Free will strikes again, these were some really fun doodles :3. I think Simon is allowed to be a little visual kei sometimes. Idk I just know he’d vibe with it. Explanations under a cut—
And also a couple unfinished doodles that were just intended to be rough pose/anatomy practice sketches, but ended up accidentally more detailed than intended 💀💀💀. It’s nothing graphic, but ⚠️slight artistic nudity warning⚠️ anyway in case d(>_< ).
Hehehe, this is based off of a photo from Malice Mizer live, it’s Simon in place of Mana and Fuma in place of Gackt. Very fun pose to draw!!! Especially cause it’s a pose with a whip and also cause idk why but I find poses with one or both arms up pretty easy to draw. And yeah yay, Fuma inclusion yippie :3!
I don’t have any other explanation for why this exists other than dresses are cool. So I made him one :D. The coord has a half caplet that connects to a shoulder paldron on the other shoulder by chain with a little cross. Under that there’s a blouse and skirt combo with patterns similar to his SQ armor and some rose thorn patterns around the ends of the sleeves and collar. Over that is a corset and under is a cage crinoline made to look like crosses peaking around the edge. Shoes carry outfit motifs like the roses on the bow tie and headdress and the lace throughout. Also, an eyepatch with cross on it because yeah, cute :3. I’d probably wear this if I had uh any skill in sewing at all (TwT ).
A not chibi version of the above outfit! Except probably without the crinoline with how the skirt fabric is sitting lol. Tbh I think Simon would probably be fine with this for a little bit and then get uncomfortable about having so many layers on. I don’t think he’d like tights at all 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀. Hmmm I’ll have to draw a version of it that’d be more comfortable for him hmm maybe tomorrow.
Another Simon holding Dracula’s heart artwork. Shout out to how this guy just carries this thing around for so long lol.
Simon facing off against his worst enemy: stairs! This one was practice drawing characters in backgrounds, since I’m so rusty at actually drawing those two things together (ToT ). I can draw a separate background fine, but the second I have to put someone in it I just completely forget what I’m doing XD.
This one is also a practice! He’s running up to the altar in Drac’s basement. The lighting was fun for this one, but I forgot to draw the whip in his hand 💀.
This one was an attempt at drawing a skeleton and keeping the same proportions in a drawing of someone (Simon) who is uh not a skeleton. Fun fact! It took me like 5 tries to get the skeleton to not just look like Papyrus Undertale cause holy heck do the skeletons from that game take a hold of some part of your art style and never let go 💀💀💀💀
CASTLEVANIA JUDGEMENT HAS HATS??? AS LIKE AN UNLOCKABLE?????????? So obviously I had to draw Simon (x2) with the bow options. Pink probs looks really nice with his hair tbh. And the striped bow was black and white so it fits with the Judgement design’s outfit. If I ever actually play this game again (I suck so bad at it), I’ll be trying to get these for the very important reason of Simon cute. :3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ok now these two. The first one was a different attempt at that Mana pose, but a bigger scale and a bit less exaggerated. I ended up having to do a ton of edits to it cause I kept making things too big or too small lol. And the second one is just a couple dynamic posing practices. They’re also excuses to draw more arm up poses cause they’re fun X3. He was just supposed to have like a generic placeholder rectangle er um uh there, but some of the sketchy lines ended up looking like what’s supposed to be in that spot, so I just didn’t wanna risk these being on main tags out in the open 💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀. Though, tbh, I’ve seen more explicit things on the tags so eh, better safe than sorry tho (- w - )

The Hunter and the two Bunnies
Day 3!! Yay! I won't lie I was super excited for this one so I hope you guys like it too!
Warnings: heavy nsfw, fem!Reader and Graves are bunny hybrids, Simon is a hunter, mentions of murder and gore but not much at all, Simon is a possessive and obsessive man, it's implied that both reader and Graves didn't have much choice to stay with him at first but it's really up to you ^^
Autumn was near, it was clear as day. The leaves started turning all sorts of oranges, reds, yellows and started to fall, the warm summer days turned to cool and bleak weather with a chilling howling wind and cold rain hammering against the wooden roof of Simon's cabin. Despite the bleak and unforgiving weather outside, the inside of the wooden house is a picture of warmth, coziness and pleasure.
With the roaring fire in the hearth, the leftover uneaten honey-glazed ham, fresh bread and fruits and of course the two warm, glistening bodies of two lovely bunnies currently warming Simon's weary muscles.
"Ahh...Yeah, that's right...Use your hips more-Perfect, fuuuck...", came the low, growly voice from the scarred, blond man sitting in his well-loved, warm armchair as your pretty, soft body continued to move above him, your whines and moans like music to his ears, your soft tits pressed tightly to his sweaty, hairy chest and all Ghost could do was let out a groan as he felt his swollen tip hit your cervix, potent cum leaking out and he could feel his balls tighten at the delicious fantasy of his sperm being right in your most intimate place, doing its job and breeding you with his baby.
"S-Simon please-it-it's too deep! Ah-! Si I feel it in my belly..." came your whined response as you gently ran your hand over your lower belly and pressed, both you and Simon moaning out at the intense, pleasurable feeling of him right there inside you and you couldn't help but tighten up, your cunt squeezing the large male like a vice making him let out a loud moan and thrust his hips up more roughly.
The wonderful, pleasurable scene was lazily watched by Philip, another bunny Ghost managed to catch last winter. The blonde male hybrid was laying on his back on one of the numerous fluffy furs in front of the fireplace, surrounded by more pelts and pillows arranged in the form of a nest. Philip continued to watch the display with a warm smile, happy that his mates both can feel all the pleasure in the world in this little cabin in the woods in the middle of nowhere, the three of you can calmly and safely mate and be happy, not to mention the possibility of making your small family a little bigger by next spring. The blonde couldn't help but wince at your high pitched whine as Simon let out a matching loud growl, he probably was right up against your cervix bruising it and making you sore for the next few days, and Philip had to lift hips own hips slightly, the achy feeling settling in his hips and he let out a quiet whine as he felt Ghost's cum leaking out of his hole and wetting his thighs but he quickly used his fingers and stuffed the precious semen back inside him, nothing could go to waste...
After finally cumming deep inside you with a triumphant roar, his balls squeezing and twitching along with his dick lodged deep inside, he held you close to his hot, bulky body and caressed your back and ass, gently palming at your floppy (H/c) ears and fluffy tail before finally gently lifting you up and putting you down into the prepared nest, Philip gratefully accepting you back into his strong arms and immediately getting to nuzzling and licking at your tear-stained cheeks, muttering something sweet making you giggle tiredly and nuzzle into the scruffy stubble on your mate's cheek.
Simon sat back in his armchair with a cigar and a glass of whiskey and just watched you in a comfortable silence, not even bothering to put any clothes back on, only throwing a warm, silvery wolf pelt over his shoulders. He was a proud man, not afraid to show his body to his loved ones, especially you and Phil, it made him happy to be able to shed everything and just let loose, not to mention that sooner than later both of you will recover and want to go for another round and any layer of clothing would be torn off anyway with your small, but sharp claws.
It's a good thing that Simon won't have to go out anywhere for the next two or so days; your supplies and pantry is overflowing with herbs, spices, dried meats, forest fruit and vegetables and anything else you'd ever want. It's also a good thing that he dealt with that pesky little visitor who wandered a little too close for him liking to his territory. Was the guy a lost tourist who wanted to just get back on the trail? Or was he a filthy little thief who wanted to steal his bunnies away...? Well it's doesn't matter now anyway, at least not to Ghost.
The guy's head was basically shot off with the military grade rifle Simon still kept from his military days and now he was probably dragged away by the neighbouring pack of wolves deeper into the dark forest. It will be just Simon's dirty little secret, after all it's no use for him trouble your pretty little bunny heads with something like that.
The rain continues to patter against the cabin, and everything fell silent once again.

By The Beach Merman Nanami X Reader pt.5
My Masterlist for more chapters THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT, I LOVE YOU ALL Frustration due to communication issues, Nanami SPEAKS HIS FIRST WORDS, mentions of drugs and alcohol (Y/N isn't doing them in this chapter though, so yay)
Now that they had both calmed down and they were seated on the couch, they simply stared at each other. "So....", Y/N spoke up, "My name is Y/L/N", She points at herself to try and emphasize what she meant, because he obviously didn't speak her language... The man tried to form words, a noise came out of his mouth but it was broken, his vocal cords were rusty. He continued to try to clear his throat and try again, after about 10 minutes he finally rumbles out a "Y/N", and boy, was she taken aback by how... hot he sounded. Nonono, focus. She pointed at him and asked "What's your name?", after a while he tried to sound out many things but ended with a broken up "Na-nami, Ken--to". Y/N repeated the name and he nodded. ~~~ They fell into a routine after that. Y/N would put on children's videos about the alphabet and sounding out letters and words, while Y/N would continue to make her influencer videos. She gifted Nanami a dictionary after he finally learned the alphabet and a few basic words and sentences. He was learning fast, but Y/N figured he didn't understand everything he said. Like, why would he call her pretty or say that he liked her? He must be confused... But she hoped he wasn't. She hoped this hot man, that she saved, liked her. She had gone out a few times to get him clothes as well, never quite getting his size right, but they did all fit. He had stayed in her guest room, sleeping there and educating there if he wasn't in the living room or at the kitchen bar. ~~~ It was one of those days, one hate comment too far and Y/N had enough. She marched over to the kitchen, passed a very startled Nanami who asked a shaky "Y/L/N?", before she stopped to stare at her liquor cabinet, and her meds next to it. She was on the verge of grabbing them when two big, warm hands grabbed her own. "Nanami?", she asked, not knowing what he was doing, but he was behind her, his warm breath on her neck. "I can't let you have... those", he breathed out. "Why not?", Y/N asked, not understanding how he even knew what was going on. "When me... came here. You were... i-ill. And those were near you. They... bad.", Nanami fought out. Y/N was shocked.... he would remember such a seemingly small detail about their first... well. second encounter? ~~~ Rather than drinking and loosing herself, she chose to dance. She flipped on her speaker and Nanami watched, curious. The song that started playing was 'Feeling Good', By Nina Simone (The best version of the song, no one can change my mind) Birds flying high, you know how I feel Sun in the sky, you know how I feel Breeze driftin' on by, you know how I feel She took a few steps back, closer to the open area of the living room as the song began to take flight... It's a new life for me, yeah It's a new dawn, it's a new day It's a new life for me, ooh And I'm feeling good She began swaying and dancing to the music while Nanami stared, 'what is this?' he thought, but he was entranced not only by the new voice and sounds... but also by your movements. Dragonfly out in the sun, you know what I mean, don't you know? She began to sing with it too (That's why i switched lyric color), pointing at Nanami and inviting him to dance too. Nanami looked lost, he didn't know how to do what you were doing, hell, he finally just learned to run. The song soon finished with a "Why didn't you join me?", Y/N looked sad almost at his lack of dancing. He let out a sigh before apologizing and saying he didn't know what to do. "Dance the next one with me. please. You don't have to know how to do it. Let the music move you", she said to him before he finally agreed. Her face split into a beaming smile, hate comments forgotten, as she went to choose a song. Maybe something high energy... something to get him moving. Something... Groovy. ~~~ That's all for this one! Love you, you beautiful people ~~~ Tags @kiel-luvsripples

Solar Monsters Pt. 4 Epilogue (Old)
Tumblr media
(artwork is not mine) Once the Solar Opposites hide, the effects began to wear off as Terry, Jesse and Yumyulack started to transform back to normal.
Terry: breathing in and out as he turns back to normal with the cat device destroyed and fall off of his face Oh my God. It worked, the goddamn device is off my face! I finally got it off! Yes! No more fucking hairball! suddenly spits out a hairball Aw fucking sick.
Jesse: turns back to normal once her wings disappeared Yay! The pain in my back is more! gasp once she notices her dress is half torn and cover it Holy fuck!
Yumyulack: sighs once the steroids disappeared Well, I am sure am gonna miss those muscles. But at least I’m back to normal.
Terry: I’m so proud you two hugs the Replicants as they smiled
Giant Pupa: burps and turns back to normal
Terry: Hooray! We can hug the Pupa now!
Terry and the Replicants hug Pupa as the latter smiled. Suddenly, they noticed a worn out Korvo trying to turn back. Then, they realized they need to put on clothes.
Terry: Oh shit! Kids! We have to put on fully clothes! Quick!
After getting into their fixed clothes, Terry then notices Korvo finally beginning to transform back as Terry and the Replicants runs up to him with Terry carries Korvo’s clothes.
Jesse: touches Korvo’s arm with her hand for comfort Easy there Korvo.
Yumyulack: You’re gonna be just fine.
Ogre Korvo: breathing in and out calmly as he finally turned back to normal
Terry: Oh my God. Korvo. helps Korvo put his clothes on while the Replicants and Pupa look on worriedly It’ll be okay honey.
Korvo: finally back to normal as he breaths in and out It’s over. It’s finally fucking over. We did it fam. starts to feel faint as Terry catches him with the help from the kids The nightmare is finally fucking over.
Jesse: Group hug time guys. I love you guys.
Yumyulack: I love you guys too. But that’s just between us as a family.
Pupa: I love you guys. And I love Baby Shark!
Solar Opposites: D’aww.
Korvo: I love you all. Even though I hate to admit it.
Terry: Aw and I love you honey and you too kids. Come here.
The Solar Opposites gets in a tearful group hug as the sun rises while shedding tears of joy. Korvo and Terry shares a kiss while continuing to hug their children. Suddenly…
Angry Mob: Get the monsters! Yeah!
Principal Cooke: Wait, huh?
The angry mob stops and to their surprise and total shock, what stood the ogre alien, werecat alien, hulk alien, giant baby alien and demoness alien are now the family of five aliens hugging each other.
Kevin: Hey, what happened to the monsters?
Principal Cooke: They’re gone….. WE’RE SAVED! Mob: Yeah! Hooray! Fuck those monsters! Woo-hoo! They’re gone! We’re free! Yay! Fuck yeah!
Jesse: Huh? notices the mob What the fuck guys?
Mob: stops cheering Huh?
Jesse: Guys, those mysterious monsters saved us from Simone, who is now a fucking dead corpse of a woman. But, those monsters are misunderstood. These kinds of beasts have been tormented by a bunch of corrupted motherfuckers who were using it out of revenge. We shouldn’t misjudge monsters for what they are, we should just praise them for they are and try to learn to love them and-
Principal Cooke: Oh my God… what have we done… they’re just poor victims of an evil corrupted force who are trying to live normal lives until someone fucking turned them into ones!
Randall: What kind of people are we?!
The mob starts crying while Korvo and Terry comforts them.
Terry: It’s okay everybody. Those damn heroes are in a much better place now. Whenever they are.
Korvo: Hell yeah. Whoever those fucking monsters are, we’ll always remember them, as heroes.
The mob had a moment of silence while Korvo, Terry and Yumyulack smiled at Jesse.
Terry: That’s our sweet girl.
Korvo: We’re so proud of you and your brothers.
Yumyulack: Awesome speech sis.
Miss Frankie then came in a huff, now furious as she stomps towards the Solar Opposites.
Miss Frankie: WHAT? THE?! FFFFFUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK?!
Pupa: screams as he hides behind Korvo and Terry while Jesse picks him up
Yumyulack: Uh, you alright Miss Frankie?
Miss Frankie: No! I’m not fucking alright! You fucking aliens ruined everything! I was supposed to teach you guys a fucking lesson!
Principal Cooke: What?!
Mob: What?! Huh?!
Korvo: Uh, what the fuck are you talking about?
Miss Frankie: I was the one who did this to you guys! I was the crook who turned you into monsters, just to teach you guys a thing are too for fucking up our lives the Solar Opposites and Angry Mob gasp in horror I fucking hate you aliens so much! Ugh! To think?! The lies I told! The stuff I took to frame you two! points at Terry and Korvo
Principal: Uh, you’re scaring us man.
Miss Frankie: I even framed you with the stupid BBQ rib pig thing!
Miss Frankie gasp and covers her mouth as she notices the shock and horror from the Solars and the humans. The mob then summon their weapons along with the Solars as they surrounded her.
Miss Frankie: Uh, I was kidding? nervous laughing
The Solars look at each other, clearly disgusted by Frankie turning them into a giant savage beasts and framing them two seasons ago with the whole Peter the Pig thing. So, they got the perfect idea.
Three hours later, Miss Frankie is seen strapped in a rope on a chair while wearing a prisoner outfit with her goons.
Miss Frankie: Uh, what the fuck is happening?
Solar Opposites: showing up with the nets with the fire ants as a punishment PAYBACK FRANKIE!
The family put the nets on Frankie and her goons’ hands as they scream in pain with the crowd jeering at her for what she has done to them, their beloved town and the Solar Opposites.
Principal Cooke: crying while eating a carton of ice cream Why Frankie?
Jesse: There there Principal Cooke comforts Cooke things will be okay.
Miss Frankie: screeches in pain I’LL GET YOU FOR THIS, YOU FUCKING GODAMN ALIEN MONSTERS!
Terry and Korvo gave each other a toast while laughing slyly with a wine glass they drink. Later…
Terry: I am so glad things are back to normal, is on his bed at nighttime with Korvo now we don’t have to be under house arrest anymore now that we got the evidence to the police.
Korvo: clipping his nails while sighing Thank God, that’s fucking over. Things are finally back to normal. The Replicants and Pupa are fast asleep like little baby angels, you and I finally got rid of those awful devices and now we can finally relax. suddenly accidentally clipped the top his toe and roars like his ogre form
Terry: gasp and hugs Korvo It’s okay Korvy. I’m here, your Life-Terry’s got you.
Korvo: finally calming down Sorry Terry, don’t know what got into me.
Terry: It’s okay. Right now, we just need some sleep. kisses Korvo on the forehead affectionately Goodnight honey.
Korvo: Goodnight.
The two adults head to sleep while snuggling towards each other affectionately despite the ruined blanket covers shown from Terry’s werecat form’s teeth and claws and fur too as the credits role.
The End

Missing You
Tumblr media
Two years passed, the twins are causing havoc especially Athena. Simon has been away for a couple of months, due to new information that needs to be investigated. Allison missing him extremely once Simon gives a call to see how it is back at home.
Warnings: angst, mom!Allison, dad!Simon, fluff, and swearing
Little feet patter along the hallway of the cabin that Simon and Allison built. It was out in the middle of Delamere forest, away from all the people. Just like how I wanted it. The Hallmark Home. “Athena put that down!” I yelled running after her.
She giggles as she runs with the spatula she found. It was time to put kid locks on everything. They are old enough to find things, open, getting into no good. I finally caught up with her and gently grabbed the spatula out of her hands. Now Tommy, I picked her up and she giggles as she looks around.
Athena was the one up to no good, Simon told me that it was just like him when he was that age. The more and more she had been growing the more personality is closer to Simon. She looks more like me but acts like Simon. Tommy looked more like Simon but had the closer personality of mine. It was interesting to see.
I sighed as Tommy was coloring one of the walls. It was stressful the last couple of months, Simon was deployed back into the field with the 141, which was expected. Simon didn’t want to go, he was nervous on how everything would go without him. “I could give an excuse of some sort.” He said as I helped him grab some clothes.
It was in the middle of the night, kids were in bed, they said their goodbyes to daddy, and now it was packing time. I smiled. “Simon it’s not the first time you are leaving with them here.”
Simon sighed as he folded on of his army shirts. “That’s when they were baby babies. Now they walk. Run.”
I looked up at him while placing his boots next to him. He was concerned I would tell how he was looking down at me. Simon became a little softer when he came home from deployment. After being pregnant, with kids he is more soft. Concerned. Always. “Simon,” I whispered placing a hand on his cheek. “It’s okay, we have to do what we need to do.”
Simon leaned against my hand. “I know lovely.”
Like that he left and it’s been months, he would text but wasn’t able to call yet. I sighed and grabbed Tommy placing the spatula in my back pocket. “It’s time to eat kiddos.”
“Yay!” They both yelled as I walked into the kitchen placing them into high chairs.
It was pizza night, I grabbed pizza that I was able to cook at home. I didn’t want to cook a good meal today, today wasn’t that day. As I cut the pizza into slices, my phone goes off. As I cut the slices a bit and handed each plate to the kids, I grabbed my phone. My eyes went wide. Simon.
I quickly answered, putting the phone to my ear. “Allison love?” Tears pricked my eyes.
“Simon.” I whispered.
Simon hummed on the other side. “Hello lovely.”
“How are you?” I asked wiping the tears the threatened to leave.
“Mmm,” He said before clearing his throat. “Are the kids awake?” Ignoring the question.
I looked at the twins smiling, I placed the phone on speaker. “They are right here.”
I walked to them and their faces covered with pizza sauce. “Hey kiddos.”
“Daddy!” They screamed as their faces lit up.
“Daddy daddy mommy let us color on the wall!” Tommy yelled all excited.
“Oh did she now?” Simon said chuckling a bit.
“Yeah! I was playing military daddy!” Athena yelled which made you heart drop.
I didn’t know that is what she was doing earlier. “Oh yeah?” Simon said getting quiet.
“Yeah! Then we went from walks!” Athena said smiling big.
Tommy frowned and had tears. “When coming home daddy?”
The phone fell silent, my heart pounding. Sometimes these deployments take awhile. Which really never know when you would be coming home. “Uh,” Simon started before sighing. “I don’t know champ.”
Tommy huffed. “Okay.” Is all he said before continuing eating.
Athena looked at me. “Can’t you go get him mommy.”
I shook my head. “No he will be home soon.” I said softly.
It was quiet in the room besides the twins slowly digging more into the food. “Hey Allison,” Simon said breaking the silence. “Imma call later.”
“Okay love…” I started to say before hearing the dial tone.
I sighed and placed my phone on the table. “I’m done mommy.” Athena said looking at the phone.
“Okay,” I looked over at Tommy. “You done too baby?”
He just nodded his head as I grabbed both of them out. It was time to for bathes, helping them get ready for bed. “Mommy,” Tommy asked as I helped them get settled into their cribs. “Miss daddy.”
I nodded my head as I kissed his head. “I know, daddy misses you too.”
They cried as I shut the door, I didn’t know if it was cause of daddy or them not wanting to go to bed. It didn’t last long though, they passed out holding on to their blankets. I walked to the kitchen and started to clean when the phone went off again. I snatched my phone. “Simon.” I said first before he spoke.
It was quiet on the end. “Sorry I left.”
I half smiled as putting the dishes into the sink. “Baby you have nothing to be sorry about.” I answered turning the faucet on.
“It’s not fair for them,” He explained. “It’s not fair for you. It’s not…”
“Simon,” I cut him off turning around to lean against the counter. “You know this is what we live with until retirement. It’s okay,” I paused turning the faucet off. “There’s something more isn’t there?”
Simon paused not saying anything for a moment. “We lost a lot of men.” He finally said after a few minutes of silence. “It’s my own bloody fault.”
I sat there as he explained everything that happened. It made my heart sink when he finally fell silent once more before sighing. “I miss all three of ya.” He whispered.
I hummed and nodded before walking to the living room, sitting on the couch. “We do too.”
Simon went quiet once more. I knew it was hard for him to explain everything saying a bit how he felt. He doesn’t do it. Him hanging up fast was either two things, too much emotion happening and he didn’t know what to do, or the mission. “We are fine you know?” I said putting my legs up to my chest. “Yeah we miss you but it’s not like we are suffering.”
He didn’t say anything. “Colored walls huh?” His voice went deeper.
I laughed. “Yeah it wasn’t my idea, he decided that the wall was a canvas.”
“Sounds like Tommy.” Simon whispered going quiet. “Imma come home very soon baby girl.”
I smiled tears prickling. “Just come home safe.” I whispered.
Simon sighed. “Always.”
It was an hour before Simon had to say goodbye and to get back to the team. Soap joined in eventually talking all about how the bars there are a little odd. He asked about the kids and how him and Elma is going to visit soon. Elma was his girlfriend he met not too long ago, they met before they left on the deployment, she was spunky for sure. She loved the kids and she was a talker like him.
“Alright Fox we will see ya soon!” Soap yelled. “I’ll let ya say bye Lt.”
Once the door shut in the background it was silent. “I love you.” Simon whispered. “Very much.”
I smiled and held my legs. “Love you too. See you soon babe.”
The phone went silent as I took it off my ear looking at the time on the lock screen. It was a picture of Simon and the twins, they were holding his arms while being in the air. Smiles on every face. I sighed and placed it next to me looking out of the window. It was raining at this point, I got up and grabbed a blanket wrapping it around me.
I sat on the porch rocking in the swing that hung. I listened to the rain, thinking about how life as changed. I left the army to stay with the kids and Simon signed up again, we both agreed to it. It was the best for the both of us. Simon couldn’t leave just yet. Kat signed back up as well but she wasn’t on deployment with the rest of the team, under cover. I miss it but I loved my kids more.
I didn’t realize how long it was that I sat there. Now just thinking how much I missed Simon however, I knew he would get home, safe and sound.

