"love is work" - nanami kento x reader

summary: title is self-explanatory tbh--the idea that nanami kento views love as work could be applied to any scenario. but, i think it would be interesting for the reader to be the person he meets at the bakery. maybe the bakery is a family business, so the reader's work is literally driven by familial love. although, im not sure if that means they agree or disagree with nanami about love being work.

alternatively, the reader could be a co-worker of nanami's.

conflicts/themes:

serving oneself vs. serving others

what makes love/work worth it?

"meet cute" - fushiguro megumi x reader

there are so many canon strangers to lovers opportunities with megumi lol.

like, being the person "hitting on" (asking for directions from) fushiguro during that one juju stroll.

or the person getting robbed and saved by the 1st year crew, also from juju stroll. (also applicable for yuji and nobara x reader)

there's also the light novel chapter where megumi and yuji stalk gojo at a maid cafe, so maybe the reader works at the maid cafe, and the very stoic but handsome megumi catches their eye. this scenario could also be applicable to yuji x reader or gojo x reader.

there's also an original scenario i was thinking of cuz megumi likes reading (specifically non fiction) so what if the reader was a worker at a book store or a librarian. maybe they know about sorcery already because they read a non-fic book about it and recognize his uniform when he walks in.

also i haven't seen a megumi x tsumiki's friend!reader, esp considering that one girl when tsumiki is confronting megumi about bullying lol. this one could have an interesting conflict bc that girl urged tsumiki to do the test of courage that ended up getting her cursed! so then how would megumi deal with his love interest (the reader) also being the person somewhat at fault for his sister's demise?

not a meet-cute prompt but generally i think it would b interesting in any megumi fic for gojo to be a conflict. like, as megumi's father figure, he doesn't want megumi to end up like him and suguru, so he's very hesitant about letting megumi fall in love with someone since "love is the most twisted curse of them all." but i think in the end, he might realize that love/the reader is exactly what will stop megumi from turning into suguru, so gojo ends up giving the reader his blessing.

"sugar makes blood thicker" - geto suguru x reader

tw: spoilers for gojo's past/hidden inventory/star plasma vessel/premature death arc, angst, DARK CONTENT, self-destructive behaviors, self-harm, eating disorders

summary: reader is a student at jujutsu high in 2006, alongside geto and gojo. reader is from the kamo clan and uses blood manipulation. they've been taught to keep a very strict diet to optimize the viscosity of their blood. just like how geto hates the taste of cursed spirits, reader hates the taste of their diet. they fall in love with each other, because they've finally met someone that makes them feel understood.

if you want to go even darker, the reader's technique may involve cutting (kind of like marie from gen v)

conflicts/themes:

what's the point of fighting for a world that's done nothing for you in return? ("what has the world done for me lately?")

sugar makes blood thicker, which i can imagine is harder to control for a blood manipulation user

gojo satoru is the opposite of the reader: he eats however he pleases, which includes lots of sweets, so it's hard for the reader to be around him/doesn't like him. as a result, it's also hard for geto to have to pick sides between his best friend and the reader

ending: canon ending; geto chooses reader over gojo; they turn evil and run away together with nanako and mimiko. although it could also be interesting for geto to choose gojo over the reader, or if there's somehow a happy ending for everyone here.

I have no title for this one but gojo x megumi's older sister reader

self-explanatory. during the 2006 arc, after gojo kills toji. they raise megumi together <3

"if only i could go back" - any character x reader

summary: this is pretty self-indulgent lol this one's for everyone who wants to heal everyone's trauma and just have a happy ending lmao. i had this idea of the reader either being a sorcerer or a curse who has the power to grant one wish but in doing so sacrifices themselves (they die). so, obviously, they're in high demand by everyone:

megumi wants to heal his sister

gojo wants to bring suguru back

geto wants to rid the world of non-sorcerers

toji wants his wife back

shoko wants her friends back

etc

some situations the reader may find themselves in are being held at the school so that nobody can use their power unless absolutely necessary. or maybe they were captured by the curse users.

technicalities about the reader's power: they can't grant their own wish, but they have full autonomy over whose wish they can grant, meaning the only way that someone could get their wish granted is through befriending and persuading the reader.

conflicts/themes:

characters having to choose between their wish (which kills the reader) and their fondness of the reader (wanting the reader to stay)

will they truly be happy if their wishes are granted?

how does the reader feel about being the method of people's desires but not actually being the desire?

Opinion on Reinhard's dad possibly seeing "the son he never had" on Garfiel? It could totally take that route tbh

It would be a fun dynamic imo

oh anon as a heinkel fan (hes soo terrible but so fascinating and i WANT to see him get better and grow as a person. but also you may have known that since you are asking me this hah) and someone who is quite fond of garf i lovedddd the recent heinkel-garfiel chapters... and LMAO this idea of like. heinkel being a bit soft on garfiel bc yay!! new son replacement!!! is SO FUNNY ive thought about it a little bit. and IT WOULD BE FUN and i think heinkels arc is super interesting bc he kinda hit his rock bottom in like about arc 7-early arc 8 where its like. its post arc 5 astrea drama so shit just got even more bleak for heinkel, hes stuck in dangerous territory and he doesnt believe in himself At All and hes too depressed to really try all that much at anything.

but then GARFIEL comes along and saves heinkel a couple times and garfiel gets hit down but keeps getting right tf up - and that goes against like literally everything heinkel thinks. he doesnt try to be better bc he doesnt think he can ever accomplish it no matter how hard he tries, but garfiel is someone who just WONT stop trying.

and we also see that heinkel learning more about rowan and cecilus and the whole deal with the segmunts has made heinkel go "oh. okay haha maybe im not as far gone as i thought" bc heinkel gets shown another example of a dysfunctional family with an extremely op son and a deadbeat alcoholic dad and theyre a mirror of reinhard and heinkel. except rowan and cecilus are like if reinhard and heinkel werent so miserable about their shit relationship, bc as shitty as heinkels behavior is deep down he still CARES. he cares a lot about his family. he misses reinhard - why else would he need schult to be a replacement? he's still mourning that loss, if you think about it. but rowan is just so batshit that heinkel immediately goes backtracking like "OKAY IM. IM NOT THAT BAD. MAYBE THERES A TINY LITTLE SPECK OF HOPE FOR ME AFTER ALL."

