Random doodles, a rare Richter moment too lol
Explanations and such:
Simon gaming and Richter is watching :). The text says “(Richter) Whatcha playin :3”, “(Simon) FUCK”, “(he got a Safe in Project Diva)”, “(Richter) Oh, I see.”. He was playing the song Gothic and Loneliness btw. On one of the harder modes. Almost perfected it 😔.
The top doodle is just Simon with sharp teeth, idk maybe they’re like left over from the curse or something lol. Bottom drawing is an attempt at drawing their Smash Bros outfits by memory since I haven’t in a long time.
Slime scooping videos will be the death of me I keep getting stuck watching like a ton of them and I don’t even know why 💀💀💀. So I drew Simon doing that cause uh yeah XD.
Text says “both overwhelmed”. Just imagine this is both of them after some long social event lol.
Rare Richter section of a page! It’s also a Mesmerizer reference 💀💀💀. I was gonna draw Alucard to compliment this, but I completely forgot and had already put other things on the page next to it so eeeehhhh. Richter’s hair is very fun, but I draw it differently every time. Then again I feel like it’s probably a texture where it kinda curls at a certain length and goes everywhere, so it works. I like to think that he’d always had it short enough that it didn’t curl before SotN and was surprised lol.
Yay drawing characters you like doing things you do part 2, Simon is drawing :3. He’d probably draw like some of the most violent and concerning but technically impressive imagery and then follow that up immediately with a page of cute animals and some character (idk I’ve already made him play Project Diva in this post let’s say Rin or Miku as an example lmao)
Text says “love this guy, the Richard”. Haha yeah, the Richer, Mr Richter Scale Belmont.
Random doodle of Simon wearing clothes cause I was listening to music and got the vibes. I don’t remember what song tho unfortunately (TwT).

MR5, woot woot! THAT test was the hardest of them all- they wanted me to hack 6 things in a row. Never ask me to do this again. PLEASE.
I'm done with farming for now and getting back to quests, and I have a weird feeling that I got spoiled with some info too soon by doing the Heart of Deimos mission and
being told that apparently, those huge people made me? cool. Nice to know. I like the look of their old buildings, very gold and white, so I can vibe with that. OH and it suddenly makes sense why the extraction points in Orokin ruins look so conveniently designed- because they were designed to be landing points for Frame aircraft. Neat.
Me and Daughter are really vibing, mostly because I applaud her choice of blasting a boyband at full volume on a moon entirely taken over by eldritch mutated meat growth. The horrors persists but we stay silly.
Despite having now... 20 hours in the game, wow, I still run face-first into walls and fall off the map. I applaud Lotus for still wanting me on any missions despite that, though considering how often she tells me to "Focus, Tenno" she might have figured out I just have ADHD and usually forget to put on glasses. She scares me with some of her warnings though- when raiding Vaults, she sometimes says "something's wrong" and DOESN'T ELABORATE. MA'AM. PLEASE. DETAILS.
Also it took my bro a few tries to hammer it into my head that during the drilling missions, when Lotus tells me "The scanner has picked up a target. Go to the dig site" I'm supposed to STAY exactly where I was. Lotus please WHY are you telling me to go somewhere else and then nag me about my excavator getting destroyed 😭 I'm just a little gal, I can't receive this many orders at once, you already know I woke up from the coma a bit uh... uncalibrated.
Anyway, I just finished Stolen Dreams and... well that was a plot hook if I've ever seen one. I am more confused than before that mission. The Codices sound like a random MacGuffin, but I must assume they will show up later and this was just a set up that they even exist. The message though? About "the womb of the sky" being empty? Yeesh thanks ominous machine. Good to know. I'll just. I'll just leave you to it, thanks.
So. It's fun playing a warmachine that goes through enemies like a lightsaber through butter, even if I'm clearly one that lost some vital brain matter during the coma.

-a poem on lingering love-
birthed by
a breakup
the breakup
my breakup
andthisFleabagscene
[With All This Love]
I, with foolish pride,
carry and heave all this cherished love,
somehow unbroken,
but sickeningly blessed and swollen,
overnourished to the brim with tacit tons and garrulous gallons of heedless affection I cannot outswim,
like cells that ceaselessly multiply,
tearing me limb from limb while they
goodheartedly align and coalesce into cancerous love whereby I convalesce,
but killing me on a headless whim,
yet these cells are all mine,
forged and bathed with and in harmful care,
and still my proud design.
I held on with heartstrings and lung tissue,
morphed my biology into a finder of oxygen and sustenance in you,
but you held on via spider silk with slippery hands
I insisted I’d baptize with impassioned love and foolish future plans,
you held to me like the suicidal would to life:
flimsily, halfheartedly, knifed.
I carry now a wounded heart that holds its breath till it turns blue as punishment when I think of you;
my lungs now boycott O2,
they lead a conspiracy theory that every molecule is
carbon monoxide in disguise,
another potential you,
but they’ll come to trust,
they’ll come around,
no matter how unwise,
despite how unsound.
••
You left me with gargantuan love I couldn’t expel,
so I kept it all in my chest which nobody could tell,
until cacti protruded from my ribcage one day
and asked for the nearest desert so I pointed inward and begged it to stay.
My friends protested and detestably elected to evict the cacti
as I,
against deepest wishes, complied and,
as this poem’s title would imply,
lay rueful, requesting gentleness,
asserting that the DNA of my foolish soul
resided somewhere in that beloved mess.
After the marring, after this horror,
I took what survived to bury,
but it rebelled and blossomed into a rosemary-laden garden,
spoke a few potato rhymes,
then blew into unkempt hyacinths of proportions upsized,
but with no single rue in sight,
and it all felt inextricably right,
but as I was ill-versed in the tending of gardens,
it had to go,
plus the neighbors thought it unsightly,
this unendeared perennial field I half-intended not to sow.
•••
I deemed Earth unworthy of such indefinite life,
so flung it I did, spacebound, my cosmonaut;
it landed on some lifeless planet ungraced,
no whisper, no thought,
then sentience enflamed,
life had boomed,
atomically, they claim.
They thus visited me,
onerically,
“I am not your progenitor, leave me.”
“But look here, your silly soul’s DNA, we bleed thee.”
I sigh, half-lovingly.
They then ask how they came to be,
I say, weakly:
“Foolishly, but heavenly.”
••••
Its next form was a poem made for two,
I guess it wrote itself seeing as it’s a feat we planned but couldn’t do.
It was written with stardust,
frolicked midair,
and foolishly penned by “Intangible We”;
it told me,
“I die except on one day:
the eve of September 3.”
It tugged on my heart,
asked to be read,
I couldn’t tell it she had left so instead
I read
and read,
with dread, I read,
this fragment of death full of life,
it took me till daylight to finish the thing,
the recital nigh left me dead;
it blistered my cords,
ulcerated my tongue,
rendered my body unyoung,
even the parts she had shred,
unwritten, unsaid,
I persisted to read undone,
for what sin can one pin on a poem that asks
to be heard, fulfilled, and sung?
•••••
The last day it came as an orphan,
I shouted “not mine” but the twitch in its eye was a feature I couldn’t deny,
the same that I had when she left,
of which now I am sorely bereft.
It just sat there and wept, and wept, and wept,
drawing Ws and Ms on the wall,
the inverted letter we shared,
a dear fact I try not to recall.
I told it my name fit snugly in hers,
and how when I smiled she’d draw
a signet just by my wrinkling eye,
a seal that I had to declaw;
it smiled and the و was revealed,
then inquired on why she would leave,
I made up some disease to put it at ease,
a fib only kids could believe,
that it wasn’t really her choice,
that her hands were unsteady and moist,
and I said, with a foolish unconfident voice,
“Kites would not give her their strings,
she couldn’t clap nor wear any rings,
only 69 songs could calm both her hands,
which said pain is all that love brings;
she held you but you kept on slipping,
so I tearfully kept you—the most—in my arms,
then shame engulfed and embraced her,
so she left, but not without qualms.”
It half-believed me, but I did not,
it then hugged me feebly
—herein set in the rot
pulse waned, breath gone,
it merged into me undistraught,
unpained, indrawn
toward its little corner of my world’s plot,
a grave marked by nothing,
a grave I did not dig but honored still, darling.
••••••
No visits after that,
how does one visit oneself?
No detrital revenants,
no perpetually returning love,
no remnants;
you can only return to the thing you had left,
but this love is sacrilegiously kept
and indwells my all
to be used and bring mirth
to loved ones, myself, and everything else,
this love I’ll send forth to the earth.

(screen-reader friendly version) Two Sides of the Same Coin - Chapter 12: unfortunate
Logan and Remus are talking quietly on the other side of the room when Virgil sits up with no warning.
“Acorn!” he yells, and poor Patton jumps.
“Excuse me?” inquires Logan, one eyebrow raised.
“My frog. I left him in my room. I hope he’s okay, but I can’t leave him there.” Virgil struggles to get up. He pushes away Patton’s hands as he attempts to help, but as Virgil tries to stand, he makes a strangled sound and clutches at his left eye. He doubles over.
“Virgil?” Patton says, face scared.
“M… my eye…” His head pounds again, and he’s no longer able to block it out, but on top of that, there’s a sharp pain that jabs at the back of his eye, persistent and excruciating.
After a minute, the pain has subsided. Virgil pulls his hand away from his face, eye still closed, and, to his utmost horror, there’s some kind of black tar on his hand that’s awfully reminiscent of the exact shade of black of his sclera. He glances at Logan and then at Remus, hand tilted down so they can see why he’s so frightened. He can feel himself starting to cry, and he rubs at his open eye, only to find that even his tears are black. “Oh, oh god, what…?”
“Virgil.” Virgil forces himself to look at Logan. “I promise you I’ll figure out what’s happening to you. It might take me a little longer, but I will figure it out.” He rubs at the bridge of his nose. “I’ll get Acorn for you. It would be unwise for you as you are now to leave this room. I will be back soon.”
The hallway is empty when Logan steps out of Remus’ room, to his relief. He strides across the hall to Virgil’s door.
There’s a tank on the far side of the room, situated on a table against the wall, but as Logan draws closer, he sees that it’s empty. “Acorn?” he calls softly—this is silly, would a frog really respond to its name?—searching the room with his eyes. There’s a very quiet croaking sound, and Logan traces it back to Virgil’s bed. He’d rather not do this, but he gets on his hands and knees, and, sure enough, underneath the bed is a small brown frog.
“I’m not going to hurt you.” He can’t quite reach. The frog stares at him. “Virgil’s worried about you.” The frog—wasn’t his name Acorn?—takes a small hop closer to Logan. Yes, that’s it. Can he… understand what Logan’s saying? “I came here to get you and bring you to him.” Another hop closer. He holds his breath until Acorn is sitting in the palm of his hand, then carefully wriggles back out from underneath the bed. He adjusts his shirt, which was riding up, tucking it back into his waistband.
He stares back at Acorn. “I… suppose I can see the appeal. Your large eyes create an illusion of innocence, which could contribute to you appearing to most people in a way that could be described as… adorable.”
Logan exits Virgil’s room with no trouble, closing the door with a quiet click.
There’s Remus’ door. He hurries to get inside. The longer he’s away from the other sides and alone out in the open, the more exposed he is.
Wait. No.
This isn’t right. He was just over there, but he's back in front of Virgil's door. He remembers walking to Remus’ door.
The shadows are hungry.
Logan walks to Remus’ door. Again, he's back where he started. Stay calm, Logan. This may be an illogical situation, but it isn’t one you can’t handle.
It’s too dark. This is all wrong.
He can't see the end of the hallway or the place where the stairs are supposed to be. The shadows are too thick, and they move. He knows that after what happened with Virgil it's not just a trick of the mind. He wishes he could summon a weapon like Remus' morning star or Roman's sword, but he's not a Creativity side and he isn't in the Imagination, so he can't freely summon things at will. Instead, he subconsciously pulls Acorn closer to his chest in his cupped hands.
Logan’s eyes dart from side to side in an attempt to keep his gaze on as much of the shadows as he can. What next? If going forward isn’t an option… try going the other way.
When he walks far enough in the other direction, he’s right back where he started. Again.
Well, if Logan can’t reach the others, he should at least go back to Virgil’s room—maybe he’ll be safe there.
If something happens to him, will they even know?
The door is locked. Impossible. It had swung open with ease before, and Logan doesn’t think he’d locked it when he left.
Had he?
The shadows swarm nearer.
Logan tries the door handle again. Pulls so hard it rattles the door on its hinges. Please.
He can feel them—no, it.
[glitchy text] The Darkness. [end glitchy text]
It’s calling to him, and Logan can’t let himself answer.
The door handle still doesn’t turn. Logan takes a closer look, and the gray door is beginning to crack. Not the kind of cracks that come from damaged wood. Not those cracks. No, these are the cracks that cover Roman’s walls. They’re lengthening and deepening even as he watches, and as Logan observes (one hand on the door), one of the cracks touches his hand.
He jerks back as if he’s been burned— [glitchy text] yes [end glitchy text], no, [glitchy text] come to me [end glitchy text], I refuse, [glitchy text] join me [end glitchy text], get out of my head —
What can he do? What is he supposed to do?
Logan turns to face the hallway, his heart figuratively beating in his throat.
Something flickers in front of him, appears on the ground—an enormous yellow snake. It opens its maw, sharp teeth menacing. Is it going to bite him?
The sound that comes from the snake is a hiss. Logan knows that, deep down. But he can understand the one word amidst the hissing.
Run.
The snake is gone.
Logan doesn’t need to be told twice. As panic starts to rise up in his throat—or is that bile—he takes off at a full sprint. Where is he going? Away, just away, if he can escape, behind him the whispers from [glitchy text] the Darkness grow louder and louder [end glitchy text]—
And then Logan runs into something solid. Someone. Instinctively, he knows who it is, even before he lifts his head to look.
(At some point while fleeing, he’d dropped Acorn—maybe he’ll be safe, Logan hopes Acorn will be safer away from him.)
Logan finds himself staring into the face of Roman. His eyes are crazed, and his smile doesn’t seem quite right—it makes it appear almost as if his face is warped unnaturally, like melting candle wax.
I’m sorry, Virgil. I promised you I’d figure it out, but I think perhaps I’m too late.
“I’ve been looking for you.” And there’s a sickening crack and a blossom of pain as Roman brings the hilt of his sword up to hit Logan over the head with it. Then, nothing.

[ID: Trigun Stampede fanart comparing Knives and Vash in canon vs in a food service AU. Canon Knives looks forward with a neutral expression and is labeled "little tired but kinda dgaf". McDonald's Knives emits a weary sigh and is labeled "genuinely so sick of it all."
Both Vashes are grinning and doing the same pose with a hand on the hip and the other hand flung forward in a peace sign. Both are labeled "witnesses the horrors persisting daily but still stays silly," but McDonald's Vash is labeled "got tipped $50 as a teen" and canon Vash is labeled "just has a jesus complex." MASTERLIST
—————————————————
Waiting for Spencer Reid was an interesting position to be in. It was also, unfortunately, very, very common. You would think the IQ points would translate to efficiency, but you’d be very wrong. The only thing that boy does fast is read, and even that didn’t follow through to text messages, considering he’d read none of the six I’d sent him in the past hour.
So, naturally, as one does in an emergency, I called him. Unsurprisingly, the phone barely rang a second time before he picked up. Talking was, as we were both aware, his forte. Without even waiting for my greeting, his groggy voice came through the receiver with a song-like sound.
“Hello, little girl.”
But it wasn’t his turn to sing, and he knew damn well why I was calling. I could hear the smirk on his face so well that I could also envision exactly what he looked like in that moment, with his fluffy hair sticking up from constantly running his hands through it and his eyes only half-open as he tried to finish reading whatever horrible thing that he had in front of him.
It wasn’t how anyone should be spending their birthday. Especially not him. There wasn’t really anything I could do about it, though that didn’t make it any easier to hear the exhaustion and sadness behind that scratchy voice.
“What’re you doing up late? It’s past your bedtime, you know,” he chastised before I even had a chance to speak. He wasn’t wrong — It was 3AM where I was. But where he was, it’d just hit midnight.
“I just wanted to wish a happy birthday to my favorite old man,” I purred back once I’d managed to calm my fast-beating heart. I wondered if I’d ever get used to the brief rush of adrenaline and relief when I heard his voice for the first time after some time away.
I hoped not.
Spencer didn’t seem impressed by my reasoning, though. “You’re sweet. Go to sleep.”
“You’re up, too,” I whined, still picturing the way he would undoubtedly pull the phone further away to lessen the noise. I almost asked if he was also picturing me but stopped when I realized that whatever he had in mind was probably a lot more exciting than reality. Then again, he often told me that moments like this were his favorite. When we’re both too tired to keep our eyes open but too happy to be with each other to let them close all the way.
“Barely,” he corrected.
“Besides, I had to stay up. It’s your birthday.”
I’d meant to lift his spirits, but the long pause after I finished made it evident that my efforts were for naught. He almost seemed even more upset than when he’d answered, and I tried to convince myself that it had nothing to do with me. It wasn’t that hard, considering he was probably staring at images or words of dead people.
“Yeah, sure feels like it.”
His tone alone ensured me it was worse than my imagination.
“Put your work down and pay attention to me instead,” I suggested as softly as I could with the neediness bleeding through, “That’s the first part of your present.”
“You’re my present?” he asked through a gruff laugh that made my heart skip a beat, “I like that present.”
He was trying. I could feel it in his voice, and I wished more than anything that I could teleport to where he was and hold him until it was too difficult for his mouth to form a frown.
“You already have me. That’d be like regifting,” I pointed out with only a pinch of self-deprecation. It was still too much for Spencer, though, who swiftly shot back the ever cheesy, “Every day with you is a gift.”
“Gross, don’t get all sentimental with me,” I ordered playfully.
He returned the energy with all the sass I always knew he was capable of. Once his whining ceased, he mumbled, “Do you come with a gift receipt?”
“No returns or exchanges allowed, I’m afraid.”
Spencer just let out a strained sigh, and in my head, I imagined how it would feel to climb onto his lap as he leaned back in his chair. I could almost feel his arms wrapping around my waist and his lips peppering kisses wherever he could reach. I could feel his love for me flowing across the country, persisting past the cell tower obstacles to make its way back to me.
“I can’t wait to see you again,” he whispered, his first purely sincere statement of the night.
It was an unfortunate choice, too, because it also reminded me of the biggest bummer that I unfortunately had to share.
“Oh, I meant to tell you, it’s midterm season, so…”
He was, thankfully, not as bummed as I was expecting. He was almost certainly thrilled to have a chance to sleep spread out on his bed without having to satisfy the very needy girl beside him, but he still managed to come up with enough bratty energy to scoff, “Are you telling me that I don’t get my gift when I get home?”
“It’ll just be a few days. Promise,” I spoke through the biggest, cheesiest smile I’d had yet. “You’re very distracting, Dr. Reid.”
“When are your exams?” His enthusiasm gave away just how disappointed he was with the news, but any frustration was clearly aimed at my poor professors.
“My last one is on Wednesday.”
The gasp that left him was too funny not to laugh, followed by exasperated, blubbered nonsense that didn’t ever get much clearer. I barely managed to understand him when he cried, “Don’t they know Halloween should be a national holiday?!”
“You should call my professors and yell at them.”
He actually considered it for a moment, but then returned the same silly intonation, “Maybe I will.”
“Do it. You’re probably more qualified than them to teach me, anyway.”
After a short silence that was filled with more sexual tension than I’d expected considering how the phone call started, I heard Spencer gruffly comment, “You’re a cocky little brat tonight.”