Reveals?
Part 5 of Everything’s Gonna Be Okay || Masterlist
Word Count- 2615
AO3
Notes- Crazy how I’ve had this chapter drafted for the longest. I went through a spout of hating all of my writing so I wasn’t really motivated. I pretty much just wrote Alyanette until I felt confident enough to continue this so,, yay here we are a couple months later, sorry for the wait.
Begin
She’d never say it aloud, but she adored her partner. She admired him for his optimism, loyalty, and how stupidly brave he could be during battles.
As she detransformed on her bed her mind also wandered to Adrien. It did that a lot recently, flipping back and forth between both blonde boys. It confused her heart, but still she knew it belonged to Adrien, as it always had, as it always would. With his soft laughs and softer smiles, Marinette couldn’t believe she was lucky enough to have him.
She laid there, staring up dreamily toward the night sky and holding her hands to her heart until a shadow obscured her view.
She heard a small knock and smiled. Did this stray ever go home?
She opened her sky light and stuck her head out.
“To what do I owe the pleasure savior of Paris?”
In the dim moonlight she could see Chat’s eyes crinkle as he smiled.
“I request your company, and perhaps some sustenance?” He said in an overly formal tone as he kneeled before her.
She laughed before inviting him in.
As he climbed down into her room she could see the glow in his eyes. Something about him was different, he seemed happier.
Most of the times that he would come Marinette could see a lonely sad look break through when he thought she wasn’t looking. It’s not that she minded of course, if she could be a form of comfort for Chat like he was for her she’d take it in a heartbeat.
“I have some chocolate pastries here, although they aren’t too fresh.” She offered him as he crossed the room over to her desktop. She didn’t normally make a habit of keeping food in her room, but Tikki had been snacking. Hopefully she wouldn’t mind too much if Chat stole a few.
“Sounds great Marinette.” He called over his shoulder as he sat in her desk chair and sat in front of her computer.
“What do you say we find some two player game on here and- oh.” Chat stopped mid-sentence and Marinette turned around from grabbing a pastry to see what had happened.
Apparently she forgot to close out the folder of Adrien’s ad photos she had saved on her computer.
She turned bright red as she ran over to the computer and quickly closed it out.
“That’s uh... research! Yeah research on some Gabriel designs!” She lied, facing her back towards Chat so he wouldn’t notice the blush now spreading down her neck.
“Right, well if it were research on Gabriel designs, why only have pictures of Adrien? Other models wear Gabriel brand clothes.” She could practically hear the teasing smirk on his face.
She turned to wack him softly on the shoulder. “Keep on this topic and I’ll make you watch me eat the pastries right here!” She threatened.
Chat held his hands up in mock surrender. “Woah so sorry Adrien Agreste fan #1.” He teased again.
In response Marinette took a large bite out of the pastry she had planned to give him. She made sure to make a show of it, with accompanying sound effects and an exaggerated sigh after she finished chewing.
“Marinette you wound me!” Chat whined, crossing his arms in a dramatic childlike fashion.
Marinette stopped to think about how adorable his pout was before she laughed and went to grab the second pastry.
“Test me again and there will be no more sweets when you come over.” She bluffed.
Chat practically snatched the snack from her hands.
“Then I’d have no reason to come back.” He said through a stuffed mouth.
“No, I think you enjoy my company too much.” She gloated before pulling up a chair beside him. “Now what game did you want to play?”
They spent the next two hours playing fireboy and watergirl, where Marinette was shocked to find they made an incredible team.
——————————————
The akuma was hard, there was no denying that. The akuma called itself Obedience. Anyone struck with its ray was forced to do what ever it said, as though playing a game of simon says with dire stakes.
Marinette regretted staying up so late with Chat the night before. How he managed to have the amount of energy he did was astounding.
Chat had already used his cataclysm and Ladybug had used her lucky charm to set up a trap, all they had to do was lead Obedience into it.
Unfortunately, they needed to charge up before that, seeing as the beeping of their miraculous was giving its final warning before it was going to give up.
They landed on a distant building and de-transformed behind opposite sides of a pillar.
“M’lady do you have any extra snacks? Plagg ate up all his cheese before the battle and I didn’t have time to restock.” Chat called from the other side of the stone divider.
Ladybug giggled. “Looks like you need to learn how to control your friend Chaton. Here.” She reached out with a macaroon for Chat to take.
Her curiosity got the best of her and she couldn’t help but admire his hand as he reached over to take the sweet.
Soft and flawless, other than the messy blue nail polish that glowed in the sunlight. At first she didn’t think anything of it.
“Going for a new look kitty?” She asked lightheartedly as Tikki refueled.
“What? Oh you mean my nails. Well, I had someone paint them for me yesterday and I guess I distracted them too much and they made a mess.” He replied absentmindedly.
Wheels began to turn in Marinette’s brain, but unsure as to why, she didn’t try to make them stop.
“Oh, someone painted them? They look cute, did someone finally take in this alley cat?”
“For someone who hates puns, you really do use a lot of cat related metaphors toward me bug. And as a matter of fact I do, and she’s my girlfriend.” He bragged. “Plagg claws out!”
Ladybug transformed as well and was going to make a joke before a few dot connected before her. Messy blue nails. A girlfriend who painted them the day before. That nail polish looked all too familiar. She tried to push it down, but the dots were already connected.
Suddenly she flashed back to Chat Noir seeing her folder of Adrien photos last night and she felt sick to her stomach.
“Hey bug? You ready to kick this akuma Chat style?”
Ladybug snapped out of her trance. Even if everything that she just thought of was true, there was still an enemy to defeat. She could fully panic later.
“I think you mean Ladybug style. Now let’s go.”
They only just managed to get to the Eiffel Tower before they heard her again.
“Where are you Ladybug and Chat Noir? Don’t you know good children come when they’re called?” Obedience sang from a few streets over.
Chat strode over to lure her to the trap.
“Well maybe this kitty needs to be put in time out.” He replied leaning on his baton juvenilely.
“Oh no sweet boy, bad children must be taught better!” She pointed cane at him and an array of vegetables began to shoot out at him.
“Oh no! I’m afraid already perfectly healthy ma’am!” He leapt and dodged as he lead her straight to Ladybug.
As he turned the corner, there she stood, hands defiantly on her hips a couple of feet away. He scampered around a very large pool of a certain substance that was hardly noticeable unless you knew what you were looking for.
He took his side beside his lady as Obedience followed behind him.
“I’ve got you now tomcat!” Obedience turned the corner too fast and slipped straight into the street filled with a ridiculous amount of oil.
She screamed as she slid, and in her fall her cane flew from her fingers. It’s momentum led it straight toward them. Ladybug stopped it with the bottom of her shoe, and stomped on it with a satisfied grin.
Once she let the akuma go and threw the now empty bottle of oil to reverse the effects of the akuma, she turned to Chat.
“Pound it!” She said it with her usual confidence, but Chat could see something else lingering in her eyes.
But he was supposed to be practicing piano at the moment so he didn’t exactly have too much time to question her about it.
“Pound it.” He replied, touching his fist to hers.
————————-
“Tikki spots off.”
Ladybug de-transformed in her room and immediately began pacing.
“Crap crap crap crap! Tikki I accidentally figured out his identity! How could I be so careless as to look at his hands? Why did I care that much.”
Tikki sighed as she sat on Marinette’s desk. Sometimes it was best to let her get it all out.
“Well obviously I cared that much because Chat Noir is my recently established boyfriend! God he’s going to get such an ego boost when he finds out we’re dating.” Marinette threw herself face first into her chaise.
“So you’re going to tell him?” Tikki zipped over to hove beside her holder’s head.
There was a muffled response from the chair.
“What was that Marinette?”
“No, not yet. First I want to see how much he knows, if he knows anything at all.” Marinette rolled over on the chaise, laying as though she were at a therapists appointment.
“Tikki do you think this will effect our relationship? Will it put us in danger?”
Tikki’s little heart warmed.
“Marinette, you guys will be fine. If anything I think this would bring you closer together. If it puts you in any more danger you’ll handle it together, like you always do.” Tikki flew closer to hug Marinette’s cheek and Marinette let out a deep sigh as she brought a hand up to hug Tikki back.
“Thanks Tikki. You’re the best kwamii anyone could ask for.” Marinette said as the stress melted off of her.
“And you’re the best Ladybug I’ve ever known.” She replied warmly.
Of course things would work out. This was Chat she was talking about, Adrien. There wasn’t a problem he couldn’t help her solve, with or without the masks.
————————-
After going over Tikki’s advice for what felt like hours, Marinette came to a conclusion.
She would tell Chat Noir (Adrien?) who she was. It was only fair, considering she knew his identity. She wouldn’t have came to this on her own, so for the millionth time in her life she thanked Tikki.
But first, she needed to have a little fun. She noticed how Adrien would tease her lately for how flustered she got around him, so she figured the least she could do was use this moment to get revenge.
Too excited to sit still, she transformed to confront her boyfriend.
———————
Adrien was laying in bed reading manga when he heard a tapping at his window. He looked over in shock to see his lady waiting outside.
“Ladybug?” He nearly stuttered out.
She was glowing in the moonlight, backlit in all her glory. She had a playful grin in her lips that made Adrien uneasy.
“Hey pretty boy, mind if I pop in?” She asked casually, as if it were totally normal for Adrien Agreste to have a spotted heroine outside of his window.
He calmed his heart, remembering this was his dorky girlfriend and invited her in. He had to remember to act friendly, not like he would with Marinette, nor like he would as Chat Noir. This wouldn’t be easy.
“Your nails look cute.” She offered casually as she sauntered over to sit in his desk chair.
Adrien froze. Ladybug had noticed Chat Noir’s earlier too.
He quickly pushed that thought away. Marinette had been oblivious of his identity up until this point, even after the thousands of clues he’d managed to drop. He wasn’t exactly concerned anymore.
He decided to take advantage of the chance to compliment his girlfriend without her being able to completely reject it.
“Yeah my girlfriend painted them! She’s so cute and sweet and pretty.” He replied dreamily.
He could see Ladybug’s eyes widen and her blush grow. This was going great.
“Did you need something?” He asked innocently.
“I- uh-“ Adrien laughed, his girlfriend really wasn’t too different outside of the suit. Flustered and flushed, she was still Marinette.
Suddenly something in her eyes changed. One second they were wide and almost panicked, the next they were full of suspicion.
“You know don’t you!” She accused more than asked. She stalked over and jabbed a finger lightly into his chest.
Now it was Adrien’s turn to panic.
“Know what?” He asked, hoping to play dumb.
“You do!”
So much for feigning innocence. Instead he opted for begging for forgiveness.
“Marinette, i’m so sorry! It’s just I knew you’d panic if I told you when I found out and it’s not like I tried to figure out your identity! It’s just that you put so much effort into the whole kwamiibuster scheme-“
“You’ve known since kwamiibuster?!” She practically shouted.
“-and you looked so cute.” Adrien added still trying to lighten the blow. “I didn’t tell anyone and I’ve known for a while and nothing bad happened so I figured-“
Ladybug cut off his rambling with a kiss.
Adrien was stunned at first but then ultimately sighed into the kiss as he leaned into her touch. His arms looped around her waist as he pulled her close, hands tracing patterns into her spandex covered back.
He pulled pack slightly, noses still touching. He could feel her breath ghost his lips.
“So we’re okay?” He asked hopefully, eyes looking deep into hers as they caught their breath.
“Of course, minou. I just wish you would’ve told me before you saw that embarrassing folder on my computer.” She blushed.
“Oh? But then I wouldn’t be able to tease you about it. Tell me, which one was your favorite? Do you think the greens really brought out my eyes?”
“You’re the worst!” She exclaimed, attempting to pull from his embrace. Adrien’s arms held her fast in place.
“You love me!” He announced proudly as he pulled her into a tight hug. “Ladybug is dating Chat Noir!”
“Would you be quiet! I don’t want to have to explain to Nathalie why Paris’ superhero is standing in your room.” She giggled into Adrien’s shoulder.
“Ladybug is dating Chat Noir” He whispered, this time softer as he nuzzled her neck.
“Yes she is.” Ladybug sighed, resigning to Adrien’s touch.
“Now,” He released the girl as he turned and clasped his hands together. “de-transform. We’ve had plenty of date night in your room-“
“Those weren’t technically dates” She interjected.
“-And not enough in mine.” He gave her a pointed look as he continued. “Of course, since it’s my room, I have full say in what we watch.” He could hear Marinette’s pout as she de-transformed. “But I’ll take suggestions.”
Marinette crossed over to where Adrien was pacing in anticipation and threw her arms around his shoulders from behind. She placed a quick kiss on the base of his neck.
“New Girl again!” She said excitedly.
“No.”

Enjoy!
~v~
The first thing Naomi notices when she crosses the threshold to Ethan’s apartment is that it smells amazing. A delicious aroma wafts from the kitchen and she has to stop herself from drooling at the scent.
This is the second time this week that she’s been at his apartment, though this time Ethan promises that there will be no surprise interruptions. And this makes Naomi anxious, because the last time she was here, Ethan kissed her, multiple times, and promised that they’d talk. And with a little over a year of knowing the older attending under her belt, Naomi knows that Ethan Ramsey is a puzzle and he’s constantly pulling the rug out from under her feet. So her guard is up, despite wanting to be able to relax in his presence.
Ethan greets her at the door, out of his formal work clothes and now in a simple t-shirt and blue jeans.
“Naomi, hi.” His eyes sweep over her form, and he tries not to get fixated on the way her dark blue sweater hugs every curve on her body. “You look great.”
“Thank you.”
“It smells amazing in here.” Once she’s inside and her shoes are at the door, Naomi stands on her tiptoes, peering into the kitchen. She sees a huge skillet and a pot on the stove, but it gives her no answers. “Can I know what you’re cooking, or are you going for an element of surprise?”
“Chicken, sautéed in peppers, yellow rice and roasted asparagus. Do you have any objections about the menu?”
“It sounds delicious.” She stops at his kitchen island and takes a seat at one of the barstools.
“Do you want something to drink? I have pretty much everything.”
“What’s the best wine in your collection?” Naomi asks. “I’d like a glass of that.”
Ethan turns around and goes to rummage in his pantry. “I have a very expensive bottle that a patient gifted Naveen a while back. Her rich “boyfriend” owns a vineyard in Napa, and after we solved her case, she had him send Naveen quite a few bottles. He gave me one.”
He rinses out two glasses and pours the expensive Chardonnay.
“Air quotes around the word boyfriend leads me to assume he was her sugar daddy.”
“Her very married sugar daddy,” Ethan adds. “Splitting his time between Napa and New England.”
“Scandalous.”
“His vineyard makes excellent wine, though.”
Naomi takes a sip and instantly agrees with Ethan. The smooth liquid is delicious. “Mhmm, I can taste the vanilla.”
“You have excellent taste for a 27 year old.”
“It’s a cross I have to bear,” Naomi teases with a giggle. “Do you need any help with dinner?”
“No. You’re my guest, you just sit there and relax.”
She leans across the counter and watches as Ethan expertly chops up jalapeño peppers.
“I’m not used to being in a kitchen and not helping,” Naomi says with a sigh. “I used to practically study my mom and grandma growing up.”
“Oh, so you like to cook too?”
“I love it. I love food. Every Sunday after church, we’d go to my grandparents’ house for football and dinner.”
“What’s your favorite thing to cook?” Ethan asks. Naomi doesn’t talk much about her life before Edenbrook, and he’s curious.
“My grandma has a recipe for pot roast and garlic mashed potatoes that will make you cry.”
“Oh yeah? What’s the secret?”
“It’s for Valentine women only, mister. My mom didn’t get the recipe until she and my dad had been married for 10 years.”
“It’s that serious?”
Naomi nods. “Super serious. She’s really protective over her recipes, and she wants the rest of the family to be just as guarded. My uncle once suggested she write a cookbook, and she nearly tore him a new one.”
Ethan notes the sparkle in her eye as she talks about her family and he can’t help but to smile. “Okay, since you’re the expert, I’ll let you help me.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Yay! But first, I cannot cook in silence. We’re going to need some music.”
“In the living room, next to the window, I have a record player. Pick whatever you’d like.”
“A record player?” Naomi slides off the barstool and rushes to the living room. “You’re an old soul.”
“I like records. I think they’re cooler than CDs.”
Naomi browses through his selection of vinyls. He had a mixture of a lot of different artists and genres: Billie Holiday, Michael Jackson, Prince, David Bowie, Queen, James Brown, Nina Simone, The Beatles. There was even some classical music by Beethoven thrown into the collection.
She settles on Billie. “You have good taste, Doctor Ramsey.”
Soon she’s back in the kitchen, hands washed, sleeves rolled up, and hair pulled back. They settle into a comfortable routine. She minces garlic as Ethan gets the rice started.
Ethan enjoys her presence in his kitchen. There’s no tension in the air, the silence isn’t deafening, and Naomi moves around with ease and confidence, as if the space was made just for her. He chooses to ignore the way his pulse speeds up at the thought.
With two people helping, it doesn’t take long for dinner to be served. Ethan tops off their wine, fixes two plates, and moves them into his formal dining area.
“I had no idea this little dining area was tucked back here,” Naomi says, looking around. “Just how huge is this apartment? Does it have a second floor that I’m not aware of?”
Ethan rolls his eyes at her wide cracks. “No second floor. But it’s a 3 bedroom.”
“3? How did I not notice that?”
“Well the last time you were here we only stayed in the kitchen. And the time before that we–”
He stops himself before he can finish the sentence. The time before the last, they barely stayed in the living room for a few minutes before Ethan was dragging her into his bedroom.
Naomi looks down, her face burning at the memory. Thinking about their previous...encounter wasn’t her intention in the slightest. She groans to herself. This is what she gets for trying to make dumb small talk.
She pivots, not allowing them any more time to ruminate over the hook up. “Well you’ll have to give me a tour.”
“Deal.”
Naomi grabs her fork and digs into her food, taking a bite of her chicken. A low heat coats her taste buds, followed by the buttery flavor of the meat. A soft sigh passes her lips. “Okay, I know you love being a doctor, and you’re great at it, but I think you’d be an amazing chef.”
“Of course I’d be an amazing chef, I’m good at everything,” Ethan quips with a smirk.
“Your ego is unmatched.”
“But seriously, the food is good?”
His voice takes on an uncharacteristically low and shy tone. Naomi looks up at him and they lock eyes. He’s...nervous, she quickly surmises.
“The food is great, Ethan. If it wasn’t, you’d know.”
He smiles at her, relief coursing through his veins. Sure he knows he’s a good cook, but something about her praise and validation makes him feel like a teenager again.
“Good.”
“I might have you cook for me more often,” Naomi adds, lifting her wine glass to her lips and takes a sip. “How many other people get to say the great Ethan Ramsey made them dinner?”
“It’s just you,” Ethan replies. “And of course, you’re welcome over any time.”
“Don’t tempt me with a good time. I just might take you up on that offer.”
“Please do.”
The rest of their dinner goes by, the two of them embroiled in light conversation. Once dinner is done, Ethan instructs her to head to his living room while he puts the dishes in the sink. A few minutes later, he comes back with two slices of cake, and two more glasses of wine, red this time to complement the chocolate of their dessert.
“Ooh, I get dessert too? My, my, You’re really spoiling me tonight.”
“Don’t get used to it,” Ethan grumbles.
“Too late.” Naomi eagerly accepts her slice of cake. “Did you bake this?”
“Would you be impressed if I said yes?”
“I’d be very impressed.”
“But no, I can't take credit for this. There’s a bakery a few blocks away, and they make the best chocolate cake.”
“That’s a hefty endorsement coming from you.”
“Trust me, you’ll love it.”
Ethan sits down next to Naomi, leaving little room between the two of them, but just enough. At this distance, he can smell whatever sweet perfume she’s wearing, mixed with her shampoo—coconut scented, that much he knows for certain—it it’s effects on him are dizzy and intoxicating.
“How did your talk with your dad go the other day?” Naomi asks. Being questioned about his dad wasn’t what he was expecting, and it snaps him out of his daze.
“Huh?”
“How did your talk with Alan go?”
Ethan stops to seriously consider the question. His talk with his dad brought up a lot of feelings, good and bad, about a lot of different things. “I think he and I understand each other more. Love is still a pretty foreign concept to me, so I don’t think I’ll ever truly understand the depth of what he feels towards my mother, but I’m going to try to be more compassionate about them.”
“And I told him that him continuing to hold a flame for my mother fueled a lot of my anger,” Ethan continues. “It used to feel like he was willing to forgive her for hurting me. No matter what she did, all would be okay as long as she came back. Of course, he didn’t realize my perspective, and he apologized. We both realized that our views of my mom were going to be inherently different. And he agreed to stop trying to get me to talk to her.”
Naomi is glad to hear he made some peace with his dad. Alan seems like a sweet guy. “Do you think you’ll ever want to see her?”
A stony expression mars his features. “No. I’m not in a space to hear whatever bullshit excuse she spits out, nor do I want to hear any apologies. I’ve survived 25 years without her, I’ll survive 25 more.”
The energy in the room has taken a sharp turn. Naomi puts her plate down on the coffee table and takes Ethan’s hand in hers, her thumb running across his knuckles in a soothing manner. The simple gesture catches him off guard, and he looks at the younger woman.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to make you upset with my line of questioning.”
“I’m not upset with you,” Ethan assures her. She’s the last person he’d be upset with considering she’s been his rock throughout this entire ordeal. “And I shouldn’t be burdening you with this.”
“You’re not being a burden, Ethan.”
“Regardless, I didn’t invite you over here to be bogged down by my family drama.”
Naomi looks down at their still joined hands, and she swallows thickly. “Okay, did you invite me over here to talk about our kiss?”
The corner of his mouth quirks up at the question. “I’ve always admired your boldness, Rookie. You get straight to the point no matter what.”
“No point in beating around the bush,” Naomi says with a shrug. Reluctantly, she pulls her hand out of his and turns her body so they’re facing each other. “Look Ethan, you said that we needed boundaries, and outside of our kiss at Donahue’s a few months back, I’ve been trying my absolute hardest to be respectful. But now you’re sending me mixed signals. First when we went to stake out your mom a few weeks back, you held my hand the entire way back to Boston. And then you kissed me the other day, a few times. Now I’m at your apartment again. I need to know what we’re doing, because you’re blurring the lines.”
Ethan sighs. He feels like a selfish asshole, jerking her around like this. “Look, Naomi, I thought our relationship was going to be that of a mentor and mentee–and it is, but it’s become so much more than that. You are one of the most important people in my life. You are the one person I want to turn to when things feel crazy, whether it’s about work or my personal life.”
“And…?”
“I’m getting there, Rookie,” Ethan chuckles softly, and her stomach flips at her old nickname. “Look, all my life, I’ve only ever viewed things in black and white, and it was easy for me. But you came barreling into my life, and not only can I see shades of grey, but I see the entire color spectrum. You push me, you challenge me, you drive me absolutely insane.” Naomi laughs. “But it’s becoming increasingly harder to respect my self-imposed boundaries when it comes to you.”
“What are you saying?”
“I’m saying that I think it’s time I stop trying to hold myself back when it comes to you.”
Naomi’s too afraid to move. To breathe, even. What if this is some sort of dream? She’s going to wake up soon, in her own bedroom, alone, disappointed and full of self loathing. “So, what? Do you want to give us a try?”
“Yes, I want to give us a try. That is, if you still want to give me a chance. I know I probably don’t deserve one.”
Hearing those words is akin to a dam breaking inside of her. The air leaves her lungs all at once and her vision goes blurry with unshed tears.
Crying wasn’t the reaction he thought he was going to get from her. Ethan reaches out, gently swiping the pad of his thumb underneath her eye. “Naomi, what–”
She cuts him off, grabbing his face with both hands, crashing their lips together. He barely has time to toss his plate onto the table before she’s clamoring into his lap, straddling him.
This kiss feels so much like the one they shared a few nights ago. It’s frenzied, desperate, and filled with longing, but there’s an undercurrent of something else, something they haven’t felt before. Relief. Lightness.
Ethan’s tongue presses against her lips, silently asking for permission to deepen things. Naomi responds, opening her mouth to grant him entrance.
She clings to him, grabbing all that her hands can. His shoulders, his neck, his soft t-shirt. She needs some sort of permanence to ground her to the moment and let her know that this isn’t a dream. It’s real.
Ethan’s hands move from her hips, aiming higher until they’re under her sweater. His fingers burn, and he’s not sure if his brain is playing tricks on him because he’s consumed quite a few glasses of wine, or if the feel of her skin has that effect on him. Whatever the case, he welcomes the white-hot sensation, greedily searching for more surface area. Finally he settles on her back, his hands running around her spine, making her shudder.
They only pull apart because the need to breathe is much stronger than their desire to stay joined. But it doesn’t last long, as Naomi quickly kisses him again.
“I’ve missed you,” she confesses when she pulls away. Ethan notes the vulnerability in her eyes as she comes to rest her forehead against his. “I’ve missed this.”
“I’ve missed you too. You have no idea how much.”
She bites her lip in contemplation and Ethan swears it might be his favorite sight. “Please tell me this is real. Tell me you won’t wake up tomorrow and change your mind.”
Reluctantly, his hands drop from the small of her back. He uses one to tilt her chin up, forcing eye contact between the two. “I’m not going anywhere, Naomi.”
“Promise?”
“I promise.”
They kiss again, a softness filling them this time around. Her fingers pull at the hem of his shirt, tugging it, urging him to remove the piece of fabric.
“Naomi, stop,” Ethan orders gently.
She breaks the kiss, confused. “What?”
“We need to stop,” Ethan pants heavily. His heart is beating erratically against his rib cage, and if she keeps kissing him like this, and touching him like this, he’s going to lose all of his will.
“What’s wrong?”
“If we don’t stop now, I won’t be able to stop myself from escalating this and taking you into my bedroom.”
Naomi shivers against him. “Is that a promise?”
“You have no idea. But I want us to take this slow. I want to do this right.”
“Oh yeah?” He can tell by the twinkle in her eye that she’s going to tease me. “Are you going to court me, old man?”
Ethan wraps his arm around her waist, pulling her closer. She groans at the contact. “Call me old one more time, Rookie.”
Naomi is never one to back down from a challenge, but she doesn’t want to take things further knowing he wants to move slowly. “I think it’s sweet.”
“I just really don’t want to mess things up with you.”
“I don’t want to either.”
Naomi moves off of his lap, creating some distance. She smooths out her sweater, which is currently twisted around her midsection.
She checks the time on her watch. “It’s getting late, I think I should go.”
“You don’t have to leave.”
“I know, but I think it’d be better for both of us if we ended things here. I don’t want to test your restraint any more.”
“Thank you. Do you need me to take you home?”
“I’ll call an Uber.”
“I’ll walk you out.”
Naomi quickly calls for a car using the app. They find their shoes, enjoying the comfort of each other’s presence. They hold hands the entire way down, sharing shy smiles and glances.
The air between the two of them feels so different now. Like a weight has been lifted off of both their shoulders, they revel in the newfound lightness and change in their relationship.
They stand in front of his apartment complex as they wait for her ride to arrive, their hands still joined together. It’s late at night, but the city is still lit up, and all of the lights reflect off of Naomi as she stares at her surroundings. Ethan clears his throat, gaining her attention.
“So I was thinking, how about we go out this weekend,” he suggests. “There’s a new exhibit at the Museum of Fine Arts.”
“We agreed to date a few short minutes ago, and you already have a date planned.”
Ethan shrugs. “Well, I’ve had this evening planned out for the past 48 hours.”
Naomi smirks at him. “And you were just so sure I would say yes to you?”
“Call it a hunch.”
A car matching the description of Naomi’s rideshare pulls up along the curb. “This is my ride.”
Before she can open the car door, Ethan yanks her hand and spins her around. He kisses her again, his warm hand cupping her jaw. He pulls away quickly, leaving her breathless. “One more for the road. Call me when you get home, okay.”
“Of course.” Naomi smiles. “See you tomorrow, Ethan.”
“Goodnight, Naomi.”
She enters the car and Ethan watches as it drives off. He stands on the sidewalk for a long time after she’s gone, as if he’s still in a daze. The entire night feels surreal, and he almost can’t believe things worked out the way they did.
He knows one thing for sure: he’ll be forever grateful for his ability to cook.

