I’m thinking about james having a breakdown in front of sirius not only because he’s in love with a boy, but because he’s in love with his brother. He’s sobbing in his lap like the world is about to explode, like he’s a criminal not even worth looking at. And once he tells sirius about it, he simply tells him it’s okay. He holds him and tells him it’s okay
#marauders#jegulus#i love sirius’ and james’ friendship and i think this deserves even more#yeah he’d be disgusted to hell and back once he finds out they’re fucking but other than that#i really think he’s happy that regulus is dating his best mate#idkidk#this lives in my head rent free

Anonymous Request: James and Regulus meet before Sirius succeeds in setting them upon a blind date.
Chaos ensues.
Jegulus - Rated T - Nonmagic AU
-
“So…erm…come here often?”
The man behind Regulus in line at the coffee shop jolted him out of his thoughts with the rather awkward and overused line, making him raise his eyebrow in amusement. “Really? That’s what you’re going with?” he asked derisively before he could stop himself.
And he really should have. Stopped himself, that is. The man was beautiful. Tall and fit, with dark hair and golden skin, hazel eyes glittering behind wire-rimmed glasses. But the man didn’t seem put out. He shrugged and smirked, murmuring, “Well, you answered, didn’t you?”
Regulus chuckled. “Fair.”
“Should I have gone more forward? My best mate loves the line, ‘Is there a mirror in your pocket? Because I can see myself in your pants,’” the man grinned, cringing just a bit. It was adorable.
Regulus resisted letting out a shout of laughter and wrinkled his nose. “Surely not. Ask me an intelligent question and maybe I’ll pay you some notice,” he advised, trying to keep a straight, unbothered face.
The man nodded, tapping his finger to his chin, pondering that. Then his face lit up. “What's your favorite Taylor Swift song and why?” he asked, as if presenting the most amazingly deep pickup line in the entire planet.
Regulus stared. Who was this man? ”That’s what you’re going with?”
“If you tell me you don’t like her, we really can’t go on a date,” the man shrugged, looking serious for the first time.
Regulus sighed dramatically. If this was how he wanted to play… “Don’t Blame Me.”
“For not liking Taylor? I have to-”
“No,” he interrupted, smirking. “That’s my favorite song.”
The man’s eyes grew as wide as his smile. He looked positively thrilled with Regulus’s answer. “Ah. Beautiful and smart.” Without asking, he plucked Regulus’s phone out of his hand and tapped at it before returning it to him. “Are you free on Saturday?”
Regulus nodded, trying to feel more angry that the man had taken his phone, but unable to feel any sort of negative emotion. Only a bit dazed.
“Brilliant! Pick you up at eight.”
It was only after the man left that Regulus looked down at his phone.
New Message: James: Is that a phone in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? 😀
-
He was late.
He’d spent all day thinking far too much about his coffee shop boy, James, and the way his eyes and smile and voice made Regulus’s stomach do funny things. He’d resisted the urge to text back, trying to regain a shred of dignity, finding that he had far more self-control when James’s laughter wasn’t ringing in his ears. But he was daydreaming, and it made him.
So he was the last to arrive for his dinner with Sirius, and when he walked distractedly up to the table, he had to do a double-take. And then a triple-take. Because there he was:
“Reg! This is James!” Sirius called, smiling in a way that said ‘behave or I’ll skin you alive.’
James, of course, looked just as shocked as he did. Which was good, really. To see him taken off-guard. It leveled the playing field.
“I’ve been telling you about him,” Sirius continued obliviously. And he had been. He’d been begging Regulus to go on a blind date with him, actually: James, Sirius’s best mate since school. Who he was convinced was perfect for Regulus. How had he missed this?
James let out a chuckle, regaining his composure first, and offering Regulus a hand. “Regulus? Nice to meet you,” he grinned.
“And you,” Regulus replied after a moment, shaking James’s much bigger hand in his own. Gods, it was lovely.
“I’m sorry to spring you two on each other like this,” Sirius said, not looking sorry at all. “But you kept avoiding each other. And I really think you need to go on a proper date.” He paused and looked at James beseechingly. “What about Saturday? Aren’t you free?”
James met Regulus’s eyes, and it looked like he was struggling not to laugh. “Actually…I have a date,” he said, smiling. “And I’m very much looking forward to it. No offense, of course, Regulus.”
Regulus caught on quickly and tried to shrug good-naturedly. “I actually have a date, too. He’s a bit presumptuous, though. Don’t think it’ll work out,” he commented, proud of himself.
James threw him a humorously indignant look.
Sirius let it go for a bit, obviously put out that they already had plans, but still cheerful as ever. He began prattling on about work and recent parties, at first unaware of the way James was blatantly staring at Regulus, grinning like he was seeing a piece of art in a museum.
But after he grew a bit more comfortable, the two began joking back and forth, talking about pickup lines and Taylor Swift, laughing at the way Sirius was clearly confused about how he was missing something, some inside joke they had, but how was it possible when they’d never met?
It took about twenty minutes for Sirius to comment on it. The way James was looking at Regulus. The way they laughed back and forth.
He huffed and looked at them both with a frown. “Listen, I’m not an expert at this shit, but I think you two should cancel your dates on Saturday. It’s clear I’m a third wheel, here,” he complained lightheartedly.
“D’you think I should?” James asked Regulus, smirking at him playfully.
Regulus nodded and advised sagely, feeling giddy, “Better let him down easy, though.”
James grinned and took out his phone, sending a quick text.
Half a second later, Regulus’s phone dinged. He took it out an read dramatically: “When do you think Sirius will figure out we’re already going on a date,” he recited, eyeing Sirius, who looked thoroughly confused. “Dunno,” he said, turning to James. “We could snog. Maybe then he'll catch the hint.”
It was difficult to decide who was blushing more: Sirius or James.

Jegulus drabble, maybe a minific?
Thinking about Biker James Potter... him and Sirius would be really into motorcycles and i can totally see them being besties who post abt their bikes like they're actual ppl.
ALSO besties Remus and Regulus who like to meet at the local cafe that Lily owns and gossip about books and people walking by when James parks outside to grab some coffees and pastries on the way to meet up with Sirius-
Remus and Reg are doing one of their favourite activities which is judging passerby's as potential dating options because Regulus is always whining about being lonely and hating seeing happy couples bc eww 🙄🙄[Remus is just as bad, only less vocal abt it.] When James walks in, Regulus is immediately VERY unsubtle about looking him up and down. Remus is now judging him bc "Mate you cant even see his face."
"Shut up. just the other day you got a glimpse of some guy at the club and have been waxing poetic about him since. i mean, honestly? all you saw was some black curly hair and a leather jacket dude."
"That's different! there was something about him i swear! and his dancing; oh the way he moved was fucking sinful you dont understand-"
"Yeah yeah i get it he looked like an angel who moved like a devil; you've told me a million times in the past 48 hours I swear. -Wait shut up shut up hes taking off the helmet look!"
"Oh? yeah i guess hes good looking, pretty face. not really my type though" Remus looks over to Regulus whose jaw is now hanging open while his eyes look as if they'll fall out of his skull if he strains them any further. "Reg, you're drooling."
"Am not."
"You so are. Go ask him for his number" Remus nudges Regulus, trying to get him to go over to the counter where James was.
"Fuck no. i'm not just going to go over there and talk to him! 'oh hi i've been staring at you since you came in because you're so hot i feel like i'm going to die if you don't look at me' i mean are you kidding?? Remus? rem- NO. nonononono don't you DARE! oh i'm going to fucking kill you."
Remus calls out and waves at James to come over, smiling at him. "Hey, my friend here was wondering what model your bike is, it looks sick."
Regulus is so fucked. Not only is the handsome stranger even hotter now that he's facing them, big brown doe eyes looking at Regulus with curiosity and, maybe, interest? shit. But the gorgeous stranger is looking at him, waiting for him to say something, and Regulus knows absolutely fucking nothing about motorcycles.
should i continue this? definitely not my best writing as its just me getting thoughts out of my head but oh boy does this AU have a chokehold on me. I'm also thinking artist reg for this au, because duh, ofc im projecting onto him. not sure what remus is doing with his life tho... open to suggestions.
Ps. btw in this AU sirius and regulus are still brothers, but they don't talk much and havent really seen eachother in a few years after a big argument about how sirius left him alone with their parents as a teenager etc.

I know we all say Sirius would be shocked/appalled by Regulus and James (at least at first). But what if it was his idea? I’m working on making this a longer fic, but here’s what happened in my head just now:
“Won’t it be weird?” James asked nervously, “he’s your brother.”
“Nahhh,” Sirius replied easily. “I mean c’mon, you’ve been saying you want to get back to dating, and that you’d only do it for someone who was cute with a kind heart and a deep love for Quidditch. I mean that’s Reg to a T, don’t you think?”
James grimaced.
“I mean sure, but he’s your brother.”
“Well obviously,” Sirius replied, twirling his wand in his fingers and watching the movement as though this wasn’t the weirdest conversation they’d ever had, as though it was a perfectly normal suggestion, “which is why I know him so well - just like I know you so well - and I know what would be great for him. And you of course. You’re just as important to me, you know.”
James just shook his head, not really knowing what to make of this. Sirius had very obviously been reaching out to Regulus to convince him to leave home all year. James had no hope, but Sirius clearly wasn’t giving up on him.
And James couldn’t help but wonder if that had anything to do with this.
“It would piss off my parents to no end, but I don’t think Reg would be that way about it, I think he’d enjoy your sunny personality.”
James laughed despite himself. “‘Sunny personality?’ What are you on about?”
Sirius shrugged, eyes still focused on the tricks his fingers were doing with his wand.
“Yeah, you know, you’re like a happy ball of energy, and Reggie’s like fire and ice all at once. And opposites attract, obviously. Plus, like I said, you think he’s the best seeker in the school.”
James’ eyes widened.
“I have never said that to you! Why would you think that?!”
Sirius’ wand stilled, and his eyes finally met James’. When they did, James realized why he’d been fiddling with his wand. Sirius was entirely earnest about this matchmaking he was doing. Strange as James thought it was, Sirius really believed in it.
“James, mate, be real here. I’ve seen you watching him play Quidditch. And then you can’t stop talking about his flying for hours. I’ve also seen you eyeing him in the corridor. And when he thinks you aren’t looking, he stares at you.” James felt like he was blushing everywhere. “I know you’d never do anything about it because he’s my brother, but be honest with me. Don’t you think it’d be good for both of you? I know you do.”
James’ jaw had dropped slightly while Sirius had been speaking, and he shut it immediately when he realized.
“Oh,” James said slowly, “Pads, I’m-” but he cut off. He wasn’t sorry exactly, since he had very clearly not done anything wrong, and Sirius knew he would have forever resisted all impulse to do anything about it.
A smile pulled up the corner of Sirius’ lips.
“Ask him out,” he said. “Please. You could be so, so good for him.”
James nodded, cheeks still firmly on fire.
“Are you sure?” he asked. The whole thing still seemed ridiculous to him.
Sirius nodded, and gave James that cheeky Sirius Black grin.
“Yes, Prongs, I’m sure. And when it works out, you’ll owe me one.”
A laugh escaped James’ mouth before he realized it was coming.
Okay then, he would do it.

didn't post Remus' birthday here either because I'm all fucked up and ruptured the ligament of my ankle on the 10th, but here it goes
about 3000 words (or 2000, I don't remember) of wolfstar getting together (and jegulus and marylily but in the background), Remus' friendships and fluff
despite not making much sense and being all over the place, I really like this one
“I was looking for you, Moony,” Pete drops on his side, sitting cross-legged and putting an arm around Remus’ shoulders.
“I literally told you I’d be here.”
“Well, yes, but I wanted to talk to you.”
“Why did you want to talk to me?”
“Well, Moony, can’t I just want to spend time with my best friend?”
Remus snorts. “Are you hiding from Lockhart again?”
“He keeps trying to kiss me!” He groans. “I don’t like him, Moony. He wants me to stroke his ego.”
“And you’re too good for him.”
“Yes, that too.”
Remus shakes his head with a fond smile, Lockhart has been chasing after Peter since his first year, their second. And yes, Peter is queer, but not like that. First of all, Peter says he doesn’t want to date people he doesn’t know, snog them, or do anything other than be friends with them.
Second of all, Peter has loads of people lining up at his door, he’s too charming with that shining smile and kind green eyes, not to mention the way he talks, he’ll beguile everyone who comes across him. Not the marauders, though, his relationship with them is strictly platonic.
The third thing is the annoying one, Lockhart can’t take a hint, and Peter is too nice to actually reject him. Merlin, that man is impossible, he thinks he’s the best person that’s ever existed, as in beautiful, intelligent and so it goes.
He’s not. He’s pathetic.
“You should tell him no, Pete.”
“I tried to, but he laughed as if it was a joke,” Peter sighs dramatically and lies down on Remus’ lap with a hand over his forehead. “Please kill me.”
Remus rolls his eyes and speaks harshly. “Stop it, don’t say that.”
“Sorry,” he says sheepishly. “I don’t mean it.”
“I know you don’t, it’s alright,” he pats Peter’s head. “Do you want me to hex him?”
“Would you?” He smiles when Remus nods, he really means it. “It’s alright, I’ll deal with him.”
“The offer remains, just say the word and I’ll do it.”
“Cheers, mate,” he gets up. “I’ll see if I can scare him away now, thank you for listening.”
“Anytime.”
.
“Remus, you won’t believe what happened!” Remus looks at James, waiting for him to continue. “Try to guess it.”
For the way he’s smiling and jumping, it’s probably something to do with quidditch or Regulus. Might be a spell too, he’s been trying to find a way to transfigure the floor into real lava. Why? He wants the trill to play ‘the floor is lava’ for real.
Yes, they’re all of age.
Yes, they still like to play games.
“I don’t know, James.”
“It’s for you, actually. Tomorrow is your birthday.”
“I’m aware,” he says dryly, but smiling so James will understand that it was a joke. “You don’t have to give me anything, James.”
“I don’t care.”
Remus sighs. “What happened, then?”
“Well, do you remember when I said I was going to ask my father if he could find you a job for The Quibbler?” Remus’ heart starts racing and his eyes widen when he nods. “You start right when we finish school.” No way. No fucking way. That’s not happening. Is this happening? “Moony, please tell me you’re not going to faint.”
“I can’t promise that,” he whispers. “I need to sit down.”
“Please tell me I didn’t fuck up,” James says in worry after Remus sits on the floor.
“Fuck up? James, I fucking love you! I can’t believe it! I could kiss you right now!”
“Please don’t,” he laughs, “Sirius would kill me, it’d be worse than the day they found out I have a crush on Reggie.”
“It really wouldn’t.”
“Moony, look at me.” He does so. “Talk to them, you won’t regret it.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”
James sighs. “Alright, happy birthday, Moony.” He kisses his head and gets up, leaving Remus alone with his books in te common room.
.
"Why are you bothering us about it?" Regulus asks Remus flatly. "Don't you have other friends to do so?"
"I can't talk about it with them, though, can I?"
Regulus sighs. "God, you're annoying."
"You can't say that today, Reg," Pandora says. "It's his birthday."
Evan huffs a laugh. "Maybe getting older made him even more annoying."
“Piss off,” Remus says angrily, even though he’s not. It’s just that he absolutely can’t let them know. The study group can know: Lily knows, Pandora, Regulus, Evan, Dorcas, and Barty by extension because they’re always there bothering them even though Remus has never seen them open a book… James can’t know, Peter can’t know and most importantly, Sirius can’t know. They have a ‘no secrets and no lies’ pact, if he tells Peter or James, they’ll have to tell Sirius. And Sirius can’t know. His friends are laughing at him, all of them but Lily. Lily is looking at him with pity, which somehow is even worse. “Stop it,” he says pointing at her. “You promised you would be nice about it if I told you.”
“They're not being nice, why do I have to?”
“Because you’re the nice one,” Dorcas explains with a straight face. “We’re here to make Remus’ life a living hell, you’re here to help him bear it.”
Remus groans and rolls his eyes again, but his mind goes back to Sirius. Their perfect hair and silver eyes. Oh, they’re so beautiful. Remus woke up today with Sirius as Padfoot, jumping on top of him and licking his face, he didn’t even remember it was his birthday until Sirius made sure to tell him with a wonderful and beautiful grin. Then they made sure to hold his hand through breakfast and only let him go when he said he had to come to the library for the study group, but not before complaining about how Remus studies on weekends. He blushes.
“Look at him,” Barty laughs. “He’s pathetic, isn’t he?”
“I’ll show you who’s pathetic, Mx ‘I’m in love with my best friend but I can’t tell him because I can’t risk our friendship.”
He’s talking about Evan, but when everybody looks at him, he realises that he’s in the same position. It’s different, though, everybody knew Evan was in love with Barty too. Evan even made sure to make Barty know it.
“Remus…”
“I know, ” he snarls. “I’m going to the lake. Don’t follow me.”
He thinks he wants to be followed, but he doesn’t expect them to, he literally told them not to. It’s just that Sirius is everything to him, they’re thoughtful, careful, soft… They never did as much as raise their voice at him, even though they’ve done it with everyone else, even James when they found out he has a crush on their little brother.
And none of them can call him pathetic. Lily has been hopelessly in love with Mary since their first year. Regulus has had a crush on James even before coming to Hogwarts. Apparently, his crush started when Sirius showed him a picture of their friends and talked about them when they were home. Barty and Dorcas went through the same situation before. The only person who can mock him is Pandora, but, for a reason, she doesn’t.
He wants to tell James and Peter, they would understand, but he can’t. He can’t tell them because they’d have to hide it from Sirius, and Remus doesn’t want to put them in that situation.
When he sits on the ground, facing the lake, he feels an anger he hasn’t felt in years. Why the fuck is it all so hard? Merlin, he’s 18, he should’ve been stable by now. But he isn’t. His life is a mess, all he can think about is the NEWTs and Sirius. He needs top marks and he wants Sirius to love him back. He’d be so happy if Sirius loved him back. Even though he’ll have a job in The Quibbler, he will fuck up and need to find another job. He needs top marks.
“You should ask them out,” Remus jumps startled and points his wand at the voice before even looking at them. Reasonably so, the last time he was alone at the lake and someone went after him, it was Snape and he wasn’t prepared at all, he ended up in the hospital wing because of a dark spell. “God, Remus, it’s me.”
“You startled me, twat.”
“Well, don’t start with that, you’re fine,” Regulus says emotionless. “And my point stands,” Remus sits back down on the ground, not facing him. “You should ask them out.”
“First of all,” he says sharply. “I specifically told you not to follow me.”
“Mhm,” he hums nonchalantly. “As if you didn’t want to be followed. I know you, Lupin, you want– No, you need someone to convince you that Sirius loves you back but won’t make the first move, you have to do it.”
“You’re a hypocrite,” Remus mumbles. “If I tell Sirius, then you’ll have to tell James and ask him on a date.”
“I’ll do it.”
“What?” Remus chokes, his eyes wide in shock.
“I said I’ll do it. I’ll go to your common room with you, you’ll tell James to meet me outside. While I tell him I love him in the room behind the knight tapestry, you’ll tell Sirius in your dorm.” Regulus doesn’t seem to be lying, he wouldn’t lie about something like that, would he? “And for the record, both James and Peter know. You’re not subtle, Remus.”
He rolls his eyes and gets up. “Alright, then,” he says, “But if I lose my best friend and fuck up everything, you’ll regret meeting me in the first place.”
Regulus smirks. “Are you sure you can handle me, Lupin?”
“With my hands and feet tied just after the full moon.”
Regulus raises his eyebrows and gets up too, heading for the castle. It’s fine, really, the way Regulus treats him, their friendship is like that. Remus likes his bluntness, sometimes it’s necessary. He appreciates all his friends: the way Lily lets him lie in her lap when he needs it; the way James hugs him when he’s overwhelmed, knowing exactly how much pressure he needs to feel better; the way Peter will sit next to him and say nothing when he’s having an anxiety attack, giving him the support he needs without overwhelming him; the way Pandora coddles him when no one else will; even when Dorcas, Barty and Evan mock him to make him laugh. They all help him in their own way.
And Sirius. Sirius knows how he’s feeling even before him, they know when he needs someone to let him talk, they know when to get someone else to help him, even though they’re always enough. They know Remus even more than Remus knows himself. How he likes his tea, how he loves chocolate cake but only without topping because it makes him feel sick, how he loves to hear them sing when he’s sad… They know when Remus needs Padfoot to lie down with him and nuzzle his face, licking his nose in an attempt to cheer him up.
Sirius is perfect for him and he doesn’t want to lose them.
.
Well, that’s harder than he anticipated, Just looking at Sirius makes his stomach turn and his limbs get cold. He can’t do it. He just can’t. No, no, no. Sirius is looking back at him with that beautiful grin, showing their chipped tooth. Oh, what a sight, he’d look at them forever if he could.
But he can’t, so he averts his eyes and hides in his four-poster.
“Moony,” he hears Sirius saying softly. “I’m coming in.”
“No.”
“I won’t leave you alone on your birthday.”
“I wasn’t alone until now.”
“But you were with my brother, not with me.”
“My point stands,” he says flatly. “I want to be alone, Padfoot.”
“No, you don’t.”
No, I don’t.
“I wouldn’t have said it if I didn’t mean it.”
“You would, I know you,” they say calmly. “I hope you’re still decent because I’m coming in.”
And they do, because his friends have no concept of personal space and they know when he’s lying. “What?”
“You’re worried.”
“Of course I’m not,” he says sarcastically. “I’m the epitome of calmness.”
“Don’t be mean to me, Moony,” they pout. “What happened?”
Oh, fuck, he’ll have to do it, won’t he? He promised Regulus he would do it, he can’t back off now. “Nothing happened, Sirius, just leave me alone.”
“Did my brother do something to you? Do I have to hit him for you?”
“Don’t hit your brother.”
“It wouldn’t be the first nor the last time, he’s my brother, we do that.” Remus huffs a laugh. “There we are! Now give me a smile.”
“Piss off,” he says, frowning again. “I just need to be alone for a while.”
“Oh, did something happen? Are you overwhelmed?”
“I’m fine, Sirius, just leave.”
“Do you need me to get James? I’ll get him for you. Did Barty say something?”
“I don’t understand your problem with Barty.”
“Well, James doesn’t like them, so as the amazingly supportive friend that I am, I don’t like them either.”
“James is jealous of them.”
“Do you need him now?”
“He’s doing something important now.” Merlin, he has to do it. “Sit down, would you?”
“Are you just giving me orders like a dog?” They do it anyway.
“Well, you obeyed, didn’t you?”
They laugh. “What happened, Moony?”
“Well, your brother and I made a deal, if he does something, I’ll have to do something too,” he says carefully. “And he’s doing it right now, so I’ll have to do it too. But I need you to bear with me and not speak or leave until I tell you to.”
“So you’re giving me orders like a dog.” Remus glares at them. “Alright, I’m sorry, I’ll be quiet.”
He’s sure Sirius is being difficult because they know Remus finds it funny, but it’s not helping now, it’s just making him even more anxious because he’ll miss it. He’ll miss Sirius when they stop talking to him.
“Reg is outside confessing his love for James.”
“Really?!” They jump with a grin. “Oh my God, I can’t believe it, it’s been what? Six years? Seven?”
“Sirius.”
“Alright, I promise I’ll be quiet now,” they zip their mouth shut and pretend to throw an imaginary key through the window.
“Regulus is confessing his love for James because I agreed to do something if he did that.” They nod. “I said if he confessed his love for James, I’d confess my love for you. Which isn’t fair because it’s my birthday and you’ll feel guilty for rejecting me on my birthday. Don’t. I’ll be fine. I just don’t want things to get weird because even if I can’t have you as a partner, I still want to have you as a friend, I can’t lose you.”
They just nod again and Remus sighs.
“You can reject me today, it’s best if you do it now, I don’t want you to wait until tomorrow so I won’t feel bad on my birthday, just… Just please don’t let me lose you as a friend, because even though I love you as more than that, I still love you as a friend and I appreciate your friendship and you as a person and I can’t, Sirius, I just can’t.”
They don’t move.
“I promise I won’t kill Regulus for giving me bad advice either, I know you love him and I won’t kill him even if I want to. I can’t promise I won’t kill the others, though, but you don’t like Barty, so there’s that. If I kill him would you want to be my friend again? I’ll do whatever it takes.” His breath hitches and he realises what he had just said, putting his hands over his mouth and widening his eyes. “I take it back, I can’t kill anyone, I’m sorry. But I’ll do anything else, just don’t leave me.”
Their face is blank.
“I fucked up, didn’t I? I’m sorry, I should have known better. And now I made you uncomfortable because I’m a bad friend and I put you in an awful position. I’m sorry, Sirius,” he feels his eyes watering. Of course he’s going to cry, he’s going to lose one of his best friends, how could someone not cry about it? “Just… I’ll stay away from you if you want to, I won’t touch you anymore if you don’t want me to, I–”
“Remus,” Sirius says gravely and he freezes. “Moony, slow down. Breathe. Come on, inhale… hold… exhale… hold… That’s it, better now? Do you want me to hug you? Will the pressure make you feel better?”
“You don’t want to touch me.”
“I wouldn’t have offered if I didn’t, would I?” They smile. “You’re overwhelmed, Remus, do you need the pressure?” Is he overwhelmed? He hadn’t noticed. But it makes sense, he’s feeling like he needs to peel his skin off. “Moony?”
He slowly nods. “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologise, love, I love you too. I have for a while now. James and Peter know, and Reg too, he’s known the longest.”
“You do?”
“I do.”
“That little shite could have told me, couldn’t he? I’ve– Ugh,” he sighs. “He’s known I’m in love with you for a good while now, he could have… It would have… You told him not to tell me, didn’t you?”
“What do you think?” They ask hoarsely. “I can’t live without you, can I?”
“I’m sorry.”
“Remus John Lupin, I think you’re wasting too much time apologising when you could be snogging me. I really need you to, it’s a life or death situation, you’re torturing me by looking at me like that.”
“Am I?” Remus smirks. “What if I want to torture you?”
Sirius grins with that mischievous glint in their eyes. “Naughty boy,” they laugh. “I’ll let you do anything to me.”
“Anything? Well, that’s a huge promise, isn’t–"
Before they can continue, James runs into the room and throws himself on his bed, laughing. “You won’t believe me!”
“Regulus said he loves you?”
“Regulus said he loves me!!”
“And now you’re dating?”
“And now we’re dating!!”
“Moony and I are dating now, too.”
“Oh, are we?” Remus asks with a smirk.
“I thought so,” they frown. “Haven’t you just said you want to make me suffer?”
“Padfoot,” James says carefully. “I don’t think… What do you mean? Suffer? Moony, you can’t– Why would you– I thought you–”
“James, mate,” Remus says laughing. “I don’t think you understood what Sirius meant. But we’re not dating.”
“We’re not?”
“Regulus said I’d have to make the first move,” he explains. “Can I be your boyfriend, Sirius?”
“YES! Oh my God, James! Did you see that? Tell me you saw that.”
“You know…” he says with a weird smile. “I think I’ll leave you two to it, I’ll be back later. Lock the door, will you?”
“Wanker.”
.
“So both of you are suddenly taken?” Dorcas asks amused. “Out of nowhere?”
“I guess.”
“You’re pathetic,” Barty announces. “Both of you. Absolutely pathetic.”
“I’m pathetic?” Regulus asks rolling his eyes. “Alright, Mx ‘I don’t think I’ve ever been happier than when he kissed me’.”
“You weren’t supposed to tell him that.”
“Why not, darling?” Evan asks with a smirk. “Are you afraid I won’t think you’re cool anymore? Don’t worry, I’ve never thought you were cool."
“And how does it feel, Remus?”
“Oh, Lily, you have to tell Mary, I want to relive the moment Sirius called me ‘love’ again and again. I’d live in that moment forever.”
“Sirius made you sappy.”
Remus feels a dazed smile on his face. “They did.”
.
"Remus," Lily says in the common room the next day. "I told her."
"How did it go?"
"You were right," she says quietly, but undoubtedly thrilled. "Merlin, Remus, her lips are so soft and warm. Her hair smells like coconut and vanilla and I'd live in her arms forever."
"I told you you wouldn't regret it, didn't I?" He asks smiling. "And you know I'm always right."
"We can go on double dates now."
"Lily, you know I love you, don't you?" She nods. "I'll not be going on double dates. Ever."
"Oh, you're so boring."
"I don't see anyone complaining."
She smiles at him. "Yes, unfortunately, we still love you."