It was so familiar to me that I jumped on the opportunity, giggling through my sleep deprived delirium, “I’m in rare form for your birthday.”
The explanation earned me a chuckle, but not much else. At least, not that I could see. The static on the other end of the phone sounded a lot like the way it looked when Spencer leaned his face against his palm and tried to see something that wasn’t there.
But I was there. Sort of. We’d done a lot more with a lot less, after all. So, that’s what I offered him.
“You know… we could have a redo of the last time I called you late at night on a case.”
“That did not end well for me last time,” he droned. I tried not to laugh at the manufactured memory of Spencer holed up in a hotel bathroom because he just had to have me in whatever way he could.
“Only happy endings for your birthday. I promise.”
But then, as it always did, work got in the way. Filled with only the greatest sadness and regret, Spencer quietly but honestly replied, “As much as I would love to, I don’t think it’ll be possible on this case.”
“Is it that bad?”
“Unfortunately.”
I bit my lip because there was nothing I could do. I couldn’t help Spencer with his work any more than I could fix the distance. All I could offer him was a safe home to return to. He would always find that with me.
“Well, in that case, I will be equipped with cartoons and kisses upon your return,” I offered with grace.
But I wasn’t the only one in rare form. Without skipping a beat, Spencer corrected with a smug sadness, “You mean your return. Considering you’re abandoning me on my birthday.”
“Oh my god, the drama!” I cried before remembering that it was, still, in fact, 3AM. The light grimace I gave after remembering would be the only apology my neighbors would get from me. I was too busy building a narrative happy enough to drown out the horrors in front of him. “You’d think I was the one who was away all the time.”
“I’m allowed to be selfish; it’s my birthday,” he sang, and I soaked in the sound, storing it away for any rainy days.
“Fine. What do you want, brat?” I asked in the worst attempt at an impression I’d ever given.
He was just waiting for the question. Drawing out the first couple of syllables, he laughed through the stupidest birthday wish of all time.
“I want… you to go to bed.”
“Ugh!” I yelled again, not even bothering to feel bad about it that time. My exasperation fell on deaf ears, both from a willful desire to ignore my suffering and a literal ringing from the constant yelling.
Still, that impossible man drummed up enough compassion to gloat with a simple, “I love you.”
“I love you, too, jerk,” I grumbled, only to be swiftly corrected with a playful, “Try that again.”
“I love you, too, old man.”
He was satisfied enough with that answer, despite the sarcasm dripping from it. He still knew that the words were true, and that was all that mattered. Any punishments that might be necessary for my broken promise to behave for his birthday could always be doled out later. When the distance between us was narrowed to inches and clothes could be removed like cheap wrapping paper.
“Thank you, little girl. Sweet dreams,” he whispered, reminding me once more of just how empty my bed felt without him. I stared at his pillow for just one second before I threw myself into it. He chuckled at the sound of rustling sheets over the receiver but said nothing else.
“You get some sleep tonight, too, okay?” I asked, uncharacteristically and openly vulnerable in a way that used to scare me.
Spencer’s voice was filled with pride and love as he answered, “You can’t see it, but I am giving you a pinky promise.”
“Good.” Burying my face in his pillow again made it easier to remember that it wouldn’t be forever when I said, “Bye, Spencer.”
“Goodnight, little girl.”
—————————————————
Autumn on campus felt pretty similar to the rest of the year. I wished that it were different, a little more exciting, to reflect how I felt about the impending holiday. But no, it was just students stumbling into their usual classes and hectically scheduled midterms with hangovers and a total lack of holiday cheer.
It was, in a few words, a complete bummer. The only thing that kept me going through the last of my exams was the knowledge that I’d be seeing Spencer. Unfortunately, he was still doing that rather annoying thing where he refused to answer my text messages. It wasn’t until he ignored even my most ridiculous threats that I realized something was going on.
The ‘Read’ notification sat menacingly on my screen, and I was so fixated on it that I almost didn’t notice the familiar mop of brown curls visible in the front row of the auditorium. But once I saw it, the phone was forgotten faster than ever before. I ran down the steps at a ridiculously dangerous pace, dodging the others still grumbling from their previous exams.
I landed in front of him with only enough breath left to sneer, “You’re in my seat.”
“Surprise,” he said with my favorite smug, self-assured smile.
“Adorable. Now move,” I ordered with a wave of my hand. As much as I loved the guy, I wasn’t about to change my seating arrangement for him. It was beginning to make sense, though, why my friend told me that she wouldn’t be sitting with me today.
“Fine,” he sighed, taking his sweet time moving seats and watching me happily bounce on my feet in the meantime. I snuck behind him into the seat before he’d even fully stood up. That little amount of friction between our bodies seemed to be enough to cause the tension to mount. It’d only been seconds, but I was already seriously considering abandoning the class. To hell with the professor who’d already seen me.
But Spencer’s eyes locked on mine, and he leaned onto the armrest with that same silly smirk.
“It’s a workday, Dr. Reid,” I whispered, forcing my arm next to his and watching the way his pupils grew as I came closer.
“I might have pulled a few strings,” he replied just as quietly, keeping the illusion of secrecy despite many prying eyes around us, “Might’ve told Hotch I was invited.”
“But you weren’t,” I snorted.
Spencer’s head hung in just a little bit of shame, but his wide smile never waned. It was still there, bright and pure in its simplicity as he softly admitted, “Yeah. I lied. But I’m here now.”
There were no complaints about that fact, either. His pinky reached out to mine, twining together in the dim light of the auditorium. Somehow, for a brief second, I forgot about everything else. The noisy chatter meant nothing to me, the two of us lost in some alternate pocket universe that felt safe and warm from the cold air outside.
But time resumed, and I watched as Spencer took his eyes off of me first, turning instead to the lecturer watching us with a knowing glint in his eyes.
“Good morning everyone! We have a special guest with us today.”
I wanted to pay attention to his little introduction, but I couldn’t. Every word that was said about him sounded so clinical. It felt so empty compared to the truth I knew about him. He was so much more than a collection of publications and PhDs.
He was… indescribable. Even as his mouth formed a flat line and his awkward handshake was granted to the crowds of disinterested students, all I saw was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. Even if it was only from the shadows of his greatness. Then again, I don’t think he’d ever let me feel that way.
Speaking of…
"Dr. Reid, the only thing I ask is for you to give these wonderful students a chance to show you what they know,” my professor started with a laugh before he so kindly continued, “So go easy on them."
In any other situation, I might have let it slide. I would have accepted the fact that Spencer was far beyond my intellect and not stand up for myself. But this time, Spencer was on my turf.
"All due respect to Dr. Reid, I don't think he needs to go easy on us,” I called from the front row, only audible to the other dutiful students that cared enough to sit up front. I heard Spencer laugh beside me, shaking his head just a little bit at the challenge. He didn’t say anything though, and I returned my eyes to the professor who was already familiar with my antics as I boasted, "At least not on me."
While Spencer caught on to the fairly obvious double entendre, shifting his crossed legs closer, the professor just wrote it off as my usual academic pride.
“I did try to warn you that that one might get competitive,” he commented. At this point, everyone had definitely figured out my relation to the man next to me. It was kind of hard to hide a bullet wound from your school. But again, I was so caught up in the man beside me that I didn’t even feel a little shame at their playful teasing.
Spencer’s commentary was the only thing that mattered, and he gave it with a dreamy sigh. "I'm not offended at all. I'm sure she's very clever."
The little bit of light left in the room started to fade, and once I was shrouded by the shadows, I felt confident enough in my plan to dig through the bag at my feet to pull out probably the nerdiest item in it.
A fucking back-up clicker. Which, I promptly handed to the man beside me.
“You’re in seat B4,” I whispered gruffly, earning yet another snarky chuckle from my boyfriend.
“Is that a challenge?”
I didn’t answer. Not him, anyway. What I did answer was the question that had appeared on the screen.
“Ms. (Y/n)?” My professor called, recognizing my seat number without even looking up.
Luckily for me, today was nothing but a review day of the midterm I’d already taken. While I knew all of the questions and, what I’d hoped were the right answers, Spencer had to read the questions from scratch. Really, it didn’t give me an edge. It just put us on equal playing ground.
As I gave my answer, I watched in my peripherals as Spencer’s eyes narrowed and tongue peeked out from lips that I still hadn’t gotten the chance to kiss today.
It was a bad thing to think about, because my brief reverie of the things that mouth was capable of reminded me of another one. I didn’t even notice another question had appeared on the screen, and when I heard the familiar buzz of an attempted answer, I shared my Professor’s temporary confusion.
“Ah, Dr. Reid,” he laughed, probably already regretting welcoming the bastard here, “Please explain the answer.”
But there was another thing working in my favor: My boyfriend’s giant fucking ego. Really, it should be impossible that someone who was normally super insecure could enjoy showing off as much as he did. My professor didn’t mind, because Spencer’s long-winded answer was a wonderful review of… basically the entire course, and I didn’t mind because it granted me the one thing I needed.
Time. Time to slowly remove my jacket and reveal the sweater underneath. Spencer’s eyes caught the motion, glancing over only a couple of times while he managed to give his answer. It wasn’t until I started to remove the sweater that he cut his answer short.
His throat clearing told me he wanted my attention, but I was still just too distracted for him. I fanned my chest that felt warm for reasons other than the temperature of the room, guaranteeing his eyes would stay there long enough for me to catch the next question before he had a chance.
Or so I thought. Because before the question appeared, I made the positively stupid mistake of meeting his gaze. As soon as I did, my mind was stuck there, drowning in molasses and honey and—
“Dr. Reid, please feel free to continue to do my job for me. Lord knows I would love a break,” the professor joked, and I almost felt guilty for just how genuine he sounded. Not like Spencer would have noticed passive aggression if it existed.
Not like either of us would have cared. Per usual, we were so lost in the space of B4 and B5 that we didn’t care about the rest of the alphabet. All we cared about was winning. It was growing more and more obvious to me, though, that I would have to become a little more ruthless if I wanted to bring down the bona fide genius.
The sound of his voice rang through the auditorium loud, clear, and confident. He didn’t need to worry if he was right or not, because he knew he was. The smugness was grating to my ears. I knew I couldn’t trick him into making a mistake, but there was one thing I could do.
I’d learned one thing very well in my time with Spencer, and that was how to manipulate that pretty little voice of his.
For example, if I wanted to hear it catch in his throat and come out a few pitches higher, all I would have to do is touch him. The riskier the touch, the higher his voice would go. Which was why I spread out the jacket over my lap, making sure that our legs were close enough that it covered him, too. Then I waited, calmly and kindly listening to him drone along until there was a natural enough inflection to hide evidence of any nefarious actions. Just as his voice started to rise, I slid my hand over his knee.
Spencer barely stuttered, just enough for me to know he was affected, but not enough for anyone else to notice. He took the loss with grace, quickly ending his answer with a summary that contained only half as many words as he would have normally provided.
He kept a few for me.
“What do you think you’re doing?” he hissed, shifting close enough to me that I could feel his breath on my ear.
“All’s fair in love and war,” I hummed. His breath caught again when I began stroking my thumb over his leg that had just started to bounce.
“This is wildly inappropriate.”
“How perceptive,” I returned with my own little smirk. The interaction caught us both, trapping us in the alternate dimension that existed when we held each other. His hand found its way to mine, and his thumb brushed over the back and sent goosebumps shooting over my skin.
I’d practically abandoned our pursuits altogether when I heard my friend’s voice as she took the question that we’d both missed. I should’ve been upset for losing after all that I’d gone through for my strategy to succeed, but it was hard to feel anything other than butterflies when Spencer was still looking at me like that.
Even when I looked away, he stayed, patiently waiting for me to take the final question in the review. I granted him a chance to take it, but he just shook his head, implicitly asking me to take the win for the both of us. Even when we were competing, we were always on the same team.
There were no more distractions as I explained the answer as simply as I could. I was positive the rest of the class was tired of hearing our voices, but Spencer never stopped smiling. I could feel the pride rolling off of him, his hand growing tighter around mine as he took in a deep breath.
“Very good, (y/n),” my professor announced, signaling the end and initiating a large sigh of relief from everyone else.
Spencer sighed too, although his was with a different kind of relief; a dreamy, soft sound as he muttered under his breath, “Just like I said. Very clever.”
The air felt positively electric, and I never hated my class more than I did in that moment. The rest of the period ticked by so slowly that I almost swore the clocks were broken. Once we were allowed to leave, Spencer insisted on sticking around to thank the professor for his hospitality.
I knew it was necessary, but that didn’t mean I had to like it. I tried to be as patient as possible, even though it seemed pointless. Spencer’s little grin told me he knew very well what he was doing. The conversation had dragged on for practically five minutes of agony while I idled by the door.
But then my professor passed, and I felt the adrenaline course through my veins in seconds. As anticipated, we didn’t even make it out of the building before the tension broke. We’d barely even made it down the goddamn hallway before I shoved his scrawny ass into the first empty classroom I found. Once the door clicked shut behind us, the roles were quickly reversed.
I hadn’t seen him that excited in so long that I’d almost forgotten how easy it was to get swept up in his undertow. I couldn’t keep track of his hands or his mouth as they marked any bare skin they could find. But no matter how frantic and uncoordinated the movements were, they never ceased to send chills down my spine.
“This is wildly inappropriate, Dr. Reid,” I managed to slur between sloppy, heated kisses. It was barely comprehensible through the pent-up lust that had driven us there in the first place, but it still felt worth saying.
Spencer, however, made his feelings very clear with a gruff, forceful, “I don’t care.”
His hands were already roaming over my hips, pulling me so close to the edge that I nearly fell off the counter entirely. While I was laughing at his haste, he was busy leaving angry marks on my collarbone, pulling the top of my shirt down to grant him more access. And despite how badly my body burned with desire and need, I drummed up just enough self-preservation to force out a few, regrettable words.
“Take me home.”
Even though I tried to make it sound more seductive than a normal request to stop, it brought the momentum to a halt. Spencer immediately stopped his kisses, but let his hands continue to stroke loving patterns over the sides of my thighs.
“Don’t you have other classes?” he asked. The feeling of his breath against my ears making me second-guess my already voiced decision. But as enticing as the idea was of having him now, having already waited over a week, I knew we could have so much more fun with a little bit of privacy.
“Don’t you have work?” I teased, hoping that it would spur him to take the action we both knew was safer. At the same time, I couldn’t stop myself from wanting to poke fun at the academic in him.
“Unless this is your way of telling me you've always wanted to fuck a girl in a lab because, I must admit I'd be more than happy to oblige."
Spencer’s whole body tensed as he imagined just what it would feel like to take me in such a public place. After a couple seconds that I can only imagine were filled with fantasies and a reasonable fear, he pulled me from my seat on the counter and placed me back on the ground.
“Let’s go,” he said, pulling me by my wrist towards the door.
I only barely managed to stop him with both hands on his arm. He turned back to look at me like I’d done some horrible thing, but I was too busy trying to stop the laughter that was spilling from my chest.
“You’re uh—” I cleared my throat, pointing to the very noticeable tent in his slacks before I keened through the giggles, “You’re gonna have to do something about that.”
With a quick glance down, Spencer remembered the very unfortunately obvious trait of the male anatomy. “Fuck,” he stated plainly.
I couldn’t resist.
“I mean, I’m down,” I joked one final time.
“Shut up!” Spencer laughed, too, trying and failing to adjust himself in his pants while I just enjoyed the show.
After all, we both knew that once we were alone, he would get a reprieve from my ridicule. He would get whatever he wanted.
—————————————————
The chaotic clashing of hands and mouths continued seconds after we’d reached our destination. The empty apartment had all of the sounds of our desperation echoing back to us, and after soaking in the melodious noise for a few seconds, I snapped back to reality.
“Okay, she doesn’t get home for another 30 minutes at the earliest so, we’d better hurry,” I urged, trying to shove Spencer off of me to convince him to move. It barely worked, with his arms clutching tighter the harder I struggled to get away.
Wrapped together just like that, the two of us barely made it a few feet before we almost tumbled to the ground. That was just enough of a reminder of our lack of coordination for Spencer to finally, begrudgingly, release me. Kind of. His hand still held tight to mine, and our laughter still combined the whole way to our bed.
From there, Spencer felt confident in our privacy to answer, “That’s fine. I usually tear open my gifts pretty quickly.”
It was a very good metaphor for the way his hands worked over my clothes. I didn’t even try to pinpoint the moment where being naked no longer made me feel nervous. I let the scar tissue show because neither of us were going to look at it, anyway. We were too caught up in the slight shifts and nuances of our faces as we rushed towards our one mutual goal.
“I missed you,” I mumbled, the words feeling as natural as breathing itself.
“I missed you, too,” he returned, and I felt the raw emotion, the sincerity and desire in every syllable. But once it was over and he had finally managed to remove everything but my underwear, all that was left was an all-encompassing, mind-altering level of lust.
“God, watching you in class was so fucking frustrating,” he strained, his upper lip curling with disdain as he watched my body squirm against the sheets.
“Why’s that?”
“I wanted you so badly.”
There was no denying that it was the honest truth, and I didn’t even want to try. I wanted to gloat and bask in the confirmation that his presence was dangerous for my academic career. Not to mention my sanity.
“Like I said. You’re very distracting.”
Then, to prove my point, that brilliant bastard shoved his hand under the band of my underwear. He only held me softly for one second before he slid his fingers through the slickness and thrust them roughly into me. It hadn’t been that long, but the emptiness I felt before was even more apparent now that I had any part of him inside of me again.
“Am I?” he chimed with a smile.
I wanted to be bratty, to fight the tension that was building and appear unfazed by his ministrations, but there was simply no pretending. Not when my body was already on the verge of spasming around his fingers that seemed to stroke the perfect place within me with every movement.
“Jesus Christ,” I sighed. I should’ve known better than to give him ammunition.
“You’ve resorted to blasphemy already?”
Spencer partnered the tease with a ruthless thrust, burying his fingers to the knuckle inside of me and holding them there. He waited until I ran out of breath and struggled to take another while also trying not to scream in a mixture of frustration and devastating need for more.
“I thought I told you we had to hurry?”
“We’ve got time,” he shot back without pause, “You’re just being a needy little brat.”
“Yes, I am,” I whined just as quickly, “I’m a fucking brat and I need you.”
He almost seemed disappointed in my compliance. His fingers began moving again, eliciting noises that were louder, higher, and sweeter after the anticipation. He tried to draw the attitude out of me by stopping again, waiting for a quip that didn’t come.
“Awww, no fight?” he cooed.
“I can’t. It’s your birthday,” I grumbled before biting my tongue. The pressure was becoming so unbearable I thought I might honestly draw blood. But after another few seconds of torture that felt like a lifetime, Spencer withdrew his hand completely.
He was testing the limits, watching how far I would let him go before begging. But even when he took the same soaked fingers and began rubbing me from the outside of my underwear, I only opened my mouth to steal quick, soft breaths and give pitiful whines.
“Oh, I like this…” he laughed, apparently having gotten past his concern about my sudden compliance, “I could get used to you behaving.”
The song-like cadence got to me, threatening to spark and ignite everything I was holding back. I almost bit back. I almost let the desire scorch my throat with a few choice words for the very rude genius, but I didn’t. The only thing that stopped me was the feel of cotton sliding down my thighs as he removed the final barrier between us.
“You’d miss my misbehaving,” I said with a chuckle. The sound mixed with another, a deep moan that filled my chest when I felt him press himself against my entrance. My back arched, causing him to slip inside of me just enough for us to both lose our words.
“I don’t know…”
If I’d wanted to say anything, my mouth wouldn’t have let me. It was too busy singing his praise while simultaneously begging him to silence it. My lips floundered for a kiss that he hung just far enough away from me to deny. Satisfaction was painted over every feature as he started to enter me, brushing his lips against my mouth every few seconds just to pull away before I was granted the intimacy I sought.
