Autumn is slowly creeping up on us, and so is the beginning of the new school year; finding motivation in a repetitive day-to-day life can be challenging, so why not try to romanticize it a little? <3

Make Pinterest boards to visualize what you would like your school year to look like.

Have a proper morning routine. Great way to reduce stress! I should start sleeping more hahaha

Bring a snack to school. So you don't get hungry in class and lose focus.

Aesthetic study ambience. There are very nice streamers on twitch and other platforms which you can study with.

Get some new school supplies. Something that matches your aesthetic! :)

Make playlists with songs that help you focus. I like lofi or classical music, depending on my mood.

Try not to fall behind. Do your homework in time so the work doesn't pile up.

School is not a fashion show? Well, now it is.

Bring a book to school. My favourites are police novels.

Make your bed every morning before school. Then, your room will feel a lot calmer when you get home.

Drop fake friends. Let's be real; toxic friends ruin the vibe.

Start a journal. You can write about your day at school.

Pretend you're in a movie. I always imagined myself at Gilmore Girls show; it helped me a lot <3

Light Candles while studying. It creates a super cosy atmosphere.

Study in small cafes and enjoy a tea or coffee. vibes.

Join a club so you can meet new people and make friends. I still looking for one that matches my vibe.

Take notes in class. Taking aesthetically pleasing notes helped me a lot and can be so much fun!

Add jewellery and small accessories to your outfit. In case you wear a uniform :)

Watch shows that motivate you. Like Gilmore Girls or Gossip Girl!

Study dates. Meet up with your friends and study as a group.

Take more pictures. I love taking candid photos through out the day!

in the terrible two au, what would the gang & kids wear?

techno knits and he knows how to do basic sewing, mending hems and what not.

so at first, it's whatever they can get their hands on.

but once they settle in, techno knits the twins sweaters. they're not identical, but he still knits them those letter sweaters, in their favorite colors. he patches up pants and shirts, taking them in and then making belts out of rope or ribbon.

juniper really wants a dress so he's determined to learn how make one from scratch but for right now, she's gonna have to make do with a pillow case dress (which are actually super cute). scout loves wearing scarves and bows which is a pretty easy fix.

as for the adults, techno gave up his old outfit in exchange for simple pants and shirts. he knitted himself some sweaters so sometimes he wears those as well! he finds a straw hat at a village and won't take it off whenever he's outside. (also like to think that in trying to learn how to sew for the kids, he makes himself a skirt or two and likes it 'cause it's very freein' dream, don't laugh at me.)

he knitted sweaters for dream, too, but in the beginning he's very paranoid and rarely takes off his armor. dream also keeps himself covered as best as he can, even when it's hot, because he doesn't want techno to catch onto the fact he's been doing experiments on himself. once he relaxes, however, he will wear the sweater techno made him and it's when he starts hanging out in a tank top and shorts on the hottest days that techno thinks he's gonna be alright.

so this sounds like it should be pretty obvious but nowadays, since school uniform is often bought online, the sizes might not always be the most accurate and may not compliment your body type as well as you'd like.

what i'd say for this is when buying new uniform always always always try and get the exact measurements and try your best to get one that compliments your body type as best you can for maximum comfort and maximum confidence ♡

i personally have my jumper / sweater a little bigger than needed just because it's comfy and it looks cute but go with whatever makes you the most comfortable and suits your style the most ♡

i know a few people who've got their uniform tailored to their size specifically and it helps a lot or they've just made little changes here and there, so i would definitely recommend this as one of the most basic things you'd need to start with.

ur hair is SO important because it can make a world of difference when it comes to accessorising even the most bland, boring outfits, in and out of school. i have a pinterest board of hair ideas and ways to do ur hair for in and out of school, but i'll list some ideas:

♡ hair clips! pearls, ribbons, colours, whatever you'd like! <3 ♡ half up half down is iconic, obviously! bonus points if you do half up half down pigtails, i do these all the time w ribbons in <3 ♡ claw clips! claw clips always they're so iconic and so cute ♡ space buns and braids of any kind are absolutely adorable. twin hairstyles are the cutest ever idc

okay believe me this makes SO much of a difference. i've been wearing black knee high ribbon socks and mary janes since i started high school and i look so bare without them. the impact that the little details can have on bland british school uniform is INSANE. lace, frills, small ribbons, mary janes, boots, any cute shoes that are allowed and fit the dress code will do ♡

i'd also recommend leg warmers if they're allowed! we aren't allowed them here but i've seen uniforms that are and they look absolutely adorable ♡

🎀𓂃 ࣪˖ jewelry, jewelry, jewelry!

so at my school we aren't allowed jewelry (but everyone wears it anyway) but i have found a way to improvise. everybody knows jewelry is a gorgeous way to uplift any outfit and make it look fancier and prettier and much more glamorous and it makes no different for school uniform!

if you aren't allowed jewelry then i'd also say if you're good at being sneaky to hide it under long sleeves or collars when around teachers and then just wear it the rest of the time. i do this personally because i've been doing it for years but this is not encouragement to get you into trouble! do not do this if you have a super super strict school and / or can't hide it well!

oh my gosh i have this absolutely adorable bag for school ,, my bsf @gy0th-yawnzzn knows 🙏 having a cute bag makes things so much more fun. the amount of times i've had both teachers and students compliment my bag is crazy. ur whole life lives in there throughout the day so naturally ur gonna want it to be cute. keychains, ribbons, pearls, beads, bracelets, photos, charms, anything you can find and anything you like! my personal inspo:

along with being unique and individual and personal to you, having cute little trinkets and bracelets and handmade things can also make things so much cuter and give you your own kind of flair, as it were. i personally add ribbons to everything and cutify EVERYTHING i own cuz it just makes things way more enjoyable (like our school has special planners given to us and i decorate mine w gems and stickers) and wear bracelets i've made to school too! this is handy for individuality and just the little extra if ur super commited ig ♡

matching your uniform alterations to the seasons is so cute and effective and makes you feel so much cuter and more in tune to the world around you, and gives you a sort of signature style too.

for example, in the summertime:

♡ girly sunglasses (i have this pair of heart sunglasses and i absolutely adore them, i wear them everywhere)

