barbatos' ideal world revolving around diavolo is unsurprising, but also very telling of his character. he's so focused on everything and everyone around him, making sure space-time stays stable, that he doesn't have time to think about anything but that. not even when it pertains to himself and his happiness

barbatos' happiness revolves around fulfilling his duties as butler/subordinate, but also making sure he stays sane long enough to ensure that the instability and semi unpredictability of time itself doesn't prevent diavolo's wishes from coming true

I just finished playing through the Arty Event 6 times to get this UR and holy shit the devilgram. If you're still playing the og and you need some Lucifer romancing I high key recommend working on getting this one from Lonely Devil.

I know this card came out a long ass time ago but since I've never seen anyone talk about this card I was very unprepared to get kissed FIVE TIMES in part four. FIVE TIMES! IN A ROW.

And I knew it was spray paint themed going in because of the card art but I like that we get a tidbit of information on what other kinds of art Lucifer has done in the past. Plus I got to sit in his lap, my favorite thing ever in the OG. I also love it when these devilgrams let us be playful with Lucifer in an environment where he has zero issue being playful right back.

So yes, this card is now going on my favorites shelf along with Night of the Party, Colourful Panic, and Sweet Valentines Honesty(just to name a few).

So, Time Chronicles huh? I haven't played og so I'm happy I can read it but I've seen some people say that new readers are going to miss context bc related calls/texts aren't embedded into the story. I think I'll wait and see if devs add them before I read but what do you think?

Also I wonder if they've made any more changes to the story (iirc @/devildomwriter has at least the main story backed up) Crossing fingers that og devilgrams (unlikely in my opinion) and outfits eventually get ported too

I have to admit that my feelings about it are mixed.

On the one hand, I'm thrilled that everyone gets to catch up with the story! I think it's great that I don't have to switch between apps to read the OG anymore. And I also love that they're including the event stories and birthday stories, so you never have to worry about missing them. And then you can still use Lonely Devil if you want to grind for specific cards.

But on the other hand, this doesn't bode well for the OG app in general. And I'm going to really miss a lot of those cards. Not to mention all the time and money I spent on everything in that app. This is truly the big downside to it.

As for the chats and phone calls, I'm not sure what they're gonna do about that. It's true that you need the ones that are part of the story if you want that extra context. My hope would be that they would find a way to include them, so that you don't miss out on that stuff when you read OG. Specifically I remember there being a lot of chats that were embedded in the story.

But does this mean we're also going to lose all the cards, Devilgrams, outfits, daily chats, and phone calls that we all spent a lot of time and money on to obtain in OG?

I wish they would tell us, but their silence on it is pretty damning. Most likely if they were going to transfer all of that over to Nightbringer, they would have told us, right? Because they would know that would make us all happy??

I do feel like lately they've been trying to listen to their players and incorporate things that we say we want. For instance, allowing us to remove that ad banner on the home screen, bringing back birthday events, and now putting the OG story into NB so anyone can read it.

If they could just give us those other things, I'd be pretty satisfied with game play as a whole. (The writing is a different issue, let us not discuss it lol.)

But as it stands right now, unless they keep the OG app running for as long as NB is running, then some of us stand to lose quite a lot of money and all of us will have lost the time invested.

Anyway, I'm sorry, I know that wasn't really what your ask was about. If you've never played OG, then you'll have nothing to worry about losing. I'm not sure if they're going to include the chats and so on, but I hope they do because I feel like it's a little silly to leave those out?

Also not sure how different the story will be, but my guess is probably not by much. It's easier for them not to mess with it and to just put it in there as is. I don't think they're going to be doing any major rewriting lol.

I abandoned canon when they released an ENTIRELY DIFFERENT GAME rather than revamp/rework the old game and gave us no way to transfer cards or anything.

I'm not at all mad with anyone who continued on, don't get me wrong. But seeing now that people are being asked to pay THAT much for a 'date'?? Glad I jumped ship a long time ago. It's better here. Free in the fandom

Honestly, so valid of you, anon.

I am biased because when I started playing, NB was already here. So I wasn't as invested in OG (time or money). I was still trying to make my way through the lessons, but getting the cards and leveling them was harder for me in OG than they were in NB, so I ended up gravitating to NB. And then they eventually made the OG story available on NB and for me, I was kinda grateful (felt bad for the OG players though! Damn...)

