chapter 16 - i miss her, so much
warnings ‼️‼️
angst!!!!! cursing, threatening someone, injury, and that’s all i think!!
practice was running longer than usual today, normally that wouldn’t be a problem since you didn’t have any lessons today but you had work right after. luckily your manager was also a university student so she understood that uni or sports may hold you back a bit.
not only that but your car had recently broken down, it made sense it was your moms car before it was yours, so it was bound to break down.
currently your team and coach were huddled together in a circle, sweaty hands clutching water bottles and small towels. all ready to get this over with, “as you all know we have the tournament tomorrow, if you have any plans for before the tournament cancel them,” many of your teammates wanted to let out sighs or groans of frustration since they had things planned but what coach says goes, “we have morning practice from 9 to 1 pm, i will buy you guys lunch and breakfast if you didn’t eat before and then we will take a break to regain energy after we eat lunch, so take a nap or something. it starts at 4 pm so we will start stretching at 3 and warm up a little and then we will take a bus to jyp university and we don’t play until 6 pm so use that time to eat and warm up more if you have to” coach finished going over tomorrows plans then dismissing you after.
you felt a little annoyed but you were more concerned than annoyed, heeseungs mom is a sweet women and loves you and often asks heeseung about you. she even lets you call her mom.
as you walked to your dorm with your teammate, and also roommate, you talked about the tournament. it was her first time in a tournament so she was understandingly very nervous, “you’ll be fine, once your actually there and get into it it’s not that bad. i swear” you rubbed her back as you offered her a sympathetic smile to which she returned before unlocking the door to your dorm.
“i’m gonna shower and one of hee’s friends are coming to take me to work, i’ll be back around 8-ish” you called out from your side of the bedroom, “your closing tonight?” she asked to which you nodded at as you collected all your things.
you were lounging around, your work bag, phone and dorm keys in hand. suddenly a light but firm knock echoed thru the dorm, “he’s here, i’ll see later!” you called out to your roommate to which she replied with a be safe. you swung open the door to be faced with the one person you’ve been trying to avoid all week
and it seems like he didn’t know anything about this either, your eyes widened, his mirroring yours. “um, i’ll be right back i forgot to grab my water bottle” quickly slamming the door and scurrying back into the shared bedroom, “im going to kill heeseung, what the actual hell” you nearly shouted, you were sure sunoo heard you but you didn’t care. storming around your dorm in search for the water bottle since it wasn’t completely a lie
you quickly spotted it and grabbed it from your desk, stalling outside the door for a minute, scared to face the boy outside of your door. “damn it heeseung” you whispered to yourself before opening the door, quickly walking out and swiftly turning your back to him to lock the door, turning back to him. refusing eye contact, “let’s get going now, i’m gonna be late” he let out an agreeing hum and started walking down the hall towards the exit of the building.
you and sunoo were at least an arms length apart, you making it that way. if it was up to sunoo he’d have you right next to him, hand in hand, but he didn’t want to press any boundaries. especially with everything that had happened in the past week, he thought you looked beautiful with your hair done for work in a way he’s never seen before and your work clothes, minus the apron.
you both made it to the parking lot, you following him to his car.
unlocking it and getting in, “you know where it’s at, right?” you asked, putting you seatbelt as an excuse to not look at him. “yeah, the one by the middle school” he said as he started the car, you peaked over at him. he looked heavenly with the way the sun looked on his features, he was just missing that gorgeous smile. “yup” you nodded
the car ride was extremely awkward and quiet, neither of you making a move to talk or even look at eachother.
after 10 minutes that felt like forever, you were finally at the cafe. you dug in your bag for a minute, pulling out your wallet and pulling out a twenty. “here, for gas and as a thank you for taking my notes and the snacks” you quickly said as you shoved the 20 into his hand and shutting his car door, almost running to the back employee only door.
“hey yn! whats got you in such a rush?” your coworker asked, “was just in a very awkward situation plus i’m basically late” you groaned, running into the back and quickly putting the apron on over the jeans and black shirt you were wearing you clocked in then ran back out. “i’ll take over on orders” you said to your coworker, grabbing the notepad and pen behind the register.
after long hours of switching between the making drinks and food to register and back to orders, it was finally time to close up.
you were sweeping the kitchen when the bell above the front door rang. “im sorry sir, we’re closed” your coworker informed
“oh no i’m here for yn, i’m picking her up and was just wondering when she’ll be finishing up?” a familiar voice asked, “well she’s closing up today so she’ll probably end around 8:35, i have some extra cakes and drinks if you’d like one of each and you can eat while you wait,” she said as she gestured to the extra drinks and mini cakes you sold at the front, “sure! could i ask you something though?” he asked, the voice wasn’t registering in your head quite yet and were too far back in the kitchen to look and see who it was
“of course” she said to which he leaned over the counter and whispered something in her ear, after he finished she whispered back. “i’ll get that then”
“great! that’ll be $8.75” he nodded and choose his form of payment, left her some money and headed out back to his car. after he gave his goodbyes it finally clicked, your not sure why it didn’t click when he said he was here for you but maybe it was because of the long hours right after volleyball practice. sunoo had came in and asked your coworker something, curiosity washed over you. quickly you finished cleaning up the kitchen and rushed up to her.
“hey so, what was it that he asked?” you leaned against the counter staring at the girl next to you, “he asked for your favorites” she replied, “maybe he’s got a crush on you or something” she shrugged.
your not exactly sure why but you felt yourself getting a little emotional. feeling that familiar sensation of tears forming in your eyes that had came all week, you quickly walked away, thanking her in a small voice. once you were finished closing up she has already left leaving you by yourself.
you removed your apron and took your hair down, the feeling sending relief thru your whole body. you grabbed the rest of your things and headed to the front, finding a plastic bag and sticky note attached to it. ‘thank you for the money but i don’t need it so don’t worry about paying me. i know you probably heard me earlier and i bought something and i used the money you gave me since you probably would’ve paid me for the order if you found out i didn’t use it so here’s the rest of the money i didn’t use :) - sunoo’
you shook your head with a small sigh and put the bag and note in your bag and headed out to his car after.
“ready to go?” he asked, you nodded. after another 10 long awkward minutes you made it back to the dorms building, “oh and here yn,” he handed you a familiar box, you soon noticed after inspecting it more that it was the one from the cafe, “i got it for you when i came in earlier, it might not still be warm but i thought you’d enjoy it” he said with a sad smile that broke your heart into a million pieces, “thank you sunoo” you smiled weakly, your eyes finally meeting his. you wanted to burst into tears right then and there. his gorgeous eyes seemed to be tearing up slightly, the tip of his nose was pink due to the cold outside and his smile. the smile that once held so much joy and happiness, now seemed sad, it wasn’t nearly as lively and full as his usual one. it hurt, you wanted nothing more than to hug him and tell him that you like. no, love him so so much and want him back in your life desperately, whether that would be as enemies, lovers or friends. you just want him back badly, so badly it hurt your heart to look at him.
you blinked and felt a tear slid down your cheek, followed by many more. “shit” you muttered, “thank you so much for taking me and picking me up sunoo” you said, voice nearly breaking as you rushed off towards the elevator. quickly pressing the 2nd floor button and wiping the endless stream of tears. you didn’t notice but when sunoo saw those tears fall he couldn’t help but let a few too many slip out as well. he looked down holding his hands in his head as he rushed down the hall to his dorm, eyes full of tears rushed to open the door, soon he made it in and collapsed onto his bed. sobbing into his hands
his roommate, jungwon, quickly sprung to his feet hearing sunoos sobs. “what’s the matter sunoo?” he asked as he sat down and rubbed his back. “i miss yn, so much” his voice broke, it hurt jungwon to see his friend like this. “i saw her today because heeseung made me take her to work and pick her up from it and,” he let out a sob as the moments prior replayed in his head, “take your time” jungwon said as sunoos head rested on his shoulder, jungwons resting on top of his.
“and i bought her food because i dont know if she’s been taking care of herself and when we got here she thanked me for the food and looked at me then she started crying and ran off to the elevator, it hurts so bad jungwon. i don’t know what i did” he sobbed louder, to which jungwon pulled him in closer. “it’s not your fault sunoo, i think yn reacted that way because she misses you too. she could’ve been surprised or something like that when you guys kissed at the party and her first instinct was to run away, but whatever is going on between you two i hope it works out and you guys can go to being friends at least”
sunoo nodded, wiping his tear stained cheeks with his sleeve. “thank you jungwon” he said as he sat up, “of course” he replied before standing from his bed, “i’m here if you ever need to talk or anything”
sunoo nodded, suddenly feeling tired. he let his head fall against the pillows and pulled the blanket over him, quickly falling asleep.

help how did you manage to do all that that is so cool im still in college the whole moving out thing almost seems near impossible at times ;_;
hey 🫂 i was thinking of some sillay response like "haha i dont know what I'm doing" but that seems like a lazy way out, so im gonna try and answer this as sincerely as i can
so the thing is YEAH moving out was a very scary and impossible-sounding prospect to me too, there was a point where i was just resigned to thinking that I'd never be able to manage it. and I was and am still scared but when it came down to it, the actual process of Moving Out ™ is just. booking tickets. figuring out how to pack and what to put in which bag. being on time for the train and the bus and making sure i dont misplace any luggage. talking to my new landlord and making decisions about the rent.
and individually all of those things are all stuff that we can do! Physically speaking, you can fold clothes, you can use some online service to get tickets, you can compare different places and rent, you can slap together a passable-looking resume based off online templates and submit it to so many jobs that statistically one of them just HAS to call you back. the big picture was and continues to be terrifying but it's ultimately made of a lot of little things that are absolutely possible to do.
and like, this isn't always a good thing. i actually made that post because I've been feeling really down lately, and I've been suffering from a bad case of Can't Do The Work I Need To Do disease and getting warnings for not meeting deadlines (this actually led me to kind of being fired from a job I had in March, lol) so I was feeling a bit like a failure. but I just kind of looked around and realized that i did end up doing the big Moving Out ™ thing that seemed so unimaginable a few months ago, and all those small things I did added up and I did make a lot of progress, but i was just so stuck surviving in the present that I didn't actually realize it until now.
and that might be you too! yes you're still in college but there may very well be a lot of progress you've made that you're just not looking at because youre stuck in "just survive to the next thing" mode. and even if this progress isn't tangible visible things like a resume or rent it can still be internal, maybe you got better at something emotionally, maybe you feel a bit better now than you did this time 2 years ago, etc.
also you will not believe the number of employers that will just fully accept "yeah I haven't completed my degree yet but I promise I can learn the job fast and try my best." Saying that worked a lot more times than I thought it would hbfkkfjjd.
so yeah i Don't really know what I'm doing in the grand scheme of things, sometimes i feel lost and very alone. but the ACT of doing a lot of big cool stuff never actually feels like a big deal when you're doing it, it just seems like a series of normal things that I know how to do. so it's okay if it feels impossible for you now, you don't have to really tackle all of it at once (I don't think anyone can), just keep doing small stuff and you'll keep looking back and realizing woah, I actually did a lot over the months. i hope this made some sense 💚
#once again i am very messy and just flopping around from one thing to the next to find whatever works#but. i am here if you want to talk more about this 💚#long post

Cranky
Summary: Erik does not understand the importance of nap-time.
Warnings: Fluff, dad!Erik, Soft!erik
Before your son was born you thought you’d be the mother of a momma’s boy or somethin... Boy were you wrong.
From in the womb, your baby boy would only calm down at the sound of his father’s timber voice.
“Aye lil man, yo momma’s tired right now and you doin all that kickin is keeping her up.” He’d say all serious but you couldn't help but smile at how he was acting and he followed on with “i’m gonna need you to bring it down a few notches” At that, your son would kick back at his father’s hand and the look on Erik’s face was too funny.
it had your stomach shaking and the little boy inside you pushing his hands and feet inside of you so that you could both feel and see his clear displeasure at being told to relax.
“Don’t get fresh lil boy.” You had to let a little ‘oop’ out when his voice got deeper and your thighs clenched up since it’s been a while. Ain’t his fault, the doctor just said to lay off it since the last time you guys went “a bit rough” and they didn’t want to chance an early birth.
The baby relaxed the same way you did when he used his authoritative tone.
“That’s right lil man.” He said after feeling the baby calm down at his command. He was smiling at you when he caught your eyes and you smiled back when he started to caress the bump caring your “future prince” as he’d always call him, since Erik stated he was the King and you’re his Queen so ‘lil man’ is the prince.
“Erik. You better make it up to him before he takes it out on me.”
“You lucky.” He said with a look like ‘what you think this is?’ But he saw your stern face and he remembered the nights of discomfort increasing since the baby was getting closer and he didn’t like you being in pain or uncomfortable during what was supposed to be a beautiful moment so he did what he could in hopes it’d pacify the baby for the night.
“Aye baby boy”- you always thought it was cute when he said that-” you know daddy loves you, right?” He pulled back from the close proximity to your stomach, waiting for the little hand or footprint to press against his large hand.
“Right?” He would look to you and you’d rub your underbelly to get the baby to respond to his now pouting father. You're convinced your baby inherited his attitude from, which would mean he’d be bratty from time to time because they can’t handle restrictions to their freedom.
“Come on baby boy. Daddy’s out here pouting”- He shoved you a bit and you just let out a bit of a scoff before continuing- “and momma can’t sleep with y’all fighting at each other” A little more rubbing and your little boy was pushing out his foot to meet the spot in which both you and your husbands hands were sat on your underbelly.
“I love you lil man. Can’t wait to meet you when you get here.” And with that, he’d put a little kiss on your belly before coming up to you, hands still on your stomach and fingers still brushing against the stretch marks that laid on the sides of your belly, and give you a soft kiss that gave you the same sparks as the first time you both kissed.
“I love you too baby.” He said before pecking your lips “don't forget it.” He said before turning off the bedside lamp and then laying behind you before letting sleep take over the both of you.
That was approximately 8 months ago.
The baby is now 6 months and your husband was a damn hog.
“Erik! Give me my baby!”
You and your husband have been playing an impromptu game of hide-and-seek with you son, Erik initiating the game after you wanted to put the baby down for a nap before heading to your parents house for family day.
“He’s mines too” He’d call out quickly before turning back to your son in his hands, continuing to make faces at the little boy and getting squeals of joy from the little body.
“Not for long you shit!” You huffed out as you started to make your way up the stairs, following the baby laughs. You were just tired and your husband wanted to annoy you, as you were convinced no man would keep the baby up for this long and not want to pass off their child to the mother.
“He needs to sleep or else he’ll be cranky and I already have to deal with you! I don’t need to be dealing with the both of y’all at once, plus my family members coming up to me afraid to ask you what’s wrong or tell me how to raise my baby!” You continued, finally approaching the two bodies located in your husbands office.
He gave you a look as he saw your slightly angered and annoyed expression, but he didn’t care.
He had has lil man and his momma could stay mad, he thought.
“Babe. It’ll be alright. He don’t give no trouble, right lil man? Tell yo momma to go lay down before she pops a vessel.” He said in that ‘baby’ voice that annoyed the crap out of you but you couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow up at the nonsense spewing from your husbands mouth.
So you nodded your head, went over to the baby and checked his diaper before kissing him on the forehead and making your way out of the room.
He don’t even know.
Just as you said, so it happened.
You guys reached your family gathering and guess what happened within the first 20 minutes of greetings from aunts, uncles, grandparents and such?
If you guessed a cranky baby, then you were very right.
“Baby?” You ignored your husband who now had his signature stoic expression placed on his face, but it slowly formed into a confused scowl at the jerky limbs and loud hollering coming from the sleepy child who, may I remind you, ‘don’t give no trouble.’, according to your big headed husband.
“Baby? Your so-”
“-oh now he's my son? i thought you had that covered? Correct me if i'm wrong but didn't you say he didn't give any trouble?” You were making sure he’d hear the judgement in your voice at his foolish comments made earlier.
“Yea bu-”
“-but nothin. Handle it before he ‘pops a vessel’” You said before seeing one of your favourite cousins and going to them, leaving your husband in a state of confusion while your son just wanted to sleep.
This went on for another 15 mins before your cousin and a couple other relatives came over and asked what erik did to the baby.
You simple said “He wouldn’t let me put the baby down for a nap.” which resulted in a few head shakes and inhales from the surrounding bodies, knowing that a nap could be the best thing for the baby and the parent.
“Girl go help that man. He probably over there trying to give the baby commands like some drill sergeant.”
“Don’t do my man like that” You couldn’t help but laugh at the way they all saw erik as this military man but to you he would always be your big softie, especially after the birth of your son. He just showed his love differently than others and you didn’t fault him for it.
You waited another two minutes before gulping down the rest of the juice in your cup before heading to your husband and distressed baby.
“Alright papa. Momma’s hear. I know, i know. Daddy doesn’t have the magic touch huh? Maybe he’ll listen to me won't he? wont he? That’s right. Come on papa, nap time.” You said, taking him out the grasp of your husband after washing your hands in the kitchen sink and drying them off once you reached to the two inside.
You checked his diaper and it was dry, probably changed before you got here since your husband probably thought he had a soiled diaper. You also saw the half empty bottle of milk in the baby bag near where you were seated on the couch and chalked it up to your husband attempting to silence the cries of the infant.
You had placed him on your legs once you got comfortable on the couch. Fingers running over his eyebrows, his cheeks, his nose and back up to his forehead and ears in the soothing motion. Within 5 minutes he was sleeping and your husband couldn’t be happier.
“Baby”
“Yes mr know-it-all” You responded smartly, not taking your eyes off the small body in your lap.
“Don’t get smart now.” You had to refrain from clenching your thighs together and looked at your husband with challenging eyes.
You saw him deflate slightly once he remembered he was in the wrong.
“I’ll listen next time.” You let out a little hum and turned back to your son in your lap.
You just sat in awe at the life you created with the man next to you. You were so lost in thought that you didn’t realise your husband had grabbed your chin softly before turning your face to his, placing the sweetest, most gentle kiss on your lips that left you weak once he pulled back.
“I love you” He said. That glint in his deep eyes made you swoon like it had when you first met him at the black owned coffee shop near the outreach centre.
“I love you too” You said softly before smiling at the grin that broke out on his face after knowing you weren’t so mad with him.
Hey y’all!

hiii! this month I’ve read a lot of great fics, so I decided is time to start my monthly fic rec… that means I’ll be doing a short fic rec and recap every month with my favorite fics of the month
note: the fics I’ll be mentioning weren't necessarily posted recently
!!! - please be careful and read all the tags and/or warnings before start reading and left kudos and nice messages to the authors <33
❀ Divinely Blessed by thinlines @thinlinez | 17k | Explicit | ABO | fic post
“I heard you, Ni. But what do you mean?”
“What do you mean what I mean?”
Harry rolled his eyes as he shoved his alpha friend down onto a seat. “Did you mean you lick someone out or…?”
“Nah, mate! It was me! I got licked out!” Harry could only stare at Niall in horror.
Alpha Harry prides himself on having the bravest and most caring omega who might or might not just fulfill his sudden curiosity.
note: for some reason i don’t know i fell in love with the ABO and found this fic someway and WOW! it’s really fluffy and sweet and while i was reading all i could think about was “god! i really want someone who love me like Harry loves Lou and viceversa” and also has a great smut scene, funny and well writen (cliff ily babe)
❀ Promise me you won’t run away by thinlines | 23k | Explicit | ABO | Español
“Does kissing me stop you from having bad thoughts?” Harry asked, voice muffled into the collar of Louis’ dress shirt. Louis chuckled at this. He trailed a hand down Harry’s back, feeling the muscles tensing along with his touch.
“I guess you can say that. You’re a good distraction.”
“Then I will be the best distraction.” Harry answered, pulling back and watched Louis’ lips unashamedly.
“Come distract me, then.”
Or the Prince/ Knight AU in which Harry left Louis, but the omega never once gave up on them.
note: this fic is beautiful and really REALLY well written, i need to say i cried and im the most cold person in the world but this caught me and I LOVED IT! but also when i finished it i got mad because in the end notes was the spanish translation and i read it in english lmao; anyway i love it!!!... summing this up, the fic made me thought about that LOVE ALWAYS WIN <33
❀ Twist the knife by jishler @jishlerfics | 6k | Explicit | Angst / Smut | fic post
Infuriating, but Louis missed it. Louis missed him. His thighs and his chest and breath and warmth and toothbrush next to Louis’. He missed sex with Harry but he missed his presence more: Louis would settle for watching Harry get himself off if it meant he got to see him; hear the voice that was like a soothing balm over all his wounds.
Two weeks after their breakup, Harry wants his toys back.
note: i definetely don’t read smut in purpose and the reason i’ve read this was because i love the moodboard BUT i need to thank the person who put it on my dash because i liked it so much!! was fun to read and the smut is pretty well written :))
❀ Hold you now by solvetheminourdreams @solvetheminourdreams | 131k | Angst with happy ending | fic post | playlist
The string within Harry's own sweatpants is now dangling outside of his pocket, stretched so far out that the seams of his pants have tightened. His eyes remain hyper focused on Louis, how oblivious he is—scrolling through his phone without a care in the world, while Harry feels his tilt on its axis.
Three years ago, Harry Styles said goodbye to communications consultancy firm McQuiston Worldwide, leaving a life of travel and agency PR behind. When he accompanies his best friend to a family wedding across the Atlantic, he'll be forced to reopen old wounds and face his past—one that no one wants to hash out, but may just have to.
note: at the end of the first chapter i was emotional, is the kind of fic that you feel every single emotion, the one you literally feel are part of it... it’s perfectly well written and please give it a chance and check all the stef’s works because she’s a super talented writer... if i say something else i’ll probably do spoilers so, shut up ana.
❀ The money mark by brightgolden @brightgolden | 52k | Explicit | ABO | fic post
Harry's heart beats faster in his chest as the name sinks in. The Tomlinson name is awfully familiar, and he isn’t sure how many rich Tomlinsons are out here in London, but he knew one. Seven years ago.
Like all fine things in the world, Louis Tomlinson ages exceptionally well.
OR
Where Louis is Harry’s first sugar daddy who dumped him over text and their paths cross, seven years later.
note: THIS IS MY FAVORITE FIC OF THE YEAR. sorry, but this fic is super well written, is omega harry + alpha louis and find smth like this is almost impossible! but i loved the fact that harry could be an omega and a sugar baby but he’s independant and strong and wow! it’s amazing; everyone should read it because it’s really good!! (ps. louis is the alpha of my dreams, he’s a complete gentlemen)
❀ Sweet like candy by neodiamond @neondiamond | 4k | General Audiences | ABO | fic post
Louis is an Alpha with an odd obsession for gummy bears. Harry is an Omega who makes friends a little too easily. They meet on the bus.
note: this is the cutest fluffy fic I have ever read! strangers to friends to lovers <333
❀ Literally making love by Brooklyn_babylon @twopoppies | 30k | Explicit | Robot/Human Relationship | fic post
Holding up one of the android's eyes to the workshop’s windows, he smiled as the light picked up the gold flecks in the pale green of his irises. Louis had always paid attention to even the tiniest details.
