So here's Obito.

Obito is a half-elf who lived with his family for two decades, helping them. I imagine it as a small village with friendly people. Happy childhood with his parents . Average cottage life, a small sheep herd, garden and a bunch of pumpkins.

His parents ran away so they can be together. (I like half-Senju! Obito too much). Senju is a human clan and Uchiha are elves who hate each other. Boom. Drama.

One night, there was an attack on the village. It was Uchiha, a young elf, and Warlock. He killed Obito's parents (Itachi is a different story, and it's very raw, so bear with me). Obito manages to survive. He found refuge in the form of an old elf paladin who helped him. (Of course, it was Madara's setup)

He trained Obito. He became stronger and made an oath with God of Justice (Tyr if you wish, but I'm thinking do not mention any of the DnD canon names and Gods), so he became a Paladin of Devotion. He began to travel the world saving people and helping them.

But at one moment when he needed help the most, no one came to his aid. He began to contemplate the world and the gods. A moment in which an event occurs in direct opposition to Obito's oath and his God's domain. It's simple, but such a traumatic event can make one view the gods as selfish, callous, and inconsiderate of mortal affairs that do not affect themselves - which in turn leads to disillusionment with oath. As a result, he broke his oath because the gods did not like that he began to pry into their dark affairs. (Canonical hatred of the Shinobi system and rules dnd style and without Rin's sacrifice.)

I can imagine Obito becoming Oathbreaker because he wants to achieve justice but in his own, wrong way. He claims that God betrayed him. Obito is blinded by power and his hunger for it.

Obito returns to Madara and tells him about that. He is agitated by the disappearance of his power. Madara tells that he has to make a new pact to gain powers. Thus Obito was lured into making a pact with the goddess who now gives him power in exchange for his soul. Obito kills Madara. He's now an Oathbreaker Paladin and Warlock whose Patron is a moon Goddess herself. (I wanted it to be a Tharizdun, The Chained Mad God, but changed my opinion. Tho still sounds cool) So Obito was tricked into a pact.

Obito is traveling the world and destroying the Cults. He's 62 when he met Kakashi in the woods, running from an Owlbear. They fight together, but Obito gets hurt. They return to Kakashi's camp. A bit of talking and my writing.

"The gods betrayed me." Obito growled. "They betrayed us all. They claim to be benevolent, but all they care about is power, status, and their own selfish gains." Kakashi was surprised by the paladin's disdain for the gods. It wasn't often that he met someone who outright scorned the gods, especially a paladin. "I see," he said, continuing to tend to Obito's wounds. "You're quite the blasphemer."

So Kakashi is also trying to find a local cult. They decided to travel together. (There's a plot!)

Obito looked at Wizard with a steely gaze. "I no longer align myself with the gods, nor do I seek their favor. I have become an instrument of my own destiny, and I answer to no one but myself."

But Obito does not even suspect that Kakashi is looking for a cult not just to destroy it. But that's a story for another time.

and i'm sorry to bring up my dnd character once more BUT I LOVE HER SHE'S MY PRECIOUS DAUGHTER,,,,,, her name is roselle fayanna mistweaver and she's a proper little lady from a wealthy upper class family who was taught to be proper and good and skilled and quiet and happy all the time and- she's not that,,,,, her older sisters are good at everything and she's just... not. her parents weren't around much and she could feel their disappointment so much that she desperately looked for ways to prove herself,,,, and she found a dryad's magic and made a pact with her... elri gave her a way to make her drawings come to life with magic and roselle became a bard!!!!!! :D (not a warlock hehe. unless????) the magic is very weird and freaky though and sometimes weird shit happens. roselle ended up running away from home and she's now lost with an adventuring party in vampires and werewolves land. which SUCKS but!!!!! she can maybe find a way to be cool and useful for her new friends????? maybe????

and and and idk if this counts but my sona has lore??? sorta??????? i'm slowly building/revealing it on my mc server gkfjkg and i hope it's not lame but. i might show some of the stuff i put into the world here if anyone's interested? :O for now all you gotta know is that they're mostly moss. and they don't know many things. but they have a lot of robot friends... just not many... living ones... until the other ant cats arrived on the server!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WITBA for continuing a DND campaign as it was written?

