APRIL FOOL'S! Bet you weren't expecting a second upload today! It just didn't feel right to post Gazimon without its counterpart from the Ver. 5 v-pet, Gizamon! (And as you can probably guess, you wind up with Gizamon as your Rookie instead of Gazimon if you took bad care of Pagumon!)

Although it looks a lot like a spiky frog crossed with a rug, Gizamon is actually a semi-aquatic mammal! While it's perfectly adapted for swimming, Gizamon is only able to weakly hop on land, and is actually somewhat timid.... unless you encounter it in the water, where its personality does a complete 180 and it becomes rather aggressive! (And it definitely doesn't help that being underwater would probably help it use its signature attack... which is to curl up into a ball and spin like a buzzaw at its opponents!)

just curious, why oviraptorids for your silurians?

oh I definitely tossed around a few different ideas before the oviraptors, they just ended up feeling the most right to me. here's something that could almost pass for a design process:

The first shot at a silurian I did was this tuatara redesign of the original fish guys; i didn't really like it as it doesn't feel very evocative of the original to me (the fact that they're going for "black lagoon fish man" does not jell with how subsequent designs are lizard people, and I just couldn't marry those two things well here) (also, wow, I hadn't even rewatched surface (2005) at this point, goes to show how much of a throttle that's had on my design sensibilities for the past 20 years)

I think the second was this (sort of) prosauropod, after a friend informed me that the species is canonically meant to be prosauropods (sure jan). This wasn't a super serious design, I drew it in like 5 minutes for my friends (I did consider prosauropods seriously later on, but never drew any concepts past this)

When I was looking through my folders I found this drawing next to the last, where its just the humanoid silurians but with feathers. pretty sure this was just meant to be exactly what you'd expect a feathered design would have been on the bbc in 2011. I don't remember drawing this, but here it is for posterity.

the next (actually somewhat serious) attempt made them weird raptors; at this point I was actively trying to give them a flat, owl-like face so they were evocative of the humanoid designs in the show. I really wanted them to feel like generic spec bio dinosaur people of the 2020s (a tongue in cheek update to them being generic spec bio dinosaur people for the 1970s) and this kind of has that vibe, but I didn't think it looks great; something about it feels very non expressive and kind of forced to me. (The kea-inspired colors stuck around though.)

later I revamped that sketch and added a cassowary-esque crest (you can see the one in the frilly clothes here is just that first design with a crest tacked on).

I also doodled an oviraptorid version in the corner while I had dinosaurs with crests in mind; I ended up really liking how much that looked almost human in profile, so I ended up fleshing that out more:

This looked way more expressive and bespoke to me, and felt the most evocative of the original humanoid designs (somehow), while still looking like a real dinosaur species instead of a totally made up one

so yeah the oviraptors ended up sticking around at that point - they just clicked way more than any of the other attempts!

I really understand your take on sharing amigurumi patterns. I crocheted A LOT about 10 years ago, I crocheted Pokémon plushes, wrote the patterns, and sold both for a bit. But the patterns were just a PDF with plain text telling the reader the stitches for each round with a quick note partway through each piece to advise them when to start stuffing. Free patterns on like Ravelry from 2005-2015 are also like this, it’s my normal. Fast forward to last year. For the first time, I buy a pattern on Etsy. It’s FULL of photos and diagrams and custom fonts and intricate page borders and decorative doodles and excruciating detail, none of which I need. So now like, hooooly shit, if I ever start selling patterns again, do I have to get professional photography setup and a graphic designer??? To make 5 freakin bucks???????? My patterns might just have to remain a trade secret. 😬

Yeah I definitely feel like expectations for patterns have just risen unrealistically. I only freehand so I don't buy patterns or even look at them, but whenever I see people talking about them, there's always so much- neediness? about them. People will complain about FREE patterns if they don't have pictures or explain how to attach things or is formatted differently from what they're used to. FREE PATTERNS. The entitlement and lack of appreciation is just so jarring to me. And then the same group of people will act like they are so generous for throwing a dollar your way for such a pattern, maybe $3 if it just looks nice, maybe even $5 if they like you. Very often you'll see PACKS of patterns, sets of 3 or 5 or 10 or 12, each with, like you said, photos and diagrams and excruciating detail, and that's the only time people will think it's justified to pay up to $10 on them. It makes no sense to me. Personally all I need, and the way I write my patterns is mostly like this Fomantis one I put out years ago with basically just the colors needed, and the actual stitches needed in each row for each part. That's it.

