Woukd researcher siffrin still enjoy plays despite being blind? Or do they have something else that they love similar to that?

They still like plays! The researcher is very fond of dramatic monologues and how much emotion good actors can put into their dialogue!! But he isn't as big of a fan, he misses a lot from not seeing the prompts/gestures, and some sounds confuse them.

They adore music though, instrumental or singing. It's something that startled them at first since Vauguarde is very loud and his house is pretty quiet/ the most music they listened to was their own humming and unconscious rhythmic tappings (from childhood songs he doesn't remember) when he got excited, but he grew very fond of it. Their auditory memory is the strongest (still not that good tho...) so they can learn songs and musical terms relatively easily.

The researcher's favorite type of play would be musicals.

I just don't like that for my own art??? Idk if that makes sense. Like, I've read the comics, I know how the character is, and I can't change that, yk? Like my mind already perceives the character like something, and trying to change that something feels kind of odd.

My review of The New Gods (2024) #1.

Spoiler free: I know we’re one issue in but I cannot recommend The New Gods enough, it’s already become my favourite comic currently running and I loved literally everything about the first issue, 10/10. It’s so epic and grounded at the same time and characterisation of everyone involved is spot on. It’s also I think a really good jumping on point if you’re not a New Gods fan, Ram V has said that you don’t need any prior knowledge before reading this comic and that really rings true for the first issue. And THE ART!!! Omg Evan Cagle and Jorge Fornés really cooked with the pencils and inks and the colour by Francesco Segala are AMAZING.

Warning I’ve only read it once so far so my thoughts are little more than AAAAH!!!

Metron is such a little shit stirrer as always. And I love this vague ass prophecy. Everything about the beginning showing the grand scale of the New Gods and then contrasting it with the Frees on earth is chefs kiss. It’s also such a good way to kick start the run.

LIGHTRAY!!! This art is stunning in literally every panel but omg he’s so cute. And he’s such a ray of sunshine (literally). All he wants to do is help. Also the choice to make him literally glowing is fantastic.

This whole section with Orion is probably my favourite part art wise (which is really saying something cause again the comic is gorgeous). But Cagles art is so dynamic and full of life I just love it. Also Orion’s design is amazing.

OLIVIA!!!! Cutest baby ever!!!!!!! I will protect her with my life!

Like I said before the way Ram V and Evan Cagle contrast the vast expanse of the universe and the mythic levels of the new gods with the domestic life of the Frees is amazing and so impactful. And Orion being in the background and giving them their time was adorable. (Also this Scott design!!!! AHHHH)

I absolutely adore the way Ram writes them as actual brothers. Their voices and the way they speak with each other has so much more calm and closeness than most of their other appearances ever do. And the way Scott really couldn’t care less about the prophecy until Orion tells him what he has to do, it’s such a perfect characterisation of him!

AHHHH! Again, cannot stress enough what an amazing characterisation of Scott this is. He’s finally found himself at a point where he doesn’t want to escape and he’s forced to leave anyway. I have to also give props for the large print introductions for Scott and Orion, both of which are visually stunning and represent them perfectly. Also the “and you” AHHHHHHH!!!

I know I’m repeating myself but it cannot be stressed enough how lovingly, amazingly, and accurately Ram V is writing these characters. Their voices are PERFECT. Orion not wanting to go through with killing a child so he makes Scott stop him and Scott not wanting to go but not being able to stop himself. “The one thing you can never escape, Mister Miracle, is who you are.” Just kill me now.

MAX??????? What the hell are you doing here???? No but not only am I always happy to see my favourite piece of shit but also I love this. When Max was first introduced he was chasing power and ignoring all empathy because he was being manipulated by a computer created by Metron to gain the knowledge of earth. So I think having him (at least I’m 90% sure it’s him) act out the wills of the gods (whoever it is that’s telling him about the child) is absolutely perfect.

And I could not be more excited. Like I said this is already my favourite comic book running and one of my favourites of all time and we’re one (1) issue in. I’ve already got both the main cover and the Cagle acetate cover ordered through February (wanted to get more but couldn’t financially justify it). The fact that I have to wait another 4 weeks for the next one is criminal. But I urge everyone to go read this!

Real quick Wardance thoughts [part 2]

**SPOILERS** for everything happening after the final match. Basically some story stuff and a bunch of goodbyes, but it’s mostly just me loving every second the Yaoqing trio is on screen.

Seeing a younger Jing Yuan is precious, but it was made even better hearing Alejandro’s natural voice during this short scene.

I know Igor was mentioned at the very start of this event and was sort of a constant, small side story amongst everything else, but his history and reason for entering the Wardance really was unfortunate from what I remember (which isn’t much.) Shame he’s no longer around. I would’ve definitely tried pulling for him if he ever had the chance to be playable.