I wrote my own campaign and my players and I are coming up on our last two sessions. I had the whole story written before even finding players, including a tragic death that's going to happen in the next session. Here's where it gets iffy.

One of my players, let's call her A, just had a close family member pass away in the past two weeks. We all told her to take as long as she needs before we started up again, fully expecting to be on a little hiatus. Today she texted the chat trying to get everyone's schedules to play soon.

On one hand, I'm excited to continue the finale but I have a very important character death happening in the next session. It's an npc that A personally has adopted and fallen in love with. The whole party loves this npc and have gotten into several fights to protect them. He's a big deal.

Now I'm worried that me killing off this character would be insensitive and crass considering the loss A just had, despite this having been written several months beforehand. I don't want to upset her further and make her think of it while trying to play and get away from reality.

So, WITBA for continuing the story as planned and kill off an important character?

Helloooo! First things first, I gotta say, I LOVE your writing! Anything you post I eat it up, even if the characters aren't my cup of tea you somehow make me a complete simp. Congratulations on your absolutely AMAZING work <3

Okok onto the real ask, tho! I was thinking gender neutral reader, with Sanji and Zoro? (Maybe Usopp if it tickles your fancy :)) Reader is like, very badass at first glance kicks ass easily and does it looking very cool. Leather jacket, maybe some cool tattoos and piercings, stuff like that.

But when they start getting to know them better they're like... A total dork??? A complete nerd??? They like roleplaying games like DnD, they know a bunch of animal and science facts for absolute no reason other then "it's fun to know about stuff :D" (also, fun fact, did you know there's a species of penguin that is like- 12 inches tall?? And they're blue???? They're called fairy penguins and I LOVE THEM-)

A/N: Eeeeek this was so cute and soft to think about!! As a fellow d&d nerd and just nerd in general this was really cute to write (I however, am not an intimidating badass, but I admire those who can pull it off)

Intimidating Nerd

Sanji

He finds your intimidating nature so hot. SOOOOO hot.

He’s always fawning over you and desperate to give you attention. You hardly pay him any mind, but that just fuels him even more. 

Sanji discovers pretty quickly that you’re not as intimidating as you appear (because he’s literally always watching you), but at first he doesn’t let on.

He does learn all about the topic you’re totally obsessed with, and uses that to win you over. 

Not the type to call you out or gloat that he knows, he just drops random hints about it at first. Little facts, and when he sees you perk up he knows he hit the jackpot.

After a few mentions of it, you finally cave, and just totally info dump on him while he’s baking. 

He just stirs the batter and hums along, only half understanding all of the things you say (he only learned enough to impress you) while you get louder and louder from excitement. 

But your excitement doesn’t phase him, in fact it makes him giddy. He’s thrilled to see such a vulnerable and different side of you that not many get to see. 

Zoro

Zoro is concerned at first that you’re all talk, but once you prove yourself in battle, he becomes pretty impressed with you. 

Impressed becomes adoration, due to the look you have and the flirtatious words exchanged between you all. 

He hears you occasionally speak about your special interest(s), and on island days he can usually find you in one of those weird stores he usually tries to avoid. 

After you leave one, he sneaks in and asks the guy what you were in there for. He explains that he’s a crewmate of yours and is trying to find you something nice, but has no idea where to start. 

He ends up picking out a cool piece of jewelry that has some hint towards whatever you love. That kind of merch that still looks cool, but fans know where it’s from. 

Luckily, the guy is super helpful, and even explains a little bit about the backstory of the item he picked out (all of which goes right over Zoro’s head).

