Theo sits alone in the Selwyns’ parlor, straight-backed on the piano bench, her hands moving deftly over the keys as she practices. Today the piece is Ludwig van Beethoven’s Piano Sonata No. 3, a piece that Miss Helen, Theo’s half-blood former tutor, had introduced her to last summer. True, it’s Muggle music, but Beethoven wasn’t just any old Muggle, and Theo has been aware for years now that musical genius has no correlation with magical ability.

Besides, who will know? Her father has certainly never realized that his daughter’s repertoire includes Muggle composers – not just Beethoven, but also Chopin and Shostakovich, Schubert and Debussy, even some piano arrangements of Bach’s harpsichord works. Surely Gwendolen Rosier and Iago Selwyn will be equally unfamiliar with such music; Muggles are beneath their notice, after all.

She’s well into the second movement, a lovely rondo, when she hears Gwendolen enter the room. She knows that the woman won’t interrupt her. Gwendolen enjoys hearing Theo play; in fact, Theo suspects that her musical talent may be the only part of her that Gwendolen actually likes. Doubtless it reminds the woman of her dead sister, Theo’s mother, whereas everything else about Theo seems to make Gwendolen think of Theo’s father, the brother-in-law whom Gwendolen has yet to forgive.

As Theo continues to play, Gwendolen moves closer, but Theo fails to notice the menace in her movements, lost as she is in the beautiful melody. It’s only when Gwendolen reaches out and snatches that sheet music from in front of her that Theo is jerked out of her reverie.

”Beethoven?” Gwendolen says, her voice low and dangerous. Her eyes have narrowed to slits in her pale face, and she tears the papers in half, and then tears them again into quarters, then into eighths…

”That’s my music!” Theo shrieks, leaping upright so suddenly that the piano bench crashes to the floor. She lunges towards Gwendolen, but the woman is already feeding the scraps to the fire, her face a mask of fury.

”No!”

”You will not play that Muggle filth in this house,” Gwendolen snaps, tossing the last shred of paper into the flames.

A surge of anger floods Theo’s veins, burning inside her like acid. Desperately, unthinkingly, she pulls out her wand, and not even she knows whether she plans to merely douse the fire or send a hex at Gwendolen.

She never finds out. There’s a sudden bang, and her wand flies from her grip. But it isn’t Gwendolen who’s disarmed her. Apparently Iago was drawn by Theo’s screams. He seems to come out of nowhere, and as Theo’s wand rolls across the carpet, he grabs her by the shoulders and shoves her against the wall.

”How dare you try to attack your aunt!” he roars, shaking her so vigorously that her teeth rattle against each other. “Apologize!”

When she fails to speak, he pulls back his hand and strikes her across the face. “Apologize!” he shouts again, while behind him Gwendolen cries, “Iago, stop!”

Theo doesn’t apologize. Instead, her cheek stinging from below, she pulls free of his grip and runs. She crashes through the back door and out into the garden, darting through the shrubbery and the trees, moving so quickly in her panic that the landscape turns to nothing more than a green blur around her. She doesn’t stop when she reaches the garden wall, but scrambles over it and keeps going, running past the borders of the Selwyn property and up into the hills behind the house, not knowing where she’s going, not caring where she’s going, so long as it’s away.

So I have the most random request for hc's with Jafar. [if you want to obv]. What if his s/o was a demi-god [possibly the child of a god of knowledge] BUT they don't tell anyone. Their dad just shows up one day and thats how he finds out.

Anon your patience for getting this answered is immeasurable. I decided to make the 'god of knowledge' here Hermes, since in the myths Hermes' domain is messenger, lies, travel and creator of the alphabet - which is pretty awesome!

Jafar x Demigod!S/O

- You did not intend for this to happen.

- You had had the good sense to lay low and get the hell out of Greece: Your dad Hermes may be one of the more ‘chill’ gods, but you have no interest in getting to know the disaster that is your extended family. Hermes was even weirdly encouraging about you jumping ship, but as the heavenly messenger, you suppose he’s just happy that you’re travelling and putting your skills to use.

- You went overseas, studied languages, got to know the trade routes and built a life for yourself in Agrabah. You even got hired to advise the Sultans government and landed yourself a tall dark and twisted boyfriend to boot!

