An assortment of more or less ridiculous Danish phrases to incorporate into your day-to-day life! (part the 2nd)
strømpesokker (noun, fk. pl.) – socksocks Or stockingsocks, if you will. It's socks either way.
(hjemme)futter (noun, fk. pl.) – (home)choos I literally had no idea how to translate this, but basically futter (fut in singular) are like slippers or any kind of cozy, comfortable shoes you'd wear indoors. I don't know why we sometimes call them that, but fut is also the sound a train makes. Thus: choos.
blamsefi (noun, fk.) – blasmephy Blasphemy, but wrong because it sounds funnier like this
idyd (interj.) – indeed This is what we in Danish tend to call an undersættelse (see below) of the English indeed. I 'in' and dyd 'virtue', but it kind of sounds like deed. Again, I don't know anyone who uses this except from my immediate family
undersætte (verb) – transearly (extremely not literally) Allow me to explain: in Danish translate is oversætte (lit. over + set, likely a calque of Latin trādūcō via German übersetzen). When you underdo the act of oversætte, so when you translate something badly, especially if you do it too literally, you have not translated it – you have transearlied it (excuse my creative liberties here)
hils (verb, imperative) – tell them I said hello You can use this in literally any situation when someone announces they are going anywhere at all. To Austria? Hils! Grandpa's uncle's dog's funeral? Hils! The restroom? Hils! (even better if it's not a public restroom). However, this is traditionally used to tell someone to tell the person on the other end of a phone call hello from you
knep (interj.) – fuck (literally) Literal translation of English fuck. This is considered extremely vulgar in the same way that I think fuck is to especially older speakers of English (?)
stande (verb, dialect) – refurb An alternate way to say istandsætte (long, boring, standard Danish) in the dialect of the area of Jylland where I'm from (Salling). It means to fix, repair or refurbish
slo (adj., dialect) – stale Literally means the same as stale, which (imo) doesn't have an actual word in standard Danish. Your crisps got old and soft? Slo. Bread old and dry? Slo. Straw wet and moldy? Slo. Soda lost all its fizz? Slo. Again, this is sallingbomål <3
goddawsbjerg (interj.) – g'day-hill Say this when it is clear someone has not been following what has been said or has happened around them, kind of as to say "thrilled you decided to join us mentally as well as physically". As for the prevalence, I literally don't know anyone outside of my immediate family who uses this
idyllerisk (adj.) – idyllicish Literally just idyllic but funnier
bajselademad (noun, fk.) – pinchocowich Bajselademad is a portmanteau of the words bajer/bajser 'beer' (slang, so I used pint instead of beer) and chokoladelademad 'chocolate sandwich' (open faced, obviously). It literally just means a beer
puttesove (verb) – tucky-sleep A sorta cutesy, joking way to say sleep. Putte is the word for tucking someone in, as well as just chilling in bed – with at least a blanket or duvet if not several in addition to pillows
diskodaskoluderbenzin (noun, uncountable) – disco dasco whore gasoline Excuse the misogynistic overtones, but I just genuinely think this is a very funny was of describing low percentage vodka- or rum-basesd drinks (for example Bacardi Breezer)
kodyl (adj.) – aspirin Kodyl means great or exaggerated, and you can also use it as an interjection kodylt! like you would use 'swell!', because it is pretty outdated. Kodyl was originally a brand of painkiller
hurtigkneppersko (noun, fk. pl.) – fast-fucker shoes Expensive men's shoes, usually of some kind of skin, be it leather or snake. It implies the wearer of the shoes is a braggart with nothing to really brag about. This was added to the dictionary fairly recently, to the great amusement of many Danes
slam! (onomatopoeia) – whack! An onomatopoetic word imitating the sound of being hit. Used not unlike the (now somewhat outdated) English "oooh, burn!" or just "ouch!" to indicate that something said to someone in your company was (perhaps unnecessarily) blunt, rude, or just shut them down really quickly – like a slap to the face
hjemmebragt (adj.) – home mrade Or, more accurately, home brought. Most commonly used for baked goods (originating from hjemmebagt 'baked at home') that you intended to make yourself, but you just didn't have time, so you bought it at the corner store instead. Its use has, however, in my experience been extended to include most anything that """should've""" been homemade, but isn't
konge (adj.) – king When something is really good, it's konge. Anything can be konge, from a chair to the meal your mother cooked you on your bi-annual visit at home.
brugsvildledning (noun, fk.) – user misleader · deceptions for use A play on the word for 'user guide', brugsvejledning, swapping out the nominalised form of the verb vejlede 'guide, lead' for that of vildlede ' 'mislead, decive'
ork (noun, fk.) – bear An ork is something that you just really cannot be bothered to do, because it would require some kind of effort. Doesn't matter how much effort, as it could be anything from getting your drink that you forgot in your kitchen, only realising this after you sat down, to explaining to your homophobic uncle why it's not acceptable to call gay people slurs, even if it is "just a joke". Most often, it is the former of those two scenarios
dak (noun, uncountable) – boom* Short for dakkedak, which is an onomatopoetic name for music with a strong, repetitive bass rhythm. *this is a bad translation, but it's the best I could come up with
gråssenollike (noun, fk.) – greyish feather-brain A joke-y name for a house sparrow, gråspurv. Gråsse is presumed to either originate from plain gråspurv or gråsset 'grey-ish', and nollike is a word that can mean fool, but also be used about animals or women in jest.
skemad (noun, uncountable) – spoon food Literally anything you can eat with a spoon. I believe its most common use is for the food you first give babies when they are moving on from nursing to real food, but I know quite a few people who use it for cereal because we literally only have the word “morgenmadsprodukter” for it, which is a mouthful to say.

Well, That Bites ... (Part 2)
Ask and you shall receive.
Vampire!Shouta, (temporary)Werewolf!Hizashi, Human!Reader
Part 2 of ???
Hizashi is bitten by a werewolf and undergoing treatment to reverse the transformation, but in the meantime, Shouta needs a reliable blood source. You're a friend from school and aware of Shouta's condition and volunteer yourself as a temporary solution. It's decided you'll move in with them to make everything easier.
NSFW (Get your Smut here)
Part 1
When Shouta came home from teaching the next night, he caught you swiping on some dating app. You should really be proud of the restraint he showed in not immediately smashing your phone. The hair on the back of your neck stands on end, but it’s different than when he’s hungry. He shifts, his weight resting on the couch cushion behind you causing you to jump. “W-were you hungry?” He is now, but he knows better than to eat when he’s like this. Whatever … this is.
Shouta pulls Hizashi aside when he comes home for a little discussion. You were looking to date? But you’re theirs. Part of their colony, their pack. Weren’t they enough for you? Their behavior changes after that. Hizashi is clingy. All over you when he’s at home, more than usual. You start finding his clothing mixed in with yours when you go to do laundry. Not that you weren’t already picking up more of the housework. After your incident, the three of you agreed that you would take a step back from hero work, at least for now.
Shouta, on the other hand, becomes colder toward you. He stops sleeping in the bed with you, he doesn’t join in Hizashi’s cuddle piles anymore, he keeps his feedings to a minimum until they stop altogether. When you try to talk to him, he shrugs you off, retreating to his bedroom to brood. Even Hizashi is on edge around him. When you make a joke that he must be getting “hangry,” Shouta storms into the room dragging Hizashi away. He barely acknowledges you, snaping a harsh, “I’m fine,” as the door slams shut behind them.
You can hear them arguing in the next room. Hizashi’s fears that by pushing you away, Shouta is damaging whatever relationship the three of you have built over these few months. When Shouta finally admits that he hasn’t fed in nearly a week, Hizashi throws a fit, reminding him how dangerous that is. You stand by the doorway throwing out that you’ve been offering. Of course you had been worried, but you figured he made other arrangements.