and garfiel is helping to be a catalyst as well bc of his own determination to always keep growing and keep fighting no matter what gets in his way. hes a spunky little kid whos powerful but when faced with opponents stronger than him Refuses To Give Up. thats inspirational i think for heinkel, especially when its not as if hes a shit fighter, dude is just outshadowed by his family and other people around him. he just has to get up and keep trying, so its interesting that heinkel DOES find the courage to try and protect garfiel while garfiel's trying not to die.

like i do think that its heinkel like having this grudging respect for garfiel after the interactions theyve had, also possibly feeling inspired by garfiel and having that tiny bit of hope in him after meeting rowan and interacting with garfiel, and also trying to repay garfiel. bc heinkel treats himself like dirt and gets treated like dirt a lot - im sure his thought process might be "this kid took the time to keep saving me even though im literally worthless and now hes in danger, this is the least i can do". i would be interested if it went the route of like. heinkel having that fatherly instinct rekindled - i think itd be interesting for garfiel as well bc. he IS lacking a father figure, but for heinkel, i think that its clear with how he acts with schult that heinkel does kind of miss having a son and having that sort of love in his life.

we know he DID use to be a good dad, and tbh i always kind of headcanoned that heinkel probably isnt that mean with most kids unless its someone like. you know. subaru. or julius. or reinhard of course. like heinkels not that much of an ass when his life is on the line or when there isnt super personal stakes involved (ie astrea stuff). hes a character that carries a lot of guilt and shame and self-hatred, someone who's spiraled into being the worst version of himself when he used to be bright-eyed and hardworking and full of love despite the weight on his shoulders - i think he would see a very kind and determined and spirited kid like garfiel (and might be reminded of the kid he Used to love) and hope that garfiel doesnt end up like him (ie lost, burnt out, and depressed). we see this sort of behavior a bit with schult too, bc heinkel tries to give schult advice and tries to look after schult a bit in general!! and garfiel's like a better version of heinkel you know? garfiel's a bit abrasive with a quick temper and all but hes extremely well intentioned in just about everything he does. and i think heinkel might have a fondness for all of garfiel's antics at this point T^T

congratulations on getting an agent! that’s amazing 🎉 do you mind sharing your querying journey (what was it all like? when you started, how many queries you sent, how many full requests, and other stats? things you expected about querying? things you didn’t expect? lessons you learned? etc?)? just whatever you feel like sharing 😊

Yes!

So tbh I feel like I both had an easier but longer journey. I didn't send too too many queries (in contrast to some folks) but I was querying for a long time. I started when I was 18 for reference, so I queried for almost four years exactly (3 years and 352 days lol) but I took long pauses to overhaul the novel between query batches based on any feed back I'd gotten. I sent queries in batches of 4-6 and didn't send more until I'd gotten responses from everyone from one batch.

So:

33 queries sent (I resent edited queries to the same agents 4 times which feels a little 🧍🏿‍♀️)

6 partial requests (quick bit of advice: different agents have different specific ways they want you submit. It might be annoying to reformat everything, but just do it)

4 full requests (and let me tell you, when I sent fulls to "famous" agents, I was waiting for upwards of half a year, which can also account for the time gap)

1 offer of rep (woohoo!!!!) from an agent I feel really understands my vision for the book, and will be a great representative for me when sub time comes. For revisions, I'm not having to change any plot points, just explain a little bit more stuff so they're not too grueling. Plus I write super fast and that helps lol.

I think querying for so long definitely toughened me up. I was really expecting for the first agent I queried, who I considered a dream agent at the time, to adore my book, sign me immediately, and offer no critiques before we went on sub for three seconds and scored a billion dollar deal (and I queried her TWICE because I was just that hooked up on it lmao). As you can see, that didn't happen. I got some rejections after months, and some after only a few hours. And at the begining? Oh they HURT. They hurt BAD.

And then you get another and another and another, and the sting lessens over time.

I became a lot better at being critical of myself, which I feel like is the most important skill in querying- understanding that you are going to have to make heavy edits, kill your darlings, and just overall refine you book in ways you didn't see before. Even the version I sent to the agent I signed with was far from perfect, and I'm making revisions. And that's okay. It's a step to getting published.

It... Was hard. I had a friend tell me it was just not the right time for my book and to shelve it. I think that hurt more than a rejection. But I knew I wanted to be an author, and I knew I wanted to tell these character's stories, so I just kept working. I rewrote my book more times than I can count since I started writing it at 15. It's just all a very long process, and you have to be patient, and you have to KNOW that this is what you want to do and you're going to do it.

Last weird little tidbits of advice:

I had one person read a very old copy of my book. I had no beta readers. I never hired an editor. Don't do what I did. Beta readers can help you so so much. If you can find someone willing, have them help you!!!

Query that agent! I almost didn't query my agent because they said they were a fan of beautiful prose, and I didn't think I had that. But, after mustering the courage, I finally did and look what happened. Just send the query!! The worst they can say is no!!

If you get personalized feedback from a rejection, that is still really helpful. My book is better now mostly because of my rejection feedback because it was all telling me the exact thing to work on. For me, the writing was fine, but I tended to under-explain things. I got that feedback.... A lot. And I was able to fix it and eventually get an agent (woo!)

