Strawberry Flower - Namida ga Afureta (from Pikmin)

Namida Ga Afureta ("The Tears Overflowed") is a relatively rare piece of music that serves as the B-side of the single Ai no Uta by Strawberry Flower. While the lyrics to Ai no Uta focused primarily on the Pikmin and their conveyance of unconditional love toward Captain Olimar during his quest to return home, Namida Ga Afureta is phrased more from Olimar's perspective of the Pikmin as well as how he feels about them - which in turn seems difficult for him to express. This is an alien man's song about the plant people (Pikmin) from an earth-like planet (PNF-404) that are helping him return home. Captain Olimar crashlanded on the planet and can't breathe it's oxygen- but the Pikmin are helping him gather the pieces of his ship so he can go home.

404 is common digital code for something not being found, like how Captain Olimar can't find the words with which to tell the Pikmin that he loves them.

The Tears Overflowed can be a song by which you remember to try to convey your love- for those around you that help you feel found and for the Earth (and its plants) that helps you live- in however appropriate ways you can, while you can. This song can also be a song by which you remember that it's okay to cry and mourn.

Minecraft (Survival mode) is a game about surviving the night. Sweden is one of the tracks that suddenly plays after a long, random period of silence.

So to me, this track is like the dawn breaking after a hard night, like the sun leaving the clouds that were blocking you from seeing it. It is a song that gives me hope, a song that fuels my resilience; I have heard it countless times, and I will hear it countless more times.

Okay, I’m setting up a playlist in media player for music that I think would be either inspirational for solarpunk writing or would actually turn up in the setting. I don’t seem to have as much in my library as I’d like yet, so I figured I’d ask all the solarpunks here and see what ideas they have. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

That freak who wants Emily dead and thinks she’s married to Chester has me blocked so I can post whatever I want now thank the fucking lord 🙏

I've done tons of research on this topic and like… there is so much proof against Emily being in Scientology, people refuse to inform themselves outside of random articles or listen to people of the likes of Jamie Bennington, who is known for making up obvious vile lies about the band & who's own mother has a restraining order against him due to his crazy claims and stalkerish behaviour. Obviously we won't know anything until and unless Emily says something but I'm absolutely willing to bet she's either on her way out or has been out for a while.

If there’s anything wrong here please do feel free to correct me, I love learning about this topic.

For the things that still may qualify her being in the cult, other than her ~2013 & prior involvement from the gala (that brought awareness to this issue in the first place) the only CURRENT things I can think of are probably

1: her relationship with her mother--it doesn't necessarily mean she's in or out, but her mother is a higher up in the cult and therefore would probably want to provent her daughter leaving. Emily has discussed speaking to her mother as recently as September.

and 2: the other members of her band Dead Sara either are or have previously also been scientologists. again this doesn’t mean she hasn’t left, but it would explain why she wouldn’t speak out as it would make her into a suppressive person and have her immediately lose that connection if they are still inside of the cult.

As much as I wish she wouldn’t, I understand why she would still want to connect with her mother even if she isn’t in the cult anymore. And she can absolutely do that, but if she wants to speak out about it it’d mean leaving her mother and potentially her bandmates behind and becoming a suppressive person, which I doubt she would want to do. From what I can gather, she’s most likely left silently.

The only real proof of her ever being properly active in the cult at the time of me writing this, are from photos and other peoples retellings of her as a child (some of which explain just how uninterested she was IN actually being a scientologist), one completed task on her profile from 2007 & the latest being in 2013, when she went to a Scientology celebrity gala (probably the wrong name but i'm mind blanking) and there's been basically nothing since.

For the things against her being in the cult: For starters she has never promoted the cult. She's mentioned having a therapist in recent interviews and discusses mental health & anti religion SO much in her music. I don't think someone whose ideologies still line up with Scientology would have been as anti religion and pro mental health help as she is and has been. I believe a while after 2013, maybe roughly when 'Pleasure to Meet You' (Dead Sara’s 2nd full album) released?, is when her lyrics began getting more close to lyrics that a scientologist probably wouldn't write. Alongside this, since 2017, a few years after PTMY came out, fans have noticed changes in her attitude that make her seem a lot happier and less tired. I think this change is worth a mention, as the record that came out after 2017, Temporary Things Taking Up Space, is so lyrically against all of Scientology’s values it’s shocking a so called hardcore scientologist could even think to sing these songs.

