No but like it's so true that Yuri gets overshadowed by Yaoi 😭 I've been following VIVINOS since the "Beloved" video (so three years now) and the whole channel back then was KNOWN for being about lesbians. Usually tragic stories with them. And yet they only blow up when they do Yaoi? I mean don't get me wrong, I'm glad VIVINOS is getting the respect the team deserves, but now all the talk about this primary lesbian channel is overrun with just Ivan and Till. And it sucks because I love Ivan and Till too, but I don't like how they're overshadowing the WLWs now.
Though I will say there was some controversy with a Twitter user attacking QMENG for putting Ivantill in Alien Stage, with the complaint being that because of that, Mizisua was overshadowed. And, like. That's not really QMENGs fault? Like what are we advocating for that there? To put less LGBT characters and relationships in media just because people can like them wrong? The problem is the fans, not QMENG. It's not her fault misogyny exists 😭 why are we attacking a real life WLW over fictional ones, get your priorities right.
But yeah I'm honestly just so tired of the trend in fandom that the Yaoi gets popular but the Yuri gets left to the wasteside. Especially since the VIVINOS community used to be all about lesbians and Yuri!!!! That's what the channel used to be known for!!! It just sucks as a fandom trend. Alien Stage is both doomed Yuri, doomed Yaoi, and doomed f/m as well!!! Don't leave out the girl's when Mizi is very much arguably the PROTAGONIST of Alien Stage!!!
My sibling is super into dungeon meshi, like read the manga before the anime came out, and apparently the same thing happened in that fandom, where pre-anime people were mostly focused on Marcille and Falin, but now people are out there calling it yaoi and focusing on the m/m pairings over the femslash ones. Really sucks to see, and is definitely because of misogyny.
Okay impassioned rant over. I just very much agree with you. I wish people made more Yuri content 😭😭😭 I make a lot of Yuri content (I have around 260 works on ao3 tagged f/f) but no matter how much Yuri I make, it will never hold a candle to all the yaoi content out there. I mean Komahina has 7,917 works on ao3! 7,917 works! Even IvanTill which is much newer has 2,681 compared to MiziSua's 961 works 😭😭😭. I could never put enough Yuri out there to rival that. Makes me really sad, honestly.
god i can’t believe they literally made a show about lesbians, only for everyone to be like “ok but what about the men though?”

i often see people talk about how Everyone in the fandom hated sandgorse and no one defended him… and i just can’t help but wonder what kind of fandom hellscape i grew up in because my experience was definitely not that. whenever i pointed out sandgorse was a shit dad people would always try to defend him and say he loved tallstar and was just a little misguided or that he was just trying to do what was best for tallstar, etc. etc. all that dismissive stuff. can someone go back in time and beam me to the side of the fandom that accepted he was bad because for me all these people defending him really messed me up when it came to my real life experiences because i was just a kid being told that an abusive father character that could be seen in real people wasn’t “as bad” as i was trying to say…

it is not really a shock that this fandom has a bit of a misogyny problem, but i think a specific one is how the boys are often somewhat babied and given all sorts of pity for every single tiny thing they go through, while the girls with similar issues are often ignored entirely. there are many examples of this, but right now, i am going to talk at length about the Tenmas and the Shinonomes in particular, as them being pairs of siblings allows very direct comparison.
firstly, the one that irks me most: Tsukasa Tenma, and how a ridiculous number of his fans will make absolutely everything about him. including Saki's disability. i do think it's right to acknowledge the impact on him as well- but it gets overdramatic really quickly. i'm sorry to be harsh, but Saki did not spend her childhood in and out of hospitals, believing that she was dying, just for half the fandom to completely brush over her trauma and be like "oh... poor, lonely Tsukasa..."
i rather hate this, because not only does it feel quite ableist to skim over the one directly suffering from the condition in order to massively favour someone who happens to feel a bit of the knock-on effect, but it's also used to unreasonably villainise the Tenma parents. people will go on about how "neglected" Tsukasa was... very well, how exactly would you have handled the situation? they did their absolute best. it was a highly unfortunate situation for everyone involved, and it's unfair to deem Mrs and Mr Tenma as "bad parents" simply because they prioritised their dangerously ill daughter over their confident son who always assured them that he'd be alright. yes, they could have made better choices for Tsukasa, such as hiring a babysitter... but i think people tend to forget that Saki's illness flared up very suddenly and randomly. as the good parents the Tenmas are, they very likely couldn't think properly due to their panic for their daughter. it was instinct to drop everything and get her immediate help. and Tsukasa himself understands this, so it's an absolute wonder that the fandom doesn't. he was not ignored. he was phoned, updated on the situation, reassured that his sister was recovering... and praised by his parents for being such a wonderful brother.
also, with the situation of Saki's hospitalisation, i do feel like Tsukasa's own personality is sometimes not taken into account, ironic since it's him that everyone's interested in. because i would, in fact, be more critical of the Tenma parents, had Tsukasa been a more fragile child. if he had been the type who was easily scared, who could not handle being by himself, who would, in fact, have been traumatised from being left alone- i would say that the Tenma parents would have deserved the treatment they get from the fandom. but... that's not Tsukasa. it has been shown that Tsukasa was always a very bright, self-assured boy, positively brimming with confidence. even when little, he was creative and strong- and his parents knew this. they could have some peace of mind during a stressful time, knowing that their son could entertain himself with ease, such as how he was practising some acting just before his mother rang him. all of this is shown within the Dazzling Stage event which is, funnily enough, the very same event that the lovers of Tsukasa angst latch onto.
of course Tsukasa was heavily concerned about Saki. he is an incredibly caring person, why wouldn't he be? and yes, of course he missed her while she was in the hospital. no one is trying to deny that, nor minimise his suffering. the fandom does that to Saki. while acknowledging that Tsukasa was affected is good, in fact, it is very interesting to see the impact of disabilities beyond those directly affected... it's the fact that it is majorly Tsukasa's issues that are focused on that confuses me. it's disproportionate. i do wish we saw just as much sympathy and discussion about Saki herself, in addition to her brother. the psychological impact that her illness and consequential exclusion had on her, as well as the obvious physical aspect. because that is just as interesting, if not potentially more so, and i will be making a future post about it.