(even though my revisions are still centered around explaining oops-)

Anyway, I hope this was helpful! I hope I was able to give you a pretty good picture of my querying time! It was... Definately something!

step 3: KEEP the DETAILS of the ONES you HATE CLOSE to your HEART and NEVER

EVER LET GO

THIS will come in handy when you're in the world on tour. be sure to gaze at every stranger in the eye. when you've found your target, you won't just know, you'll FEEL like you know...

step 4: now experiment! in which of this diverse collection of enemies do YOUR facial features and whatnot cause the most unrest, surprise, etcetera. be sure to identify what ELSE could be causing this among the curent locals!

step 5: well, it's simple! you must be courageous in these trying times, my friend, the world surrounding you simply does not understand! depict your face and your body as you please, or with malicious intent. it's not like i can control you lmao!

step 6: in i'm sure MANY circumstances, you wont be able to make yourself look "big" in the same way to the locals, but i'd like to claim without evidence that oft in studying themselves n' how they truly look, men're changed eternally

addendum: BE ADVISED AGAINST BY ME from using the "data" you have on the faces you like in the same way. have i made this mistake? seems like an obvious one to avoid, tbh!

1 - After like a year of slowburn and then becoming not just friends but not yet lovers™ they have a big fight and then kiss in a forest

When Val is abt to confess, Jack was so scared of being in a relationship again since Jenny he kinda self sabotoged and told her he never wanted to see her again and stuff. he has like a monster complex or something he was really afraid of hurting her.

Anyways after their breakup before they even started dating™ something rlly bad happens to Jack. i havent really figured out what happens yet, but he's like in a coma for some reason and theres a chance he might never wake up 💔 and then while Valerie is crying in his forest he manages to wake up with the power of love and friendship and then he runs to find her and then he's out of breath and they stare at each other for like 2 minutes and then they make out 😈

After that Val passes out for some reason and then Jack lets her sleep in his bed while he watches over her. And then the next day they both say 'i love you' and yay!! boyfriend and girlfriend!! I have alot to flesh out but thats essentially what happened lmao.

2 - HMMMMM.. i think they'd be friends tbh.

I see Dollie showing Valerie silly chick flicks while talking about their boyfriends. Like if Jeff does something that made Dollie mad Val offers to slash his tires or something lmfao.

They're kinda opposites when it comes to the "pink girly girl" spectrum, like Val is alot more pastel and muted and Dollie is more vibrant. However ik they would run a highschool in 2009 like the NAVY. Regina George who??? (i'm just kidding. regina i love you. forgive me.)

3 - Kind of friends?

After Val became a proxy and Jeff's eye healed from her stabbing him, she apologized and gave him a box of cigarettes when she mustered up the courage lol. The cigarettes were all just ones she found on the ground so when Jeff opens the box he's like "is this girl serious" bc he can't smoke those 😭 He 100% thought she was being mean to him but before he can say anything he sees her face and its pretty clear she's being genuine. She was a very sheltered as a child and any type of "bad" behavior she wasn't really taught much about so she didn't know anything about cigarettes.

Anyways after that Jeff is like "I can't smoke these but thanks ig" and things are still a bit awkward but theres not really any tension between them anymore. Eventually they get paired up for a mission and they get a bit closer yayay

Valerie is mostly just extremely curious about Jeff. Like he's the polar opposite of what she was raised to be when she was alive. She's never really seen anyone like him before which is why she's so fascinated by him. Hopefully that makes sense :P

Their convos mostly just consist of Jeff answering her questions and laughing at her face when he says a swear word.

3 - Not really

In my au, proxies usually die and then stay that age forever. They're like kind of immortal in the sense they can't really pass on, but they don't age. Like mentally or physically.

So when Val becomes a proxy at 19 she doesn't really grow any older. Theres not a canon version of her thats older than 19 years old.

Sooo, I have the worst memory, can’t remember if I already messaged you (or just thought about it 😂)… but just wanted to ask you how things are going with work and the toxic coworker? I hate that you have had to deal with that! I have been out of my old toxic work environment for about a month now, and I am def mentally feeling better about it!! So still hoping you will get to a better place regarding your work environment too!!

Ahhh! I've been meaning to go back to that conversation, because I couldn't remember if I replied to you!! I'm SO GLAD that you're out of it and doing better!! I love that for you, and you deserve it.

Things are still rocky with my co-workers, and I'm trying to quit, but my boss is impossible to reach. I've had a 'notice of leave' type letter written for weeks, but I'm too scared to give it to her! The work environment is still veryyy toxic and I don't think it ever won't be, tbh. But I want to talk to her in person about my issues before straight up quitting, and then if she tries to convince me to stay - like, "no, we can work this out" (which will never happen) - I'm just gonna blame the weather and say I don't feel safe driving an hour to work in upcoming winter conditions, lmao.

So yeah, still toxic, but I'm actively trying to leave now. I'm scouring indeed for other jobs, too, or might just take a break for a month ish, while I get my life straightened out. 😅 But I will let you know how it goes, both talking to her, and when I finally get out of there!! I can see myself potentially being happy, doing something else, which says a lot because i've been pretty depressed lately, so I just have to get the courage to actually take that necessary step. anyways, yeah my mom also cosplays! Back when I first watched Star Wars at 8 or so I really wanted to cosplay Leia and she had the idea of cosplaying Padme,, kinda sad that we somehow never got to do that so far, maybe I should bring it back up, now that we can freely live out our interests again without anyone mocking them or making stupid comments!

but yeah I hope she understands it then slkdjslk and ngl it wouldn't even surprise me if I get the courage to ask her that she'd buy one for herself too skldjslk just lately we finished the Clone Wars after all

From what I've heard, once you get the hang of it it seems to be rather easy? just a bit time consuimg I think with all the layers of making it look realistic and such- and noo D: but it should be rather easy to find another tutorial I think! Whenever I had to look up smth for cosplays I always found a lot of videos!

And yeah pinning it to a bodysuit does sound like the best idea to work with it!

it should hopefully be easy to do? if not i can always ask my mum to help since shes said that if i ever get into cosplay (very much into it now djldskjdskj) she would love to help since shes got experience making costumes for my sisters dance classes when she was young lol

yeah finding the one i saved will be impossible so il look again for tutorials in general for it. might be able to find one specific for bo-katan/sabine! (just realised id need different coloured armour for them both but i guess i can just use one set and colour it differently depending on the cosplay)

yeah i think its the best way to do it? i mean in the shows/movies you see the people wearing armour all having like a black bodysuit on thru the joint sections, should be the best option of doing it tbh

Part 6: Reflection

Call me Vyn because I'm a very self reflective person LMAO after I noticed my new hyperfixation, I started asking myself- wow, how did this happen? I was aware of the fact that the timing has played a part of it, but I also love analysing my emotions towards characters because believe me, if I fall in love with one, I could probably write a book about all the reasons why (this post barely covers any of it!) I’m very passionate about writing, so I gush about character’s writing a lot because that writing itself is what made me fall in love with them.

