âHey, Rob?"
Rob again.
Robin felt sparks in her heart as it fastened.
âYeah?â
âDo you wanna have movie night today? Horror,â Nancy looked down at her hands for a few seconds.
Movie night? On a weekday?
âYes!â Robin responded, sounding a little too excited, âI meanâyeah, totally,â she chuckled.
âYour pick,â Nancy smiled and she winked . She fucking winked.
Though it probably meant nothing. I mean, itâs normal for girls to wink at their girl friends.
âSee you later,â Robin waved her hand and turned around to walk back to the store.
âRob!â Nancy called again.
When Robin turned around, she saw Nancy walking towards her with m some speed. And before she could even respond yeah? as she always did, their lips were connected.
Nancyâs eyes were closed, her eyelashes flattering gently. But Robinâs were wide open, a vivid red flushing her cheeks. Their noses brushed, feeling her soft skin against her own bloomed flowers in her heart and butterflies took over her insides. Her pink lips stayed on hers like magnets, and Robin realised her lipstick would leave a barely noticeable mark, but a mark nonetheless.

Only Epic the Musical could have a solid 50% of the fandom say "ooh kinky" after watching a graphic torture scene.

Tim's unternet suit really is the most glaringly obvious hero worship/crush for Dick thing he ever has. in the unternet, where Tim's subconscious creates what he is. that's the suit his brain comes up with? something so clearly derivative of Nightwing? down to the *finger stripes*?
red robin #19
this is gay as hell. the reason Tim can't wear this soul irl is bc the first thing he would do is jerk off in it. and he couldn't handle the embarrassment of Dick seeing how similar it is. if DC ever made this Tim's official suit the first thing they would have to do is make Tim and Dick fuck in it. i'm so close to writing that fic i won't lie.
#batcest#dicktim#timdick#tim drake x dick grayson#this does NOT get the festerings tag it's far too low effort#i'm drunk i rlly should mention that#i need a drunk tag wait#necrotic fermentings#sure that works#this is SO low effort and unserious btw#i did have to google 'tim drake tied up' bc it was important to me i used THAT specific panel for this.#also was important to me his dick was not cropped out#someone dare me to write the fic /j#i'm so serious i'm drunk enough to write a low quality ficlet rn#nothing serious enough to go on ao3 but like if someone reblogged/sent an ask asking for it i'd do it#i've had a shit day tbh it'd bring me joy#all of this is /lh#also the IRONY of this suit happening while dick is batman (i think)#actually was bruce alive for the unternet arc? ignore me i don't know.#and i'm too toasted to check. but batman!dick fucking tim in *this* suit could be fun won't lie#anyway cheers this is so silly.

We did it guys! Minthara is in the top 100 most mentioned video game characters on Tumblr, sitting comfortably at rank 55!
With Astarion at rank 1 (cause of course), Gale at 5, Shadowheart at 6, Karlach at 8, Lae'zel at 9, Wyll at 12, Halsin at 16, Tav at 19, Gortash at 47, and The Dark Urge at 67. Baldur's Gate 3 is also the most talked about video game on this platform, as well as the 6th most talked about thing on all of Tumblr!
I wish Minthara was higher, but you know what, I'm happy she's on there at all! It is also interesting that she ranks higher than Durge and that Durge is that low on the list. It's also pretty interesting that there is such a discrepancy between Durge and Gortash as Durgetash is also the 67th most talked about ship on the platform. It is quite an achievement that our favorite drow is even on that list at all.
It is all just making me think back to some of the more dejecting AO3 statistics with Minthara almost being a blip, practically a statistical outlier in some ways. Even some insignificant side characters got more attention and adoration than her, or had numbers that would compare to her. But Tumblr is a much bigger platform than AO3, containing a much wider array of topics (including fanfics). So for Baldur's Gate 3 and Minthara to stand out that much is really saying something! Reading these statistics on Tumblr does go to show that one platform does not represent the entire fandom and that AO3 is only a piece of the picture.
#bg3#baldur's gate 3#minthara#minthara baenre#evil murder kitten#bg3 statistics#minthara seems to always be outshined by other characters like raphael or harleep or even fucking abdirak#(lol i'm actually surprised raphael *didn't* show up on the list)#where it seemed like there were more fanfics and fanart and overall fan creations involving them than her#and it may be true as the tags on tumblr don't exactly detail the purpose of the tag (some of them may involve critical posts too)#but out of all the characters in baldur's gate 3#the ones listed include the 8 romanceable companions. 2 custom player characters. and... gortash#so even if there are more fan creations of the insignificant characters - minthara is more discussed than all of them#the same thing also applies to a lot of the other characters like wyll#in my experience on many platforms - it often seemed like wyll was left out of a lot of discussions#in some places - minthara is talked about more than wyll! (not that there is anything wrong with that though)#i do agree that wyll doesn't really get talked about a lot and many people feel like he is ignored#but he is the 12th most talked about video game character on this platform#the AO3 stats also painted a sad picture for the other female characters as well#with the exception of minthara all of the other female characters are in the top 10 most talked about video game characters#i'm really glad i came across these stats because it does put a lot of things into perspective

Dazai leans over the edge, a strong gust of wind is all it would take to push him over, to send him falling to his sweet, ultimate demise.
