I DONT KNOW that’s why it’s so weird!!! It was such a weird and extreme and offputting thing to do. I cant even think of any specific thing I said that could trigger that reaction because it is SO bizarre. If I had to guess it would be because the subject matter is so terrible, even in ways I dont address in my essay, and I make a very compelling case it is fact based. Or just the emotional reaction to it was very visceral.

Also, its not just that the cover art and secondhand copies randomly disappeared right after my essay so I assume it must be because of me. There is other strong circumstantial evidence to indicate the stuff with the book occurred that I would prefer not to talk about.

Given the extremity of this incident, and how outrageous it is to remove the cover art and secondhand copies, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to suggest that other sources linked in my essays that got taken down around the same time were related to this. It’s not just that the occasional article or YouTube video disappears. It was a ton of stuff along with other bizarre and inexplicable coincidences in a short window of time.

Like yeah, some videos got taken down like the only interview where he talks about his book. But it was stuff way more involved than that too. Like someone filled out a 2 page form on the Vimeo website with a name address and phone number claiming they were the direct copyright holder to get a fancam of Goodnight Moon I made in 11th grade taken down after I linked to my Vimeo account in the bibliography of a video essay.

Someone in Chicago who did not frequently visit my blog with that device spent 3 days going through 1,270+ pages of my blog searching dozens of term combinations looking to see if I’ve ever posted about Pete’s mother. In addition to the suspect location, this is a massive anomaly both in terms of activity on my blog, as well as stuff the fandom cares about.

Brendon Urie’s dumb lawsuit was taken out of the LA court portal after I referenced it in my Brent Wilson essay. An article about Kenny Harris’ sexual misconduct allegations was removed after that essay too. Several different copies of screenshots of Tweets from Ian and Breezy complaining about Brendon were taken down after the publication of that essay. After Pete’s friend posted another essay I wrote on his Instagram story, scans I linked in it disappeared and the band started selling an edited copy with that quote removed a few months later. Etc. The MTV website was extremely broken so it’s possible these were coincidental, but a number of suspicious articles and videos were regularly disappearing too.

ALSO. I wrote a 50 page essay about SWMRS/Burger that was extremely negative towards many bands and reached way higher visibility, and absolutely nothing happened with that and no sources were taken down. Same with a 20 page MCR lyrical analysis essay. If these things happened randomly all the time, it would’ve happened with the sources linked in those essays too.

All of these things, in combination with the strong circumstantial evidence surrounding his book getting half-pulled off the market after of my essay, were not all a string of random unrelated coincidences and I secretly have undiagnosed schizophrenia or whatever.

When you consider the *objective facts* of this situation, such as Pete’s friend posting about my essay on social media around the time this stuff occurred, it is way more likely the essays made it onto his radar and like The FOB Surveillance State (jk) did not approve or whatever. Some of these things may be coincidences, but taking all of the evidence into account, it becomes unlikely that this is all random and I’m crazy.

Also, it’s not like him finding these just randomly happened. I made it happen. It’s really embarrassing to say this, it feels very childish now, and IDK what the point of this was, but starting when I was a literal teenager I put a lot of work and made a lot of purposeful decisions over a period of years to get the bandom essays noticed. This included interviewing several artists he and his friends signed or followed on social media, putting several people who are not famous in the essays, fostering cats for his friend and applying to work there, et cetera. All of this was genuine, but it was also intentional.

Other people (such as UNEMPLOYED Brand New fans) have been able to do the same thing and leverage amateur projects like this to interview the band or write a book or whatever.

And like whatever, if I’m a shitty talentless writer and am just not picked that’s fine. But also like, I don’t want to continue liking these bands when I have plenty of reason to believe their management or whatever are going through my essays to take down sources and also try to “takesies backsies” Pete’s stupid book about calling his ex a bitch and degrading all the women he’s slept with because of my very positive and respectful fanwork about it.

Especially when they’re also handing out book deals and interviews like candy to untalented unemployed dudes with insane passion projects that “just so happen” to talk about how Brand New are victims of cancel culture and Hayley Williams is a misandrist bitch and Pete Wentz threw the first brick at feminist Stonewall. Like it’s just not something that makes me happy anymore and I’m embarrassed and disgusted I ever thought it was cool.

TRIPLE ESPECIALLY when they are also aggressively pushing gross creepy daddy kink music and claiming it’s because they support women’s free speech. And going through Twitter indirects to call anyone who has a problem with it sexist because you should “let women say what they want.” But not me clearly!!! Not female fans who engage intelligently with the culture and history. Thats for the grown-up anti-cancel-culture dudes only. The only free speech for female fans is “daddy spit on my pussy!!”

Also everyone wants to like Destroy Me With Facts And Logic or whatever and tell me it’s okay and not wrong and I’m being irrational and crazy and argue if it is Morally Acceptable for an artist to do this. but like. If you were in my position. Even everything else aside, just the position of putting so much effort and care into a very positive and respectful fanwork and then you have reason to believe the creator somehow found your essay and attempted to remove the book from circulation afterwards. Like would you want to keep being a fan? Do you think they want you to be a fan? NO!!

Then if you tried to be like “Hey it really bothered me on a personal level I think this happened” and their insane fans started camping out in your inbox calling you “schizophrenic” “a bitch” “racist” “delusional” etc over it for months. Would you keep enjoying the band. NO!! Probably not. Especially when the band’s entourage encourages this type of behavior by putting individual fans who talk about misogyny on blast so they will get cyberbullied.

Like this entire thing started because I made a joke text post about “Dictator Wentz” 3 months ago and a specific clique of deranged FOB fans (coincidentally, right around when the bands entourage started encouraging fans to cyberbully people who discuss their history of misogyny) started camping out on my blog to complain and call me a pathetic schizo bitch every time I posted about ANYTHING. Like it’s really really embarrassing to live life knowing that PW reacted so badly to my essay specifically.

