Haha we do have it. 'surprendre' is the infinitive of the verb you just yelled 'the act of surprising!!' though I guess you guys don't have verb infinitives do you? You just say 'to surprise'.

Anyway to yell surprise in french just say 'surprise!' ;] it's a transparent word when it's an interjection. (Which is like 'Oh' 'ah!' or even 'fuck!' but those are in both languages. Would be pretty stale if we didn't have those lol) Now then!

Birs hugs!!!! Yippeeeee!!! I love the gifs you find ^^ I'm alright! Got what I needed to get done today so I can go to work on my art shtuff lol. The croque monsieurs were very very good. I wish I'd taken a picture now. I might just make more now.

Ps. (You do find infinitives in some cases like 'je me suis fait surprendre' but in English you'd translate that 'I was surprised [by something]' that's really weird don't really know the rule for when to use the infinitive. I guess you guys can't make sentences like that, it's understandable that you had issues with it. I'll look it up for you.)

I keep drinking coffee thinking it's gonna make me Productive and then instead of doing the work I actually have to do I just compulsively make spreadsheets :(

#my homework is. not done #but!!! i just realized if i take 2 spanish classes i can have a russian/spanish major instead of just russian #(it's complicated but this would leave me with: double major languages and history with a joint major in asian middle east studies)#(plus a minor in religious studies and concentration in islamicate studies)#first i gotta: relearn spanish for like the third time #but it's ok i'm hopping thru spain in less than a month so i should proooobably do that anyway #man when i was touring colleges my mom was like really dismissive about the idea of double majoring and now i'm here like #How Many Things Can I Stack Up To Get Big Number On Transcript #aaaaaaaand because of ames requirements i did the dumb thing and ended up learning persian while my spanish is still kinda iffy #итак совершилося то что я пытался предотвратить as they say #so i'm just gonna have to study two languages at once next semester... or just keep going thru the cycle of relearning them abt every year #my russian is a big girl it can survive on its own but i now gotta feed the babiessssss #tho ig what this kinda cyclically learning and forgetting spanish has taught me is like #languages are less like babies and more like those lil desert plants that wither up when they don't have any water #they might look dead but they're nearly impossible to kill completely #and will bounce right back after a lil care n patience. i just gotta like.... water em #the one thing standing in my way is ideological opposition to my spanish textbook #i have to pay $200 for access to a *website*#*i don't even get a book just a shitass ebook*#but it's ok one of the spanish profs likes me i think? i think she would let me skip the intro lit class #only problem is it was Genuinely Hard for me to follow along when i audited advanced lit... 90% of the class was heritage speakers #tho ig like. having taken a class meant for native russian speakers should help w learning to survive that kinda thing #genuinely i think i can do it #just gotta make that my goal. study. do it for zapata #and if i wanna go into translating... having good spanish should help right? like if i finally get b2 spanish?#yeah. if i could do kazakh history for native russian speakers i can do spanish lit for heritage spanish speakers. it's equivalent enough #but ok i'm gonna visit my buddy in spain who did nearly the exact same shitass majors combination as me #tho i think he did spanish/arabic for his language major and just Happens To Also Be Fluent In Russian cuz he's Like That #it's ok he's two years older than me i have two years to become that cool #he can tell me what to do

#was gonna pierce my lip but I realized I lost all the caps to my barbell piercings and I didn't even realize. I'm so fuckin mad #now I have to get more #idk if I can just get the screw on heads. idk what mm size they are #anyway. bone broth is successful. it's been slow cooking all day and looks and smells good. it's gonna make for hella nutritious soup base.#also I've been hunting down Spanish vocab audio because that's how I learn best.#listening to more language transfer and adding music to my Spanish playlist.#still definitely not conversational but my comprehension is going up quite a bit.#I had a grumpy Russian man come through my lane today and the desire to communicate better was so strong.#I just wanna learn all the languages.#I just need to find more resources that work for my brain.#I have a Spanish vocab book and I hardly touch it. duolingo sucks for me. I hate Rosetta Stone.#but there's resources out on the internet I just have to find them and use them.#there's a few good ones on Spotify I've found. as much as I hate Spotify conceptually for music artists it's still a resource I can use.#as much as I don't wanna apply for new jobs I don't wanna work in the same place next year when we move.#I still really wanna try food service. my speech has gotten way better and my stutter is almost never present #so job interviews should be way easier to pull off. I’ve got French English German Russian math Hebrew and Arabic courses open in Duolingo and somehow I’m actively doing lessons in all of them. But whenever I do an Arab lesson it erases the last five minutes learning the Hebrew alphabet lol