♡ cute colour coordinated hats to match uniform

♡ shorter skirts, school dresses or shorts

♡ hats, scarves, gloves, cute coats are a MUST

i had a Vision for this design it was (as i put it to a friend) a "drowned love-struck sailor but also a guy that seems like he Lives at the beach but he's so ethereal you SWEAR he's a mermaid or something". like sirens and sailors but more emphasis on the sailor part

here's my moodboard/reference board!! i knew i wanted puffy sleeves and super flowy fabric but i wasn't sure what Else to add so i went to pinterest (of course) and saw like the fishnets and the pearls and ya i went insane. i didnt end up adding any pearls or as many ruffles in the final design but i think the whole beach/ocean aesthetic got across pretty well!!

for colors: the only thing i had in my head was WHITE FLOWY SHIRT because i love drawing them and it just Fits the vibe i was going for. the blue gradient on the sleeves makes me think of drowning? like being in the ocean for so long that blue is just a Part of you now even though that doesn't really happen its the VIBE of it okay. being engulfed by blue being engulfed by the sea nd you're drowning..... aughh. also the collar is a type of scallop collar because i wanted it to be different from a normal white button-up okay. a lot of my design process is Is This Cool and How Can This Be "Functional" (either in design [adding color or shape] or use [actual function])

there's also the long sash for more color and more flowy action!! and those pants are also supposed to be loose and flowy you just. dont see them in the final piece lol.

another thing about the colors: i tried to contrast from the blues i was putting in the sleeves and the sash with the warm browns that you can see in the net shirt and the ribbons on the sleeves and the net-like accessory on the left leg and the addition of nets Really adds to the whole theme that Deep Into You has going on of being "drawn in to the point of drowning" and the whole sailor thing too

couple notes: the net shirt would be like a tank top and i originally was thinking of having sandals for the shoe choice instead of what i have now and honestly now that im thinking about it again sandals Would be cool. but for an enstars outfit that they have to dance in? those shoes are fine actually

about the jewelry: i added the star clip a little late but it's supposed to act as a larger version of a tie clip? or like a brooch but with More stuff on it. also YES the earrings are mussel shells (i didn't know it was a mussel shell when i drew it i was referencing just a shell i had on hand) but aughh like mussel shells have so many pretty colors in them theyre like iridescent and i wasn't able to put that much detail in them at such a scale which is sad but its ok i think it still turned out really beautiful... i should draw shells more.

HALLO i was wondering how you get out of art block?? your art is very expressive and i absolutely adore all your colour choices and designs. ive been having trouble with art block for a very long time now so i’m just trying to ask other artists how they get outta it <3 i hope u have a niceday yesyes

OUGHH HELLO!!! holy crap, art block is the WORST. everytime i encounter it, its always hard to beat it D: theres days where i feel like i WANT to draw something so badly but my brain just. cant function

i dont have a definitive solution for art block, but whenever i do, i have a few ways to cope with it. sometimes they work, sometimes they dont? but whenever the time comes and im just sitting at a brick wall, i got some survival tips

1. come up with random silly ideas,, it could be anything: random words, phrases, scenarios. they can be as nonsensical as you want them to be. during art blocks, my mind is completely dry with ideas, so i always try to compile a list of ideas from the past so i can come back to them later on. i try to come up with random duos or something as simple as “mcdonalds date”. i might not work on these now, but maybe some random lil word can spark that creativity in me

heres my art ideas list… i have some ideas that are like 8 months old in there BGAHSGA, but i save em there till i feel like working on them

2. STRUGGLE DOODLES!! i like to make a bunch of doodles of random scenes that i think about in my head. doodle practically anything. your favorite person, favorite animal, something you see outside your window, frogs?

heres a few of mine. most of the time, i NEVER get to finishing them. however, during art blocks sometimes i like to go back to really old, incomplete guidelines and add some new, random addition to it. sometimes i forget what my sketches were exactly meant to be? and i guess thats the fun about interpreting stuff and giving things a new spin to them. during art blocks, i HATE trying to come up with new drawings from a blank canvas (since i dont even have any ideas to begin with). but working on old wips, or completely revising them? sometimes these can be super fun :]

[and bonus tip!! and this is like, a golden tip that everyone loves: going back to super old drawings and redrawing them!! its my favorite. i absolutely love seeing the improvement ive made over the years. its also pretty easy to work with since you dont have to stress about coming up with completely new ideas from a blank slate! GAHH i should do that more often.]

3. search up your favorite fanart, go on pinterest, anything. i love this one.

search up some really cool photos of outfits, aesthetic backgrounds?? i find myself searching up a lot of fanart of fandoms im in, any word with “aesthetic” at the end, casino aesthetic, anything! pinterest has always been my go-to platform to find ideas. i go on the app and not even a second in, im blown with all of this cool art n character designs. i have a problem saving almost everything i find into my boards, but at least i saved a chock-full of ideas i can work with. :)

a thing about me: ive never been the type to try and force my art block out. whenever im facing a block, its extremely difficult for me to come up with things on my own. sometimes i let it wait for a while, but that tends to take a REALLY long time. D: if i dont feel like drawing, or doodling, or really doing anything? i always like scrolling through really pretty photos. that tends to spark a small idea in me i can work with, and sometimes i manage to get out of art block from there. it starts out small, then over time it gets even better.

these photos especially gave me WAY more motivation than i ever had to draw wilbur during an art block moment. i started off making small random doodles of him in a neon city and over time it kinda turned into a fixation for neon cities. i LOVE imagining characters in random photos i find on pinterest.

FUCK! You saved too much random shit and dell down the rabbit hole of pins. You have cats, grandma cookies, and old screen shots from tumblr with an ifunny logo in the corner along with outfits and hair ideas all cluster fucked on your profile! What do you do?

You make boards or even better sections.

A board is where you have basically like a cork board and you can pin certain shit to. So say you want a board for everything to do with Misha Collins, you create a board and then transfer all your saved pins that have to do with Misha to that board and BOOM! It’s organized now : D

Sections are even better!

To make sections you must first have a board, so say you want to then REALLY organize your Misha Collins board. You then press create sections and then label your sections! So say you want crying misha happy misha or mishapocolypse, all of those sections will now be saved in the Misha Board even MORE organized than before!

