March 7th: What the fuc-

I think the first time Stelle meows back at catgirl reader, Catgirl’s face goes :0 and she’s mentally thinking that Stelle can speak fluent cat. Stelle has no idea wtf she’s saying but it’s enough to get Catgirl Reader interested and affectionate with Stelle. In fact, the more they talk with each other in meows, the more Catgirl Reader purrs and snuggles up to Stelle, exposing her belly or playfully batting her head for more attention.

…And ofc, March is just sitting there with a look of confusion on her face, as she watches the idiot and the cat converse with each other in meow code 😭😭

I love love love that the ccs will be forced to use the translator in order to communicate with the new ccs joining qsmp because that’s what it’s there for!!!!! it’s a translator!!! use it to translate, even if both of you are able to speak the same language!

I don’t see enough people use the translator, especially when the ccs are both able to speak (usually) english, and it’s still great that they can speak easier if they speak the same language, but the language barrier is one of the causes for the creation of the qsmp! Let the language barrier be a barrier in the first place, and let the translator do the work it was meant to do!

Let people who physically can’t speak the same language interact! It’s part of what makes qsmp qsmp, and even though it has impacted hugely just from adding people who generally create content and talk in different languages, I do think it somewhat lacks in the people speaking different languages category, because while that is true, it is also somewhat untrue in that all of the ccs can speak one of the same language (usually english), even if they’re not a natural at it!

Now, that’s not a bad thing at all! But, it does blur the speaking different languages problem that was meant to occur in qsmp. They speak different languages! Let them speak whatever language they want and let the translator do the work! Again, that is what it is there for! It is a translator! (I’m looking at you twitter)

And even if it takes a million repeats of the same sentence for someone to finally get what another person is trying to say, a hundred fuck-ups of the translation or a thousand language barrier/cultural miscommunications, again, qsmp was made for this to happen! It was made so people who come from different backgrounds and are usually unable to interact because of cultural/language barriers can interact, whether it start out negative or positive!

And I trust them (the ccs and fans) to communicate if controversy/confusion happens culturally and language-wise, and (hopefully) for the fans to not turn anything minor** into a huge drama, so I am extremely excited to see the ccs be forced into using the translator!

Boba stares at him blankly, not understanding what that has to do with his staying in prison for the rest of his life.

Tenten glances over his shoulder and then crouches down so he’s at Boba’s eye level. He brushes the back of his scarred knuckles across Boba’s cheek. “They’ll try to harvest cells from us, but we’re too edited—impure. You, on the other hand, are untouched. Tsad Droten is churning through us like mulch, they will approach you soon with a plea bargain.”

“Gar’gotal ner mav’cuyi.” The words fall from Boba’s numb lips before he can take them back. “Why?”

Tenten rocks back onto his heels, plastoid bucket scraping against his thigh plate. The silence drags on forever, long enough that Boba starts to think that he isn’t going to get an answer.

Then, finally, Ten’ika says, “Gar buir ru’juri skira. N’cuyi harycne viini goyust ures kyr.”

Mini translations:

Kih’ori’vod: little big brother (different from ori’kih’vod which means tiny brother)

Gar’gotal ner mav’cuyi: roughly, you manufactured a way to free me. lit. You create my freedom (mav being free and cuyi being exist)

Gar buir ru’juri skira: roughly, your father was burdened by revenge. Lit. Your parent carried revenge.

N’cuyi harycne viini goyust ures kyr: roughly, I won’t become exhausted running a path without an end. Lit not exist (most) tired running path without end.

The reason why English feels so distant and people find it easier to express their feelings and emotions in English is because English has become so common that it loses its meaning. The English language itself has evolved into just a means of translation.

Thinking about polyglot Luigi.

Luigi who grows up fluent in English and Italian, yet also picks up words and phrases from the other immigrant families in his neighborhood. Becoming an appreciator of languages and their beauty and complexity.

Choosing Spanish as a class in high school. It has a similar structure to Italian so he learns it rather quickly, easily keeping up in conversations with native speakers. One of the cashiers at the local grocers speaks Portuguese, and he realizes it’s also alike to Italian and Spanish, so he starts learning that too. The cashier is touched and gives him advice and new words whenever he stops by.