Accusations are thrown around. Hizashi lets it slip that Shouta saw you swiping through the dating app. Why were you leaving them? Did you really think it was a good idea to bring someone else into this situation? It dawns on you then what it must have looked like. You assure them that you have no interest in dating right now. All, well most, of your needs are fulfilled. An associate was suspicious that her husband was cheating on her, and she asked you to see if he was on one of the apps. Your friend wasn’t exactly pleased with what you found (he was), but Shouta and Hizashi are put at ease by your explaination.
What was that about only most of your needs were being met? They’ll need to fix that. Go on, tell them what you need. You’re so shy. You’re all friends here. No secrets, right?
You’re already in their bedroom. It doesn’t take much for them to have you backed up against their bed. You swear you catch a flash of Shouta’s red eyes as they stand at the foot of the bed, waiting for an invitation. And invite them you do. Holding out your wrist as you normally would to let Shouta feed. He shakes his head, chest rumbling with a chuckle at the thought of taking you like this.
It’s a sight to behold as you sit there, fearless before them. They stalk closer, hunger in their eyes as they descend upon you. Hizashi’s behind you, lips on your neck as his hand slips just under the hem of your shirt. Shouta’s above you, kneeling between your legs as he grabs a handful of hair tilting your head back, forcing you to look him in the eye. “You have no clue how long I’ve been waiting for this, kitten.”
Sharpened fangs rake a long your neck, not yet piercing the skin. Quickening breaths fill the room with an erratic harmony of whines. Moans. Pleas.
Hizashi's erection digs in against your hip. You're turning to kiss him, and then Shouta, and then Hizashi again. Your shirt rides up exposing more skin for them to grope. Jeans are unbuttoned and belts unbuckled, the sensual slide of a lover’s hands as they ease tight fabric down thighs and over heads.
Minutes pass and the three of you are are enthralled in one another. It's almost as if they're waiting for you to give them permission to move further. Thumbs catch on the lace of your bra, your panties, digging in and kneading your supple skin.
“Please-” the rest of your words are gone before you can finish your sentence. Sharpened nails tearing what little fabric remains, your body bare before their predatory eyes.
Hizashi guides your hand down to his cock, rutting into it as copious amounts of pre fall from the tip, coating your hand as he chases his release. He stuffs his fingers into your open mouth, preventing you from silencing your cries as Shouta takes his place between your thighs.
Shouta's hands settle on your knees, spreading them apart. Your breath hitches as he leans down, a sly grin stretching across his lips as he assures you that you’ll make a lovely feast tonight. You had already forgotten how long it's been since he last fed. His words doing little to reassure you, you begin to squirm, but you're no match for the two of them.
Hizashi's fingers slip from your mouth. The thread of saliva disconnecting to fall on your chin. “How are you doing, sweetheart?” he asks. Those few words reassuring you that you're safe. All you need to do is say the word and they'll stop what they're doing.
You lick your lips, eyes meeting his. “I'm good.”
He smiles, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “That's right. You are a good girl.”
You're distracted, barely feeling the pinpricks when Shouta sinks his fangs into the femoral vein running down your thigh. You groan in … pleasure? Mind foggy with the promise of pleasure, clouded by endorphins and the venom seeping into your blood.
When Hizashi's spit-soaked fingers find your entrance, you see stars. The gentle flick of his thumb across your clit has your hips bucking against Shouta’s strong grip keeping you in place. Lifting his head from your thigh, he tsks at Hizashi, reprimanding the blond for making you squirm.
You can't help but be entranced at the sight of your blood coating his chin. Reaching out, you collect the trail as it runs along his neck. There’s a certain intimacy with how he takes your hand in his, kissing your fingertips before his tongue collects the traces of his meal. The reverence with which he lowers his lips to your wrist, kissing the barely noticeable scars from his past meals. The way his now clear eyes study your face, taking in the ecstasy from your other lover’s fingers curling into you.

Wei Wuxian and Narrative Agency – Part Two
For Xiantober Day Three: Conviction (of a sort)... in which the author temporarily forgets to focus on narrative agency or on Wei Wuxian, in favour of analysing relevant themes and characters that relate to Wei Wuxian. But he does get focus, and again, contextualising him is why i’m exploring these other things, so no harm done.
(Part One | Part Three | Full version on AO3)
It’s Not Just Optimism: Resentment and Self-Definition
Before we discuss the narrative again, let’s take a break to discuss one of my other favourite aspects of Wei Wuxian. We’ve seen how the narrative treats tragedy, and we’ll soon explore how it reflects Wei Wuxian’s views on tragedy. But what actually are these views?
Because the thing is – the narrative and plot can emphasise agency and choice all it likes, but focusing solely on that leaves out the character. And it’s Wei Wuxian’s character that deserves the credit for how he defines himself (…in-universe). If someone had gone through everything he had, who could blame them for being unable to keep going, unable to let go of resentment, unable to see anything that was still worth living for, to see any value in altruism?
(Also, I do have to emphasise this: you can have perfectly healthy coping mechanisms, but still get extremely traumatised. Everyone has a limit to what they can take, that limit differs, and that isn’t your fault. It just so happens that Wei Wuxian’s limit is extremely high (and even he reaches it when everything falls apart in such quick succession near the end of his first life!))
This isn’t something that’s ignored in MDZS. We see multiple characters who have gone through similar levels of suffering as Wei Wuxian, or even less suffering than him*, who do react in some of the ways mentioned above. Whether or not the narrative condemns them depends on if they hold onto resentment from their tragedies and use it to harm others – Xiao Xingchen and Qin Su, for example, aren’t condemned for their suicides (nor should they be, suicide/suicidal ideation isn’t anything anyone should be blamed for), because nobody was intentionally hurt as a result. But people like Xue Yang, who was treated cruelly and senselessly lost his finger, but went on to murder an entire clan as a result; or Jin Guangyao, who remembered the slights against him and his mother down to the exact wording of Jin Guangshan’s dismissal of her freedom, which may have justly hurt him but also unjustly lead him to both burn down a brothel and (separately) kill or imprison multiple innocent prostitutes; or Jiang Cheng, whose resentment for Wei Wuxian due to the latter’s actions lead him to harm many others after his death simply because they were similar**, are condemned.
Why mention this? Well, these different reactions show it isn’t just a quirk of the universe that people are more tolerant to pain – Wei Wuxian’s reactions are a deliberate choice on the part of MXTX, not a writing flaw stemming from misunderstanding the severity of trauma***. But more importantly, many of these characters deliberately foil Wei Wuxian, and so they can give us a good insight into what sets him apart from them (or rather, from the characters who aren’t completely broken by their pain, because that way we know it isn’t simply a difference in tolerance but rather one in attitude). And as I’ve discussed, this has to do with accepting events and letting them go, rather than holding onto resentment.
Part of this may come from differences in personality (though that’s never an excuse for hurting others) – but, though Jiang Yanli may claim Wei Wuxian was someone “born with a smiling look” (Chapter 24, EXR), there are two philosophies Wei Wuxian consciously holds onto that have to do with this attitude:
“Let the self judge the right and wrongs, let others decide whether to praise or blame, let gains and losses remain uncommented on.” Chapter 75, EXR translation
“Remember the things others do for you, not the things you do for others. Only when people don't hold so much in their hearts would they finally feel free.” Chapter 113, EXR translation
And crucially, these ideas directly contrast the actions and mindsets of the antagonists above. All three focus on their ‘gains and losses’, with their suffering at the hands of others being a major motive to harm those others/those affiliated with those others (Xue Yang’s finger; the slights against Jin Guangyao and his mother due to the latter’s job; Wei Wuxian’s ‘betrayal’ and his role in Jiang Yanli’s death, as well as false blame on him for the deaths of Jiang Cheng’s parents, and Jiang Cheng’s inferiority complex). Jin Guangyao and Jiang Cheng are also very focused on their reputation, or in other words, on whether ‘others decide (…) to praise or blame’ them (according to Chapter 10 of the EXR translation, in what seems to be omniscient POV heading into Jiang Cheng’s, the latter ‘cared about maintaining his reputation above anything else’. Meanwhile, much of Jin Guangyao’s actions were taken to protect his reputation, including the brothel burning, as a part of the aim was to conceal which brothel he grew up in (Chapter 104)).