Resisting the urge to carve myself a distaff from one of the evergreen boughs ive dragged home and learn medieval in-hand distaff spinning. Do i need to do any of this ? No. Am i happy with supported spinning ? Yes ! Am i probably gonna do it anyway ? ... also yes

#we talk a lot about the rabbit hole of fiber arts #but i dont think we talk enough about the rabbit hole of different spinning tools and techniques...#so far id say ive gotten proficient in drop spindling wheel spinning and supported spinning with russian style spindles #really want to get into either tahklis or charkah wheels #bc im gonna be visiting my wonderful fiancé in india and hes still gonna have work for most if not all of the time im there #so my plan is to spin a LOT. hoping to get really proficient in cotton spinning bc ive always really sucked at that #and then i really wanna learn medieval style spinning as well #if i was an academic i could easily see myself devoting my life to writing a book about spinning tools through the ages #i am so endlessly fascinated by it #but also really bad at research and have a pretty crippling case of dyslexia #i wanna try. all the tools #it always feels like the way to get closer to the past is to spin like them #since that has been THE constant human activity since quite possibly pre-homo sapiens times #i dont know how much cloth the neanderthals wove or if they were more inclined to use animal skins #but we do know they made yarn and they were good at it #sadly my hands cant do cordage. fucks em up in about a minute flat #but iirc we've found stone spindle whorls which may have been used for spinning #stone whorls can also be used for hand drills and fire starters and things like that so idk #anyway. i just want to know SO badly #spinning

one thing that’s been kinda bewildering to watch over the last few years is the slow and steady income of black people to Kazakhstan. and it’s like. why HERE? like. we always had a very ethnically diverse population, kazakhs, russians, chinese, koreans, germans etc etc but it’s all very explainable with history. and our universities have some kind of agreement with India, so that explains the influx young Indians and Pakistanis to cities. but like. before 2015 i think the only black people in Kazakhstan were kids of mixed marriages where one parent was African and studied in university in USSR and businessmen here on short work trips. but like today i saw a black security guard at pull and bear. and last week there was a new barista in the coffee shop close to my office. and i’m obviously not saying it in like an angry/racist way im more like. why Kazakhstan? literally what do we have here that made u wanna move HERE?

#literally if i wasn’t born here i would wanna like maybe visit just for the sights but MOVING here??? why #there’s a pretty short list of places this would be an improvement over and that’s not counting the fact that both russian and kazakh #are very difficult languages to learn #and i’m self aware in knowing people don’t fucking know about Kazakhstan. like how do u even find out and decide to move here #ig the students are like offered these by their schools/unis but other than that i’m so so lost #laila.txt

every time i consume media from/about another culture i wanna learn the language so damn bad

as if japanese isn't already enough to handle :')

#i consider japanese my second language bc it's the only one i've on several occasions actually spoken with native speakers comfortably #but i'm still learning and don't really wanna divide my time too much #in the past i've taken mandarin spanish latin and italian and i was pretty good at norwegian but i'm focusing 100% on jpn rn #anyway the language this time is russian. very neat language but i don't know if i have it in me to learn yet *another* alphabet #(after hiragana katakana and kanji i think i'm out of brain storage)#anyway had a friend growing up who was russian and i always liked listening to her parents speak it #currently reading a book that takes place in medieval russia that's why i was looking into it again lol
