Ok but one thing I can’t get over is that Vulcans can smell humans. The series never really expounds on what exactly it smells like, and it seems like only SNW is the only instance in which it’s stated that Vulcans find the smell unpleasant. They also don’t specify exactly what it is Vulcans are smelling, just that humans have a scent, although I think it’s implied that it smells stronger after a human has been sweating, so my best guesses are as follows:
Humans have really smelly pheromones, but since humans can’t really smell or detect pheromones and hormones (at least, not on a conscious level), we just don’t know it. I think you touched on this in a Vreenak fic you did??? Idk though I might be hallucinating that.
Human adrenaline has smell and Vulcans can detect it
Humans produce some other chemical compound that vulcans are sensitive to
All of the above???
Idk, but that pheromone theory has a lot of potential, especially for pre-Surak!Vulcans…and maybe even regular Vulcans, both of which would maybe possibly mistake the smell of a human female ovulating or getting close to/just ending her period for the smell of Pon Farr, and then get confused because “she says humans don’t have heat cycles, but my human very clearly smells like she’s in Pon Farr!”
Omg, Nonny, I'm ngl, I've had really bad writer's block over the last few weeks, but this is making me want to write a little drabble about Vulcans and pon farr smelling Human pheromones. *feral growling*
I absolutely love this theory, and as it hurts nobody, I choose to believe it. All of it. All of the above. I know this is probably way too short of a response given the length of this ask, but I'm just vibrating out of my skull over here!! (Also, yes, I did mention pheromones in that Vreenak fic I wrote. You're not hallucinating, I promise. I think I also mentioned them in a few others, as well.)
In compensation for this gorgeous ask and all the pheromone goodness it contains, I present you with some gorgeous pointy bois:

TOS rewatch: Turnabout Intruder
Before reaching the final episodes of TOS, I looked through a few lists ranking the og Star Trek episodes from best to worst and somewhere towards the end, I would see this episode, more than once with a note saying it was very sexist. Now I did not remember watching it for the first time, but after watching it now... I don't think it is?
Tumblr media
The plot tldr; Kirk's unhinged ex forcibly swaps bodies with him and takes over the Enterprise. Noone believes Kirk in a woman's body, except for Spock. The ex is finally defeated before getting rid of Kirk for good.
Yeah, so written like this it sounds kinda bad, but bear with me.
Apart from some details in the script, it is actually pretty solid. The details being a) women not being able to become captains of starships, and b) Janice Lester, the ex, hating being a woman and blaming that (plus Kirk) for her fucked up life. Those are not dealbreakers for me. Being a woman absolutely sucks in societyTM and obviously it is speaking more about the state of things in the 1960's rather than in the 23rd century. And the captain thing is stupid, partially because creating that obstacle for Janice was absolutely not necessary.
Tumblr media
You see, she is absolutely unhinged. It is not because she is a woman. She didn't become a captain because she was genuinely not good enough. She was bitter and willing to murder her own research team to get to Kirk. That's not a silly girl behaviour. It is sexy though. Go Janice.
I think this would have been more apparent, if Shatner had had the acting skill to pull this off. Or possibly if we had like one scene with Janice being openly murderous in her own body to see that the way she acts in Kirk's is not William Shatner making fun of "the ladies", but actually mimicking her.
Sandra Smith, the actress who plays Janice, is so great as Kirk though. She talks like him, makes the same faces, carries herself as him. She is always a little over the top, just like Shatner. I'm not gonna lie, I developed a little crush on her. Or was it Kirk in her body? Curious.
Tumblr media
This episode doesn't have much else to offer as plot goes. Once the two switch, it is mostly talking in rooms, and the ending is meh. But is it sexist? My verdict is: Nuh.
It does contain one continuity error, or rather I realised there is one in Strange New World. In the first season Spock and T'Pring swap bodies and yet in TOS, which takes place later, Spock has never heard of it happening before. SNW writers! Watch your elders! :p
BONUS point: Janice as Kirk shouts "It is mutiny!" and it is one of the funniest lines Shatner has ever spoken. See for yourself.

20 questions writer meme.
Thanks @snarkivistfic for tagging me!! i really love doing these <333
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
208! on this account XD all of my answers will be for this ao3 account.