And then when people would tell me they'd gladly pay for my patterns however they were formatted just because they liked the crochet- that is simply not true by and large. Most of the people saying that kind of stuff did not subscribe to my patreon when I had it, and I just made myself miserable putting out slightly more refined versions of my pattern notes. I don't like to think of it as keeping my patterns as a trade secret like you said, but it kind of feels that way sometimes because I just do not want to put any kind of effort into typing up a pattern that people won't even use and will only complain about.

I would want minimum $50 for typing up just one set of notes as is because it took me more than 5hr to crochet the thing and it'd take another hour to type up the rows and I hate it and people just are not here for that, not hearing it at all. "Well it's only for one Pokemon? You already have the notes written can't you just snap a pic and share those? [Some bullshit about potential passive income so the price should be pennies]." You cannot give give an inch or they will demand a mile. So no patterns of any kind at all ever for any reason.

Art done by my bestie @jester0jpeg !! We both made our own versions / lore of the postal dudes & postal series!!

Postal dude 1 with his son (little kid-postal dude 2! Who we call "the postal kid!").

We actually gave them names, too! (Sorry, they're not P names, but I could care less. Feel free to call them Postal dude and Postal kid if it bothers you that much).

PD1's name is Michael Toddhunter, and his son's (PD2) name is Aster Toddhunter (hehe get it? As in "disaster").

Preface: This takes place AFTER the first postal game. This is an AU of sorts, so just erase the ending of the game + a bunch of other things, and have Michael fuck off somewhere, nobody ever knowing his identity so he gets away with everything. That was a "TLDR" explanation of it. We could maybe explain this better on a different post in the future.

Anyways! Here's some lore we have about them:

Michael is the Command Sergeant Major for U.S army's RI Arsenal. Yes, he did serve in the army before going postal in the first game. Don't ask how he got up to that rank because god knows I don't know either.

He and Aster live in the Quad cities, Illinois, aka some fuck ass midwestern region of cities that only gets some attention from the John deere company that hogs the area. Fuck john deere.

Michael is a single dad. He somehow managed to win all custody over Aster. He doesn't talk about his ex-gf.

They live in a house that's next to a trailer park, so they're not exactly dirt fuckin' poor but they ain't buying branded food either. They're still trailer park trash without living directly in the trailer park though.

Michael has tried to give Aster some sense of normality (sorta) but Aster clearly is not cut out to be a normal child. He's very rowdy, violent, and bullies the neighborhood kids (if you get the reference, you're cool).

Michael calls Aster "My little wild thing" (reference to Aster's favorite book; where the wild things are).

When Aster was 5, for Christmas, Michael gifted him a black cat he bought for $10 at the pet store ( he didn't question it). Michael cruelly didn't think the cat would last long, but that cat might as well outlive him. Aster named the cat "Kostroma" and has shoved his dad's guns up it's ass and used it as a silencer to shoot at beer bottles in their backyard. Kostroma hasn't died (nor appears to be scarred or traumatized), no matter what Aster has put him through. He's like some weird immortal cat (who surprisedly loves Aster as much as Aster loves him). Michael and Aster don't question it.

Aster loves uncrustables. His addiction literaly is grape jelly uncrustables. He has to have one once a day or else he'll start wreaking havoc in the neighborhood.

Michael brings Aster to work sometimes (usually when Aster gets kicked out of school or is being too insufferable for the neighborhood). He can't help it, and it's not like anybody can give him shit for it.

That's all we'll share for now!! Hopefully we'll post more in the future!! Me and my bestie have been working on this since like late May, and we plan to continue to work on it >;). I'll leave ya'll with this doodle I did of Kostroma cat.

#1 What are the ages of the characters? (Exept for omar and Maggie )

#2 Is Clarice able to talk and just doesn't, or can she physically not for one reason or another?

#3 Do any of the characters have middle and/or last names?

#4 Can all the malkins turn into cats, or is it only cat sith?? (Google refuses to tell me)

#5 is Maggie's dad straight up just cathulu??