Your writing is capable of making me cry, laugh, jump for joy. Truly, I didn’t know what it meant to love writing and want to hold it close to your heart till I read your work. I want to ask how you achieve this. How do you write so well? I would love to write like you, and I just want to hear some words of advise, maybe, if you’re willing to give them?

i will never not feel like i’m the wrong person to ask for writing advice but this ask is so incredibly sweet, and it was one of several asking for advice, and i want to give you anons a bit of what you’re all asking for so i tried my best not to sound too redundant… some of my ideas under the cut :)

i got into writing at a youngish age and probably just got better at it via practice and reading, like many others! writing is definitely a romantic thing for me—not just in the sense that i write romance, but in the sense that for me, writing is and should always come from a place of love. i think all of it should in some way trace back to how we love… i always always try to include a bit of that, and more often i draw from my own experiences and habits, or the people i love and how they speak of/treat/experience love.

in the same vein my experiences always come into play when i write. my love of crosswords, my city, my experiences with boys, female friendships, moving, loneliness, etc—whatever it is, i like drawing from life because it’s an emotion i know and can write the grit of out, narratively speaking

i treat writing like my work is one big vision board… i always scrap and add things at will. i have to suss out passages i know won’t work (and maybe save them for another piece) and add some necessary ones that i find boring to write sometimes.

i love to play with time (this is soo clear i think) i love a non-linear plot, little jumps of time in between as you move forward. on a pragmatic level it works as a context device; on a more emotional level it’s kind of a metaphor for being constantly drawn back to memories that can either encourage the character’s, or keep them from, moving forward — same reason why i like not closing endings. it gives you the opportunity to sit with what you read. AND same reason why i don’t usually do sequels

i am not an outline girl! i’ve tried the schtick a few times, it worked for me until it didn’t. if i do make one, it’s in the middle of writing when i’m faced with a plethora of material that i just need to organize somehow, and i make a rough outline to iron everything out for myself. otherwise i don’t

probably the thing i pay most attention to when i write is dialogue… i like things to sound fluid (esp non-smut because i think with smut u can get away with more suspension of belief haha) and natural and lovely and real, so i take extra time to write stutters/rephrases mid-sentence/um/uh because as opposed to film, u won’t hear them, so i need to convey the emotions somehow! i also love writing out how people talk at the same time, it feels less like a one-on-one, feels realer

if i’m short of inspo i read, i walk, and i listen to music especially movie scores. so impt: i rely more on the instrumental of a song > lyrics when i write. i always imagine: what would i want to play in the background if this scene was happening in a film? i also use pinterest to suss out what an outfit might look like so i can write its description better, a city, a hug, etc

Pinterest board for my aesthetic ideas

These are for me to look at different concepts I want to do with my character. I do not have a main thought on what to do, but my idea is to take different aspects of different outfit concepts and interpreting into my own ideas to add to my model and develop more through these designs. My research has been mostly to intake the amount of different ideas I could create. Making sure to look through ethnicity research, ethics, what perhaps should not be used if I was to make the character family friendly (blood, scars, weapons, etc). I hope to make my character look like a goddess from a kingdom where people would think when they look at her 'wow she is so elegant and beautiful'. I want her to look like someone from royalty in a fantasy world.

Oh to be a girl

There is an art to being pretty. A formula of makeup, outfits, and hair. It seems so simple practically in reach with a few items.

Last year I spent 1.5k on makeup. This year I spent $160 on clothes so far.

I've already lighten my hair just a tinge wanting to do more already. Scrolling through my makeup apps hearting what I believe I need. Adding to cart, scrolling through sites. Every different event or date I need something new, it will all add to the look.

Yet in the mirror I never look pretty enough. Never fitting in to the rest of the bunch and gaggles of girls at the restaurant or event. I scroll through locations photos, search an overall vibe, pinterest outfits for the occasion, date idea, or event, mood board / shoplook it all. Enter key words to google and purchase what I think will be the vibe and fits it all so well only for day of and I never measure up.

My clothes are off, my makeup is wrong, I should have done an updo instead of letting it down, curly would have looked better than straight or vice versa. My eyeliner is too harsh, I should not have added the body glitter. Should have went more modest to cover my thighs in this skirt a bit more.

Very rarely do I fit the image for any place we attend. Very rarely do I beam at the thought of getting it right. Endless days, months ahead, different items I will never understand to get more than just "pretty enough" look. Hours spent on tutorials. Five a.m up and trying different uniques. Everything leads up to even the smallest of days and I never quite measure up.

It was nights like these that made you feel like everything was exactly how it was supposed to be. The window was opened, leaving outside noise from the street to breeze in and blend in with the lo-fi beats playing quietly from Peter’s laptop.

Your legs were tangled under a soft blanket as Peter showed you outfit pictures from his Pinterest board, asking for your opinion. It simply made sense. The world felt at peace.

“No, I don’t think you understand. Orange and teal look really good together, see.” Peter turned his phone around to show you his screen. You squinted at the brightness, but once your eyes adjusted, you burst out laughing.

“Sure, if you want look like Perry the Platypus. Get that away from me.” You shoved his hand away and Peter grinned. He swiped to another picture with the same colours combination, and you shrieked. “Not the brown beanie! Dr. Doofenshmirtz would have a field day with this.”

Peter chuckled. He rose to his feet and tossed his phone next to you on the mattress. “I’m going to the bathroom”, he declared with an air of casualness that made you crack a smile. He was halfway through the doorway when he popped his head back in and asked, “You want anything?”

“From the bathroom?�� You looked up from your phone.

Peter shrugged, the corner of his mouth twitching upward. “Uh-huh.”

You suppressed your smile. “I’m good, thanks.” He gave you another shrug and left the bathroom, whistling a tune you didn’t know.

Not a second later, Peter’s phone gave off a subtle ping. It wasn’t your intention to look, but reflexes made you glance at it from the corner of your eyes. You regretted it instantly. Your shoulders tensed. It was just a text message—nothing scandalous, but the contact name made your stomach drop.

MJ.

Her name popped up on Peter’s phone screen more often than not. You really didn’t want to be bothered. You knew they were only friends, but you could already see the broad smile edging his face as he read the message. You hated where your thoughts had taken you.