I didnt talk about how I felt or what I suspected happened for a long time because I was scared of someone specific seeing it or other fans getting mad and calling me crazy (WHICH HAPPENED). But like I dont like pretending either and these feelings didnt go away and eventually when the band stopped being as active I felt ready to post about it.

to summarise everything to happen to buntom throughout the season (saturday leauge s4, plus a guest visit to friday leauge s3) : she is dehumanised , treated as an animal or uncontrollable/feral by multiple other teams, downright called his teams PET by someone (hi sonicmike. hows your day . ) and destroys shit and kills people over it. as you do. and also helps build a giant network of paths in the sky (skynet) which are burnt down (he rebuilds them) (wtf sonicmike)

he gets mixed up with sheeptom (the other mctom in beastlife) after they go to a wedding on applecraft (another server. hard to explain) and deals with new people who are.... nice to xem for the most part? And treat er like a person? he has to bury one of them. besides that, it was good for him. she likes the people in friday league.

and then ves back. and he wakes up at her teammates grave. with more time(4) and signs from sheeptom telling her that it was sorry that they had to do it. and that their teammates love them. there's a funeral for someone else. hardly anyone honors space for dying too. he resents them for this.

the only teammate he has around at this time, is echidna. and echidna is walking away from where they live, so fuck it. and he follows. and theyre in the middle of nowhere together, far above the others. and hes safe for a while there. they both have a few hours till they die, but its peaceful.

they shouldve broken the path to where they were. practically the entire server comes to find them and hunt them down. they spawn kill them. they barely escape. they go back to their old base. they get found. echidna runs out of time. buntom dies, but still has time. he hides. she goes to the nether. tom covers the portal in lava. xey trap themself in the nether for the last hour(ish) heart has to live.

he resents herself for this. xey cut their dyed parts of hair off (they liked their dyed hair. it was her favorite part of how he looked, but it made him not fit in. if only he was like the others, then maybe they wouldnt have hated him. maybe then echidna mightve been alive.) and play tic tac toe with lunatic. over and over. and over and over.

and its the last session

and you have 24 minutes left to live

and you play tic tac toe

over and over

and over and over

and you admit that you're scared to die (this isnt the first time you've told lunatic this. you did it when you first hid.)

OKAY STRAP IN MOTHER FUCKERS IM ABOUT TO BRAIN DUMP

1) the theme.

So, as always, the boys changed their hair. It happens every era and i love it. Now from some screenshots from the Super Bowl where they where wearing hats, the fan base figured that Josh went red again and Tyler shaved his hair. Now from Josh’s pfp on instagram, we can see that we were right:

And I’m very happy about it.

Also, people have been calling it the ‘fire era’ or variants of that and I’m digging it icl it sounds AMAZING. The theme is- obviously- mostly red but I’m guessing its red+black. Funny thing is, there’s a few MASSIVE ties to their other album Trench (my favourite, which we will get into) and the trench theme was yellow+black. Yellow (in the lore so far) has always been a sign of the good guys or the banditos if you like to name them, and red has always been the bad guys (Dema, blurry face/nico, the bishops etc). The contrast is FABULOUS.

2) Release date.

So BBC radio 1 has leaked that they will be playing ‘the new hottest record’ from said album on the 29th of February 2024 at 6pm English time. Obviously this means that it will release the same day, being two days away from the making of this post (I am going FERAL.)

3) Details

Sadly I have no details along the lines of album title, song titles, how many songs are on it etc, but I think it’s only going to make the first listen better imo.

4) Trench links

There are a few main links, one of them being in the actual music as Paulmeany, who had a VERY big influence on the sound and contents of trench, posted a mildly cryptic photo on Instagram not too long ago.

As we can see, the people’s eyes in the photo are covered up with red (tape) which has already been seen in the teasers leading up to release covering the eyes of those on the main album covers. This is an obvious hint that he’s come back to collaborate with TØP for this new album, and also that it may sound as if ‘returning to trench’. This is important for reasons in my next point.

Aside from the tape, the letters, and the social media changes, the big way we found out a new album was on the way was through the Instagram video. This video basically gave us a run down on all of the lore up until now, confirmed that Tyler is Clancy, and also mentions at the very end that Clancy (the main character of the lore) will be ‘returning to trench’. This is said in the last few seconds of the video where he states:

“I am a citizen. I am an escapee. I am an exception. I am returning to trench. I am Clancy.”

This. Is. MASSIVE. I’ll leave the link to the video at the end of the post so you can see why, but mostly it’s that this is likely to lead to a massive showdown/rebellion and a huge turning point in the lore. This could literally go any which way and I- like every other fan- am hyped beyond words. (Get it? The Hype is a song in Trench hehe)

That’s all I have to say at the moment, but as soon as I find out more you already KNOW I’ll be posting about it for days.

My favorite poem is Antigonish by Hughes Mearns! It’s featured in the Magnus Archives and it is lodged in my brain forever. I’ll probably make it its own dedicated post but it talks about a man who isn’t there, with the writer wishing that the man who isn’t there would go away. It’s a lovely little poem and especially as someone whose psychosis manifests primarily as delusions, I simply Vibe with a poem about something you know isn’t there but terrorizes you anyways.

And yeah! I have taste -> color synesthesia!! For the first 10 or so years of my life I thought you could teach colors to (color)blind people using foods. It’s kind of a weird thing to try and talk about because really the main way I know that my experience of the world is different from most people’s is that language just not built for the way I experience taste. I’ve thought of trying to do some sort of art based on my synesthesia but ive never been able to figure out exactly how since it’s really difficult for me to separate taste and the colors. I also experience ‘shrimp colors’ that don’t exist in a way humans can visually experience. Like orange and green at the same time, but not grey or speckled; the color simply does not exist.

There’s also almost no correlation between visualcolors and tastecolors. Por ejemplo, carrots (orange food) taste like a desaturated forest green. The only real trends are that the more artificial a food is, the more likely it is to match color wise; and that water will lighten and desaturate things.