#6 about the doodles at the end of the book: does newt have an eight pack, or is it just how his scales look? Because I think the idea of that is so funny lol

#7 What are the freakish guys' names? (Only the ones who didn't have names)

#8 (i know this isn't how fraternitys work, but..) Does freakish let in women??? Because the one with the earrings looks like a woman

Clarice is nonverbal due to her past trauma. She eventually learns sign language, but that's after the events of the book :)

Omar's last name is Weisz, like his mother. Maggie's is probably Smith, as she was named by the government. We didn't really come up with last names for the others though, since they never used them in the Playroom.

#4 Can all the malkins turn into cats, or is it only cat sith?? (Google refuses to tell me) In our story Cat Sith is the only one who can turn into a cat. The others have the ability to teleport through shadows.

Hi folks! Figured I might as well make a pinned post for this blog. I'm SoulfulCryptid and I like to make art! Most of it has gone unposted as that has been practice for me and I'm still figuring out how I want to make my art look. But I have fun with it!

I really like Sonic the Hedgehog, among a few other things you might see me make art for eventually... like fanart of SCP 049, Undertale, The Amazing Digital Circus, etc. I'm not limited to just liking those things but I was scrolling through my art folders and saw quite a few drawings for those. I can be very picky about what I decide to post, but I'm trying to curb my perfectionism a bit.

Hopefully I draw some more Sonic stuff I would feel like posting on here. I have made a lot of attempts at getting a good style for it, but my muscle memory and structure could use some work. As it is... I hope to at least 5 people like the art I make. Thank you and have some more art!

Y'ALL I FINALLY FIGURED OUT JOHN DESIGN!!!! (<- lying. Will probably change it the next time I will draw him) ANYWAYS, I have thoughts about the choices I made with his design, so for rumbling, open up the cut. There are some additional doodles

So, I am a huge fan of "John changes design through the podcast", so here is a quick sketch of what each phase is, along with my additional thoughts) S1 (pre-episode 5) - John, who is still an Entity for now - a literal piece torn from KiY, with only eyes. Hides in Arthur's shadow

S1(post-episode 5) - John Doe, who is more aware of himself now and picked up a clock. It still less tangible form, more of a placeholder rather than something that he can call himself. Still hides in Arthur's shadow, but is now more proactive, in a way

S2 - John Doe, who is now aware that he is KiY and with that his reflection of himself changes. His cloak is bigger and he stands proudly behind Arthur. The way the cloak lays on the ground, it reminds of tentacles. While saying that he is no longer a KiY, some pieces still cling to him, now that he truly knows his nature.

S3-5 - John Doe, who is entirelly his own. Here it's becoming comlicated

The hood was taken by King in Yellow in episode 20, revealing how much John changed. He is no longer a piece, he is completely his own and King cannot fit him back.

The small crown appeared after S4 finale - he is now a true king of the Earth dimension, no longer fighting for control with Yellow. The crown is also something he renounces from his time in the Darkworld(and his kingdom there)

Clothes that were inspired by Arthur. I chose green colors because I remember one of the first posts I found on malevtumbler was a post about green being John's favorite color. I thought it was a really cool idea, so green clothes for John!

Small fireflies around John! This was something I took from my wip animatic of the last 10 minutes of episode 43. They appear after John comes back from Darkworld in S3, they don't produce any source of light but they act as an extension of John! They mostly just float around, but in S4 finale they come together to create a halo behind John's manifestation. In a way, they are remnants of what little of KiY power John has.

this is a really old wip, so there is a older version design of John that I had in mind, but the way Fireflights behave is still the same.

Some other additional thoughts I have

While I love John's creature designs, I also can't stop thinking about him taking things from Arthur. He took so much and Arthur kept giving more. In a way, his more humanoid form is a result of this exchange.

I am basing my Arthur design on my own cosplay that I did last year! With the exception of glasses and more curly hair. I didn't posted the cosplay here, but you can find it on Malevolent Cast twitter back somewhere in may.

My Hastur design is also more humanoid because I really love this idea of gods and mortals being essentially the same. Before separation, Hastur is a huge, abstract, creature-like god, but after separation, he is changed. And for a being who existed for billions of years, the mere idea of change is fucking terrifying. So along with John's changes, Hastur changes too, becoming similar to those he used to see as mere ants. Isn't that fun for him!