He and Mario were into Japanese anime when they were younger, and he’d make the connections between the subtitles and the audio for a while until he started to teach himself properly. While not necessarily too similar, Chinese and Korean came as a natural response. Luigi’s a little nervous trying it out with the neighbors, but they’re impressed at his dedication and assist him as well.

Luigi would get sucked into a language for little to no reason sometimes. Heard a pretty song in French; learn it. Accidentally set a movie’s language to Swedish and didn’t change it; learn it. Friend wanted a buddy to try Arabic together; learn it. Saw a Hindi vocabulary book on sale one day; learn it.

Some languages would stick more than others due to lack of use or resources, but he makes the effort to retain what he does know. Writing notes to himself in Portuguese, quietly insulting people in Arabic, etc. When he’s not with Mario or reading up on plumbing, mechanics or engineering, he’s sprawled out over a language book—mumbling words, highlighting important notes, writing his own examples on the side.

It’s a talent that persists in the Mushroom Kingdom. At a large multi-kingdom event, he’s drawn in by the sounds. Such unique and glorious voices he doesn’t know what to focus on. The sharp and guttural color of the Koopas? The flowing and musical tone coming from the Beanbean group? The staccato and bright sound of the Sarasaland representative? It’s nearly heaven for him.

Luigi spends a lot of time scouring for texts of their language or even writing to their rulers and asking for books himself. They’re all more than happy to oblige, some even setting him up with tutors. He takes to them just as easily as languages from Earth, and it doesn’t take long before he’s endearing himself to the natives with his knowledge of their tongue. It definitely helps him and Mario out a lot on journeys where people may not be as well versed on the common language throughout the worlds.

While he does have his own bookshelf of his own personal collection, Peach decided to invest in a section of the local library dedication to language learning. He loves it. Luigi himself assists with deciding what to choose and which books would be the most useful. He even teaches some of the toads when he gets the chance to.

TLDR; Just, Luigi knowing a bunch of languages and people adoring him for it.

I’ve been learning Norwegian with books and Duolingo for the last (almost) year and every time I read “helgen” I instantly think of the exact opposite of what I’m supposed to think of. Practicing Norwegian? Think of Skyrim. Playing Skyrim? Why is this town named “the weekend”? I can’t win. The wrong one is always the first to come to mind

wait actually the fairytale au i’m losing my mind a little bit!???! because OH that’d be so casually intimate and wild, bc canon jedi force bonds aren’t actually too deep, they’re kinda casual and more of a sensing of presence and a check-in with others over limited distance. but obikin make it work to the point where not only can they seamlessly talk to each other in their head, but they do it over stupid long distances too? they’re SO intertwined in the force it’s terrifying it’s gorgeous AHHH

obi-wan is like oh no I have touched this sith holocron and it has stolen my voice :( my padawan is only 11 and he will need a master who can easily communicate with him because he’s only been in the order for 2 years and does not need this complication and anakin is like literally fuck that noise you are my master and you’re going to stay my master even if I have to bend all the rules of the force and the universe to be able to talk to you through our bond that is going to strengthen into something unrecognizable because i demand it 🥰😇

like just imagine obi-wan angsting for hours and calling a council session so he can formally give anakin over to someone else to train and he’s typed up like a 21 page paper about it and his thoughts and reasoning with a note at the end that whoever decides to train anakin should reach out to him separately as he has also prepared a 78 page guide of the care and keeping of anakin skywalker

and anakin gets like 2 paragraphs in and just rips up his copy in protest

I’ve probably watched more shit but memory bad. I remember watching these shows tho and the fact I hyperfixated on sharks/the ocean for like 2 months.

Shows I Dropped: I haven’t dropped any shows recently just bcs I haven’t really been watching any, but I dropped Merlin, Supernatural, and Once Upon A Time several times. I want to finish them but I get to certain seasons and just get bored.

Currently Reading: so many fanfiction. Like so so many. My google chrome doesnt even show a number it’s just :) and it’s a hodgepodge of so many fandoms (I’m not about to get cancelled for what I read). After my tumblr scroll tho I need to read the new chapter of what’s one more? (bad decision) by @loveable-sea-lemon (I am obsessed with this fic in the best way possible. I apologize for nothing.)