so i was an inside kid for the entirety of my college career and didn’t know that was a thing either, but the internet taught me about that and i was like, oh that’s remus if he was a bit of a slag (affectionate). he gives off this aura of being an unapproachable nerd and he kind of is, but also he’s absolutely out there every quidditch game trying to get at least two jerseys from each house for what is basically the hogwarts version of 1970s post-grad bragging rights and blackmail, if needed.
james hears about this, he is immediately all “oh absolutely mate let me help out” because he is the best at quidditch and remus is their friend (their being the marauders) so of course he wants to be the first, and then he’s actually confronted with the image of remus in his quidditch jersey, and he knows immediately he’s caught feelings in the worst way possible. regulus is also the one who offers himself up to remus, thinking sirius’s reaction will at least be funny even if the sex isn’t great (their relationship is generally better in this scenario), but then the sex is actually fantastic and when remus is like “ta had a good time, i’ll add this to the collection” and leaves regulus’s dorm for prefect duty with reg’s jersey under his school robes regulus is similarly like, oh, i’m in trouble, aren’t i. and the answer is yes he is.
both of them have a small crisis over this for many reasons but it culminates in them both trying to date remus, who is generally oblivious that this is happening. james is sort of a flirt normally so remus thinks he’s just being himself, and regulus’s idea of a date is a broody walk at dusk in front of the black lake during midwinter, so it really isn’t all that obvious what’s going on. they both figure out what the other is going for, and they’re both a little affronted, because they’re both a little possessive and regulus has an ego that almost matches james’s own, but it’s not as though they aren’t attracted to each other, sexual tension on the quidditch field and all that, and james is probably one of the few other people at school regulus feels like he can trust, by virtue of him being so close with sirius. so they agree to try together, but it’s still probably sirius who figures out what’s going on before remus, who likely thinks james and regulus are just dating each other. sirius’s reaction is very “YOU TWO? AND HIM?”, he has no idea who to be more annoyed with. really it’s likely him who approaches remus and tells him what’s going on, he’s all “i know you basically don’t sleep between pranks and prefect duties and how swotty you are and being in your slag era, so i’m not sure if you’ve lost some higher brain function but reg and prongs both want to date you please put me out of my misery and them out of theirs and just acknowledge it” and of course remus goes to them like, sirius is having me on, isn’t he? and reg and james aren’t certain if they should be annoyed with him for doing that or grateful, but settle for grateful when after they explain it was not actually a prank or a joke remus agrees on a three-way hogsmeade date, or library session. they’re all very happy and in love, remus is however still very proud of his collection of jersey’s
oh no

oh no i love this so much
An anon came to my inbox and left me the perfect James/Regulus/Remus scenario????? I have been blessed! I am not worthy! I need this 50K fic in my eyeballs immediately!

Wolfstar x Showing Affection (feat. oblivious James)
Sirius is very tactile.
He shows affection through hugging—hugs, hand-holding, playing with people's hair, just random mindless touching throughout the day.
Remus is more verbally affecionate.
He will constantly gives compliments—"i love your dress," "your hair looks great today," etc.
Unless he really likes someone.
Then he just
Stop talking.
Okay, back to Sirius.
Sirius seems like the 'heartless bad boy,' but he's a real softie when it comes to his friends.
He is constantly showing them affection.
Ruffling James' hair (much to James' chagrin).
Flinging himself dramatically over Remus' lap in the common room.
Putting his arms around his friends while they're walking down the corridors.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), he flirts much the same way.
Nobody would ever know this, of course, because he doesn't actually first with anyone.
Except for Remus.
"But what about all those girls who fall at his feet?"
He's naturally charming, okay? Give him a break.
Anyway, his flirting felt a lot like his friendship.
Sirius figured out he was gay at the end of third year or beginning of fourth, and realized he liked Remus a little later.
But you would never know it.
Sirius was constantly flirting with Remus.
But nobody knew.
Remus realized he liked Sirius a little later, maybe middle to end of fourth year.
Sirius gets really anxious when Remus stops talking to him.
"What did I do?"
"Is he okay?"
"Does he hate me?"
"Why?"
Pining, blah blah blah. Minor angst, blah blah blah.
They get together—yay!
They decide they don't want to tell anyone just yet, not even their closest friends.
And nobody can tell.
They're openly flirting.
Nobody knows.
Sirius will literally walk into the common room and sit in Remus' lap and start playing with his hair, and James will just be like
"Oh, hey Padfoot."
Remus will be showering Sirius with compliments about how pretty his eyes are, how soft his hair is, and Peter just goes
"Oh yeah, Sirius, you have to tell me what shampoo you use."
(It's Fleamont's Sleakeazy Potions—the one James refuses to use, even though Fleamont readily gave both James and Sirius a lifetime supply).
They will literally walk down the halls holding hands
Regulus will give Sirius a knowing smile
(He knows. Obviously).
Lily will give the same smile to Remus.
James and Peter will just think
"Oh that's just something we do know, I guess?"
Remus decides they need to tell them, it's getting painful to watch.
Sirius disagrees, and, because he's Sirius, wonders how long they can keep going before anyone notices.
Okay, so they're not telling anyone just yet.
But they're not holding back, either.
One night, Sirius decides to go to bed, so he gets up and kisses Remus on the forehead.
"Mate, you're gonna kiss Moons but not me? When did he become your best friend?" James whines.
Sirius and Remus look at each other and snicker.
Sirius just tousles James' hair.
"Alright, fine. But I will get a kiss from you before the week is out!"
"Alright, Prongs, whatever you say."
Remus goes red, from embarrassment and from trying to hold his laughter in.
At breakfast, Sirius and James probably do something stupid.
Remus tells Sirius, "you're lucky you're so damn adorable, or I might actually be mad."
James takes offense.
"What, I'm not cute enough for you?"
Remus is admitted to the hospital wing after a particularly bad moon.
Madam Pomfrey lets them stay, mostly because the combined forces of Sirius' desperation and James' annoyingness is enough to make her fear for her life.
Anyway.
Sirius steps out for a minute, because Remus is asleep anyway.
And while he's gone, Remus asks after him.
"S'r'us?"
He's still half asleep, and doesn't know Sirius left.
"S'r'us? Can you..." he trails off, but moves over to the far side of the bed.
Well. Sirius isn't there.
But James is.
He gets the message, and climbs into bed beside Remus.
They've never done this before, but hey, what a sleepy, injured, post-moon Remus wants, he gets.
So James wraps an arm around Remus and pulls him close.
(Honestly, get you a friend like James).
So then Sirius comes back.
And sees his best friend cuddling with his boyfriend.
He clears his throat.
"James, what the fuck?" he asks calmly.
"Oh, he asked for you, but you weren't here. I guess he wanted cuddles or something, so I figured I'd fill in for you. So here we are."
"James," Sirius deadpanned. "That's my boyfriend you're cuddling with."
James sat up so quickly Sirius was honestly impressed Remus didn't wake up.
"Boyfriend?!?"
"Boyfriend," Sirius confirms.
"How long??"
"Few months now."
"Wha– but I– you– what?!?!?!"
It's safe to say James is in shock.
"Why didn't you tell me??" he finally asks.
"Are you honestly blind?" Sirius asks.
"Have you not seen us flirting? Cuddling? Eye-fucking across the room?"
"I thought that was just something you did!!"
James is still in shock.
And totally oblivious.
"It is something we do. Because we're dating. We wake up in the same bed every morning."
"AS BROS DO."
James eventually calms down. Their argument conversation has now woken Remus up.
"James, what are you doing in my bed?"
"We've been over this already," Sirius said.
"By the way, he knows now."
"Oh good. How's he taking it?"
"Not sure," Sirius says. "James?"
"Huh? I mean... yeah. I'm happy for you, obviously. And it's fine that you're gay, or whatever. I don't care about that. But what the fuck??"
Alright then. That's how he's taking it.
James never did get that kiss.

the other side of the tracks
Prompts: Other side of the tracks, "we can't be friends."
“What are you doing over here?” the man asks, following Remus at a distance. “I don’t see your sort over here often, if ever.”
Remus hurries along, listening to the footsteps behind him. This guy has been following him since he left the library over here. Damn his need for this book - he should have waited for his own library to have a copy next week. He’s too impatient.
“Hey, Luv, stop. I just wanna talk, okay?”
Remus speeds up slightly. He walked past this guy on the way out and the man was leaning against the wall with a cigarette. Black doc martens and a leather jacket. Dark eyes that follow Remus’ movements from the second he walks out of the door of that library.
“Sweetheart, you don’t wanna stop for just two minutes?” the man calls. “Gorgeous, wait up!”
Remus can’t walk any faster. It’s his lack of attention however, that makes him bump into someone else, and that’s a mistake because the man turns, eyes fixed on Remus.
“What are you doing here?” the man asks, eyes narrowed. "Don't you belong on the other side of the tracks?"
Remus backs up quickly.
“Oi, Dolohov - leave him. That’s my… boyfriend. He’s good. Just carry on about your business, yeah?” The other man is suddenly at Remus’ side, grabbing his arm.
“Sorry,” Remus manages, as he’s being pulled away.
“Ignore him, he’s an arsehole,” the man says as they move away from the second guy. “So, now I’ve finally caught up with you, what brings you over here? Heard how gorgeous the men here are?”
“I’m sorry, what?” Remus asks, looking around at him.
“Mate, you’re cute. I never see anyone like you over this side of town and I’d very much like to see you here more often,” the stranger tells him. His arm moves around Remus’ shoulders. “How about Friday night for dinner?”
“Wait, you’ve been following me to… to ask me out?”
“What? Did you think I was going to rob you?” The man looks offended. “Or suggest we be friends. We can’t be friends because you’re too gorgeous and I’d spend my life in the friend-zone of someone who I really want to snog. But it’s okay, my darling, I’ll forgive you for getting the wrong impression of me. I saw you go into the library earlier and you looked so beautiful that I had to meet you. Thought I’d walk you back safely and all that. Do we hold hands yet, or wait for our date?”
Remus would think this man is joking had it not been for how serious he sounds. “Friday?”
“I’ll keep you safe, or we’ll go to your side of town if you prefer,” his date says. “Wherever you like for our date, my sweet. I’m Sirius, by the way. Sirius Black.”
The name is familiar. “Do you know someone called Regulus?” Remus asks, after a pause. “I go to school with him.”
“Yeah, my little brother,” Sirius says cheerfully. “What’s your name, love of my life?” He brings his cigarette to his lips, taking a puff, blowing the smoke in the other direction. Remus can garner the change of topic and he doesn’t push.
“Remus Lupin,” Remus says, cheeks red at the term of endearment. “You’re very forward, you know.”
“You didn’t realise I was trying to ask you out. I think forward is probably for the best,” Sirius points out. “We’re here. Bus station. The end of the bad side of town.” He moves his hand from Remus’ shoulders. “We’ll exchange numbers now, if you’re happy to?”
Remus hesitates. “Oh. You’re going now are you?” he asks. The walk was shorter than expected and he’s quite liking Sirius’ company, now he’s not scared that Sirius is going to rob him.
Sirius’ grin widens. “Or I’ll walk you home if you like?” he suggests. He reaches out, taking Remus’ hand in his own, cigarette in the other hand. “But I might be expecting a goodnight kiss.” He winks and Remus laughs softly.
“That… that can be arranged.”
Sirius laughs. “I was joking,” he says. “I’ll walk you home because I want to spend time with you - no expectations. If you kiss me, well… I won’t say no, but I won’t expect anything, okay?”
Remus nods his head, though he knows he’s not going to turn down a goodnight kiss from this guy. Maybe the other side of town isn’t so bad after all?