He leaves it on your bed in the bunkhouse. He doesn’t really know what to say or how else to give it, and when you see it, you know it's from him immediately. He’s the only one who knows that you like that thing, and you instantly put it on. 

When he sees you again, he compliments the jewelry, to which you smirk and roll your eyes. “Thanks,” you say. “Some nerd got it for me.”

Usopp

He is so scared of you. Literally tenses when you walk in the room at first.

Yeah, you’re hot. But you could also definitely kill him in 5 seconds with your pinky. He’s seen you do it to stronger enemies in less time. 

He doesn’t even try that boasting thing with you. He tried it once and you just raised an eyebrow at him. He got so flustered that he immediately shut up. 

And then he brings up an old game he used to play, an old TV show he used to watch, an old comic book he used to read. And your entire demeanor changes. 

At first he thought you were making fun of him or trying to scare him, but he can see real enthusiasm about it in you. And you like…know your stuff. 

Suddenly you all are BEST. FRIENDS. You’re inseparable. You teach Luffy and anyone else who will listen about the lore. Most of it goes over Luffy’s head, but Robin, Franky, and even Sanji get a hold of the concept and become slightly interested. 

Every time you stop at an island, the two of you saunter off together trying to find new merch or new updates about it. 

Usopp loves having you around because he knows that you will always protect him and you can fight enough for two in battle, and you’re cool enough to always keep a conversation going with him.

HI HOWDY I have indeed been!!!!! The campaign I'm in is 3rd edition and it's been a really solid system, so that's the one I'd recommend! Exalted IS very different from something like dnd; it's a d10 system as opposed to d20, and you're gonna be rolling a LOTTTTT of dice most of the time, so what my group does (and what I'd recommend) is use a dice roller bot in discord for rolls. We also use a website called lot-casting atemi for our character sheets, combat, basically everything else LMAO cause it keeps everything organized really well! ALSO get ready for any combat that happens to take EONS to finish lol.

I don't have experience running it but I'd recommend reading the core books some, at least to get the gist of broad setting info and mechanics!!! Ultimately just like any system you can make whatever kind of setting you want, BUT the exalted one is VERY fleshed out while still being broad enough for you to make up your own original stuff to include if you want. You don't need to read EVERYTHING (I sure as hell haven't lmao) but definitely look over stuff that interests you or might be relevant to a character idea you have!!! Looking over what goes into a character sheet would be a good baseline for what to familiarize yourself with, especially if you're gonna be running!

My useless additional advice is find someone who's familiar with the system and setting and have them regurgitate important info to you so you get the broad idea of what's going on LMAO

So I've been workin a lil somethin. It started out as a DnD character backstory, but it kinda took on a life of its own. I now have over 20 pages of disjointed plot points, interactions, dialogue, and world building of what is essentially shaping up to be a short(?) story. I maybe wanna make a comic/webtoon type thing out of it?? I think that'd be really cool but its for sure no easy task. This is Reiss Fairgrey, also known as Grey. He starts off as just a guy trying to survive living in poverty in the slums of Port Tae'ul. Since he was 13 he's lived with his younger sister Launa, and 2 other boys who'd been on the streets; Yu (the absolute love of his life, their relationship is a big part of my story) and his kid brother Nao. Things haven't been good lately and he's desperate to find a way out of their situation, when he encounters a strange fey-like entity offering him a deal...

“You go search for a way to free this one's spirit from being bound to this place, and in return you may claim power to elevate your status and protect you and yours."