moving on from the Tenmas, i'd now like to talk about the Shinonome siblings, in a little less detail, considering i personally have not witnessed the unfairness of their treatment as much as that between the Tenmas. though, make no mistake, it still exists.
now, Ena is a character who i feel has a certain percentage of those who dislike her. and what are the general traits that people point out when asked why they aren't a fan? from what i've seen, it is her anger management issues, past violence, and a general "tsundere" type of personality that earns her this criticism. i'm not saying she does not have any of this. she absolutely does. she is flawed, as good, complex characters should be. though, everything she is despised for... who else regularly displays the exact same traits?
none other than her own brother, Akito. yet the dislike for him, while it is obviously around, does not seem quite as common as hers. a very short and hot temper? check. shows of violence? check. a sometimes harsh way of speaking? check. can sound aggressive and off-putting on occassion? check. Akito and Ena are incredibly similar when it comes to their more negative traits. i suppose it's not a surprise, considering that they were both brought up in the same, questionable environment. though, why does Ena seem to be hated so much more?
most will bring up the very infamous mention of how Ena and Akito's fights would get physical when they were younger. and how this makes Ena an "abuser" because supposedly, as she is the elder one, there was an imbalance in power... but was there really? it is incredibly controversial to say, but i do believe that the violence between them, particularly that which was committed by Ena, is quite exaggerated by fans. and here is where i think that Akito tends to be babied.
Ena was not significantly stronger than Akito. perhaps not ever physically stronger than him at all except when they were literal babies. there is only one year of difference between their ages. in the current day, it is no debate that Akito is one of the strongest characters, regularly going on runs, being able to sprint with Tsukasa on his back, while Ena is quite on the opposite end of the spectrum, preferring the indoors and such. what i am saying is that it is absurd how the fandom makes it seem like Akito was some utterly defenceless little toddler that was getting beaten up by his Big Bad Sister. realistically, he was fully capable of fighting back- and he does. it's hardly as if we see him cower before her. he has absolutely no issue retorting to her in a snarky manner. when people bring up the whole drama of Ena scratching him, they conveniently forget what he says directly afterwards- that he could dodge her attacks. not to mention, sibling fights getting physical and a little violent is incredibly common, take it from me- i am an oldest sister myself. if you call Ena an abuser, you are saying that you want half the older siblings in this world behind bars.
oh, and people will talk until they're blue in the face about how the "nasty" and "crazy" Ena scratched up her brother when they were younger- are we forgetting that Akito punched Toya in the literal main story? that left a massive bruise on his cheek. that isn't talked about nearly as much as some common sibling scrap.
if you can let similar behaviour slide from Akito... how come it is unacceptable from his older sister? who is, arguably, from what has been shown in the story so far... under the greater amount of stress from the tension within their family. it was her that was explicitly discouraged by their father. we haven't seen such conflict between Shinei and his son, have we? that's not to say that Akito's current personality isn't also explained, having grown up in that environment, but why is it that Ena receives so much less sympathy than him when she, understandably, lashes out?
Saki and Ena have both had it rough. in their own, very different, ways. yet, a staggering amount of pity is given, not to them, but to their respective brothers.
and i must, sadly, wonder... if the mere genders of these four characters happened to be swapped and all else remained as it is...
... would the perception of any of them be quite the same?

thoughts on meulin as a whole :?
I think her Toxic Positivity as commentary on Tumblr Fandom Spaces is spot on, and I feel like no one acknowledges that trait partially because of the same reason that it’s there in the first place. The reason I say “partially” is because it mostly comes down to people not reading the Openbounds, but still professing themselves to be “experts” just because they saw a few pieces of Fan Art. Any remaining percentage goes to Misogyny. The Leijons are not allowed to be seen as complicated people because they are Cute Girls, and therefore are Dumb and Silly and Have No Humanity - I mean, Personality outside of this.
Every Abled person who has looked me in the eyes and told me she’s Bad Hearing Disabled Representation because she “isn’t using real sign”, or because she’s “still speaking verbally to people” owe me $500 per every word of their statement. Textually, she loves her disability, and she loves navigating it and the world around her. She loves the new learning opportunities, she loves learning sign. She’s open about this! Literally the only real reason she’s still speaking verbally to people is because the people around her won’t fucking take the time to learn sign for her. This is a struggle that a lot of real actual hearing disabled people face. It’s not unrealistic. Lip reading exists. Her disability was gained, so she already knew how to talk. I wish every Abled person a very Shut The Fuck Up, Forever. I wish them a very Begone, Concern Troll. I love Meulin. I’ll kill you.

You know anon who replied to my post about Buck. I'm a proud biracial person so you certainly won't see me, a BT shipper, be against an interracial couple. I see racism, even when it's subtle, I see when people are vague posting about race being a problem. And I've never seen a BuckTommy fan make a racist post about Eddie being Latino, not even make an allusion to it. Never. I'm not saying there's not a single BT racist fan, you'll find trash anywhere, but here on Tumblr, I have yet to see it.
Eddie is not a problem for BuckTommy shippers, he's not a menace to the ship, he's not in the way of anything. And him being Latino has been used by BoBs themselves since the beginning as an excuse to hate on Tommy, the ship, and us. We don't fucking care about Eddie being Latino, it's a non thing for BT shippers. We're not white supremacists with an agenda. Meanwhile, the moment we dared to like Buck being with Tommy, we were under Buddies/BoBs constant harassment. Because they didn't get their ship canon. And the hate and violence has been insane. The homophobia/queerphobia. The misogyny. The ageism. The racism against actual people in the fandom. And it created tensions we never asked for.