But the overall story has gotten so far off course at this point. And they keep reusing previous plot points/situations but lightly modified and it feels really.... lazy.

And like...I get that the company needs to make money, there's a lot that goes into producing and maintaining a game. But their prices are too much for a flat rate and a "date" that doesn't seem much better than your typical UR+ devilgram, and that combined with how the romance and implied steaminess has been very much nerfed (except for the art and home screen dialogues ironically), it's just been really losing steam for me. It's a shame cuz I love the characters and the world (what we get of it at least) and I loved the parts of the story that made sense (mostly earlier NB and OG stuff). So much potential but they've been squandering it for a while.

I'm going to keep writing for the fandom, and I'm still playing NB to follow the main storyline when I have time, but I'm definitely not as active with any other aspects of the game. I rarely do/read the events, only to quickly gain XP and collect the DP. I don't use the Wanderer's Whereabouts, or the Deviltube thing, and even the Devilgram stories have been lacking a certain something for me lately. Really I'm just watching the main story hoping they'll eventually Get To The Point. But even then I'm not sure how long I'll last if they keep dragging things out.

Anyway... it is what it is, amiright? Either Solmare will see how this is received and get their shit together, or.... they won't. I'm not really holding my breath either way.

but the thing is,

i don't believe diavolo is "canonically yandere"

and here is why:

first off, those admissions stated are not unique to "yandere" characters only. multiple characters have expressed wanting to keep mc to themselves, and given the chance, they would proclaim so. it can't be a fact contributing to diavolo = yandere if other "non-yandere" characters (say, mammon or asmodeus, or perhaps simeon) would or have already proclaimed such things. Obey Me is a romance oriented game. It is quite normal to hear/read lines of the sort, no matter the character archetype. I've played otome/gacha games including Solmare's games since back when they were still Shall We Date. edit: —and therefore encountered those same lines multiple times.

second, his character song. i genuinely believe his character song isn't meant to suggest that he's yandere. i didn't feel any of the sort. if anything, diavolo's character song instead feels likd desperation. like he was doing his best to sell himself to mc.

Even the chorus feels like he was trying to convince mc and him both.

"Fear nothing and move forward." seems to be a message to himself, a reminder that despite possible, suggested fears of not being chosen, not being the closest to the player in comparison to the brothers, especially Lucifer.

It's very hard to explain and I probably should be doing my research paper instead but technically, he is the number 1. He's the prince of Devildom. He has the authority, the riches, the power. He's royalty. But compared to Lucifer and the brothers, he has barely any way to connect to mc. Not to mention that Lucifer is the more present and active forefront.

It's also like...like he thinks he needs to exchange luxury or material things to be loved.

Honestly I don't think I have enough non-neurodivergent braincells to be able to express my views on the matter clearly and concisely, so this ends here.

edit: i am back from first major hurdle of research study. right now i am not playing obey me. the way the writers handled the story and the individual character depths of all the male leads disappointed me, so i only come back for fanfic ideas because yes, despite what has happened in the story, i still love the characters. so yeah. as of now, these opinions are of what i know from the character song, and from side/event stories as well as devilgram and chats. before stopping, i did play obey me for the main story for three years though.

point one: it was not diavolo who was specifically responsible for mc's estrangement into devildom. mc was chosen by random and complete bad luck, mentioned by lucifer in satan's arc. even then, choosing did not fall under diavolo's responsibilities, but lucifer's. pretty irresponsible way to choose an exchange student, especially a human one, but diavolo wasn't even meant to be a dateable character back in the earliest part of the main story for it to suggest that diavolo has yandere tendencies. the only thing that implies is that demons overestimated humans and their ability to adapt/acclimate or simply did not care. however, this argument is only viable if the yanking mc from home thing one is referring to is not from season 1.

point two: the definition of a yandere is exactly, word for word, this: Yandere is a portmanteau of two Japanese words. The first is yanderu, which means “to be sick,” and the second is deredere, used here for “lovestruck.” A yandere is often sweet, caring, and innocent before switching into someone who displays an extreme, often violent or psychotic, level of devotion to a love interest

here's a longer definition:

point three: there's a distinct difference between yandere and somewhat possessive or jealous.

