Finished watching S3 of the Walking Dead game series. I remember watching a play through years ago and not liking it much… but watching a play through by a different YTber gave me a different perspective. Or maybe it’s ‘cause I’m older that I ended up having a diff opinion.
Either way. I’m glad Gabe lived. He’s a bit of a shithead, but like, he’s getting there. I can’t hate on teen or child characters much TBH. Javi and Kate are okay too.
I liked how Kate is so straightforward and how she never really faltered in her feelings. Maybe she’s different if you pick the nonromantic options, but I felt like she was the most clearheaded. Also, I loved her VA. She has a beautiful voice.
David… I pity him in the sense that I pity the fact that he convinced himself that he wasn’t capable of change. I can’t say good riddance—I don’t think he deserved to die—but, like. Yeah. I feel sorry for Javi, mostly. David was so insecure and took it out on him, and everyone around him.
Tripp… Okay, I accept his apology. Too bad they just killed him off right away lmao. Honestly, he was really everywhere IMO. I feel like he warmed up to Javi way too fast (saying he could trust him with his life), when they’d only known each other for a few days… and then the apology after, like. I feel like he cooled off way too quickly. Then again, I suppose the trauma of nearly being killed would change someone lol.
Ava… She was cool and very level and helpful. So disappointed she’s just… killable. She didn’t even get to reunite with Clem, which is sad! (She died first in this play through.)
Eleanor… Oh my god, she pissed me off. Like, did she (and Tripp) fucking forget how Joan’s raids killed their people too!? (And did Tripp forget how Joan raided their town!?) Like, yeah, Javi might’ve been the unfortunate catalyst—but, like, it was Joan’s plan! I cannot believe she and Tripp were, like, maybe we’ll join Joan! Like, fuck offff.
Jesus… He can ride a horse and use a katana. Telltale deprived him of screentime, because he was too high-spec.
Clementine… Poor baby. Also, very awful and anti-climactic way of killing off Kenny. Yeesh. And Clem trying to spin David as Not as Bad as You Think felt like a very weak attempt to try to grasp at sympathy for a character who was not endearing in any way. Ofc, I get that Clem is just so relieved that AJ is alive that it overrides anything else. Plus, she shot David after, so.
AJ… He’s so cute, ugh. Baby boy.
Joan… Perfectly hate-able. There’s always gotta be some raging, greedy asshole. I like how useless Clint was lol. Some kind of system you got there… I also like how IDK few(?) her appearances were? She showed up the perfect amount and exited at the right time lol. I like villains that don’t overstay their welcome.

The best fics are the ones that recognize that although Luke Skywalker may APPEAR on the outside to be a normal friendly twink who happens to have cool powers, especially when contrasted with such ship partners as Boba or Din or even Han, he is arguably the scariest person alive in the galaxy around the prequel era. AND, crucially, he is also a fundamentally weird guy. This man was homeschooled on a rural farm his entire life and then apprenticed to a swamp gremlin who showed him how to tap into the cosmic power of the universe. He blew up the death star age 19, killing approx 2 million-ish Imperials. He is a vortex of Force power that can communicate with the ghosts of dead Jedi. He’s staring into the distance and mumbling to himself and doing Yoda aphorisms and casually pulling out the “yeah I could crush that guy into a paste with my mind (:” and nobody around him knows what to do with that. I think he is a character who has very little frame of reference for how a Jedi or a person in general is supposed to act and there is some thing about him that is by necessity really fucking weird and a little scary but he’s so nice that it can throw you off the scent a little bit. Thanks for coming to my TED talk

Logan and Wade almost always do the nasty with the lights out and Wade is a little disappointed but he gets it and he resigned himself to a lifetime of dark sex long before Logan came along, sucks to know that your partner doesn’t want to look at you while getting down to business but its something Wade can live with.
Meanwhile, after a long day of stupid big bright lights Logan loves to have the lights out when making love with Wade because there isn’t any extra light bugging him and his natural night vision means he can see Wade perfectly, just the way he likes it

I don’t know if any non-Jews noticed this in the last d20 ep but Brennan has changed how he refers to Gulsum, the Mordred Manor real estate guy, from golem to construct! When Gulsum was first referenced in sophomore year he was called a flesh golem, but in junior year he has been called a flesh construct. In episode 12 of FHJY Brennan even made sure to correct himself when he misspoke and said golem instead of construct, which proved to me this was an active effort on his part.
The term golem comes from Jewish mysticism and has religious connotations so some Jewish people find it offensive when the term gets co-opted into fantasy settings without regard for the original source. It’s cool to see Brennan moving away from that and trying to find less loaded terms to use instead, like construct.