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
477,998. i'll hit 500k by the end of niecest weekend <3
3. What fandoms do you write for?
well, right now, mainly mdzs and a little bit for ace attorney. i've been known to write for arcane, and a little for svsss and star trek snw. everything else is for assorted various fandoms as the whims come and go, but those are the main ones.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Punishment Most Sweet, niecest pwp 2.2k.
Too Close for Comfort, niecest pwp 4.9k, for the love of god read the tags before diving in.
Iridescent, smutty and romantic niecest longfic, featuring canon divergence right from the very start! it's 109k.
Prey, niecest (and nhs/tentacles) pwp 6.7k. once again, if you get squeamish, read the tags first.
Any Other Name, niecest omegaverse pwp with bitching and bottom nmj, 6.9k.
5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?
absolutely! i always do unless it's a hate comment or something like that. i really love getting to interact with people who love the same characters i do; tbh it's one of the biggest reasons i write fanfic in the first place.
6. What is a fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Final Entry. i genuinely cried while writing it and i have a secret, alternate ending stashed away just for me because it was so difficult to handle at times.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
i think that the one that has the most uncomplicated happy ending is A Thousand Ways to Say I Love You, tbh. most of my fics end happily though, in varying degrees. it's because i'm a sap XD
8. Do you get hate on fics?
not usually! i have a few times, but it's not very common for me.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
over half of my fics include smut, and it's of various kinds. i am a creature that thrives on variety, so it's difficult for me to do one thing over and over again. i have some things i won't write, but even things i'm very neutral towards or even mildly squicked by, i'll usually still give them a go at least once.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
i haven't posted one yet, though i've had a disco elysium/mdzs crossover in mind for probably a year now? idk if i'll ever get to writing it because i'm too intimidated to write disco elysium fic, but the vibes are good for myself at least.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
not that i know of!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
yes! once again, it's Final Entry, translated into Chinese. i nearly cried when the translator asked to, it was so sweet 😭💖
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
nope! when i was young i tried to write with someone else a few times and it really didn't go well, but now i don't think i would be opposed to the idea. it seems a little difficult, because of writing speeds and styles and everything else, but if someone wanted to try with me then i'd probably be game.
14. What's your all-time favorite ship?
well, okay. i think empirically, i have to say that it is niecest. i've never written this many fics for a ship before ever. honorable mentions to xisang, which anchored me into the mdzs fandom, and miamaya from ace attorney which is my most recent obsession.
15. What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?
well, i have about a million wips, and so it's unrealistic to think that i would ever be able to finish them all. but on my other account i have a xisang modern au that's just told through poetry written by nhs, which i hope to finish someday but the "write poetry" juice is not terribly common for me, alas. i don't think i'll ever finish it.
16. What are your writing strengths?
i think internal monologues are my biggest strength when writing. it's certainly the part that i enjoy the most, and i think that definitely shows through even after i've edited it all. also, i think i'm pretty good at smut tbh, and at turning smut into opportunities to showcase where the character(s) is(are) at emotionally. and... writing very long sentences XD
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
dialogue 👍 which is fucking hilarious because when i was a teen, i could write dialogue all day long and it was my favorite part of the process. but now it's nearly always like pulling teeth, and i'm often not satisfied with it even when i'm done.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?
i think the only language i'd feel comfortable doing that for, if it were more than just a word here or there, is Spanish. i love seeing it in fic though, when i'm reading! but yeah, i'm just not enough of a polyglot to feel comfortable pulling it off myself, generally.
with mdzs/untamed fanfic, i operate under the assumption that the characters are all speaking Mandarin Chinese unless otherwise specified, so i'll use a specific dialogue tag if it's important that they're speaking in another language.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
the ranger's apprentice series--i loved it when i was younger. none of the fanfic remains, unfortunately. when i was a young adult i got embarrassed by what i'd written for it and burned the notebook holding my earliest fanfic, and then through the internet i've lost another long one that was for that same series and universe. i still have an original novel i wrote that was loosely based on that fanfic, though.
20. Favorite fic you've written?
i think... for now, it's still Iridescent. that might change with my next longfic, but since it's currently my only very long fanfic that's finished, it's difficult not to be attached to it.
thanks so much for tagging me again, snarkivist! this was really, really fun <333
as for who i'll tag, i think it will be @foxyyaoguai, @kaz3313, and @monroeknoxwrites. you don't have to do it if you don't want to, and anyone else who sees this and wants to do it, feel free to put me down as having tagged you! i'd be delighted to see your answers!

