New Fic: Promising Light
It's almost midnight, but I DID IT. I hope you all enjoy!
Summary:
Buck and Eddie fall asleep drunk and in separate rooms after the night of Buck and Tommy's breakup. They wake up seven years later, in an unfamiliar future, only to find out that they're married.
Snippet:
Confirming his suspicions, Buck rolls over to face the person cuddling him, breaking the embrace and the more, uh, intimate contact. To his immense and stomach churning confusion, it’s Eddie. Sleepy and groggy, eyes not even open. But still. Eddie.
Holy fuck.
“Eddie?” Buck demands.
Eddie’s eyes snap open.
There’s a brief moment where Eddie is sort of frozen. Like a deer in the headlights. Then, he goes a bit pale. He looks down at his erection. Then, he rolls back away from Buck like Buck has burst into flames.
“What the fuck?” He demands.
“I didn’t…” Buck struggles. “I don’t even remember… How?”

I have come here from twitter 🫶🏻
⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅
⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅⛅
HELLO THANK YOU! I NEED MORE OF THESE!
72 for ⛅:
---
Basically, get over it. I know that’s pretty harsh. I know that’s easier said than done. But if you hold your lives hostage here, you’ll lose everything you’re trying to hold onto. Trust Eddie. He’s OCCASIONALLY right. Very occasionally. Like, mostly this one time. (Okay, he’s glaring again. How does he know?) ((He says it’s because I’m smirking.))
Alright. Better end this. Quit before I get too silly.
Go home, Buck. All you have to do is be ready to. Trust me. I know you better than anyone.
Lots of love,
Me! You? Us.
Buck
(PS. Eddie will tell you he doesn’t need to be proposed to because you both already agreed to get married and have Nico and all that. He’s a dirty liar.)
Buck reads the letter three times before choking back a sob. Still, he makes a loud sort of noise. He feels relieved. He feels like an idiot. He feels scared. He feels… Loved? Maybe. Maybe he just feels loved.
The bedroom door bursts open. Eddie stumbles through, looking panicked.
“Are you okay?” Eddie demands.
Buck sighs. He extends the letter towards Eddie, hand trembling a little, though he’s not sure exactly why.
Wordlessly, Eddie walks over to him, takes the letter, and then moves to sit on the edge of the bed to read it. Buck waits nervously, arms hugged to his own chest as if to keep himself ravelled together, while Eddie’s eyes scan the pages. Eventually, Buck can’t bear it anymore. He just stares at the floor. He feels like he’s going to fall over.
Eddie must read it more than once in the time it takes him to speak.
“Oh, Buck,” he says eventually.  Buck looks up at him, holding his breath. “C’mere.”
Sheepish, Buck crosses the room and sits next to Eddie.
Eddie puts the letter down and pulls Buck into a hug they both have to sort of awkwardly twist for.
“Sorry,” Buck mumbles.
“Don’t be sorry,” Eddie says. “I just… You thought I’d leave you?”
“No one has ever lasted seven years, Eddie,” Buck whispers.
“Well… I almost have,” Eddie says.
“It doesn’t count if we haven’t experienced it yet,” Buck sighs. “Isn’t that your whole argument from earlier?”
“Not what I mean,” Eddie says.
Buck pulls back and stares at him. “Then what do you mean?”
“It’s more like six years, for us now. I mean, in 2024. We’ve known each other for six years.”
Buck blinks. “But…”
“Maybe future you, asshole, is right. It took me a long time to get my shit together. Whatever. I’ve been here for six years. So what’s seven more? And whatever we have after that?”