Over the past month or so there have been more people using the term transandrophobia while saying shit about how trans women are male socialized or whatever the fuck and I’m gonna have some kind of fucking breakdown. It was bad enough being accused of that shit and always having to apologize for other random transmascs when there weren’t people like that in the tags, but now I don’t even know what to do, it’s just something else that’s gonna be used against me. Can I sleep for 30 years and see if the trans community is okay again by then

Holy shit I love your Dirk interpretations, it's so true and I could talk about this shit forever.
I feel like another part of his character that people seem to forget (along with Roxy for some reason) is that he's from the future in solitude in an apocalyptic wasteland. I just see that part of his character always removed which is disappointing because I feel like that's a pretty big part, especially regarding his themes around technology, his brother's theme of Time, his own isolation, and how he plays in the vastness of the universe and spacetime.
Art I drew related to the subject because I like to respond to asks with art.
But absolutely. I certainly understand where the lack of discussion over his isolation + upbringing comes from, considering a majority of the fanbase that I have seen builds their ideas based on their own version of postcanon. I’m not entirely sure how that would be fixed, but certainly even in the somewhat recent past I would see a lot more content regarding his upbringing both literally and symbolically. I don’t have much to add regarding the things you’ve mentioned, because they just are what they are. Dirk being confined to a singular room left to him by a father figure he never met, in a future where the only other person left on the planet is someone he cannot pursue a relationship of because of himself, with purely 3 robots to keep him companion, one being an exact replica of his own brain who is *also* trapped inside a pair of glasses, is about as literal as it gets to me.
The contrast to me involving the flooded, organic world in comparison to the little speckle of Dirk’s apartment packed with the dude and his technics is not only a representation of his isolation and entrapment within himself, but also of his lack of control. I think his obsession with & themes of control are a direct product in the case of Dirk specifically *of* this kind of upbringing. His themes of technology are also related to his themes around control. So much of his character is actually revolved around this to me like so much. Dirk is so deeply disconnected from humanity in every way and so much of his character + symbolism is based around that.
It doesn’t even have to be about the symbolism or anything though. It’s just pretty *interesting* in the literal sense that he lives in the middle of the ocean in the future. There’s not only a lot to theorise on to do with his young life there, but on how it might affect him in the way he acts for the rest of his life. The latter part is probably what I see mentioned the most by people talking about Dirk regarding this, I’m surprised I don’t see more discussion on the former too though. I really ought to actually talk more about Homestuck stuff on here. I will do it myself.
Roxy & Dirk’s relationship is largely ignored though because there is a narrative a certain demographic spreads that Dirk resented and blamed Roxy for her interest in him, and thus too many people believe that their relationship was or would continue to be an abusive one. Realistically, I believe it’s important to acknowledge that the way Roxy treated Dirk regarding his homosexuality wasn’t right while still acknowledging the obvious amount of respect and admiration Dirk had for Roxy. I mean we have a huge piece of dialogue from their post trickster mode conversations on the quest beds from Dirk purely stating how he feels about Roxy that people completely ignore somehow. I think this usually happens to characters that are women though. I know everyone says it, but it is true. Jane gets the exact same treatment of boiling her down to solely her negative aspects. The things I see completely mischaracterising both of them are horrific.
I mean how much more explicit can it get that their relationship is obviously very important to Dirk? But I digress. I think the best or I should say “most interesting” interpretations of their relationship usually come from DirkRoxy shippers actually.
I would be interested to hear about Dirk’s relation to his brother’s theme of time though. I don’t have any thoughts on this and I don’t recall ever hearing anyone talk about it before. If you or anyone else would be willing to enlighten me I’d be thrilled.