Additionally, much of Jin Guangyao’s resentment stems from how others treat (‘blam[ing]’ him, insulting him), compared to how they treat others (‘prais[ing]’ them):
“But do you know what it was that made me lose hope completely? I’ll answer your first question now. It wasn’t that I’d never be worth a single hair on Jin ZiXuan or one of the holes in Jin ZiXun, it wasn’t that he took back Mo XuanYu, it wasn’t that he tried every possible way to make me a mere figurehead either. It was the truth he once told the maid beside me when he was out indulging himself again.” Chapter 105, EXR
Though the other points didn’t make him lose hope completely, the implication is that they did affect him too (as shown by how he speaks about them), with Jin Guangshan’s words about Meng Shi being the final straw. ‘Los[ing] hope’ here of course relates to holding onto resentment, as Jin Guangyao’s loss of hope is what led him to murder out of his hatred.
Finally, both Jin Guangyao and Jiang Cheng also hold resentment due to holding onto what they’ve done for others, or even onto who they themselves are, without being treated accordingly – and though it makes sense to be hurt by all these things and these reactions are valid, the pain from holding that in your heart and the danger from holding onto it is precisely why MDZS condemns it:
“Why is it that even if I face everyone with a smile, I might not even receive the lowest form of respect, while even though your father was extremely arrogant, people flocked to him? Could you tell me why we were born from the same person but your father could relax at home with the love of his life playing with his child, while I never even dared be alone for long with my wife, shivering out of fright at first glance of my son? And I was ordered to do such a thing by my father as if it was natural—to kill an extremely dangerous figure who could flip out and conjure up a bloody massacre with his corpses anytime! “Why is it that even though we were born on the same day, Jin GuangShan could host a grand banquet for one son, and watch with his own eyes how his subordinate kicked his other son down Koi Tower, from the first stair to the last!” Chapter 105, EXR
(He brings up his role in Wei Wuxian’s downfall due to this as well, in addition to creating any excuse he can to absolve himself of others’ blame – he’s being treated unjustly and hated for something he’s done, even though he was ordered to do that thing by his father and it made sense!)
Jiang Cheng, “Are you stupid? You only counted the time to return and not the time to go there? Let alone the fact that after I got there I had to lead people and search through the entire mountain for the old banyan tree, then dig open the hole that got blocked up by Wen Chao and his people, and rescue you within seven days. Where’s your gratitude?!” (…) He raised his voice, “You killed the Xuanwu of Slaughter together with Lan WangJi, bathing in blood! How great is that?! But what about me?!” He punched his fist into a pillar in the hall, clenching his teeth, “… I have also been running around for days, completely exhausted, with not one second of rest!” Chapter 56, EXR
(And, a bonus to show this being a part of Jiang Cheng’s mindset without stemming from being hurt by a specific event, even when he’s being encouraging:)
“So it seems that both of you killed it together. What’s yours is yours. Why would you give him all the credit?” Chapter 56, EXR
(This moment is a nice display of the contrast between Wei Wuxian’s and Jiang Cheng’s mindsets as well, with the former focusing on what Lan Wangji (‘others’) did for him instead of seeking credit for his role!)
To repeat – of course these feelings are understandable, and I’m not blaming them for feeling this way. What I am placing blame on is letting those feelings drive you to murder many innocent prostitutes, or to let this sense of a debt you’re owed (which is what the philosophy is actually warning away from, because if you hold onto what you do for others, the natural expectation is that they’re indebted to you and should do something for you as a result) turn into resentment towards someone for not acting the way you think they should, leading you to help murder them, even if your sister sacrificed herself specifically to save their life.
This is the danger of holding onto resentment. And are these actions not a choice? Would you, independent of MDZS, absolve someone of a crime because their ‘personality just leads them that way’?
The same is true for acting on these two philosophies, and letting resentment go. And it’s all the more impressive when someone has as much potential resentment to hold onto as Wei Wuxian does.
Of course, Wei Wuxian himself isn’t completely infallible – which further supports the idea that this isn’t just a natural, unalterable quirk, since we see him act contradictory to his usual self as well. But the narrative’s view of resentment in these moments doesn’t change. Importantly, the times he does let resentment drive what he’s doing, during the Sunshot Campaign and Nightless City (as well as him being quick to anger at Phoenix Mountain, etc), it isn’t presented as in the right**** — and though he still lets go of it quickly enough to protect a group related to the one that hurt him (people of the Wen sect, the cultivators who participated in the Siege), it doesn’t prevent the harm done during these times. Additionally, the times he metaphorically can’t control and reign in his resentment in the form of guidao – at Qiongqi Path and, again, at Nightless City – pain is caused to innocents (Jin Zixuan and Jiang Yanli). This is what his internal thoughts have to say when he comes across cultivators gossiping about him, shortly after Wen Qing and Wen Ning have sacrificed themselves:
No matter what he did, not a single good word would come out of these people’s mouths. When he won, others feared; when he lost, others rejoiced. Chapter 77, EXR
He’s hurt by other people praising and blaming him! Holding onto this philosophy isn’t automatic, that decision isn’t simply encoded within him somehow.
But that brings us to another relevant theme: that these characters aren’t infallible, because they’re not mythical creatures or concepts brought to life. Everyone is human.
However, although he thought that his heart was like a stone, in the end, he was still human, not some emotionless grass or plant. Chapter 8, EXR
OuYang ZiZhen, “HanGuang-Jun, why did Senior Wei collapse?” Lan WangJi, “Fatigue.” Lan JingYi was amazed, “I thought that Senior Wei would never get tired!” The other boys felt somewhat astonished as well. That the legendary YiLing Patriarch could collapse from fatigue from dealing with walking corpses—they all thought that the YiLing Patriarch should be able to settle them with just a snap of his fingers. However, Lan WangJi shook his head. He only said four words, “We are all human.” They were all human. How could a human be tireless? How could they stand forever? Chapter 84, EXR
Even with Wei Wuxian’s temperament, even with his attitude, he’s still human! Just as he’s not immune from being affected by harsh words to do with his past, just as he’s not immune from being affected by exhaustion, he’s not immune to being hurt by or angry at his circumstances. As we see in the Sunshot Campaign and at Nightless City, he’s not immune to dwelling on his misfortunes, to being driven by his hurt and anger and by resentment he holds onto (consciously! At Nightless City, Wei Wuxian deliberately accepts the curses thrown at him, because ‘anger was the only thing that could suppress the other feelings within his heart’ (Chapter 78)).
But nearly always, he chooses not to. The Wen remnants he saved were innocent, yes, and Wen Ning and Wen Qing helped him previously – but in his second life, he could’ve easily kept holding onto his resentment and left the cultivators who besieged him, who killed him and those under his protection, to die at the Second Siege. But he didn’t! He held true to his own philosophy, to judge the right and wrongs yourself independent of what others do, and saved them.
Because this is what’s important to him, because this is how he wishes to act in the present, and because he doesn’t let himself be defined by the tragedies he went through.