I’m Sorry, Logan
Rating: PG-13
Trigger Warnings: Alcoholism, suicide, abusive family, homophobia (let me know if there are any more i missed!)
Word Count: 3,754
Fan-fiction or Original Work? Original Work
Story Type: Short Story
Notes: I wrote this a while back for a book that was going to be made, but didn’t end up happening. It was about suicide awareness and the different reasons for it. There was to be informative writing about the topic and cause and then a short story. This is the short story. Also, I spent a solid hour or two revamping and editing this for you all today since I couldn’t post much about my soon to be posted book. I hope you enjoy!
I wake up to my alarm blaring in my ears. My eyelids refuse to lift, the world a blurry mess.  I stumble into my uniform, the alarm still blaring.  Eventually, my patience runs out and I shut off the alarm. I snatch my backpack out from the corner of my room before hastily grabbing a granola bar and running to the bus parked outside.
I jump into the bus and walk down the aisle, all of the noise, ranging from random conversation to yelling and fighting, filling my ears and overwhelming my mind. I almost want to put my hands to my ears and drown out the noise, but someone’s bound to take offense. As I sit down in a seat next to the seemingly quietest kids, the horrible stench of what are probably 10-year-old raisins with a generous side of sweaty gym socks permeates my nose. I hate the bus. I decide to try spacing out.
Arriving at school, I go into the girl’s bathroom and wait until everyone leaves. I look really weird waiting for people to leave, and I don’t care. Actually, that’s not true. I definitely care.
Once everyone’s gone, I slip out of my catholic school skirt and into far more comfortable slacks. My mother had refused to get me anything but the “girl’s” uniform which consisted of a tight, long skirt and a blouse.
I hear the bell and run to class, bursting into the classroom and sliding into my seat directly after my name is called.
“Late.” I  groan and get out my homework. Why does it have to be me?
Vanessa and her friends snicker across the classroom. “Hey look, the plant’s here.”
My ears burned and I clenched my teeth. Those obnoxious jerks. I’m not a plant. “My name’s E-” My eyes widen as I catch myself. “-Ellie.”
Vanessa gasps dramatically and then says, “It can talk?!”
I don’t respond and give her what she wants, but it takes all of my strength not to. God, how am I so stupid? I don’t care if I’m using the Lord’s name in vain. I already let them know I was asexual! And if I let it slip? “My name’s Elliott.” I can only imagine the crap they’d do and say to me. What would I tell them? “Oh yeah, by the way, I’m nonbinary.” That would totally work.
I take deep breaths. I look at the teacher and then to the board, and suddenly, zoning becomes much easier. The lunch bell rings after a while and I walk towards the courtyard, finding one of the trees in the corner that no one ever sat by. It’s sad and droopy. I wish I couldn’t relate.
“Hey, Elliott!” I flinch at the noise. He smiles and sits down next to me.
I relax and say, “Hey, Logan. How was the class?”
“Class was crappy,” I crack a smile and when I do, he adds “as always. I love how you did your hair today. It’s pretty.”
My mouth goes dry and I fidget with my hands, forcing myself to smile. I shove my (sadly, homemade) peanut butter jelly sandwich into my mouth and then spend a ridiculous amount of time trying to swallow enough of it to even be able to chew.
We talk and smile, though he does most of the talking, and I force myself to listen, because he always has great things to say.
The lunch bell ringing is jarring and sudden enough to make me jump, but that isn’t saying much. I grin at Logan. “ I’ll see you tomorrow, man. Bye!”
He high fives me and starts walking towards his classroom. I walk towards mine. After Mr. Simon takes role call and I raise my hand and answer a question once, I figure I’m safe and promptly space out for the rest of the day.
The bell rings and right as I’m about to walk out of the door, I heard Mr. Simon say, “Eleanor, may I speak to you?” A collective ‘oooh’ sound comes from what’s remaining of the class, suggesting I’m in trouble, as I walk up to his desk.
“Can I help you, Mr. Simon?”
“Do you remember the dress code guidelines we went over at the beginning of the year?”
I start to panic. “Uh, yeah.”
“Then you remember that girls are to wear skirts and a blouse and that boys are to wear a button down and slacks.”
I mutter that I might remember something like that. “Why can’t I wear pants? I’m not wearing anything completely out of school uniform.”
“Yes, but we have a strict dress code and you, as a girl,” I flinch at the word girl. Of course, I can’t correct him. “are to wear a skirt. If you come to school tomorrow wearing pants, I’ll have you change back into a skirt, confiscate the pants, and then call your parents.”
I nod my head as if I understand, which I don’t, and then walk out of the classroom. I know he hates me, but I had no clue he would go to these lengths to get me in trouble. What the hell kind of person would go to the lengths of confiscating pants? None of my other teachers cared! He’s just an asshole!
I really don’t want to wear a skirt and that was only the first time I wore pants. On the other hand, I don’t want them to get taken away because I had to save up for months to get them and I really want to avoid having to deal with my parents.
As I walk home, I approach the entrance to the Golden Gate Bridge and smile. It’s so beautiful. Late afternoon fog is quite unusual this time of year and most people don’t like it, but I’m secretly happy about it.
I love walking along the bridge in the morning because it’s so easy to clear my mind. The wind can make my hair clothes flap wildly in the wind which is annoying, but the feeling of the cold wind can be comforting. The smell of saltwater in the air fills my nose as I approach one end of the bridge.  I start to cross the bridge, right into the fog. It’s peaceful and the moist air feels cool and nice against my skin.
After around 45 minutes, I come out on the other side of the bridge.
As I walk, I fantasize about laying down on the couch and not worrying about homework.  Not because I finished it, but because I’m planning on procrastinating.
I turn down my street and see my house. As I approach it, I realize that my house has been egged. I see a note on the door and run up and grab it. Get out of here, fag. You don’t belong here.
Vanessa, her boyfriend, and their horrible friends were right about the last part. I don’t belong here. I wish I could leave, but it isn’t exactly possible. I rip up the note and look up at the eggs that are covering my home.
I don’t want to clean this up… but my parents will ask why it happened if I don’t. Plus, they’ll make me do it anyway. I sigh as I trudge inside to grab a mop and some other cleaning supplies.
Opening the closet door, I grab everything I think I might need, which is a lot. I’ve never cleaned up eggs, so I’m just guessing.
I turn back to trudge outside again and start to wipe the door with a random rag that I found. Once I finish cleaning everything that I can reach from the ground, I place all my supplies on the roof overhang, awkwardly climbing onto it.
I get on my knees shakily and start to clean the roof. Damn, can these kids throw. It takes what seems like years, but is probably just a couple hours to finish cleaning the house.
Taking a risk, I jump from the overhang. I didn’t break any bones! Yay!  I grab all of the cleaning supplies and shove them back into the closet as I walk to my room. I get changed into some paint-stained jeans and a band t-shirt that my parents begrudgingly bought me for Christmas.
I walk back out and throw myself on the couch. I log into the only social media my parents let me have and open a chat with one of my best friends,  AchillesIsTheTrueGayIcon, also known as Bentley (or Ben). Sometimes I call him Benjamin just to annoy him.
Me: What’s up, Benjamin?
He responds almost immediately.
Ben: Asshole. But not much. You?
Me: You want to know who the real assholes are? The jerks from school who egged my house.
Ben: Oof. That sucks, dude.
Ben: Hey I gtg do homework. Talk later?
Me: Sure.
I turn off my phone and put it down. I hear my mom pull up so I sit up and take out my school binder. I place my homework from yesterday in front of me so I look like I’ve been doing homework since the second I got home.
As soon as I finish setting up my fake homework station, she walks in. “Hey, mom!” No. Too cheery. Calm down.
She smiles happily, “Hi, Ellie!” I cringe at my old name. At least she didn’t notice my overly excited greeting. “How was your day?” My little sister, Adia follows her in and then runs to our room.
I consider telling her that my day hasn’t been great, but decide against it. There are only two outcomes. The first is that she wouldn’t care and tell me to suck it up. The second is that it would just invoke a flurry of questions. Neither sounds particularly fun. “It was good. Yours?”
“It was fine. Busy as always,” I give her a knowing nod and then I see her smile slowly fade. “You didn’t make yourself dinner, did you?”
“No, not yet.” I smile sheepishly and she sighs loudly in annoyance.
“Alright. Dinner will be ready soon.”
I roll my eyes and she scoffs as she walks into the kitchen, tossing her bags onto a chair at the table. I hear Adia’s footsteps approaching before I see her jump onto the couch beside me.
“Hi, Adia. Did you have fun at daycare today?”
”Yeah! I played with Sammy!”
“That’s fun.” She smiles proudly as if having a friend is something to be proud of, which in my case, is true, but in her case, not so much. She has a lot of friends.
“I got to see all mommy’s friends, too! They’re so nice!”
I’m contemplating how untrue that is when I hear my mom start to reheat leftovers from last night. She tosses all of the food on three plates the same way she did her bag.
Wow. Soon really did mean soon.
My mom presses the power button on the remote and we pretend to watch a sitcom as we shovel food into our faces. Eventually, the episode ends. Too lazy to change the channel, we leave it alone and ignore it.
My mom is seated facing the screen and I watch her chuckle. I turn to the screen and freeze. It's a pride parade. All of a sudden I hear Adia’s excited voice.
“Ooooh! Rainbows!” I look at her and smile a little bit. She doesn’t even know. Sometimes I wish I don’t know what LGBTQ+ means. But that’s not really true.
“Those rainbows are for gay people.” She says gay in disgust as if it’s the worst thing you can be.
Mom continues, “You don’t want to be gay. Being gay is bad. You’ll go to hell if you’re gay.”
Now she just looked confused. “Why is it bad?”
“Because a man is supposed to marry a woman. That’s how God created us.” Mom says.
I finish eating my food as fast as I can to escape this horrible conversation and then interrupt. “Can I be excused? I’m getting tired.”
Before my mom can respond, my father swings open the front door.
This time, it’s not just me who’s frozen. He’s holding a beer bottle. His tie is loose. The top button of his shirt is unbuttoned and it’s stained.
What makes it most obvious that it’s happened again is his eyes. They’re huge. And not in the caring way.
He smiles goofily and stares at Adia and I. “No hug? No ‘Hi daddy!’ or ‘Thanks for working your ASS off every day to provide for us’?”
My first instinct is to pull Adia closer to me and step one foot in front of her, which I follow through on. My second instinct is to throw something at him so we can all run.
I hold back. Mom’s too close to dad. She would never be able to run away in time. He could hit her. Hurt her. Even kill her, if he wanted to. She’s not a good person, but she doesn’t deserve that.
“Go. To your rooms. Now.” I turn to my mom in utter surprise.
“But mom-“
“Now.” Her voice is sharp and cold, but filled with fear. The most confusing part is that I know the fear isn’t for herself. It’s for us.
I grab Adia and make sure she’s safe and locked in her room before running to mine. I press my ear against the door because I might be able to get an idea of what’s happening. I can’t hear anything.
I slump down and hang my head in my hands. Holy mother of God. What is wrong with my family? Why doesn’t she just kick him out when he’s hungover? Why don’t we leave?
I can't deal with this.
I'm sobbing now. I clench my teeth to trap the noise in my mouth.
Over the course of a few minutes, I draw myself up onto my knees and stand up, walking over to sit down at my desk. I start to scribble words that seem right on a paper. After a minute of writing, I reread it. It's not good enough. I crumple up the piece of paper and throw it in the trash.
I hug my knees tightly, trying not to make any form of sound. My breathing slows to its normal pace as I continue to sit there and I grab another piece of paper. I start to write once again, this time neater.
In the morning, I wake up the same way as yesterday. I put on my pants and even throw on a t-shirt instead of a blouse. I don’t care if Mr. Simon tries to force me to wear a skirt. I’m not taking anyone’s crap on my last day of school.
As I look in the cracked medicine cabinet mirror, all I can think of is my hair. I chew on the inside of my cheek for a minute while I go over all my options. I finally tug open the drawer and grip my father’s razor in my hand. There are lots of those weird plastic protectors that I think make sure you don’t accidentally shave off all your hair. I choose the one labeled number 4 at random and push it onto the top of the razor.
My heart starts to beat faster as I push it gently against my scalp, running it down my head in different places until my entire head is buzz cut. For the first time, I feel alive.
I peek out of the crack in the door and watch my mom walk into the kitchen. I run to my room, grabbing my backpack and binder.
I do this again and again until I’m out of the door.
I step into the bus, a huge grin slapped on my face. The other kids stare and I don’t even pay any attention to them. For the first time, I don’t care. I hear a kid yell “Get off, queer!” and I resist flipping him off… well, I try to resist flipping him off.
Taking my time, I walk into the classroom and sit next to Logan. He stares at me, dumbfounded. “What the hell did you do?” he whispers.
“I buzz cut my hair. I don’t even care anymore. I’ll deal with the consequences,”
Not.
“I just needed to do it,” I finish.
His face is contorted into a mixture of dumbfoundedness and horror as he slowly shakes his head. “Yeah. Alright. Tell me if you need anything, I guess.” He can’t stop staring at me and I honestly find it kind of funny.
A kid walks up to me sitting at what is most likely his desk.
“You’re sitting in my seat.”
“Yeah. I know. My seat’s over there. Feel free to take it.” He looks as if he’s about to say something more, but he turns to walk towards my actual seat.
Logan looks at me. I wonder if he knows something off. That taking some other kid’s seat isn’t something I’d normally do.
If he notices, he doesn’t mention it. “Anyways, how was your day yesterday?” He laughs and then adds, “Holy crap. That was such a mom question.”
I snort and answer, “Oh my god, you’re right. But it was good. I’m tired as hell, though.”
“No kidding.” I grin at him as the teacher looks at us again. I don’t really pay attention in math. I just talk to Logan. It’s relaxing to not have to care. To not have to worry about the consequences of my actions.
When we walk to lunch, I start complaining to Logan about how much of the day we have left.
“Uh, you know that we have an early day, right?”
“Oh! I do now.” He chuckles and smiles. I feel my cheeks warm up slightly at his smile. It’s a beautiful one. He starts to talk about some fandom of his and I try my hardest to pay attention.
I don’t really know what triggers this, although I have an idea, but I realize something. I’ve never kissed someone. Okay, this needs to change. I feel weird thinking about it, but I know exactly who I want to be my first and last kiss.
He’s about to start another thought, but I interrupt him. I don’t care. “You’re amazing.”
He looks at me as if I said the strangest thing he’s ever heard. “I mean it. You’re always there for me and you talk to me about things we like. I feel I don’t thank you enough for that.”
He still looks confused and a bit weirded out but he just smiles calmly. “Right back at you,” he responds as he fidgets with his hands and looks down at his shoes. I gesture for him to continue and, without hesitation, he does.
Logan sighs and packs up his lunch as the bell rings.
“Hey, will you walk home with me? I know you normally hang out here for a while but I want to talk to you.” I know this is a risk.
Just like before, he doesn’t say anything, but now I’m sure that we both know something’s wrong. “Yeah, of course.”
We grab our stuff and we start walking. He starts walking faster and gets ahead. This is not acceptable.
I break into a full sprint and he starts to chase me. My breath is short and raspy as I laugh all the air out of my lungs with him. When we reach the bridge, we’re both out of breath. We start panting like dogs on a hot day as we bend over and try to distribute our body weight evenly.
I stand up straight again and look at him. His face is glowing and his brown eyes are big and happy. He runs his hand through his slicked-back (with both gel and sweat) hair and adjusts his glasses. What a dork.
I know this is the moment. I move closer to him and press my lips against his own, my own brain not having a say in it.
The salty air blows through my hair and I feel on top of the world. After a couple of seconds, I step away. He looks confused. He wasn't okay with it. Oh, God. What have I done? I'm about to keep running down the bridge when he hugs me.
This time, I'm the unprepared one. After a minute, he lets go and slides his hand into mine. We continue to walk across the bridge. There's nothing we need to say and it feels amazing.
We don't have to explain ourselves. We can just walk quietly together. And it's not awkward.
My happiness fades away as I realize this is the first and last time I’ll be able to do this. I couldn’t change my mind if I wanted to. I already taped the note to his backpack when we left school.
Today was the best day of my life, but the rest of my life will be a living hell if I go back home right now. Today was a good day. One in a million.
This has to be the last time. Nothing good can last forever. Nothing can last forever.
We reach the other side. “Goodbye, Logan.”
He laughs. “You say it like this is the last time I’ll ever see you. I’m going to see you tomorrow.”
I feel my heart shatter a little bit more than it already had but I cover it up with a soft smile. “Yeah. It’s just goodbye for now.” He leans in and kisses my cheek and then twirls around like a ballerina. I choke back a sad laugh.
He starts to walk towards his house, but I just turn towards the water.
Tears spill silently down my face. I put my hand over my mouth to muffle my sobs. I want to run to Logan and scream his name, but I can’t. This has to be done alone.
I lift one foot onto the railing and then the other. This is it.
One last tear slips down my face as I whisper raspily, “I’m sorry, Logan.” I know it will be peaceful. A quiet ending. Not that I deserve one, but I guess it’s a favor to myself. I let go of the pole that I had been holding onto.
And then I’m falling.
Falling.
Falling.
Falling.
Gone.