point four: barbatos is def much more of a canon yandere than diavolo, and i am not against fanon/headcanon/au yandere! diavolo.

solmare I swear if you make mammon have ONE more intimate moment with MC only to be interrupted by the usual perps (Lucifer, Levi and Luke) (damn Ls) I will explode. ESPECIALLY if it ends with mammon going “AAA evil brothers😡angry chiwawa🤣anyway I gotta skiddadle!” And running away. Every time that happens an angel loses its wings

Tell me why you give mammon character development in a scene, we have a deep chat, you can smooch him or whatever, and the whole 2-lesson-arc has been leading up to this moment of vulnerability and hopefully character development only to make him run away and lose literally everything that this mini-arc taught him. Surely. SURELY there is a point in time between making a pact with him and like idk the end of season 3 when mammon realises his relationship (platonic, romantic, whatever it is for your MC) with MC is more important than Grimm to him. Not entirely, because that’s a core part of his character, just a point where he realises “hm I’m going to TRY paying Levi back so he stops interrupting me! And try calm down for lucifer so I can spend more time with MC instead of hanging from the ceiling!” Right? RIGHT??!!!?!

We see time and time AGAIN how much he cares for MC (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong, but he’s one of the only 2 brothers who hasn’t directly/intentionally endangered MC and I THINK he was the only one who seemed distraught at their death??? Last one is probs wrong) but he still finds a way to abandon MC every time someone’s shouts “MAMMONNNN” or starts chasing him. Like, bro. I get you’re a wimp with crippling debt but the LEAST you could do is drag MC with you so that they don’t get in trouble instead since he clearly cares for them😞🙏

And him running away being for comedic purposes isn’t even a valid reason for it to happen because there are funny ways for him to NOT just abandon us. 1) he could hide instead. There is a scene I believe is in season 2(?) where he’s in his room with MC, Levi storms in and they hide in his car. Not sure if they made a funny thing out of hiding in a car, but that scene led to Levi saying that he couldn’t smell mammon and meme on calling him a blood hound. Idk about you but I for one certainly har-har’d at that. Plus, hiding would be a nice change of pace from mammons usual running away. Option 2) Mammon could drag us with him??? I don’t play events or devilgram because I’m too lazy and poor for that but I’m like 99% sure that in the main story of OG game, mammon does NOT bring us with him any time he’s running away, which is weird because he’s always yelling that we should be with him cause he’s “our first” (his words not mine obv) but I don’t remember any scenes that he brings us with him when he needs to leave?? I would LOVE to be wrong on that part so please correct me if I’m wrong but I sadly don’t think I am. Option 3) Picture this: mammon gets spooked, screeches because he’s a wuss, he runs away (whether it be from a person, witch, whatever is after him) only to realise: “Wait! I left my favourite person behind! Whoops!” And he runs back and grabs MC (Maybe by the sleeve like a toddler, maybe by the hair, maybe he even princess carries them because yes) that’s it. That’s the whole thing. Mammon drags/carries MC after forgetting them. You could even expand on that and have him apologise for it, or get all flustered and deny he forgot MC, or act all proud like he saved MC as if he isn’t the reason MC is in danger or was left behind in the first place MMMITS SO GOOD SOLMARE FEED ME

All I’m asking is for solmare to PLEASE let us have a long, well-written and intimate moment with mammon that isn’t interrupted, or if it is he TAKES US WITH HIM or COMES RIGHT BACK FOR US when he runs away. I beg

The only time I can think of Barbatos showing genuine attraction to MC is in one of the most recent lessons, when (IIRC) MC tells him to pull himself together during a difficult situation.

Having no interest from him otherwise makes me uncomfortable reading his side content because it is so incongruous and blatantly false. Starting the game, he was equal with Lucifer for me, but feeling like he was lying to my face after every successful Surprised Guest interaction kinda killed it for me.

If the Devilgrams and what not had maintained his emotional distance, I would still like him because he would feel like a *potential* love interest, not a demon speaking sweet nothings to seduce a meaningless human into giving up their soul.