The donkey seemed as if it knew that he wasn’t in a great mood [due to others bringing up what happened in his past], and for once, it wasn’t being loud out of impatience. A moment of silence passed, and it turned around to leave. Wei WuXian sat by the stream, not responding at all. It turned around to look, throwing its hooves onto the ground, but Wei WuXian still paid no attention to it. The donkey had to come back sulkily, biting and tugging on the corner of Wei WuXian’s collar. He could choose to go, and he could choose to not go. Seeing that the donkey had [gone] as far as to use his mouth, Wei WuXian decided to follow him. Chapter 8, EXR*****
Immediately after this, he’ll continue investigating the puzzle of Dafan Mountain’s night hunt; he’ll come across a ghost, ask where it’s hurt and offer to take a look at it; he’ll rush off to save Jin Ling and the Lan juniors, figuring out the truth behind the dancing goddess and being the only one to do so. Just as it’s more important to the narrative, this – quick thinking, problem solving, compassion, doing the right thing, even seeking out excitement – is what Wei Wuxian finds more important about his own self, and what he chooses to focus on.
Some final questions to end things.
If you saw Wei Wuxian, without any knowledge of what happened in MDZS, without any work done by the narrative structure or by knowledge of tropes – would you have expected the backstory he had? Would you expect his parents to have died when he was at an age where he could barely remember them? Would you expect him to have lived on the streets until he was nine years old, or to have been taken into an unjust and extremely volatile household, or to have (chosen to) lose the source of powers he was very proud of – shortly before he was thrown, now powerless, into the equivalent of hell for three months? Would you expect his first life to have ended because protecting innocents (knowingly) led to the entire world crusading against him, because their siege resulted in him being torn apart? Or would you not think of tragedy when it comes to this person who gleefully jokes and teases, who’s so smart and competent and knows it, who doesn’t focus on the negatives, who acts so confidently on his morals, who revels in life so much?
If you only saw Wei Wuxian’s backstory with no context of his character, would you expect him to remain this way?
And, if you saw Wei Wuxian’s actions in the present day, without knowing what tragedies happened in his past, would he feel like an incomplete character?
It’s impossible to answer, of course – even in the present day, you get information about his past.
But I’m inclined to say no.

*But again, let me emphasise – especially in real life, doing the trauma olympics is never good! As I said, everyone has limits, everyone’s limits differ, and just because one person can cope with something doesn’t mean another person can, even with the same mechanisms. And that shouldn’t lead to any judgement!
I say ‘especially in real life’ because in fiction, some characters’ experiences are often made similar or different to others’ in order to parallel or foil them – in which case comparison is often the point. But trauma olympics (‘this person suffered x amount so the other person should be able to take it!!’) is still bad, guys (especially since, as with MDZS, those parallels or foils are often there to explore the harm they do to others as a result, not simply how much trauma they can take).
**My thoughts on rumours here. Tl;dr, if Jin Ling (someone who’d want to defend him!) is saying he did (and that he “never let anyone go” – Chapter 24), if sources like Lan Wangji and Lan Sizhui act as if this is the case (Chapter 10 – to defend, you could say personal feelings play a role, but Lan Wangji especially is someone who knows not to, and explicitly doesn’t, make judgements without conclusive evidence. Again, see my thoughts on rumours) – and if Jiang Cheng backs up this behaviour (eg by telling Jin Ling to kill every demonic cultivator he sees and feed them to his dogs in his introduction – Chapter 7), it’s probably not a simple unbased rumour. There’s enough evidence to support its veracity.
***However, do note that Wei Wuxian isn’t an outlier, either – Lan Wangji, Wen Ning and Lan Sizhui (once he learns of his heritage) are all examples of other characters who aren’t overcome or twisted by their pain, instead still aiming to make the world a better place. And this is Jin Ling’s whole arc, too!
****I delve a lot more deeply into this here!
*****The role this moment plays isn’t actually something I caught myself – it came from a post about a reread of MDZS’ earlier chapters. I can’t find it myself, but if anybody has the link, that would be great (so I can cite it)!
—
Also, a shoutout to this incredible meta by @righteousinadversity – it’s what made me want to delve into this aspect two years ago! It’s still one of my favourite metas, and you enjoyed this, you’ll definitely enjoy that, too.
#yes i did gush a bit at the end but it’s *xiantober* it’s the wwx gushing month!#also re ‘antagonist’ and jc – i don’t want to get into discourse but there are two facts#1) an antagonist is someone who opposes or hinders the protagonists (regardless of their morality - eg L in death note is one)#2) jc is someone who does oppose and hinder the protagonists (capturing wwx in present day + being hostile to wangxian + besieging him in-#-his first life… and in his second life)#sure he isn’t one CONSISTENTLY (not throughout a lot of the flashbacks + during the second siege + in guanyin temple)#but that’s still a frequent role he PLAYS#regardless of how you think he should be presented or what you think he’s feeling – that’s the function his actions serve in the novel#anyway fic for day two will come but it’s still being worked on — i was in an analysis mood today so decided to do this first#mdzs meta#my meta#mdzs#wei wuxian#mo dao zu shi#魔道祖师#grandmaster of demonic cultivation#gdc#jin guangyao#jiang cheng#(<- a little scared of this tag but he does feature a lot)#xiantober day 3#this does admittedly feel less focused than the previous part but maybe i’ll rewrite it later

If Fumiko is monstrous then Fujimoto should start presenting her as such
Fumiko is written to remind us that Denji is a child, and I repeat, she is the symbol of a child's sexual trauma in all its horror and "paradoxes".
Touching Denji without his consent, catching an adolescent who hasn't yet discovered himself off guard, is the most obvious way of proving the link between the theme of sexual assault and Fumiko, but it doesn't stop there.
The fact that Denji accepts only proves this point: it shows just how much he's someone who needs boundaries and protection. He passively listens to what he's told without question simply because Fumiko has the upper hand.
She has one, but spends her time pretending she doesn't, in particular by disguising her age like a predator, calling him "senpai" when she's 22, and playing up her protective role as a "bodyguard" when she's only there to stop Denji thinking for himself
As can be seen in the dialogue between Miri and Denji, she positions herself as an interlocutor, standing in Denji's shadow, influencing his decisions and distracting the boy from the substance of Miri's message.
But she's a complete paradox, still trying to make Denji believe she's protecting him, she refers to Chainsaw Man as a "child", which rather than demonstrating a good intention shows that she's well aware of what Denji is and that she's abusing him head-on.
Who protects a child by attacking him?
Once again, I insist, these are two pages from the same chapter. Dare you tell me that Fumiko doesn't present any contradictions?
Above all, she makes it seem as if she only wants what's best for Denji, even when he hasn't responded to her pleas for help. Once again, there's a paradox: the predator blames her victim for not having seen her own vulnerability, whereas she’s only abusing those of her victim.
Fumiko is a metaphor for the very dangerousness of sexual assault, gentle on the surface but insidious, its violence only made clear and felt after the event, rising like a tide.
When Yoshida convinces Denji to give up his normal life, he leaves him in the hands of Fumiko, a public hunter, who symbolises the extent to which, despite the monster in front of them, danger also exists among men, and that the milieu of public hunters is a harmful world for a child.
I think the reason Fujimoto doesn't immediately place Fumiko in a position of condemnation is to instil a feeling of frustration and powerlessness at seeing Denji unprotected, to make it clear that "he's missing something", a parental figure.
But I think that for the writing to be complete, the author has to take a clear stance on the subject, in his own way of course, but explicitly
Seeing Fumiko next to Denji makes me anxious, it's such a common form of violence that it pulls me out of my reading.
Fumiko is a monster, so I pray that Fujimoto will have fun explicitly detailing her dark side and her horror.
If he doesn't, then she'll remain an unfinished and confusing chimera, the result of lazy writing and a fear of commitment.