Colin, Linkin Park’s drummer, has denied himself having any connections with the cult in a vague instagram comment, which isn't much but I do think if they want to stay quiet small instagram comments poking fun at people accusing them is a fine way to go about confirming anything. Mike spoke out about Scientology a year after he met her--which in most cases and discussions i've seen, would have a scientologist cut ties entirely with a person. She has associated with many people who have left the cult and spoken out about them, Mike being the most obvious example but Beck is a good one too. He left the cult many years ago and only spoke out about it years later due to fear of retaliation from the church. She’s also friends with Brian Bowen Smith who to my knowledge photographed Leah Remini for her book about Scientology.

Her being a lesbian also helps my case, but not by much because if anything it really depends on if she came out before she was in Dead Sara or not. They tend to allow famous people to be lgbtq without issue by the looks of things, but we aren't sure when she came out. Speaking of DS, they have performed at lots of events raising money and awareness for mental health including the charity Talinda Bennington (Chester's wife) set up after Chester passed away. Not really relevant but worth a mention, they’re also good friends with the band Badflower, who have songs that are very openly about mental health and abuse. I don’t see a scientologist being friends with someone like Josh Katz who can write and sing those words.

The people accusing her of being a hardcore scientologist (Cedric and his wife Chrissie? could be wrong about her name—also those shitty scientology youtubers who keep making videos on this subject that should really be dropped by now LMAO) are still yet to really show any proof she's still in other than claims which I don't think should be taken as 100% fact—none of this paragraph stuff should either but I think someone who’s been a LP fan for years and has always been very openly anti scientology may have a good outlook on the situation so this is my two cents.

hey, i know you asked this several days ago but for the song recommendations i just have to send chumbawamba's thubthumping and collier's march. i know the band is far from obscure, but to me the contrast between these two songs is always so striking! it's a bit amazing to me that it somehow still feels right that the same people made them, and i just like both very much :)

I obviously know tubthumping, a classic, so I started with Collier's March and WHAT DO YOU MEAN CHUMBAWUMBA DID UNACCOMPANIED MARCH SONGS WITH STRONG HARMONIES. WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE ALBUM IS CALLED ENGLISH REBEL SONGS 1381-1984. WHAT DO YOU MEAN.

I feel like I'm going insane in a good way. What a delightful surprise. What a genuinely shocking display of the full breadth of music. Because good lord, I hope I'm just as far ranging when I make music one day.

And then, as a treat, I get the party anthem of the early aughts'/late nineties as well???? Tubthumping is just such a joyful song, it reminds me of like. You know how there's that post that says Ska sounds like how eating mozzarella sticks feels, or something? This is how tv movie college parties feel/sound. If that makes sense. I actually just love it.

Tubthumping is also such a strange, completely unhinged song structurally too, which I feel is worth mentioning- it feels like 3 songs frankensteined together. There's Enya pissing the night away while Someone just. lists alcohols, and then everyone shout screams the chorus. We're talking about Danny Boy? As in the pipes, the pipes??? What a strange and wonderful song. With a brass solo!

5. Way Out There This is off MY personal favourite album of theirs, Strange Trails (which is also where The Night We Met comes from). Where Lord Huron really excel is lyricism, and this song has maybe my favourite example of it "I belong bodily to the Earth/I'm just wearing old bones of those who came first/I've been unravelling since my birth/Going to wander out there and see what I'm worth"

4. Ancient Names (Pt. 1 and Pt. 2) Strange Trails is their best album and probably the fan favourite but I maintain Vide Noir, their next album is probably their most cohesive. It's a dark and trippy album which teeters on the edge of insanity and the supernatural, and nothing really encompasses the album as well as Ancient Names. The narrator goes and gets their fortune told and is told they're "good as dead" because of someone (or something?) from their past coming for them.

