What kpop discographies would you say are also good?

I find it really hard to find kpop groups that actually have strong discogs and bsides but for me that would be, besides txt, red velvet ! Omg flawless discography they have sone of the best songs in kpop ever I love them sm 😭😭 loona !! too they have such good songs, stayc !! (They have so many good songs I cannot believe how slept on they are. Tune into their latest song gpt !! It’s so magical and fun and cute I love the flute and video game like sound it had 😭 I cannot believe people aren’t talking enough about this)

Enhypen !! They have some really strong bsides and just good music which is rare for a bg although I personally wasn’t much of a fan of their lastest cb I think the songs were a lot weaker compared to others but moonstruck was good

And say what you want about nct 127 but they have some of the best kpop bsides ever as well omg they literally make the best rnb tracks !! Their bsides and songs are so fucking good

this is probably the most random thing but none of my friends like kpop and don't acknowledge it 💔 so i'm ranting here (the day i find irl kpop friends is the day its over for everyone) and i just wanted to tell someone :')

i'm recently getting into enhypen + seventeen and my only question is why haven't i listened to them sooner????

probably the only person in the room, but i started liking seventeen because of seungkwan since he was in the devil's plan (on netflix!) which is one of my favorite shows ever and i watched the8's antifragile cover during one of their concerts (one where i think he was injured because one of his hands were in his pockets i believe) and they became my two favorites (as of now). my first seventeen song is i believe left and right but i'm addicted to hot (sue me).

i've been a listener of enhypen since their debut but only as of late i've been starting to stan them. my favorites have to be jake, niki and heesung but it's very difficult to choose since i like all of them 😭. i even learnt the bite me choreo because it looked so fun. my first song was drunk dazed. i loved the music video so much.

another group is ateez. i've only listened to their super trending songs like bouncy/k-hot chilli peppers (is that the name? help) and crazy form but my favorite is wonderland!! it's so powerful, i get so much work done after i listen to it.

and newjeans!! since they're pretty new, i've already listened to their full discography (in a single walk home??). honestly their songs are so cute but they're so short 💔. i can't stop tapping my feet whenever i listen to attention or eta or hype boy (since i learnt the main choreo for those 😭).

I have listened to 19.99!!! while at the moment (first listen in the car) I wouldn’t put it at the top of their albums/eps it’s definitely up there and it’ll probably grow into being my favorite as I listen more.

something that stands out to me, that boynextdoor continues to do, is push themselves to explore genre. this album is so different from WHO? and WHY? and HOW? but it’s also very them. you can hear aspects of their style developing in each release and that’s so wonderful to see, especially as they begin to contribute more to the writing, composition, and production on their music.

in terms of the tracks, the hiphop influence comes through a lot more than I would say on previous albums which is really cool. I’m happy for the styles and tones they’ve experimented with, particularly I will say leehan’s part in dangerous. it makes me excited to see them all try out different things from rapping to singing and maybe more of just line delivery (like it’d be interesting to see them pull off something along the lines of mortal by enhypen). but anyways!!! I love being able to see how much they’ve grown!

okay now please hear me out in that…. bottom three are not bottom three. every track on the album is a track I would place high in an overall ranking of their discography. but like if i had to rank the tracks based on first listen (+ me looking up the lyric translations):

1. gonna to be a rock - I’m a very big fan of how this song ties back to the original trilogy of releases. yes I’m glad to leave the romance aspect behind, but given I was expecting them to just cut to a completely new concepts, I absolutely love the cohesion. the metaphor of being a rock also feels reflective of their previous releases, in a but sometimes sort of way. I also just really enjoy the sonic of this song. it feel very bonedo in an overall lyric-music-performance type of way

2. call me - I could write a whole post on this one (and I probably will) and it’s a lot of the lyrics making me emotional. the instrumental aspect is really cool, love how they bring it all in in the chorus and then take it away going into the second verse but piece by piece add it back it. to me plays a bit on the aspect of loneliness but discovering slowly that you’re often not truly alone. “call me call me call me / if you lonely lonely lonely” like okay *sobs* also the “i miss you” was A Lot.