While Jarilo-VI is no longer a small, unknown ball of ice floating in space, I was not expecting it to have more visitors so soon. I wonder how the Belobogians reacted to seeing their first foxian. & is it safe to assume that our pilot, who refuses to fly anymore, took the Astral Express here? Because that’s what I’m going to believe. Also, Seele spotted! Huzzah!! (no Serval at all though. I cry. or Clara now that I think about it.)

More allies, let’s goooo! Dang, imagine how awesome it would be to see Belobog experience other seasons aside from a perpetual winter. Or to have the residents able to travel outside the city’s walls, free from any danger. I adore everyone from Belobog so much and I hope they get the chance to live such fulfilling lives. They deserve it!

I have not checked the museum for myself yet, but if this photo is actually displayed there now, then that is so cute. And I know I can’t be alone in thinking this, but because of the striking red hair, Igor must be some sort of ancestor to Luka, yeah? It might be a stretch but they even got similar big grins too.

Alright, enough of my favorite planet and onto my favorite trio. Jiaoqiu sweetie, I treasure those few days so much! I just wish you were spared from all the trauma.

How much you wanna bet our Jiaoqiu isn’t going to listen to any doctor’s order because he’s a healer and knows his body better than anyone else? Feixiao & Moze are gonna make certain he heals up properly. But maaann, I wish they showed us Feixiao in the crowd during the final match, if only for a split second.

A perfect trio. One who can’t compete because of rules, another who wouldn’t fight because that’s not his job and the other who shouldn’t, lest he end someone’s life by accident. Pretty fair reasons.

Moze is an absolute mood. I’m not a big fan of chatting either. Quite ironic, given how much I can ramble on about this game and its characters, isn’t it?

Her whole “lacking in worries, regrets and rivals” outlook on life is wonder and I love it but NOW our Lacking General has but ONE REGRET! Aaaah.. honestly, I do too. I regret not pulling Jiaoqiu, but IN MY DEFENSE.. Feixiao was right after him and I needed to save big for her. I also didn’t really have a team suitable for our healer to excel in.. but next time for sure! I’ll bring him home!

Son of a bitch they’re so precious and sweet I wanna scream. It’s a blessing in disguise that this entire goodbye scene wasn’t voiced because if I had to hear all the emotion in their voices for this conversation I would’ve been an even bigger, sobbing mess.

I absolutely took my time taking photos of them. I love ‘em with all my heart and can’t wait to see them more in future arcs.. as long as nothing else bad happens. I am kinda bummed Huaiyan turned out to be nothing but a unique looking npc. He might not have been a character I might’ve pulled for if he was playable, but he would’ve definitely had some cool combat animations I’m sure.

I know I’ve said it somewhere before, whether in a post of my own or in comments, but Fu Xuan is probably my least favorite character. I just.. don’t vibe with her at all. I dunno. With that said, I didn’t mind that she was practically absent from these entire last two patches. So yes, I called her sassy, lost and short.

Astral Express parents showing up fashionably late to the party. Ya think a black hole or orbital laser could’ve destroyed Hoolay’s blood moon? We shall never know. I do wonder how their own task with those fossils and Ruan Mei turned out though. That’s something I’m looking forward to hearing more about, especially since Yaoguang mentioned at the end of the 2.5 story that our mad scientist has just boarded the Luofu too.

Huzzah, the end~ Much less serious this time around but at least we’re finally done. I wasn’t a huge fan of the Xianzhou during our initial trip here during the story, but these last two updates were some of my favorites for sure. (and I promise it’s not only because of my Yaoqing trio bias)

Husk rescuing Angel from Valentino or pretty much any danger in general is still my favorite —incredibly common but still favorite— huskerdust trope. Especially, him (whether in comics or in fanfics) carrying Angel in his arms and flying to safety —Aaaah! 🥺 That’s a whole fluffy dessert for me!

I try to find and read every fanfic and comic I see (AU or canon-divergent), especially the ones where Husk wins Angel’s contract from Valentino.

I know Angel Dust shouldn’t be subjected to being a damsel in distress, because there is more to his character. But, like… come on. While the sweet thing doesn’t really need protection, he needs to feel and know somebody will do it anyway.

Ofc, this is just my craving in fanworks.

As for canon and what I actually want to see happen in the show, to get Angel free from his contract:

1.) Angel shoots/stabs/etc. Val from the fucking front (with some slight hesitance because he technically ruined his clean-streak for doing it).

Oooor, what I like better, bc it involves Huskerdust:

2.) Husk invites both Angel and Valentino somewhere private, to make a bet through poker.

Husk: “One round of poker. You lose, Angel’s soul no longer belongs to you. You win, you get to keep his contract.”

Angel panics and tries to knock some sense into Husk, even though Valentino is disinterested in the whole thing and was going to say no anyway, but plot twist ——>

Angel: “Do I have to slap the fucking White Knight Syndrome outta ya!? I told ya, ya crazy motherfucker! I can handle myself!”

