I am honestly shocked (as a pretty unbiased party) at the GA’s reaction to the bucktommy breakup. I’d hedge a bet that Tim and co are too! I think they knew that bucktommy was fairly well received (by the general audience and not the loud minority) but i don’t think that they realised those same people who were so flippant about Buck’s prior love interests would keep caring to the extent they have. That people would care enough to express their disappointment in a rational manner - not resorting to name calling etc etc. I do wonder where they plan to go from here (or if they even have a plan) because the idea that Buck jumps back to sleeping around now or diving head first into another relationship eight seasons in…. is jarring and i do wonder how the GA will react to that after this week
I think you’ve brought up an important point re: the reaction to prior love interests, and the funny thing is Tim and his staff only have themselves to blame.
Everyone Buck has been with before Tommy has been a woman. Buck was, for all intents and purposes, perceived as straight. It’s not that difficult to get an audience on board with a hetero relationship, right?
Except the audience was able to bounce back from every breakup because the effort wasn’t there. In fact, I’d bet the relationship the audience cared about most was BuckAbby, but they can’t do anything about Connie only signing for the one season. (And just to cover all my bases, sure, you could say that "effort" was made with BuckTaylor given how much screen time they had, but the audience also had the entire half of 5B to prepare for a break up after the BuckLucy kissing scene!) Now here comes Tommy. He already has established relationships with members of the 118, relationships that have nothing to do with Buck. His first episode in s7 showed him helping the 118 not only rescue Bathena, but going behind people's backs to do it so nobody got in trouble. Episode four establishes that he has also made a friend in Eddie, which is a first for these love interests! If Tommy and Eddie can get along, this time might be different, right? After the kiss in Buck's loft, which the GA obviously didn't hate, they have a conversation after a disastrous date, about wanting to see where things go. Buck was happy. People were gonna like that. The wedding episode is, IMO, where Tim started to slip up. We didn't just see Buck bringing Tommy as his plus-one and introducing him to everybody. We saw Tommy show up to the hospital still in his firefighter gear after an emergency. We saw that he wanted to keep his promise to Buck to be there for the wedding, to show that he, too, was serious about seeing where the relationship could go. We saw Buck kiss him. In public. No shame, no regrets. We also saw their dinner scene in the finale. Not interrupted by Eddie's drama. We saw Tommy still being important enough to the story in 8x01 to be present for Christopher's "birthday party". And then we saw everything that came with 8x05. The fandom can take its victory lap and say "the writing was on the wall", but the general audience? All they saw were two men slowly (possibly) falling in love. Tommy was never actually portrayed as the wrong partner in canon. In fact, he was everything the previous weren't. Every single thing this fandom used as an excuse for why these relationships wouldn't work? Tommy was the anomaly. First responder? Check. Friendly with Eddie? Check. Forms some sort of relationship with Chris? Check. Makes Buck a priority? Check. Isn't sidelined for Buddie scenes? Check. Yep, maybe Tim really did do all those things so that when the breakup actually happened it would leave an impact. But how fucking obtuse do you (Tim) have to be to not realize just how important seeing Buck in a happy, healthy relationship - what little we got of it! - was going to be for the audience? Especially when much of that audience has stuck with you through six seasons of the same old shit? How can you be unprepared for the backlash when YOU are the reason people care this much in the first place?

Seeing the Maddie gif just reminded of all the wasted potential and storylines they could have had with Tommy and the bucktommy relationship. Because let's face it, for all of the mains it's the same storyline over and over again - we're not learning anything new about them. But then here we have a character who we sort of already know, who they've teased us with a bit of his history and it was like finally! A chance for something new! We could have learned more about his family, maybe see how Buck reacts meeting his father and then having to deal with his homophobic reaction to him, the man he loves and their relationship. He clearly sounded like he didn't have a lot of close friends/family/support outside of Buck - we could have explored that, have Buck be there for his man and show him how, you have me and the 118. We never got to see the whole "dating a fellow first responder and the challenges that come with that" - we've seen Buck in the hospital so many times, it would have been interesting to see Tommy in that hospital bed and Buck having to deal with the one being by the bedside for once, worrying about someone he loves, maybe making him fully appreciate everything his family had gone through in the past when HE was the one injured (like all the effort Maddie went into to look after him). We could have had Tommy and Eddie bonding over war stories - was Tommy discharged due to DADT? If so, we could have had conversations with Karen, who also was affected by that. Hell, if they were gonna do the stupid "he was engaged to Abby for two years" story, have Chim and Hen be like, dude, you were working with us all that time, how did we not KNOW (that story still makes no sense - he never mentioned her name to them? Because if he did, surely it would have clicked when they met her in S1 "oh, you're Tommy's Abby". But Tim acknowledged he retconned their relationship from an ex-boyfriend to ex-fiances so he clearly doesn't care.)
But most of all, despite being together for SIX MONTHS, we never saw Tommy and Maddie interact. Maddie was clearly excited for Buck ("tell me about the hot pilot"), she's married to Tommy's old friend, there was the perfect opportunity to see them start to bond over family dinner or something. We've never seen Maddie really click with any of Buck's LI's before, so it would have been nice to see Buck's whole world start to come together. And it could have led to family orientated stories for Buck for once - we always assume he wants kids because he says he loves kids and we see that with Chris, Jee etc. There could have been discussions for the first time about Buck's future - does he see himself getting married, having kids (and ugh, so annoyed that the first time Buck mentions the possibility of getting married is 30 seconds before his heart is crushed).
And that's not even going into the small things I wanted to see on-screen. I knew we were never gonna get anything too intimate - 911 is a bit prudish, they don't really do sex scenes, especially not since the first season, and hell, all their other main couples barely kiss as it is. But things like holding hands as they're walking down the street, talking about their day while making dinner together, waking up in bed together - small little domestic things that show how their relationship is developing. SHOW it developing. (Because while the snippets they showed of their relationship showed that they were growing more comfortable as a couple, a lot of that development happened off screen.)
This was the first time in a long time, maybe ever, that we saw Buck truly happy (that man was GLOWING, even covered in boils). For the first time, we could have seen his story GROW, instead of doing the same lather, rinse, repeat that has happened in all his relationships (Buck falls for someone, goes too hard too fast, they abandon him, he doesn't bother fighting for the relationship). We could have finally had a sprinkling of new storylines (Tommy wasn't a main, we obviously weren't going to get a hell of a lot, but if Karen can have her own stories/backstories, so could he). All that down the drain for what, Buck 1.0 again? Him jumping back on that hamster wheel of "find new love interest, it goes nowhere, he's single again". It's boring, and this show is on its 8th season - not only has this been played out for too long, who knows how much longer the show is gonna last. If it only goes until say season 10, that would have been two and a half seasons worth of seeing Buck be able to grow, get the love he always wanted (hell, maybe even get engaged, finish the series with a wedding implying he gets his happily ever after). Buck is only one member of an ensemble cast - they can't focus on him every episode, so two years is plenty of time to draw out only a handful of fresh stories. After 8 season, keeping him perpetually single for this long only works if he's always been played as like Joey off Friends - someone who is happy playing the dating game, not looking to go anywhere. Except Buck has been shown to be looking for love all this time - he doesn't want that single life (he doesnt want to "explore" Tim - screwing random men and women isnt going to help him find that love he's always wanted, especially when he already had it). But instead, they take it away from him AGAIN, and now they're back to square one. Sigh.
There’s so much i agree with here! They’ve tried to cram soooo many storylines into each episode that there’s no room to breathe. Everything feels stunted and half-assed. Tim said they didn’t want to ignore everything that happened at the end of 7, wanted to pick it back up, but they spent these first few episodes either destroying the storylines they built on, or ending them so abruptly it doesn’t feel satisfying. Nothing feels connected anymore. In early seasons you’d have them all working together on certain major storylines, but I’d doesn’t really feel like that happens now outside of calls. And the calls are so quick (besides the damn plane) that you don’t really connect with that either.
It would have been nice to see tommy and buck develop more, nice to see him involved with the group instead of just Eddie, nice to see them keep their word and try to make this love interest different from the rest. They did none of that.

Summary: Chris goes to spend the night with his uncle buck, and that means Eddie can have (Y/n) all to himself.
Enjoy.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Special delivery!" Chris tilted his head back until the back of his head was pressed into (Y/n)'s stomach and he could grin up at her. His eyes creased at the corners and he pushed his shoulders back into her, leaning his weight back onto her. While he stretched his arms up behind him until his fingers started to twitch and pat against her shoulders.
As soon as the door opened in front of them, Chris was back to giggling like he had been all the way in the car.
"Hey!" Buck opened the door and leaned his weight onto the doorframe, grinning from ear to her as he moved out the way to let the three of them inside the apartment.
He ruffled Chris's hair as he walked past and (Y/n) guided him inside with him still leaned up against her, holding her shoulders like he was about to try and pull her over.
"You ordered a menace?" Eddie nudged the door shut behind him before he held out Chris's backpack towards Buck who took it with a nod of his head and placed it down on the coffee table. "Collection tomorrow afternoon, no early returns, please." He stuffed his hands into his back pockets and looked up at the ceiling with a grin when (Y/n) looked back over her shoulder at him with pursed lips and a frown.
"You are mean, carino." She clicked her tongue at him before she looked back and Chris who made himself at home on the floor in front of the tv. He was already scouring through the games Buck had, trying to find one he wanted to play. When Buck came to their home last week he had beaten Chris on Mario Cart and Chris hadn't forgotten. He was determined to win a game tonight, no matter how long they had to play for.
"As if I'd return him, we're gonna have a great night aren't we bud?" Buck perched himself on the arm of the sofa but he frowned when (Y/n) handed him a folded piece of paper. "What's this, ground rules?"
"Allergies,"
"He's allergic to plasters, is that even a thing?"
"Not deathly allergic, but he'll get a rash and start to scratch. Nuts and lavender are the main ones and he will tell you otherwise but do not give him coffee, he's allergic to that too." Eddie raised a brow and tilted his head to the side when he glanced over at his son who groaned and flopped back to look at him.
Plasters were a small allergy, they made his skin red and sore and then Chris would scratch until it bled because it hurt. Lavender and nuts sent him into shock which was why he had his EpiPen in his bag for emergencies. And coffee was a new allergy that made him sick and brought him out in a bad rash. He had only just started to have a bit of Eddie's morning coffee until they realised it was another allergy but Chris liked the taste of Coffee.
He wasn't pleased that he couldn't have it anymore.
"His EpiPen is in the bag and his meds for the morning are in there too, it's only two tablets and he can do it himself. You know the routines and stuff, right?"
(Y/n) knew Eddie had briefed Buck on Chris's routines and Buck had seen for himself how Chris got if his routines were changed or weren't properly done. He knew Chris liked to have a long bath after his tea and then when he was in bed he had to be read a story and needed the nightlight on which he had brought in his bag.
There wasn't anything extreme with Chris, he didn't have hundreds of medications to take or precautions. He was easy going, he just wanted to spend time playing games with Buck and he enjoyed making food and would eat a lot more things than he did when he was little so Buck would have a good night.
"Yeah, I got it all memorised and if he starts stimming bad then he has his headphones." To Buck, it was very sweet when Chris was stimming, he loved seeing him squeal or shake his hands excitedly and when he got up to dance it made Buck smile. But he knew when they got repetitive and too fast that it meant he was overstimulated and needed to calm down. "Go on, have some fun we're having a games night. He is in good hands."
"Bye baby, be good and we'll see you tomorrow." Crouching down, (Y/n) wrapped her arms around Chris and kissed his temple, smiling when she felt a sloppy kiss against her cheek.
Eddie walked over to him and perched down on the coffee table to be close enough to whisper "Remember what I told you?"
"Wind up uncle Buck,"
"That's my boy, you have fun." He shared a look with chris when (Y/n) nudged his shoulder and Buck made an exaggerated sigh while he flopped back on the sofa. "Any problems, call me."
"We'll be fine, go enjoy yourselves."
***
It felt good to kick off her heels when she was finally back in the hallway, the heels had been obscuring her balance for the last hour or so and with the alcohol mixed in, (Y/n) was almost toppling over. Heels didn't go well with her but they made her look good and she could actually reach Eddie's height- and more specifically his lips- without pushing up on her tiptoes or dragging his face down to hers.
She hooked Eddie's jacket that she had been wearing all afternoon, over the back of the dining room chair and headed through into the kitchen. It felt strange to have the house deathly quiet and not to sneak around trying to be quiet so she didn't wake Chris. But it was a good feeling.
(Y/n) loved Chris to death, he was her baby boy and she wouldn't have things any other way. But it did feel good to have a night with Eddie and not have to worry if Chris could hear them or if he was alright or wonder what he was doing.
They knew he was with Buck and having the time of his life; whenever Buck came round Chris never wanted him to leave. Last week he went as far as having a meltdown when Buck had to go. At least he didn't have to be upset this time, he could spend the full night with Buck and (Y/n) was relieved that Chris's first night away from home- other than being with his grandparents- was with someone she trusted.
Rounding the kitchen counter, (Y/n) headed to the fridge and grabbed two bottles of beer.
After they dropped Chris off with Buck, they had gone to see a movie and then out for tea and a few drinks. But after the third drink, they were both ready to come home and spend the night in together. (Y/n) could already hear that Eddie had put the tv on in the living room and guessed he was looking for another movie to watch. With his work pattern, whenever Eddie got an evening or a day off, he binged a few good movies because he didn't have a lot of free time to watch movies. Other than the same five cartoon movies Chris was currently obsessed with.
