i find it weird for a reason i cant place that of all the art mediums ive dipped into, 3D modeling has always been the hardest to get any grasp on. like, every 3D art program is so unintuitive and confusing, and you cant even just fuck around and find out with most of them.

Sitting on the bar, where Simon usually sits at, you waited—for him. The other side didn’t have any seats and there were no customers so it wouldn’t really cause any fuss with your boss.

Mindlessly scrolling on your phone, you didn’t even hear the familiar chime of the door when it opened. Simon watched as you didn’t even flinch, or blink, at the sound of his arrival, he chuckled at the opportunity.

Sneaking up behind you and using his gloved hands to cover over your eyes, making you jump with a small yelp.

“Guess who?” He grins at the way you put your hand over his and pull it down while you look up at him with a playfully annoyed look.

“Don’t think it’s gonna let up any time soon” Simon had his head turned towards the window, watching and listening how hard the water is smacking against the glass. Making you sigh in disappointment.

“Mm” You press your lips together before biting at your lower lip, trying to come up of a way to get home dry.

“What’s wrong?” He stares at you, wondering what you were so worried about and what he can do to help.

“If this rain doesn’t go away I might be drenched by the time I get home” You shake your head, huffing out a sigh as you accept your fate and lean forward to rest your elbows on the wooden countertop.

After half an hour of talking the usual routine of how each other’s day was and complaining about the creepy customers. He leaves. Coming back a minute later embarrassed since he forgot his phone at the counter.

When you go to clock out and hope that your coat will at least try to keep you dry, you find a small black compact umbrella on his seat and a small sticky note that read: no need to return it :). His handwriting was somewhat neat, kinda rounded. He must’ve sneaked it in when he ‘forgot’ his phone.

He looked at the phone charm on the edge of your phone case then back at you. Exhaling a chuckle to show how childish he thinks it is, but really, he finds it cute how you can find such interest in such cute things.

“What the hell is he?” He asked, taking the phone charm in his hand and twisting it between his fingers. It was a tiny Pekkle 3D charm, a little model.

“A duck. Can’t ya’ tell?” You watched his amused expression. Placing the little ducky to stand on the counter next to his coffee cup.

“He’s kinda stupid looking”.

“HEY!”.

“You’re spending Christmas working?” Simon asked, surprised that you’d even pick up the shift. It was a week and a half before Christmas so he’s surprised that you’re not gone to go visit family or something

“Yeah? I don’t really have plans, so might as well make money instead of wasting time” You sigh, kinda upset since you just realized that you are spending Christmas alone. Simon hummed in response, looking down at his cup of coffee.

Days later, a day before he’s deployed, he stopped by during the day. Catching you by surprise, you had just clocked in, since you weren’t really expecting him at all actually.

“I can’t really stay long. I wanted to drop this off” He said hastily, like he was anxious rather than in a rush, dropping two paper bags in your hands, one plain brown and the other decorated, and leaving before even saying goodbye.

“That’s your guy? Didn’t think he’d be so..” Your coworker bounced excitedly as she followed you to the staff room so you can see what he gave you. To be honest, your were excited as well.

“I— I never said he was ‘my guy’!” You immediately shut up when you opened the little cardboard box and saw a mini christmas tree inside it with tiny ornaments. You can tell he painted tiny things on the ornaments it came with: a coffee cup, a duck, a skull. Something only you two would understand, along with other things Christmas related.

“AWWWWW” You coworker gushed at how much effort he put into this, leaning against you and looking at each of the messily painted ornaments. You knew he wasn’t very artistic but you can see the effort he put in. Placing it at the front of the counter, arranging the decor on the small branches in a way that the design is always showing.

The other decorated bag was pink with yellow stars on it, stapled shut with translucent pink makeshift bow on the handle

It had a tag that said: ‘don’t open until x-mas’

Christmas eve, you stared at the clock until it was exactly 12. Opening up the bag and getting the tissue paper out of the way there were three things. A dark blue mug with white stars on it, a tiny astronaut keychain, and your favorite thing most of all: a duck plushy, but a specific duck, Pekkle.

It made your heart flutter that he was so thoughtful, getting you things he knows you’d like, let alone get you anything. For the entire rest of your shift— week actually— all giddy and fluttery like a school girl. Thinking about what to get him, and if he’ll treasure it.

Infinity Train Boots!

Made these a while back as part of my Simon cosplay, must have been almost a month, but I didn't post the process!

(EDIT: hey I did some fixing up of my cosplay which you can see here in this post!)

Not actually sure if anybody would care because it's so niche, unlike my Spider-Gwen suit, but I did write about how I did the Infinity Train harpoon pack, so I'll discuss this too!