--
All Louis intended to do was rescue someone in need from loneliness. He had no idea it would be himself.
note: science + me = signal error BUT this fic. OMG. how to say this is one of the fics would be in my recap at the end of the year; i have read another fic by Gina and was really good but this is probably my favorite between both of them... all i know and want now is to create my perfect partner lmao.
❀ I’m gonna keep this love, if you let me by pixies @tomlinbuns | 26k | Explicit | ABO | fic post
Louis makes Harry pretend to be his boyfriend one night out. The rest is history.
note: this one is simple to discribe... the best of the best. one of my favorites abo fics, funny, teasing and very romantic. i enjoyed so much read how these two guys fell in love with each other. god bless this fic <33
❀ Beautiful stranger by lovelarry10 @chloehl10 | 66k | Explicit | ABO / Mpreg | fic post
“Did you want to- oh. Uh, sorry, I-” Harry stuttered, licking his lips as he looked over Louis’ bare torso, not focusing on the ocean ahead of him. “You’re very distracting, Lou.”
“Trying to tell me you haven’t seen a topless Omega before?” Louis asked, walking back to his rucksack and grabbing a bottle of suncream out of it before returning to stand by Harry.
“Not one as stunning as you,” he thought he heard Harry mutter as he started to rub the cream into his shoulders.
*****
When Alpha Harry Styles attends the Gucci Cruise 2020 show, he knows what to expect: clothes, clutch bags, and a few too many pretentious people. What he doesn’t expect, however, is to run into an Omega who is more beautiful than anything on the runway.
note: this fic is from 2019 but who cares, i loved it so much and i want to thank/blame @justalarryblog because she unintentionally recommended it to me in her abo fic rec post and now i want someone like this harry in my life... is it too much to ask? because is one of the most beautiful abo fics i’ve read this month and wow. if you haven’t read it yet, what are you waiting for??
❀ Waiting on you by beckywritesthings @beckydoesthings | 21k | Mature | Mpreg | fic post
“Do you want to touch?” Harry asks, taking one of his hands off to tangle with Louis’. His open invitation finally drags Louis’ attention away from his baby and up to his face, blue eyes wobbly with emotions. It’s clear that he’s too taken to really form words, so Harry takes the initiative to press their laced hands against his shirt fabric, warmth from the skin radiating through.
Louis pushes his shirt up to his chest, taking Harry’s hand and pressing it to hold the fabric in place. His hands return to warm skin, palms even more scalding now that there’s nothing in between them. And then, as if that wasn’t enough for Harry’s heart to handle, Louis leans in, pressing his lips right above his belly button.
“Hi, baby,” he says, lips moving across his skin softly. “I’m your… I’m Louis.”
Or Harry is pregnant with a stranger’s baby and Louis doesn’t know. It’s a minor detail that Harry’s both living with Louis and in love with him. No big deal.

a/n: HELLO. i’m sure everyone is wondering what’s going on and WHY i’ve been absent for a few months. put simply: things got hectic and i needed a break! i’m not saying i’ll jump back into being completely active again, but that i’m going to come on as often as i can! (which might be every few days or so! i apologize!!)
as a treat for everyone - this features rich girl wonwoo! <3
wonwoo stands at the street pole, conversing with his friends. the bar is unusually crowded. mostly likely because it’s a friday and there isn’t much else the townspeople would rather do than get plastered, forgetting the atrocities of work. his friend extends a box of cigarettes to wonwoo, offers him one, but he shakes his head.
since getting involved with you, wonwoo has attempted to forfeit smoking. it has always been something he’s done to pass the time at the street corner. plus, he likes the idea of blowing a big, stinging cloud right into someone’s face when they give him attitude.
instead wonwoo suckles on a lollipop that tastes like an artificially sweet strawberry, pushes up the bridge of his glasses, and folds some silvery hair under his beanie. he knows it’s about the right time for you to be returning from that dinner party your parents forced you into attending.
as wonwoo’s friend exaggerates a tale about getting into a fist-driven confrontation at a bus stop last week, someone strutting by on the packed street bumps wonwoo’s shoulder.
“choose a better place to stand.” the stranger rumbles, agitated.
wonwoo flicks up his middle finger indifferently. “fuck off.” he grunts, the fog of his breath appearing in the night air.
he’s feeling sort of agitated himself. your parents have tethered you to a leash lately, forcing you to all these fancy gatherings and opening ceremonies and dinners. to put it frankly – wonwoo misses you. your laugh, your eyes, the texture of your skin, your voice in his ear. he’s been wanting an excuse to get his hands all over you. every single inch.
that’s when he hears the ding in his jacket pocket. looking away from the dramatic enactment involving his friend driving a fist into his palm, wonwoo checks his phone to see a text from you. a series of images.
23:28 // JPEG.1034
23:28 // JPEG.1035
23:28 // JPEG. 1036
the three pictures load. he chokes on his breath.
23:28 // i know u don’t like when i spoil my lingerie but.
23:28 // don’t i look so cute :( so fuckable?? im srry but I had to :(
his teeth crack the strawberry lollipop into sugary shards in his mouth. that lace is squeezing your flesh in all the right places. the picture with your fingers splayed teasingly over your underwear, hiding your core, it’s enough to make him shudder, salivate even. he’s officially ignoring his friend’s story by tapping a reply, fiddling with the thin stick in his mouth.
(ww) 23:30 // u free now? head to my place.
he receives an answer immediately.
23:30 // hmmm why?
(ww) 23:30 // u know why. don’t act like such a brat.
already, wonwoo can sense the desire form inside him. pounding almost. like a second heartbeat. you’re usually compliant and bending to his carnal whims. maybe all this time away from each other has you forgetting just how well wonwoo can fuck that stubbornness out.
23:30 // it’s new. i don’t want u ripping anything!!
(ww) 23:30 // idc.
23:30 // so mean!! not even gonna let u touch me now :-)
(ww) 23:30 // yeah. ok. we’ll see about it then.
after sliding his phone back in his pocket, wonwoo glances briefly in through the bar window. he sees a bartender pour a glass full of ice cubes before sloshing in a surge of alcohol. at that, wonwoo gets an idea. when his friends question about why he’s leaving so suddenly, he smirks.
“need to teach someone how to behave.” wonwoo shrugs before jogging quickly across the street.
“i’m not gonna tell you again. keep your fuckin’ thighs spread nice and wide for me or else i won’t let you cum – not even once. you understand?”
a harsh dip in your stomach suggests the breath you just inhaled. after a moment of silence, he hears you comply, and watches with his hungry, intent gaze as your legs part open for him. wonwoo has been teasing you with a bowl of ice cubes. at first, he held them to your nipples, had you whimpering into his mouth while he simultaneously rubbed his tongue against yours. but the real fun began when he introduced the ice cubes to your lower region. it was a very different punishment compared to his past endeavours, a tantalizing one.
wonwoo returns the cube to the nook of your inner thigh, then creeps it slowly toward your core. you’re beginning to tremble with the restraint required to not snap your legs shut. the ice cube ghosts transiently up your slit, a contact you had yet to experience, and a beautiful gasp tears from your lungs. he swears that you leak even more onto the sheets.
he takes the cube away, then drags his warm tongue from the bottom of your pussy right to the top, delivering a slow, flat lick which tastes sweet and cold and makes him so unbelievably dizzy with how much he loves it.
“w-wonwoo, please, pl-please keep going.” you stutter, opening your thighs even wider to invite his tongue.
he shakes his head. “what else did i tell you? don’t ask me to do anything. you’ll lie there and you’ll fuckin’ take it.” smiling, wonwoo issues a tight grip on the ice cube and presses it right into your clit. you whine sharp and loud, your hands traveling all over your body in confusion, not sure if it’s more pleasure than pain, or a hot mix of both.
“or are you still interested in acting like such a brat, hm?” wonwoo utters in his deep voice. “ like a smug little princess who thinks she can tease me whenever she wants and she’ll still get my cock all the way inside her? nice and full, just how she likes it. is that it, babygirl?”
he feels the ice melt under his fingers. you can hardly piece together a response, just a very incoherent, “no wonwoo” as tears start slipping down your cheeks. wonwoo takes the cube away, then massages your clit with his thumb, warming you up slowly. a few jolts pass through your body. he can tell you’re falling apart inside with how badly you want to cum, though wonwoo had strictly told you to hold it. he rubs and rubs and rubs, barking at you to control yourself, your pussy so slippery with arousal that it’s running all down your skin and wetting the bed.
right when he feels you’re about to snap, wonwoo completely removes his touch. you wail at that, suckle in a shaky breath and cry his name.
“please, wonwoo! i-i’m sorry, m’soso sorry! i’m sorry for acting so bratty and sending those pictures, t-teasing you like that! but i just c-ccan’t take this anymore. treat me however you want, but please let me cum!”
he’s truly missed the sound of you begging for him. his cock twitches in his pants, reminding him of how hard he currently is. each time you cry the boy’s name in such a lewd manner, there’s another surge of pleasure and he aches even more, to the point where he could cum just from touching himself over his clothes. still, wonwoo must ensure you’ve really learned your lesson. so, he offers you a deal. he’ll get to watch you pleasure yourself with the ice cube until he cums.
and so wonwoo sits in a chair based at the end of the bed, a hand stuffed down his pants, watching you swirl an ice cube at your sensitive core. he guides you every now and then: “hold it right there, pretty baby. let it melt all the way down. that’s it, sweetheart. n-now rub it, okay? f-finger yourself too. nnrgh, f-fuck. fuck you sound so wet. m’gonna c-cum—”
his strokes lash faster until wonwoo’s head rolls back against the chair, his eyes blinking shut while he chases his high. he hears you continue to whine as he cums, his cock throbbing in his hand, still so hard and heavy. in fact, wonwoo requires a moment just to breathe and let the heat circulate properly through his body.
with his fingers covered in the sticky mess of his cum, wonwoo approaches the bed again, fingering it as deep as he can inside you. he’s unable to remove his gaze from the filthy sight. there’s something so raw and intimate about watching his own seed getting pumped into you that sets his whole body aflame. he decides to let you orgasm as well, stimulating your g-spot consistently, letting you clamp down tight and ride his hand until you’ve got a full fix.
wonwoo supposes he’s done his job.
“i don’t think i’ll ever be able to look at an ice cube the same way again.” you laugh, sitting back against the headboard, tucked into his t-shirt.
drawing a warm washcloth between your thighs, wonwoo blinks at you, a very sly grin forming on his mouth. he plants a kiss on your nose.
“good. means it worked.” the boy says.
he folds the cloth over and finishes the last of his cleaning, ensuring there’s nothing more of his fluids that are still leaking out or anything sticking from your orgasm. grabbing your overnight bag off the floor, wonwoo pulls out a fresh pair of underwear and helps you slide into them. your lingerie sits in a pile off to the side, a few lace straps ripped.
“sorry about your little outfit.” wonwoo apologizes, staring at you earnestly. “it was pretty. you look good in everything.” he squeezes your hip and presses a soft kiss to your lips.
“it’s okay.” you murmur. “i’ll order something even better. and i’ll surprise you with it. maybe for your birthday. sound good?”
“mmhm.” wonwoo purrs, pulling you down with him to cuddle up close for the night.
“as long as i can take it off you, sweetheart, i’m fine with that.”

Just like you ( Chapter 1)
Summary: When the daughter of Tony Stark puts together the new generation of the Avengers the last thing she expected was how hard it was going to be to persuade all their protogies.
Scarlett’s P.O.V. Change was coming and I knew it, dad knew it but you still weren’t prepared for what was happening . “I’m sorry you want to what? ” Lauren was hot on my tail to the kitchen “ Scar just hear me out okay, just think of all the good we can do in the word think of what our parents did and how much people loved them” I scoffed “ Lauren I’m nothing like my father I’m not a war hero from the 40’s I don’t have a vibranium shield and I definitely don’t want to be tracked by S.H.E.I.L.D. 24/7.” “ We don’t have to work for shield we can work for ourselves.” “ The answer is no Lauren” I grabbed my bookbag . “I have to go to school; it was good seeing you.” I brushed passed her and headed out the door and down my driveway. The motorcycle that’s usually in the garage was gone which meant dad was on what he liked to call “a business trip” which meant he was off being Captain America. Lauren was definitely up to something big ; I mean what was she thinking putting together the world’s biggest and strongest heroes’ kids? Maybe it wasn’t such a bad idea since hydra was coming back to the scene spitting out new villains every day. I walked to the bus stop looking at my watch waiting for it to come when I heard screaming “HELP ME PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP.” I looked over and saw a man trying to take a lady’s purse. Another day in New York, I guess. Before I could move a man was already helping the lady get her purse back or that’s what he thought before he was punched in the face by the guy falling to the ground. I chuckled and put my phone in my pocket and cracked my knuckles. I walked over and tapped on the man’s shoulder. “Excuse me sir would you mind returning this nice lady’s purse?” he scoffed and shook my hand off his shoulder. “Listen here little bitch go away before I ruin that pretty little face of yours and you end up like that guy.” I laughed and dropped my book bag. “Sir I’m not going to ask you again.” He swung his hand back and I dodged it throwing a punch connecting to his jaw causing him to fall and dropping the purse. “I THINK YOU BROKE MY JAW.” I rolled my eyes “I didn’t even hit you that hard.” I grabbed the purse and handed it back to the lady. “Here you go ma’am.” She smiled and thanked me and I grabbed my bookbag looking over to see the bus leaving. “AH FUCK” I ran after it “ WAIT WAIT PLEASE WAIT.” It turned the corner disappearing; dad is going to kill me if he knows I missed another day of school. I ran dan down an alley as fast as I could jumping over trash cans and flipping over traffic cones.” SORRY.” I yelled back at a man who I accidently knocked down. The pros and cons of being captain Americas daughter pro is that you also get his amazing agility and strength con is well you get his amazing agility and strength. It’s a blessing and a curse. By the time I got to school the first bell had ringed and kids were also running into the school. I walked to my locker and opened it stuffing my bookbag inside and taking out the books I needed quickly slamming it.”someone missed the bus.” I screamed. “LAUREN WHAT THE HELL.” She smirked “ I saw you save that lady scar you’re a hero.” I rolled my eyes and walked pass her. “Stark you don’t go here this is trespassing, and I would like if you didn’t follow me to school.” She followed me “Dude, you literally saved someone’s life today and your worried about me stalking you.” “ I didn’t save anyone I just returned a lady’s purse it was no big deal.” She got in front of me and I stopped walking “ scarlett just hear me out and after I say this and you still don’t wanna do it ill leave you alone I swear.” I nodded. “Fine but you have 5 minutes or im gonna be late.”

anything for you 1
jungkook x reader (ft. taehyung)
genre: angst
warnings: jungkook is a meanie here,, curse words,, mentions of death, suicidal thoughts,, overthinking,, mentions of sex.
synopsis: you’d do anything to make him happy. even if it hurts you.
S/N is sister’s name
“hey, i noticed you didn’t really eat anything during lunch so i got you this.” you say as you tapped the boy who had his head down on his desk. he looked up at you and scoffed. “you woke me up for this?” he says with an attitude. “oh and i graded your paper. mrs. lim said that if you needed help you can ask her or jinah over there. i’m not really good at explaining so i can’t do much for you.” you say as you hand him his paper which he scored a 30/50 on. “even if you were an option i still wouldn’t pick you. stop trying so hard it’s annoying.” his friends looked at you in pity but continued to do their work. you never really understood why jungkook disliked you. you don’t remember doing anything bad to him or at least something that would irritate him. the truth is you actually liked him. ever since he transferred, you, along with many other girls had your eyes on him. you weren’t a try hard though. you’d buy him food, give him water, or offer to help him with his homework but nothing more. you did this because you knew that he didn’t really care for himself. he barely ate at school which is probably why he was so tired all the time.
when the bell rang everybody left except for jungkook. he walked over to jinah who was still fixing her backpack strap. “hey uh...i was told you could like help me out with my homework? can you?” he seemed so innocent and kind when he asked her. why did he have to be so rude to me? you asked yourself. she politely agreed and you overheard them saying that after school they’ll head over to the library. everyday you’d volunteer at the library since ms. jay needed to go home early to feed her cats. she said she didn’t want to bother you but you insisted since the library was a really relaxing area no one really went to. you enjoyed it there.
students returned books and some checked them out. you had your eye on jungkook and jinah and to be honest it looked like they were flirting more than studying. you were envious of jinah. she had the perfect smile, body, and attitude. cliché RIGHT. who wouldn’t want a girl like that right? you knew exactly what jungkook saw in her. you on the other hand are not really that interesting which is probably why you only had like two friends who barely talked to you. you were grateful for them though, even though they didn’t feel the same towards you.
as you were typing in the list of kids who still need to return books, you saw how mr. kim was struggling with picking up the trash the students left since he was a bit old. “mr. kim, let me help you with that. why don’t you sit down for a sec? i have some cookies and a water bottle in my backpack. you can eat them while i clean this up.” you grab his garbage bag and started picking up the trash the students dropped. “why are you such a good kid, y/n? you remind me of my grandson. he goes to a different school though. i think you’ll be good together.” he says while taking a cookie from the container you took out of your backpack. “ahh. mr. kim, i kind of have my eyes on someone else right now.” you say as he nods his head and continues to eat.
jungkook was eyeing you from the far end of the table. why were you so nice to everybody? he thought to himself.
you saw jinah get up and leave after bidding goodbye to jungkook, but jungkook stayed at the table. there were only four people in the library; you, jungkook, and two other kids who were trying to look for an interesting book. you walked towards them and asked if they needed any help finding a book. when they told you what they wanted you led them to where the books were. as you were walking though you felt someone glaring at you. your first thought was jungkook because who else would be staring at you?? a ghost??? when the students checked out their books and left it was finally 6pm which meant it was time for you to LEAVE. you walked up to jungkook who was still reading his book. “hey uh. im about to lock up.” he scoffed again and glared at you. “so when other kids are here you offer them help but when it’s only me left you have to ‘lock up’ you were BEYOND irritated. all you wanted was to go home, eat, and sleep but jungkook was keeping you away from that. “it’s 6. i’m supposed to lock up at 6. so. leave.” he was shocked. you’ve never given him attitude, it was always the other way around. you walked away and gathered all of your things getting ready to leave. jungkook also packed up his things while you held the door open for him. when he walked you shut the door loudly and locked the door.
you walked behind jungkook, but not too close because you didn’t want it to seem like you were following him. you sat on the bench while jungkook got in his car. you saw him look at you but you quickly look away to avoid the awkwardness. after a while you saw him standing right in front of you.
“why are you sitting here? go home?” why was he so concerned you thought to yourself. “i’m waiting for the bus. you go home.” he then grabbed your hand and led you to the passenger seat of his car.
“it‘s dark out. tell me where you live.” he opened the passenger’s seat and you went inside his strawberry scented car.
“i’ll just uh. point.” you say while smiling.
cute he thought NO IT’S Y/N. NO. jungkook shook that thought out of his mind and started his car. he played some music to make the situation less awkward.
you on the other hand were way past feeling awkward. you’d check your messages even though no one has texted you. hell, you even went on the weather app just to check the weather in london.
“uh just go right my house is the first one on the block.” you say as he nods.
“thank you. i appreciate it.” as you tried to get out of his car, he grabbed your arm. “why are you so nice to everyone? especially me? i’m such a dick towards you.” you laugh a little at his question. “i’m nice to everybody. especially you because i know you don’t really take care of yourself.” he nods and you thank him again.
when you get inside of your house you hear yelling coming from your parents’ room again. ever since your sister passed away they weren’t the same as before. you hated it. you hated how your sister was gone instead of you.
you just wanted someone to talk to, but nobody really wanted to talk to you. your friends..would you even consider them friends at this point? you shook your head and tried to focus on something else.
jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook jungkook think of jungkook. you say to yourself.
the next day was the same as always. you’d walk through the hallways and see people with their friends. people who actually wanted to talk to them. you wondered how it felt to actually be wanted.
you sat down on your chair and got out your books to start writing down the agenda, but someone tapped your shoulder. “hello! i’m mira. would you like to be my friend? i’m new here.” you smiled at her and introduced yourself.
when class started your teacher told mira to come up and introduce herself. “hi! i’m mira. i transferred from (school name). i hope to become your friend!” everyone says hello and she sits back down. you noticed how jungkook’s eyes followed her from the front of the class to her desk. you felt a bit jealous, but didn’t think about it too much.
when lunch came around you tapped jungkook’s shoulder to give him his food. “i got you this sandwich and i baked cookies last night so i thought you’d like it.” he looked at you with no expression and you waited for a thank you but as always he didn’t say it and put his head back down.
“y/n, do you think we can hang out after school? get to know each other a little bit?” mira said with a cute expression on her face. you agreed and she gave you a hug.
after school you and mira went to the ice cream shop near by. “really? i’m five months older than you? i thought i’d be younger since you’re so mature!” you laugh and say you get that a lot. “so earlier i noticed you gave food to that jungkook dude. do you like him?” she says as she wiggles her eyebrows. “kinda.” she squeals while she shoves the ice cream in her mouth.
after eating you both bid your goodbyes and you walked home. finally. i finally have a friend. you thought to yourself.
you came home to your parents fighting again. usually to cope with how you’re feeling you bake in the middle of the night. it was a weird coping mechanism but it worked. baking helped you relax and think about other things.
“if it wasn’t for your fucking daughter! s/n would still be alive right now!” you heard your dad yell. he was right though. it was all your fault. and everyday you’d beat yourself up over it. you quickly went up to your room and started sobbing. you looked at the picture of you and your sister together. “why was it you? couldn’t it just be me? if it was me they wouldn’t be arguing. i miss you s/n.” you kissed the picture and hugged it and drifted to sleep.
the next day you did not feel like being nice to anyone or at least talk to anyone. you put your black hoodie over your head to avoid attention as you walk through the halls.
when you walk into class you see jungkook flirting with mira. you weren’t in the mood to deal with him today so you didn’t even bother. lunch came around and you kept your head down on your desk with your hood on. “y/n? you ok? i’m gonna go get some food. do you want anything.” mira asked. you shook your head and thanked her.
“yo kook, what’s wrong with y/n she didn’t give you food today.” jimin asks. “i don’t know. she’s usually always doing something.” jungkook says as he shrugs his shoulders.
when the bell rang you gathered all of your stuff and jungkook saw how your eyes were red. were you crying? he thought to himself.
you walked outside the school building and thought it was your lucky day because it was raining and you didn’t bring an umbrella.
you sat on the bench, drenched in water, watching students go by laughing with their friends, but suddenly feel the rain stop. you look up and see an umbrella under you.