Hello, first of all: thank you for the amazing fics!! If you have time here's an idea for a prompt: Sirius has suffered through rape or a sexual assault in the past and has now, like, problems with doing anything sexual and he's afraid, that James won't want him if he was to find out and tries to meet James's needs. Maybe he panics or something it's up to you. And James is really cute and protective about it.
((A/N: Warning for discussions of sexual assault as discussion of assault by a family member and asexuality from trauma is pretty much all this fic is. If that's a topic that could bother you, you might need to skip this one <3 ))
In Sirius's defense, he'd thought that since he loved James so much, that when the time came, he'd be ready; he'd thought that he'd want it.
But it didn't really work out that way. Instead, he ended up panicking and shoving James away. And then he just stared at him with wide eyes, heart in his throat and feeling like he was going to throw up. Then he ran for the loo and locked himself in because he needed space to breathe, but he didn't want to leave James's flat entirely and couldn't very well hide in James's room-- that would've been worse than staying where he'd been on the couch. If he threw up, at least he was in the right place.
He felt like utter rubbish. It was partially a shock to him, but simultaneously not a surprise at all. Ever since his aunt had assaulted him at a family holiday party, he hadn't even been able to wank, let alone hook up with someone else. But, as he said, he'd thought that since he loved James so bloody much, it wouldn't be a problem. James, for one, was nothing like his aunt. For another, him and James had been dating for months. Kissing James was plenty of fun, but every time it started to lead somewhere, Sirius felt nauseous. After it not getting better with time, he'd guessed that the best thing to do was go ahead, and then he'd like it afterwards. He'd been... very wrong about that. Ridiculously wrong. If the situation wasn't buggering up his head so much, it would be funny how wrong he'd been.
A soft knock came on the door. "Sirius? Are you okay?"
He blew out a breath. How the hell was he going to explain this? James had invited him over, and he'd said yes, knowing full well what James had in mind when he offered-- mostly because James had told him straight out.
"Did I hurt you?" James continued when a long moment of silence passed.
The idea of James hurting him was laughable. Sirius had been totally panicked, but it hadn't been fear of James that caused it. He knew that he should say something, but he couldn't think of what to say. That it was ridiculous for James to be worried? It wouldn't be fair to say that when Sirius was the one who had run out.
"Erm, can you at least tell me if you're alive?"
A laugh startled out of him. "Yeah. Yeah, I'm alive."
"Okay, that's good. I erm, I'm sorry."
"What the hell are you sorry for?"
"Thinking we were on the same page when we weren't. I swear, I would never force you into anything. If you're not ready, then you're not ready. We can wait as long as you need."
And there was the problem. Sirius knew himself well enough to know that if he wasn't ready now, then he never would be. He'd been studiously ignoring that fact in an effort to give James the traditional relationship he surely wanted, and look how that had turned out.
"If you want to leave, I'll understand. We can talk tomorrow. Or in a couple days, if you need space. Really, Sirius, it's whatever you want."
"No, I don't- I mean-" Sirius stopped with a frustrated sigh, rubbing a hand over his face. He didn't remember sitting on the toilet lid, but he got up and unlocked the door and opened it, then leaned against the counter. "I don't think I'm ever going to want sex, is the problem."
James's expression was expectedly kind. Expected, because James was always kind to him. "It's not really a problem, but I wish you would've told me. I didn't mean to pressure you."
"I thought I could get past it, you know? But ever since- well, I've had sex before and liked it, so I thought that since I love you, I'd be able to do it. You weren't pressuring me, and I'm sorry if I led you on." Sirius made a face. "Well, I did lead you on, but it was sort of an accident. I was supposed to be able to follow through."
"No, it's- gods, don't apologise. But you could have mentioned this when I first brought up sex, and then we could've taken things a bit slower. That way, even if the end result would be the same, you wouldn't have felt so trapped. Bugger, that sounds like I'm accusing you, doesn't it? Sorry, I didn't mean it that way."
Sirius shook his head before James could continue apologising. "I was worried that you wouldn't want to date me anymore if I told you. Which isn't the best way to start a relationship, I'm aware."
"It's fine." It looked like James was going to say something else, then he paused and hitched a thumb over his shoulder. "D'you want to continue this conversation in the living room?" He quirked a smile. "I promise to keep my hands to myself."
Sirius smiled back weakly. "Sure." If only because this room was a little cold. Plus he felt silly, standing in his boyfriend's toilet after having run away from him.
"So I'm not trying to force a label on you or summat, but are you asexual?"
Sirius squinted at him, doing mental gymnastics to try and figure out what that was supposed to mean. "Isn't that a thing bugs do?" he asked slowly.
James blinked, then grinned. He wasn't mocking Sirius-- to date, he never had-- but he was charmingly amused, like he always was when Sirius didn't know something; James claimed it was because he rarely knew something that Sirius didn't, and that actually seemed likely, considering the sort of person that James was. "That's asexual reproduction, where they don't have to mate to have offspring. I meant asexual as, like, a queer orientation."
"Oh." That made sense, but he also hadn't thought about it before. "I dunno. I just haven't wanted to since..."
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to."
Sirius looked down and fiddled with the hem of his shirt. "My father sent me to a therapist after it happened. He said it was pretty common for a family member to be the one responsible in underage cases." He shifted his weight uncomfortably. He'd never told anyone before. "Can I hug you?" he mumbled.
"Yeah, of course," James said, holding his arms open.
Sirius dove right in without a second thought. "Thanks," he said automatically.
"Anytime." James rubbed his hand in a soothing circular motion against the middle of Sirius's back. It helped keep his heart from feeling like it was going to beat out of his chest.
He'd never told anyone before because he'd never had to. James was his first boyfriend since then, so it's not as if anyone else he went on dates with had warranted the conversation. Plus, his only friend at the time had been Lily. No one in the family had had to be told, obviously, and Regulus had filled Lily in so that Sirius wouldn't have to; she had never brought it up, except to ask if he was feeling okay every once in a while. "I'm sorry," Sirius muttered. "I thought that I'd be past it by now."
"I hope I'm not overstepping," James said softly, "but have you considered that it's not something you're going to get over? Sometimes things change you. Permanently. Nothing wrong with that."
Unbidden, tears sprung up in his eyes. No one had told him that it was okay for him to be different. Neither Lily nor Regulus had really known what to say to make him feel better. Father had just about killed his sister. Mother liked to pretend that it hadn't happened. The therapist had done his best, but Sirius hadn't really wanted to work with him. He'd gotten Sirius to be comfortable enough going back to school every day, and then Sirius had told his parents that he was better. It was only now, years later, that James told him he was fine for being different than before; Sirius had always wanted to get back to normal.
Sirius sniffled a little, trying to make sure he didn't get any snot on James's shirt. "Thanks. I just- I wanted to be perfect for you."
"Would I sound horribly corny if I said you're already perfect?"
Sirius laughed, wiping at his eyes. "A bit."
"Well. It's the truth."
He laughed again, giving James a grateful squeeze before letting go.
"You want to watch a movie? Or would you rather go home?" James asked.
"A movie sounds good, if you don't mind." In fact, a movie sounded great. There was nothing Sirius wanted more than to cuddle up with James and eat chocolates for the rest of the night.
James smiled at him, like he was delighted that this was the turn their evening had taken. There wasn't a trace of disappointment to be found in his expression, even though Sirius thought it might be warranted. James looked at him like he was always happy to see him, no matter the circumstances. It was hard to believe that Sirius had been so worried about how he'd react.
He was still feeling the lingering effects of his earlier panic, but now he was left feeling the way he always did after he overreacted. In his defense, this was less of an overreaction and more of a miscalculation. He'd assumed that it would always be something he could get past, and what better time to make a recovery than when he was in a loving, wonderful relationship? But he'd been wrong about 'getting back to normal', and he'd definitely been wrong about trying to force his way past it.

“Life Is About Choices” : Regulus Black Imagine/Story: Plus Size OC: Potter Sister
Regulus Black Imagine turned Story
Regulus Black x Reader: PS OC, Plus Size OC
------
Regulus Black was the good one.
He was the one that listened.
He kept his emotions in check and didn’t question anything his parents said.
Well, out loud anyway.
But that all changed the day he met her.
Everything about her was pure perfection to him and she had this way of breaking down his walls that be absolutely hated... and loved.
She soon became the one person who could get through to him and figure out what was going wrong or calm him down when things got real.
He was the happiest he’d ever been with her.
He wanted a life with her but he knew exactly what type of mess he’d gotten himself into and he’d sooner die than let her be involved.
He thought that she deserved better than him.
Someone who wasn’t broken.
Someone who wasn’t toxic.
She’d told him millions of times that she loved him for all that he was and he’d believed her.
He knew she loved him.
Unconditionally and with her whole heart.
And that’s why he broke it.
“She’ll get over me.” he said to himself, breathing ragged as he fought off the tears.
“She’ll find someone better.” he said, eyes welling up as if to spite him.
“She’ll find a good person and they’ll get married and they’ll have lots of babies ... and she’ll be happy.” he said, rocking back and forth.
“Without ... me.” he said, tears flowing down his face.
He wiped at them aggressively.
“Stop it.” he cursed himself. “Stop crying.”
But he couldn’t.
It just swallowed him up and he couldn’t stop.
Eventually, he was in a full panic and his roommate walked in to see him in such a state.
The poor kid did the only thing he could think of and he ran off in search of Regulus’ brother.
Sirius was floored when his brother’s dormmate tracked him down in a panic telling him there was something wrong with his brother.
He and Regulus barely spoke anymore and he couldn’t fathom why ... but it didn’t matter.
He was clearly in trouble and call it ‘big brother instinct’ or whatever- he and the Slytherin made quick work of the castle.
He ignored the calls of protest as he raged through and into the dorms.
“Which one?” Sirius said and the kid pointed at the door. Sirius blasted through the and halted at the scene before him.
His younger brother was absolutely losing it as he sat there in the chair, hyperventilating.
“Reg?”
Regulus’ head snapped up, luminous eyes locking on his brother, “What- are- you- doing- here?”
He barely got the words out due to his labored breathing and Sirius took a seat on the bed beside him.
He took in the sight of him.
He’d never seen Reg cry like this- save for when he was really, really young and they’d fought over a toy.
“Your dorm mate came and got me. Said you needed help. Reg, what’s going on?” Sirius pressed.
Regulus squeezed his eyes shut and shook his head.
“Regulus, come on.” Sirius said. “Just tell me. Did someone hurt you? Need me to beat someone up? I’ll do it. Tell me and me and the lads will make them run back to their mums.”
Regulus laughed a bit despite himself and Sirius smiled a little.
“You know, Jade Potterl?” he said, tears still seeping out.
“James’ little sister? Yeah, why?” Sirius asked.
“No.” He choked. “We broke up. Well, I broke up with her.”
Sirius sat back for a second to process, “Well, I didn’t even realize the two of you were dating but alright. Althought, I’m finding it a little hard to not lose my temper right now, Reg. She’s like a little sister to me. Did you hurt her?”
“No.” Regulus shook his head. “Well, I mean, it wasn’t anything bad. I just broke up with her and told her I wasn’t ready for a relationship.”
“Regulus, why did you do that? You were happier than anyone had seen you in months.” Sirius said, brows furrowing. “I mean, I didn’t realize it’s because you were dating Jade but either way.”
“You know why!” Regulus snapped. “I’m disgusting! I can’t have her be around me and love me! I’m toxic! I’m poison!”
Sirius sat back and this began to escalate even further... and he honestly didn’t know what to do.
He’d never seen Regulus like this before.
“She was the one good thing in my life!” Regulus said, standing from the chair and shoving it away. “She loves me, Sirius. She’s always there for me. She’s good for me. But I can’t just keep her around because she makes me feel good or because she’s got a big heart. That’s not fair. And mother and father will NEVER-”
“Fuck them.” Sirius cut him off and Regulus rounded on him.
“I’m not like you, Sirius.” he said, face red with tears and frustration. “I can’t just rebel like that. They’ll never stand for it.”
“Then leave.” Sirius said simply.
“Where would I even go?” he said.
“The Potter’s.” he said simply. “It’s where I went.”
“That’s different.” Regulus argued.
“How?”
“James is your best mate.”
“And you and Jade are apparently hopelessly in love with each other.” he challenged though he regretted it half a second later because Regulus looked like he was about to lose it again.
“I broke her heart.” Regulus admitted, crashing back down into the chair and holding his head between his hands.
“Then mend it.” Sirius said, placing a hand on his brother’s shoulder. “Talk to her. Apologize. I know Jade. She’s got a good heart and she’s very forgiving.”
“She has to be. James is her brother. And I’ve sort of become her psuedo brother.” he added with a chuckle. “Trust me. Just talk to her. And don’t go back home for Christmas. Stay here or come to the Potters. Just start cutting mother and father off, Reg. It’s killing you. It’s been killing you for a long time. Honestly, man, you’re sixteen and I think I already see gray hair.”
“Oh shove off.” Regulus laughed and Sirius clapped his shoulder as he got to his feet.
“Listen, Reg. If you need me, just find me or something. We might not always get along but obviously when it comes down to it- if you need me I’ll be there.” he said.
Regulus just nodded and Sirius headed for the door.
“Hey, Sirius?”
The older of the two turned back with lifted brows.
“Thanks.”
“No problem, runt.” he smirked. “Now, talk to Jade. I’m giving you twenty four hours before I break the news to James... who likely hunt you down for dating his ‘precious baby bean sissy poo’.”
“What?” Regulus laughed.
Sirius shrugged, “His words. Not mine. I love him to death but he’s got issues when it comes to how protective he is of his sister. It really shouldn’t have been a shock to me that she kept this a secret. Sneaky little shit.”
Regulus just smiled knowing just how sneaky she could be.
And with that Sirius was gone and Regulus did his best to just calm down.

DUN DUN DUN! Hello, my darlings! So this is kind of some backstory off that Reg/Potter Sister Reader thing I did! I decided to turn it into a story instead with an oc! Fun times! We’ll see that dramatic scene soon enough but for now- here’s a bonding moment between the brothers!

description: sirius begins to fancy a childhood friend who he thinks is dating regulus.

0000
October had arrived with chilly winds and golden leaves. The Marauders found themselves in the Three-Broomsticks, enjoying a butterbeer and a couple of pumpkin pasties, eagerly discussing their plans for Halloween. James went on and on about Quidditch and the party they would throw once they won against Ravenclaw while Peter and Remus listened.
Sirius hadn't been paying attention, his eyes were on a girl that had just entered the cozy place, a silver and emerald scarf wrapped around her slender neck, and a bright smile on her face. Following behind her was his brother, looking equally as happy to be in her company.
His silver eyes narrowed slightly and he bit his bottom lip, the clammy hand of envy gripping his heart and squeezing. He couldn't say he was surprised, no, this was how it was.
The minute he had been sorted into Gryffindor was when they belonged to two different worlds. Her’s was cool silk sheets, emerald pendants, fake smiles, and calculating gazes- which he wanted absolutely nothing to do with. The pureblood lifestyle was lavish and beautiful, in the most disgusting way possible.
Sirius was content with his warm woolen blankets, denim pants, wild laughter, and eyes full of mirth. He was happy, and he despised the way how he still wanted some part of that world, well someone who was a part of it.
(Y/N) had always been kind to him, even occasionally saying hello in passing and was obviously not openly prejudice, and he doubted she was even in private. She was smart, choosing not to associate with half-bloods and muggleborns to keep her parents off her back, but he knew she was on friendly terms with Lily and Remus, being a prefect herself.
Regulus laughed at something she said and they found a table in the back, causing him to snap back to reality, he hadn't even known they were dating, " Oi, you alright, mate?" asked James taking a swig of butterbeer.
Sirius nodded, looking over to the Chaser who's eyebrow was raised, " If you say so, Pads,"
Remus looked thoughtful, and Sirius had the impression the werewolf had been observing him long before now. They shared a look and Remus seemed to drop the topic, even without saying a word.
He had a crush on her when they were younger, their parents had even discussed a marriage between the two. They hadn't really given it much thought as kids, just pleased at the prospect of being engaged to someone they could stand, he found it funny how he hadn't realized how fucked up it had actually been though. Others took that freedom for granted, just as they should.
The rest of the Hogsmeade trip had turned rather gloomy for him, which didn't go unnoticed by his friends. Sirius had seen (Y/N) and Regulus walking back to school, laughing and talking the entire way, arm in arm.
He was jealous because some part of him still liked her. It was ridiculous, they hadn't spoken in years. Maybe it was the fact he didn't consider Regulus, who had always been up their mother's arse, worthy of her.
" Hey Moony," asked Sirius later that night, " Is (Y/N)...alright?" The pureblood poked out his lips and his eyes darted around the room, looking anywhere but Remus.
The prefect frowned, " What do you mean?"
Sirius let out a sigh, " I mean is she okay, like is she a bitch?" he mumbled, flopping down onto Remus's bed.
The sandy-haired teen closed his book and gave Sirius a concerned look, " No, she's not, (Y/N) is very polite," he said, almost reassuringly, " What's the matter Sirius, are you worried about her and your brother?"
The man in question groaned loudly into a pillow and Remus let out an ' Ah', " Why did you tell me the truth Remus? I didn't want for you to tell me she was a lovely person," he mocked, " I want to hear how she's a horrible human being who kicks puppies!"
Remus rolled his eyes, " Ah, how foolish of me," he said sarcastically, " Quit lying to yourself, Sirius, you know that's not what you want to hear,"
" But it would make things so much easier," he huffed.
Remus placed his book on his bedside table, his eyes softening, " Tell me this, do you fancy her?"
Sirius looked up at his friend, " I. . . I don't know," he said honestly, " But I feel like I do, hell I've liked her since I was five- well until I got to Hogwarts,"
Remus nodded, thinking over Sirius's situation, " Are you just jealous because it's Regulus?"
Sirius placed his hands over his face once again and let out another groan, " I don't knoooooow," he whined.
-
A week passed and it seemed as if (Y/N) and Regulus were following him. They were always where he was and always together. Unfortunately, he had begun to notice how (Y/N) helped first years, no matter their house, to classes, and had even deducted house points from Slytherin for tripping a Hufflepuff. She had also smarted off to Snivellus and Rosier in the corridor and that had practically given him a boner.
Sirius Black had a bloody crush, on his little brother's girlfriend.
It enraged him, the thought of someone like her, someone as beautiful and amazing as her, being engaged to Regulus and having his bloody kids. It was enough to send him into a melancholic state, he wanted her.
(Y/N) (Y/L/N), she was intelligent, witty, beautiful, and downright sexy. Everything Sirius wanted in a girl, she had it.
It was late one night and he spotted Regulus talking to Rosier and Yaxley and scowled. The two older boys walked away, most likely toward the great hall where dinner was being held, " Unbelievable," Sirius laughed bitterly.
Regulus spun around, " May I help you Sirius?" he asked coldly, they hadn't been on the best terms since Sirius had left, and the Gryffindor couldn't help but understand why his brother was hostile towards him.
" Yes, you can, Regulus," he said smoothly, swaggering toward the younger Black, " Explain to me how someone as amazing as (Y/N) ended up with the perfect pureblood son," he quipped gesturing to Regulus.
His brother's blue eyes widened, " Excuse me?" he gasped in disbelief.
Sirius barred his teeth, " You don't bloody deserve her," he spat, jabbing him in the chest, " I don't give a damn what you do, but don't you dare pull her into your whole pureblood mania!"
Sirius pushed the younger teen aside and stormed back to his dorm.
- It was the next day after classes, and Sirius had decided to head out toward the Black Lake alone, telling his friends he'd meet up with them later. He stared out at the lake, he'd probably just sleep around, to get rid of the thoughts of her that had been plaguing him for over a week.
Maybe he'd fuck a Hufflepuff? They were usually pretty cuddly after sex, and to be honest he needed it, " Sirius?"
He turned his head so fast he almost got whiplash, " (Y/N)?" he said, his stormy gray eyes wide, " Do you need something?"
Sirius scrambled to his feet and she got closer, a worried look on her face, " Oh, I just um, wanted to talk to you about what happened with Regulus. . ."
The Gryffindor's stomach dropped and he inwardly grimaced but decided he meant what he said, " I just want to clear up Reggie and I aren't dating," she began and he felt relief flood through him but also his cheeks heat up with embarrassment.
" Oh," he said stupidly, he cleared his throat, " I thought-,"
" Well you thought wrong," she interrupted, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes, but that stern look quickly dropped, " What's up, Siri?" she said softly.
(Y/N) took a seat on the ground and patted the spot beside her. With a heavy sigh, Sirius sat down, his hand going to the back of his neck, " I don't know," he began awkwardly.
She snorted, her (Y/E/C) eyes narrowing in on him, " You're not a good liar, love," she hummed, looking out over the lake, " I know we haven't really talked in forever but. . . I am still (Y/N),"
He smiled slightly, but it quickly vanished, " Well, as you said, we haven't spoken in years but recently I've started to notice you more, and. . . I fancy you,"
Her eyes widened and her lips parted, " Y-You fancy me?" she stuttered.
He laughed, " Yeah," he looked over at her and tilted his head before smirking, " Don't act so surprised, kitten," he flirted.
She had the decency to look embarrassed but smiled before looking down at her lap, " Well. . . would you like to go to Hogsmeade?" she asked shyly.
Sirius grinned, " I'd love to," he said, his eyes not leaving her.
(Y/N) finally looked up, " But why?" she asked, frowning slightly, " You barely know me- I mean we were great friends when we were younger but that was ages ago,"
The sun had begun to set and a chilly breeze blew over the grounds, causing the lakes' water to form ruffles. A few leaves fell from the tree and swayed to the ground around the two teens. Sirius admired how to golden sunlight shone on her (Y/H/C) hair, " I know enough to fancy you, and I have a feeling you haven't changed," his gaze drifted to her chest, " in certain aspects that is,"
(Y/N) let out a laugh, " And what do you know Sirius Black?" she purred, leaning closer to him, her eyes boring into his.
He pretended to think, " Well I know you're not a prejudice git to start with, you're bloody brilliant, kind, funny, and, well, stunning," he quipped, sending her a doggish grin.
She nodded, " Always the charmer, I guess some things never change," she whispered, her eyes going to his lips.
Sirius gave her an amused look, " You're not wrong there, kitten," he muttered, leaning in until the gap between them had closed, his lips meeting hers.