STEP 0: Acquire reference pictures:

Yep, pretty straightforward.

Note that Simon's boots have an extra bar/strap thingy, whereas Ryan and Min-Gi's do not.

I didn't include it because it kinda looks ugly and I didn't know how fragile the strap might be.

STEP 1: Acquire Boots!

I got these MIA boots from Journeys Canada. They only cost around 60 bucks which is a bit pricey for cosplay, but I'm not about to go thrift shopping when I'm in a time crunch and I can just order online and get free delivery within 2 days. (Also these days 60 bucks for boots from a retail store is considered cheap. Inflation is nasty.)

They came with these cardboard thingies inside to keep the structure of the boots. They have "left" and "right" written on them in Chinese which was helpful for me when I got a bit confused about which side was which.

Save those for later. You'll need them.

STEP 2: Paint the soles silver

Literally any acrylic silver paint works. May take several layers. Make sure to put masking tape around the top edge of the soles.

I didn't use a primer on the base but you probably should. Any white acrylic paint or Gesso would do and you wouldn't need like 8 coats of silver. Do as I say not as I do.

And make sure to seal everything with a varnish or mod podge!

Here are also the cut toe caps and some silver craft foam. The craft foam was kind of a mistake I'll get into it soon.

STEP 3: Make toe caps

Here's me making sure the placement is good.

I glued the craft foam onto the cardboard caps, and then I was thinking "well the little bit hanging over it isn't going to be a problem, nope! I'll just glue them down and it'll blend right in!"

HAHAHAHA. WRONG.

STEP 3.1: Fuck up the toe caps because you were winging this and you have no idea how crafting materials work you idiot

GROSS. DISGUSTING. VILE.

The hot glue melted the craft foam and now it's got this weird melty edge all around it that's all goopy and shit. Anyway you dont want your boots to look fucked up, you want them to look smooth like polished steel, or whatever they were made of in the show.

STEP 3.2: Fix toe caps

Everything can be fixed with Model Magic and acrylic paint! (and seal your paint with a sealant again!)

I just took some model magic (a type of lightweight air dry clay from Crayola, the cheapest you can get. Other more legit craft supply brands make similar materials as well), and squished it into the ugly bits, making a mostly seemless transition from craft foam to clay to sole.

TIP: to make model magic smooth before sanding, dab your fingers in some water to smooth it out! This also works for Paperclay as well if you decide to use a more higher end type of air dry clay.

STEP 4: Make the back metal thing that goes around the heel

So I did this kinda in tandem with the toe caps which is why the pics will look a little out of order but essentially, I took the parts of the cardboard that I cut off, and I cut them in half, put some other cardboard in between, and then sandwiched the thing in metallic craft foam.

This time it was a bit more successful because I was able to hide the weird gross melted edges on the inside. Also paint that shit silver!

Now you can glue the "heel caps(?)" directly to your boots, but I decided to use stick-on velcro instead so they're kinda removable, and may be easier to transport or clean or something? ehhh.

STEP 5: Make those handle things

So I also hit a bit of a snag with these. I ordered EVA foam dowels with a semi-circle cross-section as well as a triangular one, but I quickly realized they would be too flimsy sticking out like that unless I put something hard in between them.

So this isn't pictured, but I got some thin crafting wire from Dollarama and just bent them into L shapes, and glued the smaller dowels around them. I also shoved them into the bigger down and glued it down.

You can also see from these pictures that that leaves a weird gap in between the smaller dowels. Again I just used model magic to cover them up. There's probably a better solution but this was the one I went with.

I also lengthened the top "handle" part eventually because it looks better that way. (Please ignore the mess on my desk >_<)

Then I just paint them silver like everything else!

COMPLETE!

The nut and bolts are actual nuts and bolts. Since the base was just craft foam and cardboard, you can poke a hole in them easily and insert the bolt.

Y/n story: they always wanted a greenhouse, grew plants all the time. Their godparents had land in Arizona, and they had surrounding land that hadn’t been bought yet. Y/n decided to buy it once they were older, and they have the land now, 3 acres, plus the two acres from her godparents that she used to build her house on.In her house she had a ton of plants, it is somewhat small but cosy, she has a giant garage for robotics and stuff since she had always wanted to work with that, and they make small little guys similar to helpy. Once they begin construction on their land they start looking for workers, there was going to be the main greenhouse area which they would tend to, a restaurant in the center, a small daycare for kids of adults who wanted to go to relax, and a small cafe, all inside the giant greenhouse. They start looking when someone catches their attention, they went out on a ride with their cousins on ATV’s and found robot parts by the mountains, that seemed to be mostly intact, they looked like the sun almost, and considering every time y/n found machine parts they would take them, they decided this time would be no different, they place the animatronic in their lap and continue their ride as per usual, and going fast over the bumpy parts of the dirt makeshift road because that is always fun. Once they make it back to the land, they show their find to their godparents, who are thrilled! And their cousins are excited too. They take them to their garage with the help of their godfamily and get to work on fixing up some damaged wires and cables, and also cleaning up the shell and endo skeleton. The animatronic seems yellow, like the sun, it reminds them of something but they can’t place it. Then they turn it on and shenanigans ensue.