“You do look rather cute when you’re begging.”
It was strange, the way my body started to predict his movements. I met him in the middle of every motion, and I swore even our breath became synchronized in its rapid firing. It wasn’t until his hand rested over my throat we broke the rhythm. I wasn’t going to complain, letting the energy flow down my spine that arched towards him on instinct. His hips never stopped, and I could tell by the way his breath hitched and his fingers grew tighter around my neck that the new angle was as wonderful for him as it was for me.
“You look so sweet when you let go of every ounce of self-preservation and dignity you have and put your life in my hands,” he whispered with an affection that almost seemed odd considering the context. But then there was something else in his moans, a genuine gentleness that made my already arrhythmic heart beat faster.
“You know I’ll take care of you, don’t you?” he asked as his movements stayed calm and careful. Loving and safe.
I didn’t even notice my eyes had closed, but it ultimately didn’t matter. Because when I opened them, I saw the same man that existed in every image behind my eyelids. The only indication he got that I was still capable of communication was the gentle curve of my lips that dropped open in a pleased sigh as his hips continued a slow, tender pace.
It still felt like too much, but not in a bad way. It was too much in the sense that I was reminded once again just how ruined he’d made me. And the smug little shit knew it, too.
“You don’t have a single thought in that pretty little head, do you?” he cooed, dragging his hand up the column of my throat to force his fingers against my tongue. True to my word, I didn’t try to fight back. I soaked the digits that still tasted like me with my jaw left open. His pupils dilated as he watched the spit pool in my mouth that awaited his instruction.
“You just want to be used. Like the perfect little doll you are.”
Unlike my own, his smile was more of a smirk. A crooked, ever so slightly wicked quirk that made my muscles tense around him in their own version of an affirmative answer. He took it, happily. His body crashed into mine, but it merely felt like an extension of myself returning home like the waves meeting the shore. I could feel him claiming his rightful place at the deepest parts of me, making his home with every powerful motion of his hips.
I could hardly breathe, let alone think. I didn’t want to. It felt unnecessary.
“My sweet little girl,” he muttered with an unbelievably chaste kiss in the center of my forehead, “You’d do anything to make your daddy happy.”
I felt detached from myself in a way that didn’t feel me with fear or pain. I could feel myself through his hands, strong and working the pliable flesh of my thighs as he held them up so that he could drive into me harder.
His eyes, also only half open, burned with intensity. I could feel the determination, the undying desire to grant me a serenity that no one else could. His need for me to feel safe and loved with the seemingly contradictory brutality.
But it wasn’t contradictory. The power behind every movement, the insistence on being as close to me as he possibly could, might have caused some physical pain, but it was nothing compared to the pleasure of sharing this space with him. Of sharing my body with him just to see what he would do with it. I already knew, but I wanted to feel it again and again. Because with each stroke of his hand and thrust of his hips, I felt it.
Spencer had free rein to do whatever he wanted, and he chose to love me.
“I’m so close. You know what I want,” he pleaded despite holding all of the power. He handed it to me with a low groan, trying to kiss my lips while he commanded, “Do it. Come for me.”
My body obeyed his command, falling to pieces around him with shockwaves breaking over every inch of me. My vision went white, crafting a halo of light around him as he also found himself reaching a peak that seemed different than the times we’d shared before.
I tried to figure out what had changed, what about this time made it unique. But as the euphoria faded, all I saw staring back at me was the same face as always, radiating a joy and understanding that warmed damp, chilly skin. Spencer’s release provided a similar warmth within me, and my body clung to him even tighter despite the exhaustion.
My breathing took its time to even out, but I was in no rush to leave him. I would have stayed like that forever, with Spencer covering me like the silliest, boniest blanket. If it wasn’t for the dead weight he eventually dropped on me, we probably would’ve spent the whole day lost in the covers. But he could thank the scars for me being a little less forgiving.
Of course, thankful is not the word to describe him at all. Whiny was more like it. Even as I turned our bodies together so that I would still be sitting on his lap, he did nothing but groan and bitch about it. That is, until I silenced him with a kiss that barely brushed over his lips.
That was enough to turn his frown back to the dopey smile I loved so much.
“Happy birthday, old man,” I purred, enjoying the way his hands grabbed me tighter at the loving nickname. But age wasn’t what was on his mind. I could see it in the way his eyes tore past my defenses and he held me closer like we could actually become one if he tried hard enough.
“I’m so in love with you, it’s infuriating,” he whispered.
“I’ve heard that one before.”
Spencer wasn’t in a joking mood, though. All of his humor seemed to be expended earlier in the day, and now he was just left with all the mushy, romantic innards that I normally kept at bay.
It wasn’t that bad, though, I thought as his hands framed my face so our foreheads would touch. There were worse things to be trapped with.
“It’s true,” he mumbled with his voice still high and slurred together, “I look at you and there is just… nothing that can be said that would ever explain the way it feels.”
“Gross,” I joked.
“Get used to it,” he returned. And if that wasn’t enough to make me laugh, he stuck his tongue out in the most childish display I’d seen from him since he’d fucking licked my hand on our picnic. It was also just charming enough that I was willing to let the sappy stuff slide.
“I’ll be nice to you this time,” I grumbled. “But also, speaking of time, you’d better hurry up if you don’t want to do the walk of shame with an audience.”
Spencer’s arms fell limp with a dramatic cry before he used them to cover his face once more.
“Ugh. Go,” he ordered. Despite his words, he still made me fight against greedy hands to wrestle my way out of bed. It would have been smarter to let me go quickly. I really don’t know what he was thinking, but he would learn his mistake soon enough. Because as I was finishing up in the bathroom, I heard a very amused voice chiming down the hall on the other side of the door.
“Good afternoon, Spencer.”
I debated not opening the door and freeing Spencer from the unbelievably uncomfortable position he’d just found himself in, but ultimately decided it was too cruel. Still, the stalling had taken up enough time that the poor guy felt compelled to reply.
And, of course, the only thing he could think to say was a pathetic, high pitched, “Hi.”
Somehow managing to contain the absolutely riotous laughter I felt in my gut, I opened the door with the straightest face I could muster.
It wasn’t enough. Spencer saw the pleasure I took in his humiliation and practically shoved me out of the bathroom to take my place behind the doors. While I found the action endearing in the most awkward way, my roommate was mostly just confused about how the fuck I’d managed to find someone as stupid as me.
“I didn’t know he was coming,” she said once she managed to smile at the silly situation.
Clearing my throat, I tried to sound sincere in my bullshit apology. “Me either, sorry.”
In a way, I think the fact I couldn’t pull myself together worked in my favor. Normally, she would have scolded me (albeit playfully) for not alerting her of what she might be walking in on, but this time, she just tried to withhold the smile that still stretched over her cheeks despite her best efforts.
“You’re fine,” she sighed, giving in to the desire to go against her usual grumpy demeanor before retreating to her own room. “Have fun, you hooligans.”
Once her door clicked shut, I heard shuffling on the other side of the door next to me. Spencer’s shadow was visible from the light peeking out underneath, and I waited a few more restless seconds before I announced, “You can come out now, Spencer.”
Cautiously, the door creaked open just enough for his head to poke out and confirm that I wasn’t trying to trick him.
“I’ve never been a hooligan before,” he said with a bounce in his step and his eyebrows halfway up his face. To think that he was the same man who threatened to arrest me for existing at a nightclub was, in a word, hilarious.
“Well, good news for you,” I purred, and the sound must have reminded him of my more devilish nature, because his jubilance quickly shifted back to an obvious anxiety. I wrapped my arms around him even when it meant that his muscles tensed, dragging him down so I could whisper in his ear, “I was just about to ask if you wanted to help me play hooky.”
“And do what?”
It felt strange to say that I hadn’t really thought about it. That the second I’d seen him I knew that the day would be good and free and fun. That everything felt so perfectly fine that I didn’t even want to challenge it with a schedule.
Spencer looked at me, his answer apparent in the way he started to relax the longer we stayed wrapped up in a shitty apartment hallway. It didn’t matter what I said. Spencer would have followed me, just like I would have done for him.
And without the angst or uncertainty of what could go wrong, there was only one thing left for us to do. With a shrug and pout, I proposed the riskiest plan we’d had yet.
“Whatever we want.”

What are Sho and Reis love life like? Do they go out to spooky cons??
Tumblr media
Hey! Thanks for asking us our first ask! :))!!
I’d say our love life is a comfy warm atmosphere.
Oh by the way…this is shoda here first! Reiko was to shy to go first..sooo I’m taking over for now!
We both are the same in nature but express things differently if that’d make sense?, or just we bounce back from eachother, they usually push me to try new things as I already do enjoy doing so. Just sometimes I am admittedly a little shy to ‘new’ ideas.
Reiko brings in a much deeper darker sense of life towards me, one that for awhile I didn’t really see and or tried to avoid (guilty) but then I eventually got comfortable too more ‘grim’ things. Such as ghosts/death and all her spooky special interests! I am much more confident now with ‘spooks’ and ‘scares’ an whatnot. So I can confidently say that, yes! I have been to some spooky cons with them indeed! (My favorite so far is the horror movie convention we went too! We dressed up as chucky and Tiffany. Lots of people complimented us! It was a very fun time!)
I love getting to know about him so much. I love getting to experience a new life with them.
We do well together. Sometimes I could absolutely be walked on all over by my classmates and they’ll be their to be my spokesperson just as I am with them. We really do speak to eachother loudly than anybody could hear us..In our very own unique way. I’d love to keep it that way. Though I already know it will absolutely stay that way. I am in it for the long haul as are they.
We really do bring out the best in eachother!
(I am their little snowman and they are my spooky lil ghost!..)
Reiko:
Huh..oh hey👻…ok I finally have the courage now. To take over..Thanks shoda..(no problem! /in the background/ )
I was listening to my boyfriend ok..just aghh. mushy stuff. Anyways-
Yes our love life. It’s very interesting seeing things other then just from my eyes. Shoda brought me to see the ‘light’ you’d call it in life.
I know I love the darkness..the cold. We are in the blizzards..But he’s like this warm blanket to me. Towards us.
The hot cocoa to life.
For being a huge nerd that he is. He checks out for having a great analysis on everything I like even if at first the things I enjoyed weren’t his cup of tea. Things I didn’t notice till he mentioned it.
He’s observe like that. But I love that about him. That he actually pays attention towards everything. And tries new things for me. He’ll pop in on occasion to hear my music. Or even watch scary movies with me..and performing rituals and whatnot with me too. (And yes. We have been to spooky cons before. They were very fun an cool. I have to post more pictures about it sometime but for now I’ll share this one I have that’s my favorite cause we look cute.)
To end this off.
I honestly always felt so lonely my whole life. And I just got use to it. To having no one see me…get the reference?👻👻👻. But he noticed me alright.
And persisted…and eventually we..spoiler…get together..Anyways BLEGH..I’m getting mushy..eww well. That’s how I see us. Just a spooky little ghost ghoul and a silly lil snowman. Keeping eachother company in the blizzard of life..🌨

Exploring Dragonspine pt.2
Tumblr media
Kaeya
Being a Cryo user in these conditions is tough. His powers are not too effective against local creatures, so he has no choice but to rely on his physical strength. It doesn’t help enduring sheer cold either.
On the bright side, his hands don’t get too cold, so he has no problem picking things up from the ground, climbing rocks and starting snowball fights (of course). While for others getting their hands a bit wet in such cold can certainly lead to some unfortunate consequences Kaeya is immune to this problem.
Kaeya is often the one to do the dirty work of setting up tents, digging stuff up and collecting wood for the fire. Mostly to own up for being «useless» in battle (he is not, really, but still feels the need to overcompensate).
Would probably lie about being unaffected by such harsh weather conditions to keep the spirit up, leading to him getting hypothermia once or twice. «Oh, it’s nothing really. A little snow can’t do much to a Cryo user, you know?»
Exploring ice caves is his favourite part of the adventure. Shiny cold and mysterious setting probably resonates well with him. He isn’t afraid of wondering deep inside, looking for ancient puzzles and long forgotten treasure, often coming back empty-handed and shivering, but still content.
Kaeya quickly learns to be quite creative with his use of vision. He will try to entertain you by making silly ice figures and is always very gentle while helping you cross the water on an ice floe he created, making sure you are holding tight.
He soon discovers he can even build strong ice walls in this temperature, now jumping right in to protect you from enemy attacks and strong wind. Although it rarely happens, when you encounter human enemies Kaeya’s Cryo can make them retreat within few seconds of battle, unable to take this much cold.
Venti
Would totally boast around saying he knows all ins and outs of Dragonspine (He doesn’t. Or probably doesn’t remember much). His confidence will get you lost sooner or later, walking in circles while snow cowers your trace.
«I guess it’s been a long time, hehe. How forgetful of me». He’d laugh without even the tiny bit of remorse. «An adventure wouldn’t be one without some hardships!»
He has an annoying habit of narrating everything you do with silly rhymes when he gets a bit bored. But you have to admit there is some talent, some of those sound pretty good and melodies of his lyre add a certain atmosphere to your journey.
He is yet another ruthless lover of snowball fights. If only he was that dedicated during actual combat. You are almost sure he is cheating, using some kind of wind magic to avoid your perfectly good throws.
With Venti on your team steep mountainsides and cold waters are not a problem, he will gladly help you glide over any obstacle safely. Would be perfect if he could also stop blizzards on command, but, as he puts it, he’s not all-powerful.
He brings some wine with him everywhere, probably stacks up on alcohol beforehand. He’s hitting the bottle pretty hard during halts, says it keeps him warm. You are sceptical of the fact sheer cold affects him in any way. Maybe alcohol runs through his veins and keeps him going like an engine?
Very good at finding Seelie for some reason. It’s like he attracts them with his music. Honestly a great ability that allows you to walk a bit without a worry of freezing to death, basking in Seelie’s heat.
Razor
Razor is actually well-adjusted to harsh conditions. He still hates cold and not a big fan of snow. He says strong cold wind makes it hard to distinguish smells.
Being an experienced hunter, he is pretty good at distinguishing tracks in the snow. His sharp eye helps you find or avoid certain enemies. He also comes up with an idea to carve little marks into the trees not to get lost in the blizzard.
His survivor knowledge goes as far as alerting you not to get close to trees surrounded by soft snow. «You can fall deep. Hard to get out. I wouldn’t want that».
Keeps watch during the night, silently guarding the entrance to a cave you choose to stay in. Such cold enclosed spaces make him anxious, so he can’t really sleep well. Better be ready for danger!
On occasions he actually agrees to have some rest, he would suggest to sleep together without hesitation. Huddling for warmth is only natural to him, so he wouldn’t get why would you be so flustered all of a sudden.
He roasts some meat regularly and is very persistent in making you eat well. It is also important for staying warm longer. Razor focuses a lot on hunting, even though it is not easy to find prey in these snowy conditions.
He tells you a legend of the Great Snowboar King, a giant boar-like creature living in the snow, ferocious and powerful animal. He wants to track him down, defeat him in battle. It would certainly get you enough food till the end of your quest!
Chongyun
He is a rare person to enjoy such weather conditions. For any usual adventurer it would be cold enough to go through one’s bones, but not Chongyun. For him it’s just delightful!
While everyone else stays glum, teeth clenched from cold, Chongyun runs around freely with a smile on his face. He can finally stop worrying so much about his condition, it’s nearly impossible to get overheated like this.
His carelessness really worries you, so you try to keep him at least a bit warm by making him sit closer to fire, preventing him from jumping straight into ice-cold water, giving him more soup than others (he still waits until it gets cold though).
It almost hurts to look at him walking around wearing just the shirt. «No need to worry, I promise I’ll be fine… Your nose is getting red though, we need to get you to the campfire!» He is always way more concerned about you getting even a tiny bit cold than him getting frost on even his eyelashes.
You swear you will lose your mind if you see him eating popsicles again. This should be illegal in subzero temperature! Chongyun just laughs, he thinks you look cute getting angry over something so minor.
He knows a lot of stories about scary evil spirits lurking around snow pikes, buried under layers and layers of ice. Makes a good horror-story-night, especially if you stay in a dark cave in the middle of a snow storm. He ensures his teammates no spirit will bother you while he is around, with a drop of sadness and disappointment in his voice.

See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil [1]
Tumblr media
Fandom: Shall We Date?: Obey Me! Pairing: Diavolo/F!Reader Genre: Soulmate AU, Fake Relationship (?), Misunderstandings, Fluff, Angst
Tumblr media
Synopsis: During a confrontation between Diavolo and a certain witch who harbors unrequited feelings for him, he declares his intention to ask you to stand beside him in reigning over the Devildom someday. You conclude only one logical explanation for the insanity he uttered: this is his way of discouraging the witch from being so persistent. Although clueless, you play along and become ‘lovers’ with him.
Inevitably, your existing attraction for Diavolo grows, but the distinction between truth and lies, the crisscrossed lines of the right and the wrong, and the question of what’s real and what isn’t, begin to plague your mind and stir up trouble for your relationship with him with each passing day.
Entangled within the woven threads of soulmates and a royal prophecy, this is the story of the Demon Prince and his future Queen: you.
Tumblr media
1 | 2 | 3 Chapter 1: See No Evil Word Count: 5k
Tumblr media
A soulmark was an extreme rarity in the human world, a one in a million blessing the lucky ones were bestowed with. You knew no one who possessed one but were acquainted with many who were enamored by it and longed to receive such a privilege. A strange fascination enveloped the world whenever it was mentioned; with romance, fate, and destiny being constant subjects of both fiction and nonfiction works and media. The certainty of someone out there meant especially for you, to have and to hold, appealed to the majority.
You were a part of the minority.
From the very first time you had learned of the idea, one thing has struck you clearly: rather than a blessing, soulmarks were a curse. To have a predetermined person you were supposed to spend the rest of your life with was the universe’s way of taking away your free will. The notion alone was suffocating. Nevertheless, while you wanted nothing to do with this system, fate had a funny and sadistic way of doing things.
On the night of your eighteenth birthday, the telltale sign of the burning sensation on your spine was all you needed to suspect a soulmark had emerged on your skin. Despite this, you convinced yourself you were wrong. It was rare, and there was no way you would be gifted with such a thing, especially since you had expressed a clear dislike for it. In an attempt to crush your worries, you marched to the vanity in the corner of your room and sat on the stool with your back on the mirror. You raised your shirt halfway and turned your head to peek. Above the hem, the tip of an ink-like marking, which hadn’t existed before, rested. The shock and horror of the sight drove your fingers to tremble and release the fabric, your eyes wide as you turned away. The exposed portion had been too little, but you were certain, imprinted on your spine was the lifelong sentence you despised—a soulmark.
You were the master of your own fate, and no soulmark could tell you otherwise. As more anger and resentment bubbled inside you, you decided that for the rest of your life, ignorance would be bliss. With this resolve, you stood, walked away, and pretended this fiasco never happened. Whatever it was that rested on your back, you vowed to never look at and considered to never exist. When somebody asked you if you had a soulmark, the prospect of the look of wonder they would give you made you want to roll your eyes and scoff, and you would smile and reply with a negative. After that night, you grew out your hair and made sure it would always be long enough to add coverage to your back whenever possible. You said goodbye to clothing that required to be zipped from behind and never once more turned to see your back’s reflection in the mirror. Sometimes, when you bathed, the soap and water running over your spine caused the curiosity you’d tried to suppress for as long as possible to spike, but each time, you fought the urge and succeeded.
