you can think whatever you want about lottie's death but you can't deny that it's not another example of how the show treats their woc. like, explain to me what has happened to taissa's character and why her entire story has been whittled down to nothing but her white ex gf. explain to me where the hell simone and sammy have gone meanwhile callie gets upped to a series regular. this has been a problem that i have been talking about since last season was literally airing. taissa's literal wife and son reduced to a single phone call in the first episode and the career that was her entire driving force in s1 to a throwaway line.

it doesn't make sense and it's also fucking boring. taivan is literally my favorite pairing and they're afraid to do anything interesting with them. tai has no plot outside of van and van has no plot outside of tai. it took one episode for them to get back together. that's so BORING. and yes marking people for murder is boring when we could have gotten taissa clinging to her carefully constructed perfect life by her fingernails. you could argue part of that is because i'm sure sammy's actor has grown up considerably, but simone? and this show looooves recasting their minor characters, they really couldn't have just recast him? be so serious.

but jeff needs to donate shit to goodwill and randy needs to doordash on his scooter, right? we need to throw away characters who have been there since season one to make room for more white characters, right?

Something that really got me this episode is how Ochako responded when Himiko finally opened up to her.

Himiko says she falls in love easily, because everyone has beautiful blood running inside of them, and Ochako hums, because she's listening. Himiko says she was told not to smile, that she was jealous, and Ochako hums, shakier this time, because she's listening. Himiko tells her about the boy she liked, about her fear of being seen as something inhuman, about how she joined the League of Villains so she could live unapologetically as herself, and Ochako reaches out to her. Brushes the darkness away. Tells her she has a wonderful smile.

And then we get the quintessential Togachako scene and it hits so hard. And a lot of that is because of the buildup - because of Ochako's desperate need to reach out, to touch, to listen (and, god, the way her voice breaks when she begs Himiko to talk to her), because of the catharsis when Himiko finally opens up, how soft her voice gets, how softly Ochako responds to her. I don't even know where I'm going with this. I'm just in awe. This episode ripped me apart.

And the stark contrast between Ochako and the monsters in Himiko's past. The lack of judgement. The way she embraces her, comforts her, understands her, despite everything. She really does touch the sadness inside of her, feels for her like no one else has. Honestly calls her beautiful, calls her cute, because, to Ochako, Himiko really is the cutest girl in the whole world.

I don't know how to end this post. I'm just. Feelings.

I love everything about this scene.

From their long, silent walk palpable with warm afterglow, to Helly's soft question that was tinged with insecurity, to Mark's quick and unhesitating affirmation, his hand on her hair, her soft, heart eyes on him. Even the way she says, "No... you are" is so tender. I've never heard Helly speak this softly and lovingly before. Ahhhh I love love.

Made myself tear up thinking about Girl Dad Sylus. He'd give his little girls the unconditional love he never had growing up, and (hopefully) in the process heal his inner child 🥹

And additionally...

Sylus' kids will be the first people in his life that'll love him from the very start. Everyone else has at some point wanted to hurt, use, or kill him. Or hated his guts/been disgusted by him 💔 (that part in the main story still wrecks me, his expression is so heartrending, you can so plainly see the devastation on his face. I genuinely think he cried afterwards, when he vanished for a bit. And now I am crying too from thinking about it 💔💔)

But his children will not once in their lives view him with fear, or disgust, or ill intent. Instead, they'll look at him with stars in their eyes from the very moment they begin to be aware of and recognize their surroundings.

Like everyone else, their little hearts will start pounding faster at the mere sight or sound of him. However, not out of terror, but elation, and the purest form of love, their short legs toddling towards him as fast as they can, chubby arms eagerly reaching for him. Not to do him harm, but to give and receive affection. A gesture which Sylus will always reciprocate without a second's hesitation, his strong powerful arms enveloping his babies with a gentleness and care that seemingly belies his imposing exterior, but which in reality is representative of who he is and has always been at his core: A warm and kind person who wears his heart on his sleeve, who loves with everything he's got, and whose soul smells like flowers. A man who despite his wealth and power never trampels on the weak, and who although "it may not look like it" is truly "very good at looking after people". Had society bothered to look beyond his appearance and his reputation, it too would have discovered this. Instead, it chose to cast him as a monster more terrifying than a wanderer, and that is the role Sylus has been more or less forced to play ever since, and how he has been viewed for most of his long life, even initially by the people that are now closest to him.

But never by his children. In their eyes, Sylus won't ever be a fiend nor an infamous criminal — Sylus will always be their Protector. Their Hero.

Their Daddy.

And to someone who has forever been labeled as a villain or a demon, these terms will surely be more precious than all the most valuable gems and stones in the Universe put together.