"Excellent," a wry smile curves upon the entity's lips, "then the deal is made." Suddenly Reiss is spitting up… blood? No, acid? Something. Something that burns as it bubbles up from within. He falls, bracing himself on the ground coughing up a large amount, but it keeps coming. He leans back on his heels and turns his head up towards the darkening sky, as though he could swallow it back like bile, but it remains relentless. It leaks from his mouth, traces down his neck in various streams, pools in the hollows of collarbones. When the liquid makes it to his chest, it begins to move of its own accord, toward the place over his heart. It traces along in a swirling pattern, forming a brand. When the design is complete a glow radiates from it and with this light a new agony tears through his chest. Reiss screams in distress but the substance filling his throat blocks the sound. His eyes roll back and Reiss collapses.  When he wakes, he can see the sun barely cresting the horizon. His stomach, throat, face, it all feels like hell. The ribbons of gore on his upper chest were sticky and steadily oozing blood. Tender, and fleshy, like when you prematurely rip off a scab. He was weak, and struggled to roll over and push himself up on his knees.  “Ohoho, you live?” the spirit mused. Reiss looked up, the entity had been waiting up on a branch in the tree, reclining against the trunk. The sight of them behaving nonchalant fills Reiss with indignation.  “Shit man what the hell?!” upon speaking Reiss gasps in pain, his voice is hoarse. Usable, but his throat is undoubtedly damaged. “You didn’t mention this in your fucking deal!” he chokes out.  “A small price to pay little slum-dweller. With that brand, you’ll be able to cast magic you’d never be able to otherwise.”  “Fuck you dude, you coulda at least warned me! Ugh, hrk!” “Now now, calm yourself, this one does not care for your howling and your injuries probably care for it even less.” “What was the damn point of this?!” The spirit rolled their eyes, “Hmph, this one does not like repeating things, so listen this time. The mark is a crucial part of our agreement, it acts as a medium. Through it, you will be given magic capabilities.” “Like, already?”  “That’s right! And you’ll only grow more powerful as time goes on.” The spirit dissipates into a mist then re-materializes to crouch beside him, and Reiss falls back, startled. The spirit reaches out and grabs him by the arm, hauling him to his feet.  “Come now, give it a try will you?” The entity clasps its hands together in excitement. “Focus on something in the distance and gather energy in your palm. then, imagine it shooting forth towards your taget. This spell is called Eldritch Blast and it will prove to be one of your most useful abilities.”  “Whaddya mean by gather energy? I just gotta put my hand out like this?” He jests, but by focusing even a little, a ball of magic forms and blasts forward into the woods striking a tree in the distance. He can see even from here, it’s not enough to take the tree down but he’d clearly carved a mass out of the trunk. “Woah…”  “Wow, I’m actually quite surprised, little slum-dweller! You have a more natural inclination for this than the previous contractee.”  “Quit calling me slum-dweller.”  “Hmm fine, little Fairgrey.”  “I didn’t tell you…how do you know my name?”  “This one knew, before you even stepped on this hill, who you were little Fairgrey.” That’s… suspicious, Reiss thought. But then, maybe it's magic? I don’t know what kind of powers they have… “Can we drop the “little” part?”  “Afraid not, that would be rather confusing for this one."

If you'd like to infodump about Valerie she's been on my mind 👀

Yeah for sure!

I made Valerie back in like 2019. She's basically a witch that escaped a strict puritan-like town so she could study magic and continue her parents research on immortality. During her studies and research, she summoned a demon (named Jasper/Jazz), fell in love with him, and eventually became a demon herself.

In 2020, our previous dnd group started a gothic horror campaign called Curse of Strahd, and I decided to turn her into a dnd character so I could play her! She's a Hexblade Warlock who has pretty much the same backstory, with some minor differences. She makes a pact with an entity that tells her where she can find immortality, and she goes out to travel and find it (and ends up being stuck in Barovia).

She meets the other party members, travels with them, does some adventuring, etc etc dnd stuff. Our campaign didn't finish unfortunately and we left off at the Amber Temple (fucked up ancient place with dark powers), the place where she would've found her patron and talked about how she would be able to earn the immortality she sought out.

A few years ago our current DM (who was a player in our previous game) started a new CoS game and decided to take a few of the previous party members and make them NPCS in our current game. In this version, Valerie and her previous group were at the Amber Temple and something happened (which may or may not have been her fault?) that caused all of them to split. Since Valerie's whole thing was to be at the Amber Temple that's where she resided and slowly went mad over time, forgetting what happened and why she went there in the first place.