Eddie baby I hope you're having fun in the future but the sooner you get back to the past, the sooner you can actually get married to Buck! and if you think it's good now... well. how about a real honeymoon, for starters 😏
Eddie is ready to go home! It's Buck who is like "Nope I'm good here!"
36 for ⛅:
---
“Really,” Buck says. “I just want to say goodbye to…”
Eddie nods. “Of course. Me, too.”
Buck exhales. This is going to hurt like hell. Basically, get over it. That’s what he needs to do. Handle a little bit of pain for what seems like a lifetime of happiness. Maybe more than a little bit. He’s not sure.
Eddie can see the conflicting emotions in Buck’s eyes. He must be able to. He cups Buck’s cheek gently and pulls him in for a kiss. Warm and lingering and speaking the same words as a promise of forever. He’s not letting Buck go. Buck can feel that now. He just needs to internalize it.
Eddie breaks the kiss, but holds Buck in another hug. Keeping the reassurance Buck needs, physically and mentally, flowing.
“I love you,” Eddie says calmly. Assuredly.
“I love you, too,” Buck says into his neck. Warm skin tickling his lips.
“But I think future you is a little over the top,” Eddie says, adopting a teasing tone. “I’m not obsessed with you.”
“Yet,” Buck snorts.
“Yet?” Eddie echoes.
“You think I didn’t sneak a peak at those photos on your phone?” Buck challenges. “Pretty obsessed behavior.”
“Mmm, let’s bring out your phone and compare,” Eddie suggests.
“Oh… No. That won’t be necessary,” Buck backtracks.

🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼🔼
Oh Shannon my love 🥹🥹🥹 she needs to cuddle w her bfs and Chris and Baby Jane. And maybe have a girls night with Maddie💗💗💗💗
I wish it would go that smoothly! (could I make that happen? yes. will I? no!)
96 for 🔼:
---
“You?” He mock gasps. “You have been causing trouble?”
“She’s too young for this kind of humor,” Eddie shakes his head, lips quirking into a smile. “She’s too young for silly faces, even.”
Buck shrugs. “Giving her a head start on eventually being funny.”
“Oh, does she need that?” Eddie asks. “Maybe I should send her to Chim…”
“Hey!” Buck complains.
But he’s not actually upset. He’s accomplished his goal. To break Eddie out of this spiral. So while Eddie chuckles, Buck circles back to a solution.
“You take it easy tonight,” Buck says. “Go to bed early. Drink all my beer if you want. I’ll take care of the baby. We’ll have a lowkey night. You can sleep.”
Eddie takes a deep breath. Buck can see the want in his eyes.
“Are you sure?”
“Totally,” Buck says. “Least I can do.”
“It’s really not,” Eddie replies. “It’s… I’d really appreciate it.”
Buck takes a step forward to give him a quick kiss. “Anytime, okay? I mean it.”
When Eddie finally sits down, sighing out a good amount of his stress, Buck feels hopeful. He thinks everything is going to be just fine.
iii.
When Shannon wakes up after a night alone, she feels strange. Not bad strange, but strange. She’s well rested. Slept like a corpse. It’s not enough to catch up on all she’s missed in the past two weeks, but it’s something. She feels like she can make it through the day.
She misses her kids. Being away from Jane is hard on her emotionally and physically. She wants her home. Texts Eddie as much. Apologizing for her behavior and asking him to bring Jane home. She misses Chris, too. It’s not the same primal ache, but she’s grown accustomed to spending every night in the same house as him, and likes waking up knowing he’s near. He’ll be home later today.
Eddie responds quickly, saying they’ll be home soon. Shannon showers and dresses and thinks about why she was so upset. Having them all here hurts. Not having them there hurts worse. So she needs to figure out how to process this. How to get over it. The past wounds that feel like they’re ripping open.
She needs to book a therapy appointment. She hasn’t had one since Jane was born. Who can blame her? She hasn’t had a free moment to herself. Maybe… Maybe asking for one yesterday doesn’t have to be a bad thing. Maybe she needs it, every once in a while. She doesn’t feel as tight with pressure this morning.
Shannon is brushing through her wet, tangled hair, thinking about small acts of self care she might be able to take to survive this, when the doorbell rings. Strange. They’re not expecting anyone. Maybe Eddie is carrying too much to unlock the door? Though, that’s a her thing, usually. He’s a bit more sensible, in this one way.
Confused, Shannon puts down her hair brush and hurries down the hall towards the door. She looks through the peephole before she opens, and the sight that greets her is one of the most horrifying sights she could have ever conjured. Ramon and Helena Diaz.
If Shannon could actually puke her heart out of her throat, she would.
These are the last people on earth she wants to see right now. Or in general. But especially right now.
She panics. She doesn’t know what to do. Can she pretend no one is home? Do they have a spare key? No. No, Eddie wouldn’t do that. He doesn’t want them around like that. Like this. At the drop of a hat.
“Hello?” Helena calls.
Fuck. She can tell someone is here.
Shannon takes a deep breath and opens the door. All she can think about is what of the kids’ things she didn’t put away before bed yesterday.
“Shannon,” Helena says when she sees her. Her tone is mostly neutral. Less frosty than Shannon might have expected.
“Mr. and Mrs. Diaz,” Shannon says. “I didn’t know you were coming to town.”