3. 20 - as someone who grew up with the idea that my 20s would hold more answers than questions (which like… wasn’t the case) this song hits home a bit. it’s a very relatable view of what feels like being young and growing up. the fairly common experience of wanting to be older than you are but reaching that age and realizing, maybe there was more to hold onto, to cherish. as a group with members in their twenties and woonhak turning 20 soon, it’s a very… gentle approach to the self and others in what it means to approach 20, to be 20, and how it all goes.

4. dangerous - I love this vibe is all I can say. leehan’s part in the second verse is so good and tbh that just made him a contestant for mark’s part in the poison cover

5. nice guy - the cocky vibes are everything in this. the hook is also sooooooooooo good. I love the kpop-ness of it. it’s definitely one of their more.. easy-listening, so to speak, type of tracks. it’s still stylistically representative of them, tho. an excellent choice for a title track.

this song is such a surprise for me and to be honest i hadn't even thought that hybe could make another good song for any other artists than newjeans /pretty srs. it has a bit of txt's thursday's child 80's vibe to it. it definitely makes much more sense than what the walmart twilight concept enhypen is doing /nm /criticism (believe me, i'm still stuck in the tamed-dashed era. also bring back the composer who makes given-taken pls /gen) i also want to give my two cents and say that i like the korean version better. i think this song was meant to be sung in korean before japanese imo

what is 2023 lissie without radiohead? from creating and planning a 20-part anthology series based of their discography to buying my favorite albums of theirs on vinyl (which are the two albums that i plaster above), they've climbed up my ranks of favorite artists of all time. i choose jigsaw specifically because i rekindle my love of playing bass from that song and climbing up the walls because of the seonghwa fic i'm planning (it is exceptionally one of the most underappreciated songs in ok computer...)

they are the children of f(x) i'm telling you!!!!!!!!! just like how i consider the boyz as the children of exo and txt as the children of shinee. they are the siblings of 2016-2019 loona and gwsn. they are the product of sm ent's music prodigy sibling and i love them for that. they also are the junior of brown eyed girls, aka one of the most iconic kpop 2nd gen gg and the one that releases bops such as brave new world, kill bill, sign, and abracadabra! i love their discography so much and they have the potential to have one of the best kpop discographies in the industry alongside red velvet. i'll gatekeep them until the end along with onf because only people with taste can enjoy their songs /lh /gen aaaaaaaaaaa

the unit that could be if modhaus don't make such a strict rule because they disbanded for not having 100k album sold (womp womp) generation is such a high-quality debut track from a small company and dimension having their own versions within the subunits is a great concept. i mean, jaden jeong is the head of the 2016-2019 loona sound and i gotta have to appreciate him for picking good tracks man. their songs are also one of the bases of sound for my oc kpop group sound in @interactivemochi. also a discussion starter question: will modhaus actually be able to do the multi-unit many-member group that sm ent wanted with nct? i actually think they will because indie labels are more experimental than the big corporate ones (aka nct will be great with their infinite concept if they're committed and take those risks) just look at jaden jeong's print on onlyoneof and loona, they're pretty small but their fans are loyal af. yet, i'm merely just a casual listener of triples because they play around with nfts (and i am a biz student who doesn't like crypto and nft)

depeche mode and other new wave and 80s experimental musicians

when you have a gen z kid who likes older songs rather than new ones, they have to listen to new wave and synth-pop, specifically depeche mode. people usually associate them with post-punk along with talking heads, joy division, new order, kate bush etc and i can definitely agree. new wave is one of my favorite genres because of how experimental they are and it is exactly what depeche mode is doing + i love the resurgence of old brit bands like the shoegaze bands that includes slowdive, mbv, and siouxsie and the banshees

Hello Fishies!! Today we're doing my absolute ult group's discography as my first post. Lemme know how you feel about this layout, and if I should add or omit certain parts.

One!! I got into Enha when they're first album came out, so I've been into their music for a hot minute. I truly love every song and I almost never skip their music when it comes on.

Two!! This is purely my opinion. If you disagree, that's fine, but be respectful. We all have our own taste, and we cannot fault each other for that.