- You decide to write home one day, idly, just to let your mother (and dad) know you’re alive and things are going ok.

- You...really should have remembered. Hermes is juggling about 50 jobs on the daily and in his haste sometimes...forgets things. Like the fact you’re trying to pass as a regular mortal.

- So three days later when your Dad in all his jazzy, turquoise glory whizzes into the palace, squeezes you up into a giant hug, ruffles your hair and presses a plate of snacks from home into your hands – all while chatting a million miles an hour and letting you know just how proud he is-! - and then proceeds to whiz out again with a cheery ‘Knock ‘em dead kiddo!”, you knew you fucked up.

- Jafar’s knuckles were white around his staff.

- ...oh dear.

- Jafar prides himself on being the most informed person in any room at all times. You think he rose to Grand Vizier and maintained his position by being idle?? Hypnosis, blackmail and murder aside, Jafar has worked DAMN HARD – he takes study and acquisition of intelligence extremely seriously.

- This man, even when in his evil wizard tower in his underwear and swamped under a metric ton of sultan-induced paperwork, can tell you what is happening on the streets of Agrabah and half the civilisations across the desert at any one time.

- And you. Lied to him.

- You, of all people, his most trusted confidant, deliberately and intentionally kept your divine lineage and (presumably) powers hidden from him.

- (if Jafar ever deigns to think about the fact that you kept this from everyone, not just him, there’s a 50/50 chance it would send him into a deeper spiral because he’s supposed to be better than those plebeians and you managed to not only keep this information from him, but LIE to his face about it the entire time-?!)

- Reader if his world would stop fucking spinning he’d congratulate you and then probably attempt to bowl you down the stairs, Iago’s just gonna hang on your shoulder for a bit until the mans paranoia and bitterness stope teetering on the edge of homicide.

- he’s not threatened why on earth would you think that he’s threatened by the fact you’re a half divine being of Fucking Knowledge now hold sTILL-

- It’s... going to take a few days for him to simmer down and stop plotting contingency measures.

- Then he’ll let his greed overtake his self preservation and think about all the ways he can rope you into his schemes to take over Agrabah. The 180 from thin lipped barely contained murderous rage to overtly-looming-hyper-sleaze is dizzying. Iago is facepalming in the back.

- All in all, he’d be up in your business waaaay more than he was before, but he does (eventually) get over it enough to use you as a blatant flex. Of course you only had eyes for him, little jewel, clearly only he had the intellect to match such a divine gift as yours~

What would the fight against Kalim's Overblot look like in rr au? And how will Jamil and Kalim's relationship look after Kalim's Overblot?

Okay ngl at this point (since I haven't played the game in a longgggggg time, have lost my au notes, and kinda just havent thought about this au for a while) i KINDA forgor BUT I can tell you what I remember the most from my original plans (they may change... or just not be written at all lol! I got other stuff going on unfortunately)

I don't quite remember the logistics of how they get back into scarabia aside from the octavinelle trio helping jamil and the yuu gang navigate the floodwaters (think something reminiscent of ch3 where the yuu gang had waterbreathing potions and such) and they swim up and up from the portal to the last remaining bit of dry land in the desert (which is likely the highest roof/balcony of the dorm? I kinda never fully knew the scarabia layout)

rr au kalim has always been best represented in my mind as "the genie who desperately wished to become iago" where in his heart of hearts all he ever wanted was to be kind and grant others happiness but to stand by jamil's side forever he turned to more sinister tendencies (this is reflected in his undying support of jamil despite the dorm tyranny and his guard duties but also his internal struggle of helping the struggling students anyway) SO BECAUSE OF THIS i imagine his overblot monster actually does take on most of the characteristics of the good genie but may be all warped with bird features since kalim himself is trapped in this in-between state of "purehearted wishgranter" and "right hand to the sorcerer of sands"