We never asked for anything except maybe to see a queer arc for Buck. We never ask for Buddie to not be canon. We never asked for Tommy to come back. We only hoped they'd give the fans queer Buck. Then we just went with what the show gave us, some liked it, some not. No one except the show runners and the writers knew what would happen and had the power to make it happen. None of us, whatever we ship, will change what people are PAID to do on a TV show.
All the rest? It's your interpretation, just like we all have. It's valid but not canon. Tommy acting like Taylor and being dismissive of Buck's feelings? Your interpretation but it's not canon. I'm currently rewatching the show for the first time and I see so many moments when Eddie is not a good friend to Buck. Not a bad friend, just not a good one. And I don't need theories about him being a supposedly closeted gay to just accept that those characters are written to be realistic, so they're not perfect. Eddie using his friendship with Buck to hit exactly where it hurts and tell him he's exhausting? Oh it was bad, but Eddie was pissed. So you know, it was a realistic and emotional response. It doesn't mean I started a hate campaign against him and his fan. First because it's a fucking TV show, but most of all, it's not important. It's part of the story and that's it. Sit back and enjoy, then join the fandom to make your ship thrive in fanon. No need to hate anything or anyone.
(oh and yes, BuckTommy has many names! Not always practical but it's not like it affects your life, isn't it?)

i hate posting discourse it's pointless and doesn't do anything for me except prolong my annoyance but i'm Tired™ and feel like shouting into the void. apologies to my beautiful feanorian mutuals please look away i love u
i neeeeeeed everyone to stop claiming they like elwing if their characterisation of her is completely made-up biased bullshit that paints her as an immature and disdained ruler (?????) who couldn't balance her responsibilities with the husband she married too young (at 22. practically a child bride honestly) and the children she never wanted (where. where does it say this). she's clearly such a bad mother that she abandoned them at first opportunity (she knew the feanorians were more than capable of killing a pair of twin boys because they literally already did that. that's very much a thing that already happened. to her brothers) and it was her selfish nature that made her soooo eager to flee (she had no reason to think ulmo would save her it was literally a suicide attempt. she wanted to make sure the deaths of her people and presumed deaths of her sons weren't in vain by ensuring they never obtained the silmaril)
like i'm gonna touch your hand as i say this. it's okay if you hate her! just don't pretend that you weren't thriving in the 2016 era of silm fandom where everyone pushed all their male fave's negative traits onto any other woman in a 5 mile radius to grab Poor Little Meow Meow status for war criminal #1 #2 and #3 to then turn around and spout the exact same (factually untrue) sexist rhetoric concealed under seven layers of buzzwords just because it's the year of "unlikable and complicated female characters" like buddy who are we talking about here. have you perhaps considered making an oc?
and i'm NOT saying i want the whole fandom to mimic my exact opinions and thoughts about elwing i realise that one of the best parts of the silm is how divisive it is and how you have so much wiggle room to come to your own interpretations because of how VAGUE the source material is but i'm genuinely convinced everyone's just parroting shit they saw in ao3 fanfics where maglor is secretly lindir and the premise is elrond sneaking him into valinor and elwing yells at him for slaughtering her people. TWICE. and this is framed as a category 5 Woman Moment so elrond disowns her and calls maglor his real dad
(eärendil misses this entire ordeal because he went on a voyage to save the world that one time and no one's let him live it down since because the whole fandom as a collective decided he did this because he's a terrible dad and not because the whole continent was at war and about to be wiped out and maybe he came to the unfortunate but reasonable conclusion that leaving is the best thing he could do for his family if it meant there was a chance his sons could grow up safe in a world that wasn't ruled by Fucking Satan so now his whole Beloved Sacrificial Lion: The Thin Line Between Doomed and Prophesized Hero™ shtick is tossed out in favour of.... *checks notes* Guy Who Forgot To Pay Child Support? oh and they're a lot louder about this because he's a man so no one can call it misogyny that's why no one ever goes the #girlflop #ILoveMyBlorbosNastyAndComplicated route with him and he gets dubbed as that one asshole who just wanted fame and glory even though that goes against the general themes for tolkien's hero characters. and tolkien loved that dude to bits that was his specialist little guy so you can't seriously tell me you think that's what he was trying to portray???????? is that seriously what you think he was trying to portray????????? babe????????????
also there's a BIG difference when it's a character that's only named in one draft and doesn't exist in the rest or gil-galad who has like three and a half possible fathers but ELWING??????? the only possible way you could be coming to these conclusions is if you read the damn book with your eyes closed. FUCK.

AITA for considering making a call out post about a well known fandom blogger who was transphobic towards me/ others?
We're both in a fandom that has a very large transmasc fan base, and they themself aren't cis (Bi-gender), so their post really caught me off guard... Especially because I was mentioned in it??
Let's call them Pink.
Earlier that day, yesterday, Pink had reblogged something from me. Someone sent Pink an Anon message saying that I had "trans misandry deniers dni" in my bio. The Anon then said they "didn't want to start anything" but knew Pink's opinion of it.
I had that in my bio because of the amount of people who think trans men don't face transphobia and that we have it easy.
✨Info break time✨
For those who don't know, trans misandry or transandrophobia, is the specific type of transphobia experienced by trans men/ transmasculine people. Like how trans fem peeps experience trans misogyny.
Ex. the idea that because we identify as men/ with a masculine gender, we are inherently dangerous/bad, are "joining the oppressors", or abandoning womanhood to gain male-privilege. And that we don't experience the hardships that most AFAB people face.
It has nothing to do with misandry against cis men, which on a systemic level I don't believe in at all.
✨back to the story✨
Pink responded to the Anon essentially saying that anyone who believes in transmisandry: is overemotional, shouldn't be taken seriously, and is the same as someone who believes in cis misandry.
This was... Super odd?? Like, the fandom they main is like 70% transmascs, they see us all the time. Why would they think that it's ok to say we don't face discrimination? It affects our lives so much and it weirded me out how they could think it was silly. And even posting my account's name for everyone to see was SUPER weird.