Husk: *smiles* “I know.” *hands Angel his the deck of cards* “Which is why I’m letting you, handle this. Go win your soul back, Legs.”

Angel: *shocked* “B-But that’s even worse! I only beat you, like… once in this game!”

Husk: “And you only need to beat Valentino once too. I know you can do it. But, if you think you can’t, well….” *smirks* “That’s why I’m here.”

Angel: “What do you mean…?”

Husk: “Since you suck at valuing yourself so much, I thought of giving you a better motivation to work with.”

Angel: “Better motivation…?”

Husk: *turns to Valentino* “There’s more; if you win, you not only get to keep Angel, but you get to have my soul too.”

Valentino: “HA! And why would I want the soul of a old rundown alley cat?”

Husk: “My soul is owned by Alastor. Imagine what Vox would think, about the idea of Alastor losing one of his souls to you.”

Angel: “Does Smiles know about this deal yer makin’ right now!?”

Husk: “Yes, he does. And he agreed to it.”

Valentino: *still disinterested* “Not convinced, gatito. You’re still not rubbing me the right way~”

Husk: “I’m not done. I’m not like any other soul, he owns.”

Husk: “I have some information on why he disappeared for seven years. Not the complete context, but it’s still a big secret he definitely wouldn’t want any other overlords to find out about.”

Valentino: “Oh? Well, now that’s interesting. Voxxy would be pleased to hear anything about the radio demon.”

Angel: “Okay, does Smiles know about THAT!?”

Husk: “Hm? Nope. I’m completely fucked if he finds out I told the Vees what I know. He’ll definitely tear my soul apart and broadcast my screams longer than anyone else’s….”

Valentino: “I take it you want protection?”

Husk: “No. Not necessary. If my soul gets handed off to you, and I give you the needed information, you’re not obliged to protect me.”

Valentino: “Now you’re talking my language, gatito~ Game on. Come Angel! Prepare to lose your little boyfriend over here.”

Angel: *ignores Val and grabs Husk by the shoulders* “Husk! We’re leaving now! I don’t want anything horrible to happen to you!”

Husk: “And nothing will happen to me. I know you can do this. Or…. Am I being too full of myself to think you’d give your all for me?”

Angel: “Wh-What…?”

Husk: “I get it. We may be getting used to each other, but I’m not all that important enough to you!”

Angel: “Bullshit!” *grabs him by the suspenders* “You go through so much for my sake! What makes you think I won’t do the same!? I’d go through this hell twice, just to repay all the times you had to deal with me!”

Husk: *smiles softly and places a hand on his cheek* “Then go win this game, Legs.”

(Basically, instead of rescuing Angel himself, Husk tricks Angel into finally getting out of his contract, by putting his own life on the line).

AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT: Sineala

One of the things I love most about Sineala's writing - other than the general brilliance of it - is how much work she puts into tying her fics into canon. I feel like most of what I know about Marvel Comics I learned by reading the helpful notes she adds to her works, explaining which volumes and arcs each canon element is from. Aside from that, Sineala is one of the best writers in the fandom (in my opinion, but honestly, it's just a fact), and I love everything she's ever written. I've recommended a bunch of her stuff this year already, but honestly, you should just read her entire AO3 catalogue.

Every Now and Then I Fall Apart

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 6,000 Tags: Truth Spells, Chronic Pain, Secrets

Summary: When Tony gets hit by a truth spell, the consequences aren't what anyone expected. They're sure not what Tony expected. He wishes he could stop telling his teammates about all the medical problems he tries to hide. As long as he doesn't open his mouth and reveal his secret feelings for Steve, or all his secret inadequacies as a human being, though, everything's going to be fine. And Tony's good at keeping secrets... or so he thinks. But maybe Steve knows him better than he knows himself. And just because Tony believes something, that doesn't make it the truth.

Reasons why I love it: I'm always down for a truth serum fic, and this one is absolutely lovely. Tony being a fan of Total Eclipse of the Heart makes me unreasonably happy, and I love how angsty his accidental confessions are. And of course, the Stony in this is wonderful. I love this fic so much, please go and read it!

Down to Zero

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 18,336 Tags: Temporary Amnesia, Extremis, Hurt/Comfort

Summary: After a battle against the Controller goes awry, Steve is bewildered and guilt-ridden when Tony begins to treat him exactly the same as he treats everyone else.

Reasons why I love it: Holy fuck, this fic is good. I love how guilty Steve feels about taking Tony for granted, and how he immediately knows that something is wrong with him, even when nobody else does. The resolution, once Tony gets his memories back, is fantastic and always puts a smile on my face. I adore this fic, and if you haven't read it yet, you absolutely have to!