Also it’s difficult for me to sort of quantify since I have no other frame of reference, but it does have a lot of effects on my life. Since color tends to overwhelm any ‘normal taste’, that’s what most of my favorite (and least favorite) foods are based on. I dislike carrots because it’s unpredictable whether they’re green or brown and I don’t like that neither of those are orange. My two favorite foods are grape koolaid (it’s so purple and I like purple; I also never water it down because then it’s Purple and I can also taste sour) and salt & vinegar chips (the vinegar covers any colors).

Water is always white or a very very light grey. This does affect what water I will drink because I avoid drinking water that’s sort of tinted warm colors. Doesn’t vibe right.

And the way I describe foods is almost always color based, since that’s the main way I experience it. This has deeply confused and mildly frustrated anyone trying to learn anything applicable to their own experience of food. I have no idea what other people taste, especially since colors tend to overshadow anything else. I’m pretty sure I experience spiciness and saltiness normally though.

And as mentioned earlier, it seriously impacts my sensory issues. Tastes are doubled (I guess?) and any after taste lingers for ages. If the water im drinking is significantly tinted it builds up in my mouth and is Bad (I had to pause writing this to refill my water bottle with my house filtered water instead of the water fountain from my school since that water is reddish and my water is only very faintly teal). Also since all taste is doubled-ish I am basically always aware of the fact that my mouth has a taste and a color. Which kinda sucks.

Also I think this is an adhd thing but I have a hard time describing colors unless I’m actively tasting something because I have a word based brain and the colors are something that completely upends the English language’s way of describing the senses. That’s sort of why I always describe it as being a one way link and say “taste to color synesthesia” rather than “taste color synesthesia”, because I don’t taste anything when I see colors, I just experience colors when I taste something. I think if it went both ways I would be a very different person and would likely have meltdowns much more often but that’s pure speculation.

I thiiiink that’s everything I can think of right now, but yeah! Synesthesia! I think I heard the word about four-ish years ago now and literally nothing has clicked for me faster than that did. It took me less time to start identifying with synesthesia than it did for me to identify with any lgbtq+ label. Every time I think about the fact that ‘tasting colors’ is something that people say to mean they’re loopy or high or something and not that they can literally taste colors I have to do a double take. It’s such a seemingly tiny little thing but it’s so fundamental to my experience of the world that I cannot even imagine anything different. What does koolaid taste like if not Color? I don’t know, because all I can taste is Color.

luck reveals that the reason victoria no longer speaks to him is because he ran away after stealing and pawning all of her jewellery including extremely sentimental inherited pieces. merit uses this as once again a reason to hate victoria for being the stepmom: “Funny how Victoria needs apologies from people, but she’s never once apologized to any of us for tearing out family apart.”

And although is entirely a thing for fourth year, my profs have already advised us that we should start thinking about topics and themes to write our thesis about

if you've done a thesis, how did you choose the topic you wanted to write about?

also if you have tips to spare, i'd love to know them, cause it's making me pretty anxious and rationally I know it's not a problem for Present Me, but I get nervous nonetheless

You do a degree in psychology right? I don’t know how that would differ from mine but I asked around and here’s how it works:

Because I did a biomed degree we also had lab based thesis options which is what I went for as the practical experience was great for my masters application. I had quiet a few friends go for essay only projects and here what they did to prepare:

Read - every time, always, look at new research in your field, new studies, explore areas that you covered in lectures that caught your eye and see if there’s still more to discover - there always is

Personal experience - as with most science degrees / healthcare related degrees there’s always some kind of personal element you can link there, my friend wanted to research MS since someone in her family had it etc

Are you planning on further study in a specific field? I knew I wanted to do research in immunology so I went for the project most closely related to it so I could use that as an opportunity to research it more

Brainstorm - if you have several or few ideas make a brainstorm and just write what you know / don’t about each one, you may find that one of these topics leaves you with interesting questions you might want to pursue

Speak to your professors!!! Your professors are experts in their fields, talk to them about ideas that you’ve come up with, if they think there’s enough research out there for you to get good info for your project etc

Speak to your friends - you’ve all studied the same thing for years now, bounce ideas off of each other

Your notes - go back and look at what you’ve learnt. Where are the question marks in the research? Which of these experiments should have had more variables? How would a new demographic change the results you have?

Read read read read read read read read - you don’t have to read the whole article, the opening abstract will be enough to start sparking some ideas

Remember, your thesis isn’t about the results and data you gain, it’s about showing the professors that you are capable of evaluating large sums of information, selecting what is relevant, and drawing logical conclusions from what you’ve read.

Have fun with it, it’s a big project and you’re going to spend a lot of time on it. Make sure your final topic is interesting to you (absolutely does not matter if everyone else thinks it’s boring, this is for you) and make sure you understand at least a few foundational concepts for it. You’re already thinking about it pretty early on so you have plenty of time to bounce around ideas, and never be afraid to run it past your professors for advice, it’s what they get paid for!!

Fuck I HATE Having to take care of myself. Sometimes I wanna stay with the homies but I really gotta give my body and mind time lest I burn out. I know this. It gets irritating when things with my stomach shouldn’t even be happening. I’m starting to consider another doctor attempt but this time I’d have to invest in a specialist which will be a lot of money I’m sure. Maybe it’ll be worth it but maybe not. I could keep trying to figure out what it is on my own.

Im trying not to give it too much attention because I feel like it fuels my anxious behavior, but I did good dealing with my tummy tonight. It helped that I didn’t feel nauseas, just the ache of something trying to go through me. Its annoying that sometimes I’m at about 70% for no reason. Just let me feel good PLEASE. At least I should start feeling better in the coming days if this really is a sort of cycle. It feels like every night is rough like tonight but some nights are actually okay. I just tend to forget about them because they’re so average.