“thank you, but there’s no point. i’m already wet.” the boy chuckles and says, “ha. that’s what my ex girlfriend said.” not caring whether or not he was going to get wet, the brown haired boy sat next to you. “i’m taehyung. i just transferred today. i’m in my fourth year. let me guess are you in your second?” he says, still holding the umbrella under the both of you. “nope. third.” he nods his head and points at his car. “if you want i can give you a ride home?” he asks with a smile. “really? i’m drenched though. your seats will get wet.” “don’t worry about it. it’s leather.”
as you walked really close next to taehyung, you didn’t know jungkook was watching the two of you from afar.

I would’ve posted this earlier but, alas, I passed out early. This is a longer one, but tumblr got its act together so I can post it all in one part. You guys know where the other chapters are, and if you don’t, they’re at the end of the chapter. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go eat straight Nutella.
Chapter 10
“I’m thinking about getting some gloves.”
He looks over at you as he laces up his skates. “Yeah?”
“Yeah,” you nod, smiling slightly to yourself as you look your hands over, trying to imagine what they would look like. “Like, badass, fingerless gloves.”
He smiles. “Dude, those would look metal as fuck.”
“Totally, right?” Your smile widens. “With studs and shit.”
He gets to his feet, hopping onto the ice. “Hell yeah.” He drops a puck to assault as you go back to your backed-up coursework the best you can—your handwriting has gone to hell, but you are working with what you have.
You flinch at the crack of his stick, the cross of the T ending up underneath the letter somehow. A cheer from Casey tells you the rubber cylinder’s fate.
‘I swear I learned this.' You squint at the basic algebra, the pencil, crudely held in your fist, hovering over the packet. ‘Why can’t I do this?’
“How’s your pile coming along?” Another crack.
“It’s comin’.” You run your fingers through your hair. “Just… trynna remember how to do ne—… subtraction.” ‘Not debate. Negating is debate.’
He laughs. Another crack. “Man, that thing really fucked you over, huh?”
“Thoroughly.” You decide against continuing to torture yourself, having been at it for the past five hours—most of it in the library before Casey invited you to watch him practice some more— and set the large stack of homework back in your bag. “Are you actually making the shots?”
“Casey Jones doesn’t miss shots.” Another crack.
“Pardon me, oh almighty king of the ice.” You stand on your good leg, grabbing the side of the wall to watch as he went back to collect his pucks.
You two have managed to bond over a mutual respect/love of heavy metal and hockey and, seeing as you are staying out of the Hamatos’ hair for a while—not upon request, but out of courtesy—you have managed to spend a lot more time with him than you may have otherwise. Your school has not assigned Biology any big projects yet, so, until you are assigned it, you do not have anything other than your health to stress about.
“Pardon accepted.” You watch his form as he performs another slap shot.
“You…” you trail off, trying to remember what you were going to say.
“What?”
You shrug. “Dunno.” You lean your head on your arms. “I’ll remember eventually.”
He drops the second puck. “Got any plans after this?”
You sigh. “Nope. Probably gonna head home and try not to cut my fingers making dinner again.”
He takes another shot. “Then let’s go out after this. You and me.”
You smile. “What, don’t have any plans either?”
“Nah.” He drops the third. “Dad doesn’t care if I’m home late anyway.”
“True, true.” You have decided against prying into his home life; it is not your place and does not concern you in the slightest. “Where do you wanna go?”
“Wanna catch a movie? Heard there was this new pizza place just a couple blocks down if you wanna try to sneak it in.”
You snicker. “In the box and all?”
“Yes.” He grins mischievously and hits this one off the walls. Some way, somehow, it still makes it into the goal. “I bet your sweatshirt is big enough to stick the box under.”
You stick your tongue out at him. “Not in the mood for burns on top of scars, Jones,” you reprimand him teasingly. “That just ain't it.”
“Then you can wear mine under that one and—”
“Your sweat-soaked hoodie you’ve been practicing in all day?” You cringe at the thought. “Over my dead body.”
“I mean…” he licks his teeth, smile widening, “it’s not exactly like you’re in the best—”
You laugh. “So not cool!”
He puts his hands up in defense, gliding over. “I mean, am I wrong, though?”
“That is completely besides the point, you ass.” You balance on your foot, crossing your arms. “Damn. Making fun of the girl with the broken leg.”
He leans against the wall. “Man, you were dying before the crash.”
You roll your eyes. “Alright, whatever, Jones.” You lean against your hand. “How’s Johanna,” you sing.
He presses his hand against your face, pushing you away. “Annie is doing fine.”
You grin, steadying yourself on the wall. “Do you feel her, Johanna?”
“I’m gonna tell her you call her that if you don’t quit it.”
“Do you think that walls can hide her? Even when you’re at her window?”
He pushed his arm all the way out. You hop back.
“Her name isn’t even Johanna.”
“But she is Johanna,” you whine in protest, not bothering to hide your mirth. “She has the hair, the voice, the disposition. She’s an ingénue and you know it.” You have been teasing him about this for a while now: the girl in question—Annabelle Halshaw, a year below you two—had caught his eye when he had heard through the grapevine that she was the lead singer in some indie band. When he had shown you a picture and told you the story, you insisted on calling her Johanna for her golden hair and soft, sweet singing voice he had proudly had you listen to.
“She’s not.”
You roll your eyes, sitting back down as you grab your bag. “Lie to yourself all you want,” you goad, “but deep down, you know in your heart that the truth,” you put a finger up, “is apparent.”
He hops off the ice, sitting next to you as he unlaces his skates. “Whatever.” He smirks. “How’s The Don?”
You avert your gaze. “I haven’t seen ‘im.”
“Boo.” He tied the laces together. “Some girlfriend you are,” he ribs.
You go red. “Not my boyfriend. Not even friends with benefits.”
“Yeah, sure.” He sets the skates into his bag. “That’s why you already know his family.”
“That—”
“And why you’ve had him over to your place.”
“If you don’t cool your tits, I’m telling Lucy you’re crushing on her friend.”
“Don’t you dare!”
“What,” you simper, “think I won’t?”
He grabs his bag. “If you do, I’ll show her that video.”
You laugh, following him out of the rink. “You’re the worst.” You note how strange it is that he spent so little time on the ice as you two walk out, but you do not say anything about it.
“Hey, you’re the one throwing threats around.”
“Yeah,” you argue, “but my threat is clearly better.”
He rolls his eyes, pushing you again.
You two keep chatting on the way to the theatre about anything and everything, from new bands to upcoming games to the newest blockbuster horror movies. You are not personally on the hockey team, but, as his friend, it is your duty to care. Besides, you figure, it gives you something to look forward to.
The movie is fine. You convince him against sneaking an entire pizza in, you split a bucket of popcorn, and you give him shit for getting freaked out by the disembowelment scene. It is payback for him teasing you about crying during the last movie you two went to a couple of days ago.
You two stand at the streetlight.
“Dude, it’s like eight,” he groans. “It’s not even late.”
“True,” you agree. “Counterpoint: I still have another week’s worth of work to do by Friday on top of the homework I’ll have to do anyway, so unless you wanna help—”
“Forget I asked.” He pulls his hood up against the autumn wind. “Need me to walk you back?”
“Nah.” You shrug. “If someone mugs me, they’ll give me an excuse to not do my homework.”
“Murdered?
“I’m already halfway there.”
He grins. “See ya tomorrow, Y/N.”
“See ya, Jones.” You wave as he runs off.
The walk home is quiet and considerably easier than it was a couple of weeks ago. Seeing as you now get queasy whenever you get into a car, you have been limited to taking the subway and walking, which, among other things, has contributed positively to your physical strength. You know that you should probably at least try to take the bus or a cab around town to build your tolerance up, but the last time you tried, you had almost tripped and fallen from how shaky your legs were getting out. Oddly enough, you note as you go through the door, you do not have a considerably larger fear of heights than you did before, or of fire, but cars were tripping you up, even though you were the one that crashed it. You feel thankful that, at least, you do not think your fear is crippling. At least, you reason, you can still get into the car.
You lock the door behind you, debating whether you feel like adding to the collection of cuts you now possess— they are self-inflicted, but not intentionally so; you stubbornly refuse to acknowledge the fact that you physically cannot use your hands to cut things. You decide against it tonight, tossing your bag on the bed as you sprawl across it, admittedly exhausted. You allow yourself a couple of seconds with your eyes closed before you pull yourself up with a groan and get back to work.
A part of you wishes that you had the physical energy to stay out longer. You are always trying to find excuses not to sleep, and although the mountain of homework and readjusting your timelines for things you missed is certainly one way to keep yourself preoccupied, it is not exactly what you would consider fun. Then again, reliving your greatest traumas while you sleep is not exactly fun either.
You catch yourself peeling at the newly applied bandages on your fingers, fingernails catching under the crudely applied adhesives. Applying bandages properly requires more dexterity and patience than you currently possess, and you are hardly going to ask someone else for help with something as stupid as that. You have lasted this long without needing too much help. People can live by themselves. You will live, probably. Well? Not your concern.
‘I should eat something.’ Your eyes strain to focus on the piece of paper in front of you, your mind wandering aimlessly as you try to impress the actual importance of finishing this upon yourself, but you find that is an insurmountable feat.
You drop your bag off the side of the bed, reaching down and pulling your shoe off, leaning back into your pillows, the weight of the day practically immobilizing you. Fumbling hands switch the lamp off, bathing your room in momentary, blissful darkness before the gravity of your decision sets in.
“Alright, me,” you breathe to yourself. “What’s it gonna be today? My folks? Bradford? What’s his face? Hell,” you chuckle, “why not all three? I’m sadistic enough, I’m sure.”
You close your eyes. “Give me your worse,” you challenge as you slip into unconsciousness.
--
Two weeks.
He had kept his distance for about two weeks. It was not as if he did not care or was not morbidly curious what the crash had done to you—his glances through the curtains did not tell him much-- but, after some debate, he had figured you needed time to recuperate before you would want his company. Two weeks, he figured, would be enough time for you to get back on your feet or, at least, for you to start wanting company.
His excuse to see you had come in the form of his brother’s newfound prideful boasting. Feigning insult was as good an excuse as any to go see you; after all, he just so happened to be in the neighborhood anyway, and it was normal to pop in to see someone if you were already just a couple blocks down, right? Sneaking away was easy enough—they would not mind his absence—and he, after much prep work, knew exactly how and why he was going to say the things he would to get in your good favor. The plan, he knows, would have gone swimmingly.
His plans seem asinine when he hears you crying.
His brothers do not cry much. He does not, either; it was a habit that they had all thoroughly bullied themselves out of when they were much younger and, if they still did, he knew nothing of it. His master did not encourage this, per se, but talked, then, frequently about the importance of maintaining a more stoic disposition and not allowing emotions to cripple you in battle. Practically, Donatello was satisfied with that explanation, having not properly cried for more than a year now. To hear the sound again, especially coming from you, was novel.
Novel, too, is how you are crying. The sound is less of actual sobbing and more of you being strangled, quiet gasps for air escaping your lips as you shake on the bed, curled in on yourself and clutching at your chest as if whatever pain you are experiencing is centered and can be relieved by something between your collarbones. His eyes, for the first time, trace the lines on your skin, your sleeves riding up your arms to reveal them to him, tears racing down and along the gash in your face. Everything about the scene, from the soft gasping of panic to your position to the heavy scarring, is completely foreign to him, rivaled only by one or two particularly hard nights when he and his brother were much younger.
He slides in through the window, leaning onto the bed. His fingers flick your lamp back on as he grabs your shivering shoulder tightly, shaking you awake as he mumbles words of encouragement. He is not sure if his help will be appreciated, if snapping you out of it was even what he is supposed to do in this situation, but now is not the time to think of that. You are in pain. He can offer you this kindness. “Wake up,” he pleads, not thinking of how this would look until your eyes snap open to look at him.
Immediately, the reality of the situation sets in, and he scrambles off the bed. ‘Why did I think that would be a good idea?’ Panic. ‘You just walked into her room like a fucking creep. See, now she’s going to—’
“Sorry.”
He blinks, looking up at you from his place on the floor. “Huh?”
You clear your throat, wiping the tears from your eye with your sleeve quickly as you bring your knees to your chest, voice hoarse. “Sorry,” you repeat. “That you… I’m not sure what I’m apologizing for, but I know I should be apologizing.”
He is completely dumbfounded.
Your eyes glance to the open window. “I should probably start closing and locking my window, right?” You rub the back of your neck, voice clearing the longer you talk. “It didn’t occur to me since I’m so high up, but if you guys can get in, The Foot can too, right?”
‘Why is she apologizing?’
You push the hair out of your face. ‘You need something, right? I—uh—need to stop saying ‘right’ so much.” You shake your head to clear it. “’ Sup?”
He hears himself mumble some bullshit out about being in the neighborhood.
You sigh. “Sorry.” You close your eyes. “I’m usually up later; I’ve been so tired lately.”
‘Is she serious right now?’ He is completely lost. ‘She was just crying her eyes out in her sleep and now she’s apologizing? Did I miss something?’ You are smiling now, eyes still bloodshot, as if the whole thing is a figment of his imagination, still shivering where you sit.
He rises to his feet, kneeling in front of you on the bed. “What was it about?”
You blink, seemingly confused. “Huh?”
“Your nightmare,” he clarifies. “You were crying. What was it about?”
You avert eye contact. “Nothing too crazy,” you shrug. “Just about the crash. Nothing too exciting.” If possible, he thinks the bags under your eyes are worse than the last time you saw him.
He takes your hands loosely, turning them palms up to look, for the first time, at the patchwork quilt that is now your skin. “What happened in it?” He runs his thumb along the lines, keeping his voice low; he remembers how that used to help when Mikey used to have fits when they were younger. Leonardo and Raphael were never good at that; they took better to being more violently snapped out of their moods, but, then again, they never had this kind of breakdown; theirs were always more driven by loathing, self or otherwise.
You pause, still not looking him in the face as your muscles relax. He remembers, vividly, how he had done something similar when you two had first met, how much better, health-wise, you looked. ‘How long has it been since then? Three months? A little less?’
You take a deep breath. “Just… family shit,” you mumble, eyelids drooping as you trace his frame loosely. “Fire.”
Your gaze is piercing as you finally look at him properly. He feels something catch in his throat as you bow your head.
“It’s my fault, you know.” Your voice is so soft, barely a whisper. “That they’re dead, I mean.”
The air is a suffocating blanket that smothers you both.
“I never told you, did I?” Your focus does not shift as it might have a bit ago. It is locked solely and intensely on him, taking in every detail of his expression. “How I died? How they died? Why I died?”
Hesitantly, he shakes his head. He thinks it best to just be quiet and let you talk. He does not think he has ever heard anyone speak in quite the same tones, ever looked at him quite the same way you are.
You take another breath. “I wanted to try my hand at baking.” You force your eyes to stay focused on his. “I was—still am—not good about sleep. I always slept bad, and never at the right times. I used to take pills for it, to try to get myself back on track.”
He sees where this is going.
“I thought I could still stay up as late as I was used to.” You glance to the side, stealing yourself a second before focusing back on the boy in front of you. “I sat down in my room, turned on a movie. I set a timer. I fell asleep.” You swallow, hands shaking in his. “I can’t smell well, either. I must not have smelled the burning.” Your lips curl in a bitter smile. “Sure as fuck felt it, though, when I woke up.”
He lets you finish.
You try to blink the tears out of your eyes. “They were asleep,” Your voice rises ever so slightly. “I fell asleep at two something. I woke up when they started yelling.” You purse your lips, face reddening in shame as your nostrils flair. “They were trying to get someone out of bed when the roof caved in above them. My door got blocked.”
You feel yourself smile.
“So,” you strain not to cry, “that, Donatello, is why I’m here and why I’m dead, and why I really do deserve to burn again.” You laugh. “Hell, my body count is rivaling some serial killers, so that’s… that’s certainly something.”
He lets go of your hands, face blank.
You lean forward, placing your hands on your knees. “I don’t blame you,” You wipe a wayward tear out of your eyes, trying to swallow the frog in your throat. “Fuck, man, I’d think less of me, too, if it were me.” You nod towards the window. “I get it if you want to leave, but I thought you might want to know why—”
He stops you mid-sentence, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you to him.
Your arms lay slack at your sides as you try to process what is happening.
He does not say a word.
You break.
You burry your face into him, tears welling in your eyes as you let out a strangled sob. You hold onto him tightly as you struggle to breathe, body shaking as you wrap your own arms around him the best you can. The sound roars in your ears like thunder, the deafening quiet of the apartment punctuated only by your own cries. He gently holds you there, resting his head on top of yours. Each sound you make sounds as though you are physically being choked by your guilt, and his chest feels as though it is being crushed by an invisible hand as he listens to your pain.
Neither of you knows how long you stay like that.
He considers telling you a story from a long time ago, about some training he and his brothers had back then, but thought better of it; he does not want to upset you any more than you already are, and being in good company with someone like him may not be exactly what you need right now. Granted, he does not know what you do need, but he knows listening to him talk about bashing brains would not help your sensibilities any.
Instead, he stays quiet.
You pull away after a while, wiping your face off again as you mumble out an apology.
“Don’t apologize.” He clears his throat. “It’s good to cry; it releases endorphins.”
You smile at that. “Well,” you giggle tearfully, “if it releases endorphins.”
He smiles back, face flushing. You look good, he thinks, even with your face all red. He knows that, scientifically, there is probably a reason, but he cannot think of it right now.
He stands up. “I’ll get—”
You grab his hand tightly.
He looks back at you.
“Can I ask a favor?”
He blinks. “Of course,” he agrees easily. “Anything.”
You glance off. “Promise not to take it weird?”
He feels his heart rate increase. “Y-yeah,” he nods.
He feels you pull him gently back on the bed. “Can you stay here tonight?”
His eyes widen as they flicker between the mattress and you. “What,” he clarifies breathlessly, “like sleep with you?”
You nod.
“In the same bed?”
You hesitate, nod again.
He clears his throat, face heating again. “Like, actually?”
“If it wasn’t actually, I wouldn’t ask, would I?” You grip his hand tightly. “I just really don’t want to be alone tonight.”
‘Oh.’ He mentally kicks himself. ‘She’s scared. Don’t make her uncomfortable.’
“It’s alright if you don’t—”
He is extremely quick to reassure you that he is more than happy—‘Bad choice of wording.’—to stay tonight until you fall asleep, but that he would not stay the whole night as to not worry his brothers.
You nod in agreement. “That’s fine.” You rub the back of your neck. “Not sure I would be good company when I wake up, anyway; I still have class.”
“Oh, right.” He nods in understanding, pushing himself further onto the bed. “Which side…?”
You shrug. “Which way do you face?”
“I usually lie on my stomach.”
“Then it doesn’t matter.” You slide your sweatshirt over your head after a bit of squirming around, tossing it onto the couch.
His face is now scarlet. “Okay then,” he mumbles, laying down on the side away from the window. ‘Is she going to—no, stop that.’
You look over at him, face down on the mattress. You can almost feel the heat coming off him. “Are you alright there, buddy?”
He nods.
You shrug, laying down under the blanket and curling into him, facing the window. “Mind getting the light?”
He reaches over, clicking it off.
You sigh in content, turning to face him, teetering on the edge of the mattress. “I’m not venomous,” you inform him teasingly. “I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: of the two of us, you should not be the one who’s a nervous wreck.”
“You dunno that.” His voice is muffled by the bed.
“You’re the strong one,” you argue.
“So?” He turns his head to look at you. “I’m the guy laying in the—I’m just gonna stop that sentence.”
“It’s only bad if it isn’t consensual.” You smile reassuringly. “I invited you to lay with me, right? So, unless I make you uneasy, then we’re all good.”
He breaks eye contact. “So,” he clarifies, “you don’t mind if I move closer to you?”
You shake your head.
He hesitantly slides himself further onto the bed. “Can I move closer than this?”
“You’ve already seen me bawl my eyes out. You’re doing me a service. Move as close or as far as you want.”
He moves to press his side against you. “Is this fine?”
You nod. “Look, how about this?” You rest your arm under your head. “If you do something I’m uncomfortable with, the safe word is pina colada.”
‘We already have a safe word?’ He was not sure if he is on cloud nine or just terrified of you.
You are very confused why he looks so warm. “Do you need me to turn the AC on?”
He shakes his head. “I’m good,” he assures you tightly. Slowly, he reached an arm out and over your waist, pulling you closer. You do not seem to resist in any way, wrapping your good leg around one of his to pull him closer.
‘Conscious touching.’ He glances down at you, trying to act cool. ‘Conscious, intentional touching. She smells so nice and she feels—okay, this is not going to work if you keep being a perv.’
“Thanks,” you mumble, humming softly. “I appreciate this more than you know.”
Cloud nine. Definitely on cloud nine.
“Every time.”
You giggle.
He blinks. “What?”
“Every time,” you note, already nodding off. “Like in that book.”
‘Which one?’ “They wrote it down for a reason, right?” The longer he spends like this, the smoother he feels.
“Totally.” You smile, closing your eyes. “Just know that this goes both ways, alright? If you ever need help like this, you know who to call.”
This is new. ‘Help like this? What, like crying?’ His eyebrows furrow as he tries to understand what you mean. ‘Or he means if I ever need company in my—what did I just say?’
You pick up on his confusion. “Emotional help, I mean.” Your fingers trace the indentations in his shell absentmindedly. “I mean, I know sometimes I didn’t want to go to my family about stuff. I dunno if you have that…” you trail off, realizing that you might be unintentionally bashing his brothers. You sincerely do not want to blow this.
“I mean,” he says after a bit, “I think I get what you’re talking about.” He sighs. “You mean stuff that they’d make fun of me for, right?”
You nod.
He feels his heart melt a little. “I’ll have to take you up on that.”
You forgot how safe he makes you feel. “Goodnight, Donnie,” you mumble sleepily.
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
You pass out not long after that. If he has to estimate a general amount of time, he will clock it in at about five minutes. He does not move, however, until about thirty minutes before sunrise, too busy listening to the sound of your breathing and memorizing how exactly your body feels next to his. As he slips out of the window, early morning air waking him back up completely, he wonders if, someday, he could stay to see you wake up next to him. Not out of necessity, but just because you both wanted to stay like that for a while more.
‘I hope so. It’s a nice dream to have, anyhow.’

IVY P6 Cosy
TV SHOW THE QUEENS GAMBIT COUPLE: BENNY X READER RATING: SWEET AF!
I had grown rather used to having my little audience. Y/n came over almost everyday for at least an hour just to sit and watch me play chess making all her little notes and working on ivy as she slowly brought her equipment over every time she visited so I know had half a computer in my living room. But today honestly I wasn't expecting her there was a horrible storm over new york.
The subway has been down for days, no taxis working, barely a car could get thought, my poor little beatle is burried under the snow, my apartment as cold as ice as the heating was now working but not working all that well, at least I had hot water now, the windows blocked completely by snow and where one slightly leaks it has frozen shut with icicles on the inside as the water leaking in had frozen on the way in, I could hear the wind rushing through, the news reports I was getting on my tiny tv weren't good so I turned it off trying not to think about the cold.