Trust Fall

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: E Words: 39,107 Tags: Hurt/Comfort, Love Confessions, Coming in Pants

Summary: Tony needs someone who cares about him, bandages, a jacket, ibuprofen, dinner, a lasting romantic relationship, a nice time in bed, and assistance committing federal crimes. He gets them. In that order.

Reasons why I love it: Aaaah, give me all the feels!!! The hurt/comfort is incredible. Steve is so caring, and I want to wrap Tony up in blankets. And oh my god, the smut! It's everything I never knew I needed. This fic was an instant favorite for me, and I've probably read it twenty times since it came out. So yeah, if you haven't read it yet, please go and do that now, you won't regret it!

The Fall and the Rise

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: T Words: 5,148 Tags: Fix-it, De-Serumed Steve, End of the World

Summary: After the Great Society incursion, the Illuminati refuse to destroy another world. When the next incursion looms, they go to await their deaths in peace. Tony ends up on the doorstep of the last man who ever wanted to see him. At least he's going to die at Steve's side.

Reasons why I love it: This one HURTS, but in a really hopeful way, if that makes sense? The angst is superb, and I love how the bitterness can't quite overshadow the affection they still have for each other. This fic stuck with me for a long time after I read it, so I hope you go and experience it for yourself.

And in Your Head It's Worse

Pairing: Steve/Tony Rating: E Words: 30,204 Tags: BDSM, Scene Gone Wrong, Aftercare

Summary: Tonight is Steve and Tony's anniversary. And since they have the night off, it's the perfect time for Steve to tie Tony to the bed and drive him out of his mind, until Tony can barely remember his own name. It is definitely not the perfect time for Ghost to attack Stark Tower.

Reasons why I love it: This fic explores subspace and especially subdrop in a really compelling way. I love how Sine created the perfect awful situation for Steve and Tony to be in, only to fix it with the fluffiest fluff to ever fluff. It's lovely, and cements its status as one of my all-time favorite comfort fics. I love it so much, and I bet you will too!

AAAAH I loved everything in this!!! 💕 How soft they are with each other, Phoenix can't keep his hand to himself (honestly, Miles' hair looks so soft here, I understand 🤭), the pacing and the dialogues (especially Miles, I admit there are words I discovered here since English is not my main language). And the colors are just beautiful and magical, I really love the atmosphere it gives 💖

ALSO, I noticed immediately little Trucy!! I just love little easter eggs like this in arts! And I love the WAA group hug, how precious they are!

I obsessed over the dialogue a lot to be honest, because I am not a native speaker either, but I do really love the English language and the way I can play with it (I tried to translate it into Italian and it just... felt wrong... also it's impossible to translate puns, like the kiss/kill one, and I would need to change too many things in general). I am also glad you could discover a couple new words!! I love when that happens. And I am so very happy you liked the colors/atmosphere because it was a big experiment I was unsure about. I just went: 'what can I substitute white & black with?' and just... chose the lightest and darkest colors of the color wheel (light yellow + purple -> and then put some midtones in between via lavenders/pinks) hahaha Also thank you for noticing!!! I looooove adding easter eggs, and I do it as often as I can. There is one that isn't *exactly* in the comic.... turns out, painting with splotches of color makes it so you can hide things in plain sight haha! And there's also one in a page that isn't really an easter egg because I pointed to it pretty heavily, but you still need to zoom in to see it properly. If you notice it it adds extra perspective behind what one of the two goofs is thinking. No one yet has told me anything about it, so it makes me wonder if I should have pointed to it better, but I am certain some must have noticed, especially the Trucy-obsessed ones ((˵ •̀ ᴗ - ˵ ) ✧) Also side note I read this message like hours ago and I kinda just put my head in my arms and grinned like a fool - like a very very wide grin. OUGH! I love how much they hate each other! As horrible as it is, Israfil and Valefor have such a fascinating dynamic that I am enjoying exploring so much! I need to know so much more about them both, see so many things about them! That was a fantastic story, thank you! And yes, I too now crack-ship it. Sorry not sorry!

Have some spicy lore, because I'm not sure if I get this told in the upcoming stories. Some bits of the past:

Valefor was raised in a place far, far away from his kind. The Charr that was raised there, was only meant to serve. And guess what? This training ground belongs to Israfil.

Yes he is a old fucker. Ancient even.

Israfil and Valefor were once friends. Or at least Valefor trusted him and he even worked for him voluntarily for a while. It was shortly after Valefor got "rescued" out of the arena. But this too belonged to Israfil,...

But let me tell: Israfil was never his friend or someone you can trust. He only works for his own goals / survival. And if he has to play nice, he will do so.

One day Valefor slowly came behind Israfils true motives. And in an attempt to free himself, he tried to kill Israfil - he slit his throat. Thinking he is dead, Valefor fled - returning to his Vagabond life. Only to get caught again by the man he thought is dead. And he was furious, but... he got revenge in other ways. This comic gives a small hint >> Memories << This canonly takes place somewhere after the next Story. (That maybe comes this weekend)

Of reasons I don't want to spoil yet, he is very obsessed with Valefor. That's the reason he won't kill him and is somehow... nice between his cruelty. At least he doesn't treat his other subordinates, with such leniency in disobedience.