Do you have any predictions for Spock/Chapel and Stonn/T’Pring in SNW season 2?
I got this question as a submission, my rambling follows:
I don’t really have any predictions, I’m just here for the ride. I haven’t read any spoilers or anything, I only watched the two trailers (and I’ve had these thoughts since s1 - I even posted some of them – I just updated them a bit), but I assume that Spock will start losing more and more control, until something finally snaps and he and Chapel cross the line (what that line truly is remains to be seen). But in some way, I also kind of expect them to put an end to it in this season (towards the end), if they want to stay true to TOS. Because Chapel needs to get engaged. I also assume that Spock will regain his control, and therefore chooses T’Pring because he wants to be seen as a Vulcan and having a human mate wouldn’t achieve that. (I also think that Spock might try to suppress his feelings towards Chapel and try to redirect them at T’Pring.)
I believe that at this point, T’Pring is in love with Spock, and she wants to be with him, and wants their relationship to work out. BUT it’s possible that Spock being out of control, he tries to avoid T’Pring, and if they meet again, she might start getting doubts. That he’s part human isn’t a problem for her, but if she saw how much he’s getting influenced, she might start getting doubts. One son of Sarek refuses to follow logical path and is in her care, what if it’s genetics? (actually might be interesting if T’Pring is the one helping Spock with regaining his shields)
I don’t know if they will do anything with Stonn/T’Pring so soon, but Stonn is always there. I can see him as character who is extremely loyal to T’Pring, and she wants someone who will always be by her side, and them working closely with each other, will make them connect step by step.
However, I don’t think Spock ever doubted that T’Pring would wait for him. It was him, who knew he couldn’t give her what she needed, who fell in love with someone else (even two someones, actually, if you count Leila), therefore didn’t want to be with T’Pring, but he didn’t expect her to reject him. Amok Time isn’t a mutual divorce, it’s T’Pring rejecting Spock because he became a legend and was never at home and always busy. And she didn’t want to be a wife of a legend. And Spock was shocked, and he was very “I see no logic in preferring Stonn over me” about her choosing Stonn over him lol
So I kind of think that T’Pring and Stonn get closer a few years before Amok Time, not now in s2 (Amok Time is still seven years into the future). Perhaps after Kirk takes over the Enterprise and Spock stops visiting Vulcan. We know, he visited Vulcan four years before Journey to Babel, which is like a year and some before Kirk took over the Enterprise. (But the writers might not really remember lol But this is what I would like to see.)
But they seem to rush a lot of things, so who even knows. They might also enjoy their will they won’t they with Chapel and Spock and prolong it unnecessarily. I say unnecessarily, because we know that by TOS, Chapel is engaged for more than five years, Spock and Chapel aren’t together (even though thanks to SNW we can read them as they had a thing and now they’re awkward about it, and Spock rejected her), Spock meets Leila in the meantime, and Spock expects T’Pring to marry him.

Predictions for Star Trek Strange New Worlds S2 E5 "Charades"
Ahead are my predictions for the upcoming Star Trek SNW episode "Charades." Possible spoilers below the line since I am making specific guesses.
We've been told that the episode is a comedy, so I worry a bit. Mainly because when the SNW writers get their hands on a comedy concept, character integrity can go out the window. This is just my current take on SNW, it may change. But the showrunners have said that they want to see more comedy and that the story takes precedence over what's been written before them. When it comes to how they write for Spock, it can be hit or miss. In my opinion, it's usually a miss, because they prefer to focus on Spock's comedic angles and this relegates his actual characterization and identity struggles to an afterthought. And it's not that playing it safe is the answer, either. Last week's E4 played it safe, which I'll get to in another review, and found itself weaker for it for a few reasons, even though I liked it in general.
What makes me have low hopes is that the Star Trek writers implied that a bowl cut is a genetic trait in the trailers so far. I think that saying removing Spock's Vulcan DNA makes him change his hair, or be prone to eating bacon and forgetting how to be a Vulcan is a bit stupid. Yeah, maybe his digestive system normally can't eat bacon so he could now, but his Vulcan behaviors and beliefs are not biological. Vulcans are the way they are because of a set of philosophical choices and cultural norms. The only thing missing should be his telepathy and ability to control emotions/shielding. That's kind of the point of Spock's struggle with his identity. A fanfiction writer would absolutely recognize that, which makes me wonder if the writers don't, or are willing to disrespect the character integrity for comedy, and in my personal opinion, both are bad choices.