Y/n behavior: Nice, assertive, loves doing fun or dangerous stuff(ridding atv’s at 60 mph on dirt paths on the mountain) but also loves arts and crafts, is good with kids but never wanted them, which is why the greenhouse has a daycare, like to joke around a lot, and hanging out with their cousins even if they make fun of them sometimes, they have a ton of hobbies like sewing, crocheting, 3d printing, drawing, building crafts out of cardboard, 3d modeling, and building with legos.

Y/n appearance: is often seen wearing gardening clothes, a sun hat, or mechanic clothes and a bandana(that they made by crocheting it)

Y/n likes: doing crafts, dangerous things like riding the atv’s, having fun, relaxing, robots, sun/moon, learning about psychology, always 3d printing stuff, playing Mexican music over the greenhouse speakers(like la flaca) especially in the restaurant,

Y/n dislikes: karens, people destroying their plants in the greenhouse.

Silly moments and memories: y/n is sitting with her grandma by a fire pit with their family, she notices she is eating peanuts, they ask if they could have any, and grandma pulls an endless well of peanuts out of her pocket, with some candy, surprise lol. The whole family just looks in shock at grandma, like how tf???

They had a piñata one day to celebrate Christmas and a hook was sticking out, so y/n gets a small gash on their hand (horizontal from the base of their thumb to the other side of the hand(no this is not very specific wdym)) while blindfolded and going at it on the piñata. (Yea y/n is sorta Hispanic I’m sorry but it’s so fun to write that stuff)

okay i have a confession to make as a trashmaid fan.

for some reason i have two different ways of wanting to bring the comic to life.

the first way being to create life-sized replicas of tidy, neat, and the boys--and take photos in the appropriate settings. these replicas would be made out of garbage that were tossed in the sea. yes, even the plastic bags would be used to make tidy's top. 

i've contemplated on whether or not i would use cardboard and paint to put on the eyes for example, but i'm sure there's enough junk in the waters to help with every feature that matters. 

this would be good because it would promote a message that we have enough junk in the ocean to perfectly replicate the entirety of "the little trashmaid," and multiple times. it does what the comic itself is sought to do--address a real issue in a creative fashion. if it were showcased in a museum, i wouldn't mind it being called something like "the little trash-made." 

BUT THEN I HAVE THE OTHER WAY, which is to create cgi-versions of the characters, but give them realistic textures. like ricky for example. obviously you'd expect him to have realistic jacket wrinkles, and maybe his shoes look a little worn out because he's used them for a while, but what about the faces? what about the cartoony faces that TLT is surrounded with time to time? what about a panel like this?

obviously the bodies are not hard, but the faces.

this was mainly done out of my unhealthy obsession with public service announcements (hell, one of my TLT fanarts was inspired by one from the new zealand coastguard). my deeply uncomfortable fascination with the idea of stylized characters with realistic textures is kind of to be blamed on psa's. 

but i have to be careful with this want, since the line between stylization and realism is a dangerous line to walk across. since i mentioned psa's earlier, there are a few poster psa's over in france that stylized realistic emojis onto a creepy person's head. and i'm talking "textbook accurate" emojis. this may have been done as a way to warn the public about a rise in online predators, but i wouldn't touch any one of the heads with a 30 ft pole. i sincerely don't recommend you look them up, unless you like sleeping with the lights on. 

just know that it connects to a problem with wanting to see a stylized "oh my god she tried to eAT MY LIT CIGARETTE" ricky with realistic skin and hair and that stuff. at the base level, it's like those french "pred-mojis" ads. stylized head, realistic body. again, it's kind of a dangerous path to walk down if you want to see cartoon bodies with some realism to it. again, KIND OF.

but i still wouldn't pass up the opportunity to create realistic stylized models of our trashmates. panels like this look capable to emulate:

(i did try to find a relatively normal looking panel but s0s2's art style for stuff like this still has that toony edge no matter what so it's kinda hard lol)

i can mingle with the blocky fingers and ricky's haircut.