(Y/n)'s arms jerked forward and the bottle cap she was trying to prize off flew into the sink when a pair of strong hands cup her hips. She smiled when she felt his lips merge against the side of her neck but just as she closed her eyes, (Y/n) felt herself smirking.
"What're you doing?" Her voice was quiet and raspy but she knew exactly what her husband was doing when she felt his fingertips move up until they reached the middle of her back where the zipper to her dress was.
"Helping you," With a little tug, the dress pooled around her bare feet and she was left stood in her matching white lace lingerie.
"Well this isn't fair,"
(Y/n) dragged her fingertips up his shirt until she was holding the top button and started to undo them, slowly working her way down. With every button she popped free, she leaned close and placed a butterfly kiss down each exposed part of his chest.
It didn't take long until her lips were hovered over the waistband of his jeans but she couldn't move her hands to his belt quick enough. He bent his knees and leaned down and in one swift motion, Eddie had his left arm bound around the back of (Y/n)'s thighs and he lifted her up off her feet. Her arms coiled around his neck and her legs looped around his back so she was perched low on his torso, feeling his belt rubbing against her bare thigh.
He moved his arm so it was tight around her waist, keeping her pinned in place against his chest and his free hand swiped the two bottles of beer off the counter. Eddie downed a large gulp of beer and hazardly slumped the bottles onto the coffee table so he could grab the back of (Y/n)'s thigh and lower her down onto the sofa.
She barely had time to try and sit up before Eddie was moving between her legs, crawling up her frame until he was hovering over her with one hand cupping the back of her neck and the other gripping the back of the sofa to hold himself up.
"Eager?"
"Yep; you're mine all night, I don't have to share you with anyone."
She could feel the hand at the back of her neck tightening until his fingertips were scratching and tangling against her hair. He tilted her head back so she was staring up at him so he could lean down and devour her lips.
He didn't have to share her tonight; there was no waiting around for Chris to fall asleep instead of just lying in bed giggling away to himself. They didn't have to be quiet not to wake him or worry that he would blunder into the room at two in the morning after a nightmare. And they weren't at a family gathering or hanging out with friends where Eddie had to calm himself down and lengthen his patience to share his wife with other people.
She was his and his alone tonight.
"Well then, I think you need help getting out of these,"
Eddie didn't even realise her hands had moved down to his belt until he heard the pin popping out and realised she had undone the buckle. He watched her yank them down to his knees and let him kick them off to the floor. A smirk curved at his lips when he felt her legs coil around his waist and he felt the heels of her feet dig into his lower back, pulling him down to her. He let go of the sofa and let his weight drop onto his thighs between her legs, keeping one hand on the back of her neck while the other moved down to her hip.
His lips attached to her neck but he made a very fast path down her neck and between her cleavage, grinning into her skin when he felt her chest suck inwards and noticed how she held her breath, waiting for his next move.
(Y/n) didn't realise she had closed her eyes until it felt like stars were glistening behind her eyelids. She could feel him biting a bruise into her skin before he tilted his chin down a little more so his nose brushed against the dark mark he'd created as if he was making it better. Her hand moved to tangle in Eddie's hair, something she knew would make him groan if she gave the slightest tug on his roots.
She didn't see the way his smirk turned into something darker and she didn't notice his hand move down from the back of her neck.
His fingers hooked in the middle of her bra that felt as thin and flimsy as clingfilm; just what he needed. His teeth clenched down on the top of the bra and in one swift move, he growled and ripped the material right down the middle. Splitting it in two so he could throw each torn piece against her arms and reveal her chest to his hungry gaze.
"Eddie!" Her fingers tightened in his hair and gave a sharp tug when she realised what he'd done. "I thought you liked these ones," She could barely breathe as she stared down at him through hooded lashes.
She couldn't wear this set anymore, he ruined them.
"I do, but they look so much better off."
"Eddie no-" (Y/n) cut herself off and groaned for two different reasons when he scoured down her body to do the same to the matching underwear.
He hooked his fingers into the middle and grabbed the hem of the underwear around her hip and gave a tug until it tore. The lace threaded and frazzled until it was jagged and loose and he could throw the thin stringy material down to the floor.
That was better.
"Come on then, time for a story." Buck motioned his hands towards the stairs but the smile he'd worn almost all night started to disappear when he looked back at Chris. He let out a little grunt and stood behind the sofa, close enough to the stairs but not actually moving to get up them and Buck knew he could get up the stairs just fine. "You wanna lift up there?"
He reached out to try and pick Chris up but he didn't get close before Chris started to shake his head and his wrists. He flapped his hands out at his sides and clicked his jaw to the left, making a loud open expression but not actually making any noise. Buck hadn't seen that stim before.
"Don't you want to go to bed yet? Your dad told me you always go to bed at eight," He tried to keep his smile as he moved to crouch down in front of Chris to see what the problem was.
Chris pressed his lips together and nodded, flitting his eyes towards the kitchen and back a few times while his hands stayed shaking at his sides like he was getting rid of excess energy.
"Alright then, the spare bed is up there buddy right next to mine. Let's brush our teeth and get that story out your bag."
Buck tried again to reach out and pick Chris up, wondering if it was just the prospect of going upstairs that was the problem since he lived in a bungalow. But the moment he tried to lift him up, Chris squealed. It wasn't a horrid scream or a scared or frightened noise, it was almost exciteable and Buck was sure he heard a small giggle afterwards. He let go of Chris and watched, dumbfounded, as the eight year old flapped his arms like they were wings and slumped down to sit on the floor.
He began to kick his heels against the floor and his upper body rocked back and forth while he bit down on his thumb and made another squeal.
"Am I forgetting something?" Buck's voice was tender and he smiled, sinking back on his heels with his hands resting on his knees. But when Chris nodded, Buck got confused. He couldn't think what he was missing. They had played games, Chris had helped him make pasta for tea and ate two bowls and a huge donut for pudding that was their secret.
He'd found some plastic cups so Chris could play bartender in the bath and got him in his pjs. They had sweets and a Thomas the Tank Engine movie on and now it was time for bed. What was he missing?
"Why don't I call your dad, see if he can tell me what I'm forgetting, eh?"
Another squeal left Chris's lips before Buck was sure he muttered 'mummy' but he couldn't be certain as Chris started another stim. He let go of his thumb and moved to bash the palm of his hand against his lips. It made a funny gasping, popping sound against Chris's fast breaths and reminded Buck of a fish out of water, but he could see Chris wasn't panicking. He was getting a bit aggressive with his stims but he wasn't upset.
Something in his routine just wasn't right.
"Hey Eddie, I-"
"Buck, what's the problem?" He could barely hear Eddie, he sounded like the phone was a mile away from his ear and his voice was very deep. Each word rasped past his lips like he was drowning or running a marathon.
"Are you okay?" Buck lowered his voice while he moved to sit on his bum and bend his knees up to try and be a bit comfier while he sat on the floor with Chris.
"No, I'm kind of in the middle of something and you're interrupting. What's up?"
"Oh!"
Eddie could feel his fingers tensing and crippling with how tightly he was crushing them against the arm of the sofa. His eyes burned into (Y/n)'s when he noticed her trying to reach for the phone, mumbling a forced 'Is Chris okay?' as she tried to grab the phone from between his ear and shoulder.
He growled out a deep breath, tightening his shoulder to his ear before he moved his left hand and grabbed her wrist, pinning it above her head against the arm of the sofa. He wasn't giving her the phone because he knew exactly what would happen if he did. Either (Y/n) would end up crumbling and going to pick up Chris, or Chris would hear her voice and want to come home whereas if Eddie could settle whatever was wrong over the phone, they would all win.
Chris would stay at his sleepover, Buck would feel proud and achieved at looking after his nephew and Eddie would keep (Y/n) to himself for the night.
He wiggled his hips forward, pushing (Y/n)'s thighs outwards a bit more before he moved round. His right hand let go of the sofa and he let his chest drop down onto (Y/n)'s with his weight now on his right elbow and his hand holding his phone as his shoulder was starting to hurt. He buried his face in the crook of (Y/n)'s neck, feeling his hot breaths panting against her throat that was burning and glistening with sweat. And he could feel her hand pawing at his but he didn't let go of her wrist that he kept pinned above her head; she never won against him when he pinned her down like this and they both knew it.
"Buck, it's his bedtime, what's gone wrong?"
"Sorry, uh, it's not gone wrong, we were about to head upstairs and he started stimming, he won't go up. I asked if I'd missed something and he nodded but he won't tell me."
"Okay, have you, um- shit, don't do that!" Eddie pulled his head back up to look down at (Y/n), trying not to break her wrist when she clenched around him and hooked her legs around his hips to pull him closer. She dug her feet into his torso and gave him a sharp tug forward to get his attention but she knew what she was doing and she was winding him up while he was on the phone.
"What are you doing- God, you're not-"
"Yes and you're making it very difficult Buck," He dropped his head back down to rest on (Y/n)'s chest, merging his forehead with her burning skin as he scrunched his eyes tight and tried to think. "He's had a bath, watched a movie? Have you let him finish the whole film?" They learned long ago that if they wanted Chris to go to bed early they had to either put the film on early or start it halfway through. Chris had to watch the end of the film or he wouldn't go to bed.
"Yeah, I did all that like you said. We're sat on the floor, he won't let me take him up to brush his teeth and read a story, what haven't I done?"
"Is he upset, ah just put him on the speaker real quick." Eddie held the phone between him and (Y/n) so she could hear because he couldn't think of the problem. "Chris, it's us buddy, what's wrong you know it's bedtime,"
Buck held the phone out towards Chris who smiled and leaned forward until his head touched his knees and when he leaned back up again, he started to pat his hand against his mouth.
"Mummy… kitchen, mummy make… kitchen," He cut himself off with a loud squeal before he started to rapidly press his hand to his mouth until Buck leaned forward and held his hand in case he started to hurt himself by mistake.
"You want what?" A frown pulled at Eddie's lips and he looked down at (Y/n). He could see the concentration on her face and the confusion pooling in her eyes as she tried to figure out what he was telling her.
He wanted her in the kitchen? He wanted her to do something before he went to bed? He wanted her to make something?
"Oh, milk!"
Buck closed his eyes and tilted his head back when chris squealed so loudly he thought the windows were going to shatter. He nodded and started to clap his hands before he tried to get up and toddle off to the kitchen. That was the missing link in his routine, that was what he wanted because he needed a drink of milk before he went to bed.
"H-he wants a glass of warm milk before he goes to bed, just a small half glass," (Y/n) tightened her legs around Eddie again when he bit down on her neck and grinned into her skin.
She could almost feel the relief radiating off her husband at knowing she had worked out what Chris wanted. They wouldn't have to go pick him up, he was just missing something and now they had found it. Eddie wanted a miracle and he just found one; there was no way he was leaving now.
"That's it, he'll be fine after that?" Buck knew the answer to his own question when he watched Chris open the fridge and point to the carton of milk he couldn't quite reach. He hadn't wanted to go and do it himself, Chris was too polite to barge around the kitchen and demand things but at the same time, he wouldn't settle if something was different.
Ever since he was a toddler, (Y/n) had given him a glass of warmed up milk which he drank in bed while he had his story. That was a cemented block in his routine and he wanted it to stay that way.
"Yeah, he sounds happy enough,"
"God, thank you, thank you!"
"Night Buck."
With a swift click Eddie ended the call and chucked the phone onto the pile of clothes mounted on the floor. He loved his son and he loved Buck like a brother, but he didn't want to see or hear from them until tomorrow afternoon where he could hear all about their day together.
Eddie's all consuming thought and feeling was his wife, wrapped around him like a blanket. He was gonna drag this night out into the morning and make it last as long as he could; he didn't want any more phone calls or concerns or worries. He wanted the boys to be fine so his concentration could be on the person buried beneath him, staring up at him with those deep eyes.
"Where were we?" His voice was deep and (Y/n) could feel the words rumbling up from his chest, vibrating through to her as she reached her hands up to cup his face. Her thumbs smoothed across his cheek and jaw as she pulled him down to her level.
He pecked her lips once, twice, three times before he bit her lower lip and sucked it between his teeth and rutted his hips into hers, finally free to move without being caught on the phone.
The night had only just begun.
The Creek - Evan 'Buck' Buckley x reader 2/?
Summary: after a nasty storm rolls in, you and Chris decide to try and leave your sightseeing trip, until tragedy strikes, and Buck and Eddie are forced to make a rescue they never anticipated
Warnings: ..none really other than you almost dying 0.0
A/n: this has not been edited or proof-read :) lmk what you think <3 or what you wanna see happen in the next part :)
You and Buck decided to keep things private, just between you two for now, just until you got out of the honeymoon phase of a new relationship. Until then, you found it fun to sneak out, it made you both feel like teenagers again, but at the end of the day, you always met Buck at his apartment, cuddling up with him on the couch for dinner, before finally going to bed.
You and Chris were spending the day together while Eddie and Buck went to work. It was so far a good day, you took Chris to an ice cream stand, before going to a local tourist attraction. You knew Chris always wanted to fly, so you decided to take him up to a skyscraper, letting him view out of the windows to see the city below "Ya know, if you look super close, you could see dad's work" You whispered to him, pointing out the tiny firehouse in the distance, smiling knowing the man you admired so much was out there saving people. As you looked up though you saw something that made you gulp, large storm clouds rolling closer and closer to you, you knew how dangerous being this high in a building could be, and you weren't even on the top floor.