I also like to imagine that even though kalim and jamil had been skirting around their feelings prior to the overblot (and continue to do so after bc WHEW awkward), during the overblot itself kalim ends up expressing his hidden desire to love and protect jamil forever while overblotted and thus may take jamil "hostage" for the fight to have him to himself, keeping him away from the yuu gang (+octavinelle) for most of the fight until they wear him down enough and jamil can either talk him down or Snake Whisper him into submission to stop the overblot and make sure kalim doesnt injure himself beyond saving with his magic consumption and mental turmoil (there was also the background fear that since i hc the scarabia dorm/all dorms exist in a "pocket dimension" of sorts, eventually it would reach capacity and kalim would drown himself from all the rainwater he produces, which was why time was of the essence even though kalim's UM doesnt consume much magic comparatively)

after the overblot (when kalim falls unconscious) jamil gets overwhelmed with emotion at the thought of losing kalim and kisses him briefly, which jamil REFUSES to address afterward despite the yuu gang literally losing their MINDS over how stupid jamil is being but no siree hes not about to address that bc then hed have to admit he kissed kalim and that he liked him this whole time and how terrified he was- jamil does NOT wanna deal w all those emotions yet he needs to sort himself out and get over his superiority complex first AND resolve the whole master/servant power imbalance they got goin on yanno

Speaking of which, kalim and jamil do end up spending much more time apart so that they can learn to be more independent... they have a LOT of codependency going on where kalim feels like hes useless if he isnt able to serve jamil while jamil trusts absolutely nobody and is way too paranoid about everything to the point of basically not letting anyone into his life aside from kalim so they do need to separate for a bit to be healthier, both for themselves and each other. Since rr kalim, unlike canon jamil, kinda doesnt mind acting as a servant all that much (which has to do with a whole lot of childhood indoctrination and such we do NOT have the time to talk about here lol), I imagine rr jamil takes matters into his own hands (to his chagrin, bc ideally he wants kalim to be able to recognize his own personhood and stand up for himself bc he loves him dearly) and dismisses kalim from his duties for the time they spend apart so that kalim can heal and jamil can work out his trust issues properly

And thus, the genie is free...

A while ago I made a post comparing character traits and audience reactions to them of SPN with OFMD (Dean is to Ed, Stede is to Cas (and Sam), and Izzy is to John) but left it at that. But as I'm writing fics about both of them I really am noticing the similarities even more and you know what, I do want to elaborate. Similar characters traits and then on audience perception/reaction.

Dean and Ed

Characteristics: both underneath it all are soft but have been forced to be hard due to the world/harsh circumstances they are in. When left to their own devices, they will always choose softness first. Both of them want a partner not just for physical intimacy but emotional, they want to be loved and really seen for who they are, not the mask they put up. (Sexual: both are shown with sub undertones)

The childhood trauma in both is strong and affects them as middle-aged adults. When they are in moments of high trauma they become selectively mute.

They also wear a (metaphorical) mask a lot of the time. Their main journey is growing and learning to be comfortable and love all aspects of themselves.

Audience perspection: some of the audience falls for that mask and think those are the traits of the characters. (I.e. Dean is some womanizer with toxic masculinity he never outgrows, Ed is a violent man, etc.) They can also be divisive and there's no in between: you either love or hate them.

Stede and Cas (and Sam)

Stede and Cas are outsiders in their worlds, just a little bit out of touch with it: Stede lives in books and fantasy and is forced into societal expectations that are not truly him. Cas is an angel who has to learn the world of humans. (both can be read as neurodivergent)

Audience perception: audiences often HC them as neurodivergent.

Sam, Cas, and Stede are also accused of being selfish (and while this isn't 100% true, it is not to the extreme as sole claim it to be). Selfish has a negative connotation, but both acted in a way to get away from a bad situation, last extreme action. Sam leaves for college to get away from the hunter life and home situation that makes him uncomfortable. Stede also does the same thing, he leaves his home life for the sea. It is years of built up frustration and a last resort to get out of there. (We even learn in the pilot: "do you want to live?" "I don't know!" And Cas will leave to try to do things so. His own. Not including Dean and Sam because he's trying to protect them.

Izzy and John

Characteristics: now you would think the comparison would end before it started with John being the literal father of Dean and Izzy being a father-figure to Ed, but my friend, you have not forgotten to exclude ships in your searches. *Shudders* also, Ed looks at Izzy as a father-figure, while Izzy looks at him in a pseudosexual power thing with the Blackbeard.