Lucifer became my fixation because his romantic lines can be a little cringe and over-the-top but they feel genuine.

I don’t think I got there yet. Now that I think about it I felt the same way with the surprise guest interactions until I played his birthday event. From there it felt like it made sense because I thought they were gonna make him another romantic interest at some point in the plot, but if they didn't I totally agree with you. All the Devilgrams and extras would be inconstent with the plot if they made Barbatos act like he's into MC while they're not gonna deepen their relationship later in the story. Unless their idea is to make him act as he would act with just anyone to trick them into selling their soul as you said, but that wouldn't make sense either since he doesn't want MC's soul as they're needed for Diavolo's project of creating peace between the three worlds. In the lesson where they kiss (if you choose to) and he says he kinda gets why everyone likes MC it feels out of nowhere, because the moment before he said he didn't feel anything for them but curiosity and the moment after he might begin to like them just because they kissed him mmh. Unless he was lying and just being polite:/

And Lucifer is so down bad, like a 1800s poet in love with a married woman down bad. Or dude hopelessly in love with a gangster's partner down bad. He's so dramatic, I love him. I get Gomez Addams vibes from him. His relationship development with MC definitely makes sense, kinda like a one sided enemies to lovers where he couldn’t stand MC and saw them as a possible threat, while MC was just like “I live in his dude’s house and he gives me the evil eye if we happen to make eye contact...he also threatened to poison me with tea but it’s pretty cool otherwise”. Also considering that while he was threatening MC’s life and acting like they were nothing but an annoying chore he was probably bothered by the fact that he was developing feelings for them. With Barbatos it’s not really like that because he’s pretty indifferent to MC except for some rare little moments where he appreaciates them. I would assume they’re going to develop their relationship later as they did with Diavolo or I hope so because I’m really interested in his character. If they do, the Devilgrams would make sense as well. Like if we read Lucifer’s before we went on with the plot they would have felt inconsistent as well because the story didn’t go that way yet for what we knew. I don’t know if this makes sense, that’s just my understanding of it all ‘till lesson 60, but I could be wrong.

anyway back to the OG diagrams, you can see i only have 2 envy cards that i use, despite me having that sin the most (along with greed). whats not in this document is my beloved Luke 21 B-day SSR, my strongest card TO DATE. STILL. its somehow way stronger than any other UR so theres not really a need for envy cards all that much =w=bb

Aside from levi, the only other guy who's card i use more than not is simeon. I think thats because 2 of his UR's (the ones i still use) go al the way back to when i first started. so, early ur's, very well leveled from the start, and i just kept using em.

you'll see that i have more cards of Levi that i use than that there are actual sins. this is because im a sucker for him and want his pretty cards to be leveled. maybe they have an outfit, maybe its a UR+ that i want to replace a UR, something like that.

also. yes i have a total of 75 cards, out of which only 27 i really use. sue me. i like collecting the pretty pictures.

I could make another infograb on whether or not ive read the devilgram but lemme tell you... those'll look very two-sided. literally every Levi & Belphegor cards'll be there and MAYBE 2 other singulair cards from the beginning days.

i think it'd be fun to keep track of how strong each card is but that is WAY too much to do without automisation. none of this is linked to my actual game im putting it all in by hand. so imagine having to change it any time a card levels up.... PAIN.

Yeeeeeeessssss!!

All it takes is someone saying his name a certain way and that switch flips inside him, the dunce cap is off and it's time to really come through. Like Lucifer did during I think it's S2 and 3, when he sends his crows out. He could of shirked it off, pretended he needed to bribe the crows or he didn't care enough.

But his brother needed him. And he knew it was serious.

There's a reason why Lucifer chose Mammon in the beginning and it wasn't just for the comedic effect: Mammon really is capable and strong when he needs to be. When he cares, and you're absolutely right! His brothers are so used to being let down by him constantly by him giving into his urges and being greedy/sneaky/pathetic for money, that they often forget that he's got what it takes.

Like during S1 when Levi has Goldie, Mammon instantly drops to his knees and begs and pleads for it when in fact he's defacto stronger than Levi and could literally just take it. He was willing to subjucate himself to MC in order to get his card back and to Levi that was throwing out his demon pride and any self respect he had to stomp on. They've seen this type of behavior over and over again. He's stolen from them, from the house and saw him constantly punished for failing to hide it from Lucifer.