I had two pairs of socks on, fluffy socks. My jeans on with a blanket over my legs, my black t shirt, then my black turtleneck shirt, then my green button down then my jacket and I still had to wrap a blanket around my shoulders to stop me shivering. I jumped as I heard the phone I begrudgingly got up from my chair and went to answer it trying not to loose a blanket on the way I picked it up trying not to shiver in my voice
"Hello?"
"Hi Benny" I heard her familiar voice but she had called me before from her dorm but it sounded different
"Hey y/n, what's up?"
"Quick question do you have heating?"
"Well yes. It's not very good but yes. Why?"
"Uhhh could you maybe put it on full. And also put the kettle on"
".... Ohh my god you crazy girl are you actually coming?'
"Yes"
"I thought we'd work from your from today on the phones and all"
"I was going too but most everyone else has gone home for the holidays and the dorms are so so cold."
"Where are you?"
"Uhh the payphone about a block down the street from yours"
"You're walking! Y/n you must be frozen half to death get off the phone get here as quick as you can I'll get the kettle on" I told her quickly hanging up I didn't want her on the phone any longer then she had to be I got up going to the kitchen to put the kettle on hell I'll have a hot drink as I'n turning it on and soon enough I heard fast shaking little taps, I rushed over and quickly pulled the door open having to fight against the ice around it but I got it open and she stood there on my doorstep covered in an inch of snow shivering in her usual purple coat "oohh get in here you silly girl you'll freeze" I laughed quickly letting her in and shutting the door behind us to keep the cold out
"Benny I can't feel my toes"
"I imagine you can't. Those boots don't look like snow boots?"
"There not I didn't have snow boots so I just put my thermal boots and some extra socks"
"Here let me get your coat off" I smiled helping her with her coat knocking all the snow off her revealing how cute she looked she had a little purple hat under her hood, and a long purple scarf wrapped around her about four times and had a long knee length knitted purple dress with pockets, she had little black mittens and what looked like four or five layers of thermal tights and these little boots I helped her get her boots off as somehow she had gotten snow inside her boots and she had three pairs of socks on top of her tights she slipped her mittens off and her scarf sitting them with her coat
"May I steal a blanket?" She asks noticing I had two
"You may" I laughed giving her one of my blankets
"You wanna mini hot water bottle?" She smiled pulling a pocket sized hot water bottle out of her pocket I took it curiously and it was hot I held it close feeling how warm it was
"Uuummm I will sell you my car for this tiny hand sized hot water bottle"
"It's okay Benny you can borrow it while I'm borrowing your blanket" she smiled we went over to the sofa having a sit together trying not to be too far apart as we where both warm, I feched her a tea and a I had my usual coffee "clink" she giggled tapping my mug with her own
"Clink" I laughed "fuck it's cold. Sorry I made you walk all this way"
"It's okay I wanted to come"
"I'm really not in the mood for chess today. Which sounds nuts but I'm just way too cold. Sorry for making you walk all this way for nothing"
"Not nothing, I got to see you" she smiled "and steal your blanket"
"I guess so. Guess it's kinda nice to have someone to wait out the storm with"
"Yeah someone to wait the storm out with" she smiled "why don't you get the duvet?"
"The duvet!" I jumped dashing to my bedroom and getting my duvet we both readjusted our blankets and then I threw the duvet over us both I smiled looking at her wrapped up so well against the sofa with the blanket around her shoulders and my duvet tucked up to her sipping the tea that she held so close "I like your scarf. And your little hat"
"Aww thank you" she blushed "I knitted them myself"
"You did? that's impressive. Can you make me a scarf?"
"Yeah, actually. I did bring my stuff with me" she laughed grabbing her bag getting some large needles "I have… black and white wool?"
"Can you make me a chess scarf?"
"Uhhh I don't see why not" she smiled sitting her tea on the side
"I'm going to get a book, want anything as I'm leaving the warm corner?"
"No thanks benny, Im cosy" she smiled
"Alright" I smiled back giving her temple a little kiss before leaving the duvet I already hated it I'm so cold out here, I grabbed a book or three before I remembered I jumped in my wardrobe and I saw it "ohh my god! I forgot about you!"
"About what?" Y/n giggled
"My long hot water bottle" I laughed showing her the thing i bought it years ago before going to Moscow on the assumption moscow would be cold and I ended up leaving it here it took a while to fill up as it was almost a meter long but I did it up and put the fluffy cover over it and came back beside her getting under the duvet and in the blankets laying the bottle across both our laps between the duvet and us I smiled as I sat getting cosy watching her slowly knit
"Why was your dorm so cold?' I asked her
"Most of them have gone home for the holidays, cheap place only keeps the heat on if more then two people are there and it was just me" she says "I tried to get on the bus to come see you but I had to walk"
"Why didn't you go home? For the holidays?"
"Not really much if a home to go to?"
"What do you mean?"
"My mother died in childbirth. My dad looked after me alone for most of my life. He passed away a few years ago now." She explained
"Ohh y/n. I'm so sorry, his did he die?"
She smiled slightly "he was working at nasa. In the space race and all, he was an engineer so they sent him onna test flight but… they never came back" she explained
"Must have been an amazingly smart man. I see where you get it from"
"Thank you, what about you? Why aren't you flying off somewhere to see your family?"
"Don't really have a family. Never really did. My dad died before I was even born, my mum like yours died in childbirth so my uncle took care of me he was a single guy no kids or anything but he had a heart attack when I was ten, been on my own since"
"I'm so sorry Benny"
"Its okay. Life goes on you know. Of course I miss them but… me sitting here bawling isn't gonna bring them back, lifes going to go on weather I sit here crying or weather I get on with it. So I better just get on with it"
"Yeah I see what you mean" she says "how about we play a game" she smiled
"Sure" I laughed
"Truth or dare"
"Damn it okay truth"
"Do you really love chess?'
"Not as much as I did once. I do really love chess but there is bullshit too it, the traveling sucks, there's alot of snobbery around it, I think I adored it once but… I still love it just not as much as I did" I explain "truth or dare?"
"Truth"
"... Do you really think ivy will work?'
"I'm sure of it. I know it. More then anything else in this world" she smiled "your turn"
"Okay truth again"
"What's the last thing you cried at?"
"Cried? Uhhh ohh god ugh lord of the rings"
"What?'
'the ending makes me cry okay"
"Awww that's so sweet. Yeah I cried when I read it too"
"I think everyone does. If you don't cry your kinda a dick" I laughed "your turn"
"Uhhh dare"
"Oooohhh uuuuuuughhh…. I dare you to," I began before I spotted an empty note pad so I grabbed the page and crumpled it up "eat a page"
"Why?"
"Because I dared you"
"Fine" she sighed taking it ripping it up small and slowly swallowing it "oww. That was mean"
"To be fair I really didn't have a dare set. Uuhh and I pick truth"
"You have to pick dare at some point Benny"
'ill pick dare next turn"
"Fine." She smiled "... Did you love beth?"
"What? How do you know about me and beth?"
"It's not a secret. I read about it in chess review"
"No. Honestly I don't know how I feel about beth. I don't think I love her. She's ignoring me at the moment anyway, I don't know. No. I think. I care about her but I get the feeling she doesn't care about me all that much"
"You shouldn't be with someone who doesn't care about you benny. Your better then that your worth so much more then that. You deserve a girl who adores you."
"Aww thanks y/n" I smiled "your turn"
".. truth"
"Do you…. Have a crush on someone?"
"What is this Benny a girl's sleepover?'
'come on I'm curious?"
"No"
"No you don't or no you don't wanna answer the question?"
"The second one"
"If you don't wanna answer it means you do"
"I never said that"
"Who is he? Some boy in your science class? Some cute boy who lives in your dorm?"
"No" she giggled "your turn"
"No you never answered my question"
"I do but I'm not telling you"
"Why not?" I laughed but I saw how red she was "y/n… do you"
"It's not your turn to ask questions Benny" she says hurrying her head in her knitting
"Fine. Dare"
"I dare you. To… not ask anymore questions"
"Why not?"
"That's a question"
"No, that's not how the game works. A proper dare"
"Fine I dare you go up there an stick your dick in the snow"
"Ahhhhh nooooo I don't wanna do that"
"I didn't wanna eat paper"
"NOOOO"
"Go or no questions"
"Fine" I sighed getting up already too cold without the duvet around me maybe I can just go up and climb I did it but she put her knitting down and got up too wrapping her scarf around her and getting her gloves and hat on as well as her coat keeping her hood down this time as she slipped on her boots I put some shoes on and begrudgingly unlocked my door the snow was now building up badly down my stairs so much it was up to my knees each time I took a step y/n using my holes in the snow to walk through till we got to the street it really was a blizzard I could barely see anything, my car burried the lights not even working on that streets
"Go on" she says
"No looking" I warn her undoing my jeans she looked away already turning red my whole brain screaming at me every self preservation element in my brain going nuts why am I getting my dick out in a Blizzard! I did it and by God I had never been colder in my life I of course screamed making her giggle like crazy I quickly did my jeans up in an attempted to get warm again shw tried to run inside from the cold but I grabbed her "ohh no you don't if I had to go in the snow your going in too!" I told her pushing her in the snow
"Ahhhhh!! Benny" she squealed "this. Means. War" she glared grabbing some snow and throwing it at me luckily she missed
"Ha you-" I began but she got another and got me right in the face before I even finished "fine. You wanna play this game. Fine let's play"
"No no no! You can't hit a girl Benny" she giggled
"Ohh no you threw first that rule Is irrelevant" I told her grabbing some snow and throwing it at her and it managed to get her just as she was getting up right on the butt
"AAAHHH! Benny! That went up my dress!" She screamed before she ran at me with a handful of snow and shoved it down the back of my jeans
"Ahhhhh! Y/n!" I complained grabbing as much as I could and filling her hood with it throwing it over her
"Ahhhhh!" She screamed pushing me into the snow so I pulled her down with me and we ended up with her on top of me on the snow "hi"
"Hi, you wanna go back in before we freeze to death?"
"Yes please" she nods happily getting up and helping me up out the snow too we hurried down and locked the apartment up hangout stuff by the door and getting cosy back on the sofa trying to warm up again
"So… I did my dare."
"Yep"
"So, it's your turn"
"Truth" she rolled her eyes as she began to knit again
"Do you have a crush…. On me?"
"Maybe"
"Maybe?"
"Maybe" she blushed
"No come on yes or no answer?"
"Yes" she blushed "I just… I saw you in the tournament a few years back and I just, I kinda did and when we met I couldn't help it"
"That's really sweet" I smiled giving her head a kiss "uhh y/n"
"Yes Benny?"
"The snows got no sign of stopping and I really don't want you walking back to your freezing cold dorm"
"What are you saying?'
"I'm saying. I think you should stay here tonight. Are how the snow looks in the morning."
"Where will I sleep?"
" I'll make the airbed up for you if you want, or… you can come cosy in my bed with me so we keep warm"
"I'd like that Benny" she smiled shuffling closer and resting her head in my chest I smiled wrapping an arm around her
"Y/n?"
"Yes Benny?"
"... I kinda had a crush on you too"

Sports, Crushes, College and All Other Things Stressful (Nora x Black Female Reader)
AU where Nora is a stressed out college student and you are a simple black girl who has no time management.
Nora felt like she was a simple person.
She grew up in a small town near Salt Lake City, made it through the akward teenage phase, and graduated high school with honors.
Does it matter that she was always so close to pulling her own hair out in frustration? She doesn’t think so.
She liked to think that her high school years went swell.
She was captain of the swim team, played in both tennis, chess, soccer, and volleyball. She was also co captain of the debate team, won the Reading Bowl in TOME for three years in a row (she didn’t join freshman year) and did a bunch of community service at the homeless shelter every other Saturday from 9am to 3pm.
Yeah, Nora was a simple person, she thinks.
Does it matter that she barely had time to sleep? She doesn’t think so.
She got into college with a full ride scholarship (which her family celebrated for two days straight. It practically turned into a block party.) She was on the Pre-Med track, wanting to become a pediatrician like her grandmother had been, and like her mother had been, and like her older sister had been as well.
Wait…who exactly was she doing this fo–
Doesn’t matter!
She got to get an apartment on the campus housing first year with her best friend, Abby, who’s a biology major of all things, when Nora was pretty sure she was gonna be an English major. Her room was pretty average, but Abby often made comments about how it really needed some personality.
“You don’t even have a poster!” Abby remarked one day while she was laying on Nora’s bed. She had an old copy of Lord of the Flies in her hands, read and re-read about eight times.
“Not everyone needs a poster, Abby.”
“Yeah, they do. Especially when you don’t have a book or a video game, or even something to play music on-”
“Isn’t it enough that I have a phone?” Nora placed her head on Abby’s lap. Abby rolled her eyes and sat up on the bed so Nora would be more comfortable.
“And you had to beg your mother for it. Now hush and let me finish this chapter.” She leaned against the headboard and made a comment about how she was going to buy her a poster for Dirty Dancing or something.
Now that freshman year was almost over, and tennis season for the school had started up again a month prior, Nora, being captain of that and many other teams, was starting to feel even more stressed. She has to aid the coach in training the less athletic recruits, plan their next meeting, and prepare for their next game which was in two weeks, which was a few days before a big biochemistry test.
She was out by the track, the slightly warm early April air hitting the side of her sweaty face after almost an hour of staying out in the sun. There was another hour of practice left, and with a clipboard, a pen, and a timer in her hand, she watched the baby-faced girls run laps around the field.
“Ok, the game is on a Saturday, it takes around 30 minutes to get there by bus, so 30 minutes to get back… but the game ends at 6:30 so I have to give at least another 30 minutes to an hour for traffic, not including the time it takes to shower and pack our stuff up so the latest I’d get home is around…” She looked up from her clipboard, tapping her feet on the floor. “Jackson! If you want to play in the next game you gotta beat your record! Pick up the speed!” She called out to a red haired girl.
God, I really hope I’m not sweating out my hair, she thought, brushing a few stray hairs back in her ponytail. Nora went back to muttering.
“Ok so that means I’ll be home by 8 at the latest, and if I lock myself in my room and pull an all nighter, I could probably get all my studying done by 6-ish? Maybe… I would have to stock up on coffee. I’ll stop by the store on the way ho–”
Nora’s quiet rambling was interrupted by a voice.
“Hey, Captain!” Nora didn’t turn around, already knowing who it was by the voice alone.
(Y/n) (L/n).
Ah, Nora’s feelings for you were…complicated, to say the least. But we’ll get to that later.
“Sorry I’m so late.” You rubbed the back of your neck with a sheepish smile.
“Fourth time this month, (Y/n).” Nora’s voice was stern, exasperated and a bit annoyed.
“I know. I know, but–”
“You know the drill. 10 extra laps and you have to beat your record or else you don’t play in the next game. Go.” Nora didn’t look up from her clipboard, but knew you were pouting anyways.
Your footsteps echoed in Nora’s ears as you ran to the field, smiling at your teammates as they passed you. She marked off your name on her clipboard and wrote “Late” next to it, again, with furrowed eyebrows and annoyance tickling the back of her brain.
When 4 o’clock came, the girls all filed out of the field and towards the locker room, feet tired and sore. You were still running, of course, doing the 10 (plus 10 extra) laps you were assigned. Although you weren’t, Nora felt like you were taking your time, acting as if you hadn’t a care in the world.
“God, I have to get home and study…” Nora whispered and rolled her eyes, even though only 5 minutes had passed. By 4:15, you were done, walking back to her while rubbing your left thigh.
“How’d I do, Captain?” You asked while wiping the sweat off of your forehead. You balanced yourself on the balls of your feet. Nora clicked the button on her timer once again and finally looked at you.
You had sweat stains on your blue shirt, and you picked at the edge of your shorts that rode up your thigh just a little bit.
“Two minutes under your last time. I guess you get to stay in this time around.” Nora said curtly, pursing her lips while doing so.
You smiled as if you already knew the answer. “Aw come on, Captain. Have a little faith in me, yeah? I’m not all bad.” Your nose scrunched you as you pouted.
God your lips were so cu–
“But I do stink though. Imma hit the showers real quick. You coming?” Nora gulped, mind going a little to the left as she snapped out of her thoughts.
“Yeah.” Was all Nora could say in response.
They walked into the locker rooms, all of the girls clean and gone. Nora placed her things on one of the benches, opening and looking into her locker for clean clothes. You did the same.
“Jeez, all that time I put into doing my hair only to sweat it out in less than 10 minutes. I don’t know how you do it, Captain.” You remarked, looking in the mirror of your locker. Nora hummed, but didn’t respond. She grabbed some fresh clothes from her gym bag and started stripping.
Nora peeked into the mirror in her locker at you. Yours was diagonal from hers. You were still looking at yourself, not at her. Part of her wanted you to be.
Once she was done, she wrapped a towel around herself and grabbed some soap and a rag. She showered in silence, only being interrupted by the pat pat of your footsteps on the floor as you hopped in the showers next to her. You tied your hair up and put a bandana around your head before starting the shower, and Nora looked away before she could see anything else.
She thanked whatever god there was that there was a wall between you two.
But what if there wasn’t?
Nora started to feel very self-conscious all of a sudden. She started to take note of the stretch marks and too thick hairs on her stomach and arms and legs.
Oh my god, is my hair presentable?
She went to smooth out her hair with a (thankfully) not soapy hand, but stopped herself. She wouldn’t want to ruin her hair now. She spent all morning getting it together.
Wait? Why am I worrying about my appearance? My body is fine.
After her little realization, Nora started scrubbing really hard at her arms and legs, preoccupying her mind with the upcoming test.
Nora finished before you did, wrapping a towel around herself and waiting until she was out of your sight to start drying herself. She put on some lotion and deodorant, got dressed in a pair of grey sweatpants and a green shirt and sneakers before grabbing her stuff and going to leave.
“Captain!” Your voice stopped her.
Dammit! She was almost free!
“Yeah?” Nora took a few steps back but didn’t look in your direction.
“Can you…um…stay?” Nora’s spit got caught in her throat. “I mean, until I’m done. I really don’t like being in the locker room by myself. My mom always told me don’t let myself be in a room alone.” You let out a laugh, albeit a bit nervous.
Nora nodded, spitting out a stuttered, “Sure.” She hopes she didn’t sound too excited. She leaned against the outside wall of the showers, facing away from you once more. Nora waited (im)patiently, suddenly remembering how she forgot her glasses at home and that’s why she hasn’t been able to see well all day. She also remembered the stain on the coffee table that she was too busy to clean up because she was rushing out of the house because she had slept through her–
The squeak of the shower faucet snapped Nora out of her thoughts as the rush of water stopped. Nora kept her eyes on her shoes as you passed her, suddenly very interested in the speck of dirt on the toe of her left shoe.
I should clean it later, Nora thought.
“Captain?” Nora’s head snapped up, looking towards you with large brown eyes. You brought a plump lip into your mouth before giving Nora a smile. You were done getting dressed, snatching the now-wet bandana off of your head.
God, is it hot in here? Nora feels like she’s been sweating oceans.
“Thank you for staying. I’m sorry if I bothered you.”
“No problem.” It’s not like she doesn’t have a test she has to study for or a meeting at 6 for a club that she really couldn’t remember the name of now which was really concerning, but Nora couldn’t bring herself to care because you were smiling at her and Nora’s heart was not working anymore.
Although part of her wanted to be mad at such a carefree attitude and your seemingly lack of schedule, she settled on scolding you instead.
“Practice is next Monday at 3. Try not to be late next time.” You nodded before grabbing your stuff from the bench behind you and walking out of the locker room in silence. Nora followed before you both split off in different directions.
Nora’s weekend was filled with nothing but meetings and studying and homework, with the constant repetition of “Game on a Saturday, test on a Monday” leaving her mouth. She started her mornings at 4 am, going for a 2 hour run around campus. At 6 she went back home and took a shower, answered a bunch of emails about things that Nora couldn’t bring herself to care about anymore, and then she spent a good 3 hours studying old material from her classes, read a book she was assigned for Lit, then she was back studying again.
Wait, did she eat anything?
She wouldn’t have if Abby hadn’t practically shoved a piece of turkey bacon down her throat because, “You literally haven’t eaten since yesterday afternoon” which she should be grateful for her friend’s willingness to remember the important things for her when she forgot them. She had meetings for Spanish and French Honor Society, Creative Writing, the school’s green club, and she also had to tutor a bunch of kids who were failing their math classes.
And to top it all off, you were late to practice, again! God, Nora wanted to be mad at you. You were being selfish at this point. Didn’t you know that if you were late she had to stay with you until practice was over?
Well, technically, she didn’t. She could leave practice whenever she wants to but honestly she didn’t want to leave you to practice alone. Plus, you might slack off!
Nora’s eyebrows twitched at the thought. It’s like you didn’t have a care in the world! You just walked around wasting her time, your time even!
You arrived 15 minutes late, better than last time, but still late.
You were already preparing your excuses, but Nora shushed you, telling you to go and practice on your serves. You did just that. Nora had already completed her drills, now just waiting for you to show up. She wrote your name down and the word “late” next to it once again before she went back to observing her team.
Once 4 o’clock rolled around, the girls rolled out and into the locker rooms, while you stayed behind. Your serve was good, Nora thought, you were just a heavy hitter and would forget to try and get the ball into the court first.
After watching the ball fly past the court for the 3rd time, Nora sighed and made her way over to you. You spotted her and gave her a smile.
“Hey, Captain! You need something?” You asked as you threw the ball in the air. You hit it across the net and watched as it flew straight into the wall. You grabbed another ball from the basket next to you and went to do it again until Nora gently grabbed your wrist and pulled it back down.
“You hit too hard, (Y/n). Try it again, but with a little less force.” Nora stated, backing out of the court to watch you once more.
You tried again, only for the ball to land just outside of the court.
“That’s ok, (Y/n), just try again.” Nora encouraged you. You tried again and again, only for you to keep hitting it out of the court.
You let out a huff, frustrated. “Captain…” You whined, turning to her with dragged feet. “This seems pointless. I just keep hitting out of bounds.” Nora raised a brow, not taking you for the type to give up so easily.
“You know we can’t leave until you get it right.” You pouted at her answer before going to try again. Nora stopped you, walking up to you and grabbing the hand you were holding your racket in. “Here. Make your hand face the net. That always helped me serve better.” Nora turned your wrist. “Now plant your feet so they’re in line with your shoulders.” You listened. “Now breathe in, slowly, and as you breathe in, toss the ball into the air and as soon as you exhale, swing. Don’t focus on the force. Focus on how your hand moves to hit the ball.” Nora realized how close she was to you, how weird this must’ve looked to others and what they might think.
She was starting to get self-conscious again.