Keeping You
A/N: It’s hard you guys putting an idea ike this in one fic. Do you know how many ideas pop in my head. Like I wanna make it angsty, I wanna make it so you’ll tear up and cry but I can’t do that because well....too much series already. Lmao. This has been in my drafts for far too long. Time to woosh it out.
REQUEST:Can u do one we’re the reader is James’s younger sister and has a thing with regulus black so regulus x reader. If u do regulus
XX
James Potter. Who was that exactly? The Gryffindor, the house Quidditch Chaser, the Head Boy, the popular boy, the smart student, the favorite. He was everything people wanted him to be.
And who were you? You were the complete opposite.
The younger sibling, the other Potter, the black sheep, the outcast, the Slytherin, the trouble... It wasn’t that you were all of this because you simply had to. No. You were those things because you chose to be.
All eleven years you had to grow up in this house, you had to keep up with your older brother. What he did, you had to do as well. What he became, you had to become that as well but you never wanted to. A rebel since little feet, you couldn’t be pressured into being someone you weren’t comfortable being. They wanted you to be James. They wanted you to be just like their precious first-born but it felt wrong for you. It felt like you were pushed in a costume that was uptight, shoes that were untied and too big. It felt horrible so everything you and your mother always did was fight; Why can’t you be like your older brother!? Why are you making everything harder than already is?! How can James do it?!
Neverending. That’s what it was. You hated your home life just because of your older brother. The older you got, the more distant you became to your own parents and your big brother. You and James never got along because he couldn’t stand someone who stood up for the wrong things he had done. But you couldn’t let him get away with it. You couldn’t always have your mother breathing behind your neck, watching you to slip and seeing your older brother do just that and get away with it.
But no matter what, he was still the favorite.
That’s why you fell in love with the only person who understood that. Regulus Black, he was counted as the favorite but he told you many times, mother always talks about Sirius. Always. Perhaps in a bad way, perhaps she burnt his face from the family tree but then again, he was still her first-born. A mother can never forget the first breath she gave. Never, that’s why no matter how she told him that he’s better than his brother and that he’s the only sane one in the family, he still knew if Sirius came running back, which would never be the case, she would take him and if he was in Sirius shoes, she would tell him to walk away and learn his mistakes. She was always more strict with Regulus and that’s what lead to the only difference the two of you had. He obeyed and you didn’t.
Through all that facade he put on, he was just as angry as you. Holding it in, bottling it up... it wasn’t healthy. Both of you had it but you only showed it to each other. That’s what made everything work. Trust.
You felt yourself wake up from a peaceful, deep sleep. You woke up to the warmth of his body pressed against your back, his heavy yet gentle arms wrapped around you and his lips pressed on your chest. He felt you move and turn around to face him. He woke up but didn’t open his eyes yet because his brain was still trying to get in touch of his surroundings.
Your hand reached to his cheekbone and you let your fintertips wander on it. He was so beautiful. His hair fell above his shoulder-- this dark brown colour, silky and wavy that showed a shade of hickory on the sunlight. They could be completely black most of the times but in the mornings, on the sunlight they show their brown pigment. They were contrast to his eyes that were light olive, reflecting a hurricane and each time he opened his eyes, they made you wonder just how those eyes could exist.
“I love mornings with you.” he observed your face feautres, especially your smile. “I’d wake up to this every morning till death and not once get used to it.”
Your fingers ran through his hair, your lips sealed yet stil spread in a wonderful smile and sometimes that was all the two of you needed. Just each other and it was enough to be happy.
“I don’t want us to hide anymore.” you said quietly meanwhile your thumb traced his lower lip. “I gave you a year but I don’t think I can make it more.” you looked up at those fern eyes but they didn’t change. They didn’t. They still observed you with his adoration for you.
“Are you scared?” he smiled and put his hand over yours, taking it from his cheek and kissing it.
“Not anymore.” you replied. “You?”
“I have no reason to be.”
---
Meanwhile in the dorm of four, there was a different way of waking up.
“Pads?!” James shouted as he ran from the bathroom but the boy sprawled on the bed didn’t budge. James grabbed the pillow from his way to the warderobe and threw it at the pack of black hair. “Padfoot!”
“Aonsojdnsoeiurhgepifd.” Sirius groaned in the pillow. “No.”
“Wake up! We’ll be late.” James was now already in hsi pants and unironed shirt.
“I wanna sleep.”
“You’ll sleep when you’ll be dead now get your lazy arse up and stop being a twat.” he was already tying his tie around his neck and at no sound from his best friend, he grabbed Remus’ trumpet from Remus trumpet case and blew it in Sirius’ ear.
“FUCK YOU!” Sirius jumped awake, grabbing the pillow and throwing it at James, who laughed at his reaction. Sirius grabbed everything in his reach, kept throwing it at James who jumped out of the way, put the trumpet in it’s right place and grabbed Sirius’ clothes.
“Here, mate.” he threw it his way, running back to the mirror and messying his hair.
“You fucking suck.” Sirius pulled on his pants, later his shirt and then his robe. He looked around for his tie and didn’t even bother to tight it up his neck, just let it hang loose. “See. Two bloody minutes.” he slammed his arms against his body.
“You look like shit but I’ll take it.” James winked and ran through the door.
“Likeawise.” Sirius dragged his feet through the door, yawning and stretching all the way until his first class.
He plopped himself on the chair, realizing he didn’t even bother to take his school supplies with him. “Oh, fuck.” he let his head fall on his arms.
“I got you, mate.” James duplicated his school supplies with his magic.
“Thanks.” Sirius didn’t budge from his position, groaning from the lack of sleep.
Remus turned around in his chair, Peter as well, both looking at them. James looked at their grin, the kind that leaded into teasing and making fun of them and that was exactly what Remus intended to do.
“Heard the two of you will be practically family.” he started and Peter snickered beside him.
Sirius and James exchanged almost identical looks, both quirking their left eyebrow at Remus as the curiousity began to dig deeper. “What do you mean?”
“Your sister,” Remus nodded at James.
“And your brother,” continued Peter, nodding at Sirius.
“Are together.” Remus finished and James just watched, Sirius was nothing different.
Silence.
“You’re mad.” Sirius smiled and leaned back on the chair. “Nice one but you can’t mess with us, Moony.”
Remus rolled his eyes, looking at James who was just staring at the emptiness of existance.
“My sister wouldn’t date Regulus Black?” James asked himself but everybody seem to hear him. “He’s- he’s-”
“He’s what?” Sirius sat upstraight and looked at James.
“Well, he’s not her type.” James began to confuse himself even more.
“What do you mean?!” scoffed Sirius. “Not her type.” he mocked.
“I mean- she- I- no.” he looked at Remus. “No. You’re messing with us.”
Remus rolled his eyes once again. “Whatever the two of you say but don’t say I didn’t told you.”
But it was true. As much as James didn’t want to believe it, he saw you and him together. His arm around you, his lips against yours- close- too close.
And he couldn’t figure out what has gotten into him that made him so furious. It’s not that the two of you got along that great. Of course, both of you had good moments when both of you were kids. How he took care of you, had to drag you everywhere with his friends-
Maybe that was it. James realized he took care of you all his life, even if he didn’t want to, he still did. You weren’t easy to handle but you were still his little sister and whatever has been saying about Regulus Black wasn’t really making James joyous about the two of you dating.
“Heard you became a birdie.” he appeared next to you, walking your slow pace with ease. “A love birdie indeed.” he continued but you could feel him clenching his jaw.
“Yes, so?”
“So, are the two of you serious?” he asked, trying to hide his inner emotions.
“Yes, so?”
“So, no.” he continued to walk but you stopped. He stopped as well, walking to you. “What are you thinking, (y/n)? Regulus Black?! Are you bloody mad!”
“What’s wrong with Regulus?” you asked calmly, yet a bit irritated.
“Everything. He’s a Black for once.”
“Isn’t your best friends, who we spent summer with, a Black?”
“That’s different and you know it!”
“No, I really don’t.”
“Sirius had a fucked up life back home, especially with his mother-”
“Well, he can join the club.” you retorted and pushed past him but he stopped you.
“Mom doesn’t hate you, (y/n).” he spoke more calmly. “Your relationship with mom can’t even compare to the one with Sirius and his mom. You know it. I know you do and she loves you, and dad adores you and I care for you but going behind their back and dating Regulus-”
“Regulus isn’t a monster, James.”
“But he can be one.”
“He won’t.”
“How can you be so sure?”
“Because I know him in a way nobody else does. Just like you know Sirius in the way nobody else does.” you sat on the bench and threw your bag on the ground. “He makes me so happy, James. You don’t even know just how much happy I am with him and at times I just want to hug everybody when I come from him.” you smiled up at him and he sat behind you.
“So let me guess... a year?” he looked at you and you nodded. “I knew something was different around you when you started to actually be nice to me and to mum, dad even Sirius but why does it have to be him? From all of the wizards?”
“Because if it was any other wizard, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. And he made me this.” you put your hand on James’ hand and smiled. “He is amazing James, he truly is.”
“Even if he is, I won’t let him slip in that easy.” he raised his finger and you rolled your eyes. “Just...be careful with him.”
“Since when are you a caring older brother?” you let go of him and started walking away.
“Don’t do anything stupid!”
“Can’t do anything more stupid than you haven’t done!”
---
You jumped through the corridor and made your way to the dungeons. Stomping on the stairs with a wide beam and a few giggles here and there, you entered your boyfriends dorm and jumped on his back. He let go of the book and not even turning around before you kissed him all over his face.
He laughed at your action, laying on his back and holding your cheeks. “What has gotten into you?”
“You and me, Regulus Black, are going to make hella cute babies.” you joked and he laughed.
“Oh will we now?”
“Mhm.” you nodded, all skittish.
“So, I reckon you talked to James?”
“I did.”
“And he’s okay with it?”
“He is.”
“And you’re parents?”
“Don’t worry about my parents. If they accepted your brother, they’ll accept you too.”
He continued to look at you with gentle eyes, just smiling and taking in everything he ever loved. He kissed your forehead softly and hugged you tight. “We’ll get through this, right?”
“You and me? There’s no doubt I’m keeping you.”