Peter trusted you and you wanted to trust him as well, desperately. You demanded yourself to take the high ground. It still felt stupid and your chest caved in just at the thought of Peter grinning at his phone. He barely even answered your texts anymore.

You could already hear the white lies he was going to feed you. But you felt yourself wanting to keep the white lies. At least, that meant getting to keep Peter. All you could do was swallow the lump in your throat and take a deep breath. The world still blurred around you.

“May asked if you’re in the mood for Thai food.” Your gaze shot to Peter’s. He was leaning against the door frame, arms folded over his chest with the same calm expression as before. Don’t ruin this. Keep the peace.

You forced a smile. “Thanks, but I don’t like Thai food.”

Peter frowned at that. “Since when? You’ve always liked it.” He appeared almost affronted before realisation crossed his face. “Oh wait, my bad, MJ liked it. We actually just had Thai food together the other night with Ned.” A private smile curled around his lips at the memory.

“Sounds nice,” you replied weakly. It was all you could say.

Peter didn’t seem to mind. He pushed himself off and strolled over, picking up his phone to see the texts he had just received. He chuckled softly at whatever he had been sent and punched in a reply.

You simply sat there, fiddling with the blanket that suddenly felt too hot. Say something, the voice inside your head demanded. Be exciting. Don’t make him lose interest. Your hands curled into a fist. You felt ridiculous.

“So about Friday night,” you began awkwardly, feeling suddenly very out of place although there was nobody else in the room. Peter’s eyes were bright with delight as he typed away on his phone.

“Hm?” He said, and you had a feeling it wasn’t because he wanted to you to go on. He just wasn’t sure if you had spoken at all.

Your cheeks hurt from forcing a smile. “Are you going to pick me up or should we just meet there?”

Peter’s eyebrows creased. “Meet you where?”

“At the movies,” you said curtly. “We wanted to watch that movie, remember? It was your idea.” The bite in your tone finally made Peter look up. It was like watching a slow car crash.

“Was it?” Peter mused, and you nodded stiffly.

“Oh.”

From somewhere on the street, you heard people arguing. Their sharp voices cut into the room and drilled themselves into your chest. Don’t let this be us. That isn’t us. We’re better than that. You fixed your eyes on the curve of Peter’s neck, concentrating on his breathing to feel like he wasn’t drifting away. In reality, you knew that the ship was already leaving the harbour and there was nothing you could do.

“Sorry,” Peter finally said, lips pursed. “I kind of already made plans with MJ. Her uncle has this cool train collection that she wanted to show me. She told me about it at lunch today and I’m really excited. It’s pretty awesome.”

Your face dropped and he had the good sense to add, “But we can always catch the movie on Monday night if you want.”

“Why not on the weekend?” A part of you dreaded to hear the answer.

Peter didn’t hesitate as he waved you off. “Ned and I wanted to get started on that new Lego set I told you about.” You had no recollection of that. Peter’s eyes flickered to you before another text message came in, demanding his full attention. The sound made you feel nauseous. The ship was a dot now, fading into the horizon while you were still stranded.

“You can join us if you want,” Peter offered with eyes glued to his phone. “MJ is going to bring Thai food, I think.”

You didn’t bother to reply. You felt claustrophobic. Pushing yourself off his bed, you headed for the window. It was already opened by a crack, but you needed fresh air. It was almost overwhelming when you stepped over the window sill and let yourself out onto the fire escape. The stairs screeched but you didn’t care for the noise. What you needed was proof that there was more out there.

The railing was cold as you wrapped your hands around them. Each window across the street was alit in numerous colours. Silhouettes moved in those colours—people with their own lives and sorrows. The world continued to live.

You settled on one of the stairs and stared up at the night sky. No stars, nothing. You were really stuck at the harbour. Peter’s room was glowing in purple thanks to the LED strips you had set up together a few weeks ago. He had bought old vinyl records and you spent the entire night rating them until sunlight pooled in through the curtains. It all felt like a pipe dream now.

You didn’t know how long you’d been sitting outside by yourself. All you knew were the colour blocks of windows, shifting in and out of blurriness. You had been too busy watching the ship sail away that you only now realised how much you had starved yourself. One good night wasn’t going to change that. Your mind was just really good at leaving out the bad parts.

“Here you are.” Peter’s voice caught you off guard. You turned away, wiping your tearstained cheeks hastily as he watched you with knitted brows. “I just came to tell you that I invited Ned and MJ over. I hope that’s fine.”

When you didn’t reply, Peter stepped out and sat on the window sill. “You okay?”

You couldn’t help but roll your eyes. “Do I look okay to you?”

“Well,” he said, “You’ve been acting weird all week, so…I’m not sure”

“I have been acting weird?” You echoed.

Peter hesitated but lifted his shoulder in a half shrug. “Yeah, but you’re always smiling, so I just assume you’re all right.”

“You can’t be serious,” you said bitterly, tucking your hands under your thighs to stop them from shaking. “Just look what we’ve become. You can’t even tell anymore if I’m putting on a fake smile.”

“What are you talking about?” He cocked his head to the side.

“Oh, you know.” You waved your hand at nothing. “Air pollution, climate change, everything and nothing these days. But you wouldn’t know, would you.”

“Y/N,” Peter said with an edge to his voice. “Are you going to tell me what this is really about?”

You hadn’t realised that you had started pacing until his question made you halt and whip around. There was acid in your tone as you snapped, “Don’t you miss me at all?”

“What?” Peter looked stumped. “We see each other every day at school. You’re literally standing in front of me right now.”

You scoffed and sat back down on the stairs. “Love really does make people blind,” you murmured and stared at the sky. Maybe it was going to rain.

Peter exhaled sharply and knelt before you, lowering your chin to look you in the eye. He thought he could find an answer in them, but you knew that if he’d been blind to it all this time, he wasn’t going to see it now. “I don’t know what you want me to say,” he admitted, and your chest ached.

You wrapped your arms around yourself. “I want you. That’s all I wanted.”

“Wanted? You have me.” Peter pressed his lips together. “You have me right now, Y/N.”

“I don’t.” You couldn’t help but laugh bitterly. “MJ has you. She’s had you for a while now, and I’m just here watching you both from afar.”