I want to do recount my day daily because I often lose track of myself and what I do. I noticed this was a problem when people ask me what I did today and I can’t remember because it all blends together. Or maybe it could have to do with my anxious thoughts. Thats a scary thought that just occurred to me. I already know if I’m distracted by anxiety I can catch myself going into a sort of autopilot and making a lot of mistakes during certain tasks. That might be happening on a larger scale in the sense that anxiety idly plagues my mind to the point that I’m not being present enough to remember things without actively trying to. Like, instead of looking back on the day based on what I’ve done, I look back on it based on how scared I felt. It covers everything. 

This morning was normal. My friend actually called me trying to catch me on the toilet which he hasn’t been doing. Normally I like to wait until after I use the bathroom or eat breakfast to start working but it was taking awhile so I started on work early. Today was an easy work day too because the commission I worked on tipped so well that I was able to spread it across 4 days instead of 3 so it was already nearly done. 

For breakfast I had hash browns with onions and sausage links. I remember being sketched out by the hash browns because they came from my mom’s store and were smelling kinda weird when I put them in the pan. But I refused to give in to that. They were dehydrated hash browns so they had to be okay. I ate them and they were delicious. It wasn’t as big of a calorie meal as I hoped so I also had a toaster strudel to make it a decent meal size. I watched the Goofy Movie with my bestie while I made/ate it, I liked that. 

Work went well. I chilled in call with my friend while I finished the commission and dicked around after that. 

My workout today was brutal. I’ve been neglecting squats for awhile in favor of just doing my treadmill so I went hard with squatting. I did 2 sets of 20 squats, sumo squats, and lunges, 120 reps total with an extra 25 pounds of weight on me. Then half my usual treadmill time after that. It KILLED my legs. 

I had slacked with drawing time today so my afternoon was spent working on some things and then playing a little Rec Room before people got on. 

I played Rec Room and VRchat with my bestiiiieeeeee. Rec Room was kind of irritating because there was this absolute sweaty ass on the other team of a Paintball game. He was VERY good at being a shithead but I’m usually very good about not getting bothered by people like that. I was more bothered by how I had a hard time putting up with him. He was good enough at trolling that I couldn’t respond in ANY way without fueling him, even by playing along. And ignoring him too obviously wouldn’t have worked either.

Tonight I decided to hop off and relax a little bit. I wanted to hang out more but I know this time to myself will do me a lot of good. It’s EXTREMELY nice to sit down with something cozy with nothing to look forward to except bedtime. The problem is I don’t always feel like I deserve it so it can be hard to enjoy this time. I feel good about it tonight, I was productive enough today and have plenty of more challenges ahead to rest up for. It also help that I had reassurance from my friend that I should be taking care of myself. It feels too common in the past that I would be treated like I’m ditching when I really just NEED to rest.

disability in the Six Of Crows Duology; an analysis of Kaz Brekker, Wylan Van Eck, and the fandom’s treatment of them.

****Note: I originally wrote this for a tiktok series, which im still going to do, but i wanted to post here as well bc tumblr is major contributor to what im going to talk about

CW: ableism, filicide, abuse

In the Six of Crows duology, Leigh Bardugo delicately subverts and melds harmful disability tropes into her narrative, unpacking them in a way that I, as a disabled person, found immensely refreshing and…. just brilliant. 

But what did you all do with that? Well, you fucked it up. Instead of critically looking at the characters, y’all just chose to be ableist. 

For the next few videos paragraphs im going to unpack disability theory (largely the stuff surrounding media, for obvious reasons) and how it relates to Six Of Crows and the characterization of Kaz Brekker and Wylan Van Eck, then how, despite their brilliant writing, y’all completely overlooked the actual text and continuously revert them to ableist cariactures.

Disclaimer: 1. Shocker - i am disabled. I have also extensively researched disability theory and am very active in the disabled community. Basically, I know my shit. 2. im going to be mad in these videos this analysis. Because the way y’all have been acting has been going on for a long ass time and im fuckin sick of it. I don’t give a shit about non-disabled feelings, die mad

Firstly, I’m going to discuss Kaz, his play on the stereotypical “mean cripple” trope and how Bardugo subverts it, his cane, and disabled rage. Then, I am going to discuss Wylan, the “inspiration porn” stereotype, caregivers / parents, and the social model of disability. Finally, I will then explain the problems in the fandom from my perspective as a disabled person, largely when it comes to wylan, bc yall cant leave that boy tf alone.

Kaz Brekker

Think of a character who uses a cane (obviously not Kaz). Now, are they evil, dubiously moral, or just an asshole in general? Because nearly example I can think of is: whether it be Lots’O from Toy Story, Lucius Malfoy, or even Scrooge and Mr.Gold from Once Upon A Time all have canes (the last two even having their canes appear less and less as they become better people)

The mean/evil cripple trope is far more common than you would think. Villains with different bodies are confined to the role of “evil”. To quote TV Tropes, who I think did a brilliant job on explaining it “The first is rooted in eugenics-based ideas linking disability or other physical deformities with a "natural" predisposition towards madness, criminality, vice, etc. The Rule of Symbolism is often at work here, since a "crippled" body can be used to represent a "crippled" soul — and indeed, a disabled villain is usually put in contrast to a morally upright and physically "perfect" hero. Whether consciously on the part of the writer or not, this can reinforce cultural ideas of disability making a person inherently inferior or negative, much in the same way the Sissy Villain or Depraved Homosexual trope associate sexual and gender nonconformity with evil. ”

Our introduction to Kaz affirms this notion of him being bad or morally bankrupt, with “Kaz Brekker didn’t need a reason”, etc. This mythologized version of himself, the “bastard of the barrel” actively fed into this misconception. But, as we the audience are privy to his inner thoughts, know that he is just a teenager like every other Crow. He is complex, his disability isn’t this tragic backstory, he just fell off a roof. It’s not his main motivation, nor does he curse revenge for making him a cripple - it is just another part of who he is. 