It was difficult at first, but since you had put your mind into it, time passed, and you adjusted to this lifestyle. Only reminded of the truth once in a blue moon, you did everything you could to conceal your dirty little secret from everyone else.
At present, you were an exchange student at the Royal Academy of Diavolo in the Devildom. Many things you had never thought to be possible were proven otherwise by your stay in this world. One thing, though, has never changed: your secret remained one you never dared to utter.
Everything in your life was in its rightful place until a fateful day when it all began to topple over like a house of cards.
One morning, the House of Lamentation was empty save for you. Lucifer informed you a week ago about their agenda today: to entertain a special guest, a certain illustrious witch, in the Demon Lord’s Castle. You offered your assistance in welcoming whoever she was, but Lucifer shook his head and declined readily. If you didn’t know better, you’d say he had paled, but you assumed he was tired and stressed out due to the preparations of their gathering. As the witch had requested the presence of all seven of the demon brothers, you were left home alone for the weekend.
The skirt of your white dress flowed backward as you made your way to the kitchen with a skip in your steps. To avoid sweating too much, you placed your cardigan aside, tied your hair, and donned an apron. You opened the cupboards in search of ingredients for pancakes and checked the pantry for strawberries, chocolate toppings, and a new bottle of maple syrup to replace the empty one in the kitchen. Determined, you prepared yourself to make a huge batch to share with the demon brothers, and more especially for Beelzebub, later when they returned.
The sound of the doorbell piqued your interest and led you to pause from mixing the pancake batter. Three possibilities of who could be behind the door left you guessing as you washed your hands and rushed to the entrance. Most likely, it would be the Akuzon delivery man who frequented the house due to Leviathan’s online shopping addiction. If not, it would be Mammon’s debt collector who was very persistent and difficult to drive away. Or it could also be an ‘acquaintance’ of Asmodeus looking for ‘a good time’.
To your surprise, the one who was behind the door was neither of those three.
The Prince of the Devildom stood in front of you in all his glory, dressed in a red button-down shirt and black trousers. It confused you why he would be at your door at this time of the day. The demon brothers were at the castle, and you assumed he would be there as well. “Lord Diavolo? What brings you here?”
“Good morning!” Diavolo greeted, unfazed by the surprised expression on your face. “I thought I’d drop by and say hello.”
“Hello to you, too,” you replied and gave him a shy smile. “This is a pleasant surprise. Have you had breakfast yet?”
“I had to leave quite early, so I haven’t.”
“Would you like to come in and have breakfast with me? I’m cooking some human world food.”
“You don’t mind?”
“If you’re not busy, I’d appreciate the company.”
“Then, I accept.”
“Great! Please wait for me in the dining room.”
With a nod, Diavolo passed the threshold and shut the door behind him. You spun around and stepped forward, eager to finish cooking and share a meal with him. Although you received no reply from Diavolo, his footsteps were audible as he followed you. The burning sensation of his gaze caused you to glance at him from your shoulder, proven correct as his eyes shifted from your dress to your face.
“Is something wrong?” you asked.
Diavolo smiled and shook his head. “Everything’s perfect.”
“If you say so.”
The prospect of having breakfast with Diavolo left you excited. You had always enjoyed his company, and with everyone else occupied, you had a rare moment of being alone with him. It had been a while since you last dined together, and that time had been to check up on you and ask how you were liking your life as an exchange student so far. Ever since you had met him, he had been nothing but nice and well-mannered, though he did have a mischievous side that kept you on your toes. He frequently schemed of ‘fun’ activities centered on you and the demon brothers, and now, your mind would wander to him when something was suspiciously amiss.
You couldn’t deny how his sinfully good looks left you swooning when he wasn’t looking, but you weren’t naïve enough to be unaware your silly attraction to him was one-sided. It wasn’t as if you were pining for him. Even if your status as an exchange student from the human world opened up numerous possibilities for you to admire him from up close—like now—in the theoretical sense, you were only admiring him from afar. Still, as he entered the kitchen and offered to carry the trays to the dining room despite your half-hearted protests, insisting it was the least he could do, the domesticity of your interactions made butterflies float in your stomach.
“It’s delicious,” Diavolo commented. Elegantly, he sliced another portion of the pancake and took a bite. “This takes me back to the time when you cooked human world food for us during the retreat at the castle.”
“Yes, Solomon’s cooking was certainly… memorable.”
He grimaced. “Indeed.”
You chuckled and took a sip of your coffee, feeling warmth and contentment as your conversation flowed with ease.
As you and Diavolo conversed about the topic of demons in human media, with you telling him how their kind was portrayed and him debunking their inaccuracies, the front door swung open and slammed shut.
“Oh, they’re back already?” You perked up and stood, stepping out to welcome the demon brothers.
Diavolo shook his head with a grim look in his eyes. He followed suit and faced the entrance of the dining hall, making sure his form was hiding you from sight. “No, I’m afraid it’s someone else. Please stay back, and let me handle this.”
“What are you talking about? Who could possibly be there—”
“Diavolo,” a sultry voice called.
The click-clack of high heels filled the silence as the owner of the voice entered the vicinity. Out of curiosity, you peeked from Diavolo’s shoulder and saw an attractive woman sauntering toward him, her eyes trained on his face, and a sly smile gracing her lips. She was someone you’d never encountered before. You were sure of this fact as her voice alone was remarkable, and she was even more beautiful than any of the succubi you shared classes with.
“Maddi,” Diavolo returned.
“Is that the way to greet an old friend?”
“How are you doing? All seven of the demon brothers were present at the castle. I take it they gave you a warm welcome?”
“They did, but it wasn’t warm enough,” she replied, crossing her arms. “You weren’t there.”
You had heard of her before. She was known as The Great Witch Maddi, and apparently, she was the special guest at the Demon Lord’s Castle. If that were the case, then why was she here, and where were the demon brothers who were tasked to welcome her?
Diavolo shook his head, retaining his cordial demeanor. “I have more important matters to attend to.”
“Is that so?” she queried, her voice dripping with disdain and amusement. “Anyway, I’m curious why you chose Solomon over dear old me for the exchange program. He’s a shady one, isn’t he?”
And you’re not? You bit back the sarcastic retort and opted to step forward to defend your friend. “Solomon is a powerful wizard who has made pacts with seventy-two demons, making him a suitable candidate and choice for the exchange program.”
Maddi’s eyebrows shot up in irritation as she sent a spiteful glance your way, her lips curving into a sneer. “Oh, who might this be? A human?”
Smiling, you held your head high and opened your mouth to introduce yourself. “Yes, I am—”
“Nevermind Solomon. You chose this plain and regular human over me?” Maddi asked, pointing her index finger in your direction, her tone condescending and accusatory.
For some reason, it was evident she wasn’t referring to the exchange program exclusively any longer. Was she Diavolo’s ex-lover? From the three minutes you had spent in her presence, it was easy to see how Maddi was so used to getting her way that it upset her whenever it didn’t happen. Truthfully, you couldn’t imagine Diavolo cozying up with someone like her. Since she had arrived, Diavolo has been trying his best not to look like he swallowed something unpleasant, even if the meal you served him was anything but. You’d never seen him this way before. He disliked her, which was strange because Diavolo liked everyone; he was one of the most pleasant beings you had met among the three worlds.
“It would be best for you to watch your tone, Maddi.” Diavolo placed an arm around you and stroked your clothed skin with his thumb comfortingly. “She’s not just any human.”
“Don’t joke around, unless…” Maddi narrowed her eyes, gritting her teeth. “Don’t tell me… Is it her? The one the prophecy is talking about?”
Prophecy? What prophecy?
The atmosphere was tense. You were in the dark about what was happening, but you understood bits and pieces from their exchange. As your mind wandered with speculations, Diavolo’s response almost made you choke on your spit.
“Yes,” he confirmed proudly.
“It can’t be! It was supposed to be me!” Maddi cried out. “No, no, no!”
“There’s nothing you can do about it,” you finally spoke up, making your statement as vague as possible to conceal your cluelessness.
“Shut up!”
You snapped, “You barge in my home, talk badly about my friend, and now, you’re telling me to shut up?”
“Home? This is the House of Lamentation.”
“I know. I live here.”
Diavolo stepped forward in an attempt to keep Maddi away from you. “Maddi, stop it this instant.”
Maddi shook her head. “Diavolo, there must be a mistake—”
“This is hardly the time and place for it, but I’ve been thinking about it for a long time, and now, I’m certain she’s the one in the prophecy,” Diavolo stated. He shot a fond smile your way and dropped the bomb on Maddi… and you. “She’s going to be the future Queen of the Devildom… if she accepts, that is.”
Eyes wide, you took a moment to steady yourself, taken aback.
What in the Devildom is he talking about?
There was only one logical conclusion for the insanity he uttered. It was obvious how Maddi had unrequited feelings for Diavolo, and this had to be his way of stopping her from being so assertive. If it would help Diavolo, of course, you’d be willing to do it, you would play along.
Sighing, you looked at him with a gentle smile and said, “Of course, I would accept.”
“You would?” Diavolo’s gaze shifted back to you, unable to mask his surprise at your agreement, hopeful. Since you had figured out his game, you caught the double meaning in his words, and you hoped he had caught yours as well.
You nodded. “Yes.”
“I won’t let you!” Maddi interjected. She stepped forward and raised her hand to your direction, a glow over the hollow of her palm as she opened her mouth to say the incantation to hex you, or worse, put a lifelong curse on you.
You shut your eyes and braced yourself for the impact, but before Maddi could do anything harmful, Diavolo encircled her outstretched wrist in a firm grasp. “I’ll think twice before doing that if I were you.”
Slowly, you opened your eyes. You were welcomed by the rare sight of Diavolo’s serious, livid expression, leaving your breath caught in your throat.
“I hate you!” Maddi spat, her eyes full of scorn and unshed tears as she glared at you. She stormed off and slammed the door, leaving the two of you speechless.
At long last, quietness filled the room once again. In shock, you stared at the spot Maddi had occupied and processed what had happened until Diavolo tucked a stray strand of hair behind your ear and caught your attention.
He sighed. “I apologize for her behavior.”
“There’s no need for you to apologize. It’s not something you have control over.”
“I appreciate you saying that,” he replied with a small smile forming on his lips. “Did you mean it? You’re okay with this?”
You blinked. From what you had witnessed, Maddi was a handful. A possibility she wouldn’t let what happened slide and come back to haunt you was looming over your head. You were already on her hit list, and frankly, it would do you no harm to continue playing along with Diavolo’s charade. It would keep you safe, and it would help him continue driving her off. There were only a few months left until the exchange program was over. Your arrangement would end by then. There was nothing for you to lose.
“Sure.”
Tumblr media
The demon brothers, who rushed home to stop whatever Maddi had plotted, arrived fifteen minutes too late. You and Diavolo were having the last of your coffee by the time they barged inside the House of Lamentation. Promptly, Diavolo and Lucifer had a meeting in the study room concerning the situation with Maddi. As for the rest of the demon brothers, they fawned over you and made sure you were unharmed while those who had the unfortunate luck of encountering Maddi prior to this mess shared accounts of their experience. The conversation soon shifted to all of them ranting about Maddi’s cunning behavior during her escape from the Demon Lord’s Castle. Even though none of them said it, they felt terrible for being unable to fulfill Diavolo’s request which resulted in putting you in unnecessary danger. You assured them you were fine, sneaking glances at the direction of the study room from time to time.
After half an hour, Diavolo and Lucifer concluded their meeting.
“Let’s continue this discussion tomorrow,” Lucifer said as the two of them emerged from the study room.
Diavolo nodded. “Yes, let’s meet at the Student Council Room after class.”
You wondered about the specifics of their discussion, but before you could dwell on the thought, Lucifer turned to you and requested, “Will you accompany Diavolo to the door?”
“Of course.”
“See you all tomorrow,” Diavolo told everyone, gesturing for you to lead the way. “Let’s go.”
In comfortable silence, you walked beside Diavolo along the hallway. Your encounter with Maddi replayed inside your head, and though every word she had said screamed her dislike for you, a tiny part of you felt terrible for her and the pain of her rejection. She must have liked Diavolo a lot—loved him, even—but the feeling wasn’t mutual. From your perspective, that sounded awful.
You halted your steps once you reached the entrance, addressing him as he pushed the door open. “Have a safe trip home. Thank you for today, Lord Diavolo.”
He paused and regarded you with amusement. “Just ‘Diavolo’ is fine. Call me by my name.”
“Okay.” You nodded. “Diavolo.”
“Good girl,” he said, tucking a stray lock of hair behind your ear and bidding you goodbye.
Tumblr media
The rest of the day passed by in a blur. After excusing yourself, you went straight to your room and plopped down on your bed, the morning’s events still occupying your mind. With how trivial the day had begun, you never expected the circumstances to progress this way. Your thoughts inevitably wandered to Diavolo, the serious expression you had witnessed from him burned in your memory. Somehow, you felt closer to him than you had ever been because of this experience. As the tenderness in his voice and touch from your last interaction left you restless, you reminded yourself this was all for show, and you had a new challenge ahead of you.
When Beelzebub knocked on your door to summon you for dinner, a part of you was unsettled for the questions the demon brothers would ask you about Diavolo. After everyone arrived and began eating, Lucifer relayed what happened with Maddi first and foremost, and then, revealed the ‘truth’ about you. He stated how Diavolo confirmed this morning that you were the one in the prophecy, the prospective Queen of the Devildom.
“Haha! Ya tryin’ to be a joker, Lucifer? C’mon anyone can do better than that!” Mammon laughed at Lucifer’s ‘poor attempt at humor’ and downed his lemon juice in one go.
“If anyone here is a joke, it’s you, Mammon,” Lucifer said, shooting his younger brother’s idea down with a fierce glare.
“Wh…? No way! You’re... You’re actually serious?”
Lucifer pinched the bridge of his nose. “We’ve been having this conversation for fifteen minutes. How many times do I have to tell you?”
“In any case,” Leviathan interjected, sounding excited, “this is even better than the plot of I’m A Succubus Who Fell In Love With Heaven’s Number One Angel! What a turn of events… and posted!”
Satan sighed, regarding Leviathan with a look of exasperation. “Did you really need to make a social media update?”
“Duh,” Leviathan replied, typing away his next post.
Beelzebub, who had been busy eating this whole time, paused and swallowed a bite of steak, peering at your face worriedly from beside you. “Hey, will he make you happy?”
“He better,” Belphegor stated with narrowed eyes, both sleepy and threatening, “or else…”
“To be honest with you, I am kinda worried,” you admitted, finally speaking up. “Not about Diavolo, though, but…”
“If it’s Maddi you’re worried about, say one word, and she’s going to be taken care of, I assure you,” Satan said.
“Breaking News: Satan has just made a threat against The Great Witch Maddi. How scary the Avatar of Wrath is…” Leviathan commented, “and posted!”
Satan attempted to snatch Leviathan’s phone but failed. “Give me that!”
Although menacing, the words of comfort Satan offered you made you chuckle. “Thanks, Satan.”
“Of course.” Satan sent you a firm nod and went back to trying to get Leviathan’s phone.
“Well?” Asmodeus prodded from the other side of the table, placing his eating utensils down to fold his fingers.
“What is it, Asmo?” you asked.
“What are you waiting for? Spill the beans!”
“Don’t. I’ll eat them instead—”
“Not those beans, Beel.” Asmodeus shook his head and made a show of clapping his hands. “I’m talking about Lord Diavolo!”
Spill the beans about Diavolo? From what you had gathered from Lucifer and Mammon’s conversation, Diavolo told none of them, not even Lucifer, of the true nature of your charade. You trusted his decision, but while you kept your composure on the outside, internally, you began to panic. Did Asmodeus suspect something?
You cleared your throat and took a sip of your drink, feigning nonchalance as you asked with caution. “What about him?”
“Come on, you know what I’m talking about. Have you done it with him? Is he good in bed—no, scratch that—how good is he in bed? Does he prefer it rough or gentle? Which position is his favorite? How big is his—”
“Not another word, Asmodeus,” Lucifer’s booming voice demanded everyone’s attention, and the chatter and the sound of cutlery ceased at once. “Not. Another. Word.”
Asmodeus frowned but relented, picking up his utensils to continue eating his meal.
You had no idea how to answer the question Asmodeus posed, and you couldn’t help but let out a sigh of relief as the subject was shut down before it could even begin, silently thanking Lucifer’s aversion to the topic for saving you from responding.
The conversation shifted to more trivial matters, all of which you were more than happy to participate in, as long as none of them concerned you and Diavolo. Soon, you were laughing with everyone again. The mood was lighter, and the food was more enjoyable. Once dinner ended, you returned to your bedroom and reveled in the fact you survived the whole ordeal. No one but you knew the truth about your situation with Diavolo. The less who knew, the less complicated it was. It was best to keep it that way.
After you took your cardigan off and hung it aside, you began your routine for the night, thankful for the mundane task to keep your mind off things. As you changed into your pajamas, the fabric running over your spine sent a conscious feeling of your soulmark all over you, but as always, it didn’t matter. You fought the urge away, and your secret remained safe, even from you.
Turning the lights off, you laid in bed and stared into the abstract patterns in the ceiling, adding one more secret to those you had to keep.
Tumblr media
The next day, the news of the confrontation Diavolo, Maddi, and you had at the House of Lamentation spread like wildfire all over the academy. Succubi sent impressed—some, envious—glances your way while incubi followed your form with unrepressed interest as you made your way to your classes. A few demons shook your hand and introduced themselves when you went to the cafeteria to eat lunch while a few others glanced at you with fear, much to your confusion. The scrutiny in their gazes was nothing new, but the way it increased tenfold had you on the edge all day. The moment Seductive Speechcraft, which was your final class for the day, was dismissed, you bolted out of the classroom at once, sighing when you reached the first floor.
What a day, you thought.
As you had haphazardly put them on, you fixed the straps of your backpack on your shoulders and slowed your pace as you made your way to the exit. Once you reached the courtyard, however, to your surprise and panic, Diavolo was making his way to you, an exhausted Lucifer in tow.
A glance around the area made it seem as if no one was around, but you knew better. With the way everyone had been watching you like a hawk since you stepped inside the campus this morning, the demons interested in your affair with the Prince of the Devildom were present but hiding from plain sight.
“There you are,” Diavolo said, his tone elated and satisfied. He turned to Lucifer and addressed him, “I’ll take it from here. Thank you very much for your assistance, Lucifer.”
“You’re welcome.” Lucifer nodded, shooting an exasperated glance at you and Diavolo. “Seriously, it’s only been a day, and the two of you are already such a handful…”
With a shake of his head, Lucifer left the two of you to your devices and climbed the staircase on the way to the Student Council Room.
As soon as Lucifer was out of sight, Diavolo stepped closer to you and moved to give you the item he was holding. “Here.”
“For me?”
“Yes.”
You outstretched your hands and accepted his gift: a budding Mirage Flower in a little crimson pot with a golden ribbon tied around its center. Colorful iridescent petals glimmered in the most enchanting way you had ever witnessed, and you took a moment to appreciate their beauty. Every time you happened to see this flower, that time when you and the brothers were all worried about a ‘thief’ running around in the Devildom and stealing this plant, valuable and an endangered species, from the Western Forest would pop inside your mind. The ‘thief’ turned out to be Diavolo, who had been sneaking into the forest and moving the flowers to the academy in hopes they could be admired by the denizens in this world better. It had given you and the brothers a shock when you found out, but all in all, it was a funny memory to look back on.
However, as you held the flower pot in your palm, where it fit perfectly, another thought struck you and led you to blurt out, “H-Hold on. Isn’t this illegal?”
Diavolo let out a booming laugh, his head thrown back and his hand over his stomach, neither confirming nor denying your assumption.