Chuuya grabs his arm in a strong grip- but he doesn't pull Dazai away from the edge. Chuuya looks Dazai straight in his eyes. Bright blue eyes meet Dazai's and he says in a firm voice,
"If you jump, you'll kill both of us."
And it's clear, right then, how deeply Chuuya trusts Dazai.
And Dazai doesn't jump.

I've been seeing a lot of posts lately talking about how no one comments/reblogs/replies/etc anymore, and, as someone who comments regularly on a lot of fanworks, it sometimes makes me wonder if my efforts are worth anything. Then I remember how much happiness I get from comments on my own work/posts and how much the community of fandom can matter, and I remember the power that can be found in spreading joy instead of disappointment.
So -- to everyone who comments on fanfiction: thank you. You make the writing process worthwhile and so very rewarding. You make people happy every day.
To all the people who reblog art and gifsets and meta and anything else with enthusiastic tags: thank you. You make people smile and promote interesting conversations and make being on Tumblr so much more fun.
To anyone who sends people asks about their works, whether it's unprompted or part of an ask game: thank you. You give people reasons to talk about things they love and feel like a part of a community.
To the people who makes reclists: thank you. You give us more to read while showing the author how much their work is loved and appreciated, benefitting so many people.
To everyone who organizes events and groups and blogs and dedicated to fandom: thank you. You build community and love and excitement so effectively and it's wonderful.
To all the authors and artists who respond to comments and build community: thank you. You make people smile with your work and then again with your response.
To everyone who contributes to fandom and community in all the other beautiful, varied ways that I can't even begin to list: thank you. You are why we're here.
And, finally, to every writer, visual artist, gifmaker, cosplayer, maker of edits, writer of meta, or creator of art in any other form: thank you. Your work is wonderful and you make fandom what it is, regardless of who sees your art or how much response you recieve.
Keep going, everyone. You are a part of something beautiful.
#wren talks#fandom#writing#fanfiction#ao3#tumblr#writerblr#i get tired of seeing posts like 'things used to be so much better and no one comments anymore'#or 'no one reblogs things on this site these days'#it's such an oversimplification#like. of course people reblog! i reblog!! i am people! so are my mutuals and they also reblog!#LESS interaction doesn't mean NO interaction and saying it does erases the efforts of people who do interact#also this can vary SO much depending on your fandom and ship and how long you've been around and so many other factors#like the commenting culture in the silm fandom is incredibly different from that in the witcher fandom#star trek is closer to witcher but there're a few major differenes#can't speak for other fandoms but i'm sure there are other significant differences#and they also change over time#anyway all this to say that i think encouraging people works way better than complaining#and at its core fandom is an exchange of love#that should be based in positivity#but this got long whoops#hopefully it's vaguely coherent#ok tag rant over now lol

Drabble Prompt: Post-canon Levi, struggling with chronic pain and mourning his dead loved ones, being visited by his still alive loved ones
Anon, you knew how to talk pretty to me <3
hihi requests are still open btw
I feel like I gotta put a disclaimer or something lmao. So, the length of my drabble requests is usually something between 100-400 words. This request is just an incredibly unexpected exception. it just happened to fit into this idea I already had been thinking of, which was how the remaining 104th would ask Levi to be part of important events in their lives because well, they like the dude lmao, so expect that sort of one-shot soon. Additionally, since I kept reminding myself that this was supposed to be a drabble, I might have glossed over the chronic pain and mourning bits so I'm sorry about that ;;
that being said, 2.4k words of Levi and Gabi be upon ye <3
Now on Ao3!
The angry hissing of the kettle makes him flinch. It brings a loud ringing to his right ear. Instinctively, he places his right hand over it, and gives his ear a couple of gentle taps; it's more of a grounding gesture, a distraction from the buzzing. He usually keeps watch over the kettle, so that he can lower the heat just right before it gets a chance to scream at him.Â
He realises then that he must have spaced out while waiting. Itâs alright, he thinks. Itâs been like that a lot, recently. Heâs been like that. Lost in thought-- lost in time, if he allowed himself to be precise. The last days, weeks even, as the temperatures started to drop, blended into each other. Thereâs a little calendar on his bedside table, it had been a birthday gift from Armin â or had that been Mikasaâs? He isnât sure, he had received an absurd number of presents from the kids last year, it had been hard to keep track of who gave him what and now the fact escaped him. Turning the pages of the little calendar, with its delicate botanical illustrations on each day, quickly became part of his morning routine, and so he was sure that time was passing at all. The stillness of the routine, he guesses, made him like this.
