Mr. Fenton is a competent teacher. Almost too competent.
If Mr. Daniel Fenton had any more than a BS (with a minor in education), Tim would’ve flagged his profile as a potential Rogue. That’s the way of most charismatic academics, at least in Gotham. (Got a PhD? Instant watchlist.) Instead, he’s Gotham Academy’s newest celebrity, as a young, passionate, out-of-towner substitute while the chemistry teacher’s on maternity leave.
Tim gets the hype. Fenton seems to genuinely love teaching, and is invested in the welfare of the student body. He hands out bananas during exam week, hosts a “study habits seminar” each month to coach effective learning strategies, and the third time Tim falls asleep in his class, he even pulls Tim aside to ask if he’s doing okay. With all the late work he accepts and the protein bars he sneaks Tim, he’s every teen vigilante’s dream teacher. He could’ve been Tim’s favorite.
In fact, Mr. Fenton was Tim’s favorite. Up until Tim walks into Mr. Fenton’s chemistry classroom for a forgotten textbook, an hour after the final bell.
On the board where tallied scores for today’s review game had been kept, “THE CHEMISTRY BEHIND DR. CRANE’S FEAR GAS: ANXIOGENICS, NERI’S, & YOU,” is now scrawled. A detailed diagram of the human endocrine system projects in front of a small crowd of adoring and attentive students.
Fenton is wrist-deep in the skull cavity of an anatomical model. A short tug, and out pops the brain.
It’s plastic. It’s fake.
Tim identifies the nearest emergency exit.
Fenton turns to the door, and in the dark classroom with the projector illuminating half his face, his eyes almost seem to flash red. “What’s up, Tim?” he asks. His friendly grin is too big for his face. “I didn’t know you wanted to join the Just Science League!”
[OR: Danny’s a science teacher at Tim’s school. Gotham’s a pretty wild place, even for someone who grew up a superhero in a ghost-infested town, so he takes it upon himself to start a club teaching kids how to manage themselves in the event of a crisis. These Gothamites are pretty hardy, but a little extra training never hurt anybody! And he suspects one of his students might be a teen vigilante, like he’d been, back in the day. As a senior super, it's Danny’s duty look out for him! Surely, this is the subtlest and most appropriate way to give the kid pointers.]
[Tim immediately assumes supervillain.]

Fig's line "I don't think I'm an artist, I think I'm just a good friend" has not left my head at all. Just...
You're Fig Faeth and your horns came in over the summer and you pick up the bard class as a form of adolescent rock 'n' roll rebellion, and it works! It's exactly the outlet you need! You give a guy you just met drumsticks and you start a band and it's good enough that within a year and a half you're touring. You are, in every sense, good at being a bard.
And then, finally, your junior year, you start to take it seriously. Your art goes from an outlet and a form of rebellion to a practice. A discipline. (Can rebellion exist within a discipline?) Your classmates know what they want to do with their work. They all have a thesis statement. And yeah, there's cohesion in the music you make, but you've never had to think about why you make it. You've never sat down and dissected what it is about bass that speaks to you. You've never poured over your lyrics to pick at any deeper meaning. Why should you? You don't play music for a grand design, you do it to... huh, why do you do it?
(Your art is the one form of self-expression that feels as safe as Disguise Self does, because even if you're pouring your heart onto the page and then screaming it in front of thousands of people, it's not like you're really making yourself known. You can sing I'm lonely, I'm scared, I'm furious, and your fans will sing it right back, and there will still be the distance between performer and audience to keep your heart safe.)
Now you're being asked to look inward to explain the artistic choices you're making, and you can't help but recoil at that, because you'd rather do anything than look inward. Meanwhile, your classmates have no problem with it, so you start to wonder if you're a real artist at all. Can your art be authentic if it only exists to bolster a thesis statement? Has your art been unauthentic this whole time because you've never really thought about a thesis statement before? Is that what makes it art, and not just the next track on somebody's teen angst playlist?
You can't think about yourself— acknowledging your own existence makes you want to puke. So if your music is an extension of yourself, (and it is, even if it's just because the spotlight reveals only what you want it to,) you can't think about your music. You can't. You have to. Your grade depends on it.
You're Fig Faeth, and you keep multiclassing because you'd rather be a good friend than a great artist. If introspection is what great art demands, then fuck it. You must not be a bard at all.