Our current party went there a while ago and we found her there. She basically just hosted bingo nights for the creatures that lived there lol. After some exploring and some combat, she decided to follow us so she could try and clear her mind a bit. So now my DM and I take turns playing her as she's with the party lol.

Other facts and info (that I can think of rn lol):

Likes magic (especially dark magic), ancient knowledge, and anything spooky and forbidden. Typical witch stuff.

She magically dyes her hair purple (her favorite color). Her natural hair color is black. 

Favorite animal: bats.

In our first playthrough, Valerie got to eldritch blast and smack Strahd in the face. In both campaigns, she is an enemy of Strahd.

Bffs with Escher. Hasn't seen him in forever though and totally wants to have a night on the town with him at some point lol.

In our first playthrough, Valerie got to rip out the soul of the werewolf boss we were fighting and turned it into a specter that obeyed her commands for a short amount of time. Hoping to use this feature again in our current game lol.

Definitely wants to hangout with the Abbot again. I need to see their deranged energies together lol.

In our current game, she was a temporary "caretaker" of Neferon at the Amber Temple. Would always carry hard candies to get him to cooperate.

In our current game, while the party was fighting Baba Lysaga, Valerie went off to the village of Barovia to do her own thing. Went shopping and slept with Ismark while the party was dying lol.

Banned from Castle Ravenloft, Krezk, and Vallaki due to shenanigans with previous party.

She so badly wants to find her previous party members. We met one so far, a deranged and wild gnome (named Briz) that lives in the forest, but she hasn't seen him yet.

I'll start with mine

Bits about these fellas [and lady] below

Arogos:

my first ever dnd character. He's a chaotic neutral rogue thief wood elf who can't read/write and also only speaks common [much to the confusion of every elf he comes across]. He's a klepto, often having random and unuseful thing like wooden spoons, any coins he can find, buttons, you name it. If he finds it he will pocket it. Of the party he was the tank believe it or not.

We only had 3 members of the party Xanth [16 year old wizard] Danric Phantom [33 year old half ghost] and Arogos [123 year old rogue]. The group was chaotic from the very start. One of the first sessions I was in we blew up and entire cities sewer system trying to get 10 gold from some kobalds. That alone should tel you all you need to know about these boys.

Lilith

Lilith is/was my only female dnd character. I wanted to try out something different so lady it was. She was also my only lawful good character. She is a ranger in 5e legacy which was quite the struggle and a beast master on top of that with out a summonable beast. I managed to find a single wolf that I be friended [which took multiple session but it was also the dms first time dming so they didn't know how to go about it] and then the wolf died literally a few sessions later which was extremely disheartening. You know cause my subclass was basically worthless with out an animal companion. The dm did let me pretty much switch the subclass but still with playing as a ranger it is currently my least favorite class. At least the campaigns I've played were not very ranger friendly.

But anyways back to Lilith herself. She was 100% the mom and moral compass of the group. She always did her best to do the morally right thing while the other 5 were a form of neutral and one of them was actually evil [did not betray the party] and him and her more or less adopted a super powered necromancer frog girl. At the end of the campaign she went to one of the colleges and taught as an archery teacher.

Darude Sandstorm

Yes his name is a meme and his design is straight up just liquid snake from metal gear solid. Darude is a wind genasi barbarian born from earth genasi parents in more or less the earth kingdom. [In this campaign it was 4 large islands that have the 4 elements] because of his weird situation he is basically a sand man. In stead of sweating like a human he sweats sand. Later when he got the earth elemental power he just straight up went sand bender. This campaign was incredibly short more due to a disagreement between players [there were only 4ish for this group] so he didn't get much play time or story. He's more or less an apathetic man who was to lead an army and that's about it. Oh yeah this was also an evil campaign so we were supposed to be playing the bad guys.