His vision blurs momentarily while he scoops the tea leaves into the teapot. He squints, trying to will his good eye to focus, but all he gets in return is a throb in his right eye. After putting the tea canister away, he presses the inner sides of his wrists to both eyes, placing just enough pressure to relieve the discomfort. When he opens his eyes again, he is pleased to find he can read the small print on the canister an armâs length away.Â
Thereâs a loud slam coming from the front of the house, followed by footsteps coming further into the house.
He quickly recognizes the heavy stomping as Gabiâs gait. Sheâs always been so loud.
Gabi crosses the arch into the small kitchen and dining area.Â
âDonât slam my doors,â he says as a greeting, slowly turning his head to his left side, trying to catch a glimpse of her in his periphery.
âAye, aye,â the kid waves her hand, shoots him a teasing grin, âsomeone woke up on the wrong side of the bed.â
Levi hums in response but doesnât say anything else. He busies himself with placing everything they need for their morning tea and coffee on a metal tray on the counter, which Gabi takes from him as soon as itâs ready and sets it on the table.
He grabs his cane from where he had hooked it on one of the kitchen drawers. He has been leaning against the counter, his right leg supporting most of his weight all this time. He braces himself for the sharp pain that will surely surge from his bad knee, through his left hip and up his spine. Cold mornings like this one and being still in one place for long will do that to him. Itâs not so bad. It could be worse.
It takes 4 steps to get from the stove to his chair, which Gabi has already pulled out for him. It sits at an angle that allows him to easily slide down on it and rest his right elbow on top of the table, leaning back and against his good side.
âI have something that will cheer you up,â she holds a couple of envelopes in her hand and waves them at him, âYouâve got mail!â
He nods at her in acknowledgement but does not take his attention away from preparing his first batch of tea of the day. Thereâs a ritual to it, it almost feels like, and he doesnât want to mess it up. Not when the ringing in his ear is still there, the building pressure in the upper back part of his eyeballs, and the cold air seeping into his bones through his thick jumper. Oh, how he needs a good cup of tea right now.
While Levi waits for it to steep, he grabs the papers that she had shoved in his face, squints his eyes at the first envelope and finds that he is unable to make out much of the handwriting. He brings it closer to his face, squints harder, steals a quick glance across the table and hopes Gabi isnât paying him any mind, too preoccupied with choosing from the bag of pastries she brought with her. It is with an impassive expression that he hands the stack of envelopes back.Â
âRead it for me.â A beat and then he adds, a little reluctant: âPlease.â
He knows Gabi prefers coffee in the mornings, and black tea in the evenings, so he makes sure to have a fresh brew of the former whenever he knows sheâs coming over; so, with shaky hands, Levi gets to prepare her cup of coffee. While he enjoys the aroma of it, he remains faithful to tea; at first, he thought he didnât like it because he had butchered his first attempts at brewing it. But even after Onyankopon had taught him how to do it properly and he had enjoyed his cup, it didnât bring the same comfort as tea. It just never hit the spot.
She shoots him a mischievous grin, âOh, you sure? What if I read something personal, hm?âÂ
Levi just shakes his head, scoffing at the idea of Gabi finding his junk mail fascinating.
âIs this how I find out you have a secret lover youâre exchanging raunchy love letters with?â Gabi teases, wiggling her eyebrows at him.
He lets out a tired sigh and rolls his eyes, âjust wanna be done with it, â he stirs the milk into Gabiâs coffee, which now has turned into a cup of milk with coffee. âWe have a lot to prepare for tonight.â
She clicks her tongue at him, but still rips the first envelope open, âMr. Levi, your reading wonât improve if you keep doing that,â she jokingly scolds him.
Although Levi mentally recognises handing her and Falco stuff he couldnât be bothered reading before, thatâs not the case this time. Heâll let her think that for now, though, because he doesnât want to mention the pressure building in the back of his bad eye, itâs not important and she, a kid, doesnât need to know his newly found ailment of the week. He can see just fine around him right now. He can see Gabiâs big eyes and playful smile at the other side of the table, and thatâs good enough; smaller details, he doesnât feel he can do them, not without making himself go dizzy with a migraine.
Levi slides the cup of coffee to her and is pleased with himself when she approves of the colour of her drink.
âItâs from Armin,â she announces as she scans the letter.Â
From this angle, the soft morning light illuminating her face and thanks to his faulty vision, Gabiâs image stirs his memory. His heart faintly constricts as he is reminded of the many times Hange read their research reports to him during breakfast in the mess hall before presenting them to Erwin. Levi always wondered how they could read so fast, sometimes he even doubted they were actually reading at all, their words barely being able to catch up with her eyes; he never asked about it, maybe reading came easy to them as numbers did to him.
A high-pitched squeal from Gabi startles him, bringing him back to the here and now.