TLTNL- SEEN AND UNFORSEEN
Sirius easily caught the book and began thumbing through pages, muttering this would have been far easier if his twat of a friend would just hand it to him rather than losing his place every time. James ignored this and went to retrieve his son from Remus, quickly stepping out to change his diaper in the slight delay and then nestling back next to his wife with their child between them as Sirius started with residual triumph for Harry's finally able to speak out like he did.
Luna said that Harry might have to wait for the next issue for his article to be published, as her daddy was expecting an expose on the Crumple-Horned Snorkack.
"It's good to know I'm not everybody's top priority," Harry said indulgently. He may have a good feeling about that paper, but he still wasn't sure how much good it would do, so best to put it out of his mind for now.
The whole experience hadn't been easy for Harry, as Rita had demanded every detail Harry could remember.
Lily huffed in agitation that vile woman was pressing her son for those details, hating the irony that Skeeter had finally gotten her exclusive article she'd always wanted, but at least happy enough Harry was on board with this one.
Knowing this was his chance to speak out, he'd given everything he was asked, but still wondered if anyone would believe it. Yet the breakout of Azkaban left Harry with a burning desire to do something!
At dinner, Dean overheard what Harry would be doing and said he couldn't wait to see what Umbridge would do when she found out. Seamus was on his friends other side and apparently ignoring them, but Harry could tell he was listening.
"Guess it's better than calling you a nutter again," James frowned at this continuation, clearly the Death Eater breakout hadn't been good enough to push someone who should know Harry on some level back into reason.
Neville agreed it was the right thing to do, people should be made aware Voldemort was out there, what his Death Eaters could do. Harry caught Seamus' eyes, but the other quickly looked back down at his plate.
"You think Dean's secretly helping Seamus with all the spells he's learning from the DA?" James asked.
"Well I'm sure Dean hasn't exactly told where he's learned them from," Sirius reminded of Hermione's little spell with a proud smirk, "but I wouldn't be surprised either."
His dorm mates left not much later, but Harry stuck around waiting for Ron's Quidditch practice to be over.
Remus let out a low whistle of surprise for such a long running practice, his two friends looking far more disappointed they hadn't gotten to hear about that instead of two-thirds of that Hogsmeade visit.
Cho was spotted first, coming in with her friend Marietta. Hermione saw this and asked why he'd shown up so early before without her?
"At least Hermione can talk you through it," Lily told him, glad that her son had seemed to follow their commentary well enough, but it would still be even better if someone had explained this to him in his time.
"I'd rather just never speak of it again," Harry grumbled.
Harry stated it was a complete fiasco.
"Well I'm glad you're chatting with her about this," James smirked, "far more than I ever got, you've now experienced Sirius' advice first hand."
"Hey!" Sirius yelped, "it's not my fault the woman's the most stubborn creature at school." Sirius clearly repeated an old statement.
Lily raised a brow at him, before looking at a suddenly uncomfortable James, and asked, "exactly how many of your blasted attempts were of his doing?"
James had the grace to fail to answer that, Remus was laughing too hard to answer, and Sirius kept going loudly so he wouldn't have to.
He explained the whole instance, ending with her storming out, and asked of her what on earth had been going on?
Hermione told Harry he was tactless.
"Hey!" Harry spluttered, now much preferring his mum's words.
Lily was still watching James critically, and he was happily ignoring her look by playing with his son's fingers.
Harry was outraged that was her conclusion. They'd been having a nice chat until she'd brought up Roger Davies, and then it had all gotten out of hand.
Hermione began to patiently explain as if to an over-emotional toddler,
All three boys got a chuckle out of that, though none of this was improving Harry's mood at the lot of them ganging up on him in past and present.
that he shouldn't have mentioned her halfway through his date.
Harry spluttered in protest Hermione had asked him to, how was he supposed to bring Cho along without telling her?
Hermione said he should have phrased it differently, still with that maddeningly patient air.
Lily was smothering her own laughter now, finally distracted from eyeing James. Hermione, with her two male best friends, should know better than anyone what if felt like to explain these things to them.
He should have made it seem like a drag Harry had to do this, he'd much rather spend all his time with Cho, but Hermione really had made him swear so he now had an obligation and to really make her feel as if she was more important by pleading with her to come along. It would have helped if he'd also mentioned how ugly Harry found Hermione.
"That is so unnecessary," Remus stated as he eyed Lily, "I'm sure she'd find it just as insulting his pandering to her need."
Lily just shrugged. She wasn't going to try speaking for Cho. She was privy to knowing what Harry had meant and so understood her son's position better than Cho likely had. Plus she'd never had much insecurity in the man in her life, he'd never been secretive about his intentions. Yet at the same time, it was clear she was the only one in here who understood why Hermione had said it that way, it would have helped soothe Cho more than what Harry actually did.
Harry's only response to that was to say he didn't find Hermione ugly.
"At least I could have told you that wouldn't have been helpful in the face of Cho," Sirius offered.
"Thank you Padfoot, I think I could have worked that one out," Harry rolled his eyes.
Hermione just laughed, saying he was as bad as Ron, or perhaps not she amended with a sigh,
All five of them couldn't help a soft snort of amusement at Hermione suffering her own plight of love.
as Ron himself came stomping into the Hall splattered with mud and looking grumpy.
"I'm guessing practice didn't go well," Remus said conversationally.
"I still can't imagine coming away from a practice in such a bad mood," James stated, his tone enough to state the idea was lost on him. "Quidditch is how you relieve stress."
Hermione continued explaining for Harry that Cho was trying to make him jealous after he'd bought Hermione up, it was her way of seeing who Harry liked more.
Harry protested why couldn't she have just said that? Ron clearly wasn't joining in the conversation just yet as he sat down on the bench and began pulling every plate towards him.
"Dessert for dinner, that's got to be some consolation," Sirius chuckled.
Hermione just said it wasn't common for girls to be asking that.
"I love my wife," James needlessly declared as he grinned at her.
"I've never asked anything like this of you," Lily rolled her eyes at him.
"I know," he smirked as she made his point.
Harry said they should! He could have just told her he fancied her, instead of her bringing up Cedric again!
Hermione agreed it hadn't been sensible, but she was just trying to help Harry understand how Cho had been feeling.
Harry just muttered something about he wasn't looking forward to a repeat, or if he had to, maybe he could sneak Hermione along under the cloak so it wouldn't go as bad again, or maybe Ginny if she'd help him out in trade of getting her out of a Quidditch practice she so clearly hadn't wanted to be in...
Ron told Hermione she should write a book, translating things girls did so boys could understand them.
"That would be a bestseller," Sirius agreed.
"I love Ron just automatically took to the important part of that conversation," Remus snickered.
Harry agreed at once, but as Ginny joined decided to change the subject and asked how practice had gone?
Both said it was a disaster, Ginny stating Angelina was nearly in tears by the end.
"That poor girl," James said with honest sympathy. He'd been lucky to have such a fantastic team his final year, yet every time Angelina turned something happened to hers this year.
The two ate quickly without much more detail and then vanished to clean themselves up, Harry and Hermione finally going back to the common room to start some homework. They were interrupted by the twins showing up, asking if their younger siblings were around yet? When confirmed they weren't, they decided to share more details, having looked in on the practice, and stating what rubbish the team was.
Lily struggled to hold back a new wave of pig headed comments about the new mischief makers of this school, her restraint not helped at all by the sympathetic look growing on James.
George did defend Ginny wasn't bad, an oddity as none of them had ever let her play.
Hermione inserted this was because she'd been stealing their brooms since she was six and practicing on her own.
"Ginny keeps getting better with every mentioning," Remus chuckled.
"Absolutely better than the little fangirl," Harry agreed full heartedly, even if he did look back on that with far more humor than he would have thought.
George now looked impressed as he said that explained things.
"He's so casual about having his stuff being nicked," Sirius grinned as well even if he knew he'd have gone off on Regulus for doing the same.
Hermione tried her hardest not to look up from her work as she asked if Ron had saved one goal?
Fred rolled his eyes as he stated he was quite good when he thought no one was watching. Therefore all they had to do at the next match was have the whole crowd turn their back when the ball was at his end of the pitch.
All four boys groaned and shifted restlessly, James wishing more and more someone would offer Ron some actual helpful advice rather than just complaining about the problem.
Then Fred shifted restlessly as he looked out the window, saying Quidditch had been the only thing this place had been worth staying for.
"That was true several months ago now," Sirius scoffed, "I've no clue why they stuck around after what Umbridge pulled, I haven't heard a lick of revenge from them about it."
"Sirius," Lily said in exasperation. "They've been at it this long, even if they don't care about the grades they may as well finish school by this point they're so close."
"I thought the reason they hadn't bailed was because they didn't want their mum to have more worries," Remus reminded. "That's hardly gone away, if not worse with their fathers recent injury."
Sirius turned back to the book in hopes the twins would give some better answer.
Hermione looked sternly at them as she reminded of their exams.
Harry burst out laughing that the closest thing to have crossed their minds in here was his mother's words, and even she hadn't seemed that concerned about it.
Fred scoffed they were not worried about that one bit. Their Snackboxes were now good to go, Lee had turned them onto this essence of Murtlap and that had cured the boils.
James gave a loud applause at his son yet again helping out the twins, this time even unintentionally! Sirius though cracked up even harder as he realized it was Hermione who'd been the pin in this one, and wondered if anyone ever realized the connection.
"I want to know what possessed them to put that in what they eat," Lily crinkled her nose.
"A bit brilliant though," Remus grinned, "considering the essence is to help ease sore skin, and I can't think of a place they were more sore. If they'd put it on those boils, and realized it made them go away, then the next step would be adding it to their batch."
Lily narrowed her eyes with worry in here that this idea clearly didn't bother a single one of them, there was a reason she cooked in this house.
George kept on point and stated he didn't even want to go to the match this weekend, he'd kill himself if he saw Zacharias won.
"Kill him more like!" James scolded.
Fred corrected kill him instead.
Sirius whooped with laughter and James even joined in that time with glee.
Hermione said this was the whole trouble with Quidditch, it created too much bad blood between houses.
The boys looked properly scandalized at this, but Lily defended Hermione on this one. "I may not like the sport much either, but I think a few things could be altered to make it more bearable for those who aren't obsessed with it."
"Like?" James challenged, clearly already convinced she could offer nothing for this.
"What if, instead of pinning the house teams against each other, any person from any house could be on four separate teams? Captains would still be chosen one from each house, and you'd have to create some structure for how each team got players so that nothing too dirty could be abused during selections, but it would do even more good to support a school unity rather than having another way for them to compete against each other. We already have the House Cup for that."
Her speculation ended there, for now, but she looked around and grinned further when she saw none of the boys were immediately dispelling the idea.
Sirius scrutinized her for an extra minute, but failing to come up with an argument against that, continued for now.
She looked up in the silence to see all those around her looking at her with incredulity.
"Well she did say that to the three players who'd been booted off the team for something entirely not their fault," Sirius defended.
Hermione insisted it did, it was only a game.
James opened and closed his mouth in outrage, and Harry was quite thankful his friend wasn't here now, or she may have gotten her ear chewed off.
Then she snapped at least her happiness wasn't dependent on Ron's goalkeeping ability.
Remus inhaled through his teeth as he watched his friends blanch at that spurn even through the book.
Harry would rather have jumped off the Astronomy Tower than admit it to her, but by the time he had watched the game the following Saturday he would have given any number of Galleons not to care about Quidditch either.
"I blame this on your father," Lily told him.
"It's half Ron's fault," Remus said fairly, "he got Harry into the details of it."
"No," James shook his head to try and distract himself from his own disappointment, "I take full responsibility for this."
The nicest thing to be said, it was short. It was debatable what was worse in the twenty-two minutes, Ron's fourteenth failed saves, Sloper hitting himself with the bat instead of the Bludger, or Kirke actually falling off his broom in surprise after Zacharia had startled him.
"I'm going with that last one," Sirius said critically.
"I'm crying on the inside just hearing about it," James moaned at the display.
Ginny was the only saving grace, managing to make their team only lose by ten points, as she'd caught the Snitch under the other Seekers nose, the final score coming out two hundred and forty to two hundred and thirty, Hufflepuff.
All four boys simultaneously groaned at the idea so many goals had been made, but tried to cheer slightly Ginny had pulled that off! Harry in particular found it a novelty at all to be watching a game from his school and with his disappointment still had far more fun watching Ginny play his usual position than he would have thought.
That evening Harry at least congratulated Ginny on her catch, which went unnoticed in the common room which resembled a particularly dismal funeral.
"I can easily imagine," James hung his head in agreement, he couldn't claim his team had won every game either.
Ginny just said she was lucky, Summerby sneezed at the right moment.
"She shouldn't downplay her own win," Harry rolled his eyes.
"Like you would have done," Sirius snorted, which Harry failed to answer.
Then she changed to saying when Harry was back on the team-
Harry corrected he had a lifelong band.
Ginny corrected right back only so long as Umbridge was here,
"How did you need her to remind you of that," James shivered, "it's the only thing getting me through these."
"Really James? The only thing eh?" Lily demanded of him.
He denied answer, even if he wouldn't take his comment back.
and once Harry was back, she'd go try out for Chaser. Angelina and Alicia were leaving after this year, and she preferred goals to Seeking.
Harry had a very bemused smile in place the others all put down to him trying not to remember something about whether this happened or not.
Harry had nothing to say to that and instead glanced to where Ron was sitting all by himself. Ginny whispered Angelina still wouldn't let him resign, she knew he had it in him.
"Credit to her then," James agreed with enthusiasm, though Remus shook his head in a bit of pity as well, at some point that must feel as much like a punishment as encouragement.
Harry liked Angelina for her faith, but at this point may have found it kinder, especially after the pitch had yet again been filled with another chorus of Weasley is our King.
"I can't wrap my head around the fact that somehow banning the teachers from virtually talking to the students was okay, but not this song!" Lily seethed.
Fred and George wandered over again, Fred saying he didn't even have the heart to take the mickey out of his kid brother yet.
"It's really no fun if they're so despondent they won't react," Sirius agreed, Lily scrunching up her face at him as she thought he was entirely missing the point of not picking on someone when they were down.
Though it was tempting after that last one, then he mimed doing a doggy paddle in mid air as demonstration for Ron's abilities, but when no one looked around, decided to save that for parties.
"I'm sure he appreciates your restraint," Remus said deadpan, while Harry felt a nasty prickling feeling wondering why he couldn't remember Fred doing that again.
Ron took himself up to bed not long later, and Harry waited a few moments so he could pretend to be asleep.
"There's a proper mate," Remus said in understanding, before unbidden the idea of which one of his friends were more like that, and it wasn't the two in the room. He blasted that idea away quickly before it could poison more of his life.
When Harry went up there as well, he was snoring just a little too loudly to be believed, but Harry let him be as he sank into his own bed, still thinking about the game. If only he hadn't been banned, he may have been able to save his team some grace, he'd seen the Snitch fluttering by Kirke's ankle five minutes before Ginny had caught sight of it.
"He really is getting as conceited as you, at least about this sport," Lily snipped at her husband, before properly scolding Harry, "you don't know what you would have done in that moment as well, you've hesitated over the Snitch before so the other Seeker wouldn't come in as well. You might not have even seen it from where you were, you were in a different angle in the stands."
Harry did look a bit abashed at his moment, he'd never want to undermine what Ginny had done.
Umbridge had been sitting a few rows below Harry and Hermione.
"And we snuck down and pitched her head first to the ground below. After setting a teacher on fire, this was nothing!" Sirius kept going with absolute conviction as if reading.
"Technically Hermione did that," Harry pouted, "and you're never going to let that one go, are you?"
"No," all four said at once.
Harry shook his head at all of them before continuing to address Sirius, "and you know perfectly well there was no such thing said in there, even Dumbledore couldn't stop me from getting Cruicio'd by her if we'd tried-" he abruptly stopped, as if his tongue had rolled into his head and he'd had no other choice from the sting of his mind warning him further.
Sirius ignored where Harry had stopped and kept going with a mutter of wishes.
Once or twice she had turned squatly in her seat to look at him, her wide toad's mouth stretched in what he thought had been a gloating smile.
"Oh yes, because that's so much better than what I said," Sirius snarled in outrage, wanting nothing more than to sick a wild dog on her already and make this problem go away.
The memory left him raging with anger, and it took him several extra moment to remember he was supposed to be emptying his mind for his Occlumency practice.
"Have you once managed to do that?" Lily asked, an edge of fear trying to push out her exasperation.
Harry denied answering, which was answer enough.
He tried to do so, but his anger only managed to double and now he couldn't push past his hate for both teachers.
"I know that's what puts me to sleep every night," Sirius agreed with a smirk.
When he did nod off, he started with a dream about Neville dancing with Sprout in the Room of Requirements while McGonagall played the bagpipes.
"There's something really interesting in there," Remus said with a raised brow.
"Yeah, how come you didn't mention her wearing a kilt along with those?" James smirked.
"I thought only blokes wore kilts?" Sirius corrected.
"It was the first Scottish thing that came to mind," he shrugged, "that and potatoes."
"It was a dream!" Harry protested this conversation before it could go further.
They frowned at him for ruining their fun, but since McGonagall wasn't here as their foil, nor would they possibly have even dragged it out this far if she had been, he let it go.
He watched for a while before deciding to find the rest of the DA, but when he exited the room he found himself once again in the long dark corridor with a locked black door.
Harry made a guttural noise of frustration at being reminded of this again! Days weren't even passing in here, he wasn't even having the frequent dream as his memory returned except the two times so far, but as often as it was mentioned he may as well be.
For the first time, there was a crack around one edge, a hint of blue light creeping out. He moved forward, reaching his hand out to push it open no matter how futilely, but then Ron gave a rasping, genuine snore and Harry awoke in his room, with his arm outstretched to something miles away.
Sirius couldn't deny he'd had a rising sense of interest at this new alteration to the dream, but it also made him quiver with unease just as much.
He glanced up at Harry shivering at his side, there was some unreadable look on his face Sirius was more convinced than ever he didn't really want to know.
Remus either didn't notice, or as usual was muttering for himself and didn't seem to realize others could hear. "Well this can't be good, sounded like Voldemort's getting closer to whatever this thing is."
Sirius gave a heavy sigh in agreement before continuing loudly.
Breakfast the next morning started as usual, everyone else receiving their owl mail while Harry poured himself some juice, but then an owl landed in front of him. Considering he'd received all of one letter this year, he was sure this must be a mistake.
Sirius tried his best to hide his anger at this being true. He couldn't believe he was scared away from communicating with Harry! He'd even offered his pup another solution and the little birk had denied that out of some skewed idea he was protecting him! He wasn't even sure himself what it had been, but for Harry to clearly have just forgotten about it and not even bothered to check was maddening! He continued reading with far more hostility than a bit of mail should have offered.
He even checked the address on it, but the recipient was clear as day. Before he had time to react, half a dozen more arrived.
"This isn't like what happened to Hermione last year is it?" Lily asked in concern, remembering the amounts of hate mail the poor dear got.
"Luna said the article wasn't even out yet for him to be getting any," Remus disagreed, though now Sirius felt even more justified in his haste of reading.
The whole hall was watching in confusion at the flock of birds trying to surround Harry, but Hermione reacted first in digging one in particular out with a long, cylindrical partial tied to its leg and said Harry should look at this one first. When he unwrapped it, he found a copy of The Quibbler, with his own picture on front with the title declaring Potter Speaks Out: The Truth about You-Know-Who.
"Luna jumped ahead of schedule," James said with glee.
"Still not sure if I'm a fan of the rest of this showing up," Sirius said grumpily, eyeing the rest of the text with worry. If anyone had sent his godson a cursed letter, that meant Umbridge had let that through her screening of Harry's mail, and that wasn't going to go over well.
Luna appeared, shoving her way onto the bench near him so she could say her dad had got it out yesterday and sent Harry a free copy, she supposed all of these were letters from those who'd read it.
Hermione asked if they could go through them, and Harry bemusedly told them to help themselves.
"That's a better reaction than you usually have to getting attention," Lily chuckled.
Ron found one that was from a guy telling Harry he was off his rocker, while Hermione read out one detailing how Harry should be put in St. Mungo's for shock therapy.
Remus scrunched up his face in agitation for that particular suggestion, Harry was tortured enough thank you.
Harry found one that actually concluded in someone agreeing, and believing Harry.
Fred had one that said he couldn't decide what to think, and declared it a waste of parchment.
"Everybody wants to put their opinion out there, even if it isn't an actual opinion," Sirius said in an attempt at Remus' wise voice.
Remus rolled his eyes for his friend.
Hermione managed to find at least three more of people who Harry had convinced!
Ron found one from a woman who Harry had converted, and she'd sent a picture, he trailed off with a wow.
"Err," James said with concerned curiosity.
"I never got to see the picture," Harry answered with that bemused expression lingering in here, so he had no clue if Ron's reaction was to be a good thing or bad for that.
Inserting her girlish voice into their conversation, Umbridge arrived to demand to know what was going on.
"He sent out a request for toad repellent, he still didn't get enough," Remus said with a straight face.
Fred demanded if getting mail was a crime now?
Umbridge told him to watch his tongue or she'd start issuing detentions.
Lily bite down so hard on her tongue from shouting out in frustration for the grounds of this her eyes began welling up in pain. She could never stand the idea of that woman anywhere near Harry, never mind the casual way she dished out torture and no on in that school had done a thing to stop it!
Harry tossed his issue of The Quibbler at her for explanation, and then quickly looked to the staff table to see Dumbledore. He'd felt for a moment his headmaster was watching him, but for now it looked as if he was talking deeply to Flitwick.
"I've yet seen your instincts fail you," Remus said blandly, "so I wouldn't be surprised if you were right." It made none of them feel better this treatment was being continued as casually as Umbridge's.
Umbridge was gazing flabbergasted at the article, demanding what he meant by this interview?
Harry responded a reporter had asked him questions and he'd answered them.
Sirius let out a triumphant bark of laughter, everyone else getting a giggle out of that as well.
Her voice growing higher with anger, she asked of him when this had taken place?
Harry said his last Hogsmeade trip.
Her response to this was to ban him from further visits.
The three Marauders blanched in further outrage from that pond scum. The detentions were still worse, but if there was one thing she could do to strike them hardest, it was ban them from their home turf. She grew luckier by the page they weren't there in person to teach her a thing or two about how she was treating their boy.
Then began hissing how he dared!
"Yes, how dare he have a voice in saying what happened to him that doesn't conform to you," James said dangerously, that smile still in place turning eerie as he thought of yet more curses he planned on using on her someday soon.
Then she decided her message had not yet received, and took fifty points away from Gryffindor as well as another week of detentions.
Harry let out a low whistle even if his face was bland while he stated, "whoever would have imagined Umbridge would do me a favor in getting me out of an Occlumency lesson."
"This isn't funny Harry," James said flatly, his voice flat and his eyes flashing.
Harry raised his hands in surrender at once, wincing and regretting trying to make it funny even if in his own head he was still weighing the two on levels of awful and couldn't quite decide which was worse.
She stalked away with the magazine still in hand, and by midday had issued a new decree that anyone caught with this would be expelled.
Lily felt her mouth flop open in true resignation of the stupidity of these. How did they manage to keep getting more ridiculous with every one?!
The boys were so sick of these being made up on the spot and being passed as actual laws they'd even run out of insults for them, something they wouldn't have believed possible before.
For some reason, every time Hermione caught sight of one of these signs she beamed with pleasure.
"What do you mean, for some reason?" Remus asked Harry, he found the woman's own idiocy almost brilliant.
"Everyone already thinks I'm a nutter, and just cause I said something in a paper wouldn't really change that," Harry said, his spirits clearly hadn't kept hold of that warmth pushing back at the Ministry this had originally given him. "Now there's no way anyone's going to risk getting expelled just to hear my account of being a madman even more."
"Oh Harry," Sirius chuckled, while James shook his head affectionately. "You have no idea what Umbridge just did."
Harry continued to just look around at them, but Sirius kept going before Lily could explain like she was clearly fixing to.
Harry asked what had her in such a good mood, and Hermione explained that if there was one thing Umbridge could have done to make sure every single person read that, it was banning it.
Harry still didn't seem to get it, and was opening his mouth to interrupt again to say so, so Lily did state, "remember back to your first week, how you suspected everyone was talking about your first detention in hopes you'd start shouting at them as well?"
He didn't have to think long before the realization hit, and he nodded as she finished, "they do want to hear you, it's far easier to form an opinion of a first hand account rather than what Dumbledore said. I'm not promising it will change everyone's minds, but those letters you were sent was the perfect example of how this will put things inside school as well."
Harry suddenly turned eagerly back to Sirius now, hope finally filtering through every bit of him! Umbridge had managed to take away yet one more thing about school he loved, now he had managed to circle back around to being banned from Hogsmeade again. In return, she may have gifted him with his best weapon yet in spreading his story for him.
Hermione's statement turned out to be very true. They could no longer walk down the corridor without hearing people talking about the article, but not a corner of The Quibbler ever came into sight. Hermione even said the girls restroom was filled with telling each other about it.
"There's evidence as if we needed it," Sirius snickered.
Then the occupants had spotted Hermione and knew she knew Harry, and they'd bombarded her with questions, and they all seemed convinced of him now.
It was amazing to finally see him smiling in here, practically glowing. The idea of what he'd been put through this year had weighed on him for so long they'd hardly been able to recognize it until it was being lifted away before their eyes. Finally, something had gone right for Harry, and no one, not even Umbridge was taking that away.
Meanwhile, Professor Umbridge was stalking the school, stopping students at random and demanding that they turn out their books and pockets: Harry knew she was looking for copies of The Quibbler, but the students were several steps ahead of her.
All four of them already had that flippant smile set in place, one Harry had grown to associate with their idea they'd never be caught by the teachers of that school. The lot of them weren't long from their own teen years and hiding things from anyone and everyone, and they couldn't wait to see how others were doing the same.
The pages carrying Harry's interview had been bewitched to resemble extracts from textbooks if anyone but themselves read it, or else wiped magically blank until they wanted to pursue it again.
"Passable," Sirius said reasonably.
"Sometimes subtler can be safest," Remus shrugged.
Soon it seemed that every single person in the school had read it. The teachers were of course forbidden from mentioning the interview by Educational Decree Number Twenty- six,
"I never thought the idiocy of that one could be passed, could I please stop being proven wrong," James rolled his eyes.
but they found ways to express their feelings about it all the same. Professor Sprout awarded Gryffindor twenty points when Harry passed her a watering can;
"My favorite thing that teacher's ever done," Sirius chuckled.
a beaming Professor Flitwick pressed a box of squeaking sugar mice on him at the end of Charms before hurrying away;
Lily giggled affectionately for her old favorite teacher.
and Professor Trelawney broke into hysterical sobs during Divination and announced to the startled class, and a very disapproving Umbridge, that Harry was not going to suffer an early death after all, but would live to a ripe old age, become Minister for Magic and have twelve children.
All five of them got a crack out of that one. They seemed to forget a lot how much fun Trelawney could be and enjoyed the reminders.
The best part of all was Cho catching up to Harry, lacing his hand with hers as she whispered in his ear that the interview had been really brave and made her cry.
"Was, that an apology, or...?" James trailed off with a furrowed brow.
"She was holding his hand, I'll take that as a sign of forgiveness for meeting up with other girls," Sirius rolled his eyes at the girls further dramatics.
Harry had a soft smile in place, he was happy he'd found some more even ground with her, and they all wondered if they'd been dead wrong at the end of Harry's first date. Maybe he and Cho did make up and further on from there.
He was sorry to hear she had shed even more tears over it,
Lily couldn't help a further smattering of giggles, all boys considered crying a bad thing, even tears of joy.
but very glad they were on speaking terms again, and even more pleased when she gave him a swift kiss on the cheek and hurried off again.
Harry touched the spot on his cheek, his smile growing more as his face took on another tinge of red, and for once he could easily ignore the snickers of those around him. He could still feel something for Cho, and though it didn't feel nearly as powerful as he thought it would if he'd married her, perhaps his full memories just hadn't been returned yet and he'd have even more happy memories of sharing time with her.
Unbelievably, no sooner had he arrived outside Transfiguration than something just as good happened: Seamus stepped out of the queue to face him.
"Finally!" Remus said in relief. It hadn't exactly been a major drama, but it was still boggling the idea one of Harry's roommates had taken so long to believe Harry. Even not being close friends, Seamus really would have been expected to be one of those who'd know better.
He spoke to Harry's knee as he mumbled his apology, but firmly said he now believed Harry and had sent a copy of that magazine to his mum.
"It's a start," Sirius raised a brow at that.
"I accepted it," Harry said agreeably, that smile was finally so carefree in here, they were all still smiling as well.
Still better, was that whomever would have retaliated such as children from the Death Eaters he had named, could do nothing,
Lily smiled grimly to herself, beyond pleased as she realized they now had names for all of Voldemort's inner circle. There were still more out there, there would always be more Death Eaters, but if she could find one good thing in the throes of these wretched things happening to her son, it was the justice those vermin would get.
because in doing so they'd admit to having read the article themselves.
James pumped his fist in triumph while Sirius cackled, all five of them beyond words at this level of comeuppance.
To cap it all, Luna told him over dinner that no issue of The Quibbler had ever sold out faster.
"Imagine that," Remus said dryly with a friendly chuckle.
Excitedly telling him that her dad was reprinting, people found this more interesting than the Crumple-Horned Snorkack!
"Miracles," Sirius almost managed with a straight face.
Fred and George chose to celebrate this by hanging up a large banner in the Gryffindor dorm, the poster of Harry's face that they'd enchanted to shout 'Ministry are Morons' and 'Eat Dung Umbridge' loudly through the room.
All four boys got yet more laughter out of this, though Lily thought that was pushing it just a touch too far. Umbridge hadn't yet, but she half feared at this point the woman would show up and give the whole house detention.
The charm wore off after a few hours, and by the time night rolled around it was merely squeaking 'Dung,' and 'Umbridge.'
"I'm actually quite confident it would still be amusing," James corrected, thinking of some clever things he could do if he figured out the timing of those words.
Lily didn't argue the point even as she watched his calculating look with exasperation.
To the disappointment of people still chatting to Harry about the article, he excused himself for an early night as his scar began to prickle.
They hated how short lived Harry's happiness was, but before their eyes they saw he was already starting to twitch with unease again, rubbing at his scar, his eyes taking on that glazed look of pain all over again.
The dormitory was empty when he entered, sinking onto his bed and rubbing at his forehead which was paining him worse every moment. Hoping sleep would help, he laid down, and instantly fell asleep.