Vulcans are vegetarian on principle (they even used to eat meat) and may have consequently evolved to have a digestive system that rejects meat. Many humans are like this, too. My younger sibling is a vegetarian. If they woke up tomorrow as a carnivorous alien, they would still not want to eat bacon, unless their identity was changed too. And then they wouldn't be my younger sibling, they'd simply be a carnivorous alien that looks like my sibling. It stands to reason, therefore, that having your DNA changed wouldn't make you a meat eater.
That's sort of WHY Spock has a dual identity and rejects one constantly—because it's not genetic, there's norms that pressure him. It's what makes scenes like TOS' "The Naked Time" so valuable ("When I feel friendship for you, I'm ashamed.") That's cultural conditioning. It's not genetic. It's so central to Spock as a character that when he dies, he reaffirms he feels friendship, because it's been hard for him to get to that point. To say this is genetic is cheapening it. So I hope they'll address this adequately and not just chalk everything about his identity to his biology, because that's weak character concept. So if you're going to do this, I ask that you give us an actual reason for Spock to eat bacon and say "fuck." Just don't tell us he's like this because they removed his "DNA." Michael Burnham had a whole thing about how she was raised Vulcan as a human, and was alienated by her peers. And Sybok is an emotional Vulcan.
Anyways, what is charades? It's a game where you act out a phrase without speaking. I assume there will be a sort of tongue in cheek attempt at trying to fix Spock (superficially) and make him seem more Vulcan in time, along with them actually putting fake ears on the man. Actually, they'll probably have Chapel give him the temporary genetic change like they did in the very first ever episode of SNW (the one that made him scream in pain- is this why he's screaming in the trailer or is my boy just having a bad time?)
Anyways, if it were like a bit of My Fair Lady (or Pygmalion) that would be kind of fun. Or perhaps a Comedy of Errors type beat. What I hope they do not mean is for Charades to be a meta reference to Star Trek mimicking its own tropes. Eventually it becomes self referential and that can be tired.
We know he's relatively recently engaged to T'Pring, so maybe this is his engagement party or the Vulcan equivalent. Vulcans have a lot of traditions rooted in their past. I expect we'll see a bit of push and pull between Spock's feelings towards T'Pring and Chapel. I expect T'Pring will demonstrate she cares for him and this may somehow draw him away from Chapel, since we know that doesn't last. Amok Time doesn't tell us much about their history, so it would make sense if T'Pring's family is exerting intense Vulcan norms on him, and she defends Spock for who he is. I think we deserve to see that from T'Pring and we deserve that kind of demonstration of Spock's identity struggle.
I kind of get the sense Captain Pike is mostly going to stand around being in hot Captain dad mode because he's wearing the green shirt. Calling it. He seems more like he's actually playing host to the Vulcan get together, even though he's ship Captain. Maybe Pike'll cover for Spock while he is eating bacon and saying fuck.
Spock's mom is going to be hot. This is not a prediction. It's a fact.
I think by the end Spock is going to be comprehending his feelings a bit more and getting clarity because he lacks the ability to simply bury them as a human. And maybe this somehow sets the stage for his emotional maturity and the person he'll become by the time Kirk is Captain.
I really think the Chapel tension resolves here. After all, there are no real stakes. We know the ending. We know there's nothing in the way to threaten that. Star Trek's storytelling is constrained by itself. So the stakes are going to be just the "will they won't they" between Spock and Chapel, which I personally don't like anyway. I would think a reasonable resolution is for Spock to realize that all the deep emotions he's feeling are those of platonic love. It would make sense to say that he didn't really understand the difference between romantic and platonic love because Chapel has very strong feelings and he's never had close friends or romantic love before. His engagement to T'Pring is not born of love. I could see Spock outright saying to Chapel something like "I now know that I care deeply for you. And know I know that I do have a lot of feelings for you: as a friend." It would do them both justice and give Chapel the ability to grow as a character outside of the romance tension.
Ultimately I think Chapel might get sidelined for Spock to get development time with Jim Kirk and Uhura. Ten episodes gives them so little time to show us relationships. And that's not the fault of Chapel's character. I believe she needs more substance still. She's a vast improvement from her 60's counterpart but I think she's still not particularly well written. I assume she pursues her two month archaeological project on Vulcan and gets with her canon partner, Roger Korby. I think she'll take that up by the end of the season and we'll hear more about it by the end of episode 8.
