Introducing Trilogy

Yesterday I released Trilogy, a new tabletop RPG crafted to support you in having grand adventures in worlds of your own making.

There are several reasons I started writing Trilogy, but the biggest one is that I ran a Dungeon World podcast called Crudely Drawn Swords for seven years and that was a lot of time to think about what we were playing. To a degree Trilogy is the game I wish that we could have had to run the podcast.

Starting from the question "what would a purely PbtA game for epic fantasy look like?" I started thinking more widely - what do I want from a fantasy game? And the truth is that I want a game that supports the structure of characters and their interactions but doesn't tie itself to a specific setting.

Trilogy begins with The Appendices - conventionally in epic fantasy these are at the end and document information about the wider world that might not have made it into the story, but here it is where you sit down as a group and decide what tone you want your game to have, and your world looks like. What kind of place is it? What magic is there? What is religion like? What are the major cultures where the story begins? How would it feel to be in this world? Trilogy doesn't tell you any of these things, it gives you the tools to think through how you want your world to look.

This creates a secondary challenge - without knowing what the world looks like, how could I design character classes for this type of game? Trilogy answers this by going back to the fundamentals - instead of a conventional character class, the playbooks in Trilogy represent a narrative arc. Some of them, like The Fighter, The Priest, or The Magus, look like familiar classes. Others, such as The Volunteer, The Mentor, The Weapon, or The Defeated, are a little different. Character arcs have a set of turning points, story beats that allow you to advance along your arc after you have collected a certain amount of experience. Some are positive and others negative, you choose which ones you want to hit and when, but every character's story has its highs and lows and to get the most from the game you need to lean into both. A character can pass through three arcs as they grow and change, like the three volumes of a trilogy.

The aim of the game is to create a slower but satisfying sense of progression - instead of hit points characters take Stress and Harm like in other Powered by the Apocalypse games that can have both mechanical and narrative effects. That makes combat feel dangerous, but the game also offers more ways to solve problems without getting into combat - I have played games where the player characters never got into a fight, instead resolving confrontations through an ingenious selection of alternative strategies including "lying" and "vomiting magic ink all over the floor." I'm genuinely enthusiastic about this game - I think I would be as excited about it if somebody else had written it. It leans hard into the joy of discovery and the excitement of adventure - you can play it as spooky and whimsical or gritty and hard-edged and anywhere in between.

Because I was writing it I even got to make most of the examples of play roll out as the story of someone's game, something I always appreciate when I read it. It also contains every technique I use as a GM in the hope that even before people get the chance to play it (heaven forbid any TTRPG afficionado have books we haven't got around to playing yet!) people who read it will still be able to use that advice in their other games. about your disability pride month post: is there anything important/significant you think people should take notes on when writing a character with an upper arm prosthetic? (like starting from the elbow if i phrased correctly)?

Yeah! I think the biggest is that you ought to consider first, esp if its an OC, your reasoning for making the character disabled- you wanna make sure you're not fetishizing or exploiting their disability to prop up abled characters. I've got a list of questions for authors to ask themselves along those lines that I can post or dm

Secondly, you have to consider what level of realism you wanna go with. If you have a character where, in universe, the prosthesis functions in exactly the way an arm does, you could just go with that if you want - it's the path of least resistance, right? BUT you ought to consider that most prostheses in media exist in that way AT THE EXPENSE of good representation of disability. Erasing disability or "curing" it with magical prostheses IS a form of ableism that is so pervasive it just goes unnoticed by most. I believe personally that disabled bodies are worth portraying well even when the creators of the source material did not do that. SO if you want to go with real well thought our representation, here are some common things I think authors and artists often miss (specifically as it pertains to upper limb prostheses):

1) I already said this, but seriously, I cannot emphasize enough that upper limb prosthetics ain't cheap and are usually uncomfortable. Your character, if they are poor, or even like middle class, won't have access to multiple high tech popular mechanics cover story type robo arms. Even if they did ...

2) Not all limb different folks use prosthetics! I personally have used multiple and I disliked them. I tried very hard to learn, but there are multiple requirements to be able to use each model and sometimes, a lot of times actually, limb different people - especially people without a hand or an arm function Better without prosthetics. Be aware in your art that limb different people are Whole. How you ask can somebody without an arm, say, do all that stuff?

3) Consider the idea of adaptation in your writing and art instead of relying only on magicking disability away with prosthetics. Disabled People live in a world full of barriers and tend to be Very creative about navigating it, adapting to our environment through just being a little clever about how we do things is the biggest way i see other people with upper limb differences interact with the world. There are three main ways that we go about this without prosthetics: Using adaptive equipment, Finding an alternate method, or as a last resort, asking for help.

Example 1: I have like 1.5 arms ok so obviously only 1 hand, and I need to clip my fingernails every once in a while. The obvious solution to me, while it may seem gross, is just to bite them off. Bad habit, but efficient. I could use those horrible little nail clippers, with my remaining stump and a little finagling but it takes forever. I could also get some adaptive nail clippers - they make great big handled ones for ppl that can't grab the little ones. Or, I could ask my partner to trim them, but I'm usually too proud to do that. Let disabled people have their flaws too lol!

Example 2: I love to rock climb. This is where adaptive equipment comes in. I could slip off a rock climbing wall pretty easily right? So bouldering (rock climbing without harnesses) is totally inaccessible to me. But if I go to a gym that has harnesses, then that's fine - they catch me if I fall and that's adaptive for me.

Adaptive equipment comes in many shapes and sizes and can be regular items repurposed.