His cane (though the shows version fills me with rage but-) is an extension of Kaz - he fights with it, but it has a purpose. Another common thing in media is for canes to be simply accessories, but while Kaz’ cane is fashionable, it has purpose.

The quote “There was no part of him that was not broken, that had not healed wrong and there was no part of him that was not stronger for having been broken.” is so fucking powerful. Kaz does not want nor need a cure - its said in Crooked Kingdom that his leg could most likely be healed, but he chooses not to. Abled-bodied people tend to dismiss this thought as Kaz being stubborn but it shows a reality of acceptance of his disability that is just, so refreshing.

In chapter 22 of SOC, we see disabled rage done right - when he is called a cripple by the Fjerdan inmate, Kaz is pissed - the important detail being that he is pissed at the Fjerdan, at society for ableism, not blaming it on being disabled or wishing he could be normal. He takes action, dislocating the asshole’s shoulder and proving to him, and to a lesser extent, himself, that he is just as capable as anyone else, not in spite of, but because he is disabled. And that is the point of Kaz, harking back to the line that “there was no part of him that was not stronger for having been broken”. 

I cried on numerous occasions while reading the SOC duology, but the parts I highlighted in this section especially so. I, as many other disabled people do, have had a long and tumultuous relationship with our disability/es, and for many still struggle. But Kaz Brekker gave me an empowered disabled character who accepts themselves, and that means the world to me. 

Keeping that in mind, I hope you can understand why it hurts so much to disabled people when you either erase Kaz’s disability (whether through cosplay or fanfiction), or portray him as a “broken boy uwu”, especially implying that he would want a cure. That flies in the face of canon and is inherently fucking ableist. (if u think im mad wait until the next section)

Next, we have Wylan.  

Oh fucking boy. 

I love Wylan so fucking much, and y’all just do not seem to understand his character? Like at all? Since this is disability-centric, I’m not going to discuss how the intersection of his queerness also contributes to these issues, but trust me when I say it’s a contributing factor to what i'm going to say.

Wylan, motherfucking Van Eck. If you ableist pricks don’t take ur fucking hands off him right now im going to fight you. I see Wylan as a subversion another, and in my opinion more insidious stereotype pf disabled people - inspiration porn.

Cara Liebowitz in a 2015 article on the blog The Body Is Not An Apology explains in greater detail how inspiration porn is impactful in real life, but media is a major contributing factor to this reality. The technical definition is “the portrayal of people with disabilities as inspirational solely or in part on the basis of their disability” - but that does not cover it fully. 

Inspiration porn does lasting damage on the disabled community as it implies that disability is a negative that you need to “overcome” or “triumph” instead of something one can feel proud of. It exploits disabled people for the development of non-disabled people, and in media often the white male protagonist. Framing disability as inherently negative perpetuates ideals of eugenics and cures - see Autism $peaks’ “I Am Autism” ad. Inspiration porn is also incredibly patronizing as it implies that we cannot take care of ourselves, or do things like non-disabled people do. Because i stg some of you tend to think that we just sit around all day wishing we weren’t disabled. 

Another important theory ideal that is necessary when thinking about Wylan is the experience of feeling like a burden simply for needing help or accommodations. This is especially true when it comes to familial relationships, and internalized ableism.

The rhetoric that Wylan’s father drilled into his head, that he is “defective”, ���a mistake”, and “needs to be corrected”, that he (Jan) was “cursed with a moron for a child” is a long held belief that disabled people hear relentlessly. And while many see Van Eck’s attempted murder of Wylan as “preposturous” and overall something that you would never think happens today - filicide (a parent murdering their child) is more common than you would like to believe. Without even mentioning the countless and often unreported deaths of disabled people due to lack of / insufficient / neglectful medical care, in a study on children who died from the result of household abuse, 40 of 42 of them (95%) were diagnosed with disabilities. Van Eck is not some caricature of ableist ideals - he is a real reflection on how many people and family members view disability. 

Circling back to how Wylan unpacks the inspiration porn trope - he is 3 dimensional, he is not only used to develop the other characters, he is just *chefs kiss* Leigh, imo, put so much love and care into the creation of Wylan and his story and character growth that is representative of a larger feeling in the disabled community. 

That being said, what you non-disabled motherfuckers have done to him.

The “haha Wylan can’t read” jokes aren’t and were not funny. Y’all literally boiled down everything Wylan is to him being dyslexic. And it’s like,,,, the only thing you can say about him. You ignore every other part of him other than his disability, and then mock him for it. There’s so much you can say about Wylan - simping for Jesper, being band kid and playing the fuckin flute, literally anything else. But no, you just chose to mock his disability, excellent fucking job!

Next up on “ableds stfu” - infantilization! y’all are so fucking condescending to Wylan, and treat him like a fucking toddler. And while partly it is due to his sexuality i think a larger portion is him being disabled. Its in the same vein of people who think that Wylan and Jesper are romantically one sided, and that Jesper only kind of liked Wylan, despite the canon evidence of him loving Wylan just as much. You all view him as a “smol bean”, who needs protecting, and care, when Wylan is the opposite of that. He is a fucking demolitions expert who suggested waking up sleeping men to kill them - what about that says “uwu”. You are treating Wylan as a burden to Jesper and the other Crows when he is an immensely valuable, fully autonomous disabled person - you all just view him as damaged. 

And before I get a comment saying that “uhhh Wylan isn’t real why do you care” while Wylan may not be real, how you all view him and treat him has real fucking impacts and informs how you treat people like me. If someone called me an “uwu baby boy” they’d get a fist square in the fucking jaw. Fiction informs how we perceive the world and y’all are making it super fucking clear how you see disabled people. 