Baltimore Reeves

Baltimore was named so because you can't tell me it doesn't also sound like a fantasy name. Anyways he is a 16 year old con artist wizard and a greaser. [His design was directly inspired by black and white photos of greasers] his best friend was also the rich boy of the group whos name is Chad. Balt is also one of my chaotic characters [chaotic is my favorite alignment to play I can't help it] fun quirks about Baltimore is he's a cold tielfing so he does cold damage for hellish rebuke and he can't cast fire spells with out throwing up [no fire ball] and also was not proficient in arcana and did not know magic missiles. At the end of the campaign he knew 84 spells [cantrips counted in the total] of mostly illusions, utility, cold or thunder damage spells and a few healing ones too. I also got the dm to let Baltimore polymorph into a young dragon

Alistair Varis

Also but not least my current dnd character Alistair. He's a drow valor bard who has flirting with 1 man and they are dating. Since I like going against class stereotypes he's more or less demi sexual [originally ace but then his current bf appeared who was not supposed to be a love interest by the way] so he never flirted or tried to seduce anything. He is definitely the most chaotic in the group but at the same time of the party I was the only one who wasn't new to the game. Alistair craziness definitely helped them get out of their shell a bit too. Anyways when joining the party I joined specially to be their healer [wasn't asked to but I like being a healer in video games] and a utility guy. Alistair definetly tries to topple most governments he encounters by outing corruption. He's done it twice so far and will again given the chance.

Ordering Process:

Shoot me a DM or Ask about commissions. We can discuss what you're interested in getting and come to a conclusion on how to quote. Once we have a quote decided on I'll send a paypal invoice or a kofi item sale listing (I haven't used it yet so I'm excited to try it out), and I'll get started then. I will not start drawing until I have received at least half payment. Turn around time is about 2-7 days give or take how busy I am with work/if the queue is backed up.

Character References:

I do require some form of visual reference for characters, specifically for designing a character. I will accept Picrew mockups, stick figure poses, and pinterest boards as valid references. I will not accept AI generated references. (Not even on any moral ground but just because they're usually way too complicated and nonsensical)

Things I Won't Draw:

NS/FW is on a case by case basis. Some things squick me so I won't draw them, others are fine. I'm okay with most things but please ask first and do not assume an automatic yes.

Furries/Mechas just because I can't guarantee the quality.

Genderbends that are binary-to-binary. I find them reductive and hurtful. (Trans characters are a-okay obviously, I myself am trans)

Group shots of More Than Three characters (up to three is fine), I just don't have the mental fortitude for that many characters interacting. Ordering a bulk order of say, chibis or something is a different matter and is entirely up to discretion.

H*zbin H*tel anything. I'm sorry but they're so fucking ugly.

What would each CC characters podcasts be about

THE QUESTION EVER!!!!!! I have developed this au so far and I love talking about it. I am going to put a cut after the background info because im going to be so annoying

So, for background, they all work for a little podcast network known in my heart as 'Bogs Hollow FM' (BHFM) <3. It was founded by Ragweed and The Narrator (David)* after their podcast was so successful that they could afford to not only expand their podcast but acquire others and fund some new ones!

*Note: I know that this mixes the two layers of fiction that we are given in CC. I know that the Narrator and Ragweed don't actually know the main characters. I know the characters are played by The Players. I know the story in CC is mostly fiction. This is just me having fun <3 Im just saying this because I would argue with myself over this.

but anyway!!! talk about the podcasts below the cut because this shit is LONG (i know you didnt ask for all the lore but i like talking)

Starting with the one that started it all, Ragweed and David have a weekly podcast called The Woodblock (this is one of the few names I'm sure of). It is just general news/guys talking. It got popular fast and good on them. It's become a huge production and most of the audience just shitposts about how they seemingly get divorced every episode. Ragweed's real name isn't Ragweed, but he refuses to tell anyone what his real name is.