3. If after all that you Must create art or write about an OC or preexisting character that uses upper limb prosthetics, consider that in general, limb different people's prosthetics are not equivalent to having two arms. Prosthetics are only practical for limb different people if they enhance your life or are useful in some way, however, getting one high tech enough to do that is unlikely because they are expensive. There are different groups, clinics, and charities that make lower cost options but they tend to be much lower tech than is depicted (and often are clunky). My first prosthetic was a long flat piece of metal, similar to a doctors tongue depressor, attached to a plaster cuff velcroed around my stump. The idea was that since I had a little bit of stump poking out, I could pin objects against the metal and it would work like a crab's pincers. It was okay, but I did accidentally smack many. Many. Things with it, including my own face and since it was metal, that was unpleasant. Obviously hindered more than helped. Also it did not look even remotely like a hand.

4. Which prosthetics you can get generally depend on what you got on you. Literally. Bodily. With upper limb prostheses, If you don't have an elbow or wrist, your options are almost exclusively limited to the pricier electric options that are both super futuristic, unavailable to many, and also like new car priced. Many of the manual, non-electric models depend on the ability to flex a wrist or elbow, so if you have those things are a little more accessible overall. It also matters whether you are born limb different like me, or if you are an amputee. Amputees are more likely to be candidates for prostheses than people like me because they have all those preexisting muscles and nerves for prosthetics that are higher tech and require surgical attachment Also prosthetics might be an easier learning curve, and more useful for somebody who has been abled bodied than it would be for somebody who never had that limb in the first place.

5. This is a little thing and ... Not to get too medical with it ( and neither should yall) but limb different people often have physical changes associated with lack of or loss of limb. If you do not have a limb, you are not going to be developing the muscles that are surrounding it in the way an a nondisabled person would. Again for example I have 1.5ish arms which means I've got plenty of stump on my "affected" limb. Even when I did Varsity sports and everything, I was never able to get beefy on that side. It is a pet peeve of mine that many people do not seem to get this - Most art I see of vash the stampede has him with two super beefy shoulders and like yeah i get it that's hot, but if hes got roughly the same amount of stump as me, he probably shouldn'tlook like that. Another thing in this vein is chronic pain is associated with limb loss and limb difference- I have it and its reasonable that any prosthetic user or nonprosthetic using limb different person is more likely to have it. Again these are little things but if you're looking to do good representation you need to consider that limb difference is not just a cool little stylistic choice to make a character look tough or what have you - limb loss and limb difference mean that that character will not only think differently than abled bodied people, but move differently, pose differently, have different routines and preferences than are ever represented in most media. Disability is not a style, and it's not a diagnosis, it's an identity. It's important above all to be respectful of that by letting go of centering able-bodied expectations and aesthetic in your art and writing. Hard to do but i believe in y'all!

I am eternally thinking about how Whole is a concept of the fandom and not canonical at all.

Arguably, maybe someone would say the inclusion of Whole diminishes the original message of the album, to which I do not disagree but I do not agree either.

He changes the context of it, I suppose?

Because the original album, Whole is a concept to be strived for. He is not real, it is always just Heart, Mind, and Soul beneath the surface. They are manifested facilities of the way a person is, how they talk to themselves, the internal conversation. That "psychosocial envy" is the idea of the album. The effect that social standards have on someone who views themself as flawed beyond recognition without any idea how to fit into what the world wants of them.

Soul longs to be Whole because he longs to become what society deems is a person. All of what they are and what they want to be comes in many different forms. It could be any number of internalized ideals of what a man should be, or who you should love, or what you should strive for in life.

Two Wuv as a song is that realization that even after Mind and Heart are better, after they've been able to communicate and function "properly", there is no Whole coming. This is who they are, and that is fine. He is not perfect, he is not what society wants, but he IS a person, and to him, he is Whole.

It is a concept of self forgiveness and grace. The ability to have nuance that what society seeks of you is not so important as truth of the self, owning your flaws and seeming imperfections.

Ultimately, everyone's brain runs differently. Everyone talks to themselves differently, refers to and conceptualizes their inner-world in many ways, and none of it is definable. We have no capable way of putting the way somebody speaks to themself, refers to, and functions within themselves entirely into a box. We are a collection of lived experiences turning itself into informed reactions and responses. If that makes any sense at all.

Of course, the things we have put labels to are definable and are all a part of how we interact with ourself, and there are always commonalities and similarities. There is so much variety in it, being human is fluid...

Anyways.

Without Whole, the "end" of the album means they are in acceptance of one another, that there is a positive relationship with your inner dialogue for some time before something happens and causes a harsh reflection to shatter it all. With him, it is essentially the same, just that there is a more literal or tangible figure to represent that cohesive self-acceptance.

Whole being a tangible character doesn't change Soul, but as I said, informs him more. Whole and Soul are mirror images, they are had to separate and Soul is what Whole is without the interwoven Emotion and Thought.. I suppose. Soul strives for him, and without him, comes to accept this is how it is and who he is. With him, Soul may miss that aspect, or more so, get it only to discover Whole is real, and everything he did worked, but now he sacrifices himself for that.

The dynamic is interesting but incredibly devastating in that regard, especially because it is unlikely Whole's intention to ever split. Nobody wants to have a mental breakdown, y'know?

I could go on about this forever. Whole not being a real character (at least not in the way we often think of him) in the album but something very real and even achievable within the fandom space is.. I dunno, so unique? Its not often fans get to create something that while entirely uncanon to the project, is very important to it.

Side note, what I mean by not how we see him is that Whole is real because they have always been Whole. In album there is no separation. If anything, Concord is like leaving CJ's inner dialogue and witnessing just all of them in tandem being him.

