All For You, my jegulus Kreacher Saves Regulus story, only has one year written and it needs heavy edits. With fresh energy today I decided to give it a go so that I can get it done and move forward with the story again. Only *Part one* is 145 pages. That's one year out of many.

This thing is going to be a mammoth of a fic.

But I really want to be able to say I wrote it.

Most of our fanfiction is before his stay in Azkaban, so the details you're describing aren't relevant and hadn't been introduced into his life yet.

I would argue that if Sirius was vain and high maintenance as a teenager (which is possible), it makes what you're describing even sadder, because he entirely lost yet another part of what made him who he was. He lost everything.

He's not high maintenance during or after his years in Azkaban, but he could have been before. He was a hot teenage boy who cared a lot about his appearance including his hair and the clothes he wore. Of course he was vain, and he absolutely could have put a lot of time into that appearance. It doesn't reduce what he went through later to talk about who he was before.

“Sirius is high-maintenance” Sirius lived in Azkaban for thirteen years where he (most likely) had no self-care resources (considering how all the previous prisoners were said to look after they escaped) swam across the North Sea, wore filthy robes with matter hair down to his elbows and lived for a whole year in a cave, eating rats

I haaaaaate weak and dainty Regulus. That haughty, arrogant Slytherin quidditch player, brother to Sirius and cousin to Narcissa and Bellatrix, never would have settled for being anything less than the best. He would have been fast and ruthless on the pitch and taken a lot of pride in his competence and skill.

And it makes him a better fit for James for it. He could respect James for this, if not much else in their disparate lives. Their shared passion was absolutely a big part of their bond, in a jegulus world.

i think people brush past the fact that regulus was quite literally a man in sports. very much into quidditch, yes he likes books, yes he’s a strategist, a silent killer, but also. jock! i feel like jock is always james’ persona bc he’s a chaser but, regulus! he might not be the unit™ but a certain physique comes with the athletics. i offer you jock regulus who’s prideful and competitive and snarky and pissed off? just absolutely locked in the game?? jock regulus i mourn your loss everyday, i shall bring you back.

Always have struggled with this: do you pronounce Reggie with a hard or soft g? The names I'm familiar with that shorten to Reggie (rhymes with veggie) already have a soft g (like Reginald or Regina). But with Regulus having a hard g, I'm not sure if I should go with the traditional pronunciation or the hard g Reggie (rhymes with Peggy).

There was a fascinating poll that went around a while back about this, and the results were an even 50/50 split when I saw it, so I don't think either is "wrong."

I pronounce it like Redgie, aka exactly how you'd think it'd be pronounced if you saw it without knowing what name it was shortened from. Personally, I could never handle Reggy, so I just went with what was easier. But 50% of people say it, so it's not wrong at all!

I really thought I understood the Achilles/Patroclus jegulus comparison well enough but I just started The Song of Achilles audiobook and at one point I said "Oh Reggie" by accident because this is so spot on that if you just changed the names this could easily be a jegulus fanfic.