I'm going to complain because I can and there's nothing you can do about it. ~

Okay enough of my sass ~

Shoe shopping should be fun, it starts out that way wondering around looking at whatever happens to catch my eye, but quickly becomes tiring and disappointing...~

Why? Aside from the unreasonable cost they want to charge for a shoe, my size comes to be the major factor...~

People who are tall with lengthy feet often encounter problems finding their size and I can sympathize with them however for me, it's my stupidity small feet...~

Women's shoes start at 6, (36) you'll be lucky to find a size 5 (35) anywhere.....~

Even 5s don't fit me so I'm left for children's sections and do you know how hard it is to find comfortable shoes in kids? ~

Extremely difficult not to mention , choice options are slim and even in children's I find it difficult. ~

Why? Because I am a size 2.5 to 3 with an occasion 3.5 depending on brands. ~

So out of the whole store, only two pairs were in my size, and one was uncomfortable but I was considering it because honestly I find it extremely hard to pay more than 20 at most for a pair of shoes especially tennis shoes. For heels I'd be willing to pay more because they have the ability to be pretty and sparkly.~

I ended up going with the comfortable pair that ironically closely matches my pair that has been needing replaced, so it's silver and sparkly ~

But while I can appreciate I found a pair that fits I'm a little disappointed, there was a pair white with gold sparkly stars, but it wasn't in my size not to mention I'd love a pair of knee high to thigh sexy boots but sadly they didn't come in my size either. ~

Maybe I'll go back later and get some uncomfortable tennis shoes or flats in more neutral color if I can find the right size. ~

But you know it's just disheartening to not find shoes in your size or on the occasion it occurs for it to be uncomfortable like okay I'll just walk around feeling like I'm walking with a hard cardboard or plastic like it doesn't bother me.....~

I like shopping by myself but at the same time it's hard not to be conscious when little children stare at you for looking in children's section, like yeah sorry my feet aren't going to grow any bigger...~

Then you get the cute couples that have me wishing, I'd have someone to give me compliments like that..~

Did I mention these shoes have zero traction so let's hope I don't slip and die when exploring nature trails , (yes being dramatic) ~

They had some cute sunglasses and socks tho so I may go back for those later, that yellow heart shaped pair kinda stole my heart and the ruffles socks are every girl's dream...~

I kinda want to go dress shopping, to cheer myself up from the stress of trying to find things in my size that prove difficult but I probably won't at least not for a while yet there are other things I'll have to be responsible about paying for (bills ewww lol) ~

I wish I could exchange body parts as easily as dolls, a new face would be nice and I'd modify my boobs and stomach but sadly such changes are not easily done..~

It'd be better if I could find some semblance of appreciate for my current features while I'm working towards changing my body into a more pleasing shape/size ~

Do you think I can meet the qualifications for a hot girl summer this year?~

I mean unlikely even if I get where I want to be I'm still riddled with my insecurities but oh well ~

More important than having a swimsuit model worthy body for summer is to pet as many as cute dogs as possible, read books on my list and maybe just maybe go somewhere fun for weekend or like day to two day vacay and of course take picturesque pictures ~

it looks GREAT i REALLY LIKE IT

i really adore the artstyle they've used for the 3d models, they aren't as jarring as the old ones (which i didnt like at first but they grew on me) and still look real nice and stylized - a little nit picky but sometimes the mouths look? odd?? but like eh whatever. the noses too sometimes but again. eh whatever.

i will say though. i like the artstyle but. laytons new model. im kinda. iffy on it. at least right now it's prolly gonna be the old 3d models situation again where i gotta adjust then i can appreciate them in their own way but as of the moment. im kinda. hmmmm. i'll need to see them more in action too of course but right now he just feels. off. at times it looks fine and then others it looks odd. there's the outfit change, sure, which i wasnt the greatest fan of but i hardly hate it - i just prefer his big ol thick coat and sweater. that's fine, that isnt the problem, but he just. his whole shape language just feels! off! that man is a cylinder!! rounded squares!! reassuring and reliable!! in this he kinda looks like a triangle! maybe it's just the one idle pose cus we didnt see much STILL. part of what i liked about him is that this man is a TUBE. he is the cardboard tube that cain killed his brother with. now though he's looking less tube and more rolled up carpet with a rubber band on. but then again who knows these are just my initial gut reactions! maybe layton just decided he wanted to go to the club in which case slay king go for it also his head just looks like a touch too big but maybe that's also just my brain imagining things

also. luke's model. perfect no notes fantastic bowtie

the 3d cutscenes looked really nice which im pleasantly surprised by BUT i really hope they wont be used to like. replace 2d cutscenes. i dont imagine they will since they're a staple of the series but still.