So here are some of the main points that stood out to me listed using lyrics from incredibly old songs that are not even what I listen to! LOL

1) I can be your hero BaBEH

In Luke blossom chapter (and it might be referenced in some cards) it’s revealed how Luke became an agent. I can’t find the exact scene but Luke says that as a kid, after him and Rosa were rescued by a police officer, he wanted to be able to make people feel that comfort he felt when the officer said “Don’t worry, I’m here.”

One day at the capital while helping someone he got involved in some case and then the NSB noticed his actions and recruited him, Luke accepted because he wanted to get stronger and to be able to protect others with them. (It’s kind of sad that in the main story you notice the moment Luke reveals his identity as an agent to make others more relaxed, they become terrified instead LOL the police effect doesn’t have the same effect on others oops)

Luke also talks in that chapter about how it feels, being the “hero”

I actually completely understand his motivation, because growing up.. I had a very similar mindset. I had a bit of a rough childhood, but my respite used to be my PlayStation 2. I loved coming home and running to this very small TV we had and just boot up incredibly cheap copies of games that cost like two dollars LMAO and I idolized the heroes of the games I played and the TV shows I watched (it was mostly sonic tbh LOL) I wanted to bring others happiness just like how they did for me and others.

And I did act on it back then, but being a kid full of fears- over time my anxiety took over and I stopped. I became a person who only freezes and needs others to help instead of the opposite. Luke worked on his goal and became the hero he wanted and he keeps being that hero despite the reality he faced about the downsides, but he presses on. He basically had the courage I never had, and I admire him so much for it. He reminds me so much of my childhood heroes, and I must’ve noticed it from early on in the story.

His words towards Ted in that scene in his personal story really hit for me, I felt like Ted because I try but I’m not strong or courageous enough to help others the way that I want like Luke, but Luke says he thinks he’s a hero in his own way for trying despite being a mess, because that’s how it’s like being a hero in the first place.

I think I’m getting better now, I might not be who I dreamed to be as a child but I still try despite everything by helping others with little things and it’s starting to make me feel so much better about myself as a person. Thanks Luke lmao.

Expanding more on being the Hero, to be one you usually have to jump to action immediately.

I experienced the event “Mystery of Bakerlon” and I noticed that they always show that Luke is always about action. If he sees any type of injustice, he jumps in to help unlike the other boys who would do it more in an indirect way. Seeing him immediately block someone’s fist while protecting another and then give those dead eyes- it does something to me LMAO

Also.. also.. YALL.. this scene

He’s also described as Rosa’s knight? And takes the role of a fire fighter as well? It’s like they know what I’m into haha.

I- I’m revealing too much of my dirty laundry in this post LOL

So basically I have a problem with feeling alone LOL I think most people do! and I don’t mean alone as in I always want to be around others- that sounds like a nightmare. But I mean alone as in no one to turn back to, no one to cry to, no one to even talk to while you’re at your lowest and need someone.

And usually it just feels like nobody cares- you’re just there to listen to their problems and be there for them, they don’t owe you anything. And really, they don’t because it was your decision to be that kind of person, because you care about them.

Luke for some reason, just happened to say the stuff I wanted to hear the most. “I’m the rock and wind by your side.” “I’ll always be there for you.” “I’ll always support whatever decision you make.”

So many of the cards show his devotion to the MC and I guess my delulu head ended up getting attached because those words would actually comfort me LMAOO

I can’t remember where this scene happens but one time, despite Rosa being the one in the wrong for being rude to Luke who was just worried about her not sleeping and working too much, he doesn’t get mad at allâ€¦ She does apologize for her behavior (thankfully) but he’s like hey don’t worry I’m not mad, I understand. And I was here like “why don’t I have people like you in my life?” LOL

TLDR; He’ll never leave you or let you feel alone

3) No one can hurt you nooww

Wow would you look at that? My obsession is connected to another fear of mine! LOL are we noticing the pattern?

I have a hard time feeling safe- I’m not going into details but because of this fear every time I see a character that’s like protective, you could say I latch onto them wishing they were real so they can make me as safe as I feel whenever I see them.

Whenever Rosa feels unsafe or scared, Luke is always there to comfort her saying that there’s nothing to be afraid of because he’s here. And it shows multiple times that Rosa really does feel so safe around Luke- and I just, man! I want that sense of safety badly AHAHHA But yea I become so down bad whenever Luke protects or assures the MC that she’s safe with him

TLDR; He makes me feel safe T_T

4) Luck and control, wait this isn’t a lyric-

So, I don’t know enough for this topic cause I probably need to read more Luke cards (I usually avoid reading ones I’m planning to get in the future but my luck has been terrible) but I have a sneaking suspicion- that Luke’s obsession with planning and controlling the future comes from how he feels like he has no control over anything in his life.

You notice in his stories that he’s always meticulously planning, planning for trips- planning for the year, he has lists everywhere, keeps journals and he plans for every worst case scenario. I… I do the exact same thing LMAO part of the reason why is because it often feels like my life is always out of control so I’m desperately trying to quell my anxiety by trying to control whatever I can.

This loss of control usually comes from feeling like the world is out to get you, constantly getting in unlucky situations that make you wish you could have prevented it somehow and then it festers internally in the form of self depreciation like it’s all my fault, I deserve this. (Something that Luke also said once, I deserve this- it’s karma.)

So my theory is that Luke constantly feels unlucky and like everything is out of his control so he tries to plan and control his life to hold on to his sanity but all it does is drive the idea that he could’ve prevented things from happening leading to a lot of self hatred and guilt-

but that’s just a theory! A game theory! Thanks for reading.

