Good morning patchy!! I hope you have lovely day even though you expect it to be a long one. Here's a little bit from my anime self-ships. 💕

Shouta: I have a WIP for a bookstore au and that has just morphed into my self-ship au.

I had owned my little downtown coffee shop for about 5 years when he moved into the empty half of the same building. His was the first proposal to the city board that would fit well being adjoining with mine. A secondhand bookstore. New and old books, swaps for discounts etc.

I was opening one morning when the realtor and the city's commissioner showed him the space. And they stopped in for coffee later that morning, and so that we could formally meet each other. He was quiet, only asked a few questions, and complimented the coffee. But his eyes were piercing, clocking everything that happened around him. Almost a little wary, but still kind every time they met mine.

He opened within a few weeks and was a hit in town immediately, although people were taken aback by how gruff he came off at times. How curt, but still polite he could be. Quickly became a point of gossip among my younger afternoon employees. They knew everything there was to know about everyone. 😂

It wasn't long before we frequented each other's space. He spent early mornings leaning over my shop's counter while we chatted about the book he'd recommend that week. Too many late nights at the 24hr diner down the street, before I realized that I had feelings for him. But he was fresh out of a bad on again off again relationship (Hizashi) and was struggling with letting go of that, so I didn't imagine that he could be feeling the same.

One evening his shop light was still on much later than usual (his apt is above the store) and I went over to return a book. He was nursing a bottle of good scotch. One that he'd told me he only brought out when he wanted to forget whatever he was stuck on.

He was still stoic, but a little red in the face. Rambling about what a fool he was, that he wanted so badly to move on from his past. That there was something he thought could be so much better than what he'd had before but he was so afraid to fuck it up. I threw back a swig straight from his bottle and found the footing (through my disappointment) to tell him that he should try. That he deserves everything he never had before.

I asked him who, as I got up from sitting on his desk (that he'd been pacing in front of) and he turned toward me to say something when he tripped. He knocked me back, accidentally practically flat onto the desk before he caught himself. He hovered there for a second, then pressed me back in what was effectively the best kiss I've ever had. I pulled him down, and kissed him again, and the rest is history. 💘

The fact he's so gruff and wanting to forget his past and opening up to you is so sweet - like I LIVE for this dynamic of trying a hand at love once again despite it all and UGH! YES!
