LIBRARIES often call for a capacity for solitude. There is a warmth in silence, a beauty unmatched by all. The library in Hogwarts was no different, but you’d speculate the addition of magic helps restore it to a proper scene.

Often, you find yourself there on an early Saturday morning, as that’s when it’s mostly empty, spare a few first-years. Most of the students are busy with sleeping in or spending the day at Hogsmeade, so you don’t have to worry about anyone interrupting your studies.

Today, though, you are accompanied by a resolute presence.

Sirius Black had come up to you after Potions yesterday (or read: was shoved by his friends), asking if you’d be able to help him out with subject revision for the upcoming exams.

You agreed, of course; the way he was stumbling over his own feet and blushing red in the face made you pity the usually sly marauder. He must be really nervous about exam season, you thought; you’d feel terrible if he were to fail, especially when you could easily help him out.

Sirius seemed to be taken aback by the response; he must’ve assumed you would say no. His friends, James and Peter, laughed covertly as they watched Sirius stutter. Remus had stood off to the side like always, a knowing expression on his scarred face.

That brings you to now, studying in the school library with Sirius Black on a Saturday morning.

His silver eyes are trained on his parchments, a tremor in his hand as he glides the ink-filled pen nib across the page. It was the History of Magic he needed help with most. Fortunately, that was the subject you excelled in.

The histories were something you held close, even closer than your owl. During the after-class period of the day, you would most likely be found with an ancient volume of some classic tale in your grasp.

On the odd occasion, Professor Slughorn gave you recommendations of novels to read; he was always very grateful to see that students still held an appreciation for the older tools of education.

A faint, repetitive noise pulls you from your sweet memories; Sirius has halted his writing and is now drumming his quill against the oak table. There is a furrow in his brow, from where you can see. He must be stuck on something. You tilt your head to gauge what exactly it is. That idea falls short as his hair seems to block where he had finished writing.

Without thinking, you graze your hand against his curls, attempting to push them past his ear to see his paper. His hair is soft under your touch, something akin to a fresh-washed coat of a pup.

Sirius flinches back at your touch, dropping his quill as he does so. He looks at you with a shocked expression, and all you can do is mirror it. The flush from yesterday returns to his pale cheeks, and you're more than tempted to cup his face to relish in the heat.

He gives you an accusatory squint, like you’ve just done something irreversible to him. In response, you tilt your head, waiting for the inevitable reaction. How odd.

Sirius licks at his top lip, wetting it with a subtle shine.

“Your hands—they’re really cold.”

i think silvermane guards are very very protective of gepard and they don't even try to hide this like if someone says any shit about gepard they would be like, just instantly go into defensive mode and just shut them up. They definitely dont play about him and every one of them so grateful towards the man who constantly stands tall between the endless enemy and them,even the most old/veteran ones, like he is just like a little fucked up son for them

oh my god yes yes absolutely i think bout the silvermane culture n gepards relationships w em So Much like.

i imagine when he first started riding up the ranks, super young and how as landau it was very much just Expected he would become the captain, that silvermanes were much more. sour with him. but hes Genuine. hes a captain that cares bout the guards and the people and he is right there at the frontlines and facing the fragmentum with them. he makes sure they are okay after it all and actually visits the wounded and checks up on them. its a mixture of bonds being forged when your life is on the line together but also just how unwavering and Present that gepard is as a captain in a way that is more than just. being tactical and resourceful. beyond maybe some old retired bastards who resented gepard rising the ranks quickly ahead of them you know the silvermanes LOVE his ass.

i imagine the decorum and concept of ranks that are rigid in the city are somewhat thrown out the window in the restricted zone or outside the city. like gepard ignores when some of the guards smuggle booze to the outposts as long as he gets a shot or two and they play boardgames and card games on rare nights that they arent dog tired (they let gepard win poker still). New guards get the memo quickly on the vibes when the older dudes are like 'yep thats gepard our captain we would all die for him (dont let him hear you say that he doesnt like when we talk like that)' and gepard is all PLEASE dont do that. theres weird superstitions around gepard like if he wakes up and gets out of his tent even a minute past 6am it's going to be a horrible day. gepard is always putting on a strong front and conscious of his guards wellbeing even when he's coked up on sleep deprivation but the guards know when hes not gotten enough sleep and try to coax him into resting. often when theres nothing too pressing theyll ask gepard to spar and try to knock him out literally because thatll work right? but nope even when Gepard has bags under his eyes and looks like shit he clobbers everyone.

its just. silvermanes have often been seen as dispensable and i mean sure they often die young and those that live to get old have their own scars but its worth it to protect the city right? but gepard Does care about the silvermanes too. a lot. he knows them all by name even when they are all wearing the same helmets and are indistinguishable and he often takes part in training new guards even though its technically not his job. the guards all feel the same way for him too yknow

and then when he's in his mid twenties he comes back to his hometown and subsequently So Do You.

you've been moved in for a while and his mom had told him that before once in passing but isagis spent a long time playing in germany so he hadnt thought about it until he comes back and his mom is like. oh u should go visit them and say hi and isagi is fondly like aw yeah i wonder how that kid grew up.

oh him getting possessive is SO good in this scenario. hadn't even thought of that. I headcanon him as being from a rural village / rlly small town in snezhnaya, I can't remember if that's canon supported or if its just me copy pasting where my family lives onto him in my mind, but that's the vibe I get. it's an everyone-knows-everyone town, and thats part of why he loves to visit, because even if ppl are a bit wary about him now, he is still sweet little Ajax to them. but that means they also aren't as scared of him as they are in the city. and they also all know and love you, people stopping to greet you and ask how you've been whenever they see you while the two of you are out on walks (small town means there's fuck all to do but wander around). they're gushing about how it's been so long, they haven't seen you since you visited a year ago! seriously, he had to live without you for a decade, when he definitely knew and liked you more than they did, and theyre here whining and taking your attention from him over one year? and they don't even flinch at his deadly glare as he pulls you to his side and says that you should get going.

