i've been listening to the horror and the wild by the amazing devil on repeat and i think it's extremely havoc duo coded. if anyone disagrees with me, you're wrong. here's some more little sketches i did for some other lyrics, because i used to make animatics for fun and i still miss doing them.

✨WIP Wednesday✨

Hi friends, I’m slowly making my return to tumblr & writing. I started this little number this morning. I’m trying to use writing as a way to process some of the stuff that’s been going on. I promise I will get to my requests…better late than never!

this is a snippet of an Eldest Daughter Reader x Joel Miller, it is not set in Jackson and in this world there is no outbreak.

“I lost the contract, Joel. They cancelled it on me.” The words tumble from your mouth, lip quivering as you slowly make your way down the achy wooden steps.

Life as a freelancer was never easy. Joel knew first hand the toll it took on him emotionally, physically and financially in that first decade of running his business. But a freelancer in the arts? That was way out of Joel’s scope. What he did know was that this opportunity was important, something that you had been working towards, and looking forward to, for over a year now. Yet, due to one mishap where an ‘I’ was not dotted, or a ‘T’ was not crossed, all that effort, excitement and pride was stripped from your hands. In one short, cold email, that opportunity was taken from you like a flash of light, leaving you hopeless and unemployed for another 6 months.

Fighting for what you love is exhausting. Joel could see the wear and tear as the last year rolled by, watching you pick yourself up over and over and over again. You nearly admitted defeat, one rainy March day, eyes filled to the brim with tears as you whispered into Joel’s chest, “I don’t think I can get up this time. This last kick to the teeth may be the one that does me in.”

Hearing you admit defeat killed Joel. He couldn’t let a talent like yours go to waste. You have a voice that makes people feel things. From that day on, Joel encouraged you and shared honest words of motivation until you finally started to believe them again. Until the light was back in your eyes and you found the joy in creating once more. Much like a flower, a little tenderness, love and care can do wonders to bring it back. Something his mama had taught him many, many years ago.

Headcanon #500:

Mind is afraid that when he distances himself from or above the others, that he will be too far gone to come back down. That when his paranoia gets the best of him, he'll shut everyone else out and then be completely alone with no way back to where he was before.

Heart is afraid that if Mind is right, with the idea that what he does isn't genuine, that he's being manipulative without realizing it. Then therefore being Whole without himself there is the better option. That he'd be thrown out because his ideas would then be "not worth it" or even "vile"

Soul is afraid that no matter what he does or how good things will be, they'll always eventually split up again or even end up worse. Even then he has no clue what he's supposed to do or be during everything, and so because of that he'll never be whole. Or worse that he'll never really "feel" whole.

Books of 2025: ADRIFT IN CURRENTS CLEAN AND CLEAR by Seanan McGuire.

Ah, yes, my favorite January tradition: heartbreak in tiny series installment form :)

This one is about a turtle-obsessed disabled Russian girl who gets adopted by an American family and fitted for a prosthetic she doesn't ask for, want, or need, and then she splashes through her Door.

I love Russian language and culture things (shout out to accidentally double minoring in college), so I was excited for a Russian protag and a Russian-coded Door world! Excellent enrichment in my enclosure. Neat cultural expansion on the Wayward Children universe (multiverse? cosmos?? insert appropriately scaled setting word here).

I also liked the aquatic nature of Belyyreka--terrifying giant frogs and delightful giant turtles and delightful talking foxes on the riverbanks were all lovely, and the worldbuilding about different weights of water was neat! Very mind-bendy kind of setting, I dig it.

This installment felt very slim (146 pages in my copy), and Our World Heavy--the first 46 pages were in Colorado, and the last 100 were in Belyyreka, but it felt like we did More Frequent and Larger Time Skips in Belyyreka compared to Earth? Kind of speedrun mode, sans Quests, really (this one was a lot more oriented toward Finding/Building Your Family, which was signposted pretty clearly upon our arrival in Belyyreka). Mostly a quieter installment up until the, y'know, Typical Impending Tragedy of Return at the end. (Did I almost put it down at 1AM last night with 30 pages left so everyone could Be Happy? perHAPS,)

Overall: I had a good time! But, ow, my heart (once again and forever).

I’ve tried like 500 times to articulate my thoughts about nonwhite superman and how much that adds to his childhood of loneliness and every time I hit a stumbling block because the topic makes me too insane to think but please hold my hand and imagine this little boy trying to grow up in rural Kansas and being the only person he’s ever known who looks like he does. This little boy who never has a proper answer when people ask where he’s really from, and even once he knows the truth of himself he can never safely share it. Please imagine him fighting every single day to belong and never being able to no matter how hard he tries because people will always find something questionable in the very way he looks. A lot of the superman mythos is dependant on Clark’s ability to assimilate but when you take that away what is left?? He’s just a kid fighting so hard for a belonging he’ll never have a hope in hell of being handed. Oh it hurts my heart

Happy birthday Emu. My personal idea for how the Wonder Stage might be used after WxS disbands and Emu starts getting more hands on with running Phennyland is dedicating the stage as a starting place for beginners. People normally audition at PxL for the bigger troupes, but there will always be the ambitious amueturs who have that potential and passion but didn’t quite make the cut for the big stages. That’s where Emu comes in and offers them an opportunity at the Wonder Stage, just like she had given Tsukasa.

It’s to help people get on their feet and into the acting/performing scene but without the same pressure and expectations that come with joining larger troupes. Unlike WxS, the new troupes at the Wonder Stage don’t have to deal with all of the hurdles Emu and her friends had. Back then, it was entirely up to the four of them to keep that stage running, but now Phennyland is well off. She’ll cover everything, advertising, props, maintenance. It leaves the troupe with nothing to worry about and total freedom to manage their own shows/schedules how they want. The real focus and goal of the Wonder Stage is to help beginners build up some experience, to help nuture passions that might have previously never gotten the chance, to be somewhere accepting that brings any ideas they wish to life and then… Emu makes it her personal goal to help each and every one of them find opportunities at bigger stages or bigger roles outside of the Wonder Stage.

It’s a starting line. She doesn’t have to be scared of her Grandpa’s stage being torn down anymore, so she’s made it into a safe place for people to grow with the goal in mind… that they will someday outgrow it, but that’s not a bad thing and it’s nothing to fear, not anymore. After one person leaves, there will always be someone else who needs that supportive environment, an opportunity, her help to make others smile. She’s there to tend to buds before they bloom, the cocoon for caterpillars, it’s a place for anyone, young and old, talented or inexperienced, determined or hobbyist, to come and go when it suits them best—

Becuase she’s learned that the smiles created at the Wonder Stage and Pheonix Wonderland shouldn’t end there, she wants those smiles to stay on their faces as they leave and go out into the world to spread those happy feelings everywhere.