thinking about todd and his resolve toward… not quite isolation, but being alone in a room full of people again. he goes along to the study room to sit on his own and do his homework, he sits at the poets table and follows along with what’s being said while keeping quiet, he goes to the meetings at all but doesn’t necessarily contribute (in fact, if you watch him when cameron is telling the story ‘from camp in sixth grade’, you can see that he recognizes it before any of the other poets but doesn’t voice it until they all have). he’s not alone, necessarily, if you want to get technical about it, he’s just lonely, and he’s generally okay with that. he doesn’t have friends and that’s fine, he doesn’t participate in class and that’s fine, he doesn’t have a relationship with his family and that’s fine—he could live without any real connection and he’d have been, more or less, fine.
the thing about when he says “i can take care of myself just fine!” is that he isn’t really wrong, you can infer that he’s been doing it his entire life anyway, it’s that ‘taking care of yourself’ isn’t the same thing as really living or being happy. todd’s an introvert, certainly, and even as he gets closer to the group he defaults to sitting quietly in the background, but he’s also denying himself community out of fear not introversion. todd isn’t friendless because he’s an introvert, although that definitely plays a part, he’s friendless because he pushes anyone that might want his company away. if anyone has every wanted for his attention in the first place. (neil’s unwavering interest in him is unique (even when it comes to the rest of the poets, who are fine with todd coming along and joining the group, but aren’t really hellbent on him being there in the beginning) and his refusal to accept it is a direct result of being so lonely growing up.)
there’s obviously something to be said about the implications of his parents neglect, and the more than likely fact that he grew up friendless, and how those both play a part in in him being so skilled at dodging social interaction/being so avoidant of it, but by the time we see him in the movie he’s all but accepted his fate as being alone his entire life. he’s already accepted being the family disappointment, and he’s already accepted he’ll never amount to anything, and he obviously doesn’t like it, but he’d have managed living with that knowledge without the confirmation that it was all wrong. would he have been miserable? almost certainly. but he’d have managed. he’d done it for that long already, anyhow.

sci-fi au where sukuna is some kind of eldritch horror that evolved to devour worlds, spreading in the form of spores to create chaos and eat everything in his path. all of his spores are a part of him and are controlled by him, but one of the spores gets cut off from the rest and evolves on its own. when it's found by the sorcerers warring with sukuna, it's taken and injected into the body of the only human who's ever survived the devouring of his world and makes him a vessel capable of "cleansing" all the other spores and storing the entirety of sukuna within himself.
raised to hunt down and consume the parts of sukuna that are spread out across the universe, the half-breed yuuji is spawned again and again over thousands of years, his sole purpose to devour the whole of sukuna. but when he finally confronts the monster himself and yuuji is forced to take sukuna inside of him, he learns he's fated to keep sukuna locked away in his body for all of eternity as sukuna still has spores hidden away that the sorcerers and yuuji cannot find.
overtime, as each new respawned version of yuuji is kept isolated by a clan of sorcerers who must constantly keep him "cleansed," yuuji grows more and more desperate to break free and create a life for himself. though he can keep sukuna controlled and subdued inside of him, the cursed monster is slowly gaining more power over the years and rising to the surface. the only way to fully destroy him is to escape the sorcerers and force sukuna to take him to every single concealed spore left and kill them all.
when yuuji runs away with sukuna inside of him, he's hunted down by both the sorcerers and sukuna's allies, forced on a journey alone with only sukuna to keep him company. but as they travel together, yuuji finds his hatred for sukuna growing into something more like pity or even empathy, as the monster has never experienced anything other than killing and feeding, has never known to do anything but destroy, just like yuuji was raised to do.
the more yuuji tries to understand the unknowable horror inside of him and the closer their souls get, yuuji wonders if he actually wants to kill sukuna after all. yuuji has been alone his entire life and maybe that's the single reason why he can't bring himself to kill the only thing that has ever been so close to him for thousands of years. even the thought of living without sukuna's mocking voice in his head, being surrounded by strangers who don't understand just how deep yuuji's abnormality and resentment can go, makes yuuji question his feelings for sukuna.
it's clear that sukuna has ruined yuuji's life and billions of others', and while the monster may be the very antithesis of life, the devourer of worlds, yuuji can't help feeling that all life has value, even sukuna's. even if yuuji cannot change sukuna's inherent nature, isn't there still a way they can coexist?