“Diavolo…” You twirled the end of the ribbon with your index finger, truly questioning the legality of his gift.
“You forget,” Diavolo said as he smiled mischievously, “that I’m the Prince of the Devildom.”
“Even so. Is it really okay for me to have a Mirage Flower?”
“Of course.” He nodded, a finger reaching out to touch the flower bud gently. “I wanted something unique to be the first flower I would give to you, and I know you’ll take care of it. Besides, you’re a thousand times more special than any Mirage Flower in the Devildom.”
Right. You were supposed to be the future Queen of the Devildom.
It would’ve been such a shame if the Mirage Flower had been plucked and left to wilt in time. This flower was too precious for such treatment. You were grateful for Diavolo’s foresight, preferring to receive such a special flower this way. As you warmed up to his gift, you thought of the spots you could place it in once you arrived home and decided you’d put it on your windowsill and water it as needed. “Thank you. It’s really beautiful. I promise to take very good care of it.”
“It’s my pleasure,” Diavolo said, one of his hands reaching out to stroke your hair and cup your cheek. His golden eyes gazed straight at your own intently, and you couldn’t find it in you to look away.“I’m looking forward to this weekend.”
Confused, you cocked your head to the side, unintentionally leaning into his touch. “Why? What’s going on this weekend?”
Diavolo took your free hand in his and kissed the back of it, his warm lips leaving a tingling sensation in their wake. “Our first date.”
Several gasps erupted from the students hiding from various spots around you, and a few loud squeals followed. A camera flashed from a photographer from the RAD Newspaper Club who had stumbled upon the scene by accident, documenting this moment for future reference. At this point, everyone was done trying to conceal their voices, the scene in front of them too interesting to ignore, sparking numerous conversations among them. You overlooked the ruckus, your attention solely focused on the man in front of you, your heart beating like a drum as you smiled shyly.
“I’m looking forward to it, too.”

Drip.
Drip.
The thick warm blood irregularly dripped onto the rotting floor as Theodore tried to wrestle out the large glass shard that was lodged deep in his skull. He knew that pulling it out would only cause him to bleed more, but he had no other choice, his body just wouldn't heal around it. It's not like he could even go to a hospital. They ask questions there. Too many questions. He hissed in pain, fingers slipping over the smooth, wet surface, making the job ten times harder than what it already was.
Fear and pain overwhelmed his senses to the point where he couldn't even hear the squeaks of the wooden planks that normally annoyed him to no end. He only noticed that someone was in the small room with him when a pair of tiny pale feet stopped right infront of him.
"Stay back baby, there's glass on the floor." He let his hand fall down, the stubborn shard finally dislodged from his forehead, "Go back to your room, I'm okay." The obvious lie slipped through his blooded lips like smooth butter, if there was something Theodore excelled exceptionally at, it was lying with confidence so great that you would believe him over your very own eyes.
"Why don't you stop him?" Fran asked meekly, shoulders tense and lips pouty, his fingers fidgeting with the hem of his favourite shirt violently enough to tear the delicate embroidery his dad had spend countless hours on.
Theodore lifted his head, his tired eyes taking in the heart wrenching sight of the boy he grew to call his son. Fran's whole body was trembling, his small fingers red and bruised from unconsciously fighting with the thread, his nose was swollen, the skin around his eyes was puffy. It was clear as day that the little boy had been crying for a while now.... probably since the fight started.
"Franny," Theo started softly, "I'm alright now. It's over, okay? Just go to your room, I'll follow you in a bit. Promise."
But the little vampire didn't budge, his cold feet planted firmly on the floor, lips forming a thin line accompanied by a deep frown barely hidden by loose white curls. Theodore sighed, he wanted so badly to hold his son's hands and carry him back to his room like he did every night before, but he was scared if he'd moved even an inch more he'd tear his shirt even further, revealing more bruises and cuts, subsequently traumatizing the boy more. So he stayed put.
"Why don't you stop him?" Fran repeated.
"Baby you know I-"
"WHY DON'T YOU STOP HIM?!"
The abrupt outburst took Theodore by surprise, making him flinch back on the bed. His wide blue eyes were chaotic as they searched the smaller one's face for any ounce of sympathy. It was silly, really, to be looking for such emotions in a clearly overwhelmed and traumatized kid, but Theo couldn't help himself, couldn't help the fear that was eating away at him, one angry word at a time.
"I know you can, Teddy. You used to stand up to daddy! And he was a VAMPIRE!" Fran said with a bit of pride in his voice, "You know what? I think we should go back to living with him! Maybe Elliot is waiting for us there! And the-"
"Elliot left. He isn't waiting for us anywhere, he doesn't want us anymore." Theodore shrunk back to himself when he noticed the amount of venom in his voice, "Besides Franny, you know I'll never let him hurt you. I'll never let anyone hurt you." He tried giving the most reassuring smile he could muster with the dull ache in his bruised cheeks.
Fran was silent for a long, dreadful second before hot tears raced down his face, "You can't even protect yourself..."
That sentence was like a punch to the gut. He never thought about the consequences that their constant fighting had on his son. He thought, no, he made himself believe that as long as Fran was in no immediate physical danger, everything was okay. It almost frightened him just how much he was willing to ignore and sweep under the rug just to let himself feel like a good father.
"I don't feel safe here... I'm scared." Fran sniffled, "I'm scared that one day I'll wake up and-and find you dead!" It was getting harder for the little vampire to speak as the tears kept flowing, "Or.. or  that you would... would just leave me here like Elliot did... or.. or yo-" violent sobs wrecked his body, forbidding him from finishing his sentence.
Theodore was lost. He promised Rouge and Elliot.. fuck those two, he promised himself that he would give Fran the best life possible, and yet here he is... shaking and wailing helplessly... He needed to do something, and he needed to do it fast. But what? What could he do?
What would dad have done? Dad wouldn't let himself be in this fucking situation. But if he was ... what would he have done?? Theodore's hands were now shaking uncontrollably as he tried to think of an answer. He would've pulled me close. Held me tight in his arms and told me that he'll keep me safe no matter what. That everything will be okay. Yes. Yes... that's what he would've done.
And so he reached forward, taking the now bloodied tiny hands in his and pulling Fran into his arms, holding the sobbing boy as tight as he could.
But the truth is. What his father would've done is vastly different that what Theodore should've done. Because in that moment of pure loss and desperation, he forgot one crucial detail... Fran can't handle being touched. Especially not being hugged.
Fran yanked himself backwards with powers unnatural to him, his body was sent flying until he hit the floor with a loud thud that almost made Theodore's heart stop, but to the boy, anything was better then being held like that.
"Franny... I'm so sorry... I forgo-" Before he could finish his sentence, the vampire was on his feet and running out the room. His loud footsteps quickly fading into nothingness before the deafening slam of a door shook the old house to it's core.
Theodore let himself fall back on the bed, sending small dust particles flying all over him and irritating his allergies. He quickly placed a hand over his nose to stop himself from inhaling any of that dust, he can't afford having his brains ooze out his wounds if he sneezed.
His eyes closed before he could decide otherwise. It's okay... it will be okay.. he'd probably gone to bed now, I should do that too. Tomorrow will be different, it will be better, I'll make some scrambled eggs and bacon.. wait no, Fran is a vegetarian you idiot, he doesn't eat that shit!... fuck. I can make uh... grilled cheese sandwiches.. yeah he'll surely like that....
But deep down Theodore knew that he isn't a kid that can go to bed when he is tired or in pain anymore, he is an adult now, with a kid of his own and all the responsibilities that come with it..
The obnoxious sound of the sports channel blaring from the living room and the rhythmic pouring of rain on the window along with phantom barking of a distant dog were like a hammer smashing into Theodore's head over and over again. Every little sound was cranked up to a hundred, even his own heartbeating was agonizing.
He forced his body to sit back up, becoming face to face with the long mirror nailed to the wall which seemed to be closing in on him. Theodore instinctively pushed himself backwards until his back hit the cold wall as the room began fold in on itself until the mirror was nearly touching his feet. He wrapped his arms around his body in an attempt to ground himself as his claustrophobia kicked in and his breathing quickened to a painful degree.
He forced his eyes shut, trying to focus on anything but the walls that were now touching every inch of him. And his thoughts drifted back to the only place they could... Is it possible Franny is scared like this now? He feels unsafe.. he said that himself.. I can't just leave him alone in his room until the next sunset... that's not what dad would've done.. that's..that's what mom did... leave me alone and ignore me when I needed her most then pretend nothing happened the next day... that's what I was going to do...
The thought made his eyes shoot open only to be faced with her image in the mirror, blue eyes staring down at him with familiar disappointment. His blood boiled. He is becoming her! Repeating the cycle of neglectful abuse and torment until noone survives. In a moment of blind rage he balled his fist and swiftly moved to shatter the mirror and all the pain it was causing, but he found himself slammed to the floor, bloody knuckles causing a dent in it... it seems as tho the wall was still as far away as it always had been.
He stayed there for a moment, tears pouring down unapologetically as he tried to compose himself. He soon found enough willpower to stand up, but before he could take a step forward, sharp pain shot up straight to his head, forcing him to grab onto the nearest wall for balance.
Once the pain dulled down enough for him to be able to open his eyes, he looked down at the apparent source, only to see that his right ankle had doubled in size, blue and swollen as if there was a tennis ball underneath the skin. He rested the back of his head on the window, feeling the cold droplets of rain leaking through and falling on his cheeks.
He sighed, he would heal, he always did. But it would take time, and unlike Silas, this fucker never cared for him after beating him up. Theodore chuckled to himself, never in a million years did he think he would use Silas as a positive example for anything, goes to show just how low his life had sunk.
Nevertheless, he needs to persist, not for himself but for the little vampire that depended on him.
He thought about taking a quick shower to wash off all the blood, but something told him not to, to just check on Fran as soon as possible, and Theodore's gut feeling had never failed him before, so he always followed it, even if he knew that his son was safe in his bed, wrapped in a fluffy blanket that Theo had spent all his money on. He smiled, remembering how Franny's eyes twinkled when he first saw the bee pattern on it. Oh how he wishes he would see him this happy every second of every day.
Still smiling, he managed to take off the ripped shirt without aggravating his injuries too much. He held the black tee in his hands, staring at the bright neon pink "Angel♡" written on it in a metal font with the white signature of the singer along the neck.
He got this shirt 2 years back when he went to the live performance, Angel wasn't even the main performer back then, they were merely the opening act. Given how small they were, they didn't have a signing booth, it was actually pure luck that Theodore managed to meet them outside while they were waiting for a taxi.
And he thought that Rouge was tall! Angel was at least eight feet, to the point where he felt like a little cat after cranking his neck up so high just to be able to see their face, and what a truly terrifying face it was! Almost nightmarish with their black bug eyes and their long pointy teeth! But they were nice, maybe a bit blunt and lacking a social filter, but after being with Fran for a while, Theodore got used to unwanted comments... wait.. Fran... now THAT is what he was here to do!
He immediately put his favourite shirt down on a nearby wooden chair, promising to fix the rip the moment he can carry something as delicate as a needle without his hands shaking and dropping it, he threw on an oversized sweater that used to belong to Elliot, a pair of ghost patterned pyjama pants and made his way to the corridor.
Theodore was still grabbing onto the walls as he limbed his way to the door covered in stickers, it was slightly ajar which was strange considering that Fran had slammed it, but with how rusted the hinges are, anything is possible. He slowly pushed the door open, peering into the dark room, noticing how the moonlight softly illuminated the blanket-covered lump on the bed.
He should be happy? Maybe relieved? But instead, all he could feel is the bile rising to his throat, and he just couldn't tell why, perhaps he was just anxious about the impending talk. Yes. It must be that.
Theodore slowly stepped toward the small bed, feeling the mattress sink under his weight as he sat on it. "Hey Franny..." no answer, "It's me Teddy," again, nothing. He sighed, rubbing his hand over his aching neck, "listen I came here to apologise, and I... are you asleep??" He pulled down the blanket only to see that it was only a group of plushies in the vague shape of a kid.
Adrenaline shot through his body making him forget all about his pain and injuries as he quickly opened the closet, looked under the bed, tore the covers from the bed. Yet.... Fran is nowhere to be seen.
"FRAN!" Theodore yelled at the top of his lungs, "FRAAAANN!" He stood aimlessly in the little room filled with the missing boy's trinkets and drawings, his breath so fast he could hear it as he impatiently waited for an answer, "Baby where are you?!"
He could feel the little plushies staring at him, knowing where his baby is but not telling him, they don't want Fran to go back to being with such a horrible father. Theodore grabbed his son's favourite one, a large fluffy bee he had won for him during a passing carnival. He forcefully held it, his fingers smearing the blood all over the bright yellow as he shook it back and forth in the air.
"Where is he goddamn it! Where is he?" He screamed over and over again at the defenseless bee.
To anyone passing by, this seems like complete and utter madness, a father interrogating a stuffed animal instead of searching the whole house for his missing son? But to Theodore in the moment, it made sense. These plushies were the closest to the little vampire, they know his secrets and feelings more than Theo ever apparently did. So it must be obvious that they would be the ones knowing where his precious baby would be.
"I know you know! So just tell me!" His voice broke as a pained sob took over him, making him hold onto the door handle as his knees seemed to buckle under him. "I'll make it better... I swear.."
"He went out you crazy bitch!" The familiar gruff voice came from the living room, it was naturally loud enough to drown out everything else, even the news channel. Or perhaps that was just Theodore's mind only focusing on what matters to him, whichever case it was, he heard it loud and clear.
"What?" He whispered, soft and almost silent; like a deer caught in headlights, he couldn't move a single muscle in his body. He was painfully aware of this, too; the fact that he is just. Sitting. There. Like a useless piece of shit. His brain screamed at him to 'MOVE IT YOU FUCKER! MOVE!' But his body was almost paralyzed, unable to do anything, not even blink.
It may have taken mere seconds to get up and be in the living room, but it felt like years. Years of him being useless and worthless.
He ran down the short corridor.
He ran.
And ran.
And ran.
And with every step, the corridor seemed to stretch further and further, the end feeling more like a mirage as countless doors strung on the walls. Screams were erupting from behind them, defeaning and terrifying. A minute of thinking would've made him recognize the voice as Fran's, and this was one of the many instances where he regretted ever doing that. Theodore shut his eyes, covering his ears with his hands and just ran forward like a fish in the deep dark ocean where the sun can't reach.
"What do you mean?" His voice was erratic when he finally made it to the living room, gripping the worn down sofa that his "boyfriend" was sitting calmly on, as if a kid isn't out in the dark and rain all on his own.
"He's just breathing some air after all that shit you caused!" The man turned to look at him, "You think I didn't hear all that? Well news flash baby, I have ears."
His absolute nonchalance about the whole thing was irritating Theodore to no end, and Theodore wore his emotions on his sleeves. His eyes darkened dangerously as he almost felt himself growl, but he had to control himself as that would definitely get him another beer bottle to the head.
The man chuckled softly, putting his large hand on top of Theodore's much tinier one, "You're too worried about him, Francis is-"
"Fran." He corrected in a low, deep voice.
"Whatever, same thing. Point is, he is a little man now! If he wants to go out and calm his nerves after you wrecked them, then let him!" He smiled, trying to pull the shorter man towards him, but he didn't budge. "Listen baby, you need to give him some time to work out his emotions, stop getting in his business you little helicopter!"
The man pulled again, this time successfully getting the half dissociated Theodore around the sofa and onto his lap. When he said it like that.... it almost made sense. Fran isn't eight and he really was hurt by all that Theo had done tonight and most nights before that, he does need some time to process all that. Or maybe that was just his way of feeling less guilty, believing that this is just a natural reaction rather than face the fact that his son's terrible immune system won't handle the cold and rain.
"That's right baby," the man held Theodore close, and like a moth to flame he leaned into it, craving any sort of affection and sympathy, "calm down now," his rough hands gently petted Theo's curls which were now matted with a mixture of blood, bear and sweat, "it's all okay," He moved his hand down, moving over Theodore's back in slow and rhythmic circles. "Daddy's here," testing his luck, the man moved his hand further down and gripped Theodore's buttocks firmly.
This sent reality crushing down on the poor man, this isn't okay. Nothing about a frail and sickly eleven year old kid being alone outside in the raining night in a place surrounded with dangerous wildlife is okay. No matter how hard he wants to shake the guilt off. How hard he wants to lean into this rare moment of gentleness. He can't. Not when his son is all alone. Not in a million years.
Theodore placed his hands on his boyfriend's large chest and pushed himself off his lap, getting to his feet as quickly as he can without losing his balance and running to the door as if he is a prisoner that just found the keys.
"Well fuck you too slut! I never wanted your trashy ass anyway! Go get eaten by wolves! You and your annoying ass kid!"
But Theodore had already made it outside and started the long process of running around aimlessly and yelling Fran's name at the top of his lungs. After thoroughly running through the front yard, he took a deep freezing breath and made his way into the surrounding woods where the fading moonlight didn't reach.
He quickly lit up the lighter, the rain putting out the flame before he could do anything, so he bent down, wrapping his body around it like a deer would to her fawn, and tried lighting it up again. The small flame persisted long enough for it to turn blue and be transferred onto Theodore's palm.
He extended the demonic flame infront of his face, making his eyes twinkle with otherworldly lights, he was hoping that animals would find it's strange color intimidating rather than inviting, and that Fran would recognize it as his and find him. Clearly too much faith in a silly little flame, even if it is magical in nature.
Theodore's feet got sliced and bruised by the rocks and thorns on the ground, but nevertheless he persisted, his dark fingers gripping the ancient trunks for dear life, not caring about the skin being scratched and peeled off if them.
He opened his mouth to yell for his boy, "Fraaan.." he coughed, hoping that his voice would come back, "Fra.... fuck me." His voice was gone, almost completely after the endless screaming and yelling he did this night, both while searching for Fran and the big fuckin fight that had happened before.
With no voice to speak of, Theodore felt... weak. He couldn't yell for Fran and the hope that the boy would see the flame on his own and follow it is... statistically very low. He was defeated. He failed himself, his father, Fran... everyone that can be failed.
He made his way out of the forest, he had already searched the surrounding area on foot. He had the small tiny twinkle of hope that Fran had made his way back home alone, that he really was just breathing some air. That he is now safe and cuddled underneath the blanket. Safe. And sound.
Theodore stood infront of the closed door. Body shaking from the cold rain and pain, he stood there for a while, just letting the tears silently fall down, not daring to go inside and face the truth.
"Teddy?" A small familiar voice echoed in his head, making him smile a little. He had been first given that nickname by his mom, but now that Franny used to call him that, it no longer feels... humiliating. It feels warm and comfortable, it feels like a purpose and having someone that depends on you and trusts you.
"Teddy!" The small voice came again, this time angrier, like a tiny kitten's hiss.
Is it possible that this.. isn't in Theodore's head? That Fran was actually yelling for him?
He tore his eyes away from the door and looked around, and sure enough, he easily spotted the head of white fluffy hair struggling to get out of under his boyfriend's car.
Theodore rushed to help his son get out without being scratched or injured, he held the boy's tiny hands and pulled slowly, stopping to fluff down his shirt to make the sliding easier. Once his bottom was out, his short legs were an easy task.
"Thank gawd! I thought I was gonna be stuck under there forever! Or that that bastard was gonna drive tomorrow and I'll become tomato paste!" The little boy was flailing his arms around as he spoke, finally settling for a dramatic break as while saying "tomato paste!"
He tried keeping himself composed, he really did, slowly stroked his son's curls, but quickly enough Theodore crumbled. Exhaustion, pain and all that worry that he was barely holding, finally broke him. He hid his face behind his hands as he cried uncontrollably. His drenched shoulders shaking with each painful sob.
