Strawberry Flower - Namida ga Afureta (from Pikmin)
Namida Ga Afureta ("The Tears Overflowed") is a relatively rare piece of music that serves as the B-side of the single Ai no Uta by Strawberry Flower. While the lyrics to Ai no Uta focused primarily on the Pikmin and their conveyance of unconditional love toward Captain Olimar during his quest to return home, Namida Ga Afureta is phrased more from Olimar's perspective of the Pikmin as well as how he feels about them - which in turn seems difficult for him to express. In this song, the sorrowful space captain deeply regrets never telling the Pikmin that he loved them before departing back to his home planet of Hocotate. [Pikmin Wiki / pikipedia]
[subtitle version, english cover over Japanese original, slowed with reverb, original]
This is an alien man's song about the plant people (Pikmin) from an earth-like planet (PNF-404) that are helping him return home. Captain Olimar crashlanded on the planet and can't breathe it's oxygen- but the Pikmin are helping him gather the pieces of his ship so he can go home.
404 is common digital code for something not being found, like how Captain Olimar can't find the words with which to tell the Pikmin that he loves them.
The Tears Overflowed can be a song by which you remember to try to convey your love- for those around you that help you feel found and for the Earth (and its plants) that helps you live- in however appropriate ways you can, while you can. This song can also be a song by which you remember that it's okay to cry and mourn.

C418- Sweden (Calm 3) - Minecraft
[original, Smooth Mcgroove cover]
Minecraft (Survival mode) is a game about surviving the night. Sweden is one of the tracks that suddenly plays after a long, random period of silence.
So to me, this track is like the dawn breaking after a hard night, like the sun leaving the clouds that were blocking you from seeing it. It is a song that gives me hope, a song that fuels my resilience; I have heard it countless times, and I will hear it countless more times.

The Line (& Waffle To The Left) - Dear Alice (Decommodified Edition - Solarpunk ambience with no ads) [link]
"The solarpunk-inspired 'Dear Alice' commercial produced by the animation company The Line for [Company] is one of the most beautiful depictions of an ecological future I had seen, except for one glaring thing: it was an advertisement for a dairy company, and my solarpunk vision doesn't have either of those things. Neither is compatible with the 'degrowth' economic model outlined by people like Jason Hickel, not with the ethic of an ecological society described by social ecologists like Murray Bookchin. In light of that fatal flaw I decided to paint out all of the branding and recreated the sound design so that solarpunks like myself can enjoy this beautiful world without having to invite the ugliness of capitalism into it. Enjoy!" - Waffle To The Left

Various Artists- Solarpunk : A Possible Future
[YouTube (invidious), BandCamp]
Solarpunk is a dream, is a speculation, a science fiction - yet, it's a possible future. It's not retrofuturism, but instead a vision of how can we get there, to a better world. It is in our power to change the way we live, to think different, to abolish any kind of domination between ourselves and above nature. We have all the means to build a new kind of society: compassionate, ecological, inclusive for all cultures and identities, decentralized and free of political manipulation. Hi-tech may and should co-exist with the biosphere and we have the most powerful source of energy for that - our Sun. Let it shine our way as we look into the future!

Solarpunk playlist
Okay, I’m setting up a playlist in media player for music that I think would be either inspirational for solarpunk writing or would actually turn up in the setting. I don’t seem to have as much in my library as I’d like yet, so I figured I’d ask all the solarpunks here and see what ideas they have. Here’s what I’ve got so far:
Justin Godfrey (or pretty much any hang drum music) The Mummer’s Dance - Loreena McKennitt Summon Wall and The Summoned One - Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy IX soundtrack) Still of the Night - Hiroki Kikuta (Seiken Densetsu 2/Secret of Mana soundtrack) Level Up - Vienna Teng God Is A DJ - Faithless Everlasting Love by Alisa and Blue Orb by Kahimi Karie (We Heart Katamari soundtrack) Sugar - Tonic
… yeah, not that much so far. Anyone else got any suggestions for other music? I could definitely do with more.