Yellow in S3 is basically John's design from S2, but with a little bit colder yellow color. In S4 he is back to his Hastur design BUT afterward, I have a small hc in my mind(and possibly au, comic to which you may never see, but regardless) that after the events of S4, Yellow managed to ditch Larson and now is restoring Carcosa AND along the way changing into this new version of Hastur. I even thought about giving him a new name, but I will keep it a secret for now. Here is a comparison of Yellow and John's designs

In the early mentioned AU, that happens post-canon, John design is also different, BUUUT that's spoilers and I do really wish to show more of this au. For now take those incoherent thoughts.

Hey it's the anon who asked the elpenor's question, i meant it like his age during the illiad so i'm sorry for not being very specific.

But also i wanna ask about your thoughts on Eurylochus in Epic the Musical and how he is portrayed in the musical, since you're very honest on some things you dislike in it, i am genuinely curious on how you think of the musical version of him.

I see. I find it interesting that you clarified after 5 different replies Anon! Hahahaha! XD But yes I suppose I should have seen that coming. Like I said it is not impossible. Many soldiers in the war we are expecting to be at least 15 16 or 17 years of age. It is possible but we already analized that before. I for some reason imagined him closer to his 20s when he joined but both hypothesis are possible. Elpenor is a blank page after all.

I strongly dislike the plot of the musical yes. But I had mentioned to another post of mine that ironically Eurylochus was much more interesting as character development even than Odysseus himself. I think since Eurylochus was not THAT much expanded in the Odyssey apart from his role as Odysseus's oposition and kinda his "nemesis" in one way given how it was Eurylochus the one to persuade the men to slay the cattle of Helios. His character development, given what we had from the Odyssey, is not bad. In fact I came across some of the deleated or rejected projects and I am glad they rejected them because they pictured Eurylochus almost like a villain and that, in opposition of that massively toned down Odysseus they went for in the beginning, would have been catastrophic in my opinion for the rest of the plot. Given what they used at the end was not bad at all.

I actually find it so ironic and sad for me at least, that Eurylochus was more Odyssey-accurate and respecting the character development than Odysseus himself.

His fear was a massive part of character development and given how some scholiasts placed Eurylochus to most of the difficult adventures of Odysseus, including the cave of Polyphemus, which I also tried to memorize in my own drafts for Odyssey:

it is no wonder that he was frightened, let's say in parts like Circe. That part was accurate enough and up until that point I was very satisified with the portrayal of Eurylochus despite the changes that had started to emerge to the Musical. I also liked his primary theme song "How Much Longer" given how accurately it seems to depict the character development he would logically have; Eurylochus has been through much more than the average person would so no wonder he was often tripping at the end. Now the way Eurylochus was treated overall in the musical was very good. I strongly disliked the context he was placed in aka the plot of the whole thing because I feel Eurylochus would have shone much brighter in a more accurate setting the way he was given voice and more lines in the musical than in the Odyssey. His character development was much more natural than any other character in the musical; Polites was massively stripped down as the "kind-hearted relief" given how he was a clean-slate character that was not as bad as others but still I think Polites would have shone better if he had more sides than just childish gladness and innocence. Then we have Odysseus who was massively toned down to be an almost "from white to black" character development; from an edge to another; he started off as innocent like "don't hurt this" or "don't kill that" (not counting Astyanax by the way. Mostly speak about the early drafts I saw plus his behavior with Polyphemus and all) to go to the other end

Eurylochus didn't follow that trap. He was depicted as a human character with doubts and worries, strengths and weaknesses. In fact characters like Eurylochus made me even more disappointed at the way the musical treated the source material because the existence of the first two sagas and Eurylochus probed that he can take liberties, he can create an engaging plot without screwing over the original material. Now Eurylochus in Mutiny song had me cringe but that is not because of the character itself but because of the plot. Ironically the character was very accurate in that scene but there the plot felt very rushed; it didn't show the true depth of their fear and hunger waiting for days and days in the island of Helios having their provisions done and all but the reasoning behind his attack seemed compatible to Eurylochus's character, if that makes sense.

So I disliked only some polarized moments (or the whole nickname thing with the random "Ody" placed there out of nowhere. Like he never called him that ever and that was placed there to appease to the modern audience with pet names and nicknames which not only were not a thing in antiquity but also Eurylochus never openly used that before but okay) but as a character development is not bad. It was accurate to the source material and given more voice to work with.