"Teddy?" Fran asked worriedly, his soft voice kept quiet as if Theodore was a rabbit that he didn't want to scare off. "Why are you crying?"
It might seem like a stupid question given the circumstances, and if it was anyone else, Theodore would've given them the deathglare. But he knew that Franny genuinely couldn't understand the consequences of actions, wether they were his own or others. So he simply sniffled and smiled as bright as he could, resuming to fluff up his baby's hair.
Fran's face scrunched up as if he had tasted a lemon, his soft features all grouping in the middle of his face. But he didn't mind this, not really, he just found it fun to do this face because he doesn't get to often. And Theodore knows this, they spoke about this before... before this..  him.
"I wanna sleeeeeeeeeeep." Fran whined while pouting, earning him an honest chuckle from his dad.
Theodore opened his arms as his son jumped up, landing perfectly on his waiting shoulder. Fran swung his feet, accidentally hitting his father's chest a few times, not too many times tho as he was doing his absolute best to avoid it. But that swinging was making it harder for Theo to safely stand up, but he made do and made his way back indoors carrying his son like a sack of potatoes, which is the only way Franny likes to be held.
Deep in his mind, Theodore knew that this won't be the end of this abusive relationship, he was too dependent, too afraid of being abandoned and left alone to leave. But the cracks were only becoming more and more prominent, and hell was knocking on their door.

it’s all so simple (one shot)
a short fic about Charlie and Albus bonding.
~~~~~~
I don't want to get married. I don't want to have children. I'm happy the way I am. And if you love me, you'll be happy for me too.
Charlie had recited that mantra for as long as he could remember. He told himself in the mirror before he was ready to tell his family. He told his favorite dragon Topaz as he was petting her scaly muzzle.
“There isn’t anything wrong with me!” He bellowed into a puddle, staring at his reflection stubbornly.
Topaz nudged him, tired of him venting to himself. He would laugh, run a hand through his messy red hair, and continue reminding himself that what he was feeling was normal. Wasn’t he?
His mum had persisted the most. Asking him every time he visited when was he ever going to find a nice young woman to settle down with. Eventually, he had told her firmly that the answer was never. He had fancied men for as long as he could remember. She, and the rest of the family had been accepting. He hadn't expected any less. But then the questions changed. When was he going to find a nice young man to marry and perhaps adopt children with.
At one point, he thought he had found someone. Alexander. A fellow dragon keeper. But he wanted things that Charlie couldn't give him. So it ended like that. Amicably, of course. No pressure involved, thank Merlin. But it still stung, like a burn from a dragon's breath. Except with less blood. And he recovered a lot faster and didn't need to cover it with a tattoo.
When he was a younger man, he had doubts about himself. When all of his siblings married and started to have kids of their own, the anxiety of being the odd one out definitely took a toll on him. Was there something wrong with him?
But as the years passed, those feelings subsided. He was happy where he was with his career. He loved his family. He loved his nieces and nephews and being the 'cool uncle' showing off his newest burns and scars-- usually overdramatizing the tale. And as time went on, finally his family stopped asking. That made his visits less stressful. He didn’t have to worry about them pestering him.
The summer visits to the Burrow were always a rare treat. Sometimes he couldn't come for various work reasons. But when he did, he was always excited. One particular afternoon, all of the kids decided to play a game of Quidditch in the garden. The adults were responsible for making sure none of them were injured and taking care of the little ones. Charlie relaxed from the back, enjoying the sunshine and counting each child to make sure they were included. Lily, Vic, Hugo, Dom, and Roxanne were one team, while James, Rose, Freddie, Louis, Molly Jr and Teddy were another.
"Hey!" Hugo shouted. "They have one more teammate!" He pointed at James' team.
Charlie frowned. He thought there were enough kids for sure. Yes, Lucy was only four and couldn't play but Albus...
"Come on, Al, you're on the blue team." James groaned, already frustrated from the heat and his little brother.
"I don't want to be on the blue team!' Albus said stubbornly. "I don't wanna be on any team. I hate Quidditch."
Several of the other children looked outraged. No Weasley hated Quidditch. It was in their blood.
"Don't be silly, Albus." Victoire said, looking at the younger boy kindly. "You don't mean that. Come on, we can be Beaters together." She offered him the bat, which he scowled and huffed away from.
"No, I don't want to." Albus shook his head furiously.
"He only hates it because he's bad at it." James mumbled under his breath.
"James!" Ginny snapped.
Albus, filled with rage, tossed the bat aside as he stormed away. It snapped in half from the impact. Lily and Hugo gasped in horror.
"Albus Severus, you're too old to be breaking things!" Harry rubbed his nose tiredly. "Come back here this instant!"
"I'll get him," Charlie offered, nodding at Ginny. "Don't worry Gin."
"Thanks Char." Ginny murmured.
Luckily it wasn't too hard to find a ten year old who seemed to think hiding behind a row of bushes and gnomes was a good hiding place. His heart dropped when he heard tiny sobs from behind the bush.
"Hey bud," Charlie awkwardly brushed aside the prickly bushes and sat beside the boy, who's eyes were puffy and red. He made sure his voice was quiet, approachable. Last thing he wanted was to be as stoic and apathetic as Percy.
"Go away. I don't want to play Quidditch." Albus said shakily. He turned to face Charlie, eyes shining with tears. He seemed to hesitate when he saw his favorite uncle.
"You don't have to, that's not why I'm here." Charlie assured him. "Just wanted to have a chat. Everything okay?"
Albus sniffed, shaking his head.
"Sorry, dumb question. Do you wanna talk about it?"
Albus was an open book, especially to Charlie, who had grown fonder and protective of the little Potter. He wasn't like his siblings or cousins. He was quiet, exceptionally bright but very timid.
"I'm not like them," He whispered, biting his lip. "I'm bad at everything."
Charlie snorted. "Really? The boy who nursed a wounded bowtruckle back to health at age eight is 'bad at everything'? Sorry if I find that hard to believe."
"But I'm not good at Quidditch."
"Quidditch isn't everything." Charlie said, summoning a handkerchief, which Al took gratefully.
"Still, I'm different." Albus said glumly. "They think I'm weird."
"Yes, you are. And that's what makes you so wonderful." Albus didn't look convinced, so he continued. "You know, you're a lot like me."
Al scoffed. "I don't play Quidditch though. You're brilliant, I've seen you play and I know you were Gryffindor captain. Mum told me."
Charlie nudged him softly. "I'm touched, mate. But no, what I mean is I was quiet too. I loved the outdoors, never really fit in with other kids my age. And that's okay."
"But you're so...cool."
"You are too! Well, maybe one day you'll be as cool as me. Though, don't aim for the impossible. Those aren't mutually exclusive."
Albus laughed lightly, which Charlie considered a win. But there was something in his eye that didn't seem right.
"Alright, Al?"
Albus fiddled with pieces of grass uncomfortably. He looked desperate to say something, but whatever was troubling him held him back.
"Is that why you never married?" He asked finally. Then he turned pink, mortified at how blunt that sounded. "I mean- not like you - I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude."
Charlie chuckled, shaking his head. "S' alright, I'm not offended. To answer your question, er, no."
"I realize how horrible that sounded the second it came out." Albus said, looking down. "I'm really sorry."
"The simple answer is, despite my ruggedly handsome good looks and my charming personality, I chose not to marry." He explained, grinning. "I just didn't want to. I've dated several blokes-"
"Blokes?" Albus' eyes lit up, a moment that was so quick, anyone who wasn't Charles Weasley could have missed it.
"Heh, you bet." He ruffled Al's curls. "I dated, and I found out on my own I'm happy where I am. Just like you aren't forced to play Quidditch, I'm not forced to get married. Of course those two are completely different things but my point still stands. I love my family, my friends and career."
"And...that's okay?"
"Sure is. Why wouldn't it be?"
Albus seems satisfied with that answer. "I might not marry either." He said firmly.
"Eh?"
"When you get married, you become boring." Al explained as if it was obvious. "You're cool, and you have the best job on the planet. So...I think I'll be like you and stay single."
"Well, you're only ten-"
"I might date though." He said hastily. "Pretty girls, maybe. But I don't think I'm ready for that sort of commitment." He folded his hands, surprisingly mature.
"Again, you're only ten."
Albus shrugged, grinning cheekily. "Just kidding."
Charlie couldn't help but laugh. "We'll see. Don't worry too much though. Really you should wait until you know for sure. So...do you wanna play something? Just the two of us."
"Not Quidditch?"
"Nope. Whatever you want to play."
"Wizard Chess!" He looked up eagerly. "Please?"
Charlie nodded, a mischievous glint in his eye. "You're on."
And the remainder of the evening, Uncle and nephew played chess until their hearts were content.
Torn Fabric pt.0
“Lacrymosa”
Gia, a depressed English major back home early for summer break, revisits a fixation they had when they were a teen. Thus sparking the chaotic chain of events that will completely recontextualize their life.
(Parame uses they/them)
“Out on your own”
“Cold and alone again”
By far the greatest flaw of human design was making them social creatures, practically pack animals like wolves and elephants. Humans cannot function properly without socialization, a trait ingrained after a millennia of evolution. But because of that trait, there was loneliness. If a human being went long enough without social interaction it set in, wriggling around their body like a parasite.
Sure, a human can be alone without being lonely, but after a while that separation dissipates. The line grows thin. Especially after weeks of unanswered texts and stood up dinner hangouts. Sure, it wasn’t like Gia was being avoided on purpose, it was about a week before the end of the semester and finals were approaching at high speeds. They needed to study and to rest, Gia was just clingy.
Gia realized just how bland food tasted when eaten alone.
They shook their head, dismissing the thought. It didn’t matter, they were leaving campus on Monday and then none of that would matter. The loneliness, the bland food, the unanswered texts would all be over and done with. They didn’t need anyone, they were just clingy. Gia could easily distract themself with drawing or watching horror movies on sketchy streaming sites.
They handled it so well they insisted on coming home early. Their friends were busy with finals, Gia would just be a distraction. Removing themself was the most logical thing to do, besides, they missed their cats. They missed home.
They didn’t know why they thought coming home early would make them feel better. It was just like back at campus, save for the hundreds of 18-24 year olds. After they had been brought home by their parents they had left for their two week Vegas trip.
“That works out really well actually,” Gia’s mother had texted, “That way we have someone looking after the cats.”
Gia was still wholly, utterly, alone.
Well, that wasn’t entirely the truth, they still had their cats.
But the loneliness persisted.
Distractions, distractions, distractions…
Gia went to work and interacted with their coworkers, when they weren’t working they were in Barnes and Noble. Their favorite manga, Record of Ragnarok, had gotten an official localization, so there was something.
That kept them busy for about… two days. The novelty wore off the minute they reread the manga for the third time. Sure it was great to have a physical copy of one of their favorite mangas but once the volume is finished…then what? The next issue would be out next month, what would Gia do until then??
Boredom.
Loneliness.
It was a toxic cocktail swimming through their head, infecting the very core of their being. All Gia could do was follow the routine of wake up, feed cats, fester, go to work, feed cats dinner, fester more, sleep, and repeat.
Gia found themselves at the “fester some more” stage.
Lying in bed sprawled out on top of the comforter, the air conditioner offering some relief from the heat and white noise to fill the otherwise silent room. Gia eyes were glued to their bedroom’s popcorn ceiling, in the same pajamas they’d been wearing for the past two days.
Surely, the dream world would offer some form of entertainment, some relief, but Gia just couldn’t sleep. They shifted their head, something had been digging into the back of their neck for the past few hours.
“Jesus…what is that?”
Only now did they bother to come out of their detached stupor and finally do something about it. Under the lumpy pillow they felt for it, their pale hand brushing against something rough and sort of grainy.
Gia pulled out an amethyst cluster.
‘Oh god, how long has that been there?’ They thought, letting out a single, dry laugh. It was a relic from a simpler time, when Gia was fourteen. That was when they discovered witchcraft and spell work, and dove first into it to combat boredom. That hyperfixation lasted them a good few years. Looking at the cluster of misty purple quartz brought them back; the store they bought it from would always have a different tea for customers to sample amongst all the books and ritual tools. Being there would make them forget whatever stresses they were going through. Gia would just cast a spell ( put a bunch of symbols on paper and burn it) and everything would just melt away.
Gia hadn’t done spellwork for a long time, and that store closed a little over a year ago at this point. Though the remnants remained on top of Gia’s bookshelf, various crystals, candles, and mason jars sat collecting dust for all those years.
Their eyes lingered on a purple candle.
It wouldn’t hurt right?
They took the purple candle, along with an orange and silver one, a clear quartz point, and the amethyst. The living room had the best view of the moon, and with it being full that night it would offer a great backdrop for their spell, just like old times. They arranged the objects on the small coffee table facing the window, the moon bathing the room in dim white light. Purple, silver, orange, the silver one directly under the moon’s gaze.
The click of a lighter and the orange light mixed into the darkness
Gia placed the amethyst before the candles, keeping the clear quarts in their hand and pointing it up at the moon. Truthfully, they felt a little silly, if someone saw them like that they’d surely think Gia was crazy.
They took a breath.
“Please….” they began, “whatever god, whatever power is willing to listen…I beg you: destroy this loneliness!”
They shouted the last part, a beg to the universe to get rid of that awful, awful void deep inside them. They didn’t care how it may or may not manifest, they just didn’t want to be so alone.
But, realistically, that wouldn’t happen. Things would inevitably stay the same in their boring world.
The Most Memorable Halloween
Tumblr media
A/N: HAPPY HALLOWEEN! Here it is, my last story for this special month, the thirteenth story I promised you guys! And… it’s a OT7 fanfic! I usually prefer to write only for one member at a time, but for this story I wanted something special so I included all of them. The relationship with the reader can be read however you like, be it romantic, platonic or just as a friend! Up to you! Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this series and that you like this story for the finale. Love you guys and let me know what you think!
Summary: You take all the members of BTS to go out camping during the Halloween weekend. Just the eight of you. What could possibly go wrong?
Warnings: HORROR! But not quite, just a spooky idea I had and wanted to share! Hope you all like it!
Word Count: 4769
There was a particular difficult issue that you always knew would come up when you first got to know the seven boys of BTS. Getting close to them, befriend them, caring for them would end up being incredibly frustrating during special days, like birthdays or Christmas or Valentine’s Day. And the reason why was simple: they were rich and already had any and everything you could envision them wanting for themselves.
Coming up with gift ideas became so stressful to you, that the boys had to put on an intervention one day and make you promise that you would never buy any of them a present ever again. So, since then, special days were celebrated with kind words and long messages to each other, lots of food and drinks if you could all be together and an overall good time in each other’s company.
And yet, when a friend of yours got a job as park ranger at a beautiful national park with amazing views, you got an idea. That particular park was closed down as they were redoing some of the roads and adding trails for hikers, being safer to just close off access to any pedestrians or campers for the month of October. So, if your friend could get you and the boys into the park, no one would be there to recognize them or bother them. And they had the weekend of Halloween off just in time.
It took a bit of persuading, but it’s not something Taffy hadn’t done before for her friend’s or something you had done for her back in the day. It would be just for the weekend, when no one would be working in construction either way, and she would be at the station in case anything went wrong.
In your eyes, it was the perfect gift you could give them. The boys liked camping, but they only ever did it with a bunch of cameras, never really just by themselves. They have been talking about a trip like this for months. And you could offer them just that.
“Have a good stay up there, babe” Taffy’s voice came in through the walkie talkie she gave you as you met her at the station to come in.
“Thanks, I owe you big time, queen” you radio back at her, a smile on your lips as you look out the van’s window while you continue up the path.
“Yeah, you do. Just watch out for wildlife and new forks in the roads. They haven’t put up the new signs yet” she warns.
“Will do. See you tomorrow.”
With that you decide to keep the walkie in your backpack before you ended up losing it.
“I still can’t believe we are actually doing this!” an excited Taehyung next to you says, a boxy smile and sparkling eyes thrown at you.
“It’s going to be fun. We’ll put up the tents, make a fire and eat some s’mores…” Hoseok chips in, sitting across the table from you with that usual cheery smile of his. “We’ll drink some beers and dance under the stars!”
“Yeah, I don’t know about the smores” Yoongi warns, on the other side of the moving van, body leaning against the window on his side, but looking your way. “We didn’t buy any marshmallows, so unless you packed some, no can do.”
“What?!” Hoseok turns around in his seat to talk to Namjoon, who was currently on the passenger side upfront, next to a driving Jungkook. “Say, Namjoon, did you buy the marshmallows like I asked?”
“Hum? What?” He does his best to turn around in his seat and look at us, but you can only see half of his square jaw and one of his slim eyes as he stretches, short hair covered by a cap.
“The s’mores for tonight” Hoseok persists.
“Oh, crap. Sorry, totally forgot about it!” Hoseok sighs in disappointment, and Namjoon feels guilty about it. “Should I go back and buy some?”
“No, of course not. It’s okay, another time we’ll have some” Hoseok remains positive and smiles brightly again, much to the leader’s relief.
“Yeah, this won’t be the last time we go camping, surely” Jimin, sitting next to Hoseok across from you and Taehyung, comforts him although he didn’t seem to need it any longer. “If I remember next time, I’ll buy you some myself, hyung.”
“How’s it going, JK? Is it much longer?” Jin yells as he leans to try and see the driver from his seat across from Yoongi.
“What?” Jungkook asks back, turning his head towards us slightly but keeping his eyes on the road and hands steady on the wheel.
“How much longer?” Jin repeats.
“The last sign I saw said two miles to the camping ground” he answered.
“Okay, good job!” Jin compliments the youngest.
Soon enough you arrived at the camping site, some bathroom facilities nearby that your friend gave you the keys to use as well some wooden tables and benches. There were tall colorful trees surrounding the clearing where you would all be staying tonight, with a beautiful view to the peak of the mountain, high on the sky, so much further away.
The boys all jump out of the van even before Jungkook managed to shut the engine off, screaming and stretching their legs as they walk outside into the grass and fresh air. Jin and Namjoon both ask you for the keys to the bathroom since they had to go for a while, only for Taehyung to steal them out of your hands and go first, with a shouting angry Jin and an annoyed resigned Namjoon following after.
You help Yoongi and Hoseok taking out all the necessaries in terms of food preparing, while Jimin and Jungkook tried to set the two tents up. When the rest of the members joined, things picked up quickly and you, Jin and Yoongi got a station ready for cooking while the rest of them took care of everything else.
It was early afternoon when you all arrived, but the night was commencing by the time you all sat down to eat. The hours felt like minutes, not a moment passing by in boredom with these boys around. Be it Jin telling you his silly jokes as he sliced the ingredients next to you, Yoongi asking you to taste every dish he prepared multiple times to know if it was good, Namjoon trying his best to help only to look at you with guilty eyes as he holds in his hands a broken part of the chair he and Hoseok were assembling. Hobi laughing about it in disbelief with you. The three younger members all struggling to put up the tents at first, calling you to help them but you only end up stuck under the fabric of the tent when they let it fall on you.
Not a dull moment with them. And so, hours went by like minutes.
By the end of dinner, you are all sited in chairs around the fireplace – Namjoon siting on one that was missing an arm, since he broke it – all watching the starry sky in comfortable silent, interrupted occasionally by a remark or two.
“Thank you for bringing us out here, Y/N. You’re the sweetest” Jimin murmurs in a chair next to you, his hands moving from his lap to brush at the skin of your fluffy arm in a gentle manner.
“Oh, you are welcome, ChimChim. Anything for you guys” you assure him, patting his hand that stays placed on top of your wrist.