âOh⊠ohh, Mr. Levi,â she starts, her smile widening by the second âThis is good news!â
Gabi makes a show of clearing her throat and then starts reading âDear Captain, I hope this letter finds you well and in good health.âÂ
Levi canât help but let a sardonic huff at the irony of the greetings but doesnât let himself be bothered by it. He has written only a handful of personal letters throughout his life, and by now he knows itâs just something youâre supposed to say because jumping straight to the point isnât acceptable, or so thatâs what he had been told.Â
Gabi continues reading Arminâs words to him. For the most part, itâs a standard letter coming from him: he asks Levi how heâs dealing with the changing of the seasons, how Gabi and Falco are faring, if business at the tea shop has been good, if thereâs anything Levi needs that he canât get in town so that Armin or the others can get it for him. He tells him a little about the country heâs writing from, he even includes a photograph. Then, after the expected pleasantries, Gabi can barely hold her excitement and starts reading faster, trying so hard not to trip over her words.
âIf Iâm being sincere, we would prefer to ask you in person,â Gabi stops for a second to look up at him from the paper, gauging for a reaction and finding nothing, she continues.Â
Armin apologises for not being able to visit him before the holidays, Annie included, and so it is implied that he wonât be attending tonightâs reunion.Â
Sometime during the last five years, the Alliance brats had decided to make showing up at Leviâs doorstep together once a year a sort of custom; the first time it happened was during an early winter, a blizzard had stopped them from leaving Leviâs until the next morning. It had been a really nice evening despite the awful weather, Levi remembers, after everyone pitched in one way or another, they all shared a simple but hearty meal together. It was Connie who jokingly said they should do it every year. The following year, Onyankopon, Gabi and Falco joined them.Â
This year would be their fourth, and the first someone wouldnât make it. That fact sits heavily in Leviâs chest, stealing the spotlight from his throbbing eye.
â...Annie and I have decided to get married. The both of us would like you to officiate our ceremony!â unable to contain her excitement, she tears her eyes away from the paper and looks at Levi. âHuh?! This is good news! Whatâs with the constipated face?!â
That doesnât sound right. It figures that Annie and Armin would be the first to marry; in a way, he is happy for them, they clearly care for each other. No, that part is easy to understand. Their union is logical to anyone who knows the couple. What Levi canât figure out is why they are asking him such a thing.
He clears his throat, assumes itâs been 3 minutes and his tea is ready to be poured and so he distracts himself with that.
When he doesnât answer Gabi, she picks up where she left off.Â
He isnât⊠well, he isnât that close to either of them. Heâs sure Annie must have other relatives that could step in his stead. Maybe a brother, a cousin. Even Jean or Reiner would be better options than Levi. He isnât good with words or people like they are, he couldnât possibly give them a speech about something foreign to him as it is that kind of love, thatâs what people expect, right? His title of Captain is obsolete in this new world, so it canât be that either. Hell, he has never been to a fucking wedding.Â
Just⊠why him?
As expected, Armin doesnât really go into the details of their choice but does let Levi know they do not expect a fast answer and that they do not want him to feel pressured to accept it, despite how much it would mean to them if he did. Armin asks if thereâs anything in particular that he would like for his birthday, as it is a month away, and closes the letter by saying he looks forward to seeing him and everyone then.
When the letter is closed and put back into its envelope, silence falls around them. For a moment the only sound that can be heard is the clinking of tableware as Levi places the teacup back on its saucer.
It bothers him, that he knows he will be letting Armin down by refusing something that any other well-adapted person would consider an honour. But the thought of embarrassing him and himself, because he gave an awkward, most likely insensitive, speech, mortifies him. No, he canât put them and their guests through that. He will find a way to make it up to the couple, maybe he can⊠he doesnât know yet, but he will come up with something.
As he finishes his first cup, Levi realises that at some point while he was lost in thought, the ringing in his ear has subsided and now itâs back to that muffled, cotton-in-ear sensation heâs used to and he doesnât feel his eyeball pulsating anymore. Glancing at Gabi, he notices she is trying really hard not to say something, her brow furrowed as she takes a sip of her own drink, followed by a big bite of her pastry. Flakes stick to the corner of her mouth and for once it doesnât disgust him. Instead, it makes his lips twitch as if going into a smile.
âI can help you... if you want,â she says eventually, sounding uncharacteristically careful and small of her.
Levi quirks an eyebrow âHelp? with what?âÂ
She shrugs, âHow to⊠tell them you donât want to,â she avoids looking at him for the first time, finding the flakes on her plate more interesting. She shrugs again and tilts her head to the side, a thin line of a smile appearing on her face. â...or prepare for the ceremony.â
Not unlike many times before, Gabiâs words render him speechless, if only for a moment. He spares his tea a glance and he thinks: itâs bold of her to be so upfront about offering her help to him, and had it been any other morning, one where he couldnât think past the constant ache in his body, he wouldâve chewed her head off for simply trying to help him because he himself doesnât know how to accept that kindness.
This kid is trying her best and he canât help but feel somewhat proud of that.
âYou have shit on your face. Here,â he points to where the flakes would sit on his own face and picks his refilled teacup back up.