The building swayed with the wind, the metal and steel whining and groaning under the stress, Chris started to stumbled, causing you to reach out to help stabilize him so he didn't lose his balance "Come on, let's get lower before the storm gets worse" You encouraged, nudging Christopher to the elevators, as you both loaded in, and the elevator started its decent, loud crackles emitted from above you, the power and movement cutting out at the same time. Christopher grabbed your arm tightly "Y/n?..What's happening?" He whimpered, you wrapped an arm around him kneeling down "It's okay, bud, I promise, we just have to be brave like dad and Buck" You whispered, trying to shake the feeling something terrible was about to happen.
"118 we have a distress call coming from the skyscraper downtown, floor 53, caller says a window has busted and the level is flooding with rain water, be advised, there is a wind advisory, so winds will be powerful up there" Maddie's voice rang through the walkie's as the team finished up a small brush fire. "Got it, show us responding" Bobby replied, motioning everybody to load up and move out.
You took a deep breath trying to hide your fear as the elevator started to fill with water, you could tell something was wrong with the floor above "Okay, it's okay, we're gonna...uh..get you up on the railig beore the water gets above your chin any higher, okay?" You whimpered nervously, helping Chris onto the hand rail that was slightly above water, watching his feet slip and slide against the metal, you moved to stand in front of him "You're okay, I'm right here, I won't let you fall, Christopher" You promised, your lips turning blue, and the feeling in the toes and fingers slowly vanishing "We should be fine now! I'm s-sure your dad will be here to save us in no time" you tried to hold back your tears, but your body was freezing to the point it was starting to become painful now.
It had been about five minutes before you started ti get another bad feeling, a slight buzzing was erupting in your body, and you couldn't tell why, until the button panel sparked, sending hundreds of volts of electricity through the water, sending you straight into an unconscious state, leaving your body floating gently above the water. "Y/n? Somebody help!" Christopher cried out, trying to shake your body, desperate for you to wake back up.
Hen, Eddie, and Buck rushed the side of the building, realizing they wouldn't be able to open an doors, they'd have to scale the side of the building to get to the flooded floor. As Bobby gave the go-ahead tug on the ropes tied to the roof, the boys and Hen started to climb up, it took them about five minutes before reaching the floor, Eddie and Hen started helping people down, Buck getting the others ready to go down next, as he panted, he stopped for a moment, swearing he heard Christopher's shout. It couldn't be though, he had to of been going crazy "Buck, the front desk worker said there should be two more people up there other than the 12 you counted, Do Not let Eddie find out..But the check-in list says it's a Diaz and l/n" Bobby's voice broke through Buck's speaker "Hey! Hey! There was a little boy up here too! A-and- And a woman! Where are they!?" Buck shouted to the others over the wind, his stomach dropping whenever they pointed to the elevator that was sucking water through the cracks.
Buck raced down the stairs, breaking through the next floor down, grabbing a chair throwing it against the door to make some type of noise "CHRISTOPHER!? Y/N!?" He shouted against the metal door frame, sighing in relief whenever he heard Christopher shout back, his relief short lived as Christopher spoke "Buck! You have to save us! Y/n passed out! and the water keeps shocking me whenever I try and get her!" He screamed in reply "Bobby! I need power cut!" Buck screamed into his walkie talkie, tears welling in his eyes not noticing Bobby rushing in behind with a haligan axe and a fire axe "Let's go!" He shouted, handing Buck an axe.
Chris whimpered hearing Metal whining as it bent before hearing the water rush out and the view of Buck's face greeted him through the now pried open doors "Come on, come on we got you" Buck whispered, He watched as Bobby started CPR on your body "Buck! Chim and I got this! Get him down to the truck!" Bobby shouted, he nodded nervously, grabbing his rope that was left dangling, clipping it back to his harness. "W-What? We can't leave her! We have to stay, Buck!" Chris fought, trying to break Buck's hold as Buck approached the window, ready to repel down back to safety. "Listen to me! Christopher, they have the best people wokring on her, right now, I have to get you to your dad and checked out" Buck argued, holding onto Chris tightly as he slowly lowered the both of them down the side of the building "Buck! You have to save her! She's the closest I'll ever be to having a mom again! I love her!" Christopher begged, tears welling up in his eyes "Me too, Chris, I love her too, so I'll make sure she's okay, but you can't tell anyone." Buck said as they approached the ground, Eddie taking notice to his son being harnessed to Buck, he rushed over "Where's Y/n?" He asked panicked, grabbing Christopher quickly "She's getting CPR, I'm going back up" Buck said sternly.
You didn't really remember anything whenever you woke up, spending two weeks in the hospital before finally being released. You were forced to spend the next three weeks after that being babied and pampered by Buck. You both laid on the couch cuddling as star wars played on the tv, as you slept peacefully on Buck's chest he panicked hearing the front door open, not knowing if he should out you both as together, or sit up risking you falling off the couch. Eddie smirked clearing his throat "Lookie what I found Christopher, looks like Buck's trying to keep y/n from you guys's lunch plans" He teased, Christopher appearing from around the doorway smiling "Evan?.." You asked slowly waking up, your mind still groggy from your nap, taking a few moments to realize Chris and Eddie were standing right in front of you. "Listen, I wasn't the one who put her to sleep, she decided to take a nap" Buck chuckled, taking note of Eddie protective glare watching his hand resting a little too low on your back.
It didn’t take long for you to get ready and leave with Christopher for your lunch plans, leaving Buck and Eddie to sit alone in his living room “Evan.” Eddie said, tone matching one that he would use for Chris whenever he was having an attitude or not listening to his father. “Yes Edmundo?” Buck mocked crossing his arms “you realize, y/n is like a sister or daughter to me, and as someone who cares truly about her, I say Evan Buckley, if she ever comes to my home, crying about something stupid you did, I will find you. Or I’ll let Christopher find you” he threatened, knowing Buck would fight Eddie back, but he wouldn’t dare hurt Christopher. “I understand Eddie, I don’t wanna hurt Y/n anymore than she’s already been hurt..she’s dealt with a lot in her life and I just wanna make the life we have left better for her in any way that I can” Buck said honestly fiddling with his fingers “I trust you. But remember what I said” Eddie warned before resting his hand on Buck’s shoulder “now, how about we go get our own lunch to celebrate your new relationship” he smiled pushing Buck playfully before grabbing his keys “fine, but only because hearing Y/n talk about the food her and Chris are getting made me hungry” Buck agreed smiling standing up making his way to the shoe rack.
Breaking down all the Buddie from "Confessions"
Did I write a photo review with over 5000 words dissecting the episode? Yeah, I did... Hope y'all enjoy!
Gonna ignore the first call because other than the bad mustache CGI/shots where it's not even there, there wasn't anything of substance. I wonder if they used that old call cause they had to fill up time, were short on budget, something else fell through or what happened.
So let's move to Eddie going to church. After 23 or so years he felt the need to confess his sins. But after an explanation of the crazy stuff that went down with Kim, including mentioning how Eddie lied to his son, his best friend and his girlfriend, he concluded he's not deserving of forgiveness and fled. The priest looked conflicted and that's supposed to be that.
Eddie, catholic guilt and all, went to church to confess. It's like the most desperate measure, I imagine, but desperate times... He gave the priest his name. Interesting. I got so emotional when he described Chris and talked about his optimism. Lying to Buck was pretty much at the top of the list, huh? Like, Eddie knew how bad he was behaving because their relationship's made up of truths. His talk in the kitchen with Buck was actually instrumental to him seeing how wrong all of it was. They need to be married immediately. The fact that one of the prayers (?) Eddie was meant to repent with was called "Our Fathers" was also interesting because it's coming from a priest or father but also, more obviously, Eddie's got a million daddy issues. Ramón traumatized him and Eddie said he traumatized Chris and Chris ended up going to Texas to live with Eddie's father.
The Buck and T date scene was super interesting for many, many reasons:
Buck thought he had the upper hand, saying he'd pay for dinner and trying to get T to guess the reason behind it.
T already knew it's their anniversary, which Buck clearly didn't expect.
T didn't just know, he actually brought Buck a gift for the occasion.
Interestingly enough, last season we learned that Buck didn't like basketball in the episode in which his jealousy and Eddie and T and him being bisexual happened.
T, after SIX months of dating the man, somehow didn't know that and gifted Buck tickets to see the Lakers.
For some odd reasons, T told Buck he didn't even have to take him to the game, "Take Eddie if you want," he suggested.
Buck looked confused but not exactly averse to that idea and asked, "really?"
And then T went, "and die" and then Buck replied, "okay, that sounds right."
Now, let's go through all that. It's their anniversary, they're out for dinner, and they apparently had a good time and then it's like they're completely out of sync. Buck wanted to pay for dinner to commemorate their anniversary, thinking T had missed it, whereas not only did T not miss it but he also bought him a present. Problem was said present wasn't something Buck actually cared for, which T seemed unaware of. The joke about taking Eddie... Why even suggest that? Was that a test? Did Buck fail it by wondering if that was really a possibility?
Then the woman interrupted the date and asked for a picture, with some unnecessary touching involved. I truly didn't get why Buck grabbed his own phone to take the pics... Was this second nature to him? A practical way to have an excuse to ask for the woman's phone number to send the pics? She wondered this and Buck denied it but there's literally no other reason to do that. T looked at the whole thing amusedly. Buck took the pics and went back to the table, expressing how weird that was.
Was that weird? I'm honestly so confused by that scene, like... people ask strangers to take their pics all the time. Yes, some of those might be an excuse to flirt but they're at a restaurant, which isn't exactly the greatest place to be trying to pick up someone. Also, Buck made it weird with the whole using his phone thing. Even if the woman was flirting, which she seemed to be, it didn't have to be made into anything. We can assume from this that Buck is uncomfortable being flirted at in front of T but he might also not feel great about feeling attracted to somebody other than his boyfriend who's right there to see it all.
Here's where it actually got weirder. T acknowledged the fact that it's okay to look and then Buck remarked that T didn't do that. T explained he's gay by saying he's a Kinsey 6. Buck, for some reasons, didn't pick on the meaning of that so T had to explain it. That's just... I call bullshit on that. Buck, recently bisexual, lover of research and internet deep dives would know ALL about it. This scene, I gotta say, felt super wonky. At points it was meant to but at others, like this one, it just... felt off. There's also the fact that Oliver and L have zero chemistry...
Anyway, back to the date. So T didn't know that Buck disliked basketball and Buck didn't know that T was gay? After SIX months of being together? What in the hell? Why were they only talking about that at this point? I don't think full disclosure or knowing your partner's history is a must at all, but considering Buck's curiosity and the fact that he was newly out, I figured all these subjects would've part of the first conversations between them. I'm not sure what to think. Was the writing completely off? Were they unable to come up with a better excuse to bring about the past partners talk and resorted to this? It's baffling. And since it's canon, whatever the reason, I found that the whole date showcased how little they actually knew about each other, which could only be a bad sign of the things to come for their relationship.
Of course, after that comment, T revealed he was engaged to a woman and called it off. Once again, the dialogue... T saying the woman went "nuts" after their break up, taking up some "himbo" half her age... Buck figured she was just trying to get over T, and then he mentioned the name of the woman. Of course it was Abby. Of course. Buck was literally having a crisis there, but the waiter showed up and asked how everything was. T, completely out of tune with what Buck was clearly trying to process, said it was "perfect." The waiter asked if he could get them anything else and T said "no, I think we're good." Buck looked so the opposite of good. Then the waiter wondered "who gets the damage" and, at last, a flawless piece of dialogue with T pointing at Buck and saying "That would be him." Buck was handed the check and the waiter told him, "whenever you're ready, no rush" and left while Buck looked like he was having a heart attack.
So, yeah, the date was a complete disaster. It's a mix between the actors not clicking, the dialogue serving the plot instead of Buck as a character (and Abby and even the show) and finally the actual plot dictating that it had to be a disaster. Honestly, the moment this bit ended, I knew they were going to be done.
Next, Buck went to dispatch to talk to Maddie. Why didn't he talk this through with Eddie, Hen and Chim? Curious... Maddie wondering how many men Abby had turned gay was hilarious. But I can't believe they didn't squeeze in the fact that Buck's bi there. They didn't do it during the date, though it was implicit, but here they had the perfect opportunity since they hadn't done it before. It would've taken a second for Buck to correct Maddie. Again, the writing this episode was all over the place, specially cause Buck looked at Maddie offended and Maddie clarified she was joking but then Buck sorta explained himself and T... anyways. Josh showed up then, and something was totally off with the actor's hair btw, I couldn't focus for a second there.
Josh eavesdropped and caught the kissing a boy part and eagerly asked if there was another boy... Buck was quick to deny that. Well, there's Eddie... Maddie and Buck explained the whole situation and Josh apparently knew her but they weren't close. And then, again, this whole thing just didn't make sense. Buck remarked that T led her on, said he loved her and then hurt her. Maddie thought Buck was afraid T would do that to Buck but Buck denied this and said, "I thought I knew him" and that he didn't think T would be capable of being dishonest and cruel.