Now that I got my little blurb out, let's actually get start!!

I have always been a Blessed-Cursed girlie since it came out. I was clutching my hypothetical pearls when I was watching the music video. Like I woke up early before school to listen/watch, and then just had to go to school like nothing happened. XO is good, but at the time of me making this, it's been out for a day, so I don't truly have a solid opinion, but I really don't think it will change.

Aight, I was tagged by the lovely @crickets-lovely-place so this is for her specifically. I the playlist I chose is the one that I've spent the most time curating, it's called Rule of 3 and the concept is simple, I choose three kpop songs that are Thematic in some way (usually the title itself but it could be a specific lyric, the songs sound or smth else)

It's not the most accurate to what I listen to generally cuz there are songs on here that I don't just listen to otherwise, but again, I've spent a lot of time on this playlist of currently 164 songs.

1. El Dorado by EXO - This song is grouped with Wonderland by Ateez and Atlantis by SHINee. It's such a good song an absolute bop! 8/10

2. Good Lil Boy by Ateez - Grouped with Pretty Boys by the Pentagon Rap Unit and Big Boy by T.O.P (formerly of Big Bang). This song honestly needs to be listened by everyone, it's one of the best Ateez b-sides 9/10

3. Red Moon by KARD - Grouped with Not by the Moon by GOT7 and Luna by Oneus. Red Moon goes incredibly hard, KARD consistently goes hard and because of BM's time growing up in Brazil their songs have some great Latin influences and Red Moon is no exception 11/10

4. Spider by Hoshi (SVT) - This song actually recently lost its place in playlist, cuz it had been paired with Venom by Stray Kids and Pink Venom by Blackpink, but it's been replaced by Sweet Venom by Enhypen. I just haven't removed it yet, cuz it's so good. I'm hoping to find it a new home. Spider is so good, and his performance video is a Much Watch. Ugh he's so good! 9/10

5. Good Love by KARD - Grouped with Like by BTS and After Like by IVE. Ooooh a second KARD song, Lets go! Good Love is a really fun chill summer time vibe, again with nice Latin influences, KARD only has Like 6 minialbums, everyone should listen to their whole discography but I digress. 8/10

6. 100 by NCT 127 - Grouped with 100 by SuperM and 100 Ways by Jackson Wang. One of NCT's least stupid songs, it does start out referencing a 1000cc engine tho so it's still stupid. God I love NCT. 100 is a pretty good gateway song to NCT tho. 7/10

7. DDU-DU DDU-DU by Black Pink - Grouped with God's Menu by Stray Kids and Doom Du Doom by P1Harmony. No intro needed, everyone knows DDU-DU DDU-DU it's an instant classic, a true banger YG give BP more comebacks 10/10

8. CALL by Stray Kids - Grouped with Don't Call Me by SHINee and Call Me by BTOB. This song is so lovely, Stray Kids are so good! They DO NOT MISS. A chill lovely vibe. My heart yearns 9/10

9. Doorbell Ringing by xikers - Paired with Thats a No No by Itzy, I need a third "Dont kill my vibe" song still 😫. MY BOYS! Xikers is just over a year old at time of post, and i love them! They are gonna be at the top of the industry for 5th gen. As of their third mini-album this is a top 5 xikers song! It's legit so good! It does not kill the vibe, it IS the vibe! 12/10

10. Jopping by SuperM - Grouped with Horololo by EXO-CBX and Sorry, Sorry by Super Junior. WHEN WE JUMPING AND POPPING WE JOPPING!!! BROS This song is IT (it being the very beginning of my descent into the madness that is stanning NCT) But fr this is an absolute banger, you will be jopoing by the end of the song, I have no notes, everyone needs to hear this song STAT! 100/10

