kind of want to talk about Edward’s relationship with his mother as a reflection of the one shot I wrote.

one note about my riddler is well he can’t lie but his opinions/thoughts about subjects shouldn’t be taken at face value. The way he talked to his mother and thought about her in here and here, while they felt true to himself, they’re really barely scratching the surface of growing up in an abusive household. They’re all victims at the end no matter what. He has complicated feelings about his mother. He loves her. He knows no one could love him as much as she did. He also, as he grows older, realizes how hard her situation was. He condemns her sometimes for his pain but he fully realizes it’s unfair judgment, and he’s just redirecting his pain and anger and maybe it’s the residue of the abuse he went through. He also doesn’t understand the depth of her own turmoil and issues. There are things he is unaware of and things he can’t even fathom. So her reaction to his words here is mostly born out of frustration. She’s frustrated that he’s being unfair, that she can’t tell him how wrong he is how much he doesn’t understand. She’s also sad about her helplessness, and scared because she’s also at the end only human with her own emotions and complexities.

* I usually don’t like sharing my behind the scenes thoughts unless asked for but I feel it’s important for this one it’s important to me that their feelings/turmoils are fully understood. ** Edward’s thoughts in the reunion should also not be fully trusted. He’s mostly confused about his emotions and he’d explain them more in future chapters of the penguin and the peacock when the timelines align