I was really hoping that Pink didn't understand what transmisandry was, and was just thrown-off by the word "misandry" being used. Because that's a common occurrence. So, I sent them a DM in hopes of explaining what they may have misunderstood.
In the DM I said I wasn't mad though I didn't appreciate them making the post about me, but I didn't think it was made in bad faith. I told them that my bio was referring to the specific type of transphobia I and other transmasculine people face and not CIS misandry. I ended my message saying that if they'd like to understand better, I'd be happy to answer any questions they had... and then they blocked me. I think I may have overstepped by doing this, but they did publicly ridicule me so ehgeh?
I don't know if they read my message or not because they didn't respond. I don't want to make anyone feel hurt bc they are pretty popular in the fandom and people like what they post. But I want others to be aware of how Pink feels about the probable majority of their followers and the fandom base they frequent.
So AITA and overreacting and let it alone?
What are these acronyms?

so people have been wondering why caitvi is a lot less popular now within the arcane fandom than ships with timebomb or jayvik and as someone who ships them let me explain mostly why this is happening, of course mostly from the writing perspective as there is likely some misogyny included in said reason but thats just what ive heard and not seen (this does NOT mean it isnt happening though). and im also not including it because im just addressing why even some caitvi shippers (that i know) ended up not caring for it in s2
(click read more because this... this is a long one)
Tumblr media
first off im stating that this is just a combination of what ive seen from other people and my own opinions. in your opinion these points can be completely dogshit and thats okay because they're opinions. not fact. with that being said lets get started.
1. Tension, s2 act 2 kills almost ALL of the tension that the first act sets up. in the first act you have them getting together, you have them finally kissing and breaking the previous tension in s1 then to keep people interested in the ship in the same episode they have them breakup. and this works people talked a SHIT ton about this and were going feral over it, looking at the trailer and seeing 'oh look at emo vi and her dictator gf!!' and even the 'there are two ways to handle a gay break up' memes. it was all over.
people were feral, waiting for the next act to see them interact and have beef with each other (before inevitably getting back together because we all knew it would happen). but in act two we dont really get that. we get the aftermath from vi's perspective and kinda cait's???? but then we have their interaction and people are hyped at this moment. because this is the moment. the one that they were all waiting for and there's a small scuffle before... it stops.
vi calls cait cupcake and... all if forgiven rather quickly in that scene (obviously in act 3 they have some more drama but we'll talk about it later). they have their moment and its cute. you have cait folding after being called cupcake, its cute. but thats just the thing. its nothing else but cute. there are still stakes dont get me wrong but that moment is just... so bad for cait's character. she has the whole dictator arc and it just takes vi calling her a pet name for her to switch sides.
and yes its adorable, its everything you want in a ship. but it doesnt really make sense when you take in account everything that they've been building up for cait. her dictator arc, her gassing zaun, training with ambessa, losing her mother, breaking up with vi. it all seems undermined by vi calling her a petname and all of the sudden the tension is taken out of their relationship.
they get back together (sorta) and help plan to take down ambessa and that's all it took. its like having a really evil villain who did a ton of bad things but the good guy gives them a pep talk (vi doesnt even do that) and all of the sudden their mind changes completely
it's not realistic, it doesn't make sense.
then you have act 3 and where vi actually confronts cait about ambessa and her going along with her actions and they have a small argument thats kinda just resolved by cait saying that she knows what she did wrong and that she tried helping jinx not get arrested too and then BAM there's a shift in the argument and then we're back to jinx and it never gets brought up again (correct me if im wrong)
their relationship follows this, happy moment, create something that causes tension, build up tension, refuse to follow through.
its like its tightening a string on an instrument to get a tone but before you pluck it the string loosens and all of the sudden you get this really really dull and kinda disgusting sound that doesn't leave you feeling 100% satisfied in the end
or if you're an artist almost filling in a circle completely but at the last second you color just a little bit outside the lines. it's not satisfying.
2. The sex scene, this is just mostly stuff ive seen and while i dont agree with all of it i must say that they do have their valid points of thinking that the scene was a little misplaced. most of the complaints of seen of this is that vi was out of character and that she should've been looking for jinx since it was implied that jinx was going to kill herself to 'fix' everything. and while i dont think vi couldve really known this i do see where theyre coming from as vi is inherently protective of jinx and her actions and even if there was the slightest chance that she might harm herself vi would do anything in her power to stop it and... she just doesnt.
when cait unlocks the cell she doesnt rush out to jinx, she just wallows a bit longer and mopes (WHICH IS FUCKING VALID BTW). then you have cait talk to her and... SEX. yeah there is other stuff between that but some people felt that they shouldve had them have their talk and then had vi rush out to help jinx.
a lot of people also felt that cait was taking advantage of vi in this moment (i do NOT agree with this at all) to an emotional extent and saying how the scene didnt feel right because vi wasnt in her best state (i agree slightly with this) and that the sex in the cell wasnt really reclaiming anything from all those years of being in the cell like the directors originally intended it to
then you have people saying that it was misplaced (and i kinda agree) and that it just felt so sudden for the both of them especially considering everything with them and then there's the next reason...
