so true we do. a match was cancelled and rescheduled due to inclement weather, which is fine, it happens occasionally. except, the reschedule interferes with your work trip, which is how yuuta ends up with your baby boy in his lap at his pre-match press conference. yuuta was worried at first, your son definitely wouldn’t be used to the cameras and reporters, and it was also seven in the morning, so he really hoped the baby wouldn’t become too irritated, but all his worrying was for nothing. 

your baby boy didn’t seem to the mind the cameras, or the large crowd of people, his father was right there to hold him through the entire thing. with them side by side like this, their similarities really show; their droopy eyelids and tired expression, the occasional slow blinking when they’re confused or in thought, the same nose scrunch that makes everybody coo when it happens. one reporter mentions you by name, and that makes the otherwise sleepy baby perk and babble “mama” into the microphone instinctively, which melts everybody’s hearts, yuuta’s included, “that’s right, baby, that’s mama,” he coos, pinching his kid’s cheek before returning his attention to the reporter, “but, yeah, my wife—she’s great. she’s away on work right now, and we miss her a lot, but i’m so proud of her. i got to speak to her right before this conference actually, and she said she’d tune in when she could, so i hope she’s watching—wait, sorry, um… what was the question again?” (his rambling off about my wife my wife my wife is not new. it happens in every conference and interview, he’s just a loverboy through and through). 

during the match, it���s dead silent when yuuta’s about to serve and then there’s the tiniest cry of “dada,” just as he’s about the throw the ball up, which makes him smile and stop and turn to his son, and the entire crowd coos. yuuta is not too proud to blow a kiss before going to serve again.

How an animated series saved Remy LeBeau (again)

It's a bit of a hyperbolic title, but catchy, non?

I was looking over my comic collection as I've decided to reread X-Men's 60 year history over the course of the summer. And it got me thinking about a dead period of 616 canon that I've never actually read. Around the time Rogue hooked up with Magneto and scooted off to the Avengers, I decided I'd be done with comics for a while. And didn't start again until Rogue (and Gambit) came back to the X-books in 2017's Astonishing X-Men. But it made me wonder -- What happened to Gambit in that time??

Well, after his solo ended, he flitted around to X-Factor and hung out with X-23 and then kind of went 'poof' for a good long while.

Why? I can only guess the same reason this is a running motif with Gambit. There's something about him that drives the X-Office crazy. I'm not here to speculate what or how or who of it all. I don't know enough about the back end of Marvel to give concrete answers. But I think what has surprised me (recently) is that he's definitely a fan favorite character.

[Yes, I know he can be a divisive character. Yes, I know elements of his character from the 90s have not aged well. Yes, I know there are those of you who can't stand him. Don't really care - you can get off my lawn, thank you.]

Which got me thinking -- Gambit's original popularity, I believe, stemmed from the original X-Men Animated Series. He had just started showing up in the comics at the time, and had barely any kind of page time. And the X-Men TAS swung and was a hit. And so was Gambit.

I don't really know that Gambit would be around today if TAS hadn't done its thing. Would the X-Office have kept him around? I really have no idea.

But they did try to get rid of him. That was the point of leaving him in Antarctica. And things were just never the same after that. Claremont tried his best in the early 2000s. And then Deathbit happened. Carey's run wasn't bad. But Carey clearly had an agenda for other things... And then, Gambit just kind of faded into the background. (I hear his run as a side character for Laura (X-23) was good - but I haven't read that.)

Bless Kelly Thompson (always) for sparking life back into him with (and his relationship with Rogue). And bless the fact that she actually married him to Rogue. Yes, I understand comics -- my god look what they did to Peter and MJ, no one really gets to be happily married except Sue and Reed. He and Rogue are now really tied together in a way that I don't think is going to be undone any time soon.

Even if the X-Office still isn't thrilled with the guy. Krakoa era has been less than ideal. (I can't comment on it fully - I haven't read much of it, as I'm behind on my comic reading.) But I've heard rumors that one reason Thompson was let go was that she didn't want Gambit killed off. And she didn't like the direction they wanted to take the character.

Which leads me to X-Men 97. Killing him off sucked. Really. As a fan, it really sucked. But - my god, the reaction to it. Gambit was amazing. And all I've heard lately is good things about the character. There's been a Gambit resurgence in the best way. He may have went out -- but he went out with a bang. X-Men 97 made an emotional impact with people. And that changes things.

Gambit is cool again.

And I love it.

What's even more exciting is the fact that the X-Office has changed hands again and Gail Simone on Uncanny who (if her Twitter/X feed is to be believed) is really enjoying writing the character. Which means (hopefully) at least another year or two in the comics of some (hopefully) great Gambit stuff.

And maybe there will be some changing of hearts and minds in the X-Office.

It's actually very exciting.

And, guys, I really (really, really) doubt he'll be completely gone from X-Men 97, too.

Because Remy LeBeau never stays down for long.