DGM 253 thoughts and questions

1) Apo not understanding the nature of the helix further emphasized that Innocence is amoral

It is established that Innocence is sentient, but all the fragments are subordinate to the Heart. Most don’t have free will; they are either dormant or try to attract accommodators because the Heart needs them to. Since they are stuck in a crystalized form, all they can do is cause strange phenomena to signal people. It seems like they can interact with most things in this world, not just living beings, but they don’t know limitations. Lavi saying that Apo doesn’t understand the helix implies that even though he can learn, react to, and mimic human behavior, he can’t comprehend human nature, by extension morality either. It makes him an interesting antagonist and contextualizes his obsession with Allen. Apo thinks he is superior to people and only views them as energy sources, but Allen’s existence challenges this. So far, it seems like Innocence(s) are reactionary creatures that can learn from and evolve through people but have limitations when it comes to emotional intelligence.

2) The Heart’s conditions for choosing an accommodator are related to their fate, or rather Innocence forces them to be stuck in a bad one

Fate is interpreted in different ways in the story. For Allen, it is a choice, to Cross, it is something you create, to Mana it is something you can't escape and for the Heart, something to control. It is unclear if people’s fate is determined or if there are several different outcomes for everyone, but Innocence can sense that someone is on a bad path.* I assume, they can detect strong emotional responses, but they also must be in the right place. With the affirmation that accommodators are sacrificial lambs, the Heart’s method of trapping people in their misery is particularly cruel and still, questionably efficient. If the Heart wants to go against the Earl, I wonder if quality can battle with quantity. One miserable accommodator is that much more powerful?

*Side note: Does Innocence accept Bookman as accommodators, because their job is miserable by default? Can they get rid of Innocence after they are done recording? If a Jr. is a chosen one, does that mean that some people’s fate is indeed determined?

3) Does the Heart eat souls too?

All living things have a soul, and after death, they return to their origin: the helix. Humans have the most powerful helix energy; their emotions bring forth evolution and their bonds connect them through time and space. This natural power is exploited by the Earl and the Heart. The Earl can imprison (=contain and control) souls and then use their despair to evolve Akuma, while the Heart seeks out specific people to slowly drain out their life energy for reasons, again, unknown. Through Allen’s eye, we see that Akuma souls don’t have free will and probably can’t go back to the helix until an exorcist sets them free. Even though the Heart only deals with life energy, what if the twist is that exorcised souls end up in it? It is kinda stupid but also fun. (Will there be a Madoka Magica twist too??)

4) How could Lavi sacrifice himself?

So, the "magic" rules of this universe aren’t that clear to me still; there is rarely ever an explanation for why things happen the way they are. (But it could be that I’m an overthinker too). The Bookman are also the cheaters of this world (special blood, ancient knowledge, inhuman strength, etc.), but really, all it takes is a decision to be part of somebody’s soul. Is the price that Allen must suffer in the future? Like they must pay back to the universe? Or must he suffer, because there was something wrong with Lavi?* DGM, explain.

This chapter had more confirmations than questions, which is nice. :))

*Side note: The "child of calamity" can either refer to his failure as a Bookman or that he was born with misfortune. White hair seems to be a bad omen, but Allen's only turned white after the curse. Did it trigger remains of Lavi inside him? It is also a fun detail. (this one is for @tetitous who gave some pespective after I wrote this originally)

"What – that you're straight?" Carlos answers instantly. "Yeah. I don't judge." He smiles, raising an eyebrow, taking cues from TK's expertly subtle smugness that he finds so endearing. It’s a nice moment. Carlos slips into the car knowing he said the right thing and Paul laughs with affection and relief.

Despite the successful interaction, Carlos feels a twinge of nerves as he reverses out of the parking space, almost like he’s sixteen and taking his driving test again. It’s weird – he’s a cop, he’s constantly driving with people in his patrol car. Many of those passengers are enraged. He doesn’t bat an eye. Sometimes he takes part in a full-blown, movie-esque car chase. No problem. All in a day’s work. But when he’s driving somebody he doesn’t know very well in his Camaro, he suddenly doesn’t feel too competent. It’s hitting him now. He’s going clubbing with his new sort-of-boyfriend; he has the opportunity to make a friend because of it. And it feels like high school – but good – a good school day where you talk to your crush during gym and one of the cool kids includes you in group work later on and laughs at your joke.

He’s about to make small talk when Paul turns in his seat and asks, “So, you guys have been hanging out a while now, huh?”

Carlos squeezes the steering wheel, glancing at TK in the rear-view mirror. He meets his sparkly eyes, detects a smirk.

“We have–” Carlos starts.

“We’ve been hanging out and having fun,” TK interjects, “And you’re going to have fun too.”

Paul hums a laugh, resigning himself to it. “Hey, if you insist.”

Carlos relaxes a little and focuses on the road, thinking that in the relatively short time he’s known TK, they have had a lot of fun, a lot of sex, a lot of moments that have felt confusingly rich with emotion when they’re not even boyfriends; a lot of post-coital midnight conversations that have become deep and intense. It feels like something significant is happening right now – them bringing another person into the weird little unnameable world they’ve created. TK isn’t hiding Carlos from anybody anymore. But what does that mean?

I have a feeling you might relate to this or you might have even related this on your blog already, but I was just thinking of that Ghoul quotation water water everywhere and not a drop to drink

I think probably my favourite, maybe ever, quiet point of characterisation in a sort of villainous or Beast love interest is his or her having a poet's soul... whether that is conscious or unconscious romantic meditation. It's like Kylo musing to Rey when he says 'You have that look in your eyes. From the forest. When you called me a monster' I love that sort of wistful observation, especially because it evokes such potent imagery ('when we fought together in the forest and then you marked yourself on my face'). Or more literally something like Ghoul citing a line of literature, even when none around except for Lucy would know what he's referencing, it's for his own arrestment and amusement, this is how he sees/interacts with the world

I guess in that way, it reveals something new about their perspective on the world, even when they're somebody seemingly cut off from it - monstrous, othered, repellent, ugly - when they're able to articulate a certain beauty which other characters may not remark upon. It's sort of covetous in that sense, but I think it also sort of helps explain what might interest them about a Beauty, after all, there's something they long for and value (spiritual, aesthetic, existential beauty).