Hi OMG my favorite groups there's a lot but SHINee is my ultimate favorite like their my first grout that brought me into K-pop and I cannot go a day without playing their music 🥹 but I really love exo my most listened to with SHINee. Then Tomorrow by together (txt) they are neck in neck with SHINee, day6 I loveeeee them so much, loved their comeback. The Boyz!!! I saw in person actually amazing live😭. OH ATEEZ I saw them on tour as well literal beasts on stage another ultimate group for me like guerilla live was an outer body experience that I will love to relive over and over again. Seventeen, bts, 127, dream, enhypen, monsta x, 2pm, oh a Japanese rock band called one ok rock AMAZING DISCOGRAPHY I highly recommend luxury disease one of my favorite albums ever!! Enhypen debuted on November 30th 2020 and I found them on a random day in September 2021. Or rather, they found me. Because if I didn't decide to search their name on YouTube after that one recommendation from a random comment I got on an anime Wattpad fanfiction I was reading back in 2021, I never would've clicked on the Tamed-Dashed Music Video. I never would've found Yang Jungwon & Kim Sunoo so pretty and wanting to learn their names. I never would've fallen absolutely in love with the song and never would've looked up the rest of their discography so far and been completely enraptured by them. Enhypen would never have become exactly the distraction I needed to take my mind off the shitfest that was my life at the time, to make me laugh and smile and remember what being happy felt like by simply watching them have fun together, grow together. If they hadn't found me...

I wouldn't have discovered Tomorrow by Together that debuted on March 4th 2019. I'm not sure exactly when it happened but I started listening to their music too and it reopened a door I'd long closed, to a room where a little girl sat alone and forgotten. Their music let her out, showed me that she was still there, that she needed me. They showed me that even if I had to grow up, I shouldn't leave her behind. She could come with me, I could make her happy again, I could play with her and love her. I shouldn't leave her behind like everyone else had or toss her aside like everyone else did. Their songs pushed me through another tough time. TxT became my friends, their music the time we shared together. They brought life back to the little girl inside me and showed me it was okay to grow up as long as I remembered she was there and never let her dreams die. If not for them...

Stray Kids that debuted on March 20th 2018 never would've found me on a random day in November 2022. To this day I'm convinced. They found me. The catchy chorus of Case 143, the blinding colors of the Music Video and the fun, new & unique take on a love song wouldn't have hooked me and made me search their names. I was going through yet another hard time, walking down a path that...admittedly, might've been the road to my early destruction. But I learnt their names, I listened to their songs and in the process I was able to realize just how much I'd been failing. Not failing my family, not failing my "friends," not failing my communities like I'd managed to make myself believe, no. I was failing myself. I wasn't being fair to me, I wasn't loving me, I wasn't being me. Stray Kids found me and helped me find myself.

Helped me see myself for the very first time and see who I wanted to become more clearer than ever before. They made me see that the life I was living was mine and mine alone. That I could do whatever I wanted to do and shouldn't feel bad about it! They helped me love that I'm weird, I'm funny, I'm goofy and unique. They helped me understand that even if my skills were average now at best and I wasn't the shiny trophy everyone liked to show off when I was a child it was still okay. I was still okay. None of that mattered if I wasn't happy anymore. If I was happy no longer being the best then I didn't need to hurt myself to be the best for anyone else. They helped me see my worth, helped me learn so many things, reignited the flames of passion inside me and made me love life again! Made me want to live again! And not just live for livings sake but to live the life I wanted for myself! Because that's all that really mattered. Nothing less than that and if I suddenly decided I wanted more, as long as I'm willing to put in the work, I can have as much more as I want. I'm not undeserving of it, I'm not selfish for it. Not in the slightest bit. Stray Kids saved me. Just as TxT saved the little girl inside me and Enhypen saved pre-teen me.

Tomorrow is Stray Kids' 6th Anniversary but November will mark my 2 years of being a STAY. TxTs' 5th Anniversary was earlier this month but 2024 marks my 3 years of being a MOA. ENHYPENs' 4th Anniversary will be later this year but September will mark my 3 years of being an ENGENE and soon I'll also be celebrating one year with BOYNEXTDOOR.

These past 3 years...have been the best 3 years of my entire life.