Strange New Worlds often spends more time telling us it is Star Trek than being Star Trek and I think ultimately this episode will be like that. The show falls victim to itself on occasion. I do like SNW and I love Star Trek, but I suppose I'm a bit of a cynic. If they were a bit more brave and a little less reliant on pandering to the mainstream and the endless belief that the modern audience needs love life drama in the form of people who behave just like 21st century people, they'd be better for it.
It would also be quite meaningful if the crew were to decide that they prefer Spock how he really is as a person. Let's see.
As for the literal plot resolution, I'm curious about how this'll happen. The plot concept is kind of weird to begin with. Aliens removed his DNA? Maybe they send Chapel and Ortegas (an experienced pilot and has some tension with her also) to go again and try replicating the conditions under which the change to Spock happened or try to contact the aliens. After all, why did they remove the DNA in the first place? Maybe they just talk to the aliens and they're like, "Oh, my bad, we thought he was upset by being Vulcan. It was causing him pain. We'll put it back." And then they restore him, shields and all, and he's the most Vulcan he's ever been. Maybe they just find a contrived cure. It really could go any way.
Okay, that's all for this week.

We've been seeing your reblogs of SNW on our feed, and we gotta ask... Thoughts and opinions? Is it good? Would you recommend watching it to a trekkie who hasn't watched any of the new trek properties since the first few episodes of Discovery?
Oh man oh man oh man. I have a lot to say. If you don't want to read all of it, there's a TLDR at the end.
✅ episodic format: It's SUPER different from Discovery, so if you prefer the older episodic shows over the newer serialized format, it'll definitely check that box.
❌ season arcs: even though the older episodic shows have two partners and/or small (or large) season arcs, SNW doesn't really... There's one that connects the end of s1 to the beginning of s2, and it's a big deal, but it's not drawn out. I'm not even married to season arcs, but I do think that if they're doing silly filler episodes, ten episodes is too short for a season and thirteen would have been better for them. I LOVE silly filler episodes, so let's get that straight, but they're better when it's not taking up literally a fifth of the season.
✅ space hijinks and the risks of exploration: It oscillates wildly between silly and dark, sometimes between episodes and sometimes within the same episodes, but I see that as one of its strengths. It gets really goofy in a fun way, but it's also bloodier than older Trek... mostly just because they actually show blood. The crew commits so many hijinks and they're all friends and fun to watch together.
❌ character development: the actors are really carrying the characters alone for this one. The characters are all lovable and for the most part the actors are doing a great job, but frankly this is my biggest complaint about the show. We get very, very little development for any of the characters even over the first and almost complete second season. They're just still not well established. The writers seem to think "trauma" is the same as characterization... which like obviously it's not, so. I get very irritated (which you've probably seen in my tags) about the fact that there's often "development" for the characters that builds on a foundation that's basically just toothpicks. It still takes them a step forward, but it's always a stumble imo. I know some folks who are casual watchers who don't mind this though (I'm just neurologically incapable of casual watching). This is also apparently an unpopular opinion, but (spoiler alert) I also think Kirk is in it too much. He'll have been in at least 4/10 of the season 2 episodes, but he's not even posted to the Enterprise. I LOVE Paul Wesley's Kirk like he's my favorite Kirk nobody @ me but the show is about the SNW crew, not Kirk. They're struggling to even develop the seven major SNW characters, so constantly throwing Kirk in constantly is kind of annoying me. They also don't do full ensemble episodes, so often some of the major characters will only show up for one or two scenes and someone else will be the focus. This isn't my preferred format, but I don't hate it-- that being said, some characters are being seriously neglected because of it, but I won't fully rant about that.
✅/❌ Discovery tie in: you don't need to have seen Discovery to watch it. I watched s1 without having watched Discovery. HOWEVER, it will spoil the ending of Discovery s2 in SNW 1x01, just be aware (as in it will totally obliterate one of the big reveals in Disco).
✅Anson Mount: I say this as someone who's literally never seen him in anything else, but he brought his A game every episode and he's the absolute MVP of the series. Really great performances and he makes Pike an incredibly lovable character but also a really great captain.