Peter opened his mouth, most likely wanting to deny it, but no sounds came out. He simply stared and stared and stared. Your heart was racing. There was no way back, so you went on, “I don’t care if you’re just friends. I really don’t care, because it hurts just as much knowing that I still let you treat me like that. I miss you and you’re sitting right in front of me. And you know what the worst part is?”

Memories flooded your mind, bricking you like thorns. You devoured them, hungrily, because you were used to living on crumbs. Peter holding you in his arms. Peter looking tenderly after your wounds and kissing your tears. Peter turning sorrow into bliss until you were drunk on laughter and the sky was dusted in stars.

A sad smile hung to your lips. “I still think the world of you. All those nights when I had prayed for someone like you. Someone who could be my safe person and I could be theirs—I thought I had that with you.”

“You do,” Peter hissed, and at once you wondered where he found the strength to believe his own lies. He sighed. “I promise you, you did. It’s just…” Your throat went dry as he bit his tongue. “It’s not something you can control, okay? Maybe you’re just not my only safe person anymore. It’s…it’s not a big deal.” Peter’s gaze dropped as your breath caught.

You were glad you were sitting. There was no doubt that your knees would’ve given out otherwise. His confession felt like a punch to the gut. That small, pathetic voice inside your head screamed and trashed, denying everything he’d just said. A part of you was always so hopeful—Peter used to love that about you.

Remember, it tried to reason, he promised he would never hurt you. Remember how it felt to have his arms around you. It couldn’t have been a lie. None of it could’ve been a lie. You squeezed your eyes shut.

“You’re not actually sorry,” you heard yourself say. “You’re just saying that to feel good about yourself. If you were sorry, you would’ve never made all those promises—” You didn’t have it in yourself to continue. No words would’ve done you justice anyway. “If you’re just going to keep hurting me, then leave me alone.”

Something dark flared in his brown eyes. “Leave you alone?” asked Peter incredulously. “This is stupid and you know it. All of this, just because I’m friends with MJ. Don’t you think it’s a little ridiculous? We’re just friends. There’s no reason for you to get paranoid.”

“I’m being paranoid now?” Your eyes narrowed.

“That’s what I would call it, yes.”

“Then tell me this.” You jumped to your feet. “Last week, when Mr. Harrison took points off my assignment because I supposedly handed it in too late, why didn’t you speak up for me? You were there, you knew I handed it in time. All I needed was for you to tell him the truth, but you didn’t say a damn thing. Now I’m failing that class, and you know why this is the first time you’re hearing about this?”

Peter remained silent, but his eyes flickered, and the crease between his brows was evidence enough.

“Because you were too distracted giggling with MJ in the back. You didn’t even notice when I stormed out of that room, so don’t lie to yourself, Peter. You haven’t been by my side in a while now.”

You shook your head when Peter averted his gaze. Of course, he had nothing to say. Both of you knew it wasn’t just about that class. It was about the missed calls, the empty words, and all the times he had stood you up and let you down. At least he respected you enough to not deny it. No more white lies.

“See, this is the thing,” you began, swinging your leg over the window sill to step inside the room. You faced Peter and waited until his gaze drifted to yours. “You gave me your word and I was stupid enough to believe you. I trusted you. It was supposed to be you and me against the world, but you sat back and watched it beat me down because you were too busy falling in love with somebody else.”

Peter’s expression shifted and you turned your back to him. Seeing his frustration replaced by realisation was something you knew you couldn’t stomach.

So you made to leave. It was only when you were halfway through the room that you recognised the feeling simmering in your gut as something a bit different than resentment. You looked back over your shoulder, eyebrows lowered, and struggled to find your voice.

“Peter?”

It was barely a whisper, but you knew he heard you. He tore his gaze from the floor and looked at you. Wild storms were trapped in his eyes, an ocean rising. It was devasting to look at.

But it was then that you realised, that although Peter had never cheated on you, his brown guilty eyes still made him a traitor. You took a deep breath.

“Just don’t treat her how you treated me,” was all you said. And with that, you were gone.

14. “That’s legal now?”

“Ready?”

“Ready!” the guys call back to Julie. They’re in the studio, patiently waiting for the surprise she wanted to show them. She was eager about something when she came home from school and told them she couldn’t practice on Saturday. They might’ve been bummed had she not been bouncing with excitement. Alex had smiled fondly at her; excited Julie was his favorite Julie.

She promised to show them what was happening Saturday before leaving, and now they’re eager themselves.

Julie throws open both studio doors with a type of dramatic flare that Alex can respect. She saunters in wearing a gorgeous golden dress with lace shoulders, a sweetheart neckline, and a hem stops just above her knee, matching heels clicking across the floor. Her hair bounces against her shoulders: big and curly and gorgeous, like always. She’s wearing red lipstick, and her eyeliner is sharp and precise; Alex thinks it’s called a cat eye. There’s so much lingo he still needs to catch up on.

He meets her halfway with a grin and offers his hand. “You look beautiful,” he says, spinning her in a circle. She twists on the toe of her heel, and her dress flares. There are sparkles in the intricate design across her chest that glisten under the studio lights. Alex catches her around the waist when she stumbles to a stop.

“Yeah,” Reggie agrees. “You look amazing.”

Alex joins Reggie as Luke approaches. They share a knowing smile.

“Where are you going looking so good?” he asks, arms wrapping around her waist and pulling her close.

Julie beams at him. “A wedding for one of my friends from music class. Her moms are getting married.”

Alex blinks. “Moms?”

Luke frowns. “You mean… two women?”

Like a switch, Julie’s bright demeanor falters. She pushes against Luke’s arms, frowning as she breaks away from him. “Yeah,” she answers, eyeing each of them carefully. “Are you guys… okay with that?”

Alex makes a noise—somewhere between a scoff and a snicker. Okay with that? Of course he is. But confused? Yes. Very.

Reggie nods, chewing on his lip. He’s trying not to smile—Alex can see the corners of his mouth twitching. “Yeah,” he says. “Of course we are, we just—”

“That’s legal now?” Alex blurts.

A second passes, but Julie’s eyes widen with realization. “Ninety-five,” she mutters to herself, nodding slowly. “Right.” Louder, she explains, “Yeah, gay marriage was legalized, like, five years ago. Actually, a lot’s changed since the 90s.”