kinda hope it stays like what we saw in the trailer where it's just layton's musings and lukes thoughts on things, maybe interspersed a bit throughout the gameplay where they need to be like 'look he picked up a thing here's a quick shot of it!' just yknow complimentary stuff and little moments. then again though i'd love for them to prove me wrong i just still have miracle mask cutscene ptsd

either way i like them so far and i hope this might mean we get a few more cutscenes where we can just see layton and luke interacting with stuff more. and also give us more swordfighting because i mean. layton swordfighting. it's the first time we've seen him in ages i'd be there trying to shove as many layton swordfights in as possible, finally give him a sword to just have on him at all times so that every single cutscene there's always the potential he'll just whip it out

the 2d art we have seen FANTASTIC i LOVE IT it's GREAT and the environments (or environment we've only seen like one) is DELIGHTFUL im so glad to see that good ol layton architecture im so excited to see more, ive always adored how environments and backgrounds are stylized also LITTLE LUKE AND LITTLE LAYTON SURVEYING THE SCENE!! THEY ARE JUST. IN THE CORNER. THEY ARE LOOKING!! it's a really small detail but it's GREAT i really hope it wont be just the one area

i also really like the hud we've seen so far, it looks clean without being obstructive or distracting - was a bit worried how they'd make it work on switch but so far it looks good still a bit worried about the memo just cus i know i will be playing mostly docked and memo functions with joysticks are. eck. but like hey im the one thats gonna opt out of using a stylus so that's on me, hopefully we can just stamp some stuff like circles and numbers maybe and that'll be enough

lastly though THE MUSIC!!! YEAHHH LAYTON MUSIC!!! layton music is always good this is no exception, absolutely looking forward to eventually having this new puzzle music ingrained in my mind after staring at a puzzle for 4 hours really been liking what we've been hearing so far it's got the good ol Layton Rhythm and the signature accordion but with a new twist i like, more brass instruments it sounds like man i cannot WAIT to hear what the title theme will sound like they always manage to pop off with the main theme

new hyperfixation girls!!!

okokok this is a lil weird but its like midight rn and i am HYPED AS FUCK!!!!! a while back i got really into fursuit stuff, like i was absolutely obsessed with it n i really wanted to make one. i finally went and bought a few of the materials - a big roll of foam, hot glue, sewing stuff, n then i like totally stressed myself out about it and dropped it entirely :\ that sucked, and it made me pretty sad for a while, but a few months have passed and its back! so im back at it, but this time im trying to be smarter abt it. i went into fursuit stuff with absolutely NO experience with sewing, modeling stuff irl, basically anything that would be important, and id be messing with expensive materials so uh. it was a bad idea. and i tried to do everything at once which fucked with me cos it was just too much work.

but this time i think i have a better idea! i really want to start simple, i plan on eventually making a mini partial, so head paws n maybe a tail. and im starting out as small as i can with just making a cardboard box head. like what cuptoast made to cover their face irl! just a box, stuff added onto it, im going specifically for just cardboard with sharpie and beige masking tape accents (going for both style AND funcionality!) so its going to be a lot simpler. its going to be a fun little experience to just practice making... things, in real life. what i plan on doing is kinda using this as a testbed. i love this project, its cool n i love it, but i want it to still be simple so if i fuck something up i can make it again and replace the parts. and slowly i want to ship-of-theseus her into a full head! im starting with just flat cardboard bits, so a box with flat ears and some floof n stuff, but i slowly want to modify her and swap out parts as individual projects. like at some point, i want to swap the basic drawn-on eyes for full on fursuit follow-mes, and add some foam padding to bits to slowly shape her out. its gonna be fun to build on her over the course of weeks or months, i even made a lil project name and badge for this! because of course i did :3. im calling it project rock salt because its gonna be of my oc salt, but i made a tweaked version of her design im calling "rock salt" because its more adapted to fursuit stuff. so floofier, no clothing items, not as complicated. and i thought of a really cute lil slogan of "foam, fur and faith" for it because i rlly like it. its nice, its going to be fun to learn all these craft skills.

ill try to update this (just kinda for myself, i really like just documenting this) as i add parts and upgrade her. hopefully the base box will be done this weekend! whichll just be the base parts, markers and tape. not doing eyeholes for seeing or padding for making her fit my head, just going to go as simple as i can, those bits can come later. also most of the money from my comms and models will go to her for buying materials for upgrades! because. i have a decent source of income from those now. so i can do stuff like this. so uh. thank you strange internet people :3 i promise ill pick back up on comms soon but i have finals next week so stuff is a lil hectic irl, and i dont want to commit to any stuff dealing with real money cos im anxious abt that. ill probably work on the box for the next while because its a super cool little project im happy to have picked up.

Hi, I’m still here in my patched together cardboard box. It is now becoming hot and my box will need to be replaced soon. Very tragic.