Let me rewind for a second. Why was Buck under the impression that he knew T? Buck didn't even know T was gay... Also, didn't Buck know about T's past? He was worse than cruel to Hen and Chim... Truly, was he not told about all of that? I just, the use of the world cruel here... don't get me wrong, leading someone on is cruel but the whole being gay and repressing it part, while not excusing it, would at least explain T's actions. But the way he acted towards Chim and Hen... that had nothing to do with self-repression. It just didn't. I need someone to explain to me in detail how come Buck was deluded to think he knew T when at this point I'd be shocked to learn he knew T's last name.
Then the Josh speech happened. I wasn't happy with it at all. First of all, what's Buck loving him to do with any of it? If T was a cruel person, then Buck loving him wouldn't justify any of what he did to Abby. Buck looked super not in love as an answer, which was hilarious to me because of course he didn't love T, he didn't know the man!!! Josh backtracked from that word and asked a series of questions aimed at... gauging how much Buck cared for T? IDEK, it was all pretty ridiculous from the start. Also, first two questions made sense for Buck to answer affirmatively but T was literally such a plot device that there hadn't been a single instance in which Buck had shown that he was thinking about T or making T's concerns and happiness his own. These things, though, get positive answers in canon as far as Buddie is concerned. The future question was interesting because Buck's answer was "I could." It's never a definitive answer, it's another instance of "I guess" from the time T echoed "my attention?" when they first kissed. It's like Buck was convincing himself then. Josh took that to advice Buck to stop judging T because Buck didn't know what he was talking about.
The speech went into pre and post Glee world and all that nonsense. I truly hate a lot of things this episode chose to be. Was mentioning a Ryan Murphy show in a RM show a necessity? I don't wanna get into what Glee did or didn't do for the queer world, the point here is actually moot because T and Abby weren't a thing before Glee. Again, whatever experience with coming out T and Josh had, it had nothing to do with what Buck was asking. Buck was worried about the side of T he claimed not to know and how cruel he could be. I think the way T referred to her and the situation was also pretty awful, in the present tense. Even if one thought T was protecting himself by being with Abby, there is still room for judgement. We have Hen and Karen, in this same show, not being cruel to anyone, for one. Also, T didn't fight a single battle. He treated his coworker who was out like scum and was racist towards Chim. T wasn't an activist fighting for his life and his rights, he was just a bad person all around as far as we know. He had no scars to show. We can pretend he had an internal battle, maybe a family issue with his coming out but there's nothing to honor him for.
I cannot believe this show did that speech so awfully and pretended it was the greatest thing since Jack Shephard's "live together, die alone." Truly, they thought they had done a brilliant job and it's utter bullshit throughout.
Moving on, Eddie went to get juice... but then he changed his mind and got water instead. Who's there to witness that but Father Brian. Eddie's outside, drinking his water looking gloomy about it when Brian asked him of he could take a seat. Eddie allowed him to and for some reason, as Brian was sitting down, looked around. Brian told Eddie about being there for the first time, as if compelled, and then asked Eddie if he went there often. Eddie immediately assumed he was being hit on. Now, whether this is indicative of Eddie being hit on a lot or he just took those words as the line they sometimes can be and interpreted it that way, I hope we'll find out soon. Either way, Eddie told Brian "no offense, I'm straight." The lady doth protest... Hilariously enough, Brian's answer wasn't "me too" or "I'm not interested" but "I'm celibate". Eddie took that in and then Brian introduced himself and revealed that he knew Eddie. Eddie was processing that and the Father part, his hand still in the air.
Brian mentioned that he noticed that Eddie chose the juice initially and then got the water instead. He asked Eddie why he did that and Eddie kinda asked "decided I wanted water?" Brian posed that Eddie was punishing himself, denying himself because Eddie didn't feel worthy. Eddie sighed and, "I don't feel worty of juice?" Brian went straight (haha) to the point, "Of joy." Eddie chuckled and looked around and spoke in a low voice as he said he didn't have a lot to be joyful about because Brian was bringing up something Eddie had confessed to him in public. Eddie's well aware he's in public... Brian started listing the things that Eddie had, Chris, his parents, his job and his mustache. Eddie was kinda not happy but that last one got him laughing and blushing. He then confessed that he grew the mustache because he couldn't grow a full beard due to the LAFD. Brian concluded the mustache was a disguise and Eddie said it was something like that. Brian asked what Eddie's afraid of seeing in the mirror and Eddie said, "A failure. A man who doesn't deserve forgiveness. Or joy." Brian said that's now what go wanted for Eddie, that he'd already forgiven him. Eddie repeated that he doesn't deserve that and uncapped the bottle to take a sip of the water. Brian told him to earn it, and to stop punishing himself in the meantime. He remarked that Eddie spent his life in service and he understood that but they couldn't take care of others if they didn't take care of themselves. Eddie smiled and said he understood and Brian told him that after praying, he wanted Eddie to do something frivolous, something fun, something that expressed pure joy. Eddie told him he'd think about it.
The Eddie scenes were clearly written by someone else because they were all pretty on point. We had Eddie conflicted, and while it could just be him preferring water (the alternative is truly devastating to me so I want to believe Eddie isn't punishing himself through food), Brian decided to go with it to get Eddie to reflect about what he was doing to himself and it worked. Eddie didn't run away like he did in church but Eddie was shown to be aware of his surroundings, so the fact that he claimed to be straight with all of his chest... Why did he do that? Why did he think he was being hit on in the first place? Why was that moment necessary within this scene? Was juice really a representation of joy? Was joy a metaphor for something else? What were tptb trying to show or say here? Would a heterosexual character need to affirm himself as such? Would a repressed one? Thoughts, so many thoughts!!!!
The well emergency happened and it wasn't about Eddie, but it was interesting cause they seem to be doing Greatest Hits for some reason... Now I gotta ask, wouldn't Eddie, as a medic, know that getting the kid oxygen wouldn't work? Why was Hen explaining that to him? Honestly, the writing this episode... Buck's first idea was to dig... funny. Eddie said someone had to get down there and Bobby told him he wasn't gonna fit this time. Interesting. Bobby announced they would pull the big brother out after two minutes no matter what, specifically addressing Buck and Eddie. Interesting.
So it wasn't about Eddie because it wasn't the same Eddie. The pipe was smaller and Eddie didn't fit. But Eddie also didn't fit himself. He disguised himself with a mustache to avoid looking at his face in the mirror because he felt like a failure. He was shown in an episode entitled "Masks" at home taking down Halloween decorations all on his own. Bobby made sure that both Buck and Eddie knew the clock was ticking and they had to abide by it this time. Unlike Eddie's well, when Eddie cut the line and Hen refused to have Buck look for him because they'd end up with two cut lines. No more lines being cut? No more alternative ways to escape? Maybe I'm reading way too much but the camera did show Buck and Eddie's reaction as Bobby singled them out.
Back at the loft, T said he had a spot right out front and they should Uber to the movie so he didn't lose it. That phrasing... Buck agreed but asked to talk first. T replied positively, "we got time." Again, funny way to put it. They were both going to the movies so why was T the one who was going to lose it if they didn't get the Uber? You know who actually got an Uber with Buck recently, right? Also, "we got time".... famous last words. He'd just said they didn't have time but then said they did and, well, as it turned out, they didn't.
They sat down around the island and Buck brought up the story at the restaurant that T shared with him about how he "almost got engaged." This was odd and T corrected Buck, "I did get engaged. What I didn't do is get married." Buck said he appreciated T's honesty and that he wanted to be honest with him. T knew this spelled trouble and Buck denied it before taking out his phone and passing it over to show T pictures of Buck and Abby. T was surprised at first but then he scrolled to a pic of Buck and Abby kissing. Buck announced he was the himbo. T agreed it was crazy, after Buck put it like that, but added it was a little awkward. Buck decided to go closer and said it was like that for him as well at first, and that he should had been honest at dinner, but T asked or gathered that it had freaked him out a little. Buck said yes to this and T explained that if he had known, he wouldn't had used the word himbo because he didn't think Buck's one. Buck claimed that he was, at least before Abby, because what they had wasn't that, not for him. Buck said it was the most transformative relationship of his life until then. Buck said one of the reasons he's comfortable with T was that T's comfortable with himself. T said he wasn't always that way and Buck said he's aware and it made him admire T more. And then dropped the bomb, saying he wanted T to move in with him. WHAT?
No, really, WHAT? Buck really got deranged thoughts cause why on Earth would he ask T to move in? They clearly didn't know each other, they didn't love each other either, so explain how this made sense?? I'm hoping that it's a case of tptb purposefully having Buck spiral and go from zero to a hundred. There's also parallels between this and Eddie and Marisol, with Buck and Eddie asking their partners to move in when their relationships were clearly not at that stage.
T's reaction to Buck's words was crystal. While Buck said he was ready to take the next step and then, for entirely insane reasons, made it clear that he wasn't proposing marriage and or an engagement, though that'd be a possibility thanks to the brave people that came before like T. WHAT? Really, no, I'm so serious. I fucking cannot with this dialogue. Moving in, the suggestion, was bad enough, but bringing up marriage? Attributing the fact that they had that right thanks to people like T? SERIOUSLY? This was atrocious. I know Oliver was thinking of his bank account while delivering those lines because they were as non sensical as they could get.
"Why be apart when we can be together?" Buck finally asked. T said that's sweet but he couldn't move in. Buck wondered the why and T answered, "Because... I know how this ends." And my heart literally stopped or skipped a beat or something. I legit thought he was gonna bring up Eddie or a hint and, well, he kinda did, though not directly.
Buck asked what that meant and T explained. He mentioned Buck's qualities but then said that Buck's feelings were new and so it was all exciting and it felt like forever but he's still figuring himself out, which was good. Buck asked what he was saying and T said that no matter how bad he wanted to be, he wasn't his last but his first. Buck interjected that they could be the same but T said they usually weren't. If he were to move in, Buck wouldn't mean to but he'd end up breaking T's heart and he didn't think he could deal with that. He got up to leave, saying he should go and Buck told him to wait and asked him if he had just broken up with him, to which T replied, "yes, I guess I did. Believe me, I didn't see it coming either. Should've known that parking spot was too good to be true. I'll see you around, Buck."
At last, free! But while the beginning of the conversation was terrible, it ended on a high note. There's a lot of questions, like: according to what he said, T knew there wasn't a future between them. So I'm guessing here that after six months, they hadn't actually discussed that because Buck was clearly on a different page. T knew they weren't long term while Buck was thinking of moving together and being together for good. Make it make sense, how were these two dating not knowing anything about each other and not discussing basic relationship stuff??? T knew that Buck had to figure himself out yet he was still with him hoping it'd be casual without actually talking about it??? Yet he later claimed he didn't see a break up coming and he could see his heart being broken?
Now, my shipper heart wants to believe the between-the-lines reading of this scene had Eddie written all over. Eddie is how it'll end... And the fact that T's answer to Buck's question contained the "guess" this time around, mirroring Buck's response to "my attention"... INTERESTING. It was all a guessing game between BT, It's also the first time he called Buck by his name, which was the first and probably last because we're not gonna see him ever again. I was glad Buck asked if they were done because we all know he got confused about it with Abby... So long, T, you will not be missed. Buck's loft door opened and later on, another did...
Finally, we had Eddie. My boy. Looking at himself in the mirror and getting rid of his disguise.
And then... I literally felt so many things at once, y'all! The music, the shot... I couldn't believe it was about to happen. And then the mole made an appearance and Eddie was wearing pink and tighty whities and I swear I couldn't. I just, even rewatching to write this... I love him so much!!!!!!!!!! I was so happy to see Eddie letting go of his disguise and allowing himself to have that joy. The fact that Ryan looked like that... I was fighting for my life the whole time, NEGL.
I kept thinking Buck was going to show up midway. I was truly bracing myself for it. But the doorbell rang. Eddie looked through the peephole. Buck was there. Eddie opened the door, nodded at him and Buck gave him a beer as an answer to an unasked question and got in. Eddie closed the door and looked at the beer, at Buck and at the beer again. He made a face and then climbed the sofa. Buck was already drinking when the camera panned to him. Eddie opened his beer and drank from it. Scene.
LISTEN. I was unhinged already because they had Ryan dancing like that. But then the final scene happened and I just... I don't know how I'll survive what I hope it's to come.
Let's break that one down:
Eddie decided to follow Brian's words. Eddie didn't forgive himself but he decided to stop punishing and disguising himself in the meantime.
The way Eddie looked at himself in the mirror, both before and after he shaved off his mustache... My heart!!!
Eddie allowed himself to do something frivolous, something fun, something that expressed pure joy. The fact that he chose to dance half naked around his house... that's very babygirl of him, and I don't say this lightly.
The pink... the moves like the ones from the bachelor party... I felt crazy.
I kept waiting for Buck to show up, like my mind was half insane at what I was seeing and half insane at the possibility of Buck seeing it as well.
The doorbell rang instead.
Why didn't Buck use his keys?
It was the perfect opportunity for Eddie to put on some pants. Eddie didn't do that… Neither before or after looking who it was.
But, really, why didn't Buck use his keys? WHY????????
Was it to hammer the fact that Eddie was comfortable opening up his door to Buck while not wearing pants?
Was it so Eddie could see him standing on the other side of the door, mimicking Brian's view of Eddie in the confessionary? Will there be something for Buck to confess in the future? To Eddie specifically???
Buck wasn't looking at Eddie when Eddie saw him behind the door, btw...
Eddie opened his door and they looked at each other and said not a word but understood each other perfectly.