(but note that Rosa helps him through this mindset with making him be more free, a lot of the points here about Luke are actually basis for character development he goes through later on in his route with Rosa and gets WORSE in the main story which is interesting to see but also painful)

5) An angel with a shotguuun, wait- I listen to this song

Ah, the duality of Luke Pearce that somehow made me even more enamored by him.

(I can be your angle… or yuor devil) Luke is often described as warm, reminding the MC of sunshine, however he is also connected to rain (often in Luke cards if you haven’t noticed, Luke and Rosa keep getting DRENCHED LOL) Even in his confession and proposal cards, it rains on them.

His scent is described as sunshine after rain, because while rain follows Luke wherever he goes, there’s always a fire burning within him. This fire has been associated with Luke multiple times in the game.

There are so many more examples for both the rain and fire, and I think a lot might have noticed the fire part from his card “Sky ashes”, the event “Lukeout fire”, and his card “Invincible for Love” The rain can also be seen in cards like “Looming nightmare” and 1st and 2nd anniversary cards.

I think Luke representing both Rain and Fire also connects with his double life as Detective Pearce and Agent Raven.

If you look closely at this card by the way.. you notice that the “Luke” side is more warm color toned with a candle to represent his warmth and fire, meanwhile the “Raven” side has colder tones and there’s droplets of water on the glass looking like rain.

do you know what results from rain and sunlight?

Luke is surrounded by rain, however he has fire burning within him that Rosa is the one able to make him shine it, and that’s why when they’re together.. a rainbow is created. A rainbow that she usually notices first, and can be a double rainbow representing how to Luke everyday with her has been a miracle to him.

Luke once says that he would always take Rosa to look for the treasure under the rainbow, but then he discovered that she was his treasure all along. I think he’s not only saying it because she’s precious to him, but because to him, all the rainbows he’s seen were created by her light. That’s why his confession gift is the two of them holding hands under the rainbow, that rainbow is one created by them.

I’m a sucker for symbolism like this, and a sucker for characters that are so well written that you discover that there is just more and more below the surface. Luke is a complex character with two sides that are still him, and I’m captivated the more I learn about him.

TLDR; God they’re so perfect and make me mentally ill

There are many other reasons like the fact I think he’s so freaking cool and I admire so much about him, or how due to my past I feel loved by gifts especially ones bought or made with me in mind- so when Luke turned out to be the type of guy to constantly be giving gifts ones MADE BY HIM and he constantly mentions that “there are not enough occasions to use as an excuse” to give gifts to the MC. Ugh- agh- I’m dying.

I also was a huge fan of totally spies as a kid I always wanted those gadgets they had LMAO I thought they were so cool- yet Luke over here is literally making ones and giving them to Rosa for protection. Like the keychain with an alarm, a lipstick tranquilizer and a hair pin for secret communication.. GAHH so cool and- caring!!

Hi, I'm Natsumi, and I'm wondering who is even reading this but if you are, welcome to a very long post about how I got into Tears of Themis, how it helped me through such a hard time, and how I ended up falling in love with a certain detective.

I made this post for an event on hoyolab but I’m posting it here too in my trashcan! I already wanted to have a post documenting this online just for myself, even if in the future I cringe while reading it, I can look back and remember the emotions I felt through the year. I also wanted to share it with the world so that maybe people will feel like me, or come to appreciate this character that I love so much as much as I do. (you’re free to reblog btw!)

Warning: This post is mostly about Luke!

It contains spoilers about some Luke cards and some spoilers for his Blossom Chapter. There are small scenes from episodes 2 and 5 of main story as well. Oh, and Artem and Luke 2nd anniversary cards.

Part 1: Introduction

I play Genshin (shocker) and I have some online friends who play it as well, so when Tears of Themis came out globally since it's made by Hoyoverse as well, most people who played genshin went to check it out. I discovered Tears of Themis through those people, and I was recommended the game by my online friends.

What was my response?

“I have no phone storage.” AAHAHAH, yes. I'm not a day one player. I only started during the second anniversary because back when the game came out despite being interested I could not play because I did not have any device that could handle the game. My phone could not handle Genshin's size either, it's not compatible to begin with- I played Genshin on the PlayStation [emoji]

However I did not forget about the game, I was just hoping that somehow one day, a miracle will happen and I will be able to play mobile games like other people LOL but what are the odds of that happening?... Well, a miracle happened 2 years later.

Bonus: I had a little beef at the time with Artem because I kept thinking drawings of him were actually of Jumin who is a very well written character I love like crazy from mystic messenger since 2016 BWAHAHA

Part 2: Contact

So one day I was visiting my aunt's house and met my cousin's acquaintance. I met the guy for like.. only 2 hours and during those hours my cousin told him about how I draw digitally but I have been drawing on an 8 year old phone that stays alive for like 30 mins at a time AHHAHA

The guy was like “That's it, I'm getting you an iPad to draw on.” I laughed, thinking he was joking- but then 2 days later I received TWO iPads, one for me and one for my little sister! W t f. Angels do exist on earth? And I was never able to thank him in person because he's a busy guy who only visited my village and I never saw him again o.o

Can you guess what I started doing when I got it? Download a bunch of games I wanted to try throughout the years but couldn't! Among them was Tears of Themis. My house didn't have the best Internet and had a couple hours of electricity a day so I downloaded it very slowly at my aunt's house.

I remember so clearly about how I sat next to my sister as I was downloading the game, and it started playing the second anniversary promotion video since it was starting during that time. At first I was like “aww, they proposing!” but suddenly things turned spicy and I almost dropped the iPad from my hand HAHA.

I did not know what to expect going into this game because I stayed away from spoilers and videos about it since I knew I wanted to get into it myself one day (I was interested in the main story). It made me sad too to be honest because I wanted to play it but couldn't, so I avoided it for years.