❌ Discussion of disability: I have a lot of thoughts regarding the treatment of disability as a horrifying thing and equating it with death. Like, fear of physical injury is a very human thing because it's literally a survival response that's wired into us, but there's both some sloppy writing that equates physical disability with death and just a failure to actually explore what a disabled future means for a person. It's kind of hard to explain what I mean without obliterating an entire episode of Discovery and the whole first season of SNW if anyone else reads this, so I won't go into it but I will say this-- I didn't find this weak point to be bad enough to stop watching, and it involves TOS canon that they can't escape, so they're not doing something that's deliberately offensive and disrespectful, but they're not doing it particularly respectfully either.
✅ special effects: there aren't as many REALLY alien characters as Discovery, so there has been less major prosthetic design on display, but what there has been has been good and the CGI is great.
✅ Old school nods: there's so much campy scifi in this show. They do the bridge impact lean and shake thing and they have cool props and the uniforms are a little silly but also so well designed. The ship design is really 2020s and not classic Trek but there are still elements of that design and it's still cool as hell. Also, like, it's the fucking Enterprise, so I'm going to be feral over it regardless.
❌ CO and XO: Listen, this is such a personal taste-based opinion BUT I'm mad about it so I'm going to COMPLAIIIIIIIIIN about it. One of my favorite things about any Trek is the CO/XO relationship, whether it's on a ship or a station or whatever. I just find that a really fascinating dynamic, and it's so different every time. This show has a FASCINATING CO/XO dynamic and the actors have really cool ideas... but developing this at all would require the XO to ACTUALLY BE IN THE FUCKING SHOW. She's in every episode but often not for long. I have some major opinions on this, in case that wasn't obvious. They've done 17 episodes and this relationship hasn't been developed very much. We've had some good scenes and a good plotline, but my complaint still stands for reasons I won't spoil unless requested.
❌ Strange New Worlds: there are barely any new worlds, nevermind strange new worlds. Half the time it's just Star Trek: Doing Stuff in Space and the other half it's Star Trek: Hey We Found Something Weird in Space and Are Investigating It. Not a big complaint, just... not quite what it says on the tin.
TL;DR I love SNW a LOT. It's fun and it's silly but it also confronts the big philosophical questions of existence and morality that are central to Trek. I do have a lot of complaints, but honestly one of the reasons I have so many complaints is because I love it so much.
It's definitely Trek in flavor and it doesn't demand high commitment to watch it. Someone will inevitably yell at me for this, but it actually reminds me most of Voyager-- it's silly and the relationships of the crew are prioritized, but they do some really messed up episodes along the way too. It's a very different vibe to Voyager though, to be clear.
If you decide to watch it, let me know! I'd love to hear what you think :)

FAQ
Tumblr media
Q: are requests open?
my pinned post will tell you whether or not requests are open. that usually refers to your own original prompts. for smaller headcanon requests that i write from a prompt list, i usually add on if those specific prompts are closed or accepting when i post it.
Q: what can i request?
this is a headcanon-only blog for reader inserts, meaning i won't be writing actual fics or drabbles. headcanons are just easier for me to write and i don't risk getting writer's block. headcanon requests are something along the lines of "relationship requests for _" or "how would _ react to you getting hurt." this is a reader insert blog, so i won't be writing character x character ships. as of now, i don't write explicit NSFW content, though i might get a little spicy here and there if the prompt calls for it.
Q: who do you write for?
pretty much anybody from TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and SNW. there may be a few characters i won't write for at all, like dukat. if you want to request somebody who isn't on the main crew, it might be best to just ask. there are some characters i may not automatically put in the crew-wide headcanons. that's mostly just my own personal preference and if i'm able to view them in a romantic way (neelix, quark, tuvok, etc). but if i left someone out and you'd like to read the headcanon for them, you can send in a request! - why don't you write for TOS, DIS, PIC? i haven't watched them / haven't watched in a while / don't want to watch them.
Q: are you going to write my request?
i try to get to every request i receive, but i do delete requests that don't spark my inspiration. in the past, i've made the mistake of forcing myself to write everything i was requested and didn't always enjoy it. that's not to say you can't request more than one thing! just because one request didn't spark my muse, doesn't mean a second one won't.

if there's a question you have that i haven't answered, feel free to send me an ask!

OK, here my take. I never saw chapel and Spock having ever been together. I never really saw a story on Spocks end that would be as interesting as when TOS starts so the writers had to make something up.
Chapel on her own is a good character. She's nothing like TOS which is fine. I liked how she flirted with Spock is S1ep1 and spock didn't respond and that was how I thought it should stay.