I truly hate the continuity error with the shirt collar. It's gonna hunt me forever.
Buck made himself at home while Eddie considered the beer.
Remember how Eddie's choices were water or juice? Well, what about a third secret option? BEER. Buck's beer, in fact. INTERESTING.
I went nuts and will continue to go nuts at Eddie climbing the sofa. Whose choice was that? I need to know. It was so freaking cute!!!
The camera went steady and Buck was already drinking from his bottle. Eddie, on the other hand, uncapped the bottle like he did with the water, and the shot ended as he drank the beer.
The contrast in the colors of their clothes… the fact that Eddie was looking to the side while Buck was looking ahead.
Was all of this symbolic of the fact that Buck already figured his sexuality out while Eddie's just starting? I'd like to think so.
Was it symbolic of Buck reaching conclusions he'd later have to confess to Eddie before Eddie arrives to those same conclusions himself? I'd also like this very much.
Now, the episode was called "Confessions" and Buck and Eddie didn't speak to each other. Not a single word. Even in that last scene, the only one in which they actually interacted, they didn't use words to communicate.
I see this lack of dialogue between Buck and Eddie in two ways:
First, it could show how good a relationship Buck and Eddie have in order to not utter a sound and still get each other completely. Regardless of all the issues I had with the writing, I can safely say that Buck and T were the complete opposite and lacked communication all around. The space and lack thereof reflected this too. Buck and Eddie know each other so well and Buck went directly to sit down on the couch, waiting for Eddie. Eddie followed right behind. BT, though... Buck stepped away from their table and the whole conflict with T's dating history started. Buck sat very far from T at the loft and only got close to be broken up with. Incredibly enough, that final shot with Buck and Eddie sitting together at Eddie's couch was the first that ever happened... Maybe that's foreshadowing something else, like couch theory related stuff? I never really spiraled about it before but I might soon.
Second, it could indicate there's something Buck and Eddie aren't saying to each other. They didn't speak to each other because they can't -- they're not ready or aware that there is something to confess. They remained silent because it isn't time yet but if they were to confess something, it would be impossible to take back. It would change everything. It will.
This is a legit insane post. When I say they're driving me nuts, I mean it and this is proof. Even though it's the longest ever, I probably forgot stuff that I might add tomorrow.
Now please share your thoughts on the episode and Buddie and everything so I don't feel alone in my madness. <3
thought of calling you, but you won’t pick up • ttfd
chapter four of the tortured firefighters department
previous chapter | masterlist | next chapter
cw: fem!reader, afab!reader, no descriptions of reader, banter (because i love it), reader is a math and science nerd, chris is here, mentions of food, hints of mental issues, proofread by my bye-lingual ass (let me know if i forgot anything)
You checked your phone again. Last night, Eddie texted that Carla would be joining you and Chris on your small field trip because he forgot he had booked her for the day. You never met the lady, but you were sure it was gonna be fine. With an extra adult ticket in your pocket, you waited.
Fifteen minutes and no sign of them. Maybe you should text Eddie and get Carla’s number? She was probably stuck in traffic, but that information would ease your worries — and you could help her avoid the even worse routes the apps were giving these days. At this pace, you’d wear off the soles of your white Nike Dunk and pull every single thread of your maroon sweater.
You were about to text Eddie when you saw the black Jeep Wrangler parking not a few spots down to your left. No fucking way, you thought as you marched into its direction.
“Let’s go, Chris, we’re gonna be late!” Buck helped the kid out of the car and picked up a small paper bag before closing the door.
“Hey, Chris! Are you excited?” You hugged him and kept your hands on his shoulder, finally looking at the one person you’ve been successfully avoiding. “Thanks for dropping him off, Buckley. Is Carla joining us later?”
“Actually, I’m on babysitting duty today.” He extended you the paper bag. “Peace offering?”
“What is this?”
“The reason why we were late.” He insisted you accept the bag. “C’mon, aren’t you curious?”
“He said you’d like it,” Chris added.
You accepted the gift, peaking it before opening the bag and finding one of your favorite cupcakes from your favorite bakery. The one from the incident that set the whole “we could be friends” situation on fire.
“Can we call it a truce for today?” It was implied, but he was definitely saying this for Chris’ sake.
“Ok, just today. But this doesn’t make things magically disappear, Buckley.”
“Why do you call him Buckley?” Chris asked you, his head tilted in your direction. “I call him Buck!”
“She’s mad at me, little guy.” He took a step closer to you two, probably testing the waters. “Did you get the tickets?”
“Who do you think I am? But give me one second, I can’t enter the museum with food.”
“Take your time. Wanna see if we can get to the museum before Brains, Chris?” And off they went.
You were almost sure Eddie planned this out. Leaving you to babysit his son and his annoying friend, who everyone under the 118 roof knew you were avoiding. One hundred percent intentional, right? And of course he would be late because he drove all the way to Santa Monica to buy your favorite cupcake — someone gave him a tip.
You started to feel a bit sad for ignoring his calls and texts all week long. But you pushed it away while you ate the cupcake and watched the boys walking to the entrance. With your clean hand, you gave Buck the tickets and told them to go ahead and go all the way back after the main hall: it was smart to take advantage of the morning weather on the Nature Gardens outside and explore all the fossils and animals later on.
You were just a few steps behind when you caught up with them in the outdoor gardens. As a newcomer to this whole Chris’ babysitter duty job, you left to Buck to finish the small walk around the main paths. It was a good opportunity to text Eddie and say that, even though you offered to take Chris to the Museum, you were only assigned to take care of one kid, not two. In his best single-father in the middle of a shift style, he texted you a ‘thumbs up’ back. Oh he was so hearing about it later.
The Natural History Museum in Los Angeles was definitely packed with exhibitions that could keep a child and adults entertained. You’d been there once, as soon as you moved to LA, almost a year ago now, and the featured exhibitions were different back then, but still a pretty good curating work after all.
However, the moment Chris saw the Dinosaur Hall and the Dino Lab, you knew it was over for any other exhibitions. And could you blame him? The dinos were pretty badass and Chris was a very curious kid, so he kept asking you all the questions you could’ve imagined — and a few more you weren’t prepared for. You acted like his own private tour guide, proud of spending some time researching and studying about dinosaurs the last few days.
You almost missed all the attention Buck was giving to you while you talked. To be honest, you couldn’t tell who was more focused on you: the kid or the annoying adult.
After all that talking, you for sure were starting to feel a little tired and overwhelmed. Even with short breaks for some water, you still felt like you needed a reset. You signaled to Buck that you’re going to the restroom for a second, he kept reading Chris the charts about butterflies and insects.
You washed your hands and used some of the water on your neck, trying to calm yourself down. How did you go from wanting Buckley’s head on a plate to babysitting with him? Life was fast and unpredictable by the Pacific shore. One lady entered the restroom and stopped by the sink to your right, trying to get rid of the chocolate and ketchup in her hands. You saw her a few minutes ago, when you stopped to grab some water.
“Can I just say you are an adorable couple? And your son is so sweet.” Her tone was sweet and definitely meant well. But she was so wrong about everything.
“Oh, he’s not our kid,” you rushed to explain the situation. “We’re just babysitting for a friend while he’s working.”
“Well, just like my grandparents told me once: sometimes you’ll have a taste of what your life could be with a special person at the moment you least expected.”
You smiled at her through the mirrors. “Did they give you any advice on how to know if it’s the right one?”
“No, but you look like someone who knows how to find that answer.” She threw the paper towels away. “Sorry for being so cryptic. Have fun!”
She left before you could even thank her for… well, the advice. Not that you asked for it, but it did show up in a nice time. Or maybe not. You weren’t sure. Did that truce mean you could let yourself feel everything you were repressing for the past few weeks? Not just regarding Evan Buckley and his lack of manners, but about everything in your life.
After all the dinosaurs and lectures about natural history, you decided to wrap up and move on to the next stop on your list. Buckley helped Chris get down the entry steps and you took the directions back to the parking lot close to the museum.
“Thanks for your services, Buckley. You can just,” you motioned your head to his car. “Ok, Chris. What do you wanna do now?” You opened your Uber app to get a ride to the next destination.
“Not necessary.” Buckley took the phone out of your hands and stored it into his jacket pocket. “I’m also the designated driver for the day.”
“What happened to you getting out of my hair?” You crossed your arms over your chest.
“I thought we were in this together.” He gave you the classic — and a little bit sassy — Buckley smile. He paid for the parking. “C’mon, Chris, we have places to go.”
The three of you walked to his car, but you were still not convinced. It was your idea to babysit Chris for the day, all your plans were picked towards your goal: having a nice and chill day with him. You didn’t need Evan Buckley and all his golden retriever energy to disturb your perfect equation.
While you were hating on him, he made sure Chris was comfortable and safe on the back seat.
“Why are you ruining my plans?” You didn’t move from the driver’s door. Maybe, if you were warned beforehand you’d had to deal with him, you'd grow some patience. But not today, not this fast.
“I’m not. Still your plans with Chris. Tell me where to go next, I’ll drive us.”
“Give me my phone back.”
“Are you letting me be your driver today?” He leaned against the car.
“What choice do I have, Evan?” You rolled your eyes.
“Hey, I’ve told you I’m sorry.” You stepped aside, finally letting him grab the door handle. “Also, none of my friends call me Evan, by the way.”
“And since when am I your friend?”
“Since now. Hurry up, he’s gonna grow impatient and snap at us.”
“He would never do that.”
“Wanna test your theory, future doctor?”
“Not at all.”
He closed the door. You went around the vehicle, still pissed at him for taking your phone from you. You jumped into the car and checked Chris.
“Ok, are we hungry already or can we check out this cool place before that?”
“Pancakes!” Chris shouted from his seat. “Please?”
“Sure! Ok, let me just,” you instinctively reached out for your phone, but it was still being held hostage by Buck. “Phone, please.”
“Here,” he handed it to you, an aux cable attached to it. “Put the address in the GPS, and please play something kid friendly, ok?”
“Excuse me? What do you think I listen to while I’m driving to work?”
“With that sassy attitude of yours? I expect the worst.”
Just to prove him wrong, as soon as you entered the address on the GPS, you blasted one of your personal favorites. “I stay out too late, got nothing in my brain. That's what people say, mm-mm,” you sang.
“That's what people say, mm-mm,” and Chris, in the back seat, joined you.
You were definitely getting under Buck’s skin. The fact that you picked a song Chris knew the words too left him in disadvantage because you were sure he wanted the taste of saying “Told you so” as soon as he proved his point. But he should’ve known better than to provoke you.
“And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate. Baby, I’m just gonna shake, shake, shake. I shake it off!” You sang it right by Buck’s ear, dodging his hand because he was trying to get you out of his hair. Well, how does it feel now, Evan?
Your queue was really impressive: it looked like you were up-to-date with what the younger generation was listening to — not that you didn’t enjoy the same songs occasionally, but you never kept your options too narrow. There was just one scary moment where you thought you added an explicit song, but you deleted it in time.
Buck was too busy following the GPS directions. You were stuck with him for the rest of the day, which was a nightmare by itself, and kinda stuck into the endless LA traffic. Chris didn’t notice the animosity between you because you both toned it down — for him, only for one day. Most of it sounded like some friendly banter.
Under the upbeat pop song you were playing, you could hear him singing another tune, barely familiar, but still unrecognizable.
“What’s that?”
“Oh, nothing.” He made a left turn, but kept on singing it. “If you could see it… been here all along… how could you not know baby.”
Without a warning, you typed the name of the song in your library and gave it priority in your queue. His fingers started tapping in the beat, and he started following the lyrics, saying the right words this time.
“If you could see that I'm the one who understands you, been here all along. So, why can't you see? You belong with me,” you two sang along together. But you really kept your poker face because you couldn’t give him any reasons to be even more annoying.
“Looks like we’ve arrived,” he announced, breaking the spell of one song.
Buck pointed to the restaurant you found a few months ago. It was located south of Santa Monica, a few blocks from the beach, but with the rooftop seats, you could definitely say you were eating by the beach. You parked not far from the entry, and you rushed upstairs to get one of those special tables, telling Buck to help Chris because you didn’t want to ruin the surprise.
On the very edge of the roof, your favorite table awaited you: closer to the corner, with a huge light blue umbrella over your head, the four seat table had the perfect view and vibes. You pulled a chair for your bag and greeted the waiter. She didn’t get why you were in a rush until she saw Chris on Buck’s back.
“Could you just pick a place with an elevator next time?”
“I thought you were the muscles, Buckley. Hey, Chris, let me help you.” You held him tight, removing him from Buck’s embrace and putting him on the floor. “I had to make sure we had the perfect table.”
Three stores of stairs, in a rush, were justified once you got to see the smile on Chris’ face. You could catch your breath later.
+++
Chris ate way too many pancakes. You’d have to do a lot of explaining to Eddie, but hey, if the kid was happy, how could that be a problem?
You had to cancel the last plan of the day — a trip to another museum — and settle down at an arcade close to the restaurant before ending your babysitting duty. Just buying you enough time to Eddie leave the firehouse and be home. So you were watching Buck and Chris playing some games while you tried to schedule some study breaks between classes and shifts.
“What’s wrong?” Buck sat down to your right. Chris was just in your sight, in case he needed more coins or any help.
“Nothing.” You turned off your phone screen, ignoring your packed schedule.
