One thing I don’t get about people getting pissed off every year when AO3 fundraises, is that people have this attitude about it like “Oh look at all these terrible people, pouring out their wallets for this shit company”

But like. We all know the kind of traffic Ao3 gets. Millions of people use that website and see that fundraiser banner. And currently this year they’ve made $150,000. That’s a lot of money yeah, but I don’t think it’s from mass swathes of the user base giving them huge amounts of money. It would only take a fraction of the people who use Ao3, each giving maybe a few dollars, to get where they’re currently at.

Like I get it, Ao3 has issues and there are more pressing causes out there. But I don’t think Person Fakename is committing any horrific moral grievance by chucking $3 or whatever their way to keep the lights on.

Also like. How the fuck do you all know Person Fakename ISNT donating to other places???? Why do you just assume there’s all these people selectively donating money to only Ao3??

Oral tradition of storytelling predates written ones by millennias, and honestly, which one you like is just a personal preference.

The actual difference is

when listening, you have no idea how to write characters’ names

when reading, you have no idea how to pronounce characters’ names