In the meantime, I’ve been busy with all sorts of fun stuff. Making stuff, trying stuff, doing stuff. Here’s some of that stuff. I’ve found a new love for Dragon Ball and fun manga in general. I loved Kaiju No. 8 as well so I think I want to read the manga for that as well. Although I’m afraid that Kaiju No. 8 is going to keep being overpowered rather than making actual fights. There were a few good ones in the anime, but there was a lot where he just hulks out and one shots things which was kinda boring albeit cool looking.

I also decided to pick Baldur’s Gate again. Although I still haven’t finished 3, I did start BG1 with a friend and made impromptu portraits (seen below). I decided to model mine after Cave Johnson as a Barbarian obsessed with the occult and my friend made a gnome cleric named Grug. It worked out since we roleplay pretty well off of each other with these characters lol. That is until I decide randomly that it’s funny to beat Grug’s head in lmao.

Despite all that, I’ve been working on several things as always. Sometimes things run smoothly and I even got one story done, but I’m waiting on test readers and then I need to script. But while I wait on that, I work on other stuff. Maybe too much stuff. I had a neat idea randomly for a kewl opening page for one of the comics I want to do so I sketched that out. Mostly it’s been a lot more writing than drawing lately. But I’ll try to make more drawings just so I don’t get rusty.

Okay, it is morning, and I kinda don't want to think that hard, so who knows how this will turn out. But here's a bit of elaboration.

I've already mentioned the tone whiplash- very serious, like, Serious with a capital S the Emperor is Bringing the Axe Down type scenes, couched between very silly scenes, with a hard transition. It feels like two different shows smushed together sometimes and that's annoying.

You also have "this character disappeared for seven episodes and I thought he was Important" which can happen with tertiary characters, right? Sheng Chujun the third brother, totally expect he would be offscreen for chunks at a time. Du Ning, initially set up like he was important support for the male lead but shunted offscreen, brought back just when you've forgotten him but quickly shunted offscreen, repeat a few times. Annoying but only because that initial setup was a lie. If they hadn't made him feel like he was going to be important at the beginning, I probably wouldn't even care. But Li Ke the Prince and supposed second male lead, super possessive of the female lead's attention? Just... gone for a handful of eps? It might have been mentioned in passing but it was still like, did you forget about him, he seemed like the writer's favorite for a while there but he's just... not here? It's like the tone whiplash but with characters' screentime.

This show is attempting A LOT with its political/palace backdrop and sometimes it is more successful than others. I think the main problem is making the male lead and his brothers, and Fu Xin's mother for that matter, such comedy characters (like, they belong in a comedy, these characters belong on a variety show skit or something), and then trying to put them in Nirvana in Fire or The Story of Minglan.

Also Prince Liang feels like he was written with a younger visual in mind. Like it's very weird that he looks like a grown man and not a "just out of his teens and testing limits" sort of face? But maybe that's because I happen to have read about this time period and know Emperor Gaozu was having kids into his fifties and some of the troublemakers were of an age with Taizong's children, so he SHOULD have been barely grown. But they're playing with timelines and changing names and shit so I guess they can do whatever, but it still feels weird.

I kind of respect what they tried to do with Sheng Chumu, though. I don't like him, mind you, but he's a complicated character- an idle playboy with selfish intentions, who actually genuinely wanted to become a better person but it's only because of a girl. He discovers some modicum of loyalty and sense of duty- but he's still a little petty and selfish sometimes so he doesn't just become the perfect noble citizen after his training montage. His backsliding is annoying but it makes sense, and it's less annoying than if he'd just become a cardboard cutout Loyal General role model character.

I'm still watching Court Lady, even though I don't respect any of these characters except maaaaaybe Du Ning, who had exited the narrative some episodes ago and I thought that was the end of him. But guess who's coming back, like ten episodes later, after the girl he was in love with made some very poor decisions that are going to hurt everyone???? Du Ning!

This is going to be a disaster but at least they didn't forget the one half-decent man in this show, I guess?

So this hypothetical giant A-frame design which I'm hereafter calling Triple A or AAA:

This has a 60° pitch roof and the main 3 story structure's ground floor is 40'x40' and in the foundation is an approximately 32'x32' basement. The roof would actually be 48'-50' long to partially cover a large deck on one end and fully cover a balcony on the second floor. On one sloped side of the main structure is a dormer allowing the kitchen to full wall usage and many windows negating an A-frame's natural disadvantage. The opposite sloped roof has the third frame projecting from it into a 21'W x 20'L x 18'H great room. The ground floor has a master suite, bathroom, library, craft room, and rec room, the second story had a second master suite and bath accessing the balcony, and two bedrooms sharing a bathroom. The third floor is a simple loft for storage or extra bunks.