Gabi quickly wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, getting most of the flakes off. Levi gives her a thumbs-up with his free hand.
âIâll think about it,â he finally concedes and tries to ignore the little happy dance she does in her seat.
This time, when the amber liquid touches his lips, itâs remarkably sweeter than before.

i'm a worst case kid / in a plague pit town
zutara month, day 1: reluctant allies
summary: ever-slight canon-divergence in which zuko accepts katara's offer to heal iroh after feeling his too-weak, dying pulse, as his injury is bad enough zuko is unsure he will survive otherwise. not much else changes. it was never going to.
warnings: canon-typical depictions of injury, violence, and trauma responses.
other notes: title is a lyric taken from tommy lefroy's "worst case kid". starting pov is zuko's, ending pov is katara's. two pieces of dialogue are directly taken from the show.
*
The wind is whistling in this dry, abandoned, dead town, dead likeâ
Zuko does not shiver, and he does not cry.
He used to be able to tell himself things like that and mean it. When did that stop being true?
Uncleâs pulse is so faint, for a moment, he thinks it isnât there at all. Even when he feels it, he knows it might as well not be. He might not have long at all.
Zuko hears the other footsteps approaching, their silence loud and almost mournful, but he bristles on instinct. They canât see him like this, canât see Uncle like thisâhow could he be so stupid as to turn his back on the enemy?Â
âGet away from us!â he shouts as he looks back. Theyâre all staring at his uncleâs prone form, and Zuko turns back to him, too, heaving heavy breaths. He needs to do something, but he is weak, useless, outnumberedâ
âZuko, I can help,â the waterbender insists, and Zuko wants to snarl, yell, reach for his fire, and he raises his hand to do soâand frowns.Â
What does she mean?
He looks back to where Uncle lies prone.
A heartbeat shouldnât feel like that. The Dragon of The West shouldnât go down so easily.
Uncle shouldnât be able to seem so small and worn and fragile.
Slowly, Zuko lowers his hand and looks to her striking blue eyes. Thereâs no pity or malice there, he doesnât think, she just looks⊠still cautious and unyielding, but sad and sincere, too.
Heâs fallen for tricks like this before, thoughâAzula has always loved how easily she could fool himâand it feels a little like heâs standing on the edge of a steep precipice.
It would be naive to just⊠trust the word of an enemy. She has no reason to want to help him. He knows this.
The rest of them still watch his uncleâs maybe-dying form, but the waterbending girl stares at Zuko unflinchingly, almost as though in challenge.
Uncle groans brokenly, the noise like that of a wounded animal.Â
âHow?â
*
The world is dead silent.
The prince of the Fire Nation is staring at her with tears threatening to fall from his right eye, though not the left, which is twitching lightly. Sheâs never before noticed how he canât seem to open it fully due to the scar tissue set against it. Sheâs never had much reason to take in his features as anything more than the face of their enemy.Â
His gaze is still steely and untrusting. In this light, his scar looks violently red and painful. He asks after her offer with a voice that cracks, though he doesnât seem to pay that any heed. His hair is short but growing in, and heâs traded out his Fire Nation attire for earthly green and brown robes. He looks so different from when they last saw him.Â
He looks so⊠young.
Itâs all a little bizarre.
âBe careful, Katara,â Sokka insists from behind her, though when she glances back, his focus is on Iroh, a complicated expression playing on his features. Aang is staring at him, too, eyes wide and verging on teary. She doesnât yet know Toph very well, but Katara can tell her body is rigid, her feet tense as her toes curl into the dusty ground beneath them. Toph doesnât know that Iroh has been their enemy. But Iroh also helped them at the North Pole, and again just now against that princess, Zukoâs sister, she supposes, with her calculating eyes and strange blue fire.
Katara nods but says nothing further. If Zuko was going to make a move against them, he could have done it when his sister vanished.
They had turned away from their futile attack against her, and heâd already been kneeling at his uncleâs side.
She approaches slowly, circling to the side opposite him. When she kneels and reaches for her waterskin, Zuko nearly growls and takes hold of the edge of Irohâs sleeve tightly, like he might try to drag him away.
âIâm not going to hurt him,â Katara says, flush with indignation. The dirt beneath her chafes her knees even through her clothing. âI need space to heal.â
âIâm not moving, so forget it.â
Katara tilts her head and looks into his eyes as he glares back. He now looks every bit the angry, hateful prince that had tracked them around the world for months, but she can see something else filtering through his expression, too, something like fear.
She almost wants to laugh at the absurdity of it. Why should he be afraid of them?
âFine,â she allows after a moment. âJust donât get in the way.â
He nods tightly, and at the agreement, Katara opens her waterskin. She calls the water to her and sets it against Irohâs the right side of his chest, his robes black and charred. Closing her eyes, she calls out to his chi and focuses her energy on it. She doesnât know if she can do it, doesnât know if Iroh is truly too far goneâŠ
After a few long moments, his breathing evens, and Katara sighs. Across from her, Zukoâs features soften just a fraction, but when she meets his eyes, somehow, she knows exactly what they both are thinking, united in nothing but this.