And they became very vocal about it. Mammon devolved from the glue to the black sheep of the family until the events before the Exchange Program and he took the brunt of it for who knows how long. 260 at the very least as it's the time that he stole from Levi in S1 and Levi has been hounding him to pay it back, but because he's got no real incentive to do so (like Lucifer forcing him) he refused to do it.

And it's such a conundrum! A confident Mammon (I think anyway) would be a totally different person. Over time, his brothers insults have really gotten to him, and he doubts his own capabilities now! Over time, people calling you dumb, scum and worse will wear on our own self confidence and thought process. Even now in the current season, it's less as often but the younger brothers still doubt Mammon's capacity for getting shit done. And there been more than once he's said things that give a glimpse past the dumbass armor to show that their words really cut him deep and left wounds.

Even at his big ol age, he runs away from home when they go too far and he stays gone for days until he remembers he needs something or has worn out his Grimm or welcome somewhere and comes sneaking back, or his brothers go looking for him to collect him.

Before MC came along, no one would even consider apologizing, or what his feelings would be. But after a bit of lover therapist exposure, they've changed enough to where it's natural without intervention..... eventually.

We can see throughout the game, many times he's jumped to conclusions and finished their sentences or guessed what they were going to insult him with. Sure, comedic effect again but only for the reader. For Mammon, he was conditioned that the people he loved most, thought the worst of him, and like you said! It's like he decided fuck it, they're safe, i can be as bad as they think I am. It's my turn to give in and do what I want to do. At any cost.

Take the witches for example, anyone whose read the Devilgram story knows really why the witches hound him for money left and right. Mammon tells MC why, and Lucifer is in on the story, but none of the others know. And he makes 0 attempt to clear his name by telling them?! They all know witches hound him for money like sugar babies, or that he owes them a debt that Lucifer saved him from--and he's got 0 interest in trying to convince them of anything else!

He puts on airs of "oh Im so smart and great and everyone respects me and loves me and I'm very important" but he also just...allows his brothers to think he's the worst 🥹

I also wonder if his restraint against his sin and urges is why he goes so off the walls now. He knows it's a kinda torture to go without it, and has little to no self control anymore.

I remember hearing somewhere, again it may have been you lol that Mammon has the better control over his emotions and anger. He's the least angry or prone to outburst brother out of the 7 of them. That doesn't mean he doesn't get jealous, or angry but it's super fleeting. He's just loud for a minute is all

You could make him mad and then 2 seconds later he's forgotten about it or moved on. However, he's shackled to his sin in a way the others aren't. He risks personal injury via Lucifer to get a temporary high from gambling whereas the others very rarely have bouts of sin that go that far.

Sure, Asmo and Mammon are why they have a curfew and room inspections but no one pushes the boundaries as much as Mammon does. No one makes as much trouble and is strung upside down as much 😂

However, Lucifer mentioned back in like S2 or 3 about Mammon's car, and how proud he was of Mammon for working as hard as he could to afford it after they first fell.

I can't recall if it was his modeling job, but we know he's not above menial work like cook, waiter, street vendor, or work like content creator, fashion advice. But most of his money making attempts are little more than hair brained schemes.

Granted a lot of his get rich quick schemes do fail, and are preposterous, so it's easy to see why his brothers doubt him at most times. But they end up taking it entirely too far.

Mammon's lore for his sin says that if he's good with someone, they'll always have cash, but if he breaks it off someone they'll never have Grimm again.

Mammon tends to go through lucky streaks at casinos and where he will absolutely win against some people (his brothers, Solomon, the angels etc) but he will lose out against others (Lucifer for example) and I can't help but wonder if his self esteem is at play here a bit.

Lucifer is perfect and never makes mistakes, Mammon is full of himself vocally, but anyone whose played knows it's hot air. I truly believe that he thinks that he can't beat him. Because it's been mentioned multiple times about how when money is involved, it will be his in the end. That's why no one wants to get involved with him where luck is concerned, money is the prize and/or something they want. (an object worth money or time with MC) cause either he will win outright, or be dumb and try to rig it.