Random doodles, a rare Richter moment too lol
Explanations and such:
Simon gaming and Richter is watching :). The text says “(Richter) Whatcha playin :3”, “(Simon) FUCK”, “(he got a Safe in Project Diva)”, “(Richter) Oh, I see.”. He was playing the song Gothic and Loneliness btw. On one of the harder modes. Almost perfected it 😔.
The top doodle is just Simon with sharp teeth, idk maybe they’re like left over from the curse or something lol. Bottom drawing is an attempt at drawing their Smash Bros outfits by memory since I haven’t in a long time.
Slime scooping videos will be the death of me I keep getting stuck watching like a ton of them and I don’t even know why 💀💀💀. So I drew Simon doing that cause uh yeah XD.
Text says “both overwhelmed”. Just imagine this is both of them after some long social event lol.
Rare Richter section of a page! It’s also a Mesmerizer reference 💀💀💀. I was gonna draw Alucard to compliment this, but I completely forgot and had already put other things on the page next to it so eeeehhhh. Richter’s hair is very fun, but I draw it differently every time. Then again I feel like it’s probably a texture where it kinda curls at a certain length and goes everywhere, so it works. I like to think that he’d always had it short enough that it didn’t curl before SotN and was surprised lol.
Yay drawing characters you like doing things you do part 2, Simon is drawing :3. He’d probably draw like some of the most violent and concerning but technically impressive imagery and then follow that up immediately with a page of cute animals and some character (idk I’ve already made him play Project Diva in this post let’s say Rin or Miku as an example lmao)
Text says “love this guy, the Richard”. Haha yeah, the Richer, Mr Richter Scale Belmont.
Random doodle of Simon wearing clothes cause I was listening to music and got the vibes. I don’t remember what song tho unfortunately (TwT).

Baz
“Baz,” Dev whines, draping himself all over my back like some annoying floppy blanket. “Please?”
“You being pathetic is certainly not going to change my mind,” I say, focusing intently on my own notes. We have finals in a week, dammit, and my cousin is more focused on this.
“But I need you there! To be my wingman!”
I raise an eyebrow at him. “What makes you think I would be a good wingman?”
“Okay, less of a wingman, more of a support.”
“And since when am I a good support either?”
Dev plops himself on my desk, pushing a pile of my perfectly stacked notes. I scowl deeply. Fucking hell, I’m going to strangle him, blood relation be damned.
“Please, Basil? I’ll get you a new bullet journal or something nerdy like that.” He flicks my stack of leather notebooks.
“Nice try, but no cigar, cousin.” I push my glasses further up my nose. “I have far too much studying to do.”
He groans and slumps further against the wall. “But Agatha is might be there! She’s finally single again after three bloody years. This could be my chance!”
I scoff. “Sure.”
Dev glares at me so hard his eyes become slits. “A man can dream.”
“A man can hallucinate, especially with the right help.”
He leans over, arching over my very important homework. “Y’know, I heard Simon is going to be there too.”
Oh. Fuck. I freeze up, heat rising to my face instantly. A grin spreads across Dev’s stupid face. Bloody hell, I wish I had never told him about my stupid crush. Him, Niall, and I were all drinking cheap beer and playing truth or dare. Apparently that beer was strong to get me to answer “who’s your biggest crush?” truthfully. It’s not something I’m proud of, crushing on my gorgeous idiot roommate. But it exists, and it makes me- he makes me very weak. Damn Dev for using it to his advantage.
“He hates parties,” I mumble.
“Yeah,” Dev leans closer, “but rumour has it, Penelope Bunce is dragging him there. Something about getting him to have fun since his breakup with Agatha. Maybe he could have fun with you.”
I immediately throw a notebook at his stupid face so I don’t have to see it. But it’s also to hide my stupid bright red cheeks. The rational part of my brain knows that’s a one in a billion shot. Snow hates me. He thinks I hate him. It can’t happen. But my lovesick side desperately wants to be hopeful. Maybe, just maybe...
“Fine,” I grumble.
Dev straightens up. “Huh?”
“Fine, I’ll go with you to the stupid party.”
Dev grins like a kid on Christmas. “Yay! Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, Baz!”
He throws his arms around my neck, bringing most of his weight along with him. I push him off me before I’m strangled. “Yeah, yeah, you owe me, arsehole.”
“I thought Snow’s presence was your payment.”
“No. I expect five mint Aero bars by no later than next week.”
“Ugh, fine. Small price.” He jumps off my desk, then gives me one last squeezy hug. “You’re my favourite cousin.”
“That’s not saying much, considering your other cousins are my demon siblings.”
“Yeah,” he chuckles. “Good point. Party starts at 8 in Fraternity basement. Meet me at my room at 7:45. Bring your game face and cologne. Maybe Snow will like the smell.”
He dashes off, but not before I chuck a pen at his stupid head. It just misses. Dammit. I sigh and hold my face, rubbing it up and down. What the fuck am I doing? This is idiotic. Snow hates my guts, I’ve made sure of that. I decided early on it was easier to just make him hate me from the start than confess my feelings and have him destroy my pathetic gay heart. Snow will always despise me. A party won’t change years of fights and snark and anger. No matter how much deep down I might want it to.
The door slams open, making me jolt. I don’t even need to look to know who it is.
“And a good afternoon to you too, Snow,” I say.
“Fuck off,” he growls like an animal. His uniform is in its usual disarray, tie loose and shirt rumpled. On anyone else I would call it sloppy. But on him, I find it ruggedly charming.
“Pleasant as always, I see.” I push up my glasses and turn back to my notebook, instead of looking at his stupid bronze curls and mesmerizing plain blue eyes.
“I don’t need your shit today, Baz.” I listen as he violently throws open his desk drawers. It sounds like a cabinet in a hurricane. Snow is always a force of nature, in both good and bad ways.
I sigh sarcastically. “Alright. Be as loud and pissy as you want, not like anyone else lives here. Don’t you have chemistry right now?”
He growls again and slams his drawer particularly loud. “Forgot my notes.”
“Ah, I see. Didn’t know you could take any.” The comment is out of my mouth before I can stop it. Sharp comments at Snow have become reflex at this point.
He gives the leg of my chair a good kick, rattling my whole body. I glare at him over my glasses, and he glares right back. Bloody hell, he’s so damn attractive. I look away before my face turns red. Luckily, Snow stomps away again, and I’m left in blissful peace.
Fucking hell, this party is going to be a nightmare.

Dev
I’m putting the finishing touches on my amazing hair when I hear the knock.
“That Baz?” Niall asks me, voice all nasally from his clogged nose. He’s on his bed, reading some football magazine while surrounded by a mountain of tissues.
“Probably,” I reply. “He’s willing to go to the party with me.”
Niall scoffs but it comes out as a cough. “Sorry I have allergies.”
“Excuses, excuses.” I waltz over to the door. “Baz is my true friend.” I fling the door open, and my hands immediately drop. “Oh my god.”
Baz raises one eyebrow at me. “What?”
“What the ever loving fuck are you wearing?!”
Baz looks down at his perfectly pressed navy slacks, buttoned to the collar white shirt, and polished black oxfords. “Have you gone blind, cousin? It’s a shirt and slacks.”
I groan and shake my head. “I can see it’s shirts and slacks, Baz. Why are you wearing it?”
“Because it’s good party attire.”
“Mother of God, Basil, you- I just-” I groan again, grabbing his wrist to haul him inside. “Get in here, we have to fix you.”
“Fix me? But-”
“You’re not wearing a suit to a high school party, end of story.” I push him down onto my bed by his shoulders. “First off, this goes.”
I reach out and ruffle his slicked back hair. He smacks my hand away. “Hey!”
I shove a finger in his face. “No one under forty slicks back their hair. And if they do, they’re an arsehole.” I hand him my wide tooth comb. “Comb it out. Now.”
“Why?” Baz hisses.
“Because you don’t want Snow to mistake you for a tight arse banker, right?”
Baz keeps frowning, but starts combing it out anyway. Good. “Next, you’re not wearing these.”
I take his glasses off his face. Baz gapes and tries to snatch the spectacles out of my hand, but I’m too fast. “Dev! Give those back!”
“No! They make you look even more nerdy, and right now we’re making you look cool.”
“But I need them to see!”
“No, you don’t. You only need them to see stuff that’s super far away. This basement is not that big, you’ll be fine. Honestly, I think you wear these to look smart.”
Baz frowns, but he doesn’t protest. He knows I’m right. I nod and go to Niall’s dresser, sorting the messy piles on top that should be in the drawers.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Niall asks furiously, but I can’t take him seriously with that high pitched clogged nose voice.
“Baz is going to borrow some of your clothes.”
“Why not your’s?”
“I’m a head shorter than Baz. You two are the same height.”
Baz scowls. “I am not wearing Niall’s clothes. He dresses like a wannabe club cruiser.”
Niall leans over and punches Baz in the arm, hard. Baz growls and punches back with just as much force. Seriously, are they still five?
“No,” I say, “Niall dresses like a normal teenage boy. And tonight you’re going to pretend you’re one too.”
I throw more clothes onto the floor, until I finally find something good. I grin ear to ear. Yes, this is perfect. I turn around and toss the clothing right at Baz’s face, hitting him with a small whack. “There. Wear these.”
Baz takes them off his face and gives them a once over. He looks positively disgusted. “Absolutely not.”
“No bitching. Put them on or we’re not going and you don’t get to gaze longingly at Simon from across the room.”
He looks indignant, and I’m worried he’s going to punch me. But instead he just huffs and stomps to the door, heading to our communal washroom I suppose. I lean to the side to shout at his back. “And you’re wearing Niall’s sneakers! Not those bloody oxfords!”
He flips me off before slamming the door hard. I chuckle and flop back on my bed.
“What would he do without us?” I sigh.
“I think he’s considering finding out,” Niall replies, then sneezes loudly into a tissue. He slowly brings it away. The whole kleenex is covered in snot.
“You’re disgusting” I say.
“Fuck off,” he grumbles. “I hope Baz ends up killing you.”
I smirk, laying down on my crossed arms. Baz won’t kill me. I’m going to have my chance with Agatha, he’ll have his chance with Snow, and we’ll both be happy. Everything will be great.

