Alright, I've made a decision.

For a while now — several months or so — I've been collecting really old posts of Johnlock and Sherlock content from the early 2010's, back when the show was still running and at it's peak. It's been great fun, but I've noticed that so many of the blogs are deleted or have been inactive for years. I was only able to find the beautiful old fan art, fan edits, first few metas/fan theories, and Setlock gifs or pictures from the time via crawling through long reblog chains. They were sadly quite hard to find, but very much worth it as I feel they are an important part of our fandom's history. I don't want them to be lost to time in the ever expanding Tumblrverse, and I fear that may genuinely happen because half of this old content is very poorly tagged! Making it even harder to find!

So I've decided to become a bit of an archive of sorts. From now on I'll be rebloging these seemingly forgotten fan creations with proper tags to bring them back to light, and hopefully thus less likely to disappear or become unheard of for newer fans. I'll try not to spam post too much, but I hope all my fellow Sherlockians will enjoy the time capsule.

First of all as a disclaimer, I am really not familiar at all with League of Legends lore and this was really based on what information I could gather on the Arcane version of the universe! It's inspired by both official and unofficial sources I found online, what we see in the show, and my own headcanons, so please don't take it as any sort of authority, I wanted to have a comprehensive map to use as a resource and thought other writers might like it too :,)

Also I'm aware that the quality gets nuked upon upload and it may be difficult to read. The different region names will be listed below a read-more in orders of up-down left-right for each level, and the locations corresponding with the numbers will also be typed out below a read more.

All sfth youtube videos have been subtitled in English by the amazing subtitle team, as well as many other languages too!! The people who have done them are credited in the video descriptions. Patreon subtitles are being worked on, currently all the Patreon improvised plays are subtitled and some of the fringe shows :)

Unfortunately some sfth videos (especially on tiktok) have been stolen and uploaded as an attempt to impersonate sfth’s account. Please try to report these accounts!! Sfth are verified now, so it’s easier to see which is the real them.

Obviously there’s no rules on tumblr but as a general courtesy to the guys, consider keeping in mind:

Sometimes little bits of fandom history get lost, and sometimes lovely people digitise them for us!

This is a short, 35 minute long cassette with an "abridged" reading of Dragonsong and Dragonsinger from Anne McCaffrey (a summary more than anything) featuring both Anne's songs, and songs written by Joanne Forman. Performed by Kathleen Kingslight, (soprano and alto flute), John Kingslight (guitar, guitar arrangements and special vocal arrangements) and Anne Eisfeller (harp).

I'm not from US but i've noticed what has been going on in the last few days, especially when it comes to adult/kink stuff and it is very worrying. I don't know how much effect that will have on me but I do know it will affect most people in fandom one way or another and I think it's important to know what to do if the worst happens.

I have some resources (fandom-oriented but could still be used by non-fandom people for general interaction on the web) for anyone who'd still like to be on the internet without being cencored.

Fandom resources for personal websites by aroceu

Note: if you're into l0lis0 like i partially am, the only host I know that doesn't have an issue with it is neocities, the rest do not allow it. If you want to be 100% free to post what you want this is your best bet for free hosts (I cannot speak for paid ones since I don't have the ability to use them)

Dreamwidth - for fannish activities and no censorship in what you can post and talk about. Note that image hosting is not the best so you will need to find an image host if you want to post them. Possible to get a membership to support the site and some small perks like more icon slots and community slots (for ones made by you, not for how many you can join).

Archive of our own - Place to post and archive your fanworks. Donation-driven and has an amazing tagging system so you can avoid things you don't like easily.

For the time being, none of these should be affected by card payment companies as they're donation-driven but if US law changes, that can become an issue.

Other things that can be useful:

When it comes to image hosting, catbox is known as a free SFW one that a lot of people use (though nut 100% stable all the time). Another one is file garden. I don't know the nsfw policy on that one, though. Poipiku is known and used a lot by JP artists for NSFW art, so for now it's a decent way of archiving it. If you're using a personal site though, it's good to host it there.

Mastodon is decent if you want the feel of decentralised social media, but finding the right server is an important thing. for absolutely no censorship on anything, braag and aethy are your only options when it comes to English-speaking ones. Note that braag is for artists only, but aethy is accessible for everyone as long as the sign up option is there. They open and close from time to time so you might not be able to make an account whenever you want.