It doesnât change anything, Katara's thoughts insist as her friends draw closer. Zuko tenses again. It canât.

@profandomhopper i was going to reblog the original post this comment was left on but i felt it divorced itself from the original topic so much, you get your own post for giving me delightful permission to ramble about this. buckle in people this is long.
so, DC is a big fandom that expanses a lot of different types of content, and like anything, is subject to crossovers. the obvious ones like Marvel are for the reason of being a similar and equally popular superhero world, so it's easy to transpose the worlds onto each other and overlap the characters. both of these worlds deal with multiverses and endless, endless heroes. it makes sense and there's no real stretch to think Batman and Spider-Man could co-exist. i mean, there have been canon crossover comics. and even some more random crossovers like White Collar have pretty easy to trace origins, being an actor in WC was a popular Dick fancast back in the day so there was some bleeding over that led to a well-loved niche crossover space.
but Danny Phantom and Miraculous Ladybug are where it gets interesting. because at a surface, MLB sort of makes sense. it's a superhero world, you're following a teen girl superhero and sure the mechanics are pretty contained, but the crossover should make sense. but when you compare it to the crossover numbers of other superhero media like say My Hero Academia, Ladybug takes the *crown* with such a bizarre popularity. and of course, DP feels like it makes even less sense. sure, you *could* lump it into at the very least, superhero-adjacent media, but it's not a true hero world like MLB or DC is.
but, the thing to always understand about DC, *especially* the Batfamily (which is where the crossover content propagates the most) is this: a *very* good chunk of fans don't interact with the comics. i would venture to say even most Batfamily fans don't read the comics and actively talk about it. we've all read a very fandom big Batfam fanfic where the author's note mentions the writer has never touched a comic in their life. typically, these fans are either cobbling together their understanding from fandom content, or by frankensteining unrelated DC adaptations to understand each character. you take Bruce from Batman: TAS, you take Dick from the animated Young Justice, you take Jason from Batman: Under The Red Hood animated movie, you take Damian from the DCAMU Batman vs Robin, and you read some fandom metas to fill in the rest and well, you've got some sort of an understanding of these characters. read enough incorrect quotes, some genfic, a couple of character metas, and boom, you understand the Batfamily fandom enough to start creating your own content. and of course now. now you have Wayne Family Adventures so it's even *easier*. a pretty easy to pick up webtoon that's filling in all the gaps for you. but i've been in this fandom long enough to remember before we had WFA and even then, this was still a common, if not the most popular way, to ween yourself into the DC fandom space. you cherry-picked the canon you liked and then plunged into the depths of fanon.
i'm not here to make in depth commentary on if i think this is a good or bad thing. trust me i have that commentary in my head, but that would need it's own post. i'm very split on it and my feelings are complicated. my feelings on WFA are even *more* complicated. because oftentimes, the attitude expressed by these fans who are frankensteining this version of the Batfamily/DC world they have in their head is they don't *want* to read the comics. the comics don't contain the content they're after. and to an extent, i understand that. if you're looking for light-hearted vibes of the Batfamily all getting along and having the occasional hurt/comfort moments but in the end, they hug and make up, you're right. largely, you won't find that in canon. of course there are so many comics to recommend for Batfamily interactions, but you have to get specific. you'll find them interacting in small groups, Tim and Dick bonding here, Duke and Cass bonding there, but largely, the comics don't care to balance the ridiculously large cast they've given themselves. but fandom does. it's easy to toss them all in a blender and ignore the parts you don't like. the default argument to ignoring the comics or writing something OOC is always "well the comics are OOC and inconsistent too" which, while a flawed argument that massively misunderstand how comics work as a medium, isn't an entirely incorrect one. you could serve on a silver platter to these fans, an easy and accessible way to get into comics and they wouldn't be interested. it's not what they're here for. fandom is always character-driven above all else. it's driven by character relationships and dynamics. if someone wants to consume content where Tim idolized and stalked Jason as 'his Robin' and now is trying to help him rehabilitate and they're super complicated but have this long epic forgiveness arc, why *would* they read the comics? because they're sure as shit not going to find that dynamic in the comics. it's laughably OOC and not canon at all, but that doesn't matter. what matters is the sandbox. most Batfamily fans care *far* more about the sandbox canon gives them than the actual canon itself. feel how you feel about that, this really isn't being negative toward that attitude, but it is a common attitude.