Luke snickers. “No kidding.”

“Oh my gosh, wait until you see Pride in June! LA has the best celebrations.” She shifts her weight, smiling sheepishly. “Not that I have experienced any outside of here to compare, but, you know what I mean. It’s so much fun! Flynn and I went with Sarah and her moms last year—Sarah’s moms are the ones getting married today.”

Julie is looking at him more than she usually looks at Luke—and she catches herself every time, quickly averting her eyes back to him and Reggie—which is really saying something. She can’t possibly know though, right? He certainly didn’t tell her. He knows neither Luke nor Reggie told her. Is it really so obvious, or could she perhaps… actually be a witch? Was Reggie on to something?

Alex rolls his eyes; he must be having an off day or something to really consider Julie being a witch and Reggie to be right.

“… Or not,” Julie says, rocking on her heels and twisting the ring on her finger. She’s looking at him again, much less sure of herself than before. Reggie and Luke are staring too; Luke elbows him in the side and glares.

“What?” Alex whines, pushing him away. “What are you—Oh! Oh, I wasn’t—I didn’t—” He shakes his head at Julie. “I wasn’t rolling my eyes at you! I just… had a dumb idea… Anyway, I’m sorry, what did you say?”

“She said we could go with her,” Reggie explains. “To the wedding, if we want to.” He raises his eyebrows knowingly. How come everyone is so knowing toward him all of a sudden?

“You should,” Julie persists. “Sarah showed us pictures of the venue today at school. It looks gorgeous in the daylight—I can’t wait to see it tonight.”

Luke grins. “Of course we’ll go.” He chuckles at the guys. “I mean, what else do we have to do?”

So, that’s how they end up in the outdoors of Orange County. The guys ride in the back of Ray’s car—apparently, ghosts can ride in cars. Flynn doesn’t carpool with Julie; when the girls reunite, she explains how her mom decided last minute that Flynn’s hair would look better in a bun rather than her regular braids.

They pose for pictures from Ray and the wedding photographer. Then Sarah, Alex thinks—a teenage girl with fair skin and copper red hair in a neat plait against her shoulder—rushes over with the biggest grin on her face. The girls gush over their outfits, the night, the decorations, etc etc. They’re cute; Alex shares a fond smile with Luke and Reggie.

“This place is pretty,” Reggie admits, turning in a slow circle to take in the scenery. They’re in a forest, surrounded by towering pine trees, and there are lights everywhere. Streams of globe bulbs are strung up from tree to tree, creating an arch in the center where a long, white rug leads to a stage filled with golden flowers. The sun was already setting when they left Julie’s house, so by now, the reception is a warm glow in an otherwise dark forest.

“Alex,” Luke mutters, as if anyone could actually hear them, and nudges his elbow into Alex’s side, “look around dude. Most of these couples aren’t straight.”

He noticed when they first arrived that men mostly stayed with men and women mostly stayed with women, but now that Luke has pointed it out, Alex is noticing that the guests are actually couples. A couple to their left is discussing the food. One man feeds the other a bite of a sandwich and gloats when his partner admits it’s actually not bad. To their right, two women are posing in front of the wedding photographer. One is kissing the other’s cheek.

“I think this is the most…” Alex pauses, trying to both find the right word and take it all in because, really, this is a lot. It’s a good amount of a lot, of course, but… These people are openly showing off their partners. They’re happy. They’re proud of themselves. And the straight people aren’t saying anything rude? No one is cursing at them? Claiming they’ve damned themselves?

“Alex?” Reggie asks softly.

“I know a lot is different from, you know,” Alex begins, “but I think this is the biggest change I’ve seen. I mean—” He gestures wildly at the scene before them. “This is legal! This is legal. It’s accepted. They’re just—Everyone is just—themselves! They’re themselves, and it’s okay.”

“I was gonna ask how you feel about it, but—” Luke shares a laugh with Reggie— “I think I have my answer.”

“I feel…” Alex rocks on his heels, considering his answer. He chews on his lip. “You guys will probably think it’s dumb, but—”

“You know we won’t think it’s dumb,” Reggie argues immediately. Alex glances at him. He’s giving Alex this look with a raised eyebrow, like he can’t believe he would even think that. Which is valid, you know, because they’ve never been anything less than supportive of Alex. Of course they haven’t; he really lucked out in the friend department.

“I feel safe here.” He shoves his hands in his jacket pockets. “Like when I could finally leave my house to go to practice, and I knew none of you guys would judge me if I told you about a guy that I thought was cute.” He finds Julie in the crowd, chatting with the lesbian couple he saw earlier, posing for pictures—selfies—with them and laughing when the woman’s partner hid bunny ears behind her head. 

Alex rubs the back of his neck. “I just… don’t think I could’ve imagined feeling safe around people who aren’t my friends.” He finally turns to Luke and Reggie, who are watching him with wide grins. Alex huffs a laugh. “Stop looking at me like that.”

Reggie chuckles. He slings an arm around Alex’s shoulders. “We’re just happy for you, man.”

“Yeah,” Luke agrees. He hums. “Can’t wait to see what the whole thing with June is about.”

“Yeah!” Reggie exclaims. “D’ya think it’s a few days? A week?”

“We can ask Julie later,” Alex suggests.

Reggie snickers. “If she doesn’t stay with Flynn.”

Luke hums. “Yeah, I’m gonna… go convince her to stay home tonight.” He pauses to squeeze Alex’s shoulder before leaving them for the dance floor.

Alex suddenly steps away from Reggie. “I, uh… I’ll be right back.”

“Where are you going?”

“I just—I want to find Willie. I want to talk to him about something.”

“You’re really going to leave me third wheeling with jukebox over there?”

Alex snorts. “Jukebox? Have they approved of that name?”

“… They don’t know about it.” Reggie pauses, then adds, “And you’re not going to tell them.”

“I promise.”

Reggie chuckles. “You better. Now go, find your boy.”

He’s at the museum, the first place Alex looks. He’s just leaving actually—as soon as Alex arrives at the building, Willie is phasing through the door, about to skate down the street.

“Willie!” Alex calls. 

Willie steps off his board. He turns to him, and instantly, a smile spreads across his face. “Hey, Alex. What’s up?”

