Okay I think I’ve started to understand something about sex in Supernatural. The comments that Sam and Dean receive from people like Hendricksen’s comments about assuming their father sexually abused them are not just about sex but about class. Though instead of just being about class I would argue they are about Sam and Dean being coded as rural or as belonging to a peripheral space than solely about them being poor. Despite how many rural places may seem on the surface, sexual deviance is higher in those places than in more urban ones. This was demonstrated in the Kinsley study finding higher rates of homosexual activity in rural areas and in the (well known on tumblr at least) queer history of cowboys. This is because there is less enforcement of social rules in peripheral spaces and individuals can find a greater degree of freedom. This also applies to more harmful deviant sexual practices. Isolation also means that physically abusive sexual relationships and sexually abusive familial relationships are more likely to go undiscovered. The way that rural communities become close knit and refuse to see any flaws within themselves means that it’s easier to hide these relationships within the community. These sort of abusive relationships are associated with the rural poor in part because those social conditions do foster these things and in part through reinforcement when we see them in media. So when other characters make comments about assuming incest, sexual abuse, or homosexuality this is innately tied to the coding of Sam and Dean as rural and poor. The sexual microagressions are classist microagressions.

I just want to remind everyone that Wallace is canonically the worse one to sleep in the same bed with.

Scott can be a bad roommate in every other aspect but GUYS Wallace is the one that canonically snores and kicks in his sleep.

Scott sleeps like a princess with his back against the sheet lying perfectly straight (and also taking all the covers) and Wallace sleeps semi-on-his-side and apparently just fucking punting Scott in the leg every so often (not to mention he talked in his sleep too) and I don’t know why this is important to me but it is.

Because when people draw them cuddling in their sleep it’s always Wallace being normal and Scott turning and snoring and shit but you’re missing out on sleepy-cuddly Wallace turning and snoring on Scott. Let that cringe-fail 25 year old be annoying. Istg.

I’m talking to the Mobillace people too btw. Not that I’ve seen anyone draw them cuddling in bed (which is a CRIME btw. Draw that. For me.) but like imagine how funny it would be: Mobile stays the night for the first time and the hot-weirdo is a bed-menace, snoring and kicking and tossing and turning and suction cupping for warmth and Mobile is like “I want him to be my boyfriend” THATS FUNNY! Ratio/Aventurine can go two ways:

1. Ratio viewing Aventurine as…not a science experiment, but something interesting pull apart and study, enabling his worst behaviors just to see the consequences, whatever they may be

2. Ratio refusing to let Aventurine burn himself out, treating him with care because no one else will (including himself and excluded Topaz)

In either case, Ratio’s attention is firmly fixed on Aventurine because he’s smart and can actually hold an intelligent conversation with Ratio. He may not be able to explain in minute detail how something works like Ratio can, but he knows how to get the results he wants and practical knowledge is still knowledge. A gambling fool Aventurine might be, but never an idiot or stupid

Also, Ratio realizing he likes Aventurine and being Mad about it is so funny. Aventurine may realize he cares about Ratio, but it would be hard for him to accept and admit his own feelings because he feels guilty for any comfort he finds and doesn’t think he deserves it unless there’s an edge to it

I like to think they had a…relationship of sorts going into Penacony, because it makes things a whole lot more painful. It balances out afterwards though, because we don’t know if he’s entirely free of the IPC, but the less Aventurine is attached to the IPC, the less he has to keep up his facade and the more Ratio gets to see the man underneath, whether he goes by Aventurine, Kakavasha or a different name entirely

Twisters is so funny because we’re first introduced to the corporate sponsored tornado chasers and they’re just…a boring collection of dudes. Totally bland, with barely a single personality between them. And then in come the Tornado Wranglers: the hottest, gayest collection of exuberant fun-loving weirdos you could possibly imagine. And it’s like…gee I wonder who the good guys are.

It’s funny hearing the Yonan (or any other non-Yonan character with a southern accent—ex: Kremy) characters talk, because one part of my brain is like “I do NOT talk like that”

And then I become acutely aware of how I talk when I’m not really worried about articulating my words, and then I realize “oh shit, I DO talk like that”

on one hand i feel like none of the bats would do drugs or let themselves get inebriated to make sure their physical capabilities are never compromised and on the other hand i could totally see tim doing meth.

i’m kind of bored that the be-all end-all of horror sfx is realism. i would much rather see less realistic sfx that focus on visual interest/design and i really admire creative problem solving to achieve a particular effect, and i think the focus on realism makes it harder for low budget filmmaking to have a shot at being made and/or respected. i don’t think this is an uncommon opinion either but i think there’s just this prevailing assumption that films should represent reality and that that’s what audiences want and even when you’re making a movie that’s already based on an unrealistic premise as is often the case in genre fiction, if your movie doesn’t seem realistic, audiences won’t be able to suspend their disbelief and/or they won’t take the movie seriously. and sometimes this does seem to be the case! but also i wish we could all give each other the benefit of the doubt that audiences are able to recognize and engage with unreality in fiction. because it’s fiction. and that unreality in fiction can be intentional on the part of the filmmaker and can be done well and in fact be the correct choice for the movie overall. not that i want no realism ever but i don’t think it should be the only acceptable mode of filmmaking