Lily shivered down to her bone even before Sirius could catch his breath to keep going. Harry hadn't stopped rubbing his scar in here since it was mentioned, and he was looking just as sick as described. She wanted to make Sirius stop, to go get him a cold press for his forehead if that helped him even for a second, but she knew the truth, she was just delaying. They could all feel it was happening again, Harry's fingers trembling and him pulling into himself as some new terrible memory was resurfacing, and the faster they pushed through it the better.
He was standing in a dark, curtained room lit by a single branch of candles. His hands were clenched on the back of a chair in front of him. They were long-fingered and white as though they had not seen sunlight for years and looked like large, pale spiders against the dark velvet of the chair.
Sirius hung his head, shook it for a moment in agitation for having to be right about this, and then took a very long, deep breath before reading the latest travesty of Harry's life in having to see what Voldemort was up to. It was lost on no one this was yet another level of advanced, Harry now seeing directly into Voldemort's mind, the only thing that could be said was at least Harry hadn't been awake as well, he'd fallen asleep, so there was some consistency in this. Even that smallest moment of understanding and knowing one thing about this was of the vaguest comfort.
In the small pool of light was a huddled man. In a high cold voice resonating from Harry's throat, he spoke about how he'd been ill advised.
Sirius looked wildly around, and waited very impatiently for Harry to meet his eyes. He didn't quite manage it, looking more above his left ear, but Sirius said with such determination, that Harry felt he had no choice but to look him full on, "that is not you!"
Harry had no response for that, but clearly Sirius wasn't doing a thing until he got something, so Harry gave a wobbly nod to his head.
The kneeling man craved his pardon, Harry responding that it was not Rookwoods fault.
Sirius twitched harshly again at having to say that, Harry half expected him to chew off his tongue in frustration, but thankfully he didn't call Harry on it again, they all knew it was only in Harry's mind so that would be how he'd describe it.
Then he demanded Rookwood was sure of his facts?
Rookwood seemed to agree, having worked in that Department after all.
Harry responded that Avery had told that Bode would have been able to do it.
Rookwood corrected Bode, the man himself would know it, which is likely why he'd fought so hard against Malfoy's Imperius Curse.
Remus could feel the usefulness of this information relating to a past event they'd heard about, but for now he was far more concerned hearing Harry wake up already and filed it all away. Unless Voldemort was going to be revealing his mortal weakness, seeing Harry in such intense pain from remembering this would never be worth it.
Harry whispered for Rookwood to take to his feet, and the man was in such haste to do so he nearly fell to the floor again. Even having accomplished this, he still stayed stooped, as if terrified to meet Harry's face.
James felt a disgusted taste lingering in his mouth at such an act he could never comprehend. Such proud Death Eater's treating any man like this was beyond him.
Harry praised Rookwood for this, murmuring they would have to begin again on new schemes with this information. Then he asked that Avery be summoned to him.
For the moment he was alone, Rookwood scrambling out of sight to do as told, Harry turned and found an image of himself in a cracked mirror. His eyes were red with slits in a flat white skull.
Harry hollered loudly in pain, screaming no! Ron found him like this, tangled in his bed curtains.
Sirius closed his eyes in blessing that was finally over, his grey eyes looked ready to shatter as he looked back to Harry with more concern than he ever had for anyone in his life.
Harry wasn't looking at any of them, his eyes tight shut and his jaw aching from clenching it so hard to stop his own scream. He hated these visions, hated how they kept inexplicably reminding him of this connection to Voldemort he had no control over, but most of all he couldn't stand to look at his parents while they were happening. The monster that had cut their life short, and Harry kept reminding them of it all happening just by continuing to live.
Inexplicably, they refused to think the same. That was the only explanation for Lily saying in a tone he could have easily found in Molly Weasley, "Harry love, we should take a break."
He opened his eyes slowly, breathing steadily through his nose to find the pair huddled into each other with, well him in their lap. Maybe they just couldn't disconnect the two from the infant who'd done nothing to the life he was cursed to live dragging everyone else around him with.
"No," he whispered, still unable to look at any of them, how his dad and friends were probably trying to stop themselves laughing silly at how he had to fight back tears every time this happened, wondering when Ron would start accusing him of the boy who cried wolf as it seemed he couldn't go any length of time without panicking over something. "No, I just want to," he gestured vaguely back at his stupid biography, trying to grasp hold of anything to take away these poisonous thoughts from himself. He felt like a curse, any managing of happiness seemed destined to be dragged back into the reminder of how quickly he could lose all of it.
Sirius couldn't make himself immediately keep going, sick with worry as everyone else for just what was going through Harry's head. At least no one he'd cared about had been attacked this time, but for a reason his godson could not explain, the more frequent these visions, the more Harry seemed convinced his life was going to end in ruin. He couldn't imagine how these could continue to get worse, but surely if they were to get better he wouldn't be treating these like a death omen.
Remus had to nudge him hard to get his attention before whispering in his ear, "we can only help by continuing, that's proven to work already, don't let him dwell on whatever he's blaming himself for."
Sirius gave a jerky nod of agreement, fighting past blurry vision for the print again rather than focusing on his distraught godson.
Ron had to struggle with his friend for him to roll free, before demanding if his dad was okay, had that snake attacked again?
Not one of them could blame Ron for this assumption, they would have thought the same if they hadn't knowledge of what it had been.
Harry sat up wildly, convinced his forehead was on fire as he explained in gasping breaths what had happened. Ron at first couldn't grasp what had happened, Harry had seen You-Know-Who?
Harry shivered, his seat the only thing keeping him upright. He couldn't understand how Ron had never looked at him with revulsion like he felt for himself during this. Yet he'd found it no more in Ron's face than any of those around him. He wanted to believe that meant something, but he was too stuck in his own pit to grasp anything else except how much worse this was all going to get before these stopped, if they ever did.
Harry corrected he had been You-Know-Who.
Sirius at least looked a little quailed from his earlier outburst. Harry wasn't even referring to Voldemort by name, he was trying to put some distance into what he'd just witnessed. Harry could never really think he had more to do with Voldemort other than the constant...bother he was in Harry's life.
Then Harry went to talking about Rookwood, and Bode's involvement.
Ron realized that Bode was bewitched to remove something, the weapon.
That feeling of significance from before settled on all of them now, Ron and Harry working this out for them feeling like just a little weight had been pushed away so they wouldn't have to immediately speak of it again while in here. Sirius wished he could be closer to done with this already, he wanted to force Harry to take a break from all of this, but he seemed determined now. Any time Sirius stopped for too long or glanced towards the kitchen, Harry actually would meet his eyes. They were too hard, a distance in them he seemed unable to beat away, but he could still look at Sirius with an expression clearly saying he wanted past this and the only way to do that was for him to keep going.
The door opened then, Dean and Seamus entering. Harry straightened himself at once. Seamus had only just stopped thinking him a nutter, and he didn't want him thinking anything else odd was going on.
"Priorities," James managed to say. It came out far too high pitched, but Harry gave him credit for trying when he still couldn't stop rubbing at a scar that wasn't even paining him in here, only in his memories.
Ron kept himself close to Harry in the guise of getting himself some water as he told him he had to tell-
but Harry said he wasn't telling anyone anything. He wasn't supposed to have seen this at all because of his Occlumency, they wanted him to shut this out.
Both Sirius and Remus flinched like Harry had tried to curse them. In this future of trying to convince him he needed to stop these, now Harry had clearly convinced himself more than ever he should be keeping all of this to himself rather than asking for help.
James noticed, and said firmly, "Harry couldn't have told you even if he'd wanted to, there's no way he could get a note like that out." He finished internally he didn't even blame Harry at this point for not wanting to tell anyone else like Dumbledore. If the man couldn't be bothered to explain his actions towards ignoring Harry's existence than his son certainly shouldn't force himself to be in his company.
By they, he'd meant Dumbledore.
Sirius had looked just a bit better at James' reminder, but it was both of some comfort Harry hadn't meant him, and also just a touch more hurtful he hadn't crossed his mind in wanting to say something about this.
He got back into bed and rolled over so Ron couldn't do anymore, yet could not fall back asleep as his scar continued to burn across his forehead. He bit his pillow in his urge not to shout out in pain, as somewhere far away, Avery was being punished.
Lily made a high pitched noise of concern, her infant in her lap making some fussing noises at his mother's distress. She spent several moments just crooning to him it was all going to be alright while watching her elder child, who was watching back with a look she couldn't place.
The next morning, the two told Hermione all of this over morning break.
She quickly put it all together that this was why Bode had been killed. He'd been regaining himself back and could tell what had happened, and they couldn't have that. Malfoy must have done all this, as often as he was in the Ministry and all of his connections.
"This really is all making a disturbing amount of sense," Remus grumbled, this wasn't helping with their whole trying to change the subject thing. Of course it was a good thing Harry was finally getting some answers, it was absolutely fascinating one scrap of information and Hermione was putting all of this together so easily and saving them from false theories that would only hurt Harry in their speculation.
Harry agreed he'd been there the very day of his trial, though Arthur had only said he was trying to sneak down there for that-
Hermione cut him off by gasping out Sturgis. She realized that Sturgis had been another victim of all this, Malfoy must have tried the same ploy on him, shooting the curse in hopes of catching someone guarding the door, but the Imperiused Sturgis had been caught even earlier in his attempts to break in, hence where he was in Azkaban.
"Oh Merlin," Lily sighed as that was crammed down their throats. As if the Order wasn't suffering enough these days. They supposed if they'd thought about this one after the last revelation of where the weapon was being hidden they would have put this together, but considering all the terrible things they'd been trying to keep track of while also trying to keep Harry's mind off of them, it was almost a relief Hermione putting this for them.
Harry finishing now Rookwood seemed to have told how to really get that weapon, and would probably be sent to fetch it next.
Harry had hated his premonitions from the very beginning, almost afraid of this knowledge in his head he couldn't access in knowing these answers, and somehow the worst of all was the feeling he was getting for who it was that would be sent for this.
Hermione went from nodding in agreement, to abruptly telling Harry off for having seen this at all.
"Well he's hardly been given a suitable way not to," Sirius scowled for her sudden change.
Lily frowned deeply, wishing Severus had given something more useful to Harry than the same repetitive advice that clearly wasn't being of much help.
Harry was taken aback at her change, but Hermione sternly insisted he was supposed to be closing his mind to these things and should be practicing harder at his Occlumency.
"It's almost hurtful she thinks I'm not," Harry grumbled, shaking his head and honestly wishing this whole thing would quit being mentioned lately.
Harry was so angry with her he didn't speak to her the rest of the morning, and his day didn't improve from there. The students were still laughing loudly about the last Quidditch game, and Weasley is our King erupted so frequently in the corridors Filch banned it from sheer irritation.
"The first good thing that man's ever done," Remus groused, Harry's mood feeling like an infection. They hadn't kept him smiling for a whole chapter before his high anger was pushing them all back on edge.
The week wasn't going much better, he couldn't shake that dream, but didn't bring it up again as he knew Hermione would only further tell him off for it.
All four of them could be seen rolling their eyes as Hermione continued to act more like a paranoid parent than anything, it wasn't soothing any nerves she couldn't be of any more help than Snape with anything to say other than more practice at something that was just causing Harry pain.
He wished he could talk to Sirius about it, but as that was out of the question, he tried to keep the idea at the back of his head.
Sirius chewed on the inside of his cheek unhappily for a moment, but was all the more agitated he couldn't come up with anything to tell Harry either except more transparent hope.
Unfortunately, the back of his mind was no longer secure these days.
His next Occlumency lesson went the same as always, constantly finding himself on the floor with a swirl of memories, mostly from his primary years and Dudley's old humiliations on him.
"Oh because that's really going to make me feel better," James said bitterly, fighting back the urge more every moment to walk out of the room and find something to curse.
Snape had again cut the connection, and demanded to know what the last one seen was?
They all jumbled together so much for him, Harry thought he was asking about the toilet.
"Err," Remus began, unsure if he wanted an explanation or it would only make things worse.
"I was eight," Harry began prattling off just for the sudden possession of not having to think about magic for a moment, who ever would have thought being bullied by Dudley would be considered a simpler time for him. "Petunia had just got done cleaning the bathrooms, and Dudley was bored so he wanted to see her yell at me. He tried to pick me up and put me in so I'd have to walk around the house with wet feet. That's where the memory ended for Snape," he finished, but continued on even though he didn't really want to, Remus had been right the first time, this probably wasn't going to make them feel better. "I bit Dudley so I wouldn't go in though, and then I ran out of the house till I came back near dinner, which I was denied and locked in my cupboard for because Vernon said the the teeth marks were still there. He told Dudley to bite me back, but he didn't want to because he said it was gross. So I said back I thought I should spend the night in the bathroom, I'd already been throwing up all day from nicking him."
He finished and looked around at them again, expecting to see yet more anger or something, but instead he saw an almost proud smirk from James. "Always love hearing you gave them hell back."
Harry managed an honest grin at him, hoping he'd return the favor by telling him some story from his youth again, and James happily provided. "Reminds me of the time Sirius bit Remus, and we got into this whole argument about what would happen if a werewolf bit a person while he was still human."
Harry busted out laughing more from surprise than anything as he demanded the obvious from his godfather, "why did you bite him?"
"I told him if he took one more of my sugar quills I would," Sirius shrugged, "he clearly didn't take me Siriusly."
Harry doubled up laughing all the harder while Remus rolled his eyes at the lot of them and tried to take the book away from Sirius to keep going. Sirius bared his teeth, Remus rolled his eyes harder, but Sirius kept going.
Snape corrected the one with the kneeling man in the dark room.
Harry denied knowledge of it as Snape tried to bore into Harry's eyes. Remembering eye contact was key in catching a lie in Legilimency, Harry looked away.
"I'm disturbed he's parted wisdom on you," James tisked even as he approved of this.
Snape was not fooled, asking how that particular place wound up inside his head?
"He has a very vivid imagination," Sirius snarked.
Harry tried to play it off as a dream, but Snape cut him off by demanding if Potter remembered why Snape was giving up his evenings for this tedious work.
"As opposed to counting your friends again?" Remus smirked.
"All none of them," Sirius agreed.
Lily frowned lightly at them, and James who wasn't bothering to repress a smile. She may be angry at Snape for treating Harry the way he was, but she still knew she'd never devolve into such petty insults.
Harry responded it was to learn Occlumency.
Snape said that Potter was correct and dim as he was, Harry finally looking back to him with hatred,
"That went without saying," James groused, Lily's eyes flashing in agitation again at once. Even for the one second she'd wanted to defend him it was gone again as he continued insulting her boy who in no way deserved it.
he would have expected after two months some progress. Then he asked how many more of these dreams had occurred?
Harry lied and said no more.
Again, Snape did not believe him, then asked if Potter was even trying? Perhaps he enjoyed these visions, thinking it made himself special, important.
Harry snapped how untrue this was.
Snape coldly responded that was true, he was in no way special or important. It was not of his business what the Death Eaters got up to.
Harry shot back that was Snape's job.
Sirius cocked his head to the side, some amusement for Harry snapping at him in there, but mostly wanting to make the jab Harry could do Snape's job and they wouldn't need the man around at all. It was all lost though before he'd even formed the idea, he still didn't want Harry having to deal with this, let Snape take the risk.
There was a glint in Snape's eyes as he whispered that was true at least.
"You impressed him," Lily said, narrowing her eyes curiously at such a response.
"I think I'm going to faint," James declared, they all looked astounded Snape hadn't just told Harry to shut his mouth again.
Then he at once pushed Harry into going again, hardly waiting past the count of three before Legilimens was used on Harry, and again he was flying through a whirl of memories. He was surrounded by a hundred dementors, he could see their shapeless mouths coming closer, but then he was back in Snape's office, the two overlapping each other and wobbling...Harry collected himself long enough to shout 'Protego.'
"Oh dear," Lily turned flat white in shock, but she hadn't a second to say anything even if she could have hazard a guess what this would do.
It did nothing to stop the flood of memories, but suddenly they weren't Harry's. A little boy sat in the corner crying as an unfamiliar man with a hooked nose shouted at a cowering woman with greasy black hair- a teenager sat alone cursing flies off his ceiling- a girl was laughing as a scrawny boy was thrown from a bucking broomstick-
She wasn't sure if Sirius just didn't care, or didn't know what that would do, but by the time he'd realized it, he'd simply kept going until he ran out before looking around at his friends with a contemplative look on his face.
"Well, err, I recognized that last one," Remus said awkwardly for Harry. "That was Mary Macdonald laughing anyways, our flying practice during first year."
Harry hardly heard him, the same stunned look on his face as the rest of the boys, before they all looked to Lily, who sighed deeply. "I'm not telling you, it's private." She said flatly without looking at any of them.
The fact that she knew what that first memory was about somehow made it even more awkward for them. Still, Sirius turned back with the same look on his face he always did when reading about Snape, he didn't consider how a parent treated you any excuse for what the guy kept doing to Harry.
Snape cut these off, Harry falling back as if shoved in the chest. He again found himself on the floor, looking up at his potions teacher.
Snape spoke in a carefully controlled voice that had actually been of some improvement, brushing his hand against the Pensive that was again in the room, as if checking to make sure the rest of his memories in there were intact.
"And now we see why," James muttered, his eyes still narrowed as he thought back to many insults he'd made in the past, and actually feeling a little bad for a few of them. He knew Snape would never do the same though, Snape knew everything Harry had gone through in his life and continued to treat him the exact same way.
Harry did not speak, feeling in the most danger yet. He was reeling that the same crying child had grown into a man with such loathing gazing down at him.
Lily had a hard time swallowing for a moment, stinging tears in her own eyes as vivid memories from her own childhood resurfaced. Realizing he'd run to her house in the dead of night and throwing rocks at her window until she came sneaking down. The two staying up in their little grove till sunrise wishing there was some escape from those who hated them. At least her own parents had been a bridge between her and her sister, and she'd tried to be that for Sev and his parents, but it had never truly worked, and she'd never even bothered to find out if it got better after she'd stopped speaking to him. She blinked back into the room to find James with his arm tight around her, brushing at the baby's hair and actually holding his tongue against whatever that look meant until she nodded to Sirius to keep going.
Snape instructed Harry to get to his feet, they were going again. Harry did so with dread, knowing he was about to pay for what he'd just seen.
Sirius ground his teeth together hard in frustration for that. Harry was about to be punished again for something from Snape's past.
Harry had not a second to collect himself before it started again, but this time he was revisiting the dark corridor from his memories. As always he ran down, and the blue light was peeking through again. Harry reached for it, and this time, the door opened.
He was in a circular room with floor and ceiling black as night, even more doors on every side of him, the only light coming from blue candles mounted on the walls. He had to keep going, push through into one of the next doors- but then he was back in Snape's office, the man glaring at him with more anger than ever.
Harry gasped wildly, startling so bad he nearly fell out of his seat. Sirius glanced to him in concern, then looked to the others for some sort of explanation. They all looked just as stunned though, unable to understand what was happening here.
"Harry's never been this far before, and Voldemort shouldn't have either!" Lily protested what she was hearing vehemently. "No one should be seeing this!"
"Maybe, maybe Rookwood has though," James ruffled up his brow as he considered the latest Voldemort news. "He worked in this place, right? So he would have shown Voldemort everything he'd seen, and now, now Harry knows as well," he finished sounding just as confused as when he'd started.
"Should it really work like that though?" Harry sounded just as panicky as his mother. "I don't want to know this, see this! I don't want all of his memories and anything he knows in my head!"
He sounded so desperate and panicky by the end, it truly broke the others hearts to see him like this.
"Oh Harry," Lily pleaded, letting the words tumble out on pure instinct. "You can't keep thinking like that-"
"How else am I supposed to think when it keeps being shoved at me!" He snapped back, but Lily wouldn't be deterred.
"You remind yourself why you're doing this! If you want Voldemort out of your head, then you work on every available way to do that! You're worried Voldemort's taking over your life then you remind yourself of all the people who are on your side and fighting to get rid of him!"
Harry kept watching her like he hoped she'd keep going, but she met his eyes and waited as they ebbed back into that calm, that understanding that had pushed him to cope with every terrible thing he'd relearned while here.
She nodded fiercely and waved Sirius on. It seemed to take him a moment, to watch the fifteen year old girl crying over the loss of her childhood friend be flipped into that mother who refused to see her child fall into the same hopeless feeling. He went back to reading with a smile of pride on his face.
He was panting as though he really had experienced all this in person.
Harry couldn't believe how grateful he actually felt towards Snape for stopping this. It was the first time in his life he looked past the hateful potions teacher and knew Snape could actually be of some help to his life if he'd quit insulting him every step along the way.
Snape demanded Harry explain that one, and Harry rubbed at a lump on the back of his head from falling down again while honestly saying he had no clue what that had been, he'd never been that far before-
Snape cut in hatefully he wasn't working hard enough!
Harry rubbed at where the lump used to be, suddenly more ashamed than ever for is poor Occlumency skills. His mother was right, and so was Snape, he'd never really tried to do this. It was of some comfort to him his father and friends rolled their eyes for Snape's jab, that they weren't blaming Harry for this...yet. He pulled away from that at once, there would never be a time they'd blame him because of whatever this connection was, right?!
Potter was lazy, and sloppy, it was no wonder the Dark Lord was-
Harry cut in to ask why Snape called him that, he'd only known Death Eaters to refer to him as such.
Snape opened his mouth, a crude retort clearly awaiting, when a woman screamed.
Sirius startled so bad he nearly dropped the book from surprise. Then he cast his mind out before anyone could get too panicky, and said the first thing that came to mind. "Finally, something entertaining is happening around there!"
Remus gave him a look of great concern as he demanded, "just what could a scream be used for as a good thing?"
"For shame Moony!" Sirius wagged his finger in his face. "Scream of surprise, scream of delight, hell even screaming in laughter! Don't get so dower on me a scream is only a bad thing now."
"I worry about him," Lily told James in an almost conversational tone of voice.
James agreed, but instead he told him, "well get on with it then, or we'll be spending the next hour with you recanting the last time you made a girl scream, and no one wants to hear that again."
Sirius rolled his eyes but complied anyways.
They both looked sharply to the ceiling, Snape asking if Potter had seen anything this would relate to on his way down here?
"Someone standing in the middle of the school screaming? Oh yeah, just slipped my mind," Remus rolled his eyes.
When Harry said no, Snape strode out, and Harry only hesitated a moment before following.
"I'm not even sure why you hesitated," James scoffed.
The scream appeared to have resonated from the large ring in the Entrance Hall, and Harry have to shove his way to get a view. The first face he registered was across the ring, McGonagall looked faintly sick at the proceedings.
Lily felt goosebumps erupt on her at this. If whatever was happening was upsetting McGonagall, but she wasn't stepping in, then what the bloody hell could be happening!?
Then he fully saw Trelawney in the middle, looking more mad than ever. She'd clearly fallen down the last flight of steps, her hair was flyaway and her glasses askew, all of her beads in a pool around her as if she were melting. Even her luggage looked strewn around at her feet. She was gazing up at someone Harry couldn't quite see, who must be standing at the foot of the stairs.
"What in the world..." Remus tried, and failed, but the shock was keeping them all from saying much of anything, Sirius hurrying through words so fast they were mashing together. None of them had a very fond feeling for Trelawney, but it was impossible to believe she was a spectacle without anyone stepping in to whatever mayhem this was!
Trelawney shrieked this wasn't true, she couldn't accept it!
A girlish voice responded surely this wasn't a surprise.
Harry finally got around the last person to see Umbridge, brimming with glee as she gazed down, her voice more feminine than ever with her own delight as she explained that though Trelawney was incapable of predicting the weather, she must have seen this coming.
"You have got to be kidding me!" Lily shrieked, the baby in her lap now fussing in his blankets in her lap. "That is, this isn't, how could she-" she forced herself to stop screaming because her child had joined in, but the anger wasn't being cooled one little bit.
"Why can't this stupid curse kick in early already," Remus scowled. "I want her gone well before the end of the year, like the staircase collapsing on her right now!"
Sirius was too shocked to keep going for a moment. Like Harry had said before, this had been forthcoming with how obvious it was Trelawney may not be around the rest of the year, but no one could have foreseen such a brutal showing like this.
Trelawney had tears pouring down her face as she stated this couldn't happen, Hogwarts was her home!
"Does she even have anywhere else to go?" Remus whispered. He really didn't know much about her except for her classes, but suddenly he wondered if she was like Hagrid, if she had no other place to call home like a few of the other teachers did.
He hadn't expected an answer, and it was probably kinder he hadn't gotten one, no one wanted to consider the alternative.
Umbridge stated this was her home,
"This is..." sick didn't begin to cover it, but James was failing to come up with another word. He'd never even seen some of the Death Eaters out there enjoy watching someone else in so much pain, in such a public way!
until an hour ago when the Minister had co-signed the Order of Dismissal. Umbridge requested Trelawney escort herself off the property, she was embarrassing them.
"How she dare!" Lily was still fired up over every detail of this. "Them! She's no right to put herself in line with anything to do with that school, with a decision no respectable person would ever dream of putting together!"
Even as she said it, her own gloating euphoria didn't dim, she was clearly enjoying the show as Trelawney sobbed in place. There were some muffled crying to Harry's side as well, and he glanced over to see Lavender and Parvati clutching each other with tears in their own eyes.
James was shaking his head in honest sympathy for the two. Though he couldn't imagine just standing around crying during this scene, he knew he would have been in Umbridge's face telling her what's what about this even for a teacher he didn't like. The woman may have the audacity to kick a teacher out of his school, but she couldn't force that teacher to leave the premises...yet.
Then his mind offered one last desperate hope, where was Dumbledore? Surely he'd find some way to stop this? The idea was dashed as soon as it had appeared though, as Dumbledore hadn't seemed to be doing much of anything these days.
McGonagall did step in then, marching to Trelawney's side and offering her a handkerchief and a firm arm around her shoulders.
Lily finally felt herself relaxing, just a touch, as she hummed with approval. McGonagall could always be counted on to offer up some comfort to those who needed it, she was still stunned it had taken this long for their old Transfiguration teacher to step in for this injustice.
McGonagall comforted Sybil she wouldn't have to be leaving anywhere, while Umbridge tried to contest whose authority Minerva had to be saying that?
The front doors opened in that exact moment, and Dumbledore made his entrance.
"I feel the need to reiterate the book now," Sirius beamed, "what an entrance."
Remus smacked him lightly and called him an idiot even as he was smiling as well. Finally Dumbledore's timing felt like it was back on their side.
What he'd been doing on the front lawns was anyone's guess, but he swooped right in on the scene and informed Umbridge that was not her position to claim.
Umbridge made a tinkling laugh as she said she was afraid Dumbledore had misunderstood the position she was in.
"I'm afraid you've misplaced your soul, but I won't be the one getting it back from the dementor," Remus groused.
"Actually, I heard that if a dementor kissed her, she'd suck out its soul," James stated.
Sirius laughed, the first time he'd really been able to do so when mention of those things had come up.
She again flashed the Order of Dismissal, and her role as High Inquisitor gave her power to fire Trelawney, whom she'd deemed not up to scratch.
Harry waited for Dumbledore's reaction, but he only continued to smile.
"What's he got up his sleeve?" James demanded with sudden eagerness, his kindling of hope finally being given life again Dumbledore would pull through on making this actually somehow better.
Dumbledore did not argue that she had the right to dismiss his teachers, not not to ban them from the grounds, that was still his ruling.
Trelawney tried to cut in through her sobs she would not be somewhere she was not wanted-
but Dumbledore kindly cut in it was his wish for Sybil to remain here with them.
"Ha!" Sirius barked in triumph, all five of them seconds away from pumping the air in victory. "Dumbledore's not going to let Trelawney just walk away from this!"
Harry was still grinning along with the rest of them even as he distantly wondered if Dumbledore had some ulterior motive for this other than just proving a point to Umbridge. He wondered if he was growing paranoid, surely Dumbledore didn't have to have a second reason for doing everything.
He turned and asked McGonagall to escort Sybill back to her lodgings, and McGonagall kindly did so, Sprout hurrying forward to Trelawney's other side. Flitwick came up behind them and enchanted her luggage as the four went back up the stairs.
"I love this place," Remus said wistfully. His best memories had been collected in those walls, and now he was adding another from a time outside his own. He'd never underestimated how lucky he was to even be going there, to be treated like any other student on a daily basis, and now he was getting the fortune of watching the teachers band together for one of their own again. He didn't even pity Umbridge, but continued waiting impatiently for that toad to be ostracized from such a place already, for daring to tamper with such a home for so many.
Umbridge watched all this with a frosty expression, and demanded of him what was to be done with her when the new Divination teacher was appointed and needed lodgings?
"You'd have to put her in that exact place eh?" Sirius said poisonously. "No other bloody room in that grand castle would be good enough, you also need to invade her room!"
"Dumbledore won't let her," James said with conviction once again, even this small win of Dumbledore's against Umbridge had finally restored his lacking faith in his old headmaster.
Dumbledore pleasantly informed that wouldn't be a problem, his new Divination teacher would prefer a ground floor.
"He works fast," Lily said slowly as they all paused in confusion of this. Apparently this had all taken place in less than an hour, which means someone very close to the Minister must have warned Dumbledore this was fixing to go down and the man acted lightning fast in getting a replacement set even before Umbridge had gotten the paper herself. It couldn't have been Percy, but they couldn't think of anyone else who'd know about this and been able to warn Dumbledore in time for him to go fetch, well whoever was getting the new job.
Umbridge shrilly cut in he'd found a new teacher? By Decree number Twenty-two-
Dumbledore cordially said that the amendment was only there if, and only if, the Headmaster was unable to find his own teacher, and on this happy occasion he had succeeded.
All three Marauders burst out laughing, a near euphoric mood at their headmaster pushing such a loophole into that doughy face!
He waved back to the grounds of the school still visible from the left open doors, and offered to introduce him now. Only the soft sound of hooves was warning before half a man stepped into the light, with pale blond hair matching his palomino body on his horse half.
Dumbledore announced this was Firenze.
Harry gave an awkward smile for this announcement amongst the shocked faces. His only memory of the centaur wasn't a particularly fond one even if his life had been saved by him.
"Well, who would have seen that coming?" Sirius blinked in surprise.
"This certainly is, unprecedented," Remus agreed as Sirius passed Harry the book, very obviously keeping it open for his spot with an obvious look at James who didn't get it.
Lily ignored the lot of them. Though happy Trelawney got some kind of win out of this, couldn't help but say, "well considering he once saved Harry's life, let's at least hope he won't pick up on Trelawney's trend of telling Harry he's going to die."