Finally, I wanted to talk about how the social model of disability is portrayed through Wylan. For those who are unaware, the social model of disability contrasts the medical model, that views the disability itself as the problem, that needs to be cured, whereas the social model essentially boils down to creating an accommodating society, where disability acceptance and pride is the goal. And we see this with Wylan - he is able to manage his father’s estate, with Jesper’s assistance to help him read documents. And this is not out of pity or charity, but an act of love. It is not portrayed as this almighty act for Jesper to play saviour, just a given, which is incredibly important to show, especially for someone who has been abused by family for his disability like Wylan, that he is accepted. 

Yet, I still see people hold up Jesper on a pedestal for “putting up with” Wylan, as if loving a disabled person deserves a fucking pat on the back. It’s genuinely exhausting trying to engage with a work I love so much with a fandom that thinks so little of me and my community. It fucking shows. 

Overall, Leigh Bardugo as a disabled person wrote two incredibly meticulous and empowered disabled characters, and due to either lack of reading comprehension, ableism, or a quirky mix of both, the fandom has ignored canon and the experiences of disabled people for…. shits and giggles i guess. And yes, there are issues with the Grishaverse and disability representation - while I haven’t finished them yet so I do not have an opinion on it, people have been discussing issues in the KOS duology with ableist ideals. This mini series was no way indicative of the entire disabled experience, nor does it represent my entire view on the representation as a whole. These things need to be met critically in our community, and talked about with disabled voices at the forefront. For example, the limited perspective we get of Wylan and Kaz being both white men, does not account for a large portion of the disabled community and the intersection of multiple identities.

All-in-all, Critique media, but do not forget to also critique fandom spaces. Alternatively, just shut the fuck up :)

Chrollo Lucilfer had finally arrived up to the Prime Minister's extravagant bedroom, standing in front of the door and eyeing the browning blood splattered all over the floor with distaste. Carefully, he stepped over the body and head of the cadaverous corpse and eventually took his place beside you, looking down to face you. "You said that he touched you- that is why you killed him?"

"Yes, that's right... should I have refrained?" you queried cautiously, not meeting Chrollo's gaze, instead staring disdainfully at your bloodied dress.

Chrollo remained silent for a few seconds before answering. "No- I suppose we had no use for him; he'd already given up the location of his artifacts. Besides... I'm not sure that I'm very fond of the idea of him with his hands all over you..." Chrollo's jaw tightened ever so slightly as he folded his arms across his chest, staring at the floor with contempt.

You glanced up at your boss, a little caught off guard by his expression. It wasn't like he seemed outraged- but there was certainly something a bit off about his reaction. Since when did Chrollo care about anyone touching you? Usually it was anything for the mission- but now he seemed... displeased as he eyed the corpse before him dubiously. It was strange- there had been many times on missions where Troupe women had had to sleep with or seduce targets, but Chrollo had never seemed bothered by it when Machi or Pakunoda did it. Why were you suddenly an issue?

Opting to put the matter aside, you shrugged dismissively. "What matters is that we know where the treasures are- have the other Spiders been sent down to the chapel already?"

Chrollo seemed to snap out of his daze, abruptly lifting his head back up to look back at you. "Oh- yes, they were dispatched around fifteen minutes ago. They should be alright- a few guards shouldn't be a problem for them at all."

You were even more confused now, furrowing your brow. "Aren't we going to go join them?"

Chrollo's perpetually pensive gaze seemed to intensify as he looked you directly in the eyes, and suddenly you were overly conscious of the fact that your dress was still totally unzipped, leaving your Spider tattoo and much of your bare waist and back visible. Feeling a little embarrassed at being half-naked in front of your boss, you dropped your gaze to your heels, completely blood-soaked as well.

"Why would we? Retrieving a few artifacts should not be a difficult task for them- if they do happen to need us, they'll contact us."

"Oh. Uh- alright." You didn't know what else to say, pulling at your fingertips awkwardly before deciding to reach behind you to try and zip up your dress to escape from the tension. However, the angle you were positioned in stopped your arms from bending far enough to reach your zipper.

Oh, great.

"B- Chrollo, would you mind helping me redress?" you queried reluctantly, a bit mortified to have to ask the man to help you dress. "I'm sorry- I hope I didn't off-put you with my dress unzipped like that." You got to your feet, moving toward Chrollo with your eyes still fixed on the floor.

"As a matter of fact, I do mind." Chrollo replied, gazing down at you with an unreadable expression on his face.

You blinked hard before immediately defaulting to apologizing profusely, trying to correct yourself. Obviously he'd be uncomfortable- that was weird! It was weird to have your superior put your clothes back on. You shouldn't even have asked.

"You do? I apologize, I really should have known that wouldn't be proper. I'll get it myself-"

"Why would you want to cover up such beautiful skin?"

You froze- as in, you came to a complete dead stop.

What did your boss just say to you?

"I- huh?" was all you could manage to blurt. Had you heard Chrollo right? What was going on?

When Chrollo didn't respond immediately, you decided that the remark had just been your ears playing suspiciously realistic pranks on you. You blinked and wrinkled your nose, baffled, before realizing that you were still standing awkwardly in front of Chrollo, your dress still unzipped, and you immediately dropped your eyes to the ground.

"I see you're a little perplexed," Chrollo began suddenly, making you jerk your head back up in surprise. So you hadn't been hearing things- he'd actually told you that you had beautiful skin. Now you felt totally discombobulated- Chrollo wasn't making any sense. Not knowing what to say, you opted to simply stay silent as he continued, his voice calm and even as usual despite the uncharacteristically... personal words that were coming out of his mouth.

"Don't look so bewildered, Y/N." Chrollo smiled, a warm gesture with a hint of cockiness, and you couldn't believe he was acting so nonchalant. He tilted his head at you with a pitifully smug look on his face, his hair dropping down his head to cover his bandage.

It was getting ridiculously difficult to hide the hot blush spreading across your cheeks, but not wanting to sacrifice your dignity, you stared Chrollo in the eyes defiantly, crossing your arms across your chest, most of your upper body with the exception of your breasts still exposed.