Nora cleared her throat and backed out of the court again. Once she was far enough, you served again, the ball just making it into the court. You jumped up in excitement, coily hair bouncing with you. Your eyes darted towards her, a wide smile on your brown face.
“Captain! Captain I did it! Did you see?” You spoke with the giddiness of a child with a new toy, and, suddenly, Nora’s anger at you disappeared. Nora nodded with a smile.
“I saw. Good job, (Y/n).” You smiled wider at her praise, going to pick up all of the balls you managed to drop. Nora helped.
After cleaning up the mess you made, you both walked to the locker rooms. You repeated your routine from Friday, with Nora finishing earlier than you once again. Nora remembered how you had asked her to stay, and decided not to leave you behind. She walked to her locker in silence, getting dressed in some jeans, a graphic tee, and her same pair of sneakers she always wore before leaning against the walls of the showers like she did once before.
She was still facing away from you.
“(Y/n)?” Nora called, despite the lump in her throat about having to talk to you while you were naked.
“Yeah, Captain?” You answered, stopping the humming you were previously doing.
“May I ask, um, why are you always so…late?” Nora tapped her fingers on the wall and hoped she didn’t offend you with the question.
You were silent for a moment before answering. “I just lose track of time, y’know?” Nora’s eyebrow twitched again. You spoke as if you knew what she was thinking. “Yeah, yeah. I know that’s not a good excuse. However, I get so caught up in the little things that I just forget to remember the big things.” Another twitch of the eyebrow.
God, was it gonna get stuck like that?
You turned off the shower and wrapped a towel around yourself as Nora moved to sit on the bench. She preoccupied herself with her shoes again and waited for you to get dressed. The buzz of your phone interrupted the silence between you two. You grabbed it from out of your locker and looked at the bright screen before scowling and placing it back in your bag.
“I wanna know, Captain.” You started, as you put underwear on. Nora cursed the human evolutionary habit of looking at anyone and anything that made noise, as she had turned her gaze towards you as you were putting on a dress and oh my goodness you weren’t wearing a bra. Nora’s face burned as she quickly turned back around to look at her shoes. “Have you ever had Mr. Lance before?” It took a few seconds for Nora to register your question, and once she did, she shook her head no.
“U-Um… no. No I haven’t, um… Why do you ask?” Preoccupy yourself with the test, Nora. Focus on the test.
Game on a Saturday. Test on a Monday.
“I wanted to thank you for once again putting up with me and helping me in practice. Other captains would’ve just left me there.” Now she felt bad for thinking about leaving. “You wanna go?” You turned to her with another smile, not caring that Nora wasn’t even facing you.
“You don’t have to. It’s really no problem.”
Game on a Saturday. Test on a Monday.
“Come on, Captain. Please. I promise you it’ll be worth your time!” Nora finally gained the courage to look at you, and you were pouting. Good god you were pouting and it was so adorable and Nora really has to learn how to focus again.
Game on Saturday. Test on Monday.
Nora was in a trance. Your eyes had caught her in a trance and she couldn’t get out but she had to. So she agreed to your little adventure. You jumped up again in excitement and Nora was once again reminded of the fact that you don’t have on a bra. You both walked out of the locker room and you led Nora down the street to one of the coffee shops about 7 minutes away.
“Mr. Lance is just a few minutes from here.” You started as you put your phone in your bag after checking it again. “And I know the name seems kinda boring, however, they serve the best ice cream there is.” You gave Nora another beaming smile to reassure her, even though Nora didn’t need any reassurance.
Once you both arrived at the little parlor, you opened the door for Nora and she was immediately hit by the cool air and the smell of mint. Nora scrunched up her nose a little bit and sat at one of the red chaired booths. You sat opposite of her and folded your hands on top of each other.
“What do you usually get here?” Nora asked you, pushing her glasses up to her face.
“I either get the triple chocolate milkshake or the extra cookies and cream ice blizzard. But that’s my personal preference. Get whatever you want.” You said nonchalantly, not even looking at the menu.
Would it be too embarrassing for Nora to admit that she didn’t know how to choose? Nora thought that yes, it would be. However she couldn’t just not order something after you had brought her all the way here. That would be rude! But it would also be rude to sit there and order something she wouldn’t want and then sit there and pick at it because she had never really had time to–
“And what about you, miss?” Nora jumped at the voice. She looked up from her death match with the colorful menu and at the waiter who was standing there with a notepad in her pale hands.
“Uh…oh! Oh! I would like a…” What the hell was that first thing you said? “A triple chocolate milkshake, please.” Nora’s face burned at her awkwardness. Maybe she didn’t leave that weird teenage phase at all.
“Coming right up! I’ll just take these off your hands.” The waiter grabbed the menus and walked off to the kitchen.
Nora tried to act like she didn’t feel your gaze on her while you waited, and felt grateful when your phone buzzed for the third time that afternoon.
“Guess I’m popular today, huh Captain?” You let out a chuckle as you turned your phone off.
Nora smiled back and she hoped it wasn’t crooked.
You pulled at a curl on your head and frowned. “I’m so glad tomorrow is wash day. My hair’s been so uncooperative lately.” You pulled at the same curl again and watched as it bounced back into place. “Captain.” You called her. Nora answered. “What do you think I should do with my hair? Twists or plaits? Ooh maybe I can do box braids instead.” You shot out ideas to her, hoping she would choose and make your life a bit easier.
“Um… I think you’d look good in–in twists.” Frankly you would look good in anything.
Wait, what?
“Don’t you have to set out the whole day for that? You have classes tomorrow, don’t you?”
“I have one class in the afternoon but it shouldn’t be a problem. I can catch up easily.” You said nonchalantly.
She looked at the clock on the wall to check the time. 5:45 p.m. She cursed how fast this day was going.
Their treats came a few minutes later and you popped open your straw and dug in. Nora did the same, eyebrows raising at the onslaught of very, very sweet chocolate attacking her taste buds.
“See. I told you it was good!” You said, licking a little bit of chocolate off of your lips. You swirled your straw around your glass. “I’m glad you decided to come with me, though.” You said offhandedly.
“Why did you decide to bring me here?” Nora didn’t mean for her voice to sound all nervous. She would roll with the punches.
“Hmm. I already told you earlier that I wanted to thank you for putting up with me.” You took another sip and stuck your tongue out a bit. “But also, and forgive me if I seem rude but, I thought this would relax you.” Nora raised an eyebrow. “You always seem so…pent up. Like a stiff. I just noticed that you might need some sort of release or something, Captain. That’s all.” Nora realized that you were the only one to address her as Captain after practice, and in that moment she started to feel very…different.
Was she uncomfortable?
No, Nora wouldn’t exactly describe it as that.
It was just that the heat creeping up her neck and the sudden realization that you were right and the idea of getting some sort of release, as you put it, was making her feel very, very weird.
It didn’t help that Nora’s gaze went back to your lips and eyes and hands and chest and the realization that you weren’t wearing a bra hit her again and–
Why the hell was she so focused on that? Of all the damn things to focus on? It’s not like the concept of not wearing a bra was foreign to her, she did it from time to time herself but what the fuck was so different when you did it?
Focus on something else, Nora. Focus on something else.
Like the test!
She had a game on a Saturday, and a test on a Monday.
Game on a Saturday, and a test on a Monday.
Game on Saturday, and boy were your eyes cute.
Game on Saturday, test on a Monday.
It’s not like she had a problem with it.
Game on Saturday, test on Monday.
She was fine. Nora was so fine. Nothing to worry about here.
Maybe she did need a release. A time for herself to relax.
Game Saturday, test Monday.
Oh god was she staring at you?
Game, test. Saturday, Monday.
Were you smiling at her? You look so sweet.
Monday. Saturday. Monday. Game. Test. Relax. Release. Relax. Relax. Game. Test. Saturday. Monday. Relax. Release.
Her glass was empty and you were smiling at her and UGH.
Nora stood up, her knees knocking into the booth as she did so.
“Is everything alright, Captain?” You expressed concern over her. Your eyebrows furrowed as your smile went away.
“I gotta go.” Nora managed to choke out. She reached into her back pocket for her wallet as you stared at her with confusion.
“What? Are you sure?” Nora threw $20 on the table and grabbed her bag from the floor.
“Yeah. I gotta… I gotta go…” Nora turned and sped out of the shop, leaving you alone.
She made it back to her apartment and unlocked the door with shaky hands. Abby greeted her from the couch, hair in a low ponytail instead of its usual braid.
“Hey, Nora you–“ Abby stopped herself when she finally looked at her roommate. “What’s wrong?” She turned to her and grabbed her before Nora could sped past the couch. “Come on. Around the couch you go.” Abby pulled Nora by her belt loop around the couch and made her sit down. “What’s up with you. And don’t say you have another test to study for because you’ve already studied enough.” Nora scrunched up her nose and looked away from Abby.
“There’s no such thing as too much studying.”
“Nora…” Abby’s voice was stern.
“Fine, fine… There’s this… this girl and she… she said I was a stiff and treated me to ice cream today and I can’t focus around her and also I can’t stop thinking about her and also–” Nora plopped herself face first into Abby’s lap, groaning loud enough for her roommate to hear.
“Does my Nora have a crush?” Abby teased at her, poking the back of her head. Nora sprung up.
“What! No! Of course not!” Abby didn’t believe her. “I just can’t focus around her, that’s all. And it’s frustrating me.” Nora defended herself, slumping against the couch.
“Hmm. Sounds like a crush to me.” Abby retorted, leaning her head on her hand.
Nora couldn’t have a crush! I mean, when has Nora ever had time to think about crushes? Or dating? Hell, with boys or girls!
“I don’t have time for crushes, Abby.” Nora slumped some more until she sat on the floor.
“You don’t have time for anything, Nora! All you do is work, work, work. And I know we’re in college but that doesn’t mean you have to give yourself to the seeds of capitalism just yet.” Abby kicked Nora in the thigh as a way of telling her to get off the floor.
Nora got up with a pout.
“All I’m saying, Nora,” She started, propping her feet on the coffee table, “is that maybe this could do you some good. You got to enjoy life, and you can’t enjoy it if you’re stuck hunched over a book all day.” Nora rolled her eyes before retreating to her room to take a cold shower.
The next morning, after her 4am run and a long shower, Nora got dressed for the day and sat down at her desk to study. She didn’t have any classes today, her professor for the day sending out an email to cancel class the night before. She opened the giant biology textbook that never left her desk and tried to remember where she had left off last.
I was writing notecards, she remembered as she searched her desk to find them.
Her search was interrupted by the loud ping of her cellphone. Nora chose to ignore it, thinking that it was probably just Abby trying to remind her to eat something. Her phone vibrated again and Nora rolled her eyes with a loud sigh and got up to check it out.
She walked over to her bed and picked the phone off the pillow, squinting her eyes at the sudden light hitting her face as another notification came.
“Hi, Captain!” It was you. You texted her.
Oh my god you texted her!
“I know you said only to use your number in case of emergencies but I guess this would qualify as an emergency because you kinda left in a hurry so!!!”
“Are you ok, Captain? I wanted to check up on you afterwards but I didn’t know whether you’d want me to use this number or not so I didn’t text you but I didn’t know what happened and I was getting nervous so I texted you.” God did you ramble.
“Sorry for rambling.” You sent a few seconds later. You added a crying emoji for effect.
It was then, in that moment, that Nora realized she didn’t know how to respond to you.
Why weren’t her fingers moving?
Why was she just staring at her phone with a stupid face?
Move, dammit! Move!
With a deep breath, Nora let out a big, long groan of, “ABBY!” Said friend was at her door within seconds, hair in a frenzy and protein bottle in her hands, ready to attack someone.
“Nora! Nora what is it? Is someone dying?” With wide eyes, Nora handed Abby her phone, to which Abby lowered her guard and grabbed it out of Nora’s hands. “Nora are you fucking kidding me?” Abby deadpanned after reading the messages, seeing it was only someone expressing concern over her friend and not like…cyberstalking her or some shit.
“I don’t know what to do please help me.” If Abby wasn’t so mad at her she'd tease her for her inexperience and compare her to a lamb. Abby flopped on the bed with a groan and started typing away.
“Wait, wait, wait! What are you doing?” Nora asked frantically as she tried to snatch the phone out of her hands.
“I’m replying. Duh!” She said it as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
“No, but Abby! What are you saying to her?” Nora whined, attempting to grab it again only to fall on Abby’s lap.
“You know, for someone who denies that this is a crush you aren’t really helping your case all that much.” She continued typing, and Nora thought that whatever she was typing would be long and embarrassing and stressful.
“Abby!” Nora dragged out her name as she tried to reach for the phone again. “Come on! I know you’re gonna put something embarrassing!” Nora gave Abby a pout and made no move to move off of her friend.
“I’m not! I swear!”
“Then read it to me!”
“What?”
“Read what you wrote to her!”
“Ugh, you’re so childish.” She said as if she wasn’t the one typing something to Nora’s…Nora’s…well…Nora’s whatever. “Hey, (y/n).” Abby paused. “Such a cute name by the way. Good choice.” She continued. “I’m fine. Thanks for checking up on me. I was wondering if we could meet up later and–” Nora started to protest, reaching up for the phone. Abby held it away from her. “And I could, hey quit that–” Abby smacked her hand away. “I could explain why I’ve been acting so weird lately, if that’s alright with you–Nooooooo.” Abby whined like a child when Nora snatched the phone away and deleted the text message. “All my hard work! Wasted! Oh the inhumanity!” Abby fell on the bed, fake fainting.
“I don’t wanna meet her.” Nora muttered as she stared at the phone with a glare.
“And why not? I told you, this is good!” Nora looked at her in disbelief. “This is good! You need a break, Nora. If you don’t slow down now next time you have time for yourself you’ll be a bag of bones!”
“Not a bag of bones…”
“Yes, a bag of bones! So you are going to take this phone, text this girl back, and you are going to talk to her or by god I will throw your planners away. And I know where you keep them. All of them.” Abby pushed the phone up to Nora’s face.
“Even the Scooby Doo one?”
“Especially the Scooby Doo one. That goes first. Now type.” With a cry and a wail about how hard Abby was making her life, Nora started texting you back, giving the phone to Abby for approval.
“Hey, (y/n).” She started typing. “Abby please don’t make me do this.” Abby didn’t budge. “I’m fine. Thank you for checking up on me. I promise I’m ok and you don’t need to worry about me–”
“Don’t put that. You're invalidating her feelings.” Abby interjected.
“…I’m happy you checked up on me. If you want I’d like to meet–”
“Abby I’m nervous! Please can’t I just go back to studying?” Abby told her no.
“…up with you again. Maybe sometime this afternoon. Or whenever you want to it doesn’t have to be today it could be tomorrow or next week or–”
“You’re stalling.” Abby warned her, already reaching for her Scooby Doo planner hidden under her mattress.
“…Is this afternoon good?” Nora closed her eyes and hit send.
You replied within a minute.
“Sure! How about around 5. I should be done with my hair around then.” You sent a bunch of emojis afterwards and Nora plopped down in the bed with a groan after she agreed.
“See? You see how good things go when you listen to me?” Abby put the almost destroyed planner back in its place and patted Nora on the head. Nora groaned even louder. “Now. I want to know what time you’re going so you can have time to look nice.” Abby added emphasis on that last part. “And I mean it. No sweatpants or oversized jackets. I want you looking nice.” Nora’s face dropped at Abby’s constrictions.
“You’re already making me suffer by going outside but now you’re making me dress nice? You’re killing me, Abby!”
“No, I’m helping you. Now hold on for a second. I need to text the group chat about this historical moment.” Nora's eyes widened as she watched Abby get up and run back to her room before she could stop her.
When 4:30 rolled around, Nora patted herself down nervously and stared at Abby with a confused face.
“Come on, Nora. You look fine.” Nora stared at herself once more, her black jeans, light blue t-shirt and black shoes seeming too…boring for this.
“I-I don’t know, Abby. Maybe I should just cancel and say I got sick. Is it too late to hit myself with something?” Nora held her purse in shaky hands.
“No! You’re doing this. Now come on.” Abby dragged her from out her room and to the living room, where their friends, Manny, Owen, and Mel were hanging out and watching tv.
“You guys! Abby’s forcing me to go outside! Help me!” Nora tried to plead as she dragged her feet on the floor.
“Hmm… I don’t see a problem with that.” Manny spoked, looking at her with amusement clear on his features.
“Yeah, Nora. Owen and I for sure thought you were going to turn into a vampire or something if you stayed inside any longer.” Mel agreed while Owen nodded his head.
“That’s not how vampirism works and you know it!” Nora planted her feet into the ground and groaned. “Owen! Hide me! Help me! Save me!” Nora pleaded as Abby pushed her along to the door.
“Sorry, Nora. My expertise is animals not humans.” He said with a shrug and put his head on Mel’s shoulder.
“Traitors! Traitors! All of you!” Abby finally got her to the door and pushed her out with a huff.
“You be back no earlier than 6. Got it?” Abby ordered. Before Nora, could protest, Abby interrupted her. “If you wanna save the Scooby Doo planner you better start walking.” Nora closed her mouth and glared at her before calling her a muscle head and walking away. She heard the chorus of bye’s and have fun’s as she walked down the hall. You both had agreed to meet up at the campus park, and as Nora walked up, she saw you sitting on the bench with a book in your hands. Nora recognized it as Pride and Prejudice, something Abby had read a thousand times.
You looked up and spotted her. With a smile, you said, “Hi, Captain!” You placed the book beside you and waved at her. You had twists in your hair, and it went down to just below your shoulders.
“Hey, (Y/n).” Nora sat down next to you and placed her hands in her lap.
“I’m glad you decided to meet up! I was really worried about you yesterday.” You tried to keep the smile on your face despite the concern present.
Nora’s face burned as she rubbed the back of her neck.
“Yeah, um, sorry about that I…um…” Nora couldn’t really explain herself in that moment.
“No need to explain yourself, Captain. I’m just glad you’re ok.” Your smile never faltered and Nora decided to smile back.
“But-But thank you! For, um, taking me to the ice cream place yesterday. I really appreciate it.” Nora didn’t know why she was stuttering so much. If the group were here they’d be laughing at her.
“No problem. I like going there a lot. Not just for the treats but…it’s calming. Gives me time to get away.” Your phone buzzed and you checked it with a frown.
“Is everything alright?” Nora felt kinda sad when your attention wasn’t on her.
“Yeah. It’s just my stupid ex.” EX? Ex as in ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend? Ex-partner? Oh my god what was Nora thinking? She didn’t have time for crushes! Let alone any time for exes or dating of feelings or–
“Hey, Captain.” Nora perked up.
“Y-Yeah?” She could run. Nora could run and hide and go back to the apartment Scooby Doo planner be DAMNED.
“You remember when I told you about getting caught up in the little things?” Nora remembered, yes. “This is one of those little things. Just relaxing in the park, or going to the ice cream parlor, or staying after practice with you.”
Wait, what? Nora must’ve misheard.
“I could never share those little things with anybody else. Not even a person I had thought I liked. But I can with you.” You turned to her with a smile, moving a stray twist from out of your face. “I’m glad I was able to show you the things that relax me. Hopefully, Captain, they can relax you too.”
“Nora.” She blurted out.
“Hmm?” You titled you head to the side.
“You can call me Nora. I-I don’t mind.” You smiled at her, and Nora started to feel her heart burst in her chest.
“Ok…Nora.” Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Nora liked you.
Holy shit. She liked you.
“I-I’m glad you thought about me so much.” Nora played with her fingers as she spoke.
“Well, Nora. How about we go see a movie? I hear there’s this new mystery movie that’s so intense that people lost their senses when they left the theater!”
Nora laughed at your giddiness.
“Sure. I’d like that.” You stood up and grabbed your book to place it in your bag. You held out your hand to Nora and she took it, although a bit hesitantly.
“Cool. Let’s go, then.”
Maybe, just maybe, Nora could learn how to handle a crush this time around.

Foot Issues
alright so im feeling inspired so here's a little thing I whipped out
Pairing: BalletTeacherJungkook x DanceStudentReader (mostly ballet)
Warnings: It sounds like a foot kink but its not, (unless you want it to be i guess) readers feet are disgusting, pain because ballet=pain, maybe sugar daddy (who knows, definetly not me 0-o)
Genre: Its literally fluff and I think im gonna make this a series because this is adorable
Summary: Reader is having some foot problems in ballet class one day and Jungkook is quick to check in on her
Ok so Jungkook is one of the biggest goofballs and relatively new to teaching
He's trained all his life in ballet, but after three years at a professional company he decided its not his cup of tea and he loves teaching so much more than performing
He gets job offers from a handful of state dance schools where they teach more than just ballet
He decides on the school that allows him to teach both the littles and the bigger kids because Jungkook is a sucker for the six-year-old smilies with the missing teeth.
When Jungkook firsts start his job he's quick to familiarize himself with the other teachers
Hoseok teaches Hip hop and Jimin teaches jazz and contemporary
It's a pretty versatile studio and the owner Kim Namjoon, even though he doesn't particularly dance, is suddenly Jungkooks idol
Namjoon is so good with the kids and teens, and he's so young and has already created such a strong business
Insert Jungkook making heart eyes at Namjoon uwu
But then Namjoon introduces Jungkook to you
You are one of the girls on scholarship taking the upper-level classes while pursuing a dance degree at college
"Jungkook, this is (y/n). She's one of the university students here on a scholarship. You might see her around because she clean's the studios on Monday and Wednesdays as apart of her scholarship, so if you need anything and can't find the other teachers feel free to ask her."
Jungkook thinks you look sweet enough, but it's odd for him at first because you only look two or three years younger than him but he's gonna be your teacher
You smile and try not to bust a nut because oh my god he's fucking attractive
You try to mask the color on your cheeks but before you can talk more Mr. Park is calling you because Contemporary is about to start
So you yeet yourself out of there, finally letting out a breath you didn't know you were holding
So you find out Jungkook is a pretty decent teacher
The only issue is all of the other uni students are too busy staring at his ass than actually paying attention
Well....you are too, but you aren't as obvious as them, right?
The cast list for the show specifically for the university kids is coming out soon
The show is the wizard of oz and you really want to be the wicked witch of the west
What? Not only does she get to do the fun, big jumps but Dorothy is overrated
So you have been working really hard in class and haven't really been paying attention to Jungkook until your foot starts to hurt bad
Your pointe shoes are relatively new and you haven't rolled your ankle so you don't really understand why
Jungkook comes up to you during a développé combination and he's grabbing your leg and placing your foot on his shoulder, his hands pushing your ankle up.
Ooooof the pain
you bite your lip to avoid the discomfort but Jungkook only scolds you,
"Relax."
sure relax, you try lifting your leg above your head.