Chapter 30 Chapter 32
"You need a cut,” I joke pulling some of his locks and Sirius complains.
"I don't want to, this way I look sexier!” He groans at her words.
"That's the problem!”
“I won't cut my hair, Percy. It is my essence…”
I make a face.
"At least you can grab it in a ponytail…” I run my hands through his locks, pulling them back and holding them.
"Does it really bother you that much?” He says disappointed.
"A little, it's not that I don't like it, but it covers your whole face,” I pout.
He sighs, grabs my wrist, and takes one of my hair ties. He settles into place and pushes all his hair back. Some strands fall on his forehead, but I don’t really mind.
"Happy?" He says with a lopsided smile.
“Yes."
I lean into him, kiss his lips tenderly and he quickly reciprocates me. After a few seconds I laugh when I feel his cold hands on the bare skin of my waist. He’s trying to lift my shirt a little to give himself more access. I move away for a few seconds, and he tries to follow my lips. My hands don't let go of his face.
"Ugh, can't you do your snogging session somewhere else?" Remus complains when he enters the Gryffindor common room. He sits in the single chair next to us.
"Don't be whiny, Moony" says Sirius.
“I have every right to complain, Padfoot. Especially if my best friend is eating my other best friend's mouth while she’s on his lap,” He says with a grimace.
"Jealous?" Sirius raises an eyebrow.
“No, it's just gross, stop doing it while I'm here. By the way, nice hairstyle, Princess Black.”
Before Sirius could answer him, a scream interrupt us.
“No is no, Potter! How many times do I have to repeat it for your little brain to understand?"
“It's just a date, Evans! What do I have to do for you to finally accept?"
James and Lily enter the common room and stand in the hallway.
"Nothing, you don't have to do anything, because I'll never says yes and you must get over it!” The redhead answers and goes to upstairs.
James groans and runs his hands over his face and hair in despair. He walks over and sits in one of the couches near us.
"Uh, mate?" Sirius asks.
“What?"
"You're good?"
The guy turns to see us, notices my presence and snorts.
"Not better than you, apparently…”
"I thought your relationship with Lily had improved," adds Remus.
“Me too!" He exclaims.
"What did you do?" Remus asks with a frown.
“Oh, sure. It's always my fault, it's the only logical explanation,” He says.
"Hey, calm down."
James grits his teeth.
“I don't understand what happened, she even started to listen to my ideas! But I went to look for her a while ago, I complimented her and it was like going back in time. She started yelling at me–”
I raise my eyebrows.
"Are you sure you didn't say something mean to her?" Remus asks.
“I swear I tried to be polite. I told her that her hair looked silkier than other days, that the smell could hypnotize me, today his uniform was perfect, I asked her if she had exercised and– oh her eyes! They shone with–”
Okay, that's weird. Something tells me that he’s hiding more things.
"I don't understand," says Sirius.
"Maybe she was mad before you arrived," adds Remus.
The three boys seem very confused and I roll my eyes. I get up from Sirius's lap and sit next to James.
"Maybe in your stupid head, that's the perfect compliment, Potter, but the reality is different.”
"What do you mean?"
"Was she alone when you arrived?"
"No, she was with her friends, I don't know what they were talking about.”
I laugh.
"More people were there?” He nods. "Did you even say 'Hello' before the compliments?"
"Yes, of course!” He’s silent for a few seconds. "I think so, but that doesn't matter, she’d already seen me as soon as I approached, she smiled at me! I couldn't help telling her all that!”
"There are many problems in your logic, James."
"Uh?"
I sigh and stare at him.
"I can help you, but first of all you must promise some things.”
James looks at me unsure.
"What makes you think I need your help?"
“Because you’ve had a crush for six years without success?" says Remus.
“Because we haven't been the best help of all,” adds Sirius scratching the back of his neck.
"Well, Ok, I understand,” He says returning to me. "What do I have to promise?"
"You will do exactly what I tell you, then we’ll see what happens.”
"Perhaps this friendship did not have the best start, Singh,” he says with a grin. "But you know that I don’t follow the rules.”
I roll my eyes.
"Well, if you want Lily’s affection, you should change that,” I reply. He seems to hesitate. "And another thing,” I get closer. "Do you really want to be with Evans? You can choose any other girl, James. I'm sure that many would die to be with you. If you want to be with Lily, who’s also my friend, you must be sure.”
He thinks for a few seconds and then smiles weakly.
"I'm sure. I can't see my future without her, Persephone. It's something that has always been on my mind, I want to be with her.”
“Awwww," Sirius and Remus chant making me laugh.
“That is the answer I wanted to hear. I'll help you.”
This may end in disaster, but I’ve seen the change in Lily since I brought them together for the plan. And I know the redhead's feelings have changed, but she's too stubborn and headstrong to see it.
New plan: Get James and Lily together.
***
"Hello, Persephone.”
Marlene says coming to my side.
“Hello," I say and then yawn, making her laugh. We both continue walking through the corridors.
"Aren't you a morning person?" She questions.
“No, and it bothers me that you are" I joke. "What's your secret?"
She shrugs. "Sleep early.”
"Ha! You can't fool me. I know of your little escapes at night and yesterday was no exception.”
The blonde is blushing and now I laugh.
"Did Jenna tell you?"
"She always lets me know when she leaves.”
“That’s embarrassing!”
"Don't worry, I don't know what you do,” I wink at her.
"Oh look! There's Regulus,” She says, changing the subject. "He's your brother-in-law now, isn't he?"
We stop.
“It's not like I'm going to ask you what you do with my best friend. Although…” I smile. "If you want to hide it so much, it must be something very dirty.”
“Uh… I–I have to go to class, bye!" She says, leaving me there alone.
And Jenna complains that I don't spend time with his girlfriend. I say this is great progress.
I return my gaze to Regulus. He’s leaning against the wall in front of the room where I would have History. He’s reading a book, ignoring everything else.
I haven't heard from him in a while, every time I saw him in the great hall, he would do something to run away or ignore me. I don't know what his home is like after Sirius, technically Regulus is now the heir to the Black family.
I'm worried about him, I don't care if he hates me now, but this is all coming together and I'm not sure if he'll be able to take it or do something stupid.
“Hey,” I greet him. He lifts his gaze and closes the book.
“Hi," he fidgets uncomfortable.
"Uh, how have you been with all this?" I didn’t dare to say something specific.
"I don't think it matters much."
I frown.
"Reg–"
“Black," says someone behind me. I turn around, meeting Snape. "Don't get excited, I didn't speak to you," He says with a sarcastic smile.
I roll my eyes.
"What do you need?" Regulus asks.
"I need your help.”
“That's new,” I add.
"It's none of your business, Singh."
"I never asked about your bad boy business, Snape."
"Why don't you just go with the traitor and leave Regulus alone?"
"Aw, are you best friends now?" I turn to Reg. "Be careful, one day he can be a great friend and the next day he will try to kill you.”
“Persephone…”
"At least I know my place," Snape returns.
“As I recall, you’re a half-blood, Severus. All this blood stuff is important to everyone, but don't fool yourself by wanting to be part of the cool boys group.”
“Persephone!" Regulus grabs my arm. "I'll see you later, Severus."
Snape wants to complain, but Reg's gaze stops him and he leaves.
"Wow, I didn't know Snivellus was afraid of you."
"Stop playing,” He scowls.
"No, you stop acting like something that you’re not!”
"I don’t have time for this.”
“Please," I hold his arm. "Just talk to me. The wedding, and Sirius leaving… I really want to know if you're okay.”
He sighs and pulls his arm away from my grasp.
"How do you think I am, Persephone?" He clenches his teeth.
"Tell me!”
"All my life I’ve been told that Sirius is the one who should take the place of my parents and follow the legacy, I never had that pressure, but now he’s gone and all the weight fell on me–”
“Reg…”
“Now what I hear are orders, tasks, everything Sirius should have done,” He laughs cynically. “I also hear insults towards the great traitor and how selfish he is. At first I didn't want to believe it. I couldn't believe that my older brother, who I thought my friend, left without even saying goodbye to me. He never cared for me, what’s on his mind are his stupid friends and you. He preferred to choose another family. Maybe my parents are not the best, but what about me?"
I stand there, only capable to remain silent as I stare at Regulus’ pained expression.
“He never cared about me,” he repeats “Why should I care what happens now? I don't care where he is, if he runs out of money, if he's with you. I do not care.”
"I'm sure Sirius never intended to hurt you–”
"But he had more important things to worry about than even thinking about his little brother."
"It's not like that!”
“Come on, Persephone. You can be many things, but stupid is not one of them.”
“I'll talk with him. We can help you, Walburga and Orion won't take your feelings into account, Reg. You can run away too, I'll help you.”
“I'm not like Sirius,” He says ignoring me. “It's my duty to continue with the Black’s traditions and return the honor that my brother tried to destroy."
“No…”
"Goodbye, Persephone.”