Oh and Valefor already mentioned it in a old post: "He is not a Charr. He’s just pretending to be one. Maybe he was,… but that must be years ago. I saw his true face. He is nothing more than a magic-hungry grotesque monster." But that's not entirely true. He once was a simple Charr! With a family, a warband and a past. But he was at the wrong time at the wrong place. Nothing is left from this charr. He is merely a vessel now.

And last but not least, to give a little insight into Israfils mind: All his plans resolve around to survive and gain power - to spread and take. He is a parasite.

Just feeling like unpacking and sorting out some thoughts on this wonderfully rainy morning (begone, roadside dust!!)

Now, I've always been the type to post new art the moment it's done. Posting stuff only on Patreon has still proven easier than I expected. Perhaps since i am still posting stuff -somewhere- it doesn't feel as weird, even though I do miss the interaction from posting on socials. But that'll be back once I have a buffer big enough to keep Patreon relevant. It's also getting easier on letting posting on social wait as time goes by, lol. Actually thought that what if I make the publish gap with the comic even bigger, like several months between Patreon/other sites. But aaaah, I really do want to get it out. It might create more of a gap with time anyway. And the best way to get new people interested in my Patreon is to have interesting stuff out there in the wild. And I'll be honest, it feels validating af to see even a few people willing to spend money to access my Patreon.

It's still conflicting sometimes, because I would really want to keep my stuff available to everyone without paywalls. Art in general is meant to be shared and should be accessible to everyone, this is something I feel on a larger scale. Things like commissioned, unique pieces are luxurious though. They are after all often personal as well. Artists don't live on grants and stipends, hell, even those are usually available for artists who have already made a name for themselves on a larger scale/are well connected. Majority I know struggle with part time jobs, unemployment, studying or are disabled, barely scraping by what they can get in terms of welfare etc. I'm no different. I'm on welfare due to health reasons + in debt, so basically I don't have any "extra" money at the end of each month left for nice things™. And if I do, it usually goes to paying a larger portion of debt away. Sometimes I spend and always regret it later, lol. But if you -never- get to treat yourself even a little, life starts to feel quite depressing. I know so many people are in the same kind of position, where it's just not possible to pay for more than 1-2 subscription services monthly, or none. So having my art behind a Patreon paywall of any kind feels bad, knowing I would likely not be able to afford it myself, lol. Will it ever be easy to combine the thought of art + money without having dreadful crapitalism thoughts creep in? Probably not.

I still want to do my best to pick up some commissions as well, I need to create some sort of hidden stash of money now that I have the cat. Because when (inevitably at some point) a trip to the vet happens, that's going to be at least a hundo no matter what. And when the last trip to the vet arrives, that's gonna be closer to 300-400 with all the cheapest options. (hopefully not anytime soon, but something i have to take into account) I am currently working on a painting comm and might have another one coming up as well, which is giving me much joy. Watercolours are a lot of work, but they're less taxing in the sense that there's only so much detail you can do compared to digital, and tradi allows the happy little accidents with the medium. So it's easier to feel like I did my best wihtout having the thought "ah... i should've kept fixing it"(without asking for more money bc I gotta do better ad infinitum) So I'm really happy peeps have shown interest in tradi comms, even though I'm not very well versed in techniques with those. Learning tho!

My head's been in a relatively good place for a good while now, all things considered. But I have to pull the brakes on myself every now and then because I know it only takes one hard hit in the old mental health for all of it going to shit in the blink of an eye. So I'm trying to tread carefully, prep and plan while keeping the bar set low enough.

Mom has moved to hospice care, which also means that getting the phonecall about her passing can also be any day now. I feel like I've made my peace with it, but even if it doesn't initially hit hard, I'm pretty sure it will bring some mental struggle later. And there will be the whole episode of handling her stuff afterwards. Thankfully there won't be any wealth to distribute, so likely all the mandatory/legal expenses will be handled by welfare. How dreadful that even in that, money is the first thing to have to worry about, huh.

At least the sun has returned from the winter jail, bright days lighten the mind.

Crystal Heart OC Templates (blank by snarbsart)

Stumbled upon these OC templates this morning and had to take a crack at them. I plan to do three more for the remaining central characters of Crystal Heart.

Lately, in preparation for our smaller comic/writing project Sing On, Cicada!, I have started doing some thorough research and reading some comics/graphics novels. My main goals are to study the various different ways comic artists and writers lay out their pages, their panels, compositions, etc. and also highlight what works and what I enjoy about each of the comics I read and try to incorporate some of those elements into my own style. The main comics I have been reading lately have been Cosmoknights, Crowded, and Yes, Roya, with a major focus on how they handle backgrounds, character designs, and framing.