Once there was a Lovley forest called Leafcottage. There lived cute animals that loved to climb and run aroud. One day, the animals and the birds came together for a great festival. There was a Owl there called Hoot Hoot. He Was at the candfloss stand. He just Can't resist the rainbow flavour. While he was about to sit down, A wasp called Rocko Was flying side to side on his chair. When Hoot Hoot was sitting down, He felt something.
"OOOOOOOCCCCCHHH!" Hoot Hoot shouted. Hoot Hoot jumped up so high he nearly went to space. "What's the raket!?" Glowie said. "Glowie, a million Pardons," Said Hoot Hoot. "But I did'nt toot," Glowie replied in a truthful way. "I don't mean that" Hoot Hoot said. (I forgot, Glowie is a Glow Worm). "What's the Big Bum!" Shouted Rocko. That nearly Made Hoot Hoot Jump.
"That hurt's really badly" cried Hoot-hoot. When they finished the talk, it was soon Midnight. They Saw two glowing eyes. It was Claws the tiger. "You should be in Bed!" she shouted. They stomped away (exept Hoot-Hoot, He flew away). When He saw the Sign "Home Sweet Home", He karate-kicked it. "Silly Rocko, little eejit!" He thought.
Now this time, Since He was So angry, He Did'nt have any Dinner! Hoot-Hoot Stomped up the stiars Moodly. He farted so loud that the Whole town Smelled it too! [I cringed while typing that sentence] "Pooh ee!" Bertha the Bat Said. She flew over and shouted: CAN YOU STOP FARTING! (it is in Big capital letters Because she shouted). Hoot-Hoot did not listen, But stopped.
Talking in picture: "OMG He smells!" "Eww!" "Pee ew!" "That is even smellyier than me!"
"You need to sleep" Bertha said. "But I Just can't, There are Cupcake Wasp's flying around my Head." Oh No!
Talking in picture: "OMG means "Oh my God" cool right?"
"Like that one?" asked Bertha. "Yeah" answerd Hoot-Hoot. So Bertha Called a Yoga teacher, Mr M (Moose) and Music Players. "This Will ease your pain and calm you down" Mr Moose said.
"Ok!" Hoot-Hoot yawned, He farted agian. Claws watched. Oh no!

No! Lets go back to the story. "So where are we?" asked Hoot-hoot. "in the garden of William shakeshpere" Mr moose replied. "Hey, I was weeing here!!" A dog said. "forget him." Mr Moose said. The sun rose shine at dawn. Mr Moose had enough. He had a can of Beans. But they Were evil Beans. this is what they siad:
Evil Beans: "Mwa Ha Ha!"
Cupcake Wasp: "these are scary! Cool right?"
"I quit," A music player said. then everyone Did. Exept Bertha and Claw's. "Wait, you can say sorry!" said Claws. Hoot-Hoot heard every single Word she said. "Do not even think about singing a song!" he laghed. They went to Rocko's home. They knocked quietly. Rocko came out, Holding a cup of tea.
"You disturbed my Episode 159, but yes?" Rocko asked. "Well, I'm sorry that I was angry" Hoot-Hoot replied. "I fixed up your sign" said Roko. "YaY!" Hoot-Hoot said. Soon they were frenids. What about Glowie? He's on Mount Everest.

