” type quiz I get something new. I am very very interested in the Cane Corso, but my complete list of interesting breeds is: Kishu ken, Akita, Border Collie, Ibizan Hound, Belgian Teruvian, German Shepherd, in no particular order.
I would be looking for a puppy from a responsible breeder, as I believe for my first solo companion and working dog the health, support, and knowledge I would gain from a breeder would set me up for the most success.
Does anybody have experience having or choosing between any of these dogs? How did you choose your dog(s)? Any advice on preparing for a specific breed and how it is different than just general prep for a new dog?
Thank you to anybody who reblogs or replies. Also feel free to message me, I would really appreciate it