“It doesn’t look like nothing.” He gave you a little smudge on the shoulder. “C’mon, Brains, talk to me.”
“I’m just a bit tired, it’s fine.”
“You know, you can go home now, I’ll take him to Eddie’s. You look like you need a good night of sleep.”
“To be honest, I can’t go back home now because I’d feel guilty. My brain is all mushy,” you pointed to your head, “and I wouldn’t be able to study or relax. I would rather stay here, where my mind is focused on something else.”
“I know what you mean,” he leaned his body back, his eyes staring something beyond what you could see. “I support you distracting yourself, but this won’t go away just because you’re ignoring it, you know? Are you sure you’re ok?”
Being ok was a concept you weren’t sure about the past few days. You wanted to be ok, to look ok to everyone around you, but it was hard. You were just faking until you made it. The PhD program was starting to wear you off, and even though you loved it, the thoughts of giving up were taking every single inch of your notes and books.
But what would be your excuse to leave it unfinished when numbers, probabilities and hours of understanding the impossible things were half of your life at this point?
“Did I hit my head or something? Do you have a fever? Why are you being nice to me?” You swiftly tried to change subjects.
“We’re on a truce, remember?”
“Maybe we could be on good terms again,” you suggested. “I mean, if you ever eat my cupcakes again, Bobby will need to hire a new firefighter.”
“So we’re good?”
“We’re good.” Your screen lit up with a notification. “Eddie is gonna be stuck with an emergency, but Carla is on her way to the house. Should we just go?”
“Yeah, sure. I’ll go get him and then we drop him off.”
“Great.”
Chris black out as soon as Buck started the drive back to the Diaz house. The radio volume was low, and the orange and pink tones of the sunset were being replaced by the dark blue of the night. You found it hard to keep your eyes open for too long, and only noticed you took a nap when Chris was calling for your name, wanting to say goodbye before going inside.
“Thank you for today, Brains!” He hugged you, and it made everything worth it. “Can we do this again soon?”
“We’re gonna chase all the dinosaurs in LA, I promise.” You gave him one last huge and walked back to the car, watching Carla and Buck talking by the front door.
And there you were, back in the car with Evan Buckley. If he wanted to make a comment about how he was right, he let it slide. You connected your phone and entered the address to your house on the GPS. He took your phone from your hands, declaring “Now that everyone in this car is over 18, we can play the good stuff.”
“Are you sure you are old enough? Give me that back, Evan!”
“Hey! I’m driving. And you challenged me. I’m gonna show you what I usually blast in my car.”
You expected anything from Evan Buckley, even the worst genre of music, but nothing prepared you for when you listened to the introduction of ‘You Give Love A Bad Name’ blasting through the speakers.
The playlist had completely changed and moved away from what you played when Chris was in the car. Bruce Springsteen, The Beatles, even a little of Led Zeppelin, just to enjoy some classics you never thought Buck appreciated. But he was more than just a firefighter with a sassy attitude, some wrongs and lots of muscle.
You look around, panicking a little when you notice you’re entering your building’s garage. You were definitely expecting to be dropped off at the front of the building. What the hell was going on?
“What… How did you get the access?”
“So, funny story. Maddie told you about the place, right?” He turned his head to check your reaction. “Well, I was the one that mentioned that a unit was available when I was complaining about my ex neighbor… So yeah, we are neighbors.”
“You’re annoying, you know that, right?”
“I thought Maddie told you.”
Well, she almost did, but she was interrupted by your neighbor himself that night. Shit.
“For how long did you know this?” You pointed to the garage and between you two.
“For a few weeks, when I saw your car after the cupcake incident.”
“I pledge the fifth.” You disconnected your phone from his car. Well, it would only get awkward if you walked to your apartment in complete silence, so you asked, “Wait, so you were texting and calling me from across the hall? You’re unbelievable.”
“What? If I knock on your door, you’ve got a restraining order against me.”
You left the car at the same time, and walked to the elevators.
“I bet I could convince Sergeant Grant to arrest you.”
“You’d make her dreams come true.”
Same elevator, same floor. You took opposite directions: his place was to the left, yours to the right, on the corners of the building, just one unit between you. You waved him goodbye and entered your home. To your right, your kitchen and dinner table. The glass doors to your balcony were opened — your mistake when you left in a hurry that morning — and it felt more like home than you expected.
Under the stairs, your notes and books were scattered. Sundays were for studying and writing the thesis. Your gray couch held the books you were searching the other day, too busy to put them back in the high and long bookshelves you had on the wall. Your television was the least used electronic in the place.
You walked upstairs and threw yourself in the bed. Maybe you should’ve picked up his calls before, but now it wasn’t a problem anymore.
My thoughts. Please don’t come for me.
Ever since that man is has been introduced back on our screens, and is now kissing Buck, it’s like we aren’t allowed to view Eddie anything other than, straight? It’s so interesting because we all over the years whether or not people shipped buddie, people viewed them as queer coded. Therefore, queer individuals identified and connect to their story. Now, we can’t because…… NOW it matters what’s canon in show? NOW, it matters what the actors say? REALLY NOW? Did we forget throughout the seasons, the SR and Oliver when discussing buck, classified him as straight… because at that time, he was. To buck and BuckTommy fans, you NEVER viewed buck as bi or queer coded DURING his previous relationships when he was CANONICALLY straight or when Oliver and co said he was straight in interviews? how he talked about his relationship with Natalia pre s7. Bi buck wasn’t even supposed to happen this season. So now they are tying to use Ryan’s comments as a “gotcha”…. They love to throw out the term “actual representation”.. but it’s like, you talk about “actual representation” but bi buck was simply a LAST MINUTE decision. They were gonna continue with buck and Natalia. But due to scheduling it fell though. Then it was gonna be buck and Lucy (same thing). Then Eddie and Tommy. AND THEN WE GET to buck and Tommy. They think Tim is master and this “great love story” but if that was the case, they would have planned them from the start. Not a last minute decision as Oliver admitted. Why have these scenes if you want the audience root for them. For example, their first date. Why include Eddie? Why make it awkward for buck. Why did Tommy leave buck stranded on the sidewalk looking like an idiot. It’s NOT Tommy didn’t have a right to leave. What we are saying is the “joke” wasn’t funny. Why even say it? Especially since Tommy is “so confident” Second, if Tommy knew he wasn’t ready, why continue with the date after buck made the “hot chicks” comment. He clearly saw and realized, and buck TELLING HIM. “THIS IS MY FIRST DATE WITH A DUDE, and IM AN ALLY”. Like…. It’s not rocket science. He led him on. Why not show the continuation of the date? They could have easily done that. But they mirror bucks and Natalias where they only showed like 5 minutes. Buck thought they were continuing with the date to go to the movie. Tommy couldn’t give him the benefit of the doubt. Especially he KNOWS what buck is going through… Tommy immediately, seconds after coming outside of the restaurant ordered the Uber and WAITED until he opened the door of the car to tell him. That’s fucked up and fuck him for that. Then they had buck apologize because he wasn’t ready to come out? LIKE HUH? Or Tommy’s continuation comments of being jealous of buck, the 118, and the way he belittles buck. “Enjoys while it lasts” after earning his medal? Like do you have to be a POS. WHY WHY for the life of me, have his LI say that if you have the audience to like him. The “daddy joke”. Really? In ANY other context, awesome! But there? I simply can’t. The way I have been watching since s1 and have never seen this much pushback to like a character or couple. None of bucks previous LI had this many “defenders”… AND HE ONLY HAS LIKE 15 minutes of SCREEN TIME. It’s weird.
Now, the plot hole that is 7x04 What stopped buck from reaching out to Tommy after the air hanger. NOTHING? He never called or texted… also, idk if anyone realized buck Tommy knew he was goi he to hang out with Eddie, and YET CONTINUED to invite buck… why show us the last maybe minute before they begin to talk about Eddie and where Eddie is NOW in the frame. Why didn’t they show the beginning where buck comes and meets Tommy? Buck getting upset at Eddie circling the basketball game? Buck grilling Christopher on his thoughts about Tommy? When did he care about Christophers thoughts before about his dads girlfriends or friends? Accusing Tommy of lying to get bonus points with Chris. You think he truly cared which movie is better? Why does he try to make him a bad guy to Maddie? He really didn’t have the time to talk to Eddie to go to the basketball game? Really? You mean to tell he HAD to wait until the gym scene? Or hell… even ask Tommy. When he does talk to Maddie after hurting Eddie, he says “i felt left out”. So that tells me something, he felt left out over not being able to do things with Eddie. the fact that buck didn’t know they were hanging out for 2 weeks? Not that he was trying to get Tommy’s attention
Weekly Recap | June 3rd-23rd 2024 ~ Podfics
Had to split the fic rec cause Tumblr couldn't handle how long it was 😅
Podfic
[Podfic] i want your midnights by Cass_Caelis/ @cassiopeiacaelis for heartbeatdiaz/ @loserdiaz (New Years Eve, First Kiss | 10-20min | Teen): Buck wasn't expecting his exes to show up at the New Year's party and he certainly wasn't expecting all of them wanting to kiss him at midnight. He only has one person in mind that he actually wants to kiss.
[podfic] trade amber clay roads for the sea foam by Matriaya // fic by @hattalove (Post-S5 | 10-20min | Teen): “It’s the thirty-seventh couch you’ve looked at today,” Eddie finally replies, trying to ignore the headache settling into his temples. “And I'm gonna guess there's something wrong with—what, the headrest?” Buck blinks at him. “It's the feet,” he mumbles, his gaze falling to the floor. “They're weirdly shaped.” in which buck is finally ready to buy a couch, except he doesn't seem to actually want one.
we made these memories for ourselves by half_bakedboy [Podfic] by Rhea314 (Rhea)/ @rhea314 // fic by half_bakedboy / @half-bakedboy (Love Confession, Chris&Buck | 10-20min | General): Buck (accidentally) starts a baby box for Christopher and Eddie finds out.
🔥 [podfic] the sound of love astounds me by All_I_Ask/ @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove for fleetinghearts/ @shitouttabuck (Getting Together | 10-20min | Teen): “All the more reason to sleep,” Eddie presses. Buck looks at him, blinking tiredly. “Okay,” he says, suddenly amenable, rounding the couch and climbing onto it. He drapes himself across it, settling on his back and shoving his head into Eddie’s lap with a contented sigh. Eddie sits frozen, book in one hand and the other hovering over Buck’s chest. or, there’s not a lot eddie wouldn’t do for buck
🔥 [podfic] share this hour of make-believe by All_I_Ask/ @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove for fleetinghearts/ @shitouttabuck (Quarantine, Getting Together | 10-20min | General): or, quarantine finds eddie sharing a bed with a pillow-thief and sleep-talker. he minds less than he thinks.
🔥 [Podfic] you knew the password (so I let you in the door) by RhetoricalQuestions/ @rhetoricalk // fic by lilythesilly / @lilythesilly (Post-S2 | 20-30min | General): “Last year,” he starts again, “We had this really rough call and Bobby—well, Hen and I went to check on him. We didn’t break down the door or anything because Hen had a key to his apartment.” His throat clicks when he swallows. “Said that they had keys to each other’s places in case one of them couldn’t make it home. And I don’t know I—it sounded nice. To have someone looking out for you like that. Just in case.” Eddie seems to come to a decision about something, because he nods once before pulling a key off of his own keyring and handing it to Buck. “Sounds nice to me too.” Or, Buck gives Eddie a key to his loft.
[podfic] but it feels like a fortress when the weather gets bad by TheBoyWhoWalksInTheLight/ @aro-of-artemis (Post-3x15: Eddie Begins | 20-30min | Teen): Turning his face to the side, his eyes landed on the collection of house keys that sat in a bowl on his counter. A key for his apartment, one for Maddie’s, the key to his Jeep and one for Eddie’s front door. Eddie had given it to him one day as though it were the simplest decision in the world. “Y’know. In case you ever need to watch Chris or something. Or in case of emergency.” OR Buck has a nightmare about Eddie dying, but he also has a key to Eddie's house.
🔥 Relationship Advice from Complete Strangers Online by HMSLusitania [Podfic] by Rhea314 (Rhea)/ @rhea314 // fic by @hmslusitania (Getting Together | 20-30min | Teen): When he gets home for the night, Buck turns to the one source of information that’s never let him down: the internet. But where does one go for relationship advice from complete strangers online? Which is how, ten minutes later, he finds himself on Reddit with a shiny new account and username. It takes him a while after that to craft his question for r/Relationships, but he thinks he’s got it pretty accurately conveyed before he hits post.
🔥 [PODFIC] Into the Unknown by TheyReadWhatWeSow (TheyReapWhatWeSow) // fic by benjaminrussell (Canon Divergent, S4 | 30-45min | Teen): Buck is cursed. Cursed to have visions of the future but for no one to believe him. Over the years he’s got used to working around it, until one day, the 118 gets a new firefighter who believes him without question. Okay, Eddie does have some questions, but he believes Buck, and that’s the important thing. But then Buck wakes to a vision of Eddie getting shot. Will he able to prevent his vision from coming true or is he destined to lose the one person who believes him?
🔥 [podfic] I Opened My Eyes and There You Were by All_I_Ask / @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove (Post-S3, Getting Together | 30-45min | Explicit): In which Buck provides the dots and Eddie finally connects them.