#csm 136#csm 137#csm 139#csm 142#chainsaw man#csm#csm part 2#csm spoilers#denji#fumiko#fumiko mifune#my thoughts#But I'm a realist I can also see the flaws in an author I love Fujimoto likes the dissident and morally controversial aspect of his work#Even when the violence is correctly presented there will be no narrator to condemn it Fujimoto doesn't risk accentuating Fumiko's horror#but just making it more present more controversial Just to disturb his readers who sometimes have no real use for the script.#Maybe I'm being too hopeful and justifying the shortcomings of Fumiko's writing to reassure myself#It's possible she's the black spot in part 2#In a jump shonen you can't present a 22-year-old girl touching a teenager as a joke.#I'm in favour of creative freedom but I'm also in favour of authors being aware of their audience.

Hi, it's me again. I decided to follow your advice and try to seek out your 'actually serious' analysis, which led me to your komahina bible, the most easy to find compilation of this supposed analysis. Here are my thoughts-
1) Overview
- Most of this 'analysis' isn't analysis but a summary/overview of the game. It's not so much a 'bible' as a children's book summary of the bible, which at that point it would be better to play the actual game itself. It's clear it was made for a presentation on the 'uninitiated' if you will, but if that's the case, you shouldn't be advertising it as the literal bible on the subject.
- When you are not regurgitating points from the game beat by beat, the screen is halfway filled with either manga panels or fanart. My gripes with manga panels are, that even though they do depict the events of the game, the way they can be depicted by the artist can be pretty subjective due to the freedom of the medium in comparison to sprites, and that the role of one character can differ depending on whose pov manga it is (chiaki vs nagito). Fan art therefore should be scrutinized even more since it fully depicts abstracted and even the fandomified version of events, leading to situations where it's either unclear what is actually happening or betrays your more shallow view of the characters (i talk abt this later.)
- When you do use pictures directly from the game it's either a possible screenshot from a memorable moment or dialog from the wiki, limited almost exclusively to the freetime events. This leads me to believe that you haven't actually played the game(there are other factors hinting towards this) or watched a Let's Play of it, but going off of merely information that's already widely known and circulating within the fandom, and easy to search on the wiki.
2) Incorrect/Questionable information
Here I'll compile a lot of information that's either plainly wrong or baffling to having come to that conclusion , leading more credence to the theory that you either haven't actually played the game or your memory of it isnt as good as you think.
-"if Nagito's plan went off of without a hitch, he would have killed anyone that was closes to him at the time" plainly wrong. Komaeda's goal from the start was to make himself the victim, so by dying this way his death could have meaning and help the others. For somebody that keeps talking about Komaeda's "Martyr complex" this is truly a weird take to have.
-"Nagito...got the nurse for sure sick" is there any proof that specifically points to Komaeda for this? I believe the takeaway should've been that Mikan got sick because she was around all of them AND she overworked herself trying to take care of them. Is this just an awkwardly phrased attempt to make more of a connection between Tsumiki and Komaeda? I don't think you needed more than the ones that already existed.
- "he helps Junko brainwash a bunch of students" Kamukura at neither point in the anime or Danganronpa 0 was ever specifically implicated in the brainwashing. He never 'helps' Junko, especially in that way. If you meant, participates in the student council killing game, you should've said that, but even then his agency and influence is limited.
-"they found the Remnants and captured them!"...no, they didn't. The Remnants presented themselves as survivors and the Foundation took them in. They handed themselves over willingly. It was a pretty big piece of the final part of the game...
3) Komaeda and Komahina
- "Nagito's habit of putting people on pedestals" Where. Sure, he certainly parrots the belief that the "Ultimates" as a unit are at the top of the food chain and should be prioritised, but its clear that doesn't exactly carry over to his classmates like teruteru, Kuzuryu and even Souda sometimes. Just because of a few positive comments refering to them as Ultimates and the trial which he literally breaks down in, this is a hard position to support.
-"Nagito manipulates Hajime into playing the game" How. He literally just told him to play it. How is that manipulation. Also, isn't it a bit unfair to put the blame on Koizumi's death to him as well? I think they were multiple factors playing into this, but sure, how else are you gonna convince people that Komaeda is a twisted fucking cyclepath that loves leading people to their deaths.
-The way that you say the Kuzuryu/Pekoyama relationship mirrors Komahina as 'I will give up my agency for you/ I just want you' is also confusing. Unless of course you mirror Peko's struggle with her agency and harmful beliefs the clan enforced on her with Komaeda's own belief system, in which case, idk man, i feel like you are giving a bit too much credit to the supposed severity of Komaeda's views and trying too hard to make Hinata the 'rational' and 'grounding' one in the relationship.
- Again, the amount of times you refer to Komaeda as a freak for doing something 'weird' or even being drawn weirdly doing it , mostly in the manga, makes me belief this isn't just an affectionate tongue in cheek joke as you claim, but an actual way in which your interpretation of Komaeda is colored.
-"it doesn't excuse his nonchalance towards tragedy and murder but explains it" what needs to be excused here exactly? Komaeda doesn't need to immediately bawl his eyes out when someone gets killed or else he's suspicious and...bad? I am confused with what you mean by this. If you mean that Komeada shouldn't be so nonchalant about murder because he's constantly trying to kill someone else, that is plainly incorrect and i explained above why.
-Posturing about Komaeda's 'black and white thinking' while in the next exact slide you show fanart of him smugly explaining he has Borderline. First, i want you to explain to me the black and white thinking in a way that isn't "oh, the friends and classmates i previously liked turned out to be fucking terrorists". I think that's a pretty justifiable situation for your thinking to go from white to black. Also, if that is enough credence to assign Komaeda BPD, you really don't know how BPD works, especially since you assigned it to the one character you constantly talk about being a freak (and also lust...pseudo lust? after).
- The insistence with Hinata not really understanding Komaeda and running away, even if he wants to understands him is pretty suspect, especially when compared to the game. Hinata is confused and overwhelmed yes, but it's not just that he wants to understand Komaeda but that he still feels fondness for him, he still follows his advice and puts his faith in him and the way he mourns him in Chapter 5 is also pretty indicative of this. It's just another part in the pattern in you making Hinata the confused, rational, 'morally pure' man that's 'tempted' by 'corrupted' manic pixie mentally ill demon Komaeda. Something tells me your priest AU isn't so much playing with dolls as much as...what you actually believe these characters dynamic is.
- The whole page where Servant is basically made into a joke about how hot and sexy and freaky he is doesn't help your point either.
-The most damning evidence of course is a drawing in the second to last slide, wherein Komaeda is supposed to be analogous to 'guy who has something wrong with him' (distorted, freak, mentally ill) and Hinata is analogous to the guy that 'is the only one that understands them' (the rational one, the relationship of understanding doesn't go both ways).
- Your slide with sources is pretty vague and unclear. Also the way that you credit "Your superior mind" before the game itself when all you've been doing is repeating and misinterpreting the plot of the game is ...ironic
So yeah, that's all I got. Feel free to 'debunk' my observations as much as you please, I just want to know if there's actual basis behind everything you just said or I should go digging for 'the actual serious analysis' yet again.
i think you forgot that fandom is meant to be fun

Bart leans into Cassie's shoulder, and she clutches at her chest. "Rest in Pieces, Mr. Smith!" they say in unison, and he watches their easy familiarity, the well-practiced way their bodies curve against each other, and wonders if this is what the TV means when it talks about friends. The pod gave him the word, the definition as it's written for books and dictionaries, but there's something about seeing it play out in front of him that feels…different. They know each other. They trust each other. Cassie's name on Bart's lips is as easy for him to say as it is for her, and the twist of their tone as they call for each other belays more information than he can read. “So, Thirteen-” “Huh?” he says, and then realises. “Oh. No, don’t call me that. That’s not my name.” Bart blinks at him. “Well then what is?” “Uh-” “Don’t go claiming stranger danger,” Cassie jokes, “I just kicked someone in the balls for you.”