really, though, he just wants to make up for lost time. years and years of bad timing has kept you apart but he never stopped thinking about you, saw the photos and got updates on you whenever he visited your family, and now he wants every second with you he can get, he wants to hear everything about your life. he's not even sure if the feeling is romantic or not until you tell him you're not dating anyone and he feels pure relief, and he swears he sees something similar on your face when he tells you he's single too.

when he sees you off, he feels like begging you to stay. he knows it's stupid, because he can't stay either, he'll be in town for a couple more days then he'll have to go back to the city and then get sent on another assignment to some far corner of teyvat (he hopes its your far corner, but he knows his luck is rarely that good). what he really means is he wants you to stay with him, wherever that may be, but those words don't come until after you're gone. instead, the two of you agree to stay in touch, and he makes you promise you'll let him know ages in advance when you're planning to visit snezhnaya again so he can try and be around as well. even if he has to work, you could visit him at his place in the city (he might actually prefer that - he wouldn't have to fight anyone for your attention there, and there's places he could take you out for a proper date)

thinkin abt childe since im visiting my like entire family in poland bc yknow. big family vibes n snezhnaya being slavic-based (+its been snowing like crazy here the last couple days). like, childhood friends to lovers w him where u were absolute besties as kids but then u moved away from snezhnaya and he joined the fatui and ur visits never seemed to coincide with his and suddenly its been fifteen years and you haven't seen him once. he surprises his family when he's back early from a mission and walks in to find u at his kitchen table having coffee with his mother and sister (your families are friends, of course you always visit them when you're in the country), and it should be awkward but you're honestly both so happy to see each other, it's been so long that teucer wasn't even born yet last time you saw each other! and then they bring out the old albums and you're poring over photos of the two of you at age five playing in the snow and he invites you out for a drink to catch up properly and his parents are nudging each other and not-so-quietly whispering about how they "knew those two would get married one day". idk. is that anything?

It's a time-honoured tradition- every time Sam comes across Izzy (and Ed) in their travels, he asks Izzy to marry him. And every time, Izzy turns him down.

At this point, Sam is asking more for the sake of it than any belief Izzy will ever say yes, a remnant of childhood dedication touched with 30 years of heartbreak and regret- though even now, a small part of him still holds out hope. Sam's promises have only got more extravagant over the years, from a job as his first mate, to a captaincy, a fleet at his command, a whole fucking island if that's what Izzy wants- but he knows it isn't though, not really. If Izzy was ever going to agree to marry him, to leave his life and go with Sam, it wouldn't be for anything Sam could offer him. Izzy never did care for flashy shows of wealth, for a ship or to be captain. The only thing that ever mattered to him was loyalty given, and loyalty shown in return. 

It all comes to a head after Stede left and came back, after Izzy lost a toe, lost his leg. Sam hasn't seen him since before things with Ed started to really slide off the rails, before stress permanently set into the lines of Izzy’s face. So, when he sees a dishevelled man with a hoof for a leg in a no-name port, he doesn't even consider the idea that he might know him. It's only when he turns towards him, and Sam catches a glance at those oh too familiar tattoos, he realises this is Izzy, his Izzy, that stands before him.

Knowing Izzy's discomfort with pity, he doesn't treat him any differently than he would in years gone by, positioning himself in Izzy's line of sight before approaching and sweeping him up into a bone crushing hug. 

“Israel-goddamn-Hands!” he exclaims, as Izzy grumbles back a begrudging “Samuel-fucking-Bellamy”, a tradition almost as old as their friendship itself. Izzy might not hug him back, but he can’t keep the corner of his mouth from twitching, just for a second.

(If Sam holds Izzy a little tighter and a little longer than usual, well. That's his business)

By the time Sam lets go, most of the crew has appeared in the town square, drawn in by the commotion. They may have given Izzy his leg and welcomed him as one of them, but still there’s an underlying tension, with nobody quite ready to set aside everything that happened before the Kraken. Seeing him cosying up to an unknown man sets everyone on edge, unsure whether to come to their first mate’s aid, or to assume that they've been betrayed once again.

When Ed sees that the yelling was Sam, his hand goes tense where it's held in Stede's. He knows the routine, has seen it more times than he can count, but as he watches them part he realises that this is the first time in a long time he's unsure of what Izzy's response will be.

Knowing that something’s different, knowing that Izzy's feeling vulnerable already, Sam doesn't go for the same flashy proposal he’s been giving for years. He doesn't promise Izzy the world, he doesn't cause a scene (or, any more of a scene than he already has, anyway). He looks at the fractured man in front of him, takes his face in his hands, and says the exact same thing to him he said when they were little more than boys. “Israel, I have to ask you. I know what you'll say, but I have to try. Come with me. Marry me and sail away with me. I'll keep you safe”

And Izzy… hesitates. He glances over at Ed, at Stede, and says to Sam “...We’re staying in port for a week. Ask me again then”

That's the moment Sam knows there is something deeply, horribly, wrong. He's not just looking at an Izzy who got seriously injured in a fight and is struggling to cope, this is something so much bigger than that- and that Ed has something to do with it. Izzy wouldn't even be considering leaving if he didn't. Whether it was negligence or something more sinister, Sam doesn't yet know, but he intends to find out.

i've seen a lot of dp fans in the dpxdc fandom talk about not having access to comics so here. it's completely free, good quality scans (for most things), basically any dc comic you could want is there. you should have an adblocker but the ads aren't the worst if you don't, just noticeable and annoying. you're not gonna get a virus, i've been using the site for years, as have many other fans.
