I know it’s played as a bit at first, but Chip struggling to wield Destiny’s Blade in Gillion’s absence is so important, because that’s just it, isn’t it. The weight of his destiny is something so great, so heavy of a burden, but there hasn’t really been insight into that until recently, and now both Chip and Jay are getting a look into just how hard it is to carry such a destiny. To raise the sword that Gillion does seemingly with ease.

But despite its weight, Chip keeps it close. He uses it when he’s out of ideas, when he needs options. He holds it tight to summon water, so Pretzel will have something in her bowl. He lifts it up to summon a shield when he needs protecting from a thousand different blades that would otherwise kill him. And there’s something too about how it’s Gillian’s blade, left behind without it’s wielder, protecting his friends despite his absence. How the manifestation of this magic is an imitation of Gillian’s - the shield protecting Chip as a swirling sphere of water, the shape water spell a Gillion classic of course. Even when he’s gone, his influence, what he’s left behind in both possessions and memory, are protecting Jay and Chip.

Maybe there’s something there about how whatever destiny Gillion has felt the weight of, it will always include protecting his friends - his family. Or about how their destinies are now forever intertwined, because Chip is using this Destiny’s Blade to find Gillion and it’s now his burden to bear. And it’s hard, and it hurts, and he feels the weight of his own actions now more than ever - but Jay promises he won’t bear it alone. And even while he’s lost, and unable to protect himself - Gillion still has a hand in protecting them.

I get so many comments on my Tim series like “omg it’s so hilarious/unrealistic that he gets sick this often, take that boy to a doctor 🤣” and like, I get it, it seems like a lot if you read the series straight through. And part of it is simply because I enjoy writing hurt/comfort fics, so of course that’s what I’m going to gravitate towards. Gotta spark that joy, etc etc

….but like, you guys do realize that people who have medical issues tend to get more medical issues, right? It’s not like “oh he had three things wrong with him already so he’s hit his quota now and anything on top of that is absurd.” It’s more like… this is someone with overall subpar health from a history of chronic neglect, so yeah, he’s probably going to be more susceptible to illness than most people 🤷‍♀️

I am glad you liked my ask about it! It's actually kinda escalated into a little mini series I'm currently writing.

You mentioning Megatron actually is funny since I was gonna put a snippet about him and Megatron being from the same location;

They came from a freak show/horror attraction where the gimmick was big giant sea monsters trying to scare people and tear into smaller creatures. It was part of a larger attraction.

Star was the least popular but he really couldn't compete with brutes like Megatron or Predaking, or ominous sea beasts like Shockwave and Soundwave. When his health was really starting to fail he was shoved aside in an even worse tank.

He came to the new facility during a baby boom they wanted to quarantine him first to get his health back up to shape.

The place only got busted when the merformer providers put their foot down after the attraction kept rapidly requesting new aquatic life when their old stock would die off.

Starscream was delirious at that point alternating between lashing out and not even moving.

Idk the thought of a struggling Mer like Starscream being a few doors down from a bunch of happy healthy well adjusted mers and their offspring never left my head.

oOooh yes that’s very cool, actually... Starscream was the most mistreated. He wasn’t a terrifying sea monster like the rest of the decepticons, really he only had his claws and spindly appearance, and even that couldn’t compare to Soundwave. He spent most of his life in a filthy tank. Or sharing his tank with Megatron, who was territorial, hungry, and equally as abused, so it’s an understatement to say that they didn’t get along at all.

But, after a while the freak show is busted for their horrible treatement and the mers within are either put down to end their suffering, or, if the mers still show signs that they might recover, they’re brought in to a proper, well maintained tank...

hmmm Starscream is sick and lethargic and extremely aggressive, not at all fitting amongst the other mers in the facility, all of whom are well-cared for, living in giant tank with their own ecosystems, happy enough that they’ve just recently bred. I think his tank is locked from the others for a while because the staff is not sure what would happen if they just released him into a tank with other mers in it. He was skinny and malnourished, but he was just as capable of mauling someone as any other scared mer....

But then they realize some socialization might be good for him. He seems to lack any hunting reflexes - the freak show fed them dead fish only and left it at that, so it would be good if some mers taught him how things work around here... Slowly, they open up his tank and let him see other mers... I don’t think it goes well, honestly. Starscream is still extremely wary of others and exhibits territorial behaviour, but since he hasn’t killed someone so far, he seems to be doing just fine....