🔥 [podfic] i have dreams where i kiss you and it’s pink by All_I_Ask/ @alliaskisthepossibilityoflove for fleetinghearts/ @shitouttabuck (Getting Together, Fluff | 45-60min | Teen): or, jee-yun buckley-han's third birthday party is in dire need of some fairy tale magic and buck's attempt to save the day might just be the thing that finally kills eddie
[podfic] fall right into me by Matriaya // fic by therainbowsedge / @therainbowsedge (PWP | 45-60min | Explicit): They plan the evening on a Tuesday afternoon while on their way back to the station from a call. “Wait.” Buck waves his hand in the air to pause the conversation. “You’ve never smoked weed?” “I’m a firefighter,” Eddie says like that’s an answer to Buck’s question. OR: Buddie gets high.
🔥 The Red Means I Love You by EtoileGarden [Podfic] by Rhea314 (Rhea)/ @rhea314 // fic by @etoilegarden (Post-S4, Angst | 2-2.5h | Mature): How stupid was it that a song that freaked him out so badly was still catchy enough that his brain decided to just play it on random repeat? He held it together for long enough to set the washing machine, to press start, to stumble upstairs to his bed, to lie down. For weeks and weeks after Eddie had been shot, Buck kept dreaming of different endings to the scene. Most of them involving Eddie just dying right there on the tarmac, just out of Buck’s reach. Buck trying to hold him together in the back of the engine even though Eddie was already gone. Buck begging him to stay, to stay, to hold on, please hold on, and Eddie letting go. ~ Eddie's left the 118 and Buck is definitely coping with that.
🔥 [Podfic] listen to you breathing (is where I wanna be) by Itty_Bitty_Blondie/ @itty-bitty-blondie // fic by Yavilee/ @theladyyavilee (Major Character Injury, Angst, Getting Together | 4-4.5h | Teen): The thing is – and Eddie should have known this, has been taught this cruel lesson over and over and over again – the thing is most of the time the worst day of your life will start like just any other day. A million small moments, so familiar and mundane you almost don’t even notice them slipping by - until you would give anything to go back and get just one more. (You can’t.) - Or the one where Buck is presumed dead after a building collapse and Eddie has to live through the reminder that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone
CRANBERRY IS BACK 🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮🦮
Also I’m so excited to see thirsty Eddie this is gonna be fun!! 💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪💪
HELL YEAH SHE IS!
48 for 🦮:
Buck’s jaw drops. “Tomorrow?”
“Yes,” she winces. “I know. I just… I don’t know. Eddie was away, and I didn’t want you to find out on your own.”
“Because you knew I wouldn’t like it,” Buck replies.
“Well, yeah,” she admits. “And, I wasn’t completely sure they were coming.”
“Why?” Buck asks. “Why are they coming, Maddie?”
Maddie sighs. “I guess I just… Want my little girl to have a normal family. You know, uncles and grandparents that she might actually know.”
Buck pinches the bridge of his nose, biting back the urge to make a snippy comment about choosing a partner who had one, then.
“I guess I can understand the desire,” Buck admits. “I’m just not sure they are capable of it.”
She sighs. Again. What’s with all the sighing? This was her choice.
“You could come to dinner,” she says. “Bring Eddie and Chris. Bring Cranberry. You have a family, Evan. A life. Don’t you want them to see that?”
Does he? He’s not actually sure. It never seemed necessary before. They sure as hell have never cared to see it, so why should he care to show it? He lost a leg. They could have come and seen him then. If he ever needed parents, it was then.
They’ll blame you for that, a little voice in his head says. Especially her.
Buck takes a steadying breath.
“You really want me there?” He asks.
“Of course I do,” Maddie replies. “And so do they, Evan. I think I’m willing to try. It seems like Mom and Dad are too.”
“Fine,” he grumbles. “But we’re a team, okay? A-a united front. And we are not allowed to leave Christopher alone with them.”
45 for 💪:
---
Confessed some very scary feelings to his best friend. And as a result? Things are going great.
Until right now. Until this exact moment.
Right now, it’s beyond clear to Eddie that he’s totally fucked.
See, the thing is, Eddie is totally, stupidly into Buck. Not that being into Buck is stupid. It’s just that, the amount of into Buck he is, is bordering on embarrassing. It’s like once he let himself accept that the feelings he had for Buck weren’t platonic, the floodgates were open. And he hasn’t found a way to shut them yet. Even briefly. Even for, like, work.
Which is where he is. Right now.
At a public firehouse and his place of employment.
Two days ago, Eddie had asked Buck out. Sort of old fashioned of him, maybe. Considering they’ve gone through more together than most married couples can say, even before either of them came out as queer. But alas. Eddie is new to the whole openly gay thing, and he’s not trying to put pressure on himself. So he told Buck how he felt. Asked him out. Asked if they could take it slow.
Buck was wonderful. Of course Buck was wonderful. Buck is wonderful. He’s kind and patient when he needs to be - even though Eddie knows it’s not his default - and incredibly empathetic. He’s also insanely fucking hot. And that’s sort of the problem today.
Their date is on their next day off. Over twenty-four hours from now. But ever since they planned it, Eddie has been… Well, eager. His imagination was getting a little carried away in anticipation. He wanted a lot more from Buck than dinner and a stroll down the boardwalk. Even if he was the one who had asked for restraint. In other words, he’s relentlessly horny, beholden to boundaries he set, and still in for a full shift of work with the man making him relentlessly horny. So, yeah. Grave? Dug.
In an attempt to filter his energy elsewhere, Eddie goes to the station gym before the beginning of his shift. Like, far before.
Why i am so excited to have the Bucktommy storyline
Buck, the wild child, the hot head, overthinker, the talker, always a little much, but thats him, and he is so so loved.
He is the little brother of his found family, and in their heads he will allways be just that, so he gets all these backhanded compliments, like
" he doesnt know your an Idiot yet, but he will love you anyway like we all do"
He is such a competent person/firefighters but sometimes he doesnt get taken serious because his ideas doesnt seem thought trough, and it looks like He is just doing stuff without thinking, but thats his neurodivergent brain, people with Adhd sometimes dont have the words for their Plans and Action, they just know it (its like that With my Brain, i dont say everybody is like this)
And then we have his past realtionships,
Abby, she really really liked him, but she had her own demons to deal with, she couldnt be what Buck needed.
Allie, she knew what she gets herself into, so she broke it off before she could really fall for him and i think thats very honorable.
Taylor got Buck, she knew exactly who he is, and she was there for him, but maybe they were to similar, i dont think it would have worked out in the long term.
Natalia, well, cant say much about her.
Our boy just wants to come home to somebody that gets him, not just says that, but really really gets him, shows up for him, takes him seriously and is his person.
And yes we could debate that he has Eddie, these two have a wonderfull friendship, and i admire that. Its deep, its vunerable, they are there for each other, both need eachother, and they trust eachother, its beautiful.
But for now, its exactly that, its a beautiful friendship.
(side note... The will? That doesnt make Buck a coparent, it makes him Chris' godfather basically)
And now to his current realtionship, Tommy. I think its perfect, and the first thing i want to point out, the comunication. Buck is a talker, but no comunicator, if people dont tell him exactly what they think, he is gonna asume what they think, and well, when was that ever a good thing right? There are a lot of examples where Bucks missing comunication turned into Problems.
Tommy does comunicate, i mean... He drive to his loft before his shift, to clear the air. After He kisses him, he doesnt run away, he asks him if that was okay and then asks him out on a date. Do we have to talk about the date? He was smooth, polite and open, he didnt run away before he cleared it up to him "your adorable but i dont think your ready" comunication my friends! The Coffee meet up? " you allready know i am interested" I mean how much clearer can it get? And also that he told him that the Coffee wasnt what he would order, its a small thing but i think its just as honest and important.
And he Shows up for him, Bachelorparty and wedding! He is there because of him. The scene where Buck looks on his phone before Tommy arrives? I could feel those butterflys, *somebody is here because of me* such an amazing feeling.
I could go on and on on how amazing the character choice of Tommy is but then this would get far too long, i am Sure there are a lot of posts that point out why its so cool to have an "old" Character back.
To get back to the start, Buck is loved, he is a Idiot but with a heart of gold, truly a golden Retriever.
But its the difference between *Buck, your such an Idiot, i love you anyway* to *i love you because you are an Idiot, Evan* that makes it for me.
Thanks for reading until here, i needed to get that out, feel free to add points!
And dont get me wrong, if Buddie is gonna Happen some day, i am 100% here for it because i trust the writers.
But for now i enjoy this mature and hopefully domestic realtionship for buck storyline waaay to much <3
Season 5 reaction
5x01 and Buck and Eddie are already acting like a married couple lmao. But i can understand where the panic attack Eddie had came from. Buck is now just like a concerned husband
5x02 and Clipboard Buck! I love Clipboard Buck! And naturally the way to Buck’s heart is through the kids in his life. He is so precious. And he immediately picked up on Eddie’s panic when Ravi assumed Ana was Eddie’s wife. And then in the firetruck when Buck is talking about the zoo we learn that Buck takes Chris there all the time. Buck is Chris’ dad, and no one can tell me otherwise lol. And Eddie looks so proud. And Bobby is such a dad. Love him. And him and Athena are so cute together
Also, Eddie breaking up with Ana? That scene was also done well. And Eddie acknowledged that he was stringing her along, which is great. Terrible that he did it, but great that he admitted to it
And i just wanna point out that Kenny is such an amazing actor. The emotion he conveys during this whole arc of Maddie leaving is just… whew. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. Also, i should have known that Buck knew. I do get Chim’s frustration. The punch shocked me ngl. But, i can see why he did it. I dont think punching was the answer, but like i said. I see why it happened. And naturally Eddie is the one he calls for help the next day. They are husbands your honor
5x05. I LOVE RAVI. “Probie, if you’re gonna vomit do it somewhere else.” “Copy!” *Scurries off.* I love him lmao
And Buck’s panic in 5x06 when he hears the gun shot. He immediately feared that Eddie had been shot again and ran out as fast as he could. And Bobby getting breakfast with Ravi 😭. I love Dad Bobby moments. And speaking of dads, Eddie and Chris 🥹. He loves his kid so much and my heart cant handle it
And Michael wanting to propose to David in 5x08!! The whole montage of the rings and outfits is so funny and i love them so much. And im so happy David said yes!!
The scene in 5x09 where May walks into Bobby and Athena is also fucking hilarious. And Bobby’s little shuffle to the bedroom is just so quirky. And then when he goes “why does this keep happening to you?” Then interrupts Buck and says “No. I’m gonna tell you why.” Bobby is Buck’s dad and i love him so much for it
And later Buck called Eddie out for watching telenovelas and it was so domestic. And Eddie was eating up the drama between Clive and Toni. He just loves it lol. And the episode made me dislike Taylor less. But i really feel like Buck said The Words just cos she did. I dont feel like they were genuine. That might just be me tho
Then in 5x10, Eddie is decorating with Chris and he is just doing as Chris says cos he wants him to be happy and im just melting. This man loves his kid so much and it just makes me so happy. Then Hen’s “baby’s first Christmas” comment to Buck made me chuckle, then I got distracted by the Appa plushie that someone handed Bobby. I love my flying bison sm. And Taylor asked Bobby if Buck would like the sweaters! Everyone knows that Bobby is Buck’s dad! And later Eddie is talking to Buck about Chris’ nightmare. Husbands. They both love their kid so much
Eddie looks so miserable at the beginning of 5x11 ☹️. Baby boy just wants to be fighting fires with his boyfriend. But dinner with Eddie, Chris, Buck, and Taylor kinda surprised me honestly. But ig it makes sense. “You dont need to pretend with me.” Ok. Imma cry now. Thats so sweet wtf. But he misses the 118 and feels left out and i feel for him. Also, drunk Buck is so funny lmao. And Hen is like another sister.
I can understand that Eddie is frustrated that Bobby isn’t letting him back into the 118 yet, but bringing up Bobby’s past like that was totally uncalled for
Im glad that Buck finally told Taylor about the kiss in 5x13, but i didnt even think about how he was kinda trapping her so she couldnt leave, which is. Not great. But i guess they are wanting to work through it so thats good. But the ending with Eddie’s breakdown made me wanna cry. He is going through so much and he wants to get better but he keeps hitting rough patches. But having Buck there to support him and Chris is so sweet and i love that Buck is willing to have those hard convos with Eddie.
And the breakfast scene in 5x14 with Chris and Eddie? These two have a special place in my heart and i cannot handle it lmao. And of course i type that only for it to be a nightmare 😭. But father figure Bobby also has my heart. And the scene with the heart drawings. So domestic
And Karen in 5x15 is so cute. “To catch a thief!” I love her lmao. And Eddie is learning from therapy! Im so proud of him! And Buck was giving total puppy energy during the wedding call. I love him so much.