“So,” Alex says, stopping in front of him, grinning, “tell me about Pride.”

Willie’s eyes shine at the request, just as beautiful as the lights from the wedding. 

“I’d love to.”

Despite its technical and narrative achievements, Fallout 4 lags behind its predecessors in one regard – enemies get repetitive pretty fast, and encounters tend to rely heavily on numbers to keep fights interesting.

After you’ve been prowling the Wasteland long enough, killing enemies starts to become a chore, and little by little you start realizing that you can’t keep playing the same game for years and expect it to surprise you… without mods, that is.

15. Absolutely Cursed

Some mods, you look at and instantly know you’re going to install them.

That’s what I felt when I first saw Absolutely Cursed, a mod that adds an interesting new creature to the Wasteland – the Dead Head.

And then my game was forever cursed.

There isn’t anything quite like combat music kicking in and realizing that you’re up against hermit crabs living inside ghoul heads.

It’s like trying to induce a phobia on yourself for entertainment purposes.

14. Protected Unique Brahmin

It’s often hard for us animal lovers to play violent games where innocent wildlife may get caught in the middle of our struggle to survive.

Despite being irradiated abominations with two heads, brahmin don’t fail to activate that same caretaker instinct with their cute, absent-minded faces.

Plus I need them to poop so I can make Jet and get high off my mind.

This mod by NexusMods user HerDustIsVeryPretty helps keep your cattle healthy by making unique brahmin immortal. You can now have shootouts in your settlements to your heart’s content without worrying about your walking fertilizer factories.

13. More Realistic Cats

In the same way that brahmin risk being turned into Swiss cheese just by living in your settlements, so do cats often find themselves caught in the line of fire.

But cats are smart, right? Surely they’d be able to avoid the carnage.

Well, modder and fellow cat-lover Greslin was quick to realize that vanilla cats in Fallout 4 are little more than slow-moving targets too stupid to flee or get to cover.

Greslin fixed this by tweaking their behavioral tendencies a bit, making them smarter and avoidant of combat… and just in case, they also have more health. Protect the kitties!

12. Nightstrikers

While generally not an issue, Fallout 4 doesn’t quite have the same enemy variety some other open-world games have.

Modder Shadowliger decided that their humble contribution to improving biodiversity in the Commonwealth would be to create the local version of Nightstalkers from Fallout: New Vegas.

They called it the Nightstriker, a poisonous irradiated coyote that can really mean trouble if you’re not on top of your game.

There’s five different variants of the beast, as well as a Nightstriker companion waiting to be discovered somewhere in the Wasteland.

11. Commonwealth Critters

Among the best ways to make an open-world feel alive and realistic is filling it with wildlife just doing its own thing, not necessarily interacting with the player.

This can be resource-heavy, so, understandably, Fallout 4 developers didn’t put much emphasis on this detail.

Since nowadays most gaming PCs can run the game perfectly, modder Giggilymoeromicon thought it was high time the Wasteland was repopulated, so they added several spawn points all over the Commonwealth for small passive animals to do just that.

10. Institute Centaurs

Bethesda had many creatures planned for Fallout 4 that never really made it into the game.

Among them were the Institute Centaurs, which have nothing to do with what you’re thinking about when you hear the word “centaur”.

Modder TheFriedTurkey, along with their team, decided to bring this scrapped content back from the trashcan, making new models, textures, and animations to bring it to life.

The result is a horribly deformed, badly spliced abomination that looks just like the one in Fallout 4’s concept art. Charming.

9. Gojira 2.5 – Standalone Giant Deathclaw

If you want to add a new formidable enemy but aren’t quite fond of the “Please kill me now” vibe the Institute Centaurs give off, perhaps you should consider introducing some kaiju goodness into your Wasteland.

This mod by creator Neeher adds a new Legendary Deathclaw named after the Japanese version of Godzilla – Gojira.

This name makes more sense once you see its size, which is seven times that of a regular deathclaw.

This towering beast presents a serious challenge to anyone not armed with a Fat Man or something of the sort, and the way it randomly spawns at any point while exploring the Wasteland makes it feel just like being attacked by a dragon in Skyrim.

8. Plutonium Creatures

Seeking to add both new challenges and more variety to Fallout 4, modder Hopper31 created an entirely new tier of enemies – Plutonium Creatures.

These orange-glowing horrors are what happens when a regular glowing variant comes into contact with a municipal plutonium well, becoming even stronger.

There are currently 20 plutonium creatures, and while they’re effectively OP when compared to their normal counterparts, they also won’t start spawning until several levels later.

This way they’ll be a challenge without completely breaking your game.

7. Glowing Animals Emit Light

A perfect companion mod for Plutonium Creatures is Glowing Animals Emit Light by MM137, an add-on that turns glowing variants of creatures into light sources, as they should always have been.

This will make fighting strong enemies in the darkness a much more immersive experience, albeit a somewhat easier one as well.

Getting mauled at midnight by a radioactive Yao Guai had never looked this cool.

6. More Deathclaw Variety

Deathclaws have always been beautiful killing machines that never fail to rip me to shreds when I get distracted admiring the spiky beauty of their being.

Modder Hopper31 apparently agrees, so they decided to add over 20 new varieties of deathclaw into the game – all using only vanilla assets.

Red Deathclaws, Glowing Deathclaws, and even Albino Deathclaws may now come out at any moment to separate you from your limbs in style – and you’ll be thankful for the spectacle.

5. Crows and Creatures

Of course, there’s no point in upgrading deathclaws if you’re going to leave everything else the same.

Instead of adding more variety, modder Xazomn decided to upgrade the textures of every creature in the Wasteland so they look more detailed and, in consequence, lifelike.

Gone are the days of playdoh models of radioactive dogs with shiny, beady eyes trying to kill you.

Now you can get disemboweled by a pack of abominations without breaking your immersion.

4. True Legendary Enemies

Are you tired of “legendary” enemies having boring, run-of-the-mill names like “Legendary Thingamabob” instead of something special?

Don’t legends have proper names?

Modder Pwnstar fixes that by giving each and every Legendary enemy in the Wasteland either an epic, intimidating name or something a little more lighthearted.