I thought you might be able to relate 🥰

Oh, totally. And with Cooper and Ben, specifically, which is a parallel I hadn't actually noticed until you've just pointed it out, we're being shown their sensitivity as characters. Not in the sense of being considerate, but that they're aware and alert to beauty and meaning in the world despite currently occupying a narrative role which might make us think they're simply destructive or nihilistic figures. And despite the cynicism they're both ostensibly espousing.

Cooper quotes or alludes to literature practically constantly relative to how little he speaks, always knowing people almost certainly won't understand him, and that's especially fascinating because he didn't make those kinds of references in the flashbacks. We could take this in a whole direction about how he created the Ghoul as a character to shield himself from the things he had to do to survive and is living within a meta-narrative deconstructing the reactionary anti-hero who overtook the white hat sheriff he used to play in his movies. The anti-hero he never wanted to be. He makes allusions because his life has become a story he's telling himself to stay sane. He's his own wry Dickensian narrator making asides to an imagined audience about dramatic irony and social commentary.

And an important part of his presentation to others before the war was painting himself as not sophisticated. Just a cowboy and then just a guy who plays a cowboy in the movies. He wants nothing to do with politics either in an interpersonal or broader sense, and disclaims any pretensions to being savvy despite being in a theoretically powerful position as a rich, well-connected major film star. I think he was genuinely naive, but I also think he often played dumb to avoid social conflict. He was complacent and his image helped him remain complacent. Obviously he was very willing to be confrontational when he saw wrong or injustice right in front of him (he goes after Bud Askins directly to his face about marines getting killed by shitty equipment, he challenges Moldaver when she calls him out), but pre-bombs he mostly uses his empathic perceptiveness and charisma to keep everyone around him happy.

In the wasteland we often see him doing the opposite and deliberately riling people up in order to gather information and assess or eliminate them as threats, but he's also only gotten better at disarming people when he wants to. As a handsome charming film star he pretended not to know anything, as a scary intimidating monster he pretends he knows everything.

What I'm wondering about as far as all this goes is whether Cooper always had a secret nerdy side and read all the classics as a teenager or perhaps while waiting between shots when he was working as a stuntman, or whether he wanted to fit in when he started to make it in Hollywood so tried to become cultured before realising that wasn't what anyone wanted from him. Or if he just spent 200 years alone and read anything he could find as a way to cling to his humanity. We know he was at least a bit intellectually curious before the war, because of his reading and retaining some article about studies on torture.

But YES, him quoting poetry and being so interested and insightful about Lucy, specifically is a huge part of how he's framed as a romantic figure. And he's already by far the most romantic figure in the show. If it were solely about his tragedy, you'd think they would emphasise the contrast between his pre-fallen and post-fallen state by stripping him of his heroic trappings, but they don't. He's actually more romantic post-'curse'.

It also gets me because he's an extremely smart, socially adept person who doesn't let others see him for who he really is both consciously and unconsciously on multiple levels and that layers of identity shit is my crack. He was a profoundly honest man who thought he was simple, but actually he was a glorious maze of contradiction and complexity waiting to happen who has now come into his own as a master manipulator.

I go insane about star people science under the cut :]

So, a while ago I made a post theorizing that Rez and the anti-astrals real world equivalent might be antimatter and the astrals real world equivalent would be strange matter. Since we're talking about sentient magical star people, it's kinda hard to find an EXACT real world equivalent, but that's the closest thing I could think of.

Anyways, that got me thinking. Imagine the impact that would have on the astrals relationships with the antimatter entities. When antimatter and normal or strange matter touch, they instantly annihilate each other.

Maybe that's why Cetus and Rez want destruction so much. When our universe (and I assume the TSAMS universe) formed, the big bang should have created equal amounts of matter and antimatter. If there were equal amounts, our world probably never would have formed at all. For anything to exist in the world, one would have to come out on top, and matter won. However, it's theorized (not proven) that an antimatter universe could exist and nothing would really change. If alternate universes exist, there could be worlds where everyone and everything is antimatter, where that's the normal.

All that to say, do they really have a choice? Or were they forced into evil? What else was there to do? Born into a universe that wasn't made for them, the astrals wouldn't want to interact with beings that would instantly explode them upon contact, and it's not like they could make friends with humans or planetary beings. Maybe infection is the only way. Maybe Rez thinks infection is so tantalizing not because they're evil, but because they want to be normal. They want to be loved and appreciated and they don't know how else to achieve that. That's why they serve Cetus, that's why they work against the astrals, because what else is there to do?

And maybe that's why their whole body is practically covered. Rez has on a big cloak and hood and I think gloves as well, maybe not because they're trying to be ominous, but because they have to protect themselves from interacting with matter.

And of course, I have to bring up shipping. Imagine if Rez did fall in love. With Lunar, Gemini, whoever you ship them with. What if they did fall in love and there was nothing they could do? Can you imagine? Falling in love with somebody who will only ever view you as a disgrace. Falling in love with someone so out of your league you can't even touch them. It doesn't have to be romantic either, I can imagine that they'd really look up to the astrals. Imagine wanting to be someone's friend but you can't because you will literally explode each other, that would be awful! Maybe that's why they serve Cetus so loyally, because Cetus is all they have.