Or: the creation of Spiderboy; or, what's in a name? Kon's not entirely sure how he got his; or, Bart and Cassie blackmail Lex Luthor into allowing his genetic experiment/son to have a life of his own and/or an internship as a normal boy; or, aka "The Incident".
It's a lot of things to a lot of people, but Kon mostly just thinks of it as the first day he met his friends.

listen all i’m saying is there needs to be a nonzero amount of angsty lesbian fanfiction with themes centered around monsterhood/becoming a monster against your will between scylla and melinoe
if someone doesn’t write about scylla seeing melinoe slowly losing herself to the weight of her burden because of kronos and endeavoring to keep her from becoming a monster the way she herself did after being forced into a monstrous form by circe then like.
what’s the point
#hades 2#melinoe#scylla#someone please write melinoe/scylla thank you#i will accept this as my birthday present (may 25) (my birthday is may 25) (i want to read melinoe/scylla yuri on may 25)#‘Kay be the change you want to see in the world’ i can’t write romance#the angst needs to be balanced with romance#also i’m not into tentacles. huge turn-off. too many writhing parts.#anyway. anything i write will just be the Bad kind of painful instead of the good kind of painful that comes with cathartic make out scenes

Revenant Side Stories
Story II: Graves
[Story 1 - Konchar] [AO3]
Ah yes, the oneshot I promised 4 months ago. I got sidetracked with bloodhunger, and I'm still busy with uni (when am I not...), but I finally found time to write Graves' story! I'll be honest, I kinda procrastinated on this because I wasn't sure I would be able to really capture his voice correctly, but I like how this turned out.
I got a few more characters on the list for side stories, but if you're interested in seeing anyone in particular, you're welcome to suggest them!
“You’re such a piece of shit, Graves!”
Philip smiles as wide as his mouth full of dry MRE cake allows him to, “I know you’re the one that put boot polish inside my shoes two weeks ago, Collins. Payback’s a bitch, ain’t it?”
Collins’ face twists in anger, in a way that is quite satisfying to him, “I was fuckin’ saving that cake for after the op.”
“I know.” Philip swallows, grin finally able to stretch across his face. Collin doesn’t grace him with another reply, instead stomping away while muttering curses under his breath. Serves him right.
He leans back against the armored truck they’ll use for infil, in about half an hour from now. He’s been ready far before that, always the first on the tarmac. He has to, if he wants to be in his superior officers’ good graces, if he wants that promotion.
Being a Corporal is nice and all, but Philip aims higher than that. He thinks – no, knows he wasn’t made to follow orders till the day he dies. No, he’s much better suited to command, to lead, to make the final call.
He just needs to make the higher brass see that as well.
Among the buzzing activity of the final preparations for the upcoming operation, Philip spots Lieutenant Reed inspecting a crate of equipment. The man is build like a shit brick house, all 6’4 inches of pure muscle. That’s not to mention the Lieutenant’s special little revenant status, which makes sure that even if you manage to shoot the giant bastard, he’ll get back up quicker than any human being should. Apparently, healing powers are quite common for soldier revenants, not that it matters when their kind is as rare as it is.
A pang of jealousy shoots through him, at the sheer power the man clearly exudes just by standing there. It goes away quickly enough.
Lieutenant Reed is a great commander, don’t get him wrong, but Philip always thought he was too… caught up by his own moral compass. More concerned with doing what’s just, instead of doing what’s right. Admirable, but dangerous on the field.
A man who puts his and his squad’s life over the mission, is not a man who will go far. A man that puts things like righteousness over the mission…
Philip pities him, really. Reed could’ve been a General by now, if he understood that. But he’s grateful, in a way, that the Lieutenant is the way he is, to teach him this lesson.
The Lieutenant’s eyes meet his, and he motions with his head to move. He ruminated around long enough – time to get to work.
The mission is simple, a milk run, really. When he enlisted, Philip expected to be constantly fighting, to truly feel with each shot how he changes things in the world.
He sure didn’t expect to be loaded up in the back of a truck with five other soldiers, and act as basically a glorified delivery man, transporting gear to an American base in another part of a foreign country.
Those were the fantasies of a younger, stupider Philip. He now knows just how much is required to upkeep a base, both from first-hand experience and from his studies on his time off. After all, being the best doesn’t only come down to his physical abilities, it demands the best mind, the strongest will, the smartest of tactics.
This means he’s got less time to socialize with the soldiers in his unit, but he’s truly not mourning that. They seem like a bunch of idiots anyway. It only motivates him further to get the next promotion, if only to get away from them.
The downside to that, is that Philip barely knows the last names of the people currently in the truck with him. Lieutenant Reed is in a truck ahead of theirs, his rank high enough to grant him the privilege of not being shoved between crates and sweaty recruits.
Philip keeps half of his attention on the low conversation between the soldiers next to him, scanning the empty, dry grasslands surrounding the road.
“Heard the fellas up north have been attacked, last time a convoy went through.” a soldier he thinks might be Johnson murmurs.
Collins answers from the other side of the truck, “yup, I got a friend there. Two from his unit died.”
Maybe-Johnson shakes his head with a huff, “fuckin’ gangs man… The US might as well fund them, with the amount of supplies they drive right to their doorstep…”
“Think we’ll meet them today?” another soldier joins (Gonzalez? Fuck if he knows).
“If we do, I’m going to wipe ‘em out.” Collins grins, and Philip has to suppress the urge to roll his eyes. He couldn’t wipe out his grandma, let alone several trained gang members. “‘Sides” he continues, “we got the LT on our side.”
Gonzalez (???) laughs, “damn right we do! Can’t kill a man twice, can ya?”
Philip internally groans, jaw tightening. They think Reed is some sort of immortal, just because he died once and survived. A fucking bullet to the head would kill him all the same. The only thing the Lieutenant is truly invincible from is infection and diseases - what originally killed him. If any of these bastards ever bothered to pick up a book, they’d know that.
He apparently didn’t manage to school his features well enough, since Collins turns to address him, “what’s with the face, Graves?”
Philip does roll his eyes this time, “just because Reed is a revenant doesn’t mean y’all can just sit back and relax, he’s just one person.”
The road they’re on cuts through a hill, casting long shadows over them.
“Yeah, a person that heals from a stab wound in half an hour!”
“Those are just rumors.” Philip spits, “have any of you ever looked at the actual reports??”
A few soldiers groan as Collins answers, “not all of us are fuckin’ suckups, bro.”
Philip watches the lot of them laugh, a sharp smile slowly spreading on his lips, “not all of us are going to become Sergeants, bro.”
The laughter dies, Collins’ face twists in anger familiarly, “you’ve always been a piece of shit-”
The world becomes bright white for a moment, screams Philip later registers as his own rip out of his chest as the truck swerves and crashes.
His ears ring, limbs refusing to listen to his orders. “Hrgh… shit…” he forces his eyes open, as his hearing returns.
Gunshots flash between the wreckage and the top of the hills, soldiers taking cover behind the upturned truck. It seems like he was the only one blown away this far.
The fuckin’ gang must’ve hit him directly. Just his damn luck.
Philip tries to crawl forward, not particularly keen on staying alone with no cover, but even that small movement shoots intense pain through his body, his vision darkening for a few seconds. He winces, carefully turning to look at his torso and legs.
He swallows down the bile rising to his mouth, blinking down at the deep craters at his right hip. That… can’t be his own body, right? He thinks he sees bone.
Another RPG whistles through the air, missing the truck by only a few feet. His squad turns around, shooting down the gang members attempting to corner them from their flank.
He needs to get to them. They should have enough knowledge of first aid to at least stop the bleeding, or give him a stim shot, fuckin’ anything!