3. The Ghost on the Shore Very much a change of pace from n3. This is from their first album Lonesome Dreams and more of their incredible phrasing is at play here. The narrator knows they're about to die the next day, but instead of explicitly saying those words they say "The tale that began on the night of my birth will be done in a turn of the Earth." It's a waltzing lullaby in 3/4 with a harmonica and a violin drifting in and out throughout and just such a beautiful and calm song.

2. The Yawning Grave/Frozen Pines I cheated and went with two songs in one. But they DO bleed into each other sonically on the album (The Yawning Grave first, Frozen Pines after) and both are such strong songs on their own. The narrator of The Yawning Grave is Death? Maybe? or at least some other big and ancient force that warns the listener "Oh you fool there are rules I am coming for you (you can run but you can't escape)/Darkness brings evil things oh the reckoning begins (you will open the yawning grave)". Great for all my cosmic horror fans out there/lovers of the "something in the woods trope". Frozen Pines on the other hand, is about alien abduction, even though neither of those words are ever mentioned in the song. A lover waits in "frozen pines" to see his lover again which vanished one night while a "strange light in the sky" shone. Lyricism on these two songs shines through STRONG and the bridge/ending of Frozen Pines is just transcendent.

1.Meet Me in the Woods It's not my FAVOURITE (TYG/FP my beloveds) but I have to put it n1. This should've been their big worldwide hit, not the Night We Met. Guaranteed to get one feeling like they want to run through the woods and maybe get slightly warped by some sort of cosmic horror.

🌌Dark Sun, as we all know, is very different from our Sun. He's cold, calm and very intelligent, unlike our Sun. Sun was built for taking care of children, and Dark Sun is a Sun model. He was also made for childcare, meaning despite his calm and cold exterior he's still pretty good with kids of all ages.

☀️He's a very busy animatronic, always working on something or other. Some of the things he does are very dangerous, far too dangerous for a kid. So, he'll leave you with Nexus. But when he can have you with him while he works? He'll carry you around, calmly showing you it all if you show any interest. You might not understand all of it, but his voice is pretty calming to listen to.

🌌He'll give you all of the affection you wish for, holding and hugging you as he gives you forehead kisses, telling you how you're so good, how you're just so precious and adorable. He's like a doting parent meeting their baby for the first time.

☀️You're so spoiled, he'll give you the world if you ask for it. A new toy? Wrapped up in pretty wrapping paper on your bed. Cuddles? You're in his arms already. Your own dimension? Yours <3

🌌He's not the best with playing pretend, doesn't really find the appeal, doesn't enjoy it. He's pretty okay with toys, though! If you're younger, think 0-3, and play with baby and toddler sensory toys, then you're in luck! He's good at playing with sensory toys with babies and toddlers.

☀️Bedtime with him is amazing. His voice is calming and soothes you, and every night he reads you a bedtime story of your choice. He'll dim the lights, turning on your nightlight if you need/have one, and giving you your stuffies, blankets, pacifier and so on. He has an entire bookshelf in your room filled with all of your favorite books. He also got you a CD player, alongside a bunch of CDs of kids songs. Think like the Sing-along song CD albums.

🌌He can try to change your diaper, but good lord that animatronic wouldn't be able to do so if his life depended on it. Same with feeding you baby food and stuff. If it's messy, he can't do it. Dark Sun has the same cleaning protocols in his systems as Sun does, leading to his home being perfectly cleaned and messes being a no-no. He won't punish you for making a mess, he understands that kids are usually pretty messy. It's not your fault, it's not worth punishment.

☀️He's great with kiddos that have disabilities and stuff. Always making sure everything is fitting to your needs. If you have chronic pain, then he'll have a heated blanket, your stuffies and a heating pad ready. You're a wheelchair user? He'll make sure every area is wheelchair accessible. You're prone to fainting? He'll help you with whatever you need, making sure to catch you if you do pass out.

🌌And of course he always has plenty of water, juice and snacks on hand. So if your blood sugar's low and you need something sugary? He's got something for you. You have POTS syndrome, or anything else that salt can help a bit? He's got something for you. You get the point by now.