I've incorporated what I have picked up and learned so far into the profile pics above. Keeping my colored interior lines, I started adding in hatching and pure black shading to evoke shadows without needing to do a whole separate shading layer. Then I can just focus shadows where they are needed to either add mood or emphasizes features, such as the shapes of these characters' faces. I also have begun exaggerating shapes, such as the curves of the arms and the jutting wrists bones, to make these forms more dynamic. Finally I punched the saturation up just enough to give some vibrancy to what were rather flat colors before.

All this to say, I am trying to make my artwork evoke the same sorts of visuals and emotions that I find exciting about comic books, the things that make me ooo and aaaah. I hope you enjoy these little perspectives on our main trio for Crystal Heart! These were a lot of fun to make.

My friend and I headcanon that Oz revamps the Iceberg Lounge to fit the aesthetic from the old animated series/comics after the death of his mother. That old Hollywood theater aesthetic. Burlesque shows. Live jazz. Etc. It's his way of honoring her 😭 It'll probably never happen but dammit the thought makes my heart swell

Was thinking about the Robbie and Richie Rider family dynamic and now I'm thinking about a comics meta comic about family dynamics in a superhero universe.

Working title "My Brother Saved The World" and it's about a girl? Woman? Who's brother is some big time superhero. Probably a part of some Avengers/justice League type team*.

Like, obviously a lot of what happens to him is to further Richie's since it's Nova after all but I do like how the dynamic gets explored. He's smart but he's a nerdy human after all so he's a weak point for the hero and gets kidnapped. It's kind of to complicate the dynamics of Worldmind rebuilding the Nova Corps with a bunch of untrained humans but yeah, Robbie goes from being the successful nerd to his relative fuck-up brother to being a stepping stone to get to his brother (but in romance this time).

Like of course he's on his fan forums and gathering his merch that's his big brother, after all.

Anyway, yeah, a whole graphic novel or something around the sibling.

Who is covering for their teenage sibling sneaking out at night (to fight crime). After their sibling comes clean about their identity, who is there to comfort their parents while watching the news about a mad scientist attack. Maybe they skip going out with friends so that ther mom has a child to hold onto.

I think it'd be fun to do some of the mundane stuff too like, "your brother left his car to go stop the giant worm attacking the city and headed to headquarters straight after, can you grab it? If it's still there. Hopefully he remembered to lock the door this time". Figuring out if you can file a homeowners insurance claim for blasting the wall during a nightmare.

Oh and other world building bits! 'Cape comics' don't exist since that's like, realistic fiction (maybe they have Vampire movie fatigue lol). A lot of supergeniuses go into material science making hero outfits. Ooh maybe designers want to make superhero outfits. Do colleges have special track/contingencies for supergeniuses? I think it uh would get into weird territory about advantages in sports but maybe that waits until I figure out relative superhero rarity. How often are villain attacks? Maybe everyone is more likely to have less stuff in their office/school since Downtown proper is more likely to get random destruction.

Aaaah I need to work but letting this thought roll around like a moss ball

*I'm thinking about this specifically because the brother has a rivals to lovers subplot with someone on his team but it's way in the background like "So [other superheroes on the team] had an intervention and said they'd lock us in the training room to figure it out! I already know I'm the strongest, what is there to figure out? I'm glad they said they wouldn't interrupt but it's a waste to delete all of the footage right?

I know a little something something about how information works online and in a fandom environment specifically. I remember falling into the rabbit holes and (eventually) emerging to discover a sort of post-apocalyptic landscape, every time. Everything gets consumed by The Discourse, everyone ends up trapped in their own version of a bad faith argument, and we all get marauded and pillaged by trolls who just want to see the world burn. What I never fully expected was how we (in Livejournal, on Tumblr and then Instagram and Twitter) were the canaries in the coalmine of culture. Now it's not about fandom discourse but the behavior of both mainstream media and 'normal' individuals online. It's all drowned in the equivalent of high school drama and hallway gossip, except with lives at stake.

At least in fandom, you could argue there was no 'truth', because after all it was all about fiction. Of course, canon existed, but the nature of storytelling is such that we could all have a point. Not agree that we all had a point, but we could all have it without appearing to be literally insane.

I know that the people who believe conspiracies and spout garbage online based on next to no evidence (and then cling to it) are technically no less sane and ordinary than the equivalent types in fandom. This is 'just' human nature. We 'just' cannot bear to open our minds about things we feel to be true or have already staked some ego or social status on defending. And yet. It's just so ugly. We're just so UGLY. I roll my eyes, but I also want to scream sometimes, just like that comic above.