Philip starts screaming, “HELP!!! I’M STILL ALIVE!!!!!” he grits his teeth, desperation starting to crack his voice as he realizes he might actually die here, “COLLINS!!! GONZALEZ!!! HELP!!!!!”
Hope bubbles within him when he sees Collins turn his head to his direction, searching for the source of the shouts in the shadows. Philip raises his arm as far as he can, waving it to catch Collins’ attention.
He thinks it might be the first time he ever felt actual happiness to see Collins’ stupid green eyes lock onto his.
“I CAN’T MOVE, YOU GOTTA FUCKIN’ HELP ME!” he yells, pointing to his right leg.
Collins’ eyes trail down, to the puddle of blood coloring the grass under Philip red. He lifts a hand to his comms, mouth moving too fast for him to read.
He must’ve reported his condition to Reed. Collins is not completely useless, Philip muses.
Collins nods in response to whatever Reed told him, and Philip’s heart drops when he turns away from him, and points to the forest.
They… they’re not gonna run, are they? They’re not gonna leave him here, bathing in his own damn blood, right?!
Yet, that’s exactly what they do. The five soldiers, his own teammates, wait for an opening in the relentless shooting from the hostiles, and run. Without him.
Philip shouts again, anger now booming through his throat, “COLLINS! YOU FUCKING COWARD, COME BACK!!! DON’T LEAVE ME HERE, I’LL DIE!!!!! WE’RE ON THE SAME SIDE, YOU PIECE OF SHIT, HELP- HELP ME!!!”
Collins doesn’t even look back once, and Philip watches the figures of his squad disappear between the trees. He screams in frustration, hands shaking in fury.
His mind returns to the moment Collins nodded. Lieutenant Reed… he must’ve told them to disengage. Ordered them to leave him behind to bleed out.
A hysterical laugh shakes his shoulders. So much for ‘no man left behind’, eh, Lieutenant? Fucking hypocrite. Philip hopes that wherever revenants go after they die, Reed will suffer for the rest of his existence.
His laugh devolves into choked sobs when the reality of his situation sinks in. He’s gonna die. He’s going to die because his own team abandoned him.
Philip always knew they were useless, but he expected them to at least not fuckin’ betray him, y’know?
As his vision fades for the last time, Philip smiles. Not because he accepts his fate, no.
But it’s nice to know he was right, the whole damn time.
“Philip Graves”
“Graves”
“Graves”
Philip’s eyes snap open, and he inhales sharply. It takes him a few moments to comprehend he’s not in that damn valley he was abandoned in. He’s… not anywhere on Earth… is he?
His own reflection stares at him, multiplied over countless times, like a hall of mirrors in a carnival. He raises a hand to his right side, pressing tentatively at first, and digging into the muscles when he realizes his wounds have been healed.
…What is this place?
“This is my Realm”
“Realm”
“Realm”
Several voices echo around him, and Philip looks around only to see his own wide blue eyes.
“W-where are you?!” he snarls, fear beating at his heart.
“Up”
“Up”
“Up”
He cranes his head up, mouth opening in shock at the creature above him.
A writhing mass of limbs coils onto itself, arms and legs and faces, creating the vague shape of a person. Its face is blank, nothing but a maw.
“You’re… a Reaper…” Philip mutters dumbly.
“The Reaper of Many”
“Many”
“Many”
The Reaper leans closer, Philip’s body shaking at the sheer scale of it, “so I did d-die.”
He doesn’t know how, but he gets the feeling the Reaper grins at the words.
“YES” “YES” “YES” a terrifying chorus of voices confirms. The twitching limbs seem to move quicker in excitement, “TELL ME, PHILIP GRAVES, WHAT DO YOU WANT?”
“WHAT DO YOU WANT?”
“WHAT DO YOU WANT?”
Philip covers his ears at the screeching Reaper, eyes squeezed shut in agony. In the back of his mind, he remembers the transcript from interviews of revenants, of this very question they all had to respond to.
Of the identical answer they all give.
“I just- I JUST WANT TO LIVE!!!”
Philip’s quick breaths slow down, when the Reaper doesn’t scream again.
“I just want to live…” he repeats, opening his eyes and lowering his arms. After a few moments of nothing, he finds the courage to look up.
The Reaper’s hand is hovering above him, finger uncurled and pointing to him.
“Give me your soul, Philip Graves, and I’ll let you live”
“live”
“LIVE”
Philip nods shakily, “It’s yours, Reaper.”
Giggling bounces between the mirrors surrounding him, gleeful and horrendous. The finger moves closer, Philip leaning back on instinct alone. It feels like his blood is boiling over, brain liquifying into mush, yet he physically can’t open his mouth to scream.
“From this day on, until the day you die, Philip Graves, you are mine.”
“Mine”
“MINE”
The Reaper touches his forehead, his vision flashing with bright colors he doesn’t have a name to.
“My revenant, Revenant of Many”
“Many”
“MANY”
“MANY”
“MA-”
Someone is shaking his arm. Philip pushes away, scrambling back. He opens his eyes.
Something decidedly not human greets him.
“The fuck-” Philip curses.
“The fuck-” the creature answers. It doesn’t have a mouth, or any defining features. Barely a dark shape, like someone cut out the silhouette of a person out of the fabric of reality.
Philip feels an odd presence in his mind, like dozens of eyes looking up at him, awaiting command.
The valley is quiet. He looks up at the hills, finding more shapes lingering, all looking at him. Philip looks back at the one that touched him.
“What are you?”
The shape answers by echoing his voice, “-you?”
Philip breathes out a small laugh, hand carding into his hair in amazement.
His admiration of his new powers is cut short by the sound of an engine. Philip jumps to his feet, body still feeling a phantom pain of sorts, and orders his shapes, “disappear.”
In a blink, the shapes melt away into the shadows. He runs to the woods, taking cover behind a thick tree trunk when the vehicle rolls around the bend into the valley.
Philip’s eyes narrow when he sees that the vehicle is none other than the US military’s. He averts his eyes, scrutinizing the setting sun. It has been at least several hours since Collins and his group of dickheads left him to die.
The vehicle stops near the wreckage, the fire burning the truck long extinguished. Lieutenant Reed out of all people climbs out, instantly ordering his men to clear the area of hostiles. Burning rage ignites within Philip at the sight.
Without his will, the shadows around him materialize, blank faces all staring at him.
He gets an idea. It’s stupid, and frankly will probably put him in a lot more trouble than it’s worth, but honestly Philip literally died a few hours ago and so did his fucks to give.
“Seize them.” he tells his shapes, his Shadows.
The dozen or so Shadows instantly start running, tackling the squad of soldiers. Philip barely contains a laugh at their terrified screams. One of them manages a shot on a Shadow, but the creature simply ignores the gaping hole in his thigh, and wrestles the man down.
Lieutenant Reed needs two Shadows to force him to kneel, but soon enough they all stay down, lined up on the dirt road.
“If this is how it feels to be a revenant, I would be a cocky bastard too”, Philip thinks to himself while looking at Reed.
“Lieutenant, what the fuck are these- these things?!” one soldier asks frantically.
Reed growls, fruitlessly attempting to shake off the Shadow restraining him, “revenant powers. But I’ve never seen something like this-”
Philip chooses this moment to reveal himself, “impressive, aren’t they? I’d say they’re a fair trade to dying, wouldn’t you, Lieutenant?”
Lieutenant Reed’s face slackens in shock, “...Corporal Graves?”
He smiles unkindly, “the one and only. Tell me…” he crouches in front of Reed, “when you ordered Collins and his group of bumbling idiots to abandon me and run away, did you even feel a speck of remorse? If not for me, at least for my poor mother, that would’ve had to live with the fact the men that were supposed to be on his side left him to die?”