I however, did not expect at all that the game would get THAT spicy LMAO my sister noticed my reaction and she was like “What's up?” And I was like “you cannot see this” though she is older than the game’s age rating AHAHHA

Part 3: The beginning

I was so excited getting into this game! When I started I was incredibly hooked to the main story, and at the time.. hear this.. I had a bias towards Artem because he looked like Jumin AHAHA

I was honestly more interested though in the main story than the boys, because the boys didn't make me feel much at the time- I do not have a “love at first sight” I never had that kind of experience for real life people or fictional people. (Anyone can experience it, and that's valid! It's just for me personally that never happens.)

After knowing characters and learning more about them, that's when sometimes- I fall in love with them as a character, they end up giving me so much happiness just seeing them, they give me comfort.. And they fill up my sketchbooks HAHA is this love romantic? Usually no, that's very rare!

I did not feel much for Artem (turns out the only thing he and Jumin have in common were their looks and being socially awkward, shocker-) but I had a little interest that led to me pulling for his second anniversary card when I started being able to wish. I lost- and got a standard Artem, but then I won and got his card LMAO you can get a lot of wishes starting off. However I was doing the stories of the standard SRs, along with the main story and someone.. someone was warming up a lot to my heart.

Part 4: Falling

The boys were all very interesting and lovely characters! (The NPCs as well!!)

Artem, despite how he comes off at work, is actually just a shy guy who is bad at communication outside of work.

Vyn is actually a very interesting and well written character being very different than the rest of the cast due to his unique upbringing (honestly? His family feels like a cult, bro literally is running from a cult) and you learn more about his own psychology the more you get to know him.

Marius is literally just an artist who wants to chase the life he wants but is hindered by responsibility and his position.

And Luke- Luke stole my heart LOL

First off, he's a detective and I've already confessed online to having a thing for detectives by a drawing- that starting since I was a kid and I watched detective conan🧍‍♀️his introduction chapter.. was very interesting. It was literally the first episode, Rosa clearly knows and cares about this character right off the bat you're like hmm? What was this guy doing for 8 years? Why did he show up now after so long? Almost making him suspicious even. But he and Rosa seemed so close despite it all.

After that Luke had started showing up in the story here and there, a moment that made me go “ohh.. what a cool guy.” Was when after Marius’ case in episode 2, he shows up on a bike like “get in we outta here” and saved her from all the reporters.

His theme plays at this scene.. my heartttt

Revealing he'd been watching her and the case from afar and was literally waiting for her to get out and get her away.

I started reading the standard SRs, the first one I did was “Among the great blue” which honestly I recommend everyone doing again because I bet you all do not remember Luke saying this about Jellyfish

The card made me go *the rock eyebrow raise* GAHAH and at the time I was all innocent, not knowing anything about what Luke was going through, so when Rosa woke up and did not find him sleeping next to her (after she invaded where he's supposed to be sleeping lmao) and Luke was hunched over like “I'm fine I just accidentally swallowed gum lol” I actually believed him 💀 there were signs, but it would fly over a player's head until things are revealed ON THE FIRST FREAKING ACT OF HIS PERSONAL STORY and suddenly everything makes sense. Wow.

When I started personal story, I was just starting it because starting all of them is part of the “Rookie tasks” event you get when you start the game. Only to be punched in the gut immediately.

This is LITERALLY what you’re greeted with when you start his story 💀

I was starting to warm up to this guy and you're telling me.. he's sick and planning to leave us.. omg.

I got to choose one limited SR from the Rookie event, and I thought Luke looked adorable so I picked his card "A star in the palm" and the story.. omg that card, I'm weak. Everyone needs to see it, READ IT!

It’s illegal to be BOTH handsome and adorable smh

After that I started WANTING to do more Luke stories so I did the other standard SRs “Radiant Sunlight”, “Timely Rescue”, “Inner Sanctum”. They were all so good, my favorite being Inner Sanctum for how much it messed with my heart.

Dude is literally falling and he STILL makes sure to protect her.

I- was dying. I started pulling for Luke's anniversary card, starting to regret my choice going for Artem's. But he wouldn't come-

So I went back to main story because that's how you get the most schips, and guess what- I had reached episode 5…

Interlude: Luke Pearce’s Fear

The way episode 5 starts, Luke joins the NXX and Rosa is incredibly surprised seeing him there introducing himself as an agent from the NSB. Meanwhile Luke… is mad.

At first he can't believe Artem would even make her do this but she confirms to him that it was her decision, and then he spills the truth about his identity, and about where he's been the past 8 years. He apologizes, for lying, for planning to leave her again, for everything.

And then this happens.

You guys, this scene made me go straight up insane. You can tell how much he had cared and loved her for all these years, and how his biggest fear is literally the main character getting hurt or something happening to her. I felt so emotional over it, that after this act I started DESPERATELY pulling for his card and I finally- finally got it

Episode 5 BTW is one of my favorites in the main story, it is 3 parts because it's THAT good. It's when people will start seeing what Luke is as a character, what's beneath the surface you see in episode 1. (Also this episode introduced the best character: Hugh Moss AHAHH)

The parallel between Rosa, and Jasmine (the reporter whose case you investigate), was not lost on me. That reporter died trying to expose the truth which is exactly what Rosa has been trying to do. I think the entire chapter literally is showing you why Luke is so scared of her continuing the path she's in.

But you know what's the best part? He's freaking terrified, yet he never forces her to leave. He says this:

People keep saying Luke is a red flag that keeps trying to control Rosa and her actions and I swear my reaction is always “Are you even paying attention?” Luke never forces Rosa, he only shows he's against it, but he always says he will support her whatever decision she makes.

A similar more light-hearted situation is the story of his summer card “Iridescent Heartbeat” where Luke is afraid of Rosa getting hurt or doing things that are too much for her so he doesn't consider doing things such as Bungee jumping or rafting. But Rosa insists that she wants to do it and when she's visibly afraid later, Luke teases her a bit (LOL)

but then holds her close to him and soothes her saying there's nothing to be afraid of cause he's there.

He encourages her to do what she wants! And when she does indeed get hurt because the rope was too tight around her leg, he does NOT put the blame on her, but on himself-

Y'ALL HOW IS THIS GUY CONTROLLING??