Then, when The Woodblock became so successful, and they started BHFM, they acquired 3 other podcasts that were already successful in their own right and gave them increased funding.

First, The Prince (Nicholas) has a podcast which is essentially a painful rehash of alpha-male podcasts. But it did not find it's intended audience... Now it's essentially got the worlds queerest audience that just makes fun of him, but he does not notice. People assume it's a parody. It was originally just him, until he bullied Tadius into being his cohost but that's a story for another day

Then, Ella has an audience helpline podcast where she just answers questions and does general self-help/wellbeing content. We love a girl working through her trauma and helping others at the same time. She doesn't have a cohost but occasionally invites Lucy and Justine on, but they don't take things seriously enough. It is her sanctuary, and she wants to keep it as just hers. The last podcast they acquired was The Stepmother's podcast which is just an aggressive drama podcast, tragically the only way I can explain the energy is Frenemies meets Drama Alert, and I hope that gives you an idea of how horrific the energy is. Putrice and Rancilda are frequently their as well.

But when they acquired those 3, they also got handed some spin-off podcasts (which i dont have much to say about):

Rancilda has a daily riddles podcast that she is "hiding" from her stepmother (she isn't, its call "ranciriddles"). She has an audience suggested riddle every week.

Putrice has a more lowkey gossip podcast because she wants to be just like her mother but its way less toxic and tbh it's a good time.

Lucy and Justine have like a fun little sleepover style podcast, they just play games and talk and have a good time. They once did a whole episode reading fanfic about The Prince and Tadius just to fuck with them.

Crumb and Sir Hop-a-Lot (real names Chris and Harold <3) have a motivational/workout podcast, they are just the world's most chaotic duo, no one really understands what their podcast is trying to be.

The Fairy Queen has a daily affirmations podcast that she films at 3am. No one knows her real name. No one knows who she is.

and then lastly, they have a group dnd podcast run by David with the exact plot to Cinderella's Castle. It's a mess.

and that's a basic rundown of all the podcasts. There has been a lot of drama between them all including the aforementioned fanfic beef, the several times Tadius has been locked in a storage cupboard and why the Fairy Queen records at 3am but that's a post for another day.

WIBTA for cancelling my DnD game, and then trying to start a different one?

so I'm DMing a DnD game, and I have four players: I'll call them Rob, Brandon, Gabrielle, and Trudy.

As we played, I realized that - while I like Rob, Brandon, and Trudy as friends - I dislike how they play DnD. Rob and Trudy are extremely detached from the game and rarely interact, and when they do it's superficially or they question the realistic-ness of the lore or the reactions of NPCs. Brandon treats the entire thing as a joke, making joke characters and trying to force "funny moments" into serious situations; this goes really against the overall tone and intentions for the game, which I established with him early on, and during character creation he assured me he wouldn't act this way. I've had discussions with them about their playing and requested that they rectify these behaviors, but they have not stopped.

In contrast, I like how Gabrielle plays DnD, but have come to dislike her as a person and no longer wish to be around her. I don't want to get into the details, because it's very specific and I don't necessarily believe it's very relevant to this particular inquiry. But I don't want to be around her any longer.

However, even if I kick out Gabrielle and find another person, just one good player will still not make the game fun for me to play due to the other players' actions. It makes DMing this campaign not fun for me.

I still do want to DM this campaign, though - just not for these players. I'm thinking of telling a part-truth, part-white-lie to them. I'm thinking of telling them that the pressure and responsibility of DMing this campaign for them is too much for me and I will be stepping down. But... Then I also want to post an advertisement on a Reddit forum looking for a new group.

They all know my Reddit username, though, and admit to occasionally browsing the forum I want to post in. Also they will likely recognize if I post the same advertisement looking for players (I worked hard on that post and I like it though...).

WIBTA for ending the DnD game I'm currently running and then advertising that I'm looking to run a new one?