The same behavior that's kind of cute in children is just frankly terrifying and disgusting in adults. All I can think of, honestly, is that access to the internet-- or even the news!-- for the average person was simply a mistake. 'Sit down and shut up' is at the tip of my tongue, as far as your average internet poster yelling about this or that is concerned. At the same time (and even worse), all existing examples of top-down controlling the information environment have been dystopian tyranny. There's no controlling people without oppressing them. So here we may have a chaotic din, but the alternative is... well, worse.

I was just thinking recently about how I needed/wanted to reaffirm my personal commitment to the freedoms I believe in, in the face of all the speech by people I strongly believe are harming their republic and the quality of our discourse just by speaking publicly. There is such a thing as harmful speech, and I won't shy away from that. The freedoms of speech and assembly I think are vital may nevertheless do real damage to vulnerable people and to their causes. I won't shy away from acknowledging that. And I won't-- and can't-- simply say it'll all balance out in the 'marketplace of ideas'. In the long view, maybe. But for now, the most toxic, the loudest, the one with the most clicks and views-- that one wins.

And so it's more important than ever to reaffirm one's commitment to democratic speech and free assembly. Now, when it's actively painful sometimes, and my own personal freedoms are under threat and my own personal feelings are often hurt, to some degree.

Their speech may harm the republic, but the suppression of it would harm it more deeply, more irrevocably. This sort of painful chaos is the work of us. The balancing act of moderation is a work in progress, always a compromise, always a quest for ultimately piecemeal and inadequate solutions. They may be stupid and some may indeed be so brainwashed as to be crazy, and yet it matters little. I must allow them freedom just enough that they cannot take away mine.

2.5 Xianzhou continuance thoughts [part 3]

**SPOILER warning** for the entirety of the Feixiao boss battle and the quick Lingsha & Dan Heng scene that follows after it. Of course if you haven’t reached this part of the story yet, I kindly ask you turn away before reading any further. Also.. there’s a bunch of scenes featuring our Lacking General here, so you won’t see me lacking in praises as I go crazy about her.

Soon after recovering from Yanqing’s icy blade, Hoolay starts wreaking havoc by tearing his bloody heart out and driving fear into all the foxians onboard the Skysplitter, which is just.. grand. I’m honestly kinda relieved that Jiaoqiu wasn’t around for this because if I had to witness Feixiao taking him down, or vice versa depending on whomever went insane first, I probably would’ve cried.

I do think it’s a bit comical that the 2.5 trailer used this shot of Feixiao with her giant wolf spirit summoned behind her to make it seem like she was our next enemy when she’s so clearly about to help us and handle the situation herself.

So devouring the heart is indeed the cause of her losing control, which I assumed would happen the first time Hoolay mentioned the blood heart and.. I’m kinda glad this is the true reason? She chose to eat it in order to save the other foxians from breaking out into a mad frenzy at the cost of her going insane instead. She wasn’t a secret accomplice of Hoolay nor did he take control over her like I feared upon watching the teaser trailer. I also thought that Feixiao’s moon rage might’ve overtaken her courtesy of Jiaoqiu not being around to treat her in time or she simply gave into the rage after hearing whatever torture Hoolay put Jiaoqiu through. So yeah, I think it’s best she deliberately intended for this to happen and trust the kids to snap her out of it rather than have her emotions getting the best of her while Hoolay stood by on the sidelines watching all smug as Feixiao betrays everyone.

Oohhh, the red in her eyes is still such a simply terrifying detail. You really feel like you’re in danger being started at like that.

I wish they were able to change up her model to reflect the red ring though considering how small of a change it really is. I understand it wouldn’t be too noticeable during battle when she’s all the way across the field, especially if the player has the battle speed turned up, but it would’ve been nice. (I also wish they did something with Jiaoqiu’s eyes too at the end of the story, but that’s something I’ll ramble about next post.)

Sigh.. I know my first thought shouldn’t be “wow, wish that were me right now instead of Yunli,” and yet it’s all I can think about right here so.. sorry not sorry.

I’m torn between “I can fix her” and “she doesn’t need to be fixed.” Her bright, blue eyes were mesmerizing before and now they’re twice as gorgeous, even if she’s five seconds away from ripping off my limbs. Where’s Jade with that “What pretty eyes. Tell me, do they shine in the dark?” line when you need it. I’m a fan of that devilish smile too.

Sudden brief flashback to knock me out of my bewitched trace and land a critical hit on my heart, aaaah! No breaking promises allowed here! Especially if it involves your life! I’d much rather have you both keep your promises to each other please!

This whole ordeal inside her mind very much reminds me of when we looked upon Cocolia’s memories mid-battle, only this time we’re seeing Feixiao’s possible future if she chooses to follow in Hoolay’s footsteps and become the new borisin warhead. It was kinda reassuring learning about how our strong General does fear something, with how often rushes into battle without hesitation more often than not. Makes her feel more human rather than if she was truly fearless.