But no, seriously Jungkooks extensions are insane, you watched him do a leg hold turn once and it was crazy
When Jungkook puts your leg down he immediately notices how red and swollen your foot is
After barre when all of the students go to the centre he calls you out and asks you to put on your flat shoes
You blank because
ExCUse mE
First off, he didn't ask any of the other girls to take off their pointe shoes, and you don't want him to think you're lazy or incapable and then give you a bad part in the show
You kind of stand there like an idiot while he raises his eyebrows at you,
"Bu-"
"now (y/n)"
Jungkook is never really strict with your class, sure he gets annoyed when some of you get off the music (cough cough* its always Lisa* cough cough) or when he has to give the same corrections, but he's pretty chill, he even lets you call him Mr. Jungkook
He wanted to be called Jungkook but Namjoon said he needed to keep a level of professionalism
Anyways
Jungkook sound generally mad at you and you try to hide your annoyed facial expression while you rip off your ribbons and slip on the flat shoes that make you look like a novice
On the bright side, you can do a triple pirouette in flat shoes while you can only do doubles on a good day in your pointe shoes
Class is kind of hazy because you're still annoyed but once it's over all of the girls go to bow to Jungkook because it's proper and you should always bow to your teacher
"Wait, (y/n), can you stay after? I want to take a look at your foot."
"Um...ye-eah, sure."
Fuck
You're gonna be alone with this snack
Jungkook sits cross-legged on the floor, clad in his tight, but somehow flexible jeans and his black T-shirt
"Did you do something to your foot? It was really swollen in your pointe shoe today."
You take off your flat shoes and roll back the tights of your injured foot though you practically feel no pain
Okay...
SO Jungkook is ATTRACTIVE, and he's gazing at your feet as if its the most important thing on the planet
but your feet are fucking disgusting
Your big toe lost a toenail the other day and you have blisters on your third and fourth toes. Bandages cover your pinky and its completely red.
"I'm gonna touch your foot."
Jungkook grabs your foot and puts it in his lap and looks up at you through the fringe of his hair, and this motherfucker starts to giggle
"Um..." You worry he's lost his shit for a second but then he's looking back down at your foot
"I've seen my fair share of gross feet (y/n), no need to be embarrassed"
Okay you're blushing all over and looking anywhere but him as he starts to ask questions
"Does it hurt? Can you feel this? Have you rolled over your box"
"No, no, and no."
This boi
He starts to massage your foot
Your filthy, ugly, foot
and it's strangely intimate
You gasp in a very unsexual way that sounds very sexual
You suddenly feel everything as if the blood was finally rushing to your foot
"Your pointe shoes are definitely too tight. My guess is that because of how hard you've been working your feet have swelled up a bit, which is normal-"
How can Jungkook move his hands like that? His fingers are spreading the skin and rolling his palm against the arch of your foot and it feels like heaven. His hands are distracting you so much that you don't even hear the compliment he gave you
"You're gonna need new pointe shoes though."
You stop drooling and flinch your foot away from his hands
"What?"
"You need new pointe shoes."
so
POINTE SHOES ARE EXPENSIVE
and you're BrOKe, there's a reason you're a scholarship girl
"What would happen if I just keep dancing on the pointe shoes I have now."
He sends you the same glare he did in class
"I won't let you dance in those shoes (y/n). They cut off your circulation and could damage your feet."
His eyes suddenly widen and he starts to blush a bit, "if money is a problem I can help you out."
"What? No, I can figure something out, and I don't want you to feel like I'm using you and I already have the scholarship I cou-"
Jungkook after rubbing some hand sanitizer into his hands that are kept in all the studios helps you to your feet by gently grabbing your hands
"(Y/n) I know your scholarship doesn't cover your pointe shoes, and if you want to be ready for rehearsals for Wiz you'll need them by Wednesday."
He gauges your reaction carefully and gently grabs your elbows as he stands in front of you,
"Hear me out, I pay for them, you pay me back when you have the money. Deal?"
You hate this, but you have no idea what else to do, and he's right. If you don't have them for rehearsals they might lower your position or not cast you.
"Fine."
You're suddenly very conscious of how close the two of you are and you both jump away as if you've burned each other
"Um, I should go." You turn to grab your bag but just before you head out the door you send Jungkook a smile.
"Mr. Jungkook, thank you seriously."
Jungkook will come to realize, that your smile will be stuck in his head for the rest of the week.

24 Days of Christmas with NCT
IDK IF IM EVER NOT IN MY CHENLE FEELS THESE DAYS. So this is a little self indulgent
DAY 2 - ZHONG CHENLE
Chenle and Y/N cook a meal at his place for the first time and decorate his place for christmas.
warnings// like one swear, playful arguing.
I rang the doorbell my nerves distracting my from the pain of carrying all the groceries over on the bus. the door opened a second later to Chenle’s smiling face, his cheeks were rosy like he was running around him flinching slightly as there was the sound of something falling in the closet beside the door. i pretended not to hear it as i walked in.
“hi.” he said smiling shyly at me
“hey.” i said “i hope i got everything.” I said holding the bag up.
“OH!” he said grabbing it from me “Thanks!” He said running off into the kitchen. “i’ve already started some of the stuff.” he said distantly
“Some? how much are we eating?” i asked him i said shedding my coat and shoes onto the bench just before the kitchen.
“just enough for us. Jisung wants leftovers though.” He said sheepishly
“is he joining us, we could use the help decorating the tree?” i asked. We were going to put Christmas decorations up tonight as well.
“no, i told him i’d bring them to practice tomorrow.” he said stirring at the pot on the stove. I sat down to catch my breath, the wind was picking up the whole way here, it was really getting cold these days, i was certain we'd wake up to snow any day now. I took in the sight before me, Lele in his huge oversized sweatshirt, and joggers, his socks mismatched in his slippers. a dish towel hung over his shoulder. His hair standing up in different places in the back but you can tell he tried to tame it. I smiled at him he turned and caught me
“What?” he said
“you are the absolute cutest.” i said walking over to him. I wrapped my arms around him sticking my cold hands up under the front his sweatshirt. he squealed
“You’re hands will warm up if you start chopping” he said holding a bag of veggies to the opening of his sweatshirt. I kissed the back of his neck and grabbed them from him. He turned in my grip and wrapped his arms around me. placing soft kisses on the top of my head. i slowly looked up and he met my lips with a smile, a few small kisses. i sighed then pulled away
“i’d better get to work.” I said “Where’s the knifes?” i asked him as he quickly returned to his pot adding things slowly
“over there.” he said pointing his chopsticks to the drawer by the fridge. I opened it to see it was completely unorganized i couldn’t help the small smile that formed. I found a knife that would work for all my veggies and went over to the cutting board beside the stove. He was opening the meat and adding it to the soup base he has made. I got to work chopping hearing him singing softly beside me. It wasn’t long before i had quite a few piles of vegetables to add to our stew. I turned to show Chenle proudly but he wasn’t beside me i could hear him giggle behind me “is my baby done?” He asked in a teasing tone knowing i was trying to be cute. i nodded keeping the act up. he came over and looked over the piles praising them. Placing a kiss on my hand “Poor baby hand must be tired.” He said teasing. I shoved him. all nerves i had of being over at chenle’s house for the first time gone. His kitchen was small and cosy. He had fruit sitting in various spots on the counter, take out menus sitting in a pile on top of the fridge that had three magnets one held a picture of him and his mom and dad and brother. A picture of his nephew and a polaroid of us. His table and chairs were simple and so him it made me smile thinking of all the work he put into his place. I went and sat down as he put something in the oven. I watched as he added the final things to the stew. He came over and sat across from me "will you still be able to put up the tree? he teased
“You gonna give me a tour first?” i asked knowing we had some time. He smiled at me and nodded.
“this is the kitchen.” he said smiling “i didn’t decorate much.” he said quietly “But i like it.” He got up and grabbed my hand he led me into the living room. “This is my living room, I have my TV and Games all set up here. he said pointing to his entertainment console. My couch.” He said “which we can enjoy after we eat.” He said “it’s soft, i made sure of it.” he winked. "the tree can go here." he said as we walked by the window, he led me down his hall “The bathroom.” he said “boring, i just added towels and i didn’t even buy them, my mom did.” he laughed “This is the bedroom.” he said he opened the door and his piano was in the corner by the window he had sheets of music spread across the top. His double bed was half made, his bag for practice each day sitting on the floor by the piano. He had a TV mounted on the wall and a chair in the corner with a pile of hoodies and jackets on it. His bedside stand had a few bottles of water and a remote and a Bluetooth speaker and a pile of AirPods. he didn’t have much but it was so him it wasn’t even funny. He was a simple kid. "we decorating the piano?" i asked "maybe." he said "i'm worried i didn't buy enough." He said walking towards his closet, he pulled a huge box out "tree." then went back for two bags "everything else. OH AND LIGHTS!" he said running back down his hall, i heard a crash and him swearing then a door slamming. i walked out to see him standing by the closet in the door way. "i have like 5 boxes. is that enough?" he asked "should be." i said walking into the kitchen "don't worry." i said stirring his soup "this smells amazing." i said sniffing at all the things we had cooking, i could hear him dragging the box down the hall, tiny grunts and thuds coming down the hall getting louder as he neared the kitchen "need some help?" "nope." he said "i'm good." struggle in his voice evident. his dramatic ass flopping on a kitchen chair a few seconds later. "why did you drag it all the way there in the first place?" i asked him "i wanted to surprise you." he said smiling sweetly at me.
"i'm so full i could puke." he said a burp escaping him "Let's go watch something before we decorate." i said standing up and placing the dishes in the sink. "i'll do these before i leave." i said knowing he hates doing dishes we walked into the living room and sunk into his couch, i sat on the end he sat right beside me and took my legs onto his lap. He skimmed through his TV asking me what i wanted to watch we decided on watching the grinch. he was having fun doing a grinch voice he leaned over so he was laying me while hugging my legs, i played with his hair. we enjoyed the moment of laziness together.
"IT GOES HERE!" i yelled at him from the other side of the three "NO WAY, ITS FROM THIS SIDE." He yelled back "Give it to me!" i said "let me try it!" he whined "fine." i said sighing he tried to fit it in for at least 5 minutes before coming around to my side admitting his defeat i tried to hide my smirk as he handed it to me before grumbling off to get another section. It took us an hour and a half to fully set up the tree and have all the lights plugged into the right places, maybe it'd be less if we didn't argue half the time but it was finished. i was placing a ball on the tree when he tackled me over to his couch, He placed a few kisses on my cheeks and lips leaning over my softly "WHAT?" i asked him pretending to be annoyed at this point "you're too cute when your bossy." he said kissing my jawline and getting closer and closer to my neck i started leaning back to let him but he left a raspberry on my cheek then he giggled and started tickling me. i screamed in laughter as he held me down and went to town tickling my sides. i ultimately shoved him off and he landed with a thud beside me "yah!" he yelled but ended up laughing as he pulled a squished box of lights from underneath him i got up and pulled him up and pulled him in for a hug. "they're still good." he said giggling as he pulled the lights out of the box behind me. we spent the rest of the night decorating his living room there were lights all around. He stood back and admired the work we had done. i saw we had a few pieces of garland left, and a box a lights "piano?" i asked him "fine." he said and i ran down the hall with the decorations he sat on the bench as i sat on his bed ripping open the packaging. I wound the lights around the garland and tested the lights. He was softly playing all the Christmas songs he knew as i got to work lightly taping it to his piano and winding them around his candles. "see this will be so much better now." i said sitting beside him placing a kiss on his cheek as he transitioned from jingle bells to another song. the rest of our night was spent at his piano, with wine and candles lit in the glow of the lights.

Summary: (Y/n) is a good girl from a church-going family and her brother, Joe is trying to put Ben behind bars. But when (Y/n) starts to fall for the dangerous killer, things get complicated.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"(Y/n) what are you doing in there? Come on, I have to get ready for work." Cora's rather scratchy and naturally high-toned voice cut through the static buzzing in (Y/n)'s ears like a bee trapped inside her head. The more she tried to focus on Cora's irritating voice and the sounds she could hear, she realised she could hear her sister's foot impatiently tapping against the floor outside the bathroom. And Cora's shadow could just about be seen through the small gap between the door and the carpet.
(Y/n) wished her sister would go away. It was hard enough being in the bathroom for any reason when you knew someone was waiting right outside the door silently telling you to hurry up. But with Cora right there it made being sick a lot harder for (Y/n) because she couldn't smother the wretching sounds she made when she threw up.
If her sister heard her being sick she wouldn't be all that sympathetic but she would be annoyed and tell their parents and (Y/n) didn't need that. She didn't need anyone suspecting something was wrong or that she was ill because her mother had already commented on how tired and pale she seemed for the past few days.
Tipping her head down, (Y/n) rested her face against the rim of the toilet that was soothingly cold against her burning hot skin. She knew if she wasn't careful she could fall asleep right here like this but she had to get up.
Today was a big day.
Today (Y/n) and Ben were going for their twelve week scan- to their first scan, and the thought already made (Y/n)'s stomach churn in the wrong way.
She wanted to go to the scan, (Y/n) was desperate to see their baby on the screen to prove to herself that this was real and this was happening, but the thought wasn't settling as well in her head as it was in her heart. She knew that this scan was only going to cement things and prove that she was going to have to tell her family about Ben very soon. She couldn't keep him her secret for much longer and that hurt, for almost half a year Ben had been her little secret, he had been hers and only hers.
Now with the baby, (Y/n) was going to have to come clean that she had a boyfriend- no, a fiance now and she was pregnant and that was something no one in her family was going to take very well.
Her parents would throw a fit, Cora wouldn't he pleased that she wasn't going to be the first one to get married or have kids and Joe wouldn't be happy and when he knew it was Ben he was going to hit the roof.
Just the thought of Joe's reaction made (Y/n) sit up on her knees straighter and lean over the toilet as the last drop of water she had consumed was released into the toilet as quietly as she could manage. Eating was becoming a rather big struggle right now due to morning sickness but (Y/n) was beginning to scare herself because she realised the more she panicked, the more she threw up and the less she ate. Her anxiety was worsening her morning sickness and when she was at home and sometimes even when she was with Ben, she couldn't stop herself from worrying.
When she was at home she feared someone was going to find out about Ben or the baby and when she was with Ben she couldn't stop herself from thinking about having to tell her family the truth.
"(Y/n) I'm going to be late!"
Cora's loud voice made (Y/n) shudder and seemed to kick-start her brain into action.
With a deep breath, (Y/n) used the toilet as leverage to push herself onto shaking legs and move over to cling to the sink by the door. She swirled some mouthwash and spat into the sink a few times, splashing her face with water before trying to look calm and collected. The moment she unlocked the door Cora was eyeing her suspiciously as she hurried into the bathroom before (Y/n) had chance to step out.
"S-sorry, what time is it?"
"Quarter past ten and I have to be at work at quarter-to." Cora gave her sister one last concerned yet irritated look before she shut the door to signal that she had wasted enough time already.
A shiver ran down (Y/n)'s spine when she realised that she had been sat on the bathroom floor for a good half an hour throwing up when she thought it had been fifteen minutes at the most. She had to go and meet Ben near the church and head down to the hospital because their appointment was at eleven.
(Y/n) made her way downstairs and almost stumbled down the hall to get to the kitchen at the back of the house. Once there, she grabbed herself a bottle of juice out the fridge that she had bought yesterday and took an apple from the counter that she would put in her bag in case her appetite came back later. She had to get going, there was no time for breakfast, not that she would have even bothered trying to eat any anyway with how unsettled her stomach felt right now.
"Where are you going, you haven't had breakfast?" Linda's voice caused (Y/n) to stop in her tracks just as she walked out of the kitchen and into the hallway.
Her head slowly turned to the right to look at her mother who was stood in the doorway to the dining room with her hands on her hips and a confused yet annoyed expression on her face that usually made (Y/n) cave in and listen to whatever she said. But not today. (Y/n) was busy, anxious and uneasy, she had to go and be with Ben to try and calm down and get on with the day.
After the scan she and Ben were heading over to the club for work and (Y/n) was at work until seven tonight which would thankfully keep her mind from everything. As soon as the scan was over and they were at work (Y/n) would feel calm, the club was oddly calming to (Y/n), it was more of a sanctuary than the church was. The club didn't make her question her thoughts or beliefs or give her questions no one could answer. The club was where Ben was, it was where she was happy to work and do work that was important and fulfilling and around people she was slowly feeling at ease around and able to call friends, even if she was the only girl there.
She wanted to be away from home.
"I'm gonna be late for work, I have to go catch the bus." (Y/n)'s lips curved into a sorry smile before she continued down the hall to stuff her phone, drink and the apple into her bag and put on her shoes. She really didn't have the time to stop and chat even if she wanted to, she wasn't really lying to her parents this time.
"(Y/n) we're going to have to have a talk about this, you're disappearing almost every day and not just for work and most days you're not coming home all night. This can't continue."
It was her father's voice this time that brought her to a standstill just as her hand was reaching out for the front door. Her body froze and her head slowly turned so she could look back over her shoulder when her father bypassed Linda and walked down the hall to get to (Y/n). She was surprised it had taken them this long to get fed up with how little time she was now spending at home and how she was always out, especially at night. She thought they would have tried to ground her or force her to stay home a lot sooner than this.
"I finish work at seven, I'll be home tonight." (Y/n) gave them no more time to quarrel with her before she flung herself out the door and tried to walk steadily down the street. Her head felt like it was pounding and it took her a few moments before she was walking properly and steadily rather than wobbling on uncoordinated feet.
When (Y/n) reached the path in front of the church her hand reached out and curled around the metal gate protecting the religious beacon. she used the gate to steady herself and stay upright but the further she walked and the more she kept glancing to look over at the church on her left, the more she could feel herself breaking.
Why would God make her life and her relationship with her family so strained when everyone in her family believed in him and were his followers? Her father had devoted his life to the church and to God and this was how he repaid him? By making him and his wife so strict in bringing up their children and by making (Y/n)'s happiness conflict the interests and values of her family.
The longer (Y/n) was with Ben, the more she realised how unfair her religion was making her life and the lives of others. It was like Ben was washing away her faith and she didn't know if that was really a bad thing or not when Ben made her happy but it was her religion that didn't allow it.
A shuddering breath escaped (Y/n)'s lips as she slowly lowered herself down to her knees and manoeuvred so she was sitting on the pavement, leaning up against the gates. She didn't care if she was still within sight of her home or her neighbours or if anyone could see her and wondered what she was doing. She just needed a moment to gather herself. (Y/n) leaned her head down to press her face in her hands as she brought her knees up to her stomach, feeling each breath she took pushing through her fingers in an oddly soothing kind of way, even though her hands were beginning to shake.
Confusion and slight worry pooled in Ben's stomach when his eyes set on (Y/n) and he watched her stop walking and slowly move to sit down on the floor next to the church gates. It was as if she was trying to walk past the church and not go inside but it was calling out to her.
Ben stuffed his lime green lighter into his coat pocket and placed the newly lit cigarette between his lips before he walked away from the car he was leaning against and headed down the street to where (Y/n) was. He didn't know what she was doing, she could be just gathering herself and having a moment to think, she could be upset and unsure of what to do, she could be ill or she could just be having some kind of quarrel with her faith. Whatever it was, Ben wanted to go and make sure she was okay.
When he reached her, Ben crouched down in front of her, leaning his weight onto the toes of his shoes as he flicked some ash off his cigarette before placing it carefully behind his ear so it was out the way. He didn't want it in his mouth or between his fingers in case he got too close to (Y/n) and caught her with it.
"Baby, what are we doing down here?" Ben gently rested his hands on (Y/n)'s elbows as he spoke but it was clear his voice and his words didn't register or link to his hands because (Y/n)'s head snapped up out of her hands and her arms flailed about. Her hand came close to hitting him before she realised who it was holding onto her, she hadn't been expecting Ben or anybody else to approach her.
(Y/n) closed her eyes for a second, moving her hand to rub at her temple before she moved her hands to hold onto Ben's arms as a small smile formed on her lips.
"Everything okay?" The way Ben grinned at her made her heart beat faster in her chest and send butterflies running through her system which made her feel much better than she did seconds ago.
"Just needed a minute, I'm good now."
(Y/n)'s head automatically tilted to the side like she was trying to get a better angle of Ben as she watched him with intrigue and anticipation. Something about the way Ben smoked always caught (Y/n)'s attention and she wasn't quite sure why. There was something different and attractive about the way he held his cigarettes and how he bit them so he could speak perfectly around them without any slurred speech.
She watched Ben take the cigarette from behind his ear where it really shouldn't be when it was already lit. He flicked the ash onto the floor before pressing the end between his lips and biting it with his teeth to make sure it didn't fall. His blushing vermilion lips grinned in a darkening look that always came off as predatory but never seemed to scare (Y/n). The cigarette tilted up towards his nose when he parted his lips to breathe out the swirl of grey smoke at the same time as he held his hands out for (Y/n) to take.
When her palms were resting safely in his own, Ben stood up and gently pulled (Y/n) up with him. He kept her hand enveloped in his own as they slowly started walking towards the car.
(Y/n) leaned her head on Ben's arm, absentmindedly smiling when the coarse material of his overcoat prickled against her skin. The coat was one (Y/n) was now used to seeing Ben wearing in the cold weather and it was one she loved to see on him. It was a rough fibre material that went down to about his knees and had five buttons down the front to do up and the collar could be pulled up and just barely covered part of his ears. The coat set off Ben's on-edge look and the unsettled, dark character he oozed but it was a look that (Y/n) loved.
When they reached the car, Ben stubbed the cigarette beneath his shoe and the edge of the pavement before he turned to (Y/n).
"Are you ready?"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Closing the red book set on the desk in front of her, (Y/n) tipped her head back and closed her eyes to try and relieve the headache forming behind her eyes. She was on finance books today, making sure all the money was accurate and no unwanted or unreasonable spendings had taken place. (Y/n) liked doing the books, it made her feel important and it was time consuming and detailed and she could also do the wages too because everyone was cash in hand here.
But the headache behind her eyes was making it harder and harder to read the books properly without mistaking the letters and numbers. It was almost seven o'clock anyway so it was almost time to go home. The club shut for business at seven and only a few workers hung back if they had the rather dodgy business they had to sort out.
With a sigh, (Y/n) opened her eyes and glanced over to the clock on the wall, feeling her heart picking up speed when she realised she would be at home in less than half an hour. She didn't want to go home. (Y/n) didn't want to go and argue with her parents about how little time she was at home recently and she didn't want to go home and have to worry about them finding out about the baby or how she was eventually going to tell them.
As the worries started floating around in her head, (Y/n) looked down to the ring settled on the wedding ring finger. Ben had gotten her an engagement ring on Thursday that was a perfect fit and it was weird for (Y/n) to have a ring that she wore all the time now when she never used to. She wore the ring to work, at home, she slept in it and showered with it on and it felt amazing.
Every time she looked at the ring it made her feel different, it made her feel grown up and her own person and it made her giddy because she was going to be married soon. The only problem was that when (Y/n) did go home, she had to move the ring from her left hand to her right hand so no one caught it and her lies would be exposed.