More Handplates/Vargas, this time obviously inspired by my holiday request 💕💖💞 I honestly rather like how calm Gaster seems whenever he’s in Edgar’s vicinity, he is a fairly unassuming human haha. Is it because he doesn’t laugh very often? Oh no that’s sad actually haha

I’m not done with Blank Slate Ch. 4 just yet - hopefully soon! - but this lineup stands out to me especially since I made it while rereading Handplates. Specifically after Gaster is pulled out of the Void - Gaster having to face the people he loves who have no memory of him really spoke to me in a Blank Slate way - the scenario of being able to completely start over and have never done anything to hurt your loved ones, at the expense of never having done anything to them, as far as they’re concerned, ah! It hurts so beautifully!! That’s one of the central themes I’m chasing so it was so cool to see in that context! Very inspiring ♥

Free will strikes again, these were some really fun doodles :3. I think Simon is allowed to be a little visual kei sometimes. Idk I just know he’d vibe with it. Explanations under a cut—

And also a couple unfinished doodles that were just intended to be rough pose/anatomy practice sketches, but ended up accidentally more detailed than intended 💀💀💀. It’s nothing graphic, but ⚠️slight artistic nudity warning⚠️ anyway in case d(>_< ).

Hehehe, this is based off of a photo from Malice Mizer live, it’s Simon in place of Mana and Fuma in place of Gackt. Very fun pose to draw!!! Especially cause it’s a pose with a whip and also cause idk why but I find poses with one or both arms up pretty easy to draw. And yeah yay, Fuma inclusion yippie :3!

I don’t have any other explanation for why this exists other than dresses are cool. So I made him one :D. The coord has a half caplet that connects to a shoulder paldron on the other shoulder by chain with a little cross. Under that there’s a blouse and skirt combo with patterns similar to his SQ armor and some rose thorn patterns around the ends of the sleeves and collar. Over that is a corset and under is a cage crinoline made to look like crosses peaking around the edge. Shoes carry outfit motifs like the roses on the bow tie and headdress and the lace throughout. Also, an eyepatch with cross on it because yeah, cute :3. I’d probably wear this if I had uh any skill in sewing at all (TwT ).

A not chibi version of the above outfit! Except probably without the crinoline with how the skirt fabric is sitting lol. Tbh I think Simon would probably be fine with this for a little bit and then get uncomfortable about having so many layers on. I don’t think he’d like tights at all 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀. Hmmm I’ll have to draw a version of it that’d be more comfortable for him hmm maybe tomorrow.

Simon facing off against his worst enemy: stairs! This one was practice drawing characters in backgrounds, since I’m so rusty at actually drawing those two things together (ToT ). I can draw a separate background fine, but the second I have to put someone in it I just completely forget what I’m doing XD.

This one is also a practice! He’s running up to the altar in Drac’s basement. The lighting was fun for this one, but I forgot to draw the whip in his hand 💀.

This one was an attempt at drawing a skeleton and keeping the same proportions in a drawing of someone (Simon) who is uh not a skeleton. Fun fact! It took me like 5 tries to get the skeleton to not just look like Papyrus Undertale cause holy heck do the skeletons from that game take a hold of some part of your art style and never let go 💀💀💀💀

CASTLEVANIA JUDGEMENT HAS HATS??? AS LIKE AN UNLOCKABLE?????????? So obviously I had to draw Simon (x2) with the bow options. Pink probs looks really nice with his hair tbh. And the striped bow was black and white so it fits with the Judgement design’s outfit. If I ever actually play this game again (I suck so bad at it), I’ll be trying to get these for the very important reason of Simon cute. :3

Ok now these two. The first one was a different attempt at that Mana pose, but a bigger scale and a bit less exaggerated. I ended up having to do a ton of edits to it cause I kept making things too big or too small lol. And the second one is just a couple dynamic posing practices. They’re also excuses to draw more arm up poses cause they’re fun X3. He was just supposed to have like a generic placeholder rectangle er um uh there, but some of the sketchy lines ended up looking like what’s supposed to be in that spot, so I just didn’t wanna risk these being on main tags out in the open 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀. Though, tbh, I’ve seen more explicit things on the tags so eh, better safe than sorry tho (- w - )

First vs last design

(heah I'm kinda just posting this here to say I'm not dead. Just working on somthing who take a bit more time that my usual doodles)

Goldie's very first design was.. Very different. Actually, the only thing that they got in commun are becoming angry easily and disliking long sleeves/pants.