Hey! Not sure I will get the full 102, because I AM ALMOST DONE CHAPTER FIVE WOOHOO! but let's see:
---
Her eyes scan him.
“It did,” she affirms. “It happened to you.”
Eddie nods. “We-we figured it out. Uh, what I am. What you are.”
“Monsters,” Adriana says.
Eddie shakes his head. “I’m not sure about that.”
“Have you killed anyone?” Adriana asks, voice tight, eyes teary. “Has it made you kill someone yet?”
Has it made him… Like Adriana hasn’t had a choice in it. Eddie doesn’t know whether to feel better or worse about that. He feels unsettled, to be sure.
“Not like this,” Eddie admits, thinking of what he had to do overseas. He’d been made to kill then, hadn’t he? Did that make him a monster? He isn’t sure. Buck would say no, just to comfort him.
“Adriana,” he says. “Come with me, okay? Let’s figure this out together. With Soph. You don’t have to be out here alone.”
“I belong alone,” Adriana whispers, mouth quivering a little.
Eddie’s heart twists, like she’s grabbed it with a cold fist.
“No, Adriana. That’s not true.”
“It is,” she nods. “Why else would this be happening? And… And you don’t even know what I’ve done, Eddie.”
“I think I do,” Eddie says. “I think I do know.”
“How could you?” She demands. “That’s not possible.”
“The hikers?” Eddie asks quietly.
Adriana’s face drops. “How…”
“They found them. In Sweden,” Eddie says. “You’re not safe here, Adri. Someone will find you eventually.”
Tears start to spill down her cheeks. She looks afraid. Eddie doesn’t want to scare her. But he knows he has to. They have to get out of here. She has to completely relocate. Never associate with Arizona again.
“I get it, okay?” He says. “They attacked you. You were already anxious, right? They wouldn’t stop. So you protected yourself.”
Her eyes widen.
“I know,” Eddie continues. “I know, and I don’t blame you, okay. But we should go. I’ll keep you safe, okay. I’m your brother.”
“You promise?” She asks, eyes big and terrified.
“I promise,” he says. “We’re going to figure this out, both of us.”
“Okay,” she exhales. “Please, Eddie. Please, I need help.”
“It’s okay,” he says. He extends his arms towards her, taking a single step into what doesn’t even amount to an inch of water. “I’ve got you, okay?”
Adriana stumbles forward into her arms, throwing herself at him the way she did when she was a little kid, and she had a bad dream. He squeezes her tight, hand cupping the back of her skull.
“It’s okay,” he whispers. “You’re okay. We’re getting you out of here.”
“I’m sorry,” she blubbers into his shoulder. “I was awful to you. I ran away.”
“I just missed you,” he says. “And I worried. I’m so glad you’re alive. I don’t care what you did to stay that way.”
She exhales, shuddering.
For a second, Eddie thinks they’re safe. He’s found her. He’s convinced her to come with him. They’re going to be just fine. They’ll deal with this together.
And then there’s a large crash. Loud and earsplitting. It sound like a tree falling over. And that’s all Eddie assumes it is. Maybe that’s just because he hasn’t spent the past year and a half living on his own, fighting to survive.
Adriana doesn’t take it at face value.
Her head snaps to the side, looking for the source of the noise. But instead of seeing a fallen tree, she sees Buck. And the look in her eyes upon viewing him is downright feral.
“Oh my god,” she breathes.
“No, Adri, that’s okay, it’s just-”
But she doesn’t wait. With a strength he does not expect her to possess, she spins them around, so it’s her facing the lake.
“Adri, wait-”
“I won’t let them hurt you, too,” she says.
And before he can say anything else, she shoves him hard into the lake. And where he expects to hit a slimy floor, when he’s plunged into the water, it just keeps going.