so, you have Batfamily fans playing in the sandbox and building their own narrative. common fandom headcanons are so common, you could practically write a guide on how the fanon Batfamily works with how consistent people are about it. or you could just read WFA, which is practically the new manifesto of it. even now, with this sudden spike in people talking about canon accuracy and "actually this happening in the comics", they don't actually care about the comics, just what they can cherry-pick for fodder. (even if they rob it of so much context they're just as OOC as they were before. see specifically: the recent phenomena with Tim Drake going from the woobified weakest member of the Batfam who everyone needs to save constantly and he's the smart boy but he's also the one with a sad tragic neglectful past who gets overlooked being the way Batfamily fandom played with Tim for years. but recently, people seem to be pushing this idea of a ridiculously badass Tim, Tim who *totally* has a kill count because of his actions in RR (2009) if you take them completely out of context, Tim who bested Ra's and is even more badass than Jason and he's the 17 yr old CEO of Wayne Industries being cool and flawless it becoming the new fandom zeitgeist. neither of these versions of Tim are canon, and the second fundamentally misunderstands his arc in RR (2009) but the shift has undeniably happened and it's been fascinating to watch. the same thing happened with people suddenly deciding Jason isn't the "angry violent Robin", he was a sunshine sweet boy who was perfect as Robin. neither of these are true, but the second feels more transgressive and new to fandom from cherry-picked panels.) the point is largely, Batfamily fans would rather build their own canon than play with the actual canon.
and then, you have Danny Phantom. i'm not into DP and have no interest to get into it, but what i know about it via fandom osmosis is this: DP fans sort of also don't give a fuck about canon. once again, the canon of DP is a sandbox, not a rulebook. the concepts and the characters are the draw, not the plot itself. i've seen DP posts explaining characters who are essentially OCs, but have become so dominant in the fandom via fandom osmosis. there are concepts and ideas about how Danny's powers work and potential concepts with his ghost nature that either aren't in canon or only happened once in canon and fans decided to expand on that and doesn't care about it's own in-universe logic. i've seen a lot of DP fans also express they haven't seen the show and they don't have plans to see the show. because the show is just some children's cartoon with some inconsistencies and a simple plot, as you'd expect from CN. the show isn't the point. no one cares about it's plot, they care about it's characters. they care about pushing the concept of half ghost boy to a logical extreme and seeing what you can get out of that. can you make it weird and fucked up. how much can you highlight on his trauma and body horror. what identity crisis can you give him and how can you build his interactions with other characters in his world around that and also make those characters fun and unique on their own. sure, the skeleton of canon is there, but the meat lies all in the fanon.
Miraculous Ladybug also exists in this similar vein. the characters, the concepts, those hold intrigue. and not even mentioning the fact the original concept for this show was supposed to be aimed to an older audience, so you can see the bones of something a bit more mature and nuanced under this typical, villain of the week magical girl transformation show. the show itself is a bit shallow and that's not a *bad* thing, it's just the medium it exists within being aimed towards children. but the concepts of a teen girl who's basically a sort of chosen one, a boy who doesn't know his father is the big bad of the show, and their weird identity porn love... square thing. those dynamics are *so* complicated and such a fun sandbox to play in with character-driven fandom.
so, at the core, you have three fandoms that care more about the culturally accepted fanon than the canon, with a good chunk of people often not even consuming the original canon content. and well, DC is an *easy* world to transpose just about anything onto. a boy who's half ghost and fighting supernatural threats? that makes sense, DC has ghost heroes like Deadman already. a girl who has this magical item that gives her animal themed superpowers? i mean that's practically the same thing as Vixen's Totem so that one makes sense too. they fit in pretty easy, no needing to change the world to accommodate them. and of course, if you're a fan of *one* fandom where you don't care for the canon content and only like the fandom sandbox, chances are, you'll get drawn in pretty easily to another fandom with similar mechanics. if you can teach yourself the DP fandom rules/concepts, you can teach yourself the Batfamily fandom rules/concepts. and well, since there's so much crossover in fandom members, why not write the fanfiction? crossover fics will always exist, but with such a shared member base, you have a really big boom.
it's why the characters you see DP interact with in DC are *always* characters who are far more driven by fanon than canon. Danny and John Constantine is a *massive* concept. for people who don't read Hellblazer comics. my poor partner, @divine-dominion has lamented to me pretty often about finding DP content in the Hellblazer tag that is essentially turning Constantine into an OC. because whatever version of Constantine is being written about isn't one bit comics accurate, and really, isn't trying to be. and the same thing happens with Shazam. you watch Young Justice and understand him well enough, you get drawn in by the character concept that you just run with it. people put their favorite blorbos in the same place because hey, wouldn't ghost boy be pretty cool in a city like *Gotham*. how would Batman even react to him. and then, the shipping. because ages for the Batfamily can be easily hand-waved and moved around based on where you plop Danny into the timeline, you have your pick of the litter with him, and same with Ladybug. of course there are the most popular ships but largely, the world is your oyster.