Attached to the main building is a 2 story guest house/wing. A hallway runs its length with 2 bedrooms on one side, a staircase, bathroom, and bedroom on the other side, and the second floor had a loft ending in another bedroom. The guest wing has an exterior of its own. The basement has the laundry room, an extra pantry, my office, and a wine and beer room.

huge rant and ramble:

as an avid enjoyer of story telling, i strongly despise everyone behind the writing of mlb.

firstly, marinette is supposed to have bad luck through her ditziness. i watched a few episodes, and her “bad luck” seems to just be with anything regarding adrien? it’s actually just more of her being obsessive and leading to stupid mistakes. on the other hand, bridgette obviously has bad luck. getting drenched, burning her tongue, yet she smiles through it. THIS IS POTENTIAL FOR BRIDGETTE’S CHARACTER. marinette’s character has never been properly explained. why is she this way? why is she different as ladybug? (honestly is she even different? kinda, but it’s not obvious) we sure do know why adrien is more carefree as chat noir. but not marinette. on the other hand, the set up for bridgette’s character can lead to so many plot possibilities. why is she so optimistic? is it because it’s what is expected of her? is she purposefully dense? when she gets drenched by the car, she pauses for a short while looking solemn, then smiles. but that smile looks pained almost. like she’s sick of acting that way. (yes i know i’m looking too much into a pv but that’s the point. i’m saying why the pv has potential.) therefore, as ladybug, she can be herself. someone who does whatever she wants, going ahead without thought, being the person she cannot be. anyways, why the hell is marinette even in love with adrien anyways. he just gave her a god damn umbrella or smth idk. i believe my baby bridgette loves felix because she truly sees his soft side. it may be cliche but it sure is a better reason than an umbrella.

secondly, felix. thomas and his team said he was too much like a cliche male anime protagonist, and adrien would let them tell more interesting stories. i mean sure, but it’s most ironic how they even FAILED AT THAT. i rather a cliche male anime protagonist than bitch boy adrien who is as bland as cardboard. felix being cold to those around him is very reasonable because as a model, he’s used to people only liking him for looks and his money. he thinks that bridgette only likes him for those reasons, so he pushes her away. but as chat noir, felix, like bridgette, is able to be someone he truly feels. unrestrained by societal pressures. EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE BOTH POLAR OPPOSITES, ONE BEING COLD WHILE THE OTHER IS TOO WARM, THEY SUFFER FROM THE SAME ISSUES DEEP DOWN. AS HEROES THEY ARE THEMSELVES. ISNT THIS COOL????? ISNT THIS A GOOD STORYTELLING POINT?????????? then even though he needs to kiss ladybug to break the curse, he soon falls in love with her because he admires her boldness, which is something he lacks when he’s himself. he doesn’t have the courage to stand up against his father. i think mlb chat noir likes ladybug for similar reasons but i don’t remember it being connected like that. (never watched the entire 100+ episodes, only bits and pieces, and read up other stuff so might be wrong.)

i believe his team is just straight lazy. they watered down the relationships and characters to the point that dynamic contrast is just not as powerful as before. in early preproduction art, the concept shown is supposed to revolve heavily around the idea of opposites. marinette is now just an obsessive stalker and adrien takes it. chat noir flirts with ladybug and she takes it. where’s the rejection from the opposite party??? where’s the oomph?? where’s the spice???

i do enjoy the concept of them letting go of their crushes. but i didn’t like how it was done in the series. it’s as if the writers don’t fucking know the hell they’re going. felix struggles with understanding whether he truly loves bridgette or is it because of the effects of the ring’s curse. does he really want the curse to be gone? while it gives him bad luck, he gets to be himself. what does he truly want? for bridgette, she realises that she is bothering felix too much. wanting the best for him and for her to focus on being ladybug, she learns to leave him in the past for both their good. she also suffers with the weight of being the main heroine. even though she uses her identity as ladybug to be free of expectations and responsibilities, yet it’s coming back to haunt her so she starts to feel stress. while chat noir and bridgette backs away, felix and ladybug realise that they miss the other’s company since the other was always there for them when they needed it the most. the way this was written in mlb was awfully horrible.

look at what i can do thomas astruc, look at the potential. “their chemistry sucks it’ll never work” SUCK MY BALLS WHAT BULLSHIT IS THAT.

anyways, other than the obvious reason as to why the animation is a lot more visually striking and can express more things the cgi can’t (dynamic movement, special effects, etc) (funny enough, the people behind mlb said the cgi made the show more dynamic???), this is why the pv has much more potential and i will never stop believing that.

