The persuit of knowledge is a dangerous mountain to hike.
For when does the best berry bush or hunting spot become creation of new elements, the bringing of fire and the taming of beasts?
For when does it rise furthermore and become the harness of venom that rots the earth and the greed for things we do not need, the raking of our manmade talons through the air to let the sun scorch the earth and acid pour from the skies?
For when do those beyond our mortal minds take notice?
For when do we go too far?

I'll have you know that I hate needles but the only thing I've tried that successfully calms me down/distracts me from getting vaccinated/blood drawn is reading YOUR POEMS SPECIFICALLY out loud while I get the shot. I'm planning to read out the hope one next week when I get my flu and covid boosters 👍
that’s. actually kind of amazing
#thank u for telling me i will be thinking about this for the next one thousand years#like the poems are by far the creative endeavor i am least confident about#i obviously enjoy writing them but i always thought they were just silly#so having any sort of actual positive impact on Anyone still always makes my brain short circuit a little#splashasks#anonymous

非原 【 fēiyuán 】 HACKNEYED /ˈhaknēd/ adjective
lacking in freshness or originality : overused
Aren't you tired, little thing? Of your shelter swathed in frost; Never able to thaw and melt, never knowing the sweetness of spring.
Have you simply been here too long? So the cold is all you know; An endless storm, fueled by your anger and unquenched grief.
Do you ever think of the outside? To remember the joys of discovery; It waits within reach, beyond your suffocating cycle of loathing.

#bungo stray dogs#bsd#literature#dark academia#reading list#academia#i'm sure there's people i've missed but i did my best LOL#this also really throws into a stark contrast how relatively un-worldly american literary curriculums really are#obviously; it makes vague sense to focus american literary schooling on the western 'canon' bc so much of the english language#is influenced by it and the 'culture' is more touched by it but HOLY SHIT does it just... astound me#how uneducated i am on even east asian literature (from wheremst i technically hail!!!)#i know like.... maybe 3?? 4??? chinese writers off cuff???#like the only reason i even know anything about jpn literature is i got my minor in jpn so i read some stuff but WOWWWWW there's a wORLD.#the fact that i knew not a SINGLE work by most of these jpn writers but as soon as we got to the guild members#i didn't even have to fucking google/wiki -- i just KNEW off the top of my head#kinda fucked up tbh;;;;#anyway this list is massive but i think at least dipping my foot into some of the poems/short stories will be fun

Thinking about how most of the time when you have the option to stay quiet during a companion quest you get approval for letting them handle it and sometimes even get disaproval for talking over them
And then with Shadowheart's quest speaking up with Viconia not only gives a +5(while *keep silent* gives nothing) but also if you don't do that she will look genuinely scared when Viconia asks you to hand her over
#girl just wants someone to love her and stand up for her😭#I've been choosing to stay silent for all my pt's since I'm so used to letting the companions handle their own quests#so I always get the scared look at Viconia's offer#which is heartbreaking but makes perfect sense#she's spent most of her life being used and abused by her caretakers whose love was so desperate for#of course when confronted with that trauma she's gonna have a moment of doubt in regards to the person she loves now#but turns out just standing up for her beforehand cuts that panic short!#anyway I just think it's a very interesting character detail that having someone vocally have her back#is more important than leading the confrontation herself#bg3#shadowheart#also not to get overly self-indulgent#but you know that one poem about how to the author being butch means this feeling of chivalry towards other girls?#that feeling is part of why this romance works so well for me#Shadowheart isn't weak and she is the hero of her own story#but you do kinda get to be her knight in shining armor so to speak you know?#larian did a great job of balancing that with still making sure she has enough agency and stands on her own#and without ever making it feel like the romance is mainly geared towards men#I appreciate that

have i mentioned that i’ve been obsessed with zines recently? i made one
this one’s just eight pages long, but it’s fun to just kinda ramble and arrange pictures and text around!
#personal#i’m resisting the urge to call this cringe. like i did have fun doing it but the ingrained reflex of feeling shame for any genuine#expression of joy and interest in a topic is getting to me#but anyway this was mostly a test for future endeavors#like maybe making some of my feministy essays into zines and selling them on etsy? idk. i just like the physicality of zines.#feels more real y’know?#and maybe some illustrated poems and short stories etc.#oh! also i finally got my printer working! (for the most part at least)