Like the Seraphina figure Levi wanted, Mammon was just lucky enough to get it and wanted to put the screws to Levi and denied giving him the thing until MC came around.

Lucifer however, he always loses against and I can't recall a time where he's tried to rig a game against him, probably because of 2 reasons: he wants to beat him fair and square, but also it's fucking Lucifer, of course he'll know if he tried to cheat.

I can't remember where it was mentioned, in fact it might have been one of your posts but the Devildom sees Mammon much in the way his brothers should. He's calm, cool and collected. He cares for others and wants the people he loves to be safe, happy and well cared for. He's a capable demon and good looking to boot.

Sure, he's not the best speaker, and his manners arent up to Barbatos and Lucifer demand, but he's a aristocratic demon with power and connections whose doing the best he can. Lots of lesser demons do respect him (as long as he doesn't owe them money) and he's respected and feared outside the HOL household and it always throws everyone except for Lucifer and Diavolo for a loop.

I really hope they show the devolving behavior as Lucifer takes up more the responsibility and they became comfortable, that Mammon shuts off his brain and decides to be the family's black sheep.

I also and curious to see how it's going to be effected with MC being present during that time. What will be the circumstances in which they go back in time? Are the boys expecting them? Is it by accident (*cough* Solomon *cough*) or does something bad happen that sends them back.

Imagine all the hijinks that will happen because MC knows the brothers as they are right now. Knowing their favorite drink or snack or things that will happen before they happen when they've just met. Knowing their self deprecating tactics and schemes and tricks. Will it change the boys forever on the other end of the timeline because they have their therapist earlier?

Maybe Mammon will have a shoulder to lean on, seeing as everyone's leaning so heavily on him in the beginning, maybe it'll foster some confidence and self esteem and we'll see his capable side more often. Or they'll remain totally unphazed by it all and all will return to normal when MC either Barbatos has to step in again to fix the timeline shootoff or Michael does his weird little divine intervention thing like he did before.

Can't wait to see Mammon being the only one who has any of his shit together

Emotional rock of his traumatised family, who had to repress any of his own feelings about what just happened so he could look after all of them to the point that now in present time when anyone tries to bring up his own issues he deflects them.

I hope MC being dumped into the past means we can finally talk about Mammon's issues since he's literally the only brother whose issues they've hinted at but never explored (eg: how he said he doesn't hold a grudge against the celestial realm but became uncharacteristically cruel when discussing the celestial realm with Luke in S3 & uncharacteristically serious when discussing it with Simeon in S4).

There are even times when they deliberately avoided talking about Mammon's issues despite exploring the others' problems (eg: in S2 when the brothers were all fighting with each other and Lucifer & Mammon's fight was the only one that wasn't solved)

I have. 7 of them so far.

I'm going for Banner Lucifer next, but I have to draw a couple things first.

My onion (without spoilers):

Diavolo (from banner): This one features a very needy MC who can't be left alone and needs to be taken care of uwu. Don't vibe. 2/10

Barbatos: The first two give me 2nd hand embarrasment, I can't exactly put into words why. Like I was gonna roll with having Barbatos take a break, the rest is just... yeah I'm not replaying those two. Uuuuhhhh cw for people who don't like inebriated person stuff in this one. Kiinda questionable/10

Simeon SSR: The cheese is so strong in this one. Cheese drenched in honey, overly sweet all around. 5/10

Simeon UR: Less sweet, still tender. He's just like this, huh? 6/10

Satan: Favorite, by a long shot. The premise is good, there is a whole gram for silly fun antics, and his words at the end resonated with me in a way I didn't expect this game to, and hadn't done so far. MC isn't a whiny babey idiot. 15/10

Solomon: Listen I know they get some leeway with these things, it shouldn't be taken seriously. But the inconsistencies... "you can't go back to HoL like this" mate, Beel was there, he lives there too and he is in the same "predicament"... either help him too or think of something else. The rest was good. He's such a nerd. Good MC too. 7/10

Lucifer (from box): He's a stick in the mud. It is an acquired taste. I wish MC could play it cool for once with him, but then nothing would happen. Lucifer/10