It's clear that they hold Lunar in high regard from the way they creepily praise him, what if they like Lunar so much because deep down they want to be like him? They want to become an astral too. And if they can't have that, why should he? Maybe that's why they try to corrupt him.

It’s come to my attention that a lot of people in the BES fandom are new to fandom-culture in general (or lack there of; we denizens of tumblr are residents of a cesspool) and don’t know a lot of general old school online manners, laid down in Days of Yore by earlier generations. So let me bring up a crucial one that is generally being ignored on tumblr in the BES-sphere: ship tagging!

I am not doing this to condescend, I genuinely want to be helpful and to help us all enjoy our enclosure and our enrichment in said enclosure together. I think a lot of grief going around the blue eye samurai world on social media could be solved if everyone remembered one good old cardinal rule of fandom bullshit:

you do not put ship wank in a ship’s general tag.

let me say that one more time in different terms:

If you want to rant about how much you hate a ship, general practice has always been, on tumblr anyway, not to do so in the safe space created for said ship.

once again, lemme be very clear; I don’t give one rat’s ass or 800 collective asses of rats what you ship, why you ship it, whether you ship anything at all, why you hate x y z, etc. That’s great, that’s what fandom is for! Enjoy yourself! The issue is that there’s all this infighting fuckery going on that is exhausting to even watch from the sidelines, and I think there’s a lot of confusion as to why anyone is fighting over any of this shit at all as it is 2024 and ship wars are 2011 superwholock garbage that we all collectively agreed to jettison into space by 2015, ya feel me?

(and if you like to start shit and throw hands then obv this post isn’t for you as you know what you’re doing, this is for the folks who don’t know and are confused as to why they can’t rant without blowback)

So if you’ve gotten on tumblr recently and noticed your anti-ship post blowing up for some reason or other and asked yourself “Jesus why are these assholes from that ship always coming for me?? They’re such dicks!!” ask yourself:

did I tag them in my post?

Because when you tag a ship in a post about how much you hate it, it’s not a beacon that says “Hear Ye Hear Ye, Interacteth Not Ye Fuckos From Ship I Hate, This Is About How Much I Hate Your Ship”. For that to be the case, you would need old-school anti-ship tag nomenclature, like this: #anti-[shipname] or #[shipname] wank. Those tags would communicate your intent to rant, which is your sacred fandom right to enjoy doing! It is not, however, your sacred fandom right to enjoy doing it in the wrong space, that’s what’s happening here. A post that tags a ship with its normal tag, but whose content is anti/wank content about said ship, sends the signal: “ayyooo, who would like to debate this with me?”

So, does all that make sense? If you tag your post analyzing all the reasons why you think a ship sucks with #ship, you are encouraging everyone who ships that ship to interact with your post. It’s like rocking up to somebody’s house, ringing the doorbell, and saying “I hate your fugly ass piece of shit house, asshole” and then getting irritated when the homeowner responds with “who the fuck are you, get off my lawn?!”

#anti-[shipname], #[shipname] hate (forgot about that one, also useful), and #[shipname] wank do two very useful things:

1) They let other people who want to gleefully rant with you know that you’re on the level and they give like minded individuals a chance to follow those tags so you can have more rant sessions together, and

2) they minimize likelihood of involvement by the shippers you’re ranting about, who can block the tag, while keeping the ship’s normal tag open for the people who enjoy it

tldr; *swordfather voice* it would be bitchin if people could stop bitchin in the wrong places so that we can all coexist like adults here, touch some grass, and chill. Tag ship hate #anti-[shipname], #[shipname] wank, or #[shipname]-hate and keep it out of the general pro-ship tags :)

Hi! I really love your memes. Have you already done MBTI types as video games?

Thank you so much!! Honestly, I probably have at some point in the many years, but if I have, it's been a long time, so let's give it a go. I tried to get a mix of old, new, classic, and modern games in, and tried not to give every one a SUPER OBVIOUS game. Hope you like it! 😸

MBTI Types as Video Games

INTP: Slime Rancher

It took everything in my power to not do Portal 2 for INTP, because it seems like the obvious choice and I wanted something other than that. Maybe not as puzzle-oriented, but Slime Rancher captures a different side of INTPs like their affinity for unique experiences through Ne, comfort Si that allows them to organize all their slimes effectively, and their inferior Fe that lets them take care of cute little creatures with minimal risk.

INFP: Minecraft

An instant classic that lets your imagination run wild and live your life the way you think it should be lived, without the limitations of oppressive reality. Build the comfiest home with as many floors, rooms, walls, etc. as you want. Your house wouldn't be structurally sound and is impossible to create in real life? DOESN'T MATTER, it's what the INFP wants, and it what they can have in their own little world.

ENTP: Among Us

A creative and random environment where you have to either find the killer or be the killer terrorizing the space ship crew, interrupted by segments of ARGUING ~*~discussion~*~ about who the imposter might be, followed by voting to eject them into space via mob-mentality? Is there any game more chaotic and perfect for the ENTP to thrive in that I'm missing, here?

ENFP: Skyrim

You are the nonspecific protagonist with unique dragon powers that let you literally scream somebody to death, and, once again, live your life the way you want to live it, as chaotic or lawful as you might want. Become a criminal werewolf who leads a dark, murderous cult by night, and is the dean of a magical college by day? YOU CAN DO THAT.

INTJ: Satisfactory

Slowly and steadily building the most effecient space colony to mine resources and build interesting and novel alien technology? What could the INTJ want more. It won't happen overnight, but the efforts of the INTJ compound with each and every day, and one day, they'll make use of every square inch of the planet's surface for their factory.