Simon
Everything sucks.
Why am I even here? I’m tired, I’m sweaty, I’m still getting over Agatha, and this party sucks. It’s just a bunch of my classmates in a dingy basement, totally pissed out of their minds, stumbling and bumping into each other. There’s not even any dancing. What’s a party without dancing?!
“I’m bored,” I groan, flopping against Penny, cheek pressed on her head. She sighs and pushes at my side.
“You’re bored because you refuse to leave this wall next to the snack table,” she replies. “Go mix and mingle, bloody well talk to someone other than me.”
“But everyone else doesn’t like me.”
“That’s not true, Si, lots of people like you.”
I scoff and cross my arms. Penny’s usually never wrong, but this time she is. People don’t like me, they’re fascinated by me; the weird orphan scholarship kid, the headmaster’s pet project. Only Penny and Agatha actually like me and know me. (Well, Agatha did like me.) And then there’s Baz, who just straight up hates me. Posh prick. Just because I wasn’t born with perfect hair and pretty eyes and a silver spoon shoved up my arse like him he thinks I’m lower than dirt. At least I don’t dress like a nerd. That’s one advantage I have over him, I guess.
“Are you going to leave any snacks for the rest of us?” Penny asks.
I look her in the eye as I shove a bunch of crisps in my mouth. “I’ve captured these crisps in the name of House Snow.”
Penny rolls her eyes and shakes her head. “I never should have introduced you to Game of Thrones.”
I smile wide, crisps filling my chipmunk cheeks. Penny laughs happily. Well, maybe being here isn’t too bad. I turn back to look out at the party, still grinning. But then my mouth immediately falls open, chip crumbs spilling on my shirt.
“Simon!” Penny yells. “What are you, five?!”
I dust the crumbs off my shirt, quickly chew and swallow, and point at exactly what I’m looking at. Or more precisely, who. “Penny, Penny, look. Tell me I’m not crazy, is that Baz?!”
Penny squints, pushing her glasses up her nose. I watch as her brown eyes go impossibly wide. “Holy shit, it is.”
“Holy shit,” I echo. Because...this is insane.
In the years I’ve known him, Baz has always dressed like a posh nerd. Uniform crisp and pristine, glasses down his nose like some snooty scholar, and raven hair gelled to oblivion. But tonight, he’s very different. For one, he’s not wearing his glasses, making his cheekbones look even sharper and deep sea grey eyes more visible. His hair isn’t gelled either. It falls in his face in a lazy wave. Most shocking of all, for the first time ever, he isn’t in businessman attire. He’s wearing a torso hugging charcoal grey v-neck, white trainers, and black skinny jeans. Since when does Baz wear black fucking skinny jeans?! And they’re like, really tight, showing off every toned muscle he’s gained from playing football. I can’t stop looking, holy shit.
“Simon? Hello? You still in there?” Penny is waving a hand in front of my face. I blink rapidly, snapping out of my jeans induced trance.
“Uh, yeah, Pen, I’m here. Oh my god, what is going on with Baz tonight?”
She shrugs, looking more like me than herself. “I don’t know. Maybe he’s decided to change up his style.”
“I seriously doubt that. He’s been wearing the same kind of clothes since we were all eleven, Pen.”
“People can change.”
“Not Baz.” I narrow my eyes, examining his strange outfit  with careful precision. “He’s plotting something.”
Penny sighs and rubs the bridge of her nose. “Simon, for the last time, Baz is not some vampire supervillain.”
I scoff, crossing my arms with a frown. “Says you. I just haven’t proven it yet.”
“Whatever, Si. How about you try to have fun tonight? That’s why we’re here, remember?”
I hear what Penny is saying, but I’m still watching Baz. He’s got his arms crossed, leaning on one foot, a frown on his face. But that last one could just be, y’know, him. Everything about his face is designed for pouting. Either way, he doesn’t look happy to be here, no more than me. He must not like that his plot isn’t working or something. I keep glaring at him as I shove M&M’s into my mouth.
“And you’re gone,” Penny sighs. “I do not get your issue with him.”
“You don’t live with him,” I grumble through my candy.
“No, but I feel like I know way too much about him because of you. Seriously you need to stop obsessing over him.”
Baz lifts a hand to tuck a piece of his raven hair behind his ear, showing off the pointy tip. I stroke my chin. What’s the purpose of that? Is he trying to distract me? Is he trying to pretend he’s all cute and innocent and not evil? Strange, very strange...
“Hey! We’re playing spin the bottle!” someone shouts. “Who wants in?”
I stay on my wall. I don’t have anything against spin the bottle, but I’m busy, and not really in the mood to kiss a few random classmates. Plus I haven’t seen Agatha yet, but she might not be here. I’d rather not run into her.
Suddenly, there’s a hand on my arm and someone is dragging me away. I look over at Penny, who has a determined expression on her face.
“Pen, where are we going?” I ask, fear filling my voice.
“You’re going to play spin the bottle.”
I inhale sharply. “What?! No way!”
“Yes way! You’re going to go have fun, dammit.”
“Is spin the bottle supposed to be fun? I thought it was just embarrassing.”
“I don’t know, I’ve never played. And I’m not going to play cause I’m in a serious relationship.”
“Great endorsement,” I mutter. I try to wriggle out of her grip, but it’s no use. She’s like a bloody pitbull. Eventually, she turns to face me, hand on her hip.
“Simon, you can’t mope and overthink about Baz against a wall the entire time. Just try this, see if you have fun. You haven’t had fun in ages. You can stop anytime, just try please.”
I sigh, body and ego deflating at once. “Fine, I’ll try.”
Penny smiles a bit. “Good.”
She lets go, but I keep walking towards the loose circle of tipsy British teens. I recognize most of them. Trixie, Keris, Rhys, Gareth, and Philippa. (Luckily no Agatha, that would be awkward.)
“Hey we’ll join!”
We all turn to the left. “Oh god,” I groan.
Baz glares at me as he sits next to Dev, crossing his arms over his chest. His eyes are deep sea grey daggers trying to stab me in the head. Why did he have to sit so close to me?! Luckily there’s a slightly drunk boy between us, wobbling back and forth even though he’s sitting. Hope he doesn’t get sick on any of us, especially if we’re supposed to be bloody kissing.
Oh fuck, what if I have to...no, no way. There’s very little chance that will happen. The universe can’t hate me that much.
Keris raises her hand. “I’ll go first.”
I lean my cheek on my palm. I really don’t care who goes, as long as it’s not me. Keris grabs the vodka bottle and gives it a good hard spin. I follow the spinning with my eyes, watching as the low orange light reflects off the glass. It’s kind of hypnotising, almost makes me want to sleep. Christ, I’m bored.
The bottle finally stops, and everyone either laughs or groans. It lands right on Trixie. I burst out in fits of giggles, clutching my stomach. Okay, maybe the universe sucks, but at least it has a sense of humour.
“You cheated!” Gareth declares.
Keris snorts and rolls her eyes. “Yeah, I can totally cheat at spinning a bottle, Gareth.”
“If there is you found a way!”
Keris shrugs. She turns to her left and kisses her girlfriend right on the mouth. The really drunk people whoop and cheer. Some of my more immature male classmates gasp or gape like fish. Penny just sighs behind me. This isn’t unusual for her. I’ve heard many rants from her about Trixie and Keris’ snogging in her room. This is probably mild for her.
The couple separates with a little pop. Both girls are grinning ear to ear. A few boys are still gaping, which is kind of gross. I glance over at Baz, to see if maybe he’s having any sort of reaction. But he’s still as stone faced as ever. He seems to be having even less fun than me. That’s one plus, I guess.
“My turn,” Trixie singsongs. She lays a delicate hand on the bottle and spins it. It lands a foot away from me, and for a second I think it landed on Baz. My heart rate jumps a beat. Holy shit, did that land on him? But when Dev raises his hand, I let out a long breath, feeling relieved for some reason.
“I don’t think you want to kiss me,” Dev chuckles, and everyone else chuckles along with him. Except Baz, because he’s a creature of darkness who is physically incapable of laughter.
“The cheek okay?” Trixie asks
Dev shrugs with a small smile. “I’ll take it.
Trixie leans forward on her knees and Dev follows. She plants a big wet kiss on his cheek. Rhys gives a sarcastic whoop and holler. Gareth gives his own over dramatic “oooooo” and pumps his fist. As she sits back, Trixie rolls her eyes, going back to slum;ing on Keris’ shoulder.
“You two are so mature,” she drawls.
Gareth and Rhys keep giggling and high five each other. I chuckle under my breath. It’s immature, but just a bit funny. Dev takes the bottle in hand and spins it hard. I’ve heard rumours he has a crush on Agatha, so whoever he gets he’ll probably be disappointed. I’m getting bored again, leaning on my hand. The bottle lands on Philippa. The cheering duo gets punched in the arm by Keris before they get out too many whoops or hollers.
Dev looks at the ground, scratching the back of his neck. “Uh, you wanna, Philippa?”
Philippa flicks her eyes over to me for a second. I’m not sure what she hopes to see. Honestly, I feel kinda bad for not being what she wants me to be for her. I look down, because I’m not sure what else to do.
“Sure,” Philippa replies.
I lift my head just enough to see what happens. Dev and Philippa crawl towards the centre of the circle. They both look very nervous, both lacking in experience or alcohol or probably both. He leans forward, eyes closed and lips pursed. She does the same and closes the distance. The kiss barely lasts half a second, but drunk people still cheer like it’s a Manchester FC game. Dev and Philippa scramble to their seats with bright red faces.
Philippa spins the bottle without saying anything. I’m barely following at this point. Pretty sure I’m going to leave after this and go stuff mint aero bars in my mouth. That’s the best breakup therapy in my opinion. I hope Baz hasn’t eaten my entire stash.
“Simon?” Penny taps my shoulder forcefully. “Simon, it landed on you.”
My head snaps up, only to see everyone staring at me, some looking very confused and concerned. I look down at the vodka bottle, the top pointing right at me. My eyes go wide. “Oh,” I squeak.
Philippa is blushing all the way down to her neck, with a small smile. She plays with the end of her hair. “Do you want to?” she asks.
I gulp, fiddling with my fingers. I’m nervous, but not really reluctant. Philippa is nice enough and I know she likes me. Maybe it’ll be nice, maybe I’ll feel something. What’s the harm?
“Uh, sure,” I say with a slightly forced smile.
Philippa’s smile gets a bit bigger. Fuck, am I leading her on? I don’t want to hurt her. This is a terrible idea, shit. She crawls forward, closing her eyes and sticking her face out. I shuffle towards her, squeeze my eyes shut, and kiss her.
It’s slightly longer than her kiss with Dev, but not by much. Long enough for me to realise her lips are smooth and smell like vanilla. Other than that I feel...nothing. It’s not that Philippa is bad. I just don’t feel a spark or anything close. I used to feel something with Agatha. Not a lot, but there was a stomach drop or a heart flutter at first. Not now. Part of me is scared I’ll never find anything like that again.
We separate, everyone is still making their obnoxious cheers. They’re laughing and smiling, so I try to smile back. The only person not so happy is, weirdly enough, Baz. He’s got his arms crossed and the corners of his mouth threaten to break out of his cheeks just so his scowl can get bigger. What’s got his knickers in a twist? Maybe he has a crush on Philippa. Well, pissing him off is a benefit I guess.
“Your turn, Simon,” Philippa says meekly, smiling and blushing at the ground.
“Um...” For a minute, I seriously consider standing up and running like the wind. But everyone is looking at me. I guess one more time couldn’t hurt. “Okay.”
I grab the bottle and give it a firm spin. But I guess I’m slightly on an angle, because it spins to the left like a wayward football. People scramble away to not get hit, giggling and clinging to their friends. I’m just focused on where it lands. The sooner it’s done, the sooner I can bow out gracefully and stuff my face with chocolate. It slows bit by bit, and finally, it stops. I snap my head up to see who it landed on. I’m met with a pair of panicked deep sea grey eyes.
Oh fuck.
Baz
That’s it, God hates me. There’s absolutely no question now. Of all the people he could’ve landed on, why did it have to be me?! This is an absolute disaster. Panic washes over my body like a nonstop tidal wave. Dev laughs and slaps me on the back, like this is some football goal at a match. I want to shout at him for being a numpty and run away to a very dark corner where I can just die.
But I’m frozen, staring at a gaping Simon Snow.
“Oh fuck,” a drunk guy slurs to his friend, trying to whisper but failing horribly, “don’t they like, hate each other?”
Snow’s face shifts from shock to a deep, deep scowl. He jumps to his feet. “Yeah, we do. So this is not happening.”
I manage to stifle my sigh of utter relief, but my silence is probably odd. So I cross my arms and stick my nose in the air. “Good. Like I would ever want to your chavy mouth on mine.”
Fuck, why did I add that last part? I hope I’m not blushing and giving myself away. Snow is turned around, ready to leave, but throws a fiery look at me over his shoulder. “Fuck off, Baz,” he snaps.
“Very eloquent, Snow. Forgot to mention your mouth is stupid too.” Except it’s not stupid. It’s full and soft looking and fucking beautiful, and I wish he wanted to kiss me with it.
Snow balls his fist and looms over me. “Well, your mouth is naturally made for frowning.”
I roll my eyes. “Oh, very nice. Your’s can’t form proper sentences.”
“At least I’m not spouting shit all the time!”
“Either follow the rules of the game or leave, Snow.”
Bunce rubs her nose under her glasses. “Simon, let’s just go.”
She takes his arm but he doesn’t listen to her for once, shaking her off and menacing over me more. “Oh, you want me to kiss you, Basilton?”
Oh fuck fuck fuck, what is wrong with me?! I didn’t drink anything. I think I’ve just lost my goddamn mind. I need to get out of here before I burst into flames from pure embarrassment.
I stand up, brushing off these ridiculous jeans. “Of course not. I would rather go back to our room than have my lips torn up by your dry ones.”
Simon growls like a caged animal. And it should not make me as excited as it does. “My lips are not dry.”
“Guys,” Gareth says slowly, “maybe you should just-”
“The constant bleeding and scabs would disagree.” Leave Snow, for the love of God, just storm off with Bunce, please.
“Oh yeah?” Snow leans forward over the drunk boy in between us. “Well, I bet if I kissed you, you would like it, arsehole.”
If I wasn’t blushing before, I certainly am now. I am literally going to explode on the spot any minute. I scoff and look away.
“Like hell I would.” Yes, I would, and it would be awful.
“Fuck you, you would!”
“Never!” I snap, digging my nails into my arm.
Snow growls once again. “I bet my goddamn sword history book you would!”
He’s leaning closer now, close enough I can smell his cheap soap. It makes my pulse quicken terribly, like the thump of a rabbit’s foot. “It would be easy winnings.”
“Says you!”
“Yes, and I’m right!”
“No you’re not!”
“I am!”
“Why don’t I prove it, huh?!”
“Fine, go ahead!”
I don’t even have time to process what I said. Because Simon Snow immediately grabs my collar and kisses me.
Holy fuck.
Simon
I just want to prove I’m right, and stop his stupid mouth. I hate when he throws insults at me. And now it seems for once I’ve actually shut him up. We’re both frozen in place, me shoving my mouth on his. I faintly hear everyone gasp around us. But I’m too focused on kissing Baz. Oh my fucking god, I’m kissing Baz!
He’s just standing like a statue while I hold his collar with a death grip and squeeze my eyes shut. He’s really not moving at all, not even a twitch. Is he surprised? That would make sense. Scared? I won’t hurt him, not right now. It’s just a kiss.
Baz’s lips are colder than Agatha’s. Softer too. Like silk sheets on a chilly night. It feels kind of nice, actually. When his top lip slightly slips between mine, I swear to god, my brain short circuits. Scratch kind of, this feels really nice. Sensation spreads from my mouth through my whole body. Why does this feel so much better than when I kissed Philippa? Or even better than Agatha? This is so confusing and amazing my brain is about to explode.
I don’t even know how long we spend with our lips pressed together. I tilt my head to the side a bit, just for a change of pace. And even though it’s crazy, I swear, for a moment Baz relaxes and pushes his mouth forward. Pushing his mouth closer to mine. Oh my god. Is...is Baz kissing me back? It feels so much better.
My hands slide around to the back of his neck, and Baz’s hair is soft of course. I think about grabbing it, but Baz suddenly pushes me away. It happens so out of the blue I stumble back in shock. I expect him to be angry, to punch me in the face or at least shout until he’s blue in the face. But Baz, he looks, scared. What’s there to be scared of? His eyes frantically dart around, chest heaving, until he looks back at me. I’ve never seen someone so frightened in my entire life.
Baz turns and bolts away, slamming the door behind him.
The entire room is silent for a long, awkward moment. You could hear a bloody pin drop it’s so quiet. I’m frozen, mouth hanging open. I can’t even process what just happened. So many things are going through my head right now, turning into a mushy goop of mismatched ideas and fears. I look at Penny.
“Pen, I- what just- I...” I can’t form words. My mouth and tongue feel so unbelievably useless, even more so than usual.
“Simon-” she starts. But before I hear what she says, I’m off running. I don’t know why I’m doing it, but I have to follow Baz. I just have to.
———————————————
It takes me way, way too long to find him. I search all throughout the Fraternity before I remember just how bloody dramatic Baz is. He wouldn’t hide away in the building, he’d go to where he always goes when he’s upset. Not his room or an alcove like a normal person. The Wavering Wood.
I run across the great lawn, wind whistling in my ears. The trees get larger and larger until I finally reach the edge. It’s dark out, so I have to navigate mostly by my other senses. I feel rough bark, sink into on wet dirt, hear the leaves crunch beneath my boots. I squint, trying to see in the darkness. And when I catch a glimpse of black shining in the moonlight, I dash towards it.
Baz is sitting under a tree, legs pulled up to his chest, face buried in his knees. Raven hair fans around him. I watch his back heave and shudder. Fuck. I don’t think he’s okay.
Slowly, I walk towards him, careful not to make too much noise. I don’t want to spook him, no more than he already is. But of course I step on a fucking branch, the snap ringing through the whole goddamn woods. Baz’s head bolts up. His eyes are wide and scared like a deer caught in the headlights. Tear streaks stain his cheeks. We keep staring at each other, until Baz looks back at the ground.
“What do you want, Snow?” he asks. He’s trying to be intimidating, but his voice is too strained to scare me.
“I, uh...” Fuck, what do I want? Why am I here? I’m not Baz’s friend. Quite the opposite, really. Yet it hurts to see him like this, so I start walking towards him, fiddling with my belt hole loops. “I wanted to see how you were doing. You um, ran out of there pretty fast...”
He snorts unkindly. “That wasn’t an invitation for you to follow, Snow.”
I groan, rolling my head back. “Man, I’m actually trying to be nice, there’s no need to be an arsehole.”
“Since when do you care about me?”
I shrug as I sit down on the grassy ground. I’m cross legged, facing Baz and his dagger stare. “You looked scared back the party, and then I see you here crying. I’d be worried no matter who you were.”
He rolls his eyes incredibly dramatically. “Of course, Mr. Hero. Any kittens that need to be saved from trees? Probably more pertinent than me.”
“You’re the one crying in the woods, so I think you take top priority.”
Baz tries to wipe away the tear marks, but they stay the same. “It’s nothing.”
“It’s not nothing, you’re obviously upset.”
“No matter what, it’s none of your business.”
I look down at the ground, playing with my shoelace. I know what I want to mean, but I’m not sure how to get the words right. Everything I’m considering seems dumb. Baz will throw anything stupid back in my face. Actually, stupid or not, he’ll throw it back. Might as well just go for it.
“I’m sorry,” I blurt out. I flick my eyes up, and Baz is gaping at me, his eyebrows are all scrunched together.
“You’re...sorry?” he says, genuinely confused for the first time in his life.
I rub the back of my neck. “Y-Yeah, I’m just, really sorry.”
“For what?”
What the hell does he mean? What else could I be talking about? I look right at him. “For like...kissing you when you didn’t want it. It was stupid and impulsive and really rude to you. You should never kiss anyone when they don’t want it. So I’m really sorry.”
“You...think I didn’t want you to kiss me?”
“Um, yeah. I thought you said I could, but then you ran out of there pretty fast afterwards. So I’m just super sorry, Baz.”
There’s a long stretch of silence, only filled by wind whistling through the branches. I keep looking at the ground. I’m not sure what Baz’s expression, and I’m not sure I want to see. I hope he’s forgiven me. I honestly don’t know what to do if he doesn’t.
“Thank you, for the apology,” he says slowly. “But you don’t have to feel bad.”
My head snaps up. Baz is looking away now. And in the pale moonlight, I can see a faint blush going all the way to his ears. I’m not worried anymore, just unbelievably confused. “W-What do you mean?”
Baz plays with the hem of his shirt. “I mean, I’m not upset that you kissed me without my permission, because you had it. I did say you could. We both made an impulsive decision.”
“Then why did you run off so fast?”
He twists the hem so hard I’m afraid he’s going to tear it. “Because, it’s just embarrassing to have your first kiss in front of your entire class, no matter who it is.”
My eyes go impossibly huge. I swear they become bigger than the moon. Holy fucking shit. “That back there was your first kiss?”
His blush gets worse, spreading down to his neck. Baz has always been so cool and calm. I’ve never seen him like this before. It’s strange, but kind of makes him seem more human in a way. He nods slowly.
“Oh,” I squeak. I inch closer, trying to comfort him, before remembering that I’m the last person Baz wants comfort from. Especially after I embarrassed him. God, I feel like a prat. “I-I’m still sorry then. I didn’t mean to take that away from you.”
“Stop saying sorry, Snow,” he sighs. “It’s really fine.”
“Really?”
“Yes. I was okay with it, because I li-” His lips press together before he says anything else. He plays with a loose strand of his hair, looking nervous and shy, still blushing so hard his entire face is red. The gears start turning in my head. I’m not as oblivious as everyone thinks I am. I can see things, they can just take a bit longer. And I think I see something very big now.
“Wait,” I say slowly, “do you...like me?”
Baz bites hard on his bottom lip and clenches his fists. A few more tears fall down his cheeks, but he doesn’t wipe them away, not even acknowledging they exist. My mouth drops open.
“For how long? Have you, uh, felt like that?”
He finally looks at me, his eyes wet and vulnerable. I’ve never seen him like this before, not ever. He doesn’t look like a villain, or a bully, or even an arsehole. He just looks like...a boy.
“A long time,” he whispers harshly, like he’s forcing the words off his tongue. “Almost since we met.”
And I thought I was done with surprises for the night. My heart is beating twofold, but I’m not sure with what emotion. Everything is so jumbled and twisted up right now. “O-Oh. Really?”
Baz rolls his eyes, though he looks more annoyed than genuinely angry. “Yes, really. You think I would make that up?”
“I don’t know! I’m not sure I know anything about you anymore...” I nervously scratch at the back of my wrist until the skin turns red. Nothing is processing, nothing makes sense. And one question pops up immediately. “If you feel that way, why have you always been such a wanker?”
Baz lets out a small snorty laugh, and immediately covers his mouth. But it’s kind of adorable. And I kind of want to hear it again. “Very well put question, Snow.”
“Are you gonna answer it or keep being a wanker?” I’m not angry, just tired really.
“Fine,” he sighs. He goes back to twisting his hair and shirt, chewing on the corner of his pouty lip. “I was a wanker because it was easier.”
“Easier?”
His face lowers even more, nearly behind his knees. “Easier for you to hate me, than for me to confess my stupid feelings and innevitably have you break my heart.”
I feel like I’ve been punched in the gut, almost offended that he thought I would be so cruel. But Baz looks even more hurt. I think that his feelings matter more right now. “Oh. Okay. You thought I would really hurt you?”
“You were straight as an arrow and already madly in love with Wellbelove when we were 11.” He traces the dirt with his toe, scuffing the pretty white trainer. “You would’ve hurt me even if you didn’t mean to.”
“Oh,” I squeak.
Baz scoffs with the corner of his mouth pulled up. “That’s your favourite sound tonight, Snow.”
I let out a sort of scoffing chuckle. He’s an arse, but funny. I’ve never noticed how funny he can be in his own biting way before. “Well, you keep dropping bombshells, it’s perfectly reasonable. Honestly you’re lucky I’m not exploding everywhere.”
He laughs, still small, but doesn’t cover his mouth. He doesn’t hide. “Yes, well, cleaning up bits of you off the forest floor wouldn’t be my favourite activity. It would be more fun than your snoring though.”
“I don’t snore!”
“Yes you do, I would know. You’re like an adorable little fog horn.”
We both laugh, starting small and getting louder and louder. Baz even begins to giggle, fucking giggle. He sounds like a thousand little silver bells. I shouldn’t be laughing. Usually I would be offended by his jabs. I’d yell and scream at him for being a dick. But he’s laughing, smiling, all with a playful glint in his deep grey eyes. I wonder, is this what Baz is really like? When he isn’t trying to make me hate him?
“I like this,” I blurt out. Baz stops laughing immediately. A confused furrow forms between his brows.
“Like what?” he asks cautiously.
“This, right now, what we’re doing. Being nice and honest.” I shuffle closer, knees nearly touching his. “I like this better than fighting.”
Baz’s pouty lips fall open slightly, just barely half an inch, and his eyebrows raise. I think that’s Baz’s equivalent of completely, utterly shocked. “Seriously?”
I grin as wide as I can. “Yeah, seriously. Do you, uh, like it too?”
I expect Baz to smile, to laugh, to be happy. But instead he looks scared. Even his hands are shaking. I reach forward, but Baz pulls away, wrapping his arms around himself. Another tear falls down his face but he quickly wipes it away.
“Why were you crying?” I ask quickly. “Was it just like, embarrassment?”
Baz slowly shakes his head, more black hair falling in his face in a lazy wave. “N-No, it’s just...this can’t be happening.”
“What do you mean?”
“You haven’t stopped hating me, that can’t change.”
His voice is so small and scared. I blink rapidly, tilting my head to the side. “Why not?”
He scoffs and shakes his head, staring at his own lap. “Because I’ve made your life hell for years! Because one stupid kiss and a few laughs can’t change things after so long.”
I move even closer. I can see every crevice in his face the moonlight hits, every sign of his tears. Oh. I think I get it, sorta. I kissed him, and Baz wanted it, but he was sad because he was sure it would never happen again. That’s a reasonable conclusion. At least, it was.
“Maybe it can’t change everything right away. But,” I reach forward and touch his wrist, just lightly, and when he doesn’t move away I stay there, “we could try, y’know. To change things.”
He doesn’t look up, but his brows wrinkle together again, and I find it unbearably adorable. “What are you saying, Snow?”
“I’m saying I want to be your boyfriend.” I say quickly before I lose my nerve. “I mean, I’m not a very great boyfriend, if my last relationship is any clue. But if you want this, I want this.”
I stare at the ground, too nervous to look at Baz’s face. I don’t let go of his wrist though, and he doesn’t move away, but it’s still silent again. Every passing second makes my anxiety build up and up like a shaken soda about to blow. Will he run away? He ran away before. I don’t want him to go, not again. I don’t want to lose him. (Fuck, that’s dramatic.)
“You’re an idiot,” Baz sighs, and it makes my breath hitch. “But you can have...this, if you want.”
My head snaps up so fast my neck hurts. Baz is finally looking at me, eyes soft and open. I’ve never seen him like that before. A grin spreads across my face. I probably look stupid but I couldn’t care less.
“I do,” I say, “I really do.”
He smiles softly. Slowly, he turns his hand around and fully holds mine. His skin is colder than most people’s and strangely rough for someone so posh. His calluses scratch perfectly against mine. It feels incredible, somehow so much better than holding anyone else’s hand. Just like that kiss.
“Hey, uh,” I nervously run my thumb over his tepid skin, “can I, um, maybe...kiss you again? Like in a nicer way?”
Baz chuckles, squeezing my hand. “Yes, you lovely moron, you may. If we’re going to date, you need to fix your gram-”
I get up on my knees and shut his cute smartarse mouth by pressing mine against it.
Baz
Bloody hell, I think I’ve died and gone to heaven. Because for the second time in one night, Simon Snow is kissing me. And this time he really wants to, because he likes me, because he wants to be my boyfriend.
It’s not forceful or angry like before, just firm enough to get me to stop mocking him. I freeze for a moment, the shock hitting me like a truck. But slowly, bit by bit, I let myself melt into it. Snow tilts his head to the side, so I do too, letting our lips slip together. Simon does this thing with his chin that drives me insane. At first I try to mimic exactly what he does, shoving back with my body and mouth, but I quickly realise I have zero idea what I’m doing. For once, Snow is the expert. So I let myself relax, giving up control for the first time in my life. Snow pushes me against the tree and places a hand on the side of my face. He delicately runs his thumb over my cheekbone, like I’m something good, something precious to him. Is this a fucking dream?
His hand moves farther back. Calloused fingers slip through my hair as his tongue slips between my lips. It’s warm and wet and the best thing I’ve ever felt in my entire miserable life.
“Baz,” he sighs quietly between our mouths.
No, this isn’t a dream. My imagination has never been this perfect.
I wrap my arms around his waist, pulling him flush against me. “Simon,” I groan. He kisses me harder, clenching a fist in my hair to better shove our faces together. Suddenly my breath feels short, and I push lightly at Simon’s chest. He moves away instantly.
“Sorry,” he says. He’s out of breath, unsurprisingly. I am too.
“No it’s okay, just,” I sigh and run my hands up his sides, “this is quite a lot for a second kiss. I just need a breather.
Simon giggles quietly. He falls forward, tapping his forehead against mine. I press my hands into his back, feeling the muscles through his shirt. We stay like that for awhile. I don’t mind. I would stay with Simon in my arms forever if I could.
“Hey,” he whispers, eyes still closed and leaning against me, “I’ve got a question.”
“Is it a sensical question?”
He pinches the back of my neck, just lightly. Not enough to hurt but enough to make his annoyance clear. “Yes, arsehole. Why were you at the party? You hate parties.”
“So do you.”
“Penny dragged me to it to have mandatory fun. So what’s your reason?”
I chuckle quietly. “Funny enough, Dev begged me to come with him because he wanted support for when he hit on your ex-girlfriend.”
Snow reels back, eyes wide and mouth falling open. “Seriously?!”
“M-hm.”
“But Agatha didn’t even come!”
“Yup. So it looks like I’ve had far more romantic success tonight than my cousin.”
Snow snorts out an adorable laugh. His hand trails forward across my jawline. It leaves sparks of sensation on my skin. He plays with a piece of loose hair in front of my face. “Y’know, I like your hair like this. You should leave it loose more often. Save some money on hair gel.”
I chuckle again, and Snow follows. Soon it turns into a loud laughter from both of us. I’ve never laughed more in my life than I have tonight. Once I calm down, I look up at him, smiling brightly. “M-hm. And you’re someone to take fashion advice from?”
A small part of me worries Snow is going to scowl and yell at me for being a prick. But instead he smiles too and rolls his eyes. I let out a small breath of relief. Everything is different now, and I love it so much more.
“Yeah, well, I know a good thing when I see it.” His hands goes lower, trailing over the soft v-neck. “Like this shirt. It fits you well.”
“Really?” I croon, trying to hide the fact that I’m exploding inside.
“Uh-huh. And these jeans. I nearly had a heart attack when I saw you in them.”
I grin so much my cheeks happily ache. “Well, I’ll let Niall know you like his clothes.”
His mouth drops open. “This is Niall’s stuff?!”
I cock an eyebrow. “You think I own clothes like this?”
“Well, no. But I, uh, kind of wish you did. You should definitely buy more jeans...”
His cheeks are cherry red. I’m pretty sure mine are too. I hold his waist tighter, tilting my head up towards his. “I’ll be sure to get some on my next trip into town.”
He smiles again, looking like a ray of sunshine. “Can I come with?”
God, he’s like an adorable little puppy. “I don’t see why not, Snow.”
He leans forward and brushes our noses together. “You called me Simon before.”
“No I didn’t,” I singsong.
Snow pushes even closer to me, warm lips against my ear. “I like it,” he whispers. “I like it when you call me Simon.”
How have I not melted into the forest floor yet? I don’t feel like a real person anymore. Just the remnants of a pathetic gay teenager who’s melted into a puddle after having all his dreams come true in a single night. I hold him tighter. Because I’m not letting him go anytime soon.
“Simon,” I sigh, just before I turn my head and kiss him softly. He reciprocates immediately, and I’m in absolute euphoria. I know we have to move eventually but I don’t want to anytime soon.
“Best spin the bottle game ever,” Simon giggles.
“Damn right,” I whisper, just before pulling him back into a searing kiss.
My god, I’m living a charmed life.