I also noticed the parallel between Chapel and that guy she was hooking up with in Spock amok. He wanted a relationship and she bolted. Same as what she did with Spock.
I know I made a post about this before but my mom was really upset over it and kept saying how Spock never loved again after. Also I agree with person above, this is suppose to explain why he is so closed off. I still wish this was another universe because I saw spock as primary ace though a good part of TOS and having S1 start with Spock about to have sex with T'pring was ... not what I wanted to see.
In pretty must all novels that I've read T'pring is a villain and I kind of want it to stay that way. SNW has given up plenty of fleshed out female characters so it's not like we're lacking any more (and they improved those awful short skirts TOS had)
Anyway, the last point is how short Spock and Chapel were 'together' was it like a few weeks? And then in the last ep spock is still acting like they are together. I get that he's not over her yet but it feels like the writers were pushing for the two to be back together after she dumped him by song. (and that's the other thing, wouldn't she only be gone 3 months? If she really wanted they could have stayed together) But I guess that just makes it more tragic in that she will wait for for future fiancé for 3 years (around) and can't wait 3 months for Spock.
(side note, does anyone else think the guy they got to play Corby look a lot like the gay pirate from Our Flag Means death)
Y’all the moment when Kirk and Spock actually meet in strange new worlds is so perfect because Chapel, clearly not invested in the chess game, spent the start of the episode trying to define her newfound relationship with Spock as a situationship, even though it was the anthesis of what Spock wanted after his last relationship just blew up in his face because he wasn’t open and committed enough.
Meanwhile Kirk, watching them from a distance, wanted to engage with Spock on his terms. On his level. Playing chess. And then Spock makes the first actual move to interact because he too, wanted something equal. In that case, both of them shitting on Sam.
And they begin their relationship with a Vulcan kiss as opposed to a human one. (I know that’s not what the writers were going for but shhhh let me have my fun this is the most spirk we’re getting for at least 2 years)
What I’m getting that is despite Kirk and Spock’s love of 3D chess, their newfound relationship is a level playing field.

SNW Liveblog: “Ghosts of Ilyria”
In which the dialogue is both the best and worst part of the episode.
Episode 1: “I’m gonna mess with your genome. […] We’ll have to make a few alterations if you want to blend in.”
Episode 3: “…a humanoid species known for modifying their genes… However…genetic modification is forbidden in the Federation.”
MAKE. THAT. MAKE. SENSE. I know what they did in Episode 1 was just temporary, but Chapel’s whole purpose on the ship is genetic research, which she used to alter (temporarily or otherwise) the genetic code of certain crew members??? Do the writers actually read their own scripts?!
An ion storm, you say? Is this going to be a mirror episode? Seems a little early in the show’s run to be pulling that rabbit out of the hat.
“Whatever tweaks your freak, pal.” Thanks, I hate it.
The design of Engineering is a little busy for my taste, and the lighting is still too low for a functional working environment, but it looks pretty cool!
Oh shit, I completely forgot about the Eugenics Wars (which are such a huge piece of Trek lore—that’s my brain after eight days of work in a row, ig)…of COURSE genetic modification is forbidden! Which makes what they did in Episode 1 even more ridiculous!!! I’m sure having La’an discuss this with Number One is meant to be a wink and a nod to the audience, since presumably she’s related to Khan in some way.
Just kidding, they’re just going to openly acknowledge that she’s related to Khan, lol. But in all seriousness: why is she? Why couldn’t La’an just be an OC???
Good Spock dialogue!
He said “records” the way Nimoy would have, and it made me smile.
Uhura, a xenolinguist and polyglot from Kenya, saying “y’all”…hmmm.
“Nonessential personnel.” “Contact tracing.” “Lockdown.” Obviously, this language could apply to any pandemic, but you can just tell that writers were still waist-deep in the experience of covid while they worked on this script.
Spock’s sass! We love to see it.
Okay, it’s pretty badass that Number One can carry a full-grown man (alien or not) over her shoulder.
“How in the exact hell are you carrying him?” a. Christine and I are on the same wavelength, but b. that’s a truly awful line of dialogue.
I’m annoyed by Number One’s convenient backstory, but I guess to be totally fair to these writers, the character effectively has no backstory, so what’s stopping them?
“You know what will happen if that containment field goes down.” Yeah, we’ve seen it happen to Spock, and we’ve cried about it.