INFJ: Coffee Talk

A lesser known game to some, but just as impactful, nonetheless. You're simply a barista in a coffee shop, but you have the pleasure of meeting and hearing the stories of a diverse cast of characters that let you into their unique inner worlds. You'll get to explore their experiences and choose your own dialogue to interact with their lives and offer your input that is tailored to the individual character.

ENTJ: Left 4 Dead

The goal is simple and well-defined: survive the zombie apocolypse. But the only way to do it in this game is to have all 4 players work together in perfect syncronicity as a well-oiled machine to cover all your bases as you traverse each level. It requires delegation of tasks, foresight of what's to come, and just a little bit of quick, thinking-on-your-feet, a perfect combination to engage their Te, Ni, and Se, respectively.

ENFJ: Mario Kart

Everyone knows Mario Kart, and everyone loves Mario Kart. Much like an ENFJ, themselves. Mario Kart has a very low barrier-to-entry so that the majority of people can learn to play quickly, and enjoy time with their friends! It's fun, it's casual, and it requires a bit of that tertiary Se to make some quick turns to finish in first. The game resembles the ENFJ personality itself, and it is a favorite of an ENFJ I know for those same reasons (as she doesn't play many video games).

ISTP: Assassin's Creed

(Couldn't find any good covers with Altair that fit tumblr's format, so I did Ezio, the fan favorite (and also probably an ENFJ assassins which is p cool?))

The franchise has undergone a lot of change over the years, so I do NOT mean the RPG elements, but rather the original elements of the games that made them so great! ISTPs would rather have a more focused way to engage the game, instead of the endless possibilities of an open-world, anyway. Quick reactions to stay hidden, a good grasp of the terrain around you and how to use it against your enemies, and a solid amount of Ti to calculate the most logical time to strike makes for a great way to engage the ISTP's top functions.

ISTJ: Super Smash Bros

Again, the goal is simple, fight your friends and be the last one standing. The rules are simple, in fact, they are completely customizable so you can save your settings to define exactly what kind of experience you want to have, and you know what to expect. You can play it simple with a set number of lives and no items, or you can crank the spawn rate of all items up to the max, if you're in a particularly low-Ne, (low-risk) feeling, kind of mood. Still, the goal is always the same. Hone your strategy, defeat your friends (or foes lmao)

ISFP: The Sims

Introverted by nature, they appreciate being able to spend some time alone without having to give up the things they like about the sensory world, including house and clothing fashion-design. These aesthetics were made to be seen, but sometimes they can only be made in a video game, and sometimes you need a break from real people. It's a realistic enough game that they can connect with it in a more relatable way than more abstract types of games, but they still please the Fi desire to live their personal life the way they wish without the limitations of reality.

ISFJ: Animal Crossing

Again, it's a familiar environment, with just a little flaire to excite that inferior Ne. You've got what seems like endless tasks (in a good way lmao) to keep you busy taking care of your island, and also forming positive relationships with your fellow residents! You get to meet new people, help solve the residents' problems, become a pillar of your community, and at the end of the day, retire to your cozy home.

ESTP: Palworld

It's new, it's weird but somehow familiar, it's Pokemon with guns. It might not be the most "original" game, but it was an inspiration nonetheless for the simple fact that it took all of the known successful elements of gameplay that people enjoy from other games, and put them all into one game that, for lack of better words, "just gives the people what they want". What you see is what you get, and it packs a punch.

ESTJ: Dark Souls

Although it is the more introverted game compared to ISTJ, it requires an incredible amount of strategy in order to champion this game. The medieval themes are familiar, but that's the only comfort the game provides due to its overwhelmingly punishing gameplay style that only the thickest of skin can overcome. What says thick skin like inferior Fi?

ESFP: Rocket League

It's extreme soccor (or football for my friends from across the pond), but instead of playing as people, you play as cars with rockets to propel them. Why, they ask? Because you want to, obviously. Realisitic enough that the concept is still based in a familiar reality, but the mayhem and competetion has been dialed up to 11 simply because it makes it more interesting that way. Again, what you see is what you get, AND IT PACKS A PUNCH.

ESFJ: Tabletop Simulator

It might seem like an odd choice, but hear me out. It's social, it's familiar, it's easy to jump into, and you're not limited to the physical copies of games that your friends have at their houses - you've got, like, any tabletop game you could possibly want to play! It alleviates the limitations we feel in real life when we want to play games with friends, but maintains the integrity of connection and fun you have with them. PLUS, you can flip the table after losing a game for comedic effect without making a mess in someone's IRL home.

I think that if we're all forced to sell our lives away to please corporate, governmental or dictatorial overlords;

If they've made it impossible to not participate in the system;

If opting out on a small scale exactly does nothing to hurt any of the evil;

If you sometimes even actively can't do much, because they've worked you till you're old or you're disabled in some way

It comes back to what all the religions preach anyway:

What you can always do is give to others. Even if it is a day pass to feckin Disney World to buy their crap and make them richer, it will boost happiness and lower stress. Misery and want is what the whole system feeds off. If you lower that in any way, it is fewer drugs sold, fewer people harmed, maybe slightly less time stuck in some kind of traffic, maybe somebody has the energy to fix something in the house, work on their health, play with their dog.

The system works on manufactured misery. And yes, it will be fed even by a lot of the efforts to lessen misery. But they will earn a whole lot less, and it will lessen their ability to create more, the more we do for each other. Even in whatever system traps you.

That is not easy at all but it is simple.

And I'm not that much for interacting with a bunch of people all the time. There are people that annoy me and I don't want to interact with. There are people so spoilt they could do with a little adversity to deflate their egos. I don't even particularly trust many charities. But any misery you can lessen, any joy you can buy, even, sticks it to the destructive forces in this world.