☀️Great with kiddos that have autism, adhd, ect, too! If you're easily overstimulated in big crowds, then he'll either help you avoid them, or if they're unavoidable he'll make sure you have anything you might need and he'll be with you as much as he can. You struggle with doing everyday tasks? He'll help in any way he can. Once again, you get the point by now.

🌌Overall, he makes for a great caregiver!

The Romance of Flamenca is an anonymous novel of the 13th century written in old occitan.

The novel recounts the torments that Archambaut de Borbon inflicts on his wife, the young and beautiful Flamenca. The precautions taken by the jealous husband to isolate Flamenca from other men, lead to his punishment by provoking a love affair between the lady and the knight Guilhem de Nivers.

The Romance of Flamenca is the kind of story that Sansa Stark & GRRM would love.

The novel is hyper descriptive of all the heraldry and all the pageantry of the events that take place in the story: weddings, tournaments and feasts full of bards and troubadours, something that GRRM really loves.

The story is about courtly love with a radiant lady pursued by many suitors -a couple of kings included, a jealous malicious queen, a courtious lord husband that becomes a brute because of jealousy, then the radiant lady is locked in a tower, but there's a true knight on a quest to her rescue. Later, the lovers meet in hotsprings, and during the final tourney, that takes place in a meadow, the radiant lady wears the crown of beauty, but we don't know how the tourney ends . . . . (the only copy of the ancient manuscript is incomplete).

In addition to the similarities already mentioned, the two ladies that loyaly serve Flamenca are called Alis (Alys) and Margarida (Margaery), and there's also a Count of Brienne mentioned.

Rosalía's album 'El Mal Querer' was inspired by The Romance of Flamenca.

'El Mal Querer' can be traslated as 'Bad Love,' and that's precisely what Archambaut de Borbon gave Flamenca, a bad love, a toxic love, full of jealousy without motive, hence he was punished by Love itself that conspired to make Flamenca and Guilhem fall in love and consummate their passion.

One of my favorite lyrics from 'El Mal Querer' are from the song called 'A Ningún Hombre:'

Hasta que fuiste carcelero, you era tuya compañero, hasta que fuiste carcelero.

That can be trasnlated as:

Until you became my jailor, I was yours, partner; I was yours, until you became my jailor.

Finally, it's worth to mention that The Romance of Flamenca also has its own fanfiction called 'The story of Flamenca: the first modern novel, arranged from the Provençal original of the thirteenth century' by William Aspenwall Bradley, published in 1922, with the aim to give an end to the story of the fair Flamenca and her gallant Guilhem.

Last movie: Ummmmm. Probably Porco Rosso? I haven't had the mental energy to sit down and watch a movie for a while, but Porco Rosso is a comfort movie for me. Great vibes, dead fascists, and a plucky female deuteragonist. What more can a girl want?

Last show: Very Important People on Dropout. Vic Michaelis is fucking hilarious and season 2 has not lost any of the momentum of S1. Dropout is so worth the subscription, even if you're not into Dimension 20.

Last google search: I... I don't know? I haven't used Google Search in a long time. (I know this isnt technically what the question is but i wanna talk about search engines so whatever.) DuckDuckGo has been my daily driver search engine for years now, and it's honestly better than Google these days. "Downside" being that it doesn't save your search history, but IMO that's a point in its favor. I did realize this year that about half of my web searches were for Wikipedia articles, so I decided to cut out the middle man and just download the Wikipedia app, and I strongly recommend it. The built in search is excellent (my last search was "rover 216." Weird little British econobox built on a Honda platform).

Favorite color: Pink! Tragically underrepresented in my wardrobe compared to my toolbox and weed paraphernalia.