3. Caitlyn herself, there was so much drama about her character. in the first arc you have people defending her actions and who were ready to die for her and people getting mad at her, saying she was the worst and that she didnt deserve vi after what she did to her. this also comes with her character being set up to do a lot of evil shit in the future. there was drama (when is there not) and that meant the majority of people loved or hated her with a slim minority not really caring her for at all.
she was implied to have gassed zaun (actually its not even really implied as she, vi, and the gang do it that one episode in a montage and they actually show them doing it for like... a scene or two) and overall just have been a really shitty person to zaunites. she slept with maddie (which people HATED) and they kept leading up to her being the big bad the person who vi would have to convince but once again... they meet and all tension is ruined.
cait's character is one of the best and worst things in arcane. they did such a good job setting her up only to fumble last second and yeah... thats enough to effectively kill a ship as one half of it is the other character (assuming is a monogamy ofc) and 50% is not passing. people arent going to be as committed to a ship when they hate the other character in it and thats just a fact
4. Time, it just... didnt work. timebomb got a full episode (practically) devoted to it and jayvik was kinda in there as crumbs. not to mention that their entire arc is sprinkled a lot more effectively and more long lasting throughout s2 of arcane. with timebomb THEY GOT A WHOLE EPISODE
people already like both characters of ekko and jinx so yeah theyre going to go feral over what coudlve been. the dance, everything and it effectively builds up tension with showing us how good everything couldve been and fully releases it in a satissfying way with ekko's leave. with jayvik you have him going insane and realizing that he has to kill viktor in order to stop what happens in the future (GIVING US THE ANSWER TO WHAT HAPPENED IN EP6 and this also gives us more tension in the relationship when viktor comes back).
you have ekko stopping jinx from ending her life (another reason people didnt like the sex scene cause jinx was actively trynna off herself during it) and telling her to give living another chance because you can build something more you can start again. and you also have the implications of them drawing on themselves in the artbook and just in general during the show. you have the hot air balloon contraption that they create. its everything
jayce then meets with viktor in the room and there is tension so much tension and it all goes to them. then you have jayce confronting and giving himself to viktor on the battlefield and its so well written. now, personally i have my issues with how jayce talk not jutsu-ed viktor into stop being evil or whatever (personally that scene was like a 6/10 for me). "BUT WAIT WHAT ABOUT YOUR COMPLAINTS WITH VI AND CAIT AND CAIT FOLDING AFTER BEING CALLED CUPCAKE?!?!" they would be lessened if we were shown them talking and discussing what happened, what went wrong. with them we dont do that, we dont get the release of them regretting what they've done, their actions. that declaration of love.
with jayvik we do (love can be interpreted as romantic or platonic) and they probably spend more time in that scene talking about each other and how much they care for one another than caitvi do in the entirety of s2 when it comes to discussing their relationship.
basically what happened was that the writers confirmed 'yes theyre canon now, nothing else is going to happen to them. okay time to focus on other things' and caitvi got sidelined SO HARD in the end that come people stopped caring for them entirely and put more attention to ships and dynamics that were getting more attention and love from the show.
basically thats all i could think of and its 1am so sorry for any grammar or spelling mistakes lol. tell me if i got anything wrong, if you agree or just your general opinions on the matter because this is what i could find/gather about them. have a good day/night everybody :)

Round 3
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda Under Cut
Kairi
kairi is the third protagonist of the kingdom hearts series and the third member of the destiny trio, alongside fan favorites sora and riku. sora/riku shippers HATE kairi, and will go out of their way to discount her at every turn. the hate for her ranges from typical "she's a boring bitch" to fans of soriku making five-hour long video essays reassuring their fellow shippers that the big bad kairi won't show up in the next installment – to quote one video, "she's in a box. she's on the shelf. four walls, no door." kairi is the greatest bogeyman the soriku fandom has ever known, to the point where most of said video essays and fanon meta posts focus not on why sora and riku should get together, but rather on why they don't like kairi.
Literally has a 100+ page Google doc fan theory writing her out of the narrative and putting all of her (few) canonical accomplishments onto half of the popular m/m ship (soriku). Don't even get me started on how her memory was completely written out of the canon plot of re:coded. KH is a nightmare to explain so dude trust me she is THE victim of yaoi
She is so fundamental to the plot and themes and narratives of game and yet it is near impossible to find anything about her thats not ship bashing pre-mlm with the other two characters. I dont even care if she ends up with one of the main characters i just want fans to see her as a cool character to love or like, anything other than “annoying comphet girl.” You can write your mlm but pleaae stop inventing comphet where it doesnt exist. She does not even get to spend time with sora ever?? Why does everyone see her as a threat and a thing to destroy?? Let her have friends so help me
Misa Amane
she gets treated in-canon the way fandoms treat female characters that Threaten an m/m ship. it's like, "oh why don't you go sit in the corner and be pretty, misa, while the Men have intelligent conversation and pretend they aren't ten seconds from fucking each other, doesn't that sound nice?" it's infuriating. and MAYBE it's better now but i remember her getting treated the same way in fanfiction too, like we all need to do just as badly by our female secondary characters as fucking tsugumi ohba, but with the added insult of making her be alternately oblivious of the relationship between light and L or actively trying to sabotage it—incompetently, of course, because god forbid misa be allowed dignity or moments of cleverness.
she's one of the first characters I think of when I consider old school fandom misogyny. The annoying bitch and clingy crazy gf allegations were AFTER HER ASS. She's also a lot more intelligent than people gave her credit for, but most seem inclined to take the Very Biased word of our unreliable, narcissistic narrator and his homoerotic arch nemesis and claim that just because she's bubbly and into romance that she's also a complete moron. Which is blatantly untrue. Everyone was afraid of Misa girlbossing too hard. Killing people and devoting yourself to the deranged twink of your dreams even though you know he'll never love you back??? Having a hardcore goth aesthetic and being so Hot even literal Death Gods are into you?? God forbid women do ANYTHING!
Not only is she the victim of yaoi culture, she is the victim of early 2000s misogyny by an author that wanted to introduce a girl character because he knew his male rivals were getting too homoerotic. She is a goth bimbo icon who portrays what I think is one of the few callouts for stan culture and what parasocial relationships can do to both the stan and the idol. The fact that she is a toxic fan of Kira and also hot, funny, sociable is tragic in its own way, which I think the author did try to touch on but was too misogynistic too really get through. Of course, she was reduced to villain status by the fandom and anime alike because she got in the way of the supposed romance in their psychological horror anime.

