in my more manic aftg daydreams, i wonder about neil's teeth.

like he clearly didn't stop off to get braces in his awkward tween years. we're pretty sure his diet wasn't great and we know it wasn't reliable. is he blessed with great teeth and so it isn't an issue? i suspect not...

maybe he has a snaggle? (i'd die if i saw aftg art of neil with a snaggle incisor or something.) maybe a little gap between his front teeth? maybe his bottom teeth are stacked a bit? maybe he gets invisalign when he's older (can't do braces, that's a hazard in exy, but invisalign is alright, he reasons)

(andrew kind of loves the little gap but he also sees how excited neil is to decide to do something for himself, to make a change that he chooses for himself... a change that takes time to commit to, and that means neil isn't going anywhere bc he needs his new invisalign tray in a few weeks. andrew decides he can deal with the cups of water sitting around the apartment with retainers bobbing in them if it means neil stays)

everyone’s least fav boothill thinker (me) has a work in their notes app but chooses to dump some thoughts here too

so boothill doesn’t need sleep, at least i don’t think he does. with state of the art technology, a few upgrades once in a while, and sheer willpower, he can be ‘awake’ for longer periods of time. so after a long day of fighting some ‘ipc cuties’ as he’d call them, he comes back to you exhausted.

he forgets that he’s made out of metal in this tired state and leans into you, giving you a lazy back hug. it doesn’t charge him up but it sure does charge up his mental battery. he’s heavy but slowly, you were able to drag him to his power station. it’s right next to the bed so it gives him a moment to cuddle you as his body charges up.

I'm not completely opposed to making Pharma a weird guy in general pre-Messatine, the main issue I have with it is that a lot of that type of fandom is less "what if he was just a weird little guy" and more seems to be written with the implication that Pharma went crazy because he was just always a little crazy (or a little evil, or a little heartless, etc). Basically, to me it downplays the fact that Pharma underwent massive trauma for two years straight that other characters barely survived for a few hours/days and instead frames Pharma snapping as some sort of... I don't know, genetic/fated downfall because he was just weird, he was always off, is it really any wonder Pharma ended up Like That because I mean there was always something a little weird about him.

It just seems to accidentally imply that Pharma snapping under the pressure of years of torture was some sort of moral failing or sign of him being weak/immoral. You know, Pharma was always kind of a little creepy/insane/evil deep down which is obviously why he killed people. If he were just a normal, not-weird, good person then he would've been mentally strong enough to Not Go Insane. Like uhhhh it just seems kind of fucked up to imply that the reason some people are unable to cope with long-term trauma and have violent/unhealthy coping behaviors is because there's just something innately wrong with them, and then try and look back on their whole life trying to contextualize how they were actually unstable and evil all along instead of just accepting that like. Normal people (tm), yes normal and good people, can be put in situations where they're slowly turned into broken monsters because they had no escape and no good choices.

And also it's equally fucked up to imply that like. Whether or not you can deal with psychological torture without snapping is some sort of function of how innately moral or mentally strong you are. Incredibly victim-blamey to basically go "well the reason Pharma went insane is because he was just always cracked in the head, unlike our good buddy-pal-friend-hero Ratchet who's the perfect doctor and a good Autobot who's never done anything wrong which is why when he's an asshole/hurts people he's not nearly as destructive or Weird About It."

It's not that "Pharma was always kind of crazy" can't be done, because anything can be written well with enough thought. But I think in terms of writing, it's a very difficult and nuanced line to balance and most people literally just can't do it without implying that trauma victims/mentally ill people are evil or something. And Pharma is already unfairly villainized enough as-is, and in canon his trauma was already downplayed in favor of "haha crazy doctor chainsaw go brrr look how weird and quirky and craaaazyyy he is." So it's one of those things where 1. Most people just aren't good enough to write it and 2. "Always a little crazy" Pharma is already oversaturated enough in the fandom anyways and it's enough of a battle to get people to recognize that he's a tragic character and not just an evil asshole.

your tags ohh my godddddd. evbo ascended before he ever even ran for the first time. an entire caste of people forced to their feet and barely able to even shamble them every day to get their meager scraps. evbo lived like that for 5 years. maybe as he gets his iron boots, somewhere else another player spawns for the first time and falls down to the pro level. the first thing they do as a true member of parkour society? is sprint. evbo’s stomach pangs.

I don’t know how I forgot to mention it, but oh my god the hunger, the constant hunger that accompanies being a parkour noob. And because it is all they’ve ever known they think it’s normal. And wow like even in the videos Evbos delight at the cooked beef is heartbreaking. Especially because there is so much of it that they are just withholding from the other noobs. And and, did you know the first shot in the entire movie is Evbo looking at a furnace ? Why would they even have those in their house, just to mock them ??

But yeah, I think about how the raw food is ever just enough to get them to the next day. And to try and conserve that little hunger you have to do nothing, just wait in your house- for the next day. And in doing so the parkour noobs can’t even practice parkour without risking starving from it. The system is so stacked against them and they don’t even know it.

I sketched out most of these months ago while I was playing through KRtDLDX for the first time. The Epilogue was giving me thoughts and the brainworms were feeding. Still, I didn’t really have any big piece ideas for these, so I figured I’d just slap them all into a comp, throw some lines and color on, and call it done. A little loose on context, I admit, but I think they came out okay in the end. I just love drawing this wretched man (and the clown that bothers him).