Relationship status: Single 🥺

so sorry it took so long for me to respond to this!!! at first i wanted to wait till i was able to make a pinterest board, but then i couldn't really find exactly what i wanted (but still made a board - here's the link!) so i decided i'd just describe it:

it’s a penthouse, and right now it’s veryyyy empty. they moved into it just before will’s next semester started so not much time to decorate!! they kept all like the basic furniture, so i do think they have a sort of living room connected to the kitchen - hold up, now i’m realizing i sorta based that layout off my uncles house. don’t know why i did that but!! we’re going with it. so they have two couches in the “living room” and a tv, leading to a kitchen with the generic appliances + a kitchen island - then i think that there’s a hallway with doors to one of the bathrooms, the guest room, and the studio, and then the master bedroom is also like. right across from the kitchen. if im even making any sense. i actually don’t know what a penthouse looks like so im just going off of pinterest vibes💯💯 anyway i think that eventually, they’ll also def have a lot of (fake) plants (bc lord knows they don’t actually have time to water and take care of plants), and LOTSS OF BLANKETS. i think that like almost every time they go to a target or smth to get smth they actually need, they walk out of the store with at least one blanket. they’re all over the couches, the beds, the chairs, idk why but i just want their apartment to be very very cozy :) aside from that, will 100% has his record collection moved to their room, with a few hanging from the living room- there’s definitely shelves of a bunch of awards or posters and things like that - A PHOTO WALL TOO!! definitely a photo wall. i also think that both nico and will are very messy, at least when they’re busy with something (and they always are) so every countertop and table and desk is filledddd with clutter. like so much. papers and textbooks and headphones and laptops they’re everywhere.

listened to a bunch of music tonight so here are just some thoughts (didn't proofread shit):

the boy is mine (remix) - ariana grande made musical history getting brandy and monica back in the studio together to release a remixed version of a song that has the same name as their timeless hit. i'll have to listen to it again but i did thoroughly enjoy it, SO much better than 'yes, and?' ft mariah which was just...oof. but yes. amazing. fantastic. ugh the brige??? so good like i got chills

phat butt - copied nicki's flow and cadence and still somehow sucked. how are you gonna rap about people "biting your flow" as you bite another bitch's flow??? it's not her worst song and it's significantly better than that shit show 'gimme a light' but it's still not on the level that ice spice fans will try to have you think it is. a skip for me

the girl, so confusing w lorde - lemme just say that brat is such a good album and both von dutch remix and this version of 'girl, so confusing' are SO good. charli def has a vision when she's getting these features. i'm not super familiar with lorde beyond royals but i really loved her part and i think it was just so good overall. i also just really like 'girl, so confusing' anyway, it's so catchy. will be going on my summer playlist

chanel no.5 - i have never prayed on someone's downfall harder than i have prayed on camila cabello's. i've said it before but her rebrand is just so incredibly inauthentic. her music sucks, she can't write for shit, and she needs to sue someone over her dye job. like i just HATE. HER. but about the song, BAD. lyrics suck just like 'i luv it' because camila cabello is not a hyperpop artists and doesn't know how to do it authentically which is why she's singing random phrases into the mic over a beat and calling it a day

If asked, Dean Winchester will call his car the perfect hunter's car.  Sure she drinks gas like water and doesn't do off-road, like, at all, and don't even ask about parking.  But the pros -- bench seats for emergency sleeping, trunk big enough for a small apartment's worth of gear, all sorts of nooks and crannies for hiding spare cash and ammo, surprisingly inconspicuous for her size and age, able to cruise at 70 for days -- far outweigh the cons as far as he's concerned.  Power, beauty, and able to bounce back from everything the job can possibly throw at them.  They're a matched set, Dean will tell you.

If asked, Sam Winchester will point out that the car sticks out like a bobcat at a dog show, the air conditioning barely works no matter how much Dean screws around with it, its zero-to-sixty can be measured in days, it eats brake pads like they're potato chips, and why in the hell hasn't Dean upgraded the suspension because he swears he can feel the car crying whenever it hits a pothole.  And with the amount of time they spend taking secondary highways, that's a lot of crying.

Most of his gripes get shot down with an annoyed glower and, "One word-- legroom."  And Sam will admit, Dean's got him there.  Getting stuck in Brady's Alfa Romeo Spyder had not exactly been the high point of his freshman year.

Questions about reliability will produce similarly opposed responses.  Dean will swear on any holy book you hand to him that Baby's a perfect lady, never breaks down, never strands him in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night.  Sam will make sure he's safely out of earshot and swear the damn thing's never completed a journey without going bang, ever, not once in the thirty-odd years he's been riding in it.