I Need The Light by Enhypen - idk why but I only ever listened to Enha's albums, and nothing else? I'm not a stan per se, despite me having listening to pretty much every song in their discography lmaooo, i just don't watch any content of theirs outside of their music. i haven't really thought about whether or not concept photos should reflect the album sound, but i do think in minisode 3's case it definitely shaped my expectations! the photos and concept trailer had a whole magical realism with a touch of sad longing vibe going on... i'll definitely check out the woodz and onf songs you linked to (i already love love love black swan). and i do love your approach to listening broadly, not just different kinds of kpop but also different genres outside it! it's a good way to build your taste and figure out what kind of music works for you. like this year i've been trying to listen to more female artists bc i noticed that my spotify artists tend to skew male.

i also read your other txt album reviews and i breathed a HUGE sigh of relief when you said tinnitus felt stagnant / droning... other fans are always raving about how it's one of their best b-sides but to me the song just sounds too static for me to feel the same. and i guess that goes w the theme of wanting to be a rock but i personally don't find that compelling to listen to? farewell neverland and blue spring were also my faves on temptation and freefall, i think i just like acoustic / acoustic-esque songs haha.

i'm actually curious about your thoughts on tdc: eternity and tdc: magic! personally eternity is my fave txt album sound-wise so i'd love to know what your faves there are too~

lissie: welcome 🌻 anon! sorry for the late reply cause i’ve been drowning with deadlines (it’s my exam week so…) but i have time now to answer you!

i, for one, believe that visual and audio should match in some way. there’s a few reasons as to why i usually ranked comebacks so low if the visual teasers doesn’t match up with what the title track (at least) sounds like because they came packaged together. most kpop comebacks usually revolve more around the performance and visual rather than sound nowadays and i’ve seen a lot more reviews saying that kpop albums sounds more like a compilation as it’s not cohesive enough. so that’s why i cherish tdc: magic and eternity so much.

that’s why i was hoping for the magical, fantasy sound you mentioned on your previous ask to be in this comeback and not just deja vu! and of course, do check them out. i’ve been trying to get people to know more about onf cause their discography is top-notch. their producer is the same as the one who produced 2016-2020 loona songs (monotree). woodz also has a unique trajectory in his career from being in uniq, to soloist, to x1, to then focus on soloist. i love that he, txt, and dreamcatcher are the pioneers of the pop rock sound within kpop idols. and yeah, listening to expanding your music taste palette also helps in your kpop experience, like, you can actually appreciate more on songs fans usually know as “noise music” cause you’ll know the specific genres it’ll be.

ah yes tinnitus. i forgot to mention the killa in your last ask so i’m doing it here. i think people like tinnitus and the killa so much because of the performance aspect. txt is not known as the mature/sexy boys compared to, let’s say, enhypen (even though i hate that thought so much cause i feel icky towards the impact of it now). so when they have those types of performances, of course, it’ll pop off. sex sells everywhere, including kpop acts and writings fics. so that’s why they've become the more known b-sides recently and that’s why i said that the killa is trying to be tinnitus in a way that trust fund baby wants to be anti-romantic. sure, tinnitus is catchy af but i still think that it is too droning if listened to by itself outside of seeing the performance. my reviews are coming from the musical aspect, not the performance.

yes! i love acoustic sound so much. plus i think when it comes to farewell, neverland like the song itself is so cohesive and it matches the neverland concept so much.

ooh i, for one, think that both magic and eternity really embody each of their concepts both visually and sonically. i like tdc: magic (other than it's a full album rather than an ep) because it is just full of fun sonic experimentations. almost all the songs sound different yet still create a cohesiveness, especially between the run from new rules to can we just leave the monster alive?; but also with the concept. imo, it is a timeless album imo (tho having angel or devil as the last track makes it lacking in compare to new rules as a perfect opening track. i would love to make leave the monster alive as the outro track for the album)

as for tdc: eternity, i like it more because of the music and it does well in combining more of the fantastical side to make an album solely to tell about a dissolution of friendship from growing up. most of the songs there are part of playlists i made (i do like drama, but i like the slow-down version from the eternity concept trailer which i have put the soundcloud audio of below vv). can you see me is so cool, i can sing along to puma from the start, fairy of shampoo is so twinkly, i can play maze in the mirror on my guitar and basically can make a cover for it (if yall want), and eternally: best stage performance from their concert (i've been able to see it twice and i love both iterations) and such a dynamic song
