Thoughts on jily?

okay i spoke about this a bit on tt today, below the cut (tw: opinions)

i,,, i'm not a fan.

LIKE I AM !!! i like jily i just,,, i'm too picky and i dislike a lot of it. like canonically he showed off in front of lily yeah, but i HATE the general consensus of him asking her out SO much for YEARS until she says yes. i just hate that trope. i don't find it cute i find it creepy.

i need them to be more complex !!! because they have complexity !!!

i need lily to have complex morals - i need it to be in depth about the fact that, yes, she ends up on the light side and she is fundamentally a good person, but she was friends with snape even when he started going down the wrong path, because she loved him. because he was her first friend. very much a "he hasn't done anything to me" mentality (esp considered she drops him after the slur is said).

i need her complex home life !!! i need to see how difficult it is growing up with people who dont understand you and are scared of the fact they dont. i need her and petunia. i need the angst that comes with being a freak to your family and the ONE person you've met who gets it, who lives in your town and teaches you about your world, joins a CULT AGAINST YOU!?

i need more than "but hes a popular jock and i'm a nerd". i need more than "huh maybe he isn't so bad" - i need them to have tough conversations !!! i need lily to call james out for how he treated her best friend (because yes hes a shithead but SHE didnt think so for so long, and we know how powerful lilys love is, it ended the war) and i need james to call her out for it !! (it's either choices or just lovers, i'm 99% sure its JL, that has a scene where james calls her out and is like "he might not have done anything to you but hes still awful" and i was like YES!!! THIS IS WHAT I WANT!!!)

and so much more but these are the main things.

i tend to read background jily because it's less developed and im okay with that!!! they're meant to be because it's background, but i rarely read jily centric because i just dislike how it's portrayed

although tbf, i don't often go looking for jily fics that that reason and i got some recs in the comments of that tiktok so i'll be reading some of those this month !!!

TO SUMMARISE: i love their potential and i think they could be so cute. i love them in theory but in practice i'm still very hesitant and prefer the complexity that i see in other ships

sometimes i read fics w the breaking up and making up tag and its like. in theory im so down for it i love the drama, but in practice i think i might just be kind of a bitch but 99% of the time im like. wtf. how could you just get back together after that. if someone said that to ME i would NEVER kiss them again let alone two seconds after they manage a shitty apology. if someone did that to me i would dump their ass for GOOD. fuck that guy! at least tell him "actually i need some time to think about it" when he comes back grovelling. bruh. where are your STANDARDS.

also I guess this is just an observation

but what is it with some pixel art games being so low contrast... I was finally going to give in and try out a farming sim lots of ppl enjoy despite the portrait art being not entirely to my tastes and then the pixels and environment are sooooo low contrast it made me change my mind again....like you do not have to be scared of dark colors and borders. Outlines. Smile.

Thoughts on Dalv x Starlo

Corn yaoi isn't really my thing. Part of it is because they've only interacted once, but we can speculate about their future interactions, so it all depends on how the person sees their dynamic.

It's not the differences in personality that are a problem either (it can go either way, again, it's all subjective).

The issue I see are: 1) different climates and locations, and 2) completely different lifestyles.

Dalv would have to move to Wild East, but I don't think he'd be able to adjust to the Ff's goofy antics. WE is a tourist destination and idk, honestly I don't think the vampire man would fit well there. He needs his children's books and his solitude (even tho he's becoming more social). The high temperatures would also be a problem

If Star went to live with him in Snowdin, even bigger problem. He couldn't abandon Ceroba, the group, or his role as an entertainer (his biggest dream), or even his family, which lives nearby. Also, the low temperatures aren't for him. Poor guy would freeze; he's cut out for deserts

El Bailador on the other hand lives in the Dunes + is deeply passionate about something just like Star is so there would be no "You're acting too crazy please calm down" + I feel like Bail would be completely supportive and understanding and open with his emotions (unlike Ceroba who doesn't understand the amount of dedication Star has). I'm not crazy for the Dancing Stars ship, but to me it makes sense in every way.

I'm not sure what it would be like with Dalv since there's been only 1 interaction, but if they can work out their differences personality-wise and if their love languages match, I see the potential 100%. It's the more "practical" side of the relationship that makes me doubt it would work out, though. Only if it's long distance, imo. Who knows, maybe they'd both be ok with that. This is a hc for Star, but I think long distance isn't his thing. Dalv would be fine with it.

ngl, didn't play EA but I'm poking around datamined dialogue from an EA version- I find it very inchresting, that seemingly, they definitely turned down the dream guardian's like horniness and romantic interest. Like it seems to be implied that at one point the dream guardian like- tries to kiss you during the first encounter, like lots of notes about cheek caress, thigh touching, and leaving you with a smooch souvenir. And then in the morning you get a pretty good idea of who everyone saw (Karlach didn't have a file for it that I saw and Shadowheart's was vague, beyond- "someone she is attracted to") and Gale is funnily enough seems (from my searching) to be the only one who admits that... yeah, he smooched them...

And like, totally get why they turned that down for final release, but god if that was still the case- I would have lowkey tried not to laugh my ass off when who the dream guardian is was revealed and ask Gale how he liked the taste of squid mouth, was it worth it, bud?

i have a lot of thoughts about pf fanfics so uhh sorry if this gets long and rant-y im just very opinionated #peaceandlove

idk if it's unpopular but a good chunk of the ones in ao3 are umm... not exactly the level of writing im used to compared to some my other fandoms. to put it nicely. (mainly talking about the slash fics) there are okay ones, but the best fic i read in ao3 was essentially a gen fic.. so... Yeah. anyway i've read a lot of good ones in livejournal but trying to navigate that site was like using a metal detector to find treasure and it's either i get a gold coin or some random piece of metal

also in the ao3 sphere i think that we need more fics about the guys being in messy unlabeled situationships rather than anything about them being loving boyfriends to each other (exceptions may apply in moderation). i don't think these guys have the emotional intelligence to say "i love you" to each other in a way that feels like they're in a normal romantic relationship do you get what i'm saying?

anyway that's all what i've thought of for now thank u for sending me this ask 🫶