CHANGING STATES
Lately, something has taken hold / of me—not hunger, not shame. It is like a flower / blooming in the injury. —Richie Hofmann
On the evening Jeremiah decides he’ll drive thirty hours to Maryland, the other half of his mattress is cold and Madonna’s on the radio. In his bedroom, he taps his cigarette on the windowsill, the ash scattering into rainy blue hour, and listens. Time goes by so slowly, she goes, her voice singed through his boombox’s broken speakers. He’s meant to replace it, though he’s meant to do a lot of things: check the mail, make a quiche, buy lightbulbs, call his sister, take up cross-stitch, recycle an olive jar, move his bed to the opposite side of his room. But time goes by so slowly, and Jeremiah would know—he’s twenty-one, yet feels he’s been alive for much, much longer.
#i already shared this BUT I WAS TINKERING WITH THIS PROJECT TONIGHT#(this morning I had revelations to make this autofiction-y about going to a place and before getting there someone dies)#which is loosely based off 2022 me in maryland and this is 2005 jeremiah in maryland!!!!#ANYWAY TONIGHT I WROTE A PARAGRAPH ABOUT JEREMIAH IN LOVE WITH THE WEATHERMAN#but i was sick of not having a title (the document is legit 'jeremiah book' lol)#SO I THINK THIS IS FINE????#also it's not going to be a book it's probably going to be a short story!!! and it's like my apology to this poor man for inflicting#harrison upon him#my bad babe#i still need to fix this paragraph the phrasing is a little off!!! BUT he talked about madonna's new album in BB#AND HE'S LISTENING TO IT NOW!!!!#I'M A LIL UNWELL OVER THE CONTINUITY#also pls read that hofmann poem (linked!!!!!) I LOVE THAT COLLECTION SM I CAN'T BELIEVE I GOT IT FOR FREEEEE#changingstates

i want to be loved
dearly.
i want to be treated
roughly.
i want to be embraced
softly.
i want to be hit
quickly.
***
till the last troubled breath
with the best thorned wreath
wrapped round my cold head
go ahead till i'm dead.
till the blood comes to halt.
i'm alright. i'm alright.
please again, please forgive,
i forget and repeat...
at the top of my lungs
i scream and cry for all signs
to come down from the sky
to watch little boy cry.

top ten breakfasts that inspire poetry
#with some red tomato salsa on top its so good#i just made some and life is beautiful again#the perfect breakfast is egg in the hole both sides generously crisped with butter#cooked so that the yolk is runny and soft#a perfect dipping sauce for when you pull the bread apart with your bare hands#a meal too good to be simply eaten with a fork like normal it is meant to be devoured#yolk running down your fingers from the bread as you pop it bit by bit into your mouth#so... in short one of the best breakfasts to exist#has me thinking about a poem about the trials of making the perfect one#having made mnay egg in a holes which were not great to almost perfect#theres an artform in knowing when to flip it#too early and the bread is not toasted and delicious and the yolk may break and fill your pan and not your mouth#too late and one side becomes much more toasted than the other and the yolk cooks leaving u with an adequate breakfast#but not the perfect one and the knowledge leaves you staring forlornly at it as u eat it with the fork#knowing the breakfast it couldve shouldve been#its an exercise in both patience which i have always lacked#and confidence overcoming the nerves of breaking your yolk which is something i have learned to slowly have#as the years go by i get better at having both of those things the patience and the confidence#and have made better and better breakfasts and one day i will make an egg in a hole that is perfect and beautiful and just like my grandpas

we live in deathly emptiness, try push against it — and pus will gush, and we muffle fear with a piercing howl — those at the front and in the back, as one. and obligatory sacrifices, our fathers hailed time and again, have sealed the fate of our generation — rid us of mind and memory and eyes.
— Vladimir Vysotsky
circa 1980