The truth of course is somewhere in the middle.  Dean's been working on Baby since he was old enough to hold a flashlight steady and he's brought her back from scrap and spare parts more than once.  But the flat fact of the matter is, the car's a blue-collar broad of a certain age who's lived hard.  She has . . . quirks.

Uhh there are many, but I think I'll go with La Dispute - The most beautiful bitter fruit because I love this song so much it's never loud enough for me, I want to feel it in my core and have it in my veins.

Usually pop-rock or pop punk songs cheer me up, cause they tend to be silly. Also a lot of Red Hot Chili Peppers music. I'm gonna go with Blink 182 - First Date. It gives me those preteen feelings, crushes, teen fails and is just so silly. (Extra answer would be Red Hot Chili Peppers - Can't stop).

That's a though one 🤔 so with this one I created a criterium: it has to be played often. If I don't listen to the song a lot, then obviously, it doesn't have the chance to bore me. Apparently, after some soul-searching in my playlists, it turned out that this is the only song, that I can't remember being like "ugh, skip" at any time. There is a few & I think I will link them all 😅 So songs in english, that evoke thoughts about life are:

Aerosmith - Dream on (for obvious reasons). I don't listen to it much tbh, but every time I do it's just... ugh. I think we all know and feel it.

Halsey - Darwinism - it's a new song, from 2024. Halsey wrote the album, which it is on, when she thought she will die, because of her illness. The whole album evokes the thoughts about mortality, that's the main there - what if I die? What will be left of me? She really thought she's gonna be dead soon, and that it's the last album she'll be able to make. But this song just gives me this feeling of being isolated, not really a human but something else, forced to live on earth. A lot of the things which I have been thinking about lately. "What if I'm just cosmic dust?".

And now time for the polish part of this answer, because there are some, very specific songs, that make me feel things about living how I do and where I do.

Dawid Podsiadło - Co mi Panie dasz (Męskie granie 2016). It's a cover, the original is a song by an old polish band Bajm. I choose this version just because I listen to it more often. It's a live recording from one of the biggest polish music festivals Męskie Granie. The singer is Dawid Podsiadło - the most popular male singer in Poland since idk how long, easily 10 years. I'm really sad, that there is not a version with the video avaiable anymore :( So why is it existential to me? Mostly because of the chours, which I will loosely translate as "Lord, what shall Thou give me in these uncertain times? Which words will cradle my soul [and] my future for the rest of these years? Some old rags, so that I could sit on my butt. And is it worth it or not; I pour strong vodka down my throat to ease my grief". It's about searching for meaning, it especially hits when you remember it was originally released in 1982, when Poland was still under communism.

Bitamina - Niech no tylko zakwitną jabłonie. Once again it's a cover of an old song (1964), modernized obviously. Originally it was a part of a musical spectacle written by a very famous polish poet (the spectacle, not the song). I can't really explain what it is about, just about life - good life, content life.

and now for the final punch - Sanah & Igor Herbut - Mamo tyś płakała. They wrote it as a duet right after Russian invasion on Ukraine. Needless to say anything more. Forever making me cry (especially Igor's voice) & reminds me of the feelings we (I) had at the time.

comfort book: Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion for sure, though i have been non-stop reading and re-reading Elif Batuman's Either/Or since it was released in 2022.

comfort anime: Cowboy Bebop (cool and interesting wow) and Haikyuu!! (quarantine mental illness)

comfort video game: Night in the Woods forever and ever. i also am a Disco Elysium player so... if anyone wants to talk about that with me, let me know.

comfort show: POSE. there's no contest at all, this could be the only thing i ever watch for the rest of my life and i would never complain.

comfort movie: Almost Famous or Skate Kitchen are both my babygirls for different reasons. i always leave them feeling like i need to become more cool and go out and do things with my friends.

comfort race: Brazil 2012!!! i rewatch it like every week and pretty much have the commentary memorized at this point. if you subscribe to F1 TV just to get access to the grand prix archive and only stream this race it's worth it imo.