Looking at the ring made (Y/n)'s hand move down to hover lightly over her stomach that was unchanged except for the slightest curve right at the bottom of her abdomen and it was unnoticeable except to her scrutinising eyes. They went to their scan this morning and it had gone well, no problems, nothing indicating that there was any worries or anomalies, the baby was perfectly fine and healthy and hearing the heartbeat made this now feel real for (Y/n).
(Y/n) was relieved she wasn't showing yet even though she knew once she got a bump everything would feel real and set in stone. Right now it was easy to hide the pregnancy and that was how (Y/n) needed it to stay, just for a little while longer.
"Are you almost ready to go home, doll?" Ben's words broke (Y/n) out of her trance and she looked up to find him leaning over her with his hands on the desk, a smile on his face as he watched her become unstuck from her thoughts.
When (Y/n) hummed and nodded, Ben took the finance books and the few notes she'd made and moved to put them in the cabinet before locking it safely. (Y/n) took Ben's hand when he walked back over to her and she followed him out of the office and down the corridor, the car park was round the back so they always came in and left through the back door.
(Y/n) could feel her headache becoming worse when they got in the car and she knew she was that much closer to going home. But she had to talk to her parents, she had to try and keep the peace with them for a little while longer and she couldn't stay with Ben every night and not tell her parents where she was and worry them like this. But she also knew that sooner or later they were going to have to be told the truth and if she married Ben, the chances were that she was going to move in with him too.
She leaned her head against the window and tried closing her eyes to see if it would help but it wasn't doing very much.
Even when Ben reached across and took her hand when they were on the road, it only helped so much because (Y/n) knew the moment she got out of the car, Ben's touch would be gone and she would be put back into a state of anxiety and stress. She knew that her uneasy feeling was made worse by how little she had eaten today. She'd managed to eat the apple she took with her after the scan and she had half a sandwich for lunch at one o'clock but that was it, anything else she thought or tried to eat made her feel sick.
"Doll, are you okay? You don't look like your with me tonight." Ben turned his head to sneak a glance over at (Y/n) but she looked like she was so far away in her mind that he could barely see her anymore. She was looking out of the window like he was taking her somewhere she didn't want to go like he was driving her to prison and she was quiet too.
"I'm fine, just thinking... I don't want to have to tell my parents about the baby." (Y/n) tangled one hand in her hair as her other hand moved to smooth over her unchanged stomach. She was not looking forward to that conversation when it eventually came about, it was the one thing that scared her more than anything else.
"I'd love to say you don't have to tell them but I think that would be worse. Will they really be mad about it, they won't be the least bit happy at getting a grand-kid?"
Ben knew from what (Y/n) had said that her getting pregnant wasn't going to go down well with her parents and he could see why. She was only just nineteen and she wasn't married yet, they saw her as a little girl and Ben was a bit older than her. It wasn't ideal for them or their morals but Ben would have thought they might be a little bit easier on (Y/n) because she was happy and they would be having their first grandchild.
When (Y/n) scoffed lightly at his words Ben turned his head to look at her, seeing her lips curved into a sad and rather upset kind of smile.
"My parents were married a year before having Joe and we'll be lucky if no one notices I'm pregnant when we get married, that's like breaking a law to them. My dad had high hopes for me, you know? He wanted me to help out at church and have his level of faith and get a respectable job and husband."
"What, I'm not respectable enough for you?"
(Y/n) was thankful Ben was only joking because she wouldn't have known what to say to that. (Y/n) knew her words made her sound snobbish and crude and uncaring but that wasn't what she meant. Her parents had high hopes and (Y/n)'s happiness didn't come into that because what made her happy wouldn't make them happy.
"Marrying a criminal when my brother's an officer isn't going to sit well with them. Sometimes I wish they weren't my family..."
It was hard for (Y/n) to think like that or to say that but it couldn't be helped. When her family didn't value her happiness like they should and when her life had never truly been her own until Ben walked into it, (Y/n) had the right to feel resentful towards them. If Joe wasn't a police officer, if her father wasn't the reverend and if her mother wasn't so snobbish and high achieving and controlling then maybe (Y/n)'s choices and happiness would count for more and they would be more understanding.
(Y/n) didn't want to tell them about Ben or the baby, she wanted to continue sneaking around because it was so much easier than becoming severed from her family like a lost connection. She was never going to be fully accepted back into her family's arms when they found out and Ben was the closest person to her in her family and he was going to become the most distant when he found out how she had betrayed him.
Joe was going to hate her for this.
(Y/n) didn't realise tears were falling from her eyes until they started to blur her vision and she could feel her hands subtally trembling.
"C-can you pull over?" Her hand moved from being knotted in her hair to pressing over her mouth when she felt like she was going to be sick. The nerves in her stomach were becoming tangled up from the worries in her head and the car was making it worse. When (Y/n) glanced out the window and saw she was less than five minutes from home she could feel the bile rising in the back of her throat.
"What? We're nearly at the church I'll drop you there like always." Ben turned his head to look at her, wondering why she wanted him to stop here when he could just take her to the usual spot he dropped her off at.
"I f-feel sick."
Realisation dawned on Ben and he nodded but he didn't even turn off the engine before (Y/n) was out of the car, hunched over the grass on the other side of the pavement. Ben quickly hopped out of the car and headed over to (Y/n), frowning when he watched her throw up onto the grass but his eyes narrowed when he realised she wasn't really being sick, she was throwing up whatever drink she had had earlier which meant she most likely hadn't eaten for quite a while.
"Doll, when was the last time you ate something today?" There was a certain tone and edge to Ben's voice that contrasted to his actions when his left hand was resting gently on (Y/n)'s back and his other hand held out a piece of gum for her to take.
When she felt like she'd finished, (Y/n) slowly straightened up, keeping her arms wrapped around her churning stomach as she turned her head to look up at Ben who was looking down at her with raised brows and darkened eyes.
"I had that apple a-and... about three bites of a sandwich later on." (Y/n) rubbed at her tired eyes as she looked away from Ben. She couldn't lie to him, it wouldn't do any good and he could tell when anyone was lying to him and when people lied he didn't take it very well. (Y/n) felt his hand tensing against her back and the sigh that passed through his lips was almost a growl and it made her shiver.
"Fuck, you can't do that doll you have to eat. Dry heaving and throwing up water is only gonna make you feel worse and you'll make yourself ill, trust me. Alright, get in the car."
"I can walk from here-"
"Get in." Ben was already climbing in the car as he spoke and his tone told (Y/n) not to disagree with him on this so she stayed quiet and got back into the car. She was five minutes from home, she could walk down the street and reach the church in about two minutes, there was no point for Ben to drive her to their usual spot when she could just walk there.
"Ben, w-where are we going?" (Y/n) turned her head and looked out of the window when Ben turned the car around and started to head down a different road. This wasn't the way to (Y/n)'s home, he was going in the completely opposite direction.
"Do you think I don't know that you've been throwing up because you're scared?" His words were oddly calm and understanding compared to how his tone had been just seconds ago. "I'm not taking you home so you can stress yourself out or have a panic attack, you're coming home with me." Ben had seen how bad (Y/n)'s morning sickness was and when he picked her up for the past few days for work he knew she had been sick and she looked unwell. He wasn't blind, he knew she was getting anxious and that was making her feel worse.
Ben couldn't drop (Y/n) off at home when she had just been sick out of worry and when he knew she was only going to feel worse once she was home where her family would most likely start an argument and stress her out. It was better all round if she just came home with him because she wouldn't be as panicked with him and there was nothing at his place to stress her out.
"But I said I'd be home tonight, they'll be worse with me tomorrow if I don't turn up tonight." (Y/n)'s tone was pleading but it was also wavering and weak because they both knew she didn't really want to go back home tonight. She wanted to stay with Ben and go to sleep curled up in his arms and wake up with him where she felt at ease and comfortable rather than at home.
But she also didn't want an argument to happen when she eventually went back home to her family after telling them this morning she would definitely be back home tonight after work.
"You're not well, can't you let me look after you, please?"
(Y/n) needed no more convincing than that to give in and stay silent as Ben headed in the direction of his house instead of hers. When she eventually went back home there was going to be an argument and it was not going to end in (Y/n)'s favour, she knew that for sure.
But for now, she had another night to spend with Ben, away from the panic and threat of her family finding out her secrets.

advice pt2
my apologies this sucks and doesn’t really have a storyline, hope everyone’s staying safe, happy Halloween!
“It’s so good to see you.” Amelia said as she hugged her mother.
“It’s good seeing you too, and look at you, you look amazing for just having a baby.”
“Oh come on, now let me take your bag.” Amelia said as she tossed her mothers bag into the trunk of her car.
“Thanks for picking me up. It really wasn’t necessary, I would’ve taken a bus.” Carolyn said once Amelia got into the drivers seat.
“Mom, that’s ridiculous. It’s really no trouble.”
“So I’m assuming my newest grandson and Link are back at your place?”
“Yeah, we were thinking of going over to Merediths for dinner. If that’s alright with you.”
“Of course, it’s been too long since I’ve seen the kids and Meredith.”
“Good, I know Zola will be excited to see you. She loves to show off all the tricks she’s been teaching their dog.” Carolyn smiled softly, Amelia assumed she was thinking about her late brothers love for dogs.
________________________________________
“Mrs Shepherd it’s so good to see you again.” Link smiled, offering his hand for her to shake.
“Nice seeing you as well Atticus. Please, call me Carolyn.”
“Only if you call me Link.” He said shooting her his charming smile.
“I think we can arrange that.” Carolyn smiled, and then directed to her attention back to her daughter who came into the living room carrying her son. “And this must be my new grandson.”
“Yep, this is Scout.” Amelia said admiring the baby propped on her hip.
“May I?” Carolyn asked holding out her arms for the small child.
“Of course” Amelia carefully shifted the baby into her arms. Links pager then started to beep quickly. “Why are they paging you?”
“No idea.” Link answered looking at the page. “I’ve gotta talk to the chief, she really needs to find another ortho surgeon who doesn’t call in sick every other day. I’ll meet you guys at Mer’s.”
“Okay see you there.” Amelia pecked her boyfriends lips, before he raced out the door which she locked behind him.
“Does he get paged a lot?” Carolyn asked sitting down on the couch.
“I mean for him being on paternity leave, yeah. It’s not his fault though, his fellow was supposed to take over his service, but he’s working a new job and the other ortho surgeon is incompetent. Tom has been covering my service though.”
“Grey-Sloan has become quite the hot spot, I can’t imagine a better offering coming up to someone.”
“He got a job as the Mariner’s team doctor. Link set it up, they offered him his old job back but he recommended Nico instead.”
“I hadn’t realized Link had worked for the Mariners. I’m surprised he turned the job down.”
“Yeah, well it’s a lot of travel, and Scouts so little so he decided to stay at Grey-Sloan.”
“Not a lot of men will let go of a job like that. Link seems like a really good man.”
“He is, and he’s so good to Scout. I’m just waiting for the other shoe to drop, he’s just so perfect.” Amelia gushed, her boyfriend never ceases to amaze her with his kindness.
“So how has Scout’s colic been.”
“He’s doing a lot better, he’s starting to sleep through the night.”
“That must be a relief for you two.” Amelia hummed in agreement, and the two sat in silence before Amelia spoke up with a question.
“This may be a stupid question, but you know this stuff. He’s seem to lost interest in breastfeeding, like he’s on strike or something. What am I doing wrong?”
“Well I don’t think it’s anything you’ve done. It could be a number of things, he could be getting distracted by surroundings if he’s overstimulated, or he could be teething so his gums are sore. He’s still little so I wouldn’t stop. I suggest just being patient, and making sure surroundings aren’t overstimulating.” The neurosurgeons mother suggested. Amelia smiled.
“Thank you. It’s nice being able to go to you for advice now.”
“I’m sorry if I made you feel like you weren’t able to do so before.”
_____________________________________
“Meredith it’s so good to see you again.” Carolyn respectfully greeted when Meredith answered the door.
“You as well.” Meredith awkwardly hugged her mother in law. “The kids are just in the backyard playing with the dog.”
“Would you mind if I joined them?” Carolyn asked.
“No not at all.” Meredith smiled, once Carolyn was out of earshot she confronted Amelia. “Your mother absolutely hates me.”
“She doesn’t hate you, trust me. She absolutely hated Addison, we all had to make sure my mother was on her best behavior. I don’t have to worry she’s going to say something offense to you.” Meredith held her hands out for the small boy, which Amelia passed to her.
“That’s what Derek would say to me, but that was before I unplugged her son without her knowing.”
“Hmm, true.” Amelia bluntly agreed.
“That doesn’t help me, Amelia.”
“I’m sure she doesn’t hate you, she wouldn’t of come over.”
“She’s obligated to come over, those are her sons kids.”
“Are you spinning out?” Amelia chuckled. “I barely ever see this side of Meredith.”
“It’s only your mother who brings out this side of me.”
“She has that way over people.”
_____________________________________
“Hey sorry we’re late.” Link said walking into Merediths kitchen with Maggie and her boyfriend.
“It’s alright, we put your plates in the oven, hopefully theyre still warm.” Meredith said uncharacteristically cheerful. Link shot Amelia a confused look which Amelia giggled to.
“Oh, we just came to pick up some of my old notes from previous patients of mine, for a case.” Maggie said gesturing to her and her boyfriend, as the two left the kitchen.
“Is Scout asleep?” Link asked once he sat down next to his girlfriend.
“Yeah, he went down without a fight.”
“If you’ll excuse me I’m going to go put Ellis to bed.” Meredith gestured to her youngest asleep on the couch. Leaving Carolyn, the couple, and the older kids at the dinner table.
“So my daughter tells me you used to work for the Mariners.”
“Yeah, I did that for a while I really enjoyed it. I love working at Grey-Sloan though, I’m able to do research which I really enjoy.”
“Did they fire you? Because your not very good at hitting a baseball.” Bailey commented
“Well I was their team doctor I wasn’t playing for them, and I didn’t get fired. And if you recall, you were the one who was throwing the ball too low.”
“I’m working on it.” Bailey gave his uncle a double thumbs up. “We’re still going to play on Wednesday right? Maybe Scout can play?”
“Of course we are. But I think Scouts gonna stay with his mom, he’s still little.” Link wrapped his arm around his girlfriends shoulder.
“It’s time for bed you two.” Meredith came into the kitchen gesturing towards her children. They said their goodnights to everyone and made their way upstairs with their mother.
“So Link, tell me about yourself.”
“Mom.” Amelia quickly said, not wanting her boyfriend to feel uncomfortable.
“Oh it’s fine. Well Im a ortho surgeon, sure you probably knew that though. Umm, I’m pretty laid back stress free, but not too laid back like I can handle things.” Link quickly added not wanting to seem irresponsible. Amelia put his hand on his thigh to try to help calm him. “I-I hate avocados, I was a Cub Scout resulting in very good smore making, I can fix bikes pretty well, oh and I play blues guitar.”
“And you still haven’t written me that song.” Amelia added, to which Carolyn chuckled.
“Do you remember that song your brother wrote for Addison?”
“I never knew he could sing, it was quite awkward though. I don’t know what part of him thought that he should write her a song. I think he rhymed ‘Addison Fine Ass’ with ‘Gross anatomy class’”
“I doubt your brother wrote that, that has Mark written all over it.” Carolyn chuckled silently remnicing on when the two best friends were little and very much alive. The baby’s cries disrupting the moment, to which Amelia jumped up to go tend to the baby. Once Amelia was up the stairs Carolyn continued. “I’m going to be honest with you Link. I like you, I’ve never seen my daughter this genuinely happy. I have you to thank for that. And I’d say we didn’t pick up on the right foot. But it appears I tend to like my children’s partners who don’t make the best first impression. Amelia loves with her whole heart and some people find it hard to love her, but you haven’t.”
“I can’t imagine thinking someone would find her hard to love, she’s a straight shooter, and so funny, and the kindest human I’ve ever met, and the best mother to Scout.” Link gushed, getting carried away he loved talking about her girlfriend.
“Welcome to the family.”

Flashbacks & Forewarnings
A JSE Fanfic
There are a lot of different scenes in this one, but don’t worry, it’s not too long. About medium length for my fics, I’d say. First of all, we get a peek into one of JJ’s memories. Then we check in on Dr. Laurens and Schneep, see how they’re doing since it’s been a while. And there’s some minor other stuff as well. I know it seems like it’s a day late, but that’s because I’m moving my fic-posting day to Monday. Hope you guys like this one!
You can find the other stories under the pw timeline tag!
Midafternoon sunlight was streaming through the window. Jameson leaned over to look out the window, glancing downward at the street a few stories below. Then he took his watch out of his pocket and checked the time. Almost four o’clock already? It was almost time to leave. JJ began tidying up, starting the process of going home and getting things ready for the next person to man the desk.
“Hmm? Oh, are you leaving, Mr. Jackson?” Claire, the intern, noticed his cleaning up.
JJ nodded. He paused for a moment, grabbing his notebook and pen from the surface of the desk nearby. Do you know who’s on the next shift?
Claire paused for a moment to read the question; though she was trying to learn BSL, she wasn’t able to hold a conversation yet. “Uhh...I think it’s Mr. Haddock,” she said.
That was what he suspected. Do you think you can handle things until he arrives? JJ asked. He didn’t want to put too much pressure on Claire—she was only sixteen, after all.
“Yeah, no problem,” she said. “Uhh...I just have to monitor the phone, right?”
JJ nodded again. Accepting phone calls was the highest priority part of the job, and also the only thing he couldn’t do. Sending emails, making sure things were filed correctly, getting things from the supply room, all that was alright. But not the phone, for obvious reasons. Luckily, answering phone calls usually fell to the interns. Don’t be afraid to ask Mr. Patterson for help. It should only be ten minutes or so until Timothy arrives, but just to be sure.
“Thanks, Mr. Jackson. Oh! Uh, wait.” Claire made a simple gesture. Thank you.
JJ smiled encouragingly. You’re picking that up quick!
“Really?” Claire brightened up. “Thanks!” She repeated the sign.
JJ stood up, gathering his stuff. I’ll see you tomorrow, he signed, edging around the desk and heading towards the elevator.
“See you.”
Now heading on his way down, Jameson checked his bag, pulling out his phone. Huh...it seemed he had quite a few texts from Chase. He scrolled through the notifications, ending up at the first one, which read: Hey J, remember that thing the detectives called me about ths morning? About Jackie? The second one read: Did you get my last text? The third one read: JJ i really have to talk to you about this. Should i call Marv first? And so on with increasing urgency.
Reading through the messages, Jameson could feel his pulse rising, tense. He’d almost forgotten about the events of that morning. A long day at work was bound to do that. The question had always sort of been lingering in his mind, though. They’d found some sort of break in Jackie’s case. That had to be a good thing, right? A pessimistic part of him pointed out that a “break in the case” didn’t always mean they’d found the missing person. Sometimes it meant they’d found the missing person’s body—
Jameson stepped out of the elevator, forcibly leaving that thought behind. It wasn’t the case this time. It couldn’t be. Even though he hadn’t known Jackie as long as Chase or Marvin had, he still knew him. And he knew he wasn’t the type to go down easily. Quickly, he opened up his texts and started replying to Chase. Sorry I didn’t see any of this, I was at work :( Just got off the lift now. What happened?
Chase didn’t respond for a minute or so, long enough for JJ to walk out of the building and into the crisp October air. But his reply came soon. Oh I forgot about that! Im so sorry.
No no, it’s not your fault. But do tell what happened. What did the detectives say?
The little typing bubble stayed up for a long time. JJ had arrived at the close-by bus stop by the time Chase finally said what he was planning. Uh...actually, can i call you about this? I know you cant answer, and you can say no, i just think itll be easier to say instead of type.
That...wasn’t a good sign. Sure? Jameson typed slowly. I can whistle or something if you need a response.
Immediately, his phone started ringing. JJ almost instinctively declined the call, but caught himself just in time and picked it up. Chase’s voice came through easily from the other side. “JJ? You there, bro?” JJ whistled a yes. “Okay good. Okay. Uhh...this is weird, not being able to see you. But anyway. The thing this morning. The good news is that Schneep’s first doctor showed up! So now he’s gonna have one that doesn’t hate him.” Chase laughed, a bit nervously. “But, uh, I dunno if she’ll go back right away. Because, uh...that’s the bad news. She disappeared because she got kidnapped. By the same person who kidnapped Jackie. And kidnapped Schneep before that. And...” Chase sighed. “You were right. The person who did that is this Anti.” He paused. “Are...are you still there?”
Jameson took a moment to react. And when he did, he hung up. So...it was him.
God, what were the odds? What were the goddamn odds that the two of them would end up in the same place once again?! True, this city wasn’t too far away from the town they lived in before. But he’d always thought Aneirin was the type to stay in a town like that.
Well, at least he didn’t know Jameson was here...
——————
Jameson set down his book, checking the clock. It was a little past eight at night. Naturally, his eyes drifted over to the calendar afterwards. It was a month behind, still reading June 2007.
The front door slammed open downstairs. JJ jumped, then slid a bookmark into the pages of his novel and stood up, heading out the door and down the stairs.
“Hey, Jamie.” Aneirin smiled at him as he came downstairs. “Picked up dinner real quick. Sorry for being late.” He set a bag of McDonald’s down on the nearby coffee table and sighed, reaching upward to make sure his eye-patch was in place.
It’s fine, JJ signed. You’ve been busy lately.
“Yeah, uh...speaking of which.” Aneirin cleared his throat. “I have to go out again later tonight.”
JJ slumped a bit. You sure?
“Yeah...work shit, you know how it is.” Aneirin shook his head. “But hey, I mean, without my work, we wouldn’t have a house, so I’ll take it.”
That was true. Though...Jameson still wasn’t sure what exactly Aneirin did for work. It had odd hours, and Aneirin was hesitant to talk about it, in a way that JJ had initially shrugged off, but was now starting to seem a bit odd. He’d been living with him for a year now, wasn’t it weird that he didn’t know what his brother did? Alright, JJ signed hesitantly. But you owe me.
Aneirin smiled. “I’ll buy you another book.”
I have a lot of books, Aneirin. I haven’t even read them all.
“Something else, then. Whatever you want. Within reason, of course.” Chuckling, Aneirin headed through the doorway into the kitchen. Inside, JJ heard the sound of the coffeemaker—a new addition—starting up.
Frowning, Jameson poked his head into the kitchen doorway. He knocked on the wood, but Aneirin didsn’t turn around, focused on the coffeemaker. “Aan...?” JJ called.
“Hmm?” Aneirin looked over at him.
You aren’t supposed to be holding hot things.
“Jesus christ, I’m not a baby, Jamie.”
Just...remember what happened last time? Jameson pointed out at him. You burned yourself. I’m just worried.
