rewatching where no man has gone before and it's wild how different spock's characterisation is in this versus the rest of the series. like i know logically (haha) that the episode was so early that the show and nimoy didn't really have a grasp on the character yet (made evident by the "one of my ancestors married a human woman" line), but it also strikes me that this is technically kirk's first episode in timeline (production) order, meaning jim and spock have barely started to get to know each other. it's obvious from the chess game that they're already very close and likely have been joined at the hip since their very first meeting, so i like to think that spock is almost, ya know, giddy at this point, adjusting to the comforting warmth and joy and security he feels just by being around jim all the time because it's all so new, because he's never had anything like this before. spock likes jim so much and so immediately and wants to get to know him better and feels safe enough around him to let jim get to know him better, too. the interaction at the end, "i felt for him, too" and "there might be some hope for you yet, mr. spock." followed by a very not-subtle, fond smile from our dear vulcan first officer, just stands out so much against the rest of the series. young spock and his brand new blossoming crush for his captain and he hasn't gotten to the point where he's afraid of those feelings yet, just basking in how nice it feels to have a proper friend. so damn cute. it fills me with butterflies.

How the LaDS guys act when you're sick/have a fever

Very self indulgent because I am sick running that 38.3 fever and I know they would treat me right. I just wrote this and hit post, don't look at spelling mistakes too hard.

Zayne

Zayne probably knows you're sick before you even do. He sees your sluggish demeanor and hear you cough once and he's already near you with a glass of water, telling you to take the day off.

"I'm fine, just slept badly, I'll be better after a shower." You say, sitting in the kitchen while he comes back from the bathroom.

"No you won't. Now, stay still."

He takes the thermometer to your forehead, holding your face gently and you obediently stay in place, a slight pout on your lips. The beep is heard soon enough and you look up. A slight frown is on his face and you know you're not about to step out of the house today.

He prepares everything for you before he has to leave to work, not being able to postpone an important surgery to stay a bit more with you.

"And don't take more than 1200mg a day, that's a dose every 4 hours. If it's really bad you alternate between paracetamol and ibuprofen. Don't forget to drink a lot and don't-"

"I'll be fine Doctor. Don't worry about me."

"How can I not worry? I hate leaving you like this." His voice was unbelievably soft as he confessed this.

When he came back home that night you were curled up on the couch, a series aimlessly playing on the TV while you slept like a baby, an almost empty mug of tea on the table in front of you. He knew it was a bad idea and you were probably contagious but he couldn't help lay a small kiss on your forehead.

Xavier

He makes you go back to sleep immediately. You tell him you don't feel too good and you're immediately yanked back on the bed with him. He's not holding you too close, just a hand around your forearm as to not make you hotter than you already are.

"Xav this is not a good idea you're going to catch my cold." You protest weakly feeling your muscles relax into the bed.

"Then we'll be sick together, that way we can nap all day to recover."

You're too tired to argue as your head is feeling 3 times heavier than it should be. You feel a chill running down your arm and snuggle close to him, seeking warmth when you probably shouldn't. He welcomes you in his arm anyway, not being able to resist you.

Rafayel

Rafayel knew exactly what would make you feel better. A bath. With how much you're shivering, a nice warm bath will fix you right up. He urges you to stay right where you are until he finishes preparing everything.

When you enter the bathroom at his cue you're hit with the sweet smell of coconut and the gentle steam of the hot water. Suddenly you can't wait to get in there.

When you dip your foot into the water you exhale a breath you didn't know you where holding.

"How the temperature?"

"It's perfect" You assure. "Oh I will spend the afternoon in here if you don't get me out eventually."

"The water will turn cold."

"You can heat it back up, can't you?"

"I could but then what am I going to do when you're all withered away like a prune?"

You weakly hit his arm and chuckle as you settle deeper into the water. He leaves to cook you something and even if he prefers his baths cold he'll join you in a heartbeat when you ask.

Sylus

You go through another coughing fit and feel your throat dry up. You look beside you and see the glass of water is empty. You grumble and get up, your legs weak against the strenuous effort.

When Sylus walks face to face with you on your way to the kitchen. He raises an eyebrow at you.

"Why are you here aren't you supposed to be on bed rest?"

"I just needed water." You mumble.

He takes the glass out of your hands before you can protest and walks you back to the bedroom a gentle hand on your back guiding and anchoring you.

"Just call me if you need anything kitten. Your only job is to rest."

"I can get my own water."

"I don't doubt that, but now you don't have to anymore, how great is that?" He declared as you climb back in bed. "Anything else, sweetie?"

"Can I have a cold towel? My head is killing me."

He nods and leaves you for a total of 3 minutes before he's back with a tray of fruits, a mug of herbal tea, medication and a cold towel. He stays with you until you eventually fall asleep.

Caleb

Caleb walks home one day to hear you coughing up a lung. He rushed home as soon as he could when he received your text saying you weren't feeling too good and you wouldn't be able to go to the dinner you two had planned.

He didn't care about the dinner. He rushed to your bedside and sat on the edge.

"How are you feeling, pips?"

"I've definitely been worse." You say weakly.

"I've brought medication and a bucket just in case. Is there anything else I can get for you?"

He looks like a kicked puppy desperately trying to help but not knowing how. Your gaze soften and you smile at him.

"Just stay with me? Please." You ask sighing as the headache medication finally starts working on your throbbing migraine. "Tell me about your day."

He settles next to you on the bed above the covers, offering his arms and hand for you to play with while he speaks.