“I didn’t think we’d ever get to be out and about like this ever again, just us without cameras, without causing trouble” Yoongi confesses, with a bit of a slur and his accent coming out due to the few beers he had to drink.
“Yeah, me neither. It’s all thanks to you, sweetheart” Namjoon agrees, throwing you a dimpled smile that had you smiling right back at him.
“Guys, please, stop it” you say as you grow a bit embarrassed and uncomfortable.
“Ohh, I think she is blushing! Look at Y/N’s cute chubby cheeks going red!” Taehyung points out, a long index finger pointing playfully your way, a mischievous look in his eyes.
“Maybe the beer is getting to her head only now” Jin proposes in a chuckle, leaning forward to look at you with puffy lips tugging up.
“Shut up! It was only one beer, how lightweight to you think I am?” you try and defend yourself.
“Pretty lightweight if I recall from that night at the karaoke…” Jungkook chips in.
Knowing exactly the night he was referring to, and mortified that he would spill all the embarrassing bits to everyone, you end up taking your slipper and throwing at him. But he just catches it and giggles, throwing it back at you with measured strength.
“Wait, guys, shush!” Hoseok suddenly gasps from the opposite side from you, turning in his chair to look at the woods behind him. “Did… Did anyone hear that?”
“Is your mind already playing tricks on you, hyung?” Jimin questions.
“No, no, I heard something. Like a branch snapping” Hoseok persists, on edge. “A-Are there bears in this mountain or something?”
“You hear a branch cracking and your first thought goes immediately to bear?” Yoongi wonders, not sounding amused. “How about a rabbit, a fox or even a coyote before you think of something like a bear?”
Yoongi did have a point, and nobody heard anything except for Hoseok, but seeing how concern he was, you decide to appease him.
“I’ll call Taffy and ask her about what wildlife we are dealing with, okay, Hobi?”
“Thanks, Y/N, you’re a real angel. Unlike you guys!” He pouts at the rest of the group after throwing you an appreciative look of relief.
“Hey, Taffy, you there?” you say into the walkie-talkie you took out of your bag.
It takes her a minute or two, but she does respond.
“Hello there, gang. What’s up? Already bored?” she jokes.
“Nothing like that. Just wandering, what kind of animals are there in the mountain? We won’t be seeing any bears or anything like that, right?”
“Oh, we had some bears alright” she says through the static and Hoseok yelps while the rest of them widen their eyes at the walkie in your hands. You heart skips a bit in unexpected fright, but then she continues. “But since we are closed, there won’t be any large hairy gay men around any time soon, sorry to disappoint!”
A collective sigh of relief and a chuckle or two are heard around the fireplace and you pursue your lips as you close your eyes, imagining just smacking the back of her head if she was there with you for scaring you like that.
“Very funny, thanks for that” you sarcastically reply.
“No problem, anytime. But yeah, there’s only like foxes and wild cats to watch out for in here.”
“Good to know, we’ll be careful.”
“I see the smoke. You guys around a fireplace?”
“Yeah, we finished eating and we’re just relaxing before hitting the sack. Don’t worry, we’ll set it out before going to sleep” you promise her.
“Alright. Make sure the nine of you cuddle up for warmth, it will be cold tonight” she teases.
You know she is trying to tease and embarrass you, but you frown at what she says with a strange feeling instead. The boys don’t seem to pay it much attention apart from Namjoon and Jungkook, who look at you frowning as well.
“You mean eight. There is eight of us, me and the seven guys” you correct her.
The static goes silent for longer than it should and you realize that you have a bad feeling. Hoseok must have sensed it, cause his expression seems to mimic yours.
“She must have just counted wrong” Namjoon tries to calm you down.
“Hey” Taffy’s voice returns from the walkie and you don’t even realize you are now leaning in the chair, holding the device in front of you for everyone to hear it. “You guys all went down to the fountain to gather water, didn’t you?”
It was Jin who answered, a bit more serious now than he was before.
“Yeah, the buckets would be heavy to carry back to the camping site so we all went to help.”
“There are cameras every ten miles up the path and I saw you in one of them” she explains. “I’m looking at the recording right now and I count nine people walking by.”
A chill runs up your spine and your throat closes in on itself as you feel nauseated. This was not right; something was not right.
“Y/N, get everyone out. Come back to the station, there is someone else in the park!” your friend’s voice commands with assertiveness.
“OH MY GOD! I knew it, I knew it! There is A KILLER in here!” Hoseok starts to panic and, as much as you feel on the verge of terror yourself, you try to remain calm the best you can.
“Hobi, calm down” you say, running to him and placing your hands on his arms, rubbing them up and down through the sweater he had to try and keep him steady.
“Everyone on the van. NOW!” Namjoon orders and it takes less than thirty seconds for everyone to run inside the vehicle and leave all the stuff you had outside behind.
Instead of sitting, everyone seems to be looking out the windows with suspicion, into the dark distrustful woods, all the vehicle’s door locking as the sound of the motor roars to life. Only to stutter and crumble. Seven the heads suddenly snap to the driver’s seat, where Jungkook was again turning the key on the ignition. And the same happened.
“What the hell Jungkook! Get us out of here!” Jimin cries out, showcasing he was just as scared as Hoseok was looking right then.
“I’m trying! The van won’t start!” you can hear the guilt in his voice as he continues to try and try again to start the motor, but it just won’t work.
“We’re sitting prey! WE ARE SITTING PREY!” Hoseok is shaking profusely next to you and you hug him for support. His arms wrap around you as he leans his head against yours and breathes.
“No, we’re not. There was a ranger’s jeep on the side of that cabin next to the toilets, remember?” Namjoon starts, sounding a lot more confident than the clumsy man looked. “If we can get inside that cabin and find the keys, we can drive back to Taffy and wait for the police.”
“That’s IF we can even get to the cabin without encountering whoever is out there and IF we can get in and IF we can find the keys and IF the jeep even works!” Jin points out in a very matter of fact speedy speech that is difficult to keep up with. His nervousness was beginning to show. “How about we just lock ourselves here? Lock the van and wait for rescue? Y/N’s friend must have already called the police by now, we can wait here for them.”
“And be sitting ducks? Hell no!” Yoongi disagrees, biting at his nails before he speaks again. “I’m with Namjoon on this one. Whoever it’s out there, is just one person and there’s eight of us. And we don’t even know if they mean us any harm, they haven’t done anything yet.”
“Except messing with our van” Jungkook sighs irritated, giving up on starting the vehicle. “It worked perfectly before, someone must have messed with the engine.”
“Exactly, which means they wanted us here. They planned for us to stay here so, I say let’s get out there and try our luck with the jeep” Yoongi perseveres.
“You’re assuming they didn’t think we would wander off on our own, hyung! You don’t know! At least here we have four walls between us and whoever is out there, they wouldn’t get in” Jimin objects, sitting down and hugging his knees to his chest.
“Y-Yeah! S-so what if they shut the engine? We s-still have power so we can stay warm all night while they freeze outside!” Taehyung sides with Jimin, speaking for the first time in a while with evident fright in his voice but putting on a stoic front.
“What do you think, Y/N?” Jin asks you, coming to your side and taking your free hand into his while your other one was still around a terrified Hoseok’s back.
“I… I… I don’t know” you confess, completely undecisive. “Both ideas have their pros and cons. I don’t know which would be best, honestly.”
“Well, we do need your keys to try and get into the cabin. You still have the set of keys Taffy gave you, don’t you?” Namjoon asks.
“Oh, yeah, in my pocket” you say as you take them out. There were two other keys besides the ones for the toilets. “You think one of them is for the cabin?”
“Must be, right? It would make sense to have them all in one set if they’re next to each other.”
“I say let’s split up” Yoongi suddenly declares.
“What? That’s the worst idea, have you ever seen a horror movie?” Jungkook refutes. “We should all stick together, keep each other safe.”
“Well, we can’t seem to reach an agreement on what to do and we’re just wasting time. And this is not a horror movie, Jungkook, this is real life. We need to make our move and fast” Yoongi counters back.
“Let’s vote. Who wants to stay on the van?” Namjoon questions.
Jimin, Hoseok and Taehyung immediately raise their hands.
“Okay, who wants to try and get to the jeep?”
Namjoon and Yoongi raise their hands. Both Jin, Jungkook and you stay neutral, unsure of what to pick. But Yoongi was right, you had to make your move sooner rather than later. So, with a deep breath, you go and stand between Namjoon and Yoongi, your decision made.
“I want to try and get out of here. Siting here, doing nothing, just creeps me out. I’ll go with them.”
“No, Y/N!” Jimin pouts with worry and stretches his arm to pull on yours, but you shake your head. Seeing his sad expression, you take his face in between your hands and peck at his forehead.
“If we get to the jeep, we’ll come back for you so we can all leave this place together. No one gets left behind” you promise them.
“I’ll go with them too” Jungkook decides, getting up from his driver’s seat and joining the group. A protective hand lands on your shoulder and you feel a little bit better.
“Then I’ll stay on the van. Keep an eye on them” Jin decides.
“Okay, that’s settled. Everyone, we’ll open the door, gather our things and we’re running” Namjoon says.
“I bet Yoongi is wishing he stayed in the van right now” Jin teases to which Yoongi just scrunches up his small nose. He wasn’t much of a fan of running and neither were you, but you both would have to for now.
“Stay safe, all of you” Taehyung wishes, coming in for a hug. You hug him back and try not to let negative thoughts go over your mind.
“I better hear the motor of the jeep coming soon, okay?” Hoseok asks, obviously nervous for you all.
“We’ll be right back” you promise again, rubbing his arm up and down before leaving.
Jimin holds your hand again, not wanting to let you go, but giving up once you move out of reach. Jin opens the door for all of you to step out and kisses the top of your head before you descend from the van.
You grab your backpack and it’s on.
All of you run towards the cabin, staying close to one another and away from the edges of the woods where there was no light. It was like any shadow could be someone, hiding, ready to strike. But there were four of you. People used to say there is strength in numbers. Hopefully it wouldn’t come to testing that.
The cabin was not particularly far, but in the context of the situation you were in, it felt like a continent away. The seven hundred feet distance took much too long for comfort, with the night sky darkening with each step. The running footsteps of the four of you were so loud you couldn’t tell if someone was following you. You just kept going, trying not to slow down the group with your poor running speed, especially with Jungkook staying right behind you.
When the cabin was just a few feet away, when you struggled to get the keys out of your pants’ pockets while you ran, that’s when you all heard it. A faint noise of glass being broken. And screams.
“Oh my God, oh my God…” you whisper with a trembling voice.
All of you stopped in your tracks as you look back at where the screams were coming from. From the van. Something happened in the van.
“Fuck! Jungkook, stay with Y/N and get to the cabin! Find that key and meet us by the van, we have to go back and help them” Namjoon orders in an almost shouting command, those dark and bushy eyebrows pulled so closely together in apprehension and fear that they almost meet at the bridge of his nose. He was trying to remain brave, but he was just as scared as you all were.
“N-No! I need to go to! We need to help them!” you refuse, already trying to walk back to the van, but Jungkook’s arms come around your shoulders and he keeps you pressed to him while you struggled.
“Focus, Y/N! Me and Yoongi are going back, you two go get the car. NOW!”
They were already running back as he speaks, decision already made despite your aching heart. The youngest members pulls you along with him to the cabin, even as your head remains looking back, heart at your throat and praying to any God out there that they were all fine. That everything would be all fine.
“C’mon, Y/N… I’m sorry but we need to get the car and fast.” Jungkook presses, one hand around your back keeping you running forward to the cabin.
“T-They are okay, r-right?” you force yourself to speak despite the lump on your throat. “They can’t b-be… be hurt…”
Your voice ends up dying in your mouth as he looks away with clenched jaws, not able to give you the response you wanted. Not having a response to give, probably being just as terrified as you were. All of his hyungs were back there in danger, relying on him and you to go and get them out. With that in mind, you force yourself to focus on your tasks again.
You try the first key on the lock and it doesn’t fit. Hands shaking, you try the second key. It goes in. You turn it on the lock and a nervous and relieving chuckle escapes you as the mechanism of the latch opens.
“Okay, okay!” you utter as you open the door and get in.
“Right, search for the key of the jeep! Quick!”
Letting go of him, you start searching the small cabin. Every drawer, cabinet, even under the rug gets searched. The plan was cemented around finding this key and getting to the jeep. The key had to be here, it just had to be. You went into the bathroom, even rummaging through the med kits in hopes it was somehow lost in there. It came to you then, that you still had the walkie talkie with you in the bag.
“Kook! I’ll try to ask Taffy on the radio again” you yell out to him, already taking the walkie out of your bag. “Taffy, can you hear me? Taffy, are you there?”
There’s only static. And silence.
The back of your neck breaks into goosebumps. It was silent. The cabin had gone absolutely dead silent. Not a single step, not a single breath, not a single movement was heard.
“Kook?” You step out of the bathroom slowly, wide restless eyes searching around the hallway and peering into the bedroom next to the restroom. Much to your terror, no one’s there. “… J-Jungkook?”
No one answers. You voice cracks as you call for him when walking into the dark living room, tears of distress gathering at your eyes that strained to see with only the moonlight coming in through the windows. The white light bounced off the furniture, the sofa and cabinets and the table. But no Jungkook. There was no one at the cabin. You were suddenly all alone.
“Oh no… oh no…” you whisper into the darkness, completely frozen as you don’t know what to do anymore.
Your body crumbles beneath you and you feel at a complete lost. So, you just do what you’ve been avoiding all this time: you break down and cry. It starts in small sobs but soon you are drenching your hands as they hide your face, crying your heart out.
“CODE RED! CODE RED!”
It all happens so fast you can barely keep up. Eight figures jump out from behind the large sofa on the other side of the room, a loud bang releases a bunch of confetti suddenly into the hair and someone crunches down in front of you with a hand on your shoulder. Through your tears, it takes you a while to realize it’s Jungkook.
“W-What?” is all you manage to say as you sob.
“Damn it, guys! I told you this would make her cry!” a voice you recognized too well says. It was Taffy, standing among the boys with a tray of food in her hand.
“Hey, Y/N, it’s okay, you’re okay” Jimin, who came to squat down next to Jungkook and took your hand into his, says in a calming sweet voice.
“But… the van and the screams…” you whisper back, your brain trying to make sense of the mess you found yourself in.
“Sorry, sunshine! We didn’t mean to scare you this much!” Hoseok apologizes. “Someone dropped a glass cup while we waited and it scared me, so I may have screamed a bit too loud.”
Hoseok shoots a look at Jimin, who whispers another ‘sorry’ to you. Your eyes wonder around all of them and you find yourself staring blankly at Jin, who just shrugs.
“Happy Halloween?” he expresses.
“We may have gone a bit overboard. But we were also trying to prove a point! We agreed to not get each other gifts anymore and you went ahead and planned all of this for us. So, we planned something for you too” Namjoon starts explaining.
“We definitely over did it. She’s crying, hyung!” Taehyung points out, with a guilty expression.
“Yeah, we’re not the best at coming up with a plan at the last minute like this. All of this was just supposed to spook her, not terrify Y/N like this. And there should have been a lot less running!” Yoongi complains.
That brings a chuckle from everyone except you, as you are still processing it all.
“S-So… So, this was all fake? To scare me for Halloween?” you sum up their explanation the best your jumbled brain could.
The guys and your friend all share a look, before answering you in unison.
“Yes.”
Slowly, you stand up, your bulky legs no longer shaking, eyes closed as you inhale deeply and exhale soundly. When you open your eyes again, there are eight pair of worried ones staring at you. And you only had one thing to say.
“I hate all of your stupid faces!”
It’s a lie and they all know it. To apologize and earn your forgiveness, you are suddenly pulled into a group hug by the boys while your friend turns on the lights of the cabin and prepares the fireplace.
You spend the rest of the Halloween night hearing all about their malicious plan, the preparations and outrageous ideas they came up with before settling on this one. You never thought you would be grateful to only have gone through this situation until you heard some of their ‘spookier’ concepts they had. And, although you wouldn’t admit it to them, this would be the Halloween you would tell everyone about until your old years to come. It would be the most memorable Halloween of your life.
Pitch Pearl  ATUS AU- Part 2
so where we last left off, danny has been experiencing some weird stuff. it all comes to a point when he finds a DP symbol drawn onto his fogged-up mirror.
at this point, danny has to come to terms with what this all means. he has told nobody about his experiences in the ghost zone, let alone explain the significance of the cursed symbol, made by phantom as a way to ‘tease’ him about their unity and relationship. the royal insignia is a crown lit aflame with green fire. nobody in the human realm should know about DP. the only logical and possible answer is phantom is back.
he starts panicking
but days go by, then a few weeks and no ghosts have shown up. none at all.
sometimes he finds little trinkets on his desk or under his pillow or other little places where he would notice them. he’d get a few nightmares here and there as well. nothing big though. he can almost pretend like it isn’t happening, like phantom isn’t here at all.
but then at lunch, the lights flicker off and a glowing green fog slowly rolls in from the walls. the students watch in quiet horror as is solidifies into a misty DP symbol. danny throat closes up and he is paralyzed. a haunting whisper carried into everyone’s ears.