to everyone who is complaining about the rapid ending of jjk and the decisions being made on how it's finishing i would like to say:
A. in order for these decisions to be different and also not feel cheesy as shit, there would have had to have been vastly different story decisions made wayyyy earlier in the manga. i'm talking culling games or before. a lot of the things that people want to see happen have no backing in the prior story. we all just spent an entire arc (rightfully imo) criticizing like... "oh of course sukuna has the perfect, previously unmentioned, incredibly niche skill to counteract this specific ct," but now you want more impossible things to happen that have not been foreshadowed or set up in-universe and you super pinky promise that this one won't make you upset? get real
B. one of the reasons the manga is being wrapped up so quickly is bc the fanbase is full of disrespectful vengeful assholes who sent gege death threats bc of his decisions to kill "their husbands." i wouldn't want to keep putting effort and energy into a story if that was the fan response either. gege is better than me bc my ass would have just stopped writing
C. one of the other reasons the manga is being wrapped up so quickly is bc of gege's health issues
D. all of the decisions make perfect sense for a plot-driven story. the plot that was laid out is coming to an end. and this has been, as gege has stated, a plot-focused story. he hasn't focused on character, so things that are happening now are not going to focus on character
now do i think that the story would have been better if it was character-driven yes. do i think it's good and smart and healthy for fans to criticize their favorite media yes. have fans been criticizing and complaining about their favorite media since the dawn of time obviously. but i also firmly believe that every criticism should come from a place of understanding and realization and not just "this is what i thought would/should happen and now im fucking pissed bc it didn't"

something about shibusawa's idea of abilities being a novelty, something to be separated from the user, a collectible to be ripped out of its box, the "box" being a person who can just be discarded and disregarded when their ability is no longer an aspect of them.
something about how, at the end of dead apple, shibusawa reaches for atsushi's crystal and atsushi says "that's not an ability. that's me."
and today, suddenly, I cared so much about that line because that's how we treat people nowadays.
i suddenly felt that line, from the stupid little dead gay authors movie, hit me in the gut. Because that's how it feels to be an artist, a writer, a tool, everything! That's how it feels to be cast aside as a person in favor of your talent, your contribution. that's how it feels to just be a walking content machine in people's eyes, like atsushi was a walking ability in shibusawa's.

I'm not normally one to do anything more than lurk on social media. But 2 days ago I got properly introduced to omegaverse content after being to intimidated for a while, yesterday I discovered Let Me Try, and now I am tearing through LINK content like a rabid dog.

What are canon ages of the boys at the time of Close your Eyes and Lock Me In?
Do you have an idea of a time gap between those two stories? They seem to be the main points of reference of the timeline

Like all the other specifics for the stories, their ages / locations / accents etc. are a bit vague on purpose. I like to leave the room for everyone’s own imagination based on what they’re familiar with. It makes things a bit fuzzy for the timeline sometimes, but I just prefer having the blurred reality instead of basing it on real places and tracking a firm timeline.
But generally, I eyeball the gap between CYE and LMT to be maybe a couple of years.
The later on in the timeline we get with the newer published parts, I’ve been thinking that Kizzy, as the oldest of the four, are now getting closer to the mid-twenties mark and maybe over.
The age order is: Isac as the oldest (by two critical weeks🤺), then Kit, Liam’s a year younger, and then Nathan. -> Nat’s age difference to the others & the gap between the stories could technically vary +/- an extra year or so, depending on whatever length of uni you’d want to imagine.
So basically, the canon is vague and they are all twenty-ish something in CYE and LMT xx