(The scene after kinda got on my nerves cause Rosa got “angry” that he’s not his usual “cheerful self” like girl I love you but please- can’t you see how much you getting hurt affects him? She pretends that she’s angrier than she actually is making Luke apologize over and over like 💀 but tbh it was also funny, I don’t like how she handled it but it was funny lol)

When they go rafting Luke lets Rosa take the lead and he will follow her because she wanted to prove to him that he doesn't need to plan everything, however Rosa's plan backfires, things go horribly wrong and she can't figure out how to get the raft to go straight. Luke again, does not reprimand her in any way and only helps her so she can do what she wants. Later on even after they've fallen off the raft and onto the water he immediately holds her and takes her up to the surface so worried like “are you okay???” And despite all that, he says she's right. That she's always right and he will stop trying to plan and go more with the flow.

Luke never tried to control Rosa, he just loves her so much that he does not want to ever see her in pain or sad. He wants her to be the happiest girl in the world.

So who is Luke? Luke is the coolest mf, a guy that always jumps into action to help others with a heart so damn big that his own emotions slowly destroy him. He has felt an astronomical amount of guilt and regret since childhood- and has cared for and loved the main character just as long. The girl who is the reason he was able to keep his sanity, the girl who he always wanted to protect, and the girl who is the reason he is still here today.

I wholeheartedly believe that without Rosa in his life, Luke would've ended up completely different, if still alive at all.

Bonus: I remember people being like, the characters have gemstones that match their color in the proposal ring, so why does Luke have Ruby instead of something like Topaz? This is why.. the ruby in the ring represents Rosa (getting emotional over here omg) and honestly that ring is freaking insane because not only did he design and make it and its box by himself for years.. but a ruby is inside the key that Rosa gave to him.

Remember how Luke when you click on the key in visit says “I wear it like this to have it as close as possible to my heart” now look at the key.. if the Ruby is Rosa, and Luke’s heart is the key, do you see what he conveyed in that ring? Yea, I’m crying too.

Part 5: Obsession

I have a bit of an obsession problem, I've been obsessed with stories, games, or characters and that obsession can last years of my lifetime. And it's understandable, when you're going through terrible things in your life, you get attached to what makes you feel happy and you hold on to that feeling. That's what starts that obsession.

When I got the second anniversary Artem card I did the story immediately and it was.. it was alright. Artem wants to propose, but in his attempt to keep it all secret distances himself too much and gets Rosa worried, but then wow! He proposes with the help of his coworkers and happy ending + things get a bit spicy at the end.

But I felt like.. like I'm getting deja vu AHAHA like I've seen this kind of story a million times before. (Probably cause I did from watching a bunch of kdramas and having consumed a bunch of stories from a lot of media) It did not exactly get me to feel anything much, I'm sure it's different for Artem stans though having him propose after probably following his story for 2 years XD good on you guys have fun with your mans!

For me though who had just started, it did not have that much of an effect. After I got the Luke anniversary card I was excited and went into the story oh so innocently not knowing back then that Luke cards are honestly heart wrenching.

It led to me crying in bed while the sun was rising from the window as Luke says “That's because I love you.”

The way how he blocks the wind from her and lets it hit him instead at that exact moment is freaking PEAK writing.

That card showed me a lot more about this man who is so shackled by his own emotions and circumstance, that he's willing to sacrifice everything even his own wants and dreams for the one he loves.

Have you guys seen that one official art with Rosa posing as Themis? And the boys are represented by the objects around her? Luke is the sword, Artem is the balance, Vyn is the blindfold, and Marius is the snake by her leg.

It starts to make sense why Luke is holding onto her sword to the point of bleeding, he's bleeding yet he looks up to her in absolute devotion not caring for what happens to him and his eyes are only always on her. He’s willing to be her sword, to take all of the pain and protect her so she can be happy.

My life.. has not been what is considered “normal”. I'm not going to give my backstory in this post aHAHAH but at the time when I started Tears of Themis I was going through a very bad point in my life where I was close to have given up completely on my future and accepted my fate as it is. I had shut down completely, and I went back to becoming a shut-in which is honestly something I went through for four years before, it wasn't good.

When you reach that point, you start becoming apathetic to everything.

Luke however, somehow started making me start having emotions again. Reading and learning about this character was actually affecting me in a way I have not been affected in a long time. He felt.. real, like I could feel his emotions, his love, his despair.

And that's part of why I got so attached to him and he became my comfort, because of him, I started to feel human again.

AHA CRINGE. OK enough with the sadness.

But I'll never forget how much Luke and Tears of Themis helped me keep a grip during those hard months. I'm in a better place now, it's not good- but it's better, and I still just open this game and visit Luke to help me ground myself.

One time after a bad day I accidentally touched him and he said this, I went insane-

I think that says a lot about the state of my sanity AHAHAH

in the case that he was even stricter:

he’d prefer to be around you because he believes the best way he can make sure you stay out of trouble is to make sure you don’t get into any in the first place

I love Ordon (it just seems like such a chill and cozy village)

ALSO love how easy it is to interpret Link as being a sort of older brother figure to the Ordon kiddos. It’s just,, super cute? AND GHHH nice nice good thanks nintendo for giving me characters to care about/characters that I can imagine Link caring about

He didn’t sign up for any of this (tbh, none of the Links really signed up for this jshdjsd). But I mean like, dude was just going to take a trip to castle town, drop a gift off for the royal family, and come back. But haHA oopsies he did get to castle town eventually but definitely not the way he expected hsjdhsd

Love all of the TP character designs (ASHEI’S ARMOUR??? AOWOAOAOOAO)

Saving Zelda and all of Hyrule was important yea but thinking back maybe it was more like, the Ordonians and the kids were what was pushing Link to keep on going

I like the Resistance members :) Very video gamey of them to have one NPC assigned to each dungeon but hey!!! Kinda cool getting to see a little glimpse of each of em

Idk, it’s just fun to imagine Link popping into Telma’s bar after each dungeon and taking a little rest :) (or to celebrate? maybe just chat, idk, give this man some downtime!!)