"Well- are you enjoying the view, Chrollo?" you asked bluntly and a little peevishly, at a loss for anything else; his expression changed into one of surprise at your words.

The second the question left your mouth, you cringed internally, cursing yourself for saying something like that to your boss. He could say what he wanted- but you couldn't. You felt like an absolute mess- why did Chrollo even feel the need to compliment you to begin with? You were never going to recover from this.

But you were rather caught off guard when Chrollo responded with: "As a matter of fact, I believe I am."

Without thinking, you let out a quick disgruntled exhale- now you'd never be able to regain your composure. Unable to come up with anything flirtatious and still quite confused, you made a lame attempt to maneuver your way out of the situation using reason, taking several steps back from the man to make yourself seem more disinterested than you admittedly actually were. "Chrollo, all I do is work for you. There's just no way we can-"

You knew it was a weaker protest than you'd hoped it to be when Chrollo interrupted you with an audible chuckle before fixing you with a stare that made your knees wobble a little. Still, you held his tranquil but mischievous gaze the best you could.

"Y/N," Chrollo murmured, almost whispered- "I don't want to hear your excuses. Come here."

Okay, so he definitely saw straight through your facade. Great- at the very least, you hoped he couldn't sense your growing arousal, the moisture pooling in between your legs. It would be humiliating if he found out you were already turned on.

A little warily, you walked back towards him, your dress halfway down your shoulders and barely covering your chest anymore. What was he doing? Was he displeased with you?

Your questions were answered when Chrollo took your chin in his hands delicately and pressed your lips gently to his, and instinctively you lifted your own arm and wrapped a hand around the wrist that had your chin. Chrollo seemed to sense that you were on edge, however, and wrapped his other arm around your waist firmly, as if to protect you from some unseen danger. The gesture did help your body relax some, and it was just after you closed your eyes as well that Chrollo pulled away.

"Chrollo, why-?"

Chrollo held up a hand to stop you mid-sentence, already knowing what you would ask him. "Ah- it's a little hard to pinpoint just when I began to feel something for you, I'm afraid. But as for why?"

You stood there expectantly, still a little dazed from Chrollo's tender kiss, waiting for him to tell you what had drawn him to you.

"I'm afraid I can't tell you exactly what it was." Chrollo's stare suddenly intensified, and he leaned down to kiss you again, unexpectedly; this time you did not stiffen.

You were quiet for a little while. "Well... I suppose I can't say I don't feel the same way... but what about the others? Of course, right now we still have a mission to carry out, and I'm sure the other spiders are waiting for us. And not just now- if we try to go anywhere with this, what would it do to the Troupe's dynamic?" The initial euphoria of Chrollo's kiss had faded away and doubt began to set in. "Perhaps this isn't the best idea- there's just so much to consider-"

"Didn't I say I didn't want to hear any more excuses, Y/N?" Chrollo cut you off, his expression somewhat goading with an eyebrow raised. "If anybody has anything to say about this, I'll deal with it myself. Do you understand?" His tone was firm and authoritative, and it put you a little back on edge.

When you didn't respond, Chrollo took it as to mean that you agreed. "Why don't you calm down, my dear- nobody will harm you. I only want to please you."

You still weren't that convinced- this all felt quite sudden and you weren't sure how to process it. The words were sweet and they seemed sincere- but what was really behind them? Dubious, you remained silent.

"God, you're stubborn," Chrollo muttered, and you turned to him in shock- but you barely had time to process the remark before you felt Chrollo's arm slip around your waist and your body being pushed back until you were at the foot of the bed- and once you were there, you toppled over, Chrollo forcing your back down onto the bed.

"Chrollo-" you gasped, but he cut you off with a passionate kiss, one that made you glad you were already laying down- and without thinking, you kissed him back as his hands made their way to the loose straps of your dress and slid them down your arms; you made no move to stop him.

"Don't worry," Chrollo promised, voice breathless but level as always. "As I said- I only want to please you."

You were a pretty small streamer, averaging about 1k viewers per stream. You couldn't complain, your fan base was super sweet and to you it was less about fame and more about doing what you love.

Before you could start, you made sure to turn on your signature pink lights, and grabbing a water bottle to make sure you don't get dehydrated during stream.

As the stream starts, you wave at your camera. "Hi chat!! How are we tonight?"

You smiled, pulling up Minecraft.

You open up your minecraft world, greeting your dogs and heading to to mine. You thank fitters, answer a few questions about college, basic stuff. After a while of answering questions, the chat gets pretty slow.

But then all of a sudden, everyone starts spamming. The chat moves at rapid speed, and you can't even see what they're saying.

"Uhhh chat are you guys good??"

So you open up streamlabs again and see...

Your face drops in disbelief, and you go to read chat again.

You quickly realize what just happened and quickly thank him, your hands covering your face as you're still just in utter disbelief.

"Guys wtf..." you stare in awe at the screen, then scrambling to get into discord, putting on your "switching games<3" screen for the stream.

You finally work up the courage to open his message.

Yes omg!! Thank you so much!!

After that, you're sent the link to the server.

You turn your screen on so that your chat can see.

Y/N has joined

You walk around a bit, still in utter shock that this is happening. You're personally seeing all of the landmarks you had watched in so many streams from your favorite MCYTs.

All of a sudden, someone joins your voice chat and runs up to you, starting to hit you. They look like dream, but have the Mexican flag and a small beard.

"WTF MANNNNN" the voice says, immediately recognizing that it's quackity.

"Quackity???" You say.

"Nooooo im Mexican dreammmmm man. You can call me MD"

"Okay MD.. where's dream?" You ask cautiously, not knowing what the figure could do next.

"AM I NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU MAN??"

He starts shouting in Spanish, and you giggle until you see the real dream sprinting up to MD, killing him with his netherite sword.

"Haha sorry about him... anyways hi!! Im dream, ill be your guide around the server!"