And in 5x16 Bobby called May his kid!! Excuse me while i cry. And the Eddie/Linda friendship is just so, idk, refreshing? Idk if that is a good word for it but i really like the idea of him being friends with everyone at dispatch. My boy needs to get out there lol. Josh is also such a flustered homosexual and like. Me too. And Eddie was so ready to be back in firefighter mode. Buck being completely clueless about what to not say to a patient then Eddie just. Shaking his head. And May calls Bobby her dad 😭😭😭
5x17: Buck messing with Chris’ dinosaur while Eddie is packing, man there is just something so domestic about it. And the Chim and Hen friendship is so funny i love it so much. And i just really dislike Taylor. Also i know that we call Buck the golden retriever, but Eddie looked like such a kicked puppy when we was talking to his dad. But im glad they had a conversation and they want to do better
5x18: Im glad to see Eddie acknowledging how bottling things up isnt good, even if its in his joking manner. “I dont have your bone structure. I could never pull it off.” Bro im DEAD. Thats so funny to me. And my boy Ravi. Talking about having a partner is about knowing that they will have your back. Buck, takes notes. Cos who’s back did you promise to have? Hmm?? Then Buck talks about partners being at their lowest together and still working together and growing together. If that isnt foreshadowing idk what is. And Eddie is back at the 118!! Obviously i knew it was gonna happen but im still happy
And thats that for season 5! I dont really have any other additional thoughts, just that with things that happened in season 7, it just feels like there was some foreshadowing for Buddie. But i think we all know that
As always, feel free to discuss!
Omg 💒💒💒
💒 - the Fake Married Fic
Titled: "All They Keep Asking Me (Is If I'm Gonna Be Your Bride)"
or alternatively called: 3 times Eddie let people believe he and Buck were married, + 1 time Buck found out, + 1 time Buck cleared the air + 1 time it wasn’t a lie.
----------
The two of them made their way down to the field in a painfully awkward stilted silence. As they reached the bottom of the field, they both waved at Christopher who was standing in line. As the court was marched out onto the field, Eddie glanced over at Buck who was standing still- jaw clenched.
“Eddie,” he said softly. “Why did Mr. Willis call me your husband?”
“I- uh,” Eddie stammered over the lump in his throat. “I might have told him we were married.”
Buck stayed silent, still staring directly forward as Eddie watched him. The voice of Chris’s principal boomed over the field. He turned his attention towards his son, taking his phone out to record the moment. It wasn’t long until the Homecoming princes and princesses of both 6ht and 7th grades had been announced, and it was Chris’s turn for the 8th grade court. Eddie felt his stomach churning- both in anticipation for his son, and in fried nerves for his best friend standing next to him.
The tension eased a little bit when Chris’s name was called as homecoming king, both Buck and Eddie cheering him on as he gleefully accepted the sash, crown, and boutonniere from one of the teachers. He turned to face them, waving at them with the widest grin on his face.
One of the moms from Chris’s class leaned over to them. “He looks so handsome. You two must be so proud!”
Eddie couldn’t bring himself to reply, Buck swooping in immediately.
“We are,” Buck smiled widely. “Very, very proud.”
“You two did good with him,” she continued, almost rubbing salt in the wound she didn’t know was there. “My husband and I are always hearing stories from Molly about how funny and nice Christopher is… especially when other boys their age can be so cruel.”
“Well, we didn’t want him to be a heartbreaker,” Buck told her. “There’s nothing worse than someone you can’t fully trust, so I’m glad to hear that Christopher is living the way we’ve tried hard to raise him.”
It feels pointed- like every word drives another knife into Eddie’s heart. He should have known this would hurt Buck- that Buck would get weird and freak out. It’s exactly why Eddie hadn’t wanted to tell him. He knew Buck didn’t feel the same, and wouldn’t want to mess up their friendship like this.
Molly’s mom walked away, leaving the two of them alone. Eddie turned to face Buck, opening his mouth to speak before Buck cut him off preemptively.
“Did you do it to pick on me?” he asked.
“What?” Eddie’s brows furrowed.
“I mean- someone had to have told you,” Buck scoffed. “Was it Hen? Chimney? God, I knew telling him was a bad idea. I just guess I never thought you would play a nasty prank on me about it if you found out.”
“Buck, what are you…” Eddie’s voice came out broken.
“Save it, Eddie, I can’t-” Buck sighed. “I can’t talk to you right now, I- just… I can’t.”
Let’s discuss how much Bobby said to Eddie when talking about Shannon “how did you make that happen?” And eddie responds “i didn’t”. Are we to believe Eddie, didn’t make the first move? Just like Ana and Marisol; he HAD to be forced/told into it? We know that got together at 14 and pregnant at 18. Were they together the whole time? How stable was their relationship before finding out she was pregnant?
See this is why an Eddie begins again episode is a psychological need as part of his queer arc
Like there is such an interesting thing abt the Shannon and Eddie dynamic where you have to distinct what parts are the truth of it and what parts are the glossed over romanticised in her death version
Also the comp het element of Eddie is just sooooo blatant and like interesting because it’s one of those where it’s not a leap or even a really buried and hard to dissect thing that’s like sprinkled every now and then, instead it’s like a consistent “hidden” piece woven into all of Eddie’s narratives, you know what I mean?
But back to Shannon and Eddie as you said like we know the whole getting together young and the pregnant young pieces and we also know that at some point they RECONNNECTED so there was a period where they were friends or knew eachother then not then reconnected and then got together then got pregnant
See but then it gets more complex because we have Eddie saying things about how they were magic together when we saw a really different marriage dynamic and then you have him say that the church is the biggest reason they got married in a convo about his catholic guilt, you have him say he positive things about being married to her but you know as the audience that he spent most that time separated or fighting, and even when he says that he liked being married to her it comes off more as a liking to be married rather than liking the marriage or the person you’re with
And even when he was daydreaming that post sex scene nothing about it is inherently sexual or about them in fact the whole conversation is about how he is choosing to let her back into Christopher’s life and “giving him his mom back for Christmas” like people use that scene as a “straight Eddie defence” saying it’s him fantasising about sex with his ex but I’m sat there like brother in Christ watch the actual scene how is this sexy talk or anything other than proof that in Eddie’s sick little brain (affectionate) Shannon and therefore Kim can complete this idea of what he needs for his son
Also controversial opinion that I THINK I mentioned before but I’m really not a fan of Shannon, like the way she spoke about Chris and his CP will never not rub me the wrong way (to put it lightly) and her leaving with zero contact imo makes me low-key hate her and I hate the comparison ppl try to make for when Eddie “left” and this kinda links in with the next part
I think that the show keeps doing too much retcon/romanticisation of Shannon’s character in relation to not only Eddie but Chris too, but they can sorta mend that in a really perfect way by having some sort of onscreen perhaps in therapy acknowledgement from Eddie that he does in fact romanticise her and their relationship since her death while diving into why he does that and what their relationship ACTUALLY was like
Like what’s really interesting to me also connecting to the comp het element is that Eddie as a character is not passive, but when you get into his LI relationships there is this like compliance and like conformity to them
Like by his own words he didn’t pursue Shannon, he also married her largely cos of the church and despite having really ott romantic ideas for chimney’s proposal suggesting that he does have a side of that, he actually admits his proposal was pretty much well guess we have to get married now, when talking about Ana he canonically was following Chris’ heart not his, said something about “gonna have to stick it out” when talking abt her, then we have marisol and that mess and have lines like the catholic guilt, him not being that sad about potentially breaking up with her, him not having said anything to indicate to bobby he wanted to move in with her, etc, etc and we have Kim and that mess which honestly is its own category outside of the LI list
But yeah like totally agree with you like the shannon/eddie thing is in desperate need of a real unraveling in the show out loud preferably in therapy with Frank because that man needs to pull his weight fr 🤩
I have a degree in yappology fr
"Masks" - A few things about tonight's episode and what's ahead
~9-1-1 spoilers ahead~
Let me get this out of the way first: Eddie sucking on that ring pop... I never understood the "don't ask me the color of anything" and "babygirl" concepts more than I did then. Also: both Buck and Eddie having the same Christmas picture of them with Chris and abuela? I'm fine. The ending montage with Eddie being alone looking at his pic from Halloween with Chris... no, I'm really, I'm okay.
The BuckandEddie of it all:
It's interesting that they kept pairing Eddie up with other members of the team during calls but Eddie was all over Buck still. Like... they are partners, and they continue to be like at the pumpkin call (LUBE? PLEASE, I AM BEGGING), but Eddie was with Buck at the hospital (both for Buck and Denny) and at Buck's loft and at the station too.
Buck and Eddie are always entangled in each other's business but this season's been like a whole other level. The framing, the dialogue, everything about them is pointed as fuck and it's no coincidence (the lube, I can't get over it!!!), of that I'm sure.
This episode, which had a lot of Buck and T, had a ton of Eddie in between them which allowed us to see their dynamic and it was a sight. We had Eddie in the hospital room, by Buck's bedside, asking the doctor questions, while T was on the other side of the door, observing. Eddie was there to tend to Buck's boils and reassure him it'd be fine and even bet and shake on it to try and keep Buck from spiraling while T was just... there. Eddie was apparently distracted on his phone, sucking on a freaking ring lollipop (looking at Buck like that!!!!!) but he was actually well in tune with Buck and what he was doing and Buck protested his boyfriend's claims that he had been picking on his boils but he didn't argue with Eddie about it at all.
So yeah, Buck has a boyfriend that could fit right in, being a firefighter and getting more into the 118's business and sharing time with Buck and his BFF in the whole wide world. This episode showed in part how T didn't fit exactly right (why were they not sleeping on the bed, I'm so confused...), how Buck realized that and sent him a message that he wanted him to. And I think they will make it past the next episode, actually, because I have a feeling that if tptb are going where we all think/want them to go with Eddie, they might want to establish that on its own.
And they would also want to do what Oliver said and take it slow on the Buddie front, and I know it's been slow enough, but Oliver and Ryan have alluded to wanting the story to develop naturally and to not have them be bi/gay and into each other because of the message that could send. I have a feeling that means reaching Buddie after both have time to go through self-realizations away from each other and having Buck be in a relationship actually serves that scenario better. At least for a little while, then they can let the pining begin.
Some other things:
The thing about this show that I both adore and dislike is that I know every main is gonna be okay (there was only ever one exception to this) and they're not going to kill one of their children either. So I simply couldn't get into the mindset of feeling sad over Denny dying because I knew he wasn't going to.
I love that we got more HenRen and I wish next time Karen and Eddie share a scene, it'll be a less tragic one. I love Denny so much, the actor is so good and such a cutie, I'm glad he got to shine. It's also funny that once you get old enough in the show, you're fair game to be in harm's way. Rite of passage.
Chim was so scary and cute and great as well. I just think Kenny's so good at everything and the show sometimes failed to properly take advantage of his skills so I'm glad they're finally getting to showcase his range fully and all at once.
Peter was also having the time of his life being a carefree version of Bobby, and I'm here for it.
Josh's whole costume being Eddie's mustache. Plus Buck also having one. Ryan, the man that you are.
Maddie, once again, going for the kitty ears.
The teacher... I know her pain.
About the next episode ~more spoilers~:
They really are having an "Eddie Begins" type of emergency on an episode called "Confessions" which will focus on Eddie. I'm sure it's gonna be just fine. I'm sure nothing major will happen with my favorite character in the world, Eddie Díaz. I'm sure.
#spoilers#911 ABC#911#Buddie#Buck and Eddie#Eddie Diaz#Evan Buckley#911 Meta#Manu watches#Ryan Guzman#Oliver Stark#realchemistry#911 spoilers#I have so many thoughts#I actually wrote them down this time#yay!!!#so much has happened today#no rest for the wicked truly#like all the Buddie and the Ryliver and the Eddie and the Ryan and Oliver's interviews and everything#I'm okay#not going through a crisis over it or anything#it's just fiction#I'm an adult#I can handle this fine#the framing in the hospital#I need to screencapture it or something#it was unhinged
re the does eddie know he can say no anon: i've observed that the show isn't always all too sure about understanding consent is for men too... dr wells, anyone? maybe it's not fair to bring up season one stuff because the show transformed so dramatically in season two, but... yeah... buck's you'll get through it somehow kinda took me out of that excellent scene
I need to put these two together, because you don't wanna get me started on Buck and consent because I will go on for hours and I will piss everyone off because I'll bring up shit no one wants to think about so I choose to rant about that only to my dishes, but at the same time that "you'll get through it somehow" made the "joke" more devastating, because, surprise, surprise Evan Buckley also has no idea what consent means. The whole thing with Buck sleeping with his therapist is wild and extremely poorly handled, but why is sex something these men are just "getting through"????????? Why is the fear of saying no to his girlfriend makes Eddie spend THREE EXTRA HOURS AT WORK AND CONSIDER JUST STAYING IN THE LOFT UNTIL THE RESPONSIBILITY TOWARDS CHRIS FORCES HIM BACK TO THE HOUSE??????? Like? Did he at any point think to himself "huh maybe I should just say no"? No, he did not. And it didn't occur to Buck either to just say "you know you can say no, right?" because neither one of them knows they can say no to sex or sexual advances or literally anything in their lives because they have this fucked up sense of what's right and they're supposed to do and Eddie has this fucked up idea of what it means to be a man and that he can't do things for himself and to Buck his body is just something. The implications of Eddie hiding from sex and Buck and the "you'll get through it somehow" are devastating in the grand scheme of things. It's fucked that the show doesn't deal with male consent more carefully. Because they dropped the ball BAD on episode 2 and never thought to correct that. And this episode with Eddie, now all I can think about is the way that this man's sense of responsibility transfers to sex and he thinks he has to get through with it even if he's uncomfortable. Like, seriously, what the fuck are they doing with these implications? Like, we knew Eddie also had a fucked relationship with sex, he and Shannon were using sex to avoid shit, so he uses sex to avoid shit but this adds such a devastating layer to Eddie's relationship with sex. And it's probably gonna stay as something played out as a joke and seriously here all what the fuck.