Remember - they live off agony and coercion. That's where all of it builds on. People are not half as bad as everybody always paints them. Use discernment, of course - don't get exploited. But every bit of true, actual happiness or relief you can create or buy helps. Even if you're trapped, and exploited, and powerless, feelings they want you to numb, or even situations they hope will kill you to scare others into submission - even then, anything you can or even buy for another will fight it. For a close one. Not for the state, the nation, corporate, vague charity. Sometimes not even for you, because what power you have is too little to solve your problem. But giving it to another - as directly as possible - always helps.

It's truly the best way to fight the power, that's why they always create disconnection. Worship either the grand, unknowable state or the individual. No, anything you can do for another person, just some other rando, will always fight the loneliness, fear and misery that drives profit. That's why they disincentivise it everywhere, and if not they try to sell it.

Don't bother. Go hang out with someone. Go do something to ease the daily stress if it is ordering someone a Starbucks Gift Card.

Deva watched The Mannequins perform, from backstage. His band will go on stage after them. Rama, The Mannequins' manager was beaming proudly at her brother, the lead singer. He wanted to get a good look of the lead singer's face. He didn't necessarily hate the view of the lead singer's back. He couldn't wait to get hold of Varadha's perfect ass into his hands, once the Annual Day event ends. He wanted to watch Varadha whimper in that crumpled light blue shirt so badly. He was afraid he would take Varadha into his mouth once they get into his car.

As Varadha started to sing, Deva noticed the first line of audience filled with pretty boys in cotton shirts and pretty girls in summer dresses, all looking up at Varadha so admiringly. Then he observed that the audience started hooting more for Varadha. So, he went to the front stage to watch Varadha's performance properly.

Varadha's style was performative with every lyric. The soothing melodies he sang, the way he performed always took the audience's breath away. He performed to be free, to sing and to dance.

Varadha was also amazing at enticing the audience . Picking out a particularly enamoured guy and lick his tongue on his upper lip while making eye contact. Blowing out a kiss to the pretty girl in the right side of the audience which made her faint. At the end of the performance, Varadha opened up a water bottle, took a sip but poured the rest of it down his face and chest. His translucent shirt now sticking to his chest, showing his nipples and his eyeliner which was now completely smudged. It didn't help that he was completely dazed from the performance and his chest was heaving very much.

Deva felt a tinge of envy towards Varadha because of his performance. He felt a bit annoyed that the audience got to see him like this.

Only I should see him like this. This messy. This vulnerable. This dazed, he thought

Backstage, as usual Deva and Varadha didn't interact at all. Their bands didn't like each other. Whatever trysts or random hookups Varadha and Deva had, their bandmates were completely in the dark about those. They both preferred it that way. Or so they assumed about the other.

Deva and Varadha were rivals. Whatever they have going on over the past few months will fade, they both thought. They were waiting for whatever this is to fade. To end. But it only seemed to be growing stronger. Deva's eyes met with Varadha's as he was about to step on to the stage. Varadha stuck out his tongue and gave him a wide grin.

He put up a thumbs up and mouthed, "Good luck, baby", cheekily.

Deva took to the stage and he was intimated by the swarming crowd. Deva observed that the first line of the audience changed. Now the line consisted of pretty girls and pretty guys in heavy black eyeliner most of them in black T-shirt and jeans.

His demeanor changed entirely as he stood in the middle of the stage. His lips touched the mic and looked into the audience as the sound of his breathing reverberated.

"Hello, everybody. This is Cheap Green", he shouted at the top of his lungs as the crowd shrieked.

The entire performance was a blur to him. He recalled that at one point, he and his bandmate Bhaarava were jamming together. And he must have screamed out the lyrics very loudly throughout because his throat felt sour. But he remembers the electricity he felt on the stage. He already missed it as he got off the stage.

Deva headed straight to the bathroom after hugging his bandmates. He was still shivering when he washed his face at the sink. He looked at himself in the mirror. He was extremely sweaty. His black T-shirt sticking to his chest and under his armpits. He now recalled that he had worn a formal black shirt over the T-shirt which he had thrown into the audience. He chuckled to himself as he remembered the bewildered look of the guy who caught the shirt. He closed his eyes and breathed steadily to ground himself for a few moments.

The bathroom door opened and closed. Then he heard a clicking noise as the person locked the door. He opened his eyes to see Varadha eyeing his reflection in the mirror.

He was still wearing the blue shirt and the light brown shorts showing off his perfect legs.

Deva eyed Varadha as he grew nearer. His stomach fluttered.

"You were really good.", Varadha said in a low voice as he stood beside him, leaning against the sink.

Deva gave him a little smile. "So were you", he said resting his hand on Varadha's.

Varadha's palm trailed up his hand and reached his neck. He squeezed it gently that sent shivers down Deva's body. He gently placed his lips on Deva's lips.

"You put on quite a show today", Deva said, his breath hitching as Varadha bit into his collar bone.

Varadha put his hands under Deva's T-shirt, and whispered into his ear, "God, you are sweaty, baby" as he pulled the T-shirt off Deva's chest.

"Vara, not here, no", Deva chuckled.

"That's where you are wrong, baby. Right here. Right now.", Varadha's eyes turned darker.

Deva's head hung back as he saw Varadha's hands trail down to his jeans.

"Varadha, someone is going to come and knock on that door. Let's do this later", Deva moaned as Varadha pulled down his zipper.

"Are you sure you don't want this? Your moans tell me otherwise.", Varadha mumbled, focussed on caressing Deva's happy trail.