The Lieutenant at least seemed to pretend to be horrified, “I- it was the Commander, not me, Graves. I didn’t make the call to leave you behind, kid-”
Philip cuts him off with a few slow claps, “wow, Lieutenant. I’ve already gathered you’re a fuckin’ hypocrite, but a liar as well? You should’ve been an actor instead of a soldier, sir. You’ve got a natural talent right there.”
His digging remarks only seem to make Reed more guilty, “...I may have not made that order, but I take responsibility over my soldiers. You didn’t deserve to die, Graves. I’m sorry.”
Philip falters at the genuinely heartfelt apology. He didn’t expect Reed to actually be sorry about it. It only twists something in his gut further.
Philip’s voice loses the mocking tone it had before, “you have nothing to apologize for, sir. Without you, I would’ve never received such power.” he spreads his arms, motioning to his Shadows.
Reed’s brows curve upwards, regret painting his features, “really, I should thank you, Lieutenant.”
Philip grins as wide as his mouth allows him, not a lick of joy within it, “thank you, for letting me die alone.”
He knew he’ll get in trouble once he arrives back to base, but he didn’t expect Major Shepherd to be the one disciplining him.
Philip knows to dread the punishment the moment the Major opens the door, his face severe as ever as he dismissed the other officers in the room.
He rises to his feet, saluting the Major, before the man waves him off.
Shepherd takes the sit in front of him, staring him down for a few tense moments before speaking, “Corporal Philip Graves. Do you know how much shit you’ve put yourself into, with that little ‘prank’ you did to Lieutenant Reed and his squad?”
Philip doesn’t shy away from the Major’s burning gaze, “yes sir.”
Shepherd doesn’t look impressed, “the Lieutenant told me about your powers. Which Reaper got you?”
“Reaper of Many, sir.”
“Reaper of Many… can’t say I’ve met a revenant from it.” the Major drawls, “most of your kind belongs to the Reaper of Flesh.”
The one in charge of healing… Reed’s Reaper.
“Your powers are exceptionally strong, Graves.” Shepherd smiles, oddly enough.
Philip blinks, taken off guard by the praise, “... thank you, sir?”
The Major leans back, his demeanor less serious, “no need for formalities right now, Graves. I’d like to speak to you as an equal at the moment.”
…What is the Major’s angle here? He doesn’t seem angry at him anymore.
“About what?”
Shepherd smirks, something about it raising the hairs on Philip’s arms, “What do you see yourself doing, four, five years down the line?”
“...What?”
“Your aspirations, Graves. Aiming for Lieutenant? Captain?”
Philip frowns in confusion, “Commander, sir.”
“Commander, huh?” Shepherd hums, “I have a… proposition for you, Graves.”
Proposition? “I’m listening.”
“What do you think about PMCs?”
The rapid change in topic leaves Philip unsteady in his answers, “they’re… I think they’re necessary, but I’d rather stay with the US military. I want to fight for my country.”
Shepherd looks… disappointed? “Listen, son. I think you’re a great soldier, and you have been given great power to control. People like you… the military will just hold you back.”
Philip inhales deeply. Is Shepherd saying what he thinks he’s saying?
The Major continues, “I think you’ll do much better outside the red tape, Philip.” he pulls out a contract, a frankly absurdly high stack of papers, “I’d like you to work for me. Not as my subordinate, but as a collaborator.”
Philip stares at the papers, “you… you want me to leave the army?”
“Exactly. I want you to become your own PMC. I believe, with your amount of strength, other soldiers will just get in your way.” Shepherd adds, almost like an afterthought, “and you won’t need to worry about any sort of punishment about your actions today, your death will be completely redacted, and the Lieutenant ordered to keep his mouth shut.”
He looks back at the Major’s eyes, deep gratitude welling inside him. Shepherd offers his hand to him, right above the contract that will finally grant him what he worked years for, as easily as writing his own name.
Graves takes the offering, and shakes the Major’s hand.
“My Shadows will be at your service, Shepherd.”
Shepherd smiles, satisfied, “already prepared for your first mission, Commander Graves?”
Commander Graves. He thought it would take years until he was granted the name.
Graves flashes a grin, “was reborn ready, Major.”

a friendly edit: 1. make sure you have read the whole post before coming to conclusions or spreading this, 2. have read my tag where i say and i quote "im not any kind of authority i'm just some guy and an unintelligent one at that. do NOT listen to me in a serious way". i'm not going to turn off reblogs over my own fear of being misunderstood, but i did not want this post- which is just my pretty meaningless commentary for personal amusement- to gain any traction nor attention. i am a very unimportant bystander in this situation. thanks! ok on to the original post
i had to go to bed during the live event happening but i'm not surprised to see the twitter remains compromised currently. i did see that some chad from our side wrangled the FA url out of the grasp of opps tho
im not sure if this is true/how much involvement they had but it looks like nullbulgegroup did the taking-back (which is not completed yet, site and twitter are still compromised </3) or at least a lot of it
i am seeing a LOT of these from the hacked FA >:3
heheheh schadenfreude
had the tabs open from when i was watching it last night, i love to see a pretty quick fighting back and i gotta admit it's entertaining to watch a hack happen in real time, that's never happened to me before in my long time on the internet
and this is where we're at... hoping for the best now!
don't go to FA, though your information is secure, apparently.
VERY GOOD SUMMARY HERE
youtube
#furaffinity#furaffinity hack#very based name of the group btw ;3 who ive heard of previously#also im not sure if the guy holding the url is part of em or just a random but he is from england. rare english win#edit yeah he's just a random#i feel like i'm too old to be saying 'based' or 'chad' or other modern language like that... so i won't say it outside of this..#just doesn't sound right if i say it lol#im not any kind of authority i'm just some guy and an unintelligent one at that. do NOT listen to me in a serious way#ive already seen a lot of fear that FA the site is gone forever... nah mate. just having a bit of trouble at the present moment#three rules for this post of mine: 1. be nice! 2. don't be mean 3. i have embroidered badge comms open#you can find them under THIS tag: ->#embroidered badge comms#click that to see the post about them. :3#comms#furry badge

Do you think Uhtred was as in love with Alfred as Alfred was with him?
HELLO!! okay, i think that they loved (and despised) each other in equal measure, though the actual difference that should be considered with them is more about who showed it more between the two of them than whether or not they had the same amount of love for each other, and for that it's also important to consider that how much someone shows the love doesn't automatically imply that one loved the former more than the latter.
so if we consider the question as a "who was more willing to show that love" then i would argue that it was actually uhtred who did that more, but that's completely because he was more open to it compared to alfred who had wayyyy more to lose and wayyyy more issues with loving a man than uhtred ever did (for example, uhtred's openness with aethelstan's homosexuality in seven kings must die).
NOW, my brain is pretty dead so i don't know how to explain it any better, but i think i talked more about all of this in detail on this previous post!! xx
#thank you for asking tho!!#i genuinely don't know how to answer#but pretty much i think that they loved each other just as much#also i don't wanna say that uhtred would have had no issues with it#since the honour thing was something very much present in a viking society#but compared to alfred he had less problems and uhtred was also way more reckless than alfred was#especially when he was younger#and i could also argue that supporting someone (uhtred supporting aethelstan) and accepting it for yourself can also be 2 different things#so uhtred could have had a different reaction for himself#but still i think alfred had more issues in general for sure and more to lose as well#ANYWAY YEAH THOSE ARE PRETTY MUCH MY THOUGHTS ON THE MATTER AGAHAHAHAHA#the last kingdom#alfred x uhtred#alhtred#uhtred x alfred#tlk alfred#uhtred#asks#also on the post i shared the link of i remember dividing it in two so the first part is about alfred and the second is about uhtred#there's like a space in between so you can go directly to uhtred's part!!