“The Tale of the Ghost King”
they sit blankly as the voice tells a story, the fog twisting and condensing into vague shapes like a storybook.
the king used to be a small ghost, it says, a small ghost that just wanted the best for his people. he freed them from the tyranny of the old king and promised them that no longer would they ever have to be treated like the lowest class. he uplifted them higher than they could imagine. it tells about the king finding a new realm, a new place to explore, and how cruel the people who lived there were, treating them like monsters and beasts. the king decided to find an ambassador to show the humans the ghosts’ true kindness. to show the humans just how stupid and foolish they are. the king slowly realized that as long as the desire to return home persisted, the human would never see the truth, and with a heavy heart concluded for the sake of education, people needed to die. the human was too blind and naive to appreciate his people’s sacrifice and tossed the poor king’s hospitality and love in his face, sealing the gateway so that they could never meet again. it was so silly to think the king would never find another way. they have a new entrance now. this time, the king’s dear gullible human would never escape.
as the mist fades and whispers and gasps break out around the cafeteria, people slowly putting together the story that danny never told, danny shakes with fear and anger at the patronizing and misleading way his fears were brought to light. he wants to scream and cry and hide away and as people begin asking for answers from him, he taps into a power he never wanted to feel again and vanishes.
he isn’t seen for weeks on end, held up in his room and only leaving when the coast is clear. the other fentons stop trying to catch him out of his room because he knows when they are there and they rather make sure he stays alive and doesn’t starve himself. sam and tucker make sure to keep him informed about the school by leaving his homework and copied notes at the door and setting down by it, just gossiping. they don’t know if he is listening or not but the homework and notes are always gone when they come back the next day so they have hope.
danny focuses on trying to locate the portal by meditating and practicing his magic again. his back up plan to escape amity and leave town if he gets short on time. the ghosts can’t drift too far from the portal. he will be safe if he leaves, but it would be better if he doesn’t have to.
the trinkets and gifts continue showing up and danny stores them out of sight so he doesn’t have to look at him. each one gets progressively more and more sentimental and personal until one day as he is making his bed, he catches sight of a glinting object he never wanted to see again.
the circlet.
bile rises to his throat and he rushes out to the bathroom, emptying his guts into the toilet. the sound alerts jazz, who peeks in and finds him sobbing over the toilet seat. she kneels downn by him, gently rubbbing his back. glancing over she spies their parent watching in concern from the doorway. their mom gets him water and their dad gets him some fudge to help clean the taste out. when danny comes back to reality he looks at them and starts crying all over again, basking in the comfort of his family. they expect him to lock himself away again when he has calmed down, but instead he site there for a second before telling them they need to talk.
in the living room, danny explains in with as much detail he can handle about what happened when he was taken away into the ghost zone. he tries to communicate how he didn’t like it and he really didn’t want to do any of it, like they would shun him if he didn’t. he confesses to the powers and promsises that he is still human and he isn’t a ghost. finally he opens up about what’s happening now and what he needs to do if they want to avoid the apocalypse. he tells them that if he cant find the portal, he will need to flee and hope that phantom doesn’t change targets.
they listen quietly and reassuringly up until that moment before completely vetoing that idea. danny is not leaving. this is his home and nobody is going to take that away from him. they tell him that its best if he starts opening up more about what he knows so they can actually help him. danny is hesistant, but agrees.
the day he returns to school, an assembly is held for him to explain the events of the infamous lunch period and what it all meant. students listen in fear and rage as he talks. by the end some are terrified that they will die, some are yelling to sacrifice danny for the protectionn of the town, and some are standing their ground and demanding war. danny barely manages to calm them down again, promising that everything can ba avoided as long as they just find out where the new portal is and close it down.
going back to vladdy bo baddy, he finally comes back to town and has  managed to power himself up. he is ready to go flirt with maddie and kill jack, however, when he goes to visit them, he senses a lot of ectoenergy radaiting from the house, more than he would expect without the presence of the portal. vlad is very clueless about the current events and doesn’t really even know much about what went down freshman year. he uses this visit as a way to learn a bit more about the current affairs and greets the family, complimenting maddie, giving a backhanded compliment to jack, kissing up to jazz, and-
he freezes when he looks at danny because there is a lot of ecto energy raidaiting off of him and it but scares him a small bit and excites him. potentially another half, he thinks. after a few hours of small talk, he excuses himself as its getting late and invites them over
maddie is hesistant and tries to find an excuse not to go when danny happily accepts vlads proposal. she reads in between the lines and takes danny’s lead on this. if he thinks going to vlad’s mansion will be beneficial, then its best to trust him.
a few days later, they welcome themselves at vlad’s house and danny tries sensing for the portal. after locating the rift he excuses himself to go use the bathroom and starts trying to track it down. his senses say its behind a wall, but he can’t find the door. he starts messing around with some of the books of bookself that seemed peculiar before quiet footsteps catch his attention. turns out its just a cat.
the cat meows at him and guides him over a bit before pawing at him to pick it up. once lifted, it swipes ato some of the books causing some to fall but one stops mid tilt and a door opens to a hidden lab.
in it, is the portal. danny immediately starts preparing the concentration needed to seal it up. the last time he did it, it was instinctual and he didn’t have a clear grasp on what exactly he did. he needs to fiddle around a bit before he can do it. unfortunately, hologram maddie senses someone in the lab and scans them, sending an alert to vlad about an intruder. vlad rushes off to fight them off half expecting it to be another weak ghost crawling through, but instead sees danny concentrating on destroying the portal. he yells at him, causing danny to fire prematurely and only somewhat seal the portal, but vlad launches into combat before he can continue building up strenght.
vlad goes on a tirade about how clueless he mist be about himself and how halfas work if he thought that was a good idea and explains the importance of having a portal fueling you as a halfa while attacking and shooing away danny who is hellbent on destroying the portal. midway through he transforms when he notices danny isn’t catching onto what he is talking about and when danny still shows confusion, balks. the misunderstanding allows danny a slight moment to build up more energy while engaging vlad in a standstill about what he is and how danny is different. he doesn’t expand to much on it, just clarifying that he indeed is a live and not a halfa or whatever it is. vlad notices danny is about to fire again at the portal and redirect at the last second, restarting the fighting again. thoughout the fight he continues trying to convince danny that he is mostly likely dead and he should be able to transform but none of what he is saying is getting through to danny and its getting frustrating at this point.
the turning point hits when the fenton’s stumble into the lab after hunting down the two missing people across the entire mansion. their arrival, mainly maddie’s, throws off vlad long enough for danny to finally seal up the portal and for the fentons to rip vlad a new for the complete indangerment he brought upon them. luckily the portal is sealed and they are safe now.
everything is quiet for about a month.
one peaceful month of no paranoia, no nightmares, not trinkets.
then danny has a dream, more like a nightmare, about waking up in a too large bed, cold and the sickeningly familiar weight of the circlet on his head. the room is the one that haunted his nightmares for the rest of freshman year and the first few weeks of sophmore. he slowly pulls off the covers, he is dressed in too fancy night garb that he never wanted to wear, and tip toes over to the mirror hanging over the dresser.
his skin is sickly pale and his eyes are glowing a bright icy blue. the circlet is there, heavy and silver with sparkling emerald gems and its so cold andhe jsut stares at himself in the mirror, unfamiliar yet familiar and so very afraid.
he is so out off it he doesn’t notice another figure creeping up behind him until cold, tight arms lock him into place. there is a low amused chuckle and the figure leans up to his ear and whispers the name he tried so hard to forget.
“Starlight~”
“Did you really think that was the end? That I wouldn’t have anticipated you were going to seal up the new portal? You are still so silly.”
danny freezes and tries to question him btu no sound will come out. he can’t talk.
“You know, at first there weren’t any more portals. I was determined after the new rift formed to rush through and drag you back before finishing where I left off. However, unlike you, I think ahead. I decided to take my time with it. To guarantee no repeats. You were planning to run away to where I couldn’t reach you if I dared take a step too far and that was out of the question. What would I have done without you, Starlight? DId you ever take a moment to think about me.”
nails dug into his skin and his voice hitched.
“Luckily I thought about you. One of us has to put in effort into this relationship. I came up with something genius. I asked myself, why not tear more rifts? Once a cut was made, it was easy to make more from it. Why not fill you entire realm up with them, so that any place could be accessed with just a hint of energy? It took me so long, I was almost ready to stop halfway, but I have so much patience when it comes to you. Now I’m finished and there is not place on your stupid little earth that I can’t find you.”
danny’s blood froze from the cold and the fear. phantom only laughed and tightened his grip before pushing away. as consciousness slowly faded in, he heard slight whispers of phantoms last words.
“I’ll see you soon Starlight. You’ll come running back into my arms soon enough.”
he woke up in a cold sweat, jazz standing above him with a grim look.
“Sam and Tucker have gone missing.
The morning sun peaked through the windows of the cabin, ice blue eyes opening and looking outside, seeing that it was daytime. Xaviera woke up, her small form still in Andrei's arms. Slowly, she looked up, her lips pulled into a smile at how peaceful he looked when he was sleeping. It was a sight she cherished.
Carefully, she moved from his arms, walking to the kitchen to make some tea. After it was done, she filled two cups, one for her and one for the Russian for when he will wake up. She took her mug and stealthy, she walked outside the cabin on the front porch, her bare feet meeting the cold hardwood, but she never was bothered by the harsh coldness. Her eyes looked over the scenario, such a simple life, just nature and what it has to offer. She closed her eyes and basked into the soft cold breeze of the morning.
She was still in Andrei's black long sleeve and just her underwear. The way the wind was biting her skin made her feel like a cat basking into the sun. It felt right.
Through the cold, she felt heat coming from behind her, and one strong arm wrapped around her waist, her lips involuntarily pulled into a smile.
"Baby, it's cold out here, you should come inside..." he whispered, his voice still rough and harsh from just waking up.
She felt his lips press against her crown.
"I don't want my little kitten freezing her tail off." he told her, her heart instantly awake in a full-on beat and she forgot that the temperature outside was almost to freezing if not below.
The way he spoke to her, she never felt so cared for and protected, by a man who could easily kill, a beast that could rip someone's heart like it's nothing. She felt special.
She felt her cheeks heat up and she moved closer to his body.
"Mmmm.... I just love the cold breeze in the morning. Freshen's me up." she replied, taking one of his hands and kissing his knuckles.
"How did you slept, Wolfy?" she asked, looking over her shoulder up at him.
Andrei smirks down at her, pulling her as close as he can, savoring these moments. At her question, he moves his head back and forth, cracking his neck.
"Couches aren't good for necks..." he laughs.
"But you somehow always manage to make me oversleep, so it wasn't too bad." he says, leaning down and kissing her slowly. She kissed back, cherishing every second of his lips against hers like they were made for each other. He pulled away, looking her over.
"How about you, little snow leopard?" he asked and she giggled at his nickname for her, a grin on her face, ice blue eyes sparkling with adoration; the fire inside her ribcage sparking every time.
"Mmm me? Well.... I slept like a baby in your arms... You kept me so warm." she answered, turning around and nuzzling her nose into his neck.
She loved to be close to him; his scent, his power, his caring nature although camouflaged by a brutal and sharp exterior. She never felt so content with someone. They stayed like that, until...
"Well, I have a long hike out of here so... I, uh.... I better start to pack." he broke the silence, pulling away coldly.
Xaviera felt a bitter taste forming in the back of her throat, but she quickly swallowed it down, masking it with an understanding nod as he entered back the cottage. She sipped on her tea, looking at the snow-coated wildness surrounding them.
Of course, all good moments have to end at some point. She sighed, finishing her tea and marching back inside to pack her own things. She was setting her maps neatly when she heard a loud bang coming from upstairs and some Russian curses following.
The white-haired woman gulped down, feeling her chest constrict, but she pushed the feeling away roughly. She knew how combusting the Russian was and at the moment she felt too vulnerable. Her eyes widened when Andrei came downstairs, throwing his bags loudly at the door. He walked over to her, holding her hip and stroking her hair.
Xaviera's breath hitched at his touch but she quickly relaxed, loving the close intimacy. She looked up at him from under her eyelashes.
"Thank you... for everything." she whispered, resting her hand on his chest, feeling his heartbeat.
Closing her eyes, she leaned in, pressing her lips gently against his own. He closed his eyes, kissing her back as if it was the last kiss he could ever give, deepening it as his hand ran through her white hair and their tongues danced together. She gasped, kissing him back, her hands fisting his shirt, afraid that if she let go, he will vanish.
He pulled away after a few minutes, resting his forehead against hers, stroking her cheek.
"No... thank you, Xaviera." he whispered, not letting her go and staring into her eyes and she found herself lost in them; eyes that have seen so many horrors, eyes that held danger, but also protection.
"Wil-... could you ever..." he started to say, something inside the woman wanting to claw out, like an excited animal.
He inhaled deeply, shaking his head slightly, pulling away, and smiling.
"Nevermind... my shirt looks good on you, baby girl." he smirked, his cocky demeanor back in place and the feline inside her stopped her excited jumping.
"Oh.... Oh! Y-Yeah...Ummm... D-Do you want it back?" she quickly asked, shuttering over her words and feelings her cheeks heat up.
She was dreaming way too much. Of course, this was just an adventure and nothing more.
'He won't propose to you, idiot! Stop dreaming, little girl!' she told herself.
Andrei smiled down at her, running his hands on her arms.
"No, no... you keep it... it's warm." then his eyes averted to the tooth wolf hanging around her neck and the bitemark that was going to leave a permanent scar.
"Now you have three gifts from me, myshka." his whispered, his large inked hand cupping her jaw and placing the thumb gently around the healing black eye she had gotten from the now dead man.
"It's the least I could give you."
His words only fuelled the fire that was growing inside her, inside her heart, a fire that wanted to get out and let loose, words that wanted to leave her lips but she was tongued tied.
She wanted so badly to stay with him, but the prospect of him laughing at such a silly request made her think twice; she didn't want to make a fool out of herself.
"Thanks for saving me...."
Her eyes looked intently into his.
"Thank you Xaviera.... You're so beautiful... so strong... don't let anyone tame you, kitten."
The fire inside her was ready to combust, almost desperately so. His words made her feel like a little girl; so vulnerable and ready to break.... so unlike her.
'Just go with him, if that's what you want.'
'No! Don't ask him that! He will think you are stupid, clingy, and desperate.'
It was an internal battle. She didn't want to embarrass herself and make the situation horrible.
"T-Thank you for these words, Wolfy. I will sure remember them for the rest of my life." she whispered, pressing her lips against the wolf's tooth in her hand, then leaning her forehead against his chest, saving as many seconds with him as possible.
He held her close, savoring the moment as much as her, then he pulled away, cupping her jaw.
"Thank you." he whispered and kissed her lips.
She closed her eyes, basking into the kiss, their last kiss.
"Goodbye Xaviera." the soft blues turned cold as he let her go and turned away, pulling on his jacket and vest, grabbing his bag, he turned towards her one last time, flashing his typical smirk.
"Goodbye beautiful." with that the wolf walked out into the snow, with each step disappearing in the distance, leaving the snow leopard standing on the front porch, her eyes trying to remember each detail that made the man that just left.
They departed, just like two animals that mated and basked in each other's affection, taking different paths to their own lives as the mating season ended.
When a cold breeze hit her bare legs that's when she was cold and quickly moved back inside, continuing to pack her things, the bitter feeling inside her throat persisting and before she knew it a tear fell down on her compass.
She blinked. She was crying.
The woman wiped her eyes with the back of her hand, trying to get rid of the signs of her sorrow; she was alone, again.
She didn't mind being alone, but now? After everything that happened, the loneliness seemed like a venomous bite of a snake, the venom slowly flowing her bloodstream until it got to her heart.
Right now, Xaviera would rather freeze to death, fight a Grizzly than have to under this bitter feeling. She hated the horrible taste it gave her.
She huffed, closing her eyes and trying to push everything in the back of her mind, starting to gather her stuff faster so she doesn't have to stay here longer because every corner reminded her of these amazing days she spent with the Russian; amazing days that came to an end.
Walking upstairs to the bedroom to get her last things, her gaze stopped on the bed, tangled bedsheets with so many memories, memories that she will never be able to forget.
She quickly dressed and got her things, walking downstairs she put her winter jacket on and her fluffy winter boots, strapping her sniper rifle on her back along with her big backpack, she opened the door to the cabin. Looking over her shoulder one last time, she had to bite her tongue to stop herself from crying more. She couldn't be vulnerable now, not when she was alone.
The freezing weather never bothered her, but now she was cold, on the inside as she marched through the snow, following the destination to the closest village, a plane would be there to take her home. Her mission was over.
After three hours of walking, she finally reached her destination, getting on the plane. She made herself comfortable and her eyes drifted out the window, seeing the snowy mountains. She bites her lower lip, feeling like she was leaving her wild heart here.
The only thing that she gathered were blissful memories that felt more like a very lucid dream. She closed her eyes, letting sleep take over her, her small hand clenching the wolf tooth around her neck.
After 10 months.......
The African sun was as cruel as the freezing wind of Himalaya, but the white-haired zoologist was used to both harsh environments, like an animal adapting its body temperature to the one outside.
Xaviera had spent the last 10 months traveling, anywhere from Asia to America to Africa, anything to occupy her mind. She did was she always did best; studying, doing research, killing poachers, enjoying the free wildlife, but something always missed.
She knew what it was missing or better said, who was missing. She tried to forget after getting back home to America, but she couldn't. She always woke up from frightful nightmares, hoping for a certain someone to held her in their arms, but all she saw was an empty side of the bed; cold and empty.
Endless nights of no sleep, clutching the pillow in her arms, hoping that she wouldn't have nightmares.
She tried to remember what some of her female colleagues in college said about relationships.
'Oh, honey..... You will forget your first at some point. No reason to cry over a dick.'
Xaviera wished to shot her past colleague in the head for these words because she simply couldn't forget. Everything reminded her of him; the wildness, the danger that lurked there, the power that the forest and wildlife held.
She was currently in Africa, laying down on the front porch of a cottage of an elderly couple that invited her to stay over for her researches here. It was afternoon and her day off to relax after two weeks of non-stop work. She was looking at the sky, listening to the music nature offered her.
She was like feline basking into the setting sun, her fingers playing with a piece of her long white hair, millions of thoughts running through her mind.
'When you get older, your wild heart will live for younger days, think of me if ever you're afraid.' That's what her father used to tell her and she really wondered what her father would do now.
He always knew how to solve problems, always knew what to do. She missed him so much.....missed him as much as she missed.....
She closed her eyes, trying to forget his name, to push everything back. Opening old wounds was much more painful than creating new ones.
The words of one of her zoology colleagues hit her mind.
'Ughhhh girl..... Try to find someone else. Start anew.'
The thought of someone else touching her? That simply repulsed Xaviera. She rather fights a lion than let a different man touch her. NO WAY.
Xaviera never understood back in college why some girls were crying over their break-ups, but now she knew.
"My child... You seem to plagued by some sorrowful thoughts." an elderly feminine voice broke her thoughts, blue eyes looking at the old woman as she brought Xaviera a bowl of fruits.
"I don't know... How do you know where home is when you travel all over the world?" Xaviera asked, looking at the sunset, her hand subconsciously played with the wolf tooth around her neck.
The elderly woman's eyes averted from Xaviera to the necklace she was playing with.
"That's a wolf tooth.... It represents wild symbols, dignity, and perseverance, courage, and strength." the woman began to speak and that piqued Xaviera's interest.
"The Wolf symbol will give you clarity, wisdom, and self-confidence." the words hit Xaviera straight in the heart.
Her heart was like an Eagle, always ready to take flight and reach higher limits.
Just like a coincidence, in the distance, an African fish eagle flew across the sky, take the position on a tree close to the cottage, ice blue eyes looking at the majestic bird.
'These ones aren't supposed to be in this part of Africa.' Xaviera thought with furrowed brows.
"You know, my child... When an eagle appears, you are on notice to be courageous and stretch your limits. Do not accept the status quo, but rather reach higher and become more than you believe you are capable of. Look at things from a new, higher perspective, be patient with the present; know that the future holds possibilities that you may not yet be able to see. You are about to take a flight." the woman spoke, a smile forming on her wrinkled face as she gazed at the eagle.
Each word made Xaviera be more and more confused, not because she didn't understand what the old woman meant, but rather because the snow leopard didn't know what to do. Take flight where?
"What should I do?" the young woman asked, and the old lady just smiled her way.
"Follow your heart." That was all the old woman said before she went inside, taking a glance as the eagle took flight.
'Follow my heart?' Xaviera thought, laying back down and glancing at the African sunset, closing her eyes and imaging certain rough fingertips brushing her thigh, where the grizzly scars were.
She remembers when she was a child and watched the African sunset with her father.
'One day you'll leave this world behind. So, live a life you will remember.' her father told her, remembering his smile, his heart as wild as hers.
Her eyes opened as she heard a growl in the distance, ice-blue eyes meeting light yellow with black spots, the leopards gaze on her, a female one.
Xaviera hasn't seen one for so long, it was different from the snow ones, with shorter fur. The female feline turned her gaze as a deeper growl resounded, a male leopard stalking towards her side, licking her fur in an affectionate way.
The leopard couple turned their backs to the young white-haired woman, stalking together at the sunset, the scenario making Xaviera's heart itch for something, a certain someone.
Her eyes drift up, seeing the eagle fly above the cottage.
'Go venture far beyond the shores, don't forsake this life of yours. I'll guide you home no matter where you are.' her father's words echoed deep inside her mind, the eagle's gaze meeting hers.
She swallowed down, her heartbeat getting stronger.
'Just follow your heart, child.'
She missed a certain coldness, a familiar coldness that kept her warm from the inside.
'The fire you have is strong...don't ever let anyone take that from you.' These words, his words. It made her want to spread her wings and take flight..... where her heart tells her to go.
She took a white star apple, taking a bite, savoring the ripe and sweet flavor, closing her eyes.
She knew where her heart was telling her to go.
She needed to catch a plane to a certain location... Somewhere she's never been before.
A smile crossed her lips; a smile that hasn't crossed her face since 10 months.