I’ll never forget my first encounter with Dominatrix Alpha, the Legendary Assaultron, and I still get fits of laughter when remembering the time I faced a Radroach called Gorbash The Devourer.

3. Deadlier Deathclaws

Deathclaws look terrifying and are fittingly strong as hell when you first encounter them in the Commonwealth, but once you get the hang of things, such events become underwhelming.

Creator Mpankey decided to fix this by buffing these Dragons of The Wasteland considerably – as well as adding stronger varieties such as the Quantum Deathclaws that were cut from the Nuka World DLC.

If you want to test out just how much stronger they are, head to the hills west of the Glowing Sea, where you’ll find a cave overrun with deathclaws that’s appropriately called The Devil’s Den.

2. D.E.C.A.Y – Better Ghouls

Among the most common enemies in Fallout 4 are feral ghouls, former humans turned into quasi-immortal mindless shells, gone crazy due to hunger and suffering.

With such a horrible backstory, it’s kind of underwhelming just how leathery and old they look.

To fix this, modder Thumblesteen replaced their textures and models with something reflecting decay rather than mummification.

Now, these radioactive zombies feature exposed bones, skin mold, missing limbs, and much more – all in glorious 2K textures.

1. Respawnable Legendary Bosses and Hard Legendary Giant Creatures

After playing the game several times and experiencing the godly powers of maxed-out characters, most of us start finding the vanilla creatures and bosses increasingly boring.

To keep things spicy for seasoned players, modder Charrisx decided to place many respawnable Legendary creatures hidden throughout the Commonwealth so that there’s never a dull moment in your adventure.

This mod adds 27 unique bosses, including a bunch of giant abominations that’ll make you feel as if you’re playing Monster Hunter World.

Nope, I didn't watch the OG!

Tl;dr of my following rant: bad fashion. Horrid.

Alright, lets go.

When thinking of good costume design, I tend to look at three things: 1.What does it communicate about the character? 2. Is it effectively being said to the audience? 3. Is it nice to look at?

Fate fails miserably, in all three instances.

1. What does it communicate about the character?

Fate's lack of forethought regarding world building shines through their outfits. We have a princess who dresses like a white suburban mom, who wears plastic ties in her hair when she's saying "people expect me to care how I look". We have an empath who desperately wants to blend with a wall and vanish from the overcrowded mess that is teenage years, but who's always in loud colors. We have a water fairy, who says she swims every day, two times a day, but who dresses in many layers and bothersome outfits to undress. Mind you, she swims on the river that she shouldn’t have access to, so she should have to leave pretty quickly. We have a fire fairy who claims she's as far from a cheerleader as possible and dresses pretty much like every Pinterest board I've ever seen. A FIRE fairy who's constantly wearing jackets, but then uses her powers to refuse a jacket when her love interest offers her one. Why is she in fucking jackets all the time?

And this is not even bringing in class differences! Is everyone here middle-upper class? All of them shop from the same store. Nothing they wear ever looks thrifted, or like it was hand me downs, there's no variety. Stella, the CROWN heir of the seven helms buys clothes in the same store as Bloom, the Californian introvert who claims she's not like the other girls. This is never explained.

Let's add another element: backstory. What are Stella's outfits attempting to tell me? Are they saying that she dresses like her mom, since her character is under her thumb? Then how come Stella's fashion style doesn't change when she comes to Bloom's house or comes back to Alfea at the finale, when she's free from that influence? Why isn't Aisha in easy to remove dresses? What are Aisha's tracksuits telling me? That she was part of a team, as she Says and that she misses it? Then how come she's the one painted as the snitch? I don't wanna talk about whatever Musa is wearing, lets just say it doesn't fit the personality they tell us she has. She's sarcastic, introverted and used to be a dancer. Why does she dress like a soccer player on LSD? No idea.

And what about magic?! What about their own world building: where are these clothes getting washed, getting bought?? Is there a fabric considered better than others in the Otherworld? Is there fire proof fabric for Bloom's jackets since she's always on fire??

Some saving graces on this particular point: 

* Terra. Yes, controversial. But everything Terra wears speaks with the character we were told she IS. She's insecure about her body, she wears plain colors, oversized stuff and tries to hide herself. There are floral motifs in her clothes because she loves them! She's wears comfortable shoes because she's constantly walking around like the busy body that she is. It makes sense!

* Farah. She's an older woman, very elegant, very strict and closed off. Her clothes say this! They elevate her, take fucking hints Stella/Luna.

* The Specialists Uniforms. They could be better? Absolutely. But they do manage to be something creative and that makes sense in the world building. I love the chest harness that has their dagger and little vials of zanbac , the antidote to the monsters they fight. Makes sense! I like how it allows for changes, such as Riven carrying twin swords instead of one like Sky. It's interesting and diverse!

2. Is it effectively being said to the audience?

Simple answer? No. Everyone hates their clothes. The lack of creativity shines through. They misinterpreted early 2000s trends that they tried to incorporate. Nothing translated well. They ignore basic rules of design and make their characters huge blobs of red (Bloom), bottom heavy (Musa), shapeless (Bloom), cheap (Stella), bland (Aisha!). Their costume designer was removed from season two for a fucking reason.

3. Is it nice to look at?

This one is the hardest to answer, because obviously its very subjective. What I find pretty, you won't and vice versa. I think we should keep an eye open for "nice to look at" versus "pretty" in this case. I'm talking about creative designs. About consistency. Bold choices. I'm talking about deciding to put a bride in a black ripped dress instead of a white one. You and I could both have varying opinions about it being "pretty", but regardless of it, it would catch both our eyes for being different. Even if ugly, its striking! Fate has nothing of this. They have royal characters in their cast assemble, at LEAST two, because apparently in the OG they're all princesses? But in Fate only Stella/Luna confirmed so far. And yet.... Zero bold moves. Zero trend setters. Disappointing. Playing it safe.

Is everything that Bloom wears horrid? No! I'd wear some of it! But its BORING and well, see my previous two points.

So yeah, season 1 of Fate has horrid fashion and should be ashamed

Oh thank you! And I think a lot of the patterns and colors and stuff come from the dome but I do use Pinterest a lot for thundermen stuff, I’ll add a link here to that board and I dunno if you can access the rest of my boards through that, they should hopefully be public!