AN: Main worry with this fic: I feel like things move too quickly, but at the same time I didn't want to drag it out. Like we all know what's going to happen, best not to beat around the bush lol. Either way, this has flaws like anything I write, but I still like it. I thoroughly enjoyed writing Simon's reaction to Baz in tshirt and jeans lol. Hope you peeps liked it too, see you next fic :)

PRB 2019 15-1
Here is my contribution to the @phandomreversebang 2019! I had a lot of fun writing this fic and I would like to thank @loyal-phan and @sublimehowlter for being an amazing artist and beta!
AO3 Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/19930063
The first thing that I register after hitting the damp pavement is that someone is frantically apologizing to me. When I open my eyes I see a tall dark-haired, blue-eyed man offering me a hand. I take it. His hands are smooth and warm, and I realize that I might have been holding on a second longer than acceptable.
“Oh god, I am so sorry!” I’m startled out of my embarrassment by another wave of hurried apologies.
“I was just walking Simon,” at that, I look down to a very adorable corgi sitting obediently at the man's feet “and I wasn’t paying attention and next thing I know-” “Can I pet your dog?”
“Can you-? Um, yeah. Sure”
I bend down and start scratching the dog, evidently named Simon, behind his ears.
“What a good boy you are! What a sweet boy.” I hear the man laughing and quickly stand up my cheeks bright red.
“Sorry,” I mumble
“No, it’s alright! I act the same way whenever I see a dog. I should be the one apologizing, your clothes are all wet now.”
“It’s alright, I was on my way home from work anyway.”
“Are you sure? I feel terrible about it.”
‘No really it’s fine, uh,” I break off not sure what his name is.
“Phil.” He supplies with a smile.
“It’s alright Phil.”
“Well, if you’re sure.”
“I’m sure. It was nice running into you, Phil.”
“Yeah, nice seeing you.”
---
By the time I get home my legs are starting to chafe from the wet denim. It’s alright though, the cute dog more than made up for it. It’s a good thing it happened on my way home from work, however. It would have been hell waiting tables all day with wet jeans. And as kind as my boss is, she never goes easy on us. Especially on Sundays, which just so happens to be our busiest day.
After a delicious yet slightly pathetic dinner of cold pizza, thoughts of Phil and his dog invade my brain. Out of curiosity I pull out my phone and type Phil into the Instagram search bar. Of course, millions of results pop up. I didn’t have high hopes, but there was a small part of me holding on to the hope that I might be able to find his account using only his first name.
After my fruitless Instagram search, I find myself drifting towards my bed, despite it only being around 9:45. Oh well, long day I guess.  Surprisingly, since it normally takes me ages to fall asleep, I find my eyes drifting shut the minute I hit the mattress.
---
I wake up early, for once, which means I actually have time to enjoy my morning rather than throwing on yesterday’s clothes and quite literally running out the door. I take my time getting out of bed, stopping to look at my phone and take time to wake up. When I finally reach my small kitchen (which didn’t take very long considering how small my flat is) I realize that I have no coffee. I let out a disgruntled sigh as I come to terms with the fact that if I want caffeine, which I do, that I’ll have to head to work early putting my lazy morning to a halt. I grab my keys and head out.
I take my time walking to work, choosing to take the scenic route. Rather than the normal path I take, which has a superb view of trash cans and shady alleyways, today's route is lined with shops and restaurants and a Starbucks. The prospect of going and getting a latte of some sort seems much more appealing than getting a black coffee in a chipped mug. The minute I walk in I’m hit with a wave of warm air. A pleasant contrast to the icy weather outside. I start to head up to the counter, but I stop in my tracks when I come face to face with a pair of familiar blue eyes.
“Dan!” Phil says with a smile on his face. “What a coincidence!”
I find a smile growing on my face, what can I say? Something about his unwavering happiness is infectious.
“Oh, hi Phil!”
“Can I get you a coffee? I mean obviously, I’m assuming that's why you're here.”
“Uh-” I don’t come here very often, and the combination of my awkwardness in social situations and my lack of familiarity with the menu has me tripping over my words. “Surprise me? Just something with caffeine please.”
“You got it,” Phil responds with a chuckle. I start to pull out my wallet but he cuts me off. “Don’t worry about it, this one’s on the house.”
“It’s fine Phil, really.”
“No seriously, it’s the least I can do after running you over yesterday.”
“Well if you insist. I’ve never been one to turn down free coffee.” I say with a small laugh.
Phil smiles, before motioning over at the station. “Well if that’s all, I’m just going to go make your coffee.” He awkwardly gestures before walking away. I pull out my phone, scrolling through my Instagram feed while I wait for my coffee. After a few minutes, I see Phil walking back over with a cup in his hand. He hands it to me and looks up expectantly, waiting for me to take a sip.
“Jesus Phil, this is incredible! What is this?” He laughs
“Caramel Macchiato. My personal favorite.”
“Well if your choice in drinks is always this good you're going to have to surprise me again next time.” My phone buzzes with an alarm reminding me that I have obligations.
“Oh shit, I have to go, hopefully, I’ll run into you again soon.”
“Yeah, see you soon.”
It’s not until I’m almost at work that I notice a phone number messily scrawled onto the side of my cup.
---
I spend the majority of my break writing and deleting texts to Phil. He’s cute, there's no denying that, and he gave me his number, but it was probably just a friendly gesture. He seems like the type of person who makes friends with everyone. After many texts that I decide are either cringy, boring, or a combination of the two I settled on a simple but reliable ‘Hi its dan :)” and force myself to press send. I spend the last few minutes of my break opening and closing my phone and jumping every time my phone dings. In order to keep the anxiety at bay, I keep reminding myself that he’s at work;  it makes sense if he doesn’t respond. Just because I’m on my break doesn’t mean he’s on his. Eventually, I have to go back to work, leaving my phone and a supposedly unread text in the pocket of my jacket.
All throughout the rest of my shift, my walk home, and while making and eating dinner, I try and fail, to forget about my text to Phil. Finally, after I’ve eaten and sunk into my bed for some quality binge-watching time, my phone buzzes. As I reach over, it buzzes again. And then a third time. I laugh to myself as I open my messages to see three texts from Phil.
Hi!!! soz I took so long to reply ^-^
have a dog to make up for it
what a good boy!
Is that simon????
yes! Im surprised you remembered his name lol
hes the reason i knocked you down yesterday
well if hes the reason i really cant complain
in fact i feel blessed to have been knocked down by that angel
maybe youd want to meet him again? maybe this time without ending up on the ground lol
I hesitate what to say to that, it feels risky meeting up with Phil. Even if he seems friendly, I did only meet him yesterday. But I also don’t want to pass up the opportunity to get to know him better.
um yes?
Yay! do you want to meet up tomorrow? Im off of work
yee
starbucks?
sure, me and simon cant wait :)
We end up texting for a while after that. Originally we were just arranging a time to meet, but it slowly turned into Phil asking me about my job, which led to many other things. The more I talked to Phil the more I liked him. We had very similar interests. We had the same taste in video games, music, and even takeaway places. Not to mention talking to Phil felt easy. Social interaction isn't exactly my forte, but with Phil, the conversation flowed smoothly. It would be nice to have a friend outside of work. I love my coworkers and my boss, but it’s not really the same. Besides, the diner is more a family to me than anything. Finally, the conversation winds down, both of us beginning to fall asleep. Even though I’m no longer texting him, I can’t stop thinking about Phil as I fall asleep.
---
The next day is sunny. A welcome change from the perpetual moistness that has haunted London for the last few days. I spend most of the morning laying in bed scrolling through social media. Not the healthiest past time I’ll admit, but once I get started on the Instagram explore page it’s hard to tear myself away. Eventually, I look at the time and realize that I only have about an hour before I’m supposed to meet Phil. After five more minutes, I drag myself out of bed and towards the shower.
Several outfit changes later, Starbucks is finally within my line of vision. I check the time to see that I still have a few minutes before Phil is due to get here so I take a seat on a bench and resume my scrolling. Not long after I sit down, however, I am attacked by a bundle of saliva and tan fur, accompanied by frantic calls of “Simon down!”.
“Hello there!” I say bringing my hands up to try and protect myself from the onslaught of dog.
“I’m so sorry about him, normally he’s so well behaved, I don’t know why he always jumps on you.”
“It’s really not a problem, Phil,” I say laughing.
“Well if you insist I guess. Do you want a coffee or anything while we're here?”
“I’m fine, I don’t want to keep you and Simon waiting.”
“Oh, well if you don’t mind I thought you could stay out here with Simon and I could go in and order.”
“I mean I’m always up for hanging out with dogs, but I really can’t have you buying me another coffee.”
“Seriously Dan, it’s fine. Think of it as a gift from Simon. Besides, I have an employee discount.”
I shrug, smiling. I take Simon’s leash from Phil and sit back down.
“Oh, Dan, what do you want?” I find myself breaking into a giant grin, enough to make my dimples pop.
“Surprise me.”
---
Two sugary coffees later and more walking then I do on a normal day, Phil and I are tossing tennis balls at a dog park.
“This is one of my favourite places to go with him,” Phil says, gesturing at Simon. “It’s a nice change of pace to be outside rather than stuck on a pavement block all day.”
“Mm. What else do you like to do in your spare time?”
“Uh, well, to be honest, I don’t really go outside that much. I pretty much spend the rest of my time staying inside on the internet.”
“Me neither to be honest, I spend most of my free time participating in online Mario Kart tournaments, as sad as that seems.”
“You play Mario Kart? We should race sometime.” “Only if you want to lose, Philip.”
“Oh really? Pretty confident for never having seen me play.”
“While I guess we’ll have to change that.”
“It’s a date. Well I mean, not a date date, unless you wanted to. But I mean, I don’t want to presume-”
“Phil, Phil, don’t worry, a date sounds nice. Although, to be honest, I’ve never been asked on a Mario Kart date before. But it does sound much more my style than a fancy dinner. “
“Me too, I’m not much of an extrovert. Oh shit, it’s getting dark. I should probably head home, but I’ll text you yeah?”
“Yeah sounds great. And Phil?”
“Yeah?” “I definitely prefer your company to video games.”
---
It takes a couple of weeks to find a date that works for both of us, first because of work, and then Phil got sick, and then I got sick. But, on the bright side, we spend almost all of that time texting and face timing, and occasionally I run into him at Starbucks when I’m grabbing a coffee. Unfortunately, my minimum wage and tips don’t cover daily overpriced coffee, even if it means I get to see a very nice, attractive, person.
On the bright side, we did eventually find a time. That time happens to be tonight, and to say I’m nervous would be an understatement. I end up spending about 45 minutes sorting through every article of clothing that I own before finally settling on jeans and a jumper, an outfit that is safe but far from extraordinary. After getting dressed I spend longer than necessary trying to get my hair to cooperate. Eventually, I just give up and call a cab. One extremely awkward cab ride later and I’m standing outside Phil’s door.  I take a deep breath and raise my hand but before I get a chance to knock the door swings open.
“Dan! Hi! Come in, I’m sorry about the mess, I tried to clean but it's still pretty untidy.” I look down at my feet to see Simon wagging his tail excitedly. “It’s alright, my apartment is probably twice as bad.” As I walk into Phil’s flat and take my shoes off I notice that every surface is covered in something. The bookshelves are covered in plushies and figurines, the windowsills are adorned with plants in a questionable state of health, and the couch has a colourful blue and green quilt draped over the back. All in all, it just looks very Phil.
“If you want you can have a seat on the couch and I can order a pizza. What type do you like?” I’m startled out of my thoughts by Phil’s voice. I smile, feeling more content with my life then I have in a long time.
“Surprise me.”
~10 years later~
“The last ten years haven’t been easy. There’s been ups and downs, fortunately mostly ups. But you have been by my side for all of it. People and places have changed but you have remained a constant. I don’t know what life will bring, but I know I want you to be with me. I want to fall asleep next to you every night and wake up next to you every morning. So, Phil Lester, will you marry me?”

THE GOOD PLACE SEASON 3 SHIT POST
Alright! Well the first half (or more than half) of The Good Place, Season 3 has officially aired and let me tell you, I have OPINIONS! about what I liked, what I didn’t like, and what I’m excited for/expecting in the episodes to come. I’m going to put this under a cut because it’s hella long so get ready for it!
I’m going to start first by examining each member of Team Cockroach, character journey by character journey, and pinpointing what I liked, what I didn’t like, etc.! Also I’m going to try to refrain from screaming about Cheleanor in this post. We all know I love them a lot and there are other aspects about the show that I love and don’t post enough about!
ELEANOR
What I liked:
I absolutely adored her close relationships with Simone and Tahani this season (YAY female friendships!) and I hope their connections continue to deepen throughout the series
Her breakdown at Tahani’s engagement party was one of my favorite moments- I thought it was so realistic and human and lovely to have her relapsing and to deliver such a heartfelt apology really showed how she had grown in a different way than she did in the afterlife
What I didn’t like:
I thought the show focused too much on her character journey this season and not enough on the journeys of Jason, Tahani, and Chidi. I thought the episodes of “A Fractured Inheritance” and “The Worst Possible Use of Free Will” didn’t really add anything to her story that we didn’t know- they only confirmed what we saw previously. Like alright! We get it! She hates being vulnerable! I wish we could’ve known more about her previous relationships (romantic and otherwise) just for a more fair comparison of her relationships to Team Cockroach
To be honest... her clothes this season. I thought her style in the flashbacks was more “Arizona trashbag” and wackier and more fun. I also don’t understand why she was wearing jeans so much? Like isn’t Australia really hot?
What I wish for them in the future:
For her to finally be happy with Chidi, to navigate all the ups and downs of being in a committed relationship
Now that she and Chidi are happy also, I would love to see more of her relationships with Tahani, Jason, and Janet (and Michael too! but they did already spend time together a lot this season)
SPEARHEADING THE MOVEMENT FOR A MORE FAIR POINT SYSTEM IN THE AFTERLIFE WITH MICHAEL. LIKE YOU GO GIRL, YOU DE FACTO LEADER!
CHIDI
What I liked:
I really enjoyed seeing Chidi in a committed relationship with Simone (seeing his hand around her shoulder in “The Snowplow” made me swoon!) and I think he grew a lot from it and (like he said) developed a lot professionally and personally. It made me proud to see him step outside his realm of comfort (philosophy) and toy with neuroscience, a subject which he is totally unfamiliar with (Did I think the study was a good idea? Ummmm that’s a completely different topic!)
He loosened up and became less rigid, from not caring so much about being fired from the university to being excited about having a drink with his friends to abandoning rules, the very thing he always clings to for a structured society, and playing Jacksonville-style pool with his buddy Jason
SHIRTLESSSSSSSSS CHIDIIIIIIIIIIIII HOLY FUCK
Seeing his life in Everything is Bonzer! I really enjoyed seeing the university he worked at and spent most of his time, meeting with his colleagues and friends Simone and Henry, visiting Henry in the hospital and bringing him blueberry muffins, freaking out in the library, going to a cafe to break up with his girlfriend. None of it surprised me really but it was just nice to see his life outside of the neighborhood.
I liked seeing Tahani and Chidi bond, even for a short while, in A Fractured Inheritance because they haven’t interacted in two seasons and I love these two highly educated sophisticates!
What I didn’t like:
How he went from 0 to 100 in regards to his feelings for Eleanor? I mentioned my feelings in this post but yeah... I just don’t get how he was able to leave Simone behind so quickly when he was lingering on his feelings for her even after he learned the truth about his fate
Why the fuck did he wear so many sweater vests this season? I loved his button down shirts, short-sleeved, in the afterlife because they highlighted his chest/arms. SHED THE SWEATER VESTS 2K19!!
What I wish for them in the future:
Again, HAPPINESS WITH ELEANOR! I’M READY FOR THE GOOEYNESS!
To address the gap between the Chidi/Simone, Chidi/Eleanor relationships
I want this more for Chidi than for Eleanor, but I REALLY REALLY REALLY want Chidi to become closer with Jason and Tahani. They have such wonderful relationships and they aren’t explored enough! I’m hoping now that he and Eleanor are finally settled in, he can form deeper connections with them. I also barely know anything about his relationships with the Tahani and Jason because he barely interacted with them in the Snowplow?
TAHANI
What I liked:
I loved that she went about giving her money away because she WANTED to, rather than needed to for validation, in Jeremy Bearimy. She had genuine desire to become a good person and to hand her money over to people who needed it (like Jason).
Also, even though I am not a fan of A Fractured Inheritance, I did really like that Tahani wanted to make up with her sister out of the goodness of her heart and that she expressed sympathy for Kamilah (even though Kamilah didn’t necessarily deserve it) It really showed how loving Tahani truly is
Her reactions to Jason’s life in The Ballad of Donkey Doug... absolute golden
In general, I adored her relationships with Jason and Eleanor this season. She has such strong friendships with both of them, and I wish we saw that level of bonding in Chidi’s relationships, too!
What I didn’t like:
I hate to say it, but most of the jokes for Tahani were kind of stale for me this season (I don’t think this is due to Jameela at all, but more the writing?) Though she KILLED it as a centaur!
What the fuck was the point of Larry Hemsworth? Also, stop trying to make Jason/Tahani a thing. Also, STOP GIVING TAHANI MALE LOVE INTERESTS! SHE’S A LESBIAN.   L E S B I A N!!
What I wish for them in the future:
I really want Tahani to have more screen time because IMO she doesn’t have enough and she’s such a wonderful and relatable character. I hope she finds a role for herself in the afterlife system and creates a satisfying career for herself (WHICH I WANT MORE THAN ANYTHING) Honestly, at this point in the series, I’m not really rooting for Tahani to have a love interest because I think she could have a kickass self-journey first. Go Tahani!
JASON
What I liked:
I think the writers did the best job at depicting Jason’s life on Earth, probably because his Soul Squad adventure was in his natural environment/home turf. I loved his relationships with Pillboi and Donkey Doug, watching him work so that they became better people, and more than that, I ended up adoring and rooting for Pillboi and Donkey Doug in the process. I still am! Hi guys!
SEEING DANCE DANCE RESOLUTION! I think watching Jason lead his dance crew and ponder a deeper meaning to life showed a new depth to his character and also excellently highlighted his most positive qualities. I thought the humor in his Everything is Bonzer! storyline was my favorite and perfectly in line with who he was.
His two moments interacting with Simone were frigging golden and I wish there was more of that friendship (although Simone is more like his mom... yikes LOL)
His friendship with Tahani. I mentioned it earlier but it really warmed my heart and I’m happy they are so close!
I actually loved his Earth clothes and getting a sense of his regular style, especially his jackets!
What I didn’t like:
Not much honestly. I liked Jason a lot this season!
What I wish for them in the future:
Reunited with Pillboi
A RELATIONSHIP WITH JANET PLEASE PLEASE PLEASEEEEEE
Again he’s a mixed bag, so we’ll see, but to reiterate I would love a Chidi/Jason friendship!
JANET
What I liked:
Everything about that Janet(s) episode. I mean that was more D’Arcy but still, I adore that Janet(s) got her moment to shine because I thought she was underutilized this season (and now I see why, she was working hard filming this episode!)
Her adoration of Jason GETS ME! and I hated (and loved) how she admired him from afar
God. Her friendship with Michael I liked but didn’t pay much attention to but now I care about so much it’s now one of my favorite relationships on the show and it makes me well up thinking about how much time they’ve spent together. I can’t wait them to have more adventures together! I also liked how she was more rational when Michael was going nuts with his ideas of how to keep the humans together.
Seeing her develop new abilities like lying, throwing shade, kicking ass, etc. I’m so freaking proud of how far she’s come!
Releasing her queue in front of the judge so she and Michael could escape to Earth. GO JANET!
What I didn’t like:
Again, I thought Janet was underutilized and now I see why!
Sometimes I am ??? about some of her gaps in knowledge since she is supposed to know everything (like wouldn’t she have known no one’s gotten into The Good Place in 521 years?) but eh, that’s the show’s fault, not hers
What I wish for them in the future:
LET!!! HER!!! DATE!! JASON!!!
MICHAEL
What I liked:
His love for the humans truly touches me and I was astounded by the lengths he was willing to go to protect him.
I thought he was really funny this season, especially with the Dick Tracy joke!
His way of explaining the humans’ history in the afterlife (JEREMY BEARIMYYY) with all the whiteboards
What I didn’t like:
Again, too much time bonding with Eleanor and not enough with the other humans!
Not treating Janet like an equal! GIVE HER WHAT SHE DESERVES!! ACKNOWLEDGE SHE KICKED THOSE DEMON ASSES NOT YOU!
What I wish for them in the future:
I’m so freaking excited to see him take charge of the point system! The last episode really got me pumped up for this reformed demon and I’m PSYCHED to see what’s to come!
Favorite moments of the season (Non-Cheleanor related, because I feel like that’s a given):
Pillboi and Jason’s handshake
The reveal that Donkey Doug is Jason’s dad
Eleanor’s breakdown at the engagement party
Eleanor forcing Chidi to ask Simone out
Eleanor pretending to be Simone
Simone talking to Eleanor after her breakdown
Chidi and Simone’s first meeting (I FREAKING LOVE IT! You’re so weird!)
Eleanor and Simone in the cafe
Just anything with Simone really I’m in love with her
The scene where Jason was lecturing DDR to give everything they got (Little Peanut: Now we can legally rob their houses LOL)
Eleanor-Janet pretending to be Jason-Janet
PEEPS IN THE CHILI POT
Confrontation with the judge at the end of “The Brainy Bunch”
The fight inside the bar in Canada
The snail funeral for Martin Luther Gandhi Tyler Moore
Favorite episodes of the season:
Janet(s)
The Ballad of Donkey Doug
Everything is Bonzer!
The Brainy Bunch
Jeremy Bearimy
Least favorite episodes of the season:
A Fractured Inheritance (that episode can choke)
The Snowplow
Predictions about The Good Place in the future:
Okay I feel like since no one’s gotten in in 500+ years, The Good Place must be incredibly outdated and therefore, not at all that great? Like it’s probably not up to speed technologically (in terms of the Janets, too) and everyone there is too old-fashioned/too goodie-two-shoes and it’s up to the gang to diversify and modernize it.
I think Mike Schur mentioned something about how children are more likely to go to The Good Place since they have less time to collect negative point values, so I bet the place is crawling with kids? (If I can find the interview I will reference it!)
I made a post awhile back about how William Jackson Harper in an interview said that Chidi would try to touch base/save someone from his past (Again I will reference once I dig through my posts)... my theory now that they’re back in the afterlife is that he is going to try to save his grandma! Will Eleanor meet his grandma? OMG will his grandma show Eleanor baby photos of Chidi? (This is just me launching into fanfic territory don’t mind meeeeee)