“Yes, but now I know what not to do.” Aneirin shrugged, and turned around. “Besides, the mug will stay on the counter most of the time. So no need to overreact.”
JJ frowned, but left anyway, heading back upstairs to grab his book. He’d move downstairs to finish it, just in case Aneirin ended up needing help.
A couple hours passed. If the past was any indicator, Aneirin would be leaving around this time. JJ made a big show of yawning, and glancing over to the couch where Aneirin was sitting, eyes fixed to the TV but not really paying any attention to the show that was on. Standing up and grabbing his book, JJ signed, I think I’ll go to bed now.
Aneirin responded, “Alright.” without looking away from the screen. Go to bed was one of the sign phrases he could understand even out of the corner of his eyes.
JJ headed up the stairs, slowing down once he reached the second story. He walked over to his room, opening the door and closing it without going inside, instead just waiting in the hall. Immediately, he heard the television downstairs turn off. Footsteps crossed the living room and headed outside. The front door opened and shut. Jameson put his book on the floor next to his room and carefully crept down the stairs, sticking near the walls to avoid the creaks. He made a slight detour to grab his cell phone from the kitchen drawer where it was kept. Then once back in the living room, he crouched close to the ground and crawled over to the front window, peeking outside.
In the driveway, Aneirin was checking something in the trunk of his car. Well, technically, Aneirin always called it “our car,” but he was the only one who drove it. JJ didn’t know how to drive yet. And even if he did, he didn’t have a job and it was the middle of summer vacation, so where would he even need to go? Or at least, those were some of the reasons Aneirin listed when explaining why he wouldn’t teach Jameson how to drive. JJ watched as Aneirin closed the car trunk, and started walking down the block, as he always did when he went out working late at night.
After making sure Aneirin was far enough away, JJ rushed out the front door and over to the car. He opened the door to the back seat and climbed inside, squeezing into the space between the seats where you would normally put your feet. They kept a spare blanket in the car, and Jameson reached over and tried to cover himself, attempting to make it look like the blanket was naturally falling off the seat. Then he waited.
Just a few minutes later, the driver’s side door opened, and he heard Aneirin get inside. The car soon started, and headed out, with Aneirin having no idea Jameson was in the back seat.
He was tired of not knowing anything about where Aneirin went. And if he wouldn’t tell him, JJ would find out by himself.
They drove for a surprisingly long time, long enough for Jameson to start aching from being in this uncomfortable twisted position. He couldn’t exactly tell where they were going from his hiding spot, but he didn’t hear anything unusual, apart from the occasional strange commercial on the radio channel Aneirin was listening to. But of course, the car eventually stopped, and Aneirin climbed out. The locks thunked shut after he left.
Jameson waited a few minutes before sitting up and pushing the blanket aside. Looking out the car windows, he blinked in surprise. This...wasn’t what he was expecting. Instead of being parked outside some building on the outskirts of town, the car was pulled into a small gap in between two large, looming buildings. There was no light coming from them, and only the faint, watery street lamp beams to illuminate anything. Why would Aneirin have driven here...?
After a moment’s hesitation, Jameson unlocked the car door and stepped out. He walked out onto the street, finding it lined with similar tall, wide buildings. Where was this place? Some sort of storage? Why wasn’t anything lit up? JJ shivered, reaching into his pocket to double-check that his cell phone was there. He should find Aneirin, make sure that he was okay.
He looked left down the street, saw nothing, and looked right. There was a group of three people standing beneath one of the weak street lights. With them being the only people in sight, JJ headed in their direction. Eventually, he started picking up voices.
“—kid’s been a runner for three years, cut him some slack.” An unfamiliar female voice.
“No one gets slack at all.” An unfamiliar male voice. “Not even us, Kelly.”
“Still, he does his job.”
“Yeah, that’s right.” And that...that was Aneirin’s voice. Though strangely, his accent, a bit Irish from the years he’d spent being a foster kid in that country, had thickened. “Just give me the green.”
Jameson ducked around a corner of a building, peering out at the group of three. A man, a woman, and Aneirin. He watched as Aneirin handed over a backpack, and the man handed him a case. What was this? It seemed...shady. Aneirin couldn’t really be involved in something like this, right?
The woman leaned closer to Aneirin, lowering her voice so it couldn’t be heard from where Jameson was watching. But judging from the way Aneirin tensed, whatever she was saying wasn’t good news. Aneirin responded in an equally low tone, and the man suddenly laughed. “You?! Tiny thing like you? Obvious blind spot and likely to collapse at any time? Nah, lad, we’ll go with the professionals.”
That was exactly the wrong thing to say. Aneirin bristled, and even from here Jameson could see the anger in his expression. “Easy there,” the woman said, her tone patronizing. “You wouldn’t want to fall down, would you?”
Aneirin lunged at her, and a scream rang out through the empty street. The woman stumbled back, turning enough so that Jameson could see the way her front was stained red. “You little—!” The man grabbed Aneirin by his jacket, and JJ couldn’t help but cry out.
He didn’t think it would be audible to the group, but both the man and Aneirin looked over toward him. JJ’s eyes widened, and he ducked behind the building. “Oh, you brought a friend, didn’t you, you little bastard?!” The man yelled. “Looks like you, too! Family field trip, is it?”
“Hey! Back off!” Aneirin snarled. It would’ve been intimidating, if not for the nervous crack in the middle.
“Oh no, I don’t think so!”
Jameson heard footsteps running towards him, and instantly took off, running down the gap between the buildings. But the man was much faster, and the footsteps grew louder. Jameson glanced over his shoulder, and the man was just a few feet away. He gasped, and pushed himself farther, turning onto another street, then running into another gap in an attempt to shake the man off.
“Don’t you run, you—AAARGK!”
The strange noise wasn’t enough to stop JJ from running. He continued to weave around the gaps in the buildings, until he arrived back at the one the car was parked in. He tore open the backseat door and practically threw himself inside, locking it behind him. He fell onto the floor of the car and stayed there, sitting, knees pulled to his chest and his heart pounding in his throat. His eyes were fixed on staring through the dirty glass of the car window.
A figure appeared there. Jameson made a strangled sort of sound, backing up. The figure knocked on the glass, then a flashlight turned on, shining into the car. Jameson blinked in the light, then squinted through it, recognizing Aneirin as the one holding the flashlight.
Aneirin pointed towards the driver’s side door, and disappeared, rounding around the car. The locks thunked, and Aneirin opened the door and climbed inside. “Jamie?” he called.
Jameson didn’t relax, but leaned forward, into the spot between the driver’s seat and the passenger seat.
“Oh my god!” Aneirin grabbed JJ’s head, one hand on either side, and pulled him even closer. “What were you thinking?! What are you even doing here?! Did you follow me? Why the fuck would you do that?! There’s a reason I don’t tell you what I do!”
Jameson was stunned into silence for a moment. He let Aneirin continue on in a similar vein for a while, then slowly signed, I was just curious.
“Curious?! I—” Aneirin leaned back, burying his face in his hands and taking a few deep breaths. “You can’t...do stuff like that, Jamie,” he said.
...I’m sorry, JJ signed hesitantly.
“It’s...fine, Jamie, just...just don’t do that again.” Aneirin sighed, looking out the windshield. “Who knows what could’ve happened to you?”
Jameson fell silent for a moment, then awkwardly climbed into the passenger seat, settling into it. What happened to the man? And the woman?
“They’re...dead,” Aneirin said slowly.
Did you kill them? Jameson asked, eyes wide and disbelieving.
“...yes,” Aneirin’s voice was barely audible.
Why?!
Aneirin opened the car door and leaned over outside, picking up something on the ground. He pulled the case from earlier into the car and threw it into the backseat. “Because we need money to live and shit, Jamie, that’s why. Someone offers you a lot, and all you need to do is...go back on your word, then you take it.”
JJ shook his head silently, shocked. Aneirin...have you done this before?
Aneirin shifted in his seat. “What, go to a regular drop-off then walk away with two people dead? No.”
Silence fell. Jameson dug into his pocket and pulled out his phone.
“What’re you doing?” Aneirin said, sitting up straight.
Calling 999, Jameson answered.
“Wh—no! You can’t do that!” Aneirin grabbed Jameson’s wrist, pulling it, and the phone he was holding, away. “Look, I know it looks bad, but there’s absolutely nothing to connect us to this. See? I’m wearing gloves, no fingerprints.”
Jameson stared at him, absolutely stunned. We can’t just let— he started to sign one-handedly.
“No, we have to. Jameson, if the police hear about this, they’re going to judge my place an unfit home, and me an unfit guardian, and they’re going to put you back in the system.” Aneirin tightened his grip on Jameson’s wrist. “I-I can’t let that happen! I can’t let you go back there! Who knows what’ll happen?!”
Jameson managed to pull his wrist away from Aneirin’s grip. They’re not going to put a seventeen-year-old into the foster system. I’m practically an adult.
“As someone who was recently seventeen, that’s debatable. And legally, you’re still a child. It doesn’t matter how close to eighteen you are, until your actual birthday, they’re not gonna let you go.” There was a strong bitter note in Aneirin’s voice. “I can’t...I’ve only had you back for a year, Jamie. After ten fucking years of wondering what happened to you. Please don’t...don’t leave.”
Jameson hesitated. Aneirin’s eyes were shining with a desperate light that could be seen even in the shadows the car was hiding in. And he had to admit, he didn’t want to leave his brother, either. He sighed gently, and put his cell phone down on the dashboard of the car. Alright, fine.
Aneirin practically wilted with relief. “Thank you so much, Jamie.” He twisted in his seat, starting the car. “I promise you won’t regret it.”
The car headed out, with Jameson and Aneirin sitting in silence. Jameson stared out the window, watching as they gradually traveled to a more well-lit part of the town. He expected them to head home. But instead, Aneirin headed to the town center, and parked outside a lit-up building. “Look,” he said, glancing in JJ’s direction. “I’m sorry about...the yelling, earlier. I was just stressed and worried. I’m sorry if I made you feel like I was angry with you.”
Jameson exhaled slowly. It’s okay, Aneirin.
“I’ll make it up to you,” Aneirin promised. “Look.” He nodded at the building they were parked outside.
Wait...JJ’s eyes widened. We’re going to Tompson’s?
“Yep.” Aneirin smiled. “Ice cream sounds good after tonight. Luckily they’re open late. You can get whatever you want, whatever size.”
Really? Anything? JJ asked doubtfully. Tompson’s was known for being relatively expensive, but also delicious. They usually saved it for special occasions.
“Of course. It’s on me.”
JJ looked back out the window. He started nodding, slowly at first, then faster. Well, alright then. Can’t do that in the car.
Aneirin laughed. “Course not. Hey, not even gonna say thank you?”
Jameson exhaled softly, and rolled his eyes. Aneirin was always like this. “Thhnk yu-yuh. Annn.” He could’ve signed it, but if Aneirin wanted that, he would’ve said ‘sign.’
“You’re welcome,” Aneirin smiled. “Now let’s go.”
The rest of the night was rather nice. Jameson almost forgot what had happened earlier. Almost. It turns out, these events would not be forgotten easily.
——————
...Jameson was startled out of his thoughts by the sound of his text alert going off. Jameson?? Are you oaky?? Whyd you hang up? Chase asked. It was quickly followed by a *okay
I’m fine, Chase, JJ replied. I just had to think for a moment.
Are you actually fine or just saying that?
Jameson thought hard about this question. I won’t lie. I’m a little...He paused, wanting to type out ‘scared,’ but that might be a bit too far. That was probably something he should talk over with his therapist on Monday; now was not the time to unload everything. ...shaken, hearing about this. But I’ll be okay, I promise.
Alright, if your sure, Chase said. But if you ever need anyone, Im right here.
Thank you, Chase.
The city bus finally pulled up to the station, and JJ hopped aboard, pressing his bus pass to the card reader before taking a seat. He stared out the window as the bus started rolling again. He couldn’t help but glance behind him, even knowing that nobody would be there.
——————
A few days passed, and Monday morning dawned cold and rainy. Dr. Laurens opened her umbrella as soon as she got off the bus, holding it with her unbroken arm. She sighed quietly. Well, looked like she had to walk to work today. And for a while, actually, until her arm was healed enough for her to drive again. She’d better get used to it.
A few drizzly moments later, Laurens stepped inside the main doors of Silver Hills. Awkwardly closing her umbrella, she walked up to the front desk. “Hi, I need to see Dr. Newson, is she in?”
The orderly at the desk looked up, and her eyes widened. “Oh my god, Rya?!”
“Hey, Theresa,” Laurens said, smiling tiredly. “Is Newson in?”
“Yes, I-I can page her—mother of god, what happened to you?” Theresa asked as she started messing with her pager. “You disappeared! Are you alright?”
‘Alright’? Well, that was debatable. The broken arm was not ‘alright,’ and Laurens was pretty sure there was a lot else that would not fit into ‘alright.’ But she’d waited this long. She’d spent time in the hospital, then practically begged to go home so she could get used to being on her own, without having to worry about threats to her life. But still, she couldn’t stop thinking about getting back to work. She knew Newson had taken over Schneep’s case, and she knew Newson hated him. How could she just stand by and leave this situation alone? So, if by ‘alright’ you meant ‘functional and willing to help others,’ then yes, she was alright. “I’m fine, thanks,” Laurens said. “Should I just wait for Newson here?”
“Uh...yeah, that would be great.”
Laurens took a seat in the reception area, looking around. It seemed a bit surreal to be back here after...everything with Anti and Jackie. Like she was last here years ago, instead of just a few months.
About five minutes later, footsteps came down the hall, and Laurens stood up as Newson appeared. Newson’s eyes immediately locked onto her, and she froze. “Wh—Rya?”
“Yes, it’s me,” Laurens stated.
Newson gaped at her, then rushed over to stand in front of her. “You’re okay! Oh my god, I—we were so worried!”
“Really?” Laurens asked, not bothering to hide the surprise in her voice. “I mean...from what I remembered, you were probably going to fire me—”
“No! I mean—I—” Newson stammered. “I didn’t want you to—look, I may have made a bit of a rushed judgement that day, and I...would hate for that to be the last thing I ever said to you. You truly are great at your job, a-and a great person as well. And I’m not going to fire you.”
“Great,” Laurens nodded. “In that case, can I take my patient back please?”
“Wh—” Newson seemed taken aback by the question stated so clearly. “I...mean...”
“Because I don’t believe that your methods work well with him,” Laurens said, voice and expression deadpan. “Unless something has changed in the two months I’ve been gone.”
“I...” Newson cleared her throat, collecting herself. “Of course you can take the case again. Do understand that I—hello, can I help you?”
Laurens turned around. A tall woman in a black raincoat had just entered the reception area, carrying a briefcase. “Actually, yes,” the woman said. “I’m looking for Dr. Jennifer Newson.”
“That would be me,” Newson said, patting down her coat and smiling cordially. “Do you need something?”
“Ah. My name is Aja Bakshi, I am from Henson & Singh At Law.” Bakshi set her briefcase on the reception desk, opening it up and slapping a piece of paper covered in type down on the surface. “My client wishes to sue you for malpractice, negligence, and abuse of power with your position. This is the notice, details are included on it, as well as my phone number.”
Newson was left speechless. She just stared at Bakshi, absolutely shocked, her wide-eyed gaping expression somewhat reminiscent of a fish. Laurens had to bite back a smile as the thought occurred to her. “Uh...” Newson finally said. “Who...who’s suing me?”
“Details are on the notice, Dr. Newson,” Bakshi said calmly. “We have scheduled a court hearing for the 23rd. We expect to see you there.” And with that, Bakshi snapped the briefcase closed, and turned on her heel and left, door swinging closed behind her.
“Uh...Dr. Newson, are you alright?” Theresa asked.
Newson didn’t answer, instead picking up the paper and scanning it over. “Maher...?” she muttered. “I know that name...”
“Well, I’ll leave you to that,” Dr. Laurens said. “For now, I’d like to see my patient. But I seem to have lost my keycard.”
Newson looked up sharply. “Uh...right. I’ll call Oliver Hopkins, he can take you to the room. Can you get a coat on with your arm like that? Dress code, and all. We have some in—”
“In the back room, I know,” Laurens said. “I’ll meet Oliver there, then.”
About ten minutes later, Laurens had made her way to the back room and pulled on a white coat over her cast before replacing her arm in her sling.
“...Doc?”
Laurens glanced over, watching as Oliver rounded the corner. She smiled. “Hello, Oliver. Your phone is poking out of your pocket, by the way. Be careful.”
Oliver laughed, and wiped his eyes. “Holy shit, you’re okay. I mean, your arm, but. You know.”
“I do know, thank you,” Laurens chuckled. She then sighed. “Anyway, I wanted to check on Schneep. I don’t think I’ll be able to start a session until tomorrow, after I get all the stuff sorted out for coming back, but I...just want to see if he’s alright.”
Oliver winced. “That’s a...that’s a good idea.”
Listening to his tone, Laurens was suddenly shot through with worry. Part of her had wondered if her concern was a bit strange, especially for a therapist-patient relationship, but that one sentence was proof she was justified. “Alright...let’s go down to his room, then.” Laurens turned and started down the hall.
“Uh, Doc?” Oliver called. “He’s not in his room. He’s in the quiet room.”
Laurens stopped, turning around to look at him. “...well,” she said. “Let’s get him out of there, then.”
“Yeah, uh. Good idea,” Oliver muttered. “I should probably tell you that he’s been in there a couple times, and he...doesn’t react well to it.”
“Of course he doesn’t,” Laurens muttered, already heading down the hall in the other direction. Honestly, they should just call the room what it actually was: solitary. She supposed it wasn’t a bad idea in principle; sometimes the more hostile patients needed a place to cool down where they couldn’t hurt anyone or themselves. But in situations like this, locking someone in a room alone did more harm than good. Especially now that she knew what had actually happened to Schneep in the nine months he disappeared.
The door to the quiet room looked identical to all the other rooms in the older wing of the hospital, with the only exception being that it didn’t have a room number. But once Oliver opened the door, it became clear what made this room so different. It was the only place in the entire building that had its walls padded, and there was no furniture inside except for a bedframe with a mattress but nothing else. Laurens stepped into the room, looking around. She quickly spotted the figure curled up on the floor in the corner. “Schneep?” She called softly.
Schneep had his arms wrapped around his head, but upon hearing his name, he flinched and moved them enough to see out at her.
“Hey, it’s me,” Laurens said, keeping her voice friendly. “Remember me?”
“Hm.” The small sound wasn’t a confirmation or a denial. Schneep’s eyes darted towards the doorway, with Oliver standing in it.
Laurens looked back towards the doorway as well. Get out of sight, she mouthed. Oliver looked hesitant, but stepped to the side, out of view. Laurens looked back towards Schneep, taking a few steps forward. “Schneep, I need you to answer me. Do you remember me?”
“...Jackie?” Schneep said, his voice hoarse.
“No, I’m not Jackie,” Laurens said. She took a few more steps forward, then got down to kneel on the floor. “You’re not with Jackie right now. You’re in the hospital, remember?”
This seemed to confused Schneep for a bit, but he loosened up, uncovering his head as he realized Laurens wasn’t a threat. “Hospital...” he muttered. “Which one?”
“Silver Hills,” Laurens said.
A short pause. “You are...not lying?” Immediately after asking the question, Schneep laughed. “You would say you are not, either way.”
“I wouldn’t lie about where you are, Schneep,” Laurens said quietly. “I wouldn’t trick you like that.” She paused for a moment, gauging Schneep’s reaction. “Do you need anything?”
“Do I...?” The question threw him off for a bit. “I...I do not want to be here. No, no. Not here.”
“Alright, then let’s go.” Laurens held out her hand, palm-up. Schneep flinched away for a moment, but then reached out and grabbed it. “We’re going to stand up now, okay?”
Schneep nodded, and Laurens unfolded herself from her kneeling position, awkwardly doing her best to stand up without using her arms. After a few moments of trying, she succeeded, and helped pull Schneep to his feet. He immediately stumbled, leaning against her. Laurens gasped slightly, noting the cloudy look in Schneep’s eyes and the way he was shaking a bit. There was no reason for him to be this heavily sedated. “How’re you feeling?” Laurens asked.
“Hmm...cotton,” Schneep said.
“I see. Can you walk?”
“I...I think so, yes.” Despite this assertion, when Laurens started to walk, Schneep only stumbled and almost fell.
“Whoa, take it easy,” Laurens said. “I’m going to call someone who can help, alright?”
“Al...yes.”
Laurens looked toward the doorway. Oliver had poked his head into view, making eye contact with her. She nodded, and he came into the room, silently lifting Schneep into a carrying position. Schneep didn’t protest. “We’re going back to your room, Schneep,” Laurens said. “Okay?”
Schneep paused. Then: “You are the doctor.”
“Yes, I am a doctor. So are you.”
“I know. I mean, you are...you stopped coming,” Schneep mumbled.
Laurens nodded. “Yes, but I didn’t want to. I would’ve kept coming if I could. But now I’m back.”
“Very good. Good that you are alright.” Schneep sighed. “Can we please leave here?”
“Yes, we’re leaving right now,” Laurens said. She started heading to the door, glancing back to make sure Oliver and Schneep were following her. They were.
She sighed gently. This was Newson’s fault, she knew it. But now, hopefully, they wouldn’t have to struggle with that for much longer.
——————
“Siri, what does GCS stand for?”
Jackie suddenly snapped to attention, almost hitting his head on the corner of the table. God, he hadn’t even heard Anti come into the room; he must’ve been buried deep in a daydream. Though, honestly, he couldn’t blame himself for that. It was much preferable to be in a daydream world than reality right now. In a daydream, he was able to forget about the cotton taste of the gag in his mouth, and the awkward angle his arms were handcuffed behind his back and around a table leg.
“Okay, I found this on the web,” said the robotic voice of Siri.
Anti was lounging on one of the apartment’s armchairs, dressed in an outfit that...wasn’t exactly his usual style. Jackie was oddly reminded of the way Chase dressed. Anti’s green glass eye had been replaced with a blue one, but he still had the old watch around his neck. “Three to five is good, then,” he muttered to himself. Anti glanced up, noticing Jackie staring at him. “Expecting something, hoodie man?”
Jackie flinched, and looked away, fixing his eyes on a water stain on the wall. He heard the sound of Anti shifting position, but didn’t look back.
Thwack!
A silver blade embedded itself in the wall inches from Jackie’s nose. Jackie cried out, flinging himself backwards and hitting his head against the table leg. Anti laughed. “God, you look like you just had a heart attack!” He paused. “Actually...Hey Siri, what do I do if someone has a heart attack?”
“Okay, I found this on the web.”
Jackie squeezed his eyes shut, trying to take deep, calm breaths. It was difficult, to say the least. Part of him wanted to shout at Anti, ask him what he wanted with him. The rest of him knew that would be a terrible idea, even if he could speak.
This wouldn’t last forever, would it? Something had to change. Or at least, that’s what he told himself.