Both of them represent the old ways, the man up, pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps toxic masculinity. John causes both parentification and enmeshment with his oldest, Dean, Izzy caused Ed to keep up the Blackbeard persona for years past when he wanted/needed to. Izzy was based on Iago from Othello, and Salieri from Amadeus.

Audience: both are canonically abusive, emotionally and John is implied physically as well. Izzy is shown being physically abusive to others Fang and Black Pete. But a small group of fans will hand wave the abuse of both with the "they were just trying to do their best — trying to keep the subjects (of their abuse) alive in a rough world."

HEHE you know this one, but i don't think i've ever mentioned the full story behind puck having it ingrained into his brain that he needs to be a little gentleman on this blog before.

when he & iago were little, they shared a room. their family didn't have much money, so their house was pretty small. that was probably the main reason why they shared a room, but honestly i think they would have anyway because they were just absolutely inseparable at that point.

BUT they had a bunk bed, and at first they both very much wanted to have the top bunk because that is objectively the better choice. the two of them argued very heatedly about it, which led to puck trying to bite iago's leg. their dad had to intervene, and the way he got them to stop fighting was to look puck in the eye (despite the headache doing so will give, sorry dad) & ask him, "puck, are you being a little gentleman right now?"

needless to say, iago got the top bunk. iago got away with a lot of things in the name of puck being a little gentleman, i imagine. nothing too severe, just little things like that.

Anything involving raw fish, and it's been that way since she was a little girl. You'd think it was brought on by Date doing something awful. But it's actually due to a really bad smell left when some was part of her 'dinner' left behind when her original parents were both too busy to cook anything and had to leave on business.

Suffice to say that though she won't make most of the connections out loud or accept them, the connection to neglect had a big hand in turning her off from the food. Taste and texture wise. So yeah, sorry, no sushi for Mizuki.

AMOS SLADE - Is your muse a cat or a dog person?

Mizuki just likes animals! She'll get along with either, but probably has a bit too much energy to properly enjoy cats for long bouts of time. She can be taught to properly chill and let them come to her but... suffice to say she'd be much better off with a happy dog that can follow her around and go for walkies.

Listing the Aladdin characters that I think are autistic for Autism Acceptance Month

I'm only including the main characters of the musical. Cause Aladdin is a big franchise and I mainly hyperfixate on the musical. I first wrote all of these on paper cause I got a cool new notepad and wanted to use it. So yeah I'm just transferring stuff and changing some things from there. What are Theo's thoughts on Death Eaters in general?

For the most part, they frighten her. Her father is the main exception, as well as Draco Malfoy, whom Theo doesn’t consider to be a “real” Death Eater.

The Death Eater she’s had the closest contact with, aside from her father, is her maternal uncle, Iago Selwyn. She was sent to live with him, his wife Calantha (also a Death Eater), and his sister Gwendolen Rosier (not a Death Eater, but sympathetic to the cause) when her father was imprisoned after the Battle of the Department of Mysteries. Iago is an awful person even by Death Eater standards, and he scares the crap out of Theo.

She’s also had a fair amount of contact with Lucius Malfoy, due to spending so much time with Draco as a child. She wasn’t certain that he was a Death Eater until he was arrested at the Department of Mysteries, but she had strongly suspected it for about a year by then, and was unnerved by the idea. She tried to sound @mayhemxmugglesxmagic‘s Draco out on the matter during the summer between their 4th and 5th years, because she had figured out that the Dark Lord had returned, but it was clear from his response that Draco had no idea what was going on.

(Lucius Malfoy was much better at keeping secrets from his child than Leontius Nott was.)

And, of course, there’s also Severus Snape. Theo respects Snape. He may not be kind, but he’s well-versed in his subject and he’s squarely on the side of his Slytherins when it comes to inter-House conflicts. He’s the only staff member whom she trusts not to be biased against her because of her house.

After she learns that he’s a Death Eater – she has no idea that he’s actually a double agent – she becomes more cautious around him, because she’s afraid that if he sees any signs of disloyalty in her, it’ll be reported to the Dark Lord and will rebound on her father. That’s her greatest fear during her 7th year at Hogwarts – that if she messes up, it’ll be used against her dad, since he’s already on Voldemort’s shit list due to the disaster at the Department of Mysteries. So she’s cautious around Snape. But he doesn’t frighten her the way most of the others do.