Honestly it was just kind of nice that Link wasn’t entirely alone. I mean, I know Midna was there the whole time, but I am always for giving Link a big group of friends (see my love for hyrule warriors, age of calamity, and LU LMAO)

Hero’s shade, very very cool, kinda sad he died with regrets but HEY. He got to pass on his knowledge eventually

AND the connection to OoT?? AND assumed to be related by blood too????? GOOD SHIT

Ilia, I REALLY really wanted to like her (er, it’s not like I dislike her, she’s just,,, kinda there for me).

It definitely seems like Nintendo was pushing to make her the romantic interest, but GHHHHH they really threw that out of the window for me by having her lose her memories

I saw a text post a while ago that said it would have been interesting if Ilia was Link’s sister instead and YES!! That would have been cool too :0

Wish we got to know Zelda a little more

I feel like we barely know anything about her

Idk man, like I said earlier, I never really had any sort of drive to save Zelda during my playthroughs

She obviously knows Midna, so maybe if they gave us just a little bit more of that relationship I’d be more interested in her?

TP WORLD BUILDINGGGG

Botw has good world building too, but each race felt kinda,,, isolated? I absolutely love the different architecture and vibe each town has (and all the the weapons too) but ghhh yea everyone felt so separated. As far as I can remember, we don’t see tooo much of the races interacting with each other? Now that I’m typing that out maybe that’s to be expected because of the calamity but KLSJDKJFD ANYWAYS THIS IS ABOUT TP

The world feels nice and alive, love how populated everything is

Castle town I like castle town a lot, it feels dense and busy and I really like how you can’t talk to every NPC you see

Very cool very fun that we got to see the Gorons hanging out in multiple spots

kinda wish we got to see the Zoras a little more (I guess they are a bit limited since they need water but GHHHH the tp zoras are so prebby,,)

BUT HEY, I do remember seeing a zora or two hanging out in the hot springs around death mountain after beating the lakebed temple (I think, might have been a different dungeon)

but aaaa would have been nice to see them in at least a couple of other places. I think it would have really added to the “congrats Link!! You’re restoring peace to Hyrule” feeling you get from seeing the Gorons hanging out in Kakariko and Castle Town

Love how chill it is and how it’s kind of separate from Hyrule proper

They really do seem to be doing their own thing apart from the rest of Hyrule

Just kinda adds onto the “he’s just a regular dude minding his own business” kind of vibes I get from TP Link

Also I like Ordona :)

Do they worship you? Does anybody even know about the existence of the light spirits?? FUCK so many questions but ghhh I like how they broke the status quo a bit by throwing in a fourth spirit :)

I feel like this one is kinda weird but I like that voice sample they used in the light spirit music. It’s spooky and pretty at the same time :)

THE MUSIC??

Love Midna’s theme and how they referenced the dark world theme from ALttP (I remember trying to learn the dark world theme on the piano and doing the Leonardo DiCaprio point meme at the little jingle I recognized from Midna’s theme)

Hyrule field theme SLAPS.

Apparently references a couple of the other over-world themes from the previous zelda games (I got this from 8-bit Music theory’s video on the over-world zelda themes, he talks about TP at around 11:40 but def recommend watching the whole video if you’re into music analysis stuff)

So there’s this bit of the Hyrule Field theme, I don’t know the official name for it but I remember seeing somewhere it being called the “at an advantage theme” since yeah, you hear it during the boss music whenever you expose their weak points. FUCKINGGG LOVE THAT. Didn’t notice it during my first playthrough, but hearing it during my second was like a little easter egg for my ears every time :)

Midna’s lament is very pretty (and fun to play on the piano)

COURAGE THEME.

I didn’t care for it too much when I started playing the game but hearing it in ZREO’s arrangement of the Hyrule Field theme literally makes me turn into a puddle of emotions. Also hearing it around and of the Ordon kids (I think it plays after Link saves Colin) AAAAAAAAAAAAA

Orchestra piece #1 and #2 HOLY SHIT????????????????

Literally, the first time I listened to those I just,,,, plugged in my headphones, volume 100, layed on the floor/against my desk and silently vibed. I don’t know what the hell it is, but those two just fit so well with TP?? I still avoid listening to them nowadays cause if I DO I definitely will get overwhelmed with the “god I love this game so FUCKING MUCH” kind of feels.

the first time I heard him howling Zelda’s Lullaby I lost my shit because LKSJLDKSGLKJFSKG god that was.,, Bad. Anyways, hearing him howl some of the songs from OoT was cute :)

TP STAFF ROLL???

VERY GOOD. IT’s like 10 minutes long and GOD do I love every single second of it. It doesn’t have the same energy as the skyward sword staff roll or the orchestra pieces but GOD does it hit good??

Nice and calm after that big exciting adventure. Maybe it would have been more fun or emotional to have a higher energy piece but it was really nice getting to sit back and watch the camera fly around Hyrule. Seeing like, the Gorons and the Zoras having a good time, the kids returning to Ordon? GOOD SHIT.

and AAAAA that end, when you hear the main Zelda theme and see Link riding off out of Faron woods on Epona… good shit. It gets you thinking, where the hell is he going? What is he doing? Off ot do more adventuring? Going to help out the resistance or something? Going to help Zelda? Or maybe he’s trying to figure out a way to restore the mirror of twilight? Whoooo knows.

hhHHHHhhh it’s just that final reminder that YES!!! YOU JUST PLAYED A ZELDA GAME. JUST ANOTHER STORY APART OF THE WHOLE EPIC OF THE ZELDA SERIES AS A WHOLE

I also want to acknowledge the instrument/samples they used for all the twili stuff.

They’re all just so unique and contrast SO well with the rest of the TP OST. LIKE FUCK!! Anytime I hear the screech from the Twilit Kargarok? Sends a shiver down my spine. I associate those sounds SO strongly with the twili realm. (Like, the same way you associate the BSHEWW VVWWMMM sounds with light sabers)