"Don't worry, no one is going to come. Everybody is ogling that actress, Aadhya, that they invited.", Varadha explained hastily.

"You need me that bad, huh?", Deva said as Varadha pulled down his pants. "Cannot even stop yourself for few more hours, can you?", he murmured as he saw Varadha get down to his knees on the dirty floor.

"I need you so bad, baby", Varadha said as he cupped Deva's crotch through his boxes. Deva's hips jerked forward involuntary and he grabbed Varadha's hair to control himself.

Deva moaned outloud as Varadha pulled down his boxers. Varadha pinched his thigh lightly to make Deva look down at him. Varadha's smudged eyeliner and his sweaty hair made Deva's grip on Varadha tighter. Varadha continued to look up at Deva as he licked the head of Deva's dick. Deva groaned as Varadha held his thighs apart with his hands, squeezing them. Varadha licked up the length at leisure.

"Vara, please hurry the fuck up", Deva said through gritted teeth.

"I thought you didn't want this, baby. You said we should do this after we leave here, didn't you?", Varadha teased in between licking up and down the length.

Deva's knees shivered slightly. Varadha's mouth was now driving him up the wall.

"Vara, please"

"Do you think any one of your fans can make you feel this way?", Varadha said and proceeded to suck the head and swirl his tongue there.

Deva couldn't reply except moan. He couldn't form words.

After the rendezvous, they both went their separate ways. They mingled back with their bands. It was exciting and hot keeping their (relationship?) hookups a secret but then again, they both felt a tinge of sadness.

Their bands were set to go onstage again to say farewell to the audience. Varadha and Deva looked at each other from across the room backstage. Something passed between them.

Why are we hiding? Who cares?

They both felt it. But neither of them said it. They didn't need to say all this:

I want to go back to your apartment and make you perform all your songs with just me as the audience.

I want to kiss you all over, hear you say: "You are mine and I am yours" again and again

I want to dance with you to my favourite music.

I like your arms around me even when I turn away from you in my sleep.

I just want to be with you now.

Have ice cream with you. To feel at peace.

But Deva and Varadha were gone.

Varadha and Deva were walking in the empty campus, trying to find the food stalls setup for the Annual Day.

"Do you have a favourite flavour?", Varadha asked in a light tone but he was listening very carefully. He wanted to remember this so badly. To never forget it.

"Orange. What's yours? Wait. Let me guess", Deva held up his hand.

"Go ahead then", Varadha chuckled.

"Butterscotch"

"No"

"Chocolate"

"Second favourite"

"Damn. Vanilla?"

"God no", Varadha said scandalized.

"Alright then what is it?", Deva said, giving up.

"Grape", Varadha replied.

"What?! No, that's just not true"

"Why would I lie?", Varadha sniggered.

"Grape? Grape?! Grape. Okay, there is a darkness inside you that doesn't meet the eye.", Deva said wisely.

"Uh-huh. Sure, there is.", Varadha said, side eyeing him.

"There's the ice-cream stand. Finally, we found it. We should have really listened to that organizer. She was blushing so much when she met you. Well, so was I, but.... ", Deva babbled walking ahead of him.

Varadha just stood there. Remembering everything about this moment. Letting this moment wash over him.

Deva turned around and looked back at Varadha, raising his eyebrows, gesturing "What?" with his hands. He stretched out his hand towards Varadha. Varadha took it with no hesitation. Deva pulled him closer wrapping his arms around Varadha's waist as they walked together clumsily towards the ice-cream stand.

I'm gonna post this idea myself later but I'm also gonna send this ask cuz I wanna see your own take on it.

Post-Imposter Hunt reader who makes their Self-Insert. (Or at least one of them)

The Imposter is dead, the hunt done with, and we're at the top of the world as the Creator. Of course we want little to dow tih Teyvat because it wanted to be our friggin kidnapper, sacrificer, and coffin.

But then we remember, "hey we're called the creator cuz we friggin made Teyvat (allegedly)" so we decide to bring our SI to life and it works.

The best part? Our self-insert is somebody we like hanging around, no matter their traits we'd see as less than stellar in anybody else in our worshippers. And they understand us because they're us in a way! They get our pain, struggles and anxieties even if they aren't wholly us. And vice versa because we made them.

They don't worship us, revere us, they treat us as they would anybody else. They don't think of us as some god! (or hide it better than everyone else if they do)

And what can Teyvat do but watch? A real Vessel was in front of them.

We play soldier and dress-up with the Allogenes. But our self-insert, who was our way of interacting with worlds personally before our descension into Teyvat? Who was made with a piece of ourselves? They're a real Vessel. Favored by the Creator.

And Teyvat can only watch as they steal all Their Grace's love, love they forfeited through their stupidity.

Yoooo this is genuinely a really good idea-

I can imagine that most,if not all characters are hella jealous. Especially the traveller and free 4 stars like amber. Like all of a sudden,traveller went from being a special vessel (as not only the first,but the one we use most often story wise) to being a regular vessel,and this random "real vessel" took thier place.

It'd be so much worse if you had ocs. Like no matter how they came to be (either they materialized into Tevyat when you created them pre isekai or you made them along with your SI post isekai),your ocs are viewed as special,no matter how unimportant they were before. It's extremely demoralizing for your now-disgraced acolytes.

It's a really interesting idea,especially considering how your SI would probably be "blessed" or smth. Plus they treat you like an actual person! Which,in your case,is a very good thing. You can actually Unwind and talk with them without having to worry about things you say being taken out of context,or taken too seriously.

Of course,even if your self insert sees you as a god,they wouldn't tell or show you. They want to keep this privilege. Even if it means getting dirty stares when they call you by name. Or constant threats from your insanely jealous acolytes.