James gets jealous of a person trying to flirt with Regulus. Reg is totally unaware of said flirting. Lots of fluff please.
James Potter knows somewhere in the deep recesses of his mind that he is overprotective of Regulus Black. He convinces himself that it’s merely a byproduct of Regulus being his best mate’s little brother. Sirius and Regulus have a tumultuous relationship even on their best days and James wants to be sure that someone is looking out for Reg – you know – for Sirius’ sake.
He’s also keenly aware that he’s lying to himself.
Somewhere around the time that Reg turns sixteen he also turns into a fucking knockout. James is aware of the fact that his best mate is good-looking but he’s never thought about Sirius in that context. Sirius is his brother, has been even before Sirius ran away from home and came to live with him. Besides, he and Sirius are too similar and them being friends is trouble enough.
All this is a long-winded way of saying James Potter is fucking gone on Regulus Black and he fancies him quite a bit. He’s all pale grey eyes and sharp cheekbones with curly dark hair that softens his features just a bit. James imagines what it would be like to get his fingers into those curls and kiss Reg until he’s breathless. He wonders idly if he would be Reg’s first kiss. The idea that Reg might have snogged someone else makes something dark and angry twist in James’ stomach.
Now that Sirius is living with the Potter’s, Reg comes to visit sometimes to see him. James likes to think Reg comes to see him too but he knows the main reason for his visits is Sirius. It doesn’t really matter because the point is that Reg comes over to James’ where James can keep an eye on him.
Reg is over and they’re all playing Super Smash on the Switch. It’s fun and easy being around the two Black brothers in James’ opinion. James and Sirius are so attuned to each other that they can have non-verbal conversations. He knows when they do it drives Reg a little crazy that he’s being left out. James would love to get to that point with Reg but having he doesn’t spend half as much time with Reg as he does Sirius, no matter how much he’d like to.
James and Sirius keep teaming up against Reg, both of them going out of their way to kill him over and over. He can tell Reg is getting annoyed with them and James is trying and failing not to find it adorable. Reg wrinkles his nose in annoyance and his cheeks keep turning red. James would very much like to kiss him to make him feel better.
Reg eventually puts down the controller with a huff. “You two are pricks,” he says, crossing his arms over his chest in a pout. “I’m not playing anymore.”
“Don’t be a sore loser, little bro,” Sirius says, ruffling Reg’s hair.
James can’t help chuckling when Reg makes a face at Sirius. “Fine, what should we do instead?”
“We could head down to the shops!” Sirius says excitedly. He’s already getting to his feet and sliding on his leather jacket despite it being the middle of summer and fairly warm outside. Sirius’ shirt is fashionably ripped along the front and he supposes that offers some kind of breeze.
Reg and James share a knowing look. They both know why Sirius wants to go down to the shops. There’s a secondhand shop where Sirius likes to find clothes while also flirting with the cashier named Remus. He’s so transparent that James is surprised Remus doesn’t hide every time Sirius comes in.
James shoves his feet into his trainers before trying and failing to tame his hair. It doesn’t matter how much he attempts to get it to behave, his hair seems to have a mind of its own. He glances at Reg in the mirror and notices Reg watching him. It makes a pleasing feeling radiate in his chest. He wants to ask Reg if he likes what he sees but Sirius is right there. Despite them being so close, James hasn’t worked up the courage to tell Sirius he’s into his brother. He isn’t sure Sirius will necessarily approve, especially if he knew all the things James has daydreamed about doing with Reg.
Reg catches James eye for a moment and then looks away quickly – more’s the pity – before sitting down on the bed and getting his Doc Martens on. Reg looks good in a pair of dark skinny jeans and a soft grey V-neck t-shirt that James has noticed matches his eyes. The shirt makes it so Reg’s sharp collarbones are on full display and James wants to bite them more than he can say, maybe suck a few lovebites onto Reg’s pale skin.
Clearing his throat, James figures they should get a move on before he does something stupid. “Should we get lunch while we’re out?”
“Good idea!” Sirius says excitedly. “Maybe I can ask Remus to join us if he hasn’t taken his lunch break yet.”
Regulus snorts. “That is if you can manage to ask him without looking like an idiot.”
James chuckles. “What’ll this be then? Attempt number...oh five hundred or so?”
Sirius scoffs indignantly. “None of those other ones count,” he says dismissively, tossing his long dark hair over his shoulder.
James raises an eyebrow. “And why’s that?”
“Because I say so.” Is Sirius’ less than inspired response. James doesn’t push the issue. He knows that after running away from home and moving in with the Potter’s, Sirius has been a bit out of sorts. Finding that shop and the cute cashier that works there have been something like a sanctuary for Sirius. Sometimes going to see Remus is the only thing that makes Sirius happy. Even if his attempts at flirting seem to constantly go over Remus’ head. James is pretty sure Remus just thinks Sirius is extra friendly and doesn’t get that Sirius is chatting him up.
There was one time when Sirius convinced Remus t go get ice cream with him during Remus’ break. It had been the happiest James had seen Sirius in a long time. He knew the “date” had been somewhat ruined by his presence but he’d wanted ice cream too. Besides, Sirius had looked a little lost after Remus had agreed to it. James had mostly gone for moral support.
Sirius goes bounding down the stairs like an overexcited puppy, leaving James and Reg to follow after him. James gestures Reg through the door first and then walks out after him. He resolutely does not look at Reg’s arse in those tight jeans. He’s got enough problems without adding that to the list, especially considering it’s a very nice arse.
It’s about a ten minute walk to the shops and they keep in line with each other, only breaking apart when someone else is on the sidewalk and needs to get by. There’s one moment when James has to put his hand on Reg’s arm to steer him out of the way of an older woman coming in the opposite direction. It’s sad that just touching Reg is enough to make James feel all gooey inside.
They go to the secondhand shop first, Flourish and Blotts, so that Sirius can awkwardly try and chat up Remus and maybe invite him to lunch. The store isn’t exactly busy for a Thursday afternoon. A few other kids around their age are there having been off from school. Sirius’ eyes are already searching the store for Remus.
Reg starts to wander off towards the jeans section and James decides to follow him, hopefully get some time with just the two of them. He pats Sirius on the shoulder. “Good luck,” he tells his best mate before going off to find Reg. “See anything you like?” James murmurs against Reg’s ear, making the younger Black brother jump slightly. He clearly hadn’t heard James approach and James can’t help smirking. Reg turns a delightful shade of pink as he chews on his bottom lip. James wants to offer to do that for him but he manages to hold his tongue.
Reg grabs a pair of red leather trousers and holds them up against himself to see if they’ll fit. James blinks a few times and hears a funny little noise escape the back of his throat without his permission. He’s fairly certain that if Reg buys those trousers they’ll be the death of James Potter. R.I.P.
Reg throws them over his arm and moseys on over to the next rack. James notices that Reg has long fingers, his nails perfect manicured to just reach the ends of his fingers. James feels the overwhelming urge to suck on them.
He follows Reg through another three racks to the point where Regulus now has his arms full of clothes. He looks around for the fitting room and James taps his shoulder, pointing in the direction he knows they are. Reg smiles at him. “You coming?”
James laughs. “I don’t know how good my opinion will be but sure,” he says with a good-natured shrug. He doesn’t exactly have much of a nose for fashion. His wardrobe mainly consists of t-shirts, sweats and jumpers. Most of his clothes are for function instead of fashion. Besides that, he’s pretty sure he would think Reg looked good in just about anything. Christ, he really has a problem.
There’s three fitting rooms, each one with a curtain to cover the occupant. James settles into a chair opposite the one Reg goes into and waits. He’s scrolling through instagram idly on his phone when he hears the curtain being pulled back. Reg steps out in his same skinny jeans but now in a red patterned button down shirt. He’s left the top few buttons undone and those damn collarbones are on display again. Regulus looks ridiculous good in red, the color of it matching his dark hair and features. James swallows thickly. “You look really good,” he manages to say, giving Reg a thumbs up like a moron. Reg smiles in return and does a little twirl. The shirt is pulled tight against his shoulders and damn, James really is in trouble.
When Reg disappears back into the fitting room, James cards his fingers through his hair in an effort to calm down. He’s about twenty degrees warmer than he was just moments ago. He grabs the front of his t-shirt and tugs it a few times to get some airflow against his heated skin.
Reg comes out of the fitting room several more times and each time James struggles to stay in his seat and not ravish the poor bloke. It’s been a few showings so far but Reg has yet to put on those leather trousers. James licks his lips in anticipation and hopes Reg is going to show them off to him. He wants it more than he can say although he’s well aware that it’s going to take every ounce of his self-control not to immediately rip those trousers right back off Reg.
The curtain opens and Reg steps out in the trousers looking like pure sex. James grinds his teeth together to keep his jaw from dropping. They fit Reg like a fucking glove, hugging his thin frame in all the right places. They make his legs look impossibly long until they disappear into his Doc Martens.
Someone wolf whistles behind James and he turns sharply to see who did it. Some bloke who looks to be a few years older than them walks over. He has blond wavy hair and a dopey looking smile on his face. “Those look so good on you,” the stranger says, openly admiring Regulus as if he’s a piece of meat at the deli counter.
James growls lowly and hopes he’s the only one who can hear it. It seems the stranger isn’t done complimenting Reg.
“You have to buy them,” he says, clapping his hands together once excitedly as if he and Reg are old acquaintances. “They look like they were made for you.”
Regulus turns so red he nearly matches the trousers he’s wearing. James finds himself scowling deeply and wishing he could shoot lasers out of his eyes at this guy’s back who is looking at Reg admiringly. “Thanks,” Regulus responds, smiling shyly.
“Not a problem at all,” the guy says, taking a step closer to Reg. “It’s not every day someone finds something so special, is it?”
“No, I guess not,” Regulus says in return. He looks down at the trousers and James knows that Regulus thinks this guy is talking about his clothes. “I’m Regulus, by the way.”
“Gilderoy Lockhart,” the guy says, taking Reg’s hand and tugging him closer so they’re practically chest to chest. “The pleasure is all mine.” This guy has the nerve to bring Reg’s hand to his lips and kiss the back of it like he’s some kind of fourteenth century knight at cout and not some douchebag in a thrift store.
James is out of his chair in an instant and is yanking Reg back. He notices that this Gilderoy guy has dropped Reg’s hand in surprise. “Hey love, you still had more stuff to try on, didn’t you?” James says, keeping his arm around Reg’s middle, pressing them together back to chest with no space between them.
“Uh…” Regulus says slowly as if he’s extremely confused. James can’t say he blames him precisely. This must seem like it’s coming out of nowhere.
“Excuse us, won’t you?” James says icily, guiding Reg into the fitting room and shutting the curtain more forcefully than is strictly necessary.
“Yes of course!” Lockhart says from the other side. James sighs in relief when he hears footsteps walking away from the fitting room.
Regulus turns in James’ arms and stares at him. “James, what are you doing?”
James lets out a whine. “I didn’t like the way he was looking at you,” he tells Reg simply, knowing it’s not really an adequate explanation for his behavior. He’s been acting like a jealous boyfriend and that really isn’t fair. He and Reg aren’t together no matter how much James might want it.
Regulus reaches up and traces James’ lips softly with his fingertips. “He was just complimenting me.”
“I know,” James says, frowning despite the fact that Reg is touching his lips and the intimate gesture makes him shiver with want. “Fucking creep.”
Reg laughs softly. “What do you want, James?”
“I want to bite your clavicle,” James says without thinking, just blurts it out like an idiot.
“Oh,” Regulus says, blinking a few times. “Not what I was expecting but okay.”
James whines again and pulls Reg closer to him. “Fuck Reg, please.”
“Please what?” Regulus asks, his eyes searching James’ for a moment. “Please let you bite me?”
James huffs in frustration. “Let me do everything to you. Kiss you, love you, keep you. Come on Reg, you’ve been driving me fucking mental. I’ll be a full blown nutter if this keeps up.”
Reg smiles and brings his arms up around James’ neck. James has a few good inches on Reg and he finds he enjoys the height difference. “I thought…” Regulus shakes his head once as if to clear it. “I hoped…” Regulus surges up and kisses James softly on the lips. “God yes. Yes to whatever, James. All of it.’”
James can’t help grinning like an idiot. “Was that your first kiss?” he can’t resist asking. He’s sure the answer is yes by how bright red Regulus turns.
“Shut up,” Regulus says, biting his bottom lip.
James extracts his arms from around Reg’s waist so that he can cup Reg’s face in his hands and hold him reverently like he’s something precious. He guides Reg’s face back to his and captures his lips in a much more fulfilling kiss, gently licking his way into Reg’s mouth. He’s going to ruin Reg for anyone else, claim him so completely that no one else will even think he isn’t already spoken for in every conceivable way.
When he finally pulls back from the kiss, Reg is looking slightly dazed. James takes it as a point of pride that Reg seems so effected. There’s plenty more where that came from.
“Come on,” James says, grabbing Reg’s clothes off the wall and draping them over his arm. “If Sirius is finally successful in chatting up Remus we might be able to get some time alone back at my house.”
Regulus chuckles. “I wouldn’t count on it.”
James winks at Reg. “I don’t care if I have to ask Remus out for him. I’m getting that plonker a date.”
Regulus shakes his head. “Are you just trying to facilitate getting some alone time with me or are you being a good friend?”
James shrugs. “I can multitask.” He takes Reg’s hand and leads him out of the fitting room. He nearly breathes a sigh of relief when that git Lockhart is nowhere to be found. They go up to the register where Sirius is standing off to the side, talking animatedly at Remus while Remus watches him with a bemused grin on his face. James can tell by how hard Sirius is working that he still hasn’t gotten the courage up to ask Remus out.
James reluctantly lets go of Reg’s hand in order to put his purchases on the counter. “Oi Remus, Sirius wants to take you to lunch. You interested?”
Remus’ eyes widen and he looks from Sirius to James and then back again. “Um, what?”
James rolls his eyes. “Do you want to have lunch with Sirius because he wants to have lunch with you. He’ll buy.”
Remus glances over at Sirius, as does James, to find his friend glaring daggers at him. “Uh yeah, I’d like that, Sirius. That sounds nice.”
“Good,” James says grinning triumphantly. “That’s all settled then.” He risks another glance at Sirius’ who looks wide-eyed and slightly shocked. Remus rings up Reg’s clothes and James is quick to pay for him because that’s what good boyfriends do. Regulus tries to argue about it but James waves him off.
James takes the bag offered to him by Remus and walks over to Sirius. “Oh, and since you now owe me one it seems like a good time to tell you I’m dating your bother as of about five minutes ago. See you at home!” He claps Sirius on the back and then offers his hand to Reg.
“What the fuck?” Sirius says, his brow furrowing. “Jamie, what the fuck?”
“Enjoy your lunch!” James calls over his shoulder as he gently tugs Reg out of the store. With any luck they’ll have a good half an hour or so alone. James has so many ideas of what to do in that half hour that his mind is racing. Number one goal is to snog Regulus as much as possible just because he can and then maybe just hold him for a while and then love him and keep him and cherish him because he does. He really fucking does and he wants Reg to know just how much.
James notices that Reg is still wearing those leather trousers seeing as he never had an opportunity to change out of them. James starts walking a half a step behind Reg so that he can admire the way Reg walks in them. Regulus seems to know exactly what James is doing but doesn’t say anything, just shooting James a smile over his shoulder. They’re still holding hands but their arms are stretched between them. James can’t help grabbing his phone and taking a picture even though it’s the most cliché Instagram photo imaginable. He posts it anyway just because he can. He captions it with “My boyfriend is smoking fucking hot. Someone call the fire department” because deep down James is a ridiculous human being and he can’t help bragging just a bit. He tags Reg in it and enjoys watching Reg pull out his phone from the notification and looking at the post.
Reg stops walking and turns towards James. “You’re an idiot,” he says fondly, tugging James forward and kissing him.
“It’s official now,” James tells him, grinning against Reg’s lips. “You’re stuck with me.” He kisses along Reg’s jawline and down his neck before nipping playfully as his collarbone. It’s everything James hoped it would be. Reg does a sharp intake of breath and tangles his fingers in James’ hair. “Come on, I want you all to myself.” James links his arm around Reg’s waist and guides him back on the path towards James’ house.
Reg drops his head onto James’ shoulder and sighs contentedly. “Want you more.”
“That is actually impossible,” James informs him, pressing a kiss to Reg’s temple, his cheek, just behind his ear.
Reg laughs breathlessly. “It’s not a competition, James.”
“Well if it was I’d be winning.”
Regulus shakes his head in amusement. “I’m pretty sure this is a win-win scenario.”
“Fine,” James concedes, kissing the corner of Reg’s mouth. The walk home has never felt so long before and all he wants is to be able to kiss Reg properly. He’s got a lot of time to make up for. A lot of daydreams to fulfill. “You’re mine and I’m yours. Deal?”
“Deal.”