Kudos to her keeping her composure upon hearing about Jiaoqiu’s “death.” Feixiao either sees through Hoolay’s bluff and knows he’s only swaying her resolve so she cooperates with him as she’d have no other options of recovery without Jiaoqiu, or she trusts in her healer’s ability to stay alive. There could always be other reasons that I probably didn’t come up with too, I dunno, but her eyes did narrow upon hearing his name if memory serves correct. It does make me wonder why Hoolay didn’t straight up end Jiaoqiu’s life.. or perhaps he thought he did but never bothered to check? Which would’ve been so foolish but I digress. Still thankful that our handsome foxian is alive but hearing this taunt did worry me at the time.

Well, duh, of course Feixiao would refuse. If becoming the Xianzhou’s enemy is her worst fear, then I doubt she would yield to Hoolay and his plan, but I guess he didn’t think that point through very well. This also means General Huaiyan’s quote “Merlin’s Claw, you have betrayed the alliance” from the trailer was all a trick for us to believe Feixiao would turn on us too. Hoyo is being real deceiving this patch.

Oohh this flashback.. I knew bits about it already since I read Feixiao’s ascension character stories right when I got her but couldn’t remember off the top of my head which name belonged to Feixiao, but Hoolay eventually confirms that her real name before being saved by Yueyu and joining the Cloud Knights was Saran.

From trying to escape with Neergul, to the countless battles she’s fought it, Feixiao is always set on saving every possible life she can. No wonder she ate that cursed heart to spare the nearby foxians of madness.

The scene where she prays to Lan sorta reminds me of when Qlipoth gazed upon the Trailblazer and we gained the lance, if only because Feixiao’s battle axe comes crashing down from a beam of light moments later.

Speaking of heavenly beings, thank all the Aeons that we don’t technically fight Feixiao but Hoolay, who ends up transforming into her because if we had to harm this woman ourselves I’d be so sad. She’s been through enough fighting throughout her lifetime, I didn’t want to cause her any more pain! I’d lose the battle on purpose.

I’d gladly beat up Hoolay though. Especially after all the torment he caused Jiaoqiu. Feixiao certainly looks ready to give the warhead some hell too.

I’ll admit that I wasn’t too thrilled when we first learned we would be returning to the Xianzhou for the Wardance, but it turned out to be quite an experience. Half of my enjoyment of this continuance mission comes from how great the story was.. while the other half is strictly because of Feixiao. Of course I loved meeting and learning about the other new characters, especially the Yaoqing trio because they’re simply precious and I adore them all so much, but Feixiao just hit different for me in a way where I haven’t been this excited for character in a long time. She would no doubt be my favorite if Serval didn’t already exist.

I don’t know exactly why, but for some reason this frame reminds me of that one Jojo meme:

“Oh? You're approaching me? Instead of running away, you're coming right to me?" "I can't beat the shit out of you without getting closer."

Ah right, at this point the boss battle already happened, yeah? I don’t have much to say about it either, which is odd.. all things considered. It didn’t give me any trouble either, thankfully. I don’t really remember the battle theme they used though, which is a bit of a letdown after leaving Penacony with Aventurine & Sunday’s boss themes in mind. I was expecting another bop of a soundtrack but oh well. I’ll have to go back and listen to it again. Perhaps I was just too focused on Feixiao to notice. That must be it. When that girl takes the jacket off then you know things are about to get serious.

The final slash of the battle axe after she and Hoolay charged straight at each other gives such anime fight scene vibes and I’m totally okay with it. Congrats on defeating your inner demon, sweetie.

Aww the kiddos. Props to them for standing up against Feixiao (and surviving) while helping her return to reality.

GOD that smile of hers is so soft and precious AAAHH. She’s so proud and thankful for their assistance and sorry for putting that kind of pressure on them.

DANGER! The happy feelings are effectively nonexistent and all I feel now is sheer PANIC. You can’t even give me a moment to relax huh, Hoyo?? Pretty sure I audibly gasped upon reading those last couple words.

Yeah it’s great that us and Moze were able to find Jiaoqiu wherever he was left to die, but to cut to this scene with Lingsha & Dan Heng right after was such a dirty move, like I’m already so worried about our foxian and now we gotta try and focus on something completely different? Aaahh.. I feel so bad because I’m sure finding out who orchestrated the prison break and their reasons for doing so were important to the plot but I just couldn’t find it in myself to care at this moment.

I did love seeing Dan Heng summon Cloud Piercer to attack this dude and send him flying into the wall. The scene happened so darn quick I couldn’t even manage to snag a decent screenshot, but what I enjoyed even more was Dan Heng getting smart with him by saying the rules preventing this man from getting hurt while at this location don’t exactly apply to him. I’m gonna chalk this up as another time we’re a bad influence on our companion. “Rules are made to be broken” after all.

Again, I wish I paid more attention to that last scene but I was way too concerned about Jiaoqiu and the aftermath of the boss battle to not speed through it. Anyways, one more post to go.