New fic: take what the water gave me
I am finally finished my Mer!Buck/Trans!Eddie fic that I collabed with @timeshareindestin on!
Summary:
New transfer to the 118, Eddie Diaz, has a secret. And upon getting to know his coworker, Buck, who is also hiding something, he begins to suspect their secret is the same. He's wrong.
Snippet:
“So you must be a fish,” Eddie says when they’re drying off beside the fire engine.
Buck looks at him with wide, startled eyes. “What?”
“You know… Because you held your breath that long,” Eddie says, anxious that he’s somehow said something wrong. “Or maybe an opera singer?”
Buck exhales a little.
“Uh, neither. No. Uh… Just a party trick.”
“Oh, you’re all the rage at pool parties, okay,” Eddie chuckles, relieved he hasn’t offended Buck.
“Nah,” Buck waves him off. “I’m actually… Well… Not anymore. Not a big pool party guy.”
A weird thing to say then.
“Yeah, Eddie shrugs. “Me neither.”

Completed Fic: treat an opportunity like it's treating you
Another prompt fulfilled for @911actions and I am especially proud of this one. As a service dog user and Golden Retriever enthusiast, this was a great piece for me to combine interests.
Summary:
After losing his leg as a result of the fire engine bombing, Buck is presented with the opportunity to have a service dog donated to him.
Snippet:
Cranberry retracts her head from his leg, scooches forward, and shoves her nose into his stomach. Not hard. Just like a firm little tap. She does it twice more in succession.
“Wh-what’s she doing?” Buck asks.
“Cranberry is trained to respond to physical displays of anxiety,” Sam explains. “Things that might indicate an oncoming panic attack, or let you know you need to take a break.”
Maddie stares very intently at the dog.
“What was I doing?” Buck asks.
“Your breathing got heavier,” Sam says. “You were chewing the inside of your cheek, too, I think. She’s been trained on both of those indicators, plus a few more.”
“What a smart girl,” Maddie observes.
“What, uh, what would I do with that?” Buck asks Sam.
He keeps stroking Cranberry’s head. He doesn’t want her to think that just because he doesn’t know how to properly act, she isn’t doing a great job. She’s kind of, like, the best dog ever?

Completed Fic: the best endeavor waiting
One more today!
Here's the sequel to my Service Dog User Buck fic - treat an opportunity like it's treating you
Summary:
When quarantine puts the 118 on the front lines of the pandemic, Eddie asks Buck and his service dog, Cranberry, to stay with Christopher.
Snippet:
“Buck, I need us to switch.”
“Switch?” Buck echoes.
“I need…” Eddie sighs. “Would you switch with me? Stay with Chris? And I’d stay at your place.”
Buck is silent for a second. Floored. In all his internal griping about working from home and having to entertain his dog, how did he not consider what Eddie must be worrying about?
“I’m sorry,” Eddie adds when Buck doesn’t reply quickly. “I know it’s a lot to ask. It’s not your… You’re not his… But, Buck, I can’t get him sick. I can’t get him sick, and you’re the person I trust most to take care of him.”
“Of course I will,” Buck blurts. “Sorry, I was just surprised. Yes, Eddie. Of course, whatever you need. Are you… You’re sure?”
“I’m sure,” Eddie replies. “I… I think if it was anyone else I wouldn’t be sure.”