Goldie number 1 looked waaaay more like me. I look nothing like current-Goldie, really.

Goldie Mc.Grumpkid was supposed (at the very VERY first design which was made in German a Monday after a small test) to be a normal kid living in Lazytown. She was very grumpy all the time, poiting all the time and almost never played game with the other and always wore grey and black. Almost all her sentences were suposed to start with "I hate" (a bit like Stingy who is always going "mine" "it's mine") and she was mostly yelling them when doing sport ("I HATE RUNNING!!!" was one of the only sentences I wrote down while making her)

She was supposed to be grumpy because all of the kids in lazytown (exept steph who isn't really born there) have a personality that reflect Robbie's. Ziggy love sugar, Pixel love building things, Trixie love tricking, etc... and since nobody was grumpy like him, I needed someone to be grumpy, to hate things and loath sport like he did.

Sportacus was supposed to help her learn that sport could be fun and that she should see the better half of everything exept of only bad things.

Now then I look back, I guess that her and Rini would have NEVER becamed friends if I kept her like that. Maybe I should do a check up of all her previous versions.. (Yeah, Goldie is like.. Goldie number 5 or something) (She is one of my only character who ever got more than one design)

She's 19, turning 20!

Still a She/They bisexual, just a little less chaotic one this time (I'm fucking lying she's worse than OG korey)

A bounty hunter! Works with Raine best :3 Occasionally acts or models along with Esther and Raine. Her main weapon is a hand gun! (Dear god who gave this girl a gun, oh no, oh fuck-)

Her friend, Jay, was also an actor and basically suggested her when one of the actors couldn't pull through. Also, Marco helped!

Her backstory is still the same as her OG one. Parents are still very neglectful and emotionally manipulative (how has CPS not been called yet??) And she still has face blindness and Hypomania.

She has her own house, and her little brother Noah lives with her since he gets the same treatment from their parents instead of being the golden child like in the current au

Also, Raine's uncle Bill adopted her, so her and Raine are cousins now (trust me bro)

And of course, Varen is also adopted into the Adiel family! (Give up @keyaartz I'm winning this custody battle-)

She still has a lot of scars, and they're still there because she was a curious dumbass

Has a golden retriever named Argos (greek mythology reference lmao)

Noah is about 15, and Ezra is 24. He's an intern at a hospital

Has a full arm snake tattoo, matching with Jay but i keep forgetting to draw it- (Jay is dead in this au too so ig not anymore-)

GB headcanons

First met Marco during one of her first bounty hunts, gave her a few clues on the person she's after, and became friends from there (she was chasing someone with a knife and he was, as any other person would be, very concerned)

Introduced her to Timothy and Bodie a month into the friendship, and all 4 have been friends since

Occasional cooking lessons with Bodie because it does not matter if this is still a different AU. Girlie is still shit at it. Jer sense of direction is a LITTLE bit better tho (Raine still has to make sure her ass does not get lost)

Timmy dog sits Argos when she's out on a bounty hunt as it can take more than a day to find the person

Very long phone calls with him while she's out, basically just narrating everything that's happening while she finds the person "Yeah so anyways, I started blasting both bullets and 1980s music to get the suspect out of the house." -Korey, probably

Still haven't decided if I want Timmy and Korey to have crushes on each other or just be REALLY good friends.

Also, instead of pining on Sparky in silence like OG Korey did, she actually got into a relationship with her! Though it lasted 7 months before breaking up due to...'family' business and rivalries

When Timmy was kidnapped by Circe's hunters, she was called by Bodie to retrieve him at all costs, but then BAM! a portal opens, and there's like 2 different versions of the boys and 2 more bugs! <- How Korey canonicaly met Raine and Esther (@asmrbrainrot ) and probably the rest of the bugs aswell!

The fanon version is that Bill saved Korey, and she met Raine from there! They were both 14 at the time, so they've been friends for 5 years! And then they both met Esther when they started training together! She was both of their mentors :3