Because Gwen is a teenager who was betrayed by her father and taken in by adults who constantly filled her head with the idea that people, including her dad, had to die for millions to be saved. Because despite said adults knowing the bad situation she was in chose to treat her completely like an agent, a warrior, a soldier instead of a child that needed love and compassion. Because despite living in fear of Miguel sending her back home, she still chose to disobey him to see Miles when she had the chance because she loves him that much. Because she was in a lose/lose situation where telling Miles about his dad needing to die would inflict a pain she was experiencing and didn't want him to bear, but not telling him would run the risk of him finding out from someone else and making her look like she was being malicious. Because she was used as a scapegoat by Miguel when he was the main reason Miles was able to escape, and punished by him for it. Because she recognized the hurt she caused and took accountability, unlike any of the adults in her life including PETER B. PARKER. Because she is actively trying to make up for the mistakes she made while she was still under Miguel's influence.
None of you media illiterate dweebs who treat her like she's Judas Iscariot and the Whore of Babylon combined because she made some very understandable mistakes should continue to watch these children's movies because I'm afraid the writing for Gwen is too complicated for you to grasp. Gwen has actual, meaningful flaws than cause actual, meaningful conflict and lead her her having actual, meaningful character development. Even more pertinent, her failings aren't a result of any kind of malice, but rather a desire to not see the people she loves hurt, an understandable character trait that stems from the trauma of her accidentally killing someone close to her OH MY GOD DO YOU NOT WATCH THESE MOVIES?
Honestly Peter B is way more infuriating in this movie since he's an adult who doesn't view Miguel as an authority figure (if their comic relationship is the same in this movie then they're friends and Miguel has a lot of respect for Peter) and has nothing for Miguel to hold over his head like Gwen did. He should have known better, he should have been the one most defending Miles, he should have defended Gwen when Miguel was blaming her for something Peter knew wasn't her fault. He was RIGHT THERE next to Gwen on the train and saw Miguel fail to subdue Miles (despite the fact that he could have, you know, injected him with a powerful, non lethal paralytic that would have made it exceedingly easy to take Miles into custody and instead decided to monologue like a dipshit). Give me a reason other than abject misogyny why you think Gwen deserves to be hated in a way Peter doesn't, I dare you.
Rant over. TL:DR, Gwen doesn't deserve the hate she gets from idiots in the fandom who can't see past "Muh poor Miles got his feelings hurt."

People who are saying 'it's so sad/annoying that Eloise never realized Penelope was in love with Colin!' and then using that to villify her and claim she was a bad friend to Penelope are. . .so missing the point.
WE know because we see much of the show through Penelope's eyes. Debling knew because Cressida told him. Cressida knew because she had a vested interest in that being the narrative. Violet knew because Colin very obviously asked her about friendship and love, and has a grand total of ONE woman he could have been talking about.
It is not on Eloise to assume truths about Penelope.
Read that again.
It is NOT on Eloise to assume truths about Penelope!
In the same way it was not on COLIN to assume Pen had a crush on him. The thing about trust is that you HOPE that the person you care about will open up to you, and in fact, it is GOOD that Eloise didn't notice. It doesn't mean she was a bad friend, or self centered, but rather that she was of the belief that her friend would be open with her.
That's not unreasonable of her.
How is Eloise meant to listen to a fact that is never voiced, and in fact, is actively denied?
Eloise asked Penelope in Season 2 if she would ever know what it was like to have a crush on someone, the way she had on Theo. Penelope told her STRAIGHT UP "no, I wouldn't know". What did you want Eloise to do? Accuse Penelope of being a liar and then proclaim she was clearly in love with her brother?
Same with Lady Whistledown- Penelope assured multiple times she wasn't LW to Eloise because when Eloise was talking about her, and having theories, and going on a detective chase about it, Penelope never told her she was LW.
The fact that Eloise HAD to assume these things about Penelope was an indication the friendship had problems. And these problems are tied up in Penelope's arc: coming into the light and living her authenticity unapologetically. Because she kept so much close to the chest for so long. 'Eloise didn't listen'. Penelope never SAID ANYTHING about it for her to listen TO.
Now, does that mean Eloise is blameless and saintly and good? No. That would be lame and boring and would do her a disservice in being a complex, interesting female character. The way near all the women in this show are. The truth is that BOTH Eloise AND Penelope were wrapped up in the immediacy of their own lives, and had different goals and interests from one another. In many ways, Eloise and Penelope were together by proximity, rather than aligned in purpose.
But also. . .we are ALL more invested in our own lives than those of our friends. We care for our friends, yes, but we live our own lives first and foremost. And when we have friendships, we trust that they will talk to us about their lives, their truths, their passions, and their hopes and that we will celebrate such with them. Whilst Eloise has ignored Penelope at times, Penelope has also ignored Eloise. Eloise has assumed Penelope to have the same interests in feminism and not in marriage as she does, but Penelope does not talk to her otherwise until they have a fight about it.
It explodes out of her. Comes out, almost against her will.
They have issues communicating. That's relatable.
But people don't want to see the relatability of these women. They want to compare them and pit them against each other, instead of trying to understand BOTH of them.
Listen, the truth is that this fandom has a misogyny problem. We only want to empathize with the woman we see as the most relatable for our own viewing, and any other woman who is in any way contesting their immediate happiness is turned into a villain. In fact, in Polin, it's extended to ANYONE who has done Penelope any form of disservice ever, as if tension and conflict isn't what drives a narrative.
Colin said one thing that was hurtful to Pen? Burn him at the stake. Eloise is hurt by Penelope's secrecy? Well, she should have listened more, and fuck her, she was a bad friend. Marina told Penelope to butt out of her relationship and to stay in her lane? She's evil and cruel and treated Pen horribly. Penelope never did anything wrong, everyone else is the problem.
This denies Penelope her own accountability, her own narrative of growth, firstly,
But secondly, ALL the women in this show have compelling reasons for acting the way they do. Not just the one you like the most.