New fic: we won't look back, we won't be lost
Pipe Baby fic at last! Since I am very close to being done, I am going to start posting a chapter every day.
Summary:
Over six years after the 118 rescued a baby from a pipe, Buck meets that same child again on a different call. And in all that time, she never found a home. OR: Buck adopts Pipe Baby while Eddie waits for Christopher to come home.
Snippet:
“So, you two are very generous, kindhearted people,” Buck leads off his conversation with Bobby and Athena at their temporary apartment.
Bobby and Athena look at each other.
“Why does this feel like a trap?” Bobby asks.
“Mhm, my thoughts exactly,” Athena opines.
“It’s not!” Buck insists. “It’s not at all.”
“What’s going on, Buck?” Bobby asks.
“Do you remember that premature baby we rescued from a pipe?” Buck starts.
“Oh, I remember,” Athena raises an eyebrow.
Ha. Right.
“Well, about her…”

Completed Fic: a cold world for such a long life
IT'S FINALLY HEEEEERE!!!!
Summary:
“Maybe I’ll fix things with my brother when you tell that best friend of yours you’re in love with him.” Eddie gapes. “What? I didn’t tell you that!” Charlie smirks. “But it’s true.” Fuck. “Well, that’s not fair…” Eddie scowls. “Plus, he has a boyfriend. There are different rules than for estranged brothers.” --- OR: Eddie befriends Bobby's estranged older brother in a virtual support group for queer adults struggling to come out. The only problem? He has no idea that's who Charlie is.

Completed Fic: Advice For the Young At Heart
WOOHOO it's been 8800 years since I posted. Here's a @911actions prompt for @pomerqueen - ily Marissa!
Summary:
Buck and Bobby overhear big news about Eddie. Buck spirals. Bobby talks him through it.
Snippet:
“Maybe…” Buck scrambles for words. “Maybe I could go home sick?”
“Sick?” Bobby asks.
Buck nods.
“Mhm. Yeah. Sick. I think I have…” Buck’s brain completely fails to supply a plausible illness. “Tetanus?”
“Tetanus?” Bobby parrots.
“Crap, no. That’s stupid,” Buck admits. “Stomach bug?”
“Buck,” Bobby says. “You’re panicking.”
“Am I?” Buck asks.

Completed Fic: Late Fines
Another prompt filled for @911actions - the long awaited library fic! This one took me longer than anticipated to write, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out.
Summary:
Buck is a children's librarian at the branch closest to Eddie's house. When he gets himself involved in the lives of a cute kid and his handsome single dad, he gets a glimpse of what he wants in life. It might just take a few years to get it.
Snippet:
“Hi, Eddie,” Buck smiles at him as Eddie approaches the front desk with Christopher’s stack of books in hand. “How are things?”
“Okay,” Eddie sighs. “First, I’m impressed that you remember my name. Second, I know. Okay? I know this looks terrible. I am so sorry.”
“What looks terrible?” Buck asks. He wants to act like it’s really nothing of note.
“The books are nine days overdue,” Eddie says. “I get it. Bad precedent when it’s our first time borrowing.”
“Oh, hey. It happens…”
“No! Look, I’m not a guy to make excuses. Really. But I’m working twenty-four hour shifts for the first time, and my Abuela usually watches him, but she broke her hip, and it’s just me, and…”
He seems one sentence away from cracking.
“Eddie,” Buck says, firmly but kindly. “It’s really not a big deal. I’m going to waive the fines, okay?”