But as a fan, it's nice to see him be on top again. And I don't think he's going anywhere anytime soon.

bonus malenia + morgott thoughts but i just found it cool to think on how that out of the demigods they're probably the only 2 who don't really have like self-centered motivations concerning what they're doing.

like godrick is just a power-hungry asshole who tries grafting in an attempt to make himself stronger because he knows he's the weakest of the bunch and this is apparently his best idea to get stronger.

rykard is ALSO a power-hungry asshole(affectionate <3) but he takes it like 10 times further and goes yeah i want more power so im going to feed myself to the "god-devouring serpent" I'm sure that'll work out fine with zero consequences whatsoever.

radahn is interesting because i don't really know if he cares for power or not??? (pls share your thoughts!!!) but his main motivations do lie primarily with his horse and as frejya puts it in the DLC, war suited radahn best so I'm assuming my guy just wanted to wage war forever so.

ranni is the funniest because she straight up tells us that she did EVERYTHING in an attempt to be free of the 2 fingers and whatever bullshit destiny they were enforcing on her which is valid (and also she succeeds in her goal without going batshit insane so good for her yk).

mohg is tricky because after the dlc I'm not quite certain how much we know about mohg is true to what he was like before he was bewitched but I think that mohg did indeed crave power and that he was willing to do whatever it took to attain that power which in this case is MAYBE becoming an empyrean's consort??? (again this is a bit muddy so bear with me pls) even if that isn't true I still think his primary motivation is to get power so.

and of course miquella, despite his altruistic ambitions of helping everyone and making the world a kinder place; still has the rather self-centered notion of like "oh I have to be the one to become a god and I have to become a god because I'm the only one who can fix things!!!" bottom line: good intentions perhaps, still just wants to become a god.

morgott and malenia are interesting because they don't technically have ambitions of their own they sort of act on behalf of someone else in a sense.

in the game everything morgott does he does for the sake of the golden order. despite the fact that he's an omen he loves the golden order and protects the erdtree and he's so devoted to it wholeheartedly that he sees his other siblings as 'traitors' for betraying the order despite the fact that it's the fucking worst.

anyways in this case, morgott acts on behalf of the golden order.

malenia's just a slam dunk for this because her title is literally malenia blade of miquella and I'm sure anyone who's fought her has heard that like at least 200 times; she's wholeheartedly devoted to her brother, would do anything for him and his cause and fucking nuked an entire continent because he asked her to fight radahn.

and in this case malenia acts on behalf of miquella.

both of them don't really have "selfish" motivations in a sense; morgott doesn't love the golden order because he hopes it'll give him something back and malenia simply does everything for miquella because he's her brother and she loves him more than anything in the world.

bless these cursed children i love all my war criminals but I'm afraid that these two are my favorites.

also side note: bear in mind the reason some of the demigods might be batshit insane might be because of the corrupting power of their great rune (or yk in mohg's case because of miquella) so who knows what their actual motivations were and how those motivations were corrupted yk.

“Silco…” A familiar voice chimed in a sing-song tone, followed by a woman sauntering in. Her frame familiar to Silco, especially the way her hips so effortlessly moved and how her arms and hands moved around her own self like a magnetic, mysterious aura.

“Arivick,” He greeted, his voice like the crackle of fire to her ears, a crackle of fire she liked to prod at. “You called for me…” She whispered, walking towards his desk like a pet to its owner.

“We have a meeting soon and I want you there. You make them uncomfortable—make them feel endangered.” He said, head tilting to look at the woman.

She nodded, eyes glancing at her left hand. Her left hand relatively normal but hidden with a strange glove like mechanism with syringes connected to four vials of a lethal version of Shimmer she made.

“You’re offended by what I say?” Silco asks, hands folding infront of him and eyes grazing over Arivick expectantly.

She only shrugged before pulling something out from her side pocket and offering it to her ‘friend’.

“What’s this?” Silco asks before taking it from her and examining it, eye catching the Shimmer vial in it. “For your eye.” She purrs before turning to face him and all he did was raise an eyebrow.

Arivick took it from him before crawling over the desk and finding her way to straddle Silco, trapping him under her. “I’ll show you how to do it.” She whispered into his ear, right hand messing with the contraption. Silco wasn’t very fond of this closeness, how she so easily found her way onto him…doing something he didn’t plan out and execute.

Silco nervously adjusted himself under the mad woman who toyed with the item in hand—dangling it over his poor eye. “Your heart is beating fast Silco, 126 beats per minute. Did you know that?” She chuckled, looking at him.

“I did.” He lied. Arivick’s eye twitched.

“Why are you lying.” She hissed, putting her left index finger near his good eye, syringe pointed close. “Stop fucking lying.”

Silco only continued to stare at her, feeling frozen as Arivick pointed the syringe at his good eye. Silco watched the needle nervously before chuckling, masking his fear.

“Making demands when you’re under my hand.” He huffed, placing both hands on her thighs and digging his nails into the plush skin which coerced a hiss of pain from Arivick. Luckily, she moved away her armed hand and closed her eyes.

“Don’t worry, Pet,” Silco murmured before continuing, “I’m not your old owner.”

Arivick sighed and looked at him, her deep colored eyes boring into his. Like a switch, something in her head flicked over and she leaned closely to his face.

Quickly, she placed a kiss on his lower lip before pulling away. “Then show me,” She whispered as her other hand went to his tie—pulling him to lean in by it.

Within seconds he attacked her lips, kissing her roughly, almost his way of showing her that he had more experience—that this was something he will always be better at.

Desperately, Arivick began grinding against Silco’s dick, the large print fitting perfectly as she rutted against him as best she could. Silco groaned into the woman’s mouth before pulling away and leaning his head on the back of his chair.

Arivick quickly pulled off her hand mechanism and undid her shirt, desperately trying to get her fill of Silco. “C’mon,” She ushered breathlessly.