You smile at him, greeting him in return. As he takes you to a few landmarks, you meet plenty of people along the way. A young boy that seems to curse a lot, Tommy, and his quieter best friend tubbo. Tommy freaks out about something along the lines of a woman being added to the server.

Then you meet sapnap and george, dreams best friends. George is British, and sapnap makes a lot of sexual jokes to piss george off.

"Awwww now Y/N is gonna be dreams lover and not youuuuuu" sapnap teases.

You look at your chat for the first time in a while, and you've jumped to 10K viewers.

They all start spamming "Y/NWASTAKEN" and "💞💚" and you giggle.

After a while, you say goodbye to dream, george, and sapnap and eventually to your chat.

You can't even comprehend what just happened.

em graymoon’s guide to writing, formatting, and posting mcyt fanfiction

this covers everything from blog setup to the algorithm to making mutuals and more!

this will be in multiple steps and have as much info as i can think to include. feel free to rb or reply with any additional info! i’ve included reference posts by myself and some of my beloved mutuals <3

so you, dear reader. if you are interested in writing mcyt fanfiction, keep reading! its not hard, i promise.

a small disclaimer before i begin- none of this is for financial gain. you aren’t going to be paid. we all do this for fun. however, this doesn’t mean its okay for you to be harassed or have your writing stolen. writers are people, and we have lives.

step 1- make your blog

this is the simplest and most important step.

set up a theme however you want, fill out the bio, ect. if you already have a blog, you can use that! you’ll want to set up your pinned post with the following links (all of these are pretty optional except your masterlist)

references- x | x | x | x | x (dont steal peoples layouts)

a. masterlist- this contains all of your written works. mine are sorted by characters, but you can sort them other ways as well. you can find references here, here, and here from some of my mutuals

b. about me- self explanatory

c. requesting information (optional, only if your requests are open!) references: x | x | x | x

d. dni- self explanatory

you’ll want to set up all the links and such before you begin posting or writing.

(hot tip: requests are a great way to get ideas if you feel uninspired)

step two- actually write perhaps?

this is pretty easy if im honest so i’ll be including my best tips for writing here + what tends to be popular

1- do not feel pressured in any way to write or to meet a certain word count. this is supposed to be fun, don’t turn it into a task

2- pov, pov, pov. establish your pov from the start. you have three options; 1st [i, me, myself] (not very tumblr style, if you make x reader in 1st pov i’ll cry), 2nd [you, yours, yourself] (x reader is most commonly in this pov. its like 3rd but replace the pronouns with you), and 3rd [she/her, they/them, he/him, etc] (some x readers, mostly populated by character x character or other narrative style writing)

3- some characters do better on tumblr, some don’t. don’t look at the numbers too hard.

(hot tip: cc!dteam and cc!wibur fluff does the best.)

4- long fics or series need a plot layout. take my advice on this one. just lay out base events. thats it. it can be sarcastic, stupid, full of keysmashes, doesn’t matter. just get your base events down, and your brain will do the rest.

heres an example for a series im doing soon

like i said, doesn’t need to be perfect. it just needs to be.

5- headcannons are easy to make and easy to read (*cough cough you can get easy clout cough*)

6- make sure people know your requests are open (if you must, submit asks to yourself with whatever inspo you have and pretend it was an actual request)

7- make sure it follows boundaries (check @/smp-boundaries )

step 3- formatting

so here we are. you wrote. now we format.

a. images- some people add an image to the top of their posts, some dont. some use line breaks, some dont. whatever floats your boat. here are two line break images i use pretty often

just save them off the post and use them! credit to @sushisoot for the black one

(hot tip: look for macbook background images theyre usually a good size)

b. top of post information (aka: the hook- how will you draw potential reader’s attention?)

another thing you want to add is a readmore. if your work is longer than 0.3k words, its a necessity. add it after the first paragraph (so you can pull readers in)

c. add a readmore i beg you (mobile tutorial) desktop is with text formatting stuff

d. consistency. keep your formatting style the same from post to post

e. if you start a taglist, keep a post where you list all of the tags and paste it at the bottom of fics (typically you want a taglist for any series you start)

f. tagging. this is how you actually get your post where you want it

most people use a tagging system similar to this (x reader specific, its what i write. if any other writers want to tell me how they tag ill add it in!)

mcyt, mcyt fanfiction, mcyt x reader, mcyt x you, dream smp, dream smp fanfiction, dream smp x reader, dream smp x you, [character] x reader, [character] x you, [character] x gn/f/m!reader, cc/c/[au]!character x reader, cc/c/[au]!character x you, cc/c/[au]!character x gn/f/m!reader

and for headcannons, just use multiple character specific tags along with the base mcyt and dream smp x reader tags (keep in mind, only the first 20 tags work, the other 10 are just for organization)

if you cross tag (use unrelated tags to your writing) i will come break your kneecaps. don’t do it.

step 4- actually posting

you made it! time to share your story with the simps fandom!

if you want maximum exposure, 8pm - 1 am est is a good bet. you can take advantage of the scheduling feature to make sure posts go up when you want.

step 5- making mutuals

the social game is a strange one, but i have more mutuals than i can count, so allow me to give you some advice.

1- be nice! reach out in their ask box, say hello, introduce yourself, ect

2- check on them every day or so, be a good friend

3- ask questions, discuss mutual interests, basic relationship stuff

if you’re scared, go on anon! send asks and get to know someone under the guise of an emoji or word. i did!

step 6- bust the algorithm

now look. im not saying this is the most ethical. but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do

a. send yourself requests so people know you accept them

b. self reblogs. it boosts your fic to followers in other timezones

c. literally just. ask for reblogs. put a little message that says “reblogs appreciated” or “please consider reblogging” like the more polite youtubers do. (reblogs boost your work in tags and spread it to other people)

d. if you have a fic, dm it to me! i love to read other peoples work!