New fic: we all assume the worst the best we can
Before I go on a business trip out of country... Here is another @911actions prompt! This one for the lovely @goldenbcnes
Summary:
When a rescue goes wrong, Buck and Bobby are trapped, while Eddie and Chim scramble to save them.
Snippet:
Eddie watches from the ambulance with horror as the unfinished house collapses. Something must have happened down in the garage because it all seems to fold inwards, beams and cement and wooden framing all crumpling down. On top of Buck and Bobby.
“Oh, shit,” Chim curses.
“BUCK!” Eddie hollers, unable to restrain himself. “BUCK!”
He starts running towards the wreckage. Chim is right behind him. He thinks he hears other first responders on the scene following, too.
“BUCK!”
“Dispatch, this is Firefighter-Paramedic Howard Han with the 118,” he hears Chim start to say into his radio. “We’ve had additional building collapse. Two firefighters and one civilian are unaccounted for. We need more help.”
Eddie understands that what Chim is doing is the intelligent thing. The only thing. Because a house just collapsed on top of his husband and captain and he won’t be able to solve that himself. And still he falls to his knees in front of the collapse anyway, grabbing at pieces of rubble, shouting.
“BUCK! BOBBY! BUCK!”

Completed Fic: A Little Wisdom
My first ever prompt fill for @badthingshappenbingo!!! Prompt: Toothache
Yes I am using Clipboard!Buck as my checkmark.
Tumblr media
FANDOM: 9-1-1
RATING: Teen
Summary:
Christopher comes home from Texas and needs his wisdom teeth removed, which leads to a larger discussion on hurt and comfort and needs that Eddie doesn't see coming.
Snippet:
“What?” Chris asks, words muffled by the set of his extended jaw. “What’s wrong with me?”
“Your wisdom teeth are trying to come through,” Eddie says. He steps back from Chris and turns off the light. “But they’re impacted. Which just means they’re growing in against your other teeth and causing a lot of pain.”
“Oh,” Chris says. “What do I do?”
I, not we. Like he has to solve his problems himself now. He didn’t talk like that before this summer.
“Well, you’ll probably need a surgery to remove them,” Eddie says.
Christopher’s face twists with apprehension.
“It’s a little surgery,” Eddie assures him. “Nothing scary like you had in the past. Lots of people have to have it.”
Buck could probably rhyme off the exact percentage of people who need it.
To his surprise, Christopher starts to cry. His face goes even redder.
“Aren’t I too young for that?” He blubbers. ”I-I don’t want it!”

Completed Fic: Sweet Talk
Another completed fic for @911actions this time for @pt-soulmate :)
Summary:
Eddie asks to crash at the loft while Christopher is gone, struggling to be on his own. Only problem? There's only one bed, and no couch.
Snippet:
“Of course you can stay here,” he says soothingly. “You can stay as long as you need.”
Eddie slumps forward, just a little. Leaning his weight against Buck. Good. Buck wants to take it.
“Thanks,” he mumbles.
“Of course,” Buck says. “But, uh… You know we’ll be going quarantine-style, right?”
“What?” Eddie asks, pulling out of the hug.
“I don’t have a couch, Eddie.”
“What?” Eddie asks. “Still?”
“You’ve been here! You know this!”
“I can’t keep track of your couches. What happened to the Natalia couch?”
The Natalia couch. Oh, Buck doesn’t love that their names are attached to partners.

Fic Update: Things We're All Too Young to Know
A scene I have waited A LONG time to write, here.
Summary:
Buck and Eddie meet their daughter.
Snippet:
“Not that I don’t entirely sympathize,” Bobby says. “But I think Eddie might be right that you need to breathe a little.”
“Ugh,” Buck groans. “I know.”
“Save that reserve of energy,” Bobby counsels. “You’re gonna need it.”
Buck sighs. He knows Bobby is right. He should probably be trying to bank sleep instead of stress.
“It all just feels out of my control, you know?” Buck says. “Like if something goes wrong at this point, what can I do?”
“Nothing,” Bobby says. “There’s nothing.”
“See? That sucks!”
Bobby smiles. “That’s parenthood, though. That’s just… How a lot of it is.”
Buck nods. He knows that. Conceptually, he knows that. He just doesn’t like feeling it. He likes being able to do something. Manage potential problems. Be the solution. And as much as he knows that a baby a day overdue is not actually a problem, it just feels like the beginning of that anxious feeling he can’t do anything to solve.