Young Justice: Independence Day, Fireworks, and Stopover
Tumblr media
Warning, Spoilers Ahead…
My goal is to re-watch the Young Justice series and re-read the comics before the January 4th launch of Young Justice: Outsiders.  Let’s begin.
Episode 1: “Independence Day”
July 4th: We begin, appropriately enough, on the United States’ Independence Day.  The title will have multiple meanings by the end of the first two episodes:  the kids’ semi-independence from their mentors and Superboy’s freedom from the Cadmus Project.
Do cold villains hate the Fourth of July?
Dick is the only Robin who would have laughter as a trademark.
“Juniors doing this for attention?” – One of my favorite parts of this series is the depth of knowledge for the characters of the DC Universe – even the obscure ones.  The current Icicle is a “junior” – his father was the original Icicle of the Golden Age era.  As a huge fan of the B through D list characters, I have a huge appreciation for anyone who remembers the small details.
Kaldur was an interesting choice as he was a new but fairly obscure character when Young Justice debuted. Garth would have been the more logical choice as he was a founding member of the Titans along with Dick, Roy, and Wally.
I admit I wondered why the series was called Young Justice because all I was seeing were the founding members of the Titans at this point (minus Garth and Donna).
“You’ll chat it up with the cops, the bystanders, with Cold even.” – One sentence reveals so much of Barry’s personality.
“I knew we’d be the last ones here.” – Again, a Barry trait.
“Speedy is Green Arrow’s sidekick.” “Well, that makes no sense.” – Accurate.
“Why isn’t anyone just whelmed?” – Dick’s mangling of the English language begins.
“02” – The assigned numbers correspond with the members joining the team.  The way to my heart is the small details.
Roy has a huge hissy even by his impatient, hot-headed nature.  We discover the reason later in the series.
“We could make an exception.” – Really, the Justice League wouldn’t allow their proteges on the Watchtower? Why?
Zatara and Wotan! Yay, obscure characters for the win!
“Glad you didn’t bring you know who?” Foreshadowing!
The boys invade Cadmus in all its glory: Guardian, G-Nomes, Genomorphs, Dubbilex, and, of course, Superboy.
“Dr. Desmond” is a hint for his upcoming transformation. The “Blockbuster” label confirms it.
Wally is a science nerd. Makes sense with Barry as a mentor.
“File KR” – another hint.
“Sub-level 52”. – DC does love its 52.
Superboy!  Looking more like the Teen Titans-era version than the early, scrawny, fresh out of the pod version.
Hack! – Tim is typically the Robin most associated with computers.  To be fair, the Internet was pretty much non-existent when Dick and Jason were Robin.
Superboy, unsurprisingly, curb-stomps the team.
 Episode 2: “Fireworks”
First appearance of the Light aka the Cadmus Board of Directors.
“Clone them.” – We later discover that one sidekick has already been cloned.
Dubbilex, the sneaky traitor, awakens the boys.
“Project: Sidekick” – Desmond is so imaginative when it comes to naming projects.
“He can talk.”
“Yes, he can.”
“Not like I said it.
Wally, listen to Dick and Kaldur and keep your mouth shut.
Kaldur is clearly the wisest of the original group.
“Batcave’s crowded enough.” – Well, it’s been said three is a crowd.
“What would Superman do?” – Everyone should apply this standard to their decisions.
“Don’t you give me orders either.” – I can see why it would be a sensitive issue – his whole life (all 16 weeks) has been controlled by others.
“You can leap tall buildings in a single bound.  Still cool.” – Sweet Wally being supportive.
“Don’t apologize. This is perfect.” – That’s how you know Dick was raised by the Batman.
“I finally have room to move.” – Yeah, speed is more useful when you have to space to run.
“Grab something from Project Blockbuster.” – If you were familiar with the villain, you knew what was about to happen.
“The Genomorph hero.” – Unfortunately, this bit wasn’t followed up on.
“Everyone back.” – Protective Guardian for the win.  Sadly, he’s outmatched by Blockbuster.
“Got your nose.” – Gross!
“You incredible bulk.” – Shout out to the competition.
Oh, look at protective Superboy and Aqualad covering their more delicate teammates.
The League arrives with Superman taking point.
Not loving Hawkgirl/woman’s costume.
Poor Kal breaks Superboy’s heart.  Bad Kal!  I understand Clark’s upset and confusion but don’t take it out on the newborn child.
“All 52 levels.” – Again, DC loves the 52.
“Why let them tell us what to do.  It’s simple.  Get on board or get out of the way.” – Superboy declares the true mission statement of Young Justice.
Red Tornado as team supervisor is a nod to the comic book version of Young Justice.
I did like the addition of Black Canary as team trainer.  It’s a nice nod to Dinah’s combat skills which Gail Simone spent most of the 2000s building up.
“This is the Martian Manhunter’s niece.” – Another surprise choice as Miss Martian wasn’t very well known in the comics.  Never will a character start out so cute and then devolve into creepiness.
M’gann’s obsession with Superboy begins immediately.  We’ll discover why later in the season.
 Young Justice #1: Stopover
The issue begins immediately after Superboy declares “Get on board or get out of the way.”
“Give me three days” Batman responds.
The group then realizes Superboy has nowhere to go in the meantime.
Kid Flash brings Superboy to Central City.  Wally explains the situation to his parents.  There is a cute moment when Mrs. West corrects Wally’s grammar: “Robin, Aqualad, and I…”
Superboy interjects with a “You weren’t there.”
Cadmus clearly didn’t instruct Superboy in conversation nuances.
Mrs. West informs Wally that he “leads a very strange life.  But we’re use to it. Largely.”
Wally’s parents are way more understanding and supportive than they are in the main DC Universe.
Wally’s parents ask Superboy’s name.  Wally responds “I call him Supey.  I think he likes it.” Conner doesn’t look like he likes it.
We stop in on Kaldur and Arthur’s return journey to Atlantis.
Kaldur: “We meant no disrespect.”
Arthur: “I would not be much of a king if I did not allow my subjects freedom of expression. Especially when their words carry such wisdom.”
Somewhere, Garth is wondering why he never had this type of relationship with Arthur.
Conner wonders “Think Superman knows I’m here?”
Wally awkwardly reassures Conner that Superman knows he’s in Central City.
Wally awakens the next day to find Conner sleeping upright in his closet. Conner informs Wally that he is not “used to sleeping in a bed.  Your closet reminded me of my Cadmus pod.  Except for the funny smells.”
Poor Conner.  A bed shouldn’t be a foreign concept.
The boys spend the day vegging in front of the tv.  Conner is very bored.  Each panel has Wally eating something different: a bag of chips, pizza, and a bucket of fried chicken.
Nice nod to Wally’s metabolism.
Late in the day a card arrives with a credit cart addressed to Wally “for expenses.”
Superboy wonders if it’s from Superman.
Wally vaguely confirms it’s from Superman with a “who else could it be from” even though he’s clearly aware it was sent by Batman.
Wally is so sweet – he keeps trying to reassure that, of course, Superman would care about Conner’s location and well-being.
Batman is also a very sweet Bat-Dad this issue.  Bruce would deny it but he was consistently sweet and supportive to Conner in the first season.  None of the other Leaguers thought Conner would need money to buy basic essentials like clothes.  Or that the middle-class Wests would need financial support to care for Superboy.  Wally’s appetite alone has to put a serious dent in their income.
If Wally hadn’t offered, I’m positive Bruce would have taken Conner back to the Batcave.  If for no other reason than Alfred wouldn’t have been thrilled with the idea of an underage child being left alone.  Batman would have also thought of the risks of leaving Conner on his own – Cadmus operatives could have tried to regain custody of a lone Superboy.
The boys head to the mall to shop for clothes.  A nice easter egg is the name of the store the boys enter: “Forever Sixteen”. Conner was genetically locked in that age for some time in the comics.
Conner buys multiple copies of the same black shirt.  Not someone who’s big on fashion.
We bop over to Gotham where Dick is impatiently wondering what Bruce is doing in the Batcave – it’s been almost two and a half days!
Alfred patiently reminds Dick that when one says three days, one means three days.
Poor Alfred has the patience of a saint.  Imagine what the poor man endures on a daily basis: Bruce in all his glory; hyper, energetic Dick, Jason’s explosiveness, Damian’s demanding arrogance, and Stephanie’s boisterousness.  Tim, Cassie, and Duke are the quieter children. They don’t cause Alfred as much fuss.
Back to the mall where Wally and Conner encounter Tommy and Tuppence, the Terror Twins – the same twins that Conner and M’gann impersonate at Belle Reve.
Flash and Superman arrive on the scene of the fight.  Conner mutters a single “Superman” before Clark flees from the scene.  To be fair, he was pursuing the Terror Twins but he couldn’t even offer a “hi” before he left?
Flash tells the boys to go home.  Barry will pick the boys up in the morning because “Batman has made his decision”.
Honestly, Batman made his decision as soon as he told the kids “three days”. Bruce simply needed the three days to implement his plan.
Conner asks Wally if “Superman will be there tomorrow”. Wall responds “Uh, sure, you know…if there’s no emergency somewhere.”
Conner’s downcast face shows he doesn’t believe Wally’s statement.
Conner asks Wally “Why’d you invite me to stay with you?”
“Well, un, Aqualad lives underwater.  And the Batcaves’s kind of a big secret. So I figured it’d be cool for us to hang.”
Conner smiles after Wally’s statement.
Wally is so sweet and supportive in this issue.  It also shows that Wally is very trusting.  He is inviting Superboy into his home with his civilian parents – and he knows how easily Conner curbstomped the entire team.  But Wally knows Conner is one of the good guys and doesn’t even hesitate to bring him to Central City.
The issue ends with the final moments of the second episode.

Chapter Eight: Weapon of Choice
Heyyyyy!! Sorry, life has been cray, and it’s never gonna change, unfortunately. But guys, dw, I am dedicated. Also, weirdly, doing this has made me appreciate books even more? It’s so much fun to talk abt books, and I learn so much, even if it’s a book I hate. Okay, getting started (pray for me):
We last left off with Clary jumping thru the surprise door, like one does. Jace lands on top of her, yay, OTP moment, gag me. There’s a nice little detail where “Clary coughed hair (not her own) out of her mouth” which kind of captures the chaos and would be cute if it were an actual good ship. I hate when that happens. Jace criticizes Clary, FINALLY for a valid reason.
It turns out they’re at Luke’s house. Oh, classic, he lives in Williamsburg, the gentrified hipster paradise. Where else would a man who wears flannel live? Even more classic, he lives behind a bookstore. Clare is obviously one of those heavy-handed authors who has exactly two professions for her Intellectual Men™: bookseller and evil Giles.
I’m going to shake Clary. She doesn’t know why they’re here, despite having thought “I want to go where my mom would have gone” right before jumping. Like, bitch??? Do you have a brain? I’m cryingfff
Clary decides she wants to leave, even though there’s cleary something super sketch abt Luke. He’s so obviously protecting her, so he must know something, right? Well, Clary rubs her two brain cells together and decides, nope, nothing to see here! Time to go home!
Jace, being reasonable for once, is like, yo, maybe we should stay. They run into Simon, so you know there’s gonna be Dramaz. Jace and Simon apparently devolve into primordial wild dogs driven by the intense urge to fight for the girl dog so they can screw and produce puppies that are as annoying as they are. Here is what everyone is doing:
Clary is fixing Simon’s hair bc she’s a Woman Simon is pushing Clary’s hand away bc he’s Annoyed Jace is using his stele to file his nail bc he’s Not Paying Attention
There’s some horrible forced tension between Simon and Clary, where he’s all, “Clary, you ran away from me, I thought I and my dick upset you,” and Clary’s all, “Never, Simon, I love you,” and Simon cums. Not actually, instead he slut shames Clary:
“Yeah, well, you clearly also couldn’t be bothered to call me and tell me you were shacking up with some dyed-blond wanna-be goth you probably met at Pandemomonium”
On the one hand, draaaaag him, Simon!! Jace IS a peroxide blond who listens Evanescence (I almost wrote MCR before googling it and learning that if I wrote that, about a million punks would stream into my inbox in tears).
Simon’s eyes are “dark with suspicion”. which is just annoying. Yes, I would be so fucking annoyed if my friend ran out on me and then disappeared and then reappeared with a blond guy. But I’d also do some more questioning of the situation. Is she okay? Why is she with such a rude guy? Is he hurting her? Was she kidnapped? Is she being held against her will? Is this a drug thing? Does she need my help? Why did Luke cover for her? Is something deeper going on? Instead Simon is all possessive Nice Guy.
Apparently Simon spied on Luke packing a duffel bag of weapons. So he couldn’t give Clary any benefit of the doubt? It sounds like her family is caught in a bad situation! Maybe she had to hide for her life! Simon, use your brain!!
kajlkfaklsdjfalksdflk Clary tells Simon everything, and Simon asks if they kill all these different magical creatures, and Jace says ONLY WHEN THEY’VE BEEN NAUGHTY a;dlfjals;kdjfl;asdjfl;aksdjf hahahahahahahah This image that Clare is going for is just sooooo overdrawn. This dialogue, omfg.
Simon loses his mind and excitedly compares everything that’s been going on to D&D. Let’s totally forget abt the fact that Clary’s mom is missing, or that Luke just filled a duffel bags with murder sticks, shall we?
Tumblr media
Jace and Simon have a bizarre conversation, and then they walk. In. The. Back. Door. Bc Luke doesn’t lock his back door. Bc that’s totally not something that someone who fills a duffel bag with weapons would do. At least the door to the bookstore is locked, though Jace opens it pretty easily with his stele. Why didn’t Luke have Jocelyn fix up some wards or something?
Simon asks Clary how she stands Jace, and she’s like “he saved me life” and he’s like “huh?” even though she told him everything that happened. Why is Simon so dumb. I guess all his blood is in his dick? Wouldn’t surprise me.
They find manacles in the wall, so either Luke and Jocelyn have (even more) hidden depths, or Luke practices
Tumblr media
Luke’s apartment is filled with books. Of course. Look, I love books. I have about 500 in my room at this moment. I buy them constantly, I get from the libarary, I read and read and read. I think most of us on booklr do. But when every single Good Character in your book has books, it’s boring. And no one has unique book taste. What if all of Luke’s books were nature books? Jack London? Travel guides? That would paint a picture. Instead he has a bunch of fantasy and other fiction. That’s boring. I learn nothing, bc every goddamn person in this goddamn book reads fantasy. It’s so fucking generic. I totally approve of “good” characters admiring and liking reading bc that’s how you get ideas, and that’s how Lemony Snicket rolls, but there are more books than fantasy and mystery (the other main type that Lucas has) in the world. Justice Strauss has an inexhaustive library. Uncle Monty has all those books about snakes. Lucky Smells just has that one history of Lucky Smells. Already, you know so much abt each person (and place) by what books they have. We learn nothing about Luke.
Clary finds the overnight bag she leaves at Luke’s and changes clothes. I mention this only bc she puts on “a blue tank top with a design of Chinese characters across the front” bc of COURSE she is That Bitch. I hope it translates to something like “Radishes” or “Bridge”.
Luke’s bedroom has a shelf of “Indian statues and Russian icons” which, idk, makes me a little uncomfortable. These sound like things that are holy to someone. But I think the worst part is that Clary says, “Luke collects stuff. Art objects. You know … Pretty things.” I just googled it, and Hindu statues, like the one Luke has of Kali, are seen as actual avatars of gods. Clary is diminishing someone’s god to a “pretty thing”. It’s not a nick-nack or a trinket. (If you know more abt this, like if I’m wildly off-base, feel free to send me an ask!)
Jace finds the Metaphor known as a smashed picture of Luke, Jocie, and Clary, which Clary threw at the Ravener in her apartment, so realize that Luke went back through the apartment. Jace says that Luke must have gone through the Portal-potty last, so it brought them here. I’m still team Clary Asked to Go Where Her Mother Would Have Gone and Therefore the Portal did What it Was Supposed to Do and Brought Her Where She Wanted.
Luke and some warlocks show up, so Clary and co. hide behind the super convenient silk screen. Jace uses his sonic stele to make the screen transparent and we get this gem:
Jace shook his head at them both, mouthing words: They can’t see us through it, but we can see them.
Bc mouthing works that well. You don’t mouth compound sentences!! You mouth something simple like they can’t see us. Simon and Clary already know they can see Luke and the warlocks bc they’re looking at them right now! And this spell or whatever that Jace did takes the tension in the scene waaaaaay down. If they can’t see Luke, then everything becomes more tense. Are the voices getting closer to the screen? Is somebody about to reveal them? Instead, all the tension is drained in a dumb quick-fix.
Bc Clare thinks we’re stupid, she adds “It was frightening even though [Clary] knew [Luke] couldn’t see her, that the window Jace had made was like the glass in a police station interrogation room: strictly one-way.”
Tumblr media
GD ARE YOU THERE??????? STOP THIS.
Jace realizes that the warlocks are actually Shadowhunters dressed as warlocks. Idk how he can tell, but whatever. He conveys this by whispering, so I don’t know what the mouthing nonsense was earlier.
The Shadowhunters are named Blackwell (redhead) and Pangborn (gray mustache). What sorts of names. It’s like Clare used a fantasy-name-generator. Who are we kidding, that’s totally what she did. Pangborn picks up the Kali statue and this conversation happens:
“Ah,” said Pangborn, taking the statue from his companion. “She who was created to battle a demon who could not be killed by any god or man. ‘Oh, Kali, my mother full of bliss! Enchantress of the almighty Shiva, in they delirious joy thou dancest, clapping thy hands together. Thou art the Mover of all that moves, and we are but thy helpless toys.’” “Very nice,” said Luke. “I didn’t know you were a student of the Indian myths.” “All the stories are true,” said Pangborn, and Clary felt a small shiver go up her spine. “Or have you forgotten even that?” “I forget nothing,” said Luke.
So the Shadowhunter mythology is that all religions are true? Inch resting. I vaguely remember this. Idk how I feel about this. The Shadowhunters are still gonna be super Christian no matter what lip-service Clare pays to other religions. She has angels! And demons! She’s trying to be inclusive, but it’s never really gonna work, bc she’s doing it in name only. But at the same time, I wouldn’t want her to mess with any religion but Christianity or, sigh, Judaism. Christianity bc it’s the dominant religion and can’t be marginalized (different denominations can be, but not Christianity as a whole) and Judaism bc she’s Jewish. There’s not very much Jewish in these books, though. Yeah, there are angels in Judaism, but it’s not really the Jewish Vibe. A book influenced by Judaism would have a lot of magic based on specific wording, and arguments, and Hebrew and Hebrew-derived languages. This book uses Latin and is into angels. It’s Christian-influenced, which is fine, I guess, but the lip-service to other religions doesn’t ring true. But also, saying “Christianity is the one religion!” is super upsetting and she shouldn’t do that. I don’t really know where I’m going with this, I’m literally thinking on the page. Do you guys have any thoughts on this? Please hit up my ask box or talk about this in the notes! This discussion really interests me, and I want to get diverse opinions.
Luke asks if Valentine sent them (he did) and if their clothes “are official Accord robes” “from the Uprising?” (they are). Wow. The Uprising. What a descriptive name! We don’t call things “the Uprising” in real life. It’s more like, “The French Revolution.” “The Cultural Revolution.” “The Revolutionary War.” “The Civil War.” Am I being unfair?” I guess someone right after one of the French Revolutions might just say “the Revolution.” But something about The Uprising is so boring. And aren’t there more than one Uprising? There should be. The Warlock Uprising. The Vampire Uprising. It doesn’t have to be all internal. Any organized group would rise against the Clave. The Clave is legit the worst.
It turns out Luke’s real name is Lucian AND. I. AM. DYING. Luke is Lucius Malfoy, confirmed!! Let’s do a list of what we know so far:
Clary: Ginny Jace: Draco Jocelyn: I’m getting Bellatrix vibes? Bc of the whole in-love-with Voldemort thing? Valentine: I don’t know?? I can’t think of who he could be??? We’ll have to leave this blank for now I guess :/ Hodge: Giles. Not a HP character, but this is a crossover event with Buffy. Isabelle: Pansy Parkinson Alec: I actually don’t know here. He’s the GBF. Simon: Does Harry make sense? They’re both boring nice guys (don’t @ me!)
This game is getting boring, let’s move on. Luke apparently used to fight with B and P, so we know he’s a Shadowhunter (or, if you’ve read this book before, you know he used to be one). Then he tells them he doesn’t know where the Mortal Cup is (they think Jocelyn hid it).
CLARY IS SO FUCKING DUMB OMFG. P and B talk about how Jocelyn hasn’t regained consciousness and Valentine wants to see her again (using her name) and Clary goes:
Jocelyn? Can they be talking about my mother?
Tumblr media
NO THE OTHER FUCKING JOCELYN. CLARY HOW RU STILL ALIVE.
CC must think her readers are really dumb and can’t figure anything out on their own:
“I’ve never felt any way about [Jocelyn], particularly,” said Luke. “Two Shadowhunters, exiled from their own kind, you can see why we might have banded together. But I’m not going to try to interfere with Valentine’s plans for her, if that’s what he’s worried about.”
He might as well have said, “Jocelyn and I were both exiled. EXILED. We were exiled. We were exiled as fuck. Do you get it? Reading context clues is hard, so I’m saying WE WERE EXILED.” The quasi-warlocks should have responded like, “Yeah? We know you both were exiled? We were there?”
Blackwell refers to Jocelyn as “that bitch” bc institutionalized mysoginy is the absolute best! I love when vicious sexism is included for no reason! Bc also these guys aren’t any worse than Luke! Bc may I remind you that Luke was basically a supremacist! Just like them!
For some reason, these idiots believe Lucius when he tells them that he’s not close with Jocie. Then please explain why you both live in Brooklyn.
P and B threaten to make Luke stay in the city, and Luke threatens them, and somehow they let this happen? In other news, Clary is still dumb as rocks. She’s super hurt that Luke said that he doesn’t care about Jocie bc she has about 0 critical thinking skills. We’re talking none. She could have someone whispering the answers in her ear and still bomb the SAT.
Jace thinks that P and B think Luke “knows more than he’s telling” so why would they let him go???? Then Jace reveals that P and B murdered his dad, and this chapter is OVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Someone bring me a Bloody Mary. It’s how I feel inside.

Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Chapter 4
I opened my eyes and rolled on my back. I was in Shannon’s bed... fully clothed I looked around the room was dark but not dark enough to be nighttime. There was a rumble from the distance. Great a storm, wasn't sleeping now. I sat up and looked around the room was so still it made me wonder where Shannon was and why we didn't have sex. . . maybe he really was trying.
I got up and walked out to the dining room they were talking softly.
“I think maybe we should just go do it,” Shannon said.
“It’s her decision Shannon, I’d be pissed if you just made the- Tatty hey,”
“Baby,” Shannon said walking over hugging me tighter then he had in a while, like... 12 hours. “Feeling better,”
“I guess?” I shrugged. “Couldn't sleep with the storm coming.” I shrugged. “What are you guys talking about?” I asked. Shannon looked back at Jared they both took a deep breath.
“Sit down,” Shannon said pulling the chair out I sat down nervously, he sat on the opposite side of the table to Jared.
“Did I do something?” I swear if they didn't want anything to do with me, I was done. I had no one else. Not a person.
“So Shan and I were talking about how things are at your family’s house,” Jared began.
“Yeah, they really put a lot on top of you,”
“We kind of came up with a solution that could take some pressure off you,”
“What’s that?” I asked.
“You should move in here,” Shannon said looking in my eyes.
“Here?” I questioned
“Yeah,” Shannon said I looked at Jared.
“We were considering getting another roommate, you need somewhere to go, somewhere to find yourself,”
“Right,” I nodded looking at my hands.
“I mean if you don’t want too,”
“I do,” I said. “It’s a great idea,” I smiled. “I might actually get some study done if I was here,” I told. “and it's closer to work,” I smiled. “a lot of positives,”
“But?” Jared offered.
“It’s just nerve-wracking,” I shrugged. “Shan, we’ve been such a roller coaster”
“I know, but if we’re together for more then a few hours we can work on a healthy balance,” he said softly.
“Yeah,”
“Well, I’ve got until about 4pm free,” Jared said. “How much are you moving in?”
“I don't know,” I shrugged.
“You don’t need a bed, and my closet is built in,” Shannon pointed out.
“I just need my desk stuff, books, and clothes and things.”
“Furniture?” Jared prompted.
“The only thing I’m overly attached too is my desk,” I told. “It was the first thing I bought when I got my first job,” I told. “But the things on and in it are more important. Clothes, work clothes” I shrugged.
“let’s do it then?” Shannon suggested.
“Okay,” I sighed. “I have to work tonight though,”
“Cool, the sooner we go, the sooner you can come back and get ready for work”
“Okay,” I smiled.
“Yeah?” Shannon asked.
“Yeah,” I grinned
“Yay!!” Jared cheered getting up hugging me. “We’re roomies,”
“Yay,” I laughed. Shannon hugged me from the other side.
“We’re bed buddies,”
“Yaay,” I laughed hugging them both.
We turned up at my house, I walked in with Jared and Shannon behind me, my mom looked up seemingly shocked. My siblings weren’t here, seemingly. This would be good, I wouldn't have to hurt them.
“Tatty,” she said softly.
“Hey,” I said softly. “Is Simon okay?” I asked.
“He’s fine,” Mom said softly. “He agreed not to press charges,”
“Charges?”
“the hospital wanted too,” she told. “He had to get stitches and had a concussion for a while,”
“But he’s going to be okay?”
“Yeah, he’s in bed at the moment,”
“Okay”
“Why are you here?”
“So, I have decided to move in with Shannon and Jared,” I told. “We’ve come to get my stuff,”
“Well, I think that’s a really good idea,”
“Okay,” I nodded.
“what do you need to take?” she asked.
“Just my stuff and my desk,” I shrugged.
“I can take your desk and some stuff if you want, anything that doesn't fit in your cars,”
“thanks,” I nodded.
“Do you want help packing?”
“Can you kinda get my stuff that’s not in my room?” I asked. She nodded. Between the three of us, it won't take long” I said looking at Shannon and Jared. I pointed out the section or corner of the room that was mine. I went to use the bathroom and ran into Simon. I did what I had to do then went and knocked on his bedroom door. “Si?”
“Yeah,”
“Can I come in?”
“Yeah,” he said softly. I went in to see him on his phone his lap on its dullest setting. I sat on the end of his bed.
“Are you okay?”
“Yeah,” he said softly. “Just a couple of stitches, you’ve done worse,” he smiled
“true,”  I half laughed. “Does it hurt?”
“A Little,”
“So, um”
“How are you even not in Jail,” he asked.
“The judge took pity on me,” he told. “he’s making me do all this other stuff,” I told. “I went to a psych and anger management yesterday,” I told. “therapy next week,”
“That’s all good stuff Tatty, I hope you apply it” I shrugged.
“I’m moving out today,”
“Mom said,”
“they’re not bad, Si,”
“it doesn't matter what I think Tat,” he told. “It’s your life,”
we sat awkwardly for a good while, I didnt know what to say.
“You don’t hate me?” I asked.
“No, tat, you’re my sister,” he held his arm out. I gave him a tight hug. “Make sure you take care of yourself over there,”
“I will,”
And you know I’m a phone call away,”
“I know,” I said pulling back. “I should go pack”
“Okay, I’m going to sleep off the concussion you gave me,”
“Good idea,” I nodded.
I went back to my own room that I shared with my sisters getting to work with Jared and Shannon, We each went to work packing bags upon bags lining them up at the door.
“I’ll start taking stuff to the car,” Jared said standing in front of the pile.
“Okay, J,” I said looking over at him for a second. He took a handful out. I looked at Shannon then went back to my packing. “Are you sure you’re okay with this?” I asked.
“Of course baby,” he said softly.
“I know you get sick of me sometimes when I’m all over you,”
“I like it at times too,” he said walking over too me. “You know what I like as well?” he asked putting his arms around my waist.
“Sex?” I smirked pressing my head into his.
“When ever we want,”
“You won't have to beg me to come out in the middle of the night,” I grinned.
“Or wait an hour for you to walk over,” he told.
“You can just grab me and throw me on the bed”
“yes,” he whispered carrying the sss until I turned and kissed him.
“Guys,” Jared called we both looked over. “We’re making good progress, let's not slow down now.”
“Okay,” I nodded. “Do you want to do my shoes?” I”ll do my make up?” I asked Shannon he went straight to them, I took a step behind him my make up was mostly in containers that I would keep I just kept packing bags upon bags until all the drawers were empty.
“We’re almost done,” Jared said as the three of us stood looking at the desk.
“This part I need to know where it is,” I told.
“All of it?” Shannon asked.
“Yeah,” I told. “It’s my study things,” I told
“Okay,” they nodded.
“Actually I’ll take this book to work,” I said picking up a book about leopards. “And this notebook and my pencil case,”
“Anyone would think you should work at work,” Jared snickered.
“It’s night shift,” I laughed. “It’ll be pretty much dead.”
We finished up at my mums, I went to the linen cupboard and grabbed my couple of linen things I’d brought over the last while and walked through the car, the three of them were filled up. I often forgot Shannon had a car, he never used it, only when he had to go out of town, other than that he walked everywhere. When we got back the three cars were unpacked in record time with the four of us doing the unloading.
“I’m off now, Tatty,” Mom called, I ran through the house to her.
“Okay,” I said hugging her.
“I’m always here for you, you know that?”
“Yeah I know,” I smiled, I could see the tears in her eyes. “It’s okay,” I said softly. “I’m way old enough for this,” I told I was 23, hella old enough.
“I know, I just never expected all this to happen so quickly,”  she said. “My first child moving out”
“Yeah,” I said.
“I have to go to work,” she sniffled pulling back. “No time to be sappy,”
“Same” I smiled
“See you soon.”
“Of course,” I smiled a couple of moments later she was gone. I walked back in the house straight to the bed room. “Baby what’s the time?”
“715,”
“Shit I have to get ready for work,” I snapped going for the bag that I put all my ‘need it asap’ stuff in. “Will all this stuff be okay til morning?” I asked Shannon.
“of course, come here?” he said I looked at him. I knew what he wanted, I didn't know if I had time. I walked over anyway.
“What,”
“Come here,” he said grabbing my waist pulling me on too the bed laying on top of me. Kissing me hard.
“Baby I have to go to work,”
“Give me five minutes,” he said shoving his hand down my pants. “You’re obviously in the mood,”
“I know but I’m” he kissed me pulling my hands above my head holding them in place as he undressed my bottom half. Then his own pushing inside me thrusting at a high speed as soon as he was in.
I let out a soft moan and pulled my hands out of his grip wrapping my arms around his back, as he pounded my core, both of making noises. Shannon rested his forehead on mine.
“You’re amazing” he whispered. “This is amazing,” he breathed. I pushed my lips into his “We can do this whenever we want,” he breathed a moment later my body tensed, I felt the release we were both waiting for. He fell to my side soothing my stomach. I started taking deep breaths to try and catch it so I could shower.
“I love you,” Shannon said kissing my cheek. I looked over at him. He smiled softly.
“I love you too,”
I got to work a couple of minutes early, I had time to ask the shift manager the protocol of talking to the store manager about what the dr wanted me too.
“You’re on check out 2 tonight,”
“Who’s on customer?”
“Rissa,”
“Okay,” I nodded grabbing my books, pen, and water.
“You know the rules, no reading if customers are anywhere nearby”
“I know,” I said walking to the checkout.
It was so quiet tonight, it was a blessing in disguise I had an essay due last night god know’s what else.
“Oh hey Tatiana,” I looked up to see the guy from anger management, what was his name? Chester? He was with two friends. “Guys, this is Tatiana,”
“Yeah, I figured that by her name tag,” one with big hair said. “Good notice Chaz,”
“This is Brad, he’s a joker”
“Oh. . . hahaha” I said closing my book standing up straight.
“Anyway, this is Tatiana, she likes leopards,”
“You already introduced me,” Me I smiled.
“I didn’t say the leopard part,” he grinned.
“Again, fine detective work, Chester,” the other guy said pointing to the book I just put by the register. His eyes met mine he was smiling, it was cute, yet shy. “If you wanted to talk to the pretty girl, you could have just said so,”
“So um. . . are you guys shopping?”
“Right,” Chester said pushing off the conveyer belt. “We’ll be right back, is this trolley being used?” I shook my head. They went off a customer came through, I did the usual smile and serve. They didn’t have much so it was pretty quick. The coast was clear, I went back to reading. There was some interesting information in this book about leopard life spans. I had written a lot of notes tonight.
“You look busy,” I heard there was an old lady putting her basket on the conveyer belt.
“No,” I smiled. “I’m breaking the rules,” I said putting the book to the side.
“This time of night there’s often nothing better to do,” she told.
“I don’t know, a lot of people seem to be shopping,” I smiled. Noticing Chester and his friends line up behind her.
“What are you reading?” The lady asked.
“Life of leopards,” I said holding up the book.
“Leopards are beautiful,” the lady said putting the basket at the end of the register.
“They really are,” I smiled. “They’re my favorite,” I told smirking back to Chester’s friend who questioned it earlier. “You’re writing too?”
“Taking notes,” I said putting her bottle of drink in the bag. “I’m studying,”
“Studying leopards, that must be amazing.”
“It has its moments,” I smiled. “Do you have a rewards card?” I asked she shook her head” That’s $43.20, cash or credit?”
“credit, dear,” she said pulling her card out paying.
“Be careful out there,” I said softly.
“My son’s in the car, dear you need not worry,” she said I smiled kindly as she walked off.  “paper or plastic?” I asked
“Plastic,”
“Murder” I joked
“You can talk?” Chester teased.
“Dude, you’ve met me once,” I laughed.
“Speaking of, where were you today?”
“I had some things to take care of,”
“Will you be there tomorrow?”
“Maybe,” I shrugged.
“So you really do like leopards,” the other guy asked.
“I really do,” I smiled. “And my name is really Tatiana,” he grinned looking into my eyes again. “I have been confused for Wanda Maximoff though,”
“Nah, you’re prettier than her,” he said I rose my eyebrows before looking away.
“Woah, I think that’s the first time I’ve ever seen Mike flirt,” Chester laughed.
“Awwh, Mikey,” Brad cheered. Rubbing the guy’s shoulder.
“I wasn’t flir-“
“It so was,” Chester teased.
I put my head down and did my job. I was flirted with a lot in this job, the issue was that I had to sit in a group with Chester three days a week.I noticed there was alcohol on the conveyer belt.
“Who’s paying,” I asked looking at the guys.
“Me,” Chester said looking at me.
“I need to see ID’s,” I told grabbing the alcohol.
“I’m betting we’re all older then you, sweetheart,” Brad said.
“it’s for my dad anyway,” Chester grumbled.
“Wow, imagine how unhappy he would be if you didn’t show me ID’s,” I said.
“Guy’s it’s not that hard,” Mike said pulling out his wallet showing me his card.
“Woah. . . when’s your birthday?” I questioned looking up at him.
“February 11th,”
“Same,” I grinned.
“That’s cool,” he laughed. I looked at the other two.
“March 20, my boyfriend is March 9th.” I smiled. “December okay, you can buy the alcohol,”
“It’s not even for us,” Chester snapped.
“I have to follow protocol, no matter who it’s for,” I shrugged. “I’m not apologizing,” I said. “That’s $108.65, Cash or credit,”
“Cash,” Chester said handing over the money. “I’ll see you tomorrow, right?”
“Depends, I have to try and see my boss,” I shrugged. “to sort it all out,”
“Right” he nodded. “See ya,”
“Bye leopard girl,” Brad called walking off.
“Sorry,” Mike said softly, “They’re weird,”
“They’re your friends,” I smiled meeting his soft, shy eyes again.

I’m Sorry, Logan
(I'm not talking about Logan Sanders, but I do have a character named Logan that’s based loosely off of him. TW: Suicide)
I wake up to my alarm blaring in my ears. My eyelids refuse to lift and the world is a blurry mess.  I stumbled into my uniform, the alarm still blaring.  Eventually my patience ran out and I shut off the alarm. My backpack is lying in the corner and I shove it on. I grab a granola bar from the pantry and run to the school bus that’s already parked outside.
I jump into the bus. I walk down the aisle and all of the noise, ranging from random conversation to yelling and fighting, fill my ears and overwhelm my mind. I almost want to plug my ears, but someone’s bound to take offense. As I sit down in a seat next to the seemingly quietest kids, the horrible stench of  7 year old raisins with a generous side of sweaty gym socks permeates my nose.  I hate the bus. I decide to try to space out.
When I arrive at the school, I went into the girl’s bathroom and wait until everyone had left the bathroom. I look really weird waiting for people to leave, and I kind of care. I kind of don’t though. Once everyone had gone, I slipped out of my catholic school uniform skirt and into pants.
My mother had refused to get me anything but the “girl’s” uniform which consisted of a tight, long skirt and a blouse. I hear the bell and run to class. I burst into the classroom and slide into my seat directly after my name is called.
“Late.” I  groan and get out my homework. Why must it be me?
Vanessa and her friends snicker across the classroom. “Hey look, the plant’s here.”
My ears burned and I clenched my teeth. Those assholes. I’m not a plant. “My name’s El-” My eyes widen as I catch myself. “-Ellie.”
Vanessa gasps overdramatically and then says, “It can talk?!”
I don’t respond and give her what she wants, but it takes all of my strength not to. God, how am I so stupid? I don’t care if I’m using the Lord’s name in vain. I already let them know I was asexual! And if I let it slip? My name’s Elliott. I could just imagine the crap they’d do and say to me. What would I tell them? Oh yeah, by the way, I’m pangender. That would totally work.
I take deep breaths. I look at the teacher and zoning out is easy for me. The lunch bell rings after a while and I walk towards the courtyard, finding one of the trees in the corner that no one ever sat by. It’s kind of sad and droopy, just like me.
“Hey Elliott!” I flinch at the noise. He smiles and sits down next to me.
I relax and say, “Hey Logan. How was the class?”
“How was class? Class was bull crap,” I crack a smile and when I do, he adds “as always. I love how you did your hair today. It’s pretty.”
As I eat my brought-from-home lunch, I look at him and blush. He’s way too cute. I now turn even redder and look away as I shove my sandwich farther into my mouth. Too far. The lunch bell rings after a few minutes. “Well, I’ll see you tomorrow Logan. Bye!”
He high fives me and starts walking towards his classroom. I walk towards mine. After Mr. Simon takes role call and I answer one question, I figure I’m safe and promptly space out for the rest of the day.
The bell rings and right as I’m about to walk out of the door, I heard Mr. Simon say, “Eleanor, may I speak to you?” A collective ‘oooh, you’re in trouble’ type sound comes from what’s remaining of the class as I walk up to his desk.
“Can I help you Mr. Simon?”
“Do you remember the dress code guidelines we went over at the beginning of the year?”
I start to panic. “Uh, yeah.”
“Then you remember that girls are to wear skirts and a blouse and that boys are to wear a button down and pants.”
I nodded my head as if I understand, which I don’t, and then walk out of the classroom. I know he hates me, but I had no clue he would go to these lengths to get me in trouble. I really don’t want to wear a skirt and that was only the first time I wore pants. On the other hand, I don’t want them to get taken away because I had to save up for months to get them and I don’t want to have to deal with my parents.
As I walk home, I approach the entrance to the Golden Gate Bridge and smile. It’s so beautiful. Late afternoon fog is quite unusual this time of year and most people don’t like it, but I’m secretly happy about it. Walking the bridge is a really nice way to clear your mind in the morning. The breeze makes my clothes flow in the wind. The smell of salt water in the air fills my nose as I approach one end of the bridge.
I start to cross the bridge and into the fog. It’s peaceful and the moist air feels cool and nice against my skin.
After around 45 minutes, I come out on the other side of the bridge. I continue to walk towards my house.
I can’t wait to lay down on the couch and not worry about homework.  Not because I finished it, but because I’m a procrastinator.
I turn down my street and see my house. As I approach it, I realize that my house has been egged. I see a note on the door and run up and grab it. Leave our school, you faggot. You don’t belong here.
Vanessa, her boyfriend, and their asshole friends were right about the last part. I don’t belong here. I wish I could leave, but it isn’t exactly possible. I rip up the note and look up at the eggs that are covering my home.
Ugh, I don’t want to clean this up… but my parents will ask why it happened if I don’t. Plus, they’ll make me do it anyway. I sigh as I slowly walk inside to grab a mop and some other cleaning supplies.
I open the closet door and grab everything I think I might need. I’ve never cleaned up eggs, so I’m just guessing.
I walk back outside and start to wipe the door with a random rag that I found. Once I finish cleaning everything that I can reach from the ground, I place all my supplies on the roof overhang. I awkwardly climb onto the overhang. P
I got on my knees shakily and started to clean the roof. Damn, could these kids throw. It takes what seems like years, but was really a couple hours to finish cleaning the house.
I take a risk and jump from the overhang. I didn’t break any bones! Yay!  I grab all the cleaning supplies and shove them in a closet as I walk to my room. I get changed into some paint stained jeans and a band t-shirt that my parents begrudgingly bought me for Christmas.
I walk back out and throw myself on the couch. I log into an app that’s similar to tumblr except not as widely known. It has less asshole-ish people. I open a chat with one of my best friends,  AchillesWasTheOriginalGay™ also known as Bentley or Ben. Sometimes I call him Benjamin because he hates when people assume his name.
Me: What’s up, Benjamin?
He responds almost immediately.
Ben: You’re an ass. But not much. You?
Me: House got egged. Assholes at school.
Ben: Oof that sucks, dude.
Ben: Hey I gtg do homework. Talk later?
Me: Sure.
I turn off my phone and put it down. I hear my mom pull up so I sit up and take out my school binder. I place my homework from yesterday in front of me so I look like I’ve been doing homework since the second I got home.
Directly after I finished setting up my fake homework station, she walked in. “Hey, mom!” No, too cheery. Calm down.
She smiles happily, “Hi, Ellie!” I cringe at my old name, but she didn’t seem to notice my overly excited greeting. “How was your day?” My little sister, Adia follows her in and then runs to our room.
I consider telling her that it wasn’t great for a second but decide against it, because she’d just ask questions. “It was good. Yours?”
“It was fine. Busy as always.” I give her a knowing nod and then I see her smile slowly fade. I tilt my head in confusion. “What did I tell you about those jeans? You can only wear them when you’re painting. They’re disgusting and baggy. Wear some nice tights next time.”
I roll my eyes and she scoffs as she walks into the kitchen. She puts her bags down. Adia runs back out of our room with a stuffed animal in her hands and she sits down next to me.
“Hi Adia. Did you have fun at school today?”
”Yeah!! I played with Sammy.”
“That’s fun.” She smiles proudly as if having a friend was something to be proud of, which in my case, is true, but in her case, not so much. She has lots of friends.
I’m contemplating this when I hear my mom start to reheat leftovers from last night. She slaps all of the food on three plates and we trudge over to the table and sit down.
My mom turns on the T.V. and we watch a sitcom as we shovel food into our faces. Eventually, the episode ends. We're too lazy to change the channel, so we leave it.
My mom is seated facing the screen and I watch her chuckle. I turn to the T.V. and freeze. It's a pride parade. All of a sudden I hear Adia’s excited voice.
“Ooooh! Rainbows!” I look at her and smile a little bit. She doesn’t even know. Sometimes I wish I don’t know about LGBTQ+.
“Those rainbows are for gay people.” My mom says gay as if it’s the worst thing you can be.
Mom continues, “You don’t want to be gay. Being gay is bad. You’ll go to hell if you’re gay.”
Now she just looked confused. “Why is it bad?”
“Because a man is supposed to be with a woman.
“No hug? No ‘Hi daddy!’ or ‘Thanks for working your ASS off every day to provide for us’ ?”
My first instinct is to pull Adia closer to me and step one foot in front of her. My second instinct is to throw something at him so we can all run.
I hold back. Mom’s too close to dad. She would never be able to run away in time. He could hit her. Even break a bottle over her head and kill her. She’s not a good person, but she doesn’t deserve that.
“Go. To your rooms. Now.” I turn to my mom in utter surprise.
“But mom-“
“GO. NOW.”
I grab Adia and make sure she’s safe and locked in her room before running to mine. I press my ear against the door because I might be able to get an idea of what’s happening. I can’t hear anything.
I slump down and hang my head in my hands. Holy christ, what is wrong with my family?? Why doesn’t she just kick him out when he’s hungover? Why don’t WE leave?
I can't deal with this.
I'm sobbing now. I clench my teeth to trap the noise in my mouth.
Over the course of a few minutes, I draw myself up onto my knees and then stand up, walking over to sit down at my desk and start to scribble words that seem right on a paper. After a minute of writing, I reread it. It's not good enough. I crumple up the piece of paper and throw it in the trash.
I hug my knees tightly, trying not to make any form of sound. My breathing slows back to normal the longer to sit there and I grab another piece of paper. I start to write once again, this time neater.
I wake up the same way as yesterday. I put on my pants and blouse. I don’t care if Mr. Simon tries to force me to wear a skirt. I’m not taking any bullcrap on my last day of school. And life.
I walk onto the bus and don’t even pay any attention to the kids that are already on it. I hear a kid yell “Get off, dyke!” and I resist flipping him off… well, I try to resist flipping him off.
I take my time walking into the classroom and I sit next to Logan. A kid comes up to me.
“Hey. How was your day?” He laughs and then adds, “Holy crap that was such a mom question.”
I snort and answer, “Oh my god, you’re right. But it was good. I’m tired as heck though.”
“No kidding.” I grin at him as Mr. Simon looks at us again. I don’t really pay attention in math. I just talk to Logan. It’s relaxing to not have to care. To not have to worry about the consequences to my actions.
When we walk to lunch, I start complaining to Logan about how much of the day we have left.
“Uhh, you know that we have an early day, right?”
“Oh! I do now.” He chuckles and smiles. I feel my cheeks get a little bit warm. He starts to talk about some fandom of his and I try my hardest to pay attention.
I don’t really know what triggers this, although I have an idea, but I realize something. I’ve never kissed someone. Ok, this needs to change. Dying a virgin is one thing, but never having kissed someone? That’s a whole other level of sad. I feel weird thinking this, but I know exactly who I want to be my first and last kiss.
He’s about to start another thought, but I interrupt him. I don’t care. “You’re amazing.”
He looks at me as if I said the strangest thing that could possible said. “I mean it. You’re always there for me and you talk to me about things we like. I feel I don’t thank you enough for that.”
He still looks weirded out but smiles warmly.
We’re laughing so hard we can barely breathe. When we reach the bridge, were both out of breath. We bend over and start panting like dogs on a hot day.
I break into a full sprint and he starts to chase me. We're laughing so hard we can barely breathe. When we reach the bridge, were both out of breath. We bend over and start panting like dogs on a hot day.
I stand up straight again and look at him. His face is glowing and his brown eyes are big and happy. He runs his hand through his slicked back (with both gel and sweat) hair and adjusts his glasses. He even tightens his tie. What a dork.
I know this is the moment. I move closer to him and pull his tie towards me with one arm and put the other around him as I kiss him.
The salty air blows through my hair and I feel on top of the world. After a couple of seconds, I step away. He looks confused. He wasn't ok with it. Oh god, what have I done? I'm about to keep running down the bridge when he hugs me.
This time, I'm the unprepared one. After a minute, he lets go and slides his hand into mine. We continue walking across the bridge. There's nothing we need to say and it feels amazing.
We don't have to explain ourselves. We can just walk quietly together. And it's not awkward.
My happiness fades away as I realize this is the first and last time I’ll be able to do this. I couldn’t change my mind if I wanted to. I already taped the note on to his backpack when he hugged me. This has to be the last time. Nothing good can last forever. Nothing can last forever.
We reach the other side. “Goodbye, Logan.”
He laughs. “You say it like this is the last time I’ll ever see you. This is just goodbye for now. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
I feel my heart shatter a little bit more than it already had but I cover it up with a soft smile. “Yeah. It’s just goodbye for now.” He leans in and kisses my cheek and then whirls around.
He starts to walk towards his house. I turn towards the water.
Falling.
Falling.
Falling.
Gone.