i don't think this is the worst thing in the world for either fandom. it's not hard to filter out the crossover tags and scroll past content i don't like. and sure, i see the appeal of making your blorbos from two different places meet. i've got my drafts *full* of DC/MHA crossover ideas because well, i like them both and think that would be cool. i think my only gripe with it is when DP or MLB crossover content seeps it's way into the wrong tags. using the above example, if you're writing about Danny and Constantine but there's zero content of the actual Hellblazer comics, i don't think you need the Hellblazer tag, just the Constantine character tag. tbh i wish this extended onto Ao3 and people utilized fandom tags better. if you're writing Batfamily fanfiction that is very clearly and obviously WFA driven in characterization and concepts, i would far prefer those fics be tagged with the WFA fandom tag rather than the Batman (comics) fandom tag. because well, you're not writing about the Batman comics. and there's nothing wrong with that, but it helps if you don't confuse yourself for content striving to interact with canon more. (this especially extends to Young Justice, by the way. if you're writing for the Young Justice tv show please, please stop using the Young Justice (comics) fandom tag. i'm at my wit's end- /lh)
the whole thing is fascinating. i've got zero interest in entering DP or MLB as fandoms because that's not my speed, but witnessing it as an outsider is my favorite pastime. i see a *lot* of posts going around the DC x DP space that are helping explain to people who's who, what's what, and understanding the canon/fanon of both of these properties so others can better enter the space. which is not something you'd need in a fandom driven only by it's canon content, but it is sweet watching others try to help newbies enter the space. it's a very inviting fandom space, i think, whether you lament it's existence or not. they're just sitting in their corner with their blorbos, and i gotta respect that. the posts explaining the Batfamily to DP fans are always fun for me to read, even if i disagree with some of the characterizations in them because it helps shine a light on what the fans of this crossover regard as "important" enough about each fandom to be worth including those sorts of primers. very fascinating stuff.
#necrotic festerings#dc x dp#dc x dp crossover#dc x mlb#danny phantom#miraculous ladybug#batfamily#dc comics#fandom meta#fandom analysis#but i can totally write more of these analysis type posts bc i *love* this shit#it's like fandom anthropology#fan studies#love that shit and i have *so* many case studies i could write about cultural phenomena in the batfamily fandom space#bc you can tell by my. everything i'm a comics purist#but i'm not totally negative to fanon#i roll my eyes. I cringe. I send long rants to my loved ones.#but i live and let live and i'm not going to jump down a fanon post for being painfully incorrect. it's just mean and not how we behave.#like there's a difference that and between correcting ppl who say 'in the comics-' when they haven't read the comics#but most ppl aren't claiming their content is based on the comics. and i can respect that honesty#like you're just rawdogging it#i understand the appeal of it. seriously no shade it's a fun sandbox if you just want cool blorbos.#it's *not* how I do fandom but to each their own#and ofc i want comic accurate fanfic but i can find that on my own. it's not hard to do#some comic purists act like there's *no* comic fandom content and come on now.#it's pretty easy to tell the difference when you're scrolling ao3. let's not be unkind to content not made for us.#but i'm serious please do stay out of comic tags if you're not writing comic content. it's my only gripe with this whole thing.#besides that be gay be free.#be cringe. it's freeing i promise.#i jest about being sick of that green ghost boy and that ladybug girl in fandom but it's all silly. i really don't mind.

When it comes to shipping or relationships in general in fic, if the characters are well defined and compelling in canon I don't care whether they actually have an established relationship dynamic or obvious reason to be hanging out. It's really fun to throw two guys together and think about how their neuroses would bounce of each other. What shared experiences they might connect over. What their mutual relationships might reveal.
Dunmeshi is this times 100 for me bc like even the smallest interactions characters do have are so rich and compelling. Almost every character has a backstory that could be a whole story unto itself. The layers of their histories and motivations are so rich and fascinating and fun to pick apart. I reread like 10 pages of one chapter and now my mind is spinning about Mithrun and Marcille and what they would think of each other at various points in the story and in post-canon. What they would do if thrown together in a crisis. How they could support each other or tear each other down.
Anyway this is part of why I think its so silly when I see people like complaining about certain ships bc characters don't interact much or don't interact romantically or whatever. The ingredients are here for a hundred different delicious feasts. What's wrong with getting a little silly with it.
#this is just my tastes of course but at least for dunmeshi I would loooove to see more weird ships. I want to see ao3 tags and go#HMM. OKAY. EARN IT FOR ME#like don't get me wrong I do have my opinions and things I'll never click in a 100 years#but like yeah sure have fun with it. I'm not gonna tell anyone they are dumb for caring

can't people just use the ooc tag anymore
#naruto#naruto shippuden#uchiha itachi#itachi bullying hours#also semi-unrelated note one day i'm going to teach myself to hack break into ao3 and remove every single useless tag i can find#like genuinely do ao3 users understand why ao3 tags exist. it's for organization#creating meaningless tags is only useful in the sense that it gives me more tags to block#which would be great if there was a way to permanently block them but afaik there isn't#this isn't related to this post i'm just annoyed by how many people refuse to even think about what the purpose of the tagging system is#yes i'm also guilty of this. i'm aware of that#let's grow as ao3 tag users together