I see people talking about how they feel so bad for Penelope, that she has undergone so much and has no one to really confide in, that she feels she has no friend with which to unburden herself with: but the same is true for Eloise. She had no one to talk to about the pain and grief she experienced at the end of Season 2, and kept mum about Penelope's identity as LW all throughout. The same was true for Marina, who had been Otherized from the moment she stepped into the ton, and had been physically and emotionally abused by her own family as she faced down a future of potential misery. Why can you see and sympathize from one character's perspective and yet not the other? Why is it okay to proclaim one a villain, and the other an innocent?
If you can feel empathy for Penelope, you better be ready to feel it for Eloise, for Cressida, for Marina, for Kate and Edwina, because ALL these women underwent some very painful circumstances in their lives, and all of them made mistakes that resulted in other people getting hurt. They have all been hero in their own story, and the antagonist in another. As we all are.
How ironic to see 'well, Eloise is terrible because she's' not seeing it from HER perspective!'
when we are doing the same

Your post about misogyny in the HP fandom is so true especially because when it comes to Snape and Lily- you can’t make someone else change if they don’t want to. You can try and help someone/show them another perspective(not that anyone has to do that either) but the ultimate decision to change is on the specific person and nobody else. And for people to blame all that on Lily is just…ack
@puppyduckster I completely agree with you and yet… this is a comment I saw today online, which really drove me mad:
Tumblr media
🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
“OmG sHe Is So DisLoYaL to PoOr SeVvY wHo NEEEEEEDED A REAL FRIEND TO STAND BY HIM WHEN HE WAS TURNING INTO A DICKHEAD”
Eh, I don’t know how to tell you, misogynistic dude, but that’s precisely what she did???!
She literally stood by him, and refused to believe what others were telling her about him because no doubt he was denying it and saying her friends were trying to paint him in a bad light because they didn’t like him - I mean hard agree but whatever - which btw is exactly what James did: he knew one of the order was a spy but NO WAY IN HELL COULD IT POSSIBLY BE ONE OF HIS FRIENDS -
She probably had lots of arguments with him about the war and the nasty bigots he was hanging out with and the weirdo spells he was creating (like hanging people upside down and slashing skin; Snape: I only invented them, I haven’t been using them at all - in which case how come people are using Levicorpus all over the place and it’s very popular- how, exactly???).
And then she sees a rare moment of poor old innocent misunderstood Sev letting his true colours shine through: turning on her because she saw him when he was vulnerable-
GOD FORBID THAT A WOMAN YOU DESIRE (🤢) SEE THIS AND TRY TO RESCUE YOU: BIG MISTAKE! (Shame her immediately, God forbid you let this pass!!)
- and he calls her a horrible slur to her face, and it’s the final straw. She’s known this day was coming and can’t fool herself any longer into believing he’s not turning into a wix fascist, and her reaction is brave af: she finishes their toxic friendship, there and then.
That’s not to say she might not still have cried about the ending of this friendship, the boy he could have grown up to be. But she stuck to her guns and refused to take him back. Thank fuck!
Anyway, as you can see, misogyny alive and well in the HP fandom… 🙄
(Also, in relation to that post: feck off with you - Lily did have friends, Slughorn described her as cheeky and popular! Plus, she’s friends with Sirius in canon, they write to each other separately to Sirius & James and she calls him Padfoot and confides in him about her worries regarding James, and asking for his help! And in the films she and Remus are friends too!)

🚨RANT POST 🚨
You know what I’m just come right out and say it.
This community as a whole doesn’t fucking deserve Vanessa or Gregory.
Here you have two characters, VITAL to the plots of pretty much the entirety of SW era, obvious connections to what is happening and parallels to each other, and yet they are treated like LITERAL SHIT.
The Gregory hate is soo forced at this point. Like how hard is it to comprehend the fact that this CHILD was thrown into a horrific LIFE OR DEATH situation? I’m sorry what tf would you have done if you had 400 lb animatronics trying to rip you apart? And as far as this ‘lack of empathy’ bc he ‘didn’t care about Freddy’s feelings and therefore doesn’t care about Freddy..’ SHUT. THE. FUCK. UP. He literally risked his fucking life to save him getting all those parts, just bc he doesn’t show emotions the way you THINK he should doesn’t make him a fucking psychopath! He’s a CHILD!!! And if I may be so bold, saying a character is inherently bad bc of the way they behave reeks of ableism (yes I am an autistic Gregory truther but that’s besides the point). He had EVERY RIGHT to defend himself and guess what? He wouldn’t have rescued a mind controlled woman he barely knew and was honestly quite fucking rude to him if he LACKED EMPATHY. FUCK OFF WITH THAT SHIT.
And as for Vanessa, what do you even want me to say? She’s one of if not THE most underutilized character in the fucking franchise. And yet she’s treated so terribly. The misogyny is literally DRIPPING from so many people that only see her as the ‘sexy security guard’ UGHH YES she is attractive I will give her that, but she is SO MUCH MORE than that. I’m almost confident that the people that wanna write her off don’t know her story. Did you pay attention to help wanted? Did you read the AR emails? Did you even play the therapy tapes?? HER STORY IS THERE. Yes it’s butchered to shit but it’s still enough that you can draw conclusions and not write her off as a one off one dimensional angry bitch.
I understand that people have different tastes, and you are absolutely allowed to like and dislike what you want. But my god, the complete disrespect for these two it just.. it BOTHERS ME.
These two deserve so much more than what they’re given. Even the franchise itself I don’t think is giving them the respect they deserve. Making Gregory look like an antagonist as ‘good vs bad’ between him and Cassie, and then just blatantly ignoring Vanessa into obscurity even though it’s clear Scott wants to do more with the character. For crying out loud, SHES IN THE MOVIE! And yes it did help to put her on the map to some degree but she’s still not getting the right respect.
I don’t mean to be negative, I’m not a negative person, I just.. needed to get these thoughts about bc they’ve been bubbling for so long.