(also why didn’t the cgi ever put in effort to make ladybug and chat noir look different than their normal selves. it’s the biggest fucking plot hole that never attempts to change. even the pv tries to make bridgette’s hair change.) (sorry for low quality but see, her hair is more messy too.)

if I "ripped off" P&V then this is news to me because I've only watched each one of their videos once (they're long and they cover a SHITLOAD of topics, bruh) and it's been ages, BUT-

This honestly makes for a great segue to talk about opinion sharing in the fandom in general because ima be honest with you, there's like... only so much you can talk about in the LO crit community. Like as much as we make fun of the stans for all sharing one echo chamber of opinions, the ULO community isn't that much different in the sense of like, having the same takes and opinions about the topic we've chosen to unite on and being hyper passionate about it to the point of having the same conversations at least ONCE per week. Like it's just a webcomic about pink and blue people, a lot of takes are pretty much the exact same and that's not a BAD thing but ... both P&V and I have been in the ULO stratosphere for AGES now so ?? There's only SO MUCH to cover about LO before it all starts blurring together lmao I can't "own" an opinion, and they undoubtedly know that they can't "own" any one specific opinion either, especially within a fandom like this. C'mon now.

"LO is made for babies" or "LO is marketed to children" is also one of the way more common takes, that's like saying I'm ripping off panel redraw accounts for doing my own panel redraws. LO's been compared to other things that are commonly marketed to children like MCU films, Disney movies/shows, etc. time and time again because that's been SUPER common knowledge for YEARS now prior to any of us joining the community, regardless of "who joined first", it's literally WT's entire business model and it's pretty plainly obvious. The specific comparison I made was just one that came to me during a ramble on stream the other night and I wanted to put it to paper because that's what I do here. If that specific comparison has been made in the past already in a 3 hour video that I completely forgot/didn't realize, then great! I'm not the only one who came to this conclusion! Thanks for the validation!

None of this is with shade at P&V or even you, btw, I think it's honorable you want to stand up for them if you enjoy their stuff and I can't harp on you for that but like... this ain't it? Y'all gotta understand this community is still HELLA small as far as fandom culture goes, we all know everybody, have helped build these parts of the community together from cardboard and glue whether or not we still directly affiliate with each other, and share many of the same takes and schools of thought that stem back YEARS before even WE were in the community ourselves so it's kinda silly to try and point fingers at any one person and say "abc is ripping off xyz!" esp when the "ripping off" is just like, having the same opinion about something? A lot of both our takes also intersect with takes from other antiLO accounts and channels that pre-existed theirs and my own. It's a fandom, after all, no single person can lay claim to any specific opinion we're all coming from many of the same schools of thought with foundations that pre-exist us, it's just different people delivering their own unique spins on takes that have been heard many times before. Some of us do re-imaginings, some of us do panel edits, some of us just crack great jokes about it. We're not all pals with each other, we're not even all from the same platforms or community bubbles, but I think we're all pretty familiar with each other's content and what each one of us is about for the most part.

I know you're likely not gonna take "trust me" as a promise that I'm not ripping anyone off, but like... trust me, I'm not sitting here sifting through P&V's 15+ hour video backlog and going "huehuehue I'm gonna steal this!" because I would gain nothing from doing that and their content is ultimately just part of a bigger genre of topics and opinions that are constantly being re-assessed and re-discussed as the comic goes on, they were just the first ones to make an ongoing Youtube series about it (which is commendable in and of itself with how much content they've made around it, most other Youtubers just review it once in 20-90 minutes and call it a day).

P&V's contributions to these discussions have their own personal unique flair to them but the opinions themselves aren't all brand new revelations. Back when I still watched their videos, their alternate scenarios as to how something could be written were pretty neat because it came with their own unique experiences and viewpoints as webcomic creators which isn't something you'll find on every other account. But "LO is marketed to children and here's why" isn't exactly one of those takes because it's one we've all talked about in the community LONG before those videos even existed. And it's been talked about since before any of us were in the community, period. So... yeah, that's pretty much all I have to say on that lmao it's not that complicated, there's no "conspiracy" going on here, it's a Tumblr post about something that's already been talked about in the past by many others, my guy.

As a closing note, accusing me of being hypocritical on the basis of something you don't even have facts on like "financially supporting Webtoons and LO" is such a silly hill to die on, c'mon pal. You want me to stand here and tell you my side of it as if you're even gonna believe me? Because even if I do say "actually, I no longer even have the Webtoons app on my phone and I can't even remember the last time I paid for coins on the app because all the series I usually FP nowadays are on hiatus and I stopped FP'ing LO back at the start of S3" are you really gonna believe me? Did you even bother to read through the majority of this post? You want receipts or something? What do you want from me?