Tips for a successful partnership

1. Be specific about the types of feedback you about the types of feedback you are looking to give/receive. Ex: Grammer, sentence structure, plotting, etc.

2. Be upfront about the time commitment for your project and expectations for turnaround.

3. Make sure the content is a good fit for all parties.

4. Make your beta, your ride or die for your final edit. Too many cooks in the kitchen can ruin the recipe.

5. Don't forget to credit.

6. Like most relationships, communication is key.

7. Be thick skinned and utilmatley remember this your story. Beta's remember writers can be deeply sensitive creatures. But remember, honest feedback is the most valuable. 2 way street with this one.

8. Make sure you've edited your chapter as best you can before handing it to your beta. Be respectful of their time.

On Kudos, Comments, & Community

(also featuring resources!)

I think there are some basic principles most fannish folk will agree on:

fen share their fanworks for community and interaction

comments are a better way of building community than simply leaving kudos

kudos are a useful low-spoon way to indicate appreciation and positively affect the number of potential future readers

longer, more personalized comments are a better way of building community than very short and generalized comments such as 'thanks for sharing!'

longer, more personalized comments take more time and energy than shorter comments

shorter comments take more time and energy than simply leaving kudos, albeit not by much [n.b. whether this difference is significant is going to depend very much on how many spoons you have to start with!]

more advanced principles that different fannish folk disagree on:

very short and generalized comments such as 'thanks for sharing!' are a better way of building community than simply leaving kudos

very short and generalized comments such as 'thanks for sharing!' feel impersonal and are not helpful for building community

comments consisting entirely of emojis are a cute/fun way of indicating a more personalized level of enjoyment

comments consisting entirely of emojis are disappointing and demoralizing [yes I've seen at least one author beg readers to not do this as they find it so upsetting; no this is not a widespread take]

comments consisting entirely of 'kudos' 'kudos+' 'additional kudos' or similar are a cute/fun way of indicating a reader is re-reading or still reading and enjoying a work

[probably some people also feel weird about additional kudos comments but I haven't actually seen complaints so I'm mentioning it but not listing it as such]

some commonly noted barriers to commenting:

lack of spoons/energy

anxiety over getting a good grade in comment

anxiety over possibly getting a response back

anxiety over possibly not getting a response back

difficulty verbalizing thoughts

difficulty translating thoughts

multi-step process of getting back to the fic url, as the reader downloaded the fic for offline reading

just don't think about it/not in the habit

The best way to get more community interaction between writers and readers, imo, is always going to be minimizing those barriers. Framing it as a requirement of reciprocation has some elements of truth to it, for sure! but I've found that once you start talking about it like an expectation, you get pushback from people who have a knee-jerk reaction to any sort of command, and induce guilt and anxiety paralysis in people who would like to comment but aren't capable of doing so on a regular basis.

So! What can we as readers, writers, and fans in general, do to lower these barriers and improve the quantity and quality of community interaction?

@longlivefeedback is a blog dedicated to discussing just that! Their LLF Comment Project is a really cool initiative for authors that lets them make very clear what kinds of comments/feedback they like and (if applicable) what they dislike. It also as a template suggests authors may want to include a statement about their general policies about responding to comments.

They also have an interactive tool for readers meant to help users learn to comment and lower barriers such as anxiety, mobility, fluency, etc. - the LLF Comment Builder.

There are also a bunch of userscripts various fans have created that make it easier to leave comments! Check out the full set of userscripts I've collected on GreasyFork here:Fandom-Relevant [Archive of Our Own]: For Readers.

A userscript I personally highly recommend is the AO3 automatic rekudos converter - if you've previously left kudos on a fic, and hit kudos again, it converts the button to a question Rekudos? which (when clicked) will randomly generate a comment from a pre-approved list of comments. The script author already included a basic list such as 'kudos+' 'additional kudos'; I personally added some fun ones such as 'but what about SECOND kudos?' and 'a fic so nice, i kudosed it twice!'.

The reason I so highly recommend this one is because I a) read a lot of WIPs and b) re-read fics so often - this lets me very quickly let people know I've re-read their fic yet again or am continuing to read their ongoing saga!

I've found over time as I have more and more strictly followed a policy of rekudosing any fic I've already kudosed, I've actually found it easier to leave free-form ad hoc comments as well! YMMV there, of course.