Also please note I am NOT talking about the 3 star fam fandom in this post, you guys are MORE than respectful to these characters. I may not fully agree with every interpretation but I can appreciate the love that’s still being poured out to them. So you guys more than do deserve them :3
Ok rant over, back to working on my WIPs ✌️

RAPID FIRE ACOTAR CHARACTER HOT TAKES
. [Mostly focused on side characters but thoughts about our mains too BC why not]
🔥Emerie is one of THE most underrated characters and deserved a bigger storyline in ACOSF (obviously it’s Nestas book but other side characters like Gwyn, Feysand, etc got more time that could have been hers)
🔥I don’t know why people really like Helion or want him with LOA😭 mans has let her be in an abusive relationship for DECADES & I feel like if he really loved/deserved her he would have blood dueled by now. he might make a fine father for Lucien but I don’t want to read a love story that involves a few centuries of abandonment
🔥I like genuinely wonder often if the rest of Lucien’s brothers are evil evil. Like if Eris is playing along to their abusive dad’s whims, how do we know the rest of them aren’t? They likely don’t know Eris is different so why would he know that about them? Lucien didn’t? IDK i’m just curious about more Vanserras
🔥Jurian is genuinely one of the funniest characters👀 his revival may be a little pointless but his vibes are immaculate and he’s underrated
🔥You don’t have to hate Mor for leading Azriel on (there are others reasons to not like her) but she definitely did💀aside from the fact every character including her says it we get literal scenes of it too. like she FR tells Feyre he has a huge dick and just says so many other sexual/romantic things about him that are NOT platonic, it makes sense he’s been confused AF😭
🔥Kallias and Viviane have one of the sweetest love stories in the series and I wish we saw more of them. they also just have such good vibes & if they’re gonna keep popping up for little cameos I want more deets
🔥TW SA: I won’t even argue about Tamlins wrongs against Feyre bc i’ve done so before & it isn’t worth the breath BUT it bewilders me that so many people ignore/excuse what he did to Lucien😭 aside from just the generally abusive vibes he not only ignored what Ianthe was doing to Lucien (when equally if not more depressed people like Feyre/Rhys noticed) but also made him have sex with that creepy ass predator😩 Lucien’s struggle with that is so overlooked in general but still bothers me people ignore Tamlins fault in it and that Lucien is now groveling for his friendship
🔥 While on the topic of SA, i’ve seen a lot of people in the fandom have such a gross attitude about what happened to Rhys recently. like man has plenty of flaws and has done a lot of wrong things but that’s not an excuse to make jokes about him being SA’d for DECADES especially when male SA representation is so rare and it’s dumbass jokes like the kind fans are now making that makes guys feel uncomfortable about speaking up
🔥One more on this topic, the SA Nesta experienced is also SO overlooked, even by the narrative itself. The general fact she was using sex as a form of self harm/punishment is also weirdly addressed a few times but then excused if it’s with Cassian in a way that’s so gross
🔥Feyre and Rhys having Nyx so soon was a bad decision. No matter how many people bring up the “oh they were so close to dying” “oh they don’t want to waste time” blah blah blah doesn’t change the fact that’s a TERRIBLE reason to have kids😭 like does the fact they made that decision kind of make sense given what they experienced? sure! was it at all smart or level headed or much more than a trauma response? literally no
🔥I feel like Rhys’ mom…kind of sucks? She’s spoken about more highly than any of the other ACOTAR parents but she literally forced her son to go to a child soldier camp she knew was full of misogyny, poverty, and a bunch of other barbaric practices, did nothing to help any of the other kids unless she was forced to (Rhys brought cassian home, and Az’s mom begged her to take him, she then let Rhys & Cas beat on this poor traumatized boy) and overall Rhys turned out far from perfect but actually could have been SO much worse when you think about it
🔥On the topic of bad parents KIER BEING ALIVE STILL IS SO STUPID AND MAKES NO SENSE.

I wish more people would realize that analyzing past stuff to try and find signs of abuse is not a good idea, especially right now... I've seen way too much of that on twitter. And I really like the way you explained it, thank you
If I had to guess, I'd say people are trying to take the image of Wilbur they have in their head and reconcile it with what we now know. And since that's a pretty intense change, they try to find old stuff he did and retcon it as abusive, to help with the transition
I also know that some fans have had grievances about him for a long time, but didn't feel safe airing it out because of his fanbase, and they're now getting all of that out. Some of it is very based (him being rude to Baghera) and some... less. I've seen people saying his lyrics made it clear he was an abuser (not all writing is autobiographical and self-deprecation is a thing) or that him being friend with minors was a red flag (minors can and should have adults friends, it's not inherently bad)
at the end of the day, we're coping like we can, I guess
I think this is a very good way of looking at it. I get the struggle with trying to reconcile the wilbur soot we saw vs the one we've now learned about. there's a very distinct difference here between the persona he put on and the real guy. and that can be very difficult for people to process and I understand it. but at the same time, it's leading people to miss the point that we don't know what was part of his internet persona and what wasn't. because we never really knew will gold.
I also think there's something to be said for the fact that a lot of these people aren't familiar with shelby's content or don't know much about her, and often in fandom we see fans being far less likely to empathize with women, especially a woman they don't know much about. I'm not trying to say these people are being misogynistic on purpose, but I really don't think we can ignore the subconscious misogyny going on with fans who are taking a story about a woman being abused, and choosing to focus on their favorite white boy and his interactions with wilbur instead. that's definitely a factor here too.
and of course there's also just the fact that people struggle to comprehend that abusers can act like nice, normal people. because abusers are normal people. they see all these past interactions on streams and videos of wilbur with his friends, they look at his music or things he mentioned about his friendships, and try to find flaws in it so they can prove he was evil the whole time instead of acknowledging that he's just a guy. a guy who had the capacity to be nice and funny and care about his friends while also being a manipulative, hurtful, and dangerous person to be around at the same time. those things can coexist, and pretending they can't only makes it easier for abusers to get away with their abuse.