Ethan’s delivery could use some work. I’m a mumbler myself, so I do get it, but especially since he’s playing Spock, he really needs to enunciate!
Ah…this show’s fantasy elements in a science fiction package strike again.
I know she wasn’t a major, well-developed character, but I still feel comfortable in saying that “Don’t thank me, I know I’m good at my job” is an egregiously uncharacteristic thing for Christine Chapel to say. Yikes. (Christine IS good at her job, but TOS got that across by showing it—like when she found a creative way to get a crewman to stop refusing food.)
Tumblr media
An amazing shot with nods to the mod/retrofuturistic aesthetic of TOS (finally!)...more of this, please.
If they hadn’t invented a medical transporter out of whole cloth, none of this would be a problem.
“No spoilers.” They really had to slip THAT line in there as a capstone to M’Benga’s tragic story about his daughter? Good thing his daughter is super cute. I do wonder about consent here, though: did M’Benga’s partner/his daughter’s mother agree to this arrangement? What about his daughter herself?
Overall, this episode felt more like classic Trek than any of them have so far, right down to Spock being stranded planetside with his captain. While I question some of the writing/plot choices, I have no big complaints EXCEPT FOR the horrible continuity/logic error wrt this episode and the “gene therapy” shown in the pilot. I was even pretty neutral on Pike in this episode. He’s no Jim Kirk, but he was Fine. (But speaking of Kirk, what happened to Sam??? They just forgot he existed and almost died in the previous episode…?) And I like the moral of this episode’s story—I just feel like the way they got there was a little clumsy.
The Good: Several really authentic-sounding Spock moments; Jess Bush is gorgeous; M’Benga’s absolutely adorable daughter; they kept the whistle sound on the Bridge from TOS!
The Bad: Is “gene therapy” okay, or isn’t it?! Consistency, people! Other dialogue choices…were made—some are OOC, some are just cringe, which is par for the course on SNW; La’an conveniently being Khan’s descendant; this show continues to be more fantasy than scifi
I am once again hoping for more S/C in the next episode!

okay a few more thoughts on snw ep 1:
Celia R Gooding as Uhura is so delightful!!! As soon as she was cast I checked Twitter and they seem wonderful there too :) I think Celia really displayed body language in a couple scenes in a very specific careful way that reminded me of some Uhura scenes in tos that I remember which is great, I can’t wait to see what they do with Uhura (and relatedly I liked that we saw her meeting chapel I think they should be best friends and maybe kiss)
Chapel + Ortegas + M’Benga I cannot WAIT to see what they do with you guys i don’t really have a feel for the direction we’re taking but ily
sigh. okay so spock. I don’t know. I just struggle to connect this version of him with tos spock I guess? Like if I didn’t have all these original series scenes popping into my mind whenever he does or says anything and making me go “I don’t think he would do that” I think I would like him a lot more. I definitely have trouble reading tos spock as anything other than totally gay so that makes me more biased I guess but even disregarding that I do find many of his scenes just hard to relate back to the original guy lol.
also the t’pring stuff… I will withhold judgment for the most part until we know what direction the writers are taking this and I think it WAS meant to be shocking to the audience but also I’m having trouble not looking back and forth between this and his hand stuff with the romulan commander/him and t’pring being nearly strangers and deeply unhappy in amok time/MANY other scenes. also scared what the official snw opinion on arranged marriage is going to be
also also if they demonize t’pring in any way I’m gonna lose it. I was very sympathetic to her when I watched amok time and then read posts on here and saw that some people hate her and think she should’ve… what? just slept with/married a guy she clearly didn’t want to? I think every action she took in the episode was justified and I would like to think I would be bold and clever enough to do the same were i in those circumstances
The Samuel Kirk thing was hilarious though I must admit. And the implications—!
Melanie Scrofano was a fun touch I was obsessed with her (thank you Wynonna Earp) when I was 14 :)
hmmm what else. Oh I don’t mind Pike but I really don’t get why people are so into him on here lol. Maybe it’s the lesbianism a little but I just don’t care that much. The scene where he was practically hugging that horse while talking to the admiral was funny but if I wanted to watch a white guy Star Trek captain who liked horses I would just watch tng lol
Anyway I am excited to see what directions they go in and whether they do keep it more episodic or go in with an overarching plot. Obviously have more opinions on the episode but this was what I felt like writing :)
